Skyrail Rainforest Cableway offers a unique way to experience the ancient rainforest in Tropical North Queensland. The 7.5km cable car ride takes you over the rainforest canopy, with opportunities to explore two rainforest floor stations along the way - Red Peak and Barron Falls. The journey provides stunning views and a chance to spot electric blue Ulysses butterflies.
Skyrail Cairns was an unforgettable experience! The views over the rainforest were absolutely stunning, and the entire journey was peaceful and relaxing. We felt very safe at every station, and the information provided along the way was clear and helpful. It made the experience even more meaningful and educational. The shops at the stations were fun to browse through, and the photos taken at the end turned out beautifully — a lovely keepsake from the day. We truly enjoyed every part of the ride. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Cairns — it’s a must-do experience!

I 100% recommend doing the skyrail. I did it there and back and WOW such amazing views. You get if at two stops between the start and finish and you get the most amazing views of the rainforest and the waterfall. I also fully recommend getting of at karunda and exploring the town, it was so beautiful.
Niamh S — Google review
Amazing experience gliding over World Heritage rainforest with stunning views of Barron Falls and the canopy. The mid-stations with boardwalks and ranger talks make it more than just a ride—it’s educational and memorable. Diamond View gondolas are worth it for the glass floor. It can get warm in the cabins and busy at peak times, but overall it’s a must-do when visiting Cairns.
Debs M — Google review
We took the railway up & the skyrail down. Excellent experience - a definite highlight of the holiday. Staff were friendly and efficient. Spectacular views. Great gift shop. The stops were great to make it a full experience and provide great views of the falls. It works very well, being able to get on and off, with staff talking you through the process each time, and keeping it running smoothly.
Danielle Z — Google review
Take the train up and Skyrail down. Book in advance. Hop off the Skyrail on the way back to see the waterfall from the other side ( better view). 8am to 1pm was more than enough to see everything. They will say you must be there 30 minutes before train’s departure, but look 10-15 is plenty.

Another great trip while in Cairns, scenic rail to the Karunda village, aboriginal experience, cruise down river on army ducks, then the amazing trip down on the skyrail. Highly recommend this day trip. It's a long day but we'll worth it.
Bruce M — Google review
An experience well worth the cost and time… Left from the base terminal at the earliest (8:30 am) time available…} Possibly the best time to go - to beat the crowds, especially during peak season (School Holidays in July)… Stopped at each location along the considerable ride and worth each one…. To smell and hear the rain-forest is worth it. The staff were so accommodating and attempted were possible to seat people for the best possible experience… Give yourself at least 1/2 a day to experience both the Skyrail and Kuranda.

Enjoyed it. Good views of the rainforest canopy and the Barron Gorge etc. Great view of Cairns northern beaches as you come over the escarpment.

Shopping
Smithfield Shopping Centre is a large commercial mall located on the Captain Cook Highway in Cairns City. It offers a wide range of brand-name department stores, boutiques, eateries, and even a movie theatre. For those interested in vintage furniture, records, second-hand books, or hand-made jewelry, Oceana Walk nearby is the perfect place to start. The arcade houses various shops that cater to unique and locally-made crafts and accessories.
Fantastic huge centre. It's all there, every shop you can imagine, some quite innovative. Wise to check the floor map if your you're not good on walking. There are several easy access carparks and many entries closer to your call of your choice. I Love the place Fantastic. D
Deb H — Google review
Smithfield Shopping Centre is my local shopping centre. Yes I get a lot from Kuranda IGA, but id be lost without Smithfield Shopping Centre. Got my barber in there, Christian at Smithfield Barbers, got Woolies and Coles and half day Quarter Marathon opportunity in between. Nice Food Court in 2 zones, the inside one with a Outside area that's wonderful and cool, the Food places around the Woolies entrance have indoor/outdoor dining. There a super Cool Butcher and my favourite shop the WholeLife HealthFoods just between the two main food areas of the Centre. There is of course wonderful Sushi, a Cafe and all sorts down the Coles end. Very Cool Shopping Centre! Theres 4 or more great hairdresser and barber opportunities, there's Fashion plentiful through the middle CarriageWay that makes up the spaceship that is Smithfield Shopping Centre mate.

This is the worst shopping center in cairns probably the worst in the world. I'm not trying to be hurtful but if you're looking for a place to shop then you should go anywhere else. I am being as honest as I possibly can be with this review but this place is just awful. Would recommend you going literally anywhere else.

Not sure what Andy is talking about. It was your usual shopping centre. Nothing wrong at all. I reckon K2 50 liters of water in the bowl.

Waterfalls
Barron Falls is a stunning 250-meter waterfall located in Barron Gorge National Park, North Queensland. Visitors can take a scenic trail to reach lookout points offering breathtaking views of the cascading waters from the Barron River. The area is part of the oldest tropical rainforest in the world, providing an enchanting experience for nature enthusiasts.
Barron Falls – Absolutely Majestic! Arriving at the Barron Falls lookout after the scenic train journey was a truly awe-inspiring experience. The anticipation built during the winding ascent through the rainforest, and then, suddenly, you're presented with this powerful and breathtaking natural wonder. Even from the viewing platforms, the sheer scale and force of the water cascading down the Barron Gorge is immense. The mist rising from the base creates a dramatic atmosphere, and the roar of the falls is something you can feel as much as hear. It’s a fantastic reward after the scenic railway trip. The different viewing areas offer varied perspectives, allowing you to appreciate the falls from multiple angles. The signage provides helpful information about the geology and ecology of the area, adding another layer of appreciation to the experience. The brief stop here as part of the Kuranda Scenic Railway journey is perfectly timed to allow for some fantastic photo opportunities and a chance to truly soak in the natural beauty. It’s a stark reminder of the raw power of nature and a definite highlight of the entire Kuranda experience. Whether you visit during the wet season when the falls are at their peak flow or during a drier period when you can see more of the rock formations, Barron Falls is a must-see. The accessibility provided by the Kuranda Scenic Railway makes it an easy and unforgettable addition to any Cairns itinerary. Don't forget your camera – you'll want to capture this incredible sight!

Walked around Mossman Gorge. The rainforest circuit track took about an hour. It is not wheelchair or pram friendly or for people that cannot walk up hill over rocks and on uneven surfaces. However, there is a shorter walk with a path and suspension bridge that is easier for all.
ROCHELLE D — Google review
A nice little walk through the bush with little peeks of the falls motivating you to keep moving. Absolutely breathtaking views, and nice and cool even as we're heading towards summer.
Joshua H — Google review
Visit Karanda via Skyway or historic train and return vice versa to get the best views! 100% recommend the day trip.
Susan D — Google review
Absolutely stunning place. Would recommend for anyone and everyone to visit in their lifetime. It’s a great walk but is also accessible to everyone regardless of physical ability.
Leo — Google review
Two views, one unforgettable waterfall! We saw Barron Falls twice — first from the Kuranda Scenic Railway, then later from the Skyrail Cableway — and both were absolutely stunning in their own way. From the train, you get a dramatic, close-up view of the falls thundering through the gorge. On the way down with the Skyrail, the panorama opens up, and you see the full scale of the landscape from above. Two totally different experiences — both breathtaking! Don’t miss the boardwalk lookout stops. This waterfall is a true highlight.
Marie C — Google review
The waterfall is beautiful. The walk to the viewpoint is easy and takes about 10 to 15 minutes. If you have a drone, you can take great pictures, as drones weighing less than 250 grams are permitted in that area.
Pasindu R — Google review
Breathtaking, well worth a visit even on a cloudy day in June when the waterfall is not as full as at other times of the year. Great tracks to walk down and take photos.

