San Gimignano in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in San Gimignano, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
San Gimignano is an ancient Medieval city in northern Tuscany, Italy. It has been called one of the "prettiest towns in Italy" and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1990. The well-preserved city is famous for its 14th- and 15th-century towers, which give the town a distinctive skyline. La Rocca di Montestaffoli is the remnants of a 14th century fortress sitting on the hilltop above the town, where outdoor cinemas play films and local artists and musicians showcase their talents during the Summer.
With favorites like Torre e Casa Campatelli, Osteria del Carcere, and RiccaPizza - San Giovanni, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Osteria Enoteca I Quattro Gatti and Osteria San Giovanni so you can get the best taste of San Gimignano while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Gelateria Dondoli, located in the central Piazza della Cisterna of San Gimignano, is a renowned gelato spot run by award-winning artisan Sergio. With a reputation for inventive flavors like saffron with pine nuts and classic options, this gelateria is celebrated for its high-quality organic ingredients sourced from the surrounding countryside. Sergio's expertise has earned him prestigious awards such as the Master of Art and Craft and two-time Ice Cream World Championship winner.
Avoid the tourist trap nearby and queue for this, as the line moves fast! Just order directly from one of the people behind the counter and pay after that! The Crema di Santa Fina (Saffron and Pine Nuts) was amazing - notes of honey and hay from the saffron and fragrant pine nut. The Michelle (Almonds and Saffron) was epic fragrant. Enjoyed it very much. Pistacchio was not overly salty, but was nutty and fragrant. Rosemary baby and curva fiesole were so tasty and interesting as well!
Jed L — Google review
It was not overly sweet but a bit too liquidity for our likings. The flavour was good but not the texture, probably due to the tins being out so long. 3.50 euro for 2 flavours cone or 1 flavour for the same price. It’s based on the cone size not the amount of flavours Credit card accepted
Steven — Google review
After sampling over 20 different gelatos in the course of a month in Europe, I can confidently say this is definitely the best gelato we had. The flavors here are unique, and the gelato is rich and creamy. Definitely get the signature saffron flavor! I’ve never tasted any other flavor similar to this. The line is long but it does move pretty quickly and it’s totally worth it!
Christina N — Google review
Ah yes it’s the best gelato I have ever had. It’s intense and fresh flavor. Tried 6 flavors, vanilla, strawberry, coconuts, wild berries, Joghurt, and champagne/grapefruits with 3 of us. We were there at 10am-12pm and the line was pretty short. When we tried at 10, there was practically no line. Two flavors in the cup for 4 EUR. It was so good I don’t want to eat another gelato.
Sonoko K — Google review
It the word’s best ice cream at all, not even Italy’s best ice cream but it is admirable how many interesting flavours they have. I’ve tried the Italian garden and the rosemary baby. Italian garden was good but not terrific and rosemary baby tasted too bitter on its own. The tiramisu ice cream and the vanilla were really good which suggests that the basic flavours are better.
Vera R — Google review
Really the tastiest and silkiest gelato I ever had. And the ingredients are so good - you rarely find a place where vanilla gelato has an actual vanilla taste, made of an actual vanilla, and not just a milk + sugar taste. I wanted to give 5 stars, but I can’t. The gelato is just too sweet for me. So much so, that I couldn’t finish it. Anyways, totally worth to check it out when in Toscana.
Jaba L — Google review
Don’t let the long lines deter you! It moves very quickly and is well worth it! My husband and I tried gelato in every city we visited while in Italy. This was the best gelato we had the entire trip! So decadent and creamy!
Brittany R — Google review
Best gelato I’ve ever had in my life. I will dream about this place. I had to get another gelato right after I was done because it was so good! I loved the pistachio and mandarino flavors the most!

The Palazzo Comunale, Pinacoteca, and Torre Grossa are must-visit attractions in the city. The Palazzo del Popolo houses the Museo Civico, which features a remarkable collection of artworks dating from the 13th to 17th centuries, including medieval court frescos and masterpieces by renowned artists such as Lippo Memmi and Filippino Lippi.
Very interesting exhibition and the views from the tower are well-worth the climb. It is a bit of a challenge if you are scared of heights like me. The ticket is also valid for the Duomo right next door. Full recommendation.
Espial1348 — Google review
One of the "must try" when in Gimignano, climbing the Torre Grossa will offer the best views over this superb medieval city, but also over the Tuscan fields. It is indeed hard to climb the stairs, especially the few ones at the top, but it is worth it.
Ana-Maria A — Google review
Great place to visit when in San Gimignano. We went in when it opened at 10am so it wasn’t busy. They have redone the stairs so it’s quite an easy walk up - if you are tall you will need to duck your head at the end. The views are breathtaking! You then get to descend and walk into a great little museum. Would greatly recommend when visiting San Gimignano.
Ruth R — Google review
This city is like a hidden jam of Tuscany. We just looked at the map and randomly decided to come, and you become a cross this amazing museum and the city itself was very beautiful and old however, it wasn’t busy at all not very risky which is nice I would highly recommend to come and check it out if you haven’t.

