Uyuni in 3 days

If you only have 3 days to spend in Uyuni, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Uyuni is best known as the gateway to Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, where vast white plains create striking mirror-like reflections in the rainy season. The surrounding area features colorful high-altitude lagoons, geysers, and other Andean landscapes inhabited by flamingos and llamas. Many multi-day tours also include stays in salt-built hotels and visits to the historic Uyuni train cemetery. The town itself serves as a practical base for excursions, with basic services and simple accommodations.
With favorites like Eduardo Avaroa national park sales, Minimarket Valeria, and Todo Turismo S.R.L., we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Tonito Hotel and Tacuru so you can get the best taste of Uyuni while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Located on the outskirts of Uyuni, Bolivia, the Train Cemetery is a unique desert attraction where visitors can explore the ruins of numerous vintage train cars. This unusual rust cemetery has been transformed into a ghostly train station at an altitude of over 3,000 meters. Once a bustling hub for mineral transportation along the railway line connecting Bolivia to Chile and Argentina, it now stands as a captivating historical site.
A must visit when in Uyuni - a collection of old, rusting locomotives that you can walk around, climb up and down, and inspect - really interesting to see. Some of the locomotives have also been converted to swings! The main region has several locomotives, but beyond this there is another area at least as big (if not bigger) that has dumped train carriages (although not technically part of the “train cemetery” attraction. As this is a popular spot with many tour companies including this as a stop before/after visiting the salt flats, it can be very busy, but their timetables seem to coincide so if you wait a little bit you can have the whole place to yourself!
Mert K — Google review
Cool place to visit. Went as part of a tour through to the Salt Flats, this was a neat start. Super busy though as every other tour arrives, imagine at sunrise or sunset it’d produce stunning photography. Time it right and you can pull off some pretty epic poses though :)
NZ R — Google review
We loved it here. The kids could have silent hours exploring and climbing on the trains. It gets busy at your times but we still got to see and explore everywhere. Close enough to Uyuni town to go without a tour.
Our F — Google review
The Train Cemetery in Uyuni, Bolivia, is an interesting place to visit. The old trains are rusty and give the area a mysterious feeling. It’s not very big, but it’s fun to walk around and take pictures. You can see a bit of history and enjoy the quiet desert around. It’s a nice stop if you’re already visiting the Uyuni Salt Flats.
Aymen C — Google review
This attraction is exactly what it says - a graveyard for old rusting train wrecks. It's interesting enough because of the different types of trains and the shapes and patterns on them. It also has no admission fee. It was, however, completely overrun with people climbing all over them in search of the perfect Instashot. It may be quieter in the afternoon once all the tour vans depart for the Solar. There is also a small seperate area showcasing transformer type sculptures, which is interesting in its own right. There are a handful of vendors and a paid bathroom, which is handy.
Phil M — Google review
Imagine Mad Max and Thomas the Tank Engine had a really weird breakup. That’s the Train Graveyard in Uyuni. Located just 3 km outside town, this post-apocalyptic playground of rusted locomotives is the final resting place of Bolivia’s railway dreams… and Instagram’s gritty best friend. Historical stat break: - Trains date back to the late 1800s, imported from Britain during Bolivia’s short-lived railway boom. - The dream? Connect Uyuni to the Pacific. - The reality? Mining collapse in the 1940s left these metal beasts to rot in the salt and wind. - Altitude: 3,656 m above sea level - Entry fee: Free, because nothing says “abandoned dream” like open access. The site stretches across a vast salt-flat edge, where iron giants lie dismembered, tattooed with graffiti, and slowly dissolving into dust. Some carriages are welded into makeshift jungle gyms. Health and safety? Never heard of her. Tour groups roll in daily, snapping “edgy” photos on top of train roofs while dodging tetanus. Meanwhile, local kids treat it like a desert skate park. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ +1 for post-industrial vibes +1 for raw, surreal scenery –1 if you hate sand, rust, or the smell of historical abandonment +1 if you’re into ghost towns, steampunk dreams, or locomotives that gave up
The G — Google review
Not really my thing, go there if you really like old trains, it was windy and there were a lot of sands in the air I really liked the recycling work in the form of transformers , was a great art to see
Ahmad M — Google review
Whilst it is absolutely worth a visit, there is very little information about the type of locomotives or engines. I believe most of them were British made. It is must see feature in all trip from Uyuni to the salt flats and a nice place to soak up the atmosphere and remoteness of the Andean plains rather than a tourist hotspot. It is very crowded during the late morning onwards. I have heard the vision is more magical during sunset and sunrise times. There are no entry tickets.

Minuteman Pizza in Uyuni is a must-visit for those craving mouth-watering, dough-based delicacies after a day of adventure. The pizzeria takes pride in the quality of its food and offers delicious options like pesto, cheesy garlic bread, create-your-own pizzas with gourmet toppings, and rich chocolate cake. Additionally, they serve breakfast items such as waffles with blueberry jam and homemade bread. The restaurant also caters to vegan and vegetarian preferences.
This spot came highly recommended by our tour guide and traveling companions. Bartender spoke English and was able to give great recommendations for wine which was much needed after a long journey. A good place to rest and recharge before tackling the outdoors again especially in the cold! Only downside was that we stayed a few blocks away and got hungry before we reached. Street food in Uyuni was good too!
Phang M — Google review
I'm sorry I have to score 1 star as my experience was not good from the moment I approached the serving counter, the lady was so unhappy and unhelpful. they operate a pay per item system, so if you ask for a beer while browsing the menu, they want paid there and then! everything is self service, you have to pick up the grubby worn out plastic menu book yourself, then go back to the counter to order, and pay there and then. they offer draft craft beer, which is served in frozen glasses, which completely kills the flavour,.I was looking forward to the craft beer, but couldn't drink any for this reason. the pizzas were served quickly and were very good, but a large noisy group of young backpackers arrived, and they were all of a sudden plugging in their phones to every available outlet for charging, and it seemed that the other dinners were all doing the same! overall a good pizza , but completely let down by staff and atmosphere
John Y — Google review
An amazing pizzeria in a small town. It took us by surprise. The choice if toppings was great, more like toppings you see in pizzeria in Europe. They came out so fast too. They are on the pricer end for Bolvia, but we'll worth it. The large pizzia is almost to large and the small too small. So would recommend coming hungry.
Jessica M — Google review
Delicious thin crust traditional oven baked pizza! We ordered two small pizzas which weren’t so small after all, and it was sufficient for us. We really liked the Works pizza, which was so well balanced in flavor and loaded with yummy ingredients while Spicy Llama was more for a novelty factor, where the gamier llama meat is balanced by a piquant picante chili sauce that resembles pesto. The owner speaks English so we were very well taken care of and my friend left with a bottle of local wine too.

