Bavaro in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Bavaro, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Bávaro is known for its long stretch of soft white-sand beach and calm turquoise water, making it a classic Caribbean spot for swimming, sunbathing and water sports. The area is lined with large all-inclusive resorts, offering easy access to pools, restaurants, spas and organized activities. Snorkeling, catamaran cruises, parasailing and nearby golf courses are common draws, as are day trips to offshore islands and natural pools. Its location near Punta Cana International Airport also makes it a convenient and popular beach getaway.
With favorites like Hard Rock Cafe Punta Cana, Plaza San Juan Shopping Center, and Downtown Mall Punta Cana, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Hard Rock Cafe Punta Cana and Punto Italia so you can get the best taste of Bavaro while you’re here. Shopping mall
Shopping
Plaza San Juan Shopping Center is a vibrant indoor mall located in the heart of Punta Cana, offering a unique experience with over 69 shops and various entertainment spaces. Visitors can explore a natural park, enjoy lively bars and restaurants, and immerse themselves in Dominican culture at Las Americas. The center features an array of international brands alongside local artisanal works representing Dominican heritage. Additionally, it boasts diverse dining options including the only Burger King in the area.
It was my first time visit this shopping center. Overall it is safe and can walk around without any problem. There are security there so you feel a bit more safe. There a few shop hear and a mall which we like a little better because it got AC in and you can explore. Next door to the mall is Jumbo which is a grocery place that you can get really good local fruits that is really fresh. It totally worth the visit. It cost us only $10 for taxi driver to go there and $10 back. We ask our taxi driver to wait for us and we pay him after he drop us off at the hotel. Gratuity is a must to get great customer service so bring many one dollar bills, it does make a huge difference.

This shopping centre was a stone throw from my hotel and I did some shopping here. For someone that loves plantains; I could not resist taking a photo of these. I like that they have a few food places here. They have a Payless store, souvenir stores to get stuff, a bureau de change inside the supermarket( best rates) ; and you may also change money at the Western Union inside the pharmacy, a spa, and my favourite empanadas place ❤️❤️❤️
Olo O — Google review
Very busy area. Getting there is horrible, the traffic is upsetting. Felt like a battle trying not to get in an accident. Why aren't there street lights? As a tourist, i didnt feel safe driving in the area.
Bertha G — Google review
Very nice plaza. Has everything a tourist needs. We shopped in Super Pola and this store was enough for our 1 month stay. I used a shuttle bus that this mall offers. Very convenient.

Really nice shopping mall, they have a great variety of everything. But the part that we most enjoyed was outside of the mall there is like little shops selling souvenirs and other interesting stuff.

Coco Bongo Punta Cana, situated in the Downtown Mall of Bavaro, offers an unforgettable experience with its vibrant and entertaining live shows that combine iconic Hollywood films, Broadway musical pieces, and theater performances. This adult-only disco is known for its thrilling atmosphere and diverse admission options. It's considered the best nightclub in Punta Cana due to its language-friendly environment, top-notch security, and reasonable prices.
What an amazing experience! The show was FANTASTIC! This show had it all! From Beetlejuice, Furiosa, The Mask, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson + more. Great sets and costumes. Terrific sound system. My only suggestion is get there early if you have the standard ticket. If you can afford the upgrade to VIP DO IT! Definitely worth it
David R — Google review
Overrated and Unsafe – Think Twice Before Going! This place is seriously overrated. It was dangerously overcrowded — people were crammed in like sardines, especially around the entrance where the only bar is located. In case of an emergency, there’s no clear way out. It felt like a major safety hazard. They advertise it as an “open bar,” but there’s only one bar and it’s practically inaccessible. I couldn’t get a single drink without pushing through a sea of people. The show itself is decent — the dancers and production are good — but nothing has changed since I last went to Coco Bongo in Cancun three years ago. Even the music was the same, which made the whole experience feel stale and repetitive. Save your money and go somewhere you can actually move, dance, and enjoy yourself safely.
David H — Google review
The procedure to get a ticket is really unnecessary, takes a lot of time and is not convenient or efficient. All presentations are amazing for the mezzanine you can really enjoy the whole performance perfectly, the actors, dancers and all performers put a lot of effort for that incredible act. On the other hand, the place is so full that makes it impossible to get out, the people are soooooo push into the bar that you can barely breath no safe the quantity of people they put in this place. Honestly there should some kind of limitation or regulation. The cocktails were fine, and the food was regular.

