Oviedo in 4 days

Sacred & Religious Sites
The Cathedral of San Salvador in Oviedo is a historic pilgrimage site with origins dating back to the 9th century. It features a Gothic-era tower and baroque decorations in its chapels. Visitors can explore the old town, visit the local food market at Mercado El Fontan, and admire bronze sculptures depicting local Oviedo residents.
It is also known as Oviedo Cathedral. Established during the reign of Alfonso II el Casto, king of the Kingdom of Asturias, in the 9th century, the cathedral follows the Asturian Pre-Romanesque style, a distinctive architectural style that emerged in the region. Over the centuries, it underwent multiple expansions and reconstructions, resulting in a mix of architectural styles, with Gothic being the dominant style, alongside Romanesque, Baroque, and Renaissance elements. The cathedral's bell tower, reaching a height of 80 meters, is one of the key features of Gothic architecture. There is a saying, "He who does not visit Oviedo before going to Santiago is a fool," emphasizing the cathedral's deep connection to the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James), making it an important stop for many pilgrims. Inside, the cathedral houses the Cámara Santa (Holy Chamber), one of Spain's most important repositories for Christian relics. The chamber holds sacred relics, including the Cruz de la Victoria (Cross of the Victory), the Cruz de los Ángeles (Cross of the Angels), and the Santo Sudario (Holy Shroud). In addition to its religious significance, the cathedral also served as the royal mausoleum of the Kings of Asturias, further highlighting its importance in the history of the region.

It's a beautiful typical cathedral. It's clean and well preserved. A bit on the expensive side, I visited cathedrals more complex and bigger cheaper or for free. If you wanna go to the tower it becomes even more expensive. The cathedral has nice details of craftmanship; one does not need to be a religious person to admire it. Given the proximity to other buildings you have to walk a bit around to see it from diferent angles however the city it's beautiful so it's on the positive side.

This is an incredible building. As it has been in place for 1200 years there are a mixture of architectural styles. The square in which it is situated was set up for the yearly festival but is quite beautiful. It costs €8 to view the interior which we don’t have time to do but looks beautiful in photos.

If you are interested in religious architecture or religious relics it is worth a visit. The gothic building is impressive and it has a small museum with catholic relics and objects. The visit is not going to take you more than an hour if you are interested in the subject. You can do the "Cultural visit" from Monday to Saturday from 10-13 & 16-19h. The ticket is 8€ per adult.Senior & students have a lower tariff.

Takeout Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Oviedo, Sidrería Tierra Astur Gascona is a delightful cider house that captures the essence of Asturian culture. Known for its warm and inviting atmosphere, this establishment offers an authentic experience where visitors can savor traditional dishes paired with exquisite local cider. The ambiance is lively yet cozy, making it a perfect spot for families and friends to gather over delicious meals. Guests often rave about the attentive service and the rich flavors that define their culinary offerings.
We had an amazing dinner here, enjoying delicious food and the traditional Asturian way of pouring cider. The atmosphere was great, and we loved watching the sidra being served. They open for dinner at 7:30 PM, but you can go earlier just for cider and beer. Authentic food, friendly service, and a great experience. Highly recommended!
MEL — Google review
Good value for money, is not cheap but the portions are huge. The service wasn't good, the waiters didn't refill our cider with the necessary frequency. The quality of the food was OK, but in Spain you always expect outstanding quality. I'm not going to repeat, but it is not a place to avoid. It has a nice shop of Asturian products.
Pedro T — Google review
What a great place to eat. The menu is extensive and food excellent. There is a good range of local ciders and wine. The service was great too. We will go back another time. Really sorry to have to update this review but as I said above we wanted to return. Unfortunately the waiter on the door was very rude when we tried to find a table and therefore we had to go elsewhere. I have sadly downgraded my scores
Daren R — Google review
Several people recommended this place to me. It was a good experience. I tried the cider and a beef and veggie dish. The beef was a bit fatty to my liking but the flavour was good. The cider was good too, light. Be aware though, they don't do the cider by the cup, it's by the bottle.
Deniz E — Google review
Friendly buzzing modern Asturian tavern with all the classics and innovations like tortos fashioned into cocas and pizzas. We came here for meat though and they did not disappoint, pork ribs were tender and smoky while the entrecôte was cooked perfectly rare as ordered and well rested. Cider service was well timed and expertly poured.
Juan-Carlo T — Google review
This was an amazing discovery in Oviedo. The food was great and there’s different options for vegetarians 🌱. You can get a traditional cuisine and a good ambiance. The waitress was lovely and explained the whole thing to us, she also recommended some cider.

Impressed with the service and delicious food. So tasty and a huge variety to choose from! Recommended for a visit ;)

This is really the must visit restaurant in Oviedo. The atmosphere is very friendly and all the menus are available in English. Food here is wonderful and portions are huge. Prices are pretty decent. This is one of the best places I have ever been. Dining here is the best with the group of people, but you can come here to enjoy food by yourself also. Big recommendation!

Sidrería Tierra Astur Parrilla is a well-known restaurant located in Oviedo, Asturias. It is part of the popular Tierra Astur group, offering a unique dining experience with a focus on local products and traditional cuisine. The establishment consists of two sections: a grill featuring local specialties and a restaurant that offers an extensive menu showcasing the same regional products.
Great place! We had some Asturian stew and a lot of sidra. The waiters serve it the traditional way here and the waiter we had was very attentive and kind.
Diego F — Google review
Frankly a bit disappointed with the food from the establishment. The cachopo was really tough to eat, as were the lamb chops. It's a busy festive restaurant but I guess not for us.
DANNY L — Google review
We had to wait for a bit to get a person to take us to a table. But the food was great, the service was fast/efficient, and the vibe of the restaurant is very classy and beautiful. I do recommend for people to share some of this plates that are big and filling for two to three people.
Nicole F — Google review
Atmosphere is great. Location is in very busy pedestrian area. Staff seemed uninterested when we approached to ask if there is a free table on the terrace. We have found it ourselves few minutes later when other guests left. Food is good, but to be honest I have expected more regarding the prices and reviews.
Filip — Google review
I usually try to avoid touristy spots, but this time I was really hungry and ended up here. I asked the waitress for a recommendation and went with the meat she suggested which is in the photo. The food arrived fairly quickly, but unfortunately it was a letdown. The fries were greasy and tasted like they’d been fried twice in old oil. The meat was rubbery and totally flavorless. The cider was nothing special either, though the way they pour it is kind of fun to watch. Wouldn’t recommend this restaurant, there are much better places just a few blocks away from the main street.
Tatiana B — Google review
We tried the local specialties, but the size of the "Gran cachopo vaca" was too big 🥶🤪
Wei C — Google review
The interior is strange in this bar/restaurant. It has design, but has also a touristic vibe. The menu is a complete photo album. But, the food is excellent and is reasonably priced. Drinking is cheap. Kitchen is still open, when al restaurants in the neigborhood are closed
Emiel R — Google review
The atmosphere was really nice and cool looking. The food however was disappointing, specifically Las Costillas Asadas, that my dad got. Given the cut of the meat we were assuming it was going to be a lot juicier, but it was extremely dry that he couldn’t finish it. As a starter we got the Huevos Rotos with the chorizo which was really good. However, my plate ( los escalopines de ternera ) never came, even though they had taken my order but never put it in, so we decided to just remove that from the order and leave. I would like to add that this is specifically just our poor luck, but also something to keep in mind.

