Nature & Parks
The West Coast National Park is a beloved destination known for its stunning islands, beaches, and salt marshes. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, whale watching, and game viewing. The park offers opportunities for day outings and overnight stays in houseboats or cottages. Kraalbaai provides a beautiful beach and water sports activities like swimming and seasonal flower spotting during the annual flower season from August to September.
The west coast national park is situated in Langebaan on the Cape West Coast. August to September is the flower season. Postberg is open until 30 September. Entrance was free this time due to National Heritage week. I think its about R150 per person if you are a South African citizen. You can cycle in the park, I think people run as well. Very popular with bird watchers as it offers a large variety of bird species. There is an entrance on the West coast road, normally a long wait here in season. Best to go through Shark Bay in Langebaan. There are stunning braai areas in the park. Preekstoel is one of them. Amazing views of the lagoon. Various food trucks are also stationed at various points. Kraal Baai is ideal for swimming and a picnic. Bring umbrellas as it can get very hot in the summer months. Thank you SA for keeping our parks well maintained.

Spring, flowers = West Coast National Park... Flowers are blooming in Spring, you gotta catch one of nature's beautiful natural flower shows... It's worth contacting the park prior to taking the beautiful drive, as each year the flowers bloom at different times, some years they come early and Visa-virsa... You can also pre-register and all enquire about the park fees, we went on one of their free entry days... It's better to fill out forms online, if you forget or don't have a chance, you can register on the day... West Coast National Park, is a fantastic place for hikers, gravel cyclists and mountain bikers. Its also a perfect place for a hot summers day and a #Splash in the natural lake. If you are a 'Bird-Watcher', West Coast National Park hosts a total of over two hundred and fifty (250) bird species annually, it really is very beautiful. #Picnic or a short day trip, on the way stop @TheBirkenhead Melkbosstrand shopping centre to pick up your picnic supplies, we stopped in on the way back for beautiful Fish'n'Chips... An end to a great day out...
Kurt S — Google review
Even though it was cloudy and we did not see many flowers, we spotted loads of animals and the beaches were beautiful ! The park was not too crowded for a Saturday which was nice but was definitely due to it being overcast. Toilets are well kept!
Emma V — Google review
The park has amazing views of the lagoon and the sea. We have been cycling in it, and because the road are quiet, they are very pleasant to cycle on. We were there during the flower season and everything was on point. However, after the peak of the season passed, it was not maintained to the same standard, which was a pity.
Leslie P — Google review
🌸 Spring at its best! The West Coast National Park is absolutely breathtaking during flower season. Endless fields of daisies and vibrant wildflowers create a colorful carpet that feels magical. The park is well-kept, peaceful, and perfect for a day trip with family or friends. ✨ Highlights: • Stunning floral displays (August–September is peak season) • Relaxed driving routes with plenty of photo stops • Clean facilities but picnic spots can be better • A must-see for nature lovers and photographers Highly recommend visiting early in the day to avoid crowds and get the best light for photos. A five-star experience!
Eugene W — Google review
I cannot think of any place more beautiful to spend Spring day in - surrounded by bursts of colour as far as the eye can see. The view of the Langebaan lagoon from 'Preekstoel' is breathtaking. The roads in the park are well maintained and well sign posted. The entrance fee is minimal and the gate staff were friendly and efficient. Experiencing the beauty of nature here during August / September should be on every persons bucket list.
Erna T — Google review
I had the pleasure of visiting the West Coast National Park this past weekend, and the experience was nothing short of breathtaking. The wildflowers are in full bloom, painting the landscape in the most vibrant colors. The park itself is immaculately maintained, and what stood out most was the respect visitors show toward nature and one another—no rushing, no hooting, just a shared appreciation for the beauty all around. You can purchase lovely guidebooks to help identify and mark the birds and flowers you spot along the way—well worth it, as the proceeds go to a good cause. The park is also perfect for a picnic, just be sure to leave no trace behind. For those who prefer, there are food stands at certain points offering delicious meals, cappuccinos, and even amazing ice cream. I highly recommend a visit with your family—it’s a truly special experience that combines natural beauty, tranquility, and a sense of community care.

The sea of flowers is absolutely stunning! It’s very close to Cape Town — perfect for a day trip. The beach inside has warm, shallow water, ideal for kids!!

