Nature & Parks
Periyar National Park, also known as Periyar Tiger Reserve and Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, is a renowned wildlife sanctuary in South India. Spanning 777 sq km of lush Western Ghats terrain, it features a 26-sq-km artificial lake created in 1895. The park is home to around 2000 elephants, bison, sambar, wild boars, langur monkeys and an estimated 35 to 40 tigers.
Last week my partner and I did both the Thondiyar and Brandipara full-day border hiking treks. Both were amazing but quite different and we couldn’t find much info online about the differences beforehand so hopefully this is helpful. Thondiyar goes through much denser forest, which feels very ancient and the trails are a bit more uneven underfoot and slippery at times but we loved how wild the route felt. Brandipara is much more exposed going through newer forests with clearings and amazing views over the mountains and to Tamil Nadu. The path was clearer and easier to walk. I was quite scared of the leeches but the guides provide leech socks and use tobacco powder to sprinkle on the socks to deter the leeches, and the treks are well worth it regardless! I would recommend wearing long sleeves, trousers, covered trainers or boots and long socks and tucking everything in for peace of mind. Also the food provided for breakfast and lunch was great, you get given 1 litre of water but we bought an extra bottle each which was needed given the heat and distance. For both lunch spots you stop at a building for a proper rest. You get given a nice comfy backpack that you can transfer your stuff into at the start of the day, we did this on the second walk and it was better to avoid getting your own bag really wet if it rains. If you like birds would recommend downloading the free Merlin app and the South India bird pack to help understand which birds are around, although some of our guides also knew a lot of bird species. Our guides were excellent and we felt very safe, on one day they shared more knowledge about wildlife and the other day more about history which were both interesting. We were lucky to see so many birds, an elephant, langurs, giant squirrels and amazing spiders! If you have time would recommend doing both routes as they feel quite different :)

A lush green serene place full of tranquility where one can immerse in magic of nature. The boat ride in the lake and sighting of wild animals and birds roaming freely is icing on the top. From Periyar bus stand taken to jetty and carried out boat ride. One can purchase tickets at jetty itself if done earlier online. Excellent arrangements. One can opt for green walk also. Truly mesmerizing.

The Periyar National Park was very nice and calm & very nearby to my stay. The boat ride was amazing. Our guide on the boat explained everything really well. The environment is very well maintained and preseved by the locals. It is a tourist worthy place. It was a peaceful 1.5 hours on the waters.

My visit to Periyar National Park was an amazing experience. I went bamboo rafting, took a boat safari. Rafting program includes 7 km trek into the forest and the rafting. It's lasted about an hour for one way. Although animal sightings were few, the trek and overall natural beauty made it worthwhile. If you’re hoping for more wildlife, the best time to visit is between April and May the animals will more easily spotted.

This wildlife sanctuary, also known as Periyar National Park, in Kerala's Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts, offers some of the best wildlife experiences in India. Here, you can encounter elusive tigers, large herds of elephants, and a wide variety of other wild creatures
Balerion — Google review
Visited Periyar National Park and had an amazing experience exploring the deep forest and lush greenery. The park is beautifully maintained and offers a true taste of nature and wildlife. The best time to visit is from October to February, when the weather is pleasant, cool, and the forest looks vibrant and green. We were lucky to spot elephants, deer, and several bird species during our visit — a perfect place for nature and wildlife lovers. The peaceful atmosphere and scenic beauty of the forest make it a must-visit in Kerala. Highly recommend taking the early morning Nature walk and Green walk for the best experience!

Yodha Cultural Village, situated in Thekkady, Kerala, is a hub of indigenous culture and traditional art forms. Visitors can immerse themselves in the rich heritage of Kerala through a variety of cultural programs and events showcasing arts like Kathakali and Kalaripayattu. The captivating shows leave a lasting impression, with remarkable martial arts performances and opportunities for audience participation. This experience offers an enjoyable way to understand and appreciate the historical significance of Kerala's traditional activities.
I visited the yodha cultural centre today and had a very great experience. I went for Kathakali first and the dancers were immaculately talented. They had created a very fun and engaging session for the audience and it has a very affordable fee. The percussionists were also commendable. Our next destination was the kalaripayattu. The experience was thrilling and enthralling. Whoever wants to experience a part of the culture we have in our gods own country, i would highly recommend it to them. Kudos team. Few drawbacks i experienced was the venue was a bit hard to find and the when there is a huge crowd the parking would be a little hassle. Also the speakers could be a bit better because when the narrator spoke it was hard to understand and hear clearly.
Abiyuktha B — Google review
1 star deducted as I was a bit disappointed with the Kathakali show (Traditional Dance Drama). The 1 hour show went on just like that with explaining mudhras, facial expressions and small part of the drama. Otherwise, Kalaripayattu show (Traditional Martial Arts) was spectacular. Really impressed with the high energetic performance by the young Yodhas (Warriors) Superb skills.
Carpe L — Google review
I had once in a lifetime experience. Kerala is culturally so rich. They have this martial art called kalariyapattu which is so less known to the world , unlike karate or kung fu panda. The kalariyapattu was a feast to the eyes. The performers were so well trained. They did sword fighting, yoga asanas, gymnastics, fire play n what not. I could not take off my eyes fr a second. They deserve much more recognition. The last few acts with fire were hazardous but they displaced babies n kids properly from the first rows to the last rows. So safety was taken care of. It's a must watch for tourists. It was worth the money here. The disappointment was the kathakali show. The ticket price being 600 per person fr 2 shows is a bit high.
Tuhina S — Google review
This was not only a fun but a highly enriching experience. If you're lucky you'll get a chance to participate in the show to mimic the Kathakali artist or experience a warrior jump over you. These shows are such great value for money it would be a shame to miss them if you're Thekkady. Five stars.

