Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is famous for its otherworldly volcanic landscape, with Mount Bromo’s smoking crater rising from a vast “Sea of Sand.” Travelers come for sunrise viewpoints like Penanjakan, where you can see multiple volcanoes and, on clear days, Mount Semeru—the highest peak in Java—often releasing small plumes of ash. The area is also home to the Tenggerese people, and villages around the park offer a glimpse of local culture and traditions. Hiking, jeep tours, and horseback rides across the caldera make it one of Indonesia’s most distinctive outdoor destinations.
With favorites like Ngadisari, PASAR Desa Tosari, and Mount Bromo, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Cemara Indah Hotel and Kusuma Kitchen so you can get the best taste of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Mount Bromo, located in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java Province, is a picturesque volcano with a stairway leading to its crater. To reach Mount Bromo, visitors can travel overland from Probolinggo to Cemoro Lawang and then hire a Jeep Hardtop to explore the seas of sand and the crater. The mountain is renowned for its stunning sunrise views, which can be enjoyed from the top of Penanjakan.
Very beautiful and grand. The sunrise is beautiful. Not really hard journey to go up. Driver driving jeep for most is the route. Bottom of the Mountain Bromo is with a lot of volcano ashes, better to wear a musk, even though guide says no.
Skye C — Google review
Would recommend doing it in the afternoon around 2-3 pm, we used the villagers’ path to avoid the park entrance fee. The hike down the path was slightly slopey, but once you reach the sea of sand it is all flat and sandy it’s a fairly easy walk.
Korrine K — Google review
Visiting Mount Bromo was one of the most breathtaking experiences of my life. The journey started early before dawn the air was cold, the stars still shining, and the excitement building with every step. As the sky slowly turned from deep blue to shades of pink and gold, the view of Bromo’s smoky crater appeared, surrounded by rolling hills and mist. It felt unreal, like standing on another planet. Watching the sunrise from the viewpoint was pure magic — the sun peeked over the horizon, lighting up the sea of clouds and painting the volcano in gold. The wind was cold, but the moment was warm with awe and peace. Every second felt worth the early wake-up and the climb. Mount Bromo isn’t just a place you visit it’s an experience you feel. The sound of the wind, the smell of sulfur, the endless view of nature’s power and beauty truly legendary. 🌋✨

no words, only emotions...We started early from Surabaya, then continued by jeep through the misty Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The highlight — a breathtaking sunrise above the clouds, followed by a scenic jeep ride and a hike to the crater of Mount Bromo itself.
Lazizbek E — Google review
If you are in Surabaya, you must climb Bromo. Best to go for a sunrise hike. The mountains and the view from the vantage point is incredible. It's such an amazing mountain with incredible folklore. This is a sacred mountain so please do not litter (there were a lot in the surroundings). There is also an altar of Ganesha where you can make offerings. There are also plenty of peddlers selling snacks and drinks. The climb is actually easy for physically fit people. But do note that there is a steep staircase climb to reach the mouth of the volcano. Alternatively, you may opt to rent a horse ride. In all, it's a must visit place.
Muhammad M — Google review
Mt. Bromo is a stunning place and definitely worth visiting, BUT... It's not well maintained, polluted and not much is invested into it's environment. See the picture how the fence around the crater looks like... Not very safe. I went during the day and it was not crowded. And obviously the horses don't get enough food. The horse ride is really not necessary...
M S — Google review
Beautiful crater and beautiful view of the sandy sea. Access by scooter or Jeep. Scooter parking 5000 rupees but you can park it in the same place as the Jeep (free). Then walk 10/15 minutes to get to the bottom of the stairs to climb the Mont. Entrance to the Mount = 250,000 rupees per person. Exorbitant and shameful price. HORSE ABUSE!!! Stop renting horses because you don't want to walk 15 minutes !!! Shame on Indonesians and tourists!!
Co C — Google review
I booked with a local tour group and had an amazing experience at Mt Bromo. The tour starts around midnight and we arrived at the viewpoint by 3 am to wait for the sunrise. The wait was a bit long since the sun comes up closer to 5 am and it was chilly, but you can rent a blanket for 25,000 IDR. The sunrise over Mt Bromo is absolutely breathtaking and the jeep ride through the desert to get there was exciting on its own. Our guides were wonderful and made everything smooth and enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Mt Bromo.

