Barichara Main Park

City park
Barichara Main Park is a picturesque green area adorned with sculptures crafted by local artists. Nestled amidst Spanish-style colonial houses, this tranquil and secure oasis offers a European ambiance, complete with charming outdoor cafes. Situated at the heart of Barichara, this well-maintained park boasts lush vegetation and pristine surroundings. Its market square presents an array of excellent eateries, while the town itself exudes a preserved charm reminiscent of historic Spanish colonial towns.
Lovely park in the middle of the town with a nice fountain and shady areas to sit among the trees.
Byron F — Google review
Both at night and during the day this is a lovely place surrounded by historic buildings and cobblestone streets and just a very pleasant place to walk around. It has a couple of good coffee shops and cafes as well. More than pleasant and gives a good feel for this beautiful Town.
Ross D — Google review
Beautiful park on center of town. Lights at night and very safe.
Colin — Google review
Centre of one of the loveliest towns in Colombia. The Spanish colonial charm is enhanced by friendly people and wonderful atmosphere. If you're here, you've probably had an opportunity to walk the streets and climb the unusually high curbs.
Arthur K — Google review
Gorgeous little colonial town. It's becoming very touristy but still very nice and worth visiting.
Patikan — Google review
A very tranquil and safe place. A European type atmosphere with outdoor cafe's. Beautiful, clean and located in the center of Barichara. A great market place with good restaurants all around.

Bakery
Espresso bar
Nona's Bread, an artisanal bakery located near the main bus stop, offers a variety of delectable treats. While the apple pie is quite enjoyable, the lemon pie is also worth trying. However, the chocolate cookie can be a bit dry. The pain au chocolat is decent but not exceptional. Prices may seem slightly higher compared to other establishments, possibly due to its prime location attracting tourists who are less concerned about cost.
Nice location across from the park has an art and minimalism vibe, enjoyed the latte and baked apple croissant that we shared, so cute so many puppies come in.
Paulina F — Google review
One of the few places with a good cappuccino I found in Colombia. They have some nice pastries, the vibe is nice nd friendly, the place is spacious and more quiet (which is hard to come by in the main square).
Alina B — Google review
Beef / chicken pastries were served cold. No friendly faces welcoming us. The waitress kicks the chairs under the table after customers leave. Overall service was mediocre compared to bakeries nearby.
Luis L — Google review
It’s an alright place, better than the corner bakery. The prices aren’t updated in the menu, so not sure how much things cost.
& — Google review
Good for a quick stop and to take a break from the sun. The juices are tasty and fresh. Had a burger which was a bit big for me. Prices are mid range, service is good.
Yunus M — Google review
Incredibly rude staff. Terrible attitudes. They messed up our order and wouldn’t apologize, and acted like it was our fault. We approached them kindly and they were entirely rude about it. Wouldn’t give us a discount, or at least have our one coffee in exchange for not getting our orange juices that should have been included in with our breakfasts. A little bit of kindness would have gone a long way. We’ll definitely never be going back there. Anyways, their coffee is good but the food isn’t anything special, and ridiculously overpriced for what it is. The one girl just sat there and glared at my wife the whole time. I recommend they look up some customer service 101 on YouTube.
Trayson B — Google review
Not sure why anyone wouldn't like this place. Excellent bread and sandwiches and coffee/juices.

