Wave Rock Caravan Park is located at the base of the striking, wave-shaped natural rock formation that is approximately 15 meters tall and billions of years old. The caravan park offers basic amenities and clean facilities, including hot showers. While there is no camp kitchen, there are serviceable BBQs available. The management has been praised for their outstanding service and helpfulness to guests.
This is a great place to visit and the Wave Rock Caravan Park is the place to stay when visiting the area. Wave Rock is literally right behind the caravan park so walking to the Rock for morning and evening photos is no problem at all. Your caravan park admission also gets you access to the nearby salt rock pool at the Wave Rock Resort across the road which is a must see and only a 2 minute drive from the campground. Facilities are clean and there’s plenty of space between sites.

Great location for accessing wave rock. The lady who served us was rushing us and seemed annoyed that we hadn't booked even though there was space. We were parked next the road but it was very quiet didnt hear cars at all. We had a powered site. The bathrooms were clean, laundry and kitchen were good too.
Emily B — Google review
It is 3.5 out of 5. The Park is in a fantastic location. A short walk to Wave Rock & Hippo's Yawn. In the centre of the park is a large undercover area which is excellent. The small camp kitchen needs a new gas/electric stove as the old one is not that good. Amenities are old however very serviceable. Great water pressure. I do question if they get cleaned regularly. The male toilet seats desperately needs to be replaced. One of the door's to the male shower's was covered in graffiti and had 2 holes. The caravan sites had plenty of room. For a regional park is serviceable. They need to spend some money to bring the rating above a 4.
Silvano C — Google review
Great location, $45 for a powered site but no water. Service wasn’t amazing, we were very rushed, treated less then for not having a booking and very limited information provided. Amenities were very clean and plentiful. Plenty of bathrooms and showers and great communal space
Tegan I — Google review
We can't comment on the rooms as we were there in our caravan. The location is excellent for going to Wave Rock, Hippos Yawn and the nearby walks. We believe the original owners we're dedicated to promoting this amazing location but suspect the current owners are exploiting the location. We feel Wave Rock and areas are as good as Uluru and it's a shame effort sn't being put into the park. Amenities are somewhat clean but regular deeper cleans are necessary, such as removing built up dirt in the corners of bathrooms. Camp BBQs are unfortunately left unclean by campers (no signage to clean and no cleaning equipment provided) also only serviced once a day by staff, which during our stay meant all 4 BBQs we're left unclean all day.
Lyvern S — Google review
We unexpectedly needed accommodation overnight in Hyden. It was late in the day so we popped into the caravan park. The staff were really unfriendly with no smile throughout the whole time there, however, we were very grateful that there was a cabin available in the resort. The cabin we stayed in was in dire need of a renovation. We had items ready to cook but at least one burner wasn’t working. The floor felt dusty to walk on, so ended up keeping socks on. Went to have a shower & the hot water literally just trickled out so ended up with a cold shower. When we went to go to bed, we pulled back the covers to find hair on the sheets. One side had long dark hair, the other looked like men’s leg hair so I don’t think the sheets had been changed from the prior guests. Ended up having to sleep in the kids single beds. There is a sign up in the kitchen asking guests to wash their items but there was no cloths to wash them with. We ended up leaving the dirty dishes there as didn’t think it was fair to the next guests to have items washed with our hands. Then we were worried about the cleanliness of the items we had already used. The place wasn’t cheap but it is definitely not up to standard. Would recommend you stay elsewhere or keep driving.
Julie J — Google review
Didn’t stay in rooms but had a powered site. Tried to book on line but it wouldn’t allow us. Got there and had the rudest lady there that just rushed us through with payment and a brief explanation of things. Other ladies the next day were very pleasant and helpful. There for 2 days, amenities were dirty and hadn’t been cleaned while we were there. No soap in the dispensers either. Location was excellent for access to wave rock. However the hand rails going up the rock need addressing as does the path walking to hippos yawn from wave rock, very over grown. But wave rock was truly amazing and that’s what we went there for.
Jane S — Google review
Old Receptionist VERY VERY rude! Attempted online booking, dates blacked out. Rang and attempted a phone booking, left a message as requested, no return call. Arrived at caravan park only to be talked to like a dog. Old receptionist said they've got no time for online bookings or to return calls. Threw pamflets at us and told us to read. Very Rude, NO people skills, a disgrace!!! We stayed at Wave Rock short stay instead and had a beautiful, peaceful and comfortable night! 100% credit to the caretakers of Wave Rock Short Stay!!