A great place with a great view of the city. I definitely want to mention the very kind and helpful man at the ticket office. I have poor eyesight and my English isn't very good, but he patiently explained everything! Thank you, this is exactly what helps you develop a wonderful attitude towards the country! The people in Tuscany are incredible!

Great place with beautiful view, you can buy tickets in full city pass. That grant's you access to tower, tower museum and museum next to tower, it all costs only 15 euro

Piazza della Cisterna is a triangular plaza surrounded by medieval buildings and named after its 13th-century cistern. It is one of the principal squares in San Gimignano, along with Piazza del Duomo. The plaza offers access to several notable attractions, including the Palazzo Comunale and the Basilica Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, known for its Romanesque architecture and impressive fresco cycles by renowned artists.
A medieval open space at the heart of the uniquely beautiful city of San Gimignano. The piazza, like the rest of the place, feels like it's frozen in time. The atmosphere in the morning is peaceful although later on during the day, the place can become busy with visitors. There are several eateries and cafés around the piazza, some of them boasting to have the best gelato in the world.

We love the medieval "village" at the heart of the uniquely beautiful city of San Gimignano. The city is well preserved, and it feels like it's frozen in time. One can imagine how these folks with their horses going about their business during those days. The atmosphere in the morning is peaceful and if you enjoy your running, this city has many interesting elevation to add to your training. The cobblestone is another challenge that keeps you vigilant and to train your foot placement. Expect loads of visitors as the day approach to lunch and dinner. Food and drinks (wine & beer) are tops, as the Italians are proud of their traditional culinary and wine culture.
GEORGE L — Google review
The Piazza della Cisterna is one of the most beautiful and famous squares in San Gimignano, a medieval town .since the 1990s the square — and San Gimignano as a whole — has become quite touristy. During the main travel season, it can feel crowded, with many souvenir shops and large tour groups. Still, early mornings or late evenings often bring back the magic of its medieval charm.
Xenia ( — Google review
This was actually my favorite piazza in San Gimignano. It's the one with the old cistern, or well. There's always a bunch of people sitting on it as they do on the steps in other public squares. What's unusual is that this square is really in the shape of a triangle. You'll also see the Devil's Tower near the cistern. It has been said that the owner returned to find his tower taller than it was when he left it. Lol! That's kind of spooky. What I loved most about this medieval piazza is the famous gelato shop. It was a historical and tasty experience.
Karen V — Google review
Historical & Beautiful square in the centre of San Gimignano I love medieval city and SG did not disappoint. In fact it is famous for the tower but some of the little square that are in the town are really amazing. Piazza della Cisterna is one of them, here we had a drink and were lucky to be here the day of the market, so bought a few things too. I highly recommend coming here, this city is great and perched so looks really great from the roads below.
Paul V — Google review
The most beautiful piazza in San Gimignano that gets very crowded during the day, but turns into a fairy tale after sunset (if you have accomodation inside the old city, you can enjoy such beauty). It is filled with history, dark stories, but is also nicely kept. And if you want to try "la dolce vita", just buy some Riserva wine in a restaurant nearby, sit and enjoy the view, the changing lights, the music (in summer, there are concerts nearby) and the wine.
Ana-Maria A — Google review
Charming medieval town. Climbing to the top of tower for breathtaking view of ancient city and Tuscany hills absolute must
Omali — Google review
We stopped by after lunch on our Siena, Pisa, San Gimignano tour that we bought in Florence. Thanks to its historical atmosphere, one feels like they are on a movie set. It is quite enjoyable to have a few drinks in the afternoon in many nice pubs with a view. There are also very good ice cream shops around for children.

Amazing exhibit!! I love this interior architecture and seeing what the house looks like was amazing. There was no wait or line and everyone was very friendly.

Here you can see how the medieval towers look like from the inside. The museum has the house of those who lived there in the 19th century. It is well preserved and has wonderful views out. There is a video for maybe 30 min explaining the history of San Gimignano which was quite interesting.