Camino real Barichara a Guane

Hiking area
The Camino Real Barichara - Guane is a popular hiking trail that attracts many visitors to Barichara. This historic route, declared a National Heritage Site, offers stunning views of the cactus-strewn valley and surrounding mountains as it leads to the neighboring village of Guane. The hike takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes on a stone/rock trail, with opportunities to experience the area's historical significance.
Beautiful hike-2+ hour hike. I’m not a big hiker, but it was absolutely worth it. The trail offered lovely views, with much of it going downhill and often under the shade, making it a pleasant experience.
Qianyu Y — Google review
Just an absolutely beautiful walk. The full trail is a historic stone-paved route originally built by the indigenous Guane people and later reconstructed by the Spanish and a German engineer, Geo von Lengerke, about 150 years ago. We could see why it is famous given the scenic landscapes, colonial towns, and cultural heritage. However, like many, we completed the most popular section from Barichara to Guane hike, which is about 6–9 km, mostly downhill, and takes about 2 hours. This stretch offers cobblestone paths, whitewashed houses, and beautiful canyon views. However the full Camino Real extends from Cabrera to Los Santos, covering around 42.5 km and passing through several towns: Cabrera, Barichara, Guane, Villanueva, Jordán, and Los Santos. It was a very lovely experience.
Ross D — Google review
Rocky? It is paved entirely of rocks about a foot in diameter of all shapes. Even on flat areas you will have to navigate by selecting which rocks to step on. It is for sturdy shoes only preferably with ankle support. At time you will be sort of rock climbing. Be careful and wear sun protection.
Colin — Google review
Nice walk of roughly 6.5 km. Mostly downhill over slabs of stones to reach the nice colonial hamlet of Guane. You can buy water/ juices from a store halfway or in Guane itself, there is a regularly bus service between Guane and Barichara or take a tuktuk. Don't forget to wear a hat!!
Peter J — Google review
Great walk with great views and very easy! Downhill almost the whole way, and there is a “cafe” just before halfway offering fresh juices and water. You cross a road twice but they are very quiet roads. We went 18/04/24 at midday and only passed 1 person (local man) the entire time. Tuktuk back cost us 25,000, we didn’t try to haggle it lower but probably possible.
Gabriela P — Google review
From the centre of Barichara to the viewpoint in Guane (Mirador al Rio Suárez) is approx. 6,5 km. It took us two hours of easy hiking. The path is well signposted. It's not exactly crowded, we met one other couple. We took a Tuktuk back (25.000 pesos). Great and easy hike. Mind the uneven stones though.
Egbert S — Google review
Easy trail with beatutiful views from Suarez River
Luis M — Google review
Very nice morning walk. Hiking around two hours, it’s an easy one but depends of the weather conditions - as the path is made of stone/rock can get a bit slippery- . From the start point you have a breathtaking views specially early in the morning , I was there around 6 so it’s fresh and peacefull . I was today and I didn’t even cross with anybody so I was basically alone in nature with the birds and some cows :) . On a way back you have different options as a walking return , moto taxi and bus. The buses are around 3000 ask in any shop the timing but I was told there was one at 10 a.m. They are coming from San Gil so you have more during the day. Guane town is very authentic, people are very friendly and pretty chill 🌸

Restaurant
Restaurante El Compa is a traditional Colombian restaurant offering a delicious menu del dia for 17.000 COP, with vegetarian options available upon request. Visitors rave about the incredible cabrito and carne oreada, as well as the generous portions of the picada tipica. The service is fast and accommodating, although some mention that cleanliness could be improved. Despite its popularity leading to crowds, it's considered a must-visit for authentic Santander cuisine at great value.
Wonderful menu del dia. Local hangout. Loved the stewed beef shank and soup!!

Delicious, I had the menu del dia which was fried fish with salad and patacones. And a couple of beers.
Dan L — Google review
Menu del dia for 17k COP. Tasty and big portion.

This place is overrated in my opinion. Meat was well done, the waiter nice, but arepa was just burned, salad mostly just onion and lemonade from chemical powder. Not worthy that price. My worst experience in all Santander.

