Attingham Park, located just east of Shrewsbury, is a stunning 18th-century country house estate with beautiful parkland and a large organic walled garden. The property offers behind-the-scenes views of ongoing restoration efforts and features Regency interiors, a deer park, and various collections including paintings, silver, and furniture. The two-acre walled garden is continuously being restored to its former glory and provides an array of sensory experiences throughout the seasons.
We went on a school trip. And it's a huge park. It's the best option for kids to go and explore nature and have fun. Especially with friends. There's a cafe and many washroom facilities. There are different activities for kids and a lot of places to run around. It was my first visit and I highly recommend it. It's so clean and well maintained.

Visited here today. Very interesting house and lovely gardens. All staff were lovely and friendly, especially a lady called Ann Heritage, I think she said her name was. She showed us around the painting room and we saw the painting in the conservation room. She was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, approachable and so easy to talk to. We enjoyed the talk about the painting upstairs. A lovely visit. We would recommend this place. Wear comfortable shoes.

A grand and impressive house, nestled amongst vast grounds. Choosing one of the walking routes is a must, as this is such a beautiful estate. We opted for the woodland & deer park routes & being enveloped by the autumn beauty was delightful. We were lucky enough to see the deer, when sat on a bench eating lunch, can't get better than that. The house is also a splendour, with gorgeous attention to detail in each room, which still houses original furnishings, etc. You can walk around at your leisure or join a guided tour. Should you be peckish, there is a lovely tea room in the old stables & as always, a shop & second-hand bookshop. We thoroughly enjoyed our day at Attingham, hope you do too.

Awesome place. The house itself is stunning but the grounds are beautiful. Tall trees in lush forests with a deer park you walk through. I was able to see them in a large group not far from me. Well worth a visit.

Simply stunning. We’ve visited many NT houses and parks recently and inside the house was the most impressive and interesting. One got a real sense of the families wealth and the plethora of interesting ‘exhibits’ on show. All the staff were knowledgeable and the front gate volunteers very welcoming. I would heartily recommend a few hours here.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If I could give 10 stars, I absolutely would! I’ve visited Attingham Park many times, but this time truly stood out thanks to Les (at the entrance near the car park) and Matty, the amazing Café Team Leader. These two are the absolute definition of outstanding customer service. Starting with Les – what an incredible first impression she gives! From the moment I arrived, her friendly smile, welcoming tone, and great sense of humour made me feel instantly at ease. She’s got that wonderful Scottish charm that makes every interaction memorable — warm, genuine, and full of personality. You can tell she absolutely loves what she does, and it shines through in the way she greets everyone with such enthusiasm and kindness. She doesn’t just do her job; she makes people’s days better. Then there’s Matty, who is nothing short of a superstar in the café. You can see right away that he’s a natural leader — calm under pressure, organised, and always looking out for both his team and the customers. Even when the café is busy, he takes the time to check in, make sure everything is perfect, and serve everyone with a smile. The drinks were spot on, the food was fresh, and the whole atmosphere just felt relaxed and friendly. It’s clear that Matty sets the tone for his team, everyone works hard, but there’s laughter, teamwork, and pride in what they do. Together, Les and Matty made this visit one of the best experiences I’ve had at a National Trust site. They represent everything great about Attingham Park — friendly faces, genuine care, and an attention to detail that makes you feel valued as a guest. 10/10 – Les and Matty are a credit to Attingham Park and to the National Trust. People like them are the reason visitors keep coming back. 👏

We had an amazing time with family and friends at National Trust’s Altrincham Park, it truly feels like a hidden gem tucked away from the busy world. The grounds are stunning, offering miles of peaceful trails where you can walk, talk, and unwind surrounded by nature. Each route has something different to enjoy, from the beautifully kept walled gardens to the magical sight of deer roaming freely across the park. It’s a place that feels calm yet full of life, making it ideal whether you’re after a quiet stroll or a fun day out with loved ones. After exploring, the café is the perfect stop. They serve a good choice of hot dishes, sandwiches, and cakes, and while the prices are on the higher side, it’s worth it for the setting and the quality. We finished off our walk with tea and cake, which was the perfect end to the day. Dogs are welcome too, as long as they’re kept on a lead, so it’s a spot the whole family can enjoy. What makes Altrincham Park so special is that every visit feels different, whether it’s a new trail, seasonal changes in the gardens, or simply spotting the wildlife. It’s somewhere you can return to time and time again and always come away with a fresh experience.