Better-than-expected pizza in a “youth hostel” restaurant -20.465280°, -66.825200° Minuteman Revolutionary Pizza, located in the Toñito Hotel, is a popular eatery among travellers exploring the salt flats of Uyuni. Founded by UMass Amherst alumnus Chris Sarage and his Bolivian wife, Sussy Duran, the restaurant has attracted attention for its unique offerings and welcoming atmosphere. Syssy's family runs the Toñito hotel. Guests are often full of praise for the delicious wood-fired oven pizzas, pointing out the generous toppings and flavourful crusts and the many options, including vegan and gluten-free pizzas. We appreciated the cosy and welcoming ‘youth hostel’ environment, making it a good place to wait for our night bus. We broke our rule to try only local dishes during our trips. In April 2025, we ordered the pesto prímavera pizza with pesto base, spinach, onions, roasted peppers and sun-dried tomatoes (large 120Bs, small 70Bs). We had to wait a while, but when our number came, we were looking at a proper pizza. Not the North American variety with the cardboard bottom and imitation cheese, but flavourful crust with tasty pesto topping. This pizza was not far from its Italian origins, but not close either. Good to see Americans baking proper pizza. We enjoyed the pizza with a glass of blonde ale (30Bs). Cash only. Minuteman Revolutionary Pizza offers better-than-expected pizza in a “youth hostel” restaurant. Recommended.

Minuteman Pizza was recommended by our tour operator, so we decided to chance it and walk in. It was busy but they were able to seat the 5 of us. So glad we chanced it! The pizza was absolutely delicious, stone-baked to perfection with a crisp crust. I had the Pesto Primavera which had plentiful toppings, fresh and delicious. Service was quick and efficient, even with the crowd, and the spicy basil sauce on the table was a great touch. They had an amazing selection of weet treats on offer too. I didn’t take any but my friend had the carrot cake cookie which she raved about. If you’re craving excellent pizza in Uyuni, definitely go here.
Laura B — Google review
We were recommended this by a mate who had been there last week and said it was the best pizza in his life! It lived up to the expectation, with perfect crust thickness and fresh toppings. Beer and home made lemonade were also great and I can’t fail to add the tasty cookie for desert. Everyone there is warm and welcoming! Great place to debrief the salt flats with your group or fill up on tasty food the night before

A few years ago me and my friend went here for a quick pizza after a few days on the salt flats to finish our Uyini trip. This was exactly what we needed. Huge tasty pizzas that we enjoyed greatly. My friend, who is a die-hard foodie and traveller, called it the best pizza he had outside of Italy. Do yourself a favour and visit this amazing treasure of Uyuni!

Pakuchi is a bustling park in Uyuni, known for its array of restaurants, tour shops, and vendors. It's considered the central shopping district of the area and offers plenty of outdoor seating where visitors can relax and people-watch in the shaded areas. It's a great spot to explore during the afternoon, offering a leisurely walk with opportunities to discover unique items.
Really nice place. The people who run this place are so nice, very friendly, and kind people. Price is great, room is comfortable. Cannot ask for much more.

Too much noise because of the open restaurant at the 3rd floor. The ladies with radio at 6:15, before breakfast.....
Marc B — Google review
Yes the place is oldish and boheme-style but I found it an excellent price-quality ratio for the 120 BOB I paid mid March for a PRIVATE room with PRIVATE shower-room. The queen bed was very comfy with enough blankets, I always had hot water (open shower so use your flip-flops), I found soap, shampoo, toilet paper and towel. Sharon was always available, gave me a hair-dryer and hot water with cup in the morning, so I had my own breakfast just in front of my room (there’s a couch with low table). She also kept my luggage for free during my trip to the salar. Nights were always quiet, location is very central on the pedestrian street. Would stay there again.

Small plaza in Uyuni. There are many restaurants and a few stores that provide tourists with a good selection of dishes to eat after spending most of the day at the Salt Flats. We enjoyed the pizza in a couple of places and some tradicional Bolivian dishes.
Rene B — Google review
You can't sit or relax here, every minute someone someone will ask you for money or offer some tour around Uyuni. Don't eat in the restaurants around the plaza because they cost 3 times the original price. Take pictures and continue your travel...
Lola C — Google review
Yes I would stay here again, but only if I was on a tight budget. The lady at reception was very nice. The place was clean and tidy. There are no frills here. The WiFi worked, but was about 1.5Mbs with limited room reception. The bed was comfortable, and linnins clean and appropriate for the climate. My shower was kind of warm at first, just long enough to step in and start to soap up, but turned cold fast and made for a hasty exit. Not much atmosphere for hanging out.
Charles K — Google review
Basic hostel but very well situated. The rooms and toilets are clean...The hostel is in hand of a very sympathic family. Breakfast is good. It consists of 2 Bolivian breads with butter and marmalade + fried egg + fresh fruit juice + 1 or 2 cups of coffee or tee. You got the key of your room but not the main entry one's. They watch the entrance 24h....but it happens to me to find the entry closed and I had to wait 1 hour before they came back...Just sit on the nearby street banks and relax... WiFi is very good. When it rains heavyly, some drops of water falls from the roof in the lobby but the rest of the hotel and specialy the rooms are safe...
Francis C — Google review
We stayed just one night there (wanted to stay to but we run away from this place). The receptionist was realu rude and lied to us few times. She agreed for early check it but the next day requested to pay for extra night. We refuse of course and she started shouting at US and saying that our english is poor so we do not understand her! She definately ruined our time there. There are hot showers and wifi. Basic breakfast.

