Ischigualasto Provincial Park, also known as the Valley of the Moon, offers guided car and bike tours that lead to unique rock formations. The park provides a glimpse into the planet's past during the Triassic Period. Visitors can explore the fantastic landscape through a 40km drive with five stops at interesting spots, each equipped with wooden viewing platforms. It is recommended to use a pickup truck due to dust along the route.
Really good experience. The park is well managed and the tour guide was really informative. He even repeated his explanations in English for us. The park has some amazing landscapes. Basically they allow vehicles through in small convoys and you all follow your guide to each stop. One note on the negative side, the toilets at the entrance, near the museum are terrible. They were filthy and badly maintained.

Breath taking. A gift from mother nature. Spiritual and ancient.

Fantastic landscape, nothing you’ve seen before. It’s a 40km drive through, you follow the ranger’s car, then you have five stops. It takes 3-3.5 hours all together. The stops are arranged at the most interesting looking spots and there is a wooden viewing platform arranged. You can do this with a normal car, but a pick up would be better - loads of dust. The guide was speaking Spanish only but it was easy to understand. It’s a nice day out. The latest entry is 4pm (I think!). From their leaflets I learnt that you can enter by bicycle and they do full moon walks too - this must be fantastic- they literally have a full moon calendar ready for the year. The entrance was 10K for locals, 20K for foreigners (April 2024).

Interesting visiting scheme. You go around with your own car, or a travel company car...it's a 40km ride with stops, which takes around 3 hours in total. Very interesting geologic views. The sand color varies according to the geologic period, from low, middle and high Triassic Periods
Alex Y — Google review
Fascinating place. 250 million years of earth's geological history in a fantastic landscape. Dinosaur fossils and more. You can visit either in your own car or as part of a tour, though always on a schedule with a park guide always present. Tour takes around 3 hours with various stop off points at the most interesting formations and at the palaeontology station to look at real dinosaur fossils. Wonderful and amazing place.

The full moon walk is fantastic, like you're in another world. Be prepared for Spanish only and you will have a great time.

My fiancé and I did a tour of Ischigualasto to do an episode of our travel blog on YouTube and we loved the experience! Not only did we go during the day, we went at night for the tour of the full moon. It was nice to do both tours because you don’t see the same things (obviously one is during the day and the other at night) but we also go to different areas. Our guide was great at telling us the history as well as keeping it funny — we were giggling the entire time. There’s a nice pit stop in the middle to recharge with food, coffee, and water at your own cost. If you’re going during the day, the last tour is at 5 and you have to hurry to make it back for the queue to pay for the full moon tour which usually starts around 9:15-9:30. Plan accordingly!

Camped there for 2 nights. Great camp site, clean bathroom and hot shower. Highly recommend the guided self drive tour within the park.

National park
Nature & Parks
Talampaya National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000, is a place of remarkable eroded rock formations, extensive dinosaur remains, and archaeological sites. The park offers a journey through the prehistory of our planet with one of the most significant sets of paleontological deposits from the Triassic period.
My friends and I went on a road trip from CABA to Talampaya. We bought an entrance and an excursion on a mini van to go inside the park. It looks like Mars on Earth. Resembles Petra, Jordan but is also very unique and charming in its own way. There were 5 stops and we also had a picnic with white wine and local snacks.

Beautiful landscape. Definitely worth a visit to see the gift from the mother nature. However, for foreign tourist, the total cost including entrance ticket with a bus ride is about US$40. Visitors are restricted to 4 stop points inside the park and following a park guide. Basically all is fine, but not justified for a 2 hours 15 minutes visit inside the park for paying US$40!! Visitors should allow to stay longer and more stop points.
Desmond H — Google review
Beautiful. Try to do the extended circuit if you can. I did the classic and it was too short and basically picture taking, you don't get to really experience the canyon. Wish I had planned to stay longer in the area and do some hiking.

