Vigo in 1 day

If you only have 1 day to spend in Vigo, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Vigo combines a busy Atlantic port city with easy access to some of Galicia’s best coastal scenery. Visitors can stroll its historic Casco Vello, sample fresh seafood in the old fishing quarter of O Berbés, and enjoy beaches such as Samil along the Ría de Vigo. The city is also the main gateway to the Cíes Islands in the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park, known for clear waters and white-sand shores. Maritime museums, contemporary galleries, and a lively bar and tapas scene round out its urban appeal.
With favorites like Bocatería L´squina, Restaurante O Porton, and O Sereo, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like El Mosquito vigo and La Carbonara so you can get the best taste of Vigo while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Shopping mall
Centro Comercial A Laxe is a modern shopping center located on the waterfront in Vigo. It offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options for visitors. One of its unique features is the rooftop terrace that provides stunning views of the city and the nearby bay. The center is conveniently situated near the port where cruises and ferries arrive, making it easily accessible for tourists.
A busy commercial port as well as a stopping place for cruise ships. That being so it doesn't subtract from vigo still having the feel of its old town along with many new fashionable shops. Well worth a visit. Even on a misty day a place of history and modern day living.
Ian B — Google review
Was on a cruise and our ship docked at Vigo seaport. The A Laxe shopping centre is directly by the port as you get out. Nice mall with restaurants and a lot of people selling all sorts of merchandise near the shopping centre. Had a good wander round and saw some shops inside the mall. Was able to access a path leading to the city centre from the top floor of the mall so decided to stroll into the city centre. Had a refreshing Bubble tea drink at a Bubble tea shop. Lovely day overall as the weather was also very good. 😍 🤩 👌🏾
Debakins2 — Google review
I bought a cottom candy from a vending machine to my daugther, the machine was broken without a sign and there was no one from management to complain to. I lost 3 euros and my daughter crying because of this. The center seems to be abandoned. A lot of closed stores and there are almost no places to eat.
João G — Google review
This modern three levels mall is very well located just in the waterfront by the Marina area in Vigo and has a good variety of stores, restaurants and cafeterias to serve locals and all the tourists that arrive in the mayority of the cruises. The scenic views are spectacular and the sunsets stunning!!
Maria F — Google review
So cute, scenic shopping mall with a lot to offer!! Lovely places to eat with seriously yummy food which is so delicious with excellent enchanting views! Christmassy at the moment with it’s sweet decorations and large tree on the ground floor!
Brett — Google review
Very hilly here, but the shopping centre has a lift and a bridge taking you to the top of the town. Shopping centre was OK, same as any other, but the views are amazing.

Mercado da Pedra, located in the historic town center, is a bustling market known for its extensive selection of seafood. The market houses several eateries offering fresh oysters and other seafood delicacies at reasonable prices. In addition to seafood, the market also offers local specialty items and deli products. Visitors can explore nearby shopping streets with unique Galician crafts and products. The area is lined with seafood restaurants and souvenir shops, providing a lively atmosphere for visitors to enjoy.
Love this place, few minutes walk from the port Amazing fresh fish all cooked to order. Great prices and good service.
Sarah B — Google review
An alley with several seafood restaurants. Gets a good atmosphere when the place is crowded. Chefs prepare fresh oysters while you watch. Take care of the handbag hawkers in the area. Souvenir shops also nearby.
Vincent O — Google review
Great place for ourdoor dining. The gallego seafood paella was delicious, had a lot of different seafood and not too heavy with rice.
Phyllis H — Google review
Messy place 🤨 much better places nearby. And... Avoid these oysters. Verms included 🤮
Fernando M — Google review
The square was by the mercado was under construction leaching to a low score on this visit. The oysters were a bit too salty and left a bad after taste. I love oysters, so it was disappointing.
Jonathan C — Google review
Great for shopping, dining, and people watching!
Perry S — Google review
Fabulous little treat to find, moments from the shopping main street and walking distance to the port. Old fashioned and typically Spanish street selling souvenirs, a few coffee shops and cafe's. The souvenir shops are well stocked and not expensive, a brilliant little distraction and find while visiting Vigo.
Matthew B — Google review
Nice market to visit but don't expect too much. It is very small, with some shops, popular with tourists, although it was not as we expected. The seafood is definitely the highlight so go if you want to have lunch or if you want to taste some fresh octopus and oysters. It is interesting because it seems historic but it seems forgotten, in my opinion, it is not a landmark.