A hidden gem in Uyuni. A chill little cafe that actually serves great coffee and not the instant stuff. Our waiter Elvis was very cool and informative and made the place even better. He explained why it is so hard to find a good coffee there. We crushed the falafel burgers that hit the spot and I finally enjoyed a cappuccino. Thanks Elvis, a pleasure meeting you.

A hidden gem in Uyuni! The cappuccinos were delicious and the scrambled egg was a delicious huge portion. They have games like uno to play and a nice seating area with lots of natural light. The staff were very friendly and spoke to us in English and made us feel very welcome! Highly recommend!

Such a great find after being disappointed by breakfast in another restaurant. Reasonably priced, delicious plant based food. Also had a very nice cappuccino to go along with it. The staff are very friendly and can speak English as well as Spanish. Will be returning for every meal while I'm in Uyuni ☺️

I had a great time chatting and chilling here! Owner is very friendly and shares about Bolivia. The cafe serves good coffee and food! Despite the name they serves vegetarian food.

Coffee was ok minus, but the service was the worst. The waiter was super rude. Asked for the menu he told me "it's over there" Wanted to ask if they can bring my bottle of water I asked for 10 minutes before, and he shushed me twice before even listening. Asked for gluten free options, he told me they have only one now, but still it had gluten! Came because of the positive reviews, but was super disappointed

Tonito Hotel is a charming and welcoming accommodation in Uyuni, Bolivia. The hotel, run by a friendly North American owner, offers well-decorated rooms with plenty of natural light and strong WiFi. Guests can enjoy a complimentary high-quality breakfast featuring organic food. The on-site restaurant is known for its tasty pizzas with traditional and creative toppings, along with Bolivian craft beers and wines.
Excellent!!! Everything our group of 40 cyclists needed after coming off the salt flats was right here - secure garage, in-house laundry service, hot showers, wifi, and cozy rooms. Plenty of attractive common areas, nooks, and a sunny patio, all with elegant propane tower heaters, just a block off the main plaza. Uyuni’s top-rated Minuteman Pizza is onsite and the same chef prepares the included breakfast buffet, all homemade and artfully presented. Specialty coffees, sodas, beer, and wine by the glass are available all day. The owners, Chris and Suzi, exemplify the warmth that draws travelers to South America. Toñito is filled with stickers and club logos, license plates, and mementos of the many adventurers who enjoyed this relaxing oasis in the salt flats.

Very delicious breakfast and also loved the pizzas for dinner! I highly recommend this hotel!

Old but good. Interesting mix of of furniture and design but all very clean. Limited secure parking space, good WiFi and hot showers. But the key reason to stay here is the food. Great pizza place on-site and exceptional breakfast.

Outstanding service! After traveling through the salt flats for a couple days, this was a paradise. Our room was on the main level, we were nervous but the noise was minimal. Suize kept us in a 3 person room even though we were 2, and gave us the 2 person price. The attention to detail in the room was what you would expect from home. The beds were comfortable. There was tons of space. Extra blankets. Plastic cups in the bathroom. Great soaps in the shower. Just little fine tunes we had not seen anywhere else in Bolivia. The service is fantastic. You can tell their friendly welcome is one they are known for, by their repeat guests they have boasting their service. The Minute Man Pizza restaurant is wonderful. Their pizza was wonderful. Their wine was wonderful. The breakfast in the morning was the best breakfast I have ever eaten. Chris sure knows how to bake! Everything is home made and fresh. Its the attention to detail and service that this hotel stays in my memory as the best place I stayed in Bolivia, and probably in all of South America. Thank you Suzie and Chris!

Great experience having a bite and waiting for our bus. Atmosphere and warmth are great. Ordered the house pizza with lama as suggested by other reviews and it was good (easily modified a bit too, recommend with eggplant instead of ham). Fries are also great quality. We didn’t have to wait long as other reviews said, maybe 20mins. Also has wifi which makes waiting better.
Marc — Google review
Too expensive for what you get. The food was alright, the fried eggplant was quite nice but a really small portion, the spaghetti pesto tasted a bit weird. The prices are high for Bolivian standards and the quality of the food. There are better abd cheaper restaurants around.
Manuel K — Google review
I went here twice. I enjoyed both the quinoa with vegetables and the llama ribs (a bit spicy). The atmosphere is nice. My only advice is to clean the tables between customers, there were some leftovers on the table.
Maria I — Google review
This place is a total scam. They gave me a menu that with a price list where the value is deliberately smeared as to suggest a lower amount. Then when you pay- guess what! They now have a menu where all the prices are perfectly legible. Oldest trick in the book and they know exactly what they’re doing.
Ashley B — Google review
The ambiance is nice and tastefully decorated, with a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, there were several issues that affected the experience: I ordered the eggplant with fries (52 bob) – the fries were undercooked in parts, even though I had specifically asked for them to be extra crispy, and the eggplant was raw and hard on the inside. While I was still eating, furniture from outside was being brought in, and the door was left open, making the dining area uncomfortably cold. That’s not what I’d call a pleasant atmosphere. When I wanted to pay, no one was around. I had to go to the counter, grab a menu, calculate the total myself – only then did someone come.
Max M — Google review
I should have trusted the bad rating. Service was inefficient, I had to go to the waiter to order, when I asked for cheese she didn’t get me some and I also had to go to her to pay. But the worst was the pasta, they were really bad (among the worst I had in my life) and I expensive. The cafe was ok. The only nice thing was to sit in the sun.
Margaux P — Google review
This place is overpriced. I ordered soup that came in a tiny plate with no croutons or any bread! The only positive things - it was warm inside.

This place has the best pizza. They also are happy to accommodate changing some things. Eg I changed the cheese for pesto. We ate here 3 times the best pizza we’ve had in awhile.