Atmosphere was great. Loved the show a d the energy was unmatched. Definitely would not go for food but I think that's the point. Drink were pretty weak as well. But again excellent show
Shatasia J — Google review
Must see. Great show. Not really disco. But lots of fun and amazing entertainment. VIP package not needed. Not so special. Only if you want to sit down.
Kevin M — Google review
Where do I begin... it was a catastrophe from the very start! 1. Zero clarity on where to line-up to check in and then zero clarity on where to line-up to enter the venue. 2. Venue reps constantly harass you to purchase "skip the line" tickets at $15. 3. MASSIVELY overcrowded to the point it's a mass casualty incident waiting to happen. 4. Impossible to see the show if you're on the ground floor and near the centre stage. Absolutely no view of the upper stage whatsoever. 5. The acts lasted only a few minutes each. 6. The drinks are watered down. The rum had barely any taste and the vodka with mixer tasted like juice. 7. The PUSHING! I was moving from the toilet past the stairs towards the bar so I could get back to my friends. A security guard pushed me away from the stairs so I shouted at him "I'm going that way" and pointed at my friends. A second security guard then pushed me away from the stairs again as I was trying to make my way through the crowd so I turned and pushed him back (almost got myself kicked out). He shouted something at me in Spanish so I got closer to him and shouted "do NOT PUSH me" in his face then turned and moved away. If you really want to go, then maybe spending more money on an upgraded package/ticket is worth it.

Coco Bongo Disco Punta Cana is an unforgettable nightlife experience that goes far beyond a simple nightclub. From the moment you walk in, you’re transported into a world of spectacular performances, dazzling light shows, and non-stop music. The mix of live acrobatics, tribute shows to world-famous artists, and energetic DJ sets keeps the crowd dancing all night. The atmosphere is electric, with a perfect blend of tourists and locals all enjoying the party together. Drinks flow freely, the service is friendly, and the energy never drops. If you’re in Punta Cana and want an extraordinary night out filled with entertainment, dancing, and pure fun, Coco Bongo is a must-visit.

Downtown Mall Punta Cana is a newly developed indoor shopping center that has become a significant part of the evolving Punta Cana district. Opened in December 2018, this three-level mall houses over 60 stores and boasts the country's first surfing pool. Its modern indoor parking can accommodate up to 300 vehicles, making it convenient for visitors from Veron, Bavaro, Friusa, El Cortecito, and nearby hotels.
Nice mall and stores to walk around indoors and grab any essentials from the JUMBO market attached.

If you need some home comforts while on holiday you should be able to find what you need here. Or if you just need a bit of retail therapy there's shoe shops, clothing store etc.

Located inside supermarket its a Very simple mall, no food court really only dessert and café. A few Gift stores, 2 nail salon. Other basic stores.

As far as quick local stops are concerned, this small local mall is a one stop for everything from groceries to toys to cellular needs. It's actually convenient that a lot of the staff in various stores speak sufficient English to understand what you need. A quick bite or a coffee and you're off to continue your day. A definite recommend for shopping needs.

