Shillong in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Shillong, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Shillong offers a mix of pine-covered hills, pleasant weather, and panoramic viewpoints that have long made it a popular hill retreat in Northeast India. The city is known for attractions such as Ward’s Lake, Umiam Lake, and nearby waterfalls, as well as its churches and remnants of colonial-era architecture. Its lively café culture and reputation for local rock music give it a youthful, laid-back atmosphere. Shillong also serves as a convenient base for visiting other scenic parts of Meghalaya, including the living root bridges and caves around Sohra (Cherrapunji) and Mawlynnong.
With favorites like Rhino Heritage Museum, Umiam Lake, and The Wok La Chaumiere, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like City Hut Family Dhaba and Jadoh so you can get the best taste of Shillong while you’re here. Waterfalls
Elephant Falls in Shillong is a stunning multi-tiered waterfall surrounded by picturesque scenery. Visitors can easily explore the area through walking trails and stairs. The falls are formed by three small streams merging to create a beautiful cascade. While in Shillong, tourists can also trek to the top of Shillong Peak for panoramic views, visit the historic Shillong Golf Course, offer prayers at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, and experience local shopping at Police Bazar.
Excellent Water Fall to see very nearly. Elephant Falls is a popular three-tiered waterfall in Shillong, Meghalaya, known for its natural beauty and scenic views. Named after a now-destroyed elephant-shaped rock, the falls are also called "Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew" or "the three-step waterfall". Visitors can enjoy well-maintained paths, take photos, and see the cascades from different viewpoints. Elephant Falls is one of the most famous and easily accessible waterfalls in Shillong, often considered a must-visit stop for anyone exploring Meghalaya. Located just about 12 km from the city center, this beautiful three-tiered waterfall offers a refreshing escape into nature, surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sound of cascading water. The falls are named after a rock that once resembled an elephant, though it was destroyed in an earthquake many years ago. Visitors can descend through well-built steps that lead to three different levels of the falls — each offering its own unique view and charm. The lowest tier is the most picturesque, where the water gushes down dramatically, making it a favorite spot for photos. The area is well-maintained, with proper walkways, railings, and small shops near the entrance selling local crafts and snacks. It’s a great place to relax, take pictures, and enjoy the cool misty air. Highlights: Three-tiered waterfall surrounded by dense greenery Conveniently located close to Shillong city Safe, well-maintained pathways and viewing platforms Excellent spot for photography and short nature walks Tips: Wear comfortable shoes — the steps can be steep and slippery. Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds. The best time to visit is during or just after the monsoon for full water flow. Spend time at the bottom tier for the best views and photos.

Elephant Falls in Shillong is truly a natural gem and one of the most popular tourist spots in Meghalaya. The waterfall is divided into three layers, each offering a unique charm. The first tier is broad and calm, while the second and third drops are more powerful and picturesque. The view becomes increasingly beautiful as you go down the well-maintained stairway surrounded by lush greenery. The place is easily accessible from Shillong city, and the entry ticket is quite affordable. There are small shops near the entrance selling souvenirs, local snacks, and tea. The best time to visit is during or just after the monsoon when the water flow is at its peak. Photography lovers will find this place perfect for capturing nature’s beauty. However, be prepared for a bit of walking and stair climbing. Overall, Elephant Falls is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Shillong—peaceful, scenic, and refreshing!

The place is on the way to Mawphlang Sacred Forest. Approx 18km from Shillong. Its a nice spot. What all we can see and do 1. Entry fee - 100 per adult 2. 2 wheeler and 4 wheeler can be taken. 3. Refreshment and some locally made products can be bought from the shops at the entrance. 4. Three stage waterfalls is there. First is at the same level while for others you have to go down through stairs. 5. Garden on the other side of stage three water fall. 6. Bathing and Swimming is not at all allowed. 7. Average crowding.
ABHISHEK S — Google review
This is a must go destination while travelling in Shillong. The local Khasi name of the falls is Ka Kshaid Lai, which literally means waterfalls with three stages. You can not see all three stages together but you have to go down through stairs to visit each stage ......all three stages are very beautiful. The largest one is the third and lowest stage. This area also have plenty of parking and good food options. Also good for buying souvenirs.

Indeed an elephant, This elephant falls has 3 falls, first at the top, then the mid- layer and then you land to the bottom. You need to trek for 15-20mins, the stairs are proper so won't be a difficult trek, it would be total of 150-200 steps. If you plan to visit elephant falls, please wear proper shoe as sandals might slip, rest everything is perfect 🙂

One of the famous tourist attraction in Shillong, Meghalaya though it's distant from the city. Good place for visit, place is neat and clean and very well maintained. Ticket needs to buy for entry. Parking for both two wheeler and four wheeler is available. Snacks and tea shops are there just outside the entry gate. Please keep the place clean and try to visit in monsoon. ✌🏼

This spot is located within a government premises. The waterfall is beautiful, though being a popular tourist attraction, it’s not exactly quiet or secluded. It’s a must-visit if you’re traveling with family, offering a safe and enjoyable environment for children as well.

Military Museums
The Air Force Museum, situated in the Upper Shillong area of Shillong, is a captivating military history museum dedicated to India's air force. It offers a compelling insight into the courageous history of India's defense through an array of exhibits including weaponry, plane models, uniforms worn by air force pilots, and memorabilia from significant conflicts such as the Indo-China and Indo-Pak Wars.
Must visit place. U and ur kids may enjoy this place. Rs. 40 per adult entry fee. There is nothing u can carry except ur camera and water bottle inside the museum. U may click pics inside the museum only due to security reasons. Cash, card, UPI any mode of payment u may use for ticket. For kids, fighter jet joystick game is also available inside the museum at Rs.50. My kids enjoyed it. All north east states glimpse also there small shop for buying things also there but prices are higher than outside. Many aircraft also there for watching. A small garden also there. There one canteen also u may enjoy food at cheaper rate. They accept cash and UPI mode only. If you are going to eat non veg, first count the pieces before eating. Bcs they said us 8 pieces of motton in the dish we will get but we had 5 only. After asking them about this issue, they said they served us 8 pieces. And they can not do anything. In one word, they cheated us.
Devender K — Google review
A must-visit destination for aviation and military enthusiasts! Located near Elephant Falls in Upper Shillong, this museum offers a unique glimpse into the glorious history of the Indian Air Force. The outdoor display is impressive — featuring real aircraft like the MiG-21, Mi-4 helicopter, Hunter fighter, and Caribou transport plane. Inside, the galleries are well-maintained, showcasing war medals, uniforms, aircraft models, missiles, and even a working flight simulator. One section also highlights the rich culture of Northeast India, which adds a unique regional touch. The museum is clean, organized, and has decent facilities like restrooms, parking, and a small souvenir shop. Entry is very affordable (₹30 for adults), but carry a valid Indian photo ID as it's mandatory for entry. Foreign nationals are not allowed due to security reasons. Photography is allowed in most outdoor areas, and you can easily spend 1–2 hours exploring everything. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Shillong! ✅ Best Time to Visit: Wednesday to Sunday (closed on Mondays & Tuesdays) ✅ Don't miss the aircraft cockpit you can sit in!

Actually the viewpoint here is Shillong peak which is a hidden gem in meghalaya. Most of the people don't know about this view point from where you can get panaromic view of the whole shillong valley . Even Tour agencies don't go to this place . But this is a must go spot . On a clear weather you can see the whole city from here . This is inside indian air force base . To go here you have to take tickets which costs Rs.100 per person. From the ticket counter you take local taxis (price included on tickets) which you take to shillong peak and get back again. One must carry original ID cards like Adhaar or Voter to enter this air force base camp inside which shillong peak resides. Another information is this shillong peak is near Elephant falls so after visiting shillong peak you can go elephant falls which is about 10 min by car . Do not take pictures or videos of air force base but once you get to shillong peak you can take videos and pictures.

Visited the Shillong Air Force Museum recently , it’s a wonderful place to learn about India’s Air Force history and achievements. The museum is well-maintained with aircraft displays, war memorabilia, and informative exhibits. The staff are polite and helpful, and the surrounding area is very peaceful. A great spot for students, families, and anyone interested in aviation and the armed forces. 🇮🇳✨Jai Hind🇮🇳✨ Bharat Mata ki Jai ✈️🛫

It's an amazing experience to visit the museum. Make sure you carry a valid ID as they will register your name and ID details for security reasons. The museum is quite small but has a good collection of miniature aircraft models and lots of photos. The area outside has life size helicopter, planes, etc. that are just massive and awesome.

Shillong View Point, also known as Shillong Peak, is a popular destination for tourists and day-trippers. Located at an altitude of approximately 2000m above sea level and about 10km from the heart of Shillong City, it offers panoramic views of the city during the day and a mesmerizing sight of city lights at night.
Shillong View Point, also known as Laitkor Peak, truly deserves a 5-star rating. As the highest point in Meghalaya, at 1966 meters, the panoramic views are simply breathtaking. Located roughly 10 kilometers from Shillong city, the journey to the peak is an experience in itself. You'll need to park at the ticket counter and then take a short taxi ride through an Indian Air Force area, which adds a unique touch. The drive, though only 3 kilometers, is a peaceful and scenic ascent, maintained at a gentle 30 km/h. Keep in mind that this tranquil spot closes relatively early, around 4 PM, so plan your visit accordingly. The serene atmosphere and stunning vistas make it an unforgettable destination.

It's a good place to get an aerial view of Shillong city. It was good. The cars are not allowed inside. You need to get the tickets, pass and id proof go inside after verified by the police. And they will provide you the car to go inside also.

Shillong Viewpoint at Laitkor Peak was a mixed experience for me. The view itself is absolutely breathtaking—you get a sweeping panorama of the city, the hills, and on a clear day it feels magical, almost like floating above the clouds. That part really lived up to the hype and made the visit memorable. What disappointed me, though, was how commercialized the whole place felt. Instead of focusing on showcasing culture or giving visitors a deeper experience of the region, everything seemed centered around selling things—photo ops in traditional Khasi attire, snacks, and trinkets. The charm of the natural setting gets a bit overshadowed by the push for money. Despite that, I can’t deny the beauty of the viewpoint itself. The scenery makes it worth a visit, but the experience could have been so much richer if it celebrated the culture as much as the view. For me, it’s a solid 4/5.

“Where clouds guard the city of dreams.” From Shillong View Point, the world below looks like a painting — misty hills, tiny homes, and a city wrapped in clouds. The air carries peace, and the breeze feels like a soft melody from the mountains. 🌫️💚 Standing there, I felt time slow down, as if Shillong itself was smiling back at me. ✨

Just fantastic view. You require to hire a local car @Rs 200/- per car for max 4 people. The entry fee per person is Rs 50/- . The private vehicles are not allowed as it’s a Airforce premises. The view point is about 1.3 Km from the main gate of Airforce Unit of Shillong. You can enjoy nature while seeing the Shillong view from the peak. The view can be watched in very binocular by paying extra Rs 20/ per person The traditional Khasi Attire are available for Rs 100/- per person and you can click photographs for cherishing the moments for the life time. In total a must visit place

Shillong Peak: A Panoramic View with an Unexpected Twist Shillong Peak is one of the highest points in Meghalaya, offering an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the entire city and the surrounding hills. Standing at over 6,000 feet above sea level, the peak provides a breathtaking vantage point where you can see the lush landscapes, rolling hills, and the beauty of nature stretched out before you. On a clear day, the view is truly mesmerizing, with the clouds floating just above the city and the green hills fading into the horizon. One thing to note, though, is the presence of an army base nearby. While I was enjoying the serene atmosphere, I was startled by the sound of gunshots. It turns out there was army training happening in the vicinity, which added an unexpected and somewhat intense element to the experience. Although the gunshots were a bit jarring at first, it wasn’t a major disruption, and it reminded me of the strong military presence in the area. The drive to Shillong Peak is equally stunning, with winding roads and forested paths leading you to the top. The military guards at the entrance are friendly, and the area is well-maintained. Be prepared for some light security checks since the peak is located within a restricted military zone. Overall, Shillong Peak is a must-visit for anyone coming to Meghalaya. The view is unmatched, and while the gunshots from the army training might catch you off guard, they don’t take away from the natural beauty of the place. Just a small quirk of the experience that adds to the uniqueness of your visit!