The Lithium Club, which serves international dishes like charque de llama (llama jerky) and pailita de llama (llama stew), is a good option for those looking for something different in Uyuni. While the food is good, it's not particularly satisfying.
The food was well presented and tasted lovely. Good selection of dishes. Nice atmosphere and they put the heater on for us as it was cold.

I got the Pailleta de llama, and also all my friends ordered it and we all got sick the next day throwing up and getting full body aches. I wouldn’t recommend eating here.
Ronald S — Google review
Staff was friendly but my husband ordered a llama burger and I ordered a beef burger and both came back with raw bits. We asked if they could be cooked a little longer and they came back again still undercooked. Talked to the cook and she said the burgers are mixed with pork (not specified on the menu) and that the pork probably did not cook as fast as the other meat but did not offer any solution. We didn’t eat the meal and were still charged and not offered any alternative. Unfortunately not a great experience. ☹️

We ended up here while walking on the street, as the place had good vibes and looked neat. Super kind waitress, very nice food!
Mercédesz P — Google review
The food is highly overpriced and terrible! They don’t have the slightest idea on how to make a pasta carbonara. Their “lomo montado” was a thin slice of meat, far from what a lomo should be. Their hamburger was so tasteless and it didn’t sit well that it costs 40 bolivianos, 80 bolivianos for each, the lomo dish and the pasta carbonara. Quite a rip off. Service was good but it didn’t make up for the terrible experience. Don’t go there it’s not worth it….

The Uyuni Salt Flats, also known as Salar de Uyuni, is a breathtaking natural wonder located eight hours south of La Paz. It is the largest salt flat in the world, spanning over 4000 miles and holding more than half of the planet's lithium reserves. The landscape features stunning rock formations, cacti-dotted islands, a train cemetery, colorful lakes with flamingos, and roaming llamas.
We absolutely loved this place, it was magical. But if you plan to go, please fry to Uyuni, as bus ride from La Paz can be a bit dangerous.

The Uyuni Salt Flats are one of the most surreal and awe-inspiring places I’ve ever visited. Stretching endlessly in every direction, the vast white landscape feels like another planet. Whether you’re taking perspective photos, watching the sun rise, or standing in the middle of the flats with nothing but silence around you; it’s a truly magical experience. We did a three-day tour that ended in Chile, which I’d highly recommend if you’re planning a visit. The changing landscapes, colourful lagoons, flamingos, and geothermal activity along the way made it a trip I’ll never forget. Absolutely worth the journey. Bolivia’s salt flats are like nowhere else on Earth.

Salt flats in Bolivia are one of the most impressive sites I've seen, and although the altitude sickness is pretty tough (we flew straight in from sea level to 3,600 meters above sea level), it was definitely worth it!

Very cool place to visit for sunset, sunrise or picnic lunch or southern hemisphere night sky star viewing. 150km x 50km. Bring hat and sunscreen. Best to go with guide. Islands cool to visit, hiking, cactus etc. Surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. Dry season best as less tourists and still many wet areas for photos. Respect the area and don’t destroy it like tourists from some countries. Short flight from La Paz on Amaszonas or BoA. Recommended.

I arrived in Uyuni at night and at my hostel, I booked my day tour then which cost $25 dollars. It included train cemetery, salt flats, lunch, photos etc.it was cheaper for me to do it in Spanish and the English tours cost a lot more. To be honest, I felt the tours gave you the basic information that you get in the brochure or google it

When planning a trip to the stunning salt flats of Uyuni, it's essential to consider your travel options. One route involves taking a bus from La Paz to Oruro and then hopping on a train to reach Uyuni. However, this journey may not be the most efficient choice if your primary goal is simply to explore the salt flats. The multiple transfers and longer travel time make it less appealing compared to more direct alternatives like a bus or flight straight to Uyuni.

Travel agency
Todo Turismo S.R.L. stands out as a premier bus company, offering an exceptional travel experience for those journeying between La Paz and Uyuni. With one-way tickets priced at Bs 230 ($33), passengers can enjoy lie-flat seats that recline significantly for a restful night's sleep, complete with cozy blankets and pillows. The onboard service is truly remarkable; travelers are treated to a delightful dinner featuring options like veggie croquettes alongside hot drinks and chocolate bars, followed by breakfast in the morning.
Went from Uyuni to La Paz in the overnight bus. Price was $39 USD. They serve a hot dinner and a cold breakfast. Left Uyuni at 9pm arrived in La paz around 5-6am. Stops once along the way to change drivers, and then at La Paz airport, and final stop at the downtown main bus station. Seats were very comfortable, reclines a lot (not fully 180 degrees). Blanket and pillow also provided, and a bottle of 500ml water. The WiFi was very bad and rarely worked for me. The charging outlets are the regular USB, not the newer USB-C. Dinner is served on the bus before departing so need to arrive about 30 minutes earlier.
Ricardo A — Google review
We used the overnight bus from Uyuni to Lapaz. The service was punctual. The buses were brand new, the recliner seats were fantastic. Provided with dinner (rice, chicken and vegetables) and breakfast (sandwich, cereal bar and juice). There was a blanket and pillow. Definitely raises the standard of overnight bus travel (I am from United Kingdom).

Their office has a simple but nice waiting lounge with (slow) wifi. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Boarding is right in front of the office. Bus is really nice, spacious and comfy.

I was hesitant about having to take an overnight bus ride, but was very pleasantly surprised! First of all, the staff at the Uyuni office were so helpful and friendly. We were able to drop off our bags and rest in the lounge (before they were technically open), and one of them even helped us make a dinner reservation at a local restaurant. The waiting areas are quite spacious and comfortable, good wifi and plenty of outlets/charging stations. Hot water and tea are provided as well. The bus itself was comfortable, the seats on the lower level are larger (and cost a slight premium) - unfortunately those were already fully booked but I was still able to sleep very well on upper level seats which recline pretty far back. A simple but tasty dinner and breakfast are served on the bus.