Haughmond Abbey is a ruined Augustinian abbey with parts dating back to the 12th century. The extensive remains include the abbots quarters, refectory, and cloister. The chapter house boasts medieval carvings and statues on its frontage and a 1500 timber roof. Visitors can explore the site with pictorial interpretation boards and an introductory exhibition of archaeological finds. There's also a nearby picnic area offering beautiful views over Shrewsbury's countryside.
Another one of those places that makes me love this country. Even though it's only two minutes off a busy A road the abbey has a peace about it that is lovely. There is plenty left to see that allows you to get a real sense of what Haughmond would have looked like in its hayday. There are loads of information boards around the site and a nice little room with plenty more information. It's free to enter, and they do offer a guide book for 3 pounds. You will need to take cash as they don't take cards. There is limited parking on site. Take care pulling back onto the main road as the junction isn't the best

English Heritage run site although it is free entry to all. What used to be a café has been converted into a single small room exhibition space with office, and there is a small car park beside. Beautiful ruins and lots of history, we enjoyed a picnic here for an hour or so and I could have spent more time admiring the landscape and carvings.

Fantastic couple hours here, got talking with a local historian/volunteer I believe named Roger, massive thanks to him and his time to talk to me about the abbey and its vast history. He notified me of some interesting tours coming up next month including one by a stonemason which would be most intriguing as the abbey had many alterations and has been repurposed over the years. Fantastic day out thank you English Heritage.

Shrewsbury Castle, a 1000s sandstone fortress, is home to the historical collections of the Shropshire Regimental Museum Trust. The town center of Shrewsbury is a charming mix of streets and alleys filled with shops and eateries. The architecture in Shrewsbury is stunning, with beautiful buildings throughout the town. Notably, Shrewsbury Castle and Shrewsbury Abbey were founded in the 11th century by Roger de Montgomery.
A castle I have wanted to do for a long time. This castle is special as it houses a fantastic collection from the Shropshire Regiment. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful. Head up to Laura's Tower. It is not open, but the views from up there are fantastic. We paid £8 entrance, but well worth it. A small gift shop, but cash only. Toilets are available.

Shrewsbury Castle, perched on a hill in the heart of the town, is a good historical site with stunning views of the surrounding area. Originally built by the Normans in 1074, it has played a key role in English history, including during the medieval conflicts and the English Civil War. The castle grounds are free to explore, offering peaceful walks through well-maintained gardens. Inside, the Soldiers of Shropshire Museum showcases military artifacts and memorabilia, highlighting the history of the local regiments.I am not a fan of this type of museums so it did not hook me at all. Climbing Laura’s Tower rewards visitors with panoramic views of Shrewsbury and its medieval streets. The location is very convenient, just a short walk from the town center, Shrewsbury Station, and Park and Ride stops. While the outdoor areas are lovely, some exhibits focus mainly on military history rather than the castle’s architectural evolution, and admission of £8 is required for the interior. Overall, it’s a charming and historically rich site, perfect for leisurely exploration, photography, and learning about Shropshire’s past.
Przemyslaw K — Google review
Utterly magnificent! I'd recommend the museum to everyone. It doesn't glorify war but recognises the ultimate sacrifice that so many local men made. All of the campaigns in the last 300 years are remembered, it doesn't feel like a stuffy history type of museum as is right upto date today. The staff were friendly and informative, I came away with a far greater sense of knowledge about the world we live in now and how conflicts begin and end.

Nice and small castle, where you can see the history of military. It’s not too big but if you feel interesting about militarism then it’s worth visit. You can buy tickets in the counter no need to book it on advance its £15 per person for Adult. On the right side you will find Laura’s tower where you can Shrewsbury town from top.

We didn’t go into the main museum as it was rather pricey and with small children who would not have appreciated all the weaponry etc (give it a few years!) Beautifully kept (and free) gardens - a lovely place to hang with the family lazing on benches and on the grass for a bit of a rest after a busy morning.

Lovely historic castle, plenty of things to see inside of historical significance. The shooting simulator was also very cool for £1 !

The Parade Shops, located in a historic building that was once the Royal Salop Infirmary, now houses a variety of unique and interesting retail shops. The building, constructed in the 1820s by architect E H Haycock, features Greek Revival style architecture and has undergone several additions over the years. Despite not being on the main thoroughfare, the little indoor shops offer a nice range of independent stores.
lovely place and very underrated and undervisited. some lovely independent shops.... bookshop and Spels bakery in particular!

Many bespoke small shops in an old hospital. Worth a visit, and you may find something unusual to suit your needs.

Tucked away and barely advertised, probably as a result quiet. Interesting artisan shops and a second hand bookshop (take cash). Nice little cafe by the looks of it, though I didn't go in there. A bit of a hidden gem and desperately needs more publicity. Several empty units, which might be related. Only shopping centre I've ever seen with locks on toilet doors! You get the code after buying from a retailer. Not keen at all on this approach even though I *was* a paying customer myself. Fortunately Traitors Gate centre over the road has normal free toilets. Half a star docked for this irritating policy. Rounds to four either way!