Bukit Cinta Taman Nasional Bromo Tengger Semeru

Park
Bukit Cinta Taman Nasional Bromo Tengger Semeru is a popular sunrise spot in the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. Apart from Penanjakan 1, it offers stunning views of the sunrise and surrounding landscape. Visitors can reach the area by hiking or taking an ojek to avoid congestion. The spot features stalls selling snacks and warm beverages, as well as winter gear for rent.
While people tend to flock to Bromo for the sunrise, staying for sunset is worth it too! We had the whole viewing point to ourselves, which made the whole experience even more special - like our very own private sunset, heh. When the colours transition into that soft golden hue across the horizon, it seems almost unreal, with pictures seriously not doing it enough justice. Althought there was a bit of cloud cover that blocked parts of the horizon, the colours that shone through were still stunning :) Take note that none of the warungs or rest areas were open for sunsets (at least when we were there on a weekday) so come prepared if you're planning to be there for a while.
MD A — Google review
Beautiful place, a must see scenery, it's very cold, and windy. You should wear a thick jacket, beanie, shawl, gloves, and socks. Otherwise you will end up freezing. Haha.
Koh H — Google review
Bukit Cinta offers an incredible experience with breathtaking views of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. You need to wake up very early to ride up by jeep before dawn, but watching the sunrise over the volcanic landscape is absolutely worth it. It can get quite crowded, yet the scenery is truly spectacular. Make sure to dress warmly — it’s cold in the early morning, and anoraks, gloves, and hats are highly recommended. There are small shops and cafés at the top for a warm coffee or snack. After sunrise, don’t miss the chance to go down to the volcano itself — the hike to the caldera of one of the active volcanoes is unforgettable.
Carles D — Google review
Fabulous view of mount bromo. If you come for subset be prepared to share the place with hundreds of other people.
Nikolaus S — Google review
The view was amazing, but the stairs are challenging. Find another way to reach the other spot.
Clarissa E — Google review
This spot is good alternative if the penanjakan is too full of people. The view is good! The space is not so big, but it also have stairs to one of highest hill.
Ranny H — Google review
This place has a beautiful landscape and also very fresh air. This is the best place to visit if you want to see a mountain top but too lazy to hike. The air is really cold, but it's really worth it! Be careful, you'll get out of breath while walking up those stairs.
Aldi W — Google review
If you have a chance to go higher to Pananjakan, go there because the view from top is better. But if you have no chance due to full capacity, this place can be an alternative. Don't expect a full sunrise, because the view is blocked by the mountain on the side. But it's still a beautiful view tho. You can't fully see the Bromo crater as well, the Batok mountain blocked the view. Not recommended for a first timer, better you go higher to Pananjakan if you want a better experience. But there's a positive thing, it's less crowded than in Pananjakan, make it easier to take some pics with no worry.

Seruni Point

Hiking area
Seruni Point Bromo is a popular sunrise lookout spot near Mount Bromo, offering breathtaking views at an altitude of approximately 2,400 meters above sea level. To reach the point, visitors must navigate a path with numerous stairs and obstacles. Despite the challenging journey, the stunning sunrise and panoramic vistas make it worthwhile. The area provides seating for sunrise viewing and offers refreshments like coffee, tea, and cup noodles for purchase. Additionally, hikers can find food and water available for sale.
Went here for a holiday spot, very good view, when i went there there is no wait, the hike was so peaceful, not even someone else is there. Since i went before the sunset so people don’t really hike, i went using the ojek because i can’t use the car to the top. It’s a 100rb for one bike, but i promise you that the view is worth the price, it is 25rb each person to enter the price, so 125rb per person. Overall, it was very worth the price, 8.8/10
Bennett Y — Google review
Went here at 11am, the view was stunning, and even better: we were just on our own here, no other soul - probably all people go for sunrise/sunset. Great way to avoid the crowds! Yes it is very steep climb, so take your time. No entrance fee for this spot.
Ralf K — Google review
Seruni Point is an amazing viewpoint over Mount Bromo with breathtaking panoramic views. We went in the afternoon and it was absolutely perfect — unlike the sunrise spots, there was almost no one around, so we could enjoy the scenery in peace and quiet. The view of the volcano and surrounding landscape was unforgettable, and the calm atmosphere made it even more special. Highly recommend visiting in the afternoon if you prefer a more relaxed experience without the crowds!
Michał J — Google review
Woke up at 2.15am by the 4x4 engine sound ferrying hikers. I rode my bike to Seruni point foothill and hike up to 2nd highest view point. It was cold and there were many vendors selling hot beverages. I could see galaxy of starts while waiting for sunrise. And at ~5am, the magical thing happen......
Shanmugam R — Google review
This place gives you great views over the Bromo Semeru national park without playing the entrance fee of 250k. There is loads of people even on weekdays coming for sunrise. Tried to sleep under the viewpoint but for some reason the people started coming at 3am for 5:40am sunrise and were extremely noisy. We had to move a tent like 200m higher which was better but still a lot of people. This view is worth it!
Marek — Google review
Only paid 35k to access this view point! I drove from Probolinggo using Yamaha Fazzio (125cc) easily did the climb (no need for 4wheel drive car or manual bike). Didn’t have to pay 220k/320k for Mt Bromo as didn’t actually go onto volcanic sand or hike the crater. So for foreigners that only want to see the lookouts, you only pay one entrance fee. This was a practice run as started my drive at 9am as wanted to miss the sunrise crowd and see if my bike could make it before driving again at later date at 3-4am in the dark lol
Marcus J — Google review
Awesome viewpoint. Worth it. Great views. Find a quiet place a bit further up and away from crowds. Magical. Must see?
Kevin M — Google review
Great spot to see Mt. Batok and Mt. Semeru during sunrise. To visit Mt. Bromo, you'll need to go down the caldera to see the crater which you can do outside of a tour. It can get really crowded so try to arrive at least 30 minutes before sunrise to get a good spot. If you climb a bit higher, you'll find quieter areas away from the crowd where you can enjoy the view in peace.

Cemara Indah Hotel offers unpretentious rooms in a humble escape with a focus on tranquility and natural beauty. The hotel provides a splendid view of Mount Bromo and Mount Batok, making it unnecessary to venture up the mountain for breathtaking sights. Guests can enjoy delicious homemade banana pancakes and scrambled eggs at the restaurant, along with great coffee after a sunrise hike around Mount Bromo.
The view is very spectacular.from cafe we can see gunung batok, bromo, widodaren

This hotel is a great and strategic location if you're planning to have a Bromo tour since it's near Mount Bromo. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the view of the mountain from the lodging, too. They offered great hospitality during my stay , and one of it was packed up our breakfast as we were late for it. Food from it was also nice and tasty. Besides, you have access to small stalls and cafes near the hotel. There were shops selling supplies for hiking activities as well, so you can buy/rent it for your planned activities. However, the room was quite small, and the hot shower did not work properly. Even so, I enjoyed my stay here as the staff offered great hospitality.

