Hiking area
Aira Force Waterfall is a beloved attraction in the picturesque Lake District, drawing visitors for over three centuries. The waterfall is where rainwater from the fells cascades into Aira Beck, creating a dramatic 65-foot drop. Surrounding the falls are nature trails leading to viewpoints and offering a secluded feel. Visitors can explore a network of trails from Ullswater lakeshore to Gowbarrow summit, passing through woodland glades and spotting rare red squirrels along the way.
We visited Aira Force during a weekend away from Manchester and were really pleased we made the stop. We arrived early, so parking was easy, though I can imagine it gets quite busy later in the day, especially during peak times. There is a bit of walking involved, including a fair number of steps, so it may not be ideal for those with larger pushchairs or anyone who finds walking difficult. That said, the paths are well maintained and the surroundings are lovely. The waterfalls themselves were fantastic powerful, scenic and well worth the effort. The whole area has a peaceful, natural charm and is clearly well looked after. It’s somewhere we would definitely return to next time we’re in the area. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys nature and a bit of light walking.

Visited with my wife whilst on holiday with our dogs. We did not use the main carpark but found one right at the peak on the hill. A beautiful forest walk with rushing water streams and the main centrepiece waterfall. Beautiful lakeland vistas on the edge of the woods also. A very worthwhile visit.
Daniel W — Google review
Big car park but often full so be patient. It is around £8 for 4 hours with a coffee shop, picnic area and little gift shop abalone before you do the walk. The walk is enjoyable scenic and not too stressful. Your able to walk your dog to but it must be on a lead. The views are stunning with multiple routes on offer. If you walk to the top of the water fall and back it's maybe 45 minuets. If you walk to the top other hill and do the whole waterfall it is 3 his if down very leisurely. Don't worry about the weather it don't stop you doing any of this

Definitely worth the visit. 2 sets of falls about 15 mins walk apart. Make sure to visit the 1st bridge for fantastic long drop view. The road into the waterfalls from Windermere is also spectacular. Entry in Oct 2025 is £6 for 2 hours which is plenty of time for most people. Free for NT members.
Stuart H — Google review
Such a breathtaking place. The scale and size of the waterfall is just a great experience to witness. The surrounding forest and parkland is lovely to walk through. The viewing platform at the bottom of the waterfall gives a unique and stunning view.
Nigel S — Google review
Get ready for steep descend and climb up for the waterfall. If you do not want to get down, you can visit the waterfall far from the place. Car park is smaller, and will easily be full during peak period.
Martin R — Google review
Aira force waterfall is a lovely place for people of all ages great views and great wildlife to be seen. If your in the area there are many more places nearby to visit but this was one off the bucket list. Make sure to bring a camera and take some beautiful photos of the waterfall below and above where the bridge is. Its a easy walk and toilets are only a few minutes walk away.
Michael M — Google review
Excellent scenic place to visit (even in the rain). We parked in the car park just off the A5091, there is a smaller car park further up the road nearer to the top of the falls. Parking (if not a National Trust member) was six pounds for two hours, which should be adequate to walk up to and back down from the falls, although you may want longer if visiting the tea rooms adjacent to the site. The walk, whilst up hill is not too strenuous, but care is needed in places due to tree roots and a bit of mud when wet. It is worth walking up past the staircase down to the upper stone bridge, as there are some lovely smaller falls and scenery up past the main falls. The walk is circular and only about a mile or so round, the views are spectacular, especially with the waterfall in full flow, which it was for our visit. It was very rainy when we went, but it did nothing to dampen our spirits, and was a great spot to visit. We did look in at the tea rooms, but it was quite busy so I can't comment on these. When it's busy there may be a bit of a queue for the car park, but be patient, it is worth the wait.