Barichara Paper Workshop is a charming place where visitors can learn about the fascinating process of making all-natural paper. The workshop offers a quick but thorough tour, showcasing the garden with various plants, flowers, and fruit. Additionally, there is a modern art exhibit on display. The shop sells beautifully crafted items at fair prices and also offers cute trinkets and paper products.
I did not think this visit was for me but I was wrong. For less than $2 usd, you get tour of the beautiful garden, artist work on paper and the process of making paper. Of course there is a gift shop to spend more money. So worth it if you are already in Barichara. Please visit, you will thank me later. Watch the hours, they close for a few hours during lunch.
Colin — Google review
Very nice initiative to show how they make paper using different types of fibres. The plants they use is shown in a nice garden at the back. There is a exposition of pressed colored flora in a big hall.
Peter J — Google review
A really fun stop in Barichara. Our guide was a very young woman who spoke good English, and she was very informative and sweet. We learned how to make paper, saw the plants that the fibers come from, and various works of art. We bought little gifts from the shop at the end of the tour.
Martha O — Google review
This workshop was fantastic! I had no idea how to create such beautiful paper, but everything was so clearly explained. I learned so much and truly enjoyed the experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone interested in paper crafting!
Nataliia N — Google review
Amazing tour that shows you the whole process of handmade paper. The women who run the places are friendly. The art and paper crafts they sell are stunningly beautifully. Best of all the profits go to help local women. If you are in Barichara you must go.

Mirador Salto del Mico is a popular viewpoint near Barichara, offering breathtaking views of the Santander region. The spot is known for its stunning natural scenery and panoramic vistas of the valley. Visitors can capture amazing photos and enjoy romantic sunsets from this rocky outcrop. However, it's important to exercise caution as there are no safety measures in place along the cliffs.
Simply breathtaking views and experience. Beautiful and majestic the sounds of mooing, to motors from far away, geese, and farm life, a spiritual and special experience for us.
Paulina F — Google review
By far the best viewpoint I visited in the area. Really impressive viewpoint, with amazing and airy views down to the Rio Suarez and across to the village of Galán. Do be careful though, and not just of falling. When we were there there was no rain and just a distant peal of thunder earlier when there was a sudden lightning strike within 50m! Scary.
Byron F — Google review
Breath-taking lookout at the edge of town. It's free but there may be a small wait for the best spots to take a picture. Get a couple of snacks, some sun-block, and enjoy the incredible view.

Restaurant
Al Fogolar Barichara Restaurante & Bar is a delightful culinary gem nestled right in front of the main square, adjacent to the charming church. This inviting eatery boasts an impressive menu that not only showcases beautifully presented dishes but also offers a variety of vegan and vegetarian options, catering to diverse dietary preferences. Diners can enjoy their meals while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of the plaza, making it an ideal spot for people-watching.
Very nice place - try to sit outside, next to the colonial church with a nice view over the central park/placa.
Felix K — Google review
Horrible customer service from the administrator, this man does NOT know how to talk to customers. He needs to bring his ego down and learn how to deal with the public. In addition, prices even for a tourist town like Barichara are overpriced, the wine selection was not the best, and the prices were inflated. I later dined at a different restaurant in the same park area and prices were better. Making me realize this place is overpriced. The owners of this place should hire a much more qualified administrator before he brings their business down. I would only return to this place once the administrator has either taken a customer service class or he's replaced by a much more qualified professional.
Yerson M — Google review
The place is right im front of the main square, next to the church. Try to get a table on the balconies for a nice view. Dishes take about 15-20 but they’re worth the wait. Get the ribs.
Kamo M — Google review
Worst juice I had in all of South America. Ordered a mango juice. Got 99% water. Tasted nothing!
Sarah — Google review
This place runs a scam. You order a beer and they serve the beer with a glass with lime juice and a salt rim without any mention of it. They serve every beer like this which makes it look like normal service. I didn't ask for it, and it looked like no one else asked for it either. Then they charge you 3,000 cop for the glass which they call a michelada. The beer is already expensive at 7,000 cop, making it a 10,000 cop beer. I've been traveling six months through Latin America and this is the first place I've seen such a scam.
Benjamin B — Google review
Really enjoyed our time at this restaurant - 1) it's really lovely to sit on the square and watch the world go by 2) There was a really good selection of vegan/vegetarian food 3) The food tasted really nice! The only thing that would improve it is not serving drinks with plastic straws (changing to reusable ones or paper ....?)
Janneke H — Google review
Worse lunch experience ever. The churrasco was as tough as my shoe soles. The short ribs were small for the price and did not taste as good as it should be.
Fernando R — Google review
I chose this place because of the nice balconies that look out over the main square of the beautiful village Barichara, but the food was pretty disappointing. My pizza should have had prosciutto (Italian ham) in thin slices and rucola. They left out the rucola entirely and the prosciutto was cut in square dices which was pretty much impossible to chew. When I pointed it out to them, they didn't seem interested that they forgot a part of my ingredients and even the chef didn't know that prosciutto is supposed to be cut that way. Without excuse they just charged me the full price + tip. There are many places in Barichara where the food is much much better for better prices.

