Canaima National Park in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Canaima National Park, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Canaima National Park is known for its vast tabletop mountains (tepuis), including Mount Roraima, and for Angel Falls, the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall. The landscape combines dense rainforest, savanna, rivers, and tannin-stained lagoons framed by striking rock formations. Visitors typically explore by boat and small aircraft due to the park’s remote location, adding to its sense of isolation and wilderness. The area is also home to Pemon Indigenous communities, whose settlements and guides play a central role in visits to the park.
With favorites like Gran Sabana, Angel Falls, and Arapan Merú, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees.0 To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Nature & Parks
Angel Falls, also known as Salto Angel in Spanish, is a breathtaking natural wonder located in Venezuela. Standing at an impressive 979 meters tall, it is recognized as the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall and is approximately 16 times taller than Niagara Falls. The falls cascade down the steep sides of the tepuis, offering a mesmerizing sight amidst lush rainforests and sheer cliffs.
Seeing Angel Falls was a truly incredible experience. Located deep in the Venezuelan jungle, it's the world's tallest waterfall. The journey to get there was an adventure itself, involving a plane ride and a boat trip through lush, untouched nature. The waterfall plunges almost a kilometer down from a tabletop mountain, and seeing it in person was awe-inspiring. The sound of the water hitting the rocks far below and the sight of the endless cascade was mesmerizing. Hiking to the base of the falls and feeling the mist was unforgettable. Angel Falls is a remote, magical destination that offers an adventure of a lifetime.

The recent helicopter flight, which cost 500 dollars per person, provided a truly remarkable scenic view of the waterfall. We were fortunate enough to see not only Salto Angel Falls but also numerous other waterfalls, which were referred to as "ghost waterfalls" as they only appear during rainfall. The following day, I embarked on a six-hour boat trip from Ara Meru lodge to a camp, where we spent the night in hammocks. It was an unforgettable experience, and I would advise bringing mosquito repellent. From the camp, it's a three-hour round trip hike to Angel Falls. As a helicopter pilot, I had the incredible opportunity to fly over Canaima National Park, departing from Salto Angel, and as they prepared a surprise with dual control for me. It's better than any dream I've ever had in my life.

One of the best experiences in my life - all the way from leaving the resort around 4:30 am in the small boats, the two hours hike up the mountains and then arriving at this wonder of the world -WOW 🤩🥰

Travelling to Angel Falls can be a real adventure. First, the flight in a small plane from Ciudad Bolivar to Canaima, with amazing views of tepuis (table mountains) and forest below. The next day we travelled along the river for a few hours in a small motorised canoe. Not that comfortable but the scenery of lush rainforest and sheer cliffs with falls made it memorable. Slept in hammocks at a rather basic campsite across from the falls. For special effects we had lightening flashes light up the falls! Another time it was a full moon. To get close to the immensity of the 900m high falls, we crossed the river and did a short hike up to a viewpoint. The slow trip back to Canaima was followed by visits to several amazing waterfalls in the area. Worth staying a few days... Those pressed for time are known to helicopter in & out - personally I'm a fan of slow travel.

(Translated by Google) A wonderful place, it connects you with nature as you delve into the southern part of the Auyantepui. The hike has a certain degree of difficulty, passing by various waterfalls and pools, and is very enjoyable. The hotel has a well-equipped landing strip for small planes. Mountain peak
Chimata Tepuy is one of the renowned table-top mountains located in the Guiana Highlands of South America, particularly in Venezuela and western Guyana. The term "tepui" translates to "house of the gods" in the native language of the Pemon, who inhabit the Gran Sabana region. These tepuis are often isolated entities, hosting a distinct variety of endemic flora and fauna.
a table-top mountain or mesa found in the Guiana Highlands of South America, especially in Venezuela and western Guyana. The word tepui means "house of the gods" in the native tongue of the Pemon, the indigenous people who inhabit the Gran Sabana. Tepuis tend to be found as isolated entities rather than in connected ranges, which makes them the host of a unique array of endemic plant and animal species. Some of the most outstanding tepuis are Neblina, Autana, Auyantepui and Mount Roraima. They are typically composed of sheer blocks of Precambrian quartz arenite sandstone that rise abruptly from the jungle, giving rise to spectacular natural scenery. Auyantepui is the source of Angel Falls, the world's tallest waterfall There are 115 such mesas in the Gran Sabana in the south-east of Venezuela on the border with Guyana and Brazil, where the highest concentration of tepuis is found. The precipitous mountains tower over the surrounding area by up to 1,000 meters. Tepuis range in elevation from 1,000–3,000 metres (3,300–9,800 ft).[1] Because of their great age, some tepuis exhibit surface features and subsurface caves typical of karst topography, formed in more water-soluble rocks such as limestone. Caves here include the 671 meters (2,201 ft) deep Abismo Guy Collet, the deepest quartzite cave in the world. Some of the mesas are pocked with giant sinkholes up to 300 meters (980 ft) in diameter and with sheer walls up to 300 meters (980 ft) deep. These sinkholes are formed when the roofs of tunnels carved by underground rivers collapse.