National Trust Glencoyne Bay Car Park

Parking lot
National Trust Glencoyne Bay Car Park, located about a mile north of Glenridding, is famous for inspiring William Wordsworth's poem with its beautiful daffodils. The car park is popular among paddleboard and watercraft enthusiasts, offering free access to National Trust card holders and easy access to a gravel beach. However, it can get quite busy on peak days.
Lots of parking, which is free if you're a member of the National Trust, £4 for 2 hours, or £7 for 4, if you're not a member of the National Trust. Beautiful views of Ullswater and surrounding mountains. No bins there so remember to take your rubbish home. We walked along a trail that leaves the car park on the right side, (if you're facing with Ullswater behind you), and this trail took is to Aira Force where there are toilets, tea rooms, and beautiful waterfall walks.

Edit - They are purple tinted lenses, if anyone finds them, we will really appreciate it & cover the cost of postage** Hi I don't suppose you know of any lost and found sites? My partner has left her glasses on the side of the lake opposite the car park tonight. Thank you

Gorgeous lake views with swans and ducks on Ullswater lake here, plus you can swim or paddle here. Great picnic spot! Kids love it too.
Gary W — Google review
Visited in Jan. 2024 for a cold water swim. The small shingle beach area makes getting in or out of the water very easy here, whether swimming, paddleboarding, or some other activity. With the car park literally just across the road from the beach, it means you are only having to carry your equipment across a road. Whilst in winter there was plenty of space, do not expect the same in summer.
Angus C — Google review
Regularly park here as a National Trust member. Fantastic access to the lake for swimming. And now a coffee van March to November 2nd. Nothing better than a good cup of coffee and the view here.
R C — Google review
I mean it's a car park but what a car park. Park, pay (National Trust members free if you scan card). Cross the road and enjoy the view. Stunning.
Mark K — Google review
Cracking little spot just on the lower third of Ullswater. The only issues would be the busy road to cross if you have SUP /kayak etc but it's literally the road then you're on the shore. The size of the car park would be the other thing, it is limited- but its the lakes get there early and you won't have a problem, and if you can cross a road even better. Glenridding is just down the road and there plenty of cycling or hiking to be done nearby also so see if it ties in with your routes.

Hi, Was here all day today me and my little family, We only left at 7.10pm and no-one was next to us, literally just us in this little space, right opposite car park... i have left my purple tinted ray bans.. please please if anyone finds them i would pay for postage and appreciate it so much if could post them out please? Get in touch if you find them, i know they will be there as searched all the bags! Thank you

Mountain peak
Glenridding Dodd is a picturesque hill offering stunning views and a perfect option for those seeking a shorter but rewarding hike. The ascent from Glenridding is quite steep, but the effort is well worth it as you'll be treated to magnificent vistas of Helvellyn and Catstye Cam. This 17km route also covers other notable peaks like Sheffield Pike, Hart Side, Raise, White Side, and Green Side.
Walk was challenging at times (went up the rake) but great views of Ullswater, Glenridding and Patterdale if you go past the summit

First class. Everyone was really friendly and helpful, the boat was rigged for us which was great. Beautiful place to sail! Highly recommend.