One should not miss both the shows here, a must visit place once you are in Thekkedy. Kalaripayatu And Kathakali show are amazing and treat to watch. I would recommended everyone whoever visiting Thekkedy to be here at Yodha Culture Village.

The show was really fascinating. We enjoyed every second of the show. It was too good. It was engrossing, cool, powerful show. All the performers were very energetic, welcoming and friendly. Yoga done by Nidhi yodha was one of the high points for me. The fire performance was also really very good. This show will be a everlasting memory for me.

Epic Performances! We did the 6-8 show back to back. First we saw Kalari and then Kathakali! It's a must watch! Kalari was so energetic and vibrant. Kathakali was so elegant and beautiful! 😍 Get tickets in advance in afternoon or morning itself for front row seats in both!

It was an amazing experience! The Kalari martial arts performance was fantastic, especially the last 15 minutes with the fire display – truly thrilling to watch. After the show, you can also take photos with the artists, which is a nice touch. The Kathakali show was equally mind-blowing. The performance was powerful, and the singer’s voice added so much depth to the storytelling. Photos with the artists are allowed at the end here as well. Show timings: 6:00 – 7:00 PM: Kalari 7:00 – 8:00 PM: Kathakali Charges: ₹150 per person (kids free). Overall, it’s absolutely worth the visit if you’re in Thekkady!

Extremely worth seeing and understand the dance form and marshal art of Kerala. These two traditional forms were never displayed and explained better before. Hats off to the artists and participants who are so devoted and keeping these art forms alive. The centre is located in the center of Thakkady and easily accessible. Strongly Recommendation to visit this center to witness rich heritage of our country.

Mesmerizing Kalaripayattu and Kathakali Experience I recently visited the Kadathanadan Kalari and Navarasa Kathakali Centre in Thekkady, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! The hour-long demonstrations of Kalaripayattu and Kathakali were breathtaking, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. The performers were incredibly skilled, and the energy was palpable. I loved how they invited the audience to participate and try out the martial art techniques. The explanations provided were informative and added depth to the performances. The venue was well-maintained, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this centre to anyone interested in experiencing Kerala's traditional arts. Would definitely recommend and revisit!

Kadathanadan Kalari & Navarasa Kathakali Centre in Thekkady offers an incredible glimpse into Kerala’s rich cultural heritage. The centre hosts two traditional art forms — Kalaripayattu (ancient martial art of Kerala) and Kathakali (classical dance-drama). Both performances are well-organized, informative, and entertaining. The Kalari show displays amazing strength, flexibility, and discipline — the performers demonstrate real weapons, fire acts, and traditional combat techniques in an authentic arena. The Kathakali performance, on the other hand, is a colorful spectacle of expressive dance, storytelling, and intricate makeup. Before the show, the artists even demonstrate how the makeup is applied and explain the gestures used in the dance, which adds to the experience. The seating arrangement is comfortable, timings are punctual, and staff members are courteous. The overall experience is cultural, educational, and worth every minute. A must-visit spot in Thekkady for anyone wanting to witness Kerala’s true performing arts.

🌟 Kalaripayattu Show – Kumily, Thekkady 📍 Location: Kadathanadan Kalari Centre, Kumily, Thekkady ⏰ Duration: Around 1 hour 🎟️ Ticket Price: ₹200–₹300 per person Timings: Evening shows, usually between 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM ✨ Review I recently attended the Kalaripayattu show in Kumily, and it was a truly thrilling and memorable experience. The show is held in a traditional-style theatre, with a central pit where the performers demonstrate this ancient martial art. Incredible Skill: The artists were highly trained and performed a series of sword fights, stick combat, fire stunts, and agile moves that kept us on the edge of our seats. Their control, speed, and dedication were amazing to watch. Cultural Insight: The show begins with a brief introduction to the history and significance of Kalaripayattu — one of the oldest martial arts in the world. It gave a deeper appreciation of Kerala’s martial traditions. Safe and Comfortable Venue: Seating is arranged like an arena, offering a good view from all sides. The theatre was clean, well-lit, and safe. You can even take pictures and interact with the performers after the show. Fire Performance: One of the highlights was the fire ring and flaming torch stunts — absolutely breathtaking! Children and adults alike were captivated. Audience-Friendly: The staff is courteous, and the place is well-managed. The show starts on time and runs smoothly. 💡 Tips for Visitors: Arrive early to get front-row seats for a better view. Pre-book your tickets during tourist seasons to avoid disappointment. Avoid using flash photography during the performance. ⭐ Overall Experience: A must-watch if you're visiting Thekkady or Kumily! It’s a perfect mix of culture, thrill, and tradition. The performers deserve high praise for preserving and showcasing this ancient martial art so passionately. Highly recommended for families, students, and cultural enthusiasts.