Bavaro Adventure Park in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic is a sprawling 110-acre eco-friendly park offering a wide range of exhilarating activities for the whole family. Nestled in natural woods, the park features zip lines, bungee cords, paintball, a flying simulator, Segway circuit, and more.
We attended bavaro adventure park on April 23rd under Bradley Webb. I wanted to share our experience. We arrived looking forward to a great adventure and that is exactly what we experienced. We started off on the Polaris ride with Carlos as our guide it was so fun and Carlos was great we really enjoyed the stop at the cenote and learning how it was created then onto the Dominican village and got to see the houses and culture I absolutely enjoyed trying the coffee and hot chocolate so good, and purchased some of the coconut products. Then we enjoyed a Dominican lunch loved the chicken so did my husband and our daughter it’s nice to try authentic foods in the country your visiting. We then enjoyed a nice horseback ride I love horses and being from Alberta Canada horses are our life. Next was zip lining not gonna lie I was a bit scared I’m terrified of heights but up I went first so there was no way I could back out and I absolutely loved it so did my husband and daughter, we did stop at crossing the bridge but that was by our own choice I would of kept going but that bridge was my stopping point, I was just to scared but that’s a me issue not the park issue. Then we enjoyed the lazy river and the swimming pool. My family is so glad we did this excursion it was an absolutely great day and great memories trying new things.
Lynne M — Google review
Spent most of the day here today (2 adults) the park itself is unexpectedly vast, guides are very welcoming, friendly, and very funny! We were lucky to have Carlos taking us round the resort - lovely, polite, passionate and knowledgeable gentleman. We did the buggy rides which far exceeded are expectations - plenty of time for both myself and partner to have sufficient time on the buggies to really enjoy it. Two stops - first one approximately 20 minutes at the cenotes which was fantastic and a short talk by Carlos about the history of the area was welcomed. Second stop was for lunch where there is a lovely shaded area you can enjoy a Dominican meal included in the price - as someone that doesn’t usually eat meat it was very enjoyable and we both finished the lot! The jungle river was awesome to finish off the buggies in a relaxed manner, we then headed to the waterfall where there is also a bar for refreshments. Would highly recommend and will certainly return when visiting the Dominican again! **what we didn’t realise before going was you went allowed phones at all on the buggies - however there is someone around for each activity taking plenty of photos which are a very reasonable price at the end!
Mollie B — Google review
This is definitely something the DR put together for tourist. The water areas were beautiful but if you're not a fan of bugs, the water is not for you. The pool area was the only place where the bugs was very minimal. Everything else had a lot of leaves and dead spiders, bugs, etc. Wanted to do an excursion with my daughter for her 22nd birthday but she did not do anything at this park because of the bugs. We ended up leaving early. She only did the pool. The photos they post are being but you don't see the bugs and things in the water. If you're not afraid of bugs and leaves, etc, then this is for you.

