The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, also known as the Duomo di Como, is a grand cathedral that took over three centuries to build. Its palatial interior features an array of tapestries, art, and frescoes. The cathedral's construction began in 1396 and was completed in 1740.
Como Cathedral, a stunning architectural landmark near the lakeshore, commands the city’s historic center and offers a dramatic view to approaching travelers. Built between 1396 and 1744, its construction spanned centuries, blending Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles into a harmonious whole. Its proximity to the ancient Bishop’s Palace reflects Como’s historical role as a cultural and trade link between Central Europe and Italy. The Cathedral’s sculptures and paintings showcase the fusion of transalpine and Italian artistic traditions. Despite evolving styles, each phase of construction respected earlier proportions, creating a unified and timeless structure that embodies centuries of artistic expression.

Visiting the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta in Como was an unforgettable experience. The architecture is breathtaking — a perfect blend of Gothic strength and Renaissance grace. Every detail, from the grand façade to the colorful stained glass, tells a story of faith, art, and history. Inside, the peaceful atmosphere and the play of light through the windows create a sense of timeless beauty. Absolutely worth visiting — a masterpiece that captures the soul of Italy.
Hasan H — Google review
Very interesting. But what I would like is a MAP of the figures on the OUTSIDE of this structure. Clearly there are some very unique figures (not usually seen on churches), like Pliny the Younger. I would like to know more about the why each of these figures/animals were chosen and why they were placed in their current location. The construction of this Cathedral was begun in 1396 and over 300 years combined Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. What is interesting is that the cathedral in Milan was just begun 10 years before. There is a timeline of events related to the Cathedral di Sant Maria Assunta, is located inside, which is informative.
Nancylee S — Google review
I was surprised by this duomo. It is very well preserved and has an interesting way of keeping the parishioners and tourists separated while not strongly impacting either. This is the only catholic church I have been in that has the old style offering candles. Finally, make sure to take in the ceiling. The use of blue is rare.
Mark P — Google review
This cathedral is one of the most beautiful for sure I have ever seen. You can enter inside for free and also you can admire its beauty from the cafe across it. Order an aperol and enjoy stunning view. Dolce far niente 🇮🇹
Aleksandra A — Google review
The cathedral is within walking distance from the train station. It is open to tourists for praying and picture taking M-S. You can get closer to the altar past the rope to pray only. Beautiful church!
Nellie B — Google review
Lovely Cathedral situated right in the middle of the shops and market . Free entry using a separate door than the staff and people who actually pray here . Well maintained .
Adrian P — Google review
The Duomo di Como is a beautiful cathedral with a mix of Gothic and Renaissance styles. The outside is impressive, and the square around it makes it even more special. Inside, the stained glass windows, frescoes, and intricate decorations are amazing – I could stay for hours just admiring every detail. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy the art. Definitely a must-visit in Como!

Teatro Sociale, located in Como, is an elegant neoclassical theater with a frescoed ceiling. It hosts dramas, concerts, and dance performances and also offers rooms on the first floor for occasional exhibitions or private events. As one of the oldest theaters in northern Italy, it stands as a grand cultural attraction in the city. The theater was once home to Teatro alla Scala after the 1943 bombings and continues to showcase opera, music, and dance performances.

Really amazing place. I went to enjoy a night in candle light concert. Worth the visit and the price. Recommend to book first row or maximum second row tickets. Since they are all seated in a flat surface, I can’t imagine how much you manage to see from the other rows.

Beautiful theater 🎭 the decorations and the vibe is fantastic!! we went there for three days of WOHASU that required much sitting and I was very pleased with the comfortable chairs. Visibility is good. Should be visited to see the insight

An excellent program of performances, the music Festival "Como - the City of Music" held in the summer, the competition of international importance for young opera singers AsLiCo, a number of interesting projects, such as the 200com - when not only professionals but also amateurs take part in the production of the opera - all this makes the Como Theater the heart of the cultural life of the city and region.

A delightful experience watching Swan Lake for the end of the year. The theatre is adequate but the viewing experience from the top floors is greatly hindered by the presence of badly positioned columns. To get the true viewing experience for a die hard fan of the theatre, I would recommend balcony seats always in the case of Teatro Sociale.

Porta Torre, also known as Torre di Porta Vittoria, is a well-known city gate in Como, Italy. Built in 1192, it stands as an imposing fortress that defended the city's entrance. Surrounded by restaurants and shops, this historical site offers a glimpse into the original Roman fort with well-preserved medieval walls and large watchtowers like Tower Gattoni and San Vitale.
Really enjoy the wonderful time at the small town Como. I am the only senior to ride the carrousel, it seems a little boy is living in my soul. You must to ride the carrousel if you come to Como Italy.
WenHua C — Google review
Porta Torre is a stunning medieval tower located at the southern gate of Como’s old city walls. Built in 1192 to defend the city after a long war with Milan, it stands about 40 meters tall and showcases impressive Romanesque architecture. The structure was part of a larger defensive system commissioned during the time of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. While the outer side appears solid and fortified, the inner side has elegant arched openings where wooden floors once existed. A must-see for anyone interested in medieval history or architecture!
Gizem K — Google review
Absolutely love Como. This was our second of many more visits to come. Make sure to schedule time visit the Saturday market outside the wall. Otherwise the old town is delightful to walk and explore.

Beautiful tower but it is not accessible and it seems to be in bad condition. Would be much better if there was a sign explaining the history.

Standing tall and mighty, Porta Torre, also known as Torre di Porta Vittoria, is an impressive fortress that reaches a height of 34 meters. It was constructed in 1192 under the guidance of podestà Uberto de' Olevano, serving as a protective stronghold for the main entrance to the city of Como. Additionally, on Sundays, a lively flea market can be found nearby, adding to the vibrant atmosphere surrounding the area.

Tempio Voltiano is a captivating museum located in Lake Como, dedicated to honoring the renowned Italian physicist Alessandro Volta, who invented the electric battery. The temple-like structure was built in the 1920s and features six Corinthian columns and a monumental central dome, showcasing an architectural homage to ancient Rome. Inside, visitors can explore a collection of Volta's original instruments, documents, and personal items, offering an educational and cultural experience.
Beautiful Temple on the Como Lake! We really enjoyed coming here the temple was really nice & delightful. It was also a great place to shot pictures from! We would definitely come again! The views from here are really incredible!
Paul V — Google review
This was a great museum to appreciate the genius behind the first battery. It's not too big, so you can take your time going around the temple-like architecture. The staff there was very friendly. They offer a student discount.
Aqueel K — Google review
I haven't felt safe anywhere else in Italy, nor have I felt safe here. The landscaping is inadequate for a location of this caliber. People approach you in the parking lot and try to sell you things. Even though you've paid the parking fee, you're wondering if you'll give them anything. You don't want to find your window broken when you get back to your car. Vehicles with foreign license plates are especially at risk in Italy.
Asım S — Google review
A beautiful and peaceful place by the lake, full of history and inspiration. The museum is small but very well organized, offering a great insight into Alessandro Volta’s life and inventions. Definitely worth a visit while in Como
Hasan H — Google review
The Alessandro Volta Museum, also known as Tempio Voltiano, was built in honor of the great scientist and opened in 1927, at 100 years after the death of physicist and inventor Alessandro Volta, borned and died in Como. Outstanding personality on the scene of scientific life at the end of the 18th century and beginning of the 19th century, Alessandro Volta is the inventor of the first electric battery, known at that time (1800) as the "voltaic battery" or "voltaic pile". The voltaic pile opened a new era in the theory of physics, opened the way for new applied research, such as the electrolysis of water or the discovery of the magnetic effect of electric current. In recognition of his contribution to physics and electricity, in 1801, Alessandro Volta was invited by Napoleon to Paris where he was granted the status of member of the "Institut de France" and also received the title of Count... Many awards and titles brought recognition to the research work and inventions of the scientist Alessandro Volta, but perhaps the most important of these was the recognition from the community of scientists, who called the unit of measure for electromotive force and electric potential- "volt".... The rest... can be seen in the pictures...
Dorica I — Google review
Interesting building, erected in 1928 to honor life and achievements of Alessandro Volta, the famous Italian (born in Como) physicist who created the first battery. Also, the unit for electric potential Volt is named after him. On the top floor, focus is upon the life of Volta and his achievements, which are plenty. Most texts are in Italian, but at entering the museum a translation is handed out by the very friendly staff. On the ground floor, instruments used by Volta and some of his inventions are displayed. Here also, a list of the displayed items in a variety of translations is handed out on entering the museum. The building itself is beautifully located on the shore of the lake in Como. The museum is easily accessible by foot from the city center.
Jan V — Google review
An ok place. I won't suggest u to visit it. Whatever has to be seen there, I have posted it. Waste of money

Villa Olmo is a grand 18th-century neoclassical villa located on the shores of Lake Como. It was commissioned by Innocenzo Odescalchi and has hosted notable figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte and Giuseppe Garibaldi. The villa's park once featured a famous ancient tree that inspired its name. Visitors can enjoy the lakeside promenade from Villa Geno to Tavernola, passing by charming villas and taking in picturesque views.
sadly when we visited the villa was being renovated, but the gardens are beautiful, there are ample benches overlooking the lake and honestly the views up the lake are worth going for alone! look out for the water-planes taking off right in front of the villa, they're brilliant!!

A beautiful villa right in front of the lake. Didn't go to the villa but just sightseeing the park and the lake. The park is wide and beautiful, suitable to picnic or just to stroll around. It's suitable to got there on one-day trip from Milan, to experience different ambience. There is public toilet too, it's moderately clean but smelly.

I should give 5 stars, but unfortunately we found the Villa Olmo under construction. But the garden outside is still really worth the visit. Very beautiful place.

Greenway del Lago di Como is a picturesque 10 km trail along the western shore of Lake Como, perfect for leisurely walks and family outings. The route starts in Colonno and ends in Griante, passing through charming villages like Sala Comacina and Ossuccio. Along the way, hikers can admire baroque churches, traditional Italian architecture, and beautiful lakeside gardens.
Great experience, the views are incredible and the towns are just brilliant, definitely worth it. I started the way around (from Tremezzo) and I was a little bit confused with the signs around the path and got lost, I imagine doing the right way is also better. Google maps doesn't have the entire trail here, worth doing some web searching through other pages that do have it. I also add a photo of the signs all around the path that will guide you. Don't expect a sign per meter, they are really a few but just to remind you you are on the right path, they are fine. During the trekking you will find places to bathe in the lake, really really important if it is summer. If you give up at any part of the trip, try to find a bus or a ferry near where you are. For example there is a bus working all weekend that leaves you in Como city.
Carolina B — Google review
Nice walking trail which includes parts to see above or right next to the lake. Beautiful view, historical buildings, drinking water possiblies, restaurants, swimming possibilities are included.

This is a great hike on mostly paved walkways BUT my husband and I are fit, completed this entire walk in 2ish hours. It definitely has hills with some more strenuous parts. Plenty of viewpoints for rest though! If you want to make this more of a stroll, it will take 3-4 hours. You can begin at different points if you do not want to do all 7ish miles! Be warned haha

Great Hike !! Day 1 we started in Lenno after getting off the Ferry. Stepped onto the Greenway Trail, followed the signs heading North and hiked to Griante or the end of the trail. You can go further and sidewalk tour the Old Villas towards Menaggio but roadwork prevents you from getting through to Menaggio. Day 2 was a longer day, hiking to the start of the trail from the Lenno Ferry and back. This part of the trail is better marked, but a bit more challenging as you climb higher into the villages and enjoy Grand Vistas. A tasty Panini and Gelato is well deserved on the return leg. Va Bene

The perfect stroll for the day when you forget your hiking shoes for more serious trail :) Amazing views especially when the path climbs up away from the lake, Griante to Colonno with pizza/beer lunch break takes easy 5 hours

Beautiful place, and the walk. You can really enjoy places, views and the atmosphere. Path is quite easy, but I think without a children’s trolley.

