Nature & Parks
The West Coast National Park is a beloved destination known for its stunning islands, beaches, and salt marshes. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, whale watching, and game viewing. The park offers opportunities for day outings and overnight stays in houseboats or cottages. Kraalbaai provides a beautiful beach and water sports activities like swimming and seasonal flower spotting during the annual flower season from August to September.
The west coast national park is situated in Langebaan on the Cape West Coast. August to September is the flower season. Postberg is open until 30 September. Entrance was free this time due to National Heritage week. I think its about R150 per person if you are a South African citizen. You can cycle in the park, I think people run as well. Very popular with bird watchers as it offers a large variety of bird species. There is an entrance on the West coast road, normally a long wait here in season. Best to go through Shark Bay in Langebaan. There are stunning braai areas in the park. Preekstoel is one of them. Amazing views of the lagoon. Various food trucks are also stationed at various points. Kraal Baai is ideal for swimming and a picnic. Bring umbrellas as it can get very hot in the summer months. Thank you SA for keeping our parks well maintained.

Spring, flowers = West Coast National Park... Flowers are blooming in Spring, you gotta catch one of nature's beautiful natural flower shows... It's worth contacting the park prior to taking the beautiful drive, as each year the flowers bloom at different times, some years they come early and Visa-virsa... You can also pre-register and all enquire about the park fees, we went on one of their free entry days... It's better to fill out forms online, if you forget or don't have a chance, you can register on the day... West Coast National Park, is a fantastic place for hikers, gravel cyclists and mountain bikers. Its also a perfect place for a hot summers day and a #Splash in the natural lake. If you are a 'Bird-Watcher', West Coast National Park hosts a total of over two hundred and fifty (250) bird species annually, it really is very beautiful. #Picnic or a short day trip, on the way stop @TheBirkenhead Melkbosstrand shopping centre to pick up your picnic supplies, we stopped in on the way back for beautiful Fish'n'Chips... An end to a great day out...
Kurt S — Google review
Even though it was cloudy and we did not see many flowers, we spotted loads of animals and the beaches were beautiful ! The park was not too crowded for a Saturday which was nice but was definitely due to it being overcast. Toilets are well kept!
Emma V — Google review
The park has amazing views of the lagoon and the sea. We have been cycling in it, and because the road are quiet, they are very pleasant to cycle on. We were there during the flower season and everything was on point. However, after the peak of the season passed, it was not maintained to the same standard, which was a pity.
Leslie P — Google review
🌸 Spring at its best! The West Coast National Park is absolutely breathtaking during flower season. Endless fields of daisies and vibrant wildflowers create a colorful carpet that feels magical. The park is well-kept, peaceful, and perfect for a day trip with family or friends. ✨ Highlights: • Stunning floral displays (August–September is peak season) • Relaxed driving routes with plenty of photo stops • Clean facilities but picnic spots can be better • A must-see for nature lovers and photographers Highly recommend visiting early in the day to avoid crowds and get the best light for photos. A five-star experience!
Eugene W — Google review
I cannot think of any place more beautiful to spend Spring day in - surrounded by bursts of colour as far as the eye can see. The view of the Langebaan lagoon from 'Preekstoel' is breathtaking. The roads in the park are well maintained and well sign posted. The entrance fee is minimal and the gate staff were friendly and efficient. Experiencing the beauty of nature here during August / September should be on every persons bucket list.
Erna T — Google review
I had the pleasure of visiting the West Coast National Park this past weekend, and the experience was nothing short of breathtaking. The wildflowers are in full bloom, painting the landscape in the most vibrant colors. The park itself is immaculately maintained, and what stood out most was the respect visitors show toward nature and one another—no rushing, no hooting, just a shared appreciation for the beauty all around. You can purchase lovely guidebooks to help identify and mark the birds and flowers you spot along the way—well worth it, as the proceeds go to a good cause. The park is also perfect for a picnic, just be sure to leave no trace behind. For those who prefer, there are food stands at certain points offering delicious meals, cappuccinos, and even amazing ice cream. I highly recommend a visit with your family—it’s a truly special experience that combines natural beauty, tranquility, and a sense of community care.

The sea of flowers is absolutely stunning! It’s very close to Cape Town — perfect for a day trip. The beach inside has warm, shallow water, ideal for kids!!

Nestled in the heart of the West Coast, the West Coast Fossil Park is a captivating destination that invites visitors to journey back in time. Here, you can marvel at an impressive collection of fossils from creatures like short-necked giraffes and saber-toothed cats that once roamed this region millions of years ago. The park features a three-level museum where guests can delve into the fascinating history of these ancient animals, making it an enriching experience for all ages.
What a lovely visit, the whole centre is well put together. Our guide, Andrea, was knowledgeable and patient with questions. She is a good story teller.
Lynn H — Google review
I was disappointed because the prices I'd seen online were obviously dated. There are 4 things to do, at R50 each, which works out a bit pricy. So we decide to just do the museum on this trip. The museum was beautifully done and very interesting. All the space, from the floor to the ceiling, was used. And I found one of my favorite plants along the path to the complex.
Leslie P — Google review
A Journey Through Deep Time at the West Coast Fossil Park The West Coast Fossil Park, a declared National Heritage Site near Langebaanweg, is one of South Africa’s most remarkable windows into our planet’s ancient past. Around five million years ago, this region was alive with giraffe-like creatures, sabre-tooth cats, hyenas, and giant pigs, all preserved today in one of the richest fossil deposits of its kind in the world. Guided tours take you right into the original dig site, where bones still lie in the earth exactly where they were found, and passionate guides bring those long-extinct worlds to life. What makes the experience so special is how alive it feels. The exhibits, trails, and in-situ fossils tell a powerful story of Africa as a place of abundance and transformation, full of life, constantly giving, and always evolving. It’s family-friendly, educational, and deeply grounding, showing both children and adults where we’ve come from and how the world has changed over time. For anyone visiting the Cape, this is an absolute must-see. It’s adventurous, insightful, and unforgettable! A place where science meets wonder. I highly recommend it for any family or curious traveler who wants to witness deep time in a place you can touch, see, and feel.
J — Google review
Our family visited the West Coast Fossil Park recently and we absolutely loved every second! The kids were given a chance to dig for some fossil bones and the joy on their faces when they found something was precious! The museum was absolutely state of the art and there were just more to explore around every corner. Unfortunately we ran out of time and was not able to visit the dig site but we will definately return for this experience and spend more time in the museum again! We were fortunate enough to meet Pippa and learn from her vast experience! I HIGHLY recommend a visit to the park and the best part is that ALL ages will enjoy this.
Marlene F — Google review
I wanted to go for a while and I am glad I did. I learned about how this area was more lush and able to support larger animals before it transitioned to the drier fynbos landscape it is today. Need to look up more on the pollen fossils. Amazing how places change over geologic time.
Alfredo N — Google review
A beautiful day out with a glimpse into the past. The coffee shop was also a highlight with a cool verandah close to the museum. We bought the kids archeological dig box & it was so much fun scratching away.

