Victoria in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Victoria, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Victoria, on Mahé Island, is one of the world’s smallest capitals, offering a relaxed blend of Creole culture, colorful markets, and preserved colonial-era architecture. Visitors can stroll past landmarks like the Clock Tower, Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market, and the Hindu Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple. Nearby, lush botanical gardens and forested hills give way to white-sand beaches and clear waters ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and boat excursions. Its compact size makes it easy to explore in a day while still serving as a gateway to the rest of the Seychelles.
With favorites like Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market, La Dolce Vita, and Sam's Pizzeria, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like La Dolce Vita and Glorious bakery so you can get the best taste of Victoria while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

The Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market is a vibrant and bustling marketplace located in the heart of Victoria, Seychelles. This lively bazaar offers a delightful array of fresh local produce, aromatic spices, handmade crafts, and unique souvenirs. Named after a former English governor, this market provides an authentic glimpse into daily life on Mahe with its lively atmosphere filled with bright colors and the enticing scents of spices.
Nice small market with local fruits and vegetables and spices
Odi A — Google review
This is the local wet market for Mahe. It has fresh seafood, fruits, vegetables, and other daily "things" for sale here. The market building is typical French style and reflects the colonial period of French occupation.
C N — Google review
Small stalls and shops. Great for little souvenirs such as shells, hand crafted wooden items magnets etc but other than that not much to see or do. Local fruit & veg as well as large fish. Don’t go to Victoria just for the market you’d be disappointed.
Oliver R — Google review
This is the central market for fruits, vegetables, and fish in Victoria. It is bustling in the morning with the people doing their daily shopping. The second floor is the souvenir shops. Visit it in the morning. By 4pm, they behin closing down snd at 5, the market finishes.
Reza N — Google review
Smallish fresh fruit, fish and vegetables market, with spices and souvenirs as well. A popular tourist spot and locals also buy fresh ingredients from here. Drop by for some local produce

This market is an epic place. It will be renovated very soon. So I am looking forward to the new look.
Sabrina S — Google review
Nice to be here with fresh fruits but above all fresh fishes like bonito ( type of tuna)
Hachim — Google review
This is a must see landmark in the center of Victoria. Lots of ppl and many things to see and explore. A bit smelly b’cause of the fish but I’m sure you can stand it. Also the area around the market is worth seeing.

Victoria Clock Tower, located in the heart of Victoria, is a picturesque gem and a must-see landmark. Inaugurated in 1903 to commemorate Queen Victoria's passing, it stands as a historical symbol of Seychelles' colonial past. The prime location near the post office makes it a popular spot for both locals and visitors seeking a momentary escape from the bustling town center.
I felt the Victoria clock was small until I saw this picture 1960's then it did feel so big back then
Abdullah B — Google review
The centre of Victoria. Nice place for a photo. A lot of local shops nearby with Sir Selwyn-Clark Market. A must see, ease visit.
Piotr M — Google review
Erected in 1903 in memory of Queen Victoria who passed away 2 years prior. This is a symbol of the last colonial power Great Britain. Clock might look small but you have to take yourself back in the day when this was towering high in the middle of a road. Now it is a busy area with lots of things to visit in walking distance. They have lots of souvenir shops, museums, restaurants- a nice happening place. It’s hard to miss if you are here in Mahé.
Tas A — Google review
Known as "Lorloz" by the locals, this clock symbolises the colonial heritage of Seychelles and the settlers who have called Seychelles home. It was erected in 1903 in memory of Queen Victoria, who had passed away two years earlier. At the time, it was an indication of the strong ties between Seychelles and Britain. Now, it adorns one of the busiest intersections of the capital, and it is impossible to miss it while you are there.
Reza N — Google review
It's quite laughable when you see it in person. A nothingburger, frankly. It's a small construction, the type of which you may also see in your local park. The history behind it is not extraordinary, either. There aren't many things to see in Victoria, so they had to include something on the list, I guess. I don't regret going, though. The overall atmosphere in Victoria is... interesting.

