SchafbergBahn is a charming railway that offers a delightful journey to the summit of Schafberg Mountain. The bright red vintage trains provide an excellent photo opportunity as they chug up and down the mountain. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from the top and explore various pathways while savoring refreshments at the cafe with outdoor seating. It's advisable to pre-purchase tickets online and select boarding and returning times in advance, as well as being prepared for a 30-minute ride each way.
A nice experience! Pricey (€56.50 for a round trip per person), but definitely worth it. It takes around 35 minutes to get to the peak. Beware of usually colder weather there. Also, the tickets are sold for a specific departure time (return trip can be re-booked at a terminal in the restaurant on the mountain). Along the road you’ll see picturesque countryside, beautiful hills and, if you’re lucky enough, some wildlife. Restaurants uphill are pricey, so, if you are tight on a budget, get some food with you.

Unique cogwheel railway to fantastic mountain-top views. Cafe and restaurant at the top and also a kiosk (cash only, very reasonable). Trains are booked so that everyone had a seat - afternoon trains were fully unbooked, so maybe go up later if you want to avoid the crowds.
Mexikoi — Google review
👍🏻 Great experience and I think it is the best option compared to other trains in Austria. 👍🏻 The train route up and down is beautiful, allowing you to see the entire Wolfgang Lake. 👍🏻 Upon reaching the summit we were able to see very impressive views of Wolfgang Lake and other nearby lakes. ⚠️ It takes 35 minutes for the train to climb to the top and also descend the same time 35 minutes. ⚠️ In my opinion the train is a great experience for children more than adults. ⚠️ There is an overpriced adult ticket for €56 while the child ticket is €17 We request those in charge of the train management to reduce the price of the adult ticket to not exceed €35 The price is a bit reasonable. ⚠️ It is preferable to book tickets at the counter because there are discount offers because I booked online and found out that I have a discount card from the hotel, but I did not benefit from it because I actually paid. ⚠️ Restaurants and toilets are available on top. ⚠️ Always try to sit on the side overlooking Lake Wolfgang. ⚠️ Scan the ticket code on the parking lot when the final price appears and you will get a special discount, I know this by chance from the counter ticket and they don't tell anyone about it. ⚠️ Don't rush down from the top as many do, try to spend an hour to an hour and a half there to have fun and walk & For hiking lovers, I recommend staying from two to two and a half hours because there is a very beautiful and exciting trail on the edge of the mountain. ⚠️ Electronic Portals For going up and down programmed on the time set so it is not optional and you should pay attention to it. ⚠️ The location of the station is located in the Wolfgang Center and you can enjoy a walking tour that will have great views and many options of cafes and restaurants.
KHALIFA A — Google review
The trip was really great! 🌄 We bought train tickets and went up, stopping at the first station to hike to the top (about an hour’s walk). The trail is quite challenging and better suited for experienced hikers, but the views along the way are absolutely stunning. At the summit, there are breathtaking views and a nice restaurant, though a bit pricey. The place is suitable for families, but not if you plan to stop halfway and hike. We took a return ticket after about 3 hours – that’s a bit long if you’re not doing the hike, so keep that in mind. The attraction itself is quite expensive, but it’s definitely a special experience worth doing once.
Ortal K — Google review
Longest cog railway in Austria. And needed during the ride up the mountains. Very well maintained. Nice hall for the tickets. The ladies at the counter were patient n the condescending manner, possibly with gritted teeth. The website is very good with options. However you need to be very precise with when you want to travel and come back which we couldn’t do as we were driving and wanted to flexible. Anyway don’t let my comments detract from you not taking this railway through beautiful countryside. I did meet someone at the top whom had walked up….. this would have been great too but the knees

Very nice memories on old travels by train. Beautiful views on lakes during travel up to hill. It is better to be here early to book appropriate time. Parking are various and expensive close to starting station. Everything is it unforgettable.