Periyar National Park Ticket Office

National park
Periyar National Park Ticket Office is a must-visit destination in Thekkady, known for its sprawling 925sq.km wildlife protected area. It's home to rare and endangered wildlife species in India. The ticket office offers tickets for boat rides on Periyar Lake, with online booking recommended to avoid long queues. Visitors can enjoy a 1.5-hour boat ride through the jungle, spotting deer and birds, while the elephant ride and well-organized boat rides are highlights.
Periyar National Reserve is one of those places that makes you slow down and really connect with nature. The highlight for me was the boat ride on Periyar Lake — the calm waters surrounded by thick forests and hills felt almost cinematic. If you’re lucky, you might spot elephants by the shore, along with sambar deer and plenty of birdlife. Even when you don’t see big animals, the serenity of the place is worth it. The guided nature walks and bamboo rafting are excellent if you want a closer look at the flora and fauna. The forest guides are knowledgeable and make the experience engaging. The air feels fresh, the views are beautiful, and it’s a perfect escape from the usual rush. Do keep in mind that wildlife sightings are about patience and luck, so don’t expect a zoo-like experience — it’s about being part of the forest. Overall, Periyar is a must-visit if you enjoy nature, photography, and a peaceful environment.

I recently visited Thekkady Periyar National Park with my family. We reached early in the morning and purchased our safari tickets around 7:00 AM. After waiting for nearly an hour in a long queue, we boarded the buses that took us inside the park bus fare 75 Rs. Once inside, we bought tickets for the boat safari (₹255 per person). The boat ride and the surrounding forest views were absolutely stunning — it honestly felt like a scene straight out of a Hollywood movie! Unfortunately, we weren’t lucky enough to spot any wild animals during the trip. From what I’ve learned, the best time to visit for wildlife sightings is between February and June. Overall, it was an okay experience for me. The setup feels quite commercialized, more like a business venture by the Kerala government rather than a pure wildlife experience.
Nithin S — Google review
The Periyar National Park Ticket Office is well-organized and efficiently managed, ensuring a smooth entry process for visitors. Located near the main gate of the reserve, this office handles bookings for boat safaris, nature walks, jungle treks, and bamboo rafting. The staff are polite, helpful, and provide clear instructions regarding ticket types, timings, and safety rules. The counters are well-marked, and the process is systematic, though it’s advisable to arrive early — especially during weekends or holiday seasons — as tickets for safaris can sell out fast. The office also displays useful information about Periyar’s wildlife, conservation efforts, and eco-tourism programs. Overall, a clean, well-maintained facility that offers good visitor support and helps make the Periyar experience more organized and enjoyable.

Getting tickets are tougher these days , went for 1:45 pm but really didn’t see any animal other than bison and deer, nothing else 5 star is for those who made us opportunity to have a nice boating experience inside dense forest Initial queue arrangement isn’t that great could be improved Let us maintain silence please, don’t throw bottles don’t spit don’t make noise don’t pollute the environment.. remember we are going to their area and let’s have some basic etiquette Have a nice experience

The foreignes have to pay 2 times more than Indian people- that’s ridiculous. You also have to wait in a line for gates to open so you can buy a boat ticket. However, the workers on the boat were wonderful.

If you are a nature lover, than you love this place. But if you want to see animal in jungle it may be frustrated you. Good bus service to appear boating station. You have to prebook boating seat for weekend and holidays.

We choose Bamboo Groove full day tour including rafting. The price it was too high for what you receive. I don’t say it wasn’t nice at all, but for few hours of walk combined with looking bird, few types of plants and trees and bamboo boat rafting on full sun it was too expensive. From pros we saw twice elephants. But service was very carefully and without binoculars you couldn’t see them closely. They keep long distance. Too long. Also included breakfast dinner was very tiny. Simply, but tasty. When you reach the dinner point is time to rest and come back the same way to starting point. Everything tasks 6-7h. Service was gently but not everyone speak English well. And last but not least. Forget about any tigers during this tour. They exist in park but to see them you need to buy special night stay for another huge amount of money. And if course it’s not guaranteed ;)

The Elephant Camp in Thekkady is a captivating attraction that offers visitors a unique opportunity to interact closely with majestic elephants. Visitors can enjoy fun rides on the elephants' backs and even have the chance to feed, bathe, and scrub these mighty pachyderms. For an extra thrill, you can opt for an elephant bath experience where the elephant sprays water on you.
I recently visited Elephant Champ with my wife, and we had a very enjoyable experience. Here’s a quick rundown: Ride experience: The 15-minute elephant ride was smooth and fun, making it a memorable activity for both of us. Price: The ride costs ₹500 per person, which is reasonable for the duration and experience. Optional Bath: If you want to have a bath with the elephant, it’s available for ₹1,180 per person, adding a unique and refreshing element to the visit. Overall, if you're looking for a relaxing and enjoyable elephant ride, Elephant Champ is a great choice. The prices are fair, and the experience is well worth it. Highly recommended for couples or anyone wanting a closer connection with these gentle giants!

