Marble Canyon in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Marble Canyon, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Marble Canyon offers striking views where the Colorado River carves dramatically through red rock, marking the beginning of the Grand Canyon. Visitors can walk across the historic Navajo Bridge for sweeping canyon and river vistas, or head down to Lees Ferry, a key launch point for rafting trips. The area is known for hiking, fishing, and photography in a quiet, less-developed setting. Its remote location also makes it excellent for stargazing under some of Arizona’s darker night skies.
With favorites like Antelope Pass Vista, Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center, and Marble Canyon Lodge, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Marble Canyon Lodge so you can get the best taste of Marble Canyon while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

I discovered this spot by chance while going to Lees Ferry but the view from here is truly spectacular. After a narrow section of the road between two walls of rock, an endless plain with red rocks and canyons opens up in front of your eyes.
Francesco X — Google review
This stunning vista overlooking the entire valley is absolutely breathtaking. At an elevation of approximately 5,000 ft, this viewpoint offers you a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. From here you will be able to gaze out at the vast expanse of the Colorado Plateau, where the colors of the rock formations seem to change with every hour of the day. We recommend anyone passing through to take a moment to experience the natural wonders and tranquility of this area and do not forget your camera.
Thomas B — Google review
Absolutely beautiful viewpoint! Do beware however, MOST of the vendors are reputable and very kind, some not so much. I was fully aware I was buying a fake turquoise necklace, but the vendor lied to my face and tried to convince me it was “real kingman turquoise.” For $30?!?! Be so real with me right now 😂 Really cute necklace though!
Braxton W — Google review
Spectacular views of the Vermillion Cliffs and the surrounding area from this scenic pull off.
Rick W — Google review
We always stop here on our way through. Such a cool view. Fun to see all the stickers and maybe put some of your own on there. Some native vendors are often there selling jewelery and such. Easy stop, cool views.

Amazing views, Indian Pottery to purchase, and great place to stop and stretch.

Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center

4.8
(118)
Visitor center
When visiting the Navajo Bridge, make sure to stop by the Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center on the west side. Originally a rest area, it has been transformed into a visitor center and bookstore. On the east side of the bridge, you can find Native American crafts from vendors on the Navajo Nation. The center opened in 1997 and offers unique souvenirs.
Great place to stop for a break. If the visitor center is open it has a small gift shop and cold bottles water along with some more info on the area. Outside there is a decent sized bathroom. There’s several historical markers on both sides of the visitor center.
El P — Google review
Great parking and interesting information about the bridge and the California Condors. Small gift shop as well. And very clean bathrooms with short walls. Worthy of a stop, looking down at the Colorado River below is worthy in itself, then add on seeing Condors and the cool bridge.
Melanie F — Google review
This center is located on the west bank of the Colorado River along US Highway 89A and offers a visitor’s center, restrooms, a gift shop, and free parking for those wishing to visit the old historic Navajo Bridge. The center offers a fascinating glimpse into the bridge’s history and the region’s cultural significance. A bonus for visitors, is being able to see juvenile California Condors as they fly and perch under and along the bridge spans. There is free parking in front of the center along with well-maintained restrooms adjacent to the center with running water, not vault toilets. Make sure to walk along the historic bridge and discover the history around it and even visit the other side of the bridge, where you can view and purchase local Navajo jewelry and art.
Thomas B — Google review
Nice stopping here! I was hoping to see the California condors. I was told that the California condor has a wingspan as long as a bus!! I liked it also has a location where you can drop of your brown trout if you are participating in the study. Shop has lots of books and some hiking gear. They have a stamp if you are filling up your passport for park system.
Miguel R — Google review
1. Interesting plaque that the California Condor survived the ice age, but was almost eliminated by humans, who reduced the total number in existence by 1987 to 22 (actually 27). Wiki said they were then all captured and bred in San Diego and Los Angeles and reintroduced. 2. Nice to read this was built by the CCC. 3. It is not clear why there is a plaque to Lovie Davis Wescott Reeiff, 1913-1958, who died of a heart attack in Hawthorne, Calif., except "With all her heart she dearly loved this canyon country." The plaque concludes "Hoyeh de atÌn," which seems to mean nothing. Maybe her descendants gave money? 4. There is a plaque to Norman D. Nevills, 1908-1949, the first or one of the first to lead boat trips down six rivers, but placed by The Cayoneers, a private company still operating. He lived in Mexican Hat, and the tours left from Lee's Ferry, so it seems the plaque was placed here for advertising purposes. He died in Mexican Hat when his small plane had an engine failure after takeoff, and her turned around to come back to the runway and was crashed straight into a canyon wall next to the runway. He should have turned right and landed on the grass. 5. There is a plaque to John Doyle Lee making him sound like a wonderful person, but he had 19 wives, at least 11 of whom later left him, and in 1857 led the masacre of 120 pioneers in the Baker-Fancher party, for which he was tried and executed by firing squad in 1877. That plaque, too, should be removed. Typical whitewashing of American history.
Seth W — Google review
Simple. Yet effective! Great View. Super clean waterless bathrooms. Easy to access history.
Alvaro D — Google review
Free entry. They have souvenirs for all of the monuments and parks in Glen Canyon and Lake Powell. There is a geodetic marker on the Navajo Bridge, which you can purchase at the visitors' center. There are composting toilets in the restrooms. The parking lot is small, but folks are constantly coming and going. Definitely worth a quick stop.
Robyn J — Google review
The visitor center was very informative. We loved the walk out on the pedestrian bridge across the Colorado River. It's a long way down to the water. A great way to learn the history of the area and see some incredible scenery. Check it out, there is no cost.

Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area

4.8
(47)
Hiking area
Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area is a challenging and stunning destination for avid hikers. The region boasts breathtaking scenery with vibrant canyons and natural beauty. However, caution should be taken when exploring the area as it requires proper preparation due to deep sandy roads and poor cell phone coverage. It's important to have paper maps or GPS devices for navigation, as well as knowledge on how to handle desert driving emergencies in case of getting stuck.
Other worthy hiking adventure with incredible colors, vistas, and unusual rock formations full of swirls, layers, and teepee shapes.
Anne Z — Google review
Travel with caution and arrive prepared to take care of yourself in this amazing wilderness region. The roads are often deep sand and all navigation should be by paper map or actual GPS map device since cell phone coverage is very poor. Understand your vehicle and know how to handle deep sandy driving and be prepared with plenty of water and also the basic equipment to handle a desert driving emergency if you get stuck.
Craig P — Google review
One of the most breathtaking sites ever! It’s a must!!! You need to take the Epic Adventure tour on ATVs ! James was our guide. Absolutely one of the nicest and knowledgeable guides ever! Tony in the office is also amazing! The ride can be a bit rough. You will need something for discomfort by the next day

We arrived April 10 for a 10-day stay in our all-time favorite camp site. We have been coming here annually for 20 years and have won the lottery to The Wave twice. The beauty is endless... very peaceful, and quiet. We have always been able to count on water (we pull a travel trailer with an F-150) and came in with the fresh water trailer reservoir only 1/2 full. The outside spigot for water at the Contact Station was just a trickle decreasing to nothing. We were able to get some water from the water bottle fill inside the station. So .. when you come, bring the water you will need until the problem is addressed.

Long drive but a great view of the Paria Canyon overlooking Lee’s Fairy
Bryan D — Google review
I went for a 5-night backpack exploring Paria Canyon and Buckskin Gulch canyons. Amazingly beautiful place, but could be dangerous during rain season because of possibility of flush floods. Some parts of the canyon were full of water, when we hiked the water were up to my chest, so waterproof gear for your backpack is a must.
Elena O — Google review
It's a beautiful piece of country, but many of the trails are overly segregated to the public. You have to pay for multiple permits if you're going to explore thoroughly, and some are only acquired through a lottery. The slot canyons are amazing though.
Douglas R — Google review
I usually camp here; but, they do have a cabin to rent. The people are very nice. They have a great shower facility to wash the red dirt off after a hard days hike. Just a mile east of House Rock Valley Road, so you are close to The Wave, White Pockets and South Coyote Buttes.