This off the beaten, in the middle of nowhere Nacional Parc is certainly worth a visit! Beautifull rock formations, bright colors, and interesting history explained by professional guids. During the tour they also provide cold water and a little snack. Our tourguide Nadia was very friendly and open for question. They don't speak English here.
Jip J — Google review
Wow, just wow! This experience was so much fun for us. I have to be honest, it didn’t start off amazing. The host was a bit cold to me (an English speaker) and the bus was a bit stinky but once we got over that, we had a phenomenal trip. Our host warmed up, the places we were shown were beautiful (and so was the knowledge!) we enjoyed the snacks they provided during our excursion, which even included alcohol to our surprise! The only negative thing? As a tourist (AMERICAN) I paid 3 x’s the amount to enter the park than locals but they only have some of the plaques with English. In order to understand everything, my partner had to translate for me. But overall, super impressed. We paid $8000 pesos each for the excursion plus the park entrance fees ($20,000 total). You CANNOT fly a drone here without obtaining a permit from the government. (This can be easily done with you permit from the USA but needs to be done before hand). They do not offer sunrise or sunset tours because of the predators in the area. photos taken by @alejandroseveriniph

El Terebinto Lomos is a charming dining spot that offers a delightful family atmosphere, making it perfect for an enjoyable evening out. The tenderloin served here is particularly noteworthy for its flavor, although it's worth noting that fries are not included with the dish and must be ordered separately. Despite this minor detail, the overall experience is highly recommended due to the delicious food and attentive service. The patio area adds to the ambiance, providing an ideal setting for pleasant nights under the stars.

The tenderloin is very delicious, it's a shame it doesn't come with fries included. Still it is highly recommended. (Translated by Google) Terebinto de la Ramirez de Velazco historically had the best sirloin steak in La Rioja. Now things have changed. We ordered two full chicken tenders, and the waiter offered us: mayonnaise? We said yes. The chicken tenders had enough chicken, but (we'd been noticing this before), the amount of lettuce and tomato was ridiculously small! The mayonnaise was scarce. Everything else was good, including the fries. The downside was that they brought us mayonnaise in a mini container and charged us $200 extra, plus another $200 for the chimichurri. It's truly disappointing that they charge for what a sirloin steak contains. We ordered a one-liter beer, very expensive, $3,000. The total bill: $8,200, two chicken tenders, unnecessary extra mayonnaise, chimichurri, a portion of fries, and the beer. In short, El Terebinto was misfired. Despite their track record and prestige, they're going to lose this way.

The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Valley is a 19th-century cathedral located in Catamarca, Argentina. It houses the revered image of Virgen del Valle, the patron saint of Catamarca. The cathedral features a mix of architectural styles, with neo-Byzantine influences being particularly prominent. Visitors can ascend to the Camarin, a beautiful mezzanine chapel adorned with original tile and stained glass depicting the virgin's story.

The guide who attended us was very friendly and gave us a super complete tour of all the rooms. It saved us because we had to make time and there's really nothing to do at that time, everything is closed. The paleontology and geology room is super complete and with many real samples that are very good. There is a leaders' room that is also very interesting. I highly recommend it to visit, admission is free and inside there is a literary cafe (see schedule because it was closed when we went!!!!) but the internal patio and the cafe were very nice. Convent Santo Domingo-La Rioja is the oldest monastery in Argentina, built by Diaguita labor under Dominican friar direction. The carved carob door showcases the date and Diaguita artists' work. Adjacent to the convent is a museum of sacred art housing ancient religious artifacts like altarpieces, chalices, and rosaries. General San Martin occupied a cell within the convent in 1815 before liberating Chile and Upper Peru.

During my recent travels, I had the pleasure of dining at Oliva Restaurante, nestled within a charming hotel in La Rioja. The ambiance was delightful, and the attentive service from the waitstaff truly enhanced the experience. While I enjoyed my meal—particularly the puree and grilled vegetables—I felt that some dishes could have used a bit more seasoning to elevate their flavors. Dessert options were limited to fruit salad and cheese, which seemed a tad underwhelming given the restaurant's elegant setting.
This is one of two restaurants attached to the Naindo hotel, and offers surprisingly good meals and service, with a varied menu. The shrimp and chicken on orange appetizer was excellent but the chicken papardelle was too salty for me. Fig mousse dessert was alright but not fantastic. I still look forward to coming back. There's a 10% discount for hotel guests.