A popular stop in Thekkady if you want to see elephants up close. They offer short experiences like elephant rides, feeding, and watching the elephants being bathed. The place can get crowded and the waiting time might be longer on weekends. Ticket prices are on the higher side for the duration of the activities. The elephants seem reasonably well cared for, and the staff guide you through the interactions safely. It’s a very touristy setup, but still a fun and memorable experience if you’re visiting with family or trying this for the first time.
Rahul A — Google review
Nice and memorable experience with elephants. The ride costs ₹500 per person (minimum 2 tickets required), and the elephant shower experience is around ₹650. Prices feel a bit on the higher side, but worth trying at least once in a lifetime. Kids especially enjoy it a lot, and it’s a great place to create wonderful memories.
Ramamoorthy — Google review
Elephant Camp offers a variety of activities like elephant rides, elephant baths, Kathakali dance, Kalaripayattu shows, musical fountains, and more. The place looks lively and has good entertainment options for visitors. However, the experience was quite disappointing in some aspects. The elephant ride costs ₹500 for just 10 minutes, and they don’t allow solo rides — you’re made to share the elephant with a random person. What was even more disturbing was seeing the mahout hitting the elephant during the ride, which felt very cruel and heartbreaking. I also requested a full video of the ride, but they denied it and only shot a short 30-second clip despite charging ₹500. Overall, while the place has potential and several attractions, the treatment of elephants and the poor management of the rides really spoil the experience. I hope the authorities take better care of the animals and improve visitor services. 🐘💔
Yash M — Google review
It's a good experience riding on a elephant. Just a 10 mins ride ₹500 per person. When we go for ticket they said ₹500 per person but some people in this area said they are elephant camp sales team and the offer the price for ₹400 per person. If you get that amount go for it there is no difference in that and no difference in ticket. There is no amount printed on ticket. The ticket check guy is a fraud they not call people inorder to ticket number just call randomly. Be cautious they tricks you and wast your time. Parking is available. I think parking is free for everyone or if you buy and tickets
Sambhu B — Google review
A very amazing experience although huge mismanagement by the authorities.. had to wait 3hrs in line for the ride. They do not maintain the first come and 1st serve system although they should, otherwise ppl buy ticket earlier and come late and cut the line.

A good spot in thekkady to spend some time. Took the elephant ride and watched Kalaripayattu and Kadhakali which was great. The pricing was also fair and value for money especially the kalaripayyatu.

The elephant safari is truly a must-try experience! The property also hosts several cultural programs like Kathakali, magic shows, and more — making it a great all-round experience. You can explore everything easily on your own, so there’s no need for guides. Be cautious — some people may approach you claiming to help with tickets and ask for money. Simply park your vehicle and purchase tickets directly from the counter for a smooth, hassle-free visit.

I would put 3.5 if I could because this place is clearly better than "average" or "satisfying". Really good meals and a huge offer. Some of what we ordered was a bit disappointing however, like the coconut milkshake was too sweet and plain. Others on the contrary were delicious like the coconut rice. Service was helpful and prices are affordable.

Parotta- not too hard but it was thin and perfect size 2. beef curry - excellent, many pieces were there and the curry is more than enough for 2 people 3. egg curry - I like tangy and sweet taste , so it worked out for me Beef - 220 , egg - 85 , parotta- 20 The location is at a small lane below a hotel just look around when google map location ends

Avarage food experience. Just ok. Not bad. Normal waiter service. My Suggestion is please check your bill before paying. They provide veg and non veg dishes. Normal ambience. Normal seating. Menu displayed in wall. Have some parking space behind the hotel. It's good. #food

Visited Thekkady Cafe and had their Kerala Veg Special Meal along with Chicken Chettinadu – both were absolutely awesome and truly authentic in taste. The food quality was top-notch, served hot and hygienic. The service was super fast, and the waiter was very polite, humble, and welcoming. What impressed me the most was that they even offered a little extra rice without any extra charge – it honestly felt like eating at home. If you are in Thekkady, this place is a must-visit for the best food and service. Highly recommended! 🌿🍲🍗

Thekkady Café is a simple and unpretentious place, but it offers a genuinely pleasant dining experience. The service stands out — the staff is courteous, attentive, and friendly in a natural way, which makes the meal feel relaxed and comfortable. The food is decent and nicely prepared. While it’s not the kind of cuisine that aims to impress, everything tasted fresh and well-balanced, and we left fully satisfied. The pricing is fair, offering a good value for what you receive. It’s not necessarily the place you travel across town for, but if you’re in Thekkady and looking for a reliable, welcoming spot with kind service and honest food, Thekkady Café is a very good option. A solid 4 stars — enjoyable and worth returning to.