My husband and I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Bavaro Adventure Park in Punta Cana, and it was one of the highlights of our trip to the Dominican Republic. We booked the Polaris Adventure and Horseback Riding Combo, and the experience exceeded all of our expectations! From the moment we were picked up from our resort (right on time!) to the time we left, the entire day was seamless, exciting, and incredibly well organized. The check-in process at the park was smooth, and we were immediately struck by how friendly, welcoming, and professional every single staff member was. Everyone spoke great English, greeted us warmly, and made us feel like VIP guests — they looked you in the eye, asked your name, and made genuine connections. Such a rare and wonderful touch! Highlights of the Experience: • Polaris Off-Road SXS Ride: Driving through muddy jungle terrain was so much fun! It was adventurous but never felt out of control. • Blue Cenote Swim: Absolutely stunning and refreshing. A serene break during the adrenaline-packed day. • Cultural Gift Shop Stop: A great little presentation on how Dominican coffee, hot chocolate, and mamajuana are made — with tastings included! We happily purchased a few items to bring home. • Delicious Dominican Lunch: Flavorful and authentic, it was a perfect break in the day. • Zip Lining: This was my first time zip lining, and I was honestly nervous — but the staff made me feel completely safe and supported. They were serious about safety protocols, which I truly appreciated. The multiple zips, including a canopy bridge and a final splash into water, were thrilling! • Lazy River Tubing & Waterfall Pool: Such a relaxing way to wind down the day. Beautiful surroundings and just a lot of fun. Although we opted out of the horseback riding portion simply due to personal preference, it was nice to have the flexibility in the schedule. Photography & Memories: Phones weren't allowed during the adventure for safety reasons (a decision I totally respect), but they had multiple professional photographers capturing moments throughout the day. We ended up purchasing the digital photo package with 59 amazing shots — totally worth it to relive the memories! Final Thoughts: I can't recommend Bavaro Adventure Park enough. It offers a full day of adventure, culture, nature, and relaxation — all wrapped up in world-class service and hospitality. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or just looking to explore the beauty of the Dominican Republic in a safe and fun environment, this park has something for everyone. 10/10 — Would absolutely do it again!
Roxi K — Google review
From the very beginning you don’t know how to behave, what to wear, which attraction comes first or what’s next. Total chaos, the staff give conflicting information. You’re not allowed to take your phone – they say it’s for safety, but that’s not true. They just want your money. You can’t bring a phone, flip-flops, or a backpack, so you’re forced to buy a locker. Cost: $7 or $10. Photos cost $100, which is completely absurd. The buggy/Polaris ride is extremely boring, you drive in a line behind others very slowly. You must wear closed shoes, flip-flops are not allowed. The first stop is a lagoon where you’re supposed to swim… in closed shoes! You never know how much time you have or when you’re leaving for the next activity. The next stop is the “Dominican village,” which is a total scam. You’re forced to take part in a “tasting” – coffee samples like at Costco – and waste 30 minutes of your life listening to them advertise their products. Then, still soaking wet, you get back on the buggy/Polaris and continue. You end up at the lobby with no clue where to go next or what to wear. At 11:50am they take you for lunch. You wait in line, still wet, the food isn’t ready. Lunch is included in the price, but drinks are not – even water costs extra. You don’t know how much time you have to eat or what the next attraction will be. Then they finally take you to the zipline, where suddenly flip-flops are allowed. On the last line you land straight into the water, so once again you’re completely wet. Then, still dripping, you go horseback riding – this time in flip-flops. The horseback ride was terrible: lots of manure, tons of flies, very slow, too many people and way too close together. Apart from the buggy/Polaris and horses, the other attractions were actually fun, but the overall impression was terrible. One big scam.
Adrian — Google review
The rating is not for the adventure activities, but more so for the extreme disorganization with them and the rudeness of certain tour guides with me. Thomas was introduced as our tour guide but we only seen him on the buggies and didn’t see him anymore after we put on life vest for the sacred river which there was no instructions given just followed a path and follow everybody else. Nobody knew what to expect and people had on their gymshoes and didn’t get a chance to change out of them because they told us that for every activity we will come back to the lobby and you can change and go to your lockers. I have never been to a Caribbean island and felt prejudice being Black until I got to Punta Cana. I was told by Dominican Americans that Dominicans will make sure I have a good time as they love Americans. This was not my experience! I was ignored as I was by myself celebrating my birthday with a birthday shirt on. I tried to sit with other people or walk with them to make sure that I wasn’t forgotten. The direct rudeness was when I went to ride the horses. I walked the trail by myself trying to follow signs because I was told just to go and walk down that way over there. Walking through a jungle not sure where you’re going and there’s nobody else around didn’t feel secure or safe. I followed the path until I got to the barn and then I heard other people come in so I waited. I walked with the other Americans to the place where the horses were. There was a guide standing there telling us we had to put helmets on for the horses. I was the first one there in front of him. He ignored me and began to put the helmet on the young girl behind me. I didn’t think much of it, but you stood there and waited. After her, he proceeded to put the helmet on her boyfriend so I just looked at them because they were behind me so he had to step past me to do this. They walked and sat down. I’m standing by myself with him waiting for a helmet, and he starts fooling around. Now a group of guys walks up Behind me and they were just chatting and not paying attention. The guy proceeds to put the helmet on them. So I said to him, do you not see me standing here and everyone looked at me the other guides and the guest. He proceeded to not say anything, but put the helmet on the guys so I walked away and sat down and the picture you see that the photographer took is of me sitting down without a helmet on because he did not put my helmet on for the horse. When I got up To step up on the horse, the other guide says, you know you need a helmet on and he had a smirk on his face, and I looked at him and said you know good and well that he did not put a helmet on my head & you heard me say something and he said yes, but you still need one so I’ll go get you one. None of them check the rude behavior of their peers like it was common. I had to also ask the photographer to take pictures of me because he was not taking pictures of me. The famous zip lining down into the water, they let us go one at a time so that they can capture the picture of each one coming down. When I came down to the water, the photographer was standing there, looking at me, not even holding the camera up so he did not take my picture so while other people have many pictures in their package, I had 26 pictures but because they were multiples of the same shot they were only about 7. When getting my pictures, I asked the One who spoke English and was selling the pictures where are my other pictures for the other activities and he said well we are still uploading and don’t worry, you will have them sent to you in the email the next day. That is when I saw about 26 pictures of multiple shots and only about seven being different. The guides had the audacity to say that they work for tips! I bring singles $5 and $10 usd with me to tip when I go to countries that I know are relying on tourism and this is the first time ever that I returned back home to the United States with 80% of my tip money.