A stop worth making. A beautifully kept building. Friendly and efficient staff. There is so much to learn even though there aren't any dinasours😁The restaurant has only basic foods.

A must visit. The museum is brilliantly curated and the tour can't be missed. Learn about the details of life 5ma years ago. The ecological rehabilitation of mine is award winning.

Surprisingly great, looking better inside than from outside. Good slides, smaller and bigger heated pools, cool jacuzzi. Definitely a nice time out for the whole family.

The children enjoyed all the different amenities. The adults played putt-putt, braaied and then had a dip in the hot pools. It was a fun filled awesome day. Defs going again.

What an amazing establishment. I don't have anything bad to say about this place. We just enjoyed it so much. You can braai here or buy food on the premises. There's braai spots with shading and a table and seating. The hot water pools was amazing and clean. It's also situated across a big supermarket, so if you need something, you can literally run to the shop. Lots of fun stuff to do here for the kids like trampolines, slides , miniture golf and video games. Will definitely recommend to everyone.
Cheslyn H — Google review
Waited an hour for our burgers. The park was very busy but could do with some organisation during busy times. My daughter can't swim and was a bit overwhelmed by other swimmers jumping over her and drenching her... even though "lifeguards" were on duty they were not controlling the swimming areas safely.

Amazing any day of the week, great for kids and parents needing a break. Awesome staff and great value for money! Thanks for the increadible hospitality!

Lots of fun activities available! Water slides, super tube, heated pool, paintball, pool tables, mini golf, pedal carts, tuck shop, braai facilities and many more!!! There are lots of benches and seating areas (shaded) and parking close to the entrance. Full day and half day passes available and you can even only pay for certain activities. Definitely worth every cent. We will visit lots more!!

The Langebaan Beach in Western Cape is a beautiful, family-friendly beach with soft sand and stunning ocean views. It's perfect for a quick beach stop or fun outing, and there's plenty of space to walk or launch your boat. The wind can be quite strong here, but it's great for watching the wind surfers.
This was a 1.5hr drive from Table View, a beautiful straight stretch with an Engen with a wimpy just before you turn. It was overcast so I never got to really experience the full beauty

Such a lovely spot for walking with your doggies. Just such amazing place to swim as well and have family time. It is in the lagoon, so no big waves.
Shirley C — Google review
Very clean and well maintained. Basically no waves so it's perfect for small children. Lots and lots of wind surfers around
Jp R — Google review
Very nice beach but not for swimming. The water is too cold for swimming and it's mostly windy. Nice if you want to do kite surfing or just watch people kite surf. The beach is long so it's also nice for long walks if the wind doesn't blow you away.

Pearly’s Restaurant is a must-visit gem that offers not only delectable dishes but also stunning views of Langebaan beach. This bustling spot doesn’t take reservations, so be prepared for a possible wait to snag a table. The menu boasts an impressive variety, from aromatic seafood paella and flavorful grilled hake served with curried sauce to fresh oysters and clam chowder that kick off your meal perfectly.
5/5 Stars I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Perley's Restaurant and it was truly an unforgettable experience! The butter chicken with rice and roti was hands down the best meal I've ever had - the flavors were rich and perfectly balanced and the portion was generous. But what made the experience even more special was the stunning view of the sea. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. The customer service was top-notch - the staff were friendly, attentive and made sure we felt welcome throughout our visit. Overall, I highly recommend Perley's Restaurant to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. Can't wait to come back and try more of their delicious dishes!

The smoked snoek samoosas are incredible and the platter for 2 is such good value for money. The staff are lovely, friendly and super efficient. Highly recommend!

The food was goodish. The crab burger wasn't flavourful or real crab. The fish and chips were good but not crisp at all. The pasta dish was very good. Beer was excellent 🫠 Service was 💯 Friendly and kind staff. The Atomostphere was awesome. Great view in the summer. Great fireplace in the winter. Prices are very fair 👌🏽 Keep up the great service. Food needs some improvement.

A lovely spot thats right on the main Langebaan beach front. Super food, we came for dinner and the hake and chips was super. Great views. Especially at sunset. There are indoor tables and some on the patio.

Had lunch there today with some very good friends visiting from New South Wales. We all enjoyed our meals (Kingklip & Calamari, Mussel & Linefish curry, Fish Red Thai Curry). The star of the show was the Smoked Snoek Samosas (divine), with some tasty Mocktails (Strawberry Daiquiri & Fake It). The ambience was relaxed, service was good, waitrons friendly & the view of the lagoon was spectacular. All-in-all a lovely lunch venue thats reasonably priced and literally a few steps from the water. A must visit if peaceful seaside afternoons are your vibe 💕

Perly's is a well maintained restaurant on the beach front. Everything about our dining experience was excellent! From the quality of the meals served to the generous portion sizes to the impeccable customer service. Our waiter's attention to detail was fantastic. A portion of the restaurant is pet friendly. We called ahead to book a table as the restaurant was rather busy as peak lunch hour.

Farm shop
Nestled just before the Vredenburg/Paternoster turnoff on the R27, Weskus Spens Padstal is a delightful farm stall that beckons travelers with its all-day breakfast offerings and mouthwatering homemade treats. Run by the talented Annemarie Thom, this charming spot is renowned for its freshly baked plaasbrood, crafted in a traditional wood-burning Dover oven.
We were on our way to Saldanha to film for our Braai Adventures video when we finally decided to stop at Weskus Spens Padstal, a spot we’ve driven past so many times and always wanted to visit! It’s located on the R27 between Saldanha and Vredenburg, the perfect stop when exploring the West Coast. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The padstal has a bit of everything, from freshly baked bread and sweet treats to local leather products and handmade goods. You can even sit down inside or outside and enjoy a lovely breakfast or lunch. We bought a sourdough bread big enough to feed an army, for only R80! It was absolutely delicious and made the perfect braaibroodjies later that day. Definitely a 10/10 from us! The sourdough was baked in an old wood stove, which gives it that real homemade flavor. We also tried their famous roosterkoek with jam and cheese , honestly the best we’ve ever had. It’s made right in front of you on a braai in the garden area, which makes the experience even more authentic. While we waited, the friendly staff even offered us coffee on the house, which made us feel so welcome. If you’re ever on the R27, make sure to pop in at Weskus Spens Padstal. It’s a warm, charming stop with something for everyone, and an experience that truly captures the heart of the Weskus!

Awesome place. You can find quirky gifts in this shop while making a short stopover. They have genuine leather goods, ‘west coast’ centric tees, mugs you name it. It looks like their stuff is hand made and not mass produced. Lovely pies too.

What a unique shop. Typical weskus road stalletjie. Stock everything, and baked fresh bread and pies. Different types. Jams and everything. Such a nice stop where you can stop and grab a quick bite.

A farm stall that takes you back in time – truly nostalgic! From bokkoms to kaiings, it’s a taste of tradition. And just when you think it can’t get more authentic, the donkey’s honk reminds you it’s almost lunchtime… and he’s waiting for his carrot!