Just beautiful. Gorgeous, clean traditional sailing boat. Super helpful, friendly staff. Thanks so much
Joanna C — Google review
Arrived slightly late with 4 grandchildren and their parents. Staff sorted out issue with one granddaughter not wanting pictures on her life jacket. Hired a traditional gaff rigged boat which was ready with one reef but happily put in a second in (as grandson aged three). Did four 1/2 hour sails with 2 grandchildren (and assorted parents) at a time and staff on dock for each exchange. Final sail with girls (5 and 6) swapped boats and had a pirate flag as well! Recommend.
Chris N — Google review
New to sailing and my first sail without an instructor was with Glenridding sailing centre. The staff were so polite and helpful, they gave good advice and they left me be but knew exactly when to give assistance which they did when the wind picked up. Brilliant centre and staff. Cannot recommend enough especially to those new to sailing.
Patrick G — Google review
The entire experience from start to finish was outstanding. I had a voucher for a 2 hour sailing taster session, but due to bad weather twice it had to be rebooked. Both times Linnhe did a brilliant job organising alternative dates, and it was definitely worth the wait. The welcome to the site was warm, the instruction from (and crack with) Pete was excellent which put me at ease in the boat and let me get on with sailing and enjoying the time on the water Hopefully I will be back again in future for more sailing.
Michael C — Google review
We booked a week of sailing lessons for our daughter who has some disabilities with Glenridding Sailing Centre - and from our first call with Linnhe to the fantastic instructor Pete, they could not have been kinder or more accommodating. Our daughter has left with a love of sailing. Totally recommend.
Caspar W — Google review
Myself and a friend turned up as a last minute detour whilst in the lakes over the weekend as we wanted to do abit of sailing. From the moment we arrived at the club we were met with a smile, Pete introduced himself then got to work helping us get on the water. The sail boat was all rigged up for us and we had a great time out on the lake. I came back after a hour whilst my friend took out another boat and I was made to feel welcome sat outside the cabin and told to help my self to free tea and coffee. This place is super welcoming and friendly and because of that we will definitely be back. Thanks Pete, Norman and the young kid, you guys run a great ship.

Nestled at the base of the rugged Helvellyn range, Glenridding is a charming village on the southern shore of Ullswater. It offers a picturesque setting with small shops, hotels, and cafes, making it an ideal hub for outdoor enthusiasts. Ullswater Steamers provides an excellent way to experience the tranquil lake aboard their delightful boats, which shuttle between Glenridding and Pooley Bridge. Families can enjoy special themed cruises like the pirate and Santa cruises.
Absolutely stunning scenery and lovely trip. Unfortunately we got on the wrong steamer as there is no signage so ended up on a two hour round trip instead of 20 minutes each way to the falls which was disappointing for us. But still I’d recommend as it’s a lovely trip.
Trudie B — Google review
Too wet today for cruising from this lovely village of Glenridding on Ullswater. I guess we had summer for 3 weeks in May. The riverside village is picturesque with loads of amenities and the steamer pier is minutes walk away . A long way from Scotland to come back another day. Weather...😡 The curse of the British Isles.
Dennis S — Google review
Visited with my wife whilst on holiday. We boarded at Pooley Bridge with return tickets to Glenridding. There is no car park at the pier, but Pooley Bridge had 2 public car parks we saw whilst there. A short walk from car to pier should take no more than 5/10 minutes max. The lady who sold our tickets helpfully included a timetable and highlighted the relevant times for connections & final sailings. The water crossing itself was seamless. The view across Ullswater are stunning with great hills rising up on each side. Boarding & alighting were simple affairs. There was a decent amount of spacd on both ships we rode on and led to an enjoyable day out.
Daniel W — Google review
A lovely experience. We had a little mishap with the tickets and the crew was very helpful in sorting things out. The cruise itself is fabulous and the pricing was reasonable. The scenery is as great as you would expected from Ullswater. The boat was in great condition and the captain has great humour which I’ll be honest, brighten up the mood even with the slightly gloomy weather. The crews were also very friendly and helpful as well.
Meizhu C — Google review
Simply delightful adventure on a period small ship between a number of points around the lake, picking up and dropping off passengers as you go! Friendly crew, ship in excellent condition. You can buy drinks on board and toilets are available. Excellent use of your time in the area imo.
Paul S — Google review
A wonderful way to see Ullswater. We did a return from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge and got lucky with sunny weather in one direction at least. Also got to see some great low altitude fighter jet fly-bys over the lake. The boats are very pretty and well equipped, including toilets, a bar, and good amount of seating inside and outside. They have their own car park right by the boats (£6 for 3 hours) and electric car owners there are two 22kw chargers which were easy to use and reliable.
Max L — Google review
Ullswater is a fantastic lake for all kinds of water sports. Near the booking center for a ferry there are toilets and a cafe you can buy refreshments. You can park really close in case you need to access the water for your boat. The parking fee varies from 3 or 5 or 12 hours stay. I stayed 12 hours and paid £12 contactless. There is the possibility to pay with coins, or you could go into the cafe and get help with paying your ticket. The water is very clear, and it slopes downwards gradually, which is great for little children wanting to learn to swim or using their little paddle boats. Halfway to the lake, there is a place to cliff jump on your own risk, though. Lots of trees for the older generation to sit in the shade when you go as a whole family for a day out. To get the best parking spot, you need to be there as early as possible, of course.
Rieta E — Google review
Lovely boat trip with friendly crew on the Lake Districts most beautiful lake In my opinion). Wrap up warm in October, the best views are obviously on deck. The bar serves the basic hot and cold drinks and snacks at good value for money prices. The only small downside was it's quite expensive at £24 per adult RTN. But, it is over 2 hours on the water.

