We went as a family with two children for breakfast at Kloof Farm Stall. It is a lovely place to have breakfast or lunch, featuring an excellent outdoor wooden jungle gym and play area for kids with a track where they can ride on plastic motor bikes that are provided. There is ample seating both inside and outside, offering great views of the mountains in the background. The hot drinks and breakfast options are good, and the food itself was very tasty. They also have a menu specifically for kids.
Great place to chill and friendly staff. Pet and child friendly. Chris the owner is a great person to chat to and can recommend many lovely places to stay. Thank you Chris for sharing. Lovely play area!

Highly disappointed!... we wanted to pop in at the shop to buy some dry fruits and nuts. The 2 ladies working there couldn't care any less about us. Busy on their cellphones in a corner, no greeting on arrival or acknowledgement of customer's entrance (despite the fact that I greeted them). The shelves were empty... only almonds, cashew nuts and raisins (I understand the factory is closed until the 6th of Jan, but stock should have been provided, especially during peak season). Some sales were advertised, but I had to pay the full price, because apparently they were finished... I will NOT come back to this place!
Paul R — Google review
Great stop along the way with lovely outdoorseating under shade. The service was friendly and efficient, which we appreciate, since we had a long day ahead on the road. There is a gluten free option and a diverse menu.
Ali S — Google review
The staff is very nice and the shop is cute, clean and neat, however We ordered take away sandwiches for R75 each and was very disappointed about what we got for this price.
Alexandra A — Google review
Kloof Farmstall offers a charming outdoor dining experience, perfect for families. The large seating area under sprawling trees and the children’s play area create a welcoming atmosphere. I ordered the apple pie with cream, which was a generous portion but was a bit dry, though the flavor was pleasant. My cappuccino, however, was lackluster and average. My husband enjoyed his chocolate and caramel cake, finding it tasty even though he said it was quite average and he also found the cappuccino disappointing. The service was friendly. The farmstall itself is a highlight, featuring a variety of dried fruits, nuts, gifts, and crafts. Despite the average coffee and pie, the lovely setting and shopping options make it a nice spot to visit.

What a lovely place. The foos were very nice and the service was very good. They also have a nice play area for the kids. But to be honest, they must look to upgrade and repair some of the play areas.

Lovely spot, great play area for kids. Long waiting times for food but you are warned on the menus. Still we'll worth a visit.

Specialty Museums
The Montagu Museum, also known as the Old Mission Church, is a must-visit for those interested in delving into the town's vibrant history. It encompasses the Old Mission Church, Joubert House, and the KWV Building Complex. The museum showcases an array of historical artifacts such as pulpit Bibles, well-preserved wedding dresses, and original pulpit cloth.
Jason was very friendly , highly recommend if you enjoy learning about the history of a place. There are 2 museums in the same street , you buy a ticket and may use it for both. It's only R15 per adult. R5 for a kid. Cool right? I think so too. Enjoy your visit🥰.
Donique C — Google review
There are a lot of historical pieces, but it lacks context. It would be great if they put little stories behind all the pieces in the museum. The herb shop was very interesting and we came across a couple of old photos which was nice. The Rose Garden is alright.
Kerri R — Google review
Lovely little church and old house; friendly guide who told us so many interesting stories.
Emma R — Google review
Beautiful building. Some interesting pieces on display. A good deal as you get three museums for the price of one. The local medicine was interesting, with cures or rather treatments for everything from cancer to flatulence.

Very interesting and very old antiques in good condition, Including a super old wheelchair!

An intimate little museum, but packed with some interesting antiques. Lovely acoustics for music concerts, but seats roughly a maximum of 60 people. The herb shop connected to the museum has interesting remedies. There is a bathroom here.

Montagu Village Market

4.2
(126)
Market
Nestled in the charming town of Montagu, the Montagu Village Market is a delightful Saturday morning destination that truly captures the essence of local culture. Set against the backdrop of Euvrard Park, right across from the tourism bureau on Bath Street, this vibrant market runs from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and offers an array of goods that reflect both tradition and creativity.
Wandering through this charming little market takes me back to country villages in Europe. This is my second time to visit and yet somehow I still found some new things to enjoy. The products like those of Dandelion (rugs) and Moo 62 (small batch handcrafted yoghurt) are of high quality without breaking the bank. The elderly gentleman playing music, water bowls for dogs, benches under shady trees make this village market more than just another consumer hotspot.
Michelle A — Google review
A charming little market with a variety of stalls offering homemade foods to try. While some stalls feature more “junk” items, there are definitely some great homemade products to discover. The market is also dog-friendly, which is a nice added bonus. Worth a visit!
Bran W — Google review
It's a small but cute market. A bit of everything. Jewelry, art, clothing and crafts, fresh produce, preserves, and food stalls. When in Montagu on a Saturday pop in. Trading hours are from 8h30 to 12h30
Jurina V — Google review
Oh wow !! What a lovely country experience. We just walked around and looked at the beautiful stalls. Bought some things and had the most delicious samoosas. Everyone was super friendly. I can't wait to go back.
Dulcie M — Google review
Take a stroll through the lovely open air market, sit and enjoy a treat while listing to live music. Dog friendly.
Zeldi B — Google review
It opens on Saturday mornings and it's more of a craft exhibition than a market. Many different people show off their skills and you can treat yourself to some really unque peices. It's not too big, the variety is decent and beyond buying things, people are happy to answer questions and offer advice. There's a toilet on site and it's located under trees which cools you down when it gets hot (and it does). It's a bit difficult for wheelchair users to navigate and it closes a bit too early for tourists.
Duncan A — Google review
A small market but plenty of locally made produce such as jams, trinkets, food, preserves & clothing. Try to visit on a day that isn't wet & rainy as this will limit the number of traders on the day.
Gemini B — Google review
Was a very nice market. From what I was told there normally are more stalls present. The stalls which were present was great ranging Ng from jewellery, home crafts, food products, etc

Brewpub
Route 62 Brewing Company, founded in 2015, has quickly carved out a niche as a favorite among both locals and visitors in Montagu. This charming brewery is known for its refreshing beers, mouthwatering food options, and warm hospitality that create an inviting atmosphere. The recent addition of a beer garden enhances the experience, while the ever-evolving menu keeps things fresh and exciting for returning guests.
Definitely worth a stop by , we had the gin tasting and beer tasting , with jalapeno poppers and a meat 🥓 platter for 2. The food was very nice and not oily as one might expect ,very tasty. Their beer which is from a tap was very nice as well as the gin with very unique flavours, my favourite beer was R62 choc/hazelnut sounds sweet but it's not kind of like a Guinness but not as strong. The staff were very friendly and the prices were reasonably priced. I would definitely come back again and recommend
James R — Google review
We've had a good time at R62 Brewery Company. Great service, food is ok. I had the gin tasting, which was nice, although I would suggest they don't put too much tonic in each glass, because you don't get to taste the gin as much. My parents tried the beer tasting. They liked it, although both IPA beers were not available. I feel like they could have dropped the price a bit, since they tasted only 4 beers out of the 6 they should have...
Paul R — Google review
A Gem for Beer Lovers and Casual Diners! Their beers have improved significantly over the past couple of years, offering a fantastic variety to suit all tastes, from craft beer enthusiasts to lager-lovers. The menu covers all the pub-lunch essentials, including burgers, pizza, and chips— everything perfect for pairing with a cold one. Whether you're stopping by for a quick bite or spending the afternoon with friends over a few pints, this spot hits the mark. Great vibe, great brews, and an all-around awesome place to unwind!