Pizzeria Ristorante Mirabella is a cozy and comfortable restaurant with colorful, attractive decor and excellent service. The staff is very pleasant and helpful, making the dining experience delightful. They offer gluten-free pizza and desserts, catering to various dietary needs. The pizzas are generously topped and perfect for sharing, while the lasagna is described as the best ever had. The restaurant also offers a pet-friendly environment with a dedicated play area for kids.
The restaurant is amazing the staff were friendly and or waitress had genuine simple and greets everyone the pizza is delicious and the salad is fresh I don’t consider it as expensive rout

One of the most delicious pizza I've ever had you could feel how fresh ans good quality the food was made from!!! And the workers are so nice, with clean and good smelling toilets, Danke!

Decent food at decent prices. We sat on the terrace which was very small and cramped. We ordered a Romano pizza, mixed salad, and focaccia, all of which were just okay and quite salty. Just a heads up that you can order a ‘mini’ size of any of the pizzas. Service was fine as well.

We decided on a pizzaria for a break and this place was marvelous. The pizzas were easily large enough to share with plenty of toppings. My lasagna was the best I have ever had. Served molten hot with lots of cheese. The antipasta was excellent as was the garlic bread. It was economical as well though that was a mere bonus. We ate at night and I believe the antipasta for two is only served in the evening Very friendly too.

Excelente Pizzaria at the famous Salzkammergut area. Very friendly environment and staff. Pet friendly and kids friendly, has a wonderful corner with lots of toys. The children can play safely, meanwhile the parents can have a very good pizza or pasta! I will go again, if I visit St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut again.

Bäckerei Konditorei Café Gandl is a highly recommended coffeehouse with excellent pastries, friendly service, and affordable prices. This delightful café offers an array of delicious cakes, as well as aromatic coffee and delectable hot chocolate. It is a charming and intimate establishment that serves scrumptious treats. Overall, Bäckerei Konditorei Café Gandl is a delightful place to indulge in tasty desserts and beverages.
If you are in the town, you must try this local café.All kind of bakeries where so yummy that made us fisit again. Also ladies serving were so kind and polite but they close too early at 5:00 pm. Don’t miss the apricot cake and the pistachio cake.

The bakery looks good from the outside, but upon walking in, we were served by a short-haired lady with bad behavior. There was a noticeable difference in how she treated Western customers compared to us as Asians, which raises questions about her attitude. She even refunded a small charge by throwing the coins at us.

A nice Cafe, Bakery Pastry shop, located in the center of the city, with a nice atmosphere and simple decoration , the staff are helpful with a nice smile. They have nice fresh cake and pastries you can have it with fresh coffee.

Stretching around ten kilometers from east to west, the lake is dotted with towns like St. Gilgen, St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut, and Strobl, each offering traditional architecture and abundant outdoor activities.
Personally think this is one of the prettiest lakes in the area with beautiful mountains. Great walking and bike paths around. Definitely recommend taking the cable car up the mountain. Was absolutely beautiful views up and down with the restaurants at the top!

One of the biggest lakes in Austria. The place is really beautiful and ideal for walking or chilling out with friends. There are couple of stores available around the place to serve all visitors. Car parkings are available. The weather there are amazing specially now in falls time.

Has very nice views especially on your way from Salzburg to Galgein . You can take an electric cable car (which we paid 31€ _discounted for students). The view at the top was a bit foggy at that time ,hence we couldn't get the views from the highest point.4 stars koz we missed the views from the top!

Wow this lake is beautiful. We walked clockwise from St. Gilgen for 7km towards Falkenstein, with a fantastic scenery over the lake and sorrounding mountains. We took the ferry back for a pleasant ride.

Beautiful trail next to a beautiful lake, it is absolutely worth going there. There are benches along the path, so it can be convinient for older people as well. There is no parking lot near the entrance, but we could park our car on the street. The shore is not covered with sand but with rocks, however it is a very popular place to swim during summertime.