Dirty, damp & smelly. We left after one night, even though we already paid for the second night - I believe this says everything. The location doesn't make up for the negligence..

Stayed here back in 1999. And my 10th visit was last week. They have added new rooms. Some rooms are good...some not so To the owner...if you are reading this Please dim down the lights at the side where we can see Mount Bromo and Gunung Batok. It's too bright and not good for photographers It's called light pollution You have a good location...that's why I stayed here for the last 25 years Your restaurant hasn't changed much. It's a pity there's a new buildings in front of your hotel.

Cemara Indah Hotel offers breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Bromo in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, making it an ideal choice for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Located in Cemoro Lawang village, this hotel provides easy access to the park's stunning landscapes and attractions. Pros: Panoramic Views Enjoy spectacular views of Mount Bromo and the surrounding landscape, perfect for sunrise and sunset viewing. Clean and Basic Rooms Rooms are generally clean and comfortable, although basic in amenities. Delicious Local Cuisine Sate and Keropok are must-try dinner options, showcasing local flavors. Convenient Location The hotel is surrounded by eateries and cafes, offering plenty of dining options. Cons Basic Amenities Some amenities, like hot water, might be limited. Room for Improvement Some guests have noted areas for improvement in room cleanliness and maintenance. Overall, Cemara Indah Hotel is a great choice for those prioritizing proximity to Mount Bromo and Tengger Semeru National Park's natural beauty. With its stunning views, decent rooms, and local dining options, it's a solid option for travelers seeking an immersive experience in this Indonesian national park.

The reason why most chose to stay at CI must be the location. Make no mistake but I do not have any serious complaints about the room. They are clean z& comfortable. I would wish that they improve the hot water pressure as bathing in the chilling weather can be a challenge. The back of the hotel offers a panoramic view between Bromo & King Kong Hill & you can enjoy the sunset from here. If like me, you can hike (about 2 hr) from the hotel to King Kong Hill for the sunrise. The complimentary breakfast is decent & you can order food from hotel kitchen through the day but if you prefer, there are some F&B establishments just walking distance from the hotel. Staff are also friendly & nice. & if you want to walk to Bromo, the track is just beside the hotel but do watch out for horse shit because the horses take this route.

For day 2, we recommend exploring the north side side of town. Start the day off with Teletubbies Hill Bromo, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to King Kong Hill. All together, your day would be filled with about 10 hours of non-stop fun.

Teletubbies Hill Bromo is a must-see tourist attraction in the Bromo Malang area, offering an ideal spot for capturing stunning photos and admiring the beauty of Mount Bromo and its surrounding green hills. The well-maintained green grass fields provide a refreshing atmosphere, making it perfect for leisurely walks or horseback riding. While it can get crowded, especially near Pasir Berbisik, arriving early offers a chance to capture breathtaking views with clouds hovering close by.
Very beautiful scenery. Although the journey to the hill is very tiring. It's paid off once you reach the hill. I highly recommend if you tour Bromo to come to this Teletubbies hill. Hopefully I can come back here.

Went there for the first time in 2014, it was still empty and pretty natural. But last time on July 2022, there were a lot of improvement, such as big signage, and some economic activities from the locals, such as paid photoshoot, snacks and hawkers, and many more. That was good, but i thought it was dirtier than before. Such a consequence. View from there is super awesome, it's green when it's rainy season. But if you visit this place on a dry season, better use your mask and sunglasses, because the sand could hurt your eye and respiratory. Overall, all is good and i got no big issues.

Bromo Hillside in Malang is a popular destination known for its diverse natural attractions, including beaches, mountains, and forests. Visitors are advised to plan for more than a day to fully experience all that Malang has to offer. Mt Bromo offers stunning views and is recommended for visits from August onwards when the weather is cooler.
Views include a superb mountain range and it's fabulous skyline. Though it is quite a hike to reach the spot, the results will blow you away - guaranteed. Outstanding dishes for an affordable price. Totally recommended.
Cordelius M — Google review
Perched high above the plains of Malang, Bromo Hill Side promises panoramic views of Mount Bromo, surrounding peaks & the golden savanna beyond. The sweeping vistas at sunrise are indeed breathtaking & the welcome drink plus snack—typically warm tea or coffee with a small potato fry or crispy treat—adds a comforting touch upon arrival . Yet beneath this serene impression lies a thread of polite reservations that echo through numerous guest accounts. The entrance fee is disproportionate to what is offered: a single hot beverage & one potato fry or snack feels insufficient for the price charged. Although the management markets it as a full experience, the value does not quite stack up . Complaints extend to the infrastructure, where garden lighting is dim or some non‑functional & the safety railings or paths made of metal & stone show signs of damage or disrepair, from woods, raising concerns especially after dusk when visibility declines. Cleanliness also poses a challenge, as observed litter left on floors—discarded wrappers or cups that visitors fail to dispose of in bins. This has led to a sentiment that staff need to act more proactively & visitors require clearer reminders to maintain shared spaces. While the toilets are generally deemed safe & comfortable, but the water dispensed is often icy cold & tissue supplies may run out without prompt restocking . Viewing conditions are another matter of luck. When fog or darkness looms, the otherwise magnificent panorama disappears entirely behind mist, leaving disappointed at inconsistent visibility. This unpredictability makes sunrise viewing feel like gambling with the weather rather than a guaranteed reward . Food services: orders are closed quite early in the late afternoon—typically by 5 PM—so guests arriving later may find dining options inaccessible. This added time constraint often undermines the enjoyment of an otherwise scenic visit . The villas & apartments on the site have potential for group stays. Visitors envision gatherings of friends or family staying overnight to take advantage of the elevated views & fresh air; however, nearly all emphasize that better upkeep & improved services would be necessary to match the expectation suggested by the setting’s elegant marketing. Despite these drawbacks, Its praised the majestic ambiance & photogenic landscape, describing the experience as memorable—just tinged with frustration at what falls short of the price paid. With enhanced maintenance of infrastructure, clearer visitor guidance regarding cleanliness and food timing & a better-aligned service offering, Bromo Hill Side could more effectively justify its premium appeal.

