Belgrave in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Belgrave, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Belgrave is a gateway village to the Dandenong Ranges, known for its lush forests, fern gullies and cool-climate scenery just east of Melbourne. It’s home to the historic Puffing Billy Railway, a century-old steam train that runs through native bushland and over famous timber trestle bridges. Nearby Sherbrooke Forest offers walking tracks, waterfalls and the chance to see lyrebirds and other native wildlife. The town itself has a small but lively mix of cafés, independent shops and local arts venues, making it a relaxed base for exploring the hills.
With favorites like Cloudehill Garden & Nursery, Puffing Billy Railway, and Olinda Tea House & Restaurant, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Pho Vietnamese Street Food and Rustic so you can get the best taste of Belgrave while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Scenic Railroads
Puffing Billy Railway is a historic steam train from 1900 that offers open-air carriages and scenic routes within the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne. It's Australia's oldest surviving steam train and takes passengers on a journey from Belgrave to Gembrook, showcasing the lush landscapes of the Dandenong Ranges. The ride includes passing over bridges, through tunnels, and by charming country towns, providing a nostalgic experience for locals and an off-the-beaten-path adventure for tourists.
My family experienced incredible emotions on this train. It was amazing! We saw lots of animals. Many people with smiles! For the kids, it was like a fairytale, very magical! The whole staff was incredibly kind! The only thing that upset me was that you need to book one to two months in advance! But it's worth it, and I would do it again! recommend it to everyone for the Puffing Billy Railway.

Had an amazing time yesterday at the puffing Billy steam train ride from Belgrave to Gembrook return It was a beautiful sunny day and the landscape and scenery was spectacular ..Almost like our train ride in Switzerland . The steam train was beautiful and it takes you back in time to the year 1900. I was a proud Victorian and was glad the puffing Billy stood the test of time The staff were all so pleasant and. Happy to be serving you . You could see that they love their job , especially our carriage attendant Vicky . We did this train ride when our daughter was 2. She is now 31. So it was a beautiful walk down memory lane .

Puffing Billy Railway – A Journey Through Time and Nature I recently had the opportunity to experience the Puffing Billy Railway, and it was truly a unique and memorable adventure. Travelling through the lush landscapes of the Dandenong Ranges on this historic steam train felt like stepping back in time, an experience that blends nostalgia, beauty, and a sense of connection with Victoria’s heritage. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff’s enthusiasm made the journey even more enjoyable. From the gentle rhythm of the train to the breathtaking scenery along the way, every moment was thoughtfully preserved and authentically Australian. It reminded me that sometimes, the best experiences are those that slow us down and let us appreciate history, nature, and the simple joy of the journey itself.

I had a wonderful time on the Puffing Billy steam train — such a unique and memorable experience! The ride was incredibly scenic, with beautiful views all along the way. The atmosphere is charming and nostalgic and you really feel like you're stepping back in time. The staff were friendly and made the journey even more enjoyable.

Took a ride on a chilly, rainy spring day, the first leg to Emerald was freezing, but the return trip was perfect, so we got to sit on the railing and really feel the wind in our faces. It’s fun for kids and adults who want to unleash their inner child, though don’t expect jaw-dropping scenery, mostly forest, some backyards, a tall wooden bridge, and locals waving as you pass. The real magic? The steam, the hissing, the smell of the old train. It’s pure nostalgia, an old-school steam train experience that’s more about the journey than the views. 🚂

Puffing Billy Railway is a unique Victorian tourist experience. (To get to Belgrave, we travelled by train from Southern Cross, transferred at Flinders Street Station and arrived fifty minutes prior to the departure of our booked train.) Booking on line is recommended, and it is an easy process. Upon arrival, one must line up at the ticket office to collect the paper ticket. This is needed to be clipped on the platform by the conductors prior to boarding the train. The Station Master, Guard, and conductors were rather perfunctory prior to departure from Belgrave. Due to late passengers, the train departed ten minutes late. We were not fussed by this, but were somewhat disappointed by the attitude of the latecomers. The PBR staff treated the offenders with patience. Good on them. The locomotive, carriages and infrastructure are all beautifully restored and obviously well maintained. The journey to Lakeside was spectacular. The views were wonderful. Listening to the loco work up the grades was a real treat. Terminating at the lovely Lakeside Station allowed one to take a look at the Garratt locomotive and its train. (This train was the earlier service and was about to return to Belgrave.) The steam crew were more than happy to chat about their roles on the footplate and the mechanical features of the loco. This was much appreciated. One then had time to wander through the Visitors Centre. The historical display is informative and well presented. Reading about the history of the rail line and the district was quite interesting. The cafeteria was incredibly busy, but after ordering our food, it arrived promptly. The food was tasty (a chicken focaccia and soup of the day), and obviously freshly made. The catering staff were great. Very efficient. A walk around the lake was a real treat. The Dandenongs are a beautiful part of Victoria. Many passengers took advantage of the long break prior to the train departing to return to Belgrave. Returning to the Lakeside platform, and taking the opportunity to checkout the NA loco, I was able to chat to the young fireman. He is a great PR rep for PBR. We were able to talk about the loco and firing techniques. The return journey to Belgrave again a wonderful experience. A highly recommended experience well worth the effort to visit.