PARKING FINE. BEWARE!! Explained after getting parking fine £60 That I had mistakenly entered only the last 3 digits of my registration after I had paid and left before ticket expired, no loss made to landowner as payment was made for my stay. Appeal dismissed. Appalled by the landowner allowing these car park operators to act in this way. Will never use car park or shopping centre again!

Nice quiet little shopping centre, a lot of barber's and hairdressers here. The shop we wanted to visit wasn't open sadly be that's our fault for coming on a day it wasn't open. Was surprised to see the Riverside cafe quiet as its always busy whenever we visit.

This is a surprising find, several independent shops with quality on show. Unfortunately, not enough advertising, people need to know this place exists. The River view café on the lower level has great staff and good coffee. There are excellent retailers throughout.

Visited the River View cafe with my friend who lives in Shrewsbury and didn't know the cafe or shops existed! The cafe is definitely worth a visit. Very knowledgeable staff of the items being sold. Very welcoming and efficient service. It's table service. Will definitely be back again. Are you a Blue Light card holder? The establishment recognises the card.

Shrewsbury Abbey is a well-preserved medieval abbey that serves as the backdrop for the popular Brother Cadfael mystery tales. Situated on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, it offers a picturesque setting near the River Severn. The town itself, known as the birthplace of Charles Darwin, boasts historical landmarks like Shrewsbury Castle and Prison. Founded in the 11th century by Roger de Montgomery, both the castle and abbey are steeped in history.
Visiting Shrewsbury Abbey was a truly peaceful experience. When I entered, it was almost empty—no crowds, no noise, just calm and quiet. There was no ticket or admission fee, which was a pleasant surprise. The Abbey itself is beautiful and very well kept, a clear sign that it’s deeply respected and cared for. I was able to say my prayers in peace, and I felt genuinely happy and uplifted by the sanctity of the place. The lack of tourists made it even more special—it felt like a sacred space, not just a historic site. I feel blessed to have witnessed the beauty and tranquility of Shrewsbury Abbey.
Zoë V — Google review
Soaked in so much history you can feel it as soon as you enter. The building is stunning with so much to see it's like walking in to a museum only this is the real thing, even the wall are there to tell a story. I was lucky enough to be there when mid morning prayers were taking place which lifted the atmosphere to another level. Although the scale of the building is similar to some of the cathedrals dotted around the country, the interior is far less ornate which personally I believe is much more in keeping with what these places are meant to represent. If you do visit make sure you take one of the information sheets to guide you around. Don't miss the exterior, which is just as interesting. As fantastic as these builds are it's the people that make them so special and I was lucky enough to spend half an hour chatting with two of the nicest and most interesting that I have come across in a long time.

Shrewsbury Abbey is one of the most interesting and beautiful places in town. It was founded in 1083 by the Norman Earl Roger de Montgomery and was once a large Benedictine monastery. Even though most of the old abbey was destroyed after Henry VIII’s Dissolution, the part that remains is still impressive and full of history. Inside, you can see the massive Norman pillars and arches, the stone nave, and beautiful Gothic windows. One of the highlights is the shrine of St Winifred — her remains were brought to the abbey in the 12th century, and the site became a famous place of pilgrimage. There are also memorials and plaques that tell the story of the abbey and the people who lived there, along with a small exhibition about its history and its connection to the “Brother Cadfael” novels. The abbey is still an active church today, welcoming visitors and well looked after. There is more remains of the abbey across the road which was built cut through the monastery buildings. Worth a visit.
Przemyslaw K — Google review
Lovely abbey (church) with some interesting medieval history and beautiful architecture and windows. There are a few signs with history and an informational one pager to learn more, so able to either get a quick 5-10 minute overview or read and explore in more detail. Free to enter, but donations appreciated. Clean toilets and public car park across the street.
Becky T — Google review
Beautiful building. Ancient masterpiece. Well serviced and documented. Quite peaceful, mainly because there were no statues.
Bright S — Google review
Well worth the pilgrimage to visit. A magnificent building full of spiritual reminders of our brief time on this earth. Be good folks is my take on it all. Must try harder could be my lifetime motto, I came away invigorated at life's opportunities.
Clive L — Google review
Visiting Shrewsbury Abbey was an unexpectedly moving experience. The moment I stepped inside, I could feel the deep weight of history in the air. The red sandstone structure, partially ruined but still stately, holds a kind of quiet dignity that speaks to its medieval roots. One of the most fascinating details I learned during my visit was that Roger de Montgomery, the powerful Norman noble and second-in-command to William the Conqueror, is buried here. It adds such historical gravity to the space — to think that a man so integral to the Norman conquest of England found his final resting place within these walls. It made the Abbey feel more than just a church; it's a true historical landmark. The interior is simple compared to other grand cathedrals, but that modesty adds to its charm. Some of the stained glass is beautifully preserved, and the surviving stonework offers glimpses of what once must have been a truly magnificent building. I appreciated how the Abbey doesn’t try to over-modernize — it respects its past while remaining a functioning place of worship. If you’re a history enthusiast or just someone who enjoys a peaceful walk through centuries of layered stories, Shrewsbury Abbey is definitely worth a visit. The connection to such a pivotal figure in English history made my time there feel especially significant.