Museums
Art gallery
Nestled within the elegant 18th-century Velarde Palace, the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias is a treasure trove for art enthusiasts. This cultural gem showcases an impressive array of Spanish, Italian, and Flemish fine art spanning from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. With its modern annex opened in 2015, visitors can explore around 78 remarkable works by renowned artists such as Francisco Goya, Salvador Dalí, El Greco, and Pablo Picasso.
A museum full of surprises, from its architecture and sheer size to the quality of its collection. We really appreciate the free entrance. This assembly of pavilions, each with a distinct style, surrounds a modern central building hidden behind a traditional façade. The exhibition space is vast, and every painting is thoughtfully displayed, well-lit and not overcrowded. However, many canvases are poorly stretched, and there’s a lack of explanations for each piece. A few QR codes are scattered around, but poor network coverage makes it difficult to play the videos (which have very few views anyway). A shop would also be very appreciated! I still highly recommend the visit, plan about 2 hours.
Paulin B — Google review
A modern architectural addition has been added to the entrance of the Museo de Bellas Artes (fine arts museum) de Asturias. On the ground floor, there are remnants of an archeological site. Mostly Spanish artists can be found here with a few other nationalities represented. The Museo de Bellas Artes extends into neighboring buildings, which are themselves beautiful architectural structures. What’s more, there are lockers to store any small bags at the main entrance. There are also QR codes throughout the museum that can be scanned to link to videos with more information about pieces of art. WiFi is available and entrance is free. Can be extremely busy on the weekends. Highly recommend.
Nanita — Google review
Great museum that you can easily spend 3 hours in and it's free to visit. They have both a modern art section and fine art one in the older attached building. If you enjoy that more, I would spend more time in that part.
RV — Google review
The "Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias", located next to the cathedral of Oviedo, is definitely worth a visit. But first this: pay attention to the opening hours and plan your visit. As is customary in Spain, almost everything closes for a few hours in the afternoon. This is also the case in Oviedo, including this museum. In addition, the museum is only open until siesta on Sundays and is always closed on Mondays. But this museum is free to enter, you don't have to pay an entrance fee! The museum was only opened for the first time in 1980 with 78 exhibited works of art. That is almost unimaginable, because today the collection includes more than 15,000 works of art and objects. Inside, this museum is a maze, because the museum expanded further and further over the years in partly historical buildings. But we as visitors didn't mind that at all. We were totally surprised by the size of the collection and unfortunately we had the closing time in mind. We actually saw far too many works in far too short a time, but not everything. The collection covers eight centuries, from the 14th century to contemporary art. It mainly consists of works by Spanish artists: from local Asturian art to the greatest Spanish visual artists such as El Greco, Goya, Zurbarán, Picasso, Miró, Dalí to name just a few of the most famous representatives of Spanish visual art. There are also some artists from other countries represented. And in addition to paintings, the collection also contains drawings, sculptures, photography, glass, pottery and posters.
Jan S — Google review
Super lovely museum! Has some really great pieces - I loved the paintings from Sorolla and Fortuny! Had some cool paintings from Dali, Miro and Picasso too! There is quite a variety of styles, mediums and eras which means there’s something for everyone. The layout was quite confusing because you can only get to some sections from a specific level but I still managed to navigate it with the floor plan (not in English). I was there for 1.5 hours before it closed at 2pm which was a bit rushed and I didn’t feel like I really finished my visit. No shop which was a shame because I definitely would have loved some post cards of the beautiful art! There is a little bit to read in Spanish and English on each floor but not super insightful - it’s more an overview of what there is on that floor and what style. There’s not written descriptions next to the artworks. Free entry is much appreciated!
Rolanda A — Google review
The museum is so impressive that you’d probably need to visit it three times to be able to take everything in without rushing. The artistic quality of the works on display is truly remarkable. My personal top 10 definitely includes Saints Michael and Engracia (1490), The Nativity of the Virgin (1485), Anamorphosis (1935), and Bacchus and Ariadne. Maria Luisa in the Garden (1871) is truly charming. Centuries go by, yet a single painting traces back to people who lived their lives so long ago. A special thanks goes to the explanatory texts beneath some of the paintings, as they really help to look deeper into what lies behind the artworks and the ideas the artists sought to express.

Mercado El Fontán is a historic market located in the old quarter of Oviedo. The market has a lively atmosphere and offers a variety of fresh produce including vegetables, meat, fish, and bread. Surrounding the market are stalls selling flowers, books, antiques, and more. The building itself is an eye-catching 19th-century structure designed by architect Javier Aguirre.
A traditional market where you can find fresh produce, seafood, meat, cheese, and Sidra (Asturian cider), a local specialty. It is a must-visit for those looking to experience the authentic local culture of Oviedo. The market features modern facilities for a comfortable shopping experience, and outside, numerous street vendors add to the lively atmosphere.

Built in 1885, Mercado El Fontan is Oviedo central market serving the city. Flaunting an Art Nouveau style, it is in dire needs of some much needed renovations (just better lighting would do a lot) but let that stop you and entering the fine selection of specialized store. We thought the fish store was especially attractive that day with a wide selection of fresh fish. Free to enter, one of your must-stops while in Oviedo. P.S.: if this review and pictures were useful in planning your visit, please leave a 👍, thank you 🙏

A great covered market in the center of the old town. The main produce for sale is fish though there are meats, vegetables, pastries, grains, and fruit. There are restrooms which you pay to use. This is a feature of Oviedo : free public bathrooms are not a thing.

This is an excellent municipal market. There is a wide variety of fresh and gourmet prepared food. Curiously, while crowded on a Saturday morning, it was much quieter than similar markets throughout Spain that my wife and I have visited the past two years. If you need non-food household items, there's a Mercadona about 200 meters away.

Nestled in the vibrant Gascona street, Sidrería La Pumarada is a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic Asturian cider experience. Recognized with the prestigious "Sidrerias de Asturias - Calidad Natural" seal, La Pumarada ensures that every sip reflects the rich heritage of Asturian cider-making.
We visited this delightful Spanish restaurant as a large family, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. The day's menu featured asparagus with a savory meat pâté and a delicious gravy, followed by succulent roasted meat that had been slow-cooked for hours, paired perfectly with potatoes. The dessert was a creamy cheesecake, complemented by a tasty cider. Every dish was a hit, and the wine selection was superb. Thank you for such a memorable meal. We'll definitely be returning with our card ready for more!