El Puntal is a culinary gem that you simply cannot miss during your travels. Nestled in the charming streets of Barichara, this restaurant offers an impressive array of delicious dishes that are expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. The attentive and friendly staff enhance your dining experience, ensuring every moment is enjoyable. Whether you're indulging in their fresh trout or savoring one of their mouthwatering steaks—especially the Limito Fina—you'll find generous portions that leave you satisfied.
We were so glad we came to this restaurant. The food was delicious, the portion size was really good, and service was very attentive! We ordered the trout and steaks. The trout was really good so we ordered an extra one. Both steaks were good but we preferred the Limito Fina. They all came with a very fresh and refreshing salad. The man who served us spoke English and was very attentive. Ordered a couple of juices, and they were all freshly blended from real fruit, very tasty. Highly recommend!

The food can be very good, i can suggest the tamales and the vegetarian menu. Piña coladas are also tasty. The restaurant is in a very central place and opens until relatively late hours. We ended up coming here twice because it’s decent food.

what a stellar dining experience !! cheap, delicious, and placed in the heart of the gorgeous streets of barichara ... honestly one of the culinary highlights of my trip to santander so far :) !! please try the burgers , they are all spectacular !! i personally adored the 'Leoparda' (pictured - i substituted fries for a salad) and it was , i kid you not , a contender for the best burger i've had in all my 18 years of life ... and accompanied by a Hierbabuena lemonade ... chef's kiss !!
Vanessa L — Google review
Fantastic service - the waitress, dressed in traditional Santander dress, always smiled and was patient with my Spanish. She recommended Carne oreada, which was delicious. It came with yuzu and arepas, which were nice. The Limonada con panela was perfect (I was initially worried that it would be too sweet). I managed to get a seat on the balcony, and it was a wonderful experience.
Carl M — Google review
We absolutely loved every dish! They bring Santander cuisine from all around the region. We were very surprised with the Chicha - absolutely try it! The one in the picture is the beef Tamal (special polenta cooked in banana leaf) ... and loved the special black corn-bread and the sweet cheese that came with it. I also really loved the beef-plantain soup!!! They also have the best Guanabana juice en leche I tried anywhere in Colombia ! Johana was lovely with the service, answering all our questions about the food and it's origins. Recommend sitting on the balconies.

Filomena is a charming eatery that exudes the colonial charm of Barichara. Despite offering fast food, it serves as a social hub, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant offers a delightful combination of tasty food and casual, welcoming service. It is known for serving the best sandwiches in Barichara, with carefully crafted paninis being its specialty. The limited menu does not detract from the overall experience, which includes excellent service and a dedicated area for children.

I got the veggie burger which came with French fries. The size of the burger was about double what I was expecting. There's a lot of food here, almost enough for two people. There's a lot of choices on the menu, nearly all of it fast food. There's a full page for vegetarians to choose from. Prices moderate.
Maynard D — Google review
Tasty and creative burgers. The place is a colonial inner patio full of little antique things that give it a lot of soul and make it a very nice eating experience. The food is delicious. The staff is super friendly. We had some live music from local musicians and they were great too, definitely worth tipping them.
Diego V — Google review
I went here today (06.01.18). The place is very beautiful, but the meat had a terrible taste and smell. When we politely told this to the owners, they were very rude and told us "if you don't like our food, that's not our problem". I've been reviewing a lot of different restaurants in a lot of different countries, but this has been one of probably the worst costumer services I have experienced, period. I would strongly advice to avoid this place. How you treat your clients says everything about the quality of your restaurant.