Nestled in the heart of the West Coast, the West Coast Fossil Park is a captivating destination that invites visitors to journey back in time. Here, you can marvel at an impressive collection of fossils from creatures like short-necked giraffes and saber-toothed cats that once roamed this region millions of years ago. The park features a three-level museum where guests can delve into the fascinating history of these ancient animals, making it an enriching experience for all ages.
What a lovely visit, the whole centre is well put together. Our guide, Andrea, was knowledgeable and patient with questions. She is a good story teller.
Lynn H — Google review
I was disappointed because the prices I'd seen online were obviously dated. There are 4 things to do, at R50 each, which works out a bit pricy. So we decide to just do the museum on this trip. The museum was beautifully done and very interesting. All the space, from the floor to the ceiling, was used. And I found one of my favorite plants along the path to the complex.
Leslie P — Google review
A Journey Through Deep Time at the West Coast Fossil Park The West Coast Fossil Park, a declared National Heritage Site near Langebaanweg, is one of South Africa’s most remarkable windows into our planet’s ancient past. Around five million years ago, this region was alive with giraffe-like creatures, sabre-tooth cats, hyenas, and giant pigs, all preserved today in one of the richest fossil deposits of its kind in the world. Guided tours take you right into the original dig site, where bones still lie in the earth exactly where they were found, and passionate guides bring those long-extinct worlds to life. What makes the experience so special is how alive it feels. The exhibits, trails, and in-situ fossils tell a powerful story of Africa as a place of abundance and transformation, full of life, constantly giving, and always evolving. It’s family-friendly, educational, and deeply grounding, showing both children and adults where we’ve come from and how the world has changed over time. For anyone visiting the Cape, this is an absolute must-see. It’s adventurous, insightful, and unforgettable! A place where science meets wonder. I highly recommend it for any family or curious traveler who wants to witness deep time in a place you can touch, see, and feel.
J — Google review
Our family visited the West Coast Fossil Park recently and we absolutely loved every second! The kids were given a chance to dig for some fossil bones and the joy on their faces when they found something was precious! The museum was absolutely state of the art and there were just more to explore around every corner. Unfortunately we ran out of time and was not able to visit the dig site but we will definately return for this experience and spend more time in the museum again! We were fortunate enough to meet Pippa and learn from her vast experience! I HIGHLY recommend a visit to the park and the best part is that ALL ages will enjoy this.
Marlene F — Google review
I wanted to go for a while and I am glad I did. I learned about how this area was more lush and able to support larger animals before it transitioned to the drier fynbos landscape it is today. Need to look up more on the pollen fossils. Amazing how places change over geologic time.
Alfredo N — Google review
A beautiful day out with a glimpse into the past. The coffee shop was also a highlight with a cool verandah close to the museum. We bought the kids archeological dig box & it was so much fun scratching away.

A stop worth making. A beautifully kept building. Friendly and efficient staff. There is so much to learn even though there aren't any dinasours😁The restaurant has only basic foods.

A must visit. The museum is brilliantly curated and the tour can't be missed. Learn about the details of life 5ma years ago. The ecological rehabilitation of mine is award winning.

Surprisingly great, looking better inside than from outside. Good slides, smaller and bigger heated pools, cool jacuzzi. Definitely a nice time out for the whole family.

The children enjoyed all the different amenities. The adults played putt-putt, braaied and then had a dip in the hot pools. It was a fun filled awesome day. Defs going again.

What an amazing establishment. I don't have anything bad to say about this place. We just enjoyed it so much. You can braai here or buy food on the premises. There's braai spots with shading and a table and seating. The hot water pools was amazing and clean. It's also situated across a big supermarket, so if you need something, you can literally run to the shop. Lots of fun stuff to do here for the kids like trampolines, slides , miniture golf and video games. Will definitely recommend to everyone.
Cheslyn H — Google review
Waited an hour for our burgers. The park was very busy but could do with some organisation during busy times. My daughter can't swim and was a bit overwhelmed by other swimmers jumping over her and drenching her... even though "lifeguards" were on duty they were not controlling the swimming areas safely.

Amazing any day of the week, great for kids and parents needing a break. Awesome staff and great value for money! Thanks for the increadible hospitality!

Lots of fun activities available! Water slides, super tube, heated pool, paintball, pool tables, mini golf, pedal carts, tuck shop, braai facilities and many more!!! There are lots of benches and seating areas (shaded) and parking close to the entrance. Full day and half day passes available and you can even only pay for certain activities. Definitely worth every cent. We will visit lots more!!

The Langebaan Beach in Western Cape is a beautiful, family-friendly beach with soft sand and stunning ocean views. It's perfect for a quick beach stop or fun outing, and there's plenty of space to walk or launch your boat. The wind can be quite strong here, but it's great for watching the wind surfers.
This was a 1.5hr drive from Table View, a beautiful straight stretch with an Engen with a wimpy just before you turn. It was overcast so I never got to really experience the full beauty

Such a lovely spot for walking with your doggies. Just such amazing place to swim as well and have family time. It is in the lagoon, so no big waves.
Shirley C — Google review
Very clean and well maintained. Basically no waves so it's perfect for small children. Lots and lots of wind surfers around
Jp R — Google review
Very nice beach but not for swimming. The water is too cold for swimming and it's mostly windy. Nice if you want to do kite surfing or just watch people kite surf. The beach is long so it's also nice for long walks if the wind doesn't blow you away.