Nestled in the serene Laitumkhrah locality of Shillong, the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians stands as a stunning testament to faith and artistry. This 20th-century Roman Catholic church, built by German missionaries in 1913, is renowned for its breathtaking stained-glass windows and intricate sculptures that adorn its Gothic architecture. Following a devastating fire in 1936 that destroyed the original wooden structure, this magnificent cathedral was constructed on an artificial sand basin designed to withstand earthquakes.
A Must-Visit Landmark in Shillong The Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians in Laitumkhrah is one of the most iconic and peaceful places in Shillong. Steeped in history, the Cathedral stands on the site of the first Catholic Church built in 1913 by German missionaries. Though the original structure was destroyed by fire on Good Friday in 1936, the current cathedral—built in the 1940s and consecrated in 1947—carries a strong legacy of resilience, faith, and beauty. The architecture is strikingly modern Gothic, built on beds of sand to withstand earthquakes. Inside, the terracotta artwork and stained-glass windows—crafted in Germany and France—beautifully depict the life of Jesus Christ and various Biblical scenes. Don’t miss the Grotto Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Calvary Hill, where a life-size bronze crucifixion statue and the Stations of the Cross add to the spiritual atmosphere. It’s especially moving during Good Friday when special devotions are held here. The Cathedral offers not just a place for prayer, but also a serene escape from the bustle of the city. Whether you're religious or simply appreciate art, history, and quiet reflection, this place is worth visiting. Tip: Visit in the evening for a peaceful ambiance, and take a few moments to read the information board at the entrance—it gives rich context to everything you'll see.
Sarbjeet S — Google review
Nestled atop the serene Laitumkhrah hill in Shillong, the majestic Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians isn’t just a place of worship – it’s a sanctuary where time pauses, noise fades, and the soul takes a deep, quiet breath. A striking piece of architecture wrapped in calm and character, this cathedral is as much a spiritual experience as it is a historical one. A Heavenly Blend of Faith and Form Built in 1936, the cathedral is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and is the principal church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Shillong. Its design is an elegant mix of Gothic and Indigenous styles, blending high arches, stained glass windows, and local artistry into a structure that feels both majestic and grounded. What sets it apart, quite literally, is its location on a hillock, making it visible from miles away — like a lighthouse of faith. The sky-blue exterior contrasts stunningly with Shillong’s often misty skies, creating a canvas that photographers, poets, and peaceful wanderers would agree is divine inspiration at work. Fun Facts to File Under “Did You Know?” - The cathedral was constructed on sand-filled grounds to withstand earthquakes — a wise move in a seismically active region. - It houses the grave of Archbishop Hubert D’Rosario, a revered figure who served the region with tireless devotion. - During Christmas and Easter, the cathedral is a beacon of celebration, with elaborate nativity displays, lights, and hymns that can warm even the chilliest Shillong night. Reverent Review The cathedral isn’t just a monument, it’s a meditative experience in blue and white. Whether you're religious or simply a lover of quiet architecture, this place offers solace. The chirping of birds, the whiff of incense, and the echo of prayers create a soundtrack that stays with you long after you leave. Pro Tip: Visit on a weekday morning. Less crowd, more calm. And don’t forget to light a candle – sometimes, peace starts with a flicker.

The Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Shillong. It’s big, clean, and open to visitors every day with no entry fee. Parking is available too. The stunning architecture and calm atmosphere make it a perfect spot for prayer and reflection. A must-visit with family or friends! ⛪🌿

A very beautiful church with lots of history and many sayings. It has a double stored building type structure which is pretty good. Also, the color of the church matches with the sky and I heard somewhere this church can withstand earthquakes as well. They have made this church so beautiful. Before going, read about the history of the church and then go. There is a packing space also for vehicles on the top and there are some associations as well. It feels good to be there for some time.

Most Beautiful Church in Shillong. A Soulful & Unforgettable Experience! Even though I’m a Hindu, I’ve always felt drawn to peaceful, spiritual places and this church in Shillong truly touched my heart. It's beautifully built across a large area and has two levels both the upper and lower sections are stunning and calm. The entire church is so picturesque that I couldn’t stop taking photos. Every corner was beautiful and serene. But beyond the beauty, what made this visit unforgettable was a very special moment. I wanted to light candles as a prayer, but unfortunately, there was no shop nearby. I was a little disappointed. Just then, a local person saw me and kindly offered me a candle. When I tried to pay, he smiled and said, "You’ve come to God’s house it’s free. Please take it." That moment was so pure and touching. I’ll never forget his kindness it made my entire trip feel truly blessed. This place is not just a church; it’s an experience of peace, humility, and connection beyond religion. Whether you're spiritual or not, this is a place you must visit in Shillong. Highly recommended truly a must-visit! 🙏✨

Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this park is a true gem for those seeking tranquility and a breath of fresh air. Divided into two delightful sections, Animal Land and Kids Park, it offers a serene environment perfect for relaxation and family fun. While Animal Land is currently closed due to an exciting government initiative to transfer the animals to the state zoo, this space is being thoughtfully redesigned to include additional public facilities and a convenient parking lot. Despite this transition, the park's charm remains undiminished, offering an inviting atmosphere for visitors of all ages. The Kids Park is a paradise for children, featuring a variety of engaging activities such as swings, seesaws, and merry-go-rounds. It is a haven of laughter and joy, where little ones can play freely and safely. The weekends, particularly Saturday and Sunday, see the park buzzing with families enjoying their leisure time, taking advantage of the pleasant surroundings. Entry to this delightful oasis is incredibly affordable, with tickets priced at just 20 for adults. This nominal fee ensures access to a well-maintained and welcoming space that provides immense value for visitors. Adding to the park’s appeal is the vibrant street food scene just outside its gates. Here, visitors can indulge in a variety of delicious snacks, making for a perfect end to a day of play and relaxation. Additionally, the availability of free street parking makes visiting the park convenient and stress-free. Loved this place ,enjoyed visiting after a long time. Our little Argha enjoyed a lot playing there. Sad part is zoo is closed for maintainance. Garden is now blooming with Camelia ,Azelia and many other season flowers. Maintained nicely people can spend some time in the nature. We could show Argha only Pelican, and some ducks. Still she was happy. Only the water bodies need some cleaning and maintenance. Ticket price Rs 20 /adult, Rs10/children below 12 years. Still camera charge is Rs.50

Surrounded by manicured gardens, colorful flowers, and shaded walking paths, it’s the kind of place where you instantly slow down. The highlight for me was the charming wooden bridge in the middle—it gives you a picture-perfect view of the lake and the reflections of the trees. Entry is just ₹20, and you can rent a pedal boat for a relaxed ride on the water. It’s clean, well-maintained, and perfect for families, couples, or even solo travelers looking for a calm stroll. The orchids and seasonal blooms add a splash of color, making it a photographer’s delight. In short: peaceful, well-kept, and a refreshing green break from the city’s buzz.

Ward’s Lake in Shillong was my second travel destination, and I had a really peaceful and pleasant experience there. The park is quite large and spread across a big area. It is located right along the main road, so it’s easy to find. There is an entry ticket, and plastic bottles or any kind of plastic items are not allowed inside, which helps keep the place clean and eco-friendly. Inside the park, there are many trees, a big lake with a lot of fish, and small birds flying around. Visitors often feed the fish, and the overall atmosphere is very calm and close to nature. The park is well maintained. Cleaning staff are present and regularly keep the area clean. There is also a small section near a pool where you can rent traditional local dresses and take photos, which is a fun experience. A small café inside the park offers light snacks and drinks, so you can sit and relax for a while. This place is good for walking, relaxing, spending time in nature, and clicking photos. I would definitely recommend visiting it if you're in Shillong.

Wards Lake is a charming little escape in the heart of Shillong. The serene water, surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens and walking paths, makes it perfect for a peaceful stroll or just sitting quietly and soaking in the calm. The wooden bridge across the lake adds a lovely touch, and if you’re lucky, you might spot a few colorful fish swimming by. It’s not a place for adventure seekers, but if you appreciate quiet moments in nature, this spot won’t disappoint.

City Hut Family Dhaba is a charming eatery located in the heart of Shillong, offering a traditional northern Indian menu in a casual setting. The restaurant prides itself on its authentic Indian flavors and warm ambiance, making it an ideal spot for families and friends to enjoy a peaceful dining experience. The establishment is dedicated to preserving the essence of Indian cuisine while providing a space for relaxation and familial bonding.
Best hotel in shillong police bazar with lot of parking space. Here you need to wait atleast 20-25mins to get the table. We tried their iconic badshahi chicken tandoori, mexican spice grilled chicken and penne el fredo chicken pasta, brownie with icecream. All the dishes tasted very well. Price is bit higher but it's definitely worth for the fine dine-in experience.

If you’re someone who appreciates a beautiful ambiance and unique decor, this restaurant will definitely catch your eye. The interior is a charming blend of rustic village aesthetics with life-sized figurines, flowing water features, bamboo decor, and colorful flower arrangements. Every corner seems thoughtfully designed to transport you to a peaceful countryside setting — a perfect place for photos and relaxed conversations. However, when it comes to the food, the experience doesn’t quite match the visuals. The dishes looked promising, but the taste was underwhelming. The flavors lacked depth, and some items felt either too bland or overly spiced without balance.

Place is nicely decorated. Nice atmosphere. But service is very poor. No care taken for guests by sufficient number of waiters. After a long wait and reminders food was served. Butter was missing from butter Naan and too much chilli in chicken. It started burning 🥵 inside. I had to take ice cream to cool my burning tongue 😛. Very bad experience on a very special day of my life.

City Hut Family Dhaba, Shillong – A Perfect Blend of Flavor, Warmth & Comfort City Hut Family Dhaba is hands down one of the most charming and satisfying dining spots in Shillong. Nestled near Ward’s Lake, this restaurant stands out not just for its extensive multi-cuisine menu, but for the cozy wooden interiors, warm lighting, and consistently prompt service that makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. Ambience & Seating: The interiors are tastefully done with a rustic wooden décor that offers a cozy cabin-like feel. Whether you're dining with family, friends, or just seeking a quiet corner for a hearty meal, the seating is spacious, well-maintained, and perfect for long conversations over good food. Service: The staff is courteous, attentive, and efficient. Orders are served timely, and they are happy to make recommendations based on your preferences. Special mention to the hospitality – it reflects a genuine effort to ensure customer satisfaction. Food Experience: The food here is the true highlight. The menu offers a diverse range from Indian, Chinese, and Continental to local favorites. Here’s what we tried and loved: Penne Alfredo: Rich, creamy and loaded with vegetables – the white sauce pasta was indulgent yet balanced, garnished with fresh spring onions. Waldorf Salad: Creamy and refreshing, with the perfect blend of apples, walnuts, cucumber, and pineapple, finished with a cherry on top. Veg Sizzler: Served on a bed of cabbage leaves, it had a smoky, tangy, and spicy profile with well-cooked baby corn, capsicum, and assorted vegetables. Hakka Noodles: Perfectly tossed, neither too oily nor bland, loaded with crunchy vegetables and topped with spring onions for freshness. Menu Variety: From the menu images, you can see that they offer a wide variety across: Seafood delicacies like Cantonese Prawns, Mustard Chilli Prawns, Fish in Garlic Sauce Pasta options like Penne Al Fredo, Fusilli in Tomato Sauce, Spaghetti in Pesto Sauce Desserts including Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Mousse, and Hot Gulab Jamun – you’ll be spoiled for choice. Their dessert display counter is quite inviting, with options like jar cheesecakes, mousse, and brownies clearly labeled and well-presented. Pricing: The prices are very reasonable considering the quality, portion size, and location. Most main course dishes range from ₹370 to ₹600, and desserts are fairly priced too. Cleanliness & Hygiene: The restaurant maintains high hygiene standards. The tables are well set, cutlery is clean, and the surroundings are spotless. Ideal For: Families looking for a hearty meal Tourists exploring Ward’s Lake or Police Bazar nearby Food lovers seeking quality multi-cuisine in a peaceful ambiance Final Verdict: City Hut Family Dhaba isn’t just a restaurant—it’s an experience. Had a really good experience at City Hut Dhaba, Shillong. The service was excellent — Apurva (the manager) and the team handled everything with great professionalism. The food initially came cold, but they sorted it out quickly and made sure we were comfortable. Really appreciate how well they managed the situation. 👏 Special mention to Wendell and the servers for their polite and attentive service — they truly care about their guests. Amazing hospitality overall! 🙌 Just a small suggestion: they could improve on keeping the food hot when served. Otherwise, a great place with wonderful staff and atmosphere. 🍽️✨

Nestled right at Don Bosco Square, Jadoh is a charming little café that serves up an array of traditional Khasi dishes, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring Shillong. This cozy spot, owned by R J Cunville, is particularly popular among students due to its budget-friendly prices and hearty portions.
Loved the Jadoh meal! Amazing food. Balanced plated. The fish ball was great. The pork pieces were succulent and the rice was well cooked. The whole plate is a wholesome meal with great sides. I don't remember the names of each dish but the chutneys on the side were simply amazing!