Billeteira Mar de Ons - Estación Marítima de Vigo is highly recommended for its excellent communication and accommodating staff. Despite a cancellation due to weather conditions, the situation was handled well with a refund and the opportunity to rebook for the next day. The ferry service to Cies Island during winter is praised, with travelers enjoying complimentary cider and Roscon de Reyes on their journey back. Customers appreciate the professional service, smooth online experience, and helpful in-person ticket purchase.
Ruben was very insightful and funny. Liked his knowledge of the local floral and fauna. Great little tour before we could go off and explore on our own. Well worth the visit to the beautiful Cies islands and proper value for money.
Rebecca D — Google review
Unfortunately, I found Mar de Ons’ policy to be deeply unfair. It may be legal under Spanish legislation, but they do not allow passengers to cancel after 14 days and changes are only possible if requested more than 5 days in advance. This leaves customers stuck in unforeseen situations, with no flexibility. There is a clear imbalance, passengers have no right to cancel or modify, even if willing to pay more, while the company reserves full freedom to cancel at any time. It goes against consumer interests and it is a poor costumer service and the costumer service is a waste of out time with standard replies… If you are looking for more flexible options, I suggest booking other Navieras, which often offers a “Cancel for Any Reason” option, allowing refunds even if the passenger changes plans, although subject to specific fees and conditions. I hope this helps other international travelers make more informed choices!

O Sereo is a famous steel sculpture in Vigo, known as the 'Fish Man,' created by Francisco Leiro. It stands in Plaza Porta do Sol and represents Galician culture. The area around it is perfect for breakfast and people-watching, with a vibrant atmosphere. While some find the statue beautiful, others consider it ugly but still acknowledge its significance as a reference point in the city center.
Amazing place where you can experience real Gallego way of live, tasting tapas with friends, shopping or just strolling up and down the street. Had a delicious tabua de embutidos and a beer at one of the esplanadas. O Sereo is a beautiful sculpture standing in the middle of the car free street and plaza.

I was in Vigo on New Year’s Eve 2025, and I had a disappointing experience. This year, the city’s mayor decided not to hold New Year’s fireworks or organize any celebrations in the city. Although the Christmas lights were nice, they were similar to those in other cities and didn’t stand out much. What was particularly frustrating was the lack of any announcement for visitors from other cities about the absence of New Year’s Eve celebrations. This was quite disappointing and disrespectful to those who came to enjoy the festivities.

Very pleasant. All except for one place called Jamaica coffee experience. If you can call it an experience more like a joke. Waited over an hour and that's with me speaking to the waitress twice. Absolutely waist of time totaly brain dead so keep away. Here is a picture of the place .

If you think it's a beautiful piece of art try going to the bus stop in front of it and looking into its eyes! Then, tell me if you still think so...I think it's an ugly statue but a place you must know because it's a reference point. It's right in the center of the city.

Parque Monte do Castro is a stunning park surrounding the El Castro fortress, featuring gardens, terraces, and shaded paths. The park offers panoramic views of the city from its mountain top location. Visitors can explore an Iberian settlement with Bronze Age dwellings on the lower slope. It's a great option for those who prefer a less strenuous experience compared to the nearby fortress.
Good place to catch sunset - just a 15 Minute walk up after a 10-15 walk from the cathedral. Lots of sitting areas as well to enjoy a picnic. Next time i would go with a picnic basket

