Ashburton Domain is a 37-hectare park that offers a variety of activities for visitors. The large playground is a favorite among kids, but there's more to explore in the domain. Families can enjoy the fitness track, feed ducks at the lake, and discover birds in the aviary. There are also opportunities for picnics and cycling on the trails through the gardens.
We stopped here on our way back from Fairlie to Christchurch. The area has some good walking trails and a lake with spectacular views of the lush greenery. The flowers are maintained really well

The spring blossoms were beautiful as were the international themed trees.

Always a pleasure to visit. Clean, beautiful and plenty of bird life
Loreen J — Google review
Beautiful domain. Great parks for kids of all ages and a fun flying fox. Exercise/workout stations dotted around the play area for adults to use. Lovely plantings and a wonderful duck pond. Great place for a picnic and a place for the children (and adults) to get some fresh air and exercise. Toilets were clean and easily located once in the domain.
Bev K — Google review
All the event was really good .The lighting was magical . Management was good they provide toilets, rubies bins , Ambulance and food trucks. Free Entry but you need to buy ticket for rides.
Reet K — Google review
Parklike surrounds, kids play area, small lakes. Trees were beautiful as still lots of autumn colour in late May but very little flower colour. Garden beds only recently replanted for winter. One set of toilets by main carpark. A nice stroll through the trees but not a lot of anything else (fernery, shadehouse, tropical house etc) to keep you there longer, unlike public gardens elsewhere.
Wyldecreations — Google review
Beautiful park lake domain with so much to see and do. Some mighty grand old native trees amongst the many huge pine and other species. A Great family friendly place to Arctic the legs or spend the day. Dogs on leads permitted. Playground BBQ area, plenty of great picnic areas Rose Gardens and so much more

Cafe
Triangle Espresso is a fantastic coffee spot in Ashburton serving up delicious cafe food and Allpress coffee. The atmosphere is stylish and welcoming, and the staff are always on hand to provide excellent customer service. The coffee is huge, and the menu looks great too - perfect for grabbing a quick bite with friends. Highly recommend!
We stopped for coffee after driving down from Christchurch. The coffee was great (Allpress), flavoursome and hot, and the cheese scone was really nice too (we shared). The cafe is modern and clean and the food cabinet looked amazing! Not surprised to see the awards they received on display.

The food is so good and beautiful!! The service is great! I love the animals being the table number!!

My favourite spot in Ashburton! The coffee is consistently excellent, and the food is always fresh and full of flavour. The staff are friendly, attentive, and make you feel genuinely welcome every time. You can tell they care about the details — everything from the presentation to the atmosphere feels thoughtful and relaxed. It’s the kind of place you look forward to coming back to.

Recommended by a local realtor. Went for coffee and brunch. All I can say is wow! The staff are super friendly. Service was quick and on point. Had an Americano and husband had a cappuccino. Full of flavour. Allpress coffee is just the best. I had a salmon hash cake and hubby the blt salad. Both extremely delicious and well presented. Beautiful food by beautiful people.
Deon M — Google review
I revisited this place because of the amazing coffee but this time was a slightly disappointing experience. Our keep cup size is kind of between regular and large. I mentioned this at the till and ordered regular and added that if they don’t want it, they don’t have to fill it up. Barista girl must’ve heard this and decided that it was okay to fill only the half of the cup for whatever reason. We had to ask her to pour a little more milk if she has any left, which she added a splash more of. As a barista myself, I don’t understand this stinginess, you shouldn’t reuse that milk anyway. Apart from this, I believe their takeaway cups are a little on the smaller size too. Overall, a barista to barista; I appreciate your coffee, but not your service.

A treasure find on our trip from Christchurch to Lake Tekapo. Amazing coffee and melting moment (biscuit). Hubby said best coffee he’s had in a long time! Vibrant cafe with beautiful artwork. We teamed our stop with a trip to the Art Gallery which was equally enjoyable!

I came here for a coffee and stayed for the cheese puff/scone and the chicken pesto roll from the cabinet. It was so light and tasty. My partner had the sausage roll with tomato relish and he said it was fantastic too. Coffee was great, nice and hot. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and I loved the banter between the staff and good feel of the place, although I came close to the end of the day. Will definitely be back.

I've been meaning to come here for yonks. Finally did today for a light lunch, had the salmon roulade, you should definitely try it! Coffee is great, there's a decent menu as well as good selection in the cabinet and I think I saw ice cream/Gelato too! There are heaps fot goodies to buy, oils, salt, chopping boards, loads of gifts in the store as well. The staff were friendly and efficient and I'll definitely be going back!