Overpriced, super loud place. The food was ok, but clearly not worth the 5 stars that a lot of reviewers left here. The service is below average as well, nobody speaks English (they advertise that they actually speak), we waited more than 40 minutes for a pizza-like bread, didn't receive it until a couple of remainders

Expensive for what it is. Tourist trap, busy restaurant in a busy cider street. Most of the dish in the menu, you need to order for 2 or 3. Food is okish. Pan is super dry and expensive, 1.45E for a tiny. We can't even finish half of 1.. 12E for a simple salad without meat or seafood. Service is long, servers didn't pay attention to us at all. Not recomended

Really good seafood and warm service. I especially love the Galician octopus dish here. I came here in 2018, it was 19.95€, now 20.90€ in 2022. Not bad at all considering the price increase everywhere. It opens late.

Cider bar
La Finca Sidrería Agrobar is a modern yet traditional Asturian cider bar and restaurant, offering classic dishes and tapas made with 100% Asturian products. The decor combines contemporary elements with wooden cider barrels and farming equipment. The menu features gluten-free, lactose-free, and vegetarian options alongside traditional favorites like creamy rice with pitu de pedreru and fabada asturiana.
Bustling on a Saturday night - reservation needed. Portions generous and the traditional Asturian food was tasty. Cheeseboards offered a good choice (goats and sheep cheese along with two blue cheeses and quince jelly). The wild boar with chestnut puree was a great combination. The torrajo (labelled as French Toast?!?) as dessert was reminiscent in taste of bread and butter pudding: the accompanying hazelnut ice-cream was divine. Cider pouring from a height was iconic and done with serious stares. Eating was slowed down a bit by what felt like the whole restaurant staff emerging to watch replays of Real Madrid goals in the Champion League final - but the enthusiasm and apologies were fine!

It’s along Gascona street so we appreciate getting a seat indoors. We called in advance for the dinner reservation. The chipirones 🦑 was absolutely good! The susurro del cerdo was reminiscent of a Filipino favorite dish “sisig” — we enjoyed the meal a lot. :) Cerdo + squid + 2 bottles of sidra + agua con gas = 51,60€

Great place to eat at Calle Gascona (Bulevar de la Sidra), specially if you stay outdoors at the Terraza surronded by Sidra green bottles professionally opened all the time by the experient Camareros. We tried the typical Huevos Rotos con sabadiego (sabadiego is a typical smoked sausage from Asturias) 👍... and the traditional Cachopo (2 steaks with Asturian Queso Cabrales and Jamon Iberico in the middle) 👌. The Price worths the Quality and quantity but I recommend just the Cachopo for 2 people.
Porto E — Google review
The staff are friendly and welcoming to customers. This place prepares authentic Asturian cuisine using locally sourced ingredients. The Cachopo antiguo, a traditional version of the hearty dish, is a must-try. But don’t forget to finish your meal with the Torrija asada, a roasted French toast served with ice cream—an unforgettable dessert experience!

Avoid if you are not a local!!!! We speak enough Spanish to get by, but for any foreigner hoping for a warm Asturian experience, this is the worst place on all of 'Cider Street'. From the moment we walked in, we were made to feel like an inconvenience. Despite the restaurant having plenty of free tables, we were ushered straight to the very back, next to the toilets, without a single word of welcome. The service throughout was just as bad. At no point did any of the waiters smile or make any effort to assist us. When we mentioned that we might order more food later, the waiter snapped back, “You need to make sure you leave by 10,” even though it was only 8:30. Throughout the hour, our cider glasses sat empty as staff repeatedly walked past, deliberately ignoring us. Had the experience been better, we would have happily spent another €50 on more food and drink—but instead, we took that business across the road to Sidrería Tierra Astur Gascona, where we were welcomed with smiles and treated with genuine hospitality. The difference was night and day. A quick comment on the food we did have: Croquettes: 7/10 – nothing to complain about here. Patatas bravas/alioli: 4/10 – very few potatoes (only 8), and they were exceptionally salty. Bread: Not served with any butter or olive oil, though the latter was provided upon request. Overall, if you’re reading this as someone from outside Oviedo, please take your business elsewhere on the street and enjoy a far better night than we had.

The food options are plentiful and might initially be overwhelming, but the quality of the dishes is top-notch.
Food was great. We ordered two different types of wraps and drinks alongside nachos. It was exactly what we expected. We also requested for the special salsa which was also nice. The servers were cordial and attentive. There was a nice vibe in the restaurant. Food price was reasonable. The Resturant is clean. The decors were also eye soothing. Highly recommended.

What a discovery in the city centre! Walking around Oviedo we found this Mexican corner next to the old local fresh food market. We were served by Isaac, whose service was delightful, so it was the food he put on the table. Best lemonade I’ve ever tried. We’ll definitely come back.

Authentic and fresh food. Most, if not all tasted homemade. The flavor was perfect, although less spicy than in the Americas
Xavier K — Google review
The food is OK, if you know Wahaca in the UK - this is less flavourful. One of the dishes had been under the heat lamps for quite some time from the dryness of the tortillas. Service started off great but then became non-existant, and this was with only half the covers. Cocktails were great though - well done to the barkeep.
Kulvinder S — Google review
Very nice mexican restaurant in the heart of old town! The food was really close to authentic mexican with all fresh flavours. We were dining here with the group of people and everything was arranged perfectly. Service was super friendly. We even got table without reservation, as we were also the first customers of the day. I really recommend to visit here!

A delicious plate of mixed tacos, perfect chips and guac and a tasty Mexican horchata served in the cutest glass cactus cup. Staff is also very friendly and patient. I enjoyed, will be back next time I’m in town for work.

We had the gringa and alambre (i think it was called like that, see pictures). Both were delicious. The 3 sauces were good and thankfully not too spicy. The place as such is beautiful and there was also some live music, even though it is a little bit loud when the place is full. Mojito and margarita also very good. The menu can be a little bit overwhelming at the beginning because there are many options.

Spanish restaurant
Casa Conrado & Suárez is an attractive eatery with a pleasing ambiance, offering a delightful Menu Degustacion. However, the main dish, entrecote, was disappointingly tough for a restaurant specializing in beef. The service provided was excellent overall, barring the thick slicing of the entrecote. Two shortcomings were observed: the display of vacuum packed steaks in the window and mistaken identity of waiters as security guards at the entrance.
An all around excellent experience. The fabada was the best I’ve had, and the bonito with pimientos de padrón was amazing. Great flavors. I was impressed.

Great place for meat and with incredible service. Nice seating with table cloth.

Our waiter Javier made sure that we were well taken care of, despite not being able to speak much English. He gave us a serving of Smoked Jamon while we waited for our mains. We didn’t order any starters under the advice of Javier. We enjoyed both of our mains: the portions were huge! : I had the Ingot of Suckling Pig, while my date had the beef steak. Both were delicious: the suckling pig was braised and was accompanied by a fragrant truffle sauce glazed with kumquat (sadly I forgot to take a photo). The steak was juicy and charred nicely. Best steak on this trip so far in Spain! (We have been in Spain for about 2 weeks) We had the Estada Reserva red wine which was extremely good value for money (25 Euros) and tasted divine.