Embark on a journey through time and nature with the Kuranda Scenic Railway, an iconic vintage train ride that connects Cairns and Kuranda. Dating back to 1891, this historic railway offers a glimpse into the challenges faced by pioneers who built it, including hand-cut tunnels and harsh conditions. As you traverse through lush rainforests, catch sight of cascading waterfalls and the breathtaking Barron Gorge.
Beautiful place to visit with family, partner, or friends! You can walk, eat at one of the many restaurants, and take the scenic railway to Kuranda. Along the way, you'll stop at a lookout point to take in the stunning views. Once you arrive in Kuranda, you'll have plenty of restaurant options to choose from. You can also stroll around, and be sure to visit the butterfly sanctuary. It's a truly beautiful place! One tip: be sure to buy your tickets in advance, as you'll have the option to choose your transportation. There are two options: you can take a bus to a designated point, then board the railway, or take the railway for the return journey. The train ride offers breathtaking views, making it a great way to cap off your day. Highly recommended!"
Stephy M — Google review
Great train ride, good views and at the scenic locations the train even slows down to enjoy the views! The combination of train ride and the gondola is not cheap, but its an unique experience with a rich history.
Sander V — Google review
We took the railway up and the cable car down. It was a wonderful experience and we enjoyed the commentary about the railway and the views. It was well organised and there were clean restrooms and a cafe at the station while you wait for the train. Everything ran efficiently and was well organised. We highly recommend this experience A+++

We took the railway up, and the skyrail down (2 ad + 2 tweens). It was a stunning trip up to Kuranda. The landscape is beautiful. The handouts are great, and it was really nice to follow along with the map, corresponding to the audio voice over at points of interest. There was a brief stop at Barron Falls to allow a better view of the waterfall. A truly lovely experience.

A wonderful trip to Kuranda. We were fortunate to get Gold pass at the last moment. It was very relaxing with drink and morning/afternoon tea service. Very comfy lounge seating. Would recommend 👌
Julie C — Google review
Lovely train ride from Cairns to Kuranda with stunning views. So much history & very informative. Journey takes 2hrs one way. I paid $85 for a return ticket. I had to reschedule my booking multiple times, which wasn't an issue. Definitely recommend booking in advance.
Nga M — Google review
A truly spectacular and scenic journey! The Kuranda Scenic Railway is a must-do for anyone visiting Cairns. The old-school train carriages are charming, and the ride through the rainforest is breathtaking. The views of Barron Falls are incredible, and it's amazing to see the engineering of the track. A perfect way to experience the beauty of the Wet Tropics.
Santosh B — Google review
A lovely experience. If you want to do the sky rail as well then your best option is to take the sky rail up to Kurando and book both through the sky rail site and add a bus transfer to the lower sky rail station. Then you can stay on the scenic railway all the way back to Cairns station. The trip itself was 100% scenic with some amazing corners in the tracks and views of several waterfalls. The trip back to Cairns takes about 1.5 hours. Cheers and enjoy

Nestled in Kuranda, the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is a rainforest-like aviary that houses over 2000 butterflies. It's renowned as the world's largest live butterfly display and has been recognized by the Guinness Book of Records. The sanctuary offers an enchanting experience with its vast, lush enclosure where visitors can witness 1,500 brilliantly colored butterflies, including the iconic electric blue Ulysses.
Very wonderful experience overall. For anyone worried that imraininy weather will affect your experience, don’t worry! We entered in a rainy day and was a bit concerned that the butterflies would all into hiding. But the staff at the ticket counter explained to us that the entire sanctuary is indoors. She also said that butterflies tend to fold in their wings when they sense rain to protect themselves from injury. Of course the butterflies don’t know that they are under protection and will still fold in their wings slightly. That being said you are still able to fully see the wings and admire their beauty!! Another thing I really enjoyed was how informative it was. A butterfly glossary was provided to help you identify them at the entrance. There were little trivia questions scattered throughout the walk. AND chattting with the staff and understanding their jobs was so interesting to learn about!! Definitely recommend. Also bring your student card for cheeky consession 🤭🤭
Andrea L — Google review
It was a fun experience. There are so many butterflies in their cool little greenhouse. It is smaller than expected but full of life. And many of the butterflies even landed on us as we walked around. The vegetation is beautiful as well. We did manage to see some unique ones (the bug shiny blue ones) outside but they were to quick to snap a picture of them!! Price is reasonable for what they have. I would recommend it.
Elly A — Google review
The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary in Kuranda, Queensland, is a pretty good attraction for butterfly enthusiasts and families. The main aviary is a highlight, housing what seemed like a couple hundred butterflies fluttering around in a vibrant, tropical environment. The variety of species was impressive, and there’s no denying that butterflies are absolutely stunning creatures—this place does a great job of showcasing their beauty. The sanctuary also features a caterpillar house, which offers a fascinating glimpse into the butterfly breeding process. This area includes informative displays and a small exhibit that added an educational layer to the visit. My kids particularly enjoyed the fairy garden, a dedicated space with smaller butterfly breeds that felt tailored to younger visitors. It was a charming touch that kept them engaged. However, I have some reservations about the value for money. For my family of three kids and a grandparent, the entry fee was $80. While the sanctuary is well-maintained, the experience is entirely self-guided, relying on walk-through paths and reading informational signs. There’s no guided tour or real interactive component to deepen the experience, which left me feeling that $80 was a bit steep for what we got. Your family might find it worthwhile, especially if you’re passionate about butterflies, but it’s worth keeping the cost and self-guided nature in mind. Overall, the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is a lovely spot to appreciate these incredible creatures, but the price tag may not match the experience for everyone.
Michelle M — Google review
It is very impressive to see so many butterflies at the same time and so closely. However we thought we’d see more species and also the price was too high for what we saw. It was definitely an interesting experience, but would not go again.
Berta A — Google review
The sanctuary was smaller than we expected but was a great way to fill in half an hour. The butterflies were everywhere and we really enjoyed looking at their beautiful colours. The price was slightly high for the size of the sanctuary and amount of time spent, but we did enjoy the experience overall.
Amber K — Google review
Nice enough place to visit while on holiday - highly priced as a family entry though. Short time spent at the sanctuary, enough time to walk around and see most butterflies. If travelling on a budget, would suggest finding a different day trip activity
Abbie G — Google review
Always a pleasant experience encountering butterflies. Small little habitat but lots of beautiful butterflies everywhere. Family friendly, toilets available and informative centre. Definitely recommend if you are a sucker for butterflies like myself.
Melissa-rose M — Google review
We really enjoyed our visit to the sanctuary, so many beautiful butterflies and a lovely gift shop but we thought $25 per adult was a little expensive for the experience however it didn't stop us and we do still highly recommend everyone visits 😊

Sushio Tokio Smithfield is a delightful gem for sushi enthusiasts, offering an impressive array of gluten-free options, including gluten-free soy sauce. This cozy spot is known for its accommodating staff who are eager to create special rolls tailored to your dietary needs. Regulars rave about the chicken bento box and the mouthwatering kara-age chicken curry with rice, both of which deliver great value and customizable spice levels.
Tiny little shop with HUGE tick for customer service and great food. I hope they realise what an asset the wonderful person serving at the front is for them. She is tip top with a lovely attitude and personable manner.

Am somewhat of a regular and love the food from here, either the all chicken bento box or karage chicken curry with rice, both are great. Decent value, can choose your spice level, quick and efficient service, and the lady at the counter has been there every time I've been there and she is so cheerful and happy, always has a smile and happy to help.

McDonald's is a timeless fast-food institution that has been delighting taste buds for decades. Renowned for its iconic burgers and crispy fries, this beloved chain offers a quick and satisfying dining experience. Whether you're grabbing a meal on the go or enjoying a casual outing with friends, McDonald's remains a staple in the world of fast food, serving up familiar favorites that keep customers coming back for more.
Was so keen to try the Big Arch burger but when I ordered it, there wasn’t ANY onion…no crispy onions, or slivered onions. 👎 Just get the order right it’s really not that hard!!