The Wok La Chaumiere is a popular spot in Shillong known for its unique blend of Shillong Chinese cuisine, featuring momos and chow. It stands out for its consistency and use of fresh veggies like spring onions and green peas. The restaurant offers affordable, generous portions of flavorful dishes such as Vietnamese Non Spicy Pork Executive with Shitake Mushroom Soup.
I enjoyed my dining experience here. I had the pork momo(big) which was really good, so soft and the filling was flavourful. I didn’t really like the sauce served with it though, lacked a bit of spice. I also tried the prawn chow and the American chopsuey and they were both good. The service is outstanding and the ambiance is warm and cozy

I'm puzzled by the loss of authenticity in Shillong restaurants like The WOK, which served subpar food during my recent visit. The hot and sour soup was unappetizing, the chicken chilli and momos were mediocre, the spicy chutney was surprisingly sweet, and the coffee was underwhelming, making for a disappointing dining experience overall.

Delicious Chinese and Thai Cuisine! I'm a regular takeout customer at The Wok Restaurants and I'm always impressed by the flavors and variety of their Pan Asian cuisines. Their menu offers a great selection of classic options, and I've tried several of their popular dishes. Their Soups and Noodles definitely standout for me personally, with perfectly balanced flavors and tender ingredients. I've also enjoyed their Prawn and Chicken Tom Yum & Thai Soup, which has a great balance of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors. The service is always efficient, and the food arrives hot and fresh. I've never had any issues with my orders, and the staff is friendly and helpful when I need to contact them. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic and delicious Chinese and Thai takeout. The quality of the food and the reliable service make it a great choice for a quick and satisfying meal.

Gem of a place in Shillong for Chinese food. We placed our orders to go actually, so i don’t have any photos of them, but while waiting for it- we ordered a tom yum soup(with prawns)- just loved the flavours. The packed food was delicious as well, these flavours were new to me- not your regular desi Chinese, we had the combos- can’t remember exactly what we did order but might have been the balinese executive combo. Just loved it here.

Located in the heart of Shillong, ML 05 Cafe is a unique space that reflects the owner's passion for bikes, sports, and travel. It's a great place to connect with fellow travelers and bikers over comfort foods like Wai wai thukpa and onion bhajia. The cafe's theme pays homage to Shillong's love for vehicles, with seating arrangements made using Naga shawls and Khasi bamboo mats.
Loved the ambience the food. It's a chill cafe admist pine trees. We tried their noodles and chili chicken it was very nice. The garlic bread was kind of Indian version but worth it. A definitely visit if you are nearby

The Bombay spicy wings, farmhouse pizza, and hot chocolate are excellent. However, the Alfredo white pasta and Shillong fried rice are not up to the mark. The washrooms are well-maintained. During billing, the service charge is included by default. Feel free to request them to exclude it and provide a revised bill. Good ambience for clicking some stylish pics.

A hidden gem nestled in the serene pine forests of Shillong, ML 05 Cafe is an absolute must-visit for any food and travel enthusiast. I recently had the pleasure of dining there and was completely captivated by the experience. The cafe's unique, motor-themed ambiance, which celebrates the region's love for bikes and cars, is both quirky and inviting. With a Royal Enfield motorcycle hanging from the ceiling and clever use of vehicle parts for decor, the atmosphere is unlike any other. The real star of the show, however, is the food. I ordered the Bombay sandwich, the chef's special Maggi, and the noodles, and each dish was bursting with flavor and made to perfection. The menu offers a delightful mix of hearty Italian and Chinese dishes, local favorites, and creative street-food-inspired options. The presentation was beautiful, and the taste was even better—true comfort food that warms the soul. Beyond the amazing food and cool decor, the cafe's location itself is a treat, offering stunning views of the surrounding natural beauty. The staff is attentive and the service is terrific, making you feel relaxed and welcomed. It's the perfect spot to unwind after a visit to the nearby Elephant Falls or to simply enjoy a cozy evening with friends. ML 05 Cafe is more than just a place to eat; it’s a destination that captures the heart with its serene vibe and delicious offerings.
Harsh B — Google review
This food joint located at the outskirts of Shillong has a unique vibe and ambience. You’ll love it if you’re into travelling and especially into riding. They actually have a Royal Enfield hung right inside the café. The overall set up is about travel, number plates and North East. Food here is good but not so great to be honest. They do have various options to choose from, but the taste for most of the items are okayish. The portion sizes in English breakfast platter are ridiculously small and mostly it’ll not be sufficient if you’re a foodie. The sitting arrangements are cozy and provides you the privacy you want. The washroom is clean and decent in size. The staffs here don’t have a heartwarming polite behaviour but it suffices your needs. The road leading to this establishment might be little confusing due to the ongoing highway work. Just for the record, the entry to this café is directly from the highway through a pine forest. It’s not as shown in Google Maps (through Krishi Vigyan Kendra). Please be very careful on this aspect otherwise you’ve to walk a LOT. Overall, a decent food joint to spend some good cozy times with your family, friends or partner.

Concept of Cafe's interior is unique and good showing various parts of a car. Food is okay. But service needs refining and attitude of the staff is not conducive.

Great food and a lovely location. Only downside, had to wait around 40 minutes for the food, which felt a bit too long.

ML 05 has an amazing location with stunning views that make it worth a visit. They have a good selection of coffee, even though the menu doesn’t list the flavors — you can always ask! I tried the hazelnut coffee, and it was really nice. Their bakery items are also worth a mention; I enjoyed the apple pie. When it comes to food, my experience was mixed. The fried rice with chicken wasn’t great (the chicken seemed undercooked or just not right), but their signature Biker’s English Breakfast was excellent when I tried it on my first visit. It’s a lovely place to relax and enjoy the view, but not the best spot if you’re planning to work remotely, as the Wi-Fi speed isn’t very reliable. Overall, a scenic cafe with good coffee and some standout dishes, especially if you’re here to soak in the atmosphere.

Laitlum Canyon, located atop the Khasi hills in Meghalaya, offers breathtaking panoramic views of lush green hills, deep valleys, and beautiful cloud-covered landscapes. The area is often compared to the Scottish highlands due to its resemblance. To reach the canyon, visitors can enjoy a scenic drive through winding roads surrounded by verdant landscapes.
One of the best place to visit. Such a beautiful view of the valleys and clouds. Soft breezes with cold weather throughout the months and it just makes you feel the peace. Great place to sit and chill with friends and family. You must visit if you are planning for a vacation in Meghalaya.

I recently visited Laitlum Canyon, and it was truly one of the most wonderful experiences of my trip to Meghalaya. If you want to feel close to nature, this is the perfect place to visit. Located around 70 km from Shillong, the drive itself is scenic, passing through beautiful hills and local villages. Once you reach, the view is absolutely breathtaking — vast green valleys, steep cliffs, and clouds floating right beside you. It genuinely feels like standing in the middle of the sky! You can easily spend the entire day here, just soaking in the peace and natural beauty. Many visitors bring their own food, and you can even cook or have a picnic while enjoying the cool breeze and stunning views. There are also a few small local shops near the parking area where you can buy tea, snacks, and refreshments, which adds to the charm of the place. Parking is available and costs ₹50 if you’re coming by car. The locals who manage the place are friendly and helpful, making the visit even more enjoyable. About 70/75 mins drive from Shillong. We were lucky with the weather, having gotten there early in the morning. Nice cool breeze blowing the mist over , giving us a wonderful view of the canyon / valley below. Grassy Knoll which makes for fantastic pictures. Uniqueness about this place was it combines a lovely view with the grassy meadows - two places in one ! Parking is quite good and pay and use washrooms. Some small shops close by with basic quick eats. Tickets are 20 per person and parking for cars is 50.

Though it is not as marvellous as the Grand Canyon in the USA, this is quite fine, with beautiful blue hills and deep valleys everywhere.

My visit to Laitlum Canyons was an absolutely unforgettable experience! I was completely mesmerized by the view from the moment I arrived. The name "Laitlum" (meaning "end of hills") is so fitting. The valleys are truly awesome; they are vast, sweeping, and stretch out as far as the eye can see, looking like a painting. Seeing the clouds roll through them is magical. I also loved the weather during my visit. It was so pleasant and fresh, which just made the entire experience perfect. Standing there, taking in that incredible scenery with the beautiful weather, was a moment of pure awe. I can't recommend visiting Laitlum Canyons enough. Shillong Peak

Shillong Peak is a must-visit destination offering a stunning panoramic view of the picturesque countryside, Himalayan peaks, cascading waterfalls, and even the plains of Bangladesh. Situated at an elevation of 1965 meters above sea level, it's accessible via Upper Shillong or Jowai Road and is often shrouded in mist and fog. Trekking is highly recommended to fully experience this tourist attraction.
I recently visited Shillong Peak during my trip from Kolkata, and it was truly one of the most breathtaking experiences I’ve had in Meghalaya. Located about 10 km from the main city, this is the highest point in Shillong, offering a panoramic view of the entire city, lush green hills, and the distant plains of Bangladesh. The journey from Kolkata was smooth — I took a flight to Guwahati and then a scenic cab ride through the winding hills to Shillong. The drive itself was mesmerizing, with pine-covered slopes and cool mountain air welcoming us. At Shillong Peak, the weather was pleasantly chilly, and the view from the top was absolutely stunning. On a clear day, you can even see the clouds floating below you, making it feel like standing above the sky. There’s also an Indian Air Force radar station near the peak, so photography is restricted in some areas, but the natural beauty more than makes up for it. There are small stalls selling hot tea, momos, and souvenirs near the viewpoint — a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the misty surroundings. Tips: Visit early in the morning or just before sunset for the best views, and carry a light jacket as it can get windy. Overall, Shillong Peak is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling from Kolkata to Meghalaya. It’s peaceful, picturesque, and offers a glimpse of nature’s untouched charm.

Visited on a misty and rainy afternoon so missed out on the Shillong view but the experience was nice with some great pictures around and the wooded area as well . This is situated inside an Air Force cantonment area which means restricted access for vehicles. Only the regular taxis in that area are allowed to enter so you would need to switch cabs and pay 200 INr for a return trip ( 5 min drive ). The drive inside is nice and you get to see the cantonment area and school and all the facilities for the residents. No pictures till this view point , photo id are mandatory .

Breathtaking views of the city of Shillong from the top. Before going there I'd suggest keeping in mind that this place is within defence jurisdiction so every person must carry one valid photo ID. Which they need to produce at the ticket counter. Personal vehicle are not permitted to enter the area so a vehicle has to be booked from the ticket counter itself which will take you to the peak.

The peak is covered with pine trees and mist, giving a serene vibe. 6. It’s best visited in the morning or evening for clear skies and stunning photos. 7. Entry requires a quick security check due to the defense area. 8. The drive up is scenic, with winding roads and fresh mountain air. 9. The spot is peaceful, perfect for couples, families, and nature lovers. 10. Truly a must-visit for anyone coming to Shillong to witness its beauty from above

Shillong Peak offers the most breathtaking panoramic view of the entire town—an absolute paradise for photography lovers. The crisp mountain breeze and serene ambience can enchant anyone, making it more than just a viewpoint—it’s an experience. Reaching here is unique: the peak lies inside an Air Force base, so private or public vehicles aren’t allowed. From the base gate, the ticket counter is about 10–15 minutes away, where you’ll get both tickets and a permitted vehicle to take you through the base. Carry a valid ID for verification at the main gate. The area is immaculately maintained by the military, with a few souvenir shops (prices slightly high). For its scenic charm and peaceful vibes, Shillong Peak is a must-visit gem of Meghalaya.