Hiking Trails
1. There is a small sign on the left side of the road, and nothing at all on the right side, and I was looking to the right, so it is easy to drive past this. Park in the (first?) wideout area on the left (west) side of the road, as shown in an attched photo. After you park there's a board about the trail. Then walk north on the sidewalk, down some stairs, and go under the road and then you'll be in it. 2. We loved this trail, and it is a thrill from the very first moment. It is then ever-changing with new walls and countours. It was fun and easy and often shaded. You can turn around anytime, as we did after about 15 minutes, and still have had a gorgeous hike. 3. There is a lot to draw your attention on the way there - the Navajo Bridge, Cathedral rock, and near this is Balanced Rock, so allow enough time to enjoy these other areas, too. 4. Buy a UPF-50 rated shirt with a hood on Amazon, such as that by Isnowood, which I had. They are lightweight, no undershirt necessary, and huge for avoiding sunburn. UPF-5O pants are great, too. People in t-shirts and shorts were getting burned up.
Seth W — Google review
It's a fun and challenging hike through a beautiful, rugged canyon. There are several challenging spots, but all have well-worn paths that require some scrambling or easy climbing.
Stewart C — Google review
Cathedral Wash Trailhead – A Breathtaking Challenge This hike is absolutely breathtaking! The views are stunning, and the challenge is real. It’s not an easy walk, but that’s what makes it so rewarding. The trail itself can be a bit tricky to navigate—there are no clear markings, so figuring out the path was half the fun. I loved the sense of adventure in finding my way through it. There are also some pretty big drops along the way, so you’ll need to carefully figure out where to go down and remember the right spots to climb back up when returning. The scenery along Lees Ferry Road is incredible, with the unique desert landscape adding to the overall experience. If you're looking for something that tests your skills but rewards you with spectacular views, Cathedral Wash is definitely worth it.
Anupriya A — Google review
$30 per vehicle for a pass. Hard because of climbing down/scrambling up and down rock tables, not because of the cardio. 2-3 hrs roundtrip for some reason it was not clear on AllTrails or even when driving in where to pay for the $30 pass so don’t miss the little sign on the right side of the road right after there’s a “pay station” sign. We missed it and went all the way to the boat landing and had to turn around!! It wasn’t obvious to us. This was such an epic hike! It’s easier to get down on the right side when you see the canyon drop down.
Kara H — Google review
Very fun trail to hike. It involves a good amount of scrambling so you'll enjoy it if that's your thing. Some pretty big drops but there is usually a reasonably doable way down, though might involve some searching first. The canyon ends at the Colorado river for a refreshing swim. Loved it.
Alicja S — Google review
This was my families favorite hike while staying at Page, AZ. Two kids ages 9&11. Parking was a small section right before the entrance on the side of the road, very easy to pass up so make sure to use your ALL Trails map to find it. There were some areas that were difficult to navigate with a 50-100 foot fall if you were not careful. You mostly stay on the right side of the trail most of the way. People have left rock markers on where the best part to climb up or down are, make sure to follow those. Do not recommend for dogs at all or when it's raining or even after a rain fall. Took our family about 3 hours round trip to complete, but we took our time getting to the river. On the way back it was much faster. You take this hike to the river and back. There were only a few hikers we saw. There was an older couple that had to turn around at the most difficult part of the hike- you will know it when you get there.
Monika P — Google review
Wow!! This hike is absolutely beautiful. The beginning is not hard at all, just wait. It’s gets challenging. It took us about 1hr and 15 mins to get to the river and about an hour back. The way there you have to figure out which side of the rocks to take and where to put your feet. When the wind picks up there is a lot of sand that blows through the trail. I would highly suggest sunglasses to save your eyes. We all loved the hike. Free parking, very quiet trail with very little foot traffic.
Jessie — Google review
Adventurous hike down to the Colorado River. We worked well as a team. Closer to 2 miles one way, so about 4 miles round trip. Our youngest was 7 and did fine but I wouldn't recommend it if your child is reckless or much younger due to the cliff drops. We loved the trip as much as other hikes we've done. Huge walls of rock, fun scrambling which is safe if you take your time and scout the trail appropriately. The river access is calm just down the stream of the exit from the trail only 30 yards. We went mid November and that was perfect with a light jacket. Mostly fully dry in the wash.

Really awesome spot to have a quick stop and take some pictures and reflect on how awesome nature is and what it can do and how small we are in all of the world. Take some pictures! It only takes a few minutes to have a quick stop and checkout
Kyle L — Google review
There are so many unique rock formations you will discover along the drive to Lees Ferry Landing and Balance Rock is just one of them. Here you will find an enormous boulder, delicately perched on top of a smaller rock, defying gravity. This stunning formation is a result of millions of years of erosion, creating an extraordinary sight that will make you ponder the power of nature. This is worth the stop to appreciate the intricate details of this balancing act as you will soon find yourself lost in the grandeur of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. There is plenty of free parking on the west side of Lees Ferry Road.
Thomas B — Google review
An interesting and stunning rock formation along the road. The balanced rock can be easily spotted from the road.
Walter R — Google review
Balanced Rock is something you’ve got to see to believe. It’s this wild geological spectacle where massive boulders are perched impossibly on narrow bases. Yes, I wrote in plural because this isn’t the only one in the area. Absolutely wild. It’s not just the rock formations that are impressive – the whole area is a feast for the eyes. Deep inside Marble Canyon, surrounded by these stunning views that make you feel like you’re on another planet. It’s a photographer’s paradise and a nature lover’s dream.
Rex J — Google review
Great spot to take pictures and admire the balancing rocks.
Town T — Google review
You pay $30 to drive to a boat ramp. There is the balancing rock and you can walk down to the river, but it's just a drive to a boat ramp.
Rayfield W — Google review
Easy 20 minute drive Navajo Bridge to Lee's Ferry. Worth the stop, and get up close viewing.
Sam B — Google review
What an interesting place. The rocks are gigantic and yet are delicately balanced on their sides, each other, and some are on pillars. Some look as if they rolled down from the cliffs above and others look as if they were delicately (and not so much) placed by huge fast moving water, or undercut by that same water. Come and take the iconic photo; standing under the one on the pillar and stretching to reach its underside. The landscape reflects the Southwest in all it's earth tone colors; reds and purples abound and the colors change with the lighting. Balanced Rock is located inside the Lee's Ferry Fee Area, about two miles past the Cathedral Wash Trail head. Have your National Park Pass ready. There is a generous roadside pull out for quick parking. If you come in the warmer season, have plenty of water. It's dry and dehydration happens quickly. The rocks hold and reflect the heat, so it can get hot there. And Please...it seems obvious, but this area's charm is the closeness and accessibility of the rocks. Don't deface them with paint, marks, or carving so that others may enjoy them.