I was absolutely disgusted and appalled by this maccas. One autumn morning I was driving down the cairns western arterial road and I spotted a sign that said there was a maccas three minutes ahead. The hungry lad I am, I stepped on the accelerator to get to Maccas within 3 minutes of course, Setting a timer to check that Maccas wasn’t ripping me off of my valuable time hours. As a result, in you can imagine the shock and horror on my face when I saw that it took 4 minutes and 17 seconds to arrive. I was so appalled that I went to eat at the Maccas at manoora, risking life because of this restaurants terrible service. ZERO STARS
Owen R — Google review
I love McDonald's for takeaways, but whenever I dine in, the atmosphere isn't always that bad. The food preparation looks good from the way I open the paper bag. The food also arrives relatively on time too.
Keith W — Google review
Filthy Restaurant area including children's playground.. Manger has no focus on the restaurant area. Only focused on keeping drive thru moving. Tables dirty, no staff wiping down. Full soft drink on the floor. Instead of mopping up they just put a wet floor sign over it. So sad to McDonald’s that has lost its hygienic ways that once made them the leaders in fast food.
Damien G — Google review
First time having McDonald’s in Australia in years. It’s way overpriced, service is just as slow as in the US and the food is not as good. The Coke Zero Sugar tasted like 20 different flavors in one. The kids liked the play area.
Jeremy G — Google review
The first time I went to Smithfield's Maccas drive-thru, I should have learnt my lesson and never returned. One hot day, I went through the drive-thru for a large orange juice. After hitting the highway I drank some, which was very watery all the way through and completely tasteless! I hoped it was a one time error. The second time I went to the drive-thru, I ordered loaded fries on its own. I drove to the carpark, tasted it and spat out icy cold fries with cold liquid cheese! I went back to complain, they apologised and gave me another loaded fries and assured me this one would be better. Testing the warmth of the new loaded fries, I stuck my finger in the centre of it, and my finger almost got frost bite! I gave it back for a refund, and told the staff eating frozen fries is not acceptable. The staff member made excuses that the manager tells them to make it that way. Terrible management.
Sonia D — Google review
This place must be shut down!!!! Never ever I saw a McDonald or any restaurant so badly organised. People working there simply have not idea of what they have to do or how to prioritise! The manager must be fired! My order took 20 minutes and they were not busy with customers! I ordered a sprite and I got a bitter sparking water ( probably the sprite flavour was finished in the machine and no one refill it) , I ordered Mc Crispy deluxe and got instead a mc chicken, I asked to redo my McCrispy and waited 10 minutes more. Also I got another burger with half burger broken like it was felt on the floor!!!! All kitchen looks a mess and they mistaken also other orders. If this is what McDonalds consider right for workers clearly not trained and customers not served, I would consider next time hungry jacks which is in front of them.
Francesco V — Google review
All my food was cold, chips were cold & soggy, cheese burger came with the meat half hanging out one side & cold, Fillet O fish were also cold, worst Maccas I’ve ever had from here. Keep in mind this my local. I won’t be back, Rather drive to Cairns instead. Hats off to your terrible food, it’s a shame I have to take time out to make this review, your branch to needs to pick up your game. I actually spat out my first bite of everything you gave me. Thanks for leaving me hungry 🙄

Beautiful trees and plants along a winding pathway with a pretty lake. Has toilets, cafe and information centre. It has an area for music and bands to play. They have a market the last Sunday of the month, which I attended. There were varied locally made things to buy and also street food to eat. All in all a great place to visit.

The Cairns Botanical Gardens are a must-visit for anyone who enjoys botanical gardens or is spending time in the area with kids. The variety and beauty of the plants on display are simply stunning, and the gardens are so well maintained that every path feels like a new discovery. We especially enjoyed the scenic boardwalk and the lookout over the lake—it’s peaceful and offers a lovely view of the surrounding nature. Great way to spend an afternoon in the beautiful botanical garden. Amazing bird sound as you wander through the gardens. Loved the variety of flowering plants

Beautiful spot. Friends of the Gardens run tours at 10am Mon to Fri and there's a bird tour Tuesdays at 7.30am! Look out for the Friends of the Garden visitors centre as well as the council run visitors centre - lots of awesome souvenirs in both, with Friends of the Garden very decently priced.

Cairns Botanic Gardens is a pleasant place to visit with a cozy little café and clean restrooms. It’s a peaceful spot with some nice walking paths and tropical plants. However, compared to botanic gardens in larger Australian cities, it’s relatively small and doesn’t feel as well-maintained. Worth a quick visit if you’re nearby, but not particularly impressive overall.

Military Museums
The Australian Armour & Artillery Museum in Cairns, Australia is a top destination for those interested in military history. The museum showcases a wide range of exhibits dating back to the 1800s, with a particular focus on WWII artifacts. Visitors can explore an extensive collection of armored vehicles, cannons, and tanks while learning about the country's military heritage. Additionally, the museum offers an immersive experience that allows guests to gain insight into combat equipment and historical significance.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Incredible collection — so glad we've got 3 days to see it all! We visited yesterday and are already planning to go back tomorrow. The 3-day ticket is perfect — there's so much to see, and you don’t want to rush through it. The museum is huge and very well organised. Tanks, armoured vehicles, artillery — all beautifully restored and displayed. The variety and scale of the collection are truly impressive. It’s great for all ages. Whether you're a history buff or just curious, you'll find something fascinating. Highly recommended — give yourself plenty of time to take it all in. We’re so glad we did!
Marie C — Google review
What an impressive collection! If you're a history buff or just enjoy learning, I can highly recommend visiting this museum. You can get up close and observe machinery and weaponry that have survived for hundreds of years. So much to see, and several experiences such as the shooting gallery and Humvee rides available to observe or participate in (get there early!) There is a play area for the kids, and a well stocked gift shop. Be prepared it is quite warm inside the very large shed, so stay hydrated.
Bonnie B — Google review
Well worth a visit if you’re into this type of boys toys. Everything is well laid out and the information boards are informative. There are special activity days and also you can book rides on a couple of vehicles but check first. Another busy attraction is the rifle range downstairs
Dennis H — Google review
Awesome collection of armour/tanks. Been following their YouTube channel for awhile now and was keen to visit. Must see if you are into WW2 Tanks and history as well as more modern armour. Warning, a large collection and so much to look at just don't take a partner that is not as interested in it as much as you are...lol. I needed more time to read the descriptions and take reference pictures for my model kit set growing collection.
Warren R — Google review
Definitely worth every penny. Really admire the love and care that went into keeping everything in pristine condition. The displays are well layed out and the shop has plenty of things you can buy for memories. Easy parking and there are clean public toilets on site.
Hai B — Google review
I was expecting it to be great and it was even better than that! A must-see fir any fans of artillery, the military, war history and memorabilia. I recommend paying for the top tier shooting range package.
Brian — Google review
Amazing ! Had a great day . Driven around in a Humvee was great fun. Used a couple of guns on the range, all done very safely . Lots of historic vehicles and a really good gift shop .
Sean C — Google review
If you haven't been here then you should definitely put it on your bucket list. This is one of the better collections of Armour and artillery pieces in the world. To maximise your time and experience here I would recommend to come to Ausarmourfest where you can ride some of the tanks and get to see some truly rare pieces of history in motion. Ausarmourfest was well organised and executed we all had a ball and took away some life time memories with us. Thank you to all the staff who were friendly and very helpful plus answered any and all of our questions. keep up the great work and good luck with the maintenance and clean up after another epic event.

Skypark Cairns by AJ Hackett is an adventure park that offers a variety of adrenaline-pumping activities set amidst the lush rainforest. Visitors can experience the thrill of bungee jumping from a 50-meter tower, with options for different jump styles including forward-facing, backward, flips, and even blindfolded jumps. For those seeking an exhilarating ride, the Minjin Jungle Swing provides an opportunity to soar through the rainforest at high speeds.
We had our wedding at Skypark, and it was absolutely beautiful! As you can see from the pictures, the venue exceeded our expectations and turned into the perfect spot for our special day. Initially, we didn’t expect it to become such an amazing setting for a wedding, but it truly was. The staff were incredibly supportive and kind throughout the entire process. They helped us so much, and we are beyond grateful for all the assistance and care they provided. The venue was stunning, and the service was exceptional. Thank you to the entire team for making our day unforgettable!

I didn’t take part of the activities but watched . The staff made us feel welcome to watch and no cost . Beautiful setting with cafe and bar . Fun watching those brave people jump .