Beautiful view of the city. You need to go through the air force station Shillong to reach there. Need to buy tickets and cabs of local unions are only allowed to go inside, unless you have a permission from the Air Force or GOi.

Genuine review: Heavy Traffic on weekdays as it on the road of cherapunji all school, college and office going vehicle will jam the road. Personal vehicle needs to be parked appx 2.0 km away from the peak. There you have to collect tickets of Rs 50 each as entry fees and Rs 200 for taxi ( as the peak is in Airforce campus) 3 persons can seat in a taxi. Every individual must carry government issues valid ID proof. Airforce jawan will check the ID proof and allow you the enter. Peak is worth watching.

Shillong Peak is at an altitude of 1,965 meters and just 10 km from the city center. As the highest point in Shillong, it offers an unparalleled panoramic view of the city and its surrounding lush greenery. The sight of agricultural fields dotting the landscape and the glittering city lights at night are simply mesmerizing. It can be reached via designated vehicles after passing through the Indian Air Force check post, where valid ID proof is mandatory. The entry fee is reasonable, and the peak remains closed on Wednesdays.

Rhino Heritage Museum

Museum
Rhino Heritage Museum, located in Shillong, Meghalaya, is a humble yet renowned war museum that showcases the rich military history and cultural heritage of the region. Originally built to honor the brave soldiers of the Assam Regiment, it houses a collection of military and cultural relics, including uniforms, medals, and weapons from past wars. The museum also holds historical significance as it was once used as a prison for Japanese prisoners of war during World War II.
If you are a history buff or a patriot, you MUST visit this place. The place is maintained very well by the army with a guide stationed there. They have good replicas of the weapons (incl guns) used in 1971 war and 1999 war. The pictures and details of the lieutenants and commanders and generals given are worth visiting.
Kedar T — Google review
The Rhino Heritage Museum in Shillong was a pleasant surprise for me, and I’d rate it 5/5. It may not be very large, but it carries a lot of character and history. The exhibits give a strong sense of the region’s past, including its military connections, and I found it engaging without feeling overwhelming. The building itself has a certain old-world charm, and being inside the cantonment area makes the visit feel a little special. While the collection isn’t massive, it’s thoughtfully put together, and the stories behind the displays left an impression on me. For anyone interested in culture and history, it’s definitely worth a stop. Short, simple, but memorable—I really enjoyed the visit.

I recently visited this small but fascinating museum in Shillong, and it was definitely worth my time! 🕊️ The main focus of the museum is a tank, which was a great surprise. 🚀 What's more, the museum also pays tribute to the 1971 war with some amazing memorial images and classic weapons on display. 💥 One of the highlights of the museum for me was the cool silver rhino statue. 🦏 It's a great spot for photos, and it adds a touch of uniqueness to the museum. Overall, I'd say this museum is a great place to learn about history and see some interesting exhibits. *Duration:* I'd recommend allocating about 30 minutes for your visit. ⏰ It's the perfect amount of time to take in all the exhibits and get a feel for the museum. *Overall:* If you're in Shillong and looking for a quick, interesting stop, this museum is definitely worth checking out! 👍

Nestled along Ward's Lake in Shillong, the Botanical Garden is a small yet captivating attraction for nature enthusiasts. This garden boasts a diverse collection of native trees, plants, and rare orchids, making it a must-visit spot for those interested in flora. Man made lake in the middle of Shillong. 30rs entry fees and parking beside the road available. Nice and peaceful with clean water and a variety of different plants. Lots of flowers and a few animals like ducks as well. There's a coffee shop inside as well with a beautiful view. Is in essence a small park within the city and you can spend about 30 minutes here. Nothing of any historic value here just sight seeing. Don't forget to like the review if you found it helpful

Stadium
Nestled just 1.4 km from the heart of Shillong, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, also known as Polo Ground, is a stunning venue for sports enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. This football stadium boasts an artificial turf field surrounded by breathtaking mountains and lush greenery, creating a picturesque backdrop for any event. As the home ground of the Shillong Lajong Football Club, it offers decent seating arrangements and serves as a hub for various outdoor activities.
I recently visited Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Polo Ground, Meghalaya, to watch an exciting football match between NEUFC and Bengaluru, and the experience was absolutely amazing! The energy in the stadium was electrifying, with passionate fans cheering for their teams, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. The stadium itself is well-maintained, offering a great view of the pitch from almost every seat. The crowd management was smooth, and the security arrangements were well-organized. The vendors around the stadium had a good selection of snacks and refreshments, making the experience even more enjoyable. The lush greenery surrounding the Polo Ground adds to the charm, making it one of the most beautiful football venues in India. Watching a match here is not just about football; it’s about experiencing the pure love for the sport in the heart of Meghalaya. If you’re a football fan, this stadium is a must-visit for its incredible vibe, enthusiastic supporters, and fantastic match-day experience. Can’t wait to be back for another thrilling game! ⚽🔥

Spread Eagle Falls

Spread Eagle Falls, also known as Sati Falls, is a serene and secluded natural waterfall near Shillong. Its name comes from its resemblance to an eagle with its wings spread wide. The falls are about 6 kilometers from the main city and are a popular tourist destination in the area. The tranquil ambiance and the sound of water cascading down the rocks make it an ideal retreat site. The best time to visit is during monsoon when the waterfall is at its most spectacular.
This place not very accessible or well maintained. It is as natural as nature gets, but only if you are okay with the pollution in the stream. I couldn't reach the waterfall, neither attempted to because of the polluted end of the stream where I started. But the catch here is that, if you follow the trek uphill like I did, you will enjoy a very pleasing view of the pine trees.Location: East Khasi Hills District, Shillong Located within the Shillong Cantonment, on the outskirts of the city, lies a sparkling waterfall which looks like an eagle with wings spread. Hence the name Spread Eagle Falls. The falls is locally known as Umkaliar or the falls into which Ka Liar slipped. A soothing setting amidst the calmness of nature - a treat to the eyes.No any road is found for the wonderful place communicating is very bad for the place visitors waste time for searching the place no security and name place is availabe for the wonderful place for which visitors avoid this place8 KM distance from Shillong Town, opposite eastern air command HQ; best to visit in the month May,June,July,August,September,& October. It's pleasant environment best for family picnic.Local people here are very respectable and very welcome to all who visit here. It's also called the sweet falls.. its kinda not so famous like other places in Shillong but the view is worth it. Especially if u go early in the morning wid no one around.A must visit for any tourist travelling in the north eastern states of India. It's in Meghalaya, and what a better way to start/end your journey other than taking a picture with the beautiful waterfall in the background.A place where you can fell the majestic nature of North Eastern India. It is a beutiful and tall water fall, a place to go with your friends and family. But elder persons will face problem for going up and down by narrow stairs to see best part of the water fall. Spring Eagle Falls used to be nestled in pristine wilderness, offers a captivating sight with its thundering cascade, drawing visitors into its enchanting realm. Surrounded by lush greenery, the falls gracefully plummet into a crystal-clear pool below. Sad to say, it has been getting overpopulated with tourists and becoming very unhygienic due to lack of management. Hope to see improvements ahead and proper care to this beautiful place.

Flare Restaurant offers a lovely decor and an atmosphere of modern elegance, making it perfect for taking Instagram-worthy photos with friends. The food is excellent, with options like Thai curry, chicken stroganoff, spaghetti with meatballs, butter chicken with naan, and delicious Chinese dishes like pork dry fry and fried rice. The service is top-notch, with very attentive staff ensuring a delightful dining experience.
Lovely place, good service, great food. Advantage: Had the stroganoff, the creamy texture of the sauce was balanced out by the rice in the dish. Disadvantage: Most of the items we wanted were not available as there wasn't a particular chef available, but we made do with what they had and it was overall Good.

Had some delicious dishes for dinner. The ambience is nice and cozy. Service is nice. Due to heavy rush for independence day, we had to wait for a little bit, but then also Ms. Anisha came twice to apologize us for being late. It was a good experience there. Definitely a good restaurant to try not only for the service but also for the delicious food.

Overall, this restaurant delivers excellent food and a perfect setting, but the dining experience was unfortunately hindered by poor service. The ambiance was excellent, and the food quality was exceptional across the board. A specific highlight was the roasted pumpkin soup, which was truly delicious (10/10). However, the table service was disappointing. Even during a non-peak time, the wait staff failed to provide consistent and attentive service to all guests. This inconsistency in service did not meet expectations given the high standard of the cuisine and atmosphere. We highly recommend the food, and hope that addressing the staff's attentiveness will bring the service quality up to par with the rest of the experience.

I am giving 1 star because of the service. I came to this restaurant after seeing the overall ratings. The food is good enough. The mood killer is the service. The staff took more than 1 hour just to service Shillong chow and pork chow. By the time the food came, my appetite was already gone by repeatedly asking the updates. The fresh juice that they mentioned in the menu is basically packaged juice like Tropicana. DO NOT expect fresh cut juice. And it took them 30 mins to even provide the so-called fresh juice. I kept on asking the waitress, she kept on saying that the order is almost ready and will take 5 mins. Their 5 mins went on till another 30 mins. The restaurant was not even full and for only a few customers they are struggling to provide the order on time. If the food is going to take time, the staff should give the customers a heads up on how long the order will take. I do not recommend going to this place if you have other plans or no time to waste.
Weird F — Google review
This place has ratings which are off the chart. The ambience inspires no confidence. We went for dinner. These folks say that they have a lot of orders and may not be able to serve us in time. This was despite booking table well in advance. Not sure how on earth they got 4.8 rating. We obviously came back without eating and went to another restaurant. EDITED post restaurant comment: We had a 8 pm reservation and had changed it to 830 pm on EazyDiner itself. We arrived as planned, however I see that booking shows as cancelled today. It is upto you if you want to take the feedback or not. We did not experience a 4.8 level service.

Carin R — Google review
Disappointing hospitality experience at Ginger Restaurant, Hotel Polo Towers, Shillong: While the food at Ginger Restaurant was decent, my overall dining experience yesterday was completely marred by the poor hospitality and lack of basic manners from both the staff and fellow guests. I was dining with my family, seated at a table that had a long sofa on one end. During our meal, a young child, around 5-6 years old, from another table decided to walk across the sofa behind me — stepping over our personal belongings, including wallets and handbags. This happened not once, but twice, despite my obvious discomfort and the fact that I am 7 months pregnant. What was more upsetting was that the child’s mother seemed completely uninterested in correcting her child’s behaviour and was busy eating without a care in the world. The waitress, Gloria, who was serving us at the time, did nothing to address the issue. Instead, she allowed the child to cross again and even guided the child to walk across the sofa again behind me, as though this behaviour was perfectly acceptable. When I pointed out the issue, the waitress had the audacity to ask if we would like to change our seat — which I found absolutely ridiculous. Why should we have to change our seat just because a child was allowed to behave disrespectfully? To make matters worse, the child was running around, spilling food — including rice — on the sofa, where she was stepping, and not a single staff member said anything to stop her. It was as if the staff were more concerned with appeasing the guests with money (likely tourists) than maintaining a basic standard of etiquette and cleanliness. The mother didn’t even acknowledge her child’s disruptive behaviour, and the staff didn’t even attempt to intervene. It’s deeply disappointing to see such a lack of respect for the guests and no commitment to the fundamentals of hospitality in a supposedly 4-star hotel. The Polo Towers staff’s refusal to address this behaviour and the lack of proper intervention not only ruined my dining experience but also left a sour impression about the quality of service. I expected much better, especially from an establishment that presents itself as upscale. I hope Polo Towers reconsiders its approach to customer service, ensuring that the comfort and dignity of all guests — not just those with money — are respected.