Nestled in the charming Campo de San Francisco park, the Estatua de Mafalda is a delightful tribute to the beloved Argentine cartoon character. This colorful statue depicts Mafalda, a curious 6-year-old girl, sitting on a bench with her signature smile. As you wander through this leafy oasis, you'll find it an ideal spot for relaxation and people-watching. The park's serene atmosphere makes it perfect for enjoying a sunny afternoon with friends or capturing memorable photos with Mafalda herself.
Cute statue on the bench to take some photos with.

Nick K — Google review
It's a cute statue in San Francisco Park, in the center of Oviedo, in front of the duck pond. I didn't know anything about Mafalda as in Hungary we didn't have this comic so I looked up the story behind it. Its inauguration was in 2014 and Quino, its creator, was able to attend, since that same year 2014 he was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities.

San Francisco Park is a charming city-center park in Oviedo, featuring lush greenery, a picturesque pond, and an ornate bandstand. The park is home to resident peacocks and several authentic statues, creating a serene atmosphere for visitors. Nearby attractions include the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, which houses an extensive collection of fine arts from various mediums.
It is a beautiful park located in the heart of Oviedo. Created in the late 19th century, it serves as a major green space in the city, surrounded by expansive lawns and trees. The park features several ponds and fountains, as well as a variety of sculptures, all contributing to its picturesque landscape.

Campo de San Francisco is a larger park with plenty of grass, trees and bench-lined passageways that are lit at night. What is unique to this public garden park is the date made by plants that is changed daily. There are a few vendors lining one of the larger pathways along a side of the park that sells cotton candy, waffles and other sweets. And there is plenty of statues also inside the park. This is a lovely green space in the middle of the city that is worth a visit and worth sitting down and enjoying it.
Nanita — Google review
Campo San Francisco is considered the lungs of Oviedo. It is a beautiful and peaceful Park filled with hundreds of trees including dozens of different varieties from around the world. The space dates back to the year 1534 when it was area as a public space and in 1816 became municipal property. When my mom was in her twenties, there used to be a live bear in a cage on display for visitors in the park 😭 the scent of eucalyptus adds to the delight of this beautiful natural respite.

This beautiful park is the heart of Oviedo city. You will find several pieces of art here as well an archway. The legendary date that changes daily is also found on the North East corner of the park. It is a great place to have a coffee, take a walk or even sit on the grass. It is pet friendly and you will find a dog park in it. There is also a cafe there.

Nice park with a lot of Japanese influence. Was lucky enough to be here during the festival of Oviedo - there were a lot of cool markets and stalls sampling the Asturian culture. There was even live music performances. Really nice park and very calming.

Monument
Nestled on the east side of a bustling street in Oviedo, you'll find the intriguing Statue of Woody Allen, a tribute to the acclaimed director who received the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 2002. This bronze figure stands as a nod to his film _Vicky Cristina Barcelona_, which was partially set in this charming city. The locals were so enamored with his work that they decided to immortalize him in metal!
During a vacation in Bilbao, we felt it's the right choice to visit the statue of Woody ( whose movies we love).. its a well made statue and it's the closest I will meet Woody 😂 Not sure if the visit was worth it as the rest of the city didn't really impress me. Nonetheless the scenery between Bilbao and Oviedo was so beautiful!
Pinball W — Google review
It is a statue dedicated to the famous American film director Woody Allen, installed in Oviedo in honor of his connection to the city. In 2008, part of his film Vicky Cristina Barcelona was filmed in Oviedo, and he praised the beauty of the city.
Seokjin H — Google review
Intriguing to find Woody Allen in the streets of Oviedo. The statue could use a bit of maintanence but neverthless captured Woody's essence and his trademark sad frowning face. Be sure to find that film Woody made for Oviedo!
Jennifer L — Google review
People keep saying he had a great bond with the city. As good as the bond he had with his step daughter? The one he married?
Tara — Google review
Life size Woody Allen statue, a must if you visit Oviedo. Woody has a great bond with this city, and a picture here is a great memory. Besides, be sure to check out more statues in Oviedo, you will have fun!
ELEAZAR P — Google review
A very popular statue, right in the middle of a vibrant, busy city.
CC C — Google review
If you are a fan of Woody Allen you need to have a photo with him in Oviedo! Woody Allen Statue appeared in Oviedo not suddenly. It was a present to the director and a sign of gratitude of citizens of Asturias. A life-size statue of Woody was inaugurated in 2005 after the famous film director dedicated compliments to the city of Oviedo upon receiving the Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Artes. In the same year Allen came to Spain and reached an agreement to film his movie “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” in Avilés, Barcelona and Oviedo.
Olga S — Google review
Exactly what it says it is, a statue of Woody Allen. The location marker is fairly accurate, but the statue itself is small and easy to miss at night or on a busy day. It's across the street from the park and in the middle of the pedestrian area, not in the park. It could use a little information to explain its presence for those not familiar with it.

Salesas Shopping Mall is a major shopping destination in central Oviedo, featuring Spain's renowned department store El Corte Ingles and a large supermarket called Hipercor. The mall also houses various fashion stores, eateries like Burger King, and other amenities such as phone repair shops and shoe repair services. Visitors can explore an array of offerings including home items, gourmet markets, bakeries, and cafes on the top floor.
A big shopping center in the center of Oviedo that I like
Yv U — Google review
Nice shopping mall in the city. Mostly allocated to el corte inglés.
Reza M — Google review
This shopping mall has 3 or 4 floors. It is so big you could easily get lost in it, and forget where you got in.
ROBIN S — Google review
The top floor has some strange stores that aren't very good. But most of it is great, especially the big grocery store (Hipercor), the home items (Corte Ingles), Rodera, gourmet market, bakeries, and the little cafés. Hipercor is a lifesaver because they have a big selection, especially Asian, Mexican, American, English and vegan/vegetarian items that most of the local markets don't have. It can be a bit more expensive, though, so it's best just to get the specialty items and buy the rest of your groceries elsewhere.
Fish — Google review
Highly recommended. I love visiting Salesas center which contains numerous stores, in particular a comprehensive scope of El Corte Ingles departments, where you can find just about anything you want and have a lunch in one of the cafes.
S. M — Google review
A good little shopping center. There's a very good supermarket that has almost all you may need. Alcohol, clothes, meats, fish, and all other food stuffs. On the upper floors there's El Corte Ingles, they sell furniture, kitchenware, sportswear and goods, also bedding and other household items. There are places to get your nails done, your hair done and places to get a beer and a meal. It's by no means a one stop shop for all your needs, but it's not far from that.
Darren W — Google review
The corte ingles has a lot of things. Though they could have a better board game section. I get a lot of books here as they have a good selection. The supermercado is a good size a couple of little cafes with nice beer. The plant stall is beautiful. There is a phone repair place on the top floor (I haven't used it just stating that it is there) a shoe repairs place, phone contract shops. It also serves as a great cut through from the ring road to the main shopping district. Which it is really close to / part of

Teatro Campoamor, a cultural gem nestled in Oviedo, Spain, is steeped in history and elegance. Inaugurated in 1892 and named after the esteemed Asturian poet Ramón de Campoamor, this neoclassical venue boasts an opulent interior adorned with rich scarlet and gold hues. It serves as a prominent stage for various artistic performances including opera, ballet, and concerts.
Exceptional performance of Anna Bolena on 7th Sept... Superb chorus , and presentation style added greatly to evening.this was of the highest standard..well done to all

Lovely theatre, well maintained and staffed by people who show care for the place. The seats can be a little small for modern body sizes (length wise, anyway) but there is pretty good visibility all around, the boxes are worth the extra depending on the show. Surprisingly, the tickets are very reasonable (for the shows I've attended anyway).