Day one we started in Cadenabbia and walked to Lenno, returning to Cadenabbia. Day two we took the ferry to Lenno and walked to Colonno before returning. The way is well-marked with metal medallions in the path or signs at turns. We enjoyed seeing staid mansions, bustling commercial corners, statuesque churches, quaint villages and lively playgrounds- with the grand Lake Como in the background. Walking proved to be a great way to see the range of how people occupy this gorgeous part of Italy. Near Colono the trail medallions are more scarce.

Villa del Balbianello is a captivating 18th-century villa located in Lenno, on the picturesque Lake Como. Originally built by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, it has been home to various wealthy families and notable figures throughout history. The villa boasts a splendid loggia offering enchanting views and is adorned with breathtaking frescoes and charming gardens. Its former owner, adventurer Guido Monzino, enriched it with an exclusive art collection and artifacts from his global expeditions.
We’ve photographed several pre-wedding shoots at Villa del Balbianello, and every single time it feels like a dream. The views over Lake Como are breathtaking, and the villa itself is pure magic. In spring, the wisteria blooms beautifully across the villa, creating an even more enchanting atmosphere. Every corner is photogenic, from the iconic terrace overlooking the lake to the lush gardens. It’s truly one of the most incredible locations in Italy for a photoshoot.

A beautiful estate with a fascinating walk to and from the site. Definitely touristy but absolutely worth the visit. Be aware: Google’s “mostly flat” description is misleading—you’ll need to tackle some uphill sections, so bring good shoes.

Very beautiful and pristine villa. Everything is very manicured and clean. It is about a 2km walk from the Leno ferry terminal. Definitely some gradients so wear comfortable shoes. This villa is home to famous scenes in Star Wars and also James Bond Casino Royale.

Such an incredible place to visit if you are going to Lago di Como, I would suggest buying the tickets in advance so you can skip the wait, bring comfortable shoes, I wouldn’t recommend heels or anything like that if you do want to enjoy the most hidden places here. Very clean, it takes about 2-3 hours so see and enjoy most of the villa! Is a must!

One word – magnificent. I recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid waiting. We arrived at 10 a.m. and waited about 20 minutes in line. The villa opens at 10:00 a.m. They allow only a limited number of visitors inside, which is great because it’s not overcrowded. The ticket costs €14.

Lake Como is a most magical place. It seems as if you are in a completely remote corner of the world, one you never want to leave from. A must visit. There are cafes, restaurants, fresh markets, olive oil and pasta markets galore. All down these one lane cobblestone streets. You turn a corner and it opens into a small square With outdoor cafes setup. The lake is a Beautiful gem, with gorgeous views all around. You are surrounded by mountains and depending on the side you are on, you have a magical view of the Swiss Alps. If you want a Romantic getaway, clean eating, with some of the most melt in your mouth pasta dishes and desserts, you must visit Lake Como.

Ristorante Sociale is a charming venue located in the heart of Como, near popular shopping streets. The restaurant, housed in a building dating back to 1813 and restored in 2008, prides itself on simplicity and quality. It offers traditional Italian dishes, including Risotto con Filetti di Pesce Persico, served in stone-vaulted and frescoed rooms as well as a courtyard.
Ask for seating upstairs , it has much better vibe than downstairs. Their risottos are very good. Among the appetizers we like the dry veal the most.

He briefly informed us what to add into which dish if the food is not tasty enough for us and his service was prompt and we are very happy for his service. The prices are also very reasonable and cheaper than most restaurants.

I would highly recommend this restaurant! The food is perfect, service was good, and atmosphere was also good. I recommend the ossobucco risotto (beef spin risotto) and the fish risotto. Both local to the area and we’ll prepared. The fish risotto was surprising good, never had any risotto quite like that. Pumpkin potato soup was also very very good. (The portion was really big (we saw from the table next to us) so we asked to share one with the two of us. The restaurant was nice enough to serve in two bowls for us so we don’t look silly in the restaurant.

Best pizza in whole city, big slices (bigger than my hand, and that’s a one slice!) delicious ingredients and real Italian atmosphere. Love that, highly recommend to visit for everyone

One of the best places in Como to enjoy this unique type of pizza! It’s thicker than a traditional pizza but incredibly light, airy, and fluffy. Despite the generous portion size, the dough is so delicate that it feels perfectly balanced. The toppings are thoughtfully chosen and complement the airy texture of the crust beautifully. The flavors are truly unforgettable! The spot itself is small and cozy, so I’d recommend ordering for takeaway rather than dining in. Just writing this review has me craving it all over again—definitely a must-try!

One of the best pizzas I’ve had in Italy, we got two takeaway pizzas. They were still good for lunch the next day too! Highly recommend.

Pizza didn't taste good, had a black hair in it too. Mentioned it but they didn't seem to care. Waited forever for the pizza and customers coming afterwards got served before. Definitely not recommend.
Damina N — Google review
it used to be very good, but not anymore. The base of the pizza was not cooked well, both raw and dry. plus the crowd was unruly, rude and very noisy. never again.
Davis M — Google review
A good pizzeria that serves quality food at affordable pricing! The pizza here is on the thicker side but its also crispy on the bottom generous on the cheese! What else one can asked for? One of the better pizza I ever had.

This place is a must visit in Como. Food is excellent, tasty and authentic, portions are large, prices are cheap, staff is very friendly and service is quick! Don't expect fancy interior or a terrace with a nice view - in fact this place doesn't need that at all, it has to be like it is. If you are trying to avoid those typical touristic restaurants in Como then add that extra 5 minutes for a walk and please visit this place!
Tõnn T — Google review
Delicious pizza, different prices for eat-in and takeaway (cheaper by roughly 1 eur). 1/4 of a whole pizza is more than enough for 1 person. We paid for 1/2 of Margharita, bottle of water and a coffee 20 euros in total which is really fair imo.

Amazing food with high attention to details on the plate but also in the service. Friendly staff and nice wine pairing. A must do in Como

Incredible experience as one would expect a michlin star restaurant to provided Impeccable service by staff Food, we opted for the 6 course menu, was intriguing and delicious Slightly difficult to fin but given the central location it is more accessible than some of the other fine dining restaurants. Very good price considering service and food

Not a must come back type of restaurants. Service was good. Good dish presentation. Taste was slightly too salty. Food portions were generous and they were too big for Chinese like us. Restaurant signage was too small & too subtle in a late evening. Price was very reasonable. We spent Euro 170 for two persons with two glasses of wine. The wines recommended were good. Overall rating was 3.8 stars.

A wonderful culinary experience. The sommelier provided a thought provoking selection of wines that complimented each course in amazing fashion. The service staff is attentive and knows the menu well. Although the cost is not inexpensive, overall dinner is a great value. Highly recommended!

Incredible food, Amazing experience. We had a Dom perignon tasting. We brought our own wine, paid a decent corkage fee, and the chef paired 8 amazing dishes with it. Italian food with a twist, playful and incredibly tasty

Love this place for many reasons and have been there twice now in two visits to Como over the past months. (1) the creativity given to Italian dishes... you recognize the Italian art and dishes, but all come enhanced with some “exotic/ new world elements” or some French/ UK twists (bringing fruits into pasta) - my favorite the avocado/ basil/ scallops risotto (2) a beautiful wine menu, with a great selection of open wines too... Nebbiolo all the way, but not only! (3) the staff is also quite attentive to special requirements... only minus, it’s rather exposed depending on where you sit - so for a romantic night ask for the front more private / lower lighting tables

Nestled in Como, Ostello Bello Lake Como is a relaxed hostel offering simple rooms and dorms. It's conveniently situated near the Ferry Terminal and the Cable Car Como-Brunate, providing easy access to explore Lake Como and its surrounding towns. The hostel boasts high user ratings for its cleanliness and location. Guests can enjoy free breakfast and dinner, as well as amenities such as private bathrooms, a kitchen, a terrace, a garden, and an on-site restaurant.
I only spent one night at this hostel but I had a great stay. Since the atmosphere is super social, it was easy to meet new people there. The rooms are clean. They offer the possibility to lock your luggage there after checking out. It's close to the old town, the port, train station and supermarket. I would recommend this hostel to everyone who visits Como and likes to meet new people!

Staying at Ostello Bello Como truly felt like being at home. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming — full of comfort, good vibes, and amazing people. Everything is clean, cozy, and beautifully organized. A special shout-out to Adriano — he’s simply the best! Friendly, kind, and always ready to help with a smile. He really made my stay unforgettable. If you’re in Como, this is the best place to stay — you’ll feel part of a family from the moment you arrive. ❤️

Clean rooms & bathroom and comfy beds. They had kept tampons, moisturizer, sanitary pads in all women's room which was a well thought addition :-) Loved it! Well maintained kitchen. Was surprised to see they offered free pasta & few other basic ingredients for the clients. This even 5 star hotels don't do. Only challenge : Rooms are available in 1st, 2nd & 3rd floor but there are no lifts. That Should be mentioned in the website. I had my workout lugging my 20kgs suitcase 2 floors up when i checked in. Lively atmosphere with amazingly friendly staff :-) You don't get this customer service in best of the star hotels too. It's also close to the ferry point & train station. True value for money :-)

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in! The location is perfect! Just steps away from a 24/7 Carrefour Market. Everything was spotless, the amenities were great, and the staff were absolutely amazing, super friendly and always willing to help. Adriano C. was especially helpful, along with many others who made my stay feel so welcoming. Highly recommend!!!

The staff was great here and the common areas are cool. Good location to walk around Como. Appeals to a younger crowd and the bar will be lively. I stayed 2 nights in a 6-bed room and unfortunately I could not wait to leave. Good people, but the room was worn out, some fixtures not working. The bed frames have metal storage bins under them which cause obnoxious screeching noises when being accessed. I personally do not like when hostel bathrooms are located in the room, especially when the door is right next to my head and ventilation is poor. The shower is at floor level, causing sloppy wet floors. The bathroom overall was approaching dingy. There was only one common-area bathroom available for this section as far as I could tell. I also got bit at night with a suspiciously linear set of bites. I can't confirm I saw any, but I strongly suspect. Not the worst experience here, but I think they could do way better specifically with improving the rooms.

By far the best hostel experience I've had while travelling. The location is perfect and it's the main activity hub for travellers to Como. The staff are awesome. Especially Adriano, who even offered to take us on a free walking tour of the city! Definitely recommend staying here if you're on a budget or just want to meet new people!

Perfect for solo travelers. A very sociable Hostel. This is what every hostel should be like. They host activities every night so it’s very easy to meet new people. Also locals go to the bar here, so it’s not just tourists. A bit expensive in comparison to other hostels, but there’s also free food of good quality. It’s worth it.

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Orrido di Bellano, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to I Giardini di Villa Melzi. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Located in the small town of Bellano, just a train station away from Varenna, Orrido di Bellano is a 15 million-year-old gorge with a series of waterfalls and footbridges anchored on high walls. The narrow valley offers a refreshing escape from the summer heat as visitors stroll along the rocky walls and through beautiful caves and grottoes formed by the River Pioverna.
Bellano, a charming lakeside village on the eastern shore of Lake Como, is known for its authentic Italian atmosphere and scenic beauty. Beyond its colorful streets and serene waterfront, Bellano is home to the dramatic Orrido di Bellano, a natural gorge carved by the rushing waters of the Pioverna River. The gorge, with its narrow rock formations, cascading waterfalls, and centuries-old legends, offers visitors a breathtaking walk along suspended pathways—a striking contrast to the calm elegance of the lake. Bellano is a hidden gem where nature, history, and tranquility meet.

