Points of Interest & Landmarks
Parque Nacional Los Glaciares is a vast protected area in southern Argentina, spanning 7269 sq km. Divided into two zones, the park is accessed via the town of El Calafate and features the impressive Perito Moreno glacier as its star attraction. This advancing glacier can be observed from boardwalks, cruise boats, or by trekking across the ice with a local tour operator.
Absolutely stunning. This is one of the most special locations in the world and should be on everyone’s bucket list. Nowhere is so iconic yet so peaceful. It is almost impossible to see everything here because you will just spend all of your time in one location once you realize that it’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever been

A must see when you visit El Calafate! The glaciers are breathtaking! Pictures truly cannot put into perspective how massive they are! My husband and I walked all the different trails and it wasn’t very difficult. Great way to get more angles of the glaciers while you’re there. It was so fascinating to hear them cracking and see ice fall into the water. *NOTE* be prepared with your money for the tickets. Best check online for pricing before you go. Foreigners pay more, so make sure you’re viewing the correct pricing online.

So glad we made the drive to see this incredible glacier! We saw and heard some calving. Nothing large, but very interesting. One thing to note is that the restaurant and park seems to close at 4:30pm. I would also save the miradors until after viewing the glacier.
Shyla T — Google review
You can visit from El Calafate. I recommend doing the tour that has the combination of: 1. Glacier boat tour 2. Trekking On the glacier 3. Glacier walkways There is a fee required to visit this park.
Vu D — Google review
Wonderful national park with stunning views of the glaciers. Long walking paths available on well maintained metal walkways. Lots of steps and elevation up and down but walkways ensure a safe slip free walking surface. Provides fairly up close views from a large number of lookout points.

Established in 1937, this UNESCO World Heritage site spans approximately 7,269 square kilometers. Among its highlights is the iconic Perito Moreno Glacier, a stunning ice formation that stretches 250 square kilometers and rises up to 70 meters above the waterline. The park is also home to the striking Cerro Fitz Roy, a peak that reaches 3,405 meters and offers some of the most awe-inspiring views in the region. How can this be so wonderful?

Nestled within the stunning Los Glaciares National Park, Toro Bay is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Accessible exclusively through the Mayo Spirit Trek excursion, this beautiful location offers serene walks with breathtaking views that are perfect for all skill levels. Glacier
Nature & Parks
Geologic Formations
Perito Moreno Glacier, named after the Argentine explorer Francisco Moreno, is a massive natural wonder located in Los Glaciares National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field and is the third largest body of freshwater ice in the world. Stretching 30 kilometers in length and 5 kilometers in width, with a height reaching 60 meters, it's an impressive sight to behold.
It is a miracle page of nature that you must see at least once. The moment you see it, you will feel as if your head and heart are being blown away. The colors of the glaciers and the pieces that fell off when you see them up close while riding a cruise ship are mysterious. It was also a great joy to see the different sides while trekking around. The sound of the glaciers breaking off and falling was magnificent.
Hyekyung K — Google review
Wonderful! I enjoyed looking at it from different places inside the park but also I did the ice trekking 💯 I was there in late December, the ice trekking was expensive but was good experience! At the end of the ice walking we got some wishky with the ice from the glacier 🫢
Lesly Z — Google review
Such a unique view! We went on the boat ride and it was amazing, we saw two falling. Only bad thing is that it’s crowded.. so that can ruin your peace. Either way, beautiful views.
Vanessa M — Google review
Visiting this park and seeing the glacier was probably one of the most unique and incredible experiences of my life. Watching the massive ice formations up close is already breathtaking, but hearing the glacier crack, break, and fall is something truly unforgettable — a sound I will never forget. It’s a powerful reminder of the beauty of nature, and at the same time a little sad, knowing how climate change threatens wonders like this. Walking around the park was equally enjoyable, as there are many different trails and viewpoints where you can observe the glacier from various heights and angles. Every spot offers a new perspective, making the visit feel fresh and exciting throughout. Absolutely worth experiencing at least once in your lifetime.
Nataliia T — Google review
Very stunning view. One of the most beautiful things I have ever experienced. If you are a nature-lover, then this is a must see experience.
Philip L — Google review
One of the most unique tidewater glaciers in the world as it offers a very rare viewing experience. To start this is deep blue not like most alpine glaciers which are a grey hue from it being covered in silt. This also does not require a wobbly boat to get to and others that offer boats cannot get that close because the boats have to be careful of calving icebergs. Here you can walk up close on the beautifully built viewing platform. Getting here is fairly easy as well since it’s a short ride from El Calafate which is well connected via buses from either puerto Natales or Ushuaia or any of the Patagonian towns. You did not need a tour guide. It’s walkable once you arrive at the location and it’s well established and built. It’s worth the trip from Calafate.
Avrom W — Google review
One of the best destinations you must visit once in your life. It s much bigger and amazing than in photos.
RotaREE T — Google review
The moment it comes into view, it's a massive, living beast of brilliant white and incredible blue, stretching out further than your eyes can even take in. The ice wall itself, around 70 metres tall, rising out of the turquoise Lake Argentino, feels almost impossible. You're just a speck, but you're connected to something ancient and immense. But what really makes it mind blowing is the constant, dramatic show it puts on. You don't just look at the glacier, you listen to it as well. The air is alive with groans, cracks, and then, out of nowhere, the roar of ice breaking off. Watching a piece crash into the lake, sending huge splashes and a deafening boom echoing everywhere, is a moment you'll never forget and gives you a shot of adrenaline you won't forget. The walkways are fantastic, giving you insane views from every angle. The blues in the ice vary from dark sapphire to aquamarine, changing with every shift in light. Visiting Perito Moreno is an experience that hits all your senses and will stick with you forever. You'll walk away with a smile on your face afterwards, carrying the memory of a powerful, humbling, and genuinely awe-inspiring example of a wonder of our world. If you can get the chance to visit, grab it with both hands.