Wave Rock

4.6
(730)
Wave Rock, located near the small town of Hyden in Western Australia, is a stunning rock formation that resembles a curling wave. It is a popular spot for photographers, especially during the early morning or late afternoon when the crowds are smaller and the changing colors and contrasts of the rock make for beautiful shots. Climbing up the rock reveals a reservoir and rainwater channeling, with informative storyboards adding to the experience.
I changed the route of my driving tour of Western Australia in a big way as soon as I saw photos of Wave Rock. Coming from another part of the world, I’d never heard of it or seen anything like it. That was an excellent decision, as this was an unforgettable sight and peak experience. First, the basics: A big parking lot with nice restrooms is right by the path entrance. There is a per-vehicle fee, payable at a kiosk, but if you are staying in the adjacent campground or one of its bungalows by Lake Magic, your ticket is included. The path is smooth, easy, and short, a 100-meter stroll to the rock. If you happened to be passing through, you could theoretically park, pee, pay, peruse, and pull out of the lot in about half an hour. But wait — This place is one that deserves more planning, more time, more respect. It is surreal and unworldly, a moment frozen in time, like water turned to stone, a gargantuan snatch of petrified ocean breaking above us but having the grace not to crash over and drown us. If you can, come just as the sun is rising, when you can hear the songs of the birds and the soft whoosh of the breeze. The Rock rises and curves and coaxes you to that place where you arrive at wonder and awe. Breathe for a bit as the colors of the stone begin to change with the ascending sun. Do this early, because even half an hour later, the crowds of loud ones arrive, with their shouts and their raucous laughter. These are the ones who just don’t get it, who don’t hear or see themselves and the impact they have on others in this sacred space. Hippo’s Yawn is accessible by walking a few minutes up the path, or you can drive to it. Mulka’s Cave, another cool rock formation, is about 20 minutes drive to the north and has a fabulous path over a huge granite knob. And don’t forget awesome Buckley’s Breakaway, about half an hour west.

A nice place to visit with friends The view is great up the rock. You can walk up to the top of the rock from the stairs and go down from the other side if you have time to have a walk. But have to be careful with the elderly, the rock is a bit slippery when you go down. There are many parking space and you can pay the entry fee at the car park.
Nana C — Google review
Great looking granite outcrop. For quality photos, better after 10:00am as the sun doesn't fully hit the wave until about then. Decent BBQ, tables, unisex & disabled toilets, located within the parking area. Parking was about $12 per car during Oct 2025. 16 photos attached of views and info.

We visited Wave Rock, Hyden again the second time and it still leaves a lasting mark on the heart. The rock itself is incredible with a giant granite wave 15 metres tall and 110 metres long, shaped over billions of years by wind and water. Walking along its edge, feeling the scale and colours shifting in the light, is humbling. What makes it even more memorable is knowing the deeper stories, the traditional Noongar name Katter Kich, legends of the Rainbow Serpent, and the ancient rock art in nearby Mulka’s Cave. The land feels alive with history, not just geology. If you ever find yourself in WA’s wheatbelt, this is a must-see. It’s more than a rock, it’s a place where nature, culture, and time meet in a way you’ll carry with you long after you leave.
ヅKannie B — Google review
This is what most visitors to Hyden come to see and it’s a great natural phenomenon which is indeed shaped like a wave. $15 per car to park which I thought was reasonable as you can easily walk for a couple of hours around the area. The wave is best viewed from the ground rather than the top. Cafe and other attractions too just opposite the car park. A must do.
Shaun L — Google review
Quite a unique and historical places especially the formation of a rock like a wave . But the problem of going there, from Perth city if you self drive down is about 5 hrs.depend which route you take.Or from Albany, you can take a trip down. If you have the energy and strength,go up the slope toward the top, where you can see 180° of the surrounding. And word of cautious, climb up and down of the slope, wear proper shoe.

