Argegno in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Argegno, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Argegno is a small village on the western shore of Lake Como, known for its stone houses, narrow lanes and a historic bridge over the Telo stream. Its lakeside promenade and small harbor offer classic Lake Como scenery, along with ferry connections to nearby towns such as Como, Bellagio and Menaggio. From Argegno, a cable car runs up to the village of Pigra, providing wide views over the lake and surrounding mountains. The town also makes a convenient base for hiking in the Valle d’Intelvi and exploring quieter parts of the lake.
With favorites like Greenway del Lago di Como, Pizzeria - Ristorante Lido di Argegno, and Ponte Nuovo Telo, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like La P'Osteria and Il Gelato di Zoe so you can get the best taste of Argegno while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Historic Walking Areas
Greenway del Lago di Como is a picturesque 10 km trail along the western shore of Lake Como, perfect for leisurely walks and family outings. The route starts in Colonno and ends in Griante, passing through charming villages like Sala Comacina and Ossuccio. Along the way, hikers can admire baroque churches, traditional Italian architecture, and beautiful lakeside gardens.
Great experience, the views are incredible and the towns are just brilliant, definitely worth it. I started the way around (from Tremezzo) and I was a little bit confused with the signs around the path and got lost, I imagine doing the right way is also better. Google maps doesn't have the entire trail here, worth doing some web searching through other pages that do have it. I also add a photo of the signs all around the path that will guide you. Don't expect a sign per meter, they are really a few but just to remind you you are on the right path, they are fine. During the trekking you will find places to bathe in the lake, really really important if it is summer. If you give up at any part of the trip, try to find a bus or a ferry near where you are. For example there is a bus working all weekend that leaves you in Como city.

Nice walking trail which includes parts to see above or right next to the lake. Beautiful view, historical buildings, drinking water possiblies, restaurants, swimming possibilities are included.

This is a great hike on mostly paved walkways BUT my husband and I are fit, completed this entire walk in 2ish hours. It definitely has hills with some more strenuous parts. Plenty of viewpoints for rest though! If you want to make this more of a stroll, it will take 3-4 hours. You can begin at different points if you do not want to do all 7ish miles! Be warned haha
Integrate I — Google review
Great Hike !! Day 1 we started in Lenno after getting off the Ferry. Stepped onto the Greenway Trail, followed the signs heading North and hiked to Griante or the end of the trail. You can go further and sidewalk tour the Old Villas towards Menaggio but roadwork prevents you from getting through to Menaggio. Day 2 was a longer day, hiking to the start of the trail from the Lenno Ferry and back. This part of the trail is better marked, but a bit more challenging as you climb higher into the villages and enjoy Grand Vistas. A tasty Panini and Gelato is well deserved on the return leg. Va Bene

The perfect stroll for the day when you forget your hiking shoes for more serious trail :) Amazing views especially when the path climbs up away from the lake, Griante to Colonno with pizza/beer lunch break takes easy 5 hours
ThePolishTraveller — Google review
Beautiful place, and the walk. You can really enjoy places, views and the atmosphere. Path is quite easy, but I think without a children’s trolley.
Maciej C — Google review
Day one we started in Cadenabbia and walked to Lenno, returning to Cadenabbia. Day two we took the ferry to Lenno and walked to Colonno before returning. The way is well-marked with metal medallions in the path or signs at turns. We enjoyed seeing staid mansions, bustling commercial corners, statuesque churches, quaint villages and lively playgrounds- with the grand Lake Como in the background. Walking proved to be a great way to see the range of how people occupy this gorgeous part of Italy. Near Colono the trail medallions are more scarce.

Amazing walk along the west side of Lake Como. The views of the lake are fantastic as are the incredible houses and villages you walk by.

Such a fantastic place with the friendliest staff. We rented a boat to tour the lake and docked for free at the island. The view and atmosphere are very hard to beat, and the food was delicious and refreshing. Give yourself a couple hours at least to have a proper time of your meal.