Great night had. Enjoyable experience and definitely a must for anyone that loves trains and a bit of nostalgia. Toilet access at Belgrave was good, great communication and a really fun night for all ages

We recently held our wedding with the Puffing Billy Railway, chartering a train for our guests from Belgrave to Nobelius Siding (which was surprisingly affordable!) and hiring out the Nobelius Packing Sheds as our reception venue. On our wedding day, the staff went absolutely above and beyond in their service to us, with meal and drink service on board the train, and full catering with table service at the reception venue. The locomotive crew were even willing to move the train for better photos after its arrival at the station, and were willing to delay the return trip to Belgrave by 15-30 minutes when the reception ran late. It felt like the entire railway was there for us, and every one of our guests had nothing but positive things to say about the experience. During the planning process, the railway and staff were also very accommodating. They provided us with multiple inspections of both the venue and the dining carriages so that we could plan ahead, set up a taste testing date for the reception menu, worked with us to schedule a train that worked around their existing timetable, and allowed us access to the venue on the day before and after the wedding for bump in/out. Although there were sometimes some issues in communication which led to a headache or two, they allowed us to develop a thorough plan well in advance of the day. All in all, I'd highly recommend Puffing Billy as a venue for anyone looking for a way to make their wedding day a bit more unique. (Photos by "Had To Be You Weddings".)

Had a special price listed on tap, bartender didn't apply it to any drinks poured from it. Was licking his fingers between each drink served and then plastering them over the next glass. Ordered drinks, then they proceeded to ignore my order and go to next person. Shame, cause place had a great vibe. Just let down by terrible service.

me and 14 of my friends went to 12 bar for a couple hrs as part of pub golf. We spent lots of money there and were having a great time supporting a local business. That was until I was accused of firstly stealing 2 bottles of alcohol then giving them to some lady. Of course i didn’t do it and explained that i didn’t do it. After that I walked outside to stand with my friends, and not 2 minutes after the first accusation some man that works at the Bar comes up to me, grabs on to me and violently yells at me in front of all if my friends to open my bag and let him look in it because “ Stephanie’s stuff is missing” and he thinks i have taken it. I am so angry with how i was treated and it was so so inappropriate. Me and my friends told this man that this was not appropriate and he then went into the bar and brought out the owner who still continued to accuse me and my friends of stealing. Even when we said no repeatedly it was obvious she didn’t believe us with the hostile attitude that was displayed by 12 bar staff. That was 3 times that i felt attacked and threatened by 12 bar staff. I never got a genuine apology from the owner of the Bar or from the man that grabbed me and spoke to me violently. I am so offended and embarrassed about how i was treated, it was not good enough. I will struggle to go back there after enduring what i went through last night

12 Bar has great blues music on a Saturday night, and a variety of music on Fridays. Open mic is Monday nights. The recent upgrades are brilliant. The new sound system is incredible. The lighting, atmosphere and cocktails are amazing! The new owner has invested so much into the place, the hard work has paid off! A popular local venue, be sure to check it out!

Belgrave Emporium boasts an eclectic, well-curated selection of items and oddities in an accessible and cozy location! One can truly spend hours picking apart a seemingly never-ending collection - I know I did. Prices are usually reasonable but may occasionally be somewhat on the steeper side for select objects. The staff offer an amicable hospitality, but seemed rather glacial and condescending at times - especially in comparison to other storekeepers in the area. Overall a pleasant place with some flaws.
Iva S — Google review
Unique products from handicrafts to upcycled resale. Something for everyone.

Only giving 2 stars because of the staff there. Judgemental, rude and unhelpful. Was not acknowledged as we came in and was treated as an inconvenience when we wanted to buy a plant. Train your staff on how to conduct themselves in retail customer service. Otherwise, the shop had great items. The main feedback I would add to be more specific is that there was not a hello, and when we asked if we could pay for the item and come back to pick up the item after we had lunch, it was like we asked for too much.

The township also hosts several popular markets on a regular basis, including the Big Dreams Market that takes place every second Sunday of the month. This market offers a variety of handmade products such as chutney, jams, woodworking, and jewelry. Despite poor weather conditions during one visit, the availability of hot fresh cacao drinks and gazebos made the experience worthwhile. While prices may be higher than average, the market provides delicious gourmet bread and spreads that are worth trying.
Went there to pick up something and saw the market so we thought we'd pop in. Great market with plants, delicious food, teas, alternative stuff, clothes and the great part was the entertainment. The guy that plays music has sooo many instruments and equipment. The music was really good. I totally enjoyed it and the food was absolutely delicious.

Perfectly situated near a car park in the back streets of Belgrave, the Big Dreams Market has a little bit of everything you might find at a crafty market, in saying that - apparently the day we went it was not completely full with lots of stalls missing 😔 With friendly stall holders, coffee, some food vans & a musician, this market has a calm & relaxing atmosphere. You will find all things from knits, soaps, veggies, clothing, books / authors, plants, chutneys to name a few. Will have to go back to experience a full market & check out what else is on offer.. 🥰 Overall a very nice country market, defs check it out if you’re a lover of craft markets. Ps - not a lot of organic produce on offer!

It was absolutely awesome 😍 I was t expecting that big market but it was nice and dog friendly so many space. Kids can get entertained by staff. Handmade craft and so on. It’s worth trying! If you are going to go to Dandenong.

Treetops Adventure Belgrave offers an exhilarating experience for adventure seekers. This high ropes course allows you to navigate through the treetops, featuring zip lining and aerial challenges amidst tall trees such as sequoias and old oaks. With courses suitable for all ages and skill levels, including beginner (Green), intermediate (Blue), advanced (Red), and expert (Black) levels, there's something for everyone.
Wowwwwww! The most incredible experience ever! The trees are incredible and we even encountered some native Aussie wildlife. My sisters and I visited in a random weekday a few weeks ago and there was absolutely nobody but us. Granted it was a cold and slightly wet day but we had much more fun than I could have imagined. The staff was so incredibly patient and had the most amazing energy. At our grown age (20 years plus) we all had the most fun ever. Would actually recommend it to anyone or any age, but it does actually test your physical strength and looks much easier than you’d think. Thank you to the staff there!! We’ll definitely be returning, in some more appropriate weather.

This is our third location and it did not disappoint. It is in a breathtaking part of Belgrave and the course itself was fantastic. You must book or you will be disappointed. Every session on the Saturday was booked out. The staff were helpful and friendly the course challenging in the best possible way. Bring your snacks as there isn’t anything there to buy. We will be back.