Nice place to visit for a walk however it’s mainly a picture type of attraction. WARNING! We’ve never been bitten by mosquitos so much In our life. Despite wearing repellent we were attacked relentlessly. I’d recommend covering up.

Wave Rock Wildlife Park

Wildlife park
At Wave Rock Wildlife Park, a seven-acre area awaits you to engage with indigenous Australian fauna such as wombats, koalas, avian species, and unique white kangaroos that have never been encountered before. This mesmerizing park allows visitors to observe these remarkable creatures within their native habitats. The admission fee for adults is $12 while children can enter at a discounted rate of $5.
This park is one of the best we have visited. The range of birds is outstanding.

An entrance fee of 20$ for the "Toy Soldier Museum", the "Lace Place", the "Offroad Museum" and the "Wildlife Park" sounds good right? Well, the "Toy Soldier Museum" might be cool to see for kids, but the tables are overcrowed with toys and lack a nice form of presentation. Please invest some time to place them more nicely and distribute them over more tables. Enough space is available. Then, this museum can even be rated a solid 3 or 4 star. The "Wildlife Park" was by far the worst experience. Some animals could roam freely others are held in tiny cages. A lama (or alpaca) was visible suffering when walking (one leg was shaking heavily). HELP THIS POOR ANIMAL OR PUT IT DOWN! The "Wildlife Park" is just a whole disgrace and nothing children should see and think this is the standard to take "care" of animals. The "Lace Place" shows some weeding dresses from the last decades and a old car. You wouldn't miss much, when skipping.

This place is a nice little hidden gem definitely worth a look. Entry fee was very fair, and It has a great rustic country vibe. The park is heaps bigger than you'd expect looking at it from the front, so give yourself an hour or so.. The animals were varied and many from birds to reptiles, and the kids got to experience close encounters with some beautiful kangaroos thanks to the informative and friendly Matthew, who was only too happy to offer information and introductions to the animals. We were glad we checked it out and definitely recommend a visit. Would love to see the park get a little more government funding in future to help with improvements, but given the somewhat isolated location they're doing a good job.

That’s so quite and good place for visiting. We came here in early morning and tasun-photo sun rise.We like atmosphere here, fresh air, quite, amazing rock. But just after an hour, it was crowded with a lot people ,so the best way you should visit early morning.

What a beautiful wild life park in Hyden, WA. A must visit place!!!!!. Seriously, everyone (all age groups) thoroughly enjoyed this park. It is really maintained very well, a clean environment for the birds and animals. Although it is not huge in size, we saw so many rare varieties in an easily walkable place. very green environment and our special thanks goes to Matthew (10/10) who explained everything in detail, also allowed to feed and touch some of the animals.

