Sights & Landmarks
Richmond Bridge, located in Tasmania, Australia, is a picturesque sandstone bridge that was constructed in 1825 by convict labor. It holds the distinction of being the oldest bridge still in use in Australia and is also the oldest stone span bridge in the country. The bridge serves as a main thoroughfare for both vehicles and pedestrians crossing the Coal River.
Stopped by Richmond Bridge and it’s a charming spot, perfect for a quick visit and some great photos. The historic stone bridge is picturesque, and the surrounding area is lovely with heaps of friendly ducks waddling around. It wasn’t busy at all, which made it nice and relaxing. The town itself is full of historic charm with plenty of nice cafes and eateries to enjoy. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!

The Richmond Bridge is a beautiful and historically significant spot, and definitely worth stopping by if you are visiting Richmond. Built in 1825 by convicted prisoners, this picturesque sandstone bridge spans the Coal River and stands as one of Tasmania’s oldest and most iconic structures. It is a wonderful place for a short walk where you can appreciate the combination of history, architecture, and natural beauty all in one scene. The surrounding landscape is peaceful and scenic, with friendly ducks waddling around adding to the charm of the place. Behind the bridge, you will find a lovely area filled with blossoms and colourful flowers, perfect for taking photos or simply sitting back and enjoying the view.
Alvin K — Google review
What a beautiful piece of history! I still can’t believe this stunning bridge was built by convicts back in the 1820s – it’s the oldest surviving stone bridge in all of Australia and still used today. The craftsmanship is incredible, especially knowing it was all done by hand using local sandstone. The setting is just gorgeous – peaceful, with the Coal River running underneath and ducks paddling about. It’s the perfect spot for a quiet walk, picnic, or some great photos. You really get a sense of Tasmania’s colonial history just standing on it. Richmond itself is a lovely little town and this bridge is the highlight. A must-see if you’re in southern Tassie!

Title: Beautiful Historic Bridge Review: “Richmond Bridge is absolutely stunning and full of history. The architecture is beautiful, and the peaceful surroundings make it a perfect spot for a walk or photos. A must-visit if you’re in Tasmania!”

DUCKIES! Such a beautiful small town with adorable duckies around. A lovely place to spend the afternoon with lots of greenaries and the duckies are an absolute gem! A very peaceful vibe. Absolute loved it and I came back from Hobart a second time during my short trip.

The atmosphere is nice, but today there was no sun, so I just stopped to take a photo for a short while. Richmond village is cute and friendly.

Richmond Bridge is over 202 years old, and it’s amazing to see how well it’s been preserved. I was so happy to walk around the area and take in its charm. The peaceful surroundings and historic feel made the visit even more special.
Elmer S — Google review
Richmond Bridge makes history feel beautifully immediate. Built by convict stonemasons in the 1820s, its sandstone arches still carry cars and walkers over the Coal River without fuss. From the middle of the span you get that classic view: willow trees dipping into the water, St John’s Church steeple rising just beyond the ridge, and ducks tracing lazy ripples below. Early or late in the day, warm light turns the stone a soft gold and reflections double the scene almost perfectly. Take a slow wander and the craftsmanship stands out. Hand-tooled chisel marks remain visible in many blocks, and a few stones bear the initials of the men who laid them nearly two centuries ago. Plaques at each end share the bridge’s backstory without overwhelming you, so even a casual stroll leaves you with a sense of the engineering challenge and the convict lives behind it. The surrounding parkland invites a longer pause. Grassy banks make an easy picnic spot, local swans drift by hoping for crumbs, and a short path leads to a vantage point ideal for photos. Parking lines the road near the bridge, public toilets sit a minute’s walk away, and Richmond’s bakery and cafés are close enough to grab a pastry or coffee before you settle in. Whether you visit for colonial history, photography or just a quiet riverside break, Richmond Bridge rewards every unhurried step.

The Richmond Gaol, built in 1825, is a notable prison with tours of its cells, holding rooms and yards. The gift shop adds to the attraction's appeal. This oldest jail in Australia features displays that depict the lives of convicts, gaolers and administrators. Visitors are treated to an actual experience of what took place during that time period. Of particular interest are the solitary cells without windows where convicts were confined for up to 21 days without exercise or fresh air.
It's a very old site, haunted, oozing with suffering history and you can feel it through these old walls. My young son got a mysterious nose bleed as soon as he entered the Gaoler's residence (near the steps), started crying and said he felt weird and left! 😬
S C — Google review
A must-visit piece of Australian history! I’m so glad the public can now access Richmond Gaol—it’s incredible to think this place was a private residence for so long. The site is beautifully preserved, offering a powerful glimpse into Tasmania’s convict past. The lady at the entrance was especially lovely and helpful—she shared some fascinating details about Richmond’s history that really enriched our time exploring the area. There were also some great activities for my 8-year-old to do while we walked through the jail—she had fun spotting things and ticking them off her scavenger hunt, which made the visit even more enjoyable for her. And just outside the jail, we found an excellent pie and pastry shop—perfect for a snack before or after your visit. Highly recommended stop if you’re in the area!

It was truly excellent. Rod, the staff member, was incredibly friendly, professional, and full of helpful information. The goal is breathtaking, with stunning displays that really wow you, and the condition of the building is impressive. We've driven past many times and are so glad we finally stopped to explore. The informative plaques inside beautifully tell the stories of the men and women connected to this place. The gift shop is packed with a wide variety of products—you'll love browsing through it. I’m not posting too many pictures because you really need to experience it for yourself. Keep up the fantastic work maintaining this gorgeous building and its grounds!
Matuka — Google review
Being older than Port Arthur, the restoration is well done. Solitary confinement rooms where you can experience what it would have been like - dark and tiny. A piece of history captured in completion compared to ruins of other Gaols from original settlements. Worth seeing
Michelle S — Google review
It’s very small but the experience is very unique and interesting. Bit pricey for the experience but cheap otherwise... It’s a bit tricky, you will like it or maybe you will think it was a waste. We enjoyed it and found the experience alright. If you go there enjoy the Richmond town as a whole and then it will satisfy your enthusiastic mind. Thank you. Enjoy...
Fallguy — Google review
The oldest existing Gaol in Australia and it has been well preserved. Would have preferred a tour guide or maybe an audio tour but still thought it was worthwhile.
Donna D — Google review
The restoration of this place is very well done, and it's amazing how much was able to be retained/restored when you compare it with other facilities from the same period. The self-tour was informative and there was plenty of information around the place. I appreciated the recreations to demonstrate what conditions would have been like.