Fun thing to try. Prices are pretty good. Staff are friendly and helpful. A lot of stairs to the top, gets the heart pumping. Probably wouldn't do it again. Nobody mentioned the free Tshirt, luckily one staff member told us about it on the way out.

I booked the Big Swing for my mother and I on her birthday this week. The big swing was absolutely amazing! We ended up booking a tandem bungee but I was a bit nervous and my mum ended up doing a solo jump. Very entertaining watching everyone jump & swing. The staff are very friendly. I was very happy with the footage of our big swing. I received a voucher for my bungee jump. We will be back sometime soon so I can complete my first bungee. Thankyou for the great day! My mother very much enjoyed her birthday.

Another awesome experience at Skypark. This places was the reason we came back to Cairns. Great facilities, a bar and a hot food available. Staff were super friendly, they're inclusive and accommodating to everyone of all ages and abilities. My son had a great time bungy jumping for his birthday. We bought tickets in advance for simplicity's sake, but you can purchase them there too.

Amazing experience! The bungee jump was absolutely insane — pure adrenaline from start to finish! The team was super friendly and professional, and the pickup right in front of my hostel made everything so easy. Totally worth it — 10/10 would do again!

If you find yourself in Cairns, make sure to stop by Hungry Jack's Burgers in Smithfield for a satisfying fast-food experience. This long-standing chain is known for its hearty beef and chicken burgers, complemented by delicious ice cream and refreshing soft drinks. Many visitors have made the switch from other fast-food spots and are thrilled with their choice. The milkshakes are particularly delightful, while the hot chips come out perfectly crispy every time.
The food is great but depends what you order. The fries are perfect and I personally like the thickness of it. The service is good with fairly new ordering machines. The atmosphere is quite nice; however, it has the stereotypical fast-food beeping.
Keith W — Google review
Being amongst the first customers on a Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m. we would have expected that the place would have been cleaned overnight. But no, the tables were still dirty, there was old food on the floor, and the bathrooms were filthy, not having been cleaned at all. This included old urine around the urinal and toilet paper scattered on the floor of the men's toilet. The food itself was a sad state of affairs, looking almost nothing like the food in the photos. The small sliver of bacon on the burger was a sick pale pink and nothing like the advertised fried piece of bacon. It appeared that the wrap had been thrown together as quickly as possible and, considering the price, it was well below any form of expectation. I reported this to the manager and showed him the tables and the toilets. On the positive side, he was very apologetic and pleasant but, at the end of the day, it is still his responsibility as it is a reflection on the company.

Probably one of the better locations around Cairns for some quick fast food. Never had any issues at this location. The prices are also not too bad.

We have always been maccas people but we have decided to boycott them, so decided that we would try Hungry Jacks. We are so glad that we tried them. The milkshakes were very tasty and the hot chips were cooked to perfection. We used the drive through and had no wait time. The staff were really friendly and efficient. Thank you Smithfield, we will be back next time we are in Cairns

Couldn't understand the person taking my order at the drive through. Had to say so several times. Thought I could hear muffled laughter in the background. Finally spoke coherently to me. I said at the pay window I couldn't understand a word being spoken to me. Got an apology. Waited several mins from around 1:15 for my order. Several cars behind me. Lots of talking in hungry jacks area. Finally my food came, was casually handed to me "here's your food " Quickly checked inside the bag. Loaded chip box, lid open not even filled correctly, gravy and chips stone cold, 2 juniors whoppers, cold, 2 small chips totally cold. Worst experience ever. I know it is a show holiday but your getting paid extra wages to work. First time I've ever had to complain. Only go randomly. Always had good to fair service. Today was terrible. Won't be back .
Anne W — Google review
It was in the afternoon and clearly not busy as I was the only person in a car using the drive through. I waited for several minutes to place my order with no success. I called out to the microphone and again no success. I drove round to the window. The window was in the closed position and I could see several staff members standing around talking. Some even appeared to be dancing. Finally someone saw me and slid the window open. Before I could speak he said, sorry about that, we were changing headsets’. I did not respond and I placed my order. I drove to the second window and collected my order. I drove to the car park to check my order and it was incorrect. I had to go into the ‘restaurant’ to let them know. They rectified the issue. After such a wait the quality was not good. The chicken wings were cold and dry. I am well aware I am not purchasing Michelin quality food, but something boarding on edible would be good.
Emma — Google review
Horrible burgers, went there tonight, fries were cold, they forgot to give us one our drinks, got home and there so much mayonnaise on every burger that we couldn’t even eat them, they ended up in the trash. Never ever going back, it is disgusting! I don’t think there was a grown up supervising all those kids.
Nelly P — Google review
Always, Always check your order in drivethrough, 9 times our of 10 they will have something wrong its so frustrating, more so when you check it quickly (count burgers/chips) then you get home to find the wrong burgers etc. Get yourselves sorted HJ

We've had this Thai many times since moving to the area. The Thai is good value as the meals come with a tub of rice also. We have had stir fries many times and Penang chicken as well as all the entrees. They've all been good so I get suprised to see negative reviews as the food has always been packed with meat, freshly cooked and not oily & we've eaten from here probably 10 times in the last 6 or so months. Sometimes it's just one dish for myself, sometime multiple for my family. I reckon give them a try like I did and make up your own mind. We are yet to try the Chinese dishes they advertise on their door but we will soon..

Highly recommed the pork Pad Thai, the hot Larb salad and their various curries. That said almost every item on the menu is delicious. 👍 Fair prices, good portion sizes to feed a hungry adult, cooked fast and the staff are always friendly. This is the best Thai takeaway I've found on the north side of Cairns.

This restaurant is absolutely amazing ! Not only is the food delicious but the staff are so kind and fabulous. Everytime I come and order I always walk away super impressed by all aspects of this restaurant. I highly recommend you try this restaurant you will not be disappointed and I guarantee this will become your regular Thai restaurant as it has become mine. Thank you Oriental Thai

I got chicken Singapore noodles. Very disappointed. Only about maybe 8-10 tiny bits of chicken - which you pay extra for. Maybe 4 bits of cabbage and rest of vege non- existent. Enough noodle to feed a village. So if you want to pay $14+ for some noodle with sauce, this is the dish for you! I never wanna dis a local. But sick of getting ripped off! Do better.

Red Rooster Raintrees is a popular counter-serve chain known for its delicious roast chicken, burgers, chips, and salads. Located in Cairns City, it offers a convenient dining option among various fast food choices catering to different tastes. The restaurant also provides career opportunities within the broader Craveable Brands family. While some customers have experienced long wait times and difficulties with online ordering, many praise the restaurant for its tasty hot honey chicken and well-maintained premises.
Uhm the food is great and the service is alright, price is good. Therefore a decent place if u want some fast meals. Would recommend

Untrained employees, they don’t know what should have including in a set meal, it needs me to remind twice for what’s right in the box. The staff keep laughing behind the kitchen, the counter say no apologies. Seems no manager at this shop. The fried chickens taste no better than KFC, I will try the roast chicken next time, and hoping for better service.

Pleasantly surprised and impressed Good selection on the menu Meal freshly cooked and hot Restaurant was very clean and lady was polishing the window cills inside - good passion and attention to detail. Can't fault it - well run and managed operation - well done

ABSOLUTELY POOR SERVICE. If I could give zero stars I would. Ordered food and waited over 30 to 40 minutes. There was no mention there would be a wait for food. Ridiculous wait time and service. Not to mention the young girl serving was rude. No smile and when I asked her how much longer she sighed because it was an inconvenience to her me asking. 7 more minutes of waiting. Uber drivers were also waiting a long time too. Red Rooster should be ashamed of themselves.
Gabrielle E — Google review
Advertised as open until 10pm - arrived at drive thru and 8.55pm with a car in front and a car behind. Got told driers were off and everything is shut. This is the third time they have shut before 9pm when the advertised closing time is 10pm. Last week they shut because they were short staffed, this week no reason just because we decided to turn the driers off. If you advertise as open to 10pm 7 days (it's literally written on the drive thru window). Then open until your advertised hours. Strange buisness practice, third time is enough.
John S — Google review
One of the most aggressively bad meals I have ever paid for. Had the cheeseburger. The bun was so stale it fell apart- whilst amusing for fellow diners, it then gave me nothing to hold my barely cooked chicken with. Thankfully the chicken, like the chips, was cold so no risk of damage, and as the last crumbs of bun fell on the table, I abandoned the disaster completely. The table was greasy, the window I was looking at the trash through was shattered. We had to step over rubbish including an empty goon box to get in the store. Staff were polite, and doing their best for a handful of teenagers in a run down store in a questionable neighbourhood. Would absolutely never risk returning to this store.
Vince W — Google review
Nice store, very slow with the service though. Was told 5mins,was nearly 15mins. Roast chicken was nice, but the fried chicken was very oily and didn't taste the freshest. Wouldn't buy again.