Nice stop o the R62 for a quick beer tasting. They had 6 differemt beers on tap, ranging from IPA to Pilsner. Food menu was slightly more expensove tham we expected, but the food we did have was great.

Absolutely delicious beer! Loved the hazelnut beer. You taste and smell hazelnut. The pale ale is equally delicious. You are spoilt by the smell of pineapple. Highly recommended.

Route 62 Brewing Company is a must stop for beer fans, try their tasting tray and work through their well crafted craft beers. They were all winners and difficult to pick the best. The KANONKOP IPA packs a punch with the OLD FORT Larger being a real session beer. Settle in and watch some sport or snack on a pizza or one of the other items off their menu. The Pizza was great!
Daryn L — Google review
A must! Their chilli poppers, loaded fries and burgers are a winner! My favorite beer is the chocolate stout! It's like drinking Nutella! Well done Route 62 Brewing company. If you ever choose to bottle your range, I would like to be one of your first customers!

Decent selection of craft beers served deliciously cold. Staff were friendly and engaging, and the food was superb (the pizza was huge and the chicken salad was so tasty). Well priced and a nice location in the cute little town of Montagu. Would definitely recommend.

Nestled in the charming town of Montagu, often referred to as the Gateway to the Klein Karoo, Ye Olde Tavern stands out as a delightful family restaurant. This inviting eatery boasts an exceptional atmosphere complemented by friendly service and a diverse menu that caters to various tastes. Diners rave about their delectable dishes, from succulent lamb shanks with rich sauces to mouthwatering chicken livers and exquisite crème brûlée.
Amazing food, awesome atmosphere and great service. Thank you Elvin. The lamb shank sauce was 10 out of 10 lamb shank needed another 30 min in the oven. Creame brûlée, excellent. Chicken livers were amazing. Thank you Elvin for finding me a table since you were fully booked for Valentine’s Day. Exceptional service, GREAT RESTAURANT.

Nice little pizza place with inside and outside tables. The staff are friendly and helpful they even did take aways for us. We did wait a bit long for our pizza however to be fair it was 7 of them. They are easy to miss from the road so drive carefully and you should see them. There is a nice bar with some interesting art work around.

Not bad... Starter good , burger great! My chips were under done :( but im not a big chips eater anyway, so lucky for them I suppose. The kitchen staff was notified of my chip situation I believe :) Diana had the butter chicken (chicken overdone :(. ) but the flavour was great. My only chance at a chocolate dessert on the menu was not possible.... they did not have it in the kitchen only on the menu. HND/reviews

Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, located in Montagu and about a 3-hour drive from Cape Town, is an expansive 58,000-hectare rugged reserve nestled amidst the Anysberg and Warmwaterberg Mountains. It offers various accommodation options, with the Gondwana Family Lodge being ideal for a luxury family bush holiday. The reserve boasts unique indigenous flora and fauna, ancient rock art, and rare wildlife species.
This was one of the best experiences I’ve had. We saw so many animals and we got to get so close! The animals would walk right by and totally ignore the vehicle. Our guide was knowledgeable and had answers to all of our questions. The place is so big. They have trackers on some of the animals so you will see all of them. They don’t interfere with animals and they are great with the conservation. Definitely worth paying for. The rooms are so big and nice. There is a pool and spa. Drives are about 3 hours long. The workers are all so nice and care about your stay. All of the food is included and believe me you will never go hungry, the food is amazing. There are different lodges including a family lodge so you won’t have kids on your drives. Defiantly would tell everyone to go there, it’s amazing!
Annelise S — Google review
Sanbona was stunning and offered a five star safari experience. Located in the Little Karoo about three hours from Cape Town, the expedition was first-class. The transportation provided was a must for reducing stress and arriving on-time so we could experience the evening game drive and a sunset cocktail overlooking the hippos. The food and service were outstanding, and our game driver, Marco, was superb! We saw giraffes, elephants, rhinos, lions, cheetahs, hippos, zebras, and more. The early morning game drives were made comfortable with hot water bottles, coffee, and endless snacks. The picnic lunch overlooking the mountains and star-gazing Braai were also highlights of the trip. Sanbona was the perfect Safari option if you want to skip the trip to Kruger. Note: it is recommended to bring cash in Rand for tips. 350 Rand per couple per day for your safari guide and a daily staff tip at your discretion.

We had the most incredible time at Sanbona. It was the trip of a lifetime. Everything from the moment we arrived at the welcome lodge was absolutely perfect. Tilney Manor was so peaceful, comfortable and luxurious. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive and the service was impeccable. The food (and there was LOTS) was always delicious and varied. But nothing stands up to the incredible reserve. Our guide, Jordan, was such an expert and made our game drives truly unforgettable experiences. Every drive brought a new and wonderful experience - we saw giraffes, elephants, rhinos, lions, cheetah, baboons, zebra, and much more! The conservation work and research they're doing is amazing! Can't recommend it more highly and we desperately want to go back!

Thank you so much for this wonderful stay. I have never experienced a vacation like this before – right in the middle of nowhere, yet so perfect. From the warm welcome at the Main Gate to the refreshing towels upon arrival at the lodge, everything was flawless. The friendliness of the managers, our guide Marco who gave us unforgettable moments, and the attentiveness of all the staff such as Ricardo, Nelly, and many others made our stay truly special. Every wish was taken care of with such thoughtfulness. This is a holiday that will remain in our hearts forever.

Sanbona was the highlight of our trip! The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, the food was incredible, and the views were outstanding whether you were out on safari, sitting by the pool, or simply sitting in your room. Sanbona was the perfect ending to our honeymoon—peaceful, unforgettable, and absolutely magical. The team was so welcoming and friendly, we truly felt at home. They even provided halal food for us and made sure we were taken care of at every moment. Our guide Janri was amazing—professional, kind, and knowledgeable. Thanks to him, we encountered lots of wildlife, including the Big Five, and learned so much along the way. The lodge managers were just as warm and made every detail feel special. We’re leaving today, but a piece of our hearts is still at Sanbona. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a luxury, authentic safari experience.

Did not realise it was another 1.5 hrs to the lodge from the entrance , my bad. However, that 1.5 hrs met with several springboks and an elephant along the way, which was so memorable. The accommodation was perfect , the best part of it was our ranger Yandry, he is so experience and took us to see the big 5s and provided so much knowledge for us to appreciate the animals. The rest of the staff were amazing as well. Irshaad who took care of us when we were dining, Monica was a great ambassador for Sanbona and a gentleman I forgot his name who met us at departure . The immaculate service eg the welcome hot towels when we came back from drives, the delicious and high quality food and beverage. It’s great value for what you pay for. Highly recommend.