Visited here for a late lunch, and it was amazing! 😀 we ordered a Paneer Shahjahani, Ringna Bataka, some Jeera rice, and some lemon juice. The food was very authentic, and when the chef realised that there was something wrong with the order, he fixed it and made us a new meal within 5mins. I highly recommend this restaurant and would love to come back. Thank you to everyone who was involved 😀

Nava Jyoti Pure Veg Restaurant is a spacious pure veg restaurant. We visited for lunch when it was quite empty. We ordered potato wedges, which were very tasty. The staff was attentive and helped prepare a separate meal for our kids. The Veg Kadai was average, but the rice was excellent. Clean washrooms are available on-site. Overall, it’s a good spot for affordable and quick vegetarian meals.

I went here by chance as they advertised vegan options which is nice to see. The curry I had was great, really hearty, maybe a little too salty (but I'm very sensitive to salt so probably fine for most!)

Embarking on a culinary journey with The Tiger Chef in Thekkady, India, was an experience I will cherish forever. During my two-hour session with Joshy and his delightful wife, I delved deep into the vibrant flavors and traditions of Kerala's cuisine. This wasn't merely a cooking class; it was an immersive celebration of culture and family.
We took a cooking class with Chef Joshy, and it was well worth it. He was patient and helpful, explaining every step and letting us try everything we had the courage to do. We made a wide range of dishes, and left stuffed and happy. And his wife is an Ayurvedic masseuse! They are clearly interested in what they do, and well connected in the local community. They are a sweet family, showcasing the best of Kerala. We highly recommend this activity for those who enjoy good food and company, and the experience of cooking together!

We got a recommendation from an Israeli toou guide and booked through WhatsApp. He was very flexible with the time and our wishes. We got there and right away got chai before he took us with a car to the plantation Ayurveda farm where we got an interesting tour. After that he took us to his restaurant . We were the only one there and started the cooking lesson. We had 2 dishes of fish and a few dishes of vegetable and rice puffs. We had a lot of fun and the taste was superb. His wife was assisting us and they both were super friendly. The food was really a chef meal!!! Best food we ate in Kerala!! Thank you

A Culinary Adventure with The Tiger Chef in Thekkady, India During my recent visit to Thekkady, I had the privilege of spending two unforgettable hours with The Tiger Chef, Joshy, and his lovely wife, immersing myself in the heart of Kerala’s culinary traditions. This wasn’t just a cooking class – it was a celebration of culture, family, and the rich flavors of India. Joshy’s charm and easygoing nature immediately made us feel at home as he guided us through the art of creating a traditional Kerala curry. From learning to grate fresh coconut to blending organic spices with precision, every step was a hands-on experience. We cooked with long beans, tuna, and chicken, each dish coming alive with vibrant colors and aromatic spices. What made this experience even more special was its authenticity. Set in his local town, we were welcomed into Joshy’s family, getting a glimpse of their warmth and hospitality. Adding to the magic, we were treated to a parade celebrating a religious festival, which brought an extra layer of cultural immersion to our day. Joshy’s expertise in balancing spices was truly remarkable, and he made the process approachable for everyone. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or a beginner, his guidance ensures you’ll leave with a newfound appreciation for Indian cuisine and the confidence to recreate these dishes at home. I can’t think of a better way to experience the culture and splendor of Kerala than through this unique culinary journey. If you find yourself in Thekkady, don’t miss the opportunity to cook, learn, and connect with The Tiger Chef and his wonderful family. It’s an experience that will stay with you long after the flavours have faded.
Andrea N — Google review
Joshy Joseph jokes that he calls himself the Tiger Chef because you are so unlikely to see a tiger at Peryiar Tiger Reserve he aims to make up for the disappointment by offering you a great cooking class experience. In the tiny open air space at the top of his house, the Tiger Chef took us through a range of recipes step by step. We learned how to cook Kerala Fish Curry, Thaw Grilled Chicken, Yellow Dal Fry and Beans Thoran. This was hands on cooking – not a demo. We even got to grate the coconut on the traditional old fashioned machine that his wife was still using. We learned about the importance of coconut oil and coconut milk in Keralan cooking and marvelled at the range of spices involved, each being carefully added in just the right quantity at just the right time to add sufficient flavour and heat to the dish. A great experience and a fun evening - all the family participated. This was one of the highlights of our 3 week trip to Kerala - full itinerary on LovetoWander. The restaurant is temporarily closed whilst Tiger Chef searches for new premises.

Today I had a cooking class with Joshy at “Tiger Chef” to cook a bean and fish curry. My expectations were exceeded: we were outside on the terrace, everything was clean, fresh, well prepared and Joshy has a lot of knowledge and talent. You can tell that he enjoys his job, that this restaurant is his passion and how much effort he puts into it. Unlike other cooking demonstrations, I was able to do a lot of cooking myself and had a lot of things explained to me. I also learned how to grate fresh coconut and how to make fresh coconut milk myself. Afterwards, of course, we ate and there were a few other dishes, like rice and dal, which Joshy had already prepared. Overall, I can only recommend this restaurant to everyone, definitely go there, the food is super tasty and fresh and prepared with a lot of love, the cooking course was a particularly great experience for me. Unfortunately I'm only here for a short time, otherwise I would come back.