After travel agency left us stranded in Uyuni, Susan from Todo Turismo was incredibly helpful and kind. She went out of her way to call multiple agencies to try to track down our tour guide, gave us clear directions, and offered practical advice on what to do next. Even though it wasn’t her responsibility, she put in so much effort on our behalf. We’re very grateful for her support! Thank you Susan!

We showed up many hours before our bus and the lady who helped us buy tickets showed us a liunge where we could wait, eat food, and get ready for the bus. The bus eas of great great quality and served you a small dinner and breakfast. Fully lay down with blankets, pillows, and water. Nicest bus we have been on yet. We dealt with road blocks and never had to worry about our bags or bus being broken down. Overall, great experience for a 15hour bus. Use this company if you are travelling to/from Uyuni. They are more expensive for a reason!

Highly recommend this company.Had such a good experience taking Todo bus from La Paz to Uyuni. From the check in, onboard, smooth ride as a result of a well designed bus, service on board, morning wake up to sunrise, to offboard the Uyuni office which has so many desk space and couch area for people to rest. Last but not least, a message to the manager to improve online check out platform as it doesn’t work too well which could turn customer away. Also would be good to have a better WiFi :)

Hotel
Salcay Hotel is a humble yet comfortable accommodation option in Uyuni, Bolivia. It offers basic rooms with amenities such as Wi-Fi and TVs, along with a rooftop patio where guests can relax. The hotel provides some of the cheapest private rooms in the area, making it an ideal choice for budget travelers seeking privacy. Additionally, its convenient location near dining options and the bus stop adds to its appeal.
Good economic option in the area. Our bed was fine, blankets and a heater that kept the room hot in the cold of Uyuni. Warm shower. Breakfast did take a little bit of initiative as we had to look for staff to check if we could have some food but one of the days they brought us Salteñas which was lovely of them. Central location.

We booked online and once we turned up they had no booking. We had to show them our reservation. We then get shown to our room where were then refused stay and told to cancel our booking or pay double to stay. The manager was then bartering with us to try and stay as we had only paid a deposit. Thankfully we made our escape and dodged a bullet. Do not stay here.

Zahra B — Google review
Plenty of hot water and descent beds. The staff is very helpful and they provided a heater for the room. Breakfast isn’t bad and they make eggs too! It was cheaper to get a private room here than it was to get two hostel beds. The location is GREAT! Chicken places right across the road for dinner and bus stop two blocks down!
Richard G — Google review
For the price, it was a very pleasant stay. While the room was not the cleanest, the bathroom was very awkward (since when you showered, everything would get wet), and the bed was uncomfortable, it was well worth the price that we paid. The breakfast was diverse and consisted of your typical breads and jellies, cereals, and plenty of fruit. The noise level at night was sometimes difficult to overcome, but that is not the hostels doing - it is more the doing of the rude people that also stayed at the hostel. Overall, it was a very nice stay for a very affordable price.

If you find yourself in Uyuni, make sure to stop by Donna Isabella for a delightful culinary experience. This charming eatery boasts an extensive menu featuring three distinct meal options and a variety of beverages that cater to all tastes. The atmosphere may seem uninviting at first glance, but don't let that deter you; once inside, you'll be greeted with warm hospitality even if you're arriving close to closing time. The highlight here is undoubtedly the pizza—large, generously topped, and customizable to your liking.
After days in the desert, coming back to some handmade pizza and cold beers is epic. Not to mention how GREAT the pizza actually is — best in Bolivia perhaps??

Called to ask if they delivered, they said yes. Ordered 3 pizzas and was told they’d be ready in 35 minutes. After 1h and no reply to texts, I had to call to chase only to find out the owner had no idea where the pizzas were. He said he’d call me back, never did. I called back to order the pizzas again but I would go there myself to pick them up, he wasn’t sure that was possible!! What?! I went there anyway… the place was shut Avoid getting delivery, they don’t know how to do that.

When exploring Uyuni, don't miss the culinary delight that is The Hot Spot. This innovative restaurant stands out for its creative and refined cuisine, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts. With a focus on locally sourced ingredients, diners can indulge in an exquisite 5-course tasting menu that promises unexpected flavors and satisfying experiences. The warm hospitality of Israel and his multilingual staff enhances your visit as they cater to various dietary needs while ensuring you enjoy every moment of your meal.
Very good and surprising restaurant in Uyuni. We went for the 5 tasting menu. Dishes were thoughtful, well crafted. Everything had great combos of textures and flavours. Value for money was great. Service was nice but a bit too slow. Although only one person speaks English he explained all the dishes well but after he left we didn’t know what we ate. We could pay by card. Great experience, highly recommended.