Three hectares of natural bushland creates a beautiful haven for the native and exotic animals and birds that live at the Wave Rock Wildlife Park. Don’t miss the white, grey or silver kangaroos and wallabies, koalas, golden possums, deers, donkeys, alpacas, camels, exotic poultry, water birds, swans, owls, betongs, wombats and many more. Many other native animals and birds like the area so much that they have moved in, so keep an eye out for native birds and lizards that roam freely throughout the park. Tables and seating are provided throughout the park for your convenience. Please feel welcome to bring your own picnic lunch or alternatively you can purchase lunch, snacks and drinks at the Wildflower Shoppe Cafe. This wildlife park is solely cared for by a loving lady who has dedicated her life to these animals. Her love for elephants is a theme evident throughout the park. Mulka's Cave and Gnamma Walk Trail is a must-visit natural attraction in the southwest of Western Australia. The cave features some of the best Aboriginal art in the region, with its name stemming from an Aboriginal legend. Along with other remarkable granite outcrops like Wave Rock and The Humps, it draws over 100,000 tourists annually. The hiking trails offer fascinating stories and information, including Aboriginal rock art and legends about Mulka.
Significant place. Lovely walks. Great place to explore. Dog friendly. Minimal resources at main parking area, so be self sufficient on your walks. We Walked to the top of the Hump- views were 360 and spectacular.
Paula P — Google review
Worthwhile checking out as it's not far from wave rock and shows some rock art. Strongly recommend doing the walking trail as the views from the top of the hill are spectacular.
Chris C — Google review
🪶 Experience: A fascinating and spiritual site filled with ancient Aboriginal rock art and deep cultural history. The cave is small but powerful — you can still see handprints and markings that are thousands of years old. It’s peaceful, quiet, and surrounded by natural bushland, giving it a special atmosphere of respect and mystery. 🚗 Access & Facilities: Easy to reach by car from Wave Rock (about 15 minutes). There’s a car park, clear signage, and a short walking trail leading to the cave. No facilities on-site, but toilets and food are available back at Wave Rock. 🛡️ Safety: Safe and easy to visit. The paths are short and well-maintained, though the rocks can be slippery after rain — good shoes recommended. 🚶‍♂️ Walkability: Very accessible with gentle walking tracks suitable for most ages. The loop trail around the area offers nice views and a calm connection with nature. 🎯 Nearby Activities: Combine your visit with Wave Rock, Lake Magic, or Hippo’s Yawn — all within a short drive. The surrounding area is perfect for photography and quiet reflection. 📝 Summary: A must-see for anyone visiting Wave Rock. Mulka’s Cave offers a moving glimpse into Australia’s Indigenous heritage, set in a serene and natural environment. Respectful, educational, and unforgettable. 🖐️🌿🇦🇺

Because I suffer from COPD, I can only walk a short distance. We only had to walk 100 meters or so. Mulka's Cave is located within the vicinity of Wave Rock in Hyden Western Australia. The name Mulka comes from an Aboriginal legend associated with the cave. Mulka was the illegal son of a woman who fell in love with a man with whom marriage was forbidden according to their law. It is believed that a result of breaking these rules, she bore a son with crossed eyes. Even though he grew to be an outstandingly strong man of colossal height, his crossed eyes prevented him from aiming a spear accurately and becoming a successful hunter. Out of frustration, it is said Mulka turned to catching and eating human children, and he became the terror of the district. He lived in Mulka's Cave, where the imprints of his hands can still be seen, much larger and higher than that of an ordinary man. Mulka's Cave is located 18 kilometres north of Wave Rock off Lovering Road.

Amazing to see Aboriginal art in a cave. I highly recommend coming to see it and learning about some of the local stories! The walk to the cave from the car park is about 200m and there are about 4 big steps and a ramp to get up to the cave. You need to bend/ squat a little bit to get into the entrance to the cave.

It was very interesting, the story of Mulka was very disturbing. Definitely worth the visit

The stories and information along the hiking trails are so interesting and worth the walk. Took our little dog along. She loved it. So good to have some dog friendly places which are far to scarce in WA. The Aboriginal rock art and legend around Mulka is facinsting.

Start your day in Hyden with a visit to the Bush Bakehouse Cafe for a delicious breakfast and coffee. Located behind IGA, this cafe is known for its pleasant atmosphere and light bites. While some visitors have had mixed experiences, others rave about the amazing bacon and egg rolls made with fresh daily-baked rolls. Whether you're passing through or exploring the area's attractions like Wave Rock and Hippo Yawn, consider stopping by this cafe for a satisfying meal or snack.
After visiting Wave Rock and heading back to Kondinin, decided to stop off at the Bakery for lunch. For a small town and an equally smallish bakery, it was pretty busy. The food looked great, and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. There is a great selection of pies and sausage rolls, as well as cakes and sandwiches to satisfy your hunger. Coffee and tea is also available, they could even do me a lactose free chai! 😊 Staff were super friendly too. The lady explained to me, when I couldn’t decide on which pie to have, that they turn them over regularly and are cooking constantly through the day to keep up. I settled for a sausage roll and a pepper steak pie. It was a bit heavy on the pepper, but I like it like that. However, if it’s not for you, maybe choose one of the other varieties. I really recommend dropping in and supporting local plus get a tasty feed at the same time.