I've been looking on Facebook and seen heaps of reviews from other people. And thought it would be nice to take our friends all the way down from Invercargill out for brunch. The service was adequate but when the standard of food and drinks combined, very much let down.
Nicola S — Google review
Wow, really rude service. Ordered two bagels, one with pesto, one with preserves. Cream cheese barely covered one side of one bagel. Asked waitress for more and she asked if I was going to pay for extra. Said no as felt cream cheese should cover both sides, a lot of huffing from her side and repeated again I'd have to pay and then said she'd ask the chef. Came back with an extra teaspoon sized portion of cream cheese. Added pix so you can see my generous serve... Thanks! Went nicely with the lukewarm coffee! Shame as ate here 18 months ago and was excellent.
Denise D — Google review
Lovely atmosphere, staff were polite, food looked great in the cabinet however my food wasn’t heated through and my egg wasn’t cooked as I asked. Service would have been excellent had someone taken the time to come ask if we were happy with our meal. I did love the interior decor.
H F — Google review
Bacon egg pie was great, the hot chocolate was a bit simple, but it still tasted good
Juan P — Google review
This place is good, mainly for the atmosphere but they’re also fairly nice just a tad expensive for what you get. My partner loved his steak and pepper pie but it did set him back 11 dollars. His iced americano was not far off that. But it was lovely to sit there and chat because it had good seating and ambience to prevent sound travel.
Rebecca — Google review
Service was not great and there weren’t any vegan options in the prepared food except a salad that looked unappetizing.

Formosa Modern Asian Cuisine in Ashburton offers a diverse menu with a range of dishes at affordable prices. Whether you're craving Indian cuisine or looking for vegetarian-friendly options, Formosa Modern Asian Cuisine has something to offer for everyone.
Wonderful restaurant with a variety of different Asian styles. Delicious food although not spicy at all despite having ‘spicy’ in the name of the dish, however I understand they must cater to a western audience. I loved it nonetheless. The desserts are next level, most likely top 5 in New Zealand easily. Service was exceptional, prices are fair. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Marcus — Google review
Lots of options that can be made vegan! The steamed dumplings were delicious! The decor is nice and service was prompt and nice. The tofu was quite rubbery and over-fried. I had to use a steak knife to cut the tofu and as I cut it oil oozed out. Maybe in smaller chunks the tofu would be easier to eat. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend any dishes with that kind of tofu if its cooked that way. The sweet and sour tofu was too sweet.
Jan — Google review
Stopped by Ashburton during our road trip and came here for a quick Asian food fix, it was so satisfying! The beef noodles were delicious and full of flavour, definitely hit the spot. The atmosphere was comfortable, with high ceilings, plenty of space, and clean toilets. Highly recommend checking this place out if you’re passing through Ashburton!

The Taiwanese beef noodles is so authentic. The beef is so tender. The crispy red pork belly, honey pork and the Formosa Hakka stir fry taste good. The service is fast and the place has a cozy atmosphere. We will definitely come back to this place whenever we are in Ashburton

The environment is great! And the service is good! Just after a couple of minutes, the food arrived, which was so surprised to us, it’s quite quick! The Hakka stir fry and Lu Wei is just so so. The Crispy pork belly is so yummy!

The EA Networks Centre, set to open next year, is anticipated to be a massive recreational facility. In the meantime, visitors can enjoy Lake Hood, featuring 7km of shoreline and amenities such as a water-ski tournament park and an international class rowing course. The center boasts modern and tidy facilities including a pool with various swimming areas, a gym, and a café. While some visitors appreciate the cleanliness and friendly staff, others note limitations for children in certain areas.
There are always pro's and con's for any facility depending on what your needs are. Sunday mornings for physio exercise is awesome for me but after work not so much. It would be nice to have the occasional adults only time with NO children at all but as above, you can't please everyone. We pick our times and hope for the best but for a smallish town, we should be proud of it and maybe some day there will be a move for an outdoor area.
Brenda F — Google review
Okay facility. As others have said it is too hot in summer. Would have been better with outdoor pool and hydroslide so there’s something for older kids to do or just anyone over 6. Not much indoor stuff to do for kids in Ashburton. Has a lot of potential to be made better.
KirstyGilbert — Google review
Great facility. Glad they have fixed the wringer for togs. Wish the aquasize pool was just for exercising. Like the rolleston pool. Nice friendly staff. Always helpful.
Barb A — Google review
Watching netball, the courts are pretty good. The pools are good, shame about the lack of hydroslides. Parking is brilliant and abundant. Sad the name does not let people know what the place is. A simple word like AQUATIC would make all the difference.
Anita M — Google review
Love coming here, as it is very clean and the staff are always friendly. The only downside is that the children are not allowed in the spa, and the kid's area is really aimed towards quite little children. My two still really enjoyed all the equipment along the side that they could bring into the big pool, but my six-year-old did struggle... Was a little bit too old for the kid's area, too small for a big pool. I did like that there wasn't a multitude of swimming lessons on when we went light. There has been when we've tried to go 2 other places.
Emma S — Google review
I go swimming here every day when i can, the staff are always super friendly. The one thing though is that when the sun in shining through the big glass windows it can be painful for the eyes but it's great here otherwise. It has a Gym, Cafe, Kids pools, wave pool, spa, sauna , a warm pool to hang out or aquasize in otherwise a big length pool if you want to do proper lengths. I love coming here when I can
Chloe J — Google review
My wife and I just had a walk through the place the other day. It is really modern and tidy. It would be a great place to take the kids if you are looking for something to do on a Saturday afternoon. The pool looks very nice and there are several different areas for swimming. There is also a little cafe to the right as you are walking into the building. To the left, there is a gym as well. If you haven't been here, I would say it's worth it to go explore this cool place.