Best spot, to see the sunset in Vigo! You can see all of the ocean, the Cies Islands, the bridge! I totally recommend it to everyone. Don't go without a cerveza! For picknick with your friends, it's the best as well!! Also, you can run and do sports around it, the best to do in the sunrise or sunset;)

At the top of the mountain, right in the middle of the fortress that crowns it, some walls from the 17th century that today are the best vantage point of Vigo and the estuary to the Atlantic Ocean. Within these walls are the castle of O Castro and its gardens, as well as sculptures such as the monument to Vigo by Camilo Nogueira or the tribute to the medieval poet Martín Codax. Walking down the paths bordering the fortifications towards the historic quarter, you will come to a new vantage point where the Rande Galleons Monument is located.. It consists of anchors and various cannons that were found from three of the dozens of ships sunk in the Vigo estuary during the Battle of the Rande in 1702, when the Anglo-Dutch fleet and a Spanish fleet escorted by a French collided. Very interesting place, a gem in history.

El Mosquito Vigo is a renowned restaurant that has been serving traditional Galician cuisine for over 80 years. The upscale ambiance and whitewashed room with an exposed stone wall provide the perfect setting to enjoy Spanish wine and delectable dishes such as mussels, empanadas, steaks, fish filets, and home-style desserts.
We came here for dinner and it was such a pleasant surprise experience, the atmosphere is very nicely lit, the waitress super nice and friendly, the food was very good and the percebes were a must, we also had a nice lamb and my partner had the fish monk very nice as well, we ended the dinner with a nice home made Santiago tart and really nice Albariño. Would definitely comeback

If I could give a 6 star rating, this would be the place! Amazing seafood. From appetizers through to the coffee schnapps at end the night, just wonderful! Service was AMAZING! Helping us with our Spanish while peaking very good English, she made meal most enjoyable. Her description of every course guided us all to something on the menu. A party of 5, 3 had seafood, 1 had a steak, and 1 had a vegetarian dish. We tried 3 of the deserts w/ the “French toast” as everyone’s favorite. I had the grilled, wild turbot, and also pictured is the vegetables over rice and the Arroz de monkfish and prawns.
Jim T — Google review
To be honest, this is a very expensive place. Expect to spend around €40–€60 per person depending on what you order. While the food quality and service are excellent, some guests feel the pricing is a bit steep for the overall setting, which hasn’t been modernized much over the years. “Top food, but pricey. The place could use some renovation.” The quality of the food is absolutely top-tier. From fresh oysters, scallops, and barnacles to Galician-style octopus and perfectly cooked fish and seafood rice dishes, everything is sourced locally and served with care. They focus on seasonal products, traditional recipes, and fresh seafood straight from the Ría de Vigo. Dishes like the rice with lobster, grilled razor clams, and classic empanadas are standouts. Overall is a very good restaurant.

The best food we had while in Galiza. The rice is to die for, the sea bass was grilled to perfection, and their wine recommendation was spot on. Plus there were all sorts of delicious mini starters. The service was perfect too. Everyone was just so nice. We ate indoors. It was raining and im not sure they have an outdoors area, but it the room was warm and welcoming. I strongly recommend

My wife and I spent 4 weeks in Portugal and Spain walking the Camino and doing a little extra sight seeing. This restaurant was recommended by the attendant at our hotel. I am so glad we took her advice. This was by far the best meal we had during our entire visit and the best meal we’ve had anywhere this year. The appetizer (carpaccio…) looked like no dish I’ve ever had, with the fish sliced so thin that it almost looked like a film. It also tasted like nothing I’ve ever had. The flavors were surprising, but perfectly balanced. Our main dish (lubina…) was expertly separated from the bones at our table by the waiter. I couldn’t stop eating because it was so good. Between the bottle of wine, bread, appetizer, complementary appetizer, and the main course, we were stuffed, but I couldn’t leave without sampling a dessert. It was equally amazing. The restaurant staff worked together harmoniously to produce not just an amazing meal, but a truly extraordinary dining experience. The only meal I can compare it to anywhere is a Michelin star restaurant in the states that we’ve eaten at only a few times over many years due to its expense. El Mosquito was similar in overall quality at a fraction of the price. I would never miss the opportunity to eat there again. Finally, lest you think I have some reason to invent this review, rest assured that’s not the case. I have no connection of any kind to this restaurant, other than being a very happy customer.