Tusker Café, located in Thekaddy, is a fantastic dining spot known for its delicious food and impeccable hygiene standards. The café offers a pleasant ambiance and is perfect for memorable outings with loved ones. Guests can enjoy must-try dishes like banana leaf specialties and fried chicken while being warmly welcomed by the incredibly nice owner who interacts with visitors. Despite limited space, the café's cool decor and soft music create an enjoyable atmosphere.
Authentic Kerala Flavours – Worth a Visit! We had a great dining experience at this place known for its authentic Kerala cuisine. The staff was courteous and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we stepped in. The menu offers a wide variety of options, including delicious veg Kerala thalis, flavorful fish preparations, and biryani that was perfectly spiced. Every dish gave us a true taste of Kerala! The restaurant was a bit crowded, which is understandable since it's located near a national park—a popular spot for visitors. Despite that, the service was smooth, and the pricing was very reasonable for the quality and quantity offered. Definitely recommended for anyone looking to enjoy local flavors in a lively setting!

Visited this cafe for lunch and was impressed with the Kerala traditional meals, which were truly yummy and served authentically on a banana leaf. The fish fry, however, needed some improvement, as it was a bit undercooked inside and could have been fried more thoroughly. Enjoyed the experience so much that I returned for dinner the same day to try more Kerala specialties. The puttu with mutton fry was awesome—flavorful and well-prepared. Idiyappam with mixed vegetable curry was also good, providing a satisfying taste of local cuisine. A special mention to Mr. Prakash for his warm hospitality, which made both visits enjoyable and welcoming. Overall, a pleasant experience with delicious traditional food and excellent service.

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4.5/5) We had our dinner at Tusker Café, Thekkady, and it was a great experience. The café is located close to the Periyar Forest Reserve, making it very convenient. We tried their famous Khizi Chicken Biryani, which was truly exceptional. The Chicken Pepper Masala was full of flavor and perfectly spiced. Their Malabar Parotta paired so well with the dishes. Food quality overall was excellent and freshly prepared. Our dinner for 2 cost around ₹800, which felt very reasonable. The staff was warm and service was quick. It’s a nice spot for tasty, authentic Kerala flavors. Highly recommended if you are in or around Thekkady

During my recent visit to Kerala- God's Own Country, I came across a hidden gem of Thekkady- Tusker Cafe. I had the pleasure of having lunch and it turned out to be one of the most memorable dining experiences of my trip. The restaurant served a traditional Kerala Sadya meal, beautifully arranged with a variety of authentic dishes that truly captured the essence of Kerala’s rich culinary heritage. Each item on the banana leaf was cooked to perfection, offering a perfect balance of flavors – from the mild and tangy curries to the crispy papad and refreshing accompaniments. To complement the sadya, I also tried the Karimeen (Pearl Spot) Fish Fry, which was absolutely delicious. The fish was fresh, marinated with traditional spices, and fried to just the right crispness, making it a delightful addition to the vegetarian spread. What made the experience even more special was the warm hospitality. The owner personally interacted with us, ensuring we were comfortable and satisfied. His friendliness and genuine interest in his guests added a personal touch rarely found in restaurants. He even took a photo with us, which made us feel truly welcomed. Overall, Tusker Cafe is a must-visit in Thekkady for anyone looking to savor authentic Kerala flavors with a homely, heartfelt experience.

His warm smile and professional attitude made us feel really welcome. Highly recommend visiting Tusker Café — and if you’re lucky, ask for Vijay! He’ll make your dining experience even better.

Visiting Elephant Junction in Thekkady was truly one of the most unique and memorable experiences of my trip to Kerala. It’s not every day that you get to be so close to these gentle giants, and the activities here are designed to let you interact with them in a safe and respectful way. The highlight for me was the elephant ride through the plantation – moving slowly on the back of such a majestic animal while surrounded by lush greenery is something I’ll never forget. But beyond rides, what makes Elephant Junction special are the experiences like feeding, bathing, and even showering with the elephants. Getting to hold a basket of fruit and watch the elephants gently take it from your hand is magical, and the playful water splashes during the bathing session are pure fun. The staff here are knowledgeable and treat the elephants with care, making sure both visitors and animals are comfortable. They also explain the elephants’ habits, personalities, and history, which adds a nice educational touch. Photography is encouraged, and the staff are happy to help you capture those once-in-a-lifetime moments. The setting itself is beautiful – surrounded by spice plantations and greenery, adding to the calm and natural vibe. It’s also well managed, with proper facilities for visitors. Overall, Elephant Junction is more than just a tourist spot; it’s a chance to bond with elephants in an ethical and memorable way. Perfect for families, couples, and anyone who loves wildlife. A must-do if you’re in Thekkady!