McDonald's is a well-established fast-food chain recognized for its classic burgers and fries. Customers often praise the larger, cleaner, and faster service at certain locations, along with friendly staff even during busy times. While some patrons appreciate the freshly prepared food and delicious menu items like spicy chicken nuggets, others note that cleanliness could be improved. Despite occasional longer wait times and lines, many still enjoy their experience at McDonald's and recommend it to others.

Casa Fermín is a renowned restaurant in the capital, known for its elegant dining room and updated Asturian cuisine. Established in 1924, it is currently led by the third and fourth generations of the Martinez family. The restaurant holds two Repsol suns and was one of the pioneers in modernizing Asturian cuisine. It earned its first Michelin star in 1974, showcasing its longstanding culinary excellence.
We went for the Degustation Menu. 13 dishes. All being served very fast and cooked to a perfect condition. Gilda, the first starter, ice cream with relish and anchovy left us stunned - an explosion of tastes.
Valerie Z — Google review
For a Londoner with bountiful access to Michelin / bib gourmand restaurants, this is a 7/10. My artichokes were overseasoned and the toffee tuna was so literal. The reduction would have been too sweet even in a dessert.
Emmanuel X — Google review
Another good find for quality Asturian cuisine. The 'cabrito confitado' is a great dish to enjoy. Best to arrive in a share drive. Friendly staff. Recommended
Luis L — Google review
Superb food in a lovely dining area. We had an early lunch here before flying home and were made to feel very welcome despite being nearly an hour earlier than most other lunch diners. Ordered a couple of glasses of wine which were poured by the half so that the wine could stay cold. Jamón croquettes were wonderfully creamy - perhaps could have done with a fruit sauce for a bit of contrast but this is a mild criticism. Mains were superb - solomillo lovely and juicy and the suckling pig had a wonderful crunchy top.
Adam T — Google review
Excellent - we were given the Maridaje Premium menu as a present - superb - every course imaginative & delicious & the accompanying wines perfect. Great service - Maria was lovely, explaining each dish. A pleasant ambiente & a great experience all round - highly recommended.

This restaurant in Oviedo, Asturias, mentioned in the Michelin guide, is well deserved of a Michelin star. Starting with a lovely melon gazpacho, followed by an excellent Caviar with egg, and for the main entree a steak tartare with jalapeño and mustard ice creams. Then, to sweeten the palate, a typical dessert of my hometown, a Casadiella, a fried wheat pastry in Anisette filled with toasted walnuts and covered with white sugar. Finally, a nice brandy, Cardenal Mendoza, to end the evening. Awesome!!!!!
Vincent G — Google review
We tried the whole “Menú Degustación” and it was amazing, especially the ajoblanco and the sardinas. The entire experience was stellar and we even tried food never eaten before like the “Tendon de ternera”. The local white wine recommended by the dining room manager was perfect for the Menú. Service was impeccable and even Chef Luis Alberto Martinez came to say hi at the end of the evening. The restaurant inside is very nice and very quiet. We had one of our best dinners ever and a very pleasant time. I would definitely recommend it to anybody visiting Oviedo. Last but not least, prices were more than reasonable!

There is an hairdressing salon, also another play area for kids. There are restaurants, fashion outlets, including opticians, sports shops and phone shops. Everything is spread over three floors, all are easily accessible for everyone, wheelchairs are not a problem here as the escalators are like the ones in airport, without steps. Carrefour is also here and it's massive, everything to fit your needs. This place doesn't have everything, but it is still more than worth a visit.

Quite big shopill mall with lots of shops inside, very big Carrefour, cinema, arcade games for kids, restaurants and many more. It has both very big underground parking, as well as large parking lots around it, making it convenient to visit for families and on cars
X1d3nT — Google review
This is a very nice mall, very clean, but has few shops. Including parking and all the empty space, if this has just been developed as a normal city area, there would have been double the number of businesses operating. Although of course most malls likewise are not going to survive either way. Just seems strange to build such a large commercial space when a plain old street would have worked.
J C — Google review
It was nice to still have something to do on a holiday. The shops were closed but they had a game center with Hogwarts Legacy and several other games as well as an arcade some restaurants and of course the cinema which has films in their original version when they first come out.

Large commercial centre on the north side of Oviedo. Easy access from the motorway. Free car park. A bit narrow for my liking. Supermarket, shops, food court, although not great variety. Parkour venue, very popular with birthdays and something to do on a rainy weekend. There is also a cinema. It is not amazing but does the job.

Churches & Cathedrals
Nestled in the heart of Oviedo, the Iglesia de San Julián de los Prados, also affectionately known as Santullano, stands as a remarkable testament to Pre-Romanesque architecture from the 9th century. This magnificent church is celebrated for its stunning frescoes that draw inspiration from Roman designs and are among the most significant artworks of their time.
This church is one of the finest examples of Asturian Pre-Romanesque architecture, built in the early 9th century by King Alfonso II el Casto. It is a unique structure influenced by Byzantine, Late Roman, and Visigothic styles. The church is characterized by its thick stone and brick walls, small windows, and a simple yet solid construction. One of its most remarkable features is the original 9th-century frescoes, which are among the oldest surviving Christian frescoes in Spain. The name Santullano is derived from Saint Julian and his wife Saint Basilisa, to whom the church is dedicated.

Among the most unforgettable places I visited in Oviedo. Hard to believe that Christians were worshipping God here for over 1000 years. A truly UNESCO gem!

Absolute preromanic jewel. Unique geometric motifs of iconoclastic times. Quite good conserved. To visit it, call the number as indicated in the website. The lady will explain to you the history and the last visit is at 17h30. The ticket is 4€ pp

Visited twice, first to tour and second for a concert. Magnificent frescos!

Beautifully situated Pre romanic church ten minutes from the centre of Oviedo, with three naves and a striking wooden effigy of Jesus on the cross as an altarpiece. A lot of the masonry has fallen into disrepair but its frescos in the chapels have similarities with those found on the inner walls of Egyptian temples. It is three euros to visit with informative guide (in Spanish), which you have to take to see inside the church.

Very interesting example of a religious site from the 9th century. It preserves 70% of the original interior polychrome. Hours closed every 30 min. Last show 17:30. World Heritage Site next to Naranco and Lillo. Taking photos inside is prohibited.

