Rigny-Usse in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Rigny-Usse, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Rigny-Ussé attracts visitors primarily for the Château d’Ussé, a Loire Valley castle said to have inspired Charles Perrault’s “Sleeping Beauty” and known for its fairy-tale silhouette. The village sits along the Indre and Loire rivers, offering scenic walks, cycling routes such as the Loire à Vélo, and views over surrounding woodland and farmland. Nearby historic towns and châteaux, including Chinon and Azay-le-Rideau, make it an easy base for exploring the wider UNESCO-listed Loire Valley region.
With favorites like Château d'Ussé, Les Saveurs d'Italie, and Le Clos d'Ussé, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Le Clos d'Ussé so you can get the best taste of Rigny-Usse while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Château d'Ussé is a stunning 17th-century castle in France, with turrets and white walls that allegedly served as inspiration for the story of Sleeping Beauty. The blue-slate roofs add to its beauty as you approach it. The castle is rich in history and features highlights like the Sleeping Beauty tower, making it interesting for children too. In September, the gardens were still pretty with blooming flowers.
OMG what a beautiful picturesque chateau this is. Just like the fairy tale it is reputed to have inspired. Beautiful inside and outside with fresh flower arrangements adding a touch of elegance. A comprehensive tour around the rooms including the story of Sleeping Beauty, brought to life in a lovely set of towers and rooms.

This was a wonderful little castle, we had low expectations going in and were pleasantly surprised by how open the castle was and you basically visited the entire thing. On a side note, if using Google maps, if it tells you to go up a small road up the mountain, don’t do it, keep following the signs for the chateau or you’ll end up in the very wrong spot.

The wonderful Château d'Ussé presents scenes from the story "The Sleeping Beauty " on the top floor. The ticket price is €14.5 / person. There is parking in front of the castle but it is not signposted but 📍 on google.map and it is free 07.05.2025

Lovely time there, could park the bike safety ( cameras in the area ) and had a very nice visit to the sleeping beauty castle. there are caves, jail and gardens, like a fairy tale. Food at the front and wine sale on the side. ( Independent shops )

Wow !! Well we've visited some fab places on our French tour .... and this really is a highlight. It's an amazing fairytale (sleeping beauty was initially written here) chateau. Around €15 each. Parking opposite (no height barrier). Allow a good couple of hours to wander. The Chateau has a tower visit - complete with little sleeping beauty scenes, the Chateau itself has numerous rooms - all plaques in French and English. Then there'd beautiful gardens to explore - currently being planted up. The Chapel, the stables and the cellars are just as interesting. There's no toilets in the Chateau itself, (some behind the Chapel - some further down by the entrance), and no refreshments - cafe in the carpark. Little gift shop. English information sheet given to us on arrival. This Chateau is entrancing- we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Beautiful and fairytale majestic.

This Chateau is definitely well worth a visit. You need to be fit to manage the spiral staircases.

It’s very beautiful outside but not so special inside I think. You can see the sleep beauty manequins telling her story. The church is small but kilt.

A very cool castle to explore. We had staff follow us because we had a group of kids, fair but also this felt advertised at children and then nothing was accessible to them. Enjoyed the attic and sleeping beauty story.

Les Saveurs d'Italie is an Italian restaurant that offers a variety of delicious options such as pizza, vegetarian dishes, antipasti, and baguettes. The pizza is prepared using traditional methods, resulting in flavorful and fresh creations. The meals are made quickly and served promptly. In addition to the delectable food, they also provide a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at the bar. The staff and boss are charming and have received high recommendations from many customers.
Highly recommend this Italian Restaurant, warm and welcoming, authentic, great service. Good menu, and the food is amazing, service is fast

I had lunch here with my wife and daughter. Firstly they wouldn't let us eat outside despite having just arrived from train station with all our luggage. It had just stopped raining and there were plenty of tables under cover. They weren't at all helpful in where we should put our bags. It took around 20 minutes for our order to be taken. My pasta was very good but the pizzas were mediocre. We won't be coming back.

Happily open when all others closed, we ordered a rudimentary salad that was indeed...rudimentary. not terrible and served with fouée style local flatbread. The service was fine, and while we have no complaints, our 5-week stay here won't see us returning for further tastes of the menu.

Really disappointing I'm afraid. We had two pizzas for two people - one was a salami pizza which was barely cooked. Initially I thought the salami was added after the pizza was baked but while eating the pizza which was so underdone I realized the salami may well have been through the oven on the base and not show any signs of being cooked. The other pizza was properly baked but sadly lacking flavour as the base and toppings were bland.

A Saturday evening, looking for a very casual meal. We thought pizza would be a nice change. We were seated and tended to rather quickly. But, things fell apart after that. The pizza was bland to say the least. We ordered 2 glasses of wine. The restaurant got very busy and the young man outside was overwhelmed. We actually felt sorry for him. We ordered two more glasses of wine and then we waited. He served and bussed everyone else on the terrace. He totally ignored us. He never cleared our plates. He never brought our wine, until we asked for the third time. He never asked if we wanted dessert. We think we were treated this way because we were American. Our French is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it is perfectly adequate to order a meal and beverages. Our money spends just as well as any Frenchman’s; so shame on you for treating your patrons this way. We were not the only ones who were annoyed by this terrible service. Bottom line Avoid this restaurant at all costs!

Nestled in a serene location, Le Clos d'Ussé offers a charming escape with its bright and understated rooms that exude comfort rather than luxury. This family-run hotel features a casual restaurant where guests can indulge in delicious meals, including local wines and homemade treats like Mirabella jam for breakfast. The welcoming atmosphere is complemented by attentive staff who go above and beyond to ensure your needs are met.
Full of charm and character, this family run hotel has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Delicious dinner and local wines. Quiet and very comfortable - best night’s sleep of our holiday. Convenient for cycling or walking on the Loire. Love it!!

They don't want to attend foreigners in the restaurat...not Loire a velo quality standard.

Lovely warm welcome and the people couldn’t be friendlier and helpful. The rooms themselves are very run down sadly. The mattresses felt as if they were 30 years old, also the same with the pillows. Towels smelt like mildew/mould. It’s fine to stay for a night but certainly not the most comfortable accommodation.
Ramzi Y — Google review
Had a very nice, quiet lunch here, just 100m from the chateau entrance. Why go to the crowded & noisy cafe by the carpark, right opposite the entrance, when this one is so much more pleasant?
Daniel K — Google review
Stayed here as part of an Inntravel walking tour. Room is simple but comfortable. Shower and bathroom are recently redone. Dinner was delicious, French Sunday best. Breakfast included homemade Mirabella jam. Outstanding, in no small measure due to the enthusiasm and warmth of the proprietor.
John W — Google review
Not posh, and you have no other option in town, BUT for a monopoly hotel in the middle of almost nowhere, this place is lovely. The restaurant caters to your every need, the hotel staff is extremely service-oriented, and the rooms, while definitely crooked/old/worn, maintain a certain charm. Do not expect luxury, but expect comfort. Be sure to take a walk around the Ussé castle at night.

Loving the cafe over the road - reasonable prices considering you’re opposite the gorgeous chateau .. we’ve been for drinks, ice creams & steak frites tres Bon

Very friendly staff, good food. They even cook a special gluten free meal for my breakfast