Kuranda Koala Gardens is a wildlife park where visitors can interact with koalas and observe various animals such as kangaroos, snakes, lizards, and wombats. The gardens offer the opportunity to hold koalas and learn about their natural habitat. Additionally, there are several dining options available in the vicinity for visitors to enjoy a meal or snack after exploring the wildlife park.
Absolutely phenomenal experience especially for the price. If birds and butterflies interest you, get the package but we just wanted to stick with some Australia basics and were pressed for time. Feeding kangaroos is included in the general admission. That being so low makes it easier to splurge on the koala patting pictures! Worth every penny. Being able to pat the koala was awesome. The staff answered lots of questions and it made me feel so much better to learn that individual koalas only take 30 minutes of pictures a week. And he’s happy and snacking the whole time. All the animals look so well taken care of. Once in a lifetime experience.
Hannah J — Google review
Lots of animals here with a chance to feed kangaroos and wallabies (they prefer to keep to themselves though). My favourite part was the section with the nocturnal animals, especially trying to spot them in the darkened enclosures! I love the owl! 🦉 Students also get a 10% discount
Clare S — Google review
A great animal park! It may be small, but there is a lot of see, and the opportunity to have a photo taken with a koala can’t be beat. The exhibits were all nice and provided a nice place for the animals. The kangaroo feeding area was a lot of fun as well. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and willing to take the time to answer questions.
Crys — Google review
Cool experience to see koalas up close. Definitely buy a ticket in advance as they can sell out easily for the photo session. Relatively small place though and nothing much else to it other than some other species there. Luckily, Kuranda is a nice community with many other things to see and do. I wouldn't go out of my way to come to the Koala Gardens otherwise.
Vinny F — Google review
To be so close to the animals, a great experience! The koalas were cute as 🥰 We got to hand feed kangaroo's! Saw crocodiles for the first time!! There was a cheeky little water dragon cruising around 😆 But it was a little sad to see the animals in small enclosures 🥺
Alecia G — Google review
Good way to see some animals up close and personal. It's a small place so allocate 30 mins to explore unless you pay extra for photos with the koalas, then allocate an hour to wait in line.
Nick D — Google review
This is one of 3 nearby attractions at Karunda, one focused on birds, another on butterflies, and this one on animals, especially koalas. You can get tickets for individual attractions or buy a ticket for all three. If you have to pick just one, I think this is the best, followed by the birds.

This was a super cool addition. The photo with the Koala was good, but felt a little staged. To be honest the highlight was with the Kangaroo. Feeding and petting those little guys was an absolute highlight.

Flea & Street Markets
The Kuranda Original Rainforest Markets are a charming collection of outdoor stalls where locals sell a variety of goods, including crafts, clothing, produce, and homemade items. Established in the 1970s by local bohemians and artists to showcase handmade items and attract visitors to Kuranda, these markets offer a unique shopping experience amid the rainforest. Visitors can explore colorful stalls offering Australian jewelry, indigenous art, opals, paintings, and handcrafted goods.
Kuranda Original Rainforest Market is a must-visit when you're in Far North Queensland! Nestled in the heart of the rainforest, the market offers a unique experience with a mix of handmade crafts, indigenous art, bohemian clothing, crystals, and natural products. Many of the stalls are run by local artisans, and you can feel the creative and laid-back vibe all around. There are also cafes and food stalls offering vegan and vegetarian options, plus a peaceful garden area to relax. Don’t miss the chance to chat with the stall owners—they’re friendly and passionate about what they do. Tips for visiting: Best time to visit is in the morning to avoid crowds and heat. Wear comfy shoes, as the market paths are uneven and a bit hilly. Bring cash—some stalls don't accept cards. Parking is limited near the entrance, but there’s a shuttle bus available from the main Kuranda village area. Great spot for gifts, art, and connecting with local culture!

Meandering through the old markets is wonderful for the soul. There's little twists and turns with something to look at with each one. Absolutely love going there and the food stalls have some of the tastiest, most interesting meals. Definitely well worth a visit for both tourists and locals alike
Yvonne D — Google review
We didn’t have much time to fully experience the market. It was pretty quiet when we visited. Most shops were closed. It seems like a good place to check out local arts and crafts. We stopped by for a quick snack break at the Pho place and got a honeycomb from another shop. We also got to check out the leather goods and opals. People seem friendly and not trying to push sales on us.

A lot of the shops are empty, closed or in need of repairs but it's a very unique vibe with some unique selection. You must try these jam donuts, they were amazing.

Love, love, love this place. The whole town is peaceful, low-key, has a hippie vibe, great juice, lovely little cafes, like a world of it’s own. Nestled in the lush rainforest of Kuranda, Birdworld Kuranda is a haven for bird enthusiasts. With around 60 native and exotic bird species from Australia and beyond, it's a paradise for photographers and nature lovers. The sanctuary boasts over 500 free-flying birds, including vibrant Amazonian macaws, the rare cassowary, rainbow lorikeets, parrots, galahs, and cockatoos.
Fantastic and stunning bird sanctuary. Highly recommend to families, couples and friends. Massive array of bird species ranging from large, colourful and friendly Macaws to smaller species. They even had a cassowary. Most of the birds were very friendly and loved being fed. Staff were very nice and the sanctuary itself was large, vivid and scenic. It made for a really nice walk around, pictures don’t do it justice. Highly recommend. Well done!

Visited May 2025 If you are a senior show your card for a discount on entry. A handout is given which is used to identify the exotic and native birds in the aviary. You are advised to use the tape supplied to cover your earrings as the birds are quick and will remove them from your ears. There was a jar full of single earrings the birds had extracted. And YES the birds do bite! So, if you don't want to be bitten it's as easy as not putting your hand out! I thought this was terrific. So many colourful birds in a huge netted aviaries free to fly. The only birds in an aviary are the tiny finches. The blue macaws are quite happy to sit on your shoulder while you roam around, so do many of the other birds. Staff wander around and are happy to answer questions. The curlews were hand bred and just lie around on the walking paths not taking any notice of the humans. There is a mandarin duck in the enclosure which is so beautiful as well as many other species. You can also see a cassowary up close. I loved this aviary being able to see the birds without any obstructions.

If you like birds, you'll like Birdworld Kuranda. Yes, some of the parrots do talk, some even sing "Old McDonald had a farm"! They'll also happily land on your arm, shoulder or head if you have seeds to offer

My partner and I absolutely loved Birdworld! So many beautiful birds especially the macaws 😍 Majority of the birds are friendly and tame however do watch out for the little red birds as they like to bite 😆 A big thanks to the gentleman who let us in half an hour before closing time, you made our day!

The birds are great. There isn’t much in terms of educational quality to this place though. They give you a printout with some pictures of birds but then you’re in your own. They have food you can feed the birds but there wasn’t instruction for how to do it so I felt like I was always about to be bitten. I would recommend going but if you only have time for a few of the karunda animal attractions this would be the one I suggest skipping.
Christopher L — Google review
The cassowary is sad. I felt so sorry to see him in such a small space, even more so seeing such a lush and beautiful forest around him. I deeply regret paying for this. While it's true that the birds are untethered and can fly within the designated space, this is still a large cage. I promise never to set foot in a place like this again.
Paz R — Google review
Lots of different kinds of birds to see and you're allowed to pet them if they want it. Staff is friendly and helpful
Sarah H — Google review
What a fun experience especially for the kids! The birds are friendly and you can feed them with bird food available to purchase at the entrance. Just be mindful of jewelry and buttons as some birds love them and might snatch them from you. There is a water feature where some birds, ducks and turtles hang out. Overall, its a lovely experience for the whole family.