Restaurant
The Perito Moreno Glacier, situated in the Los Glaciares National Park in southwest Argentina, is a major tourist attraction. Within the park, there are two restaurants offering a variety of food options such as salads, sandwiches, coffee, and pastries. Despite being expensive due to its monopoly status, the cafeteria provides filling meals and quick bites. The area also features a souvenir shop with reasonable prices for items like coffee and pastries.
food was delicious! and jessica was our server, she was attentive and very friendly!

Very quick service despite the line. Decent prices. They have vegan and gluten-free options, but they were out of everything vegan and count not make it. After asking further, they offered some sad-looking gluten-free sandwiches (their vegan options are mostly gluten-free) or to make the veggie sandwich without cheese. Luckily there was no cheese and the onion and sweet potato were well-cooked. That’s all it had though. Some vegan options here which is nice, but don’t depend on them.
David Y — Google review
There are two restaurants at the Perito Moreno Glacier area in Los Glaciares National park. This is the simpler option, even though it's expensive because it's a monopoly. It's a big cafeteria with a good amount of quick bites but very filling meals. It was very crowded at lunch time with huge lines, so, if you can, prepare yourself to go there at off peak times. Service was good. The place has nice views of the forest at the back, but you can't see the glacier from there (some photos here are probably from the nicer more expensive restaurant close to the lake). The restrooms were big and clean. They do have a gluten free meal (2 sandwiches: ham+cheese and chicken), both are very bland in taste, but for the gluten sensitive-non celiac, there are the stew/chowder options which are much tastier.
Felipe C — Google review
Excellent food with an amazing view of the Patagonia glacier.

It is a great place with some good options like Salads, sandwiches, coffee, soft drinks etc. It also has a gift shop and free toilets.
Sweeton D — Google review
They only have paper/ plastic cups, which guest take into the national park and then litter. How about a deposit system? Or just using normal porcelain cups and people just have their drink in the cafe. It is horrible to actively contribute to climate change and waste in nature as a cafe in a national park.
Anna B — Google review
Bad experience. Bus picks up at 19.20 and bar closed at 17.30!!! It was cold and rainning outside and couldnt even get a coffee. Should improve the time if you national park is open until 19hs.