Scenic Escape with Stunning Views, but Beware of Load-Shedding A lovely getaway from the city center, offering breathtaking views and plenty of aesthetically pleasing spots for photos. I highly recommend booking a sea-facing room to fully enjoy the stunning scenery, especially the beautiful sunsets. However, one major downside is the lack of generators in the apartments. During load-shedding, the entire place is plunged into complete darkness, which can be quite inconvenient. Overall, a picturesque and relaxing destination, but be prepared for power outages if you’re visiting during load-shedding periods.

I stayed over for a week and had the option of having all meals served. It was something different every day and one can see the effort put into it. Thank you, Julian. Everything was always warm and fresh. To Bradly, thank you for always being ready with any inquiry I may have, even when it does not concern the lodge. Bradley surely does go above and beyond the call of duty. Krisnae, so friendly and helpful and always placing the client first. It was a treat and the Saldanha Bay Lodge comes highly recommended by me.

I absolutely loved my short stay at this little gem of a place. It was peaceful, clean, and I was very grateful for the tea, coffee and milk because I'd not packed any in. I loved the bathroom and the bed was super-comfy. Johan was the perfect host: a warm welcome, and then I was left in peace. It was good to see all the wildlife and to wake up to chirping birds. I'll be back as soon as I can 😍💯

Beautifully decorated wedding venue, but unfortunately it comes at a price. The owner could be more pleasant though and like to interfere in arrangements and will even cut power to your DJ equipment when he thinks it is late enough. The bar is extremely expensive. The food was very nice though.

Set in a beautiful location with an amazing venue. Sufficient size for large numbers. Beautiful decor in the venue with impressive carriages suspended in the roof. Pays tribute to the 1900s. Great wedding venue, enough of parking available and the food was very tasty and well portioned. Very impressed with this authentic West Coast venue!!

Awesome venue for a Wedding or special function. Spacious. Best part is the accomodation on the premises. Plenty parking available. Just outside town, so perfect for us this weekend. Friendly welcome upon arrival. Recommend that you book the self catering room with the massive balcony. Value for money. Beautiful big bath in the bathroom and a shower! Nice touch by leaving us milk and rusks. Appreciated thanks!

Marcs Beach Bar is a popular spot in Langebaan known for its lively atmosphere, delicious food, and stunning beach views. Visitors rave about the friendly staff, great prices, and wide variety of food options. The place often gets packed, but finding a seat is worth it for the opportunity to enjoy mimosas on the beach with live music in the background.
Mark's Beach bar located in Langebaan on the west coast The bar / restaurant is right on the beach, a fantastic location with indoor and outdoor setting overlooking the beach. absolutely stunning, perfect for watching sunrises and sunsets. The service was impeccable and they paid attention to detail. The food was absolutely delicious Everyone had something different on menu. The birthday boy was there for the infamous seafood platter - he savoured it and enjoyed it thoroughly. portion sizes are really generous and just perfect food for sharing with celebrating with friends. There a bar sports, TVs and it's a really viby atmosphere. A must if you up thr west coast. I highly recommend it.

Service was on point, quick and attentive. Good guide on dishes and answered all our questions. Food was quick and hot but lacked a lot of seasoning. Chips were also very oily inside, can understand cause it’s frozen. Would look into making homemade chips. Homemade bread with the mussels was very nice but again needed salt. And the nachos don’t work with potato chips they were very soggy. But would definitely go again
Malaika P — Google review
First time visiting here and it was very good. Great view with friendly staff and a good selection on the menu. Food was mostly good, though the Irish Nachos were not to our taste. Staff were very friendly and helpful, something one does not see regularly in South Africa anymore. If you're looking for a very well priced menu with a good selection of dishes, a cosy kuier spot, then this is the place for you.

Hidden gem. Awesome views with service to match. The food was good, honest fair. Decent size menu with large selection. Pricing is reasonable. Beer choices are excellent from local to imported with lots of choices on tap. Large cocktail menu and good wine list.

What an incredible spot! I had the most amazing mussels at Marc’s Beach Bar – absolutely fresh, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. Honestly, wow. The setting right by the beach makes the whole experience even more special, relaxed yet lively, and the service was warm and attentive. If you’re looking for a place where great food meets a laid-back seaside vibe, this is it. Highly recommended – especially the mussels!

Me and some friends had lunch. Nice food (very affordable). A good variety of beer and overall a great very lekker vibe. The sea-view at the tables outside was a bonus. I'm definitely going back whenever I'm in Langebaan or surrounding areas. Our waiter, Delia, was very friendly and very helpful!

Pub
Captain's Cabin Restaurant & Pub is a lively seafood restaurant located just 50 meters from the Saldanha coast, offering stunning views. Guests have raved about the delicious and well-prepared dishes, including cod, burgers with flavorful sauce, crayfish specials, and perfectly cooked Eisbein. The friendly staff members have been praised for their helpfulness and hospitality. Visitors also appreciate the warm and welcoming service provided by Johannes.
After the grueling 10km Saldanha Bay Health run, a winding, hilly course, we collapsed into our cozy cottage. The scent of sea air clung to our clothes as our hungry stomachs rumbled, muscles screaming in protest. We dashed to the local pub, seeking the fishermen’s advice—surprisingly unanimous: “Captain’s Cabin.” A half-minute drive later, we parked. Warm smiles greeted us as we climbed the stairs to the deck, the salty tang of the ocean strong in the air. Below, the harbor shimmered; boats gently rocked, seagulls cried overhead, their wings a blur against the twilight sky. The sun dipped, painting the sky in fiery purples and golds, then the full moon rose, its light glittering on the water. A truly romantic scene. The owner, with a firm handshake and bright smile, suggested a feast: golden beer-battered hake, crispy fries, fragrant steamed vegetables, and a vibrant Greek salad. Huge portions, unbelievably affordable. No wonder it’s called the Gem of the West Coast, a “must-see” in national magazines. They didn’t disappoint, and it wasn’t because I’m a celebrity—nobody recognized me.

Firstly, the looks and feels like a cool place, clean, neat, fairly spacious, friendly staff with a pleasant greeting on arrival. I understand its was a bit slow so it's understandable that service was a bit slow, but what we as a very Hungary, thirsty, reddy to spend and exited (group of 5) about the good things we heard about this beautiful place from our friends and locals. What really frustrated/confused us as a group of 5 had to sit without any background music BUT what was confusing is that we asked politely for someone to put some background music on we were straight up just told no. Otherwise, it's a cool, comfortable place with an amazing view. There's nothing bad to say about this place in general and and I'd change my review a bit if im given a valid reason instead of just no.
Leon M — Google review
Best Espetada by far in Saldanha, and surrounding areas! Amazing view great vibe and the owner is Portuguese so it goes without saying that the food is beyond expectations!
Tammi F — Google review
My husband and I were there yesterday . He had the 1kg prawns and I the seafood platter for one. The prawns had the most horrible sauce “ lemon & herb “ that didn’t go down well at all. The muscles and sauce were also not tasty at all. It was very disappointing. The fish, calamari and savoury was edible and nice. The waitress provided us with excellent service and was very friendly and helpful. Last night we didn’t feel well and this morning we had cramps and upset tummies. Fortunately I brought medication with. Not a great way to spend one’s birthday.