So much fun! Thrilling for all ages! And a bit of hard work too, so avoid certain courses if you don't want an upper body workout. Staff were all lovely and very helpful. Can't wait to go back!

A great adventure for kids and a fitness challenge for adults (even if you just walk), the hill is very steep! Careful: some platforms are very high, approx 20m !

We had a great time here as a family. There are multiple courses available, depending on your readiness. Just note that if your child can only go on a junior course, you will need to supervise on the ground. We rotated the task between the parents so that we could still take on some of the courses. Do note that your child will need to be confident enough to manage his / her own way through the course (along with navigating the safety gear through the cables). Staff will come running by if you shout for help. In all, loved the fact that you can choose the courses and the place is big enough with multiple courses to let you enjoy the experience without the stress of others coming up behind you.
Xianjing T — Google review
We had a fantastic experience at Treetop Surfing Belgrave! My 7-year-old daughter did the Junior Session, which includes access to three courses. When we visited last year, she was quite scared of the orange course, but when we returned last week, she was much more confident and had an amazing time. She’s already asked to come back for her 9th birthday, saying she’ll be ready then to challenge herself with the next level! The only downside is the toilet situation—it’s located at the car park, which is a bit of a walk from the course area. It wasn’t very clean and had a strong smell. I’d recommend using the toilet right after parking, as going during the session can be inconvenient—you’ll need to remove your gear and walk quite a way. Overall, it’s a wonderful place for kids to build confidence and have fun outdoors!
Alice C — Google review
First, you can only buy tickets online. Second, it may seem expensive but you have 2.5 hours there and my family thought it was totally worth it. Before use the staff walk you through the equipment and how to use it on a ground level area. You then go to the 'home' tree (start area). From there you can choose which course to go on. Starting with green, blue (long & short), red (1&2) and black . You will not be able to do them all in the allocated session. There are obstacles and zip lines. Heaps of fun
Dean P — Google review
Excellent place to enjoy a fun day out for kids and adults. Lots of climbing tracks, from easy to advanced. All equipment is provided and easy to use. Parking is available on site. Bring a phone pouch if you want to take photos, but they are sold there too. The staff were helpful. It is a pricey activity, however, that's what you expect for a unique experience.

Pho Vietnamese Street Food in Melbourne is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Vietnamese cuisine. This charming takeaway spot, run by a dedicated family, serves up delightful dishes that keep patrons coming back week after week. Their beef and brisket pho is highly recommended, while the curry laksa has been praised as the best around—better than what you might find in Malaysia! The handmade spring rolls are crafted with care, and the fried wontons are simply irresistible.
An amazing atmosphere with fun board games to play. Amazing food. Wonton soup was very tasty with a strong broth and nice noodles and a very decent serve. The chicken sizzle and Mongolian sauce was also very good and sweet (not oily at all). The ginger tea in a pot was a nice add on to the food as well as the ice cream.

the only vietnamese is melbourne worth going to. pho and curry laksa are both my weekly meals. only take away joint ill every spend my money at happily. precious dedicated hard working family that give their all into everything they make. highly recommend beef and brisket pho! and the curry laksa is the best i’ve ever had! better than malaysia! spring rolls are all handmade with love, and the fried wontons are hard to say no to!! would recommend supporting them on their more quiet nights tuesday-thursday to avoid long wait times as it’s a small kitchen and crew.

This lovely little Vietnamese street food spot in Belgrave is an absolute go-to when you’re after something fresh, flavourful, and satisfying. Whether you’re dining solo, grabbing a casual meal with friends or family, or just picking up a quick takeaway, this place makes it easy and enjoyable. I tried their wonton noodle soup and roast quail, and both were incredibly well done. The noodle soup was just how it should be - clear, comforting broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and delicate wontons that were full of flavour. It’s the kind of dish that warms you up from the inside and feels like a proper, nourishing meal. The quail was beautifully seasoned, tender, and juicy, with that lovely crisped skin that just melts in your mouth. They also offer a decent selection of beers, which is a nice touch if you’re looking to pair your meal with something refreshing. It’s not a huge drinks list, but it’s thoughtful and fits the menu well. The staff here are always friendly and welcoming, adding to the relaxed and inviting vibe. Even when it’s busy, they’re efficient and kind - it feels like you’re being looked after by people who genuinely care about their food and their customers. If you’re in the hills and craving a quick, delicious Vietnamese meal - dine-in or takeaway - this spot is a must-visit. Simple, tasty, and full of heart. Highly recommend.

Good street parking - Interesting Vietnamese restaurant - first impression walking in - the front door mat looked dirty, worn & 100 years old, we were hesitant about walking in, the windows were dirty, gave me the impression that this place looked & felt unclean. The space itself looks like an old fish & chip shop with the fryers to the side. I sited 3 heaters in the place - none of them were on, it was freezing. The waiter came to us & gave us a note pad & pen to write the numbers for our order then come up to register with said notepad to order & pay?!? (Interesting concept) We were brought over some very small paper cups & a bottle of water. Not many gf options, I opted for flat rice noodles (thinking they’d be gf) only to be told that they contained wheat flour as well (don’t call them rice noodles) I opted for a laksa with tofu & veg, it had minimal veg & the tofu was sliced ever so thin. My husband had fried rice which was very bland & duck curry, he said it was ok. The toilets were dirty. This place needs a really good clean!

I ordered some takeaway for my dinner tonight, and it really made my day! The veggie bean curd noodle soup was so flavourful and made me feel so good; really nourishing for me on a day where I am not feeling so well. The portion size was so generous that I am going to get two meals out of it for 20 bucks! I was really pleasantly surprised; would highly recommend this place. Thank you guys so much.