The Victoria Botanical Gardens, also known as Mont Fleuri Botanical Gardens Seychelles, were founded in 1901 and are now managed by the Ministry of Environment. This scenic preserve is a great spot for picnics and leisurely walks to admire the local flora and fauna of Seychelles. Visitors can marvel at giant tortoises, coco de mer trees, various palm species, fruit trees, and more.
Very beautiful garden with special flowers and trees Giant turtles are exist and you can feed them with your hand. Recommend
Odi A — Google review
Beautiful gardens with some wonderful plants. You feel very small standing next to some of these tropical giants. The main road from the entrance has a few coco de mer trees. There is a giant tortoise enclosure where you can walk amongst them and feed them. It was a great experience. I would say it's quite expensive (250 SCR per person). There are maps in some places but not everything is sign posted and not a whole lot of information. Having said that, it's still very nice to walk around and enjoy it all.
Arash S — Google review
I found this experience/attraction completely underwhelming. It's a small ground. The cafe was closed and had no signs indicating this. So there was numerous tourists walking to the cafe to find it closed with no other alternatives available for even refreshments on a hot day. The tortoises was by far the best thing in the botanical garden.
Abdul A — Google review
I love botanical gardens. And this one sure hit the spot with its rustic natural. Not too much man-made manicured corners. Love the exotic flowers and trees. Garden is a 1 hr walk and it has elevation too. However Lots of bench throughout the park to sit. So no worries. Park needs more sign to explain where and what the plants are. They only have maps. Some signs are ripped and not updated. Love the tortoise section. Enjoyed feeding them. Little kids were having a good time too. Restrooms are clean. They have hiked the price. It was 100 SCR now it is 250 SCR.
Tas A — Google review
Lovely gardens, interesting range of plants. Best bit definitely the tortoise enclosure (although I feel they should have more space and enrichment). Only negative is the ticket office only accept card payments, no cash.
Katherine L — Google review
Its a beautiful botanical garden with a great diversity of plants. Especially the amount of endemic plants they have is impressive! Though the place is not only interesting for plants but also for the birds that there are. We found multiple different species like the blue pigeon, tropic bird, bulbul, fodys, myna, kestrel and some more. Also there are lots of flying foxes that can be photographed very well if you are lucky! Also there is a café at the end which serves great good and smoothies. Highly recommend it!! The only thing that I find unnecessary is the tortoise enclosures. This kills the vibe for me a little bit and gives it a zoo atmosphere... Overall go there to enjoy the plants, wildlife and good food at the café. Its a very nice place!
Henk R — Google review
Being the first place we visited in Mahè it was an amazing entry experience. All the notes worthy trees are well labeled with a brief description. There were some stinging bugs at one point close to the cannon ball tree, but other than that we had a great time.
Cobus M — Google review
It is very nice, but not too much to see and do. The giant tortoises are a great to see, but other than that, not too much else to do. Kids are free though, which is great.

Hiking Trails
Copolia Trail is a popular hiking trail on Mahe Island, offering a challenging yet rewarding trek through dense jungle to a summit with stunning 360-degree views. The hike can be completed in less than an hour by the average hiker and offers encounters with carnivorous pitcher plants along the way. While the trail can get humid due to the rainforest environment, reaching the top rewards hikers with breathtaking panoramas of Victoria and Eden Island.
An amazing trek leading to the top of a mountain with breathtaking views over the island. The variety of plants and animals along the way – for those who pay attention – is truly stunning. You can park your car by the roadside near a small building where tickets are sold.
Dariusz S — Google review
Nice trail through the jungle with breathtaking views at the end. Gets quite steep in some sections, you'll be sweating a lot. Bring good shoes, enough water and a fresh t-shirt to change into after the trail. Not for people that are out of shape. About 90min there and back plus some time at the top.
Damir O — Google review
What a hike ….. and what a breathtaking view of Mahé at the end! All worth it. Trail is very very hard just to be clear. Elevation is one thing but the stepping stones are very big and wide that it is hard to get up. Even getting down required big steps and all hikers need to be careful while doing that. Despite no rain, it was still slippery for that action. So come prepared with hiking shoes, water, healthy snacks and bug spray. Enjoy the wilderness and you might be lucky to see baby hedgehog or a mouse and some big spiders.
Tas A — Google review
10/10 on the views you get after the hike. Hike is steep in the starting and in the last leg but it’s worth it. Wear some good shoes.
Harshit — Google review
Excellent moderate trail around 2 km within Morne Seychellois nature reserve park. Quite steep mainly uphill. Takes around an hour and 15 mins round trip. Views are stunning and worth the hike from the top. Small steel ladder to climb the last bit. Quite safe but wear good non slip shoes. Not recommended if it has been raining as it would be very slippery unless you are seasoned hikers.
Ashwini C — Google review
There’s a moment on the Copolia Trail when the forest hushes, and the granite opens up beneath your feet like a stage. You stand there—sweat-slicked, heart thudding—and the world unfolds in layers: Victoria’s rooftops glinting below, Eden Island floating like a dream, and the Indian Ocean stretching out in impossible shades of blue. The hike itself is a gentle challenge. Not too long, not too easy. Just enough to make you earn the view. Ferns brush your legs, cinnamon trees scent the air, and if you’re lucky, a Seychelles blue pigeon might glide past in silence. The trail winds through Morne Seychellois National Park, and every step feels like a quiet conversation with nature. At the summit, the granite slabs are warm underfoot. You sit. You breathe. And for a few minutes, you forget the clock, the shift schedule, the noise. It’s just you, the wind, and the vastness. Copolia isn’t just a hike—it’s a reset. A reminder that beauty doesn’t shout, it whispers. And sometimes, the best views come after a little effort and a lot of stillness.
SREE — Google review
Nice climb up the mountains to an amazing view. Path is well carved and marked with painted dashes. Difficulty is easy to medium, you’ll stay fully erect on your feet for most of it. There’s a small ladder for the steepest part. With stops to take pictures on the way you can expect about 1.5 hours each way, including the chillout session at the top. Views are great. Bring some sunblock and shades for maximum enjoyment at the top. Highly recommended.
Khidhir A — Google review
The trail is so easy to follow, easy level if you're fit and have no injuries. Should take you 2.5 hours max. Fully covered with trees until you reach the top. Unfortunately I could not see the Victoria and the Island because of weather conditions and drizzles but nevertheless it was quite an enjoyable trail... I went on my own and felt completely safe. Look out for the pitcher plant when you get to the top...