This was a relatively short experience, but the place is absolutely beautiful and we really loved it! Parking is limited to one hour, but honestly, an hour is just enough time to enjoy the visit. Definitely worth visiting!
Leigh S — Google review
Bought tickets online prior to our visit so you could skip the ticket office and go straight to the entrance. Before arriving we were lucky to find a parking spot, but I think it can be a problem for some to find a spot. The Orrido is a relatively short attraction but definitely worth the money (€7,5 per adult). Very beautiful and impressive so a big recommendation from me.
Martin A — Google review
Orido di Bellano may be a short walk, but it’s absolutely worth visiting. You don’t have to just rush through it — it’s one of those places where you can simply stop, take a breath, and really look. The waterfalls, the cliffs, the light — it’s all so beautiful and powerful when you give yourself the time to take it in. We noticed that many people just walk through quickly, take a photo or two, and move on. But honestly, it’s worth slowing down — standing still and really absorbing the view makes all the difference. It felt like a bit of a hidden gem. We got there using local public transport, which also gave us a discount on the entrance fee. It wasn’t crowded at all, and the whole experience felt calm and memorable — actually one of our favorite, more peaceful memories from Lago di Como. Bellano itself was also super charming — much quieter than some of the more famous towns in the area, and honestly, I enjoyed it more for exactly that reason.

Located on a promontory overlooking Varenna in the center of Lake Como, Castello di Vezio is a 12th-century castle with a rich history as a military outpost. It offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding villages from its main tower and garden. The castle provides tours of its dungeons, features a falconry, and boasts a garden adorned with statues.
Breathtaking views, beautiful garden, lovely scenery, definitely worth a visit. One of my favorite places here in Lake Como. It's also relatively small so you can really take your time enjoying everything and you don't have to stress about missing something. It's fun for people of all ages but bear in mind that there is a bit of a walk from the car park to the tower. It's not the easiest walk either, up and down on the pebbled pathway. It's not for people with physical hindrance.
Snowbird . — Google review
Castello di Vezio is a scenic and well-preserved medieval fortress above Varenna, offering some of the most stunning panoramic views over Lake Como. The climb up is a bit steep, but worth it for the peaceful gardens, the mysterious ghost sculptures scattered around the grounds, and the historic tower with medieval artifacts inside. There’s also a small botanical garden and occasional falconry shows. A perfect mix of history, nature, and quiet charm—highly recommended for a relaxed visit away from the crowds.

Worth the visit. You can drive up close to the castle, with very few spots, still have to walk few minutes. They have senior tickets 4 euro, so that was great. The views are indeed excellent. The owl in the cage is unnerving, not sure why it's there.

Unbeatable panorama views of Lake Como! This is a must visit. The hike up is difficult, 30m of just steep uphill. But it’s well worth it. Came in Sept on weekend and it wasn’t busy at all. Also a very nice cafe and bathroom

A stunning and well-preserved castle. While not particularly large, its simplicity adds to its charm. The hike to reach it took about 45 minutes, but it was absolutely worth it. There is an alternative route for those arriving by car, but I opted to walk for a more authentic experience. The view of Lake Como was indescribable! Visited in September. Entry was €7.
Juliana L — Google review
Such a lovely spot with incredible views over Lake Como. The castle itself is full of charm and we even saw a beautiful owl on site, which made the visit extra special. The walk up the hill is a bit steep so you’ll definitely feel it but it’s absolutely worth it once you reach the top!
Magdalena S — Google review
Amazing views! Absolutely worth going there😍 but the climb to the castle is steep and it takes approximately 30 minutes, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and have water! in the ticket office you can buy drinks and snacks (we had a very yummy hot chocolate ☺️) and there're places to sit. Moreover, there's a picnic area

Castello di Vezio is a charming little castle above Varenna. The garden is peaceful and well kept, and the views over Lake Como are absolutely stunning. Villa Monastero is a historic waterfront mansion located in the Province of Lecco, boasting terraced gardens adorned with statues. The villa is a major attraction due to its rich history, picturesque landscape, and various services offered on the premises. The House Museum within the estate showcases opulent 1800s decor across 14 fully furnished rooms, providing visitors with an immersive experience. Additionally, the villa houses a renowned Conference Centre that has hosted physics lessons by Nobel Prize winner Enrico Fermi.
Easily one of the most beautiful places I've been. There was a crowd (we visited in September), but it was manageable and didn't bother us too much. Entry was quick and efficient and for 7 euro (13 for regular entry but still) you get access to arguably the most gorgeous views you would have seen in your life.

The gardens are absolutely stunning and the views of Lake Como are unreal — definitely a must-visit for photo lovers! Dress cute, this place is made for dreamy pics. We bought tickets online and skipped the line. The villa interior isn’t super impressive, but the outdoor beauty makes it 100% worth it.

This is truely a lovely villa. The setting on the north end of Varenna is perfectly quiet. Property is between the road and Lake Como allowing for a magical stroll along the water. The property seemed a little worn. After a couple of days of train the paths suffered from large puddles making passage distracting on some portions. Other features were closed for repairs. The house was a treat and more intimate than some of the other villas we visited. Be sure to visit the exhibit room under the where you'll get your tickets and enter property. They have a fine audio and visual show that allows you to chose topics on the family and property history of the villa as well as the garden and it's flora. We visited in the second half of September but I can imagine Villa Monastero in blume is just amazing.

nice place. if you want to walk through the garden, it is worth spending 2 hours. there is a queue at the popular places to take pictures and you can't even look at it if you don't wait. difficult with a stroller. It's worth going in the morning, there's no line, there are fewer people

One word – magnificent. I recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid waiting. We arrived at 10 a.m. and waited about 20 minutes in line. The villa opens at 10:00 a.m. They allow only a limited number of visitors inside, which is great because it’s not overcrowded. The ticket costs €10

This is the most beautiful place I have ever been on Earth and I mean that. Wow just wow. The gardens are incredibly stunning and well kept and I probably took hundreds of photos here. Do not skip this place if you are in Varenna and spend some time here I promise it’s worth it!!! So much gorgeous scenery it felt like I was inside a pinterest board. If you are walking here from where the ferry drops you off make sure to walk along the path right next to the water with the red fence for some of the best views of the lake and then at the end head up one of the streets/stairs to get to the villa entrance.

We had a fabulous day at Villa Monastero, where every inch felt intentionally designed and beautifully maintained. The atmosphere was serene and tranquil, with stunning architecture all around—the elegant pillars, soaring arches, and vibrant flower displays made it a feast for the eyes. We visited in mid-June, when the temperature reached 34°C, yet there were plenty of shaded spots to pause and enjoy the scenery. One of our favourite moments was sitting at a picnic bench under the shade, having some snacks while taking in the spectacular lake views. The café on site offers refreshments, and there is one toilet for each gender. Both were beautifully prepared and spotless, which was a welcome detail. The combination of breathtaking views, peaceful atmosphere, and architectural beauty made Villa Monastero a truly memorable experience. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, breathe, and simply enjoy the beauty of Lake Como. Kids go free

Extended stay hotel
Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is a luxurious hotel located in Bellagio, Italy. The hotel offers elegant rooms and a range of upscale amenities including a spa, bars, and two restaurants. Guests can also enjoy the hotel's pools and access to a private beach on the lake. The property has an interesting history and is currently owned by the Rockefeller Foundation, serving as a creative retreat for artists, writers, and scientists.
Our stay at this magnificent villa on Lake Como was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the impeccable service and the dedication of the entire staff. The interiors are absolutely stunning — refined, elegant, and perfectly in line with the timeless charm of the villa. The restaurant deserves special mention: the cuisine was exquisite, every dish a delight, and the cocktail menu in the bar was both creative and sophisticated. We were also touched by the thoughtful birthday celebration, which made our experience even more memorable. The service was flawless throughout the day. The waiters, dressed in white stockings and bow ties from morning until evening, brought an exceptional sense of refinement and harmony that perfectly matched the villa’s interiors and atmosphere. If there was one slight disappointment, it was the attitude of some fellow guests. Unfortunately, many did not follow the dress code recommendations that had been clearly communicated at the time of booking. It was a shame, as this lack of consideration diminished the otherwise consistent sense of elegance and exclusivity of the place. Overall, however, our experience at this villa was absolutely outstanding — a true example of luxury hospitality at the highest level.
Marina N — Google review
I had such high expectations staying at Villa Serbelloni, but unfortunately the experience was very underwhelming. The one thing that is truly outstanding is the location, it is absolutely beautiful and cannot be faulted. However, for a five-star property, the service and staff experience fell far short. Coming from a five-star hotel in Switzerland just before this stay, the contrast was stark. At Villa Serbelloni, there was no real sense of welcome or warmth, often no greeting, no effort to make you feel special. For example, when sitting by the pool, not even being offered complimentary water when towels are handed out felt surprising and completely unacceptable for a hotel of this level. The staff were not rude, but they were also far from attentive, polished, or genuinely welcoming. And that’s what makes the difference between a hotel simply having five-star facilities versus delivering a true five-star experience. I had been looking forward to this as one of the highlights of our European trip, but sadly it ended up being one of the most disappointing. If what you want from a five-star stay is to feel valued, wowed, and taken care of, this is not the place.

From the moment of arrival, guests are enveloped in an atmosphere of regal elegance, where history and modern comfort coexist in perfect harmony. The interiors exude sophistication, with each space meticulously designed to reflect both heritage and contemporary style. My suite offered the utmost comfort, enhanced by modern amenities and breathtaking views that seemed to merge seamlessly with the lake beyond. Service at Villa Serbelloni is exemplary , attentive yet discreet. Every member of the staff demonstrates genuine warmth and professionalism, ensuring that each guest feels not only welcomed but truly cared for. The breakfast experience deserves special mention: an exquisite array of delicacies enjoyed in a sunlit setting that overlooks the shimmering waters of Lake Como. It felt less like a meal and more like a dream. The views from the property are simply incomparable a living painting of deep blue water framed by majestic mountains. Each moment spent gazing across the lake felt serene and unforgettable. Villa Serbelloni is more than a hotel; it is an experience of timeless beauty and unparalleled luxury. For those seeking the pinnacle of elegance on Lake Como, this magnificent retreat is beyond compare.

My wife and I recently completed a five-night stay at the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni as part of our honeymoon and could not be happier with the experience. The property is stunning, pictures and descriptions simply do not do it justice, and the staff could not have been kinder or more attentive. While Bellagio itself can feel crowded with visitors during the day, the hotel is a serene oasis, allowing guests to enjoy the town at its best in the calm of the mornings and evenings. Our stay was flawless, and we are already looking forward to returning.

By far the best hotel in Bellagio. From the Michelin-starred Mistral restaurant to the elegant rooms, private beach club, and even the famous diving board, every detail is exceptional. The privacy of the property makes it feel truly exclusive, as only guests can enter past the gate. But the reason this hotel is number one on our list in every category is the people who elevate your experience day in and day out. Over the two weeks our family stayed at the Grand Hotel Villa, the high standard set and met by the dedicated and hard working staff was prevalent each and every day. From the concierge, to the waiters, to the pool staff, to the cleaners, the kindness and commitment of this staff team to create a comfortable and welcoming environment made our experience a 10/10. We became especially close with and Annabel, Giuseppe, Samuele, Anna, Emilio, and Oumo, whose hospitality and service made our days on the lake unforgettable. I Giardini di Villa Melzi, located in Bellagio, Italy, is a stunning botanical garden surrounding the 19th-century neo-classical mansion of Villa Melzi d'Eril. The garden features picturesque trails, statues, pavilions, and breathtaking views of Lake Como. While the villa itself is not open to the public, visitors can explore the serene botanical gardens and capture its beauty through leisurely strolls or specialized tours.
This place is mesmerizing. Happy by just walking around the garden and taking few pictures. There are two exits. You can go out and return by asking the staff to stamp on your wrist. There’s entrance near the port, very easy to walk to this place. We did not buy the ticket in advance since we saw the notice in the booking website that we need to be in line to get ticket anyway. Luckily, there was no queue, I believe because we visited during weekday in the afternoon (Oct 6). Not too many people there. Recommend!

