Keflavík International Airport

3.9
(10368)
Airport
Keflavík International Airport is Iceland's main airport, but it maintains a clear and well-organized structure with manageable walking distances for passengers. The airport offers a good selection of shops and friendly staff. While some travelers feel that more seating would be beneficial, others appreciate the overall calm atmosphere and efficient service. Despite its small size, navigating the airport is straightforward, making it easy to find baggage claim and exit points.
Arriving and departing from Keflavík Airport was really smooth. Everything was fast and well-organized, from check-in to security. Staff were helpful and the facilities were clean. Overall, a very hassle-free experience. Definitely an excellent airport!
Aatish B — Google review
Arriving at KEF was a breeze. Went through customs quicker than expected and this small airport was easy to navigate. Departing is another story. Again, getting through security and checking in went better than expected. The only complaint I have is by the gates. There are no seats and the gates are so close together. It is mass chaos. However, I do have a travel hack for you. If you are by the gates in the 30s, there is a diner type place to eat. Go to the seating up by the counter to the right. You’ll see that there is a booth in the back and nothing behind it. In the back of that lone booth is a hidden two-level platform that was the perfect spot to sit with your bags and be near to the gates. Otherwise, you’re subjected to sitting on the floor or the kids playground.
Frank R — Google review
The airport is not that big and it’s quite clean. The toilets are also clean and they even have small light at the handle if it’s free or occupied. We arrive early evening so it was quiet for international airport. There are several sitting areas forward visitors which comfort enough just for short moment. But they are really big lacked of seating area for departure passengers which can be improved in the futures.
KN I — Google review
Had a very quick layover here traveling to Copenhagen. I was able to quickly find a souvenir, drink, and use the toilet before departing. Passport control was also pretty quick with a lot of lines to speed up the process.
Alex B — Google review
Due to the heavy snowfall, the airport/airline arranged affected passengers to different hotels. There were 2 queues for solo travellers and couples/families. But the airport staffs could not be sure on their process and nobody is sure where to queue. We were informed by the airport staff that the couple/families queue is only for a specific airline, we have to go another queue when we were already queuing for 30 min. We spoke to the staff subsequently and she was confused herself. Everyone has no idea where they were going until we reach the destination. We were allocated to a hotel 90km away from the airport. The bus is full of passengers departing at different time. We were informed that there will be 3 buses to fetch us back to the airport (7am, 11am and 3pm). However, at 4am, the hotel receptionist knocked on our door and informed us there is only 1 bus coming and it’s coming soon. Nobody know how soon is soon, we are unable to do any planning. When the bus arrived, it could only onboard less than 10 passengers as the bus came with other passengers. I understand the delayed/cancelled flights are not within the airport/airline control but I am sure there is a better planning to all these. Witnessed quite a number of airport/airline staffs standing around the airport not doing anything to manage the crowd, they were literally just gathering and chit chatting which is quite unprofessional in my opinion. Status as of now: we are still at the hotel located 90km away and we don’t know what time is the next bus coming.

Visiting Reykjavík in winter is a magical experience. The city may be small, but it’s full of charm, with colorful houses, cozy cafés, and friendly people. The snow-covered streets and twinkling lights create a warm and festive atmosphere, even though the days are short. It’s also the perfect season to enjoy Iceland’s natural wonders, like the Northern Lights, frozen waterfalls, and nearby hot springs. Despite the cold, Reykjavík feels welcoming and peaceful
SG — Google review
Airport is 45 minutes from Reykjavík. Easy to navigate if driving, signs (font) is small in English language. If traveling international, you must wait in a customs line to proceed to your gate after security check point. If you have lounge access, don’t wait until plane boarding time to proceed to the gate, the walk may be up to 15 minutes. Lacks seating at gate areas. Be prepared to walk around to rest your weary bones.
June W — Google review
I really wanted to give this place a good review. And overall it is a pretty solid airport. But I feel like even after 3 expansions in the last few years this airport is still too small for how many passengers it now has due to the boom in the tourism industry for Iceland. I believe this airport needs further expansion and it needs to get bigger. Also, there's a lot of checkpoints for international flights which is bit of a nuisance for season travelers as other major airports have one major security point and then you are good to go.