Saw reviews on the pies. Tried curry chicken pie and not fantastic. One small piece of chicken and the curry is synthetic. Service could come with a smile for tourists rather to locals only.

To find such variety and vegan options in a country town is amazing. The husband of the owner is celiac so this makes sense. The pricing is reasonable and the food great. Inside and outside seating available. Brilliant find!

It's a little ways off the sealed road and you can't see much when you pull in to the carpark but well worth the drive and the short walk along the trail. Very unusual rock and sand formations. Looks and feels like you're on an alien planet.

Sensational. Magnificent. Loved it. The colours are astonishing when the sun hits it. Although a few stairs and softish sand in places, if able and probably assisted, wheelchair access is there if you're game. Amazing what the elements have done to it.

Though it is far less famous than Wave Rock, its neighbor about 30 minutes east, Buckley’s Breakaway is fascinating, beautiful, and unique. It is far more colorful and the eroded rock formations resemble fantastic beasts and their lairs. It is free to enter, with a parking lot and easy established trail leading into the area. With picture-taking, we spent about half an hour, and I’m so happy we didn’t miss it! PS. If you aren’t from this part of Australia, know in advance that swarms of flies want very badly to do their fly thing in your eyes, mouth, nose, ears, etc. I’m not a big fan of mosquito head nets, but they saved us here and at many other desert sites in Western Australia.

You can see a natural spot where erosion has carved through the orange laterite, revealing dramatic white cliffs and winding gullies beneath. The contrast of colors and unique formations make it a truly picturesque and peaceful place to visit.

Wave Rock Cafe, located near the famous Wave Rock and part of the Wildflower Shoppe and Wave Rock Visitor Centre, offers a diverse dining experience. Whether you're looking for a full meal or a quick snack, this cafe has you covered with its breakfast, lunch, and snack options. Visitors have praised the delicious food and beverages available at the cafe, including milkshakes and coffee. Additionally, guests can enjoy exploring the adjacent wildlife park as part of their overall experience.
This is an absolutely bonkers place and I love it!!! It is the visitors centre for wave rock, a cafe with reasonable food, a souvenir shop, a Lace Museum, Wildlife Park and a Toy Museum. You pay admission for these museums and the park. The shop has EVERYTHING! T towels, hats, clothing, soap, candles you name it. The roof is decorated with massed bunches of dried wild flowers. There are antique pieces used to display quirky items. From the scary mannequin of an indigenous man at the entrance to the plastic covered tables and the vintage car, this place is wild!!!!
G M — Google review
Housed in a funky space that has the feeling of a place time forgot, the cafe looks promising as you enter. It was lunchtime when we arrived and a single person was working. I made the mistake of thinking that the woodsmoke from the fireplace in the next room was the aroma of grilled food, so we looked at the menu and eagerly ordered a barbecue burger and a sausage roll. We went outside to sit at tables on the deck overlooking a pond with a black swan paddling about. The tables were dusty and sticky, and the lovely view is a little difficult to see because of the screen windows. I guess this is necessary due to the awful flies in this whole Wave Rock area. A woman who I think was an employee was at another table, sitting there looking at her phone. I asked her if she knew whose the jacket was that was lying on the table where we wanted to sit. She said she didn’t know but that it had been lying there since the day before. The food arrived in a few minutes. My high expectations were immediately dashed when I picked up the burger, even before it got to my mouth — the bun was cold and hard — and the first bite of the meat was a shocker. The overcooked ground/minced meat was about 50% onion, giving it an un-beef-like texture and a weird whang. The “barbecue” part of the burger was a squirt of commercially prepared sauce. The whole thing was a huge disappointment. The sausage roll was better, but still not great. Again, there was lots of onion as filler in the sausage meat, along with corn. Sadly, there wasn’t even a beer to wash this down with. We settled for Coke Zero. We came here because we were waiting to check in at the Wave Rock campground across the street, but we should have driven back into Hyden.

I don't really like the food that was included in our tour package. The chicken with black sauce is too sweet. The staff were helpful and friendly. The ambience is good.