Incredible experience. Never thought I’d be able to have such a great time with the whole of Tuscany around us. Just for the view and the atmosphere is completely worth it. Good range of affordable wines and food. Carbonara with tartufo was a complement to the view

Stunning view of San Gimignano! We forgot to book in advance, and since sitting outside with the view would have required a one-hour wait, we decided to dine indoors. The service was okay, and the food was average—not bad, but not particularly memorable. We had the salad, lasagna, and steak.
Leila S — Google review
A place with a fantastic view to Tuscany. We stayed at San Gimignano for 3 days, so this restaurant was definetly at our must visit list. I would recommend to book a table (not sure if it's possible to get a table without that, but the place is very busy and popular). The food was delicious and atmosphere very nice and welcoming. I would say it was the best place we visited in San Gimignano.
Yana B — Google review
Great experience overall but recommend making a reservation. We waited over an hour to get seated. We waited in their garden with a drink and great views. The truffle carbonara was the best we had in Italy. The minestrone was not good (not enough soup / stock)
Bianca J — Google review
A superb restaurant with a view of the surrounding Tuscan countryside ; the food is exquisite, and the location is unsurpassed. A bit on the pricier side, but it’s a nice night out if you can afford it.
Jonathan H — Google review
An unforgettable view of the rolling hills around San Gimignano made this dinner one of the best of our trip. We had reserved in advance, and it’s a good thing we did—the place was full when we arrived. The pasta with asparagus and saffron sauce was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. The wild boar pasta and Florentine-style tripe were also outstanding. I wish I were back there, watching the sunset with a glass of Chianti in hand.

If you visit San Gimignano, you've got to book a table here at Le Vecchie Mura for Dinner. Not doing so, you've not come to San Gimignano (so to speak). We were greeted with warm welcoming staffs that served us well throughout our evening. Food is delicious, as fresh as you can get like out of your own farm. Wine, let them decide that for you, they know their local vineyard. Mama Mia, mille Grazie, you guys round up our day perfectly ❤️❤️❤️

Osteria Enoteca I Quattro Gatti is a charming restaurant located in the heart of San Gimignano's historic center. The establishment offers a serene terrace where guests can savor delicious Tuscan cuisine under the shade of trees. The menu features regional specialties such as beef tagliata with truffles, rabbit in white wine with olives, and the renowned Florentine steak. Prices for main courses range from 15 to 40 euros.
Very attractive place, we were seated inside (very much okay for us) but the terrace is a great place too. We ordered the antipasti plate of the house for two with a side dish from the house (spinach with noci). It was delicious and perfect for a long lunch. Great wine and a good beer go with it. Very quick service, we do recommend this cute place with cats on your napkin and waterbottle (love it)😻😻😻

Nestled in the charming historic center of San Gimignano, Osteria San Giovanni is a delightful culinary gem that you simply cannot miss. With tables set up along the picturesque Via San Giovanni, dining here offers an enchanting atmosphere, especially as the sun sets. The restaurant prides itself on its warm and attentive service, ensuring a pleasant experience for every guest. The menu features traditional Tuscan dishes crafted with local ingredients that truly capture the essence of the region's flavors.
Night 1 - The perfect dinner. I highly recommend the pear and pecorino fagottini which was a perfect balance between savoury and sweet. The rabbit was also very tasty, and it was accompanied well by a side of roast potatoes. I would've however loved to see better bread being served at the tables. Lastly, for dessert we tried the tiramisu which was creamy and sweet. I would definitely consider returning here! Night 2 - Indeed we returned to try more dishes after realising that we can confidently order anything from the menu without being disappointed. So we had to have an authentic carbonara, as well as a well made ossobuco. As expected, absolutely delicious. This time the accompanying sides chosen were a generous portion of roast potatoes and the grilled vegetables. We are now considering coming back here as often as possible!

5 stars. No brainer. We are so glad we ended up eating in this restaurant. Service was nice and quick (for Italian standards when everything seems to take forever everywhere and waiters are sometimes blunt). So really pleasant place to eat in. The food was just amazing. We came here for dinner and then for lunch the other day. Each meal was perfectly prepared and tasted really well. I would say they use mostly local ingredients. Wine was also tasty. That seems to be common for the whole area though. We will be 100% back when we are traveling through Tuscany again.

Guests can enjoy lovely local food while seated outside overlooking the panoramic view of the valley. The menu is available in Italian, English, and French, and the service is friendly and accommodating.
Words can’t describe how delicious everything was! The food was the best we had in all Italy, the service was out of this world! Massimo and Maria Magdalena made us feel at home, a real Italian experience between the wine, pasta, desserts and company!!! I cannot recommend it enough!