Lava Car Rental is a reliable car rental company located near Keflavik International Airport, making it convenient for travelers to start their Iceland adventure as soon as they arrive. Established in 2016, Lava Car Rental offers a wide selection of new and well-maintained rental cars at competitive prices. Customers appreciate the personalized service and flexibility, such as being able to extend rentals directly with the company.
Service was great! The car was fantastic and met all our needs! Loved getting to drive a stick shift again! Make sure you get an F road rated car! You can see much more of Iceland with it! Added Info the car may need a fuel additive called AV Blue. Keep your receipt and they will reimburse you when you turn the car in! The pictures I shared are on the F class roads.

A very good car rental company in Iceland Both check-in and out went smoothly. They check the car conditions before and after car rental. The staff were nice. Everything was smooth and great. I will probably hire this company again in my future trips to Iceland.
Kelvin L — Google review
I’ve rented from Lava Car Rental twice, in June of 2022 and recently in September 2025. Both times, I requested a Hyundai Tucson and both experiences were perfect (seriously). The Tucson is a great option for almost everything Iceland can throw at you. It’s comfortable and holds the road really well in rain and strong winds. I’d read reviews for multiple companies but Lava stood out, somehow. I’m grateful for that because they’re friendly, direct, knowledgeable and I appreciated their advice and experience. I never had a problem to reach out to them for, but feel they would have done the best they could, given the scenario. I believe they care about their reputation. They’re located minutes from KEF and have a convenient shuttle. I’ll definitely use them again.
Rambleheart — Google review
Very smooth process for self pickup and return, hassle free at Lava car rental. They have shuttle to pickup from KEF airport to the car rental location. Full insurance protection. The team of staff all are very prompt at reply all my email enquires. They will sent all very useful information details before and during my road trip. Highly recommended. Thanks.
Shelley W — Google review
Great customer service! Quick pick up and no issues or pressure to buy more. Car was in great quality and a much better price than other rental companies. When I visit Iceland in the future, I will definitely go with Lava Car Rental again!
Elliot F — Google review
I would hire a care through Lava Car rental again. I rented the Renault Trafic, and it was clean and spacious. The only thing is, I had to go find the truck once I signed all paperwork. Most car rental companies will drive the vehicle to the front of the office, once they have inspected it; However, once I was given the key, I was told where the truck was parked, which was not clear to me. So, I just kept hitting the remote button until I found it. I also received an email of my contract and the contract stated that the fuel was on 100%. Once I got in, the fuel was in fact, on less than half and most definitely not 100%. When I returned the car on my last day, the office staff worker asked why the truck was not returned on 100% and I told her that when I picked up the van, it was on less than half a tank of fuel. She just said okay. So, I ask Lava Car to PLEASE accurately put how much fuel is in the vehicle's tank before sending the customer their signed agreement. It makes it look as if the customer is not following the company's protocol, when they return the car. I refused to put the fuel on 100%, when it was clearly not there when I picked it up. I put the fuel on the same amount, as what it was on when I picked it up. Other than that, I would rent again.
Sheree H — Google review
I’ve looked into many different car rental companies in Iceland and decided to made a reservation with Lava rental. Overall experience I’m satisfied from the booking through return the car and dropped off at the airport. I picked up the car after working hours so i needed full coverage insurance which i needed it anyway. For pickup service at the airport as easy as video instruction, checking in and pick up the car key as email instruction with the code. For returning the car and dropping off at the airport just allow extra time since you may need to wait 30mins or so. Finally i highly recommend. The staffs are friendly and helpful.
Thornchaya N — Google review
I booked a petrol-fuelled car from Lava Car Rental in November 2024 for my July 2025 trip, and my confirmation explicitly stated “gasoline.” Nowhere on the confirmation did it mention a plug-in hybrid (see attached picture). Yet when I arrived in Reykjavík, that’s exactly what I was handed. While plug-in hybrids can shine in city driving—using electric mode and regenerative braking to conserve fuel—my itinerary was almost entirely long stretches on Iceland’s open roads at around 90 kph. The battery depleted almost immediately, leaving the petrol engine to handle the full load; in “ECO” mode the car only managed about 12 km per litre, far below what a conventional petrol model would deliver. And consider in Iceland fuel cost is about € 2.30 per liter! Because of that inefficiency, I spent twice my planned fuel budget, forcing me to cancel several pre-planned activities, including visits to the hot springs. To add insult to injury, the car arrived without a front licence plate (see picture). When, still at the counter, I raised the issue, staff simply told me not to worry—claiming Icelandic police are lenient about missing plates—yet they refused to provide any written assurance. I spent the entire trip anxiously watching the road, convinced I might be pulled over and fined. Booking so far in advance should have ensured the correct vehicle, but Lava Car Rental’s bait-and-switch on fuel type and their cavalier attitude toward legal compliance completely ruined my Icelandic adventure. Choose a more reputable company that honors its promises.