The River View Cafe is a cosy cafe with views of the city. The cafe is tucked away and has plenty of tables outside and inside, as well as a terrace. The food is good value for money and all staff are friendly and attentive.
After a long walk exploring Shrewsbury, I came across a charming little spot called The River View Café. It offers a beautiful view of the river and has a warm, cozy ambiance that made it a perfect place to relax. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming as I arrived. I ordered a hot chocolate and a tuna melt panini—both were delicious. I sat outside, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the peaceful riverside view. The café is tucked inside The Parade Shopping Centre, making it a hidden gem worth seeking out. I’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended!

Lovely lunch in an amazing location, with fantastic service. What more could you ask for? Despite it being a rainy day we were sat outside covered by a massive umbrella, the menu had a wide variety of options and plenty of choice for our kids. Ordered at the counter and everything brought to your table, fantastic coffee and quick, well presented food. Genuinely couldn't fault anything Loved the view, and on a non rainy day I bet it's even better

Just returned from having afternoon tea and can not rate this cafe highly enough. Beautiful location and view, exquisite and delicious food and attentive, friendly staff. A real gem in the heart of Shrewsbury. Will definitely be back.

Visited today with my dad. We had a coffee each and I had a brownie. The setting is lovely although the river view is somewhat limited. However, my latte one shot was the best I’ve had in a long time and the brownie was massive (compared to a lot of cafes), it was so moist and a slight crispy outside. Our order was brought to us which means no battling with a tray to your table. Highly recommend a visit to while away some time.
Jack S — Google review
Food was cold. I ordered a bap and it was cold and dry, my mum ordered a panini and it came with the cheese not fully melted and was again cold and dry, it also wasn't toasted properly. We were still hungry as the portions are also extremely small for what you pay so we decided to have a cake and a biscuit and both were again very dry. The sponge of the cake wasn't soft and quite hard and dry as if it was days old, same for the biscuit which had an odd texture. Very expensive for what we got however the view and service was good.
Cleetus E — Google review
I have visited the River View Café several times recently with family members. The food was excellent—on our last visit, my wife tried the homemade quiche, which was delicious. There was a good variety of dishes available, and I appreciated that they offered a few choices of gluten-free cakes; the Carrot cake was especially enjoyable. The prices were very reasonable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was a lovely day to sit outside and relax overlooking the River Severn, If you haven't been to the River View Café yet, it's definitely worth a visit.

Friendly, efficient staff and a lovely location. Suprisingly poor coffee - been there twice(!) so more fool me. Strongly suggest that a manager has coffee at Patchs, Condor, or Oath and compares, as we would go regularly if the coffee was drinkeable.

While it exudes an upmarket ambiance, it remains a welcoming spot for a casual drink or light meal in a delightful setting.

Really cool place with plenty of wines to try. I had amazing desert wine there and really good cheese platter. Chutney were so nice and thick and sweet with cheese and wine is absolute gorgeous! Also can buy there a wine at retail price. Nice little cute place and gets busy super quickly!

Lovely little wine bar, very relaxed and pleasant. On the expensive side, but it was nice to have a good choice of wine. The only thing that disappointed me was the service charge on the bill. I was told the total at the front desk, and I duly paid by phone before being given the receipt, which had a discretionary tip line on it. I wasn't in the mood to cause a fuss but it just felt a bit sneaky to me.

Glou Glou is my favourite wine bar! The service is brilliant and always happy to talk me through what wines to try and the staff are so helpful. I saw the Oyster Night advertised and I was worried I’d missed the chance to book in as they’d already sent off the orders. The area's fertile fields provide an abundance of fresh ingredients that are skillfully incorporated into the delicious dishes served at the region's numerous restaurants and pubs.
What a gem! Went for Evening Christmas dinner, group of 7. Food was cooked to perfection and lots of it. Happy staff, food was hot and tasty and reasonably priced. Great atmosphere with live music later in the evening. Perfect venue for an evening out either for food or just drinks. Photos of food dont do it justice, we will definitely be returning for more work celebrations.

Fantastic service here. I was lucky to get a jacket potato after 5pm. Staff were polite and kind. Food was very reasonable and tasty. They had some older people in playing their records, they kept the sound at a respectable level. Really welcoming pub, I would return if in the area.