We had the best dinner here! 🍽️ The food was absolutely fantastic – the spareribs were incredibly flavorful, and every dish we tried was spot on. On top of that, the service was outstanding; our waiter was super friendly and made us (and our child!) feel very welcome. We’ll definitely be coming back soon! 👏✨

As soon as l entered I knew I made the perfect choice! Among a mix of locals and tourists, I was greeted warmly by Luca & Massimo, seated immediately, and presented with a glass of sparkling wine as l looked at the menu. The wild boar stew (expertly paired with a glass of wine chosen by Luca) was DELICIOUS!! I was too full for dessert but the table next to me was thoroughly enjoying every dessert available. The space is beautiful as well, with interesting history, like much of San Gimignano. Highly recommend a visit, and I can't wait to return! Buon appetito!

This restaurant is the best in San Gimignano for all the right reasons. The views from the outdoor patio are fantastic and the atmosphere inside is even better. Lovely authentic local food, prepared by the restaurant. We had a very enjoyable evening seated outside overlooking the panoramic view of the valley. The food is great, and the service is very friendly. The waiter spoke excellent English, but the menu is in Italian, English, and French. We ate the saffron risotto, pappardelle with wild boar, and the pork loin. I'd recommend booking ahead if you want to sit outside as we saw some people turned away as the restaurant was full. There is also seating inside.

We had an amazing food and soul experience in this restaurant! Stunning views of the green valley from the tables outside! If you prefer to take a plase inside , it is even more interesting! Nice jazz music , paintings of our host and photos of jazz musicians on the walls, authentic interior and great atmosphere! Our host - David Lara told us about the history of the place, it is very old and interesting! About the food and the house wine- just perfect! About the service - even better - accurate, gentle and with great, noble sense of humor! Try this experience!

Dorando is a restaurant with luxurious decor and an exquisite menu. It offers three private rooms, each with a vaulted ceiling and imposing stone walls, which are decorated with works by local painters. The food is both beautifully presented and full of interesting history. If you're looking for a truly special dining experience, Dorando is worth the splurge.
Superior food. Superior service. Superior atmosphere! I ALWAYS eat here when in San Gimignano!

Well, the food was good, we took plate of meats and cheeses and honey and some pasta, all got some nice flavours. Def worth good! Service was very neutral. I gave 4 stars, because I dont like that the tip is mandatory, 10% extra to food and table fee. For food 5 stara from me, for owner decisions like this 3 stars, total 4

There are so many better places to eat in San Gimignano. Don’t waste your time or money here. We were looking for a different restaurant and came across this one, which had a Michelin 2017 sign at the front. Naively, we sat down before checking the reviews. The service was okay, but the food was terrible—honestly the worst ravioli we’ve ever had. The dough was overcooked, the filling tasted strange, and the pear sauce was nothing more than pear purée or jam on top of the ravioli. The flavor was awful! We didn’t finish our meal and ended up leaving to find a proper lunch in another restaurant.

I wouldn’t come here, italy has so many better restaurants than this one… The food was okay but it’s not a cheap place, the aperol spritz is 15€!! And the service was okay, not rude but nothing special. So in my opinion price and quality don’t match..

Not sure what others experienced. Pici with Guinea Fowl was divine. Wait staff were engaging and polite. It was fantastic.

How could Michelin get this so wrong? Our lunch at Ristorante Dorando was the worst meal my Mum and I ate whilst we were on holiday in Italy for 2 weeks - and was the only Michelin-starred establishment we visited. Where did it go wrong? 1) The stale bread we were served was without oil or side plates 2) When we asked for oil, side plates and salt, we were given table salt with rice and an empty bottle of olive oil 3) The smoked duck - bone dry, and tasted like cheerios (in NZ, cheerios are cheap, bright red sausages composed of beef, chicken and pork offal and sawdust) - which came with a florret of broccoli that was so over cooked it was murky green and mushy 4) Beware the appetizer of “crisp vegetables in pastry with saffron sauce” - it’s a tasteless cylinder of puréed vegetables encased in pastry (which was nice and crisp) with a tasteless yellow sauce 5) Blue pecorino ravioli with pear sauce - consisted of 5 clumsily-made ravioli with incredibly sweet stewed pear. Incipid, dry and inedible 6) Prawn ravioli - smelt it before it was put in front of me. Was supposed to come with asparagus tops; was sweet, fishy and a strange deep brown colour with no asparagus in sight When we asked for the bill, the indifferent waiter didn’t ask why 4.5 of the 5 ravioli was left untouched, or if there was something wrong with the risotto, of which about half remained. Perhaps because they have a star, they no longer care about the happiness of their cudtomers? For the €157 we spent between two of us, please take our advice and find somewhere else if you’re hungry in San Gimignano! Good bits? 1) The San Gimignano Chianti we shared was great 2) The air conditioning To put it into perspective, we had dinner later that night at Osteria Il Grattcielo in Siena which came to €20. It was one of the best meals we had in Italy. The (only) waiter was friendly and attentive, the mixed plate and hand-made pici was tasty and fresh. Go there instead :)