Found a little baby cockroach in our room the night before checkout. Then at the start of breakfast on our 2nd and last morning there, I was served some savouries/dessert type of tartlets on a little serving platter. 2 Cockroaches appeared on the platter from between the tartlets. 1 Jumped off the tray onto the table which I squashed with toilet paper and the other little one remained on the platter that I immediately took back to their kitchen. The 2 staff members were very apologetic and tried to make some excuses for why and how they could have ended up in the kitchen/food. We canceled the rest of the breakfast and checked out. Oh and there's no tv's or microwaves in the rooms which doesn't make sense since it's basically self catering but you can't even warm food that you've bought in your room. The 2 stars are for the beautiful grounds/rooms and 2 friendly staff members that dealt with us during our stay. We won't be back though. For the price you pay to stay there you should at least be served breakfast from a clean/cockroach free kitchen.

The Monte Vista Boutique Hotel is a sleek, sophisticated respite in the heart of Montagu. Fresh, artistic interiors, a fabulous pool, quaint garden design and the bedrooms, some with their own patio, inviting. I particularly enjoyed the clever use of design to create a spacious room, bathroom and wet room. Details of rusks, coffee machine, tea tray and toiletries much appreciated. Wonderful staff who were always on hand to advise, book restaurants, serve delicious breakfasts and make sure that our comfort was uppermost. Travelling solo, with a family or for a romantic getaway, Monte Vista is a gem.

She is knowledgeable, professional and efficient and always pleasant. Monte Vista is modern, new and the rooms are tastefully appointed and spotlessly clean. The pool area and grounds are immaculate and a great place to wind down at the end of your day for a sundowner. Highly recommended.

From the moment that we arrived at Monte Vista Boutique Hotel, we experienced professionalism, luxury and spoils. We must compliment Louis and his family with the amazing interior of the Hotel - modern with an African touch! Nestled in the heart of Montagu, Piccolo Tesoro captures the essence of a charming Italian village pizzeria. This cozy eatery invites you to indulge in their delectable thin-crust pizzas and daily pasta specials, all crafted with fresh ingredients that sing with flavor. Whether you choose to dine in and soak up the warm ambiance or opt for takeaway to enjoy by your braai, you're guaranteed a delightful experience.
We had a very nice meal here , it was pretty busy. We had a pizza 🍕 and salad 🥗 and a gin and tonic for a 🍹 The pizza 🍕 which is wood fire 🔥 was extremely nice and the toppings we good with an olive oil infused base. The salad was also very nice with peppadews. The staff were friendly and we had no issues.

Here's to the critical ones, this is a rural pizzeria, so menu, pricing and wine list is planned to ensure they survive, not cater to every whim of some of us city folk... On to my experience: A quaint spot with lovely ambiance. Attentive service from staff through owners. The pizzas were thin base and prepared in-house, like the tomato sauce. It is a pizzeria and thus that is what they pride themselves on. There are choise a plenty. There are always a pasta or three to choose from. A limited but adequate wine list with a small corkage on BYO. Worth a visit.

Great tasting traditional pizza crafted with care in a relaxed, cozy environment. We visited as part of a road trip, and happened to dine on our wedding anniversary night. The staff had decorated our table with lots of attention to detail to make it a magical evening. We felt very well taken care of, and can easily see why this is one of Montagu's favourite local restaurants. Would recommend booking in advance as the restaurant is both popular and intimate in size.

Lovely tiny Italian restaurant in Montagu, service was good, food was ok not up to Italian standard, easy parking outside, but we sat out in the cold the restaurant did not have space inside - would suggest to book before going
SAGIRL — Google review
Lovely atmosphere and charming local vibe. As a vegan, there were no options on the menu so I asked for a simple tomato sauce spaghetti. Unfortunately, the sauce tasted quite similar to Heinz soup - more like a canned tomato soup than a fresh, flavourful pasta sauce - so I was a little disappointed. I'd recommend sticking to the pizza, which looked better and seems to be their strength. It’s such a welcoming spot, and would love to return if there were some solid pasta options.

Friendly and very accomodating staff. We were allowed to have a drink before 17:00, which is the time that they open. Service was great. Pizza's were really good and very reasonably priced. Can really recommend Piccolo Tesoro. Will definitely support them again if we are in the area. Thank you

Restaurant
BluVines District is not just a restaurant, it's a community-driven establishment that donates part of its proceeds to the Rural Arts Development Foundation. The menu offers a variety of light bites, pasta, fish, and grills complemented by an impressive wine selection. The ambiance is described as royal and the decor, food, drinks, and staff are all highly praised.
5 Stars – A Fresh New Chapter! We had an exceptional dining experience under the new ownership. The restaurant has been given a clean and modern touch, both in ambiance and cuisine. Jean Michell, the new head chef, was professional and clearly passionate about his craft. The food was not only delicious but beautifully presented and incredibly fresh. Every dish reflected attention to detail and high-quality ingredients. Service was warm, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Highly recommended – we’ll definitely be back! Well worth the drive from Cape Town.

Blu Vines is currently undergoing a change of ownership, so we 'watch this space' in anticipation and look forward to a 'new look and feel' that makes the most of its stunning setting and views, and builds on its reputation of providing a fine dining culinary experience in an eclectic yet welcoming space. Having said that, our 2 gnocchi dishes were delicious and are a wonderful 'lighter' vegetarian lunch time option. Wishing the new owners all the best as they make this venture their own and as they integrate into our Montagu community.

My fiancé and I visited BluVines for lunch this past Saturday and we were really impressed. The restaurant itself is stunning, sitting outside on their lounges and looking at the Montagu mountains is beautiful. The staff are lovely and the service is great. Lastly and most importantly, the food is divine! We shared the platter for two and it was delicious! The Chef even came to check on us and see if we were enjoying our meal - I love that! You can sense the pride in this establishment and it deserves a visit!

After getting engaged in Montagu two years ago, we returned to celebrate our first wedding anniversary with dinner at BluVines District Restaurant — and it was an absolute pleasure from start to finish! The food, the setting, the atmosphere, and the service were all impeccable. This spot is a must-visit for anyone spending time in Montagu. A special thank-you to our wonderful waiter, Alphonso, whose warm hospitality and friendly service made the evening even more memorable.

Absolutely fantastic services rendered, by the owner, Carina, as well as her staff. We went to Montagu on a much needed break, location at random, as well as accommodation. A reference at the right time was spot on. What a wonderful experience and escape to such a delightful gem. It ticked all our wanted to have and wanted to do boxlist. We have been in Montagu a couple of times prior, but not to relax. Relaxing, free spirit and simply captivating surrounding in and out of Montagu. Exciting eat out opportunities, within budget and delectable. Thank you to the Info bureau for such a wide variety to be able to choose the best. Will definitely visit again.