Really loved this! Was our first time visiting and will definitely be back! There was live music so the vibe was amazing and the food was delicious. Our waiter made a few mistakes but she stayed friendly and corrected the mistakes immediately so overall good experience!

"Daai Plekkie in die Weskus" is a hidden gem that has recently undergone a transformation, bringing new life and personality to the dining experience. Nestled away from the daily grind, this restaurant offers a serene atmosphere where you can unwind on the patio while enjoying stunning views of the water. Guests have praised the friendly and attentive staff, creating an inviting environment for families and pets alike.
Went to the restaurant. Superb service. Most friendly staff I have encountered in a very long time. Very relaxing and kids and dog friendly. Right on water but safe with no waves and food looked excellent. Didn't eat as we were to early for lunch and just missed the breakfast buffet. Would recommend booking first as all tables were reserved. Can't go wrong here. They have done a great job.

This place is "West Coast" to perfection. It has that understated appeance backed up by real personality and genuine quality. Small touches like a wood stove in the well appointed rooms are an example of the extra effort put in to make your stay comfortable. The setting and views are West Coast at its best. The food looks very ordinary but the flavours and preparation are exceptional.
Frank F — Google review
We had a great service from the get go, being greeted with open smiles from all the staff. The staff were really helpful and attentive and we even had a nice chat with one of the managers Jaco. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Unfortunately we came late in the evening so we couldn't get the most of the view, but worth the visit.

This place is situated in a beautiful spot away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It was so relaxing to sit on the patio outside overlooking the water while we had our meal. Fantastic!
Anzel J — Google review
Great potential but correct few minor things need fixing. Atmosphere was ok. Overall and ok-ish experience but could have been better though. Had the catch of the day which was Kob but in all honesty, I could have made it better myself. First time I had tasteless Kob. Restaurant staff need to be trained properly. You cannot have 3 different managers and two waitresses coming to ask if everything is still in order every 5 minutes. That is an overkill and annoying. One young manager seemed completely out of his depth and childish. Souvenir merchandise are hugely overpriced and because there is not much else to buy in Jacobsbaai to take home, one tends to grudge purchase. It feels like rip-off and is. Not good for your business. Parking bays are a complete mess with too narrow parkings and ropes which make no sense other than trying to trip someone while getting out of their vehicles. Watch out for a civil claim in future if someone gets injured.
Djfg — Google review
The view and location is absolutely perfect. Restaurant hours were very short at the time of my visit and travelling. I found the kitchen already closed or not yet open. Next time I need to plan better to eat while the sun is shining! Parking is limited.

Wow. This is the best this place have been in 18 years. I have been in West coast since 2007 and this restaurant changed hands many times since then. I stopped going there but learned that there were new owners. It was an awesome experience. For the first time there is a soul, a personality in the place. The food is awesome, the service friendly and happy. What a pleasent experience. Keep it up, you are doing it right. Thank you.

Waffle Wharf is an extraordinary eatery that offers delightful waffles to satisfy your cravings. These waffles are incredibly light, fluffy, and crispy. They excel in both the savory and sweet options, offering a fantastic dining experience. The establishment also crafts their own delectable ice cream that perfectly complements the waffles. While there were some minor issues with cleanliness in the bathrooms, they can easily be rectified to make this restaurant deserving of a five-star rating.
Had a great breakfast with friendly and attentive service. Had the red velvet waffle and it was amazing. Would recommend!

Really great waterfront location, and great seafood. The Crayfish Curry, with rice was delicious. There's also a steak, ribs, or burger on the menu . . . Back again today for some pork ribs & chips. Simply put, absolutely delicious
Harald S — Google review
Really lovely experience here. We had the lamb curry waffle and the caramelised apple waffle. Both were completely delicious. The toppings really stood out. The waffles themselves were fine, but not anything to write home about, but they were made to go with the toppings, which make it work perfectly.
Benjamin H — Google review
Great food, well priced, fantastic service, enough parking, inside and outside dining options. Definitely the must try restaurant at the Waterfront.
Gideon R — Google review
The wife and I decided to go all crazy and have waffles and ice-cream for breakfast at 9am. As it turns out, this was a brilliant idea. The waffles were delicious. I had chocolate delight while she had the bar one. My topping looked "busier" but both were really good and worthy of further visits. We each ordered a flat white because, well, it's still breakfast. The coffee was smooth and strong. Equally worthy of a return visit.

As the Whale's Rib and the Waffle Wharf share a location you can choose between seafood or everything waffle. We decided to go for seafood at the Whale's Rib. There was a buzzing atmosphere and they were super busy, but luckily we got a table big enough for our group and ordered some of their on-tap craft beers. If you make a booking I recommend you make one for a table outside as you will then have a clear view of all activity at the Paternoster Crayfish Wharf as well as the ocean.  We also ordered some food, which looked good and was very tasty. One of the guys in the group even went for a waffle from the Waffle Wharf (it's a nice touch that you can cross order). Although the food and atmosphere was great, their service let them down severely. Initially our waiter was very attentive, but later on he basically forgot about us. The manager then started intervening, bringing some of our dishes that were still outstanding (most of the group had already finished eating). Our one friend didn't get the sauce that was meant to come with her dish so had to ask for it, and even though she wanted to take her leftovers home, the waiter didn't ask and threw the used serviettes etc into her plate and took it away before she could say anything. They were very busy that day, but could have handled it better. Overall if it wasn't for the service it would have been a much better experience.

Cape Columbine Nature Reserve, home to the last manned lighthouse built in 1936, is located on a windswept coastline just outside a fishing village. The area offers breathtaking natural beauty and camping facilities with clean toilets and showers. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails and experience the vibrant forces of nature, although sunscreen is recommended due to limited shade. The reserve also boasts spectacular scenery, including rock outcrops and a wide range of bird species.
Did the 9km hike from Seekombuis to Tietiesbaai. Beautiful scenic hike. Easy and level, no experience needed. Flowers are beautiful too. Finished off our hike with the best seafood curry at Seekombuis... Exquisite food.

Cape Columbine Nature Reserve is a beautiful place to visit – the drive in and around the park is lovely, and the coastline with its wildflowers in season is definitely the highlight. Unfortunately, the card machine at the gate wasn’t working when we arrived, which was a bit inconvenient. Still, worth the trip for the scenery and natural beauty.

Cool place where you can feel the vibrant forces of nature. Hike can be uneven at times but still mild to moderate. No shade; consider sunscreen or physical protection. We made it all the way up to the lighthouse with a total 8k covered but the hike can truly be as short or long as you want.

Thank you to Ronnie and Carmen for the great service at the gate, and our camping holiday during December. What a great holiday with clean ablution facilities, refuse removal, cleaned sites and the security. All was noted with great appreciation! Julle is tops! Van almal in blok G!

