The Giant Tingle Tree is a must-see attraction located in the Walpole-Nornalup National Park, known for its unspoiled natural beauty. This 400-year-old red tingle tree is a magnificent sight to behold, with an 800m circular trail leading visitors from the car park to this ancient marvel. The park is celebrated for its rare tingle and karri trees, making it a paradise for nature enthusiasts.
This tree is amazing. So huge. Could not imagine what it would have looked like before it was burnt and in earlier years. Great walk to see it too. The whole area is so beautiful. Highly recommend a visit to this amazing place. And please treat it with respect, don't throw your rubbish around.

A lovely walk through giant forest trees on an even pathway. Some parts sealed, some soft understorey and some gravel. Well worth the drive as this is spectacular too through beautiful Aussie bush.
Lois C — Google review
If you’ve never seen a tingle tree, this towering old Giant is the perfect introduction. Ancient and scarred from fires to the point of being hollowed out, it’s to be loved, respected, protected, and awed by like a great-grandmother, the matriarch and heartbeat of the forest. There is parking for several cars, and the smooth, easy path leads to the Giant in just a couple of minutes. It’s only 6.7 km east of Albany, accessible by the one-way west-to-east Hilltop Road. Don’t miss it!

NOTE: this activity is FREE. (The ‘tickets’ listed here are for the ‘Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk’, 16 minutes drive away.) Lovely, short walk to see some beautiful old Tingle trees. Feel the peace of being surrounded by nature. Recommend if visiting the area.

Definitely recommend stopping by for a look see around. You won't be disappointed 😎 Not sure what the little furry animal is maybe a marsupial mouse according to google

Nice walk around the bush 💓 stunning tall and huge trees! The walk is FREE and easy to follow the trail. Recommended!
Nerea S — Google review
Apart from visiting beaches all the time we were in south western Australia, we have also included some other equally exciting activities in out itinerary. We swapped our bathing gear with hiking gear and headed for the forest instead. This time, we were going to see the giant tingle tree. We arrived relatively earlier than other visitors and had the whole park to ourselves. The paths were clearly defined and the signs were informative and useful. We hiked around a few hours and although the sunny sky was blazingly hot, it did not bother us much as we were under the shade of the canopy. The tingle trees were magnificent. They are so big, huge and old. The trunks could tell a lot of stories if they could talk. We marvelled at the large hollowed out trunks and stepped into some of them to get some perspective from the inside. As expected, we were totally in awe of these gigantic trees.

Nature & Parks
Walpole-Nornalup National Park is a haven for nature enthusiasts, offering a tree top pathway and various walking trails that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the untouched forest. The park surrounds the charming coastal settlement of Walpole and boasts dramatic coastline, cliffs, beaches, and impressive karri and jarrah forests.
Some great plants, helps to have a 4x4 to get around some of the roads

The Walpole-Nornalup National Park is a protected coastal land and heavily forested area with giant Karri trees and unique Red Tingle trees found in the Walpole area. The NP is situated directly south of the Mount Frankland National Park and State Forest and around 30 minute drive west of Denmark. Visitors can enjoy fishing, bushwalking and other outdoor leisure pursuits within the Park. However, the most popular activity is visiting the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk attraction, walking along a 40-metre high suspension bridge structures through the forest canopy, admiring the giant Karri and Tingle Trees from higher vantage points. We found this to be very enjoyable activity for around 90 minutes as part of our morning drive between Albany and Margaret River. Would gladly return to experience this attraction again. With more time, it would be good to explore more of the tracks within the National Park as well.

Great inlet with beautiful scenery. Plenty to do and see! Great if you have a tinnie! Kids loved exploring through thw walk trails and in the inlet on the boat!

If only trees could talk! What amazing sites this National Park has! The Treetop Walk was an awesome feat of engineer to make the walk structure and the view/trees breathtaking. The Giant Tinkle Tree was mindboggling - wonder how old it is and what it has endured. The Circular Pools was amazing - seeing the chemical reaction of something called Sapinon making a river froth like a cappuccino was great. There were many walks. We did the short ones and they were full of info and had good surfaces.