Absolutely amazing! I would 100% recommend, my wife and I spent our honeymoon here and loved every moment. The staff and owner are very friendly, the stay is amazing and beautiful, it's close to everything you could want. If I could live it more than 5 stars, I would. It has great facilities and a lot of restaurants very near by.

Everything was just perfect from the start till the finish. Even during load-shedding there was enough light. Our host is so sweet and always willing to help. Thank you very much for that extra evening due to the rain. We will most definite come back, this is now our home in Montagu.

A group of ladies, we spent a lovely long weekend at Montagu Four Seasons and were very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of our accommodation. Most things we needed were provided. The rooms were exceptionally clean and neat, especially the shower which is usually a problem with most establishments. The bed linen was fresh and crisp. Carina was extremely helpful with advice and assistance. The premises are right in the centre of town and we felt safe. We will definitely stay there again. We were disappointed that the pool was not heated, though, and we hope that will be functioning next time we go to Montagu.

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Montagu Guano Cave Resort, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Montagu Nature Garden. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Montagu Guano Cave Resort

Camping cabin
Nestled just a short drive from town, Montagu Guano Cave Resort is a charming getaway that has quickly become one of the area's top attractions. Set on a picturesque farm, this modest resort features basic units and cozy cottages, making it an ideal spot for families seeking adventure and relaxation. Guests can enjoy an array of activities such as tractor rides to the fascinating guano cave—home to thousands of bats—and horse riding experiences.
We camped at Guano Cave Resort and enjoyed lunch at the restaurant, what an amazing place! The campsites are spacious, and the bathrooms were neat and clean even though the campsite was almost full. There was always hot water for showers, and we hardly ever had to wait to use the toilets or showers. Just a heads-up: we forgot our toilet paper, but it wasn’t a big problem since there’s a very convenient shop at the main building. It’s well stocked with essentials like wood, ice, soft drinks, and of course, toilet paper, among other necessities. The resort also has a warm-water pool, a normal swimming pool, and fun slides leading into the pools. There’s also a game area with pool tables and electric rides for the smaller children, a real hit for families. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and will definitely be visiting again. Highly recommended!
Laurentius B — Google review
Lovely camp site with lots to do for kids. Great water pressure. Nice restaurant on site. Friendly staff. The tractor ride to the caves was a bonus.
Bradley L — Google review
Had an absolute ball, lovely warm indoor pool, beautiful outside pool and slides! Food was very scrumptious and well priced. Cape sites very neat and some with lovely shade.
Felicia T — Google review
The location and facilities are superb—well-maintained and very neat. The staff are friendly and helpful, though somewhat inflexible due to strict adherence to rules. Accommodation is expensive, and it often feels like the resort is trying to maximize profit while offering minimal value. Campsites are pricey compared to other locations, and while the ablution facilities are clean, they do not provide toilet paper. Although it’s marketed as a family resort, a family of five (two adults and three teens under 18) is required to book two cottages or tents. This is due to a policy that limits occupancy to four adults per unit, even when units are available with two double bedrooms and an upper loft with two single beds. Despite charging peak-season rates during the winter school holidays, the resort closes its dining and other facilities by 19:00, citing low guest numbers—despite advertising a 21:00 closing time. Cave excursions are available in winter, with the main attraction being the bats. However, guests are not informed prior to purchasing tickets that the bats are hibernating during this time.
Corne N — Google review
Just check in for my honeymoon, but very disappointed. Check in time is 14:00. Get at the place need to wait while they move mattresses from mountain view nr 4 to nr 5. While the mattresses is taken from the one place to the other place it's dragging on the floor and we need to sleep on those sheets. I even took photos of this. I have 3 kids i need to entertain while waiting for my place to be finish. Its already 14:35 still not done with nr5. Drove all the way from Port Elizabeth had to pay almost R10 000 for this type of service..... I wont encourage any one to come to this place. To start my honeymoon like this, makes me super upset as a woman because this is suppose to be a time to be happy to enjoy time with my family. Now we rather have to sit and wait. Could only enter the cottage at 14:45.

We took the boys for a camping trip to get back to nature. This place is the perfect balance between camping in nature with the convenience of a restaurant and a shop for forgotten items. We loved our stay and enjoyed the facilities available. This place is must visit for campers in the Western Cape.

Joubert House, located on Long Street, is a national monument that offers a glimpse into life in Montagu during the 1850s. This museum showcases the living conditions of that era through its collection of artifacts and exhibits. Visitors can explore the old-world architecture, vintage toys, and even a 19th-century version of television. The house features peach pip floors in the kitchen and displays leather period shoes as well as handmade dolls with historically accurate clothing.
Fascinating little museum packed with all sorts, including some frighteningly creepy dolls. The garden was a highlight, and was larger than we expected, with good labelling of plants and herbs. Entrance fee was only 15ZAR so well worth a visit!

It's a wonderful place to take a walk or relax in a natural environment. The garden is delightful and there are a wide variety of local plants on show in a peaceful space. Not crowded at all, and it's easy to navigate the well-marked paths. Wheelchair users might have some difficulty but could get around with assistance. There is also a museum on site bt check whether it's open before you go.

We were advised by the tourist info desk to go at 10 so that we could also have the tea and cake served. Best R35 I have ever spent. Then we took a relaxed walk up to Bessieskop. The colorful flowers was beautiful to see. The walk was not difficult.

We planted a tree in remembrance of my wife, Sandy, late brother. Hugo, the curator of the nature garden took us around and showed us the tree. Looks absolutely fantastic and growing beautifully. Hugo is so passionate about these Gardens and Montagu as well. He is an absolute inspiration to the local area. Always makes you feel so welcome. Highly recommend a visit.

Rugged 1.7km hike to viewpoint in Bessiekop which is beautiful. Beautiful flora mainly cacti. In summer take water, hat and sunscreen there is no shade at all on the hike so go early morning whilst it is cooler. Beautiful lily pond in the garden.

Beautiful nature space to come relax a while or take a stroll through. Lots of birds to see and in spring time the flowers are in full bloom. R5 entry on an honour system when the gates are not manned. Could do with better maps or marking of the paths to guide you through the space.

Very dry and was not very welcoming. No path directions on entrance, had to figure out how to get to the offices (that was closed). No body at the entrance to welcome and explain where to go. The view is amazing, so beautiful. Need to go back to go do a proper hike.

