Coquelles in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Coquelles, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Coquelles is best known as the French terminal for the Channel Tunnel, making it a convenient base or stopover for trips between the UK and mainland Europe. Just outside Calais, it offers easy access to wide sandy beaches on the Opal Coast and the dramatic cliffs of Cap Blanc-Nez and Cap Gris-Nez. The large Cité Europe shopping centre and nearby outlet stores draw visitors for cross-border shopping, dining and entertainment. From here, you can also quickly reach Calais’ harbor, museums and World War II sites.
With favorites like Channel Outlet, La Croissanterie, and Majestic Wine Calais (Coquelles), we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like FLUNCH CALAIS COQUELLES and La cantine japonaise so you can get the best taste of Coquelles while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Cité Europe is a popular shopping center located in Coquelles, Pas-de-Calais. The city gained prominence due to the Channel Tunnel, which serves as its entry point. Tourists can explore various shops within the city, catering to the daily influx of tunnel users. Additionally, visitors can savor classic French cuisine at the on-site restaurant and bar. For those seeking an authentic experience, the Centre Ville offers a more genuine taste of local culture.
This epic landmark shopping centre a few yards from the channel tunnel and a couple of miles from the ferry is thirty years old this. Good selection of dining options. Is fully wheelchair accessible
Steve C — Google review
Great to dive in for a few bottles before the tunnel but a bit massive and overwhelming. No doubt though to shopping enthusiasts it is heaven! Plenty of parking and the dodgy wandering pairs of would be migrants common a couple of years ago seem to have been discouraged.
Steve G — Google review
Plenty of shops and eateries. Good bargains but you do tend to spend more overall. 20% tax refund on certain items if you're returning to UK within 30 days (I think). Shop staff should be able to tell you.
John C — Google review
A fantastic huge shopping mall, filled with lots of interesting shops, and free parking, shopping trolleys are available in the carpark just like in the supermarket at home, but don't indicate what coin is required, however a 2 euro coin worked well enough though.
Mark ( — Google review
To be honest, for me it's one of the nicest and cleanest mall in France. It's a large one with a wide variety of shops to have a great shopping experience 🛍️ ☺️. I would say the most common international brands have a store in this Mall. From Zara to Primark. I really enjoyed my experience there with so many choices. The parking is easy to access and park. it's a nice place to have dinner or lunch 🍽️ with different type of restaurants. Nice job!! U would highly recommend this mall.
Youssef — Google review
I will not be going back to Flunch! Other shops are nice, mostly the same chains as everywhere else in France, except for the Artisan shop, an unexpected gem in the middle of the dross: real unique handcrafted pieces by local artists, some truly brilliant, such as the stunning chess set made of recycled industrial and mechanical parts. But we made the mistake of trying lunch at Flunch, for a French experience, and that was a bit of a culture shock: the service was mostly poor (not enough staff), the starters included watermelon served with cheese (yuk), and the water looked dirty. However, the steak was actually good quality and tasty, to be fair.
Esther R — Google review
Large shopping spaces and seating areas, toilets are clean and tastefully designed with lots of space. Great food court and lots of variety. And the kids can stay all day, entertainment are endless and fun. Ample parking two levels for you to choose, great mall...
Jered G — Google review
We thought it was an excellent shopping centre. Looked smart, easy to navigate through, good varieties of shops available, massive car park, and the design of the outside of the shopping centre looks apart too. Be aware to take the correct exit on the motorway otherwise you risk to end up in the lorry bit for boarding euro tunnel like we did but if you do don't panic there is a roundabout just before customs :)

Terre De Boissons is a remarkable wine store that not only offers an impressive variety of wines but also boasts an extensive collection of beers from around the world. One striking feature is the affordability of Icelandic beer, which is much cheaper compared to Reykjavik. Although they have extravagant glassware priced up to 60 euros per glass, one cannot deny their appeal to beer enthusiasts and wine connoisseurs alike.
Great place to shop. So many brands and friendly helpful staff. Nice to sit and relax with your favourite beer or glass of wine.
Tim B — Google review
Essentially a wine warehouse inside Cité Europe shopping mall, on floor -1, located by the restaurants. The staff aren't interested in your presence at all, it seemed as though we were more of a nuisance to them. However, the wine is very reasonably priced and there's a great selection, set out by region. You can also purchase spirits and many different types of beers.
Gary B — Google review
Absolutely useless if you plan to shop tax free despite mentioning it at the entrance window! Selected over £100 of red wine shop was empty three cashiers sitting down none of them could be asked to fill tax free form, great way to do business! Avoid if you expect any customer service! Other wine shops nearby offer much better customer experience.
Sebastien B — Google review
Best selection of scotch in Calais. I feel they are trying too hard to stock something of everything, rather than specialising in fewer wines with better deals. Why so little Cremant? With carrefour a hundred yards away, it must be tough, but well worth a visit.
Jeff R — Google review
A bit pricey, but a wide selection of drinks on tap. Plus the food looked amazing.
Luke H — Google review
Had just marvelled at the wine and beer selection in Carrefour when I spotted this place. Vast choice of wines but what struck me was the vast world beer selection. Icelandic beer was far cheaper than in Reykjavik ! I resisted the giant glassware up to 60 euros a glass but might be back. Suit beer lovers and oenephiles. There is a small bar for degustation in the middle of the store.
David H — Google review
Probably the greatest ranged retailer of beer paraphernalia but at the cost of a specialist shop rather than booze cruise prices. The range of ales and lagers is unparalleled on this scale however the hypermarket does more generic beer at a better price. It’s the same unit as Tesco used to be in. Beer on tap is very reasonably priced and bar snacks are good. Try to only buy niche beers here as other suppliers are cheaper.
Anthony S — Google review
Favourite shop... ever! So many different types of alcoholic beverages from all around the word! Most of them at an affordable price too. (Great for xmas/bday shopping)