Nestled in the far southern reaches of Patagonia, the Magallanes Peninsula is a breathtaking destination that offers an unforgettable glimpse into nature's wonders. Just 78 kilometers from El Calafate, this area is home to the magnificent Perito Moreno Glacier, known for its dynamic ice movements. Restaurant
Restó del Glaciar Perito Moreno is the only dining option within the National Park, situated in front of the glacier and just a short distance from the walkways. This heated establishment offers restroom facilities and free entry. Visitors are welcome to bring their own meals and enjoy them while taking in panoramic views of Perito Moreno through its windows. The restaurant operates daily from 11:30 am to 4 pm, providing a convenient spot for visitors to dine amidst stunning natural surroundings.
Awesome view. We didn't eat there. The place is gorgeous though.

We stopped at the restaurant for lunch as it was included as part of our trip to see the glacier. The three course menu was good (preselected for us but they may also offer an a la carte menu) and the staff were fantastic - attentive and friendly. You also get a nice view of the glacier from the restaurant.

Their pasta with chicken and vegetables was flavorful. Their dessert was delicious and not too sweet. The partial view of the Perito Moreno Glacier, snow capped mountains, lake and foliage were beautiful. I wish that they seated us by the windows.

An expensive day out but worth it. Don’t buy the tours for the boat or the hiking. The normal glacier is just fine.

There are no other restaurants after doing the glacier cliff walk so there is no competition. The service and views are nice the the food was mediocre at best.

Beautiful view and great food offerings, we ran out of time to eat but just had time to get some water and a quick decaf coffee with milk. The option of Whisky with Glacier Ice is a fun option that we couldn't try out since time was tight and we were driving. This place takes full advantage of the view, which is breathtaking.

So I actually never dined here, but this restaurant had a great view of the glaciar. I think a lot of people use this place as a public restroom before the tour begins. I ordered a cup of coffee and it tasted good. I did see a party going on when I was there, and the food smelled really good.

Hiking Trails
Laguna de los Tres is a must-do hike in El Chalten, Patagonia, offering a comprehensive experience of the region's natural beauty. The trail begins conveniently from the town and leads hikers through forests, meadows, and up to the base of Cerro Fitz Roy. The challenging ascent rewards with breathtaking views of Mount Fitz Roy. This famous trek covers diverse landscapes including glacial valleys, Lenga tree forests, and stunning glaciers.
Came to El Chalten to do specifically this hike and the views did not disappoint at all! You can either start in town or book a shuttle to bring you a bit out of town. It’s about 25 min ride and the walk is a lot easier and you see a different landscape. I marked it on the map: you start at H. El Pilar. Also clear view to the glacier. Highly recommend this route. The last part is tough and you have to be very careful. But all the pain and sweat will be worth it once you reach your destination ❤️ it’s a once in a lifetime experience for sure!
Elisa — Google review
This is one of the most beautiful places in the world, an absolute bucket list hike. You absolutely can’t go wrong here, but this was by far the busiest trail we experienced in the park, so be prepared for some crowds.
Cale O — Google review
We did Laguna de los Tres and Torre Lagoon hikes, so basically a full loop. It took us 2 hrs 20 mins in moderate tempo to get to Laguna de los Tres and 5 hrs 30 mins for full loop with stops for food and pictures. We arrived at 9 am and it wasn't crowded. Some crowds at the final climb to Laguna de los Tres and back, but it's manageable.
Irina K — Google review
A 3-4 hour hike from El Chalten town. The danger is slippery walks, so take your time and watch your step. It is a steep climb. Also the sun can be strong, so protect yourselves with sunglasses, a long hat or umbrella. Bring an extra water bottle.
Vu D — Google review
Unique experience! Such a beautiful hike with great views along the way. Although the last part is hard and physical. But once you get to the top and see the Fitz Roy, you'll be amazed. Take your time and caution, and be aware that the weather can change quickly.