Bakery
The Richmond Bakery is a charming spot located in the historic town of Richmond, Tasmania. It's just a short walk from the iconic Richmond Bridge and offers a spacious courtyard where visitors can indulge in authentic Tasmanian pastries like scallop pies. The bakery is known for its top-notch sausage rolls and great coffee, making it a popular stop for locals and tourists alike. With delicious sweets, savories, and friendly staff, it's an ideal place to treat yourself while exploring the area.
Hands down, the best vanilla slice I've ever eaten (trust me, I've eaten a lot of them). If you're in the area (southern hemisphere), it's well worth the effort to drop in and eat a vanilla slice. All other slices pale in comparison. I'm sure I ate other stuff there too, but nothing can hold a candle to the vanilla slice.

We tried the scallop pie and the beef and mushroom pie. Both were pretty good and satisfying. The café offers plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. It wasn’t busy when we visited in the morning. A great cafe to drop by if you’re passing through or exploring the town.

Good spot to enjoy and share!🍴 My husband and I ordered the Chicken & Camembert pie, the Curried Scallops pie, and a sausage roll to share. Personally, I loved the chicken pie the most—rich, creamy, and super satisfying. 🥰 The curried scallops pie had a unique flavor that surprised me; it’s more of a Western-style curry, quite different from the Asian curry I’m used to. My husband actually preferred that one!🤭 A fun and tasty experience—definitely worth trying a few different items to share! 😊 可以試點扇貝派,但不要有太高的期待值😌

Old and traditional bakery. Price is not cheap but not expensive. The products are good. It’s famous for its curry scallop pie at $11. Tastes good. Can have a try if you go to Richmond.

Scrumptious pies! Curry scallop and curry cauliflower and chickpea were standouts! The raspberry custard tart is very special too.

Food here was really good. A bit high priced for pies but they were really nice.

Lovely traditional bakery. We sampled several of the pies over a few visits and the steak and mushroom pie was the favourite. Decent range of sweet offerings as well. Coffee was a bit hit and miss. The pastry is divine.

Came all the way to Richmond just to try this place and it was totally worth it! Their brunch was super tasty, and the famous honey cake definitely lived up to the hype. The vibe is really chill too. I especially loved the outdoor seating. Perfect spot to relax and enjoy good food!

Old Hobart Town is a tourist attraction that allows visitors to explore a miniature replica of Hobart as it was in the 1820s. This model town is filled with interesting and historical items, such as Tasmanian tigers and depictions of daily life, making it both educational and enjoyable for people of all ages. The proprietor is friendly and willing to share knowledge about the history of old Hobart town, adding to the overall experience.
Love this small scale model representation of Hobart during the 1820's. The people including convicts and redcoats, families and animals and the bay with ships is a real must-do when in Richmond. Only 20 minutes from Hobart this little stop over is a must. Toilets & gift shop available.
David N — Google review
Old Hobart Town is a delightful surprise tucked behind the main street of Richmond. The scale model recreates 1820s Hobart in impressive detail; you wander along winding paths while tiny schooners sit in the “harbour”, convicts push wheelbarrows and ladies in bonnets chat outside Georgian cottages. Informative boards at key spots explain the stories behind each scene, so you pick up pieces of Tasmanian history without feeling like you are back in school. Kids love hunting for the cheeky Tasmanian devil hiding among the figurines, and adults tend to linger over the craftsmanship in the sandstone facades and shingled roofs. The gardens around the model are well kept, adding splashes of lavender, rosemary and native grasses that frame the miniature streetscapes. There are plenty of benches if you want to sit and take it all in, and the looped layout means you can browse at your own pace without doubling back. Staff at the entrance are welcoming and happy to point out easy-to-miss scenes, like the bushranger ambush near the quarry or the tiny greyhounds racing beyond the city walls. Practicalities are straightforward. Parking is available on the adjacent side street, the gift shop stocks local books and postcards, and the site is mostly level, making it manageable for prams and wheelchairs. Tickets are valid for re-entry on the same day, which is handy if you want to duck out for lunch in the village and return for another look. As a compact blend of history lesson, garden stroll and model-makers’ showcase, Old Hobart Town offers something different from the usual heritage stops and is well worth the visit.
Le G — Google review
Old Hobart Town in Richmond is a very interesting and well-crafted attraction that offers a unique look into Tasmania’s past. The miniature models are impressively detailed, with carefully designed figures, buildings, and scenes that bring the early days of Hobart to life. The characters look surprisingly realistic, and if you take the time to look closely, you will notice many clever and amusing details hidden throughout the display. One of the most fascinating parts of the visit is realising that some of the buildings represented in the model still exist today in Hobart’s city centre. Seeing the models first and then spotting the real buildings later adds a special connection between history and the present day. The entry fee is slightly high, but when you consider the level of detail and the effort required to maintain such intricate models, it feels justified. It is clear that a great deal of time and care has gone into keeping the exhibit in excellent condition.
Alvin K — Google review
Excellent. The models are built with great attention to detail. It gives a great insight into Hobart's beginnings. You are also challenged to find certain figures hidden within the village which adds to the experience.