The Rambling Rose in Montagu is a charming farmstall perfect for a romantic anniversary breakfast or lunch. Indulge in a variety of pastries, artisanal breads, homemade cakes, rusks, and jams while sipping on delicious coffee or local wine. The all-day breakfast and light lunch options are delightful. Visitors praise the excellent coffee and recommend trying the homemade reserves like Granny's Mustard. Although slightly pricey, it offers a great overall experience along Route 62.
Oh, The Rambling Rose! What a delightful gem nestled along scenic Route 62 in Montague! We were utterly charmed by its farm stall-type vibe from the moment we arrived—a perfect blend of rustic charm and cosy comfort. This isn't just a breakfast spot; it's an experience that awakens the senses and nourishes the soul. Let's talk about the breakfast – it is simply fantastic! Every dish was clearly prepared with love and the freshest ingredients. It was a true celebration of flavour, leaving us completely satisfied and ready to take on the day. We visited not knowing what to expect and hoping for a good cup of coffee. What we found was a delightful surprise. From the warm welcome and toasty fire to the friendly service and perfect coffee. We decided to stay for lunch. We had the most delicious homemade roasted tomato soup ever! We ended up buying some frozen soup to take with us, returning the next day for more coffee and some baked goodies. The pasteis de nata were incredible! Crispy, light and not too sweet. We also bought some giant meringues as gifts that surprisingly survived a few hundred kms trip home. Totally recommend this place!

We stopped by for coffees on Sunday and could see they were very busy, but nevertheless a very friendly server offered us seats in the garden, which was very pleasant. As the Croque Monsieur looked so good we decided to share one, and oh my goodness it was heaven! So much that we all returned back for Breakfast this morning. Our waiter James was of such a happy and delightful manner - if he could sell his enthusiasm it would make him a fortune!! The food was again all delicious and we loved the log stove taking the chill off the room. What a find, very special place and happy to give it five stars ✨ 🥰

The ancient structure's rooftop allows water to seep through, while the ground is composed of well-worn cemented peach seeds. Although it possesses a rustic quality, the establishment exudes an undeniable charm and personality from times past. The individuals there are amiable, and their coffee is unrivaled in Montagu. Once you find yourself settled on the aged couch in front of the crackling fireplace, you'll be reluctant to depart.
We visited The Orchard Coffee Shop at Die Boord for a relaxed morning bite, and it turned out to be a delightful experience. The vibe is calm and welcoming, with a charming farmstall feel and plenty of greenery around – perfect for a slow start to the day. We ordered their iced coffee with honey, which was a refreshing twist on a classic – subtly sweet, well-balanced, and just right for a warm morning. Alongside that, the roosterkoek breakfast was the real highlight. Freshly baked, warm, and slightly smoky from the grill, it came filled with generous, comforting ingredients that made each bite satisfying and full of flavour. Service was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall laid-back atmosphere. Whether you’re passing through or looking for a cozy spot in Stellenbosch, this place is worth a stop – especially if you’re in the mood for something local and delicious.

It was ok but could have been so much more. The setting is delightful, my scone and my wife's muffin were ok, but not the best that I have had- also they were served cold. Not really recommend this place, My drink looked funny so I checked the expiration date.. Best Before ..23-08-2018, I was here in October 2024. “Buffalo-wings” on the menu were lacking buffalo sauce, so just breaded wings. Jalapeño-poppers were delicious though.

Fabulous venue on a farm overlooking green, green lawns, sheep and cows in the not to far distance. Tranquil setting with choice of eating under the trees or on the verandah. This charming 9 hole course is an absolute must-play for anyone looking to play a round in the Boland area. While the course design is highly suited to the average golfer, it certainly rewards braver players who can hit a draw off the tee or thread a tee shot through tight gaps between trees. Both the staff and members are incredibly friendly and at R100 for a full round, the experience just can’t be matched. My only wish is that they sold Montagu Golf Club-branded golf balls so I could have bought one as a memento to remember my time there. Will definitely be back next time I’m in the area though!

The Badskloof Trail is a fantastic 5.1 km route that offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. It is an out-and-back path, allowing flexibility in turning back whenever desired. The hike, rated moderately challenging, provides ample solitude for one to relish the surroundings at their own pace. This trail boasts stunning vistas and is perfect for individuals seeking a shorter, flat terrain with breathtaking views.
Very beautiful. Me and my 67 year old mother was able to walk it. Highly recommended.

What a little gem. Did the river trail and it was a bit overgrown, but the lady did explain they have had some bad weather. Very scenic. Maps available at the office and a small fee payable.

Beautifull trail especially when it rains!!
Jeandre S — Google review
Check the weather before you try this one. It was raining the day before and it turned a greater part of the trail into a sticky, muddy marsh. I attempted it from both ends but could only get about 1km in before the trail was washed out. It is nice and cool in the ravine but come with waterproof boots because even with the sandbags they placed down, you will get muddy.

Parked and took a scramble up the rocky path to the gun turret on the top of Cogmanskloof. Our 3 year old managed up and down, which was great! Lively view from the top and quite clean, which was a pleasant surprise.
Cheryl T — Google review
Awesome short trail to do, especially for an unfit person like me. Pretty flat and brilliant views. We started at Avalon Springs and just about 100 metres in you get a sudden silence, so peaceful. If you're into rock climbing there is also a spot or 2 for climbing. Definitely going to do this trail again when I am back at Avalon springs, I might even take the steps up to the cave.
Keegan F — Google review
Such an amazing trail. We only hiked as far as Vlermuis Waterfall. The trail is easy enough for novices and pretty clearly marked. Vlermuis Waterfall was great... the kids loved it. Our return trip took us up over the kopple towards Cogmans Trail, but we headed down towards Piet-se-pad and back to the caravan park. We walked almost 10km... and our 10 to 14 year old kids were fine with it.
Neil J — Google review
Easy path with great views. Lots of noises coming out the reeds as you walk through. Went all the way till we saw the springs and turned around, took about an hour and twenty minutes at an easy pace.

Nature & Wildlife Areas
Leidam Bird Hide, located in Montagu, is a popular tourist spot known for its diverse bird population, including the endangered Blue Crane. The sanctuary offers bird-watching tours and provides a peaceful setting for visitors to observe over 200 bird species. With easily accessible wooden decks and friendly, knowledgeable locals, it's an ideal place to spend a few hours immersed in the beauty of nature.
This is such a simple and clever idea - a bird sanctuary always open to the public with full access to see the African Ibis without disturbing nests or habitat. It's conveniently located in Montagu and there is plenty of labelling of the birds on show. Easy to spend a few hours just watching them and strangers who stop by are firendly and knowledgeable about the birds and their behaviours. No toilets on site.

Beautiful and well kept small lake with lots of wildlife especially the birds very relaxing area . Definitely worth a stop by.

Plenty of Sacred African Ibeses and African Weavers, and that's about it

Neglected and looking dismal to say the least! Needs a good clean up and maintenance to be done to make it look pretty and respectable again. Only birds there were the Sacred Ibis- not much of a sight to gaze on!! Not fit to be a tourist attraction at the moment!!!!

Renowned designer Jacques Erasmus and his partner Hein Liebenberg have infused each room with artistic flair and attention to detail. The property offers comfortable amenities such as thick lime-plastered walls, fireplaces, underfloor heating, and homemade liqueurs from the courtyard orchard.
Jonkmanshof in Montagu is an absolutely amazing boutique hotel. The design is exceptional, blending farmhouse charm with a unique, stylish touch. The property features a beautiful citrus garden, a serene pool, and stunning surroundings that make for a peaceful retreat. The breakfast is wonderful, and the hospitality is warm and welcoming. A hidden gem with a special, one-of-a-kind design—highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable stay!