Keflavik boasts its own heated water park named Waterworld, offering enjoyment for all ages. The facility comprises an indoor pool measuring 50 meters, four hot tubs, and an outdoor pool spanning 25 meters. Additionally, it includes various engaging aquatic attractions for children such as shallow water pools, inflatable structures, and slides. Although the use of phones or cameras is prohibited due to existing photographs on Google Maps, some images indicate play areas specifically designed for kids.
Good sauna + steam. The room outside has a shower you can make 100% cold which is perfect for drinking. The cold pot is large and consistent. Lap pools in and out. Great for kids. After construction I hope they add some more massage pots

The tourist pools like Blue Lagoon, Myvatn Baths, cater to luxury and romance, and the views. Waterworld caters to the locals... Waterworld has the hot tub, then a hot tub with turbo jets 10x more powerful than you'd expect, then a hotter tub, as well as the sauna and steam room. Then there are the two water slides of awesome, And the lanes and general swimming area!!

It is a fantastic place to relax after work, meet and talk to other people in saunas and hot tubs. Of course it's a swimming pool so it's also good to have some water activities. A bit crowded late afternoons and in sunny weather. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Viking World, also known as Vikingaheimar, is a museum dedicated to the history and culture of the Vikings who settled in Iceland. The star attraction is a replica of a 9th-century Viking ship that visitors can climb aboard. The museum features exhibitions showcasing real Viking objects, along with outdoor exhibits that are popular with children. Additionally, there's a cafe serving local-inspired dishes during the summer months.
I wish I could give 10 ⭐. This was such a cool experience. It was very interactive with Viking garb to try on (including what appear to be historically accurate helmets!). Walking onto and about the longship was like stepping back into time. The exhibits with replicas and artifacts were engaging--even and to our 11 year old. Finding this was a great surprise.
Ashley H — Google review
I liked that it was close to the airport, yet has enough to see to kill a few hours. I almost read everything, I also liked that you are allowed to step foot in the boat that crossed the ocean for the 1000 year anniversary. I would have loved to read some more, but my son was antsy. We did, however, play some chess downstairs.
Almut G — Google review
Small reasonable priced museum near the airports. Tickets are discounted if bought online. The museum focuses on the viking era of exhibition and settlements. Its more reading than artifacts, but I enjoy viking history. I took my time and spent about 1-1.5 hours. Gift shop has neat souvenirs. Free parking. Water closes inside.
Toni S — Google review
We had some time in Keflavík before checking into our hotel so we decided to check this museum out. So glad that we did as we really enjoyed it. Don’t let the outside of the building deceive you. It looks small on the outside but it is packed full of exhibits in different halls so there is a ton to see and learn about Viking culture. The replica of the Viking ship was really cool and you were able to walk on it as well. Staff were excellent and friendly. Well worth checking out if you are in the area.
Barbara T — Google review
Very informative museum on the entire Viking history...will take several hours to really read, see and experience the place in its entirety. The ship that sailed from Iceland to Canada in 2000 for the millennial celebration of Leif Erikson's crossing. Unsure if you're concerned about price, but fairly pricey admission tickets if you just come on your own. I did not have time to tour the grounds.
Cliff T — Google review
Saw some Innuit magical creatures carvings that I never saw in any of the other museums so that was really cool. There's also a large viking boat that you can board (it's a recreation, but really good one). There's also chainmai and helmets you can put on to take photos, they're quite heavy
Krippled S — Google review
A very good museum with a Viking replica boat from the 9th century, which one time did cross the ocean up to New York. There's a lot of explained history.