There are various other establishments, primarily located in Glenridding, where you can find Catstycam - The Outdoor Shop and the Glenridding Gallery. This shop showcases the works of local artists and also offers locally made food and beverages for sale. It is a remarkable store that provides a wide range of outdoor clothing and equipment. Additionally, they have an abundance of emergency gear to assist customers in getting fully equipped.
Went in to buy a bag and although it was £119.99 then purchased the hydra pack which was £32.99. The quality was second to none and you pay for what you get all set up for me and shown how to use everything. Will be back again👍

I was fitted for some walking boots by Andrew 25 years ago! They have finally worn out( you get what you pay for) so needed replacing. Georgia was very helpful and got me sorted, this new pair will see me out. Shame to have missed Andrew who was a young lad when I first visited, but it was nice to come full circle and buy from them again. Highly recommend this shop for service.

Staff absurdly friendly. They’re supportive and don’t try to push anything you don’t need. We bought our first pair of trekking shoes ever. Very happy with.

Excellent outdoor equipment shop. I bought a rain coat here and the price was comparable to online prices. Unfortunately the toggles on the hood fell off when I put it on so I had to take it back. The customer service was excellent and they didn't hesitate to exchange it. The shop is dog friendly and well laid out. It is all upstairs though, so it wouldn't be ideal for wheelchair users. They appear to have everything you would ever need for outdoor adventures, from coats & jackets to boots & walking poles. Worth a visit.

We loved our lunch here! The homemade Spiced Potato, Spinach, and Chickpea Pie—recommended by the lovely lady at the counter—was absolutely delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly and kind. We also tried the fish and chips, chicken sandwich, and salad, all of which were really good. We’ll definitely be coming back—my girls love this place more than any other restaurant we've tried in the Lake District. Highly recommend!

We were there for a lunch. You order at the till. Coffee was great, we really liked it. Fries were homemade, you can easily tell that. But the shrimps were soaking in oil and really lacked any flavour because of it. It was a strange dish to be honest. The duck on the other hand was not bad. Unfortunately, we stumbled upon a bone. Service was quick. We thought considering the portions and flavours the place was a bit expensive.

I would give them 6 stars if there was an option! It's a lovely little cafe with great food and such friendly staff. We arrived here almost near their closing time but they were more than happy to accommodate us. We had chicken cheese panini, fish burger, onion rings, beers and hot chocolate. Everything was brought out promptly and tasted delicious. The hot chocolate was especially good, very chocolaty, just how it should be! The place is perfect for a meal if you're in the area.

The Inn on the Lake is a charming country hotel located on the serene shores of Ullswater in Glenridding. It offers refined rooms with complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi, making it a popular choice for visitors. The hotel features a restaurant and pub, where guests can enjoy delectable meals and drinks.
We recently visited Inn on the Lake for lunch and had a lovely experience. The setting is charming and relaxing, making it a great spot for a casual meal. We ordered a plain Caesar salad, tempura prawns, pepperoni pizza, and chicken bites. Everything was fresh, well-presented, and tasty. The Caesar salad was crisp and refreshing, the pizza had a good balance of flavors with a nicely baked crust, and the chicken bites were tender and flavorful. The tempura prawns were enjoyable, though we felt they could have been a little crispier for that perfect crunch. Service was excellent — the staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful, adding to the pleasant atmosphere. Overall, a solid dining experience with good food and great hospitality. We would happily return and recommend it, especially for those seeking a relaxed meal in a welcoming environment.