Stunning region camping, retreat resorts, rivers, beaches, giant timbers, wine crafts and all just a short hop from one another.

terrific seeing the tall trees from the walkway above

I loved seeing the giant trees, experiencing the peace and quiet of this special forest. The tree top walk was wonderful. Being up near the top if those trees was something I could not otherwise experience. The guided walk through the Ancient Empire was informative, gently humourous, and fun. I enjoyed every minute of our day there.

The best fish + chips I've ever had!!! Just great fish and so very fresh, amazing on a Sunnday evening. A wonderful citron to go with and a portion of chips, well, never seen such an amount of fresh crispy chips to go with the fish. Just great and prepared by very, very charming people. They love to prepare something nice for their customer. Just great, thank you very much!

Literally the best tasting battered fish I’ve ever had. A huge compliment considering I grew up on the coast eating fish & chips. Generous portions for the price. Even gave us a whole sliced lemon and free tartare sauce. Legendary people. What a hidden gem of a place. Highly recommended.

What can I say about Mal and Barb at Flaming Hot Takeaways. The food is fantastic, always fresh, the servings are generous and they are great people to deal with. Definitely stop here and get a great feed. But be warned best to order ahead as they are always flat out.
Paul R — Google review
One of the best fish and chips! Great crispy fish batter, great value! We ordered 2 fish and 1 chip for $32. ( July 2023), there are 8 or 10 pieces of good size fish (can't remember) plus lots of chips. We drove 20 mins back to our accommodation and they are still very crispy and not soft at all. Business owner is also very friendly and efficient. Highly recommend.

It’s a rainy night when we got whalepol. All restaurants are closed except this takeaways. But! But! But! It’s awesome! It’s like a little star shining in the dark night, the customers are most local and just came with their bare foot and ordered. The kitchen is so big and ordered. We had the seafood pizza small size, and large garden salad which are all delicious!and the lady is so kind! We love this takeaways!

Huge portion size, got the 2 fish 1 chips. Delicious!!! Free lemons as well 😍. Super friendly owners. Definitely recommend this place!
Ivaylo T — Google review
We are not big fan of fish and chips but we were curious to try it after reading the previous comments… First the quantity/price is very good… We bough one fish and chips for 2 people and it was more than enough! We bough as well one squid and one prawn (our favourite)! The taste was good, a bit oily but that’s normal ! The waitress was really nice, I recommend this place for all fish and chips lovers… for the other one it might not convince you to love it !
Doriane D — Google review
Worth checking out when in Walpole!! It’s definitely one of the best fish and chips we’ve ever had. We took away two fish and one chip to have at the Town Jetty. Everything was crunchy and cooked just right. Fish was sweet and fresh. Enjoyed every bite of it. Thank you so much for this wonderful surprise.

The Walpole-Nornalup Visitor Centre is a must-visit stop for anyone exploring the natural wonders of Walpole. The friendly staff provides valuable information on national parks, beaches, and other attractions in the area. Additionally, they offer excellent local walking recommendations suitable for older kids and easy walks for all visitors. The center also features local crafts, food, art, and souvenirs for sale. Visitors appreciate the warm welcome and exceptional customer service provided by helpful volunteers.
Very lovely welcome and exceptional good old customer service. They do have some local crafts, food and art apart from some souvenirs to sell. Some old photos and stories of the part is displayed around the walls and heaps of info about what is happening around. We did miss out on one of the tours for yesterday and they called to let us know about an extra evening one, even though it was not happening. This is in an older building unlike most of the modern sterile ones :)

I don't normally leave bad reviews, so i won't....The best public toilets in the South west WA area, clean tidy, no bad odours, top spot for when ya bustin'! There's other picnic areas and stuff are good too...but the dunnies are great!

I loved my experience in this little town with great people who helped us with information about some tourism stuff in Walpole! We bought souvenirs for our selves to remember the place and moments!

Pleasant visitor centre. The picnic shelter next is a big place, with tap, barbeque, electrical points and benches for seating. Can hold a group of 20-30 easily.

Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff, short chat has us occupied for five days.

Called into the visitor centre to relay information about orchids found in the area. Disappointed 😞 with the fact that both volunteers didn't seem to be interested. Took information but both left the counter during conversation. Won't bother again. Their initial response was that they weren't recording any findings. Nothing was out yet.