I visited this restaurant with visiting wave rock. This is only restaurant around here. This restaurant was very spacious, you can relax long driving. We ordered wave rock burger named by wave rock. The price was $18. Patties have a good beefy waste. Difficult to eat, but tasty was very good. I recommend visit this restaurant when you explore wave rock!

The dustiest place i’ve been to in a long while, which is not really what you want from a cafe. Staff were perfectly pleasant, but everything else feels very run down and lacking. The burger tasted like cardboard, coffee stale. Not to mention the attached wildlife park, which is very poor in every way, and by far the most dilapidated we’ve been to in Australia (and beyond). Would avoid altogether (wave rock itself was great though!).

This was a lovely stop for lunch with the kids. We enjoyed a fresh sandwich and sitting in a cute atmosphere. We decided to check out the wildlife park and the museums, we were surprised by how great these were. What an absolute gem! Incredible collections and history. The wildlife park was amazing! Very unexpected but pleasant surprise.
Zaid S — Google review
I can’t give this place any more good reviews. The service attitude here is extremely poor, and the sense of service is severely lacking. The short, chubby, black-haired woman with many tattoos and braided hair deliberately delayed service and gave customers a bad attitude. There are many ways to solve problems, yet she chose the one that shows the least sense of service—displaying herself in this industry with the lowest level of emotional intelligence and professionalism.
Y — Google review
This place is right out of the 70s or even 80s. The food was good, Hippo sandwich was substantial but at $20 I hoped there was more to it. Ok place to get a feed but cheaper and wider options in Hyden. The staff could’ve smiled a bit more too.

Day 2

South side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the south side side of town. Start the day off with Lake Magic, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Hyden Rock. All together, your day would be filled with about 6 hours of non-stop fun.

Lake Magic

Lake Magic is a stunning natural attraction located near Hyden, offering visitors the chance to witness its remarkable color changes throughout the day. The lake's high salt content makes it impossible for swimmers to sink, and its base of gypsum surrounded by beach sand adds to its unique features. Nearby walking trails such as the Gnamma Trail and Kalari Trail provide opportunities for exploration, while Mulkas Cave showcases interesting examples of Aboriginal hand art.
An incredibly beautiful and natural spot, very close to wave rock and the wave rock resort, with great walking trails and photo opportunities.
Aksheet R — Google review
I visited Lake Magic at Hyden after an over night stay at wave rock cottage. It was a cold windy winter morning. Grey looking skies threatening to drizzle and rain. It did when we arrived at the wildlife sanctuary. Lake magic is next to the wave rock resort which are chalets built nearby. You can walk to Lake Magic if you stayed at the Wave Rock resort. Very quiet and serene. A natural salt lake with gypsum base. You can swim in it, and you won’t sink. Recreational lake, great for a dip during summer, but too cold in winter. We just walked along the sandy lake. Nothing green grows there. 5 minutes drive to The Wave Rock.
Fiona Y — Google review
We visited magic lake which is lovely and lake Magic swim pond. Under construction We loved seeing lake magic and the salt crystalised items such as sticks it was like a fabulous science experiment The swim hole is under construction and I probably wouldn’t advise for many visiting to enter. Enter at your own risk as it is slippery, there were multiple opportunities to hurt yourself. From things such as metal/steel reinforcement pieces sticking out at the bottom of the steps stepping into the pond. Large and small pieces of limestone rock when entering the pond itself due to the poor vis ability in the water itself strong caution is suggested. There are some showers and toilets available at the site which was a huge bonus. Will be lovely when it’s all finished we hope to visit again and see the progress
Lee D — Google review
When we went it was windy, rainy and freezing cold. The lake was grey and choppy. There were clouds blocking the last part of the sunset. Can only be accessed through wave rock resort. Only go if it is a clear and perfectly still day. There was no where indicated to park to watch the sunset, we pulled over in a wider section that looked like it had been a stopping area. We had to trudge through mud to get to the lake side, which was super slippery and stuck to our shoes
Emily B — Google review
We visited lake magic and swam in the salt pond today - was lovely to float around, quite serene and we were the only 2 people having a float. Showers and toilets available which was handy. Our entrance was paid as part of our caravan park fee but we noted there is a $10 fee if your visiting from elsewhere.
Mel W — Google review
Agree with the rest of the one star reviews, certainly not worth the entry fee, or you can walk in for free, we got free access with the Wave Rock Caravan Park and it was still not worth it. Freezingggggg , windy and choppy water, sunset photo looks nice but honestly not worth paying. Maybe on a warm clear still night and walking.