Great traditional pub, plenty of seating inside and out. Bonus points for outdoor heating area too! Clean throughout. Dog bowls and treats so dog friendly AND welcoming! I just ordered two small bits from the menu and although just fried food, presented and tasted lovely so the chefs know what they are doing. Fantastic customer service.

The Crown Abbey is a nice traditional pub with a modern interior. There is a good choice of beers lager and cider including cask conditioned hand-pulled real ales. The cask ales we sampled on our visit were in excellent condition. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and there is outside seating.

Can't believe we've not been here before on previous visits to Shrewsbury. Firstly, a lovely, clean venue with a nice atmosphere. We arrived about 5pm on a Saturday. We arrived as a family, with children and had some great food. Very reasonable prices and the food was cooked to perfection. The staff were really friendly. Also, the beer selection on tap had some of my favourites (black sheep best bitter, Amstel) - so may well visit again without the family for a few beers!

I visited with my family for breakfast- which was wonderful. The customer service was excellent- delicious food and a lovely atmosphere. I couldn’t recommend it enough for a lovely, homely feel and good prices. I would highly recommend The Crown!

Bed & breakfast
The Mytton & Mermaid is a charming riverside hotel and wedding venue housed in a magnificent grade II listed building. The traditional pub restaurant serves fresh, high-end cuisine, and the warm rooms offer attention to detail. Guests have praised the excellent customer service, festive decorations, and beautiful surroundings. The hotel's staff are described as helpful and professional, ensuring a delightful stay for visitors.
We went for Sunday lunch with two adults and a child. The meal was one of the best I have had this year. Every component of the roast was excellent and the other adult said their vegan main (a veg Wellington) was also great. I loved the option for a small dessert with a hot drink - it was a small portion of a very rich and delicious sticky toffee pudding. Again my vegan partner found a lovely fruity tart that he could have. I especially appreciated having a jug of sparking water as an option. My child chose garlic bread followed by a tomato pasta. He enjoyed the taste but said the pasta was a funny texture. Looking at our bill it may have been gluten free - the only thing in our meal that wasn't a hit. The service was professional and unobtrusive throughout. Everything we asked for was provided efficiently and with a friendly smile - even when I should have requested it when I ordered! On another day we would have combined our meal with a visit to the wonderful Attingham Park just across the road. We loved our meal here and feel lucky to live locally so we can come back soon. Prices are probably on the high side of average but it felt worth it.

We did not stay, just went for dinner. It is lovely. It is furnished beautifully, the restaurant is large and caters to all size groups. The food is excellent, well cooked, presented very nicely, very tasty. The service is exceptional- the staff are helpful, friendly, attentive but not intrusive. Definitely an A++ from me. The only reason I have given 4 star and not 5 is that parking is very tight and the restaurant is very noisy when busy, to the point it makes conversation a tad difficult when sat in the middle of the restaurant. We both had a starter and a mains. Only soft drinks and it was £35 each, which for the quality of food and service I felt was reasonable.

Excellent food, so tasty. Had Sunday lunch then a scrumy dessert. Well worth a ride out to the countryside. Staff were so friendly. Have been a few times now.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fantastic Sunday Lunch at The Mytton and Mermaid We had an absolutely lovely experience at The Mytton and Mermaid! From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. Emily looked after us beautifully. She was warm, friendly, and incredibly attentive, striking the perfect balance between professional and personal. We all went for the Sunday roasts, and every plate was spot on from the lamb to the pork, each one was cooked to perfection, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. It’s rare to have a table where everyone is equally delighted with their choice, but this was one of those occasions! Dessert was the perfect ending the option of coffee paired with a small sticky toffee pudding was just right after a hearty meal that really completed a wonderful afternoon. A big thank you to Emily and the whole team for making our visit so enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back soon!

What a beautiful experience we have had spending the past two weeks at this beautiful lodge! Couldn’t have had better service with smiling faces and a personal favorite is the manager Stuart. He greeted us with the best hospitality, super big smile, and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. If we ever come back in the area, we will definitely stay here. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting from any part of the world. Pamela Holden Dallas Texas🩷

We had a fantastic experience at the Mytton & Mermaid. The setting itself is lovely, but what really made our visit special was the service from our host Maia. She was warm, attentive, and genuinely hardworking throughout our time there. Maia struck the perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness, always checking in at the right moments and making sure everything ran smoothly. She also gave us some excellent recommendations from the menu, which really enhanced our meal - and she was absolutely right, the dishes she suggested were spot on. It’s rare to have someone who makes you feel so well looked after, and she definitely elevated the whole evening. Thank you Maia and the team for a wonderful visit - we’ll definitely be back!