A beautifully sleek, modern interior with good service. The goat empanadas were perfectly spiced and cooked, but lasagna was too runny, liquidy, and bland, with the usual sausage substituted with ground beef. The sauce had very little flavor. Great local museum with hundreds of artifacts from the inca civilization. What was most interesting was the history of the priests that help curate the collection and overcame the biases of the locals against embracing their indigenous roots. My Spanish is decent, but the guides talk really fast in a local accent, so be ready to pay close attention. Super nice people here.

(Translated by Google) The place is beautiful, the service is good, but the burnt coffee they serve is totally unpleasant. It's a shame that the quality of the product they offer does not match the prices.

Something to eat was ordered, one had sanwguches, a very special day in La Rioja, the procession of San Nicolás, where many people attend. It is incredible that they run out of merchandise, problems for them to charge us, anyway. We are in La Rioja, and the owners of these businesses are from Córdoba, who operate the Casinos (Original) Fui con tres amigos. No nos atendían. Hasta que conseguimos que llegue la misa. (Translated by Google) We had a spectacular day at Finca Lomas Blancas. The visit to the museum was very interesting, with an excellent explanation of the history of the place. The tasting was delicious, and the food was abundant and delicious! (We ordered chicken Roquefort with baked potatoes, Milanese with salad, and two empanadas—one with meat and one with ham and cheese—as a starter.) The service from María and the entire staff was exceptional. It was my birthday, and they were incredibly attentive to every detail (the lemon pie was exquisite!). Definitely an experience worth repeating. I'm leaving photos that speak louder than words.

We asked for the tasting menu he brought us, but he didn't explain anything. He only named the wines. Although he was super friendly and attentive, he wasn't prepared. I think those of us who visit a winery don't just have lunch, but rather take the tour and make it a nice experience. The lunch was decent. We ordered empanadas as a starter. Very delicious. Then my daughter ordered Milanese Napolitana with mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were average. The Milanese was very Riachuelo. We ordered a cold cuts platter. It's abundant but comes with machine cheese, raw ham and shoulder ham (low quality, not cooked ham), some pieces of Roquefort cheese, olives with vinegar, and some snacks. It would be nice if they improved the quality of the cold cuts. For dessert, we ordered a slice of Black Forest cheese. Delicious. And a glass of ice cream Then, since the guide wasn't there, an employee explained it to us, and we toured the museum. She was very kind. We were left wanting an explanation of the winemaking process and the tasting. A shame.

(Translated by Google) I went with my boyfriend to lunch there during the Rioja Wine Route. Visiting the farm and the museum were wonderful experiences, but lunch wasn't as great. They had a menu for 18,000 pesos per person with an appetizer, main course, a drink, a glass of wine, and dessert. The appetizer was a meat empanada (we ordered more empanadas because they looked delicious). The main course was a stew (it only came with two small pieces of meat and wasn't as delicious as that). We ordered a soda. For dessert, we had cheese (very little) with quince jelly. The waiter forgot to bring the wine and it took a very long time to bring the dessert (I had to ask at least three times). We ate quickly so we could take advantage of our time at the farm and take photos, but we didn't manage to do so because it took a long time to bring the dessert and then the bill. If you're going on the Rioja Wine Route, it's best to bring your own food or just order empanadas at the restaurant, as they're delicious and arrive quickly.

We all tried the mashed potatoes that came with it, but no one ate them because they were truly awful; they looked like they came from a packet and were of a poor quality. The Torrontes steak was tender, but the sauce tasted like water with a teaspoon of cornstarch, and it cost 25,000 pesos—expensive. The lemonade was very sweet and slightly acidic; it didn't taste like freshly squeezed lemon. The place has beautiful views of a vineyard and mountains, which was clearly the best part. On the way to the bathroom, there was a lot of trash lying around: two old refrigerators, a pile of empty wine bottles, large jugs full of used oil, etc. The people who served us were friendly, but the food took over an hour.

(Translated by Google) The place is very nice, but the food wasn't that great... I ordered chicken with mushrooms, and it was dry, the lettuce was kind of old, and we wanted fries on the side, but all they got was mashed potatoes. Maybe improving that would be nice because the view is beautiful! The bathroom was dirty with stagnant water.

(Translated by Google) The place is very nice, but we came for Mother's Day and didn't have the best experience. The price was very high for dry pork loin, the casata was melted, and we couldn't speak because of the poor sound of the musician. I'd only highlight the appetizer of delicious empanadas.