We had Sunday dinner in the Orangery, which was very pretty and overlooked the gardens and lake. This restaurant is dog friendly - note that the other restaurant at the hotel is not. Portions were a little on the small side but the food was delicious, and we would go again. Be sure to book in advance!

We loved our gifted stay here from a friend. Ullswater is really special to us anyway, but this is the first time we've stayed this end down in Glenridding. It's got everything you need though and it's actually alot quieter than the pooley bridge end! (Plus you can get a boat to that side anyway) The hotel was super dog friendly, it's the first time we've been given a little bed and towel and bowl for him. Usually we pay the extra and get absolutely nothing. Breakfast was great too, plenty of choice on the hot and cold menus. If we're being picky we'd have liked a blind or something in the bathroom because when the lights on everyone outside can see your shadow on the toilet and getting out the bath/shower! The coffees like lattes were also machine ones we think, would've been better if it was a full taller drink. Other than that, can't fault it. One of the nicest dog friendly hotels we've ever stayed in, and our pooch is 9 now! So we've done alot...

A fantastic gem in the heart of the Lake District. This gem is not to be driven past I have seen the one star reviews absolute nonsense. The service is impeccable. The staff are on the ball. We just went in for coffee but this is a very nice hotel with lovely public areas and comfortable seating. The views across Ullswater are quite breathtaking and a joy to behold. The boats travel up and down the lake ferrying passengers and this appears to be a regular occurrence. The waiting staff were quite attentive and polite and bearing in mind the quality of this hotel the prices weren't bad. I think that the next time I visit the area I will go as a hotel guest to check out the rooms and dining offerings. This is undoubtedly a wedding venue, it just has to be, just for the photographic opportunities it provides and although at the time of our visit it was raining, it was easy to envisage what it would be like on a bright sunny day with the bandstand and the lake with the little island offshore in the background of the photographs.

Just returned from a 3 day break. This is a fabulous hotel, in an amazing location, it was spotlessly clean, all staff were so professional and couldn't do enough for you. We had breakfast & dinner, the menu's for both had plenty of choice, all our choices we're delicious & presented by very professional staff. The hotel has a very calm relaxed atmosphere. We loved our stay and would definitely recommend to anyone. Hopefully we'll have a return visit.

We were here for a family wedding. A stunning venue in the heart of the lakes. Gorgeous views, lakeside. Delicious food, great variety of drinks at the bars, friendly staff and well looked after building. I couldn't fault this place, but if I had to, maybe the carpark was a bit small for the size of the property.

Pub
Located on Greenside Road, The Travellers Rest is a renowned pub among fell walkers in the area. It's a cozy traditional spot where hikers can enjoy a pint and good food without worrying about their muddy boots or wet gear. The pub is popular for its legendary reputation and serves as a descent route from the mountains. Additionally, it's close to great wild swimming spots around Helvellyn.
Called in travellers today for lunch with my niece & puppy. Very friendly bar staff & lady that brought meal out to us. Don't normally eat outside but it was such a lovely day. Plenty of tables to choose from. We both decided on the scampi. When it arrived it looked lovely. Piping hot. Both enjoyed very much although neither of us finished our chips. Have been to this pub many times in the past although not for a lot of years. It was a great food pub then & still is now. Plenty of choice on the menu & specials board. Had a lovely lunchtime together & will both visit again
Christine H — Google review
It's well located for walkers and people staying at the nearby campsite, with beautiful scenery around and a good beer garden to sit in. Sadly they take advantage of this with truly extortionate prices. More than £6 a pint for basic ales and lagers- they don't sell any good quality craft beer. The food was similarly expensive at over £15 for a main or £6 for chips and gravy for example. And while the portion sizes were decent, it was fairly basic quality wise. Staff were friendly.