Mountain cable car
Transportation
Stazione a valle - Funivia Argegno-Pigra is an exhilarating cable car ride that covers a 648-meter altitude difference in just four minutes. The journey offers breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains, making it a must-try experience for travelers. The cable car operates with two 12-person cabins on steep slopes, providing smooth and scenic rides. At the top, visitors can explore Pigra, a charming hilltop town with stunning panoramic views.
Pigra is beautiful little village with a lot of character, with lots of symbols, drawings, photos of cats scattered all around the village. The views are incredible from up there. Only problem is parking at the bottom near the entrance to the cable car. Entrance is fairly cheap - well worth a visit.
Pendar P — Google review
Great trip up nearly 1000 meters to a lovely quiet little village with fantastic views out over lake Como.
Andrew J — Google review
Pigra is a great place to hike, even with smaller children. The path downhill is steep but doable with children above 6 years when they wear good shoes. The walk in the forest has no increase in altitude and is a nice walk in the shade of the forest. Cheap and good Cappuccino in many of the small restaurants in Pigra
Benjamin S — Google review
Worth to go there if you’re around. It was inexpensive and you have a nice view from the top.
Rafał P — Google review
Very nice trip with the cable car. Atm open daily 9-18. You can pay card/cash. Takes 3-4 minutes to the top. Enjoy the nice views of lake como. Go up, walk around the village take the cable car or bicycle down.
Frida R — Google review
What an experience and what a view. The trip up takes around five minutes and offers unparalleled views over the lake and surrounding area. Pigra, a small hilltop town, is worthy of exploring and your time. The cable car does nt rock and offers a smooth journey. If you're not good with heights face towards the mountainside, as it is steep, reported as steepest incline cable car in Europe. Staff were friendly.
Carl B — Google review
Easy way to get up to the top of the mountain to the town of Pigra and look down on Lake Como and the town of Argegno. There is no parking at the base of the cable car so it's best to park in the town and walk to the cable car station which is about a 5 minute walk along the road which has very narrow walking areas.
Dc — Google review
€4ish return trip. Fits about 10/12 people with a little spare room but 8 comfortably. Quick ride up, 8 walks when you reach the top. We did walk 4 and had stunning views of the lake. If you'd like a drink or a bit of food there is a cafe/restaurant at the top of the funivia which looked nice (never went in as we didn't need to) and prices seemed fair.

Ponte Nuovo Telo is a picturesque spot located in Argegno, a charming village at the mouth of the Telo stream. The village is divided into two parts: the lakeside and the old nucleus. The ancient stone houses built along the Telo create a scenic atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for a leisurely stroll. Additionally, there is a road bridge leading to a turn towards the church with nearby parking available.

Scenic spot
Belvedere di Pigra offers a stunning viewpoint over Lake Como and the Valle d'Intelvi, making it accessible even for less experienced hikers. Visitors can take a quick cable car ride to reach the charming village, where they can enjoy pleasant walks and breathtaking views. The area is relatively quiet, especially in September, allowing for a peaceful experience. A leisurely stroll through the woodland leads to an impressive vista of Lake Como with clear views of the Bellagio promontory.
Relatively easy walk to the view point, only €5.50 return trip from the cable car to the town, walk takes around 10-15 minutes through the forest. Only thing that spoilt the view is the Pylon
Thames L — Google review
A breathtaking view of Lake Como after only a simple 5 minute walk through beautiful woods. A little muddy but pays off big!
Phil H — Google review
Beautiful view over the electricity grid lines of Como with the lake in the background.
Stefan S — Google review
A relatively easy ramble through woodland reveals a fantastic viewpoint over the lake, with the Bellagio promontory clearly visible. Shame about the pylons however you can still enjoy and be wowed by the beauty of the lake. The easiest of all the Pigra based walks, and one that allows you to experience the area even if not up to more robust walks.