The Channel Outlet is a must-visit for travelers arriving from the Channel Tunnel, offering a wide range of well-known brands such as Adidas, Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, Quiksilver, Tommy Hilfiger, and Lindt. Visitors can enjoy great deals not typically found in UK outlets. The center features various boutiques including Banana Moon, Nike, Kidiliz, IKKS, and Galeries Lafayette. Additionally, there are food stalls and cafes available for refreshments.
This shopping center was a pleasant surprise! It was clean, and there was plenty of free parking, making it easy to find a spot. The variety of products was very good, and I found some unique items. The prices were competitive, and I even found some great deals. Overall, a great shopping experience!

Cheaper in the UK, only worth it if you spend more than £100 and claim back the tax. Not worth it really.
Fx L — Google review
Quiet, almost empty, not many branches but still good for shpping, enough parking space and clean
Shirin S — Google review
Nice clean area with nice high range shops could do with a perfume shop in there tho, parking was easy there too
Piggyturbo1983 — Google review
Unfortunately half of the building is empty with shops such as Nike no longer there.. It's also not really an outlet, for some shops they have mostly normal collection with a few outlet deals. Don't expect large discounts either. Probably will go back to trying the Ashford outlet after crossing with Eurotunnel, as this was not worth our time anymore.
Jasper V — Google review
Great selection of outlet stores, a good quick alternative to going all the way into Cite Europe. Brilliant activities set out for kids to enjoy as well

Majestic Wine Calais (Coquelles) is a fantastic retail destination for wine enthusiasts, offering an impressive selection of wines by the case as well as individual bottles, alongside beer and spirits. While it may not boast the extensive range found in some local supermarkets, it provides great value for money. A tip for visitors from the UK: be sure to bring plenty of cash, as this will help you save even more on your purchases compared to using credit cards with exchange rates.
Excellent service. Ordered online prior to travelling so enjoyed the free Eurotunnel crossing. Service in the shop was excellent - my order was already on a trolley ready to go when I arrived. Wines are the same bottles/vintages as in Majestic UK but obviously significantly cheaper. Auchan is just around the corner so can top up on French delicacies there prior to returning!
Daniel E — Google review
Decent selection of wines from different countries, however there is room for improvement to increase the variety. Good offers when you travel to the UK as a lot of prices here are lower than in the UK. Friendly and helpful staff, overall definitive recommended. Will come again.
Christoph H — Google review
I was put onto the trip to majestic wines Calais by a friend and the whole experience from web to pick up was just awesome, so easy, I turned up at the store staff were friendly and had my order ready and waiting. Plopped it in the car and i was away, absolutely effortless. Store was clean and tidy and a fantastic range of wines and beers.
Tim R — Google review
Good value, although doesn't have the range of some of the local supermarkets. The wines have both € and £ prices on them. As the £ prices were better value, I asked to pay in £ only to be told that they only accept cash payments in £s - I didn't have enough to cover my purchase so ended up paying more in €. So if you plan on visiting them from the UK, make sure you take plenty of cash to cover your purchases as it will be cheaper even than using a perfect exchange rate credit card.
Matt H — Google review
Were happy to stay a little later than 19:00 to let us hover up some good deals. Pretty much the same wines Majestic do in the UK, so easy to try beforehand. They need 3 days to have your order ready, and there is £10 off each £150 if you do pre order (as of Aug 2019).
Antony W — Google review
Came back having called enroute to Belgium. Good selection of wines. Often at a better price than UK. Area to sample wines. Definitely recommend. Staff all great, and welcoming.
Ann A — Google review
Brilliant service, Good range. Helpful charming staff. Plentiful convenient parking. Great prices. All round five stars would be appropriate but all this is spoilt by follow up moronic email marketing spam which they seem unable to stop sending, despite saying they have and apologising, so best shop somewhere else if you want to avoid being mercilessly bothered by unwanted junk mail.
Jonathan H — Google review
We pre-ordered our wine here for our wedding. It was all waiting for us when we arrived. Couldn't be easier! I would recommend anyone get their wine from here. Very helpful staff and you can try any wines you like.

