Ulva Ferry in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Ulva Ferry, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Ulva Ferry is a quiet corner of Mull known for its wide sea views, rocky shoreline and easy access to the unspoiled Isle of Ulva just across the water. It’s a good base for spotting wildlife, with chances to see sea eagles, otters, seals and seasonal puffins on nearby islands. From here, boat trips run to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles, famous for Fingal’s Cave and rich birdlife. The single-track roads and minimal development give the area a remote, slow-paced feel that appeals to walkers and nature lovers.
With favorites like Ulva, Eas Fors Waterfall, and Oskamull - Isle of Ulva, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like The Boathouse so you can get the best taste of Ulva Ferry while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Eas Fors Waterfall, with its name reflecting the area's Gaelic and Norse heritage, features a series of stunning waterfalls. While some smaller ones are easily accessible from the road, a larger waterfall downstream requires a bit more effort to reach. Visitors can enjoy beautiful views of the falls by parking nearby and taking a short hike. The area also offers opportunities for cold water swimming, but caution is advised due to strong currents at times.
Eas Fors Waterfall on the Isle of Mull is a breathtaking natural wonder! 🌊💦 The multi-tiered cascade plunges dramatically into the sea, offering stunning views and photo opportunities. 📸 It's a bit remote, with single-track roads leading there, but the journey is part of the adventure. 🚗 A must-see for nature lovers visiting Mull! 🌿

A beautiful waterfall on the Isle of Mull. Very picturesque but be careful you don’t miss it! The top side above the bridge is amazing with a little walk up to the top. Definitely worth heading up. Meanwhile at the bottom the perfect place to dip safely. The water is super clear and very refreshing. A cracking spot for a picnic
Greig R — Google review
Excellent walk round the Lochan, great waterfalls, not too strenuous and fantastic views over Tobermory.

Car parking spaces right beside it. So easy to access. I saw a review that said you must go see further down the waterfall and by God they were right. It is a crazy beautiful BUT looking over the egde is a death waiting to happen, what with no boundary to keep little ones or people requiring suppport, away from the extreme danger. So please be mindful of who you go with and dont go too close to the edge. The place is serene as worth a visit
Teenyleek 1 — Google review
Absolutely beautiful waterfall, there are 3 levels to the falls and we like to swim in the middle section, you can climb all the wat to the tops and the view is amazing
Ian W — Google review
Probably the best waterfall I've ever been able to get so close to. It's got 3 tiers with the last one going in to the sea.
Kurt P — Google review
Visited after a day of heavy rain, so the falls were in full force. Lovely spot to spend a wee while admiring the views
Jonathan G — Google review
Cool series of falls. Need to hike a bit down to see the biggest one so don't just look at the one by the road.

Turus Mara offers an unforgettable experience with their Staffa and Treshnish Isles Cruise-tours. Departing from Ulva Ferry, the tours provide a great opportunity to explore Fingal's Cave, basalt columns, and abundant wildlife. Visitors can expect friendly and professional crew members who offer just the right amount of commentary. The tour often includes memorable encounters with dolphins and various bird species such as puffins, guillemots, razorbills, and shags.
Amazing tour to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles. The staff are friendly, boat was clean and coordination was super easy. The captain did a great job letting us know the history of the various areas and what we were looking at. Staffa was closed to foot traffic, but they made that clear ahead of time and gave us extra time with the puffins which was better in my opinion. If you come from Oban they’ll provide a shuttle for you. Highly recommend this tour!
Justin A — Google review
Top notch experience from start to finish. Staff was so lovely and helpful, from answering emails to picking people up from the CalMac ferry and driving them to the boats. Watched a teenage crew member rush to help an elderly lady in her 80’s (God bless her!) walk across the path of wobbly rocks, which took a good 10 minutes, so she could get back to the boat safely. He was so sweet and polite with her! The islands and wildlife were spectacular! The PERFECT experience with a fantastic company!!!
K S — Google review
We had a fantastic day trip, exploring lots of islands and seeing loads of great wildlife, including puffins and seals! The staff were great and very knowledgable.
Caitie G — Google review
Great day out on the boat to Staffa and Lunga to see the Puffins. Crew were helpful, asked if we were OK. Skipper stopped the boat to see Dolphins swim by and also to look for Minky whales. The 2 girls helped my wife back off the rocks onto the boat when we came back, very helpful and appreciated. Would definitely recommend. Next time we're back we'll book again.
Stephen T — Google review
Excellent morning trip to Staffa. Saw lots of dolphins, some seals, gannets and Manx shearwaters. Skipper took the boat into the mouth of Fingal's Cave 🤩 and we had enough time ashore to walk briskly to the Fingal's Cave viewpoint as well as doing a loop to the highest point, to the north of the island and back to the landing point. Be prepared for steps if you go ashore.
Sandra H — Google review
Fantastic trip. Saw common dolphins and minke whales on the way to Staffa. Lots of lovely puffins, guillemots and razorbills on Lunga. Then as a final treat, a white tailed eagle sitting on a rock on the way back.
Linda G — Google review
Did the Lunga/Staffa tour with Turus Mara yesterday and what a fantastic day. Weather was superb but the trip, staff, knowledge and heir helpfulness was superb. I would thoroughly recommend this day which will make memories. The puffins were majestic and spending time at Fingal's Cave was just a joy. Was a brilliant day.
Grm244 — Google review
I've been coming to Mull for 30 years, but up until this point, I have never had the opportunity to visit Staffa and Fingal's Cave. Turus Mara was recommended to us, and we weren't disappointed. Friendly, entertaining, and professional crew. The commentary was just right, and we were spoilt on this occasion by superb weather. The additional bonus of being excorted to and from Staffa by a pod of dolphins made the trip all the more memorable. Life is about gathering and collecting memories on the way. Our trip to Staffa will certainly remain at the top of my memory list. Matthew Stafford (The Reverend Prebendary-Much Wenlock)

