The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Valley is a 19th-century cathedral located in Catamarca, Argentina. It houses the revered image of Virgen del Valle, the patron saint of Catamarca. The cathedral features a mix of architectural styles, with neo-Byzantine influences being particularly prominent. Visitors can ascend to the Camarin, a beautiful mezzanine chapel adorned with original tile and stained glass depicting the virgin's story.
Beautiful church from the outside (instagram worthy you might say). Didn’t enter because service was on going but this church was in the middle of a large plaza where several people were gathered.

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Valley is an iconic place of Catamarca. It's a must for every tourist. If you are religious, your soul will be healed here. If you are agnostic, come and see the beauty of the place. It spells culture and traditions.

You should consider stopping by the park Plaza Virgen del Valle soon as it has recently undergone refurbishment, resulting in the addition of pleasant facilities. However, it is unfortunate that the upkeep of the irrigation system has been neglected, leading to a constant flow of water along the pathways, ultimately resulting in wastage.

(Translated by Google) A place with beautiful landscapes, ideal for hiking, biking, and enjoying the outdoors. The view from the lookout point is spectacular, and the natural surroundings invite you to relax. However, it falls short of a 5-star rating due to the presence of trash in several areas, which detracts from the overall experience. It would be excellent if awareness and cleanup campaigns were strengthened to preserve this very special corner of Catamarca. With a little more care, it could become an even more charming destination.

(Translated by Google) The place is wonderful, now the food depends on the day. I went once and had the best Milanese with potatoes of my life, but when I recommended it they told me that it wasn't like that. Last night I bought a loin and it was delicious but the bread was a little old. It is not the gastronomic madness but a good place and it seems very expensive at first glance but the truth is that the prices are good for what it is and where it is, the lomo cost me cheaper than the brujito, which is a cart in a square. Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with El Shincal de Quimivil, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Área natural protegida Campo de Piedra Pómez. All together, your day would be filled with about 10 hours of non-stop fun.

Archaeological museum
Embarking on a journey from San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, the provincial capital, leads you through stunning sierras and ravines towards Andalgala. A highlight of this adventure is visiting El Shincal de Quimivil, an extraordinary archaeological site nestled in Londres. As you continue along National Route 40 and take a detour onto Provincial Route 43, you'll find yourself entering the breathtaking Puna region of Catamarca.
The El Shincal de Quimivil archaeological site is both a spectacular piece of history and a beautiful landscape to visit! The guided tour, although only in Spanish, was exceptionally detailed and informative. I joined a very large group and the guide did a great job of ensuring that everyone got the message! The museum was small but fascinating and a great supplement to the tour. There is also plenty of information available online if you want to know more about the site. To access the site if you don't have a car or aren't going as part of a tour, there is a bus with a company called El Condor leaving from and returning to the bus terminal in Belen, passing through Londres each way (I'll include a photo of the current timetable, but you can ask for the latest times at the information centre on the plaza in Belen). If you're in the area, I strongly recommend a visit to this impressive piece of history!

A great historical site. The pathway leads to the top of Moon Hill 🌕 where you look across what was the main section of this ancient city to see the Stairway to the Sun 🌞. I liked learning about the rock piles which guide the path. Each visitor can add one rock 🪨 and ask permission to enter the area. It was well maintained with no trash on the grounds. I would say this is not a handicapped experience as the end of the path has several dirt carved steps up to the top. There was an interesting children's area that I noticed on our way out, but I didn't get any photos. Definitely a good family activity, though hopefully everyone will keep their children on the path. Nearby is the town of Landres (London in English) which also has interesting history, and a short drive up historic route 40 is the town of Belen where they have a beautiful Virgin of the Valley monument. Enjoy your visit! #journeyingjamie #jamieinternationallyknown #jamieinargentina #shelivesontheroad #shesharestheroad #theroadholdssurprises #thingslookdifferentouthere

You can go by bus, but because the schedules are funny you many need to book a taxi from Bus Terminal to get you there, ask the driver wait for two hours and then take you back - it's not expensive, no need to do that through an agency. You need to enter with a guide, so check tour hours with Tourist information Whatsup. Use Google translate to get info in your language. The tour guide is in Spanish only, by the way

Entrance fee 6.000 for foreigners, 3.000 for Argentinans (and less for locals). Really worth it! Complete visit: See the small museum and attend a guided tour of the archeological site, there's one in the morning, one at 2.30 pm and the last one at 4 pm (duration 1,5 h).