In this place you can appreciate Israël’s dream and passion coming to life in carefully designed and refined dishes that celebrate the raw ingredients of this land, in a team that is determined to make its mark and truly believes in it, and in an environment with a memorable style. Tasting menu available in two options, highly recommended. The Hot Spot is one of the reasons why it’s worth not only passing through Uyuni, but also staying long enough to enjoy this excellent culinary experience.
David M — Google review
My wife and I discovered this restaurant on GoogleMaps when we were looking for a place to have dinner the night before our Salt Flats tour. We had the 5-course tasting menu and had an absolutely great experience. Each of the courses was so flavorful and delicate, we could not get enough of it. We actually regretted afterwards we did not take the 7-course option. Clearly this place is quite pricey for Bolivian standards. As of October 2025 you pay 210 BOB p.P. for the 5-course menu. The wine is also rather on the expensive side, starting at 210 BOB for the cheapest bottle. However, I would argue, both the food and the wine were absolutely worth it! Plus the service is exceptional. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the food ingredients and the wines. The restaurant itself is also designed in a modern and cool fashion, making the atmosphere very pleasant. I would absolutely recommend to come here if you happen to have a night in Uyuni! P.S.: you can pay by credit card. ;-)
Dmitry S — Google review
Bottom line: If you are visiting Uyuni, you need to eat here. This is a true diamond in the rough, and you are missing out if you skip this place. After a week in Bolivia, this ended being the only meal I actually savored. I’ll start with the negatives: (1) Service is acceptable but its faults are highlighted when the dining experience is otherwise so good. There is no guidance on how to approach the food. For example, do I pour all of the green sauce or only some? And, given the volume provided, is it a sauce or a soup? (2) Portioning is small. I still felt hungry after going through the menu. It would be helpful to have some bread served prior to the meal, and to have a larger serving of a starch with the entree. And now the positives: (1) The food is very creative, especially when you consider that the chef is working within the limits of available ingredients and a low budget. I think some very smart strategic choices were made. The textures in the third course (dehydrated tubers, creamy sweet potato, roasted corn) were so interesting to go through and I think that was my favorite, next to the dessert with the caramelized apple wrapped around passion fruit ice cream. (2) The plating is very pretty. Some of it is reminiscent of the local geography. There is great attention to color; someone went out of their way to obtain spirulina for a nice pop of blue against the mashed sweet potato. Someone had to add back in the little passion fruit seeds to the ice cream to make it look the way it did - obviously, a lot of thought went into the execution. (3) The price is 150 Bolivians. That is an insanely good deal. Despite how enjoyable my meal was, I don’t agree with reviews comparing this to Michelin starred restaurants - the Hot Spot simply is not in the same league. However, you can see little commonalities between this place and other great places, so who knows where this restaurant will go someday? Overall, what a great experience. Stop reading, and eat here!
D W — Google review
Amazing food delivered with care and creativity. I've never had such a diverse combination of vegetables. And every dish was really good. The only downside for me was that overall there was a bit of excess in sour taste. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with the experience. The owner is super friendly as well.

A culinary oasis in the desert -20.459199°, -66.822312° Uyuni is a stopover for the salt flats, full of poorly lit dusty streets and a few tourist hotels with the own restaurant for tour groups. Apart from the usual pizzas and burgers, there is not much on offer, except for one culinary star that towers over Uyuni: The Hot Spot The New Religion: two Bolivians brothers from La Paz decided to bring culinary dining to this dusty mining town. Flavours, textures and originality are on the menu. In April 2025, we decided to give the chef free hand by ordering the short Ride Adventure tasting menu (180Bs). The first course consisted of three pieces with multitude of flavours. The second course was exciting with sliced cucumber, cheese and roasted broccoli. The third course had small croquettes and delicious light dressing. The fourth course, the main course, consisted of an excellently prepared piece of meat. Really delicious. The dessert of passion fruit and strawberry was delicious. White Sauvignon Blanc La Conceptíon, Tarija (49Bs) per glass was a good pairing. The tasting menu offered many small touches in presentation and entourage, showing that the staff learnt the details somewhere before. But for now, there are too many loose ends, such a service and cutlery. The challenge is constantly repeating and improving the experience for the future in this dusty mining town. But applause for the audacity. The Hot Spot is by far the best restaurant in Uyuni. Highly recommended.

3 days with Sol de Mañana Tours were incredible. Our driver&guide Gonzales was the best DJ and made this experience memorable. He was thoughtful and kind and took care about our all needs. Thank you Gonzalo y Edith and bueno suerte!

Uyuni 3d2n tour. A decent tour, however the food wasn't very good and we didn't get a lot of food either. Driver drove rather recklessly during the final day. The guide was very informative, had loads of knowledge and spoke good English, however he insisted on taking loads of pictures of us even if we said that we didn't want anymore.
Markus H — Google review
I did the 3d2n tour and although I think it’s not worth it because you end up driving 1000km in this period and the best day for me in my opinion it’s the first day where you get to see the famous salt desert. About the agency, the drivers had a good knowledge about the tour and the places we were going. The meals were good even the vegetarian ones since I ordered that. The places we stayed sleeping in the first night was great! The second night was more simple and roots but that’s part of the adventure specially in a desert place like this so if you’re looking for a lot of luxury and comfort this tour is not for you.

Great tour with Franz! He took great pictures and videos on the flats of the group. He was a very safe and reliable driver. He was also very friendly to us over the 3 days.
Hannah M — Google review
I highly recommend this company for the 3 day/ 2 night Salt Flat tour from Uyuni. They were very communicative and answered all my questions. The price is more affordable than other companies and has all the same amenities. Our guide was absolutely wonderful and did well with the mix of people in our group.

Incredible experience with Sol De Mañana tours. We were well looked after and they were happy to help with anything, including spots for breakfast and dinner before and after our tour.
Tim L — Google review
We did the 3 days and 2 nights tour with sol de manana tours. The food wasn't all that great. The driver also drove quite fast on very bumpy roads and for a guy around 180cm I tended to hit my head on the roof sometimes. The motels were ok. It gets quite cold during the nights so i recommend bringing a sleeping bag that can handle temperatures down to -2 degrees. My sleeping bag has a comfortable limit of 2 degrees and it worked fine. As long as i had my wool shirt and underpants. The motels do not provide towels, toilet paper, soap or blankets. So make sure too bring all of this. The guide was very good. He had a lot of information and was very knowledgeable. He also spoke fluent English and also a couple of other languages. The only thing was that he liked too take alot of pictures. Wich was nice but got a little bit too much towards the end. I would have liked a little more freedom during the tour. He was very controlling of where too go and we didn't get to explore alot on our own. But overall a great guy. Still I had a great time and for the price we paid I am overall happy with the tour. But rhey have some things they can improve on. Thank you Sol de Manana Tours!
Hamle R — Google review
It is really sad that such a nice landscape has such guides like “Franz” - first he did not speak a single word English but also in spanish he barely was giving us informations about the places we visited on the 3 day tour. Moreover on each day there was never a clear guideline in what to expect and what to prepare, this ended in a case that we all run out of water as he did not tell us that the shop we visited will be the last one for 25 hours…or we will stay in a hotel without a shower. Times were also never accurate and we were late

Nestled at an impressive altitude of over 4000 meters, Uyuni White and Green Lagoons are a breathtaking natural wonder located near the Chile-Bolivia border. Surrounded by majestic mountains and volcanoes, these lagoons offer some of the most stunning photographic opportunities in South America. The White Lagoon's unique hue comes from a layer of borax dust that floats atop its waters, while vibrant algae give the Green Lagoon its striking emerald color.
We had a private tour (3d/2n) from Uyuni to San Pedro and we really enjoyed our time. Our guide Alfio was awesome: he drove very responsible, prepared food, explained everything well and we could take all the time we wanted to stay at the stops. Also he took care of our special needs like additional blankets at the hotel. Would definetely recommend a private tour with Alfio! Muchas gracias!