My 12 year old is absolutely in love with Flunch! In his words, the greatest dining experience ever! Food is excellent prepared. Coupons also help! It’s the only place to go for families. Please come to Canada!
Daniel J — Google review
A nice Flunch restaurant, first time trying in Cite Europe shopping mall and it wasn't bad. Went just after 6pm for the dinner serving and it was quite. We had the chicken dinner with a choice of vegetables and sides. The place looked clean and had plenty of seating space. Recommend for a light meal, lunch or evening dinner.
Pravin M — Google review
First visit. Took a bit to understand the menu (my limited French to blame) but once I figured out the main meal with unlimited veg there was no stopping me 😀. Patient and helpful staff got me through. Service with a smile and a Bon Appetit. Sliced gammon was delicious and the extensive hot veg buffet was quality X2 👍🏻. 2 mains with drinks €25 - couldn't eat a drop more. (Was too hungry to take a photo).
Alan M — Google review
This was a return visit this year and we arrived before the normal dinner time rush. Everything was available and we all enjoyed the differing dishes we ordered. For anyone who has not used these before you take a tray walk around the entrance way and pick any extras to the main course you may like ie Drinks or pudding, Order your main meal at the till and pay for all. Find yourself a table take your tickets to the chefs who cook you meat etc for you then help yourself to extras like veg, rice, various potatoes etc. If they give you a buzzer plate wait until it lights up then go and collect your meal from the chefs. Water and ice are available from the machines as is tea and coffee with free refills.
Robert W — Google review
Just wanted to say thank you for wonderful service! Lady at the till was lovely and she spoke English to us. We ate at Flunch in Rennes the night before and we have both agreed that this place had much nicer and tastier food, much cleaner tables and staff was very nice. So well done!
E J — Google review
I had heard about Flunch and wanted to try this experience. It was very hard to work out what you were supposed to do. There were no instructions or guides or explanations, and staff were not willing to help. The kids menu was easy enough to figure out - there's a little kid sized machine and you select your main, dessert and drink and it prints out a little ticket which you take to the till. For other food, you take a tray, cutlery and any starters/desserts/drinks and pay, and you order your main from the options shown on the screens above the tills. They move pretty fast, but we managed to figure out what we wanted. If you are having dishes that are cooked in bulk, then you get a printed out ticket, and if you are having food cooked to order, you get a buzzer. Some of us ordered burgers and we were asked how we wanted them, which was great. You then collect your food either with the ticket or with the buzzer, and help yourself to water, and sides. There were mixed veg, spinach, frites, mash, salted new potatoes, okra, ratatouille, amongst other options. We also noticed that adults with moules could take their empty bowl and full bucket of empty shells and get a refill of moules if they wanted! This made it FANTASTIC value. No way we could have had more! They also had icecreams which had very interesting flavours.
Toddy P — Google review
Usual great value, but the wine was a bit more pricey than I'm used to in their southern restaurants.
Steven E — Google review
Two 3 course meal for 2 people cost us 35 euros and it was very good.

The food was absolutely amazing, the ramen was perfect and the service was great! Such a nice moment, the decor makes you feel on vacation, a taste of Tokyo without traveling! Thank you so much!
Andrea A — Google review
We have tried Tonkotsu ramen and Kare udon. Tonkotsu ramen was marginally better than the udon. None of them were actually that great. Kare udon had pieces of chicken in it that smelled a lot like fish so either they were cooked together or kept frozen together. The decoration in the restaurant was nice.
Krishanu D — Google review
A nice Japanese restaurant to eat after shopping in the mall. Food is priced well, not too expensive. Special mention to the Takoyaki. 6 pieces for only 8 euros! Served fresh and hot, still crispy. Octopus inside the dough was not too small. Tonkotsu ramen was nice, especially the broth. Eggs perfectly half boiled as it traditional. Egg sushi a bit disappointing, not traditional. Egg not cooked in the proper way, but still tasty. Overall a good experience.

I can recommend this place. The food is of good quality. Its reachable by foot (10min walk) from the F1 Hotel . They have an all you can eat buffet. Its well presented .The ambiance was a bit loud as it was quite full with guests. The service was ok. Should I be again in Calais I will come back.

Dave E — Google review
The food is amazing, you have a large range of dishes to select from. If you choose to go for uncooked food and have it cooked by the chef while you watch, it's so tasty. I would highly recommend this place.
Susan L — Google review
The food in this place is absolutely abysmal. We're astonished that they have such a great variety of terrible-tasting food. The sushi was basically non-existent, as the trays were almost always empty. The wok part wasn't wok, the cook just boiled the ingredients, then mixed them with a sauce in a wok pan for literally <10 seconds. They even managed to make the fried stuff taste gross, which is an achievement I would say. It was soggy and bland. The desserts weren't disgusting, one of them was even quite nice! We had a good laugh about betting which foods would taste the worst! Our smiles faded a couple of days later, though, when we realised they had charged us too much. In conclusion, only go here if your taste buds don't work and you want to gain a few kilo's...
Tom R — Google review
Huge and lots on offer. Ultra modern interior with good space. I think popular with local French Police as 15 or so all eating. You can take meat up to the chef for him to cook too your taste. Loads of seafood, sweets and ice cream. Not expensive either for what you can eat.