Lodge
Serviced accommodation
Nestled in the heart of the region, Marble Canyon Lodge offers a charming Old West-style accommodation with rustic rooms and apartments. Situated right by the Colorado River and within walking distance to attractions like Navajo Bridge, it provides easy access to nearby wonders such as Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon, and Vermillion Cliffs. The lodge's strategic location also makes it a convenient stopover between Phoenix and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
My favorite hotel of my recent vacation, this place is perfect! We didn't even realize it, but we had rented the 2-bedroom, 2-bath "apartment" and were thrilled with having all that space and convenience. The apartment came fully furnished with incredibly comfy beds (great pillows, too!), two couches, a dining table for 6, and a fully equipped kitchen with a full sized refrigerator. Everything was brand new, and so comfortable. This would be a perfect room for a family of 4. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant next door and the food was delicious. Take an hour (or more!) to go to Lee's Ferry, you won't be disappointed.

Marble Canyon Lodge is surrounded by the incredible beauty of the Vermilion Cliffs. Just two hours from Flagstaff, AZ and an hour from Page, UT, this gem is located right next to the Colorado River. It is a beautiful and serene home base from which to explore so many awesome hikes! Recent renovations by Terra Vi puts this lodge in a category all of its own in the Marble Canyon area. Looking for a more upscale stay? Book one of their gorgeous cottages, which comfortably sleep up to 5! They even offer yoga and adventure retreats!!!

We loved our stay at Marble Canyon Lodge! The location is perfect, right in the heart of the canyon with incredible views and easy access to nearby trails. The lodge has a rustic charm but feels comfortable and cozy with updated rooms. Staff was super friendly, helpful, and made the check in process easy. The on-site restaurant was a huge plus to grab coffee and breakfast in the morning and dinner after a day of exploring. The gas station/convience store next door had everything we needed. If you’re looking for a unique stay that captures the beauty of northern Arizona while being close to Page, Vermilion Cliffs, and Lees Ferry, this is the spot. We can’t wait to come back!

This place was a gem on our road trip. The reviews are underrated in my opinion. You can tell the owners went all out to give the lodge that modern but still homey roadside motel feel. It’s absolute perfection. The room was cozy, with just the right amount blankets. We started a fire in the pit and watched the stars. It was so relaxing. The store, gas station, and restaurant on site provide everything you need.

Wonderful experience. Beautiful rooms; superb staff and food. My interactions with Kiersten were most enjoyable. I managed the Gap Training Post forty years ago and worked at North Rim around that time so I spent much time in the area. Your property is a remarkable improvement from when I used to stay there. Hats off to your present endeavors. Thank you all for such a pleasant stay! Jon Haney

This place is amazingly nice! Very recently remodeled. Very comfortable and roomy and nicely decorated. Our unit had a living space, dining table for 6, refrigerator and dishwasher. Main bedroom with queen and sink and toilet, a room with two twins, and a bathroom with a roomy shower. The staff were great. The Lonely Jack Rabbit restaurant has great meals and the outside bar and fire and big screen TV were really nice.

Clean rooms with great rates and quick access to Lees Ferry and surrounding areas. We set up camp here for multiple hikes. Convenient access to ice, gas, food and other items at Lodge and Gas Station. Had a great time meeting and hanging out with the staff and guests at the Monday Night Football cookout while we were there. Will definitely stay again.

The Marble Canyon Lodge was the perfect spot for our White Pocket adventure! We made it back in time for dinner at the Lonely Jackrabbit. We also enjoyed coffee and a blue corn cookie for a spectacular sunrise on the patio of our casita. I was thankful they allowed our well trained and behaved dogs since we were there for a dog photoshoot at White Pocket. Our dogs stayed in crates so not to make a mess or get on the furniture in the casita.