Visit for our grandsons birthday. The place was extremely busy. A negative was when we ordered drinks, we ordered a bottle of zinfandel with two glasses, they had no glasses available. Our grandson ordered a Malbec. We had to chase this up. The positives are that the food was excellent. I had and others in our party had the Sunday beef roast, this was great. Jill had the beer battered fish with fries and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Day 2

South side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the south side side of town. Start the day off with The Quarry, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to The Dingle. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

The Quarry is a picturesque riverfront green space featuring a sunken garden at its center, as well as a play area and bandstand. It's an ideal spot for leisurely strolls along the riverside, with the opportunity to admire the 1923 Porthill Footbridge and enjoy a picnic on the grassy park. The Dingle, an ornamental garden designed by Percy Thrower, adds to the charm of this Victorian-era destination.
Visited on Easter Sunday. Very clean and had a funfair which was excellent for kids and the prices were reasonable The garden area was really nice and well maintained. Also a nice and well spaced area for picnics Also plenty of areas where benches are available for people to sit and relax There is also a nice playground area next to a cafe and ice cream vendor. Toilets are also accessible and free to use. Also a really nice and relaxing walk along the river too...

I recently spent some time at The Quarry in Shrewsbury, and it’s one of those places that blends natural beauty with a relaxed, local atmosphere. As a vegetarian who enjoys peaceful green spaces and a bit of people-watching, it really hit the mark. The park is spacious—around 29 acres—but it’s laid out in a way that feels open and easy to explore rather than sprawling. The River Severn curves around it, adding a lovely waterside touch. I did a slow loop along the riverside path, and it was perfect for a gentle walk. The area had a nice community vibe with people out walking dogs, running, or just lounging on the grass. It never felt too busy, even on a nice day. I brought along a veggie wrap from a local café and found a great picnic spot by the river. There weren’t many food options directly in the park when I visited, but being close to town means you can easily grab something before heading in. The open spaces are ideal for just stretching out, relaxing, or even reading for a bit. The Quarry is also really accessible—flat, well-maintained paths make it easy for all mobility levels. It’s a great option whether you want a quiet afternoon, a scenic jog, or just a peaceful walk to unwind. I’d happily return any time I’m in Shrewsbury.

If the weather is good this is a fantastic place to come and relax after a rough day exploring this lovely town. There is plenty of room for the kids to burnnof some energy and the is also a good sized play park and a splash area.

Stepping into The Quarry feels like entering a dream woven from petals, fragrance, and sunlight. Nestled away like a secret whispered by nature, this garden is an exquisite tapestry of colors and textures, where time seems to slow and the soul feels lighter. What truly sets The Quarry apart is its breathtaking collection of flowers—most notably, the tulips. Rows upon rows of them bloom in vibrant harmony, their silky petals dancing in the breeze like brushstrokes on a living canvas. Every corner of the garden bursts with life: soft pastels, bold crimsons, and delicate whites—each tulip telling its own story. Their gentle sway under the sun is nothing short of magical. Pathways wind through curated beds and untamed patches alike, offering intimate moments with nature’s artistry. It’s easy to lose yourself here, among birdsong and the perfume of blossoms. The Quarry is more than a garden—it’s a sanctuary of beauty, a celebration of growth, and a reminder that enchantment still exists in the world. If you’re looking for a place to be inspired, calmed, or simply awed, The Quarry is a must-visit. You don’t just walk through it—you feel it in your heart.

We visited Quarry Garden by chance on our way back from Snowdonia, and it turned out to be a wonderful surprise! The park has something for everyone—open spaces, a play area, peaceful gardens, and the beautiful Dingle, a former quarry transformed into a stunning sunken garden. The suspension bridge over the River Severn is a highlight, with lovely views (and a fun little sway when you cross!). There’s also The Boathouse pub nearby with outdoor seating overlooking the river. Full of history, nature, and a warm community feel—definitely worth a visit if you’re in Shrewsbury.

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Shropshire and Staffordshire, The Boathouse is a charming riverside pub with a large wooden deck offering stunning views of the river. This mock Tudor establishment boasts exposed beams and a modern bistro menu that reflects the rich culinary heritage of the region. Whether you're looking for a casual drink with friends or a delightful dinner al fresco, this iconic spot provides an unbeatable setting.
We’ve finally found our favorite spot in Shrewsbury—and it’s The Boathouse! This place truly has it all: breathtaking views, a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and delicious food and drinks. The location is unbeatable, right by the river with picture-perfect views of the water and the bridge. On sunny days, there’s nothing better than sitting outside, soaking up the sunshine with a cold beer or cider in hand. It’s so peaceful watching the ducks and swans glide by, birds flying overhead, and people kayaking along the river. It really gives you that holiday feeling without ever leaving town. On our first visit, I tried lamb for the very first time and went for the Moroccan Lamb Tagine—absolutely packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. We also had the BH Burger, which was juicy, tasty, and very satisfying. The food overall was fantastic and clearly made with care. The staff were friendly and attentive from the bar to the table. The whole experience—from the scenic setting to the great food and top-notch service—made it one of those places you want to come back to again and again. Whether you’re local or just visiting Shrewsbury, The Boathouse is a must-visit. We enjoyed every minute spent there and will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

We were visiting Shrewsbury and looking for a restaurant with view of the river. This was highly rated. There was limited parking and we parked in the city center & walked across the Port Hill Suspension Bridge. The ambiance inside and outside the restaurant was lovely. The staff were very nice. We enjoyed the food and drinks.