A beautiful and free trail that starts along the lake and continues around a hill in the forest. You can walk and return along the lake, but it is recommended to do the entire loop.

I recently had the most incredible panorama walk around the enchanting Wolfgangsee in Austria, and I can't wait to recommend it to everyone, especially families! This picturesque journey was an absolute delight, offering a breathtaking view and crystal clear waters that left us in awe. From the very start, the beauty of Wolfgangsee captivated us. The serene lake surrounded by majestic mountains created a postcard-perfect setting. As we embarked on the walk, the well-maintained trails and easy terrain made it ideal for families with children. Even with little ones in tow, the walk took no more than 1.5 hours, which was just the right amount of time for an enjoyable outing. As we strolled along the path, the panorama unfolded, revealing stunning vistas at every turn. The shimmering lake mirrored the sky above, reflecting the cotton candy clouds and the verdant landscape. It felt like walking through a fairytale, a harmonious blend of nature's wonders. One of the highlights of the walk was reaching a strategically placed viewing platform. From there, we were treated to an unobstructed view of the entire Wolfgangsee, stretching as far as the eye could see. It was a moment of pure magic, and we couldn't resist taking countless photos to capture the memory forever. The best part of this family-friendly walk was the chance to immerse ourselves in the soothing atmosphere of the lake. We stopped at a few points to dip our toes into the crystal clear water, feeling the refreshing chill against our skin. The kids absolutely loved it, and their laughter echoed through the surroundings. Throughout the walk, we encountered other families, couples, and individuals, all basking in the tranquil beauty of Wolfgangsee. It was heartwarming to see people of all ages appreciating nature's wonders together. As we concluded our panoramic adventure, we couldn't help but feel grateful for the unforgettable experience. The Wolfgangsee panorama walk had left an indelible mark on our hearts, and we knew we had to share this gem with others. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend the Wolfgangsee panorama walk to everyone, especially families seeking a short yet rewarding excursion. The 1.5-hour journey offers an amazing view that will leave you in awe of nature's splendor. The crystal clear waters of the lake provide a perfect spot to cool off and enjoy moments of sheer bliss. So, pack your bags, bring your loved ones, and get ready for an unforgettable experience amidst the breathtaking beauty of Wolfgangsee. Trust me; this is a must-visit destination that will create cherished memories for a lifetime.

Very nice walk around Wolfgangsee with a lot of places where to go into the water itself. At the end of september was the Lake little colder, but still swimmable and it was a nice refreshment. 🏊‍♀️ The walk itself was very mild and some views were impressive. The further part of the Path was walking us around some factory, so this part was not that nice. It took us approximately 1 hour by slower speed. Definitely worth to go around! 😇

What a nice circuit! Very easy and beautiful. Water is so blue! You can find a lot of places to swim.

See-Eck is a charming restaurant in St. Wolfgang that offers an excellent dining experience. The emphasis is on local products, and the food is both innovative and delicious. The menu, handwritten on a blackboard, features a few options for each course and the friendly staff are happy to explain it to you. The restaurant offers superb food with carefully cooked local and fresh produce by Bernhard while Brigitte ensures great service as the hostess.
This upscale restaurant impressed me with its elegant ambiance and delectable cuisine. Despite the higher price range, the quality of the food and impeccable service from the friendly owners made it worth every penny. The unique touch of a changing menu on a blackboard, coupled with the waitress's translation into English. The beef and the ragout on main dish was my personal favorite. Highly recommended for a tasteful and memorable meal.

We had a truly wonderful experience at this charming family-run restaurant in Wolfgangsee. The husband-and-wife team behind it pour their heart into everything — from the warm welcome to the beautifully prepared dishes. The food was absolutely delicious, made with fresh, local ingredients and so much care. As someone with a gluten intolerance, I was especially grateful for how accommodating they were. They thoughtfully adjusted several dishes for me, ensuring they were completely gluten-free without compromising on flavor or presentation. It’s rare to find such genuine hospitality paired with outstanding food. This place is a gem — cozy, authentic, and full of heart. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the area, especially those with dietary needs. We’ll definitely be back!