It’s a very beautiful garden right on the lake. I don’t mind paying 10€ just to walk through the park because it does take some work to maintain the garden. It’s a nice place, there’s a museum too. However you cannot enter the main villa and it’s just not that amazing overall. It’s still a great place to be away from the touristy centro of Bellagio

Nice place to stroll in Bellagio! The garden is super well-kept and even has tropical plants like banana trees 🍌🍌🍌 Great for photos, an afternoon walk, or just to chill after lunch. Worth a visit if you’re around!

Beautiful place for a 45-60 minute walk, to have the full experience. Nice walking paths along the garden with various plants and trees. All this goes along the Como lake waterfront.

Opening hours are daily 10 am to 6:30 pm. The gardens are closed in the winter time. In 2025 it will close on Oct 31st and will reopen in March 2026. Cost is 10€ you buy tickets at the gates. 2 gates entry one on each side. Located in the town of Bellagio on lake como. Parking is limited as the town of Bellagio is very popular in the summer.

The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and so well cared for. Everywhere you look, there’s beautiful greenery and an incredible variety of trees. It’s such a peaceful, stunning place to walk through. If you’re visiting Bellagio, this is a must see. I highly recommend making time for a visit.

Gorgeous gardens with different small hiding places and paths. Beautiful scenery, amazing views, you can really unwind and soothe your soul here. If you're into gardens you can't miss this one. If you're not so much into gardens, you should still visit this one.

Villa Melzi is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. The gardens are immaculate, peaceful, and filled with stunning colors, especially in spring. Every path reveals something new—ancient trees, vibrant flowers, classical statues, and breathtaking views of the lake. The atmosphere is serene and elegant, perfect for a relaxing stroll or quiet reflection. The neoclassical villa adds a timeless charm, and the small museum and chapel offer fascinating historical insight. The combination of nature, art, and history is truly unique. It felt like walking through a living painting.

Ristorante Mistral is an upscale dining venue located within the luxurious Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, offering a creative and elevated Italian-inspired cuisine. With its breathtaking views of Lake Como and the surrounding mountains, this Michelin-starred restaurant provides a unique dining experience. Directed by Chef Ettore Bocchia, known for his expertise in molecular cuisine, Mistral presents a diverse menu that combines traditional and innovative recipes using seasonal ingredients.
My husband and I went here for our 20th wedding anniversary and it was the most spectacular meal. We’ve been to a number of Michelin rated restaurants and this one surpasses them all. The service was impeccable the second we walked in and the views were absolutely breathtaking. The meal itself was extremely memorable. My husband had a shellfish appetizer that was a piece of art and also delicate and delicious. The peacock tortellini was otherworldly and the veal loin presentation was perfection. Service was responsive but not overbearing. It will be a meal I remember for the rest of my life.

This place has a very good menu selection and the food is great. Not sure why people are posting prices to be very expensive because it is not. Appetizer, main course, drink and water was about €39. The manager and the wait staff were marvelous, very attentive and helpful. Definitely recommend it.
PJ S — Google review
We had the pleasure of dining at Ristorante Mistral and it was a fantastic experience. The tasting menu was full of creativity and flavour, beautifully presented from start to finish. The service was on another level – attentive, professional and genuinely warm, which made the evening feel even more special. It’s not an everyday place as it comes with a Michelin price tag, but for a memorable occasion it’s absolutely worth it. The atmosphere has a unique charm that stays with you long after you leave.
Paul S — Google review
Ristorante Mistral is one of the best restaurants you’ll find in Bellagio. We opted for the seven course tasting menu which was modified to accommodate my dietary restrictions without diminishing the gastronomy experience. I tried everything from fois gras to peacock. The signature dessert was a nice treat at the end of service—liquid nitrogen ice cream made right in front of you! Overall, the menu was creative and packed with flavor, the service was white glove and ambiance was beautiful. The views of the lake were breathtaking and I loved the live piano performance you can hear from the hotel lounge area. If you’re in Lake Como for a special occasion, I highly recommend making a reservation here.

This place was amazing. This review is about the hotel bar and Mistral the restaurant. The bar - the attention was fabulous. My husband ordered a gin and tonic. They said there is an experience with it. So they sprayed aromas and added floral pieces into his drink. He said it was delicious. They brought us some aperitif to have while we ate. Mistral. Worth every penny. Every course is explained to you. Our food and fishes were delicious. You can. Goose a preset 5 course meal or do it ala cart. They changed our napkins 3 times. They would refill our water as soon as we put it down. If I left they would put my napkin back in my lap. There were no gaps in service. Ur all flowed well. It was a few hours with the most spectacular view of Lake Como and 5 star food. If I ever return, I will definitely return.

A little about the tasting menu (€250 per person) and related service if you are curious. Overall had a great time, but I have to mention the key points for people: The tartar with caviar (1st course) was on point. The peacock was not able to be tasted because it was drenched in seasoning and broth, which made it taste like pork. The grouper fish was overcooked making the texture squeaky rather than softly melting. The chef or the assistant needs to regain tastebud because their salting is way off. The waitress is very nice, the one with M tattoo on her neck behind ear, but had trouble explaining all the food in detail and her pronunciation was hard to understand as if she wanted to get away with saying it fast. The table experience was off as stains were not immediately covered and breadcrumbs were not removed in a timely manner. The pigeon was also on point and salted correctly. They shouldn’t have fried the gnocco with greens for the welcoming menu, because this is cheap taste. Let’s hear other people out and see if they deserve to maintain the one Michelin star. I think they need to be inspected. Important 💔: The manager who is tall and bald had claimed that the two corner tables in the forefront of lakeview were booked six months in advance, but it was discovered that this was an exaggeration according to guests. This small lie made me mistrust the peacock and the related explanation. Overall, satisfied with the ambience and the view and the mood. Not so much the excellence of the food. It is possible the chef was absent and the manager is too egotistical as a result.

Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. Friendly and professional staff. Beautiful piano music. Fabulous somaliere. Strongly recommended.
Line M — Google review
This place is so overrated. Our waitress was clearly annoyed she had a table of 2 women and not a 60+ year old man with a 25 year old girlfriend. The whole place is super stuffy but not even in a classic cool way. The food was very mediocre considering what you pay. Quality seemed low compared to any other place in the area and the vibe was comparable to a funeral. The wine is actually decently priced for good bottles which was the only upside. The view is nice but we were seated behind the front row (maybe because we were two women and no men but I don’t want to make assumptions). Although there were 3 empty tables on the front row for an hour after we were seated. If you want to pay $300+ for a below average meal to show off then this is your spot. If you actually want a good dinner and experience then would not recommend.

Bistrot Antichi Sapori is a charming and timeless place with a cozy and intimate atmosphere, surrounded by flowers, plants, and architectural elements. It's one of the most popular restaurants in Como, offering delicious breakfast, lunch specials during weekdays, and dinner. The bistro serves a variety of Italian dishes from pasta to salads with large and affordable portions. The focus is on showcasing the importance of food in Italian tradition.
We ordered the ham/artichoke pizza and the Truffle pasta. The pizza was good, not the best but tasty. But the star of the show was the Truffle pasta, absolutely delicious. We also had very good service and the prices was fair for Bellagio. Would recommend to go here. We also could get seat right away, while restaurant next door had a line.

We stopped here for lunch while visiting Bellagio. My daughter and I had the pasta bolognese and it was very tasty. My wife ordered a salad with shrimp. My mother enjoyed the minestrone soup- it was a very large portion. And my son had the spaghetti with garlic and hot pepper. He enjoyed it a lot. I also enjoyed the house red wine- a great value. I’d come back again.

We ordered the spaghetti carbonara, mixed salad, fries and the ham artichoke pizza. Carbonara was very salty, hard to eat. Fries and salad were good. pizza was just ok. Friendly service.

I had one of the best diavolo pizza here, it tasted fantastic, loved it, same for the pasta. The place is quit busy but we received our order pretty quickly. The price was similar to surrounding restaurants, fully recommended place to eat 😉 One extra toilet would be nice to avoid the queue, but this is just a note.

I like the pizza with ham and artichoke — the crust is crispy and delicious. The pasta tastes good, the prices are reasonable, and the food comes out quickly.

Amazing! Very fast service, we waited in a queue that was looking a bit long but it was also moving very quick. We ordered two pastas, two spritzs and tiramisu - til this day I thought I didn't liked tiramisu. It was delicious. The prices are reasonable for a place that beautiful!🥰🥰🥰

This is hands down the best restaurant we ate at on the entire lake Como, and we stayed here 2 weeks trying a different restaurant everyday. Don’t be deterred by the simple decor of this place. It really is a hidden gem in the corner of an ally, with the best service and food we had. The carbonnara is by far the best authentic carbonara (guanciale and pecorino) on the lake for a great price. We also had the steak, tomato pasta, Parma ham bruschetta, blueberry and talleggio (amazing) pasta, and seafood pasta as well as the bresaola pizza and all were remarkable! We came back on our last night for my birthday and the entire team came out to sing me a very loud and enthusiastic happy birthday, it made my day 😊. Thank you to everyone who was working on the night of August 29th 😁

Caffe Varenna is a charming lakeside cafe located in Varenna, offering a rustic ambiance and a delightful terrace overlooking the water. It's known for serving pasta and aperitifs, making it an ideal spot to enjoy Italian cuisine while taking in scenic views of Lake Como. Visitors can easily reach Caffe Varenna by taking the car ferry from Menaggio to Varenna. Additionally, the cafe is praised for its friendly staff and great location.
This place is right below our Airbnb. We’ve been here 3 days and have eaten here 3 times - twice for breakfast and once for dinner. Service has been great! Food has been better than expected. Get dessert at dinner and get a made fresh croissant for breakfast! Eggs, yogurt, and more available! Location is amazing!

Stopped by Varenna Café Bistrot for a quick break. The pistachio and berry tart and coffee were just okay—nothing exceptional, but still enjoyable. What really stood out were the serene views, which made for a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The service was a bit slow, which took away from the overall experience slightly, but the setting definitely made up for it. A nice spot to unwind by the water, just be prepared for a bit of a wait.

The ambience is unbeatable! The view of the Lake Como with the sun setting is mesmerizing. The Carbonara and tortellini was good but not amazing. The cocktails complimented the food good well. The service was courteous too..

The location by the lake is absolutely stunning. Our waiter was friendly, fun, and gave excellent recommendations for drinks—perfect if you want an authentic Italian experience. Both the main courses and desserts were delicious—simple, pure, and very satisfying. We especially enjoyed the saffron risotto and the Bolognese tortellini. Highly recommended!

Magical place for breakfast/lunch/dinner. At the foot of the Lago de Como, it is inspiring place. The coffee shop is a mix of sophistication with the town italian style that makes it truly worth to visit. The waiters are attentive and polite. I highly recommend this restaurant.

No frills- solid food at fair prices with one of the best views in town. We ordered bruschetta, which was two large thick slices of bread with very tasty toppings. They also offer regional wines that they will recommend if you ask. And if you like negronis, definitely order their green negroni! It was one of the best I’d had- still bitter and balanced but a little more herbaceous.