Great food!!! The best Pho I have ever had in Melbourne. Great customer service. Friendly staffs. Reasonable price for the generous serving meals we had. Especially they don’t use MSG in their food. Recommended and must try their Pho. Don’t know why some reviews just say it bad in the very rude way.

Just coming back from a trip in Vietnam it was refreshing to learn how authentic the Pho is they serve at this place. The portions are generous as well. Veggie Pho is not on the menue but if you don’t mind beef stock you can have it without meet. Staff is very friendly. We are looking forward to go back soon.

This was easily one of the best Vietnamese meals we've had, and I am so glad we did not look at the reviews first. The Beef Pho was absolutely delicious and the Sizzling Squid with Lemongrass and Chilli was perfect. The wait staff were polite and keen to do a great job. Easily better than a 5 star experience. Great little space in Belgrave doing hearty, fantastic and creative breakfast menu items, utterly delicious, with a great selection of pastries, and the coffee is very well made. The whole place has been refreshed, and the vibe is better than ever. The food is next level — inventive, hearty, and beautifully presented. Whether you're into small plates like the burnt pepper calamari or feeling fancy with a slow-cooked beef bourguignon, there’s something here that hits the spot. And don’t skip the desserts — the sticky date pudding is dangerously good! Matty, the owner and chef, is an absolute legend — always up for a chat and a laugh, and clearly passionate about what he’s doing. You really feel welcomed here. Now serving great wine and local beer too, Rustic has truly become a standout restaurant in the Hills. Can’t wait to come back!

We enjoyed a relaxed Sunday brunch at Rustic cafe in Belgrave. The staff were warm and welcoming and the meals were generous, delicious and well presented. Offering indoor and outdoor dining options, you won’t be disappointed. Coffees were spot on and the service was quick and efficient. We’ll be back to try the appealing selection of homemade cakes and pastries for sure! Well gone guys.

First night off in over two weeks so we decided to try the new Rustic Cafe in Belgrave. Three mains and three large sides for $90? Crazy talk. But every single dish was brilliant! Even the bread was good. Do yourself a favour and try it out. The salmon and the confit Chicken were particularly good and Lachy said the Beef Burgundy was the best thing he had ever smelled! And the chat potatoes. Wow. Support a local business and spoil yourself at the same time.

Wow this is the type of cafe I love reviewing 5 star all the way, first point of contact was clover ☘️ ☀️6 stars ✨ what a ray of beautiful ray of sunshine 100 percent dedicated to her job could not fault. Owner and chef Matt is hard working passionate chef 5 stars all the way, my eggs with shroom topping whet extremely tasty and cooked to perfection 💕 I also had a pot of home brewed loose leaf green tea brewed by Kate 5 stars all the way. I highly recommend this establishment as a relaxed intimate setting 😊👍🥰

A cute little cafe that serves delicious food. My sister and I ordered the waffles (bacon, pistacio cream with maple syrup and strawberries) which was delicious and highly recommend if you like your sweet and savoury flavours combined together. Our partners ordered the "Dandy" which is pretty much a big breakfast. Only comes with 1 slice of sourdough toast though so order another slice if you like your bread. It is small though and if you like your space, I wouldn't go during peak times. I do warn you that this place also doesn't have a toilet. The nearest amenities is 50 meters away from the cafe at Cameo cinema. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this cafe if you're in the area. Food is great and staff is lovely, it is a very nice spot to have a meal with family and friends.

Cafe
Nestled in a beautifully restored 1930s bluestone building, Earthly Pleasures Cafe is a delightful spot that exudes charm with its exposed brick and dark wood decor. This cozy cafe is celebrated for its creative housemade dishes, particularly appealing to those seeking vegan options. The menu features enticing choices like the signature Buddha Bowl, hearty vegan toasties, and refreshing H.A.L (hummus, avocado, and lemon on sourdough).
Doesn't matter how many times we come here, we still love this place. Mid autumn the garden has an alluring ambience, every turn is a picturesque wonder, the 1930's building is a rare experience within and architecture of the past. The staff are welcoming and friendly, service is fast. Food also rates 5 stars. Coffee is a bit weaker, but hot and still nice. Definitely a great choice for brunch.

What a hiddengem! I was looking for a brunch place in the area & came across this based on Google reviews. My friend is vegetarian & we are glad this place has a menu that caters a wide variety of vegetarian vegan options + a good selection of non-veg options. Highly recommend this cafe if you're looking for good quality food.

Earthly Pleasures in Belgrave is a total favourite! Their coffee and chai are always spot on, and the brunch menu is full of fresh, flavour-packed dishes that never miss. We were lucky enough to hold our wedding at Earthly Pleasures. It was the most amazing intimate venue for our special day. The whole team were exceptional, the food (we had alot of dietaries that were all catered for perfectly) and the service were flawless, they made sure no one missed out and it all tasted incredible. Our guests couldn't compliment the food, service, space, staff or venue enough. With many going back as soon as they opened up for their usual cafe operations.

This is a beautiful place with friendly staff who brings the food and the gentleman who was at the counter. We always come here as a pit stop and get a quick grab and go as it can get busy and best to book! We bought their cola too! Love that they have a natural organic display table of products and a support wall!

you’re after an experience different to your usual local cafe, you’ve got to check out Earthly Pleasures Cafe in the Dandenong ranges. Has the rustic yet modern vibes, very cozy featuring a beautiful garden surrounding an old heritage stone building. We tried the ▪️Turkish Poached Eggs ($23.50) poached eggs on a bed of ricotta yoghurt, minted pistachio chili oil & sweet dukkha with Turkish bread ▪️Eggs Benedict ($24.50) locally smoked free-range ham, poached eggs, wilted spinach & house-made hollandaise on sourdough ▪️Chips ($10.50) ▫️Cappuccino ($6.00) ▫️Long black ($5.00) Food and coffee were not bad, nothing too out of the ordinary, decent menu selection and overall we had a wonderful experience!