We have visited this restaurant several times over the past few years and it never fails to provide an excellent experience. The food is superb, while Brigitte is a warm, welcoming and friendly host. The emphasis is on local products, and the food is both innovative and delicious. The menu is on a large blackboard with a couple of options for each course, with Brigitte on hand to explain the menu. They also have a very good wine list. As it was warm we were able to sit outside with views to the lake but the interior is also very pleasant. Our meal was delightful, so we actually dined there twice in the same holiday and enjoyed it just as much the second time. This is indeed fine dining in St Wolfgang.

Extremely offensive and antisemitic service. We came in, we were asked where are we from. Answered Israel, and from this moment the lady in the restaurant was extremely rude to us. We sat down waiting for her to take an order. She took the order after asking us if it’s normal of us to order just a cheese platter without anything to drink. A few minutes after, we switched a table (in a totally empty restaurant..), and were asked to leave, for no real reason. I asked if there is a problem. Didn’t get an answer. I said I do not understand what’s going on. The lady just said she understands the problem and kicked us out. I have never been kicked out in such disgrace just because of my origin. Vey unpleasant and disappointing.

Cortisen am See is an upscale lakeside hotel that offers stylish accommodations, a private beach, a spa, and a trendy restaurant. The hotel's architecture and design provide a welcoming atmosphere. The attentive and friendly staff go above and beyond to provide excellent service. The cuisine is elegant and flavorful, offering a delightful dining experience. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with stunning views of the lake and mountains. Guests can enjoy the luxurious shower and bath facilities as well as the amazing pool.
Spent a fabulous 5 nights at this stunning hotel. We have stayed in many luxury hotels over the years but the detail and service at Cortisen Am See is incredible. Quality interior design, luxury toiletries, every room is provided with a quality bag containing beach towels to take to the lake where you can borrow a paddle board and where the staff are attentive in checking if you need any drinks etc. To have a 25m indoor pool in a smaller hotel was a treat and it was truly a stunning space. The views from our room were stunning, the breakfast outstanding with a fabulous evening service in the restaurant. The owner, Roland and his wife took time to find out what we liked to eat before recommending some local eateries which didn’t disappoint. We were in Austria to celebrate the fact that my husband and I both turn 60 this year. We both have many special memories to treasure from this trip and have already recommended it to friends. My only recommendation would be for menus to also be provided in English but it wasn’t a big deal once we discovered Google translate and there was always a member of staff available to help us out. 😁

Our stay at this hotel was nothing short of perfect. The view from our room overlooking the lake was absolutely stunning — waking up to that serene beauty each morning was a dream. The breakfast was a real highlight, with an impressive variety of choices to suit every taste. I especially appreciated the freshly squeezed juice — such a thoughtful and refreshing touch. The spa area was phenomenal — beautifully designed, tranquil, and the perfect place to unwind. The overall style and art throughout the hotel were simply amazing, with a tasteful blend of elegance and creativity that gives the place a unique character. The staff went above and beyond — always friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to help. The location couldn’t be better: peaceful yet central, with easy parking available, which made everything hassle-free. Highly recommend this gem for anyone looking to relax in style while enjoying the best of what the region has to offer. We’ll definitely be returning! P.S. they also kindly accommodated my gluten - allergy, serving gluten-free bread and making sure dinner dishes could be adjusted accordingly as well.

Had a fantastic two night stay at this boutique restaurant right by the lake. Adults only means it’s a calm relaxed vibe and the friendly staff make sure that you have everything you need. We had a lovely room with a lake view and balcony. The bathroom is spotless and modern and comes well equipped with Molton Brown accessories. We liked the beach bag with extra towels for lazing by the pool. Special mention for the owner/manager Roland who was super helpful in organising our last minute stay and gave some great recommendations for alternative places to stay when he couldn’t fit us in for a couple of nights and recommended a lovely restaurant for lunch in Wachau. Will definitely stay again.