Absolutely loved this place. 5 mins drive to Paternoster. We felt safe camping here for 4 nights and the natural beauty of this area is really breathtaking. Hiking trails are few and swimming in the ocean is an invitation to experience hypothermia 😁😁 but we loved the experience. Toilets and showers are clean (hot water is solar powered and never gets boiling). No plugs so have a portable solar accessory. We spent the days playing frisbee and just loving the view. With paternoster a close drive there isn't a restaurant or coffee shop that isn't within reach. Advise driving or cycling to town though.

Extremely Beautiful Rockformations around the coastline, with thousands of shell excrement covering parts of the beach. There is alot of ocean life in and around the ocean...we saw alot of whales close to the coastline on our trip there. There is off grid camping wich is very pleasant, no light polution. The nightsky was unbelievably astonishing to look at with the naked eye. Its just too difficult to stop gazing at the stars lighting up the nightsky. Wakeing up in the morning right next to the coast is very refreshing. There is amblution blocks and braai facilities. This is well worth the trip. Leave footprints, not trash!

I highly recommend the pottery experience. Diana is the facilitator of the pottery class. She is extremely knowledgeable about the clay, its formation, history, composition, and how to work it. She mentors you during the class. She provides guidance and practical assistance. It was an absolutely memorable and extremely wonderful experience. Team building activity.

I love the relaxed, creative vibe of Di's studio situated in the heart of Paternoster. If I am looking for a special gift or spoil I head there to browse and I love a delicious cup of Origin Coffee Oppi Stoep :-) Friendly people and welcoming space. Don't miss it when you visit Paternoster next!

What a lovely shop! If you go on a Saturday you can make pottery and they will bake and glaze it for you in the week. I bought the most beautiful soap dishes there. All handmade and made locally. Definitely worth a visit.

Our family of 5 went to do a pottery class with Di, kids ages 6 and up. None of us have any experience or gift with any form of art. Di was kind and patient and helped us get a feel for creating our own pottery. Our family chatted and joked while we created bowls. During the lesson Di made helpful suggestions and pointed us in the right direction, making even the weakest students (me) look good. A fantastic experience that added to our family holiday spirit. I didn’t choose this activity, however next time I would.

The Vasco Da Gama Monument, an iconic historical structure, stands as a symbol of the renowned Portuguese explorer's maritime achievements. This significant landmark serves to commemorate Da Gama's pivotal role in establishing trade routes between Europe and India during the Age of Discovery. The monument represents an enduring testament to the profound impact that his voyages had on global exploration and trade. Its architectural grandeur showcases intricate designs and fine craftsmanship, captivating visitors with its majestic presence.
This is such an extremely important site to visit. To stand where Vasco da Gama first landed and discovered Southern Africa in 1497 and also spent 10 days recording everything he experienced and saw. Everyone that loves SA should at least make a turn here.
Benny C — Google review
Historic Place. The first spot in Southern Africa where Christians landed ashore. Toilet facilities totally wrecked... 😳
Johann R — Google review
Given is historical importance of this area, the upkeep really lets it down as the bathrooms are in a complete state of disrepair and there is no plaque to give tourists more information. The road going to the monument is not tarred and degrades in the rain. So it's not ideal for smaller vehicles. Great views over the ocean and a pleasant walk along the beach.
Duncan A — Google review
Beautiful view sad to say the Monument are a bit neglected
Yolande V — Google review
The place can get more publicity. The road to the site can be tarred and more detail given. Difficult to read the inscriptions. Maybe it can be secured because ablution facilities have been vandalised.
Peter K — Google review
Completely underwhelming for a monument to such a great world explorer, Vasco da Gama. Come on Western Cape, you can do better.
Simone P — Google review
“The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history” -George Orwell This monument is completely disregarded by the municipality most probably due to anti-colonialist sentiment (while it makes sense that people harbour disdain; history -however dark and ugly- should always be preserved truthfully), and thus vandalism, a lack of informative signage, rubbish accumulation and all-round damage to the monument and surrounds are rife. Shame on the Western Cape municipality for allowing this atrocity!

Lighthouse Shelly Point is a charming lighthouse located near the Shelley Point Hotel and Spa. Visitors can enjoy a quiet beach with beautiful scenery and well-preserved coral. The area is known for its peaceful atmosphere, where seals can be spotted eating crayfish and lounging on the beach. While access to the lighthouse itself may be restricted, the surrounding untouched beaches offer a picturesque setting for leisurely walks and wildlife observation.
Shouldn't miss this place... The light ✨️ house is situated on the edge of the sea. To get to this place, you have to enter the complex, which is called Shelly point. Pass the security and mention to them you are going to see the light house. Then, drive 🚗 your care and follow the GPS and park your car in the parking area closer to the lights house, which is showing in the picture. From here, only 8 to 10 minutes of walking🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️distance. Otherwise, if you walk from the security area, it takes 30 minutes to get to the light house. This is one of the stunning 😍 places to take pictures and see the beach ⛱️ 😎 😍 very closer. The sea 🌊 water 💧 is Cristal clear and excellent blue color. The walking experience is so present 🎁 😍 ✨️.

Shelley Point Lighthouse is a true hidden gem. Peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a quiet walk or stunning photos. The ocean views and calm atmosphere make it such a special spot to visit. Highly recommend!
Tina C — Google review
I love walking to the lighthouse, its a great beach walk and the beach is full of beautiful shells and stones. You have to go through the Shelly Point boom gate, I have heard of people being refused access, however I have never had any issues. The security will direct you to the car park, and then enjoy a wonderful stroll.

The lighthouse in Shelly Point, St Helena Bay, is a charming spot worth visiting. Its peaceful surroundings and stunning ocean views make it a perfect place for a relaxing stroll or some quiet reflection. While the lighthouse itself is small, its simplicity adds to the serene coastal atmosphere. Unfortunately, the lighthouse isn't open, but you can climb up the stairs onto the balcony which runs all the way around the lighthouse. There are sometimes seals on the rocks! Don’t forget your camera, it’s a lovely spot for photos! According to Google, the Shelley Point lighthouse, also known as the Stompneus Point lighthouse, in St. Helena Bay, South Africa is not open to the public, but the exterior is visible. The lighthouse was built in 1920 by the owner of the surrounding estate, and is technically a "lead light" rather than a lighthouse.

Shelley Point Lighthouse is a beautiful spot to explore. The walk along the seashore is peaceful and scenic, with plenty of wildlife to spot along the way. A perfect place for a stroll and to take in the natural beauty of the coastline.

A paid beach entrance with no people on the beach when we were there till we got to the lighthouse and people were entering with no fee paid to get to it. Beautiful scenery with well-preserved coral. Its a quiet place where seals eat the crayfish and lay on the beach. Beachfront houses/accommodation where people go for a daily swim.

I spent two nights in Paternoster. I saw the restaurant “One Kreeftegang” when strolling around at the waterfront on my first afternoon. I made a reservation for my second night. And as my reservation at another place couldn’t be confirmed I went to “One Kreeftegang” - on both my evenings in Paternoster. What a beautiful place with delicious food, a beautiful view, nice service and a very attentive manager. If I ever come back to Paternoster I will also come back to this place. 🫶🏻

My fiend and I night in Paternoster on Thursday and came across this fabulous restaurant located on the Paternoster Waterfront. The decor, views, customer service, presentation of food, taste of food, washroom facilities…is simply Superb! We had grilled Yellowtail served with vegetables and chips. It was pure perfection. One of the best restaurants we’ve been to on our travels in Cape Town. It deserves many repeat visits. Highly recommended!!