Great pub among the mountains. Food was absolutely amazing one of the best steak pies and hearty dinners I’ve had from a pub. Lovely atmosphere and good price. Only down side is parking is very minimal (only 3-4 spaces and no parking on the roads)

We’ve visited the Travellers Rest three times this week, since we’re staying nearby. The staff have been so friendly, good humoured and helpful (even on a crazily busy Saturday evening, with a queue of thirsty walkers, out of the door). We’re pescatarian/vegetarian & have been pleased by the food offerings, the Penang & the Sweet potato & chick pea curries were particularly welcome. The Wainright Gold beer was served well & hit the spot. It feels like an unpretentious, genuine & comfortable pub that we needed after some seriously long walks. Oh, and the view from the beer garden is amazing. Thankyou. 🙏🏼.
Ugz — Google review
Lovely views from beer terrace. Also have a pretty, enclosed beer garden. Open long hours in summer. Do hot drinks and snacks as well as beer and food. Updated rating following several more visits. The food is good and the views from the beer garden are stunning. Lots of working parasols too, which is a bonus on hot days. Best pub in area.
Cumbrian L — Google review
We stopped here for a few drinks after walking in the local area (we were staying at the campsite close by). They advertise doing breakfast, but weren't doing it when we called in until later on in the morning, so we didn't end up eating here so can't comment on food.
Donna W — Google review
Absolutely stunning scenery wonderful atmosphere with everyone in the same place enjoying the walking, however the pub was not very clean tables sticky, the frozen food was expensive we had fish and chips and to be fair the fish hadn’t had a swim for at least twelve months, the drinks were comparable with other hostelries in the area, the one bar staff the business has was run off his feet and the customers were queuing outside the door yet the barman remained very calm and cheerful

The Ullswater Inn is a stylish lake-view property located in the picturesque area of Patterdale and Glenridding. The hotel offers elegant rooms, a refined restaurant, and a pub-style bar. Visitors are drawn to the self-catering cottages in Ullswater due to its stunning backdrop of Helvellyn, St Sunday Crag, and Fairfield. There are various dining options available in both villages, ranging from cafes and tearooms to pubs and hotel restaurants.
Recently refurbished and very comfortable hotel. The staff were excellent particularly the amazing gentleman who helped us sort out a booking which I had unfortunately messed up. They sorted out the issue and were very reassuring and competent. Room is a bit warm but comfortable. Would Certainly recommend

Quite busy when we arrived but the food beat their estimated wait time (I think they were being overly cautious!). We had a margarita pizza, and I must say, it was a great pizza. Really thin base, great tomato sauce. And a lovely beer garden. Would recommend.

Brilliant place and rooms were fantastic, but the attention to detail was lacking, 5 staff talking whilst waiting to be served at the bar , Breakfast was ok, produce was basic and no fresh fruit to accompany yogurt. Will go back though despite my moan. First bar I have been in which served 4 Gluten Free beer options.

We paid £270 for one night with two dogs in room 22 and it turned out to be the worst night of my life. The room is right next to (or possibly underneath) a boiler that runs constantly, it sounded like being on top of a jumbo jet engine. It was complete torture, we didn’t get a single wink of sleep. The heat in the room was unbearable too, which I assume was from the boiler. Because of this we were so exhausted we couldn’t do any of our planned walking, so the weekend was effectively ruined. When I mentioned this at checkout, the staff member simply said “I’ll let the reservation team know.” That was it. For £270, I expected at the very least a proper apology and some recognition of how unacceptable this was. Food for dinner was nice, but breakfast was another disappointment, a cold, self-serve setup with no greeting from staff. Again, for the price we paid, much more should be expected. If you do book here, avoid room 22 and any of the surrounding rooms at all costs. Unfortunately, for us, it was a complete waste of money.