Elvia Restaurante offers a magical and welcoming experience in Barichara. The European-style chefs create exceptional dishes, with every detail reflecting the essence of family. The restaurant's vegan options are delicious, accompanied by homemade sodas. While observing the chefs at work can be slightly distracting, the creativity and high standards of the food make it one of Colombia's best restaurants.
Wonderful experience! The dishes were made with a great combination of flavours and textures and some great techniques. The service was excellent in all regards especially in time and attentiveness. My group ordered appetisers and one main dish and dessert!

You get what you pay for. Food, wine, service and atmosphere were excellent. Portions were a little small, and prices are much higher than you find in smaller towns in Colombia. However, the preparation and presentation was gourmet. Reservations highly recommend.

Amazing food! Best restaurant in Barichara. Everything was delicious and unique. The vegetable fagotto and the chocolate crepe are to die for... Highly recommend

The place is nice, food wasn’t that good, was salty, the entrance came at the same time than the main dish and service isn’t great at all! Quite disappointed of this place due to how famous it was in Barichara
Alejandra B — Google review
When we arrived the place was already really busy. The waiter advised us that the food might take quite long as they were understaffed, Despite this warning we decided to stay as the restaurant looked nice. Indeed, we had to wait for our order almost 1h, but it was worth the wait. The salads and fagottos were really delicious, and the desserts amazing! The waiter was attentive and friendly.

Great vegetarian dinner! Light and tasteful. We ate a salad and tomato soup as starter, then shared a main dish - a sort of wrap, but better 😋.

This place was an absolute treasure to find after a long day of traveling. The place itself is so lovely as an environment and it has tons of vegetarian options. We ate tomato soup, the salad with lentil croquettes, fagotto noa and curried veggies and rice. All of it was very good and they had real hot sauce!! Def recommend especially for weary vegetarian travelers that want some vegetables!

Fabulous place…. A bit secretive…. But that adds to the sense of occasion. Stunning natural food which is really tasteful and beautifully presented. Lovely couple running a small, quiet and very beautiful restaurant.

Oh my god this place is unbelievable. I've been living in Colombia for two years and this is my favorite restaurant so far. It reminds me of a few of my favorite places in bogota where the food and environment and everything are absolutely incredible and nothing is fancy just for fancy sake. I would be delighted to pay 100.000 cop for one of these meals, but remarkable our absolutely incredible brunch was only 45.000. I can't say enough about how awesome my experience was.

Nestled in the charming town of Barichara, Gringo Mike's Barichara offers a delightful fusion of American and traditional cuisine that is sure to please any palate. With its cozy ambiance complemented by soothing music, this eatery provides a warm and inviting atmosphere where friendly staff are eager to serve you. The extensive menu features mouthwatering hamburgers, fresh salads, and authentic Mexican dishes, making it an ideal spot for post-hike refueling or casual dining.
We come from US and we were craving for some American food. Luckily we came across this place. Amazing burger, beats any burger I have ate. Ambience is excellent, drink was great Highly recommended
Nagesh N — Google review
Gringo Mike's, a popular spot in Barichara, is renowned for its burgers and mother dough pizzas. While the pizzas have garnered praise, my recent experience with the burgers was a bit disappointing. I opted for a burger topped with gorgonzola and jalapeños, a combination that sounded promising. However, the flavors were not well-balanced, and the saltiness of the cheese overpowered the other ingredients. The overall experience was less enjoyable than I had anticipated. On the bright side, the tropical juices were refreshing and delicious. The staff was attentive and provided excellent service. If you're visiting Barichara, give Gringo Mike's pizzas a chance, as they seem to be the real star of the show. As for the burgers, perhaps a different topping choice might yield a more favorable result.
Andrea B — Google review
I came in when both Mike and Carlos were there. Not only did I not receive a greeting from either, I could not get out a word out of Carlos. I speak fluent Spanish and was shocked that Carlos ignored the several innocent questions I asked about the owner and the establishment. So sad, and a little bit ironic, don’t you think, that as a gringo I get the most inhospitable service in the two weeks I have been traveling in the country? The gals upstairs were cheerful and served me a nice mojito.
Julie R — Google review
I would have never gone there if it wasn’t because some locals recommended, to be honest. The name is not appealing at all for my taste. However, the service was top, the location and atmosphere incredible, a place that does not match the name at all. The menu, tho, is what is expected to be, a big north american menu, and for that; they’re really good as well.