An authentic Catholic church, built in the early ninth century and declared a World Heritage Site. The Roman style is highlighted by picturesque decorations, preserved to this day. The simple and unique form of architecture and gives it grandeur and eternity.

A UNESCO world heritage site and a pre-romanesque building. One of the 5 UNESCO sites around Oviedo. It's a little bit out of the way compared to the other one's which are either very centrally located or very close to each other. I also thought that it wasn't really sign posted in the city how to get there. Still worth a visit.

The Basilica of St. John The Real is a captivating place that exudes warmth and spirituality, welcoming visitors with its open doors even in the evening hours. This stunning church features an array of intricate design elements, making it a feast for the eyes both inside and out. The breathtaking stained glass windows are particularly noteworthy, adding to the serene atmosphere where one can enjoy moments of peace during services.
It was built between 1912 and 1915 in a Neo-Romanesque style, designed by Luis Bellido, to honor Saint John. It originated from a Romanesque church built in the 12th century, which was part of the Pilgrims' Hospital of Saint John. In 2014, it was granted the title of Minor Basilica. The interior features beautiful artwork and decorations. In 1923, Commander Francisco Franco Bahamonde and Carmen Polo were married here.

Beginning in 1912, construction of the Basilica de San Juan el Real began where another church had been demolished. However the origins of a church in this location date back to the 12th century. The neo- Romantic architecture is noticeable inside and out. It is worth a visit to see the details. There are even heaters inside the basilica.
Nanita — Google review
A very ornate church, both outside and out. Smaller and quite modest in comparison to some of the other mega-cathedrals in Spain. Similar construction and alters and icons to most Catholic places of worship. The crypts of the right of the entrance are interesting but probably not for tourists.

Spanish restaurant
Restaurante La Corte de Pelayo is a sophisticated and airy eatery located near Campo de San Francisco park. It is known for its traditional meat and seafood entrees, as well as a robust wine list. One of their renowned dishes is the hearty cachopos, which are huge veal fillets layered with ham and cheese, coated in bread crumbs, and deep fried.
We went there for a lunch without a reservation. The service was fast and professional. The food was exceptional. The portions were huge - octopus and Fabada were listed as starters. We would be satisfied with them as main dishes. We also tried fish and steak. Steak was supposed to be medium but was medium rare, and the potatoes weren’t good. I guess I should have selected a fish or more traditional dish. Otherwise everything was perfect. We paid 100€ excl. tip which was a bit expensive but worth it. Next time, we would go only with the starters or shared one main dish as we were not able to finish all the food. The bathroom was a bit dirty.

La corte de Pelayo is a fantastic restaurant. The staff is very friendly and welcoming as the restaurant decoration and views. The food is superb! We had Fabada asturiana and alcachofra as entries and it was the most amazing fabada we have ever eaten. For the main course we choose cachopo, and what a wonderful meal it was. Could not recommend you more!

Incredible Cachopo. Amazing texture and full of flavors. Their recipe from 1947 is with no doubts the best I have in Asturias. 1KG of food. Enough to share.
Alejandro S — Google review
The amount of the attention from the waiters is fantastic. We tried the rib cooked in low temperatures, cachopo (bot accompanied with amazing mashed potatoes) salad with langostines and mushrooms with foie and egg yolk. The food was excellent, the rib was falling apart and the crust is incredible. The cachopo is the best we tried so far: juicy, perfectly seasoned, soft and crunchy on the outside! The dessert plate was good (the apple pie and the cherry jam on top of the cheesecake were awesome), but it lacked any ice cream, which is interesting to try. All in all - we definitely will be back. The price is a bit on the higher side, but it all is worth it.

In short, either you move or this place will close in a few months. (Original) Leyendo las reseñas, parece que la gente fue a otro sitio o alguna catástrofe ocurrió justo antes de ir yo. (Translated by Google) I went exclusively to try the legendary hake from this restaurant and it far exceeded my expectations. It was fresh, juicy, soft, tasty. It melted in the mouth. It is true that it is the most expensive thing on the menu (as customers we would always like to pay less but between the oil and fuel...anyway). We also tried the soup and the seafood consomme, logically they were "the same" in flavor only adding fish to the consomme. It was also very well made. The desserts were good, the excellence could be topped off with some more elaborate desserts,..., it is my opinion because with all the time they have been working well... if they don't need it... I am like that, looking for one more point. Very correct, polite and classy attention. Fast and discreet service. In short, a well-made quality product, excellent service and treatment, and a price in line with the quality... (high quality)... Highly recommended. I will return because the menu had many options that I want to try.

Alex K — Google review
Potentially a very high level experience, spoiled by some (important) details. The location is very nice, central, modern, elegant and chic. We started our dinner by sharing some clams with lime sauce, it wasn't remarkable, quite a high price (26 euro) for around 12 clams, there was also one of them with a blatantly broken shell, you could feel some small pieces while chewing them. Not the end of the world, but for such a high price and small portion, one should expect very selected clams. Also, while some clams were fresh and tasty, some of them did not taste like. At the end of the dinner and during the night, one of us has experienced some bad food poisoning, most likely due to an "unlucky" clam. Then we tried beef filet with honey sauce + 5 different potato preparations and bacalhao pil pil and black garlic sauce. The dishes were delicious. Unfortunately, we found a tiny piece of plastic in the fish, and also some fish bones. The service was attentive, they were sorry and invited us with the dish to make up for the mistake, very appreciated. The desserts were also tasty. Wine recommendation was appropriate and not too expensive. Overall we have appteciated the dinner, but we would have expected a bit more for a michelin-guide level restaurant. Despite believe that we stumbled upon a very unlucky night, we cannot give more than 1 star, taking into account the food poisoning.

I’ve dinned in 5 different occasions and every experience and food have been extraordinary good. The foie is tasty and melting in your mouth, the chipirones (small squid) were cooked to perfection (tender, flavoursome and with a perfect bite), I couldn’t have cooked the grouper any juicer and tastier etc. I could go on and on highlighting their gastronomic craftsmanship. If you are into cheese don’t forget to ask for their cheese platter as dessert. On a final food note - the most impressive and creative dish (in my opinion) is the squid tartare. The wine list is both reasonable and extremely enjoyable. The service exquisite - always polite, accommodating and friendly. I will definitely go back.

ALTERNA Sidrería Oviedo is a vibrant and modern cider bar and restaurant that beautifully blends casual dining with traditional Asturian cuisine. Renowned for its warm atmosphere and attentive service, this spot is a must-visit in Oviedo. The menu boasts an array of delectable options, but the standout dish is undoubtedly the cachopo—often shared among friends.
My boyfriend brought me here, as he is local, to try the traditional food of the place. And honestly, I was impressed by the food quality and quantity! The portions are gigantic, so be aware of this and ask the waiter there. I loved croquetas de jamon, I think it’s one of my fav dishes of Spain, chicken with the cheese sauce was incredible as well (especially cheese). Important to mention, that we got the order in about 4 mins, that’s impressive speed. Prices r ok, but keep in mind that it’s better to book the table for the dinner, as they r always full of people! Thank you for the nice evening, we will come back again:)

The restaurant has modern decor which is lovely. The menu was in Spanish and Mario, the waiter noticed I was struggling to understand the menu. He spoke some English so offered to provide assistance in explaining the menu. He was patient and suggested a dish based on my food preference and great red wine. He made the dining experience stress free and pleasant. The meat was cooked to perfection. The meat was slight sinewy but overall good quality. Worth a visit.