wow bro this place is pretty good, I had a really good experience visiting this place, the service is quite great, the waitresses were very nice and polite. And for the rooms, they're all clean and neat, but I think we need the restaurant wider cause it's just a little small. The choice of location is pretty good, the scenery was very beautiful, gorgeous and let's just say breathtaking. This place is surrounded by many kinds of flowers that makes the air feels so fresh and not only the surrounding flowers, this place is placed in the middle of Bromo? Correct me if I'm wrong, but seriously there's no regret for coming to this place. Oh, and a small tip, the foods tasted good but not that good, I can say they tasted basic.

The location is undeniably beautiful, right on top of a hill and not far from Teletubbies Hill. It was very cold and cloudy when I arrived. The staff weren’t particularly friendly, though they did help with the luggage. I arrived an hour early (on a public holiday) but there was absolutely no flexibility for early check-in. At least the café was open to wait. The café itself is stunning with almost 360° views. However, prices are on the expensive side, the food was mediocre, and the service was extremely slow. Orders came one meal at a time and it took almost an hour for the full order to be completed. Now, the room: I paid almost MYR 1,800 for the Mahameru T Room, and it was the worst experience ever. The hot water was inconsistent, and worst of all — there was a rat in the room. I reported it via text to the front desk, but they simply read the message and never responded. No one came to handle the issue. We had to spend the whole night anxious, worrying about being bitten. The next morning, when we raised it again during breakfast, they apologized and offered us a slice of cupcake as “compensation.” For the price I paid, this was insulting and completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, my deposit refund took a week, and only after I followed up with them. 👉 Overall, this place is severely overrated. The experience was frustrating, the service disappointing, and the management unprofessional. I will never return and cannot recommend this place to anyone.

Puncak B29 is a popular tourist destination known for its motorbike trails that lead to the top of the peak, offering breathtaking views of mountains and clouds. The place is ideal for camping with ample space available on the top. Visitors planning to ride their bikes should ensure they are well-prepared and cautious while riding. The nights can be chilly, so warm clothing and a portable stove would come in handy.
I think this is the best spot to watch Bromo mountain! If the sky is clear, you can see the mountains, savannah, the hills which were so mesmerizing. The access to go there was quite difficult therefore there aren't still many people there, which makes it even more perfect to enjoy the magnificent view
Marina M — Google review
Nice view. You can park yor car and go with motor taxi for IDR 100,000 to Bukit Bunga, this place havw better viee than puncak B29.

Amazing amazing view, but torturous journey to get there. We started off at midnight at Surabaya and drove 4 hours. There are folks with motorcycles that will bring you up. We paid idr 200,000 per driver that covered three points. Make sure to bring a windbreaker, heat pack and wear an additional layer, morning is normally close to single digit and freezing but the view is totally worth it

Amazing place. Had been going there in 2014 from noon until the next day to discover Milky Way belt in the night, sunset in the evening, and sunrise in the morning. If you wanna go there, make sure to bring thick jacket because in themorning you will see water frozen.

Have you ever seen a paradise on the earth?. I highly recommend you ro visit this place. "“It's truly a paradise on earth!” Puncak B29 familiarly, known as Negeri di Atas Awan (Land above the Clouds). It is the area B-29 where visitors can see the other side of Mount Bromo. It is a good place to take panoramic photos and Instagram able with Mount Bromo at the background. The absolute best time to visit Puncak B29 is at sunrise. As for the season to visit  Puncak B29  during dry season. The dry season in Java. It is between April to October
Mukhlis M — Google review
Amazing place to visit you can take your bike to the top. There are wide enough area on top to camp If you want to go there using your bike, please prepare your bike and please be carefull. For visitors prepare yourself for the strong, cold night breeze. You can bring your portable stove to cook something and thick clothes to warm yourself. Sometimes annoying people revving their bike and disturb the others visitors who wanted some serenity.

Negeri di atas awan. If you lucky you can see a cloud reach your feet. This place have a beautiful view. You must come here in early morning to see sunrise. To reach this place you must ride a motorbike. But if you drive a car you can park your car in the parking area and go there by OJEK. You need to pay IDR 75.000 to go B29. But i recommend you to go P30 first. This place is higher than B29 and you can see Bromo mountain from here. You need to pay IDR 150.000 to go P30 and B29. But this rate is not for holiday season. Dont forget to bring your jacket and gloves. Maybe you need to bring face and hand lotion. Because its really cold in there. It makes my face and hand become so dry. After that go to B29. But you can ask the driver to stop by at food stall to have some tea or coffee or maybe instant noodle. Ps. Dont drinkt too much. They have a restroom but usually its closed. So it will be a problem if you want to pee. Or you can ask people at car park area to go to their restroom before or after go to P30 and B29.