Great set up for swim lessons and kids.Loved the Lazy River. Lanes for the lap swimmers too. Facility cleaners, go easy on the hose pipes in the disabled toilet. Every thing soaked including toilet paper which was rendered useless. Thanks

Once I found the place it was very nice food. I had mild butter chicken & garlic Naam bread. For my taste I would have liked a bit more garlic in it. I had the meal at lunchtime which was very reasonable at $15 & $1,50 for the garlic Naam bread which I was happy to pay for

Perfectly balanced flavors, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. It's a must-try for anyone visiting Indian Minar. Hands down, some of the best food I've had recently! A great evening! Fabulous food and a great vibe. Mia our lovely waitress greeted us with smiles, was helpful and delivered our food quickly. The guacamole was made freshly at our table by a very competent young man.

Was very disappointed with not only the food but the service. Staff did not bother to tell us that they had no duty manager on that day so no alcohol could be served we only found out after ordering meals then going to bar to order drinks. Would not bother visiting again as we have had better Indian food elsewhere.

The food was beautiful and delicious. We ordered prawn malabari, butter chicken, lamb saagwala and cheese and garlic naan bread. The meat was super tender, the prawns cooked to perfection and super flavourful. We were served by a lovely gentleman who also took the time and care to check in asking how our meal was and if we needed anything else. The restaurant was clean, warm and cosy. Highly recommend and will definitely visit here again next time we are down from Auckland. Thank you for your service.

Wow, what a place! Fitted us in for dinner on a Friday night when they already advertised booked out. When out of their way to accommodate our 2 children and help keep them happy. The food was amazing! The level of presentation was insane. Dessert was a work of art and a flavour experience! Don't forget the amazing cocktails to go with it! All for a very reasonable price considering the high quality of everything, and very quick serving it all. One of our best restaurant experiences in a long time. Keep it up!

What a surprising find! We stopped for a toilet stop, couldn't find the toilets, so we asked if we could borrow theirs 👍 , when we entered the food was stunning. It may appear as a cocktail bar, but it is the home of yummy dishes. We started with savoury, crafted chicken, pork, tuna, and these were so delicious, we went for seconds. The chef was preparing fresh treats and it was a treat to see him create the dishes with such skill. My wife moved on to sweet treats, and loved them. What a place, a great tribute to the chef and the town of Ashburton

Everything is appealing to the eye and tastes that live you wanting more. We live in Christchurch and tell everyone about this golden gem. Keep up the great work. This place is a must try.

I've walked past before and it is always bustling but hadn't popped in. I tried Rice Porridge and Matcha Latte. It was a cold miserable day and the porridge was warm and had lots of flavour. Personally I found it more liquid than I like in Rice porridge and I'd have liked some more chilli oil but the flavour was nice. Inside the seating is very interesting and a nice place to visit. Would be interested in trying the sushi in the future.

Wow – what a gorgeous find on a day trip through Ashburton! The pink entrance caught our eye right away – intriguing and inviting with the vibe of a cocktail and dessert bar. Stepping inside, I was instantly drawn to the bougie rich blue velvet stools and the lush greenery from the indoor plants – such a perfect aesthetic. The display cabinet was a showstopper, filled with delicate and intricate sushi options, each one looking like a piece of art. But it was the dessert cabinet that truly lit up my face – beautifully crafted treats, each telling its own story. We were warmly greeted by a staff member who handled our order quickly and kindly. The coffee was absolutely on point – a real credit to the barista. The sushi we tried was fresh, flavourful, and thoughtfully presented. I chose the Red Apple (white chocolate mousse with green apple filling) – and wow, it truly felt like biting into Snow White’s apple in a fairy tale. We’ll definitely be back. A unique and memorable spot worth discovering!

Dined here last night for dinner and couldn't have been happier. Wife has the Fish of the Day while I opted for the Chicken Schnitzel. Service - Prompt, courteous & attentive without being overbearing. Food - Exceeded our expectations. Piping hot, fresh, nicely presented & perfect portion size. Excellent value for money. Atmosphere - Clean, modern & well laid out. Place was quite busy which is generally a pretty good sign. Left very satisfied and would certainly return if we're back in Ashburton.

Went there for the first time to have a dinner, we loved the foods there, the chicken karage, takoyaki and sushi platter for 2 are 100%!! Ooh not forgetting to mention the udon noodles was my husband’s favourite. The staffs are amazing and best service. We are definitely gonna come back 🤤

We think the buffet is quite pricey considered the options given, flavour is alright. Main menu is much attracting with value of money. Will be back again but not for buffet. Appreciate their gesture to serve extra side dish when there's limited options for vegetarian on the buffet dishes, friendly service.

If the lights aren’t on, you can’t tell if it’s open from outside. Lots of choices on the sushi menu and it tastes good. Not sure about the fried udon noodles although it’s great but it’s not on the menu.

Really nice fine Asian dining place. They serve a good combination of Indian and Japanese food. Highly recommended, and would visit again.