We visited a small town in Tasmania and absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, with beautiful scenery all around. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down, take a deep breath, and just enjoy the moment. The locals were very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even more special. It’s definitely a great spot for a peaceful getaway — perfect for relaxing, daydreaming, or simply doing nothing at all. A hidden gem that’s worth a visit if you’re exploring Tasmania.
Bennie A — Google review
A Miniature Marvel Full of Heart The delightful Miniature Hobart in Richmond is pure magic. Every tiny detail bursts with character and cheeky charm — you can almost hear the laughter of the whimsical townsfolk frozen mid-mischief. It’s more than just a miniature world; it’s a love letter to imagination itself. But what truly touched me was the clear love and dedication between the creator and his son — a bond that breathes life into every tiny street and scene. Their shared joy and humour shine through in each playful vignette, making this enchanting little world feel alive. An absolute must-see — heartwarming, creative

A short drive from Hobart, this old town has been preserved beautifully. Quaint buildings and local produce in abundance. The beautiful Richmond bridge is stunning
Jenny B — Google review
I was one of 29 Carseldine Probus members who were on an extended holiday from Brisbane, Queensland to have the opportunity to visit Old Hobart Town. We were on day tour to Port Arthur Historical Site and passing through the township of Richmond stopped off to visit the historical Old Hobart Town. This is a unique multi-award winning model village that dispicts life in Hobart as it was in the 1820's. Hobart itself was named after Lord Hobart the then secretary of the state for the Colonial Department. John Sullivan was the under secretary. The colony remained part of NSW until 1825. The beautifully handcrafted work that has been done over a 3 year period by Andrew and John Quick is some of the most authentic that I have ever seen. Such attention to detail! Old Hobart Town is ideally located at 21a Bridge St,Richmond TAS 7025 and is definitely a great family friendly place to enjoy quality time. There are plenty of shops and cafes in this part of Tasmania and the tickets you purchase when visiting Old Hobart Town can be used during the day. Old Hobart Town is easily accessible to people with wheelchairs or mobility scooters being on the ground floor level. Toilets are located nearby with further amenities available in the township of Richmond. I will definitely be recommending anyone visiting this magnificent area of Tasmania drop by and take the time to enjoy visiting Old Hobart Town.

The Wicked Cheese Company is a must-visit destination near town, offering more than just a cheese shop experience. It stands out as one of Tasmania's top cheese producers, allowing visitors to witness the cheese-making process and explore the aging area. The shop provides an array of delicious cheeses for sampling and purchase, with a generous cheese platter option available for enjoying on-site or taking home.
Beautiful experience at the Wicked Cheese. Coffee was one of the best we had in Tasmania. Highly recommended. We had a cheese platter, and that was great, too.

We went for lunch at the Wicked Cheese Company for the first time and had a wonderful experience! We ordered the chicken pâté and iced chocolate for dine-in, and also picked up some cheeses to take away. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the pate – so full of flavour. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended for anyone who loves great food and quality cheese!
Anika T — Google review
The Wicked Cheese Company was an absolute gem of a stop on our little trip along Tasmania’s east coast. Such a spontaneous stop, we’d heard good things and decided to check it out - and we’re so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. They made us feel right at home and were more than happy to guide us through tastings, answer questions, and share a bit about how everything is made. The cheese? Incredible. Every sample we tried was packed with flavour, and honestly, we probably bought more than we needed - but how could we not? Everything was just that good. The Yoghurt Cheese and Smoked Brie were favourites, but the real surprise standout was the Coffee Whiskey - rich, smooth, and just the right amount of indulgent. We’re still talking about it. It’s clear that a lot of love goes into everything they make, and the whole experience felt very personal and authentic. If you're exploring the east coast of Tassie, Wicked Cheese is 100% worth the stop. Great cheese, lovely people, and a really memorable visit. We’ll definitely be back next time!

Zoodoo Zoo is a small to medium-sized wildlife park that offers a range of interactive experiences, including animal feeding and informative talks throughout the day. Visitors can enjoy seeing a variety of birds and mammals, both native and imported. The zoo has excellent farmyard and wallaby feeding paddocks, as well as efforts to preserve Swift Parrots. One highlight is the Lion experience where visitors can see these amazing creatures up close. Additionally, guests can watch zebras and other Australian animals in their enclosures.
We had such an amazing day out with the kids at ZooDoo! What makes it really special is how up close and personal you can get with the animals – something you just don’t experience at the bigger zoos. A real highlight was seeing the Tasmanian devils so active and visible, which is a rare treat (you never see them at Melbourne Zoo!). The animal encounters were an incredible add-on, absolutely worth it for such a unique and memorable opportunity. The kids’ playgrounds were incredible! You can really see the investment that has been made recently, and it’s exciting to know there’s even more to come. Stuart and his staff went above and beyond to make the day an experience to remember. The kids were thrilled, and we all left with big smiles. We can’t wait to come back and see what’s in store next!

I'd give 10 stars if I could. Stuart is an incredible host, the staff are all lovely, the animals are healthy and well loved. The scenery is gorgeous. It was my wife and I second time visiting Tasmania visiting from Melbourne and first time visiting Hobart Zoo and Aquarium. Words cannot describe how amazing our experience was. From seeing all the animals and the newly addition aquarium and also being told there will be more in the future, we will definitely come back. I was told of the owner Stuart’s vision of the zoo and aquarium in bringing more animals and fish which excites me and can’t wait to come back. Being able to feed the animals was such a magical experience and something I will never forget. Lastly our first time feeding meerkats and that was a priceless and unforgettable moment for my wife and I. Special mention to Karinda for guiding us through the meerkat feeding experience, she’s such an amazing and lovely person who is so passionate about not only her job but importantly animals. We will definitely be back!

This zoo is located on a farm site. It is fairly easy to drive to and has a good variety of animals. adored the highland cows and the rare white lions. Little kids seemed to thoroughly enjoy animals as you can feed some of them. There is also an indoor kids playground. There is ample parking available. A small Cafe is located inside pricing is reasonable. Good experience, inexpensive and can now say I saw a Tasmanian Daredevil in Tasmania!