One of the few restaurants open on a Sunday evening in Paternoster. Large menu (possibly too large). I went with sushi (which was very good) and chicken gyoza that were not so good, way overcooked and lacked flavour Service was very slow (and they seem to have lost my booking), even though there were only a handful of tables eating. Fabulous sunset views though

The Hungry Monk Paternoster is a top choice for food in the area, offering a diverse menu that includes oysters, traditional seafood, sushi, steak, and lamb shanks. The restaurant now provides WiFi for guests. The service is excellent and the food is delicious, with options like oysters and mussels served in a delightful white wine sauce.
Fantastic! Sorry red roof u got some catching up to do ... this place has wifi ! No questions asked :) if u want reviews u should possibly have wifi — so well done guys for joining the planet and offering ’wifi’ ! Ok so the food and service was excellent- had oysters and mussels- may I add the mussels were not in that terrible white cream flour paste stuff - but in a very nice white wine sauce . Loved it .... Bar
The Panty Bar is a unique and nostalgic local bar located in a great West Coast setting. It epitomizes the hospitality, atmosphere, and 'gees' of the area. The bar offers an array of ice-cold beers, including the local artisanal brew Paternoster Pilsner from the Paternoster Brewery. In addition to beer tastings, they also serve a variety of drinks, including an alcohol-free sparking Honey & Rooibos on-tap.
Well just had to visit. Something absolutely different. Seems like a cool place to hang out.

I've been in a few bars similar around the world, but still unique. Lionel, the bartender, was brilliant with the history of the bar. I learned that SA alcohol content per volume is much higher than the US. Enjoyed some Springboks and Panty Bar beer.

Very disappointing. Run down, bathroom light out, looked more like a store room. Were there on a Monday, very quiet. Zero service, had to look for someone to be seated, waited for ever for our food which was unappetizing at very competitive prices. A never to be repeat experience.

This is by far one of the most incredible hidden GEMS in St Helena Bay. What an amazing place. From the staff to the owners to the most incredible plate of food, cooked and served to perfection. Fantastic value for money. You can not miss popping in here.
Sean E — Google review
Seemingly a favourite amongst the locals, this place will do itself a favour by picking an area of speciality and perfecting it. The current menu reads like a Wilbur Smith novel with no real plot. It ranges from seafood to pizza to burgers and steaks. During our visit I can safely say that seafood is not their thing. I ordered the calamari starter and the mussel pot starter as my main: the calamari was palatable. The mussels lacked flavour (I added some of the garlic and chilli that came with the pizza which definitely helped) and the bread served with it seemed three days old. My daughter had the BBQ chicken pizza which she described as something resembling the frozen box pizzas we can just pop in the oven. The chicken appeared a bit lacklustre and coated in a strange pink substance and then covered with loads of cheese. My son had the 300g sirloin, pepper sauce and hot veg which was the only winner out of all the dishes we ordered. This is also the only reason why they received 3 stars for food. Service was hit and miss but mostly acceptable. A lovely establishment but definitely room for improvement.
Veronica E — Google review
Our host invited us to her local spot, a truly great place managed well. The steak was not a good cut and was changed for a sirloin prepared to perfection. Decor is a win, and the music did not overpower the conversation. A go to place for sure

This was in St Helena Bay on the West Coast. What a beautiful town. At JP's, the food was good. The waitress was amazing. It was cosy and had a pleasant vibe. It's a small restaurant. Reasonable pricing, and a nice variety of menu options. The coffee milkshake was one of the best we'd tasted. The reason for the 4* is because the pizza oven was smoking so much that our eyes were really burning, and it was difficult to breathe. It was okay after the oven stopped burning. Otherwise, lovely place. Oh and they have a separate bar area.

This is a great and comfortable service in Langebaan. You contact them via whatsapp, give the #of persons, your pickup and destination address and pick up time. They give you the price. We used it today to visit West Coast Fossil Park. Since the guided tour finished earlier then expected we decided to visit Paternoster. They were kind and so quick to make necessary arrangements according to our wish. Our driver Cyndy was so friendly and kind. We loved her recommendation for lunch which was such a nice bonus. We went in several times to rent a canoe and they told us the wind was too dangerous. They told us to come back in the morning. We tried 4 different days and there was almost a perfect kayaking weather with no kite surfers and they refused to rent to to us. We finally found someone on the beach that said it's not a problem to kayak. We went out and the water didn't have any currents and there were other kayakers. This place probably wants to rent to kite surfers because there is more money. But we wasted our vacation constantly coming to this place with empty promises to rent to us.

Neptune's Cave Shell Shop is an incredibly impressive store that offers a wide variety of beautiful sea shells. With numerous intriguing options available, it remains the perfect destination for anyone seeking these stunning treasures. However, it should be noted that in comparison to previous visits, there were fewer shells on display this time around. Nevertheless, the shop now boasts a greater selection of soaps and other miscellaneous items.
If you’re looking for gorgeous shells this is definitely the place to find it. Some items are very pricey though. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely tourist shop if you're an overseas tourist with forwign currency. For local South Africans it's a rip off for R120 for a small fridge magnet. The area is home to a diverse range of wildlife including tortoises, caracals, foxes, mongooses, reptiles, antelopes, zebras and ostriches. Visitors can embark on an overnight hike during the peak flower season but permits are limited and sell out quickly.

Beautiful flowers!😀❤️ Sunday was a little crowded. 🙃

Busy, but not unbearably. Beautiful and peaceful scenes made a relaxed day out. Visited for the wild flowers, stayed for a picnic on the beach. Queue to get in was well managed amd took maybe 5-10 min maximum.
Tim E — Google review
The scenery is magnificent and the flowers always beautiful. The lovely restaurant is now an eye-sore and really one loo is just not adequate. If the honorary Rangers can assist with this it would help. The laborious 3 system entry also needs some streamlining.
Leigh-ann O — Google review
We had an amazing experience with the overnight hike. Went in August during the peak of flower season. There are limited permits for overnight camping and it gets sold out very fast. This part is only open July to September. The hike is moderate around 15 km the first day mostly flat but some elevation along the way. You can drive to the camp site before starting and drop all heavy items there in the storeroom and return to start the hike with only essentials. The path goes all around the nature reserve through beds of wildflowers which is amazing. Photos cannot describe the beauty. The camp site is next to the road by a beach. Once the day visitors leave, you have the place to yourselves and the experience is amazing. The rangers do provide some wood and a grill if you want to braai but recommended to carry extra wood for the camp fire. Day 2 hike is easy back to the start

This store not only offers fantastic deals—like getting the cheapest item free when you buy three—but also boasts an impressive selection of products to meet all your needs. The atmosphere is always welcoming, with friendly staff who are eager to assist and ensure you have a pleasant shopping experience.