Stekkjarkot is a charming glimpse into Iceland's past, showcasing traditional 1800s fisherman's cottages crafted from turf, stone, and timber. Located on the stunning Reykjanes Peninsula, this heritage site offers visitors an enchanting experience reminiscent of a fantasy world. The unique turf houses served as homes for Icelanders who relied heavily on the sea for their livelihood rather than farming livestock.
Interesting little spot to stop at. There is a sign in English with details and you can perk inside. You can also walk to a few other interesting things and drive 2 minutes to the Viking ship that you can walk in. Worth the stop!

Stopped by before leaving to the airport. Really cool to see how some of the houses were built and how they may have lived. No other tourists were around which was nice. Couldn't go inside though. Worth a stop to take a look.

Visited 2 years ago: A nice little detour to visit traditional 1800's fisherman's cottage made from turf, stone & timber. There's a nice information sign and area to take photos. Not visited by many visitors in the area. But great to visit briefly before heading to nearby attractions. Note, the route to this area is not paved.

Nothing special, but is cool to see how the Icelanders lived long ago. It's small, but free and worth the walk around if you have time to kill on the way to the airport or are stopping at the Viking museum. There's even animals you can pet!

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the pastries and coffee options available.
I’d go back as a must stop. Close to airport. Good variety of donuts and pastries. Cookies are also soft, chewy, and taste great. Great flavor and texture. Wish they carried cold teas. Worth a quick stop.

We were on our way to the airport to fly home and were looking for a bakery to get a coffee and a snack. This one popped up on Google maps. We stopped in and picked a few of the freshly made desserts and coffee. We took them to go and ended up at the lighthouse to have the snacks. They were fantastic! Freshlyade, still warm, and very good. The lady that serves us did a good job of giving us the overview of the selections. If we come back, will definitely hit this spot.

We wanted to have breakfast outside our hotel buffet and found this bakery. Sandwiches are tasty, and the variety of sweet stuff looks great. Kind staff. Cozy tables. One thing I was disappointed was the taste of coffee. Actually, there was no scent of coffee I could feel. They just used a cheap auto machine.

Our first and last stop in Iceland. Coffee is divine; baked goods are delightful. They're used to tourists there and are patient when you're dealing with foreign coins and happy to explain all the unique treats they have. You can sit inside or out. It's warm and delicious inside.

Big vegan cinnamon buns with chocolate and caramel flavours. They have a list on the wall of what is vegan. There were a few other things there as well that were vegan. They are pretty good but definitely get a little sticky. They were around ~500/$5-6CDN. Some parking outside of the building.

Olsen Olsen is one of the most often mentioned places in Reykjanes Peninsula for its delicious food. The peninsula offers a variety of dining options, from fast food diners to high-quality restaurants, each with its own unique taste. Located in the southwestern corner of Iceland, this area has some of the best cheap eats and breakfast restaurants, including Olsen Olsen.
We had the chance of getting burger and they were amazing, with french and curly fries really nice and crunchy. The size of the meal (burger & fries) are more than enough for fill you up and leave with a smile. The atmosphere is nice (American/rock 'n roll vibes) and the relatively small personelle worked really hard to serve us the food quickly despite the restaurant being full. Definitely recommended.

A decent place for a burger and fries. Both our burgers were cooked to pink, and the fries were super crispy and delicious. Price point isn't bad for what you get. Id definitely recommend the stop if you want a good sit-down burger that won't break the bank.