We recently visited Hobart Zoo and Aquarium, previously known as the ZooDoo, and honestly had such a great time! It was a spontaneous little outing for us as a couple, and it turned out to be a really fun and wholesome way to spend a few hours. Admission is $37 per adult, which at first felt a little on the higher end for a smaller zoo - but once you’re inside, you start to see why Hobart Zoo and Aquarium is not a huge, commercial-style zoo- it’s more personal, interactive, and down-to-earth. It’s clear that they care deeply about the animals, and the whole experience feels thoughtfully curated. We spent about 2 hours walking around, and that was the perfect amount of time to see everything without feeling rushed. The layout is easy to follow, and you get up close to many of the animals. One of the best parts was being able to feed some of the animals using tokens that are $3 a pop - which you can buy only at the entrance with multiple stations to redeem them inside. Feeding kangaroos, cows, smaller animals like rabbits and guinea pigs and even some farm animals was such a fun touch, and would be especially exciting for kids. Although the Zoo is clearly geared toward families and larger groups (which makes sense, given how interactive and animal-focused it is), it still worked really well as a smaller outing for just the two of us. There’s something really sweet about wandering around, feeding animals together, and just enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. We saw lots of laughing kids and families having a blast, so if you’re thinking of coming with children, they’ll absolutely love it. A pleasant surprise during our visit was the newly added aquarium, which you’ll find through the café area. It’s a small but nicely done space, and a great little bonus to the visit. There’s even a small touch pool, which adds an extra interactive element - especially fun for kids, but honestly just as enjoyable for adults curious about marine life. It’s a quiet, calming space and a great addition to the overall Zoo experience. The café itself is also a nice spot to take a short break, with indoor seating and some outdoor views. It's perfectly located if you want to grab a coffee or snack before heading into the aquarium. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the animals looked well cared for. Enclosures were clean, and many of the animals seemed comfortable approaching visitors, especially during feeding. If you’re in the Hobart area and looking for something light-hearted, easygoing, and interactive - whether as a couple or with friends or family - Hobart Zoo and Aquarium is definitely worth a visit. It’s not a massive zoo, but that’s part of its charm. You leave feeling happy, and maybe a little more connected to the animals than at a larger, more commercial park. Highly recommend for a fun half-day activity. We’ll definitely come back again!

I'm thoroughly impressed with the recent upgrades they are truly impressive! The staff's warm hospitality makes the experience even more enjoyable. The aquarium is a major highlight, and I really enjoyed hand-feeding the animals and bird feeding. The gift shop offers a good variety of souvenirs or gifts for loved ones and the food at the cafe is delicious! I highly recommend this zoo.

We loved our time at this zoo! We were surprised by how fairly priced the tickets were and being able to interact with the animals at no extra cost. You can tell the zoo keepers love what they do and love their animals. So lovely to see. Thank you for an amazing experience!!

I recently visited Hobart Zoo and Aquarium (formerly Zoodoo Zoo) with my sister who was visiting from the US, and I wanted to give us an experience we couldn't get anywhere else. I'm so glad I splurged on the $750(AU) VIP encounter package for two – it was absolutely worth it! While I realize that it depends on how many others happen to sign up the same day, we were blessed to have a dedicated keeper for the two of us. The Incredible Encounters We participated in encounters with koalas, a black-headed python, cotton-headed tamarins, marmosets, a black cockatoo, meerkats, squirrel monkeys, servals, Tasmanian devils, and the highlight – the lion encounter with Lions Raw. Each experience was thoughtfully curated and genuinely special. Outstanding Staff Emma was our primary guide throughout the day and she was phenomenal. She ensured we learned fascinating details about each animal, never once making us feel rushed. Her passion and knowledge really enhanced every encounter. The lion experience was absolutely breathtaking. First we were able to feed them with tongs through the fence at the front of their habitat. Then Emma and Karinda (who was hilarious and wonderful – we could genuinely be friends!) took us behind the scenes to the lions' holding area. We were told about the safety protocols, the health care and enrichment activities for the lions. Then they set out the food and brought each one in. Hearing the lions vocalize up close – feeling the vibrations in my chest with only the cage between us and no plexiglass – was truly awe-inspiring and something I'll never forget. Jody at the front desk was also fantastic, answering all our questions and making sure we had everything we needed. The Owner Makes All the Difference What really impressed me was meeting Stuart, the new owner. When we stayed until the end for Lions Raw (4-5pm), he asked for feedback. I mentioned that we'd somehow missed the koala and squirrel monkey encounters, despite being told the package included everything. Without hesitation, Stuart personally took us to both encounters after closing time while the zoo was shutting down. His dedication, humor, and passion for the animals and his vision for the zoo really shone through. This level of customer service is rare and deeply appreciated. The Transformation It's clear Stuart is investing heavily in the zoo's future. New aquariums have been added, and construction is ongoing in various areas – all without interfering with the guest experience or animal viewing. The park is evolving beautifully and I can’t wait to see how it progresses. One Small Disappointment The only letdown was that the open bus ride through the paddocks (which allowed guests to pet and feed zebras and camels) is no longer offered. This was actually why I chose to return to this zoo after visiting in 2017. While you can still see these animals in the fields, the interactive experience is gone. Given the premium price we paid, I'd hoped this might still be available, but I understand changes happen under new ownership. It does sound like there is a plan to bring something back but in a different way. Final Thoughts Despite the one disappointment, this was an extraordinary day that my sister and I will treasure forever. The animal encounters were incredible, the staff was exceptional, and Stuart's commitment to both his animals and his guests is evident. If you're visiting Tasmania and want a truly memorable wildlife experience, I highly recommend Hobart Zoo and Aquarium. The VIP package is pricey, but for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, it delivers. Thank you to Emma, Karinda, Jody, and especially Stuart for making our Tasmanian adventure unforgettable!

Pooley Wines is one of the cellar doors near town, offering a delightful wine tasting experience. Visitors praise Charlie, the knowledgeable and engaging host who adds a delightful touch to the tour with his enthusiasm for each wine's unique characteristics. The rustic charm of the location enhances the enjoyment of their Riesling and other wines. Guests also appreciate Tristan's expertise in serving delicious wines and extras, making their experience enjoyable and unique.
We had a nice wine and decided to track down the winery. The drive was very pleasant, even if we took a slight detour over the mountains. The winery itself was stunning, a nice quiet deck to sit on even for a busy day. The pizza selection was extensive with some delicious platters to accompany them. And a useful selection of wines. Nestled amongst the vines it was a great lunch stop. The tasting room looked brilliant but did require a booking.

Had a great experience doing a wine tasting here! Came for pizzas but we were a bit early, turned out for the best because the wine tasting was amazing, tried some new wines for me personally and had a lovely young guy who talked me through each wine and gave us some great recs for restaurants in the area too. Definitely recommend! The venue itself is beautiful too.