(Translated by Google) Well the truth is I was very disappointed, I went once and I was amazed, excellent service and fast food, I came back with all the excitement to relive the moment and nothing like what I experienced, very distracted staff, it took a long time for the food to come despite there being only us and one other table, I ordered 2 entrecotes well done but it seemed the cook did not know the point of the meat, we returned it once and it seemed he did not understand and it was basically the same, we ordered a type of pasta and they brought what they wanted, you almost had to ask for help to get a drink, the truth is I will not return, it is a shame because the first time it was excellent, I think they need to improve a lot and fix the place, it is very, very exaggeratedly neglected, a little more and if it is an abandoned place and you cannot differentiate it from one that is in use, and check the electrical connection upstairs as it has a water leak right where the high voltage cables are, that is a very big danger, I WILL NOT RETURN (Original) Bueno la verdad me quedé muy decepcionado, fui una vez y quedé maravillado exelente servicio y comida rápido, volví con toda la ilusión para revivir el momento y nada parecido a lo vivido , personal muy distraído, tardo en venir la comida a pesar de solo estar nosotros y otra mesa más , pedido 2 entrecot bien hecho pero como que el cocinero no sabe el punto de la carne , la devolvimos 1 ves y como que no lo entendió y estaba básicamente igual , pedimos un tipo de pasta y trajeron la que ellos quisieron, casi que había que pedir ayuda para que te traigan una bebida, la verdad no volveré más una pena por qué la primera vez fue excelente, yo creo que les falta mucho mejorar y arreglar el local está muy muy exageradamente descuidado, un poco más y si es un local abandonado y no los diferencias de uno que está en uso , y revisar la conexión eléctrica de la parte de arriba que tiene una filtración de agua justo donde están los cables de alta tensión eso es un peligro muy grande, NO VOLVERÉ

Had a fantastic seafood lunch, the owner is very friendly and so is the staff. There were 5 of us ladies and we shared a seafood platter for four people. Two ladies had the galician soup, very hearty, but a little salty. Very reasonably priced. Would definitely go back if I am in the area.

Hearty portions, delicious food!!! Lots of octopus and seafood! Located near a tourist spot. Helpful and kind staff. Reasonable prices.

Great restaurant with amazing food and wide variety of options ( also vegetarian) ! Waiting times could be longer but the food was amazing and affordable! Service was excellent but English was hardly spoken! Anyways we are satisfied and we warmly recommend this restaurant!

Wow! Fantastic atmosphere, incredible seafood and overall, brilliant. Only complain is that the sangria wasn’t to our taste but everything else - and I mean everything - was perfect!

Food was great (it took it‘s time, but was fresh made). I‘ve ordered a Paella for 1Person. It was a very big portion, but it seems it was no Problem to take the Rest with me. The order were attentive and friendly, although the Restaurant was quite full so it was a Little Bit busy there. I think, it‘s nearly the only Restaurant where you can order a Paella just for one Person, thank you for that! Parkspaces around the city.

Excellent Paella, good service and great management, went for dinner and everything went right. Thank you so much!

Unfortunately, our experience wasn’t that great. The pulpo with vinaigrette was overcooked and chewy, while the pimientos were the highlight of the evening – really tasty. We also had the entrecôte with fries, which was served far too rare despite being ordered medium. The fries themselves were way too greasy. The sole was okay, nothing special. Overall, the service was fine, but the food didn’t live up to expectations and on top of that it was pricy – for us, not more than 3 stars.

We had 9 people and they were able to accommodate all of us with ease. We ended up ordering the four-person fish platter and the three-person paella with scallops — both were incredible, but the paella was to die for. Highly recommend this place.