King Kong Hill, also known as Bukit King Kong in Indonesian, offers a stunning view of the famous Bromo Tengger Semeru. It's a popular spot for tourists to witness breathtaking sunrises and sunsets without having to hike or climb stairs. The area can get crowded during peak hours, but visitors can easily access the viewpoint. Some choose to arrive early with a guide and enjoy local treats like fried bananas while waiting for sunrise.
Came to this place inside a jeep. The temperature about 15c with 10kmh wind. It will be cold especially when one have to wait for the sun rise from midnight. There are vendors selling souvenir. Remember to bring beanie, windproof jacket, gloves to keep yourself warm.

Very very beautiful. For someone who have time, let’s go here at 4am to see the sunrise, the eruptions of semeru mt. You guys can bring the breakfast and enjoy the breakfast with the awesome view point. Sometime a little busy, but you guys can found some nice spot without people. Totally worthy

There are thousands of Jeep around in this small road leading to King Kong hills..SO.. u have to walk a bit if u come early.. I think it should change their name to (Super jeepers hill) . The weather is around 12°c..cold..so u should have something to protect coolness.. A lot of small coffee shops.. There are toilets.. They scenic and picturesque of Morning sunrise and beautiful Kawah Bromo will made you say luckily i made it even though you have to go there starting middle of the night between 1.00am..
CHONG K — Google review
The best place to see Bromo at sunrise! Start the walk around 4 a.m. to beat the crowds — the earlier, the better. If you keep hiking up, you’ll find fewer and fewer people along the way. We were also really lucky with the weather. Totally worth walking in the dark to witness the sunrise afterward.

A great hike with a very short steep section requiring a little climbing to get up to King King Hill from the lower viewing points. The zig zag path has no railings, so do be careful and take it slow. It was worth the effort!

Came here in the afternoon instead of the morning sunrise. Good part is there's no one here and we have the whole place to ourselves. I personally feel that the sunrise trip is a bit over rated. Unless you have never woke up to see a sunrise, coming here after 10am in the morning is actually pretty quaint and beautiful

Kusuma Kitchen is a charming restaurant located in Raya Bromo, offering a delightful dining experience from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. The menu features delectable dishes such as Rawon, Cwie Mie, and Sate Ayam. Visitors have praised the cozy ambiance and affordability of this establishment.
I gotta tell you guys, this place is awesome! The vibe is so chill, it's a super comfy, quiet, and cozy spot to just hang out. And the food? Seriously, the food is so good! I tried a bunch of stuff and almost every single dish I tasted was perfect for my friends and me. The prices are totally fair too—I felt like the price was really worth it for the quality of the food and the amazing service. Definitely coming back here!

Pretty nice cozy restaurant super close to bromo. We had some local Indonesian food which tasted nice but lack protein. The chicken sate was cold.

Came here for late dinner and it was packed with other tourists who were heading towards Bromo area. Tried the Hong Kong style fried rice and crispy samosas to go with it. Waited a while for food to be served but they accepted credit card if the bill was more than Rp100,000

The food was okay. There aren’t many places to choose from in this small town, but this one definitely looked like the best option. We were six people eating here every day for about two and a half days, but the food wasn’t great. If I had to recommend something from what I tried, it would be the Javanese fried noodles.
Emilie N — Google review
Great food and very cheap. It looks like the nicest restaurant in the town, but it was still about $2 for a soup or chicken and rice. Super friendly staff. Everything was delivered with a smile by everyone. Try the black beef soup. Very good also im fan of singaraja beer over bintang. Good music, relaxed and warmer than the other restaurants. The manager was great

This place seems unfairly lowly rated. We ate here many times over the course of our time in Cemorolawang, and it was always a nice experience. Perhaps some reviewers came during big rushes of tourists…while we were here it was mostly empty and relaxing (we were not on a tour). The food is reasonably priced even though the place is new and touristy; the WiFi is free and functional for working; the staff is quite friendly and helpful. The restaurant did once take a while to bring pancakes, but everything else came out in a timely fashion and with ample portion size. Would recommend (and also…not a lot of other choices nearby).

Don’t know why people come to Bromo to eat western food. But the Indonesian dish were excellent! I ordered a mango sticky rice for dessert but they were out of mango so got a banana sticky rice instead. That’s new! I should have stock to Indonesian for the dessert too..

Madakaripura Waterfall is a stunning natural wonder located near Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in Indonesia. This 200-meter tall waterfall cascades down the walls of a lush, cylindrical canyon, creating a mesmerizing sight. Surrounded by verdant jungle and impressive rock formations, it offers breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere. According to local folklore, it is believed to be the meditation site of Gajah Mada, an esteemed figure from Indonesian history.
It’s rather challenging to get here but it’s worth every step and your time! It’s really breath-taking and beautiful. I was in awe the entire time I was there. It’s quite risky but don’t worry, the local guides are very professional! They’re also good at taking photographs. Do bring a reliable raincoat as well as wear proper sandals for an enjoyable experience.
Edrie B — Google review
We had a great time visiting Madakaripura Waterfall! I came with my two kids and was pleasantly surprised that it was pretty kid-friendly. The track is beginner-friendly and manageable, though there are a few slightly tricky parts – nothing too difficult, especially with a guide or some help. The scenery is breathtaking, and the waterfall itself is stunning. The water is clean, clear, and refreshing. Just make sure to bring raincoat – you will get wet! 🌿 Even if you don’t, the locals also sell it. One tip: bring some cash and wear shoes that are suitable for trekking and okay to get wet – you’ll definitely need them. A wonderful nature adventure for families!
Sheila J — Google review
Fyi, you’ll be amazed seeing this view. I’ll suggest you to come between June-August because the guide said that it was the most beautiful moment to visit waterfall. I gave 5 stars for the services, the cleaness and ofc for the hospitality. My guide was Pak Uyik, he’ll help you to cross the stream and took a lots of photos. Thanks for the experience Madakaripura! I’ll visit again between that months so, I can get a better view 🫶🏼
Nuringtyas S — Google review
You’ll read a lot of scam about the place. In fact we really had to pay 150 k rupees per person (around 8 euro) for a short motorbike ride to the rainfall and got helmets and a local guide who brought us to the place. The money was more than worth it! You’ll get really wet, prepare!
Jonas H — Google review
Very beautiful and unbelievable. At first we just walked but when we noticed it was far away we just get a guide, and dont let them force you to pay huge money on guides if you dont want to pay it. (it is probably not mandotory but after a hard negatitonship, we just take the guide anyways because it was far away to walk.) Definitely bring sliper or open shoes and some raincoat or smth. But after all, it was worth to see.
Muhammed Ö — Google review
An absolutely breathtaking view, truly the most stunning waterfall I’ve ever witnessed. The journey to get there was fairly manageable. The hike was around 30 mins from the locket, with mostly flat tracks, a few shallow river crossings, and a couple of mild inclines. Nothing too demanding, especially with a guide and safety gear like helmets provided. Important tip: always check the weather forecast before your visit. When it rains, access to the waterfall is strictly prohibited due to the serious risk of landslides and flash floods. It’s better to postpone your trip than to put yourself in danger.
Dwi F — Google review
From the parking to the base took 5minutes ride by motorcycle. Then, 30mins hike to madakaripura waterfall We could only spent an hour because we arrived late.. We reached there around 3.45pm. entrance closing time 4pm.. But less crowd and easy to get spot for photo.. The water was really cold. Superb nice waterfall, will come early next time. Worth the visit.