The Museo y Circuito Fernando Alonso is a must-visit for motor racing enthusiasts. It's a museum dedicated to the illustrious racing career of Fernando Alonso, showcasing 270 exhibits including his cars, helmets, trophies, and more. Visitors can witness the evolution of Formula 1 up close with displays featuring the technology behind race cars such as aerodynamics and brakes.
This is a really fantastic place to visit! In the beginning of the Museum there are different tires used actually in F1 Races. It has a lot of examples of Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso. Almost all the cars he drove during his career including one McLaren drove by Ayrton Senna. Among the Trophies exposed, you can see the 2 F1 World Champions Trophies he got with Renault. Personal objects like gloves and helmets are also exposed. At the end you can see a car of Aston Martin. If you are passionate for Formula 1, I fully recommend to visit Fernando Alonso Museum at Oviedo Spain.
Leandro P — Google review
The museum itself is a wonderful display of Alonso’s achievements, featuring all of his personal belongings. It feels like you’re walking through an extension of his living room, giving it a very personal touch. I do wish there had been access to the track or at least a small guided tour that explained its significance. That would have made the experience even more memorable.
Silvia K — Google review
The Alonso Museum was the cherry on top of our trip! My 10-year-old son, who is a karting pilot, absolutely LOVED this place and was super excited to see Senna's car. His enthusiasm was contagious! For motorsport fans, this museum is an absolute must-visit. The collection is incredible and you can really feel the passion and history of Formula 1. The staff are true professionals - knowledgeable and friendly, clearly passionate about what they do. One of the best parts was that it wasn't overcrowded, so we could take our time exploring and really appreciate everything without feeling rushed. My son had space to get up close to the exhibits and ask lots of questions. And can we talk about the souvenir shop? It's fantastic! They have genuine team merchandise and you can actually get official team kits. We may have gone a little overboard with purchases, but the quality and selection were too good to pass up. If you're traveling with young racing enthusiasts or are a motorsport fan yourself, don't miss this gem. It's educational, inspiring, and genuinely exciting for all ages. And don’t forget to get an audio guide 🙌

We had so much fun! Wish the rounds would be a bit longer! The cars are electric so there's not so much noise like in other circuits and of course no smells. Well organized and clean. I would buy tickets in advance and here's my only critic..this process on the website is not so easy, we had two groups (kids and adults) and it was kind of impossible to book them and put them in the shopping cart to pay them at the same time. This process needs to be made easier. Thanks for the great time!

Church of San Miguel de Lillo is a charming 9th-century stone church that suffered partial collapse during the Middle Ages. It is one of the five Pre-Romanesque monuments recognized as World Heritage sites by UNESCO in Oviedo. Located about 300 meters from Santa Maria del Naranco, it can be easily accessed on foot from the city center or by taking a city bus.
Originally a much larger church, part of it collapsed due to a landslide in the 12th century. The remaining sections of the structure were preserved, with some of the fallen parts reattached. Like Santa María del Naranco, it was built around 848 AD and originally served as a royal chapel for King Ramiro I. The building follows the Asturian Pre-Romanesque style, featuring notable reliefs and carvings on the stone doorframes and walls. Inside, there are Byzantine-style murals and decorations. Photography is not allowed inside. Since access to the interior is only possible through a guided tour, so it is advisable to queue in front of Santa María del Naranco first, and visit this church afterward at the appropriate time. Keep in mind that the guide speaks only Spanish.

Known as “Samiguel de Lliño” in the local dialect, Iglesia San Miguel de Lillo was built in the mid-800s. This historic church, which is a UNESCO world heritage site due to its pre-Romanesque architecture & history, can be visited in conjunction with guided tours of the neighboring church / palace Iglesia Santa Maria del Naranco (€4 entrance fee for guided tour of both churches that lasts 30 to 45 minutes). It is a small church that has intricate carvings similar to the ones at the neighboring church and also has remains of a mural that depict shapes and humans. Photography is not permitted inside the church and carrying bags / backpacks (anything that can accidentally touch the walls) is discouraged. The walk from Iglesia Santa Maria del Naranco is less than five minutes; the walk from the center of Oviedo is approximately an hour - there are nice views of the city if you walk up though it is possible to drive.

A beautiful and well-maintained monument—rich in history and definitely worth a visit. It’s a great piece of heritage that stands out. Just a heads-up: there’s no parking nearby, so plan ahead. Otherwise, a lovely spot!

for the history geeks: this church was rebuilt 3 times due to corrosion by the nearby river, which is now a stream. materials from the leftover construction of the main oviedo cathedral in the city centre was used in the latest rebuilt thus you will be able to find intriguing and unexpected visuals if you look closer and examine carefully with your imagination - see the bearded figure I found that looks like its pouring cider? 😉

Excellent preromanic church just a stones throw from Santa Maria de Naranco, beautifully situated in the hills overlooking Oviedo. You can take a guided tour of both churches for four euros with a local guide and see their interior. San Miguel has frescos similar to San Juan de Los Prados as well as from later epochs. Tour is highly recommended.

Beautiful, lovely small romanic church, in a amazing spot not far away from Oviedo. Unbelievable sunset

Unfortunately, it is not possible to take photos inside this amazing 8th century church. There are guided tours in Spanish (tickets are available at the Santa Maria del Naranco church)

Iglesia de Santa María del Naranco

Iglesia de Santa María del Naranco, located on Monte Naranco in Oviedo, is a stunning example of Asturian pre-Romanesque architecture. Originally built in 842 as part of a palace complex, it was later converted into a church in the 12th century. The building's raised sandstone structure features a sealed crypt on the first floor and an open-air altar on the second floor, accessible by outdoor stairs.
It is a representative example of the unique Asturian Pre-Romanesque style. Built around 848 AD under the orders of King Ramiro I, the structure was originally a Royal Palace but was later converted into a church. Some scholars even consider this building to be one of the origins of medieval European palace architecture. While the exterior lacks elaborate sculptural decoration, the interior is distinguished by intricate column decorations and semicircular arches. From the loggia at either end of the building, visitors can enjoy beautiful views of the city of Oviedo and Mount Naranco. Since access to the interior is only possible through a guided tour, it is recommended to arrive early and queue accordingly. Please note that the guide speaks only Spanish.