Exceptional in every respect. We absolutely loved staying here. The view from the bathroom window of the mountains above the town was exquisite, as were the interiors and the lovely hosts. We can’t wait to stay again.
Olly T — Google review
Wonderful place to stay in Montagu. Jokmanshof is the second oldest house in the town, built in the Cape Dutch style. The interior is full of interesting furniture (and succulents). Great breakfasts are cooked by Bryden. They will provide you with good ideas for hikes in the surrounding hills. Highly recommended.
Graham Z — Google review
We held our small wedding ceremony here and it could not have been more perfect. It's rare to find such an incredibly elegant and intimate venue in the Little Karoo! Hein and Brydon were amazing from start to finish in upscaling the event and adjusting to some last-minute needs. 11/10, you made our wedding perfect.
Eve F — Google review
We loved this stopover, quite the best place we have stayed in S Africa. An exquisite home in a Dutch/Victorian style beautifully furnished and restored. The hosts were quite charming and so helpful and the service and breakfast first class. We've travelled a bit but this is a gem!

Exceptional detailed service. Amazing breakfasts. The proprietors take a great deal of effort to give you lots of useful info. The decor is so very special and detailed. Lovely hikes in the surrounding mountains. Beautiful gardens to blow you away! One small thing - perhaps try and select a bedroom that is not street facing as you cannot leave the shutters and windows open on that side as you can from the other rooms and share the magnificent views that they have. Thanks so much to the amazing hosts!
Rae H — Google review
We travel a lot and must say that this was one of the most gorgeous and unique places we’ve ever stayed. Ode to great taste, wonderful design and high level of hospitality. Everything was perfectly curated - from interior/outdoor details to breakfast and dinner experience. The owners and Brydon were truly welcoming and went an extra mile to make our stay so enjoyable. It felt like staying at a good friends’ place, with the most beautiful memories. Thank you so much for inspiring us with your passion and showing us what a dream house looks like. Still amazed and can’t wait to come back, hopefully, soon!

We enjoyed our stay. We had a room outside in the garden, which made for a great experience. Have a drink in the bar and remember the Rolling Stones... choose a local gin. Dinner in The Grill Room is a great experience. Friendly and helpful service from the staff. We enjoyed the food options on the menu. We chose the Mimosa wine. It was a great choice. The room is well appointed with all amenities one would expect.

We only stayed one night but the service and detail by the staff was excellent. The rooms are old school decor as it is situated in an old building however they do have more modern rooms too on another block on site which are 2 bedrooms 2. We were very happy with our room . We definitely got an upgrade from the room we booked and it was a very nice surprise. The staff made our stay very nice and they were all very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast 🥞 was very good and the waitress was also extremely helpful and friendly. They had cheese , cold meats and your cooked breakfast 🥞 🍳 Next time we definitely want to come for dinner in the in house restaurant. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Well priced and great value for money. My apartment was very spacious and modern with lovely Mountain view’s. The staff is friendly very accommodating I received a late checkout on request. The lodge is centrally located and walking distance to shops and restaurants.

In my point of view totally over-rated lodge ! Though nowhere near fully booked, I must have gotten one of or maybe THE worst room in the lodge. Directly to the road with a door that did not lock properly, no windows except a few in the DOOR facing straight to the bed. Never again!

Beautiful restaurant with very helpful and pleasant staff. Food was absolutely outstanding - a special mention must go to the fillet and sirloin steaks plus the snails in mozzarella with garlic and olive oil.

We had a lovely two night stay at the Mimosa Lodge. We were pleasantly surprised to have been given an upgrade to bigger unit when we arrived. The breakfast was hearty and the venison stew we had for dinner was great. Overall, it was such a great stay. Thank you Mimosa

Absolutely fantastic to stay, staff is very friendly and go out of their way to accommodate you. Food is out of another world..... EXCELLENT!!!
Elmarie T — Google review
Not good value for money, for a restaurant that boasts good steaks, mine was appalling, small, tough and unappetising, and very expensive for what was presented, also all side dishes are extra…..The choice of wine is limited to the house wine which is exorbitantly expensive given Montagu is in the heart of a wine producing region. Left the restaurant feeling scammed. Leon’s on main is brilliant, great value and the most delicious food served.

We loved our 2 night stay at this lovely guest house. The apartment was spacious and comfortable. with every thing we needed for our self catering visit. The plunge pool was most welcome in the hot weather, and Christine went out of her way to make our stay most enjoyable. The guesthouse is close to restaurants, but far enough to be quiet. Thank you for a lovely stay. We will come again.

Service is great and friendly. Very neat. Peaceful. Close to all the little shops and cafes. Just some points to mention: * There was only enough milk for a cup of coffee for each of us when we arrived and not enough for the next morning, although, we just went to one of the local spots for breakfast, which was super close. * No water in the mini fridge. But I guess that is normal? * The room that has windows that look out towards the street does not have blockout blinds/curtains, so it's quite bright in the room during the night.

Lovely place! We stayed in the self-catering cottage and enjoyed it very much. Spacious, well-equipped and very neat. We felt right at home. Staff are awesome, we received easy and detailed check-in instructions. The guest lodge is centrally located and we could safely walk to town and explore. Definitely recommended when visiting the area!

Lovely little self catering place. Very well maintained little cottages. We stayed in a two roomed cottage. Really nice king size bed in one room and two single beds in the other room. Little galley kitchen with a fridge stove and microwave. Lots of cutlery plates and utensils for cooking and eating. Very clean. Super quiet place to stay and recharge.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Kookaroo and would highly recommend it. Lovely surroundings and Christene was so friendly and helpful and really went out of her way to make our stay memorable.

It's a lovely venue in what must surely be the best part of Montagu. Very quiet and relaxing, and while there were other people present, there was minimal disturbance. It was so refreshing to enter and find the key - the trust is amazing. Rooms re generous and there is a great lounging area as well as a full kitchen available for guests. IJn addition, there is also a microwave and fridge in the room which is super useful. The grounds are wonderful with many flowering plants giving a light atmosphere. I also commend the host for anticipating load shedding and ensuring that guests remain connected to the Wi-Fi and the bathroom stay on. Parking was available was free, which was appreciated. The pool was much smaller than anticipated and could have done with a cleaning especially because it was quite hot. There were some signs of a lack of maintenance in the shower as rust was visible. Wheelchair users might struggle as there are many steps in the venue.

We had a wonderful stay in one of the small cabins while climbing in Montagu for a week. The cabin had everything we needed and it was so nice to have the pool for an afternoon swim. David was very helpful with lots of info about the area whether it’s restaurants, hiking or climbing. The property is very peaceful and secure. It’s perfectly situated in a quiet area yet it’s a quick trip to town for groceries and restaurants. Highly recommended and I would definitely return.