It did taste good till I discovered plenty of oil on the plate. Meaning the meal was very very oily. Total was Rs. 1083 for two items. It was very disappointing. Decor & Ambience : Pretty nice, I say. Staff : They were polite and greeted us, as well. Parking was provided by the hotel. Please cook food in limited oil and serve fresh. I gave two stars for Staff and ambience of Ginger. Not recommended. Needs improvement.

LOCATED within hotel Polo Towers at Police bazar. Hotels staff somehow always manages for Parking. AMBIENCE and SERVICE: The decor is quite contemporary. lighting is just sufficient to create the warm mood. Seating is comfortable. The small space congestion yet does not go unnoticed. FOOD: Dining hall serves breakfast in the morning and a-la-cart for other meals. small place congestion is seen at breakfast spread. Food preparations were good though. One would feel it even more good after eating elsewhere in the town. Overall a good and memorable eating experience.

Cafe
Nestled in the heart of Shillong, Cherry Bean Café has quickly become a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike, including Bollywood star Rajkummar Rao. Opened in November 2023 by Rao and his wife Patralekha, this charming café embodies the essence of a "home away from home." With its inviting atmosphere, it’s perfect for unwinding or enjoying quality time with friends.
I recently visited this beautiful cafe and was thoroughly impressed by their delicious vegetarian offerings and aesthetics of the cafe. The minestrone soup was hearty and flavourful , packed with fresh vegetables, making it a perfect comfort dish. The Mexican bowl was vibrant and filling, with well-seasoned ingredients that perfectly balanced flavor and texture. I also tried the corn cheese poppers, which were crispy on the outside and oozing with cheesy goodness inside—a delightful treat! My visit to this cafe was made even better by the great service from our server, Marina. She was friendly, attentive and had excellent recommendations. Overall, Cherry Bean offers an excellent variety of vegetarian dishes that are both satisfying and well-prepared. Great food and great service-highly recommend!

I recently visited Cherrry Bean Cafe in Shillong, and I can confidently say it was one of the best dinners I’ve ever had. Every single dish we ordered was absolutely chef’s kiss – flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. We had a delightful spread including chilli garlic noodles, strawberry mojito, peach iced tea, crispy chicken burger, peri peri chicken pizza, Alfredo chicken pasta, and their incredible herb-crusted chicken with pepperika sauce. Each bite was a burst of flavor and showed how much attention the chef puts into the details. The ambience of the cafe is cozy yet vibrant – warm lighting, tastefully done interiors, and relaxing music in the background made the evening feel just right. Whether you’re going on a casual dinner or a special outing, the vibe here fits perfectly. The staff were incredibly courteous and attentive throughout our visit – very welcoming, quick with service, and always smiling. They made sure we were comfortable and happy with everything we ordered. From food to drinks to service to atmosphere, everything was on point. I’m already looking forward to going back. If you’re in Shillong, don’t miss out on Cherrry Bean Cafe – it’s a total gem!

I came to Meghalaya from Bangladesh to travel the states. To be honest, this place and their staff changed my whole perspective. Food is one thing, but the humility and the behavior of the staff and the manager are so nice, I have never seen such nice people in cafes. The manager was a really nice person, looked over us, wanted to know the feedback of the food and even asked how our trip is going on. He took our photos, and those came out really nice. I mistakenly left my jacket but one of staff noticed, folded my jacket and gave it to me. Regarding food, I took the Basil Pesto Pasta as I'm a vegetarian. It was so good, thanks to the staff that suggested me this one. Wish I could give them six stars on Google maps.

Great Food, but Coffee Could Use a Boost I visited this cafe when I was in Shillong and had a pleasant experience overall. The food was the star of the show—delicious, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared. Their homemade nachos is a must try and mexican platter was really good. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, making it a great spot to relax or catch up with friends. The service was friendly and efficient, adding to the positive vibe. However, the coffee fell a little short of expectations. While it wasn’t bad, it lacked the richness and depth I was hoping for. With so much focus on the food, I believe a bit more attention to the coffee would truly elevate the overall experience. If you’re looking for a place with excellent food and a warm atmosphere, Cherry Bean Café is worth a visit. Here’s hoping they fine-tune their coffee game to match the quality of their cuisine.

Located in the heart of Shillong, Dejavu is a unique restaurant and lounge bar that offers a captivating blend of culinary delights and vibrant entertainment. With its carefully curated decor and dim lighting, the atmosphere provides an inviting escape from urban life. Catering to a dynamic and youthful clientele, it's known for exceptional food, lively music, and an exclusive karaoke station.
The service was excellent. We ordered a variety of dishes, and the waiting time was reasonable—not too long. The food was top-notch, and it was some of the best Chinese cuisine in town, both in quality and quantity. Worth the price. We would definitely go again and recommend it to anyone. We tried their octopus in black pepper sauce, and it was truly something new. The taste was excellent. Second visit, had their Smoked Roasted Chicken. That was a full meal on it's on. For the price, it's really great value! Huge pieces of chicken with a side of veggies, 10/10 would recommend to any meat lovers. Also tried their smoked pork spare ribs, taste profile is similar with the chicken but it had a more fatty taste which had its own unique taste. Tried their Fried Udon as well, quality wise, no one comes close to Dejavu. Yet.

One of the good places to have chinese food in Shillong. Interior- the ambiance and interior is very calm and soft. Staff behaviour -The staff's are friendly and are present quickly when called. Food- although I like to have food out here, this is not my top spot to enjoy a Chinese meal. Parking- parking is available near the road

We had a wonderful experience at Dejavu, Shillong. The food was excellent and the ambience was very inviting and pleasant. Our server, Mrinal Lahkar, did an outstanding job. He was attentive, friendly, and went the extra mile to ensure that our daughter was comfortable and had her food taken care of. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great food and a warm and welcoming atmosphere!

Déjà Vu has always been one of the best Chinese restaurants in Shillong, and we’ve been visiting for years. Yesterday, my loved one and I went there to celebrate our anniversary, hoping to relive the same wonderful dining experience we’ve always had. We ordered our usual dishes — the ones we’ve loved for so long — but sadly, this time we were quite disappointed. The food didn’t taste the same as before; it lacked the familiar flavor and quality we’ve always enjoyed. It felt like something had changed, perhaps a new chef in the kitchen, because the taste was completely different from what Déjà Vu is known for. However, I must appreciate the service. Our waiter Mrinal Lahkar was extremely polite, attentive, and made us feel very well taken care of. The ambience, as always, was lovely — especially cozy for the winter season. Overall, it was a mixed experience for us this time. Déjà Vu has always been a favorite, and maybe this was just an off day. I still hope to return and find the same delicious flavors we’ve loved for years.

The Don Bosco Museum, also known as the Don Bosco Center for Indigenous Cultures, is a renowned museum located in Shillong. Opened in 2003, it offers insights into the history and culture of northeastern states such as Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. The museum's collection includes tools, clothing and artifacts showcasing the lifestyle of indigenous tribal societies in North East India.
Must visit the Museum for learning and knowledge about culture, heritage of North-East India. There also many things to learn about Science & Technology, History, Geography etc etc. Students must visit this place to gain more knowledge. A must place to visit in Shillong.

Don Bosco museum offers many displays. It's multi floor building. It's a lot of knowledge and great collection of North East heritage. Most recommended place to visit in shillong. Entry fee to museum 100 /- for adults, 50/- for children upto 5th STD. Camera fee 100. There are 7 floors and last floor has sky walk. Amazing experience.
Rakshitha S — Google review
My wife and I visited the museum in Oct 2025. At first we were really concerned how we would be able to climb th 7 storeys but soon after entering a staff member kindly directed us to a lift that took us to the top sky walk and we could enjoy all floors (a MUST visit) strolling down. A men's or Ladies toilet on every single floor makes it Senior friendly. The collection is a comprehensive and superb one. We came back knowing a lot about all 7 North East (sister) States! Highly recommend a visit.
Srinivasan J — Google review
This is a must visit in Shillong with a ticket cost of just 20 rupees per head, I highly recommend to explore this place in order to understand the cultures and heritage of all the North Eastern States We went there with minimal knowledge and we got to experience most of the cultures. Also would recommend taking an option to click pictures. It’ll help you in making memories We took many pictures and had really fun at the view point as well. Spare at-least 2-3 hrs It’s air conditioned and well maintained, The staff is friendly too and there’s a store with lot of options to buy from.
Jaswanth D — Google review
It's a well maintained museum and the skywalk gives a vast panoramic view of the Shillong town. It's a must visit if you're in Shillong. The ticket is cheap with extra charges for mobiles and cameras. The museum beautifully showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Seven Sister states and one brother Sikkim. Each floor is dedicated to different aspects of tribal life, their belongings and how they manage their livelihood. One can understand the difference between the cultures of the seven states in a very lucid way.

The name don't represent the place , it's more of a cultural And Heritage Museum. Build with multistory 7 floor active museum with about 20 chambers. Contents include from Stone age area to modern journey. A video visual graphic presentation should have been added benefit One need minimum 1 and half hour to have a brief look, and more for detailed understanding Photography from mobile is also chargeable
Rakesh A — Google review
It beautifully showcases the rich culture and traditions of North-East India across 7 well-organized floors. The exhibits are informative, and the rooftop skywalk offers a great view of the city. Clean, well-maintained, and perfect for anyone curious about tribal heritage.

The Wankhar Entomological Museum is a private museum in Shillong, India that houses a wide variety of mounted insects. It is renowned for its collection of butterflies and other insects, which are brightly colored and interesting to see. The museum is located on Riatsamthiah Jaiaw and is accessible from the main Jaiaw Road. It is one of the most popular museums in Shillong for visitors who are interested in insects and kids alike.
A great place for general public and entegologists alike. Although small, has a good collection. This privately owned museum is maintained by Wankhar descendants. Great effort by the family..kudos to them. Not to miss spot in Shillong.

This is a privately owned museum maintained by Mr Wankhars descendant at the basement of their home Entry fees 50rs/- Video camera and photography has extra charges It's an amazing collection of species includes butterflies, moths, beetles, centipedes etc which all are hand collected and stored since ages now The museum was established in 1973 This is located around 1.5 km from the police bazaar

A private collection of insects and butterflies. Ok to visit if you are nearby and are curious. Entry is 50 per head and every photo taken is chargeable Rs 10. The owner will check your photo album to see how many photos you have taken. This is not the way to publicise your museum and i disliked this practice. It should have been a single photography fee. The collection is not so unique or amazing which demands fee for every photo taken Overall an okay experience.

There are many specimens of butterflies and insects . This museum is in the basement of one house . We had to ring the bell and there was no response, luckily one girl from neighbour hood came and opened the door and called the lady owner of the house who was not very proactive, she checked our phones collected fees without any receipt of payment and said Rs 10 for one shot . She was not very pleasant ,we were asked to put of lights from shabby basement. Though the collection was good I wish the lady was more proactive and pleasant They could have the door open and keep one receptionist and made museum in more professional way . Just requires 20 min to go though museums.

Shopping mall
When exploring the vibrant city of Shillong in Meghalaya, a trip to OB Shopping Mall is an absolute must for any shopping enthusiast. Nestled in the bustling Police Bazaar area, this towering mall serves as a haven for both food lovers and fashion aficionados alike. With its impressive array of outlets, visitors can indulge in everything from trendy clothing and winter wear at great prices to essential daily items and electronics.
A small shopping complex that houses a good number of stores. On the ground floor you find a book shop and a liquor shop. In the higher floors you have the Adidas showroom and Grove Eatery. In front of this mall is a parking for two wheelers which is mostly overcrowded at all times. The inside of the mall is clean but the entry is confusing due to many hawkers who sell their wares on the roadside

Everything is available here, literally the most crowded shopping mall I've seen. So much crowd everyday. Although you can shop outside the mall because there are more options available outside. And the products are really cheap, I'm not sure about the quality. One of the most popular places in shillong. Go here if you need anything related to shopping!

During my recent visit to Grove Eatery, I was truly captivated by the diverse menu that seamlessly blends traditional Japanese dishes with modern culinary creations. The food was nothing short of delightful; I savored the Chicken Fried Rice and Aglio Olio Spaghetti, both bursting with flavor. The atmosphere exuded a relaxed vibe, complemented by friendly and attentive service that made me feel right at home.
Cosy resturant tucked among busy lane. Beautiful ambience, very friendly waiters. Grilled salad and stir fried chicken were excellent. They offer a decent collection of alcohol including a couple of wines.