This restaurant offers a selection of unique fast food in a dinner atmosphere. We had burgers and fries which were excellent with two ice cold Applesin's. It's near the airport and Happy Campers. For what it's worth we'd go again.

If you’re looking for a sit-down meal close to the airport—Olsen Olsen is a decent option. The inside is reminiscent of a US diner with license plates and American artifacts adorning the walls. There is a small parking lot on the side and you order at the counter. Service was good, but not great. There weren’t many staff and the ones that I did see were hiding in the kitchen on their cell phones. I got the fish and chips, which was good, but not great compared to the other places that I had it. Fries were very good and it also came with a salad. Presentation was nice and if you are in a pinch for a quick meal before the airport, this place is a suitable option.

Giantess Cave is a quirky attraction located just five minutes from Keflavik Airport. It's home to a friendly giantess with a loving heart, and visitors can explore the cave and take photos with the giantess sculpture. The cave features various elements from Icelandic children's stories, including a full-size giantess, Giganta. The site offers an unusual and free opportunity for families and curious travelers to immerse themselves in local folklore while waiting for their flights.
A nice, small stop to see, with no wait or admission fee.
Chanda S — Google review
This is a fun, child-friendly attraction at the north end of the promenade in Keflavik. Basically, you find a playful cave which a huge chair in front. Inside there is a bed, shoes and toothbrush fit for a giantess, which is also inside the cave house. Opening times seem to be 10am to 5pm daily unless weather is bad. Entry is free.
Brad — Google review
A fun 10 minute diversion. Based on a children's book, the giantess sleeps in her cave. You can hear her snoring.
Bill B — Google review
Little kids would love it! Fun place to visit in the KEF airport area as a quick 10 min stop .
Leah D — Google review
A very whimsical art display that presents Gigantica the giantess. She collects pacifiers from parents of children who don't need them anymore. loved the pacifier tree.
Laura J — Google review
Fantastic display. Well worth the visit. Kids would love it. Surprised to find out it was free entry and no charge for parking.
Andrea A — Google review
I'd hate for this to become a big tourist attraction.. but... its awesome. The story behind this place is great. And if you wait long enough you'll hear her make a different sound other than snoring... unless you're a prude... you'll laugh out loud. My video won't show that secret. You'll have to visit teehee

We had some time to kill after landing at the airport and before heading to the Blue Lagoon, so we were looking for things to do. This was one thing that sounded interesting, so we stopped by. It was so cute, and so funny. Kids would love it!

Specialty Museums
Located in Reykjanesbaer, Iceland, the Duus Museum is a captivating art and cultural center with exhibition halls showcasing concerts, local museums, and mixed cultural activities. Visitors can explore history, nature, and fine art within its walls. The museum features a three-story Trading House from 1877 as its core and highlights include Grim Karlsson's boat models and a 19th-century winding wheel once used for lifting goods.
Well-presented expositions on one of Iceland's most important victories, its independence. Collection and advertising of being hit with a plastic bag.
Ramunė J — Google review
This museum is more than just miniature boats. It contains collections of various items belonging to townspeople. There was an extensive pen collection, sewing machine room, even a space dedicated to the designs of plastic bags over the years. There was also some video art in a big black room that seemed to be in Arabic. I gave 4 stars because it all did feel a bit random, but it was very quaint. I probably wouldn't go back, but it certainly kept us engaged because each room was unpredictable!

132 shipsmodels of Icelandic fishing boats but they have been moved to the loft. You have to go through some rooms with "art" and find the stairs. There are no signs saying so They plan to restructure with fishing and art separated in the winter 22-23 Seniors free :-) Open on whitmonday!

Nice museum with a lovely collection of model boats, sewing machines, local art, small geological section. Plus some other local displays. Well worth an hour of your time if you are in Keflavík.