Second stop for our winery tour! Amazing wines they have to offer. Such a nice venue as well with the amazing views of the valley. The wines were top notch being the Syrah as the favourite! Pooley Wines feels like stepping into the Italian countryside—such a charming and picturesque setting. Even on a busy afternoon, our server was incredibly attentive and took the time to answer all our questions with so much knowledge and care. The wines were superb, each glass full of character and beautifully made. We’re already looking forward to coming back, especially to try their wood-fired pizza next time!

Perfect day. Found it a little challenging getting a park but that is because it is a very charming spot. The service was fantastic, all staff were amazing very natural and accomodating. The food was lovely had two pizzas and the cheese board. In the wine tasting the woman was informative and friendly. Adjusted her pitch to our bogan personalities. It was my son’s first sample of wine and was a great introduction into the subtleties of flavours and what makes a great drop. We left with a bottle of wine. Thanks for a great day

We booked for the lunch and wine tasting during our day visit to Richmond. Everything about Pooley Wineries is gorgeous! The smell of wood-fired pizza greets you on entry and the lunch area looks out over a gorgeous farm at the top of Richmond. The wine tasting has a variety of selections. We did the 6-wine tasting for $15 and it is certainly worth the money, especially after having a delicious fresh pizza. ** EDIT: I should mention, we did the day trip to Richmond from Hobart without renting a car. The Pooley Winery is an easy walk from the Richmond city centre.

A wonderful Richmond winery with original sandstone buildings. They cook great wood-fired pizzas. We had the Prosciutto, rocket, parmesan and balsamic, plus the Pepperoni and mozzarella and the Duck, hoisin, spring onion and red capsicum. All very, very tasty. Can't wait to go back.

Amaze Richmond is a family-friendly destination featuring two exciting mazes and a delightful on-site cafe. The Hedge Maze offers an exhilarating experience as visitors race through the towering shrubbery walls, navigating twists and turns along the way. The facility also includes fun scavenger hunt activities in each maze, making it an ideal place to spend quality time with kids. Additionally, the cafe serves delicious meals, with highlights such as a mouthwatering steak sandwich and a flavorful poke bowl.
My partner and I spotted this from the road driving through town and immediately pulled over. Was our highlight of the day, had lots of fun running around the maze. Staff were awesome too

Amaze cafe truly lives upto its name.We went there with a baby, and the staff was very welcoming, even offering to warm up the milk bottle for us. The cafe is exceptionally child-friendly, providing coloring sheets, pencils, and games—something you rarely find in other cafes. Seating: The seating arrangement is well-planned, with both indoor and outdoor options. It operates on a semi-self-service model, with a water station indoors for guests to help themselves and cutlery neatly placed in a corner. Food: While the food was decent, I found it a bit average for the price. They do offer vegetarian options. The cafe also features clean and well-maintained restrooms, along with a gift shop. Set in a spacious area with beautiful views, it offers a unique and refreshing experience.

Pooseum is a unique museum in the Richmond area that offers an intriguing look into the world of animal feces. It's not as gross as it may sound and is actually quite interesting, especially for kids with a curious mind. The museum features quirky facts about poop, such as the square shape of wombat poo and how some caterpillars can eject their waste up to 1.5 meters away.
What a unique establishment. Never imagined there could be a museum about Poo 💩💩💩 The owner is very passionate about her business and is extremely involved in ensuring the visitors have a pleasant insightful experience. I highly recommend you to visit this museum. It is small but very informative. Karin the owner was so helpful and dedicated to create this museum, maintained the objects, kept them clean and accommodated every single visitors. You would need to spend time to read so you could learn heaps of interesting things. The museum is for 16 years old and above so I would suggest you used your time wisely for exploring great things like this.

It was marvelous. Kids (8, 12, 16) loved it. So did their mother and so did I. It is cute, informative and funny. The toilets are a must see. Don't be afraid it is not gross, well maybe the fart button is a bit gross, but mostly it is just interesting. Videos and questions and art and lots and lots of scatological facts.

What an eye opener this Pooseum is. Karin has a passion for all animals and their faeces which she displays in such an inventive way, that young and old can't help but become interested too. The only Museum of this kind in the world, is a credit to Karin. You won't regret visiting when you call into Richmond.

What an amazing place this is? So funny but full of fascinating information about the one thing people often don’t want to think about!!! Karin is a wonderful person with an amazing mind for creative ways of tackling this often taboo subject. And we only saw the reception area and the toilet as we turned up too late and she was closing. But she took the time to chat with her for over an hour! And what a mind of curious information she had - lol! The exhibits and educational posters and items are so well done. This is a must visit! LOVED IT!!

**An Unforgettable Escape at Prospect House – Hospitality at Its Finest!** Our recent stay at **Prospect House** in Richmond, Tasmania, was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in warmth, elegance, and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like cherished guests rather than just visitors. The property itself is stunning—a perfect blend of historic charm and modern luxury. Our room was beautifully appointed, offering both comfort and a sense of tranquility, with thoughtful touches that made it truly special. Waking up to the serene views of the surrounding countryside was a dream. The highlight of our stay, however, was the **exclusive dinner with the producers**—Lisa, John, Imogen, Maurieiu, Kalpana, and James. Their passion for their craft was evident in every dish and every glass of wine we shared. The food was **absolutely divine**, showcasing the finest local ingredients, each course more delicious than the last. Paired with exceptional wines, the evening was a celebration of Tasmania’s incredible produce and the talented people behind it. What truly set this experience apart was the **genuine hospitality**. The team at Prospect House went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, sharing stories, laughter, and an unforgettable dining experience. It’s rare to find a place where every detail is so carefully considered, and where the hosts make you feel like part of the family. If you’re looking for a getaway that combines **luxury, gourmet delights, and heartfelt hospitality**, Prospect House is the place to be. My group had a wine and cheese pairing and owner Darren was amazing!! Darren is very down to earth and he could be working on the grounds one moment and explaining all the wine and cheese pairings the next moment! It’s a great family owned place and he told us the funny story of how him and his wife got the name of his vineyard, which took years for them to name! You have to visit to hear the story though!! It’s a nice mid-day or afternoon getaway place, where you can enjoy a quick bite to eat, sit with the ducks that waddle around and enjoy the views of a vineyard and pond! They also have a play area that the little ones can enjoy!