I made the mistake of ordering North Indian food here, and it was a disaster. The rotis were thick, raw, and completely undercooked. When I pointed it out to the staff, they were not only rude but also refused to cook them properly. The overall experience was disappointing—poor food quality and unprofessional service. Attaching photos of the rotis so you can see for yourself. Save your money and eat somewhere else!
Prajwal K — Google review
I visited this place for the first time with a friend and ordered some drinks and ramen. I was surprised to find that the 'Grove's Special Ramen' wasn't ramen at all - it was just a bowl of white noodles (locally we call it chow) with a few pieces of fried prawns, one sliced egg and a fried prawn flavoured papad (papad in a soup??!! cook be like "KUCH BHI KAREGA PRAWN FLAVOUR AAANE MANGTA APUN). To top it off the ramen soup was mild, 😭 please tell the cook that it is served hot and spicy. While the fries and cocktails were good, the experience was overall disappointing. The serving staff seemed to be staring, which added to the discomfort. It is a waste of money. I would highly recommend the cook to discuss their salary with their manager. 🥲
Samita — Google review
Do not mistake me, the atmosphere and service here are top-tier and I loved the waiters. I had high expectations when I entered the place and the food presentation did not disappoint. Unfortunately, the actual food was absolutely disgusting and inedible. We started our course by ordering some sweet drinks but upon the first sip made me realised that the amount of sugar used in it would even leave a non-diabetic person in the ICU. When the main course came, the meal was terribly oily and bland; by the way that was my honest reaction towards the signature dish of the restaurant that I ordered which was apparently the ramen. The salmon in the sushi, aside from being as thin as paper, was also not fresh. I don't even want to mention the sauce, it was saltier than the ocean. I've never eaten a papad so nasty that it embodied a foul smell as if it had been fried in some rancid fish oil. The first bite made me want to vomit and leave the place immediately. For those who do not want to waste their money, I highly recommend to not visit this place expecting for some expensive and good food especially anything in the category of East Asian Cuisine and seafoods. Do not be deceived by the looks of it all. It was all simply intolerable; this was equivalent to torture food. The gap between the price and the quality of the food is immeasurable; I would not regret paying more if at least the food was worth the price because, as a matter of fact, it isn't. Moreover, I would also respectfully suggest the restaurant to make decent improvements by either replacing the chef with a better one or removing unnecessary options from the menu that is beyond the cook's expertise. In your meal preparations, please don't be too generous in your cheap ingredients like sugar and salt. I say this with sadness, I'm not sorry for my brutal honesty because at the end of the day a good restaurant is mainly judged by the quality of it's food which to my experience is definitely not here. You deserve a star for the food quality only because, thankfully, I didn't die eating it. Replace the O with an A in the word 'Grove' and you'll be more accurate with your title.
David W — Google review
The Dirtiest and Filthiest Restaurant Toilet in Shillong! I have never seen such a poorly maintained place that dares to call itself a restaurant. The toilet alone is enough to drive away any guest absolutely unhygienic, no one to clean it, and a total disgrace. The food? Below average. Honestly, the roadside hawker serving Haka Noodles is ten times better and far more satisfying. There was no one to welcome guests, no hospitality, no sense of service. It was difficult to even understand whether this place is a restaurant, a bar, or just a neglected café. This was my first and definitely the last visit. The owner seriously needs to wake up and revamp every single corner of this establishment, cleanliness, service, food quality, and basic standards. Until then, it doesn’t deserve to be listed among Shillong’s restaurants, let alone in the “elite” category.

I visited this place after a long time, and I used to absolutely love the dosas. However, things have changed. I tried the Cheese Masala Dosa and the Butter Masala Dosa. The dosa itself was crispy yet soft, which I enjoyed, but the filling was a letdown. It was surprisingly bland, and I had expected a bit of spice, not just raw green chilies. That was a bit disappointing. The sambhar was good but the chutney was so bad, they served peanut chutney instead of the coconut chutney which was really disappointing. The tomato chutney was also missing. I also tried the Paneer Kulcha with Chole, which looked appealing but didn't quite deliver on taste. The kulcha was decent, but the chole lacked flavour. On a positive note, the special tea was good, although a bit too sweet. I suggest offering it without sugar and providing sugar packets instead. The atmosphere was good, and the service was exceptional

Have been visiting regal since I was a child and today I visited again with my mother we ordered masala dosa, once chicken fried rice and drums of heaven however today there were less people so the staff were little attendant but other days even if we call them they don't seem to bother and just look around for other staffs and my main concern is that i am very disappointed by today's food that was served firstly the fried rice was smelling and stale and it did not taste fresh and was just half warm and the most disgusting part was the drumstick which is drums of heaven it was overly coated with all the batter and i found the skin and the *furs of chicken on it 🤮 i highly don't recommend to eat this and even the dosa didn't tasted good today it was tasting sour and the masala was so blunt felt like we were eating dosa with just boiled potato without salt and any flavour.. I paid the full bill despite my concern I didn't want other people eating to loose their appetite I feel like they are not serving fresh food and also if they are maintaining hygiene why did i found all fur in the chicken 🤢 next time I will hardly recommend anyone to visit there again.. please look into your hygiene and freshness of food i could have raised concern on the moment itself but I didn't want to do this in front of the customers..take my words I didn't even felt like clicking the picture of that furs i lost the appetite the moment I saw that didn't expected this..

Umiam Lake, also known as Badapani by locals, is a stunning man-made water body located 16 km from Shillong. Surrounded by lush greenery, the lake offers various recreational activities such as boating and picnics. Visitors can enjoy the crystal-clear blue waters and vibrant flowers while taking advantage of different boating facilities available. Additionally, there is a nearby resort for those looking to extend their visit or enjoy a meal.
The view is great. Must visit place in shillong. The lake is awesome and provides fresh air. There is a bit of walking to reach the lake but it's a great photoshoot place. Boating will be available when the weather is good. There are also rafting races happening in the lake as well.

Your entry to Meghalaya when you drive into Shillong from Guwahati. It is a sports complex which has been developer around a man made lake fed by rainwater. Plenty of parking, great views, decent washrooms and the speed boat experience was excellent and felt safe as well. Charging an entry fee seems excessive if a person is boating then perhaps it could be refunded( because it is quite high 50 pp, while boating is 200). Lovely clean air and clear skies make a very good experience.

Water is pretty. Boating was quite expensive. The boat guy did not behaved well tho, we asked him to slow down a bit cuz the boat was literally jumping and we couldn’t balance well. He did not respond , it was like he was pretty annoyed from the start. He did not slow down and when we asked him to slow down the second time he replied ‘its like this only’. It was only one round for 8min after paying 600 for 3 people. There is no good eatery inside. I’d give my experience 7.5/10.

A Tranquil Jewel Just Outside Shillong Umiam Lake is, without doubt, one of the crown jewels of Meghalaya. Just a short drive from Shillong’s hustle - around 15 km from Police Bazar - this place opens up into a vast, glimmering expanse of water cradled by rolling green hills. It’s the kind of place that makes you pause, breathe, and forget time altogether. The surroundings are peaceful and beautifully kept - perfect for an afternoon stroll or simply sitting by the shore with a flask of tea. Boating here is a real treat - hop onto a shared speedboat or take a kayak out if you fancy a bit more quiet. Either way, the views are sublime, especially as the sun starts to dip and the sky reflects off the lake’s calm surface. Before reaching the lake entrance, there’s a lovely little viewpoint worth stopping for. You’ll find some fast food stalls there too - nothing fancy, but great for a quick bite with a view. Whether you’re into photography, nature, or just a bit of soul-soothing stillness, Umiam Lake is a must. A gentle reminder of how spectacular simplicity can be.

Waterfalls
Beadon Bishop View Point is a stunning location in Shillong, Meghalaya, featuring the impressive Bishop and Beadon Falls. The Bishop Waterfalls, with a height of 135 meters, are formed by the Umshyrphi River and offer a mesmerizing sight as the water cascades down like a white ribbon. These twin waterfalls are perfect for nature lovers and trekkers, providing a serene atmosphere surrounded by lush greenery.
I recently visited Beadon Bishop Falls, and I was blown away by the natural beauty of this place! 🌳 The view is simply amazing, and the falls themselves are breathtaking. 💧 One thing to note is that the area is still a bit underdeveloped, but I think this just adds to its charm. 🌟 There's so much potential for growth and development as a tourist circuit, and I can already imagine the possibilities. 🤩 What really made my experience special was the nearby church chapel, where I got to hear some beautiful singing. ✝️ The spiritual touch added a whole new layer to my visit, and I felt a deep sense of peace and tranquility. 🙏 Overall Experience:I'd highly recommend Beadon Bishop Falls to anyone looking for a unique and off-the-beaten-path experience. Cool experience, amazing views, and a spiritual vibe - what's not to love? 😊 don't forget your camera and binoculars to capture the stunning views! 📸"

The simple and free view point is far away from the falls as location is on the other side of the valley. You get distant view of both the falls from here and not sure if there's any other better view point.

Good place. One has to Travel in the guwahati highway and take a deviation from the petrol bunk. When we asked a cab driver to drop us there he warned us that we may face some trouble by the local boys and asked to avoid that place. Still we (group of 3, including female friend) visited this is place on our own and found a very good view of the falls. Later a group of wicked boys of age group 12-15 arrived there, and started staring at us weirdly, puffing cigarettes (could be weed as well) simultaneously. Later we remembered the warning given by the cab driver and took extra caution about are belongings. Without giving any chance for a conversation we left that place. Visit this place in normal day time with the sufficiently big group and take extra care about your valuables.

You can see in amidst a city a waterfall, quiet place to hang round if you want lonely space, not much of a view.

Beadon and Bishop falls are the name of two waterfalls located on the outskirts of shillong at Mawlai Nongkwar BL 3. These two water falls flows from different sources and meet at this place. Its an awesome sight with a breathtaking scenery. However, the locals call it.'sonapani'. 'sona' which means Gold in Hindi and 'pani' means water. But these waterfalls has no sorts of connection with Gold. Its called Sona because a lady named Sona jumped or suicide from this place... So this is how the name Sona-pani got stuck.

Got a nice view, specially the clouds. But you'll will not be able to view the falls properly but you should visit it once.

Kaizun Bed & Breakfast

Bed & breakfast
The Kaizun Bed & Breakfast in Lachaumiere is a great place to stay if you're looking for quality accommodation without having to break the bank. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. There's a cosy atmosphere at Kaizun, which makes it perfect for relaxing after a busy day exploring Shillong.
Centrally located, this hotel's rooms have an old-world charm. Spacious, well-maintained. Staff could have been more proactive. If you are driving your own car to the hotel (I did), be careful of the very steep road in front of the hotel. Not enough space for parking in the hotel compound. I would recommend a short stay at this hotel.

I just loved my stay here Staff were very civilised and professional They tended to our every need with care, be it warm water or extra bed. The rooms were neat and clean Beds were comfy Food served was good I loved the location too It gave us a chance to walk all the way to the main road and enjoy the main market.

The only thing good about this property is it’s location. Reception is on 2nd floor and the property does not have staffs to take care of the property. Bed and Mattresses are too uncomfortable. They sink entirely causing uncomfortable sleep and back ache. Not very hygienic. No kitchen Even the Intercom in my room was not working.

I've been to this hotel twice in the last 2 years and my experience was great both times. The staff is polite and professional. The check-in and check-out process was smooth. Food is great too. Police Bazar is about 1-1.5 km away from here. The ambience is serene and fresh, yet somehow, celebratory. I would like to visit this place again.

Very comfortable stay, spacious room, the staff accomodated all our requests, centrally located, close to main post office and Anjali sumo station. High value for money: we spent Rs. ~3,200 for a deluxe room including breakfast.
Francesco B — Google review
The property is located in the heart of the town. Main market is at walking distance (15-20 min comfortable walk). The rooms were neat n clean. Bedsheet and pillows were fresh n clean. Toiletries and fresh towels were provided. Breakfast was usually served around 8 o'clock in the morning, and tasted good. Only one minor issue: you might find an insect/cockroach in the room or bathroom. But that is due to the moisture in the environment, thus acceptable. Overall, it was a good experience. Enjoyed our stay.