Pearly’s Restaurant is a must-visit gem that offers not only delectable dishes but also stunning views of Langebaan beach. This bustling spot doesn’t take reservations, so be prepared for a possible wait to snag a table. The menu boasts an impressive variety, from aromatic seafood paella and flavorful grilled hake served with curried sauce to fresh oysters and clam chowder that kick off your meal perfectly.
5/5 Stars I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Perley's Restaurant and it was truly an unforgettable experience! The butter chicken with rice and roti was hands down the best meal I've ever had - the flavors were rich and perfectly balanced and the portion was generous. But what made the experience even more special was the stunning view of the sea. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. The customer service was top-notch - the staff were friendly, attentive and made sure we felt welcome throughout our visit. Overall, I highly recommend Perley's Restaurant to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. Can't wait to come back and try more of their delicious dishes!

The smoked snoek samoosas are incredible and the platter for 2 is such good value for money. The staff are lovely, friendly and super efficient. Highly recommend!

The food was goodish. The crab burger wasn't flavourful or real crab. The fish and chips were good but not crisp at all. The pasta dish was very good. Beer was excellent 🫠 Service was 💯 Friendly and kind staff. The Atomostphere was awesome. Great view in the summer. Great fireplace in the winter. Prices are very fair 👌🏽 Keep up the great service. Food needs some improvement.

A lovely spot thats right on the main Langebaan beach front. Super food, we came for dinner and the hake and chips was super. Great views. Especially at sunset. There are indoor tables and some on the patio.

Had lunch there today with some very good friends visiting from New South Wales. We all enjoyed our meals (Kingklip & Calamari, Mussel & Linefish curry, Fish Red Thai Curry). The star of the show was the Smoked Snoek Samosas (divine), with some tasty Mocktails (Strawberry Daiquiri & Fake It). The ambience was relaxed, service was good, waitrons friendly & the view of the lagoon was spectacular. All-in-all a lovely lunch venue thats reasonably priced and literally a few steps from the water. A must visit if peaceful seaside afternoons are your vibe 💕

Perly's is a well maintained restaurant on the beach front. Everything about our dining experience was excellent! From the quality of the meals served to the generous portion sizes to the impeccable customer service. Our waiter's attention to detail was fantastic. A portion of the restaurant is pet friendly. We called ahead to book a table as the restaurant was rather busy as peak lunch hour.

Nestled just before the Vredenburg/Paternoster turnoff on the R27, Weskus Spens Padstal is a delightful farm stall that beckons travelers with its all-day breakfast offerings and mouthwatering homemade treats. Run by the talented Annemarie Thom, this charming spot is renowned for its freshly baked plaasbrood, crafted in a traditional wood-burning Dover oven.
We were on our way to Saldanha to film for our Braai Adventures video when we finally decided to stop at Weskus Spens Padstal, a spot we’ve driven past so many times and always wanted to visit! It’s located on the R27 between Saldanha and Vredenburg, the perfect stop when exploring the West Coast. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The padstal has a bit of everything, from freshly baked bread and sweet treats to local leather products and handmade goods. You can even sit down inside or outside and enjoy a lovely breakfast or lunch. We bought a sourdough bread big enough to feed an army, for only R80! It was absolutely delicious and made the perfect braaibroodjies later that day. Definitely a 10/10 from us! The sourdough was baked in an old wood stove, which gives it that real homemade flavor. We also tried their famous roosterkoek with jam and cheese , honestly the best we’ve ever had. It’s made right in front of you on a braai in the garden area, which makes the experience even more authentic. While we waited, the friendly staff even offered us coffee on the house, which made us feel so welcome. If you’re ever on the R27, make sure to pop in at Weskus Spens Padstal. It’s a warm, charming stop with something for everyone, and an experience that truly captures the heart of the Weskus!

Awesome place. You can find quirky gifts in this shop while making a short stopover. They have genuine leather goods, ‘west coast’ centric tees, mugs you name it. It looks like their stuff is hand made and not mass produced. Lovely pies too.

Nick, nacks and snacks. A must pop in curio and dining shop shop on the West Coast road. There are a wide variety of gifts on offer including leather products. There is a dining area with real farm style meals on offer.

What a unique shop. Typical weskus road stalletjie. Stock everything, and baked fresh bread and pies. Different types. Jams and everything. Such a nice stop where you can stop and grab a quick bite.
Benny C — Google review
A farm stall that takes you back in time – truly nostalgic! From bokkoms to kaiings, it’s a taste of tradition. And just when you think it can’t get more authentic, the donkey’s honk reminds you it’s almost lunchtime… and he’s waiting for his carrot!