Definitely one of the most amazing waterfalls I've ever seen in my life and I've seen lots. Truly a majestic sight for the eyes ❤️✨ The trekking is very very easy for a beginner and kaum rebahan jaman now. But the steps to the waterfall were quite slippery so tourists must be careful. In my experience, the entrance, guide, helmet and ojek fee was reasonable and the local people there were quite friendly and polite. We paid for IDR 410,000 total for 6 pax. Before we left, we had lunch in "warung makan mbak anis" and it was definitely the highlight of the day. The sambal was top notch, everything was as requested; they spicyness and everything. Then we had a whole coconut as a dessert which put the cherry on top to the whole experience of visiting Madakaripura. Recommended 😊😍

This is one of the best waterfall I visit in Malang. The waterfall (Coban) is in deep valley of Bromo mountain. They called it Rainbow Waterfall, because in the noon, the sun ray is reflected with the water from the waterfall and created beautiful rainbow if you come in the certain time. But regardless of the rainbow, the view is breath-taking! If you visit Bromo National Park, you can spare your time to visit this. It’s only 15-minutes trekking to the waterfall!

On the way back from our Bromo tour we were able to stop at this place. The walk downhill to the waterfall takes about 20-30 minutes and is mostly downhill. The waterfall is beautiful and has a rainbow in it when the sun is directly shining into it. You can take a motorbike transfer for 20,000 one-way or 35,000 both ways. Be aware that you still have to walk 5-10 minutes to the waterfall up and downhill from where the motorbike stops. Beautiful stop!

15 mins walk from entrance to waterfall. Local price is 15k and foreign 20k. Beware while trekking, my wife fell twice🫣 The waterfall look nice but the water is so dirty. As i went nearer to the water to dip my leg, it’s all muddy water. There is no place for u to shower and enjoy the waterfall. Only sight seeing to those who love nature. I would rate this place 2/5.

Coban Pelangi Waterfall Coban Pelangi is a waterfall located deep down in a gorge. The location is near the mount Semeru and one has to travel down a steep and well marked track for about 20 minutes (30 minutes to return) to reach the spectacular sight of water falling from a height of 110 metres. They say it offers a rainbow sight but that’s possible only when you are there at the right time when the Sun rays fall on the misty waterfall. Mostly people miss the rainbow show like I did. This site was the last item on my itinerary for the day. I started from Malang in the wee hours as the sunrise at Mount Bromo was the first thing to catch up with. Walking up to the rim of a roaring Bromo was a wonderful experience. After that we traversed the savannah and finally went to Coban Pelangi in the afternoon. The track is laid in concrete steps and rest shelters are provided along the way. A visit to this waterfall is recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip.

I came here on September 4, 2023. The place is so quiet, the waterfall views is very beautiful, there is a playground for kid, there are local people selling foods and beverages on the way to the waterfall, and the price is affordable. From entrance gate you need to walk about 30 minutes to the waterfall. If you go to Bromo mountain from Tumpang, Malang, I highly recommend you to visit this place ✌🏻

Super nice. Looks like a nice spot to camp if you have the equipment and are into that sort of thing (plus you would be nice and close to Bromo for a sunrise that way). We stopped on the way out from Bromo on the way back to Malang. Pressed for time, so we were glad you could ride down most of the way with the moto. They keep the area nice and clean. The pathway down is impressively all patio stones. Nice to walk or ride. The waterfall is a spectacular horse-tail style drop of about 30 meters.

Breathtaking view, already provides toilet, mushola and selfie park. Notice that this waterfall is really far down there, you have to walk about 1 km down and go back upstairs. So, this place not recommended if you bring eldery people or a baby.
Khansa P — Google review
The place is nice. It took around 30 - 40 minutes walk to reach the waterfall. This waterfall is located near Bromo Mountain. For tourist there are many hostels nearby to stay for the night and rest after all the tracking in the nature.