Resort hotel
Montagu Springs is a renowned riverfront resort known for its warm, modern chalets and villas, as well as its inviting pools and conference facilities. The world-famous Montagu Springs, located just 3km from the earth's surface, was discovered in the 1700s and has since established the town as a health resort. The resort offers self-catering accommodation with 90 chalets that can each accommodate up to four guests.
Where do I begin with this review. It is a very sentimental one because this resort has become our annual April family getaway. This year we have extended the invitation to my family and it was just magical. To the staff of Montagu Springs, thank you for always going the extra mile and providing top class assistance and for your attentiveness. The stay is always homely. The facilities clean, the pool crystal clear and temperature perfect. The premises itself accessible and within reach of absolutely everything. The outdoor facilities including the astro turf (soccer) and the tennis courts are superb and fun was had. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You have become our annual destination, that’s for sure. With a bit of sun, fun and hot springs. I wouldn’t want it any other way! Thank you so so much!

The mobile homes we stayed in were extremely dated and tired. In winter, the bedrooms will get very cold as the heater is only in the central living room. On the plus side, the cleaning staff do an excellent job of preparing the accommodation for you and the staff are very friendly. There is a heated outdoor pool on site but it is also worth paying the day visitor's fee to use the facilities at the adjacent Avalon Springs.

Hi, We booked in at Montagu Springs for my daughter's birthday. Upon arrival we were informed that the heaters for the hot pool are broken, hence the water is cold. If we wanted access to the heated pool at Avalon Spring, we have to pay an additional R150 pppd. Had we been informed of this before arrival we would have requested a refund and gone to a different facility instead. The unit we were in was worn. The floor had tape to keep the wooden floors in place, the walls were peeling. When using the hot water the geyser makes so much noise. Will not go back there or recommend the facility.

What exceptional service we received last night. The eisbein, steak, and prawn cocktail were out of this world. I will make sure I am back every time we visit Montague just for that truly crispy eisbein. The chef also came out to chat. Well done to you all....

We stopped by for dinner. The setting was great. Friendly host and welcoming. The seafood potjie was delicious. In spite of the notice board at the entrance and the manager telling us that we get 30% off for drinks in happy hour, we had to pay the full amount because the "chef said that there is no happy hour from 1st December...they should have taken the notice away" and "I thought the special was still on but the chef said no" (manager).

Lovely Victorian era hotel, upgraded to give it a modern feel, yet retains the old Victorian era furnishings. The staff were incredible, and really make you feel like family. Wow Wee! What an AWESOME experience!! Highly Recommended! It was quite by chance that we met Marcelle while leaving our hotel. The owner of the hotel introduced us to her while she was dropping off pamphlets for her cycling tours. Upon chatting to her, we were very keen on going on her tour but a bit apprehensive since we have a 4-year-old and we weren't quite sure how she would manage. Marcelle said she would customize the tour accordingly and also said that she had a child seat that my daughter could use. BONUS! After packing up our car, we met up with Marcelle at her shop, and off we went. As mentioned above, what an Experience. She showed and explained all the different points of interest to us as well as gave some additional local "Scoop". Hehe! If it wasn't for this tour, our visit to Montagu wouldn't have been quite as memorable. That evening while chatting to my brother-in-law, I told him the Montagu would have been very similar to all the other small towns in SA however... when you take the time to "scratch" a bit, it becomes something totally extraordinary. Thank you Marcelle for such a FANTASTIC tour and for making Montagu extra special for my family and I.

We had the pleasure of exploring Montagu on bicycles from Flying feet South Africa. We booked online and met with Marchelle on the day of the tour, she such a lovely and friendly person. She explained everything in detail, gave us tips and recommended some areas and restaurants to visit around the town. Two hours was not enough, wish we had more time to explore the area. Montagu is a beautiful town with a rich history. Overall experience was excellent. Highly Recommended!

What a wonderful experience to tour the town with Flying Fleet. Marchelle is so knowledgeable and passionate about this beautiful historical town. We enjoyed every minute of our tour and in the words of our tween and teenager - "it was SO MUCH fun!". We highly recommend this activity. It was the highlight of our trip.
Lizette B — Google review
Terrible experience! 0/10 recommendation. After having a lovely time doing the garden route I sadly chose to do end of with marcelles tour in Montagu. Unfortunately Marcelle does not know how to accommodate a racially diverse tour group. She made the tour a racial/political tour and made me feel very uncomfortable as a black person with her racist comments. Don’t go for this tour. It’s terrible and will leave a bad feeling after attending her tour.
Fari L — Google review
Montagu is a beautiful, quaint, historically rich town nestled in the Mountains and what better way to see it than on a vintage bicycle. Marchelle is friendly, informative and knows the history of the town so well. We only found out after our cycle tour they offer other gyided tours around the town as well. I would highly recommended.

The safari also includes visits to well-regarded wineries such as Bon Courage, Silverthorn, Viljoensdrift, and Zandvliet.
We had a lovely experience doing the wine tour from Montagu! As we were the only ones on the bus from Montagu that day, we got the VIP treatment from Gert, our tour guide, who collected us from the place we were staying at on time, and made provision for us to make a quick stop at Cogmanskloof Pass to take some photos! We went to three wine farms; he accommodated us whilst still having another tour group at the same time, and was always punctual for our pickups to the next wine estate. He also made sure to introduce us to the staff at each wine estate, and we felt very looked after. Michelle and Mariaan were both very helpful as well, arranging our tour ahead of time and giving us suggestions on places to stay and visit whilst in Montagu. The bottle and blend at Excelsior Wine estate was one of the highlights of the trip, and it was great to make our own bottle of wine to take back with us! Van Loveren will always hold a special place in our hearts, and the boat trip at Viljoensdrift was a lovely addition. If you live within the town of Montagu, you can arrange to be collected and dropped off at the place you stay at, which gave us peace of mind knowing we could enjoy ourselves responsibly and safely. We can definitely recommend Wine Valley Safari!

We had a great day on this tour of 3 estates. Gert picked us up in the zebra bus, was a comfortable ride from Montagu to the estates. Gert was on time to pick us up after each event. The highlight in my mind was Excelsior wine estates where you get to blend your very own bottle of wine, cork it your self, seal the bottle and print yourself a label for it. Thr boat trip at viljoensdrift was also very nice. Take a bottle of wine, cheese and bread from the on-site shop and they give you a basket and glasses to take on the boat, enjoy. I highly recommend this wine safari.

We had a great day visiting various wine farms on the wine safari bus. Our guide, Gert, was engaging and gave good recommendations as to where to visit and what to try. We visited 5 wine farms in total. Our favourite was Bon Courage (lovely setting, great wines and pairings. Not to be missed) The tour is good value (250 ZAR per person) and is a great way of seeing some of the many wine farms around Robertson. Booking was easy, and everything ran smoothly.

Had the best time! The tour guide was so nice and walked us to each entrance and explained everything. Didn't have to worry about anything. Was so nice!