Great pizza and salad. The service was also superb! Margaritas were very good and had a kick. The menu has lots of options. Would definitely come back.

Weird differences in quality. Been there twice. First visit was great. Second visit two days later probably a different chef working. Food was bland. Even the very same dish was made differently and tasted bad. Lack of consistency and standards. It felt like a different restaurant. Still nice environment and people

If you find yourself in Barichara, make sure to stop by Nativa Poke y Café for a delightful culinary experience. This charming venue offers an array of poke bowls that are not only visually appealing but also bursting with flavor. The trout poke bowl is a standout, showcasing fresh local ingredients like avocados and lettuce, all beautifully presented. The atmosphere is equally inviting; the spacious setting combined with soothing music creates a tranquil vibe perfect for relaxation or catching up with friends.
it’s great to find these kind of places here in a beautiful town as Barichara is. We arrived as the first customers but it was full in a second, the bowls we ordered were the trout one and the chicken one, very good both of them. the kombucha offered was very nice. the atmosphere and design of the place is chill and calm and fresh.

I've never experienced a coffee shop with such a calm spacious inclusive vibe as this. The music the atmosphere the tables the spacious environment and the books and coffee ALL had an element of rich flavor and tranquility that will keep me coming back and recommending this place. That specialty coffee is from their family farm and They also have a great menu. I'm going to come back and try each of the dishes just because the vibe here is perfect. Thanks for the great customer service and conversation to the owner as well.

High-end, clean, chilled vibes. Good vegan options (including tofu) as well as meat and fish. I went twice; once for lunch and I had a poke bowl and once for dinner, I had the mango ceviche and the noodles. $81,000 for 2 course dinner with a beer was pricey for Colombia but it was really tasty and fresh. I recommend :)
Lizzie S — Google review
Great to have heaps of food options while visiting Barichara. Awesome they choose to offer Poke bowls! Venue is also very appealing, amazing tunes playing all night as well. We had noodles and the trout poke. Nice presentation, good mix of textures and best of all, great taste. Sometimes they drown your food in Mayo and Sriracha, but here is not the case (and we appreciated it!!!). You will have a chance to taste amazing local avocados, lettuce & onions. There's no tuna options here, instead the serve really good tasting regional trout. Tofu add-ons available, but I guess it is still difficult to source because it costs the same as meat options. Service was great, vibe was warm and welcoming. Highly recommended

L.K. R — Google review
Nice poker bowls, with well prepared ingredients. The tofu and mango were delicious. They have not one but two vegetarian options! It would be nice if the bowls came with a specific dressing. You just get bottles of soy and hot sauce on the side. The pickled cabbage was a bit sour, maybe they could put a little less of it. Still a good and reasonably priced lunch option. I would come again.

In search of an authentic dining experience in a traditional town, I stumbled upon La Peñita & Bachue, a local restaurant that stood out amidst the fancy international establishments. The beef rib broth I tried was both flavorful and plentiful, served by a delightful lady. Additionally, their coffee was a pleasant surprise. This place exudes warmth and tradition through its food and service, without forcing you to withdraw money constantly.
I was looking for a traditional restaurant in a traditional town, after skipping international restaurants with fancy looking plates I found this one. I had the beef rib broth, it was tasty an generous served by a lovely lady. Coffee also was a nice surprise. Here you feel the warm and tradition of food and service. And you won't be heading to the nearest ATM to keep going on your trip. Just perfect.
Luis L — Google review
If Anthony Bourdain was still alive, he most probably would have loved this place not just because of its cuisine, but for the folkloric ambience and the honesty of its kind service... La Peñita Bachué is THE spot for those who know where to eat the most tender and delicious goat to taste in eastern Colombia, and where it is done under the real tradition of Santander... Goat cheese is a must try with arepas, as well as the masato (and, if you like soups, the rib broth is an unmissable bet)... The young lady attending was super nice, and the old one —the owner– is not only an awesome cook but the personification of cuteness... Eating anywhere in Barichara was a pleasant experience during our stay in town, but gastronomically speaking, coming to La Peñita was the best decision we made in terms of authenticity, quality and pricing... Though small, the restaurant itself is a landmark no one should miss when visiting the region.
Tzeitel T — Google review
Authentic and super delicious restaurant, I took the arepa con queso y carne and almuerzo of Cordero encebollando which both were superb!!! They even sell cheese products of goats, which look incredibly boutique and good.