Ranu Kumbolo is a stunning mountain lake nestled within the picturesque Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java, Indonesia. Spanning 18 hectares, this secluded lake serves as a campground for climbers embarking on their ascent to Mahameru. The crystal-clear waters of Ranu Kumbolo complement its natural surroundings, creating a truly enchanting atmosphere.
Memories in 2016 poping up because I once hiked with my deceased bestfriend. Semeru with its peak called Mahameru is one of the favorite mountains of the people on the Java Island, and Ranukumbolo Lake at 2.390mdpl/masl is a favorite of almost all climbers. Enjoy adventure, hiking, camping, and enjoying the perfect sunrise against the backdrop of a painting-like valley lake. If you are lucky, you will get the sunrise, but sometimes the fog is very thick. Four hours walk to conquer around 12 km long trail from Ranu Pane, it all pays off with this amazing view. The best time to visit is from the end of May until the end of August where the sun is in the northern hemisphere so there is no rain in this area as well as most of Java island.

Ranu Kumbolo is the most beautiful hiking spot I’ve experienced so far. The trek is easy with 4 resting posts along the way, and the lake view is truly breathtaking. I was lucky to see Mt. Semeru erupting in the distance, and at night the sky was so clear that I could see the Milky Way. An unforgettable experience, highly recommended for anyone who loves hiking and nature! 🌌⛺️🌄

The best sunrise moment I’ve ever experienced! Near freezing temperatures at dawn, so water of the lake is vaporizing. I want to give a thousands of stars to review this place as much as this place gave to me.m but google only accept max 5 😂 Well, as a nature lover, this place is such a very beautiful paradise. A very magical lake in a volcano, a very beautiful present you’ll receive after 6 hours climbing. Ranu Kumbolo is good to everyone whether they’re old or young, as long as you have a good physical condition, you’ll reach that place. When the nights come and the skies is clear you’ll see a lot of stars above your head, and if you’re luckier, you’ll see milky way with your own eyes. And when you wake up from your sleeping bag, get out from your tent, it will give you a very magical and beautiful sunrise that will goes up between the twin hills. I think a day is not enough, you have to spend 2 or 3 days in Ranu Kumbolo for the best feeling. And don’t forget to bring yor jacket, cause it’s about 5 degree celcius in the midnight! Thank you Ranu Kumbolo! Hope to see you soon!

The hidden paradise of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The fatigue after 5 hours from Ranupane will be paid off by seeing the beauty of the lake. The phenomenal Tanjakan Cinta is here.

Magical place , fairy land, where you can feel all the awesomeness of nature around you. The mist which covered the surface of the lake as it's slowingly fading away as the sun rises , and it's warm wind during the day , makes you want to stay longer in this place. If you can live without internet and love the sound of nature , then it's a perfect place to be during the weekend of April to the end of october.

It is beautiful lake I have ever seen. Nice place to get refreshing and release all of daily activity. It has beautiful landscape, but unfortunately, many hiker obey to the environment. Many trash over there like plastic noodle, mineral water bottle, cigarete, plastic and many others. Many hikers do not care to these environment, so, that make bad scenery. My suggestion is please take care to ranukumbolo environment. Do not leave anything garbage. Take your trash back down. Keep ranukumbolo to be the most attract holliday lake destination.

Pasir Berbisik, also known as Whispering Sand, is a captivating tourist spot located in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Situated on the east side of Mount Bromo Crater at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, this desert area earned its name due to the sound created when strong winds cause the sand grains to whisper. The dry season is the best time to experience this phenomenon.
The sand will make sound when the wind is strong so that's why the place is called whispering sand. Soft sand and quite shiny. Beautiful mountains surrounding this area. Only jeep and motorcycle can enter this place.
Noorzidah N — Google review
Pasir Berbisik, which translates to "Whispering Sands," is a well-known sandy area located within the caldera of Mount Bromo in East Java, Indonesia. It covers an expansive area of over 5,300 hectares on the eastern side of the crater. The name "Pasir Berbisik" became popular around 2001, largely due to the Indonesian film *Pasir Berbisik* (Whispering Sands), directed by Nan Achnas and starring Dian Sastrowardoyo and Christine Hakim. The film tells the story of a village girl named Daya who often lies on the sands and hears "whispers" from the moving sand, which inspired the poetic name for this area. In 2024, the management of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park decided to remove the name "Pasir Berbisik" along with several other tourist spot names, reverting to the original local names as part of an effort to preserve the cultural heritage and natural environment of the area.

Hiking area
Mount Bromo, located in the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park in East Java, Indonesia, offers a breathtaking adventure with its challenging yet rewarding ascent to the crater. The entrance fee for Indonesians is around Rp30,000 per person while foreigners have different pricing. The expansive landscape and awe-inspiring crater create an unforgettable memory. Visitors can hear the volcano's sound and witness a majestic sunrise.
Mount Bromo is an absolute highlight for nature lovers and adventurers. The breathtaking landscape of the Tengger Semeru National Park offers a spectacular panorama that is particularly impressive at sunrise. The view of the majestic volcano with the bank of clouds and the surrounding crater landscapes is simply unforgettable. The climb to the viewpoint is a bit strenuous, but it is definitely worth the effort. The fresh morning air and the shimmering light make every step an experience. There is also the option of hiking to the crater of the volcano - a real adventure! The culture of the indigenous Tengger population adds an additional dimension to the visit. Overall, Mount Bromo is a must for every traveler in Indonesia - a place full of beauty, mysticism and unforgettable impressions! Highly recommended!