Listasafn Reykjanesbæjar is a local modern art museum situated along the marina, offering ever-changing exhibits that provide a fresh and exciting experience with each visit. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the marina while exploring the airy facility. The museum also offers insightful presentations on Reykjanes' history, presented in a visually engaging manner. Guests have praised the friendly and informative staff who are eager to share details about local attractions.
Excellent and very descriptive museum! We learned a lot about Reykjanes history, which was very graphically presented. The lady at the reception was very attentive, friendly and gave us a lot of information about attractions in the area including the Bridge between continents and the excellent fish restaurant Vitinn.
Afrodite L — Google review
The welcome at the cultural center and the heritage museum is as warm as I found it everywhere in keflavik. Well I'm not a fan of abstract art, the heritage museum has a mind-blowing and very original collection of items including thousands of ballpoint pens, boxes of matches and pocket lighters, ending incredible 1170 hand carved fishing vessel replicas. If only for this latter part, do not miss the third floor in the Attic space of the building.

Grocery store
Bónus is a budget-friendly supermarket chain in Iceland, known for its reasonably priced goods. Despite its smaller size compared to other supermarkets, it is conveniently located near the airport, making it a popular choice for last-minute souvenir and snack shopping before leaving the country. Customers appreciate the good selection of products at fair prices and find it convenient for picking up groceries and snacks after arriving at KEF airport. The store offers a variety of goods and is praised for its affordable prices.
The best prices in town in most of the products. Nice crew super polite and helpful. Completely recommended
Jerry V — Google review
This is definitely the better Bonus in Reykjanesbaer. The store in Keflavik just off the main street is much smaller and has a smaller range of products than the one in Njardvik, but nevertheless you run into mostly locals rather than crowds of tourists and pseudo refugees. It's atmospheric, it's clean, it's safe. In front of the store quite a large parking lot, which is completely sufficient for all customers. Unfortunately, as it is in this chain, there is a lack of better quality products.
Ss S — Google review
Great supermarket for everyday items at decent prices. Look out for bigger deals on produce or other select items in the back of the store. I found packs of 4 large avocados for 199 ISK! Can’t beat that. The self checkout machines work flawlessly.
Michael H — Google review
Me and my husband came here for tomato sauce after not being able to find any in another shop. We had a bag from the other shop with us and as we entered the chill section, one of the employees (a blonde woman) started waving and pointing at our bag and shouting very aggressively in Icelandic. She then decided to have us walk to the other side of the store and give one of the staff our bag until we finished shopping looking through everything and using very rude language. We clearly had a receipt in the bag. The woman at the self checkouts then proceeded to look through this bag when we were scanning our items to leave. There should be a sign clear that you aren’t allowed another bag in the shop with you but this is stupid as it’s your own belongings? Also the employees need more manners. Won’t be back here.

Kef Restaurant, located within Hotel Keflavik, is a popular dining spot offering breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast menu boasts an array of delectable options including open sandwiches and Icelandic superfoods like Skyr and Lysi. The restaurant prides itself on serving flavorful meals made with fresh Icelandic ingredients. Guests can expect attentive and professional service in a smart-casual setting.
Delicious food and great atmosphere! Food came fast and service was wonderful. We got the duck wings, fish of the day(monk fish), lobster soup, KEF king burger and all was yummy! Loved the focaccia as well!

You would expect a place like this in Paris or Rome. I was shocked by its grand luxury and beauty. The Amazing food and service. Met the owner and got a personal tour of the Hotel restaurant and spa and still in awe of the property. Food is absolutely amazing. Can’t wait to come back.