El Galpón del Glaciar

Hotel
El Galpón del Glaciar is a charming rustic hotel with a picturesque view of the lake and cozy rooms. Guests can enjoy various nature activities, dine at the bar/restaurant, and savor breakfast while taking in the serene surroundings. The farm day excursion offers an insightful experience into the area's history and local culture. While staying here, visitors can appreciate the stunning views over the lake and estate. The staff members are highly praised for their exceptional service, making guests' stays truly magical.
While staying nearby, we wanted to do horseback riding with our 6.5-year old, which not all the estancias seem to do (age restrictions). Via email and WhatsApp, I was able to connect with Agustina at El Galpón del Glaciar. She suggested a way to do this that would be safe and fun for all, and wow did they really deliver. Our guides for the ride itself were professional, warm, and a lot of fun. Our daughter had a blast. And we got to see the landscape in a way that really brought it all to life. Cannot recommend Agustina and El Galpón del Glaciar enough for this sort of excursion. If we make it back to Patagonia this will be on our list to do again, and we’d certainly spend a night or two there (we were in town for this trip so cannot comment on the rooms).
Daniel T — Google review
Very nice location for nature lovers. Beautiful lake view, birds all around and very quiet. The hotel itself is simple; the room was small but we had a nice lake view. The bathroom was a bit smelly and one morning there was no water. It came back in the course of the morning though. Breakfast is ok. Eggs were there on the first day; the other days we had to ask for them. Staff is friendly and helpful. What is simply not good is the price level, as food is totally overpriced and so is the accommodation. Compared to 4-star hotels in El Calafate El Galpón is way too expensive for what it offers. Plus, you have to calculate the transfer by taxi (if your don’t have a car) which costs you 30$ extra one way if you want to have dinner in town.
Renate L — Google review
We had an unforgettable stay at El Galpón del Glaciar! Everything was perfect — the kindness and attention of all the staff, the cozy rooms, the charming facilities, and those stunning views where you can even spot condors flying so close to you. Truly magical! The countryside afternoon learning about the sheep and life at the estancia was such a special and authentic experience. A special thanks to Agustina and Marcos for their outstanding hospitality — they made us feel completely at home, we felt spoiled in the best way and surrounded by such natural beauty. We didn’t want to leave, but we’ll definitely be back soon! This place offers a one-of-a-kind Patagonian experience you simply can’t miss! 💙❄️

Absolutely incredible! The views are breathtaking, the service unbeatable, the food delicious, the rooms were really spacious and nice, location is really convenient… everything was absolutely fantastic, we had a lovely time. (If I had to say one thing, the breakfast is fine but could ibe better).
Gemma G — Google review
Cottage style accommodation - far away from El Calafate but that is okay not much to miss there. Nice when you have your own car. We love the nature, view and quietness. However it means you have to dine there which is okay but nothing special. And sometimes expensive like for a local sweet fish. Because of the cold climate also in summer it is windy and unfortunately no sun beds are necessary or available. We had a room ensuite - with two big comfy chairs viewing the lake.

Experience of a lifetime! My husband and I decided to get married in Patagonia after falling in love with Argentina on a previous trip and could not be happier with our choice to have our wedding at El Galpón del Glacier. Marco, Agustina, Tomas and their team went above and beyond to provide us with the very best 3-day wedding experience we could’ve ever dreamed of. Their team did exceptional work. They exceeded all of our expectations, and we could not have had the incredible wedding we did without them. After looking at several venue options, we decided we wanted an authentic Patagonian estancia experience and were recommended to consider El Galpón del Glacier- we are so glad that we did! Our wedding turned into a three-day event at the estancia, complete with many activities for our guests to enjoy like horseback riding, a sheep herding demonstration, a rehearsal dinner, and hiking around the property. Throughout the 3 days at the estancia, the entire team went way above and beyond to ensure our guests needs were met and exceeded all expectations. They anticipated all of our needs and truly made our experience magical. We dreamed of a unique and unforgettable experience, and their team made it happen. The restaurant onsite is also wonderful and a 10/10! The beverage selection was great and they offered many delicious and authentic meal options. If you’re considering staying at an estancia in El Calafate, I HIGHLY recommend booking at El Galpón del Glacier, you won’t be disappointed! You’ll be making the best decision for your special trip and if getting married, your special day!

Amazing location overlooking Lago Argentino in stunning Patagonia . The staff are attentive but not intrusive. The estancia has a lot of land so you can walk along the lake or the interior . We had a wonderful tour of the estate on our 2.5 hour horseback trip . Patagonia is much more expensive than other parts of Argentina. We felt this ranch offered good value and a really memorable stay Luisa and Michael

Visited in the beginning of February. I think it's the best place to stay in El Calafate. It offers the best price among the countryside hotels. It is located halfway from El Calafate to the glaciers, so if you book an early morning boat trip you won't wait for all the other tourists to join your bus. The room has all the necessary staff you need. It might be a bit cold in the room, but you can ask to add some heating. The interior is very lovely, it has lots of little things that make it feel cozy, like paintings, etc. It also has a nice terrace where you could sit with a book and have a nice view. One thing, if your room is located on the first floor, then other guests can see what you're doing while walking by. The bathroom interior seems a bit outdated but everything worked fine. The restaurant food is good, most dishes are made out of guanacos (local wild animals), there's also soup (!), but personally I expected a little bit more tasty dishes. The personnel are very nice, they smile a lot, try to help with everything, and even let us make the late checkout for some symbolic price. Unfortunately we couldn't have a chance to take part in the activities the hotel offers (like sky watching, etc), we would certainly stay the second time here.