Bromo – What an Amazing Experience! Mount Bromo was honestly one of the coolest things I’ve done in Indonesia. If you don’t feel like paying for a pricey tour or the expensive entrance fee, there’s a little trick—just head to Cemara Indah Hotel. Between the buildings, there’s a small path that leads into a forest. Follow it down and you’ll eventually reach the sand area, which seriously looks like a savanna. It’s beautiful and feels totally out of this world. From there, you can start the hike up to the crater. Halfway up there’s a staircase that takes you to the top, but don’t just stop there! If you walk along the rim on either side, the views get even better—and it’s way less crowded too. If you’ve got the time, I’d recommend waiting until around 10:30 or 11 AM to go up. Most of the tour groups are already gone by then, so you get to enjoy the whole place with a lot more peace and space. Such a fun little adventure—and honestly, not that hard of a hike. Definitely a highlight of my trip!

we did a tour that included watching the sunrise from a viewpoint, exploring the caldera and then hiking up mount bromo. it was one of the highlights of our 6 weeks in Indonesia. I highly recommend doing it (including sunrise) - if you have your own scooter you can also easily do it on your own

The classic route of sunrise is at the top of Bromo itself. Can get the full moon and sun under the same frame, great to be here. Relatively quite compare to the “popular” sight seeing spots around the villages opened after 1995.

I made the journey to Mount Bromo as part of a jeep tour from Malang. Weather/cloud cover for sunrise can be unpredictable. The chance of rain is lower in the am than in the afternoon. Short walk in the dark to the viewing area. Torch or flashlight is very handy! The initial section is pavement bricks, then a wee steep section to a dirt path. Stay on dirt path, avoid following others, like I did, who tried to scramble up the hill. A warmer coat and hat are important as waiting in the wind for the sun to rise can get chilly. Locals will rent you coats if you forget or are without. We had a full moon to add to today's bwauty.

During the holidays I went for a walk with my sister to Mount Bromo, leaving the house at 4 pm arriving at the Bangkalan mosque, the Maghrib call to prayer, my sister and I stopped first to pray Maghrib until Isak, after Isak prayer my sister and I continued the journey after arriving at Tangkel stopped at a stall to buy food after eating continued the journey to Malang and arrived in Malang at 12 at night after that stopped at a friend's house to rest. then woke up for Subuh prayer after Subuh prayer finished to leave for the location arriving at the location my sister and I took pictures first then went around while enjoying the journey. the place in my opinion is incredibly cool and there are those who sell beautiful edelweiss flowers the price is quite expensive, there are also many food sellers the price is quite expensive but delicious.

it was an amazing experience, beautiful scenes. usually you will start your journey at 2am-3am with Jeep to sunrise view. lot of jeeps and traffic always happens . it took about 90min to reach sunrise rest area. most of the road are smooth but some areas are very rough (not recommended for people with back and knees issues) when you reach to rest area, you can rest at coffee shops and drink coffee and relax and wait for sunrise please wear warm clothing. it is very cold and windy. temperature is not the killer but the wind is. there are lot of locations to see sunrise with Mt bromo backdrop. so choose or ask your guide before. because later difficult to change location due to many people and packed. just my opinion enjoy the sunrise and take photos later because after sun come out it will be more pretty with the Mt bromo backdrop. careful with where you stand some places are very dangerous and just inches away from cliff. and always check weather sometimes if you are unlucky you will not see anything when cloudy days. P.S the town that you will rest before going to Mt bromo sunrise is pretty cool and chill. try to explore if you can. many cool cafe and restaurants.

The hike to bromo was very cool, but it wasn’t as awesome as Ijen. We flew to Surabaya, trained it to Probolingo and caught a grab at 12am to a town at the base of bromo. The hike was super easy and the view was pretty awesome, though the best bit was getting bikes into the caldera and seeing the plumes of Sulfur.

Pura Luhur Poten Gunung Bromo, situated at the base of Mount Bromo, is a sacred site for the Tengger Hindu community. Ranu Pani village is the starting point for hiker who wants to climb the Semeru mountain. Situated on high altitude cause this place is very cold. The people are very welcome to the visitor. When I live here, I learn to become vegetarian. No meat serve on table, we eat near the stove and the kitchen is the gathering place nor the living room. People call it "gegeni" or sitting near fire to warm the body. The village has beautiful scenery. There's a lake name after the village. It's a very nice place to live in. You can also help the local people in their field to harvest crops. Really great experience, far from cityscape turn to landscape.

Ordered the fried chicken and soup with mixed vegetables, sausage and chicken. The fried chicken was really delicious. It had a great coating and was fried well. I enjoyed the soup. It was quite peppery but it was nice to have a good variety of vegetables. The prices are set on the menu which is great as there’s no possibility of being scammed. The food was good but the service was poor and there were dead flies on the table, so it loses a star

This was definitely my worst restaurant experience ever. The service was horrible. When I asked politely if I could order, the response was an offensive “what?!”. The staff was obviously making fun of us, right in front of us! They were pointing at us followed by hysterical laughing. It made me very uncomfortable. When I thanked the waitress for delivering the food I got a anoyed face and no response at all. The tables were dirty. Ashtrays were all full and smelly. Please take my advice: go somewhere else!

Place is clean. But all the workers in there are really bad. We have to scream just to call them to coming. And theres one menu that not coming bcs they dont even wrote what we wanted. The food was not so good. Unfriendly staff. And the parking area are the worst. When we got out of there our bike wheels are broken, no air left in the wheel. The only good thing is price and theres a beer in there

The 1st time we went we never managed to get the attention of the waitress, more interested in her cellphone than her work, so we left after 15 minutes. The second time, she comes, no hello, nothing, we asked 4 meals, 3 of which they didn't had. We asked what they have then, she didn't even bother to answer our question. What a way to run a business... We left and she seemed pissed, non-sense...