This hotel restaurant was recommended by local people. The town it locates is close to Blue Lagoon and the international airport. We had an early dinner before visiting the blue lagoon. Considering the price against its environment and food quality, we found it an excellent choice in Iceland, especially the 3 courses chef dinner set. A la carte, the local cod was well cooked. The best cooked cod fish among our limited 3 times experiences in Iceland. We saw most customers are local people. A group came celebrate birthday that evening.
Q K — Google review
We had an excellent dinner in a very kitch decorated place. My fish monk was amazing, the tiryaki salmon was very good . The staff is really agreeable. Excellent cuisine really ; the best we had in Iceland. Though we had to wait 50 mn to get our dishes; the staff warned us about them being late which was appreciated.
Jerome G — Google review
Steak salad was very good, with a well cooked (rare) and generous portion of flank steak; wasabi sauce was delicious also. Service was generally good, although the waiter came to take our order after only having Sat down for a minute, and he was a bit nonverbal about the whole thing. Atmosphere was good, although the dance music played was a bit loud and in my opinion didn't match the elegance of the venue.
Nik C — Google review
The food was mediocre for the price. The server had to keep coming to the table to have us tell her what drinks we ordered( Cabernet and an expresso martini). There were only 3 of us, they brought the wrong dinner for one of us, a hamburger instead of a salad. They didn’t bring the right dinner till the rest of us were done. It’s the kind of place where they figure you aren’t a local and won’t be coming back so they don’t really care if you like it or not.
Melinda B — Google review
My wife picked out this restaurant last minute and wow it was a real winner. Amazing food that we had to come back to experience one more time to try some more of their food. To start with their bread and butter is just exquisite. It could almost be a dessert. The first day I got the cod and my wife got a burger. It was some of the best cod I have ever gotten. The flavors work so well with this and it was cooked perfectly. I can’t remember much about my wife’s cheeseburger other than it being good. If I were to complain about one thing it would be the fries. I am not a skinny fry fan and I realize that some people are so maybe you’ll like them even if you’re wrong. Lol. The second day I got the arctic char and my wife got the lamb. I really enjoyed the arctic char but my wife’s lamb was unfortunately a bit tough. The flavor was at least good but I would expect it to be more tender. All in it wasn’t perfect but still totally deserving of 5 stars as the food was delicious and the prices were fair for Iceland.
RVCrazy C — Google review
If I would have trusted the poor reviews, I would have made a big mistake. Us and our friends had dinner at Kef Restaurant on our last evening in Iceland and it was an amazing dinner and a great experience❤️🫶Alexandru, our waiter, was really helpful and his recommendations were just what we needed. We had Lobster soup, some starters, lamb dish as well as char dish, absolutely everything was amazing. 🤩 including the desert. Check the photos🫶Overall, I would rate more than 5 stars if possible🙏

Day 4

Off the beaten path

Mountain peak
Nature & Parks
Mountains
Keilir is a distinctive, cone-shaped mountain that can be seen from Reykjavik on clear days. Standing at 380 meters tall, it was formed during subglacial eruptions in the ice age. The hike to its summit is relatively easy for those in good physical condition, and the breathtaking view from the top on a clear day makes it well worth the effort.
Mount Keilir (378.m) was made in a volcanic eruption under a glacier during the last Ice Age giving it the distinctive cone shape. The drive from the highway up towards the mountain is 8.km on a ROUGH gravel road. The car park is aprox. 45.min walk from the mountain and the hike up on the mountain top it self is approximately about 30-40.min for an average hiker. On the top there is a perfect view over the whole of the Southern Peninsula of Iceland. Things to be aware of: -Bad or no telephone reception in the whole area. -Hiking route is very exposed to the weather and windy condition. -Not recommended to hike this mountain in limited visibility or icy-condition.
Sigursteinn S — Google review
Seen it from a distance on a bus ride. Beautiful volcano
Be28ans — Google review
very nice open view, highest peak in the area but the last bit is quite steep and slippery because of the sand and gravel so not too easy
Larissa B — Google review
Nice and close volcano to visit if your just staying in the southwest area. I didn't get very close to it but there is trail that leads to the summit.
Dennis S — Google review
Amazing, enigmatic, hyaloclastite mountain. It was created during subglacial eruptions during the ice age. It is easy to climb, and the view from its top on a fine day is to be remembered. On top of the of the mountain is a perfect view over the whole Reykjanes Peninsula. There is a concrete table with a view direction map on a metal plate. Be careful: -hiking route condition depends on the weather -windy area -there are no information desk, toilet, shop, etc -poor or no phone reception 4x4 cars can drive on Höskuldarvegi and there is a parking at Oddafell and from there is a trail to Keilir. From Höskuldarvellir there is ca. 3 km walk to Keilir. Keilir is good visible from the highway no 41 (e.g.when you drive from/to Keflavík-Reykjavík).