The short rib broth was out of this world! Delicious traditional food! The lady serving it was so sweet and kind, atmosphere cute and cozy. I came back several times. Awesome place. Check out their cheese selection.

We had a delicious breakfast here: traditional Santanderean fare with high quality ingredients and prepared and presented perfectly. The hot chocolate was excellent. We had the tamal (excellent!) and the caldo de huevo (also delicious, especially with a dash of ají). The prices are more than reasonable and the señora running the restaurant is lovely.
Miguel P — Google review
The place is like arriving at home. The good is delicious, the service is excellent, and the prices are just perfect. I ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner here, and I could only think about buying more cheese from them. Gladys, the chef, is such a nice lady.

The best breakfast place I have had in all Santander BY FAR. We ordered the Tamal, Caldo de Costilla, a Hot Chocolate, and Coffee. The food came with an Arepa and we purchased a Feta made w Goat milk, AMAZING COMBO. Honestly couldn’t have had a better traditional breakfast.
Eli W — Google review
Lovely owner that is really accommodative. The rib soup (caldo de costillas) is huge and well-made. I find the cheese in this region rather bland and arepa is not my thing but that does not mean they don't do these well. I also thoroughly enjoyed the fermented masato which surprised the skeptical locals! And gosh this place is so cheap in my experience of being a tourist in Colombia!

Independencia "cocina y sazón" is a delightful Colombian restaurant that offers good, attractive, and affordable experiences. With two outdoor patio areas, customers can enjoy a scenic view while relishing the excellent value for money. The service is prompt and friendly, serving beer in chilled glasses. The establishment has earned four stars because of its breathtaking vistas. Whether it's day or night, Independencia is the perfect spot to unwind with a refreshing drink or savor a delectable dinner.
There is a reason restaurants like this consistently score high. Food, service and prices all excellent and second to none. And the atmosphere? If you sit outside, there is a spectacular view of the valley and mountains! It is like being at a fancy resort and they should charge extra for sitting on balcony but they don’t! Should be 6 stars. Could not be happier. It is a little farther from Central Park but totally worth it! The soft playing reggae music just sent the experience over the top.

We came here 2 days in a row for lunch, that explains how good this place is! Plenty of food options and even though not much vegetarian options, we asked them to switch the chorizo in the arepa appetizer to avocado and they happily did it. We also tried the seafood patacones and pasta del huerto, very delicious as well. We also love the guanabana juice but we found the mora juice to be too watery The service is perfect, somehow most of the waiters here speak English which is very rare in Colombia. They always carry a smile on their face. The food came very quick as well, like within 10 minutes after we ordered. Last but not least, the view 😍

A Feast with a View 👀 Independencia is a delightful restaurant in Barichara that offers a diverse menu, catering to a wide range of tastes. From traditional Colombian dishes to Mediterranean-inspired creations, there's something for everyone. While I enjoyed the plantain dish, I found it to be a bit overloaded with way too many sauces making it overly salty. However, the breathtaking view of the mountains more than made up for it. It's a truly magical setting to enjoy a meal. I do recommend their natural juices. They were fenomenal! The staff was friendly and helpful, especially when it came to making recommendations for larger groups. If you're visiting Barichara, I recommend checking out Independencia. The stunning views and diverse menu make it a memorable dining experience.