The Toy Soldier and Lace Museum is a must-visit attraction in the area, featuring an impressive collection of over 10,000 handmade toy soldiers displayed in scenes depicting significant wars throughout history. Visitors can marvel at intricate displays showcasing battles in various terrains, including jungles and deserts, as well as a six-meter-long depiction of the 1953 Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Additionally, the museum houses a Miniature Soldier Museum and a vast antique Lace Collection for visitors to explore.
Lace Collection - OMG when you manage to get your eyes to refocus in the darkened room (to protect the lace) this is the most comprehensive and well preserved Lace Collection I have visited. 16 cabinets with 6 drawers in each displaying beautifully kept pieces of lace dating back to the 1800’s. Then approx 14 mannequins dressed in lace wedding dresses ranging from 1800’s through to 2000’s. Add to this a beautifully restored Dodge from the 1940’s and an old horse drawn carriage. $6 entry The toy soldiers museum has so many well painted toy soldiers - sadly this is not so well presented at the Lace - these could do with large glass display cabinets so you can get close enough to admire them. - $6 entry

The Lace Place in Hyden is a must-visit destination for lace enthusiasts, boasting the largest collection of lace in the southern hemisphere. This historical treasure trove features intricate handmade lace dating back to the 1600s, including pieces such as antique gowns and wedding dresses. Notably, visitors can marvel at an off-cut from Princess Diana's wedding veil.
This is an amazing collection. There is everything you can imagine re lace, bobbin, needle, crochet, ribbon, net, hand made and machine made. There are cabinets with pull out drawers. There are mannequins with wedding and other dresses from many different eras. It is so comprehensive and a little overwhelming. I spent an hours and could have spent two. If lace or even handcrafts are your thing, this is a must and entry (Oct 2024) is $6.

The Lace Place is a must-visit café when you’re at Wave Rock. It features a vintage Ford Model T right inside the shop, along with beautiful displays and unique items. The staff are incredibly kind and welcoming. Ask for wifi if needed. Only telestra network is available.
Phub D — Google review
Though Lace Place occupies a smallish area, the quality, quantity and range of exhibited materials are stunning! Display arrangements include a series of beautiful wooden cabinets, each containing a set of glass-topped drawers that compactly house yet more lace and may be opened by visitors. Finding a specialist collection of this type in such a remote place comes as a delightful surprise. Unfortunately, though, many visitors (like myself on 27 Aug 24) would be in tour groups bound for Wave Rock and would therefore have little time to spend here. I had only 20 minutes and would love to have stayed for 2 or 3 hours! It's to be hoped that, at some future time, this valuable collection might find its way into a major city museum (in Perth, probably) where it could be easily accessible to far more people.
Sue+Richard S — Google review
Amazing collection of antique, vintage and modern lace. I loved the accompanying photos with the original owner actually wearing the clothing. The room was a little bit dim to properly read the blurbs or see some of the detail, but it did explain that low light is best to preserve the fabric. An amazing collection you would not believe could be living in Hyden!!
Kelli B — Google review
Ive found a new love and interest. Lace. I particularly enjoyed the old world gallery of exquisite displays of vintage lace draws, mannequin displays, conversation 101 about lace and the story of how the museum "The Lace Place" came to be. I was in awe of the carriages of my yesteryear and detailed bridal gowns, baby christening gowns, gloves, collars, etc, etc. I could go on and on. Like everything hand made it must be preserved and cared for. Thank you to the curator for your curtious and caring introduction of the museum.