We had so much fun at Bávaro Adventure Park! We went on a rainy day and had a blast riding the buggies through the puddles! Highly recommend going on a rainy day! Our tour guide, Carlos was amazing! We loved stopping at the Dominican Village and tasting the coffee, cigars, hot chocolate, and mamajuana. We also were provided with a delicious lunch of chicken, rice, beans, and fried plantains. After lunch we went on the horseback riding trail and all of the staff were helpful and upbeat! We had a great time!

Hard Rock Cafe is a rock 'n' roll-themed chain known for its high-energy vibe and serving American classics like burgers. The new state-of-the-art facility in Punta Cana features an updated look with the latest technology, paying homage to America's musical history from the 70s to today. With seating for up to 262 guests, private event space, free parking, outdoor terrace seating, and a live music stage, it offers a unique backdrop for performances.
This was my first time to a Hard Rock Cafe. I was in need of some "American food". Our resort food was not great. This place did not disappoint. Food was excellent and very much needed for our entire party. Was not busy at all even though it was dinner time on a Saturday. It was very clean and well maintained. Nothing "Hard Rock" going on at the time we were there though ??? If resort food or authentic Domincan food isn't your thing, this is an excellent option. Other food options and shops close by.

Amazing food as usual for a hard rock cafe along with exceptional staff. It looks like a lot of construction going on around the cafe, perhaps it had been downsized a lot? Bit of a shame. We will probably try the casino/hotel next time.

I've been there 3 times now and all three times we've ordered the same things my partner and I. He likes the twisted mac and cheese and I always go for the Jumbo Combo. We ordered the same things at the Hard Rock restaurant in Santo Domingo and we didn't quite like them. Punta Cana always delivers. We went for dinner recently, they had that conference inside, us patrons were only on the terrace and it was not pleasant at all. People were smoking left and right and I cannot stand smoking. I wish they had a different non-smoking area. Since they were very busy, our food took a lot longer than it should have but they were very apologetic and nice. We still enjoyed the food and it was great as expected. We tried their peach cobbler for dessert and it was exquisite.

Ordered the Ribeye and mashed potatoes, medium doneness. I have had better steak at IHOP. Mash potatoes were lumpy. Asked for butter to help with the potatoes, the butter looked like it was scraped off of a larger block. Sad presentation. Also, instead of a steak knife, I was given a butter knife. Meal of sadness for top price. Paid over 50 USD for that and one drink. Table settings were bare. Wouldn't recommend at all.