Not even deserving of the one star. Did a large online order for essential basics for my elderly mother on Tuesday 9 April for collection at this store. Saturday 13 April the tracking order still displayed it as processed. I phoned the store to enquire where I was told if I haven't received the sms it is not ready for collection. Today 16 April still no sms. I decided to take the 30min drive to the store. I speak to the very sighing manageress who tells me again if I don't have the sms there is nothing she can do and I then need to phone online orders. After asking but how is it possible she reluctantly asks my surname and with no smile or words walks to the store at the back. She comes out with no apology just 'do you have the sms now' I look at my phone and yes there is the sms. I ask her why this happened and again no apology or sorry just 'it arrived on Friday the 12th but I was not at work on Friday'. Now I ask you today is Tuesday. What would have happened it I didn't drive there today? Would it have been sent back? Shocking is an understatement!

"Don't believe their specials. You will not always get the advertised discount. This feels like misleading advertising. To make matters worse, they do not allow photo evidence in their reviews, which makes it impossible to show proof. Isn't that convenient for them?" ---
Elizma M — Google review
Whenever we take a drive up the West Coast then we make a turn at Weskus Mall to have something to eat and stock up on the great specials this Clicks always has to offer. They offer amazing sales like if you buy 3 of a range, you will get the cheapest one free. My husband loves specials so he will buy anything on sale even if we don’t really need it! The store is spotless and the staff are super friendly and helpful at all times

The most unhelpful pharmacy in the world you get a number from a machine, sit in front of them for 22 min ... they don't call your number then your number disappears of the board with no announcement and then they say oh it must have been called then you say you sat here the entire time it wasn't called ... then they just shrug you off ... useless

Really eclectic combination of curios art and clothes. What a priviledge to see a Maneki factory shop. Did my Christmas buying in February! Every one is so friendly.

Very nice art space with local creators. Nice variety of styles and items from handbags to jewelry and pottery and paintings. Really enjoyed our walk through. Not all stores were manned so when I was interested in an object in a stall I was unable to find a price or a salesperson. That is a shame but otherwise, some very nice items!

Nestled along the stunning Langebaan Main Beach, Driftwoods Restaurant and Sushi Bar is a must-visit for seafood lovers. This vibrant eatery offers a relaxed atmosphere where you can savor generous portions of fresh seafood while soaking in breathtaking views of the lagoon and kite-surfers. The menu boasts delightful options like paella, Thermidor, and an impressive platter for those who can't decide. With friendly staff and ample parking, it's an ideal spot to unwind after a day in the sun.
Nice place on the lagoon. Ample parking. Funky vibe. Not too pricey. Staff very friendly. Awesome view

Food was what one would expect from a an establishment of this nature. Not over the top good. But not bad. The waiter was friendly and made suggestions regarding our order. View of the lagoon and a great place to bring the kids and relax on a Sunday afternoon.

Prime location facing Langebaan Main Beach, making for a great lunchtime setting if you can get a table on the deck. Awesome seafood; try the paella or the Thermidor for a real treat - or the massive platter for one if you can't choose.
Claira C — Google review
This place intrigues me. It intrigues me that that they still get such a high number of visitors. I'm assuming it's due the fact that this place has a prime location with a beautiful view of the lagoon, because that's where the positives stop. They very clearly uphold their reputation for slow service over the few years I had chanced visits to this place. Then there is the food: bad, tasteless, most likely cooked from frozen (a big no-no on the West Coast) and way overpriced. Wake up management.
David E — Google review
Driftwoods has always been a favorite when visiting Langebaan! The pizza was a first for me, but it was amazing! Fun in the sun and a great meal was a perfect combination to end off a lunch before we head back to Cape Town!

Right on the beach, great food and drinks. I don't understand why this place gets terrible ratings. Our waiter, Alex, was attentive and informative. We had very tasty food and he gave us enough time to chat and order. Perhaps people expect fast food? We were 4 for lunch and 2 diners ordered pizza and 2 ordered other. Dispite the food coming from two kitchens, we all got served together. My cajun chicken stack was perfectly prepared. Compliments to the chef, all round. We will be back.

De See Kat Restaurant, previously located on the main road, has now moved to the picturesque Paternoster Waterfront, offering an even better setting right on the beach. The restaurant is highly praised for its excellent food and top-notch service. However, what truly sets it apart is the breathtaking ocean views and captivating atmosphere. Visitors rave about the outstanding quality of food and commendable service, making it a favorite dining spot in town.
This was our second visit and still the best experience. Beautiful place with so much character. Waitron Lizette was superb. We had snoek samoosa, crispy rice tuna, bean curd spicy prawn, angel fish and gourmet burger. All delicious and so beautiful presented. Thanks

5 Stars for Carmen the waitress and for the manageress! Another 5 stars for the seating & Affogato dessert. However, the food is a disappointment and definitely not worth the price. Would I go again? Yes but just to enjoy the view with a cappuccino.

A very nice place right on the beach in Paternoster. We had a seat outside and it was pet friendly. They brought a water bowl for doggie, We only stopped for a short while for a beer and a cocktail. We had the cheese platter that was extremely well priced. The staff was friendly and efficient. I can't really give a longer review as we were only there for a short while. Hopefully next time we can stay longer. The views are spectacular, and the setting is the best. Thank you

Have to give it a 5. We went for cocktails the night before and booked for a late lunch for the next day. First and foremost- Vanessa. The most unbelievable personality, she read each table like the pro she is. Joke with one, loud with another, calm and respectful with the next. I have not seen someone in charge like that in many years. That alone is enough to go and visit. The views are amazing, the service is all about sit back and relax, take your time and do not rush. Drinks were always served promptly, ice cold and correct. For lunch we shared a calamari tentacles starter with a pineapple & ginger salsa- 10/10. I am always nervous to try a fish like Angel fish in a restaurant as they can be overcooked in a flash. It was perfect. We also had the king prawn and calamari combo with Spanish rice. Again, cooked, presented and tasted amazing. They are not flame grilled, more than likely pan fried, so a much more gentle flavour and a firmer prawn- really really good. All in all: view fantastic, food fantastic, service fantastic. We live in the Cape, this is certainly not a tourist trap- it’s 10/10 on all levels. Highly recommended.

We had really good food. The sushi was huge and fantastic. The best sushi I had this year. We built our own seafood platter. Enjoyed the yellowtale. Great service!
Hannari L — Google review
Wonderful setting and view, good vibe and service. But the food was somewhat disappointing. Although very well presented, both the catch of the day (Angelfish) and the King Prawns were overcooked. A bit of a let down, especially given the price. We won’t be returning.

Wonderful seaview, friendly staff, great atmosphere and the chef is a genius with food. Tasty, well seasoned, fish cooked perfectly. Haven't seen a bukketraube on a menu in ages. Cedarberg Bukketraube is highly recommended.