Varenna Caffè Bistrot became our go-to breakfast spot—and for good reason! The menu offered a delicious variety of options, from fresh pastries to hearty plates, all beautifully prepared. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, with lovely views of the lake. Best of all, the service was consistently excellent—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. It was the kind of place that made mornings feel special. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy a great breakfast in a beautiful lakeside setting.

Nestled in the picturesque town of Bellagio, Ristorante Bilacus offers a delightful culinary experience that captures the essence of Italian cuisine. Guests can savor exquisite risottos and handmade pasta, complemented by an array of fresh fish sourced from local waters. The restaurant boasts a charming vine-covered terrace, providing a serene setting to enjoy your meal while sipping from an extensive selection of Italian wines.
Incredible high-end Italian food and atmosphere. As an American, the pasta and lamb chops were unlike anything I have ever had. I highly recommend for a fine dining experience here in Belagio.

The restaurant was beautiful and the staff were great, but the food was very average. Would not recommend to someone looking for a culinary experience; the beef tartare was good but our other dishes lacked flavour.
Boaz F — Google review
We’ve been coming to this restaurant for over 25 years. Back then it was all about the great food, the beautiful garden, and the charm of the place. Fast forward to today — and suddenly we’re in what feels like the company canteen: food that makes you wonder if the chef quit mid-service, staff who treat friendliness as optional, and prices that seem to have been launched into orbit (tripled!). The “menu” is now just a couple of prefixed, standardized options — because apparently choice is overrated. And honestly? It now feels more like a fast-food chain than a real restaurant. The charm is gone, and the Italian soul that once made this place special has been lost forever. What was once the perfect insider tip for good food is now more of a caution sign: enter at your own risk. After 25 years of loyalty, we’ll be loyal somewhere else. Never again.
Heinz Z — Google review
Ristorante Bilacus was so good we came here twice—once for lunch and then dinner the following day. The staff is incredibly kind. The restaurant is located on a rooftop under a grape vine terrace. When I inquired about the grapes, the server pulled a few off the vines to allow us to try and explained the variety in such great detail. It was one of the few places in Bellagio where I felt like the staff was proud of the food and experience they were providing. For lunch, I recommend the burrata of course. The caserecce with fish sauce was delicious as well as the tagliolini with candied tomato sauce. For dinner the tagliolini with black truffle was fine, but on the plain side. The stars of the night are definitely their catch of the day and grilled meat of the day. They are large enough for 2-4. When I say large, I mean LARGE. There’s a beautiful presentation of the fish/meat before they debone and cut off to the side. They’re happy to let you record the deboning as it’s quite the spectacle. Highly recommend making a dinner reservation if you find yourself in the center of Bellagio!
KJ J — Google review
The meal was one of the best we had in Bellagio, a town not necessarily known for its food. The wait staff and service were friendly, welcoming, and professional. Highly recommend the seafood pasta, translated as fish pasta on the menu but loaded with all sorts of shrimp, mussels, and other assorted goodies. My partner had the duck breast and said it was delicious. I would have weighed in but he ate it before I could get a taste!
Steven D — Google review
We had amazing dinner at the Bilacus. Food was excellent (black truffle tagliolini was finger licking), service is great, their wine menu is very impressive. And cherry on the cake: we had a table overlooking the famous Bellagio staircase during sunset. Beautiful.
Nicolas B — Google review
After reading the positive reviews, we decided to have lunch here. The staff gave a warm welcome, and we liked the vibe and atmosphere of the restaurant. My fish and my pasta were delicious.
MrsWayfarer — Google review
The food and ambience were excellent — beautifully prepared dishes in a lovely setting. Unfortunately, the service was dismissive and entitled, which really took away from the experience. On top of that, we were charged €3 just for asking for an extra plate — not for splitting a dish, but simply for the plate itself. It felt unnecessary and unwelcoming. The wine list is enormous but almost unusable for non-locals; very few options are available by the glass, so you’re forced to rely entirely on the sommelier’s suggestions. Bellagio is a tourist hub, and it shows: the restaurant seems to rely on its location and assumes guests will tolerate this kind of treatment.

Villa Carlotta is a stunning 17th-century villa located on the shores of Lake Como, near the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. The villa boasts beautiful gardens and a remarkable botanical park with an impressive variety of rhododendrons and azaleas. Commissioned by Marquis Giorgio II Clerici, it features a neoclassical style with works by renowned artists such as Canova, Tiepolo, and Hayez.
Took the train to Varenna, then the boat and got off at Lenno. From Lenno we hiked to the villa following the lake shore (approx 4 km) This is a great hike, easy to make and not exhaustive. The only caveat is that there is a section of the hike that follows the road. Visited on Monday. Started with the gardens as there was a storm cloud on the lake and wanted to cover the gardens and move inside if the rain moved onto the place. The gardens are extensive and beautiful. The rhododendrons were in peak bloom (mid May). The Villa itself is also impressive, well curated and maintained. Overall a great small museum as a time capsule ot a different era. The cafeteria has gelato, panini and excellent beer. What else do you need beyond that. We entered the museum at 3:00 pm and left just after 6:pm. The combined ticket for the gardens and the villa is €15/p. Good value.

An absolute architectural, botanical and historical marvel of the last 500 years. The grounds of the villa are absolutely gorgeous - fountains sculptures, and perfectly manicured floral heaven. The garden is truly remarkable with how much variety of plants there are and also the way it's been maintained. For the building itself, nothing short of extraordinary - the design and architecture is impressive. There is so much history and craftsmanship behind this place.

Villa Carlotta was beautiful (the villa, gardens, and views) and informative. I decided to get the audio guide as well and I'm very happy I did. It made walking through the gardens more immersive and, at some points, even had me emotional. The gardens can be strenuous in certain points from multiple steps and steeper climbs but the shade provided a lot of nice cover from the hot Italian sun. Additionally, the property has three different routes available: whole, quick, and wheelchair accessible. The Villa itself is full of history and allows you to see artworks and historical preservation. Will be a historical place I visit again next time I am in Lake Como.

Great place to visite. We even met a nice photographer who offer us free service. The villa is very BIG. Take your time to visit. Maybe 3 hours for everything. Most of the visit part is in the garden. They also have absolutely nice views.

Lovely visit especially enjoyed the extensive gardens, agricultural history and interactive commentary in our language about basement life at the Villa. Reasonable €15 entrance (€13 for over 65s) Luggage lockers were helpful. Bistro service for 2 hot drinks was slow on the day(20/8/25) as they seemed short-staffed.

Hotel Villa Cipressi, by R Collection Hotels, is a historic lakefront hotel that dates back to the 1300s. It offers beautiful gardens, a spa area for relaxation, and a bar with a terrace where guests can enjoy stunning views of the surroundings. The hotel has been carefully maintained and restored to preserve its architectural features. With its authentic new look unveiled recently, it now boasts upgraded facilities including Pulitzers Bar and the new restaurant Jansz.
My husband and I had such a lovely stay at Villa Cipressi. The views from our room were incredible and the hotel itself is beautiful. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was a nice addition. And the access to the gardens / views from the gardens made it even more worth it. We will definitely be back!
Rachel U — Google review
We visited Hotel Villa Cipressi to explore the gardens, and it was absolutely worth the €10 entry fee. The views of Lake Como were stunning – peaceful, romantic, and perfect for photos. The gardens are well kept and offer a lovely walk through nature with gorgeous backdrops. We queued at the famous gate for a photo, but the line was quite hectic and we ended up waiting over an hour. Some people took their time, which is understandable, but it did slow things down a lot. It would be great if the hotel added a staff member to help manage the queue, maybe allowing around 2 minutes per person. That small change could make the experience smoother for everyone. After finally getting our photo, we enjoyed a drink by the bar. We didn’t check the price in advance, and a glass of Aperol Spritz came to €18 – definitely on the pricey side, but with that view, it's somewhat understandable. All in all, it was a lovely experience and we’ll definitely be back. Just a few improvements could make it perfect!

A Magical Stay by Lake Como! We stayed at Hotel Villa Cipressi for a wedding, and it was absolutely unforgettable. The location is breathtaking surrounded by stunning gardens and panoramic views of Lake Como that feel straight out of a dream. The staff was kind and professional, always ready to help with a smile. The rooms are charming and elegant, perfectly blending history with comfort. Everything was beautifully organized for the wedding from the ceremony overlooking the lake to the dinner under the stars. It’s one of those places that truly captures the magic of Italy.

Famous Gates of Heaven at Lake Como (Varenna). We came on a Monday morning at 10am, not many people in the garden. There were 2 other couples at the gate and once they left, we had the place to ourselves for 15 minutes! The area behind the gate is very shallow so make sure to have a wide angle lens for your photos! Very beautiful area, granted, we did not have to wait in line.

We traveled across Italy, stayed in jaw-dropping spots, and met enough kind locals to start our own Vespa gang. Then came Hotel Villa Cipressi — the final boss of vacation letdowns. Months of careful planning, friendly emails, and confirmations to make our 30th anniversary smooth as gelato? Useless. Check-in was an Olympic event in chaos: “Do you have a parking pass?” “No.” “Oh wait, yes you do.” (Thirty minutes later.) While waiting, we were invited to fetch our own luggage — from the car parked right out front — because, of course, self-service romance is all the rage in Italy now. The room? Allegedly upgraded. Downgrade per my reservation. In reality, it was more “Motel 6 study abroad.” The bed was petrified wood, the pillows flatter than my optimism, and the towels could sand furniture. Shower door didn’t close, but hey — nothing says intimacy like flooding your bathroom together! Breakfast? Hidden like a national secret until day two. The veranda? Closed for a wedding — directly below our window. But, it will shut down at 10PM she said! The bar and restaurant? Also closed, because apparently the entire hotel attended that wedding. (Cue the Soup Nazi voice: “No wine for you!” 🍷) Now for the real kicker: the gardens. Oh, the famous gardens! Except you’ll be asked to pay admission each time you enter — even if you’re a guest, then they begrudgingly ask you name a check, then with a sneer, the glass door is opened. Because nothing screams “exclusive stay” like being asked for tickets to walk past your own room. And when the public gardens close? So do the hotel grounds. That’s right — locked out of paradise while paying to be there. At this point, all we could do was laugh. So sure, 5 stars. Would absolutely poop there again. 💩

I shot a wedding at Hotel Villa Cipressi on Lake Como and the views are just unreal - every direction you look is a postcard. The light, the mountains, the water, it’s all just so dreamy! Beautiful gardens, winding little paths, and the prettiest spots for photos everywhere, overlooking the lake. One of my favourite places in the world!
Siobhan F — Google review
Save your money and buy a pass to the gardens but definitely don’t stay here. The worst customer service. Check in was awful and the night reception was incredibly rude. The day staff kept forgetting we were guests and kept yelling at us to pay to get in. I left 2 jackets in the closet upon check out and emailed to see if I could get them back somehow, Still no response a week later. Now I have lost the jackets completely as I am home now. The room was bare and felt like a hospital room. The blankets were terrible. Everything about this place is awful except the terrace views & the gardens.Do not recommend to anyone to stay here ever! Considering this was my first stop on our Italy travels I am disgusted and saddened I chose this place to be so important on my list of travels. Huge disappointment.
Tabanda F — Google review
This is only for anyone visiting the villa for photos. The ladies at the entrance were extremely rude — they immediately charged us €19 per person, and we later found out the tickets were actually €10. They weren’t willing to answer my questions and kept talking among themselves while I was waiting, which felt very unprofessional. Definitely poor customer service. Also, be prepared for a queue when entering, and note that your photos will depend heavily on the lighting. We went around 12 PM, and the light was harsh, so I was quite disappointed with how the photos turned out. However, the villa itself was beautiful — worth seeing if you go at a better time of day.