Belgrave Pizza House is a popular spot known for its delicious and unique pizzas with a wide variety of toppings, including jalapenos. Customers appreciate the tasty crust and reasonable prices. Despite being short-staffed, the owner provides great service and maintains an excellent atmosphere. The pizza bases are just right in thickness, generously topped but not overly oily. It's definitely worth making the trip to pick up these fantastic pizzas if delivery isn't an option.
Highly recommend!! We ordered three vegan pizzas tonight via the app (vegan cheese is a special note as they have it advertised on the window but not on the apps yet). It was absolutely delicious, creamy cheese and soooo much of it!! The zucchini on the vegetarian was so fresh and base delicious almost a wood fired type of dough. Garlic pizza was crispy and fresh. Napoli sauce on margarita was also really nice. Can't wait for them to have some veg "meat" options on the menu.

We ordered takeaway food based on the price board in the shop, after paying we realised we were over charged. Went back to the counter to query the price and we were advised those prices are 10 years old, Manager comes over and advises “we will change the prices on board now”!! Highly doubt nobody has queried the over charge in 10 years.. wow.. regardless of how good or bad this food is, definitely won’t be back or recommending to others.

Belgrave Pizza House wouldn’t be the same without Billy Wilson! From the moment you walk in, he makes you feel welcome with his friendly personality and genuine care for the customers. He goes above and beyond to make sure every order is spot on, and you can really tell he takes pride in his work. Not only does Billy know the menu inside out, but he’s always happy to recommend the perfect pizza or sides depending on what you’re craving. His service is fast, reliable, and always delivered with a smile. You can see how much he values both the food and the community—it’s rare to find someone so consistent and dedicated. If you’re in Belgrave and want great pizza with outstanding service, ask for Billy. He’s an absolute legend and a big reason why Belgrave Pizza House is such a favourite!

Ate in and cannot fault the pizza. Great crust that has both a nice crunch and a chewy texture. My kid who had the pepperoni said "This pizza is great! I give it 5 stars" and I agree with him. It's a nice little place. My pizza had heaps of toppings too. Be aware the medium pizza is more of what you get as a large in standard pizza joints. And the large is family size! I think the pizza is best fresh, so have a go and eat in!

Tonight was our first experience with Belgrave Pizza House - we were not disappointed. We have lived in Lysterfield for over 10 years and have never enjoyed any of the pizza’s in our surrounding area, and we’ve tried many! We had given up looking until tonight! The bases were lovely, not too thick or thin and the toppings were generous and very tasty indeed. The prices were great considering the skyrocketing prices at present. It was worth the trip and we will definitely be back!!! Well done Belgrave Pizza House.

Gardens
Nestled in the Dandenong Ranges, the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden spans 36 hectares and is renowned as Melbourne's premier cool-climate garden. Formerly known as The National Rhododendron Garden, it boasts a vibrant display of over 15,000 rhododendrons, 12,000 azaleas, 3,000 camellias, and 250,000 daffodils.
The Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden is honestly stunning. The colours in spring are next level rhododendrons, azaleas, cherry blossoms everywhere. It’s big enough that you can wander for ages, but it still feels peaceful and not overcrowded. What I love most is how calm it feels. You’re just walking, surrounded by flowers and fresh mountain air, and it kind of forces you to slow down. If you’re into nature, photography, or just want a break from the city, this place is a gem. Totally worth the trip.

We got there a little too late to do it justice. But WOW! The rhododendrons were magnificent. The colour range simply amazing. The trees and ferns going there were also beautiful. The beds of azaleas were also stunning and I think there are still a few weeks of god flowering to come. It was super busy parking and a little crazy.

An Absolutely Amazing Day Out at the Dandenong Ranges National Rhododendron Garden! My recent visit to the National Rhododendron Garden was absolutely amazing—a truly beautiful escape into nature! The colours and scents of the gardens were breathtaking, providing a serene and relaxing environment perfect for strolling and exploring. I was particularly impressed with the facilities and overall accessibility. Finding a ( not very well-maintained) toilet was not easy, but having at least such a thing in the middle of the garden was very helpful. And the on-site shop was a wonderful surprise. I loved that we could buy some plants to take home and enjoy the garden's beauty a little longer while having ice creams. Crucially, the garden is highly commendable for its wheelchair entrance, ensuring that this stunning natural retreat is accessible to everyone. The staff have clearly made an effort to make the experience comfortable and enjoyable for all visitors. If you are looking for a beautiful, tranquil, and well-equipped garden experience in the Dandenongs, I highly recommend a visit. We can't wait to return!

Visited in mid-October with an elderly. The flowers were stunningly beautiful. We did not walk through the entire garden, only the area near the entrance including Chelsea Australian Garden, and it was already enough for us. We spent about two hours there. My mother really enjoyed taking her time to admire the flowers slowly. It is great and free to visit. There are several toilets in the garden. The souvenirs were not overpriced as well. Highly recommended.

Beautiful gardens!! Very well maintained. Gentle slopes, saw kookaburras and a lyre bird, was hoping to see a wombat but just saw some signs saying they were causing mischief instead. Get there before or around 10am if you want to enjoy the peace and scerenity and avoid crowds.

Stunning Botanical Garden! Gorgeous trees and flowers and huge variety of plants, the Australian Garden is not only beautiful but extremely interesting and has lots of informative plaques to go with it. Parking can fill up quick, especially on spring days with good weather so I recommend getting in early! You'll want lots of time to look at everything anyway, it's a huge park.

Beautiful place to explore and appreciate God’s creation. Have been coming back to see the Rhododendrons in Oct/Nov with the family for many years now and it’s always amazing to see newer parts of the garden becoming more established. Parking is reasonable, but you may have to drive around for a bit on busy days.