Embark on the WOW Wilderness EcoCruise to explore the stunning Walpole and Nornalup Inlets Marine Park and Nuyts Wilderness Area from a unique perspective. With knowledgeable local guides providing entertaining commentary, you'll have the opportunity to observe wildlife and learn about the region's rich history. The skipper, Gary Muir (Gazza), is renowned for his passionate storytelling and deep understanding of Walpole, making this 3-hour cruise an unforgettable experience.
My partner and I joined a WOW Wilderness Eco Adventures tour in April and came away with a whole new appreciation for the stunning Walpole region and its history. We went mountain biking, rafting, camping and hiking - such an epic adventure. Emma’s passion and knowledge, especially about native plants and animals (she even knows the Latin names), local trails and the area’s natural beauty is truly impressive. The national park is wild and unspoiled, and so peaceful. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a meaningful adventure and want to learn more about this incredible part of the world.
Francien B — Google review
Oh golly! How could I not give you a 5 star review Gazza. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. We were so distracted by your entertainment that we didn't take any photos until we docked for morning tea. A huge thank you to your mum for her amazing lemon cake. You are a born entertainer and the information that you shared was astounding. Our only regret is that we couldn't come back and do it all again.
Kate K — Google review
Highly recommend WOW Wilderness Eco Adventures - Hike & Paddle Wilderness Experience. My guide Emma's knowledge of the history, flora & fauna of the Walpole Wilderness is exceptional! We hiked in the tingle tree forest seeing many plants i had not seen before, & paddled on the Frankland River which was beautiful & peaceful. Amazing tour. World class experience.
Kathryn W — Google review
Wow Wilderness Cruise on the Walpole Inlet is an insider’s look at the natural beauty and little known history of Walpole. Gary Muir, the owner/operator is passionate about the inlet and he is very entertaining as he tells the stories of Walpole going back hundreds of years. You traverse the inlet, tie up and walk over the hill to the beach. Tea and his mum’s homemade cake is served. It’s a fun, informative and scenic 3 hours.
Patricia H — Google review
WOW INDEED!! The WOW Wilderness Ecoadventures Pedal and Paddle Adventure is one of the very best I've ever done! I can't think of a better way to see the famous Valley of the Giants than by mountain-biking all the way through it in the morning, eating really tasty snacks along the way, and then lunch on the Frankland River before lazily paddling down it in the afternoon. Both the forest and the river through it are pristine wilderness of great beauty. Emma is extremely passionate about this area and knows SO much about the flora, fauna and history of this area over many years. She is an absolute treasure chest of really interesting facts and stories that entertain as well as inform - I learnt so much along the way. The adventure aspect was genuine and significant and fun. I hadn't actually mountain-biked before, just ridden a bike a fair bit, including down some dirt roads, so the easy mountain bike trails felt like a real achievement. My partner has done a lot of mountain biking and said it was ridiculous fun - he had a big grin on his face the whole morning. The rolled-up raft hangs on your handlebars and weighs hardly anything - I didn't really notice it there as I rode, and then the bike sits on the front of the now inflated raft as you paddle and balances out your weight at the back where the raft itself makes a comfortable back rest. I've paddled a kayak heaps, so the rafting was well within my comfort zone, unlike the mountain biking, but even if you were new to it, it was relaxing and gentle paddling in such a gorgeous location! There's a maximum of four people per trip, so book early. This is really a personal experience tailored to each group and the most amazing day trip! And Emma will go above and beyond to ensure you enjoy everything about it.
Cheryl J — Google review
Don't hesitate, just book it. Highly recommend the hike and paddle day tour. Emma was full of information and enthusiasm, learnt lots about trees, plants, flowers, moss ...... and the paddle was fabulous. The best way to experience a beautiful part of the world.
Jennie W — Google review
Awesome, the gentleman who runs it is the show, pure entertainment. It’s a historical journey through time with every paragraph connecting back to Walpole. He is very into nature as you might expect if you want to get the best out of the nature side I would recommend trying to get close to him as he walks to the beach mid way through the tour as with 20 or so people on the tour this gives you one on one time with a human encyclopaedia. Our kids loved it they were 10 and 8 it should be noted a lot of the jokes on the tour are tailored for adults but everyone got something out of it from our side.
William C — Google review
Loved our trip with Gazza and Emma. It was an interesting and entertaining history lesson of the area. The lemon tingle cake was lovely as well.