This was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. I stayed at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana, expecting luxury and security, but instead I left angry, disappointed, and missing an expensive personal item — my Apple Watch was stolen directly from my room What’s worse than the theft itself was the hotel’s complete failure to act. I reported the incident immediately, and I was met with excuses, silence, and a total lack of urgency. No investigation. No apology. No follow-up. It was like they didn’t care at all. For a resort that promotes itself as five-star, this was a joke. Zero professionalism. Zero accountability. Zero safety for guests and their belongings. I no longer felt safe in my own room. This is unacceptable at any hotel, especially one charging premium prices. DO NOT STAY HERE if you value your personal items or expect even the bare minimum level of customer care. I will never return, and I strongly warn others to think twice before booking. Hard Rock Punta Cana should be ashamed.

So I wouldn‘t come here again but if u don’t have any plastic in your food it can be kinda good.

This is a nice place to eat. They have fire stone oven which makes the pizza taste original. I had a meat pizza and chicken bacon cabonara pasta. It smelled so good I didn’t have the patience to take photos of my food. This place has great Italian food and they have an indoor shop to get cheeses. Update; food was really good I went back a day after and got chicken pizza; the best.

I forgot to take pictures of the food but I ordered a pizza with sausage, mushrooms and black olives. Plus calamari fritti. I knew I was in for a treat because they have a wood burning brick oven. The food was absolutely delicious and the shop has a top notch deli inside to purchase meats, cheeses, wine and imported goodies. I wished i found this sooner in my exploring. I purchased 3 can of pomodoro tomatoes we don't have in the states. Now I'm going to figure out how to order them online to ship to me. I absolutely recommend this Italian restaurant if at San Juan Center in Punta Cana.

A very good Italian restaurant in Punta Cana. Pizzas are good, pasta is good too. The desserts are delicious and there is a wide choice. I went many times and would go again.

My husband and I went there for the first time to celebrate his birthday. The food was amazing, and the portion size is quite big, so we had to take some home. I had assorted seafood with grilled veggies and my husband ordered churrasco steak with french fries. It's totally worth the price!

OMG! the best Italian food in Punta Cana there are no words that can describe this place! You’ll have to take a drive there so you taste for yourself. I loved everything from appetizers to the pizza, risotto, lasagna i wanted it all⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️great job punto 🇮🇹 great crowd too.

We waited over an hour after ordering to get our food. Looking around, we were not the only ones in that situation. I would not recommend this place. The waitress was great. That was about it. I attached a picture of the bruschetta. It was a weird take on bruschetta, nothing like bruschetta in Italy or the United States. That and the lasagna were both really gross. The restaurant was really disappointing.

Dominican restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant Bavaro village, Platanitos Restaurant Punta Cana is a must-visit for anyone looking to immerse themselves in Dominican culture. This charming wooden hut with its thatched roof offers more than just a meal; it provides an unforgettable dining experience filled with authentic flavors and a lively atmosphere. Guests rave about the delicious Mofongo and chicken with bechamel sauce, both highly recommended by the friendly staff.
Truly a wonderful place for Mofongo!!! You can’t go wrong! Great good, fair price, large portions!

Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed in their food. We ordered the dish with the sausage and expected a nice plate, instead, it looked like a meal a kid could make... Service was good and the ambiance was too. Nothing extraordinary and our meal did not compare to the pictures. Also, we couldn't order any fancy drinks, many things weren't available on the menu. We don't plan on going back.

I do not recommend coming here. It is a tourist trap. The pictures look nothing like the food. They state an item can feed 5 people, and it didn't even feed 2 people for $30. The food was either salty or had no flavor. The server was more or less paying attention to us; however, we would order while they were standing at the stand where you would pay. Go spend your money elsewhere that is better. Also tip is included so don't tip extra.

The best mofongo I’ve ever had! The service was amazing. They didn’t have avocado but they made a call and had avocado delivered. We were tired of the buffet food in our resort so we looked around and found this place. Glad we did! Our favorite meal in our vacation.