My stay at Cortisen am See was absolutely wonderful. The location right on Wolfgangsee is breathtaking, and waking up to those lake views felt magical. The rooms are beautifully designed, the food was excellent, and the staff made me feel truly welcome with their warm and attentive service. A perfect mix of comfort and luxury—I can’t wait to come back!

Beautifully located hotel, the view from our room at the lake and surrounding mountains was priceless. As guests, we felt very well taken care of - by very nice and helpful staff and very friendly owner. From start to finish everything was perfect during our stay! It was a pleasure to start the day with delicious breakfast and enjoy our time in elegantly decorated interior of the hotel. We're sure to be back there soon.

Our stay at this hotel was exceptional-everything, from the rooms and location to the employees, breakfast, pool, massage services, and gym, truly beautiful. The only area for improvement, surprisingly, is the hotel's photos:) They simply don't capture even half of its beauty; it's far more beautiful in person! What impressed us most was the attention to every detail, from the carpets and artwork to the books and furniture. Nothing felt rushed or overlooked. Despite encountering unlucky weather during our visit, we were never bored. It makes me wonder just how magical a winter stay here would be!

Oh, what a relaxing week again at Cortisen Am See. We return here year after year. The service is excellent, and the owners are always ready to help whenever we ask tips for our daily plans. Breakfast and dinner on the cozy terrace, swimming directly from the hotel’s own pier in the crystal-clear lake or in the hotel´s own infinity pool are always wonderful expriences. The hotel's location is fantastic. It provides access to a wide range of activities that Wolfgangsee and its surroundings offer. Thank you, Roland and Sari, we surely will come again.

Come here!!! A wonderful, family run Hotel, right on majestic Lake Wolfganesee... Fantastic location; short walking distance to many lovely/popular attractions & places to eat. The Hotel provides a huge, indoor heated lap pool, nice gym, and a delightful, cozy restaurant/bar with BREATHTAKING views, with both indoor and outdoor seating. GREAT food. To a person, the staff is VERY friendly and helpful. Lake room views have private wooden patios. They have stunning, peaceful vistas... Roland, the proprietor, leads the way with his staff with an old style warmth, and charm. (Very helpful and responsive to queries as well). A spacious, perfectly manicured, emerald green lawn adorns the front/lakeside of the Hotel. The rooms are uniquely decorated and well appointed. I've traveled the world for 40 years. This is only the 2nd location I've been to where the pictures can't capture the beauty. Highly recommend!!

The restaurant prides itself on using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients to create exceptional dishes. Guests rave about the delicious starters and perfectly prepared ribeye steak. The warm and friendly atmosphere, along with attentive service, adds to the overall dining experience.
We visited dSpeis after the recommendation of our airbnb host - and we are incredibly happy we took her suggestion! Everything about this place was top notch. The ambiance and service is great and the food is to die for. We had the ribeye and the creme brulee, both will be on our minds for quite a while.

A really great experience! An ox fillet was one of the best steaks I've ever eaten and creme brulee was delicious.

I had a mix of mangalitza, grilled fresh fish filet, 1/2 lobster tail and fresh cooked veggies ,potatoes/herăstrău, and chimichuri. Everything was excellent.

We came here a year ago and loved it, but this time was very disappointing. We tried calling three times with no answer, and when we arrived at 8:30 p.m., we were told the kitchen was already closed—despite the website showing it should be open and the place being half empty. When we asked what time the kitchen closes, the answer was “when the last reservation arrives.” Customer service needs serious improvement.

I am not the biggest of steaks but wow the steaks were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Even the sides were phenomenal.

It is the best restaurant that we have been. Steak is very nice and fresh. We'll never forget this place.