A random winery pick turned out to be a hidden gem. Fantastic wine, food, location and staff (thanks Sammy and Sandy). The tasting platter and some shared desserts was ample food for 4. The guided wine tasting was delightful (particularly if you have the platter as there’s an interesting twist if Sandy passes on her advice). Sammy made us feel like family and made it a memorable afternoon. Don’t forget to feed the ducks before you leave - why should kids get all the fun!!

Puddleduck winery was recommend by one of our friends who had visited previously and we were not disappointed. Our wine guide "Emily" had a wealth of information and was very attentive to us! The selection of wines on the tasting palate was very good and we had the little local cheese platter too! And of course the lovely ducks! Highly recommend this lovely winery in Richmond.

It was a bit of a whim, on a day that turned too cold to pursue the walk we had planned. Our plan changed, we decided to visit Puddle Duck vineyard in the Coal Valley. It had been a few years since my last visit so I was excited to see what was available. Firstly, there was space inside, warm and cosy (perfect for this time of year in Tassie). Next up, the service was prompt and friendly, true Tassie style. Susie ordered a glass of Bubble duck vintage sparkling, I ordered the tasting paddle. The sparkling was so good Susie needed a second one. The tasting paddle included the Vintage (2022)Sparkling wine along with a sample of Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot noir (all from 2024). None of the wines disappointed and all were a lovely match with the delicious Bread olive oil and Dukkah, and the newly listed Pulled pork tacos. Got to love local done well. Thank you for your hospitality guys, see you again soon.

The service here was so good! We randomly picked this winery to visit on our very last day in Tasmania, to fill in time before our flight home. We both had a tasting flight of wines, and some snacks to go along with them. The wines were lovely, as was the food. They also have a nice little lake situation going on right next to the seating area, so you're able to wander over after lunch and feed the ducks. Well worth a visit!

My step daughter booked a baby shower over 2 weeks ago at Puddleduck Vineyard in Richmond for yesterday Sunday. The day arrived and she was told that her party had to sit outside because inside was booked out? Naturally she had table decorations balloons etc, as she was celebrating her baby news with family and friends. So having to sit outside in cyclonic winds wasn’t suitable. She decided to take the so called “platters” she’d ordered )which was disgustingly expensive for what she got).Even the quests asked who prepared the platters. Luckily one of her friends provided a last minute venue for her.She was charged $700!!!! 😡for those platters. This is obscene. There was a small tray of fruit that had maybe 1/2 a pineapple, a punnet of blueberries, 1 or 2 oranges, a handful of grapes and a few slices of watermelon. There was 1 tray of cucumber and cheese ( processed sliced cheese) sandwiches ( she ordered a variety). A small tray of rolls with a filling. A small tray of sausage rolls and pies that were horrible. I have never in my lifetime seen so much greed and obscene overcharging. She is 23 years old and to have to outlay $700 for nothing is very heartbreaking.

Farms
Littlewood Berry Farm in Richmond offers a delightful experience for visitors, especially during the warmer months. The farm allows guests to pick their own fresh and delicious strawberries, making it a popular activity for families. Additionally, the farm features a charming sunflower field that provides an excellent backdrop for photos. Visitors can also indulge in homemade strawberry gin and ice cream available at the on-site shack. The farm is equipped with amenities such as toilets and a coffee van to ensure a comfortable visit.
Stumbled upon this little strawberry farm on the way back to Hobart. Greeted by friendly staff in a cute little hut. Not ostentatious at all really let the berries do the talking. Coffee cart had pretty good coffee and the price for picking was on $13/kg which is very cheap. It’s fun walking along and picking some ripe ones. Also side note the grass pictured is heavenly - non itchy and so fluffy.

Great little getaway, pick some berries and smell the amazing fresh breeze coming through the mountains ♥️ Lovely strawberry farm with fresh, juicy berries! The picking experience was fun, and the staff were friendly. Great for families or a day out. A bit cold, but worth it for the fun.
Steven K — Google review
Had fun picking our own strawberries. Came right after the opened for the day and got to pick big ones! Weather was cool, there's a great sunflower patch but they were already harvested when we arrived. Definitely would recommend to pick your own strawberries when you're in the area.

Went there in the morning. Owned n run by Australian family. There were rows n rows of strawberry planted on the ground. Paid $Aud16 per kilo for self picked n extra Aud$2 for the paper carrier. The ice cream were nice too.

A friend and I went there for a girls catch up. It was fantastic. Heaps of ripe strawberries. Very scenic surrounds. Friendly staff. Delicious strawberry icecream. There is a drinks van aswell for anyone that wants a great coffee. I'll definitely be revisiting.

Such a beautiful well kept place. Very welcoming, incredibly sweet berries and friendly staff. Perfect day out. make sure you try the strawberry liqueur, grab some Jam to take home and have an ice cream!
Erin C — Google review
Really good berry picking experience. The berry farm was very well organised and easy to navigate with friendly staff that explained everything clearly and easily. They also had lots of “extras” like some delicious strawberry liqueur (which we tasted then bought as it was so delicious), coffee, ice cream and sunflowers. A great activity for kids and families.
Murray H — Google review
A great family friendly strawberry farm! The jam gin and strawberry liqueur have free tastings and there is a good amount of seating so you can enjoy their ice cream and sorbet after you've finished picking strawberries 🥰

Seasonal river
Nestled in southern Tasmania, the Coal River Valley offers a delightful mix of wineries and farms for visitors to explore. The area is renowned for its mouthwatering delights, with Frogmore Creek Winery's restaurant serving up divine meals paired with their acclaimed cool climate wines. Meanwhile, Pooley Wines invites guests to sample their long-living Rieslings and intensely flavored Pinot Noirs at the historic Belmont Vineyard cellar door.
This river in southern Tasmania and near Richmond village was named coal river by map surveyor James Meehan because as you guess, coal was found in the area. The oldest bridge in Tasmania was constructed and called Richmond (believed to be named after Richmond Park nearby) to go over this river. The settlement around it was hence named Richmond. The river has arable land around it leading to the wineries and farms constructed around it. Currently, the most popular feature of this river is the bridge where many tourists come to visit. The banks is bordered by simple trails where you can take a leisurely stroll along.