Unbeatable way to learn about an aborigin city remains in South America, second in importance compared to Machu Pichu. Wonderful experience to hiking around this site. You'd better have suitable outfit and trainers to enjoy all of it: unique moments. Tour guides can help you but you can get brochures to take the tour on your own. Restrooms and other facilities are worth noting.

(Translated by Google) The tour of the site is guided. In our case, we were accompanied by Dalia, who shared her knowledge with incredible professionalism and kindness. She explained so many things to us! From the history of this archaeological site, the Inca domination, the Diaguita people and their customs, local flora and fauna, medicinal plants... and I can go on! Dalia is a genius! To be in that place and think that it was organized so many years ago... there is so much history in those stones! The work of preserving this site, which is one of the main Inca monuments, must be highlighted. I hope they continue to preserve and study this historical heritage with professional care! Área natural protegida Campo de Piedra Pómez is a fascinating and unique destination that offers an unforgettable experience. Located near the mountains, it features one of the highest dunes in the world, creating a magical desert setting perfect for activities like photographic safaris, sandboarding, and off-road expeditions. It is recommended to explore this area with a local guide who knows every detail of the circuit as it is not signposted.
Argentina 🇦🇷 Campo de Piedra Pómez is a natural place in northwestern Argentina, the so-called pumice stone field. In the protected area, due to the eruptions of nearby volcanoes, a vast accumulation of white and very light pumice was formed. The stones come in unique shapes and colors ranging from creamy white to pink, yellow, orange and more. Sometimes they look like a sea of white waves, but their shapes change depending on the angle and changes in the light.
ELHACENE B — Google review
Campo de Piedra Pómez is an immense expanse of volcanic rock, a lunar landscape characterized by a vast and ancient flow of pumice (stones) from the eruption of Volcán Blanco. This natural wonder is located in the north of Argentina, at the foot of the Andean mountain range in the province of Catamarca. The entire area is made up of a series of splendid dunes and hills with a surreal appearance that plays with colors emitting a wild and primordial charm. This extraordinary landscape is made up of over 5,000 pumice stone formations and covers an area of 10 square miles at an altitude ranging from 3,000 to 4,500 meters. It is a desert area of great geological interest, created from the solidification of the ash poured by the intense activity of the surrounding volcanoes.

Tip: Go in the morning; in the afternoon, it can be quite windy, which makes the visit difficult—but not ruined. (Translated by Google) May 10th. It was the 199th anniversary of Mamerto's birth. As luck would have it, our visit was surrounded by a festive atmosphere as preparations for the following day unfolded. We innocently wandered into the tourist office across the street, and thus, unexpectedly, were not only accompanied by a very helpful and knowledgeable guide who provided insight into the house and gave us a sense of direction, but also connected us with the patriotic and religious sentiments that illuminate the Friar's life story. A highly recommended visit. Everything was carefully curated, and the cordiality was always present. (Original) 10 de Mayo. Justo cumpliéndose 199 años del natalicio de Mamerto. Specialty Museums
The Archaeological Museum Adán Quiroga in Catamarca province is a significant cultural institution boasting an extensive collection of archaeological artifacts. Visitors can explore millennia of local history through displays of weapons, pottery, and utensils housed in a striking colonial-era building. The museum offers a unique insight into the area's history and culture, featuring pre-Columbian ceramics from various cultures and eras, including remarkable black Aguada ceramics with stylized animal decoration.
Unique opportunity to travel to the ameridian times. You can have the best and closest look of craft, burial urns, weapons, arrowheads and even a mummy belonging to the aborigines that inhabited the northwest of Argentina. One can't help being afraid that culture could be lost if something happened to this treasure. More safety measures should be taken since every article of the museum can be touched. The building is a fantastic structure typical of the colonial times, and very well maintained.