We popped into The Ullswater Inn for a few pints while it was raining, and it turned out to be the perfect shelter. Cozy atmosphere, lovely staff, and stunning views even through the drizzle. The pub had a welcoming feel, and everything about the place made us want to come back — next time for a full stay. A gem in the heart of the Lakes.

Worst hotel experience in my 10 years traveling and working in event management and booking hotel rooms for all budgets. Severe hygiene problems: We found hairs scattered across the room, on the bedside table, shower area and bathroom walls. We also found a severe leakage behind the toilet which had built up mould (the bathroom is also not tiled but covered in vinyl, which is a health hazard). When we told the assistant manager and then the manager about this, they both asked “how are you sure this isn’t your hair” and that “nobody had complained ever about the leakage”. until we showed the photos. The next day, we also found hairs on the breakfast area, with nobody minding to clean this up. I also noticed that the shower gel and conditioner had been watered down. Staff: Overall, it seems like the staff don’t care about the customers or the company’s revenue or reputation. Receptionist/assistant manager is extremely rude, providing no explanation on our stay but handing out a printout instead (listing all the things that they WON’T do for you) but spending a long time talking about why we should sign up to their loyalty program. When I told him I wasn’t interested, he snaps by saying “don’t interrupt me”. The only kind staff was the bartender who came to clean up the hairs, who also was the only person to apologise. He promised to find a solution in the morning. Haggling skills needed: The next morning, I had to negotiate the refund of the rooms, with the manager first offering a refund only for the first night, then a partial refund for the stay. I told him that the leakage was severe and a health hazard, that I had photos, and that I had already booked at another hotel. While he was friendly and refunded the full amount, I do not appreciate having to haggle this, when there could be black mould in the bathroom. We were so happy to leave that we left behind a charger, but it won’t be missed. The issues we saw weren’t a one-time housekeeping problem, but continued neglect of hygiene codes. Please do not stay here if you care about your health.

Extremely overpriced and bland. 2 diet cokes and 1 x chicken rigatoni pasta was over £32. Definitely not worth the wait or the money. The location is great and has good views, but I wouldn't be in a rush to eat here again.

Stayed there with family for a few days in the end of June 2025. It is a dignified hotel in a quiet surrounding of Glenridding very near the Ullswater lake. You'll only hear the chirping of birds, gurgling of a little stream flowing just beside the hotel and sometimes rustling of trees due to wind gushes. The lake can be seen from the hotel. The Ullswater steamer service is also nearby. A very good place to relax for a few days. The decor is nice, the food is tasty and sumptuous and the locale is scenic. The staff could have been a bit more helpful.

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with White Lion Inn, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Sheffield Pike. All together, your day would be filled with about 3 hours of non-stop fun.

What a find, this is a fantastic pub with a great atmosphere and wonderful service. Food is amazing. We stayed at Side Farm and this was just a short walk from the site. Did I mention the cocktails. Wow! I will definitely be going back.

This is a brilliant pub, really friendly and quick service. You can't book a table although they do serve quickly so if you wait you can normally get a table. There's a good choice on the menu, nice home comfort favourites. The food was delicious, I had the vegetarian Lasagne. Portion sizes were decent. There's a car park across the road from the pub.

We had the burger and chips. £2 extra for the cheese and bacon. Very tasty and very filling. Food served inside only. The guy at the bar was very friendly. Sunday dinners looked very nice. Hopefully we’ll get back to sample one.

Two guys ( sorry I didn’t get their names) were so helpful rang ahead to campsite for us and sorted a booking, nothing was to much trouble! Ordered full rack of ribs which came with chips, salad and homemade coleslaw. Absolutely beautiful, cooked to perfection and the coleslaw was the best I’ve had in a while. A beautiful pub with amazing staff! Well worth the money spent can’t wait to revisit and would highly recommend a visit

Sheffield Pike offers a moderately difficult hike with stunning views of Glenridding and Ullswater. The trail starts near Ullswater and takes about 90 minutes to reach the summit. It's part of a route that includes other peaks like Glenridding Dodd, Hart Side, Skybarrow Dodd, Raise, and White Side. The climb is mostly on good paths but gets boggy towards the end. The descent can be challenging but the breathtaking views make it worthwhile.
The photos show the view from Sheffield Pike looking back towards Glenridding. Park your car in the town centre & walk up Greenside towards the YHA Hellvellyn & the walk is moderately difficult with around one hour to the summit.