The Bridge Cafe offers exceptional service and a delectable menu. The mornay scallop and chicken kebab dishes are both delicious, with the staff going above and beyond to accommodate gluten-free options. The cafe's decor has a unique 1950s style amidst an 1850s world, but the quality of service and food outweigh any mismatched ambiance. A must-try is the crayfish mornay pie, which boasts generous portions of tasty crayfish within.
The food was amazing and surprised us. Staff great... food portions were large, fresh and tasty..

Ordered fish and chips takeaway, it was nice crispy and hot. Quite a large portion of fries. It was very quiet and had many seatings available.

Came here for lunch, got a small sandwich and meat pie. Sandwich was dry and plain, meat pie was okay! Way overpriced, spent $20 just for these two small items. No pricing on the items in the cabinet so had no idea it was going to be so pricey. Wouldn't recommend.

$14.50 for a cold pie that has to be cooked in an air fryer. $42 for 2 pies a battered sausage and 2 coffees. Ridiculous. Recommend any other option

Great service, delicious foods. We tried the fishers-man basket, and the battered flathead. The chips are super crunchy, the seasoning was perfect. Over all was excellent.

Sweets and Treats is a beloved traditional lolly shop in Richmond, Tasmania. It's a must-visit spot with shelves filled with various lollies, Tasmanian fudges, ice creams, and coffee. Visitors can choose their favorite old-fashioned or modern lollies and watch as they are measured out and delivered in paper bags just like in the old days. The shop has been popular for decades and recently expanded into the neighboring space to accommodate its growing popularity.
Tassie is blessed with myriad lolly shops and this is certainly a good one. A huge selection of sweet treats of all sizes and flavours all arranged in a dazzling array. There is also icecream, abundant ice-cream in many flavours. With generous servings. Kids of all ages could wander here for ages and find something a little different or unusual to take home.
Derek W — Google review
I’m not sure what the hype is about the ice cream. Tried both the lavender and rum n raisin ice cream, it tasted quite ordinary to me and didn’t really stand out. That said, my review is only based on the ice cream. The shop itself offers a wide variety of sweets, lollies, and chocolates, and is definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area. It’s a nice place to browse, stop by for coffee and a good way to support a local business.
Ijaykay — Google review
- Feels like old school small town confectionary stores. They sell ice cream, homemade fudge and other sweets - Coffee is decent - Lavender ice cream doesn’t quite has a strong lavender flavor - Coffee ice cream is so creamy and delicious tho. - Will come back and try out their fudge next time.

I'm so glad I visited without the kids... otherwise we would never leave this shop, or they'd make be buy way more than what is needed! A truly wonderful selection of sweet confectionery to choose from. Almost too much choice which made it difficult to decide what to buy to take back to Sydney with me. Lovely warm atmosphere inside.

Another treat to visit when you are in Richmond. The store holds older style lollies and new lollies to choose from. You can buy in packages or in custom weights where you can buy in 100 gram lots from a jar. There’s also ice cream and waffles to try if you feel like a dessert too. Well worth the visit!
Kimberly M — Google review
Outstanding customer service and very reasonably priced products. The young ladies who work there are exceptional at their job, efficient and very friendly and helpful! Being from Sydney it was a breath of fresh air to receive this level of customer service from these young adults. Well done ! Also the prices were very reasonable and there was a lot of selection so do not hesitate to stop in and grab some snacks!

Service lady ( the maturer with short hair cut and glasses) was pretty ignorant. I was walking in without greeting and was free standing pretty. Probably had a bad day and when I asked for help, the lady said it as it was a chore. Not to mention the lady change my rocky road to a smaller one after she pick bigger one out. I was pretty annoyed about it 😁 please look at people when engaging conversation in customer service, it’s rude 👍🏻 The set up is very cute ☺️
Pantawan Y — Google review
Ordered two scoops: a Lamington and Turkish Delight. While the Lamington scoop was generous, the Turkish Delight was so tiny and it was clear hard to scoop. I politely asked if she could make it fair, but she only gave three half scoops and said that’s the best she could do. More like one half scoops and two eighth scoops. Other places in Brisbane and Sydney have always fixed this when it happens. Left feeling disappointed and not valued as a customer.

Amazing antique store with a wide variety of interesting products for a fair price with cool stories behind them. The lady who helped us was fantastic and I highly recommend popping in for a look if you’re in the area. Steps at the front of the shop, in the middle of town. Plenty of interesting things, however the record section is incredibly expensive. It’s been over a year since I last visited, with lots of records looking like they’ve been there for a long while. It’s a shame really, there are a few good titles in there, but you can find them so much cheaper elsewhere.
Nathan A — Google review
Excellent service & an exceptional array of vinyl to suit all music tastes. Appreciate the fact they have "new stock" bins, much quicker to browse that way when time is poor (and/or she who must be obeyed is with you.. ☺️). Plenty of antiques as well, but I can't remove my focus away from the LP room!
Matt S — Google review
Saw a record in there a year ago for $60. Came back this week and it’s still sitting there for $60. Offered $50 (probably what it was worth in the condition it was in). Shop owner went off about how much more they could get elsewhere, didn’t need to have imperfections pointed out etc….offered $5 off. I walked out without buying anything. I won’t be back!!!
Joe D — Google review
Very overpriced, this is the most expensive antique store I've seen in Tassie. I bought a few of the same items for a third of these prices at other antique stores

The Former Richmond Post Office, located at the junction of Bridge Street and Henry Street, is a historic landmark that dates back to the 1800s. Although it has been repurposed into shops, the building still retains its original architectural charm. The large windows and double door entrance are reminiscent of its past as a bustling post office. Visitors can explore this iconic structure and discover artifacts that offer insights into life during the 19th century.
The former Richmond Post office situated at the junction of Bridge Street and Henry Street. The building has since been converted to shops, however the architectural aspects of the old post office remains present. The large windows with many smaller panels that faces the length of Bridge Street is still similar to that of the past. The opening for the double doors entrance is similar as well. On the left of this building (when facing the Post Office) used to be a horse powered granary to grind grains that the nearby farms produced.