Very bad logistics and coordinations among the crew. They were all very kind but they were rushing us all the trip and we couldn't enjoy the nature, just quick pictures and go, if you really wanna enjoy the beauty of Bolivia choose an agency more focused on giving you a good experience not just getting rid of you quickly. They made us wait in the agency for an hour with tierd old people in our group because of the lack of management, and the original driver and guide just left us alone waiting for the next driver.

They are great, wonderful tour!

Thank you so much to Alfio for making this trip so amazing, a knowledge and friendly guide - with the help of some translation we were able to get all the information we needed! Everything went smoothly, the food and accommodation were both great. We had a great 3 days travelling from San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni and highly recommend this tour.

(Translated by Google) Experience for a lifetime!!! And even better with Alfio, who took great care of us and made the many hours on the road through the Andean Fauna National Reserve and Salar de Uyuni lighter and more fun 🤗 One point about the agency: the transfer on the way back from the jeep to the van that would take us from the Bolivia-Chile border to San Pedro de Atacama was very messy. We spent more than an hour and a half waiting for another group that not even the driver knew which one it was.

We have nothing but praise, he was responsible in the direction, provided a lot of information throughout the tour, took care of our food and accommodation with great responsibility. Furthermore, he is a good-natured person, who joined the chaotic and lively atmosphere in our car. He rocks the photos and videos and was certainly instrumental in making our trip perfect. Ask him to be your guide in Bolivia. (Original) Fizemos nosso tour na Bolívia com o Alfio. Só temos elogios, ele foi responsável na direção, trouxe muita informação ao longo do tour, cuidou de nossa alimentação e hospedagem com muita responsabilidade. (Translated by Google) I took the tour leaving from San Pedro to Uyuni, this tour was outsourced, I contracted directly with Alabalti tourism, and White and Green was the operator. They announced the time they would pick me up, the drivers were very kind and stopped along the way when we needed them. Regarding the accommodations, they were simple, but always clean and warm (as was the shower), and the food was enough for everyone and always well prepared. The only detail is that it seemed to me that they sell the tour that will have one day where we will sleep in a salt hotel, but at the time they gave us an excuse that it rained and it wouldn't be safe to go there, but more than one person I met and did the same tour with another agency in the same period, he slept in one of those salt hotels, so the question remains as to whether it was really that.

The restaurant Kactus Restautant is very nice with a great decoration, it is very clean and well organized. The staff are friendly and the food is very good. One downside is that the prices are a bit higher than average, but overall it is a great place to eat.
It was very good, the songs, the food all well prepared. I loved it! We had dinner just there all the time we spent in Uyuni.

Very simple food, took an hour for it to come. Very friendly waitress, and nice atmosphere! But the food wasn’t great - especially the meat plate “Piché macho” was excited to try a traditional dish… it was not pleasant.

The food was fantastic and the staff warm and super friendly. I highly recommend!! I had the falso conejo, and it was delicious.

I went twice, with a group of 10 and then 8 people. The waiting time is a bit long, but the food is good, the happy hour worth it, and the waiters friendly! Will definitely come back with the next group ☀️

We stayed here for a while after our Uyuni tour while waiting for the night bus back to La Paz. The vibe was super chill, and we enjoyed playing some games. We tried the cannoli with spinach and cheese, and the fried rice with kimchi both were delicious! A perfect meal to have before a long journey.