Food is shockingly good. We had the Cumberland sausage and fish and chips. The batter for the fish is light, and the fish is very good quality. the tartare sauce is out of the world. The chips are very good too. The Cumberland sausage is firm and you can feel it is quality meat.

Came here for a meal and it was very good. I would add more salt for fish batter (fish and chips). my husband enjoyed his hit dog and my son ate almost everything from his plate. Service very friendly, prices acceptable.

Very rude staff and very rude behaviour towards the customer. Not everyone but the one who was with beard. He was really rough towards me . If someone is not familiar with restaurant , then guide them wisely. I took sprite can from the table which was actually for display . I was not aware about that , i thought we have to take drinks after ordering and payment. The guy with red tea shirt and beard got angry on me and tell that it was for display only . There was other customers and i was lost at that time. He was not even saying hello or thanks to customers( may be he is a racist or not interested on indain customer, but serving some indian dishes in his restaurant). Anyway the food was nice and all other staff’s were also nice.

Lovely family dinner here on last night of our holiday. The food and service are great - we devoured our mains before I could take pics but the pie, chilli and pasta special were all delicious. As was the Manchester Tart (pictured). Nicer wine than the usual pub options too. Highly recommended.

One of my favourite places to visit in the Lakes. Lovely food including some vegan options, lovely drinks, enclosed beer garden and a newly built play area which will keep kids busy all day. Slightly pricey but worth it for a treat.

Slightly overpriced for what is essentially a sandwich (£44 for 1 wine, 1 beer and two sandwiches). Food was very quick and tasty. Very dog friendly Menu was slightly odd, you can only have certain items at certain times however, We will definitely return though on our stay near by!

Popped in here after a walk, there was 13 of us so quite a big group but only one or two other couples in the bar. Ordered food and drinks and a couple of the drinks were wrong, we mentioned to one waiter who said “I just bring the drinks out” and then the waiter who took our order came out with more drinks (which were again incorrect) so we asked for the correct drinks to be told “no you ordered diet”. Both waiters then went back to the bar and began talking about it very loud. This made my entire group feel very uncomfortable. Food wasn’t that great for the price. Would not recommend.

A lovely little bar and function room at The Inn on The Lake. You can park here for free if you are using the venue. We stopped for a coffee break on our mini tour of Cumbria. It was ideally situated for us with mum's reduced mobility. The food being served looked fabulous, so absolutely worth trying on another visit. It's an exceptionally well presented venue with superb staff. The toilet facilities were spotless! The whole venue is accessible. There's a bar serving hot and cold food and drinks, alcoholic beverages are available too. This is a dog friendly venue. The bar is adjoined to a beautiful function room that was being prepared for a wedding reception. The wedding itself was being held on the grounds of the hotel with Ullswater as its backdrop.

We had a late lunch here and it was very busy. Fortunately, we managed to get a table, as others arriving after us were not so lucky! Would recommend booking in advance. The food and service here was really good and they have a nice selection of food available. The chicken fajitas and pork tostada were very tasty, as was the lemon drizzle loaf cake to finish

Helpful staff and quick service. The food is very average but the prices are premium. I went for the burger which was an eye watering £24, it was dry and over cooked. The chips tasted like they were cooked in very old cooking oil, not the best

Friendly, attentive staff - our server was a young French man and he was lovely! Food came out very quickly, covid guidelines were followed carefully. Everything good! Great location and nice dining area; we'll visit again. We had sandwiches and a ploughman's; the lunch menu was pretty big, lots of options.