The boathouse is located on the river severn, opposite the Quarry Park in Shrewsbury town centre and not far away to Porthill. The food was great, I had the Honey Roasted ham and cheddar bap with skin on fries, and it was amazing. The service was good, and the staff greeted me with a friendly smile, and the price for my order wasn't that bad for the amount of food I got. If no one has been here before, give this place a try and have a taste for yourself.

Went here on bank holiday with my partner and his family, beautiful place and nice atmosphere, the staffs were lovely and nice but the experience left me embarrassed! I had placed an order with my partner’s mom for food for 4 people. My partner and his parents food came first and for more than 10mins mine didn’t even when the order was placed at same time. Everyone was waiting for my food so we could all eat together but we kept looking but no sign of my food. My partner mom had to go ask only to find out they’ve forgotten about me. The food finally came and it looked and tasted like leftovers. I had order spaghetti with prawns as it’s was my favorite meal but that day I regretted making that order, it was so soft (overcooked or reheated for too long) it didn’t taste fresh or good. I sat there swallowing the food until I couldn’t handle it anymore. Left there hungry and angry but decided to keep my cool.
Success J — Google review
Disappointing experience. The waiting staff were doing their best but the prices did not match the quality of the food we had...6 of our 8 meals were not what they should have been...dry, overcooked, poor presentation, lacking in flavour, etc...(Eg. Shepherds pie devoid of gravy/moisture, dry/overcooked chicken Kiev, pasta sauce that wouldn't have been out of place on a supermarket shelf, etc). We stayed for desserts that were unremarkable but adequate.

The Dingle is a stunning 29-acre parkland located within Shrewsbury Quarry, offering vibrant flower gardens, grassy areas, and fountains. This recreational area has been enjoyed by the town since the 16th century and features a beautiful sunken garden at its heart. The Dingle boasts fabulous flower beds, water features, statues, and alpine borders cultivated by renowned gardener Percy Thrower.
A very special place. The gardens are very attractive and well laid out. There are sculptures spread around the place and a lovely pound with fountains. At the bottom of my hill lies a park for the children, you can also buy refreshments here. Outside the main entrance of the park is a church I would recommend you see. It's round inside, it's quite unique, the graveyard has a headstone of Ebenezer scrooge .

Stunning ! We visited on a beautiful sunny day 6.8. My wife and I had a stroll around, we had our 2 dogs on leads ( no restrictions). The gardens drop down a little so you feel as if you’re in an oasis. It is kept immaculate, praise needs to go to the gardeners. There’s a bust of the famous Percy Thrower who used to be head gardener. There’s a plenty of benches to sit down. It’s not a huge place that you’d get tired walking around, it’s just the the size. A lovely lake, an ornamental pond area at one end. Oh how I envy the locals having this place to relax in. It’s by far the very best garden we’ve ever seen and we’ve seen quite a few. Well done The Dingle and everyone who works so hard to get it to this superb standard.

The Dingle is an absolute gem in the heart of Shrewsbury’s Quarry Park. Once a quarry, it has been transformed into a beautiful sunken garden with colourful flower beds, water features, and a peaceful fountain. We were a party of 8.we had gone for Sunday lunch. What a disappointment throughout. To start one of the beers was off, they offered to replace it but it never came, eventually our friend got up and asked for it. We were left sometime to decide what we wanted, we finally ordered, then 10 mins later were told one of the items was not on offer. Finally the main meal turned up the plates and meat was cold but the vegetables arrived in separate dishes and were extremely hot! When we mentioned the meat was cold the waitress said she would get some grave to warm it up!! Now to dessert one couple ordered the same pudding but when it came they were different. Some of us ordered the Lemon Curd Meringue, when it came there was no lemon curd, so they went in the kitchen and bought out small paper cups with some lemon curd in to address the problem ourselves. This was the most appalling meal we have ever had there was a £30 service charge added which were quick to get removed and because I complained they removed the cost of the puddings. Good gesture but quite frankly too late. None of our party will be going back or recommending. Such a shame, used to be a great place to eat.