Kuranda Village

4.3
(1190)
Kuranda Village, nestled in the ancient rainforest, has a rich history of attracting individuals seeking an alternative lifestyle. The village boasts a strong artistic and cultural community that emerged in the 1960s. Access roads built in the 70s opened up this paradise to more people who wanted to experience its laid-back lifestyle while working in Cairns. The hub at Therwine and Coondoo Streets offers a variety of locally-focused retail stores for visitors to explore.
A rare beauty of different markets located throughout the village. Many souvenirs and leather accessories. Also, beautiful cafes inside the local market Famous in North Queensland Markets. Nice and polite people.

Beautiful place in the hills. We caught the Skyrail up. Amazing views. There are markets everyday, but check google to see which days have the heritage markets open. They are very interesting. Good food, cafe, coffee, walks & scenery. The Barron gorge is incredible.

I want to give this a higher rating as I’ve been here numerous times over the years. I feel it’s been impacted by low tourism and the disposable society we’ve become looking for cheap and generic. It’s a beautiful place to visit. Views are incredible. A boost is needed as places like this shouldn’t disappear. Check out Barron Falls.
Evie — Google review
A lovely village in the world heritage listed rainforest out of Cairns. You can drive, take the skyrail or vintage train to kuranda. Lots of interesting little shops to browse, also you can visit Birdworld, the Butterfly Sanctuary and the Koala park. We'll worth a visit.

This really is a 'must do' for visitors to the Cairns area. My 85 year old Mum has mobility issues and gets tired very easily, so we opted to drive ourselves, but we went down to the station for Devonshire tea. There's a lift, so it's accessible. It's like stepping back in time. We all loved it, but Mum especially.!
Wendy R — Google review
Kuranda village has a scenic railway and sky rail. So usually people go one way in each. There will be few hours to spend in the village. There are quite a few activities, food and shopping options in the village. There are activities like butterfly Park, koala park and rainforest park. There is quite a range of food from different cuisine. This village is accessible by road as well, but via road you will miss the awesome rain forest and waterfall views. There are public toilets.
Shishir J — Google review
Nice enough. Really targeting overseas tourists but plenty for everyone. Great places to get a nice meal. Visited and loved the bird enclosure. All in all a great day out.
Wayne T — Google review
This place is not really where you go to see the rainforest. Most of the shops are no different from any other tourist area, and there’s nothing unique to Cairns. Almost every activity costs extra, and the prices are quite high, so I don’t think it’s worth the trip. Even though the weather was beautiful, there was almost no chance to actually enjoy nature, which made it feel like a waste of time.

The Australian Venom Zoo, located in Kuranda, is a unique zoo that showcases some of Australia's most dangerous snakes, spiders, scorpions, lizards, and centipedes. Visitors can join guided tours to learn about the animals' venom potency and natural defense mechanisms. The zoo also offers live venom extractions and snake feeding demonstrations. It's a thrilling experience for those fascinated by creepy crawlies or seeking an adrenaline adventure.
Great experience, many awesome creatures to see, and you even get to hold a snake at the end!
Max B — Google review
Definitely was not worth the money. I saw a total of 5 snakes and two spiders and they all looked to have been not looked after properly. It looked like a run down shed that had a few random bits and pieces thrown in to make it look as though there was maximum effort put in. The reptiles were in the smallest enclosures, they were definitely not fit to be in there. The owner had a bigger ego with tonnes of murals about himself and was obviously not concerned about making the ‘zoo’ look inviting to customers. You could barely see the spiders or scorpions in their tiny enclosures due to there being no light in a dark room.
Lizzie S — Google review
I really enjoyed my trip to the venom zoo. I'm from England and we have absolutely nothing like this. Some of the snakes there were very Interesting and rare. Included with the admission price you get a free photo with a snake. The spiders and scorpions were very cool. Definitely worth $10
Mavis T — Google review
Amazing experience. Staff are so passionate and keen to share what they know. My kids (boy and girl 4&7) loved it! Highlight of the week. Holding and touching snakes plus learning about the scientific research underway was fantastic. Thank you so much!
John J — Google review
It was way too expensive for a disappointing experience. We saw two spiders, some frogs and one scorpion. The snakes are amazing but the enclosures are too small for these magnificent animals. As usual the handlers at this place think that they knew more than anybody else. They give reptile lovers a bad name. I would not recommend it too anyone.
Micky R — Google review
The owner was extremely rude to my 9 yr old nephew who was excited to talk to someone else that loves reptiles, it is a dark and dingy barn with snakes held in enclosures are are far too small and not maintained with snakes shedded skin and poo left in the enclosure for at least the past 24 hours. I wouldn't recommend this as something to visit in Kuranda
Christopher N — Google review
The young curator was nice enough. Then the owner started to openly berate and abuse him in front about 8 of us. Felt for the kid. Owner was incredibly unprofessional and downright abusive. I actually had to tell him to settle down because it was making everyone uncomfortable. He completely ruined our experience
Jayden J — Google review
Rude and arrogant staff members lack knowledge of the reptiles on show enclosures were not clean (snake feces, snake shed). The whole shed smelf of the snake poo. Couldnt even tell that a snake was in the process of shedding ( eyes were cloudy)therefore snake was snappy.several enclosures were way to small for the snake that was in them regardless if it was for demonstration or not. Couldnt even see the turtle that was in a glass enclosure. Would not reccomend that you waste your money on the admission should be closed down

Kewarra Park Shopping Centre is a small but convenient complex with a variety of shops and amenities. The village has an artsy vibe, housing many artists and craftworkers. Visitors can explore locally made sustainable clothing, hand-crafted jewelry, opals, souvenirs, and gifts. After lunch required a toilet, asked the grocer store if I could access the centres communal toilet she said its not for public toilet I said I am aware of that but if I could just borrow your key be much appreciate it. They said no. I went to the takeaway store and ask if I could borrow the bathroom that I believe was just out the door around the corner. He as well said it is not a public toilet. I said whats your problem are you worried about covid. Well takeaway shop if that's your problem no need to worry I am not Vaxed you bacamarol. you won't catch it of me. Absolutely fn backwards.

CHIANGMAI Thai Cuisine in Cairns offers exceptional Thai food at affordable prices. The restaurant is family-run, providing a welcoming atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. Their menu features a variety of delicious dishes made with fresh ingredients, bursting with flavor. Some recommended options include the Thai Crispy Fish and Chicken Panang Curry, both of which are absolutely delightful. Additionally, their papaya salad and green curry are highly praised for their amazing taste.
Hands down the best thai food I have had in a long time! Would recommend this place. We got the pad thai chicken and the Khao Soi Gai Or chicken (which tasted similar to laksa without the seafood taste + slightly sweeter). It is also BYO. We will definitely be back!

We rang our order in and I got my timing wrong. Arrived, paid, popped the containers into a hot/cold bag and started the 30 or so minutes, drive home. On arrival at home, served up, and we enjoyed the meal very much. The servings were so full of flavour that we have left overs for another go around. Cannot recommend these people enough. Fantastic food & service.

As a Thai food connoisseur myself, I’d like to say that this is the best Thai food I’ve had in Cairns. It is very highly rated amongst my group of food influencers friends. I have tried almost half of the dishes on their menu and I really can’t pick a favourite because they all slap so damn hard!! But if you really can’t pick I’d recommend the crying tiger. The tenderness of the meat combined with the complexity of the sauce goes so hard!!!!! It definitely stands up and even beats popular Thai restaurants in Brisbane Gold Coast and Melbourne. If this restaurant ever closes I don’t see a point in coming back to cairns again.