Additionally, Afous Moroccan and Spanish Tapas at Cloudehill allows BYO for a small fee per person, offering flexibility in beverage choices.
Stunning gardens with my senses overwhelmed with fragrance, colour and structures. Something to take in you need to visit more than once so becoming a member would be worthwhile. The nursery wasn't the largest by any means however the garden is exquisite. One of the best gardens I have visited and I have seen plenty. See pics

10 acres worth of land to explore.you have one side of the garden with different flowers and plans and trees. Then the other side you enter a massive Forrest like area. Definitely worth the $15. We went in the rain and it was still amazing. The trees and the flowers in the distance was magical

Absolutely loved our experience here. Worth the $15 entry fee. Gardens very well maintained and variety of different flowers and fauna. The sculptures were a fantastic touch. I loved the quotes everywhere too. The woodland area looked great it was nice to have a bit of a track environment. Spent about 2 hours here

While waiting for our restaurant reservation, we visited a nearby garden that was a true feast for the eyes. Managing such an enormous garden must be no easy task, but it was absolutely spectacular. The only downside was the lack of signposts, which made it easy to get lost at times. However, the admission fee was well worth it.

"Winter strips the soul bare to welcome the newborn cries of spring" - Angie Welland Crosby. Cloudehill in late Aug is reflecting this. Not wheelchair or stroller friendly- only in the upper level around onsite Seasons restaurant possibly. Free entry for under 16 & Diggers Club members - otherwise $15. Has been pretty dry for a while, so even non-deciduous greenery - some here are looking sorry & parched. Lacking focal interest but guess areas are being prepped for Spring show hopefully. Both layout map & Cloudehill website is not reflecting the current actual state of what is on offer in winter. Box hedges however are green & lush & clipped to perfection. Pretty lower meadow of daffodils, bits of jonquils & little peeks of grape hyacinth here & there. Spot the English prickly holly & other cool clime winter flora. Hellebores are abundant near Seasons artwork Not sure what happened to the Commedia Lawn with the colourful Harlequin, Pierrot etc that would have brightened up the wintry lull. Empty pots at the Peony Pavilion made it dreary - the hostas in pots always added interest here with sweeping downhill/uphill vista to the ornate urn. Minerva Sulis water feature & draping vines in the upper entry terrace is missing too. I look forward to whatever is planned in its stead but atm there is nothing much here that draws the eye in - just wintry drab dryness & bare plots. The steeper descent into the Woods (gully) is mysterious & a lovely wander through flowering camellias, rhododendrons & towering cedars. Enjoyed this quieter meander but be aware that you will have to make your way up again. Statues, artwork & concrete engraved quotes scattered around but I am not enamoured with all of them..that's my personal thing. Needs more light-hearted fun stuff to balance it all out me thinks. Stephanie Alexander with menacing knife near kitchen garden is er.rr menacing! Appreciate the tribute to women of coz. You can get the map for seed hunt which is a fun activity that gets you around. Takes a lot to manage a massive garden like this. Not like Highgrove Gardens in Cotswold (visited in Sept last year) where a battery of gardeners tend to it & yet, there is abandon to nature principle which you find here too. A Stumpery garden like in Highgrove would work beautifully - when I saw all the fallen logs bordering pathways or left where they had fallen.

Peaceful gardens with wonderful luminous autumn colours at this time of the year. The gift shop has some great surprises such as papaya and dragon fruit plants for sale along with the usual garden store seedlings/herbaceous potted plants and citrus.

I would recommend not to waste $15 on each adult to visit there. The garden is not well managed. They will hand you garden map, but while walking through the garden, there is no signage of A, B, C area, and no description where you are!! It's more like you have been lost in the maze. Not accessible for wheelchair or pram. Not that much attractive, good for one time explore

I visited this arboretum in autumn, and it was absolutely beautiful. The red leaves peeking through the tips of the conifer trees created such a stunning contrast — it looked like something out of a painting. This place is so serene, making it a perfect spot to unwind and connect with nature. What made the visit even more special was that my friends got engaged here. It's a very beautiful place to relax. It has two barbecues and two tables and benches to sit and eat. There is also a toilet. There is a walking trail that takes about 2 hours. A short section of the trail is steeper, but overall the trail is a good hike and won't be too difficult. There is also free parking.

What a beautiful area with walking trails. Took us 2.5 hours on the short trail around the park - that's because we stopped a lot to take photos and have lunch. If you just walk you can do this in about 1.5hrs. it's so serene and peaceful here. It wasn't busy this cool Tuesday morning. Some scenic spots along this trail. Alfred Nicholas Memorial Garden, located in the Dandenong Ranges, is a picturesque woodland park with enchanting features such as waterfalls, islands, and a charming boathouse. Originally part of the historic Burnham Beeches estate, this 13-hectare public garden offers a sensory feast for visitors of all ages. The autumn season brings vibrant displays of red, orange, and gold foliage around the serene lakes.
Beautiful gardens throughout. We were hoping for the spectacular autumn leaves we have seen in the past but they have not quite turned yet. It will be amazing in a couple of weeks with the cooler weather starting. Parking on a long weekend was a bit if a nightmare...but a lovely day out once inside, and it did not feel crowded in the slightest as its such a large area to explore. Highly recommend for a tranquil day out.
J H — Google review
Alfred Nicholas Memorial Garden is a beautiful and well-maintained spot with parking available across the road, as no vehicles are allowed inside the park. During my visit, most of the walking tracks were closed due to recent winds and fallen trees, but the grounds were still lovely to explore. There are some steep areas, so be prepared for a bit of a climb. The park has a few picnic tables and a gazebo, making it a nice place to sit and relax. The only downside was dealing with magpies. Overall, it’s worth spending 3–4 hours here