Chinese restaurant
LONGMEN is a Chinese restaurant located in Uyuni, offering a taste of authentic Chinese cuisine in an unexpected location. Despite the challenge of sourcing traditional ingredients, the restaurant manages to serve up delicious dishes such as liangbanmuer, gaijiaofan, xihongshiniurou, braised llama noodles, shrimp fried rice, dumplings and beef noodle soup.
Pleasantly surprised by finding great Chinese food in Uyuni. Shared 3 dishes between two which was the perfect amount for 2 very hungry travellers! Chicken fried rice was fantastic. Cost approx Bs.70pp (most dishes around Bs.50). Highly recommend.
Susan K — Google review
I'm glad we found this Chinese restaurant. Some of the dishes are not your typical Chinese food found in a normal Chinese restaurant. The food is more like a home cooked meal.
Annie T — Google review
For a small town like Uyuni, Longmen Chinese Restaurant was a pleasant surprise. We dined there twice and tried a range of dishes, including pork dumplings, beef dumplings, beef noodles, fried rice with prawn, and fried rice with salted pork. The beef noodles were quite good, the flavour was mild and not overpowering. The dumplings were small in size, I personally preferred the pork dumplings over the beef ones. The fried rice with prawn was tasty, although the prawns were diced into tiny pieces and quite minimal. The salted pork rice was something different and surprisingly enjoyable. Service was good and efficient. There was also a hot water boiler with free tea bags available, which was a nice touch. However, at least five dishes on the menu were not available when we tried to order, which was a bit disappointing. Another issue was the front door, it did not close properly without some effort, and on a windy day, dust blew into the dining area and onto the tables. Overall, the food was quite good considering the location, and we were happy to return for a second meal.
River A — Google review
My wife and I tried the fried noodles (chow mein) and the stir-fried chicken and vegetables with rice here. They were generic stir-fried stuff that you can find in the cheap Chinese eateries ubiquitous in the west. We wouldn't say the food is authentic if you're from Asia or familiar with proper Asian cuisine, but it was acceptable. In any case, what prompted us to give a negative review here was the poor management of the restaurant. We came here after a large tour group (20-25 people) on 29 Jan 2025. The waiter didn't warn us of the waiting time, but did tell the table that came after us that their food would take about 20 minutes to prepare. Unfortunately, in the end, we had to wait about TWO HOURS for our two dishes to come. A long wait was understandable given the large tour group had clearly overwhelmed the staff, but what was unacceptable was that the restaurant was not honest about the waiting time to the other customers. Furthermore, when another table that came after us complained about the waiting time, the staff adjusted the sequence of orders so that they got their food before us. This isn't a fair way of managing the orders, and if we weren't tired about our three-day tour (and had to deal with the sunk cost of having waited 1.5 hours by then), we would have simply walked out. I guess this place only has business because of the large number of Asian tourists in Uyuni and the lack of viable competition in this small town. The price point here is quite high for Bolivian standards (~50 BOB per dish), which would have gotten us a very nice meal in La Paz. I would also add that for some of the dishes here, we could even get them for cheaper (and far tastier) in Singapore, where we come from (and where the cost of living is way higher).
Adelle E — Google review
For a town that doesn’t have many good food options especially Asian food options this is actually pretty good. My favorite dish was the beef noodle soup, at least the soup was pretty good. Also the shrimp fried rice was pretty authentic. The fungus and onion is not bad either.
Allen L — Google review
Great little find in Uyuni and satisfied our cravings for beef noodle soup. If I had a chance to return again I would love to try the other dishes on the menu. The interior of the restaurant felt a bit dated but don't let that deter you from coming for the food!
Penny — Google review
DO NOT GO HERE!!! FOOD POISONING. My partner and I were craving some Chinese food after months of travel in South America. We were so excited to have some Asian food. Only to have FOOD POISONING from the food. Especially from the the spicy noodle with garlic oil dish. I ate a tiny part of the dish and vomited all of it out. My partner has been SUFFERING all night. Disappointing does not begin to describe how I feel. The food might look fine on the plate, but clearly something is very wrong in that kitchen. Hygiene standards seem questionable at best. No restaurant that makes two people this sick should still be serving customers. I’m not one to write a bad review, I’m genuinely trying to help the suspecting customer. Save yourself the risk — there are plenty of safer places to eat in town. Ps. I can see that the owner is trying to deny that I ate at this place. I have eyes and can 100% assure you that I ate here. Eat here at your own risk.
Reese C — Google review
The only chinese restaurant in Uyuni town centre. Surprisingly the food is much better than expected and with good flavors. The shrimp fried rice is sooooo good that i finished the whole plate. The dumplings are also very nice. We had two meals in three days here. Though some ingredients may not be always available, it’s highly recommended!!!

I recently dined at Boca Grande in Uyuni, and it was an exceptional experience! The food was delicious, prepared with great attention to flavor and presentation. What truly stood out, however, was the service. The entire staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and always willing to help with a smile. Their genuine hospitality made the visit even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Uyuni—you won’t be disappointed!

Delicious quinoa soup and a great eggplant pizza! I recommend these dishes, can't speak for the others (a big menu!). The soup took 40 minutes, but it tasted like they made it from scratch when it came out. Free wifi when you order too!

Suspected Food Poisoning. My partner and I were sick for 4 days after eating here. The food was okay but it we reacted pretty soon after eating. They also don’t accept visa despite having a visa advert on the front door.
Charlotte D — Google review
DON'T EAT lama meat HERE! I should have listened to earlier comments talking about food poisoning... Anyway I got distracted by good comments. To be fair I must say that actually everything was alright until the night. The food was delicious, it was well served and the atmosphere in the restaurant was inviting. However I'm still suffering from last night's dinner, which means I'm ill and not sure if I can take the tour today. Maybe this only applies to lama meat or meat in general in this place, but I advise any reader to make careful choices and rather avoid those kind of meals here. By the way it's very expensive for Bolivian standards...
Eggerich E — Google review
The service was lovely, unfortunately the food let it down a bit, the base of my burger bun had turn so soggy I couldn’t eat it. The juices are delicious, COLD (a rarity I’ve found) and HUGE. So I recommend them. It was nice sitting outside and they’d put on some fun traditional music but then changed it to Louis Armstrong - who I usually love - but it was putting us all to sleep. Not sure if they changed the music because they saw all us white people out the front 😅 but it kind of ruined the atmosphere.

I was here twice within couple of days. Ordered a vegetarian pizza and on my second visit I ordered a pizza romana. The food was really good, the serving was ok, I can see the staff is doing their very best. The restaurant is clean, looks nice and welcoming. The bathroom is ok. Payment was by cash. I'm not sure if they accept card payment. Recommend this place!

Food is decent. Prices are fine. They accept card but told us after our meal that they reached their daily limit for card transactions and made us pay with cash late at night. Incredibly dishonest establishment that would qualify for entrapment if somewhere else. BS restaurant. In addition, after we paid for our meal and leaving the restaurant, they asked for 30 BOs for a beer they didn’t account for. Please avoid this place.

We ordered the hamburgers, a beer and wine. White wine was too sweet don’t bother. Burgers were simple but ok, fries were home made which was nice. Loud pop music the whole time and other customers all tourists, it’s not amazing but it’s not awful. Service was good nothing to complain about. They do only take cash though.

Most terrible restaurant in my trip. Slow service, terrible food, higher pricing. If you have only one or two nights in Uyuni, don’t recommend you come here. The only reason that attracts you is the outlook of restaurant in the street. Don’t be fooled. Our food served without forks and knives. I had to eat my plate by my hands. The photos show the cutlery just serviced. You will be regreted if you come.

Our experience (2p): - nice, warm atmosphere - Waited 25 minutes to order - guy forgot my cola in the order. When asking aigin, he forgot again. - Waited 40 minutes for food - Received food for me (pizza) - ate the pizza (mediocre at best and small). Done with it in 10 min, Waited for 15min for food for my wife - pasta came - wife ate pasta (bad) - pay a relatively expensive bill