Rainforestation Nature Park is an expansive nature reserve located in the World Heritage Rainforest, offering a variety of distinctive experiences for guests. Visitors can enjoy traditional dance performances showcasing indigenous culture, embark on Army Duck Rainforest Tours, and explore walkways to observe iconic Australian wildlife within the park and its surrounding rainforest.
We did the Koala and Wildlife Park and the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience, but wee unable to get tickets for the Army Duck Tour as we booked fairly last minute and there were a lot of tour groups present. The Wildlife Park was small but nice, and the combination of activities made for a great day out. The Panagirri Aboriginal Experience included demonstrations of didgeridoo playing, spear throwing and some dances, as well as getting a chance to throw a boomerang. All guides were very nice and explained what they were doing, but a bit more history and explanation of why would have been interesting. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area!!
Reuben J — Google review
We went as part of a tour group. It was an overall great experience. Lunch was good and staff were friendly and helpful. Our only complaint was the Koala photo experience was too short and transactional. We paid $41 for a single photo and the entire experience with the koala lasted no more than 10 seconds, just enough for the staff to snap a picture. It may be better if the group can have a closer look at the koala with some commentary? The experience felt too impersonal and only focused on the picture alone. Other than that, it was great. The Army Duck tour guide was educational and funny. We enjoyed it.
Jia Y — Google review
All the three experiences were great. Aboriginal dance, boomerang and their history was the best. It was great to experience the army duck. Animals were great for my kids. You can easily spend a good 4 hours. This place had buffet food which was value for money. The whole place is accessible and with public toilets.

Amazing nature conserve and education centre, we visited as part of a tour and after 5 hours wished we had more time still. Great aboriginal demonstrations and very accessible viewing of the animals of Australia. We had an awesome guide for the DUKW tour who gave us loads of information on many indigenous plants on the tour. After all that we wandered around to read the information signs for the many trees and plants they have there. We really enjoyed our visit there.
Alan M — Google review
Food at the buffet was delicious with many good options. We really enjoyed seeing koalas, crocodiles and kangaroos and could tell that they were well cared for. Every staff member we encountered at the park was polite and helpful. The Aboriginal dance performance was wonderful and the performers were very friendly. They even taught us how to throw a boomerang, which was a memorable experience. The army duck tour was both fun and informative. We learned about the different plants in the rainforest. Our driver, Rhys (if I remember his name correctly), was fantastic! His sense of humor and commentary made the drive engaging. He shared many interesting facts, which made our experience even better. We will be coming back!

We visited recently as a family of 3 (2 adults and a 3 year old). The Army Duck tour through the rainforest was a highlight of our trip to QLD. Jared our tour guide was extremely informative, and my husband and I walked away with so much knowledge on the local plants and wildlife! I wish the trip was longer as we enjoyed it so much. We look forward to coming back the next time we travel up to QLD.

Henry Ross Lookout is a must-visit spot on the way to Kuranda, offering stunning views of Cairns and the coast. Located at the highest point of the Kuranda Range, it provides panoramic vistas of the Cairns skyline, Coral Sea, and Green Island on clear days. While it can be a bit tricky to access due to its location on the right-hand side of the road, taking a few extra minutes for this stop is definitely worth it.
Great view, a must do for anyone visiting Cairns. It's free and it has a bin. I was upset to see rubbish around the area however I was informed of a recent landslide that took the bin. So I can't fault them for the enormous task of cleaning after a cyclone. Very happy to see this

Great place to stop on the way to Kuranda to view Cairns and the coast. It can be a little tricky turning in going up the mountain as it is on the right hand side of the road, so take care and make sure you take the first entrance. Same when exiting, take care. Definitely a great view.
Anne V — Google review
Definitely a top spot to look down to the tropical paradise that is Cairns. Look over the Northern edge of Cairns City to glimpses of Trinity Beach and Yorkeys Knob. Across rainforest, over Smithfield, canefields, jumbo jets of eager tourists flying in to exotic sandy beaches opening on to the pleasure of cruisers enjoying the Great Barrier Reef. Unfortunately it is the major attraction the lush rainforest trees themselves that lets you down. Basically you cannot see a lot of the view for the trees. Parking is very limited and re-entering traffic is really running the gauntlet, quite risky. Renewal and reinvention and a good re-think of this unique, gorgeous but increasingly inaccessible site should be demanded by the people of Cairns who hold Henry Ross Lookout in a special place in their hearts.

We had dinner at this place, and a heavy part of the fan fell directly on my son’s head. Shockingly, no one from the management came out to help us or check if my son was okay. One of the staff members told us they had asked the managers to fix the issue several times, but the managers said they were busy training new staff and that it wasn’t their responsibility. This place is not safe, and the staff are extremely careless. Update When we asked for the CCTV, your manager “Alicia” said your solicitor will have to request it so I won’t provide you my contact information and you WILL hear from our solicitor. I also have a recording of your staff member saying that they requested this fan to be fixed several times and the management never did it and another recording of your manager saying she couldn’t come to check up on my son as she was busy training two new staff members.

It is creatively housed in three converted World War 2 naval oil storage tanks within the lush rainforest backdrop of the Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct. The center hosts a variety of events including concerts, kids' theater, rotating art exhibitions, and community gatherings. It serves as a platform for music, performance, theatre, and visual arts while also engaging with local communities to promote cultural ideas.
A nice place to go for a walk. The idea of how to use the tanks nowadays is pretty amazing. It gives a nice atmosphere! Also the surrounding area is quite cool. I recommend combining it with a walk through the botanic gardens which are just fantastic.

Great space for Events....we've just held our Australian Watercolour Muster Biennale 2025 Workshops in Tank 3 and have to say thanks to the Team from The Tanks Arts Centre for their support and help!! Artists from all over the world enjoyed the workshops.. the vibe and amazing opportunities to network and share inspiration...bring on 2027 😅

Excellent large art space for creative workshops and with a gallery space. Situated in the beautiful Botanical Gardens. Great facilities including cafe and amenities. Easy to get there by bus or car.

What a great space adjacent to the gardens and nature preserve to get your ART on! The repurposed "tanks" are especially cool and the space has a very chill vibe to it.

I’ve attended a few live music events in Tank 5, and they were absolutely amazing—couldn’t recommend it enough. The atmosphere is always vibrant and welcoming, and even when I attend solo, I never feel out of place. I’ve also visited a couple of art gallery events in Tank 4, which I really enjoyed, especially when they showcase local artists and artwork inspired by the natural beauty of the region.

Very unique funky venues. Great to perform in and attend as audience. Nowhere else has the beautiful ambience that the Tanks offer inside and out. Cairns gem!

Cable Ski Cairns is a beloved destination for local children in Edmonton, offering a refreshing escape on scorching days. While it may not rival the Gold Coast, the park features entertaining water slides that make it a hit among young visitors seeking aquatic thrills.
I am a local pick here and it is a great place every day I'm there there is always a smile on everyone's face and lafter everywhere

Booked to take my 2 boys to the Barra part of the park. Got there, all rods were broken and I ended up fixing three so we could do it. The attended was a young girl with no idea what to do (she literally said that to us) Spoke to guy at the counter and he offered the Aqua park for a bit. Got down there, he radio’s the operator there and said just let them go as they’re complaining.. the operator was polite and apologised for what the guy said. Place seems a bit dodgy

Cairns Wake Park is a lively destination that offers a variety of water activities suitable for all ages. Visitors can enjoy waterskiing, kneeboarding, and wakeboarding in the man-made freshwater lake. The park provides beginner equipment and also hosts kids club sessions during school holidays. Additionally, it features floating slides, trampolines, and challenging obstacles for an exciting experience.
It was a fantastic experience for a first-timer. My husband purchased the two-hour session. After a brief safety video, the first-timer is required to successfully kneeboard around the course, avoiding all the ramps. This took at least an hour to learn and required considerable upper body strength. After switching boards, Sam assisted by placing the board in the water until the standing position was mastered. Sam was very encouraging and invested as an instructor. Although my husband didn't manage to complete the course while standing, I highly recommend this experience. We also purchased the delicious chili nachos from John at the snack bar. We highly recommend this as well.