If you’re in search of a peaceful retreat surrounded by stunning natural beauty, look no further than Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens; this garden is a true testament to his visionary architecture. From the stunning Art Deco home ( now empty) to the lush ferns and towering eucalyptus trees that line the paths are simply breathtaking, creating an atmosphere of serenity that’s perfect for a leisurely stroll. The walking paths are a highlight, winding their way through the expansive grounds and offering tranquil spots to stop and admire the surroundings. The journey takes you past the charming boathouse and peaceful ponds, all of which have been impeccably maintained, preserving the elegance of the gardens. Whether you’re admiring the vibrant flower beds or gazing up at the impressive trees, the beauty of the space is undeniable. While much of the garden is accessible, it’s worth noting that some parts of the paths can be a bit challenging for wheelchair users due to uneven terrain. However, it’s still a very enjoyable experience, and visitors can easily navigate the more accessible areas without missing out on the beauty of the gardens. This garden is a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, offering both a peaceful retreat and a glimpse into the gift that Alfred Nicholas bestowed to the public. Whether you’re a nature lover or just looking for a calm spot to unwind, Memorial Gardens is an absolute must-visit.

Nestled in the picturesque Dandenong Ranges, about 50 kilometers from Melbourne CBD, Olinda Tea House & Restaurant offers a unique dining experience. The venue encourages guests to bring their own alcoholic drinks and provides a cozy atmosphere with friendly staff. The Asian-inspired tea house is surrounded by serene gardens sculpted in an Asian style, creating a tranquil oasis away from the touristy areas.
We had our dinner to celebrate our marriage with a intimate dinner, and Olinda Tea House and Adi were amazing in helping us organise and plan! For anyone organising a event, the food here was AMAZING. We had rave reviews from everyone that the range of food from the banquet menu was so good, we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of food. All our guests we're saying it was a feast! The food was perfect for our asian and western guests. Adi also helped us lay out or decorations and gifts for everyone too, and was really prompt in replying to us. The staff were friendly, and they helped make our birthday celebration feel special. The food was delicious with generous portion sizes, and we were pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of cakes and desserts available. Perfect sweet ending to the meal! They also have a winter promotion on right now, which makes it even more worth a visit. Overall, a beautiful venue with great service — highly recommended for a relaxing dinner or special occasion.

Food’s pretty authentic. The chicken soup was delicious. However service was very average, there were empty table inside but no walk ins welcomed. Asked a waiter for a take away box, and he never returned. Even though there were a lot of staff walking in and out the restaurant throughout my dining experience there.

We had an amazing wedding experience here at Olinda Tea House! Adi the wedding manager is amazing and we had multiple calls and meetings to go through all the logistics and our wedding ran super smoothly because of it. The indoor and outdoor options for ceremony were fantastic too, it meant we could set up the ceremony on the deck when the weather was looking bad. We had our Chinese tea ceremony in the gazebos which was really nice! Our guests could not stop gushing about how good the food was. The one vegetarian guest said it was the best vegetarian food he’s ever had at a wedding. Also the alpacas were very cute!

Booked high tea with my wife on a saturday. It is a nice venue with outdoor dining areas but i booked the indoor which was a bit noisy due to the lunch crowd. Good thing it quiet down around 2:30. The service was very good and attentive to your needs. The food was not all that bad some were just a bit of a miss. The scones lacked that buttery taste but my wife thought it just lacked any taste. Also ordered the matcha latte which i thought was a bit grainy ( i dont hold it against them, only few places i think can make it great and most of them are in japan) The tea selection was also somewhat limited and drinks were limited to 2 serves where most high tea places let me swap out the teas more than 2 times. But overall i enjoyed the high tea and the venue. If i come back next time i will book the garden option which lets you sit in your own gazebo outside the garden area. Bonus is the alpaca in the garden you can take photos with them and quite friendly

Review Date: 24.08.2025, we visited around lunchtime and, despite the venue being quite busy, we were able to secure a table for two without a reservation. While the vegetarian fried rice and bowls of chips were enjoyable and served hot, the twisted prawns and calamari were unfortunately served cold, which detracted from the overall dining experience. On a positive note, the service was warm and attentive, and the setting itself offered a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere.

Italian restaurant
Dudley's, located in Dandenongs, is a popular spot known for its delicious wood-fired pizzas and generous portions. The restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere with two open fireplaces and two outdoor courtyards. Guests can enjoy a variety of dishes including breakfast favorites, light tapas, hand-made wood-fired pizzas, traditional pastas, and hearty mains. The establishment also serves excellent spaghetti with meatballs and mulled wine.
Amazing! Came here on my last day in Australia and had a wonderful meal with my friend. Also thank you to Ash and Jared for making our time at the restaurant really nice (they were so lovely and checked up on us through the meal to ensure everything was good- it was!!) and their recommendations for where to go in the local area were brilliant! Will definitely need to come here again :)

The pizza was delicious and the service was warm and welcoming. The highlight for me was definitely the sticky date pudding – absolutely amazing! This place is well worth a visit, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

If you want great Italian food book a table at Dudleys. We had the flathead with chips and salad and a spaghetti carbonara. We also shared a garlic and cheese pizza. The food was delicious especially the carbonara. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Smiling, happy staff make your meal at Dudleys even more enjoyable. It's nice to see staff who enjoy their job.

August 2025: I came here with a group of hikers after a 16 km hike. We were all famished. I am writing this as a Level 7 contributor on Google. Based on previous reviews, the fish and chips, and those thin-crust pizzas were recommended. A few of us ordered the fish and chips, including me. The batter was not too dry, and the fish was moist and juicy. The chef was also generous with the amount of dressing for the salad. Two in the group had the pizza. One said that it was delicious, while the other said that it was average. I had a tasting of the pizza and I like it, but probably not as much as the fish and chips. We ordered through the QR code which enabled us to pay separately, based on what we ordered. There was a 10% surcharge on weekends.