The Grand Madina Masjid is a stunning mosque in Shillong and one of the largest in India. It is a marvel of architecture and provides an extremely peaceful environment. Visiting Madina Masjid in Shillong felt like stepping into a haven of peace and serenity. Being there, surrounded by its divine beauty, I felt truly blessed✨ The calmness in the air, the gentle whispers of prayers, and the feeling of being so close to Allah filled my heart beyond words. As a woman, getting the chance to pray inside made it even more special, something I had longed for deeply. One of the most beautiful mosque in the entire North-East, decorated with green glass, illuminates in the sunshine. Very neat and clean with all facilities within. The committee also runs and an Education Institue and a Orphan's Madrasa in it. There is even a restaurant/cafe inside with very low prices. This is a Sunni mosque from what I've noticed, not sure whey some claim it to be a Shia mosque though.
Shaik M — Google review
Nestled in a remarkably peaceful setting, the only Shia Mosque in Shillong stands as a testament to both serene spirituality and architectural grandeur. Beyond its religious significance, this place offers a holistic experience, embracing education, literature, and community engagement. The mosque hosts a school committed to providing high-quality education, shaping young minds with a focus on excellence. Adjacent to this educational institution is a sprawling library, housing an extensive collection of books on Islam. What sets this library apart is its inclusivity, featuring materials in a multitude of languages, thereby becoming a beacon of knowledge accessible to a diverse audience. The architecture extends beyond the prayer halls, with a meticulously designed sitting area that beckons visitors to immerse themselves in the world of literature. The intention behind its layout is evident—a space that not only accommodates reading but encourages it, fostering an atmosphere of reflection and tranquility. Particularly noteworthy are the Islamic classes held in the library on specific days. This community-oriented initiative further establishes the mosque as a center for both spiritual and intellectual growth. It opens its doors not only to the Muslim community but also extends a warm welcome to individuals of all backgrounds, making it a cultural and educational hub for Shillong. In essence, this mosque transcends religious boundaries, emerging as a cultural landmark and educational haven. Its architectural magnificence, coupled with a commitment to knowledge and community, renders it a must-visit destination—even for those outside the Muslim faith.

The Madina Mosque is a mosque situated at Shillong in Meghalaya State of India. It took one and a half years to complete the only glass mosque in India and the largest one in the northeastern region. Madina Masjid, an imposing and resplendent structure of glass dome and glass minarets. Madina mosque is the rare architectural marvel in India as it has an striking and glittering structure of glass. With its 121 feet height and 61 feet width, this surprises one and all for being the only Green mosque after the blue mosque of Istanbul. The four storied structure of the religious place also has an orphanage, a library, and an Islamic theological institute. The mosque and the adjoining Idgah could offer space for 8000 people for an assembly or prayer.  Interestingly, highest number of people, who contributed to the construction of mosque, was Hindus. The Mosque also has a large garden with several plants. Over the years, it has acquired increasing significance in the world as a center for Islamic study and spiritual center.

Hindu temple
Mahadev Khola Dham, an ancient Hindu temple in Shillong, Meghalaya, is a revered pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Shiva. With a history dating back 150 years, it is believed to have been built where the sage Lakhiya Baba meditated. The temple hosts vibrant celebrations during Maha Shivratri and Durga Puja, offering insights into local traditions and faith.
The experience was both spiritual and ethereal. I was told that the tunnel from the temple connects to Kamakhya Mandir in Guwahati. The geological mysteries underlying human connections are profoundly intriguing!!! Spend time besides the river, the cave where the shiv ling is placed and the old tree, peepal I guess. Few observations while visiting - No parking available in the vicinity as it is a defence area,so u may hav to park elsewhere and walk, the area inside like most temples not clean & not maintained(no dustbin) and carry water.

Over a Century and half old shrine. Visited on 02 Feb 2025. It is dedicated to Lord Mahadev (Shiva) and Devi Kamakhya. Apart from these there are temples of Shri Ganesha, Ram and Krishna have been created. You can approach it either by road or cross country from Rhododendron Trek. Sanyaasis from Shri Gorakhnath Matth sect reside there. During day time an armed guard of CRPF is located.

A serene, quiet place that is definitely worth a visit. It's by the riverside. The gurgling of the river, the chirping of the birds, the soft caress of the breeze... a place one would like to sit and enjoy. The Shiv Linga is an ancient one, discovered during excavation. Hence, the name Khola Mahadev. The cave opening inside the temple is said to lead directly to Kamakhya temple in Guwahati. A local shared that a sadhu and another man has attempted that journey.

The Mahadev Khola Dham is an age old temple located in the city of Shillong - Meghalaya. The temple is dedicated to Lord Mahadev and is said to be more than 150 years old. It is situated about 4 Kms from Shillong city and can be reached by taxis, city buses and private cars. The devotees need to walk about 300 meters from the main Gate of the temple as the path is not meant for four wheelers. The temple is situated in the midst of hills in a beautiful, picturesque location. The small stream flowing around the temple adds to its beauty. There are other temples dedicated to Hindu Gods in the premises. Maha Shivaratri is celebrated with great fervour and a large number of devotees visit this temple. The wheelchair is inaccessible due to the steep slope on the way to the temple. There is no specified parking place for the devotees, while entry to the temple is free. Puja items are available in the shops near the temple. Drinkable water is available in the premises of the temple. Overall, a must visit place for all.

Mahadev Khola Dham is an ancient cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located approximately 5 kilometers from the Shillong Bus Stand in Meghalaya. Believed to be around 150 years old, the temple is one of the oldest in the region and holds significant religious importance. According to legend, a sage named Lakhiya Baba chose this cave for meditation. A Subedar-Major from the 8th Gorkha Regiment dreamt of the sage meditating with a trident and a rudraksha necklace. Upon searching, he discovered the sage at the current temple site. During excavation for the temple's construction, a large Shiva Lingam was found, leading to the establishment of the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple complex includes several smaller shrines built by devotees whose wishes were believed to have been fulfilled. An annual three-day fair is held during Maha Shivaratri, attracting over 25,000 devotees seeking blessings.

The restaurant takes pride in its skilled chefs who expertly prepare each dish to perfection, ensuring a tantalizing culinary experience. Great place, great food, nice staff. It's hard to find a large variety in Menu in such remote locations. Nearby place is Police bazaar. Sunset Cafe, situated in Upper Shillong, is a hidden gem offering stunning sunset views from its two-story location facing the west. The cafe provides a perfect setting to enjoy the evening sunset with picturesque vistas of the distant horizon. While the food is well-prepared and delicious, there are some concerns about the service efficiency as orders were frequently forgotten, causing delays. Despite this, visitors appreciate the lovely ambience and friendly staff.
Sunset Cafe in Shillong quickly became a favorite spot during my recent trip. The ambiance is perfect for relaxing and unwinding, making it an ideal place to hang out with friends or enjoy a solo escape. The food menu is diverse and delicious, offering a range of options from comforting noodles and flavorful Thai dishes to authentic Vietnamese coffee and roselle tea. I particularly enjoyed the unique blend of flavors in their cupcakes. I found myself drawn back to the cafe twice during my stay, a testament to its charm and the quality of the food. The friendly service and inviting atmosphere further enhanced the dining experience. If you are a south indian looking for some Dosas, this is your place in Shillong. The dosas are not bad, the chutney is good. The rest rooms are good. The ambience and service is good as well. Do not expect 100% authentic Dosas, but they are pretty good if you are in North India and craving for dosas. Except utappam, all were good. Idlis were good too. Coffee and Tea were great as well. It is in busy part of the town and there is no parking.

We stopped for a quick dinner here and were not disappointed by the hype. The staff was hospitable and the ambience was decent as well. The tomato onion uttapam was good and the sambar and chutneys were good too but probably not the best. It’s a decent South Indian place in the middle of a busy bazar which is value for money. The filter coffee was on the bitter side and needed sugar to be added on the top. Overall a really good place and would go again for other menu options.

Visited Namma Madras Cafe for dinner recently. The idea of getting Tamil/South Indian food in the Northeast is definitely interesting, and it’s nice to see such regional variety. However, the food was just okay — nothing exceptional in terms of taste. Prices felt quite high for the portion and quality offered. The ambience and overall experience were decent, but not standout. Worth a try if you're craving South Indian food, but manage your expectations. It will take minimum 2min to get the entrance of the restaurant as it is full covered by a roadside sale guy

Mawphlang Sacred Grove is a forest that has been preserved by the Khasi community for its historical and religious significance. The dense forest can be explored through guided tours, which last approximately an hour. Visitors are not allowed to remove anything from the forest or damage any trees or plants within it. The forest contains many ancient medicinal trees, some of which are over 500 years old. Additionally, there are various mushrooms and sacrificial sites that have been used for religious rituals throughout many generations.
An absolutely amazing and very unique experience in India. A beautiful forest area which is maintained by the village and the community. The guides charge about 350 for the short 30/40 mins half tour . Explaining about some of the flora as well as some of the rituals and traditions, their presence with you is mandatory and makes the forest walk a wonderful experience . A good hour and bit drive from Shillong , we were fortunate to have wonderful cool and cloudy weather which enhanced the experience . Excellent place and I enjoyed the experience - I hope it continues to be maintained well . The guide helped to learned more about the menhirs / monolith stones which are respected by the tribes. We also learned about the trees which give the Rudraksh and for a nice lesson on it from our guide Ryngkat.

A beautiful forest is like nature’s own masterpiece — a world full of peace, mystery, and life. Sunlight filters gently through the leaves, painting the ground with golden patterns. The air feels fresh and alive, carrying the soft sounds of birds singing and leaves whispering in the breeze. Every tree stands tall and proud, each with a story to tell — of time, growth, and quiet strength. The forest is not just a place of beauty, but also of calm and wonder — a reminder that even in silence, life thrives in the most magical ways. 🌿✨ I am glad that I get a chance to visit. Guide was very nice and helpful.

Serene, clean and quiet. 1 hour drive from Shillong. This is the only one open to tourists out of several other sacred forests through out Meghalaya. A local community group manages the tourist visits. An entry fee (for each person and car extra) with guide fee is charged. The guides are actually local boys who take a group for a half n hour trail. The ground in front of the forest is do clean that it looks like outside India.
Suman S — Google review
This is just outside shillong city, not so far. A sacred place for the local Khasi community. The place is dedicated to their god Labasa...they used to seek permission for hunting through animal sacrifice for Labasa. The walking trail is really beautiful.... someone have to take a guide to enter to the forest area, the guide will describe about the khasi traditions, history and the monoliths situated inside the forest. There are full and half trek options. The place is very serene and quiet. Someone must not take anything outside the forest, whether its leaves or stones or rudraksh or flowers.
Shouvik S — Google review
How to reach - You can hire a taxi or a rented 2 wheeler to reach. We went on Sunday and got mix response from locals regarding shared taxi/sumo. So better don't hope for it. Renting two wheeler is a better option if you are experienced rider. Average renting starts nearly 800 for a scooty. Bargaining is based in your skills. Good view and peaceful, better you take food and have a quality time there. Entry is 30rs per person, 350rs guide (half trek) mandatory, parking for 2 wheeler is 20rs. The half trekking is almost 30-40 mins total in and out. Nothing allowed to take out. Rudraksh can be bought at the counter or better say from the guides help desk. At the end they ask to donate some money voluntarily but if you don't want to be asked to so better don't go to them 😜. Rest the guide will tell you about sacred forest. Nothing exciting but can be visited if you have time.
ABHISHEK S — Google review
The Mawphlang Sacred Forest is a truly unique and spiritual experience in Meghalaya. Spread across 193 acres, it is carefully preserved by the local Khasi community, where nothing – not even a leaf or pebble – can be taken out. Entry is only with a guide (₹350), and their explanations about the forest’s flora, rituals, and traditions make the visit memorable. Highlights include the Rudraksh trees with symbolic meanings, and the monolith stone formations representing family and tribal beliefs. The guides also share fascinating stories about Khasi rituals and their matrilineal culture . Walking through the dense, mossy forest feels magical and peaceful
Rahul M — Google review
An old story behind this sacred forest search in google..this forest is actually maintained by khasi tribes . At the entry point they charged 30 rs entry fees + car parking 50 rs+ guide charges 350 rs ..guide show u rudraksha trees, radodrendron and pine tree and tell the tourist story of this forest. I think the tour guide is not mandatory