Really great experience here with a somewhat challenging group! The staff were all very friendly and clearly enjoyed their work. The coaches were patient and helpful for our group of English language learners. Even the locals were friendly, encouraging, and helpful with us. They definitely have a good community going! They were also accommodating as we changed our sessions and session lengths multiple times. The prices are reasonable (almost cheap!) compared to other similar activities.

tl;dr unwelcoming, hidden costs, do not recommend My friend and I are moderately experienced boat wakeboarders, but it was our first time trying cable. We booked a 2 hour pass on advance, and were told to come whenever we liked. Upon arrival, we were flat out ignored by the staff for about 10 minutes. Eventually, once we were acknowledged, we were shown a short safety video which did little to explain anything. We were then given a life jacket and helmet, but were not told anything about where to find the rental boards. We looked around for a bit and eventually found them. They were pretty much just planks, and did not even have bindings meaning there were difficult to stay in. Additionally, we were informed that we were not allowed to try the obstacles, as we did not pay extra to rent a "pro board". This meant that we were constrained to get dragged around on flat water for 2 whole hours. To add to this, when we asked if we could ride doubles (a very common request, and there were many others doing it), we were denied as it is a feature reserved for members only. That brings me to my final qualm. We were the only non members, and most of the members were aggressively unfriendly, often cutting in line and being generally disrespectful. A member took the handle I had in my hands off me, as he wanted to go right then. Many other young kids were pulling downright dangerous moves, jumping in the water right in front of the starting dock as I was about to go. The cable operator did nothing to discourage this, and all the parents of the young kids were drinking by the clubhouse. I was really looking forward to trying cable wakeboarding, but was thoroughly disappointed. I strongly advise against going to Cairns Wake Park. It was a bad experience and not worth the money.
Joel O — Google review
Really enjoyable experience. Short briefing video and set up with helmet and lifejacket then your free to get on the cables. Start with 1 lap on a kneel board to show competence then free to use on of their wakeboards. Cable operator was really friendly and willing to offer useful advice on how to improve. Vibes of the place were great with all staff and other visitors being super chill and friendly. Price of the session was also very reasonable at $60 for a 2hr session.

We had my grandson's birthday party there. Such a lot of fun for the kids with all the inflatable play equipment. My only complaint would be that there were a lot of kids parties and way too many children for the amount of supervisors. As much as we tried to watch our kids constantly it's not possible without help to be across the whole area they cover. A beautiful day all in all
Anne W — Google review
Had an amazing time here on my birthday and was happy with the amount of time we got for how much it cost! I would have appreciated a little more help around starting as it was my first time and I had no idea what I was getting into. Fortunately I love board sports so got the hang of it after a 3rd attempt but the people I went with struggle the whole 2hr so more teaching would have been nice! Otherwise, I had a great time and would highly recommend it ✌️

The price is rather cheap, especially if you manage to catch a deal via bookme.com.au outside peak hours. They have many interesting obstacles. The park is well maintained. The staff was very helpful. The rental stuff was in decent shape and it matched my size rather well.

A bit of a pokey array of local shops. But has a few takeaway outlets that are convenient. Gets a fair amount of trade as the parking areas are generally about 80% full.

Fast food restaurant
If you're in Smithfield, QLD, and looking for a quick meal solution, Domino's Pizza is a fantastic option. This popular delivery and carryout chain offers an extensive menu featuring not just pizzas but also a variety of other dishes and sides to satisfy your cravings. Many patrons find it to be the perfect spot for those evenings when cooking feels like too much effort. The new Italian flavors have garnered attention, with the carbonara being a standout favorite among customers.
The best pizza we have had from this store, the staff were very accomodating as I order the pizza for 4.45 but arrived at the store at 4.25 and they made it for me straight away and it was deliciously👏👏
June B — Google review
I generally use this place to have a quick meal when I'm too tired to cook. The pizzas are ok, I particularly like the new Italian flavours. The carbonara is my favourite among all. Sure is far from being like an Italian pizza but it still enjoyable 😋 The service is reasonably fast almost all the time. They have lots of different deals too, which is always a good thing 👌😁

Don't order from this place. I thought I'd give this another try, but never in my life did I pay nearly $40 for something this disgusting. Stay away..
Dutch D — Google review
The pizza were terrible the guy turns up says I was in such a rush I forgot your drink - the pizzas are soggy nothing thin and crispy all thin and soggy - the meal is inedible - the only thing you could eat was the garlic bread and the cheese pizza - they clearly needed to be cooked longer -or maybe we should have been the last in a long line of deliveries - who knows -it was rubbish took a bite has to d own out but out / domino’s Smithfield ID 80 I wonder if he’ll come back with the drink ?

Greasy pizzas, food prep bench cleaned with a rag that used to be green in colour but is now black with grease and dirt. Just disgusting

AVOID THIS STORE! Pizza & orders are consistency late, cold, damaged, unpresentable & the customer service is non existent. Store manager lacks experience, communication skills & is full of excuses. Can’t wait until the new Pizza Hut & competing business open across the road from this store.
Tony F — Google review
Would give a zero if I could. Took 1 and a half hours on hold to be told 3 different answers every time I gave up and rung again. Took 2 and a half hours to get pizza from initial order and had to pay more because I canceled origenal order and they couldnt match the online deal over the phone even after this terrible service. Not only this delivery was also 15 minutes later than I was told in final phone call
Jamie M — Google review
Food was so burnt. I had to scrape the burnt bits off the garlic bread just so it was edible. My son who is vegetarian found a piece of meat on his cheese pizza. Very disappointed.

Conveyor belt sushi restaurant
Sushi Train Smithfield is a delightful dining experience that features an impressive array of sushi and sashimi served on a conveyor belt, alongside hot Japanese dishes. This beloved spot has been a favorite since its inception, particularly in the Cairns area. The menu boasts exciting new additions, including 23 vegetarian options, ensuring there's something for everyone.
Nothing to complain about here. Food was available instantly, it was good and not expensive. I went by myself so they literally stuck me in a corner where the conveyor belt made a 180 degree turn. I took what I wanted, ordered a drink and started eating. The food seemed fine, I had no problems with its taste or freshness. I was especially happy to get some good tekka maki

Sushi train is always good. Foods are amazing and staff are friendly. No bad comments at all. And I saw there is a special prosciutto and melon sushi it was quite eye catching!
Isabella N — Google review
This has been my favourite Sushi Train, ever since it was first built. And currently my equal favourite sushi place in the Cairns area. It's lovely to see so many new additions to the menu, including a whopping 23 items in the vegetarian section. I had an old favourite, the Semi-Dried Tomato & Avocado Roll, along with two things new to me, Asparagus Rolls and a Healthy Kinoko Ship, which is Enoki mushrooms on top of a roll wrapped with a cucumber strip. Mmmm, lovely. I don't know if I'm a fan of the new QR code & order on your phone system, as opposed to the previous touchscreen menu, but I suppose it has some up sides, including me being able to bring the menu up on my phone, after the fact, for reference. I didn't use any soy sauce, but the website indicates they have the option for a gluten free sauce. It's not on the menu anywhere, so I guess you have to ask.
Lucee R — Google review
Loved the food, service was fast and easy but the atmosphere could do with some little updates and I did find it a little dark in there. The lighting was fine, it might have been from dark decor.
Rachel W — Google review
This sushi restaurant is great, from the huge variety of food to the calming atmosphere from the lights and music. The service is good from the servers to the train of sushi. Overall, it is great to eat at; however, there are sometimes that are busy, so you'll have to wait.

Great shopping centre with all you need. Two big supermarkets. Coles and Woolworths. Kmart. Lots of clothes shops. There are opticians, phone shops, cafes and restaurants, butchers, jewellers, discount shop, hairdresser barber and beauty shops, chemists, post office, banks and other speciality shops. Small playground outside. Plenty of parking but it does get very busy at times. Event cinema next door.