Located on a peninsula in the serene waters of Lake Como, Abbazia Cistercense di Santa Maria di Piona is a Romanesque monastery consecrated in 1138. The abbey offers stunning panoramic views of North Lake Como and the western coast of Lario. The tranquil atmosphere, cultivated by the residing monks, creates a mysterious charm that soothes anxious souls. Visitors can explore the cloister, adorned with frescoes, and enjoy the peaceful ambiance while taking in breathtaking vistas.
Stumbled upon this place as we drive around Como. Beautiful little Abbey and well maintained grounds & gardens.

A very nice, peaceful holy place. Nevertheless I'm not sure in the opening hours, because we arrived there before 3 PM, and the facility was open. The road leading there is very narrow, and surface is uneven, made up in smaller/bigger pebbles. 10 km/h speed is the maximum, if you don't want to let your car being damaged.

A beautiful and peaceful place, the Abbey is still in use. Its worth a visit for the church and the grounds, but the views of the lake and mountains are quite stunning. When we visited there was an exhibition of Fra. Piets paintings, striking and original, surprisingly fresh and modern, and the Abbey produces a liquor which can be bought in a small shop.

I can't help it but wonder whether Jesus would have put up these (very recent) signs aimed at not so rich travellers who used to flock in large numbers to the site. Now the parking is empty. A symptom or a feature ? Otherwise always worth a visit For the believer and non-believer. Don't forget : except for this place, catholic churches (and parkings) are open to everyone !

I’ve been to this little location many many times. It is peaceful, beautiful, and above all they serve really great. The course and face screams made by the monks and nuns.

We stopped here well taking a day trip around lake Como. This ministry is very large and with many beautiful view points of the lake. This ministry also has many places where you could just sit relax and reflect. It is also pretty quiet here I definitely recommend visiting here well you are in the lake Como area.

A quite place to wander and look at the gardens, the architecture (cloister, church). The abbey shop at the gate offer plenty of local products (jam, honey, liquor, candies,…) The access road made of cobblestones is pretty bumpy. Parking at the gate and entrance are free

Life Electric is a modern outdoor sculpture located near Piazza Cavour in Como, dedicated to Alessandro Volta, the inventor of the electric battery. Created by Daniel Libeskind, this 16.5-meter high stainless steel monument stands as an homage to the renowned scientist. The sculpture reflects the surrounding light and scenery beautifully, especially at sunset. It is situated on one of three adjacent piers along the waterfront and offers a unique viewing experience.
One of the most beautiful lakes and nature in the whole Europe, everything was fantastic. It is highly recommended for anyone visiting Italy to come to this place.

Very nice modern sculpture on an artificial circular platform in the harbor of Como. It's a nice walk from the harbor front to the sculpture across the boardwalk. Below the sculpture, seating is present to enjoy the view on Lake Como from all angles. Especially enjoyable during sunset.

Food is good but even better is that prices seem to be set in a time warp. Seems not to have changed from the moment when the Euro was first introduced. Located at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo in the picturesque lakeside town of Tremezzina, Ristorante La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi pays homage to the late renowned chef Gualtiero Marchesi. Known as the "founder of modern Italian cuisine," Marchesi's legacy is honored through an exceptional dining experience at this top-tier restaurant.
Wonderful culinary experience, we tried several plates from the tasting menu. Service was great and attentive to details, the location is wonderful with a view on the lake, the food was yummy from starter till dessert. Denny and Jogo are super friendly.

Views are great, especially if you’re seated closest to the windows overlooking the lake. Service was so slow and food was not worth it. Food lacked flavor. Our steak was supposed to be crusted but ended up with a green veggie mush on top. We were recommended this place by our hotel concierge and was highly disappointed.
Nikita G — Google review
Big expectations, big disappointment! Beautiful views and exquisite food, but we were disappointed with the service overall. This was supposed to be a memorable night celebrating our 17th anniversary, but it turned out not special because of the poor and snobby service. The hostes couldn’t find our reservation and had an attitude about it, like if we were lying. Not friendly, not welcoming at all! The sommelier didn’t offer any suggestions on wine and when we told him what we had chosen he was very rude grabbing the menu from my husband’s hand and just walking away like if we had offended him. He apologized later after we complained he gave us a glass of champagne, but still with the same bad attitude, not sincere. Our waiter Diogo was very nice and attentive, I think the manager should hire him to train others. I would say the whole experience felt too touristy and not personal. I would go back for drinks at the hotel bar with the same views, not to La Terazza. The hotel is beautiful with the most beautiful gardens!
Elaine L — Google review
This was my first time dining at La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi at the Tremezzo 5 star hotel by Lake Como. The overall atmosphere of the hotel is beautifully and luxuriously decorated, and the restaurant itself is equally impressive in terms of layout and design, making you feel special from the very first step (congratulations for the candles at the entrance). We were 4 and ordered the 5-course tasting menu, and every dish was excellent, especially: • Astice alla crema di peperoni (1978) The lobster was perfectly sweet and tender, paired with a smooth sweet pepper sauce. The flavors were perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. • Riso, oro e zafferano (1981) The staff explained the story behind this dish wonderfully, helping me appreciate its uniqueness. The saffron risotto with gold flakes was delicate, and every bite was a true feast for both the eyes and the palate. The other courses were equally delightful, the seabass more than the veal. In addition to the food, I also had the opportunity to visit the kitchen, which was spectacular and very clean. The executive chef greeted me warmly, making me feel welcomed and giving insight into the professional kitchen management. Other highlights: • Some staff were cheerful, friendly, and provided excellent guidance about the dishes and wine pairings, making the dining experience smooth and enjoyable. • The plating and wine pairings were well thought out, enhancing the flavors of the dishes. Areas for improvement: • Some team members seemed unenthusiastic, which slightly affected the overall dining experience. • The bread served was somewhat stale, as if it had been stored for a while, and lacked freshness. - The dessert, Millefoglie, was good to see but really nothing special, not the grand final that you expect from such a unique (and expensive!) restaurant! Overall, this was a highly impressive experience in terms of food, decor, and atmosphere, though there are many points that in my opinion should be improved, to fully satisfy the expectations of a particularly attentive client, like my husband and I.
WARAYA S — Google review
The views and ambiance are absolutely dreamy but what lacked was the food + service. The food lacked flavor - it felt like something was almost forgotten in the dishes we had. And the service was slow and felt disinterested in helping ensure our experience was pleasant. It also felt like the staff was annoyed we did not order the tasting menu. The sommelier also seemed annoyed we did not order a bottle and instead ordered a 40 EUR glass of wine (each) - lol. Also did not give any explanation of the wine we were drinking, the vineyard etc. For the price you pay to dine here, do not recommend it. On Instagram: @lexandthecity____ (4 underscores)

Nice atmosphere and views for dinner, but otherwise the whole experience is outdated and gimmicky - like fine dining in the 90s. The food itself was not remarkable, very hit or miss. Not entirely bad but we expected more given Gualtiero Marchesi’s legendary reputation. Several dishes were bland and lacked any depth of flavour, and some served lukewarm. If this were in any other location than Grand Hotel Tremezzo, there would be no appeal. Go for the setting more than the food, and only if you can get a table on the edge.
M — Google review
We visited this place this summer and left quite disappointed. It had been highly recommended, so my expectations were very high. Unfortunately, the only friendly person we encountered was the hostess – and that was it. It took a very long time before a waiter came to our table, and when I mentioned that I was hungry and asked if I could finally get a menu, the head waiter replied that he was very hungry too and walked away. Such a “joke” was absolutely inappropriate for a restaurant of this level. The service overall was unpleasant, and it felt like we were being treated differently compared to other tables. With the tables where ladies were accompanied by men, the staff seemed warm and welcoming, but with my friend and me the attitude was completely different. The food itself was not particularly tasty, and I didn’t enjoy it. My mood had already been spoiled by the poor hospitality. Of course, the atmosphere and the views were beautiful – that was the only thing that saved the evening. It would be wonderful if the staff could treat all guests with the same friendliness and smiles, whether they spend €1,000 or €250.

First an foremost, a big thank you for accommodating us in the room, because my wife was ill and not in anyways able to get ready for a nice restaurant like this. We had every course delivered to our room in outstanding quality; the caviar spaghetti are a most as well as the lobster macaroni. The two filets (veal and beef) were good as well. The tiramisu was great: not to sweet but full of flavour. As a wine enthusiast I also appreciate the wines by the glass (as I was the only drinker), with lynch moussas 2010 and a lovely puligny montrachet i didnt miss out on anything!

Bar Il Molo is a lively lakefront cafe in Varenna, offering an elegant terrace with beautiful views of the lake and town. It provides a variety of casual Italian favorites such as pizza, pasta, panini, salads, and gelato at reasonable prices. The bar is open from morning to late at night and is known for its stunning sunset views over the water.
Bar Il Molo is an absolute gem in Varenna! If you're planning to dine here, make sure to arrive early—the best seats fill up fast, and for good reason. The view overlooking Lake Como is truly breathtaking—one of the most scenic spots we've ever had a meal. We had two perfectly made cappuccinos, pancakes with fresh fruit, and scrambled eggs with bacon. Everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The service was warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is hard to beat. Whether you're stopping by for breakfast, brunch, or just a coffee with a view, this place is a must-visit when in Varenna.

Visited this very busy restaurant three times while in the area. For breakfast and two dinners. The staff is busy but quick. The food comes out hot and quickly. Not the greatest meal, but the view makes up for it for any disappointments. It’s worth the visit.

Service was quick and the waiters very attentive. This spot seems to get mixed reviews but we had a wonderful time. Pizza was enjoyable but nothing special. However the real highlight is that this is THE BEST spot in Varrena for a sunset drink, if you get lucky enough to have one of the frontline tables!

Don't be fooled by the tiktok videos. The location is nice but looks better on video. There's not much in Varenna and this restaurant has a good location which gives it an advantage. The food and service is average. I ordered the salmon breakfast and it is something that I could make at home easily. For the views and the price, I think it is reasonable.

Good restaurant near the lake. Good food. Fresh orange juice was a good choice (freshly squeezed). They served the food and drinks really fast. The staffs were friendly, and helpful, but some of them looked tired. Toilet for customers is available.

The lavender cocktail didn’t taste like lavender at all. The waiter was the rudest I’ve ever encountered — literally scolding customers and making us feel tense just to ask for something, as if we should apologize for ordering. His attitude was truly unacceptable. The pinsa was quite ordinary. However, the place has an absolutely stunning view. I’d say come here just for the scenery, not for the food or the service.
Elif G — Google review
Excellent food, great service, beautiful views! Everything was lovely, 100% recommend. In November, when everything else closes early and nothing else is open after 7-8 at night, this place was open till late and we could enjoy our tasty dinner after a long journey!

The drinks were decent, coffee was nice. They came along with chips and pistachio. Most important that everything, the terrace and view was fantastic. Definitely recommend. By the way, be aware of the pigeons and sparrows, if you feed them once and jump into your dish in groups 😄

Absolutely delicious! One of our better experiences we’ve had on all of our travels — the foods had a beautiful flow of flavors from one course to the next, the service was wonderful, and the ambiance was eclectic and elegant. The quality of the restaurant has definitely improved with the arrival of the new chef. The dishes are creative and carefully prepared, I highly recommend the tubetto and the dessert with buffalo ricotta. You can dine outside with a lake view or inside, and both options offer a great experience.