Richmond Village Markets, located about 26 km from Hobart in a 200-year-old Gregorian village, offer a cozy and charming experience. The market showcases local products from the Coal River region, including home-grown produce, crafts, jewelry, and plants. Visitors can also enjoy entertainment and a bike display while exploring the market on Saturdays between 9 am and 3 pm.
If you are visiting Richmond on a Sunday this market is a must see. It isn't a produce or trash and treasure type, it is a market that showcases local artists. Photography, jewellery, drawings, gin, a bladesmith and hand sewn goods are a few examples of stall holders.

Very average market. I was expecting something with a bit of life and a much wider range of stalls. It's just a hall with some made cakes and doilies - the rest was forgetable. For such an attractive town it really needs to get it's act together to bring in the tourists.
Greg J — Google review
If I could have zero stars I would. I messaged to enquire about holding a stall for the first time and was nothing but belittled and insulted by the administrator. Was called uneducated and called my products junk. They even proceeded to stalk my personal facebook page to insult my hobbies and my family. 100% rude and stuck up. Nestled just off Bridge Street in the charming town of Richmond, St. Luke's Anglican Church is a breathtaking example of Georgian Gothic architecture that captures the essence of Tasmania's rich history. Constructed between 1834 and 1836 by convicts using local sandstone and timber from Port Arthur, this remarkable structure boasts a crenellated tower and an impressive clock originally sourced from Hobart’s St. David’s Cathedral. Consecrated in 1838 by Rev. W.G.

The accommodation offers individually decorated suites, each with its own delightful and unique architecture. Guests can choose to stay in the main house or experience something different by opting for the quaint and colorful gypsy caravan. While some guests found the accommodations dated, others were impressed by the beautiful exterior and well-kept gardens.
What an amazing location. I stayed in the hobbit house and it was such a great experience I booked a second night. My dog loved interacting with the horses and sheep through the fence. OK, I've given a 1 for service. We went to a "0" birthday celebration. For those that are aware of the show "Fawlty Towers" then this is the place for you!! For that I give it a 5 😂 We arrived 6pm for 6.30pm sit down set menu, ( which had mushrooms included so already scary)😂 Too soon 😒 No bar staff 🤷‍♂️ At 6.20pm an elderly man, I'm not being disrespectful I'm 70, came to be barman. To say he had absolutely no clue is an understatement. No cold wine, champagne in bar fridge. Oh our guest No.'s were about 20 🤦‍♂️ All like an alcoholic Beveridge or 2. No beer in bar fridge. To select a cold beverage one had to be escorted to the kitchen to select from a limited supply, which were still lukewarm. No beers. 3 dogs running around, 1 with only 3 legs, a worry really from what we've experienced so far. So we settle into seats & studied the menu, that didn't take long. A gentleman, our waiter we think, asks us what our selections were. A selection of 2 entrees & 2 Mains. Dessert was a cake my Neice brought along, thank the Lord!! So waiter stuffed the order so we had to re order. Then whilst we waited the elderly waiter from the other table proceeded to walk around with no useful purpose, just looking whilst chewing open mouthed on some allegedly tasty morsel 🤷‍♂️. I won't go into detail but score on. Entrees average "2", Mains "4" & that's out of 10. Cake provided 10/10. I was driving so only drinking soft drinks & water (Schooner of soda water $3.50) So to sum up, not in a rush to go back!! However, on the drive home we decided we had more to talk about than if we'd been to a reliable, good food venue with great service. Then that's all we would have to discuss 😂😂 Great night with great relatives & friends but avoid at all costs if you're looking for good food & service. I'm kind of glad we came home & didn't stay. I'll leave that to those that did to comment. Oh will say this, all bottles of Red wine set at $25!! They obviously have no idea, my wife scored a bottle of Milton Pino Noir for that price, so no complaints there, although I never got to sample 😖 😖 At 8.30pm when we'd just finished meals staff started cleaning glasses, some half full, off tables pretty much kicking us out 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Cheers everyone

We had an awesome experience staying here for 2 nights! Love the vintage feel of the property! Colin was so accomodating and welcoming to us, he gave us food to feed the horses and some tips of things to do in the area. It was a very homely feel in the room. Reccomend !!

We had a recent one night stay here. We were booked into a Room called the Loft so when we got shown to a Room in the main building was a bit puzzled. The Room we got was a very dated looking Pink Room. We were expecting it to be a bit of a different kind of place and that it was! But I was somewhat disappointed and pleased we only had to stay one night. Part of the pink wallpaper was starting to peel off the wall. Plus the room had a bit of an unpleasant smell to it. Which we later found out was a HouseCleaner going a little overboard on a cleaning product. In general the whole property looked liked it needed to be given a little more attention. The Towels in the bathroom were thin and old. I couldn't really see many of the animals that were advertised Which is what got me there in the first place. A couple of older horses that needed a good groom and some Chooks was what I saw. The Compendium on the Table was mainly showing the Owners first building the place in the "90's and hadn't been updated. Hatchers was probably very good in it's heyday back in the "90"s. But now I feel it looks a little tired.

I stayed with a friend there for a week. The room had a lovely romantic feel with antique furniture and quirky decoration. There was a basic kitchen [2 burner cooktop, microwave, jug, toaster, cutlery & crockery. Need pots/pans to cook though]. Working spa in room. Nice aircon for hot days [lol although we hit Tassie winter so toasty warm instead]. Big screen TV & nice daybed to snuggle on. Lovely view & quite close to the main street of Richmond with all their activities. They can provide dinner in their dining room, although we chose to cook for ourselves. Did take advantage of their $17 full breakfasts on a couple of days. Their coffee was great & there is a lovely courtyard you can sit at outside. Lots of native animals about. Oh & even though the premises appeared busy, rooms are well insulated, sound proofed and quite with defent sun-block curtains. Enjoyed our stay. All Thanks to our hosts.