Came today with family as we had a gift voucher to use. We have never visited before. The decor was nice and bright and a very clean dining area. The food was lovely, good portion size (the pavlova is huge!) and went down well. The staff were delightful and polite the whole visit. However, the space within the dining area was quite cramped. A couple of members had to shuffle their seats to let people past, and if you have a pram or walking device with you, you may struggle to get through. Also, service was very slow. We waited quite a while to get served and to recieve our food, even with the restaurant not being particularly busy. We had a great time with our party and enjoyed the food, but it wouldn't be first choice to revisit unfortunately.

Eaten and drank here a few times recently and it was a brilliant experience every time. Food is amazing and the menu always has something for everyone. Staff are beyond lovely, attentive and extremely efficient. Top-level ambiance. Excellent taps of beer, and great alcohol free choices (alcohol free cava, beer, mocktails - you name it and they probably have an option for you.) Everything is reasonably priced, from the food to the cocktails.

What a restaurant! We ate here on Monday and it was some of the best food we’ve had in a while. Usually we don’t get our hopes up for a new recommendation, but this place exceeded expectations through the roof! The service was incredible, Molly sorted us right out. Making sure we had our drinks when we wanted them, and the other lady on the bar made fabulous cocktails! Molly attended to us with care - favourite server ever! And to top it all off, Daniel who greeted us and took us to our table was a great help. The choices on Loopy Shrew’s menu were initiative and flavoursome, holding to their expectations. Extra credit for the different choices on a the plant based menu compared to the standard ‘five bean chilli’ option. We would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a sophisticated night out :)

Stopped off here for a drink and the loo, nice seating out front in the sun. Staff were very nice, our drinks were spot on too. Nice to just chill in the sun and watching folks pass by. Yes they have toilets. This was the first coffee shop we’d spotted where we could sit outside with our dogs as we walked from the beautiful St Chads church (which is worth a quick visit) and the park (wow the Dingle garden !) Give the Loopy Shrew a visit - good service counts for everything.

Booked this as part of a river cruise and afternoon tea deal through Sabrina River Cruises. If I’m honest, the service wasn’t the best and rather slow. The bread was dry and quite hard consistent with the sandwiches being made some hours before and not being covered. I’ve just had the most delicious Sunday roast. I’m vegetarian so opted for their nutless roast - full of wonderful seeds and other yummy deliciousness. I ate late for a Sunday (7.30pm) but the joint was jumping and no wonder the food is well cooked, plentiful and fresh - even that late I enjoyed fresh Yorkshire puddings, vegetables and roast potatoes that tasted fresh out of the oven. I’m only here for a few days but hope to get back here to eat again. The food is wonderful if my nut less roast with all the trimmings was anything to go by. I washed it all down with a large glass of their Transylvanian Pinot Noir - perfect! Service was impeccable, friendly and efficient. Highly recommend

My friend and I met up for lunch here. I'd booked it some weeks ago as it looked lovely on their website. The food was delicious, and the service was second to none. We had a table overlooking the river, which was beautiful. We didn't feel rushed in any way, so all in all, it was a totally relaxing, enjoyable visit. Highly recommended.

On holiday and looked for restaurants in the area, and very happy with the choice. Absolutely beautiful food. Highly recommend the calamari starter, it was perfectly cooked, light and crispy, well seasoned, and a generous helping. The chicken and mushroom pasta in white wine sauce was particularly delicious, both rich yet still light. And the king prawn linguine was divine. Restaurant is warm and welcoming. Staff were all lovely, and very accommodating to a couple of additional needs. Definitely worth booking a table as it gets very busy in the evening. Saying that the service was still excellent, and orders were taken and food came out quickly. Cocktail menu is great and no issue with my request for an ingredient change. Gets a little noisier as the night goes on but its a popular riverfront spot on a Friday night so thats expected. Slightly more expensive than the average weeknight meal out, but worth every penny for the food and atmosphere in my opinion. Would be a great date-night. Planning on going back before we go home.

Absolutely amazing. After another local business failed us on our wedding day, The owner saved my day ❤️ We originally came for drinks before our planned meal elsewhere, and the service was amazing. We shared champagne with our close friends then left. After being told to be quiet in the other establishment (high spirits and laughter) we quickly decided we shall not be putting our money there. We returned to the riverbank, staff called the owner to let them know we had returned and if we could be accommodated, which we was and our magical day was resumed. There was nothing that was to greater for the owner and his full staff, from the minute we entered we felt welcomed. We now attend regular, along side the sister restaurants, Food at all is perfect, Staff incredible and the service is just faultless. Mrs & Mr Catterson ❤️

However, we came for my birthday and this was not acknowledged at all even was put into the booking information. No happy birthday comments or nothing which did ruin the night for me unfortunately.