Arrived around 4pm - got a nice view seat since no one was there but the food and drinks were the worst I’ve had in Italy. Frozen meatballs not cooked properly (definitely not nonna’s) and they lied about fresh lemonade - Fever tree lemonade is not fresh! I’m glad they replaced it the first time when the slice of lemon had black flecks on it, but they shouldn’t say they have fresh lemonade when it’s bottled and way too sweet. They also take a long time to get the check even when you ask for it in advance and you’re one of three customers. And yes, the check said Fever Tree lemonade! (There was such an awkward moment where they seemed to expect me to tip… we paid full price for food that was barely fit for my dog to eat, and had to go elsewhere to eat a proper meal.) I’m not sure if it’s because I’m an American tourist and they were punking me. :-( Another American family came in later likely from some boat trip - they seemed to have low expectations for dining - “get me a drink anything cold”

La Colombetta is a renowned restaurant located in the heart of Como, offering traditional Italian cuisine served in an old-world venue with wood accents. The restaurant is split into five dining areas, providing plenty of candlelit corners for couples to enjoy intimate moments while taking in the beautiful lake views. Established over 25 years ago and run by three delightful sisters, Mariana, Silvana, and Lina Peddoni, La Colombetta is frequented by celebrities like George Clooney and Mick Jagger.
Truly the best restaurant in Como. Such a lovely experience from start to finish. First the Beautiful art on the walls. Service was exceptional. The food was exquisite. The atmosphere was great… old house with a bit modern feel… The restaurant decor and design is beautiful. Very impressive. But stiff. The food was well cooked but a bit boring… and a bit overpriced (€40) for what we received… we ordered two different types of fish, they came with just fish filets, some chunks of potatoes, some olives with stones inside… The food was colorless. Tasted great. But you eat with your eyes first. Very little garnish and no color coordination on the plate. One really bad notice. The olives used on both courses had stones in them. That’s a big NO NO. The appetizer we ordered (Red Prawns) was fine but a bit overpriced as well (€40) for only a few prawns with asparagus…. There was a copero charge of €10 per person, most restaurants we have been to in Milan were about €3-5…. But that’s not the deal breaker because they offered us free bread and sparkling wine to start.. We planned to order and share two appetizers but we ended up ordering just one for the birthday boy.. Because they want to charge a minimum of 20% for any shared dishes.. we don’t even know what it means for“a minimum”… Would they charge 50% or 100% depending on what? We don’t know and we don’t want to know… We’ve traveled to different parts of the world and this was the first time we saw that… We always like to order 2-3 appetizers to share and taste different local cuisines… And at the end, we would also like to share a dessert…NOT EVERYBODY LIKES TO FINSIH ONE BIG DESSERT BY THEMSELVES… sweets are fat….sharing a dessert is enjoyable and very common.. Some pros of the restaurant cannot be denied: the staff were very friendly and polite… they greeted us, took our coats and saw us off at the end…

If you’re in Como and want the real Italian experience, this restaurant is an absolute must. Hands down, it was the best food I had in all of Italy and that’s saying a lot! Every bite was full of flavor, tradition, and love. You can feel that the recipes have been passed down through generations, and every dish is made with care. What makes it even more special is that it’s owned and run by a local Italian family, and their warmth truly makes the entire experience unforgettable. The service was amazing so kind, attentive, and welcoming. You don’t just feel like a customer; you feel like a guest in their home. From the moment you sit down, to the last spoon of dessert or sip of wine, you’re wrapped in authentic Italian hospitality. It’s not just a meal it’s a memory. This is the kind of place you’ll dream about going back to. If you’re looking for that “nonna is cooking in the kitchen” type of experience with heartfelt service and unforgettable food this is it. If I could give it more stars I would give it infinity, this place deserves the world.

I dine out frequently and I have to say this was one of the finest culinary experiences I can remember. La Colombetta was an absolute smash hit from the minute we arrived, it’s located in what was once a 13th century church, but completely renovated with a modern chic vibe, all that remains of the church is some of the original ceiling graphics which remain visible. This is family owned and operated, run by three sisters and their brother, also on hand were identical twin daughters, who provided service with 5 star excellence. We were warmly greeted by one of the sisters and provided with a complimentary glass of prosecco and some very tasty thin pita chips with a drizzle of evoo. Followed by their house red wine that was fantastic. We literally wanted to order everything on the menu, but we went with some favorites. Started with the Buratta served with sweet cherry tomatoes, evoo and a balsamic glaze drizzle, very artistically presented, it was excellent, cheese was rich and creamy. For our next course we went with pasta (of course) Tagliolini with Lobster for two, and the Spinach Ravioli with Tomato Sauce and Basil, both were excellent. Then on to the Grilled Lamb chops, again excellent. As much as we wanted to order more, we were stuffed and wanted to leave room for the homemade desserts. We ordered the Crème Brûlée and Lemon & Mandarin Sorbet. I inquired what was taking a few minutes, I was told it’s not ready, we’re making it fresh. This was by far the absolute best Crème Brûlée I had ever had, right out of the oven, even the plate was still hot. Same for the Lemon Sorbet, best I’ve ever had. Everything here is freshly homemade to order. Best restaurant in Como, possibly all of Italy, if you’re there, this is a must! Dining here is like dining with your family, they make you feel right at home. You never know who you might see here, every celebrity that visited Como has dined here, I’m told it’s Clooneys favorite restaurant, De Niro, Sandler, Jagger and many others dine here. When I shared my enthusiasm over the meal, I was invited into the kitchen to meet the rest of the family, this may be the cleanest kitchen I’ve ever seen. Reservations strongly recommended. Please note, as this is an intimate spot, I limited my interior pics as not to disturb or invade the other guests. It really is very beautiful.

From the moment my wife and I stepped into Ristorante La Columbetta, we were swept into an unforgettable dining experience that stands as the finest we’ve ever had. The evening began with the festive pop of a complimentary prosecco, setting a warm, celebratory tone. The staff’s attentive, yet unobtrusive, service made us feel like honored guests, with every need anticipated and met with genuine warmth. Each dish was a masterpiece—bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and crafted with evident care. What truly astonished us was the bill, which felt remarkably reasonable for such an extraordinary experience. The owners have created a gem that delivers not just a meal, but a memory to cherish. Do yourself a favor and book a table—you won’t be disappointed.

Day 4

Off the beaten path
For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Basilica di San Fedele. Not quite as popular as Varenna, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 6 hours.

Basilica di San Fedele is a significant stop on the Romanesque tour, situated in a charming square that shares its name. Originally built around 1120, it stands on the site of a 5th-century paleochristian church dedicated to Santa Eufemia. Later dedicated to San Fedele, the basilica houses his relics and is considered a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture.
Stunning basilica in Como. Beautiful architecture. Really enjoyed the beautiful decor on the inside with painted ceilings and beautiful statues. The highlight at Christmas time is the light show that goes on the front of the Basilica when it gets dark outside. It was stunning. We sat outside and watched the amazing light show. We really enjoyed our visit to this church in Como.

A must visit if you are in Rome. We passed through the Jubilee Holy Door open every 25 years, and saw the Michelangelo Pietà
Ryland T — Google review
This is an interesting Church as it seems to have a number of ancient artifacts which seem Roman, maybe because Fedele, is believed to be a Roman soldier that held some kind of state office around 316AD. He was converted to Christianity, by the then bishop of Milan, perhaps connected to a task the bishop asked of Fedele, namely, evangelize the pagan territory of greater Como (which may have included Arona). Christians were severely persecuted until Constantine and Fedele was martyred on the northern shores of Lake Como near Lake Mazzola. Evidently around 500AD a hermit, Anthony of Lario (future Saint), took shelter in the Tomb of Fedele (this location was then documented). In 964AD, this tomb was found (unearthed) and the relics recovered (shrine currently exists in Sorico) and transferred to the church of St. Euphemia. However, it seems there was a bit of conflict in the area at the time, and the relics are believed to be sent to Milan for safe keeping. Then in 1572 Cardinale Carlo Borromeo (future Saint), had the relics safely transported to this church. So interesting.

The Basilica di San Fedele, located in the heart of Como, is one of the city’s most significant historical and religious landmarks, rich in architectural features and cultural history.

Stumbling into this beautiful church during Mass was such a special experience. The atmosphere was peaceful and intimate, and the history in every stone made it feel like stepping back in time. It’s a quiet little gem in Como, perfect for a moment of reflection away from the crowds.
Madalina A — Google review
One of the best churches I ever visited. Small but full of incredibly interesting details I haven't seen anywhere else.
Katherine T — Google review
Open every day from 8.30-12.00 then 15.30-19.00, not open Monday mornings. This is worth a visit, a short walk from the main Como cathedral. It was quiet during Easter weekend but will be busier in the summer months.
Eddie R — Google review
The basilica itself is much smaller than the city’s duomo but San Fedele has it’s own cute little charm. I find the surrounding streets to be a little more colorful and the plaza itself, in front of the church, is much bigger — compared to that of the Como Duomo — this makes San Fedele Basilica a very relaxing spot off the crowded, tourist-filled, tiny streets. Great to get an apero right outside the many shops and coffee places while enjoying the Romanesque edifice in front of you! Good historical landmark!

The Terme Romane - Sito Archeologico - Como archaeological museum is a repository of artifacts from the Roman period, including ruins from a spa dating back to the 1st-3rd centuries BCE. Saw this in passing as we parked in the parking that was built right above it. It's nice, but not particularly special, and it's a bit weird that it's under a parking building ("Autosilo").

Being able to walk into rooms 2000 years old is great. The site is run by volunteers who know their history and are very welcoming.

It is underneath a parking lot, so it is dark, noisy and air is dirty, it is nice concept for a parking lot but a waste for an archeological site.

Nice cozy city. Has a beautiful view across the lake and some wonderful places to visit like cathedrals and museums. Inside the old citywalls there is barely to no traffic, which makes it really calm and easy to walk. We went by car and could park just outside of the citycenter for only €7 euros for about 5 hours. There's lots of restaurants and bars as well, almost all of them on the most beautiful spots.

The Alessandro Volta Statue, unveiled in 1838, stands proudly in Como as a tribute to the remarkable contributions of this Italian physicist. Born in 1745, Volta is celebrated for inventing the first electrical battery—the Voltaic pile—in 1799 and discovering methane. Crafted by renowned sculptor Pompeo Marchesi, this elegant marble statue not only honors his legacy but also enhances the charm of its surrounding piazza.
Unveiled in 1838, the marble statue in Como was crafted by renowned sculptor Pompeo Marchesi. Its imposing base, designed by Francesco Durelli, carries a modest yet powerful inscription: "A Volta – La Patria," honoring the legacy of Alessandro Volta and his contribution to the nation.

nice place in como The Alessandro Volta Statue in Como is a fitting tribute to one of Italy’s greatest scientists, Alessandro Volta, the inventor of the electric battery. This is a pretty statue - but what’s really impressive is the piazza it’s located on. The whole square murmured with locals enjoying an aperitivo in any of the multiple outdoor seated restaurants. Another must visit in Como! Although I wish there was a bit more information on what the statue is actually about.