One of the best personalized, educational tours I have ever experienced. Green Park Spices plantation is a 17-acre spice plantation where a wide variety of spices are grown, now run by the second-generation of the family. On arrival, Mr. Abhishek guided us around the plantation giving us valuable insights into the world of spices in as much as their varied applications go, their growth process, harvesting and processing before they reach ultimate consumers. He also enlightened us on selection of spices available in retail stores. The tour was kept interesting because Mr. Abhishek kept quizzing us on spices while sharing his abundant knowledge with us. The plantation's sales outlet has a huge variety of spices, their proprietary masalas (created from their own spices), oils and condiments, besides souvenirs and gifts, some made from a single block of genuine teak wood. Even if the prices of their spices are higher than general retail stores, it is substantially offset with the quantities used to achieve far greater results in your cooking. Most importantly, in this day and age of adulteration, one can be assured of genuine spices procured from this plantation. We wish them every success in their endeavours!

We had an amazing tour in November 2025 of this lovely organic, mixed crop, 17 acre spice farm. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable. As a keen cook, I LOVED tasting the difference between knock-off cinnamon and the real thing. This site is a must visit for seeing a lot in a beautiful small setting, and for buying the freshest of healthy spices.

The place is very good and serene. Our host, Sapna, was very supportive, and she explained the things in detail. Got to know abt so many hidden facts about spices and came to know that the most of the spices we were eating till date are duplicate. Also bought lots of natural and original spices. Will recommend that if you are coming to Thekkady, then buy spices directly from gardens as the shops are filled with duplicate cheap items.

Rajesh even ordered us a tuk tuk and sorted the price for us. Absolutely excellent morning!

Thekkady Rose Park is a charming destination nestled in the highlands of Idukki district, Kerala. Surrounded by lush forests and picturesque cities, it offers a delightful blend of hills, spice gardens, and serene ambiance. The Periyar National Park adds to its allure, making it a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts. Visitors can explore the plantations and forests while enjoying the tranquility and natural splendor that Thekkady has to offer.
Thekkady Rose Park is a good spot to spend time with children. It’s neatly maintained and has a decent selection of games and activities that kids will enjoy. However, the cost for each game is on the higher side, which might not feel worth it for everyone. If you’re planning to try all the games, I recommend visiting before 10 AM. After that, waiting times can increase, especially during weekends or holidays. The park does a good job managing cleanliness and general upkeep, which makes the visit pleasant overall. There is a small canteen inside the park, but it has very limited seating and tends to get crowded quickly. The food is okay, but the prices are definitely high for what you get. It might be a good idea to carry your own snacks if you’re visiting with family. Overall, it’s a fun place for kids, but a little planning helps make the experience smoother and more enjoyable.

Overall, Thekkady Rose Park is a wonderful choice if you're looking for a calm, family-friendly outing in a naturally beautiful setting

The park is beautifully designed with vibrant flower gardens, scenic viewpoints, and plenty of fun activities like boating, zipline, 3D theatre, electric car racing, and many more. It’s a perfect spot for both kids and adults — full of energy, excitement, and great photo opportunities everywhere. The on-site restaurant serves tasty food at budget-friendly prices, and there’s a large parking area which makes the visit hassle-free. Overall, a wonderful place to spend a relaxed and entertaining day with family and friends. Highly recommended!

One of the good play areas to visit in thekkady. Many activities are there preferably for kids like, bungee jumping, boating, zip line, go kart, 2D visuals, horse ride, swings for adults and kids etc.. depends upon the activity the price range varies. half a day is enough to play there... Adults can sit and relax. Many selfie spots are there to take nice photos. They also had canteen inside.
Rachel S — Google review
This venue is a fantastic spot for kids to hang out and have fun, offering a wide variety of games that cater to all age groups—even elders can join in on the excitement! The flexible package options are a great advantage, as they allow visitors to play any game within the same price bracket, making it a worthwhile investment for a full day of entertainment. Beyond the games, the place features a charming grape farm, small boating opportunities, and a restaurant—though the food may not be its strongest point. There’s ample parking space, ensuring a hassle-free visit. However, one minor inconvenience is the requirement to walk to the reception for additional game payments, which can be a bit tedious. Additionally, certain games tend to get crowded, so planning your visit strategically is recommended. Overall, it’s a lively and engaging destination for families and groups seeking a mix of activities in a spacious setting. Definitely worth a visit for a fun-filled experience!

A good place to come and admire the plants and relax. Cool place. Swings are used by elder ladies, instead of kids, should be stopped. Very few rose plants are there.

Thekkady Rose Park is a colorful and fun-filled destination perfect for families. With beautiful flower gardens and exciting activities like zip-lining and sky cycling, it offers a great mix of nature and adventure.
Ganesan B — Google review
A good spot for families, kids, and couples. Entry is ₹120, and there’s an optional activity package for ₹600 that can easily keep you engaged for around 3 hours, especially in the evening when it’s more comfortable since it’s an open garden. There are plenty of photo-friendly statues, and a mix of activities for both kids and adults—some are free, others paid. There’s also a decent cafeteria with a variety of junk foods and space to sit and relax. Overall, it’s a fun, casual outing and definitely worth a visit if you’re looking to unwind and keep everyone entertained.