Khasi Heritage Village, located near Shillong, is a model of an old traditional Khasi village situated in front of the Sacred Forest. The village offers different kinds of cottages for day trips where visitors can enjoy making their own meals and experience the serene surroundings. The area features wooden swings, a wooden bridge with stunning sunset views, and an indoor badminton court.
Very serene and peaceful, full of greenery. Authority is charging heavily without providing any amenities. It boils down to Rs 500 odd for parking the vehicle for an hour or so. They may think of providing battery operated car for older people( above 60 years) and physically handicapped.
Swapan D — Google review
Khasi Heritage Village is located in the Mawphlang region , in Shillong, in the Meghalaya state of India , opposite the Mawphlang Sacred Forest. It is at a distance of around 25 kilometres from Shillong. The Khasi Heritage Village was developed as a demonstrative model village for the tourists to look at the different types of wooden thatched houses where they originally used to live. This uninhabited village and their traditional houses let us peep into the past lifestyle of the Khasi tribals. The village complex is spread over a large open area covered with lavish green grass. There are few small shops also inside which sell souvenirs, and small things to eat. Here the tourists can look at the Khasi traditional houses, with traditional motifs and symbols. Just opposite of the Khasi Heritage Village lies the Mawphlang Sacred Forest, but it has been observed that most of the tourists visit the Mawphlang Sacred Forest and do not visit the Khasi Heritage Village. Apathy and neglect of the Heritage Village is apparent. For entrance to this place , we have to buy ticket, from a small stall which is built just next to the entry. Plenty of parking space is available and there are also paid toilet facilities , a few metres away. Khasi tribal live activities should be incorporated at the village to make the place more attractive.

Khasi Heritage Village offers an enchanting glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry of the Khasi tribe, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Meghalaya's lush landscapes. The village is beautifully designed, featuring traditional Khasi architecture that reflects the community’s heritage and values. As you explore the village, the mesmerizing views of the rolling hills and verdant valleys are simply stunning. The serene environment invites you to immerse yourself in nature while learning about the unique customs and traditions of the Khasi people. Historically, Khasi Heritage Village serves as an important cultural site, highlighting the tribe's matrilineal society and their deep-rooted connection to the land. The village also hosts various cultural events that showcase traditional music and dance, offering a vibrant experience that celebrates Khasi identity. It’s a fantastic opportunity for visitors to engage with local customs and gain insights into the community’s way of life. In summary, Khasi Heritage Village is a captivating destination that combines mesmerizing views with rich historical references. Whether you're interested in cultural exploration or simply want to enjoy the natural beauty of Meghalaya.

Spread across almost 8 acres, the Khasi Heritage Village has been created to showcase the traditional lifestyle of the Khasi tribes. The village has houses built in the conventional Khasi style with bedrooms, kitchens, storehouses etc. A museum is also kept to display artifacts, tools, and weapons, traditional daily and occasional items that were extensively used by the Khasis. It also has a section for archery with the traditional bows and arrows displayed for visitors. There is a long suspension bridge inside along with an amphitheater that screens documentaries and holds stage shows during the famous Monolith Festival.

The Capt. Williamson Sangma State Museum, also known as the Meghalaya State Museum, is a cultural treasure trove that offers a glimpse into the rich heritage of the Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo tribes in Meghalaya. Established in 1975 and named after Captain Williamson Sangma, this museum houses over 2500 exhibits showcasing the traditional lifestyle, customs, and culture of these vibrant communities.
I love the art and painting section. There is a play area for children as well. The place is accessible for wheelchair users.

Beautiful display of North Eastern culture. A highly fascinating depiction of the history, celebrations, jobs, village life, and traditional clothing. The location is manageable for a quick visit at any time because it is not overly large. There is typically no rush here. There is a strong collection of tribal and local culture here. There is a separate area for each of the following: apparel, art, and musical instruments. Increasing the collection would aid in promoting this institution.
Saumen S — Google review
My first day in Shillong started with a visit to the Museum, and it turned out to be a beautiful experience. There was almost no crowd—just one lady at the entrance giving tickets . Since no one else was around, I explored the entire museum alone, which made it even more peaceful and personal. The place isn't very big, but it's very well-maintained and thoughtfully arranged. You get to see a lot about the local lifestyle—traditional clothing, dressing sense, musical instruments, coins, flowers, and even geographical maps. It’s a wonderful glimpse into the culture and heritage of the region. If you're in Shillong and interested in local history and culture, this museum is definitely worth a visit. It may be small, but it offers a rich and quiet experience.
Subhashree B — Google review
Beautiful exhibit of the culture of the North East! A really captivating portrayal of the history, festivals, occupations, village life and traditional wear. The place is not too big and one can easily visit it for a short while anytime. There usually isn't a rush here.

A nice small museum on Meghalay culture and lifestyle. There is a neat and good collection of tribal and local culture along with different types of instruments here. There is a separate area for art and oil paintingsins. Centrally located in Shillong

There are now 2 museums next to each other. The entry ticket is now Rs 80 for Indians and Rs 300 for foreigners. There's an additional Rs 100 for photography. The museum is very well laid out especially the new museum. Don't miss the immersive video room while there. All in all I think it was money well spent.

Malki Forest is a serene and peaceful place, perfect for trekking and hiking. The tall trees create a wonderful atmosphere, offering a tranquil escape from the city crowds. While there may be some plastic waste left behind by locals, visitors are encouraged to be responsible and not contribute to the issue. With no specific entry point, visitors can freely explore the forest and choose their own path through the lush greenery.
Peaceful place for trekking. Very less crowd. Can walk freely through the woods. Grab some snacks and enjoy your day. Locals are least care about plastic waste management. You will see many plastic wastes. I request please never follow that. Be responsible towars nature

Nestled in the vibrant streets of Shillong, Bade Miyan stands out as one of the few halal dining options available. While they don't possess formal halal certification, they assure patrons that their offerings are indeed halal. The culinary delights here are both delicious and budget-friendly, making it a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. Although the ambiance could use some improvement to elevate the overall experience, the friendly staff more than makes up for it with their warm hospitality.
Had a quick bite of chicken roll following police bazaar shopping Then asked for biryani by the time its finished So had to settle with chicken tandoori tikka half Very fast service infact cheap and best there Had a standing counter and sitting place too Well recommended

The biryani was just okay, but I had a really unpleasant experience with the reshmi kabab – I found hair in it. The lemon served on the side also looked inedible. I'm quite surprised, as this place is usually well-regarded. I'm starting to wonder about their current hygiene standards as it has gone really down. DISAPPOINTED
ANINDYA D — Google review
The roll of this place is famous coz its cheap . But can't ignore the fact that its very very dirty , the tables, walls, plates everything is dirty . If you stand outside and have thn no problem but once you sit inside to have the food then its unacceptable.
Rahman T — Google review
There are a very few halal restaurants in Shillong. Bade Miyan is one of them. They don't have any halal certification but they claim that they're halal. Their food is pretty good and value for money. But they need to work on their environment. If it was nicer, it would have been an amazing experience. The stuffs are really nice and friendly. They've customized a roll for me with paneer (cheese) and chicken. Loved it.
Ziaul H — Google review

Tiny place. But best rolls in town at affordable prices. Must try!!
EatingShillong — Google review
A really hyped place by many, so if one wants to say like that which in terms of many aspects maybe true. Mainly famous for its rolls. I tried their rolls and also their tandoori chicken. I like their rolls I tried both the chicken and egg one. Not at all close to the hype but still good. I liked the tandoori more it's was really good and juicy with the chutney given together making it more tasty. But as a restaurant one should combine all the aspects like cleanliness and comfort in seating arrangements which is really pathetic and poor. Maybe for takeaway it is a good outlet. But if there was more seating arrangements and cleanliness combined then i would have given a higher rating.

Dylan's Café is a must-visit spot in Shillong, Meghalaya, especially for fans of the legendary musician Bob Dylan. The café pays homage to the iconic artist with its themed décor and memorabilia adorning the walls. Whether you're a fan of Bob Dylan or not, the café's inviting ambiance, complete with panoramic views of lush green hills and an eclectic mix of rustic and retro elements, is sure to captivate you.
This place has a fabulous vibe to it. If you're someone who has grown up exposed to the rock & pop culture of the 80's you will especially love this place. The decor scores a 10/10. Menu is interesting and service is good too.

Very cosy cafe with nice dylan’s themed. Both inside and outdoor sitting is quite nice. There is nice view from outside. The indoor theme is just wow with lovely music playing. I went there for the coffee. We ordered basic cappuccino. It was okayish. Not bad, not great. Serving cups could have been better. They gave coffee in a mug. It would have been nice if they served in coffee cups

We went here on our visit to shillong. We were very hungry and are vegetarians so ordered a bunch of veg food. Their shillong noodles is too good. We had already mentioned to make it in its authentic way and they did exactly that. Their hot chocolate with marshmallows was so so comforting in the rainy weather. We also tried their hash brown. It was damn nice, totally worth trying. Their naga chilli cheese toast is worth the hype. Its too good. Their farmhouse pizza however disappointed us. It was not cooked properly. But the staff was really good. They immediately replaced it with nachos which were also really nice. We also got to witness some live music. All in all we had a good time
Divya A — Google review
The ambience is good with outdoor eating as well as indoor seating options. Service was very prompt and staff warm welcoming. However, the food was disappointing and not just one or two items. Good meal: - berry smoothie - mushroom and cheese toastie - Naga chilli toastie Ok meal: - Shillong noodles To be avoided: - cold coffee - cheesy fries - onion rings (absolutely bland, no taste at all) - cheese pulled bread (bread was very soft but no cheese)
Shashwat S — Google review
Very cozy place. Outside sitting place is also available. Well maintained space. Talking about the food, it was so so delicious. Every singly bite was worth every penny. Reasonable price. Will be visiting every time when in Shillong.

The food was absolutely delicious and full of flavor, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The place has a perfect vibe — cozy, clean, and relaxing. It’s a great spot to enjoy a meal and unwind with friends or family. Highly recommended! 🍽️✨

We were a slightly larger bunch, 2 adults & 5 kids & had gone for a lunch kind of meal. We had 1. Mac n cheese 2. Pull apart cheese bread 3. Cheesy fries 4. Strawberry cheese cake 5. Waffles 6. Rose Mary chicken 7. Bob’s burger 8. Sautéed veggies ( not on menu and specially made on-request, by the chef ) Found food to be reasonably decent. Service was with a smile and prompt. We were not too flustered by the staff and were ( thankfully ) left to ourselves. Music in the background was subtle. Apparently they have live band on Fridays. It’s a first floor set up restaurant, lift access is not available ( so no wheel Chairs ), they have an outside and inside seating. The weather was fantastic , for an outside sitting as well. Menu is continental. They may serve some brands of beer as well. Washrooms were clean and tidy.

Dylan’s Café – A Tribute to Art, Music & Flavours in Shillong Visited Dylan’s café on a Thursday, 1st May and was floored by the unique theme and cozy ambience adorned with very thoughtful artworks to celebrate Bob Dylan, creating a trendy and artistic dining experience. The soft music in the background added to the pleasant, laid-back vibe. Located on the first floor, the café offers both indoor and outdoor seating, with separate zones for smoking and non-smoking guests. The service staff was exceptionally warm and welcoming — their friendly demeanour and helpful recommendations added to the charm of the place. Ordered Crunchy chicken burger, Naga Chili pork with Shillong noodles. The food was sumptuous and portions were very good. The chili pork was a standout — tender, flavour-packed, and perfectly spiced. Shillong noodles had a fresh, peppery punch and tender chicken chunks, it was truly the chef’s delight. Adequate parking within the café premises and well-maintained washrooms also enhanced the overall experience. The place was a bit pricey, but felt the quality of the food quality, ambience, and experience made it worth every penny. Would definitely recommend Dylan’s café for a relaxed, romantic casual outing and enjoy the signature dish - Naga Chili pork with Shillong noodles.