The Basilica di Sant'Abbondio is an ancient and picturesque church located in the city of Como. It features two bell towers, frescoes, and arches lining multiple aisles. Originally situated along the Via Regina, a crucial route connecting Lombardy to Northern Europe, the basilica's history dates back to the 5th century CE when it was built on the site of a paleo-Christian church.
Beautiful and quiet church. Perfect for a moment of silence and thinking.
Fredo F — Google review
It's a quiet little basilica tucked away in Como. We went there on a Monday and it was completely empty. There's no ticket or queue at all. The main ceiling and walls above the altar have nice frescoes. You can pop in 50 cents to light up the place for a few minutes and have a good look at the altar and it's walls.
Suparna S — Google review
One word for this Basilica... incredible! The Rev. Fr that walked us through the story of the basilica made it sound and look so lovely. I couldn't help but wonder how the love of God have greatly inspired the generation before us.
VIGIL U — Google review
Beautiful, peaceful snd completely empty. Much more ancient than the grander Duomo in the centre of Como. There’s beautiful artwork too.
Helen F — Google review
This is the second oldest church according to our guide. Unlike so many churches in Europe, which are often a mixture of various styles, here one finds quite a rather unaltered Romanesque construction. The Basilica, built in the 11th century over an even older church as has been found out by recent excavations, is aesthetically very pleasing - from the exterior as well as inside. There are also some wall paintings, although they date from the 14th century. In the middle are the relics of Saint Abbondio, a local bishop, and of two of his successors, rather unknown saints elsewhere. Next to the church is a courtyard, recently restored, which now gets used by the town's university
Emmanuel R — Google review
Everyone who visits Como goes to the Duomo (Cathedral), but to my mind this church is more interesting and beautiful. It is an old romanesque Church (much older than the Duomo) with beautiful frescoes, in particular the large series in the altar. I suppose people don't go here so much because it's not in the city center. It was empty when we visited it. But it's a lovely, lovely church. The relics of Saint Abundius (Sant'Abbondio) are located here. It is free to visit.
Tom — Google review
Really lovely church ideal visit off the beaten track no toilet facilities but nearby quaint bar (to left of picture) around corner with helpful and super friendly owner Claudio.
L G — Google review
A must-see: a bit off the classic Como Tours because it is just outside the center, but in my opinion not to be missed. It is a 1,000-year-old basilica with one of the largest cycles of frescoes of the Giotto school in Lombardy. Inside the church, on the left, there are also panels that allow you to know the history very well.

About a 40 minute walk from the Como Camerlata train station. Which is One stop from the Como main station. The weather was not great when we did the walk with thick clouds and rain. Otherwise the views would have great. Most of the walk was steep, but thankfully very little traffic. The castle has been reduced to its keep. The keep can be accessed for 10 Euro per adult. There are four levels excluding the roof level. Each level had some artefacts on this history of the castle from Roman to medieval times. Our guide was knowledgeable and very happy to answer our questions. The roof would normally have fantastic views to Milan. Well worth the walk and visit.

The castle was closed for construction I think. The place is very beautiful, we parked the car down the street and we went up the hill. The road is very steep, it was a bit hard. But the place is very beautiful and well maintained. We got to see a little part of the castle and its surroundings, and we saw Como with one side of its lake.

A nice hike, 10€ to additionally climb to the top of the tower, we saved that cash for the dinner tonight; you can continue the hike via Monte Croce and go down into the San Giovanni station, it's well worth it for the views.

Il Pinzimonio is a modern restaurant in Northern Italy known for its traditional dishes and wood-fired pizzas. The venue features exposed-stone walls and a casual, two-level space with a simple Mondrian color aesthetic. Specializing in cutlets served with various cheese or truffle sauces, the restaurant also offers delicious renditions of Italian classics like risotto and mixed seafood pasta.
While in Lago di Como for a few days we ate at this restaurant twice for lunch, and both times were exceptional. From the start we were seated immediately, and a moment later our drink orders were taken. As soon as we set down our menus, a staff person came by to take our dining order. While waiting on our meals, we noticed the staff always scanning the room, looking for something to do, or someone to attend to. As for the atmosphere, very comfortable, spacious, and clean. As for the food: perfect. Our dishes looked amazing and tasted even better (very flavorful) The food is on the more expensive side, but given the high quality and city, we consider it reasonable. When we return to Como, we will definitely eat here again.

I am so glad we found this gem in Como. The food is amazing, we ordered about 5 dishes and all of them were made fresh and with high quality ingredients. Bit to mention the flavors were so good! Also, the service was fantastic. The waiters were so nice and accommodating, and they treated us very well. I will definitely come back here when I’m in Como again.

We ate here twice, and both times it was spectacular! The menu had great variety and a creative flare! The pizza Cinque Terre is an example - goat cheese pesto and olives. And the pizza Frutti de Mare was loaded with fresh seafood! It’s a must try. Super friendly staff. And I even got an Italian lesson.
Greg O — Google review
If you're a tourist, order your meal from the menu and don't rely on the waiter or the restaurant manager recommendation. At least check the price of each dish before paying. This way, you don't have to pay double the price, as happened to me at this restaurant, which ruined its delicious food and beautiful setting with fraud and deception.
Mohammad A — Google review
It's a terrible place. Of all the restaurants in Como this is the worst. It takes too long to get your order, water, food. Due to my allergies, I can't eat certain foods, so I asked for a substitute and they offered to pay for the side dish, which I've never seen done before (please eat the bad-quality crackers yourself). This place doesn't have bad service, it just doesn't have any. I've never encountered anything like this. It's terrifying. And this place full of tourists, and I assume it's a standard tourist destination. This is the first and last time I'll visit it.

Osteria L'Angolo del Silenzio is a charming restaurant located just a short walk from the center of Como. Despite its unassuming exterior, the interior boasts a delightful garden where guests can dine. The menu features an array of delectable dishes, including a lovely octopus salad, homemade pasta with rabbit sauce, and perfectly grilled trout that stands out as a highlight. The cherry tiramisu offers a delightful twist on the classic dessert.
Truly enjoyable meal. First, despite the appearance from outside, there is a cute interior garden. Then, the food... Had a lovely octopus salad, followed by homemade pasta with rabbit sauce, and then grilled trout. All were great, but the trout stood out. Cooked perfectly, moist and yet had a nice grilled flavor. Was a fairly large portion as well! For dessert, the cherry tiramisu was a nice variation of an old classic. I'd go back in a heartbeat...

Location: 10 minutes to walk from center of Como. Service: Many old staffs work there with kindness and professional service. Decoration: old but very clean. There is a garden that you can seat. Food: T-bone steak was a bit hard to chew but the taste was good. Risotto was fantastic taste. Risotto strongly recommendable. Recommend? Yes. But T bone steak is not so wow tasty like in Florence to eat. But they grill well with wood.

Great Italian Resturant. Outstanding food quality and service are great. The Resturant itself is a bit dull. Staff speak English and have English menus. We tried the octopus, crab pasta and veal stake. They were all great. The restaurant is extremely easy to find as its on one of the main streets in Como. Really good place to have a risotto. Good options of seafood. The entrance looks uninviting but once you get in, it's a lovely atmosphere and there is a nice private garden for nice summer evenings. A bit on the pricey side but justifiable. Service is good but felt slightly intrusive. Definitely worth visiting for the food though!

I might not be an expert in risotto but usually it is cooked with white wine and chicken stock, couldn't taste any of these this time, plus the rice they used looked like a regular rice and not a carnaroli, but once again, not an expert. Given the great reviews I could read about the place I was expecting much more from that place . Also beside the owner whom was friendly the service was pretty cold.

Feel Como is a small and well-maintained restaurant located in the historic center of Como. The elegant space features rustic-chic decor and a summer garden, offering refined set menus that highlight local produce. Chef Federico Beretta's cuisine focuses on exalting lake fish with dishes like sturgeon tonne, rice and perch, carp with white celery, and more. The restaurant also offers modern cuisine with options like elderberry pie with salted caramel.

We had a lovely dining experience here during our trip to Como. The service was exceptional, with the staff providing great insight into the history of the wines paired with each meal. The complimentary starters were a delightful touch, bursting with amazing flavours. For our entrée, we chose the gnocchi and ravioli. While the starters set a high standard, the pasta dishes didn’t quite meet our expectations in terms of flavour. My partner’s main course, the beef cheek, was delicious, but unfortunately, my duck breast was a bit tough, and the flavour didn’t quite come through. However, the apple pie we both had for dessert was absolutely incredible and the perfect end to our meal.

Came on a friend’s recommendation and left satisfied. We did the Forest dinner tasting menu at 130 euros. I am gluten intolerant and they accommodated very well including a nice bread served warm. Aside from the mushroom amuse bouche the rest were good. My favorites dishes were the tempura and the hare which was a wonderful texture. The service was excellent and the chef also kindly came out to say hello. It was a nice cozy place with comfortable chairs and lighting where the table spacing makes it easy to have a conversation.

We did the autumn tasting menu with the wine pairing, which was perfect! The server was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. Chef made his appearance many times bringing out dishes. The attention to every detail was stunning. This was by far one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. ❤️

This establishment truly epitomizes the pinnacle of our culinary journey. My wife and I experienced a romantic yet delectable evening here last night. Opting for two courses each, rather than samplers, we were delighted by the exceptional taste of every dish. The restaurant’s mastery in utilizing local produce and cuisine transported us to an idyllic hillside village, offering a truly unique experience that is quintessentially Como Lake.

The Only Thing Worth Tasting Here Was the Bread. TLDR: Come here if you want to food that looks expensive. Avoid if you want food that tastes good. Below is a breakdown of what I ordered along with pictures and my thoughts on each element of the meal. Amuse-Bouche • Visually striking—I’ll give them that. But the cherries? All show, zero flavor. The “rice cracker with white dollops”? Supposed to be crunchy, but instead, flop and soggy, stale—so not good. And the mushroom concoction? Tasted like mushroom powder—dry, earthy, dirt-like. Definitely not appetizing. Main Courses • Faux Gras Ravioli: Served cold and the pasta was hard—not al dente, just unpleasantly rigid. Flavor? Like vomit, thanks to a bizarre strawberry pairing. • Sturgeon Dish: That gray cylinder looked neat—but tasted overly fishy, not fresh. And that green oil—maybe basil? Way too overpowering, just ruined it. • Red Pepper “Spaghetti” with Peppercorn Ash: Clearly not house-made—boiled-from-a-box quality pasta with acidic red pepper sauce reminiscent of jarred paste. Peppercorn ash? Visually interesting, but overall, just three flavors: red pepper sauce, plain pasta, and ash. Home-cookable in five minutes. • Duck Egg with Green Oil: The duck egg itself was actually decent. But that wasn’t made by the chef - it was thanks to the farmer who raised the duck. The chef strikes again with an intense celery-heavy green oil (basil? coriander?)—the balance was just off. Overpowering celery clashed with everything. Cheese Platter • Four out of five cheeses tasted like they’d gone bad (or maybe they were just too much rind?). The jam pairings? Random and nonsensical. Even if the cheese had actually been good, 30 euros for such a small quantity of cheese was way overpriced even for a “fancy” restaurant like this one tries to be. I didn’t take a picture of this but each piece of cheese was 2 inches by 0.5 inches by 0.5 inches. The Bread • The only redeeming moment: fresh bread studded with basil, tomato, and olives. Flavorful, satisfying, actual craftsmanship. It should have been the center of the menu—honestly. Not sure if it was made at this restaurant, more likely they purchased it from a nearby bakery. Service and Atmosphere • Service: Surprisingly decent. The waiter was actually funny. He was slurring his words and dropping things on the ground while walking around, but still a charming guy. • Atmosphere: Upscale but stuffy—overly dramatic spotlight lighting on food, total Instagram-bait. Tables are too close; you could hear every word from neighbors. Everyone whispered awkwardly. Chairs were not comfortable. They did provide a little hook for my wife’s purse which I thought was thoughtful.

We celebrated our anniversary with a private, intimate lunch here and it was truly unforgettable. The seasonal menu captured the essence of autumn perfectly — each dish layered with earthy flavors that transported us to a cozy campfire and a crisp picnic in the forest. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it feel personal and special from start to finish. Every detail, from presentation to service, was thoughtfully done. We left with full hearts and happy palates. They also took a polaroid photo of us as a memento. Will definitely come again.