SORA | Thekkady is a stylish restaurant in Kerala with spacious and clean interiors, making it suitable for the current Covid-19 situation. The staff are friendly and attentive, always wearing gloves. Guests have enjoyed delicious dishes such as biriyani, fish fingers, crispy chicken burger, beef biryani, and peri peri chicken grill. Despite some minor disappointments with the service and dessert, visitors found the overall dining experience to be enjoyable.
Good was very good here, missed the biriyani as it was over when we visited. Tried DBC, Blueberry pastry, pizza, Veg nuggets, spring roll, egg sandwich and soup.

I had the pleasure of dining at Sora Grills, and it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, with a modern twist that set the tone for a fantastic meal. The service was top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who knew their menu inside out. Our server took the time to explain the different options and made excellent recommendations. We ordered the grilled chicken, veg burgers, fish fingers and spring rolls. The flavors were rich and bold, and the presentation was impressive. The portions were generous, and we left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. What truly sets Sora Grills apart is the quality of their ingredients. You can taste the freshness and care that goes into preparing each dish. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food and service. Overall, I highly recommend Sora Grills to anyone looking for a exceptional dining experience. We can't wait to go back and try more of their delicious dishes!

Good atmosphere, good location, mediocre service and poor food. The curry we ordered was stale and the chappathy dry. Maybe we got unlucky and it was a one time issue or maybe it's a regular thing.. Being on the highway, most restaurants like this never care because 90% of the visitors are just traveling and never return. I d never want anyone to risk it - look elsewhere.

Good food with a neatly maintained, pleasant ambiance, and good service too. The BBQ was cooked well, and all the dishes we ordered were delicious. Their ₹5 coconut candy tastes superb. This is a place we can dine at whenever we use this road, without any regrets

*Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the Hype* We had a terrible experience dining here. We chose this place based on the good ratings, but the food was far from what we expected. Thekkady is indeed known for its spices, but that doesn’t mean they should be added to every dish regardless of the cuisine. We ordered the *Schezwan Chicken Noodles*, which shockingly had no spice at all — instead, it was overly sweet with an overwhelming amount of cumin seeds. The chicken was poorly cooked and lacked flavor, making the dish even more disappointing. The only item that was somewhat decent was the *Ghee rice*. It’s disheartening to see a place rated highly, possibly just for the ambience. Food quality should come first. Please don’t go by the stars — taste matters more.

Must Try Dragon Grilled Chicken Beef Roast Fry Al Fahm Chicken Can be avoided Chicken Biryani unless you like the Kerala style; then it's awesome

Decent place for lunch and dinner in Thekkady.. We tried their Alfaham Mandi and Chicken Burger. Mandi was okay. The burger was good. The ambience is great. The place has good vibes. Ample seating space and well maintained. The staff was polite and mostly spoke English. That helped quite a bit. They also have ample parking for 4-wheelers. Recommended!!

Nestled in the heart of Kumily, Green Valley Restaurant is a delightful culinary haven that caters to both vegetarians and seafood lovers alike. During my three-day stay in Thekkady, I discovered this gem and was thoroughly impressed by the variety on offer. From mouthwatering chapati paired with rich mushroom gravy to succulent chicken roast and crispy fish fry, every dish was a treat for the taste buds. The standout for me was definitely the egg fried rice—simply unbeatable!
Food was really nice & they serve food late till 11pm which is really appreciating because sometime tourist reach late & it become difficult for them. Chicken Fried was not upto the mark however fish fry was best. Chicken friend rice so delicious 😋

Visited Hill View Café & Homestay, Thekkady with my friends on February 1st, and it was a wonderful experience! The location is peaceful with a beautiful view of the hills – perfect for a relaxed getaway. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We also enjoyed tasty homely food from the café – simple but fresh and satisfying. Great place to stay if you’re visiting Thekkady with friends or family. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a calm and budget-friendly stay with a personal touch. Will definitely visit again!

I recently stayed at Hill View Cafe Thekkady and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The house itself was clean, cozy, and well-maintained, with all the essential amenities provided. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and I especially appreciated the attention to small details like fresh linens, complimentary toiletries, and a homely décor that made me feel relaxed.

Hill View Cafe and Stay is an absolutely lovely place to spend your weekend. Mannish family provides not only a stay and food, but an amazingly warm welcome, treating you with attention and care. We stayed here for 3 days, here is what we did: - enjoyed stunning mountain views, - went up to the viewpoint, - had delicious freshly cooked local meals 3 times a day, - watched a campfire And we are absolutely happy with the stay. The coziest place in Kerala.

This was amazing in the evening sunset and morning. 2-3 PPL can stay here, mostly bachelor's can enjoy. I'm not sure how the food, better you take 1km down for restaurants. From this location you can reach top point in 1kms. Stay has a bathroom and at night campfire 🔥 they do. No air conditioner, only cooler and table fan. I don't think any safety issues in this place, but may differ upon circumstances and own risk. Backside you have tea shop and small shop.
Anbuselvan — Google review
An exhilarating hill view, friendly and hospitable host, yummy home cooked food. The campfire at night and BBQ deserve a special mention The place offers a nature lovers experience at good prices.