We didn’t have a reservation, but the team at De See kat still made a plan for us — and we couldn’t have asked for better service. Fine dining restaurant
Wolfgat is a renowned restaurant located in Paternoster, offering a unique dining experience with a focus on West Coast produce and wine. The Bistro, which is the sister restaurant to Wolfgat, presents a distinctive tasting menu known as the Strandveld menu. Visitors can enjoy an exceptional culinary journey featuring various taste sensations using locally sourced ingredients from the West Coast.
We finally had the opportunity to experience Wolfgat. I must say it definitely lives up to its name. We really enjoyed every aspect of it. I loved the many courses most of the served and explained by Kobus. One soon find out that this culinary experience is not just a meal. And contrary to what I have heard, the food was more than enough. A day well spent.
Jan M — Google review
Superb! The food was excellent, really well balanced, with tastes and ingredients I have never tried before. I would happily repeat tomorrow. The service was high level while still maintaining a really relaxed atmosphere. The setting is beautiful. Well worth the two hour drive from Cape Town.
Clinton G — Google review
Out of the high end restaurants in the greater Cape Town area, I waited a long time to visit wolfgat. First of all, getting a table here is nothing easy. Second of all, the philosophy behind the restaurant is quite special and you’ve got to understand what Kobus, the chef owner, wanted to transmit before heading there. I have to say that I was transported by the experience. Some dishes were incredibly special but the value proposition is what I remember. It’s the one of a chef that wants to showcase local ingredients and wines, of someone who wants to stay simple yet elegant, to small yet aim big and keep things slow for you to appreciate. Some may not like it because you do spend quite a long time at the restaurant but the view and the atmosphere has to be fully taken in. Talk to the chef, talk to the waiters, they have stories to share and are deeply proud of the products that they use and cook. I would gladly come back and deeply respect what Kobus is offering. It is such a special trip that this cannot be just summarized as a lunch.
Robin F — Google review
Wolfgat, famously crowned Restaurant of the Year at The World Restaurant Awards in 2019, enters every diner’s radar with high expectations. Yet much of its current reputation feels anchored in past acclaim rather than present performance. The location in Paternoster is breathtaking, with views over the bay that alone justify the trip. Unfortunately, the restaurant itself shows signs of fatigue: minimal upkeep and dated presentation detract from what could otherwise be a strikingly authentic coastal charm. Service is friendly but undertrained. Standard fine-dining protocols were not followed — cork testing was delegated to the guest, bottle preparation was careless, and overall execution lacked polish. Chef Kobus van der Merwe’s presence in the dining room initially raises hopes for a personal connection to his philosophy, but his reserved manner left us with little insight into the creative vision behind the dishes. The result is a service experience that feels hesitant and inconsistent rather than world-class. The set tasting menu, presented on a photocopied sheet, comes across as sterile. In an environment that should celebrate narrative and context, this stripped-down approach undercuts the storytelling essential to modern fine dining. The food itself is good: rare indigenous ingredients, interesting textures, and thoughtful lightness define the plates. Even unconventional touches, such as beer ice cream with sorghum, were technically well executed. Yet while the dishes impress, they never fully transform into the immersive “experience” that a global accolade suggests. Without stronger articulation of concept, the food risks being appreciated rather than remembered. In the South African fine-dining landscape, peers such as FYN and Salsify currently offer more integrated, polished experiences across service, cuisine, and atmosphere. Wolfgat has potential — its location and chef’s dedication are undeniable — but unless it raises standards in service, presentation, and guest engagement, it risks being remembered as a once-celebrated restaurant that failed to evolve.

Such a unique and wonderful setting. Details of the cuisine, from presentation to explanation, was fantastic. A definite bucket list experience.

I recently dined was an experience worth sharing. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere. The ambiance was perfect — clean, stylish, and inviting. The menu offered a wide variety of dishes, and I tried the [dish name], which was cooked to perfection. The flavors were well-balanced, fresh, and beautifully presented. The portion sizes were generous without being overwhelming. The service was excellent — the staff were attentive, polite, and knowledgeable about the menu. Drinks were served promptly, and food arrived without long delays.
Mietah S — Google review
I took a few days to reflect on our experience at Wolfgat, and I felt compelled to share my thoughts. As a seasoned food enthusiast, my review is subjective, and your experience may vary. I have immense respect for local chefs like Kobus, whose culinary artistry I appreciate. The Highlights 1. I commend Wolfgat's commitment to using local products, showcasing innovation and creativity. 2. Rare ingredients like perlemoen and various seaweeds were a delight. Additionally I appreciate the effort that Wolfgat has for ingredients in their natural flavour spectrum. Areas for Improvement 1. Upon arrival, we weren't provided menus or asked about beverages. I had to summon a waiter, who seemed put off by my request. He seemed a bit disengaged and uninspired. 2. Dish explanations were lacking; I had to query multiple waiters for clarity. 3. Our 3.5-hour seating included lengthy intervals between courses. Shorter intervals would enhance the experience. 4. Although creative, most dishes lacked flavor and depth. Only two of the ten+ courses truly impressed. 5. Personally I also felt that the tip of 12.5% for the waiter on the total amount making it almost R400 should have been communicated beforehand. Personally do not like it. My enjoyment score unfortunately comes to a 6 out of 10 for enjoyment of the food and dining experience.

What a phenomenal restaurant! We were absolutely blown away by how delicious the food was. Every dish was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. No lights outside. Hard to see restaurant, even darker when you leave. Waitress was amazing. The chef not prepared to consider reasonable request (change in starter that is on the menu, was will to pay the R20 difference). Ordered Pork Belly starter - underwhelmed. Wow what a missed opportunity. Unfortunately that is why the restaurant was empty. Not worth or even close to the premium price charged. So much potential gone to waist.

What a fantastic place to eat. The sauces, the flavours, the meat. This restaurant seems to be a group of perfectionists who really put their hearts into every aspect of the meal and service. Highly recommend if you’re in Langebaan! Average meal price around R300-R350+ per main course. Different menu every night. Eaton Mess dessert was lovely too.

Absolutely exceptional… an accidental find as we went for beer at Black Eagle Brewery and we wanted food as well. This restaurant is right next door and straight away the chef explained the entire menu to us with such passion - I was so excited and the food that arrived was just beyond imagination. If you love BBQ, Smokey awesome food at its absolute best, You MUST eat here!!

We stopped by in the afternoon to ask about table availability for dinner, were told there were tables available, and we told the waitress we would return for dinner. At 7:15 pm, the restaurant was quiet with only 3 small tables occupied, yet the same waitress suddenly informed us they “don’t take walk-ins.” A very confusing and disappointing experience, especially since nothing was mentioned earlier. Why not take our booking when they had the chance? A real pity — we were looking forward to it, but left shaking our heads at what was the oddest restaurant experience ever, as if they didnt want the business - despite the chefs looking very bored outside smoking... strange...

This place had the best food I had ever tasted, from the starters, main, and dessert, it was all just spectacular, incomparable. They were open during loadshedding as well. It is a smaller restaurant so it may get a little full, but we had no problems with our visit. Had a nice atmosphere to it, with a fireplace to keep the place warm. Friendly and very helpful staff. Honestly, the best food in Langebaan can be found here. Please do yourself a favour and visit this place if you can, you won't regret it!