Hiking Trails
The Morne Blanc Trail offers a challenging yet rewarding hike through an old tea plantation and mist forest to reach a clifftop viewing platform with stunning sea views. The trail is marked from the road and the path is relatively clear, but sturdy footwear and ample water are necessary as some sections require scrambling. The summit provides spectacular panoramic vistas of the island that make the trek well worth it for those who are in good physical condition and take their time.
Morne Blanc Trail is a must-do in Mahé! The hike goes through lush forest with a steep climb – about 1 hour up and 40 minutes down – but it’s absolutely worth the effort. The panoramic view from the top is breathtaking and unforgettable. 🌿🏞️
Yafit K — Google review
Wanted to get a solid hike in while in the Seychelles, overall I would describe it as "not worth it for the effort". The hike described online was moderate but at the trail itself had a sign that it was hard. You are pretty much going uphill the entire trail, the rocks you need to climb over get larger and larger to the point where I was frequently on all fours. My wife and I are pretty fit, but this was surely challenging because of the steep steps. The view at the top is nice, but not worth the effort it took. We were also stuck up there in the rain, but I'm trying to factor that out of my review. Took us 1 hour 45 minutes to go up and down with a decent stop at the top. There is street parking on the road.
Kevin B — Google review
Very beautiful hike through the jungle with breathtaking viewpoint at the end. Bring water, fresh t-shirt and appropriate shoes, beach flip-flops definitely not recommended. About 90min there and back, pretty steep on some sections. It's a shame that you have to backtrack the same way, would be even better if there was another path back. Parking on the main road, not the best, but manageable. No entry fee.
Damir O — Google review
No fee, free street parking. Mostly shady jungle trail. Well marked steep incline. Took us about 50min up and 30min down. Bring extra water. The clouds parted and we got a nice view at the top.
Alyssa B — Google review
Very nice trail in the deep forest with awesome views. The trail almost goes up the hill all the time. Bring good shows with you, no flip-flops!
B G — Google review
Morne Blanc is one of the hardest trails I’ve done in Seychelles. The path is steep and challenging, so be ready for a tough climb. But the lush green forest along the way is beautiful and peaceful. You’ll enjoy amazing views during the hike — they really make the effort worth it. I enjoyed every minute of the trail. However, I was a bit disappointed with the space at the top. I expected a wide open area like Copolia, but it’s quite small and cramped. The biggest problem is transportation. It’s very hard to find a bus or taxi to return to the capital after the hike. The best option is to go with your own vehicle or arrange transport in advance.
Sree — Google review
Amazing experience! Highly recommended to visit. Please note that Seychelles are covered with clouds and fog,so you have to wait for sometime for the view to clear up! It was very beautiful to see it by our own eyes and activity was great!
Ангелина Х — Google review
Morne Blanc Trail: Did it around noon in light drizzle. The trail is short but tough after ~200m (rocky uphill). At the top I only saw clouds, but on clear days the view is amazing. Transport: Took the bus via Victoria (SCR 10 each way). On return, no bus for an hour, so hitchhiked and paid SCR 100 back to Beau Vallon. Buses are cheap but infrequent, so plan extra time. Guide or No Guide? Honestly, no need for a guide. Trails are well-marked, entrance fees are now on a single online platform. Today I saw guides just walking ahead silently, not engaging with clients, not even clicking photos. Unless you want a naturalist to explain plants/animals, self-hiking is better. ✅ Tip: Carry water, good shoes is a must , and patience with buses.