Punta Bandera is a private port located 47 km from the city of El Calafate, offering stunning views. Visitors must pay an entrance fee to the National Parks, which costs $2,500.00 for Argentine residents in October 2023. However, it's possible to use the same ticket purchased for PM Glacier at half price. The port provides ample space and a quick entry process with a QR code system in place.
Punta Bandera: A picturesque spot known for its striking lake views and serene environment. Often used as a gateway for exploring the stunning landscapes of Patagonia, it provides access to glacier tours and scenic boat rides.

EOLO - Patagonia´s Spirit

Hotel
Nestled in the windswept La Anita valley, 30km west of El Calafate, EOLO - Patagonia´s Spirit is a remote and luxurious lodge that perfectly blends into the arid Patagonian steppe. The rustic design with corrugated zinc walls and gabled roofs creates a homely atmosphere, complemented by refurbished antiques and leather upholstery.
Great experience! We formed our trip around their availability and it was well worth ( turns out that many other people did the same thing). Excursions are well organized, all inclusive with excellent food. Considering remote location, number of people working and quality of food the price is well deserved.

Five stars isn’t enough. Everything about it was perfect. The staff were amazing. Friendly, helpful, and proactive. They handle any request with aplomb. The location and views are stunning. The facility and rooms were luxurious but at the same time you never got the sense that you were anywhere but Patagonia. This place is special.

Each bite was a culinary delight, adding to the overall experience. The staff, especially those who served the meals, was great! Eolo is truly a gem. If you're looking for an unforgettable escape, especially for a special occasion, this is the place to go. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect start to our married life. Thank you for making our honeymoon a dream come true!

A dream of a place. The house and the surroundings look exaclty as pictured: a beautiful house in the middle of the immense patagonian landscape. Upon arriving you also verify that everything is very well kept and beautiful. Service is top notch, and the food amazing. Can’t find a single negative point.

Our stay at Eolo was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the breathtaking views that surrounded the property. The hotel itself is a stunning blend of luxury and comfort, with beautifully designed rooms that offer sweeping panoramas of the Patagonian landscape. Waking up to such incredible scenery was truly a highlight of our trip. The amenities at Eolo provide everything you could wish for. Whether it was lounging in the main living room sharing mate or enjoying the serene outdoor spaces, every aspect of the property was designed for relaxation and enjoyment. Dining at Eolo was a remarkable experience. The service was unmatched, with each meal crafted to perfection and accompanied by an impressive selection of wines. A standout moment of our stay was the wine tasting led by Rafael, whose expertise and passion made it an unforgettable experience. He took us on a journey through flavors, enhancing our appreciation for the local wines and providing insights that truly elevated our dining experience. Overall, our time at Eolo Hotel was a life-changing experience. The combination of stunning views, luxurious amenities, and exceptional service made this stay one we will cherish forever. I cannot recommend Eolo enough—it’s a true gem in the heart of Patagonia!

My wife and I had one of the most memorable trips of our life in large part thanks to the experience at EOLO. The manager, Valentin, and the entire EOLO crew was kind, welcoming, generous and wonderful. What a truly amazing property and staff. The resort is immaculate, the team tries to make every request possible, and we felt like they wanted our trip to be perfect. From airport transfer to custom meals, and from horseback rides to amazing massages, EOLO does it all.

EOLO is exceptional in every way. The location is perfect. The bedroom is the best designed room I have ever stayed in (I am in my mid 60’s). The room also had the best view I have ever experienced from the privacy of my own bed. The service and wines were outstanding. The menu changed every day. I extended my trip within 24 hours of arriving. It is pure delight and makes me tingle to think of it. I will return.