As a Paarl local, I didn’t expect to be blown away by a wine tour—but Wine Valley Safari’s Golden Mile Deluxe was something else. I took six friends for a day in Robertson, and Gert made it feel like a road trip with an old friend—fun, relaxed, and full of laughs. The open-air ride, stunning views, and great wine stops were perfectly planned. The wine blending was a hit, and the whole day ran like clockwork. Gert and the team went the extra mile to keep us comfortable and together—such a treat. We’re already talking about the next one!

Execellent service. We visited 3 wine farms on the lovely Robertson/Bonnievale Route. Will definitely recommend Wine Valley Safari. So much fun!

I highly recommend this business. Their customer service is excellent. Our company used the shuttle service from Cape Town airport to Montagu. Henry our driver was a good and safe driver. We highly recommend their services to any orgnisation.
Pamela S — Google review
What an underwhelming experience. The price you pay for the Grande Delux doesn't match what you get from the tour. The first stop was at Bon Courage, the guy pouring our wines was disorganised and lacked Knowledge of the wines and the wine farm. The second, and shortest stop was Van Lovren. I wish we had stayed here longer. Beautiful farm and friendly staff. The last stop was the boat cruise. What an anticlimax. Everything from the wine tasting to the boat cruise was just meh...under par, not worth a single cent. Would I do this again? Definitely not. Rather get a designated driver and do your own tour.

Hiking area
The Cogmanskloof Trail is a 12.6-km loop that offers a moderately challenging yet rewarding hiking experience, perfect for nature enthusiasts. This serene route provides solitude and stunning views that change with the seasons, making it an ideal choice for a peaceful day out in nature.
I would definitely not recommend going alone. There are numerous places to get lost or injured. There are several trails, and you must carefully follow the directions. There are many different types of terrain—rocky, mud, and very steep parts (where you have to hold on to a metal part on the ledge). There are also baboons in some areas, and at the end, we encountered a large troup and were followed for a while. That being said, it is a very rewarding hike with breathtaking views, especially on a clowdy day when the vibes are ideal. We did the silverstream trail which led to a beautiful waterfall. Will definitely go back to do the blue point trail. Also note that there are no working bathrooms available

One of my favorite hiking spots. Pristine mountain reserve with abundant water in the rivers. Friendly and safe with hikes of 4 to 8 hours depending on your fitness. Suggest that you take a guide unless you are an experienced hiker.

Was really challenging and fun at the same time ..the views from on top of the mountains is breath taking. Nice place to just spend some time away from your everyday routine

While the pedestrian gate is locked and the road gate is closed (with a "no entrance" sign), you can walk through the latter to enter the reserve. There are two shallow fords to cross so waterproof footwear recommended!

Safe but no real directions. Was a bit confusing

Nice and easy hike. Beautiful eucalyptus trees and pretty fall. All along the last part you can refresh your self with the river weather. We really enjoyed the walk. Entrance : R 57 / p for the day.

The Montagu Co-operative Wine cellar Limited is located on Route 62, at the beginning of the Little Karoo, approximately 200 kilometers away from Cape Town. The cellar underwent rapid expansion and in 1948, it was decided to acquire the property (still in use) under the leadership of Mr. KW Carl du Toit. With guidance from wine pioneers Dr. Costa and Mr. Moni, the cellar was constructed, and wine production commenced at that time.
Fantastic service from brilliant woman at the tasting/sales area. She is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, engaging and lovely. The wine was excellent too at fantastic prices

This is the friendly cellar. The best Muscadel. We order the muscadel for our church for mass. Dawid Kramer sang a song: Montagu Muskadel. If you taste it you will love it

Hotel in Montagu. Been there many times, pet friendly rooms, centrally situated. The best thing about this hotel is the staff. Long standing and loyal. I do miss the old ambience when Gert was in charge. However the change is good. The gardens are beautiful. A spa on the premises, The breakfast served is of the highest standard. Well worth a visit.

Adri and her team took real good care of our guests. The lunch was a most delicious home cooked meal... compliments to the chef. We will be back!!

The room was and smelled old and the ceiling in bathroom needed paint, the bathroom shower door couldn’t close so the whole bathroom was wet after showering. The light switches were everywhere, and the electrical outlets were on the other side of the room. The food was ok nothing special, breakfast was better, lots of choices and very friendly waitresses and waiters. The WiFi connection was bad, in the room I had 1 or 2 lines so nothing to send a message on. It was nice we had a little garden, and the AC was the best I’ve ever had in a while. I couldn’t open any windows because there are lizards everywhere crawling inside the windows 🫣

We stayed one night in the middle of the week. Highly recommended. Everything was perfect and its obvious that everyone working there, looking after guests and hotel its self are highly motivated, enthusiastic and a credit to the owners/management . A place to be proud of. Thanks very much.

What a wonderful and peaceful hotel! There’s plenty to do, and it’s wheelchair-friendly too. We had a very pleasant stay. The cozy fireplace was already burning—perfectly ready for winter. Highly recommended!

Even in winter a beautiful spot. A small authentic town surrounds the hotel and you can walk and explore. The rooms are comfortable and the restaurant menus offer a variety from beer battered Hake to Jaffels. For a cosy day staying inside I recommend the Spa. A mineral spa bath, massages and beauty treatments to pamper you.

This is a very beautiful and clean hotel. It is old-style, vintage and got the best antique furniture. There is a beautiful pool at the back. The rooms are spacious and have all necessities such as fridge, aircon, TV, kitchenette, spacious bathrooms. The beds are big and comfortable. Downstairs there are travel agents where you can book your excursions. You can also hire bicycles. I enjoyed my stay.

We were a party of 6. Martin the owner organised us a private section of the restaurant. We enquired as to the specialties and was told that the Ribs and Eisbien were favourites. Martin also advised that the Eisbien would take extra prep time. I personally have eaten in many restaurants, and have had many Eisbiens. It was served by the chef, and I can say that it was the best Eisbien I have ever eaten. The outside was rendered down perfectly and was crispy and not too fatty, the meat was tender, flavoursome and falling off the bone. On top of it all, the meal was very good value for money. Well done to Martin and his team.

Took an hour for the food to be ready but we weren’t surprised because it’s a pub and we didn’t expect much. The pasta tasted like garlic, just garlic. The pizza wasn’t that great. The salad and burger were good. Nice service and vibe in general.

Very warm and friendly service. We went for a meal at around 3pm and it wasnt a problem for the chef. The food was perfectly prepared and served. Definitely recommend the spare ribs.

We didn't eat here because we were driving through and just wanted to catch up on old friends who used to own this pub years ago. Had some beers and chatted about the neighborhood and old friends. Service was great and the atmosphere was easy and pleasant. Thank you guys. 😊

Why can't staff be in an hour before. That way, everyone is happy when it's actually opening hours, after 9 am and customers are being told to wait 5 more minutes because they first want to mop floors? No way. When the doors says 9am it should be 9 am. Not the first time this happens.