Went with the family for dinner, service is good Atmosphere was also good with live music outside. Food is okay but depends to what is expected and to what to compare. Over all give it a try when you in Victoria. This is our second visit, first was three years ago ))
Dmitrijs L — Google review
Slightly more expensive The food average and overate. Atmosphere is good I ordered fish curry, which was the least nice comparing the last 3 places. So far, the best fish currys I had are from the Takeways places. Under 100 SRC and this place 295 SRC My wife's chicken sandwich only had egg inside, I told the guy with Indian accent guy. He was like yeah there are strips of it and had nothing inside, and then he walked off back to the pizza area. Then the other colleague saw our reaction and came over, took the food, and actually then had chicken inside.

La Dolce Vira is a very good restaurant in downtown Victoria in Mage Island to have something. The staff are very well-trained and professional and the quality of the food is very good. I had Bolognese pizza, and I loved the taste of it. There is both indoor and outdoor sitting areas.

I had the most delightful experience at La Dolce Vita restaurant: 1. The Italian coffee was divine, especially after 14 days of traveling through Seychelles. 2. The pizzas were scrumptious with a perfect crust. 3. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the service was quick. 4. The ice cream was to die for, and I highly recommend the cheesecake flavor. 5. The prices were reasonable considering the Seychelles norms. 6. The peaceful garden/patio provided a wonderful ambiance. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience, and I'll definitely be returning! 🍕☕🍨😊

I’ve been here multiple times for lunch and breakfast, and the experience is consistently pleasant. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, which adds to the warm atmosphere. The coffee stands out — absolutely amazing every time, definitely one of the highlights! They also offer a great variety of ice creams and desserts, which were delicious and worth trying. The food was okay overall, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I had hoped. . Still, the place has a nice vibe, making it a great spot to relax, have a drink, and enjoy some snacks.

We stayed at this place for three hours as long we were waiting for our driver to take us to the airport. Very friendly, polite and the place is really clean. Amazing pizza also.
Theodoros M — Google review
The place is good if you want to hang out with friends for drinks. I won’t recommend an outing as a family. Exhaustive list of drinks and food. However, on our reservation, sadly, the food took 45 mins to arrive. We were given a complementary pizza due to the fact that food was taking long. The burger I ordered wasn’t cooked well. You could still taste the raw soya sauce. The salad also wasn’t that good. Though the waitress seemed a bit nice, that’s a plus. We were seated outside which was good as we had fresh air but bit of an issue if there was rain. Bit disappointed as I’ve heard so many good reviews. On a separate day, I waited for like a good 15mins just for a small coffee order. I can understand the guys are under a lot of stress but they have to cope.

The place looks very nice, compared to the other cafes we have seen in Victoria. The waiters were also very attentive. We ordered a club sandwich, which was fine. Unfortunately we didn’t have good experience with chicken so far in Seychelles, as it’s cheaply imported most probably. Then we ordered 2 iced coffees which were very delicious and then we had a cake and a doughnut. The pastries were quite dry unfortunately. So I would give an overall rating of 4 Stars to this place. ⭐️

I didn’t like the patty in burger. It was definitely frozen but we are on the island and probably there’s nothing can be done about it. Anyway, service was good, portion was big. There is no WiFi though. And price is quite high, 16€ for a burger. Touristy place.