Ulva Church, though no longer used for Sunday services, holds a unique charm. Constructed by Thomas Telford in 1828, the church once accommodated nearly 600 people for weekly Gaelic services. Today, it serves as a venue for community meetings and book sales. Despite its diminutive size, reaching the church involves navigating a muddy path.

Island
Ulva is a rugged island located in the Inner Hebrides, with a small population and rich historical heritage. It is separated from Mull by a narrow inlet and boasts diverse landscapes including woodlands, moors, cliffs, and cleared villages. Visitors can explore various walking trails, including one leading to the remote island of Gometra. The island features the renowned Boathouse seafood restaurant and the restored Sheilas Cottage.
Had tickets for the tour of Ulva and Staffa. Unfortunately couldn’t do the staffa tour due to an accident, so drivers couldn’t come to the boats, but still thoroughly enjoyed our time on Ulva. Had amazing meatballs at the boathouse and the staff their were amazing to heat up our baby’s food. The trails around Ulva were exciting and enjoyable. Lovely little isle to enjoy your time when deciding a trip.

Ulva has by far, the best scenery on Mull and is a very special place. It is quite a large island that would take you more than one day to fully explore as there are so many paths and places to see. The wildlife is also great as I went there in the summer and saw many birds, butterflies, insects etc. Also, it didn't seem to get too busy and is especially quite if you go as early as possible when the short boat crossing first opens.

A delightful island. Not for city slickers looking for high tec life styles. Nature & hiking, plus quiet and midges.

Please, somebody tell me how to get to the Island Ulva? Witch is the nearest airport, and what are the connection from there to the island. I can not find anywhere these informations. I am from Finland, and I would like to visit Island Ulva. Thank you.

If you're planning a trip to the Isle of Mull, make sure to carve out some time for The Boathouse Restaurant on the charming Isle of Ulva. Just a quick boat ride away, this delightful eatery is perfect for warming up with a hot drink and a sweet treat after exploring the island's scenic trails. Since Brendan and Mark took over in 2021, they've infused the restaurant with local charm and an emphasis on sustainability by sourcing fresh ingredients right from their doorstep.
A lovely café/restaurant with an incredible view. We spent a wonderful afternoon on Ulva, which was bookended by a good coffee and a beer at the Boathouse. We had views towards Ben More and the bay. The staff/owners were very friendly and welcoming. They had varied, high quality produce and a tasty brownie - the fresh seafood looked delicious!

I have been here many times including two years ago. The food is delicious and the seafood is incredible as it comes straight out of the sea round Ulva. The service is impeccable and the staff friendly and helpful. The island lends itself to a good walk. Get there early for a trek around and then indulge yourself with the food and the cakes! They also stock some incredible local whey spirits! I also recommend the lobster I have never had better.

A quality day out from the Isle of Mull. We came from the Ross and it was definitely worth it! The food was amazing, with the local fresh fish (Trout and Salmon pictured), and an excellent pasta dish. The staff are friendly and excellent. Could not recommend enough.

Lovely quirky place at the boat ramp for the Ulva ferry. We were made to feel very welcome by the friendly and unpretentious service. Relaxed atmosphere and really delicious fresh seafood - the very definition of rustic charm - an absolute treat!

Absolutely loved our visit here, the team have created something really special. There was such a delicate flavour to the langoustines and brown crab we had. Everything on the menu is as local as possible, we bought some Ulva farm steaks to take away which were also excellent. Felt like an oasis from the modern world.
Abie D — Google review
A wonderful dog friendly day (need to be on lead around livestock), walking around Ulva and then a late lunch at The Boathouse with the best views of Mull. The seafood was fresh, tailored to me, and delicious lobster roll with orzo salad, our most memorable day of the holiday, so many wonderful memories I bought a beautiful lino picture of The Boathouse to never forget.
Louise G — Google review
The Boathouse was such a great surprise. The setting is beautiful and the food was absolutely delicious. We loved it so much we even ordered a few things to take with us. We’d make the ferry trip just to eat here again. Can’t wait to come back!

New owners have managed to improve an already wonderful place to lunch. Beautiful seafood with home made focaccia and pickles / slaw. Probably one of the most beautiful places to enjoy a leisurely lunch. Staff are so friendly and the coffee is on point - best flat white in Mull!