What a wonderful gem. Family owned and a lovely back story … food was excellent and the staff were amazing. Felt like I was a local yet it was my first time. It wasn’t a planned trip so we walked in and they found us a table. Honestly, you will enjoy and well priced too. For the back story - go and find out 😁 the sweet potato chips were YUMMY!! I was converted. Gorgeous fireplace too.

Bakery
Proserpina Bakehouse is a charming cafe that offers an array of freshly made pastries, cakes, tarts, and sandwiches using the finest ingredients. Whether you choose to dine in and observe the pastry-making process or opt for a takeaway, the experience promises to be delightful. The establishment seems to attract a steady stream of patrons throughout the week, with its popularity evident from the bustling atmosphere. Visitors have praised their creamy hot chocolate and delectable croissants.
This place is unbelievable. I have never experienced such a great environment before for a cafe. We ordered one cheese cake, one devil’s chocolate cake and a decaf to go. Cakes blew our mind away and coffee was great as well. The outdoor seating arrangement was great and dog friendly. I highly recommend this place for weekend brunches or coffees. What a gem! Only downside is the queue. I had to wait 25 minutes for my turn to order. But it was a pleasant experience as I was ogling at their varieties of goodies and baked items.

Charming little Bakehouse offering a delightful selection of both savory and sweet pastries. The service is exceptional, with the friendly front counter staff always greeting customers with a warm smile. It's a pet-friendly venue with outdoor seating, perfect for enjoying sunny days. Just a heads up—the place can get busy, so arriving early is recommended!

Cute bakehouse, wait time was quite a while, but the staff are CLEARLY doing the best they can to keep up with demand. Pantry items also available, plenty of seating.. inside and out with HEAPS of offerings to indulge in. Tried the veg pie which was a curry potato.. honestly wouldn’t line up for it again.. a friend got a piece of cake and whilst the filling was delicious, the actual cake was dry.. overall quite a long and costly pit stop, but the vibes were definitely there.

I visited here to buy takeaway. Overall - nice vibe, interesting food range (breakfast pizza!). Pricey food. May return to try something else but wary of prices (pricing not shown on shelves), and will ensure staff actually go and check ingredient listings for dietary needs, seem untrained in this area. The store was pleasantly bustling, although I’m sure it gets loud when entirely full. Bread loaves appeared to be almost sold out mid morning. Beautiful range of cakes. Many shelves of local jams, pickled things, wines, chocolates etc. I ordered a small apple pie to takeaway, checked whether it contained nuts (due to an allergy) and was told no. I was shocked it cost $11 yet was really a single serve size. Polite service but a 5minute wait for the cold apple pie to be boxed up to go. The pastry was firm not very buttery, apples were lightly flavoured - with some sort of crumb mixed in that seemed to have almond nut flavouring! Couldn’t phone to confirm as calls go straight to voicemail. Was disappointed. Other reviews mention great meat pies so I may return to try them - in the meantime I’ll keep enjoying the fantastic ones from Quarry Bakehouse.

We were craving a scenic drive and a bit of exploring, so we headed over to here in the Dandenong Ranges. What we ordered: ❤️ Rhubarb Tart 🍓 Strawberry Custard Tart 🐷 Proserpina Sausage Roll ☕️ Long Black ☕️ Flat White ☕️ Babycino The place is undeniably charming, very aesthetically pleasing, and welcoming. The food, especially the tarts, looked gorgeous. Unfortunately, the rhubarb tart was too crumbly. It fell apart the moment we tried to pick it up with a fork, almost like a dry cookie. The strawberry custard tart had good flavour, but the base was so tough it was difficult to cut through. As for the sausage roll, it had a strong pork flavour. It was great if that's your thing, but the highlight was definitely the sauce that came with it. Given how highly rated this place is on Google, we’re wondering if we just caught an off day or chose the wrong items. We did pick up some of their house-made merch and pantry goods, and the tomato relish and zucchini pickle were absolutely delicious! Note: Be prepared for a bit of a wait. This place gets very busy on weekends.

This cute bakehouse in the Dandenong Ranges is a nice stop for a post-hike treat. I hiked from the 1000 Steps and rewarded myself with a Cedro Escargot and a flat white. Despite the name, the Cedro Escargot doesn’t actually contain snails—it’s a pastry with notes of cinnamon, raisins, and orange. The full list of flavours is on the menu. Overall, it was alright, but a good spot to finish your hike

Get in early or there will be a queue out the door on weekends! Been here countless times and it has been a hit every single time. Favourite orders: smoked salmon tartlet, apple crumble tart, beef pie Coffee always on point too.

Postarani Bakehouse is a charming little gem nestled in the hills, and it’s quickly become a favourite spot for coffee, pastries, and the kind of comfort food that hits the spot every time. Whether you're after a slow morning with a warm croissant and a flat white, or just looking to grab a loaf of bread for home, this place never disappoints. Their coffee is consistently great — smooth, rich, and well-balanced, made just the way you like it. The cakes and pastries are freshly baked and beautifully presented, with just the right balance of indulgence and finesse. From buttery croissants and pain au chocolat to seasonal specials, there’s always something tempting in the display cabinet. One of the highlights for me is their bread. Whether it’s a crusty sourdough, seeded loaf, or something more classic, it’s always fresh and full of flavour. Perfect for dipping into soups, making sandwiches, or simply enjoying with a generous slab of butter at home. Weekends can get very busy, and understandably so — it’s hard to resist the warm, inviting vibe and mouthwatering smell of baked goods wafting out the door. If you're planning to dine in, be prepared for a short wait, especially during peak times. But honestly, sitting there with a hot drink and a pastry, surrounded by the lush hills, is part of the experience. It’s a true hills café moment. If you're short on time, takeaway is a great option too — everything is packed up nicely, and the quality holds up even when you’re on the go. Postarani Bakehouse is the kind of place that feels like a weekend treat — whether you're dining in or taking it home, you're in for something delicious.