La P'Osteria, named after the old post office of the village, is a charming restaurant specializing in local fish, meat dishes, and homemade desserts. Situated in front of Argegno's Roman bridge, it offers a taste of dolce vita. Additionally, it provides small apartments for holiday rentals in a tranquil setting. The restaurant boasts excellent service and delicious food with a wide selection of wines. Guests praise the friendly staff and recommend making reservations due to its popularity.
Nestled in a quaint town outside all of the hustle and bustle of Como, this is a great dinner spot o wind down from a busy day. If you are American the portions might be smaller than what you are accustomed to but the food is excellent! We all had the 4 meat ragu pasta dish and it was delish. I could’ve eaten two plates of it - although 50% more of the dish would’ve been enough for me to be fully satisfied with the meal. We were still hungry after we left 🥲 However, I think if we had ordered an appetizer we might have felt different! Suggestion to the restaurant: play music in the restaurant that is more relaxed. Don’t get me wrong, I love Queen but not when I am enjoying your fine cuisine.
Lauren P — Google review
Service was fine but a bit confusing with four different waiters. The antipasti starter was good and flavorful, ragù bianco and fish were solid choices. However, the fish dish felt somewhat plain, adding a bit of sauce or some vegetables with the potatoes would greatly improve taste and presentation. Overall a decent experience.
Alexander S — Google review
We dined here twice. Both times the food and service were excellent. We were greeted by a warm host who made us feel right at home. I tried the veal and the fresh pasta with porcini mushrooms - delicious!
Celine D — Google review
Good food serving local wines. Have a very nice outdoor seating. ( some reviews complain about not having a lake view, though you can see that obviously when you map out the location so boo on those complainers) the outside is next to the bridge and Mountain View. I found the food refreshing and light. I enjoyed the service.
Rebecca M — Google review
The service was absolutely excellent – attentive, authentic, and full of charm. The location is fantastic. Dinner was unforgettable: both the fish and the steak were prepared right at our table, with the fish expertly filleted and beautifully served. Even the caffè shakerato was shaken and served directly at our table – something I’ve never seen before! A unique and memorable evening. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you for this wonderful night!
Toni G — Google review
We had the slow cooked lamb and lake fish. Delicious. Not huge portions (we added a side of veggies) but perfect for us. Lovely views, next to a trickling creek, and the staff were friendly. The food took a little longer than usual in Italy, but still pretty quick. The wines were only by the bottle and no house option so we went without.
Simon S — Google review
Good food, service disappointing. Lowpoint is getting only half glass of red wine because bottle is empty. Waiter is aware of this but does not decide to open a new bottle, but to let it be and still charging full amount. There is only one way to deal with this kind of bad service, and that is to get it online. Other guests, which seem to be friends, got all the attention. So it is not a place for (non-Italian) tourists.
Mark — Google review
Terrible food, service wasn't great at all. Food was pre-cooked. Not very tourist friendly, abrupt. Wine was okay not bad not good, no alcoholic beer which I thought was strange but not exactly going to ruin my night. I ate and left never too return, I think there are places that deserve your money much more than this establishment

There are tables to sit at inside. Parking can be a challenge, and the local police do check for proper parking stub in the window and proper parking within a spot. Booked this place few months back before I travelled from London. Spoke to a lovely lady who took my booking. We got the ferry from Como Lago and spent the day here. At first I was thought €25pp was a lot but the view, pool ,music & staff it was definitely worth it.

Camilla B — Google review
If you are trying to find an oasis of pure awe, you should give this lido a chance: there is a nice pool, but if you feel stubborn you can always give the lake a try. You can have also your lunch, or your little glass of prosecco thinking about the meaning of life scanning the waves, thinking then that life isn't so bad. If you sunbath, remember to use solar screen. Might be a little pricey buuut worth the shot.

Lovely restaurant with very lovely and accommodating staff! We arrived upon opening time with no reservation and they were so lovely to fit us in. I don’t eat much so my husband and I usually order a meal to share and they so graciously split the meal onto two plates which has never happened to us before! One of my favorite spots on earth. Cannot recommend enough. Get the lemon ravioli! Non-negotiable. Then enjoy the trout and any of the other wonderful dishes but get the ravioli. Bucket‑list checked, five‑star magic. Seated lakeside in a gentle, warm rain, every moment felt cinematic. We savored impeccable sea bass in citrus‑kissed sauce, melt‑in‑your‑mouth lamb chops with mint, and the refreshing, subtle presence of gin. The service was attentive yet relaxed, letting us linger over each exquisite dish. Words fail me. I’ve never experienced something so harmonious, so lovingly crafted. This isn’t just dining; it’s an emotion. Thank you for an evening that transformed a birthday into a memory for the ages.