(Translated by Google) The museum has a large and interesting collection of ceramic objects from the indigenous peoples of Catamarca. Unfortunately, there's no guided tour explaining the exhibit. The person in charge of the exhibition is too slurred to be a good communicator. I asked if I could take a photo of a sticker on the floor, and she said no. Furthermore, I didn't know how long it had been there, and why she was saying they couldn't remove it... she claimed to be an archaeologist. The visit wasn't pleasant.

Housed in a neocolonial-style building within the Esquiú Cultural Complex, it offers an atmosphere that transports visitors to pre-Hispanic times. The museum houses an impressive collection of 7,000 archaeological pieces representing various ancient cultures of the region, such as La Aguada, Condorhuasi, and La Ciénaga, with remains up to 12,000 years old. Each room displays ceramics, tools, and other objects that reveal the ingenuity and spirituality of the indigenous peoples. An interesting detail is that, as a gesture of respect for Indigenous communities, the museum stopped displaying human remains in 2012. Additionally, admission is free, making it accessible to all. However, photography is not permitted inside, forcing visitors to absorb every detail with their eyes and their memories. In short, the Adán Quiroga Museum is a small but fascinating place, ideal for those looking to immerse themselves in the history of Catamarca and discover the cultural richness of its earliest inhabitants. (Translated by Google) The food is top-notch, the service is a bit slow, but the empanadas are the best. We went four nights, eating both fried and baked goat and beef empanadas... speechless!!! The humita was delicious, the baked goat wasn't meant to be shared, but it was a hearty dish, and the tamale was delicious and tasty. We tried flan for dessert, bread pudding with cheese and lime jam, and cheese and lemonade jam. The night we spent the most was the goat at $18,000 a portion, and we drank soda every night. The place is small with few tables; you have to go as soon as it opens because it's hard to find a table. The atmosphere is very family-friendly. The food is top-notch, there are good wines on the menu, although we didn't drink them. 1.5l soft drinks are $6,000 and 1-liter flavored waters... affordable prices. The beef and chicken empanadas are $1,000 each and the goat empanadas are $1,500... a great place. There's always soccer on TV. Everyone who works there, including Carlitos, is very nice.

(Translated by Google) I only gave it two stars for the attention of the girl, I ordered the Riojan loin which is something classic for any place like this and I must say that the flavor had nothing, it was a mixture of carrots, peas and tomato with no taste of anything literally, without even salt and the egg was a copy of an egg it only had the shape since there was no yolk or yolk, my partner ordered the matambre al roquefort, although the portion was good the meat was boiled and you could tell a lot, without flavor without salt, the roquefort was a cream that didn't even have any roquefort flavor, maybe adding a Benidorhm sauce or whatever it is written would have been better, it was my first and last experience, I have wanted to go for a long time because of the atmosphere that the place has but there is nothing more than that, the truth is it is a fiasco and I don't recommend it at all and it's a shame because in Catamarca there aren't many places of this type. 02/14/25. (Translated by Google) The photos say it all. Comedor Don Pedro is that eatery worthy of any #Antigourmet: honest food, professional waiters and abundant portions. You won't find any mattresses here, mattresses are for beds. I came for the first time about 8 years ago and the only thing that changed was the name Nuevo Comedor Don Pedro. Must visit in Catamarca.

(Translated by Google) Dining rooms like those of the past. Each portion is enough for two people, but each person finishes their own plate. We had an incredible Neapolitan supreme accompanied by mashed potatoes like grandma's, and a double-horse Milanese with a salad to match. Highly recommended, and a restaurant in Catamarca.