Construction on Iglesia de Santa Maria del Naranco began in the 9th century. This unesco world heritage site was originally a palace used for recreational purposes and transitioned to a church three centuries later. It is extremely emblematic of Pre-Romanesque architecture, which the region in Asturias around Oviedo is known for. Pay attention to the details inside the church /palace where the carvings reveal animals, people and other symbols. The balconies on either side of the church / palace are also excellent for observing details of the columns. Guided tours of Santa Maria del Naranco cost €5, last from 30-45 minutes and are in Spanish. The entrance fee includes entry to the neighboring church. Highly recommend visiting, especially going on the guided tour. The walk up to Santa Maria del Naranco is rewarding though it is possible to drive up too.

The site in itself is stunning! Nevertheless, it is awfully managed for a UNESCO site. You can visit it only with a guided tour, which is in Spanish only, and whose schedule is not listed anywhere. As the site is very small, there is no real need for a guide, in my opinion, but for pamphlets and brochures in Spanish and other languages. Apart from this, the guide does not offer any real information, but reminds you all the time not to touch anything inside (it's one small hall with bare walls and columns) and literally locks the visiting group in so that the tourists wanting to get in cannot do it 🫣 Totally recommend visiting the site, it's an extraordinaty piece of architecture and a great view, but skip the guided tour.

Pre-romanic style only available in Asturias zone. Green enviroment. Poor timetable to visit the inside.

It’s my first time visiting Oviedo, and I made sure to see the centuries-old Iglesia de Santa María del Naranco. It’s fascinating to witness something that has existed for thousands of years.

If you are in Oviedo this small church is a must see piece of history up close.

Beautiful, so peaceful. They do tours at certain times. We went at 13.30, the tour includes both Santa Maria del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo. The guide was very knowledgeable. It's definitely worth a visit.

An amazing 8th century church. Guided tours are available every hour, only in Spanish. It was not a problem for me but even if you don’t speak Spanish, it is worth visiting.

Foncalada's Fountain is a remarkable pre-Romanesque stone fountain constructed in the 9th century over a natural spring of drinkable water. This unique civil monument, built during the reign of Alfonso III the Great, has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1998. It is an essential visit when in Oviedo and stands out as one of its kind.
Well conserved construction of the ninth century. Supposedly one of the oldest (still erect) civil constructions in Europe. It's a nice little gem if you like history and are in the neighborhood.
Patrice K — Google review
Built around the 9th century during the reign of Alfonso III, this medieval fountain is one of the oldest functioning water facilities in Europe. It features architectural elements of the Asturian Pre-Romanesque style and is adorned with Christian cross motifs. Once a crucial water source for the citizens of Oviedo, it continues to flow water to this day.
Seokjin H — Google review
Original 9th century fountain, one of the few well preserved and in use examples of high medieval civil architecture. Difficult to park nearby, better to walk.

Beautiful ancient fountain just available to walk up to and around

Incredible public works piece from the middle ages. It could be maintained a little bit better however as it felt slightly neglected for a UNESCO site.

Cider bar
Nestled in the vibrant Gascona area, Sidrería La Manzana Restaurante is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in authentic Asturian cuisine. This charming eatery captures the essence of traditional sidrerías, where the art of escanciar—pouring cider from a height—is performed with flair by its friendly staff.
Top in it's class (sidrería). Octopus is amazing and fabada very good as well. Recommended.
Marcin — Google review
Always crowded as a good restaurant should be. Cachopo really tasty and lovely sidra. Fairly priced. The staff are awesome... Always helpful and eager to "escanciar" the sidra for you...

I came here today with my partner, and his extended family (all from Asturias). I'm from the UK and this is my third time visiting. I can say for certain that this is the worst food and service I've ever had - and really not at all my experience of Oviedo or any of the rest of Spain. Our food was dreadful, and one of the courses barely edible. The staff were rude, dismissive and unfriendly. My partner (Spanish) complained and we were told of our experience "well that's your opinion" and dismissed. The whole experience was really off-putting. I would advise tourists to avoid this place and my partner's family (who live in Oviedo) will be doing the same.
Michael T — Google review
Not the best, ordered extra chips as main meal said chicken and garlic no chips. So I had too many chips, enjoyed the bottle of cider, dessert cheese cake was not as shown a bit disappointing. Bill came to 38.10 euros which was expensive for one person.
ROBIN S — Google review
Food is good, service is not very positive, quite passive. Kitchen opens ar 1 pm, but service didn't convey it to us
Anat S — Google review
This place is very impersonal. Tge waitstaff, while efficient, are all business and lack the warmth and kindness that i found at restaurants all over Spain. They present you with a very large menu and wait around ( more like hover over) while you feel pressured to quickly decide. We knew the portions would be huge- but they told us we couldn’t share a plate. Once the food came- it was delicious- but given the size of the portions, we could not finish. When we asked if we clubs taje the leftovers home, they said no. It seemed like a waste when they took our almost full plates away. While the food was good, I’m sure there are equally or better places where one can enjoy typical Asturian food in a more intimate and warm atmosphere.

Probably my favourite sidreria- in the lower part of Gascona so quieter (better for me, I can hear myself think!). Usual menu, big portions, great quality

Grill
Barbecue restaurant
Nestled on the scenic Monte Naranco, Restaurante Parrilla Buenos Aires is a must-visit for anyone in Oviedo. As you approach, the tantalizing aroma of grilled meats beckons you to stop and indulge. This charming eatery boasts breathtaking views of the city, making it an ideal spot to enjoy your meal—especially if you can snag a window seat! The menu features an array of grilled delights, with standout dishes like cachopo that are perfectly portioned to satisfy without overwhelming.
The views are amazing! We tried the grilled chorizo and the grilled cheese. Both were excellent. We chose the filet mignon cooked medium. It was enough for 2 adults and came with fries. Very tender and delicious. Service was wonderful considering the place was packed. We didn’t have reservations but were told not to worry they would sit us. We were given a table 20 minutes after.

Location: On mountain super nice view Service : Stander ,staff nice Price : 20euros per person Food : Stander . The beef is nice The restaurant have parking around . Need reservation Overall , it's Stander restaurant and staff nice . The view is super nice can see all Oviedo.

I guess most people that go here have never been to argentina. In that case, the place is ok. Cuts of beef are not so good, kinda tough. However the view is one of the best in the city.

was fooled by the name and the review ratings. turned out the majority of people were not eating, but taking drinks on the outside terrace. the views are great, but dining is not of quality.. had beef ribs and sausage (chorrizo). the meat itself was very subpar, couldn't finish it, despite having appetite. wouldn't repeat for free.. left a nice tip for the waitress, she didn't say thank you even once..
Alex R — Google review
The most amazing pork and Angus ribs! Succulent, flavoursome and plentiful. Exactly what you expect from a Spanish restaurant. Great quality meat, great friendly service and amazing views. The only problem was the fact I wanted to try more of the menu! Well deserved 5 stars. Well worth the visit.
Mr G — Google review
If you're in Oviedo and the weather's clear (better not wait for a totally blue sky) and you have a car, you must come here - the view is spectacular and the food (mostly grilled) is excellent and very good value. They don't take reservations, but come at a less busy time on a less busy day and you'll be rewarded.