Sam's Pizzeria is a cozy restaurant with a pleasant ambiance and friendly staff. The food is well-presented and bursting with delightful flavors, from the incredibly delicious pizza to the excellent prawn linguini pasta. The refreshing mojito perfectly complements the fantastic food. Despite its limited space, this place offers great value for money and an amazing setting. What a nice hidden restaurant! Good modern furniture, quick and friendly service, fair prices and good value! Can totally recommend! ✅

I had dinner on my last night in Victoria, and it was a very good experience in Sam's Pizzeria. Their menu is not limited to only pizzas and their serve steaks and seafood as well. Their pizzas come on thin crust, and it is big in portion. It seemed like they were understaffed at the time I visited since one person was responsible for everything there, from taking orders to serving and bringing the bill. It would be nice if they raise the number of their staff.

We went there so you do NOT have to go there!!! That this restaurant is still open is a huge mystery for me. Workers there are looking reality show on the tv super load and do not turn it off when guest arrives, do not know very well English. Pizza dough is a finished peace and the chef just add the ordered topping on it, bacon was just fat and no meat. I got 4 small pieces of ribs that was precooked, not even warm when served and the have they the balls to change higher prices then what is standing on the menu. I highly recommend you to NOT go there and I mean this for you own good and to spend that money on something waaaay better then that!!

Indian restaurant
Mahek Restaurant is an Indian gourmet dining spot located within the Coral Strand hotel in Beau Vallon, just a short distance from Savoy. The restaurant offers a wide selection of traditional Indian cuisine served in antique ware and features a show cooking kitchen where guests can observe the chefs at work. While specializing in vegetarian dishes, Mahek also provides options for non-vegetarian fare. Visitors can enjoy views of the waves lapping on Beau Vallon beach from window seats inside the fully air-conditioned restaurant.
A Truly Delightful Experience at Mahek Indian Restaurant! Our recent visit to Mahek Indian Restaurant in Seychelles was an highlight of our trip! A special shout-out must go to Neel, who took incredible care of us throughout the evening. His attentiveness, warm hospitality, and knowledgeable recommendations made us feel so welcome and ensured every need was met. It's rare to encounter such dedicated service, and Neel truly elevated our experience. The food was simply excellent. Every dish we ordered was bursting with authentic flavors, perfectly spiced, and beautifully presented. It was clear that great care goes into preparing each meal. We particularly loved the masala tea – it was the perfect comforting end to our delicious dinner. Beyond the fantastic food and service, the restaurant boasts beautiful views of the Indian Ocean right along the beach. And to top it all off, the menu was reasonably priced, offering fantastic value for such high-quality food and an unforgettable setting.

This place is an excellent find for delicious dining in Seychelles. Really good service and excellent dishes and located directly on the beach. Reasonable prices, not much higher than in Europe and some dishes even lower. If craving Indian food, this place is worth a try. They are also very generous in portion sizes.

All vegans we know the Indian restaurants are one of the safer places to eat something if you don’t have a vegan restaurant in your town. Much plates are vegetarian but with some changes you can eat a lot of plates and tasty also.

Everything was very tasty and fresh. Very nice mango lassi. The restaurant at the beach with ocean view. Nice service. We’ve ordered: • STARTERS: - masala fish finger (Rs 190): tasty with indian spices • NON VEGETARIAN MAIN COURSE: - nadan lamb curry krela (Ra 350): succulent lamb curry with southern spices and coconut: very tasty! - Mahek fish curry (Rs 250): fish, onion, tomato, garlic, brinjal, potato, chilli, curry leaves: sooo good!😍

Good food, the tandoori chicken was delicious. The curry of the butter chicken was good but the chicken itself was smelly and chewy. Nice location, lots of seating and staff is good.

It’s our favourite place to eat. Absolutely delicious food and super friendly staff. I recommend the octopus masala, black squid ink chicken, fish fingers, but honestly you could choose anything, because so far anything we ate was delicious. The view is amazing too, you can watch the sunset from the terrace.

A lovely Indian restaurant with a warm atmosphere. They offer plenty of vegan options, and the staff and chef are happy to adapt dishes upon request.

Mahek Restaurant, located within the Coral Strand Smart Choice Hotel at Beau Vallon Beach, is a must-visit for authentic Indian cuisine in Seychelles. The restaurant offers a delightful ambience, with both indoor and outdoor seating that enhances the dining experience. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the food quality is excellent with a wide variety of options to choose from. Chef Joe along with other staff members personally ensured that our dining experience was exceptional, customizing dishes to suit our preferences. We especially loved his signature dessert, 'Anjeer aur Dahi ki Lau', which was simply outstanding. The masala tea we had here was the best of our entire trip. I would highly recommend Mahek Restaurant to anyone craving Indian food while visiting Seychelles.