This event brings together various artists and people from around the world for camping, great food and drinks, films, and a huge salt pool for swimming. With high-quality caravan park facilities and proximity to the amazing Wave Rock, it's a unique opportunity to enjoy nature while having fun. A place for nature lover. Perfect for hiking and trekking. The wave rock is a walking distant from the cafe. Plenty of parking space.

Hippo's Yawn is a striking rock formation located about 5 km from Hyden town in Western Australia. It stands at about 12.6 meters high and resembles a yawning hippopotamus, minus the teeth, which gives it its name. The site is easily accessible via a short walking trail from Wave Rock and offers great photo opportunities due to its unique appearance.
Just fantastic. You can drive but the easy walk from Wave Rock is wonderful. Make sure you have insect repellent or face shield or carry a leafy branch to seat away the flies.

Words cannot express how awesome this road trip is out to wave rock. Pack snacks plenty of water you cannot go wrong. It’s easy to both walk or drive from wave rock make sure you get a selfie.
Clinton H — Google review
We followed the trail around from Wave Rock to see the yawn and yes it does look like a hippo yawning. The trail from the rock makes you feel like you are definitely in the outback. Look out for the local lizards too.
Shaun L — Google review
Located about a 2 minute drive from Wave Rock (or a 1.2km walk along the trail from Wave Rock), is a formation called Hippo’s Yawn. It’s in an open clearing a very short walk from the car park and once you arrive, it really does look like a hippo yawning! The cave itself is quite large but it’s the “top lip” of the hippo that gives the impression of a yawn. You can’t really walk too far into the cave but you definitely get an idea of it’s size once up close. You really don’t need long to visit Hippo’s Yawn. 10-15 minutes is plenty to have a look at the cave, read the information sign and take some pics.

Hippo Yawn at Hyden Visited on 21/5/2022 Hypo's Yawn is about 5 km from Hyden town, and 1 km following a trail from the base of the Wave Rock. It is a giant granite boulder with a shallow cave, about 12,6 m high from the ground to the top. The rock's resemblance to a yawning hippo, minus the teeth, has given it its name. It is a great spot for selfish. One looks rather small standing just at the bottom if it's mouth.
Sin C — Google review
Worth for 10 mts walk or 1.5 km drive from wave rock
ASR Q — Google review
Hippo's Yawn was the next stop after Wave Rock, another stunning rock formation, connected to Wave Rock by a one km stretch of walking track, apparently, Hippo's Yawn is the second most visited site in the region. This series of granite boulders seem to spring out of the land below and is the opening to a shallow cave. You can do the walk or drive down the road a little and park right in front of the formation, no waking required.

Rocky
Hyden Rock, located in Western Australia, has a rich history dating back to the 1930s when a railway was built between Kondinin and the rock. The townsite was established due to the demand for land around the railway terminus. This geological wonder is set within the ancient Yilgarn Craton, over 4,000 million years old, and is home to the world's oldest mineral at 4.3 billion years old.
Loved our weekend visit out to see this geographical wonder! The walking trails around this area are a must. They take you right around the rock itself to Hippos Yawn, salt pans and through the resort. A truly beautiful place to visit.

So glad l stopped to look at it! Got some good pictures with Canon camera.
Louise D — Google review
Hyden Rock is actually where Wave Rock “sticks out” of. It is a huge rock that you can go for a walk around (over) which I recommend, the view is great! There are some metal steps with handrails to get you to the top of the rock. The first bit is a little bit steep, but then it flattens out and the walk is pretty easy. There are some interesting rock formations to see, a great view of the dam and markers along the way so you don’t get lost. Along the way there are some information signs to read and some man-made rock formations that are pretty cool. Getting back down, there is a chain-link rail you can hold on to for clambering down the rock but even though I like a challenge, I chose to go back the way I came…down the stairs. If you’re visiting Wave Rock, don’t skip the walk over Hyden Rock. It may not look like much but you get to see the scenery and like I said, the view is amazing.
David K — Google review
Deep quiet, like you can only get away from major towns and cities. Only the sound of wind and a few birds. Peaceful and soothing. An amazing natural feature.