Thought it was a Michelin star restaurant as we saw the name Michelin on the door. We did not do a quick google search and we just went for it but we should have. Service was good and staff was very nice but food was not. Poorly cooked food, overcooked vegetables, over sauced, very bad tasting items. No olive oil with the bread.

My pasta with boar ragout was excellent and my wife liked her tomato crust dish. Pompardelle (sp). A great lunch. More expensive than many other restaurants in town.

Day 2

Off the beaten path
For day 2, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Tenuta Torciano. Not quite as popular as Palazzo Comunale, Pinacoteca, Torre Grossa - San Gimignano Musei, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 8 hours.

Tenuta Torciano is a renowned family-owned winery in San Gimignano, established in 1720. It offers an array of experiences including wine tastings featuring hundreds of wines, cooking classes, truffle hunts, and even helicopter rides. The winery also operates Hotel Torciano, a wine resort offering packages for guests to stay and dine within the heart of Tuscany.
Our Forest Picnic experience at Tenuta Torciano was absolutely wonderful. The location was easy to find, with clear directions and convenient parking nearby. When we arrived, we were invited to relax for a few minutes before being warmly welcomed by Sara. She was incredibly kind, explained everything about the place, the available activities, and the local products in detail. Then she drove us by golf cart to our picnic spot by the river — a beautifully arranged and peaceful setting with chairs, tables, and even space to sit on the grass if you prefer. There, Pietrino took care of us throughout the entire experience. He was attentive, friendly, and always ready to help — even when we asked for coffee, he quickly brought it with a smile. The whole team was wonderful, and their warm hospitality made the day even more special. We were also lucky with the weather, which made the atmosphere perfect. It was a truly relaxing and romantic experience — highly recommended for any couple looking for a quiet afternoon surrounded by nature.

We recently did the "Lunch in Winery with Tour." Overall our experience was great and would have garnered 5 stars except for two negatives, which I will describe below. First, the positives: 1. Advance email communication was great, especially in helping us set up transportation from Florence, which we did via train to and from Poggibonsi, with transport by the winery to and from Poggibonsi, which was timely, albeit a bit pricey at 60 euros for the short round trip. 2. Warmly greeted in a meeting area and quickly offered a glass of wine, very professional and high end feeling. 3. Excellent food and generous portions. 4. Fantastic wine, in abundance, with really nice selections. Negatives: 1. Tour: The website states the following "You’ll embark on a captivating tour through our lush vineyards and historic cellar rooms, where the enchanting aroma of aging barrels sets the stage for your visit." At best, this is a gross exaggeration if not downright untrue. The "tour" consisted of 5 - 10 minutes standing out in a grass area observing and learning about grape vines (soil conditions, type of grape, leaf structure, etc.). 2. Sales pitch: This might be a little unfair, given that it is a winery, but there was a clear sense they were trying to sell wine and wanted you to buy some, although definitely not high pressure at all, to their credit. As an fyi, we bought 5 bottles (4 red, one white) for shipment to our home in the US, mainly because the wine was delicious and super high quality. Note that their focus is on red wine.

Deeply Disappointing and Entirely Inauthentic Our visit to Tenuta Torciano was one of the most disappointing experiences we had in Tuscany. What was described as a tour through vineyards and historic cellars turned out to be a staged, commercial setup designed purely for sales — not for sharing wine culture or passion. There was no real vineyard or cellar tour. Instead, we were taken on a brief 10-minute walk past a small “show” vineyard used for different tourist activities, followed by a presentation of packages and products. Everything felt scripted and centered around selling rather than storytelling or authenticity. The lunch and wine tasting were equally underwhelming: a single cheese, a few slices of salami, a small portion of lasagna, and two thin pieces of pork. The wines were accompanied by price lists placed right on the table, adding to the sense that this was more of a sales pitch than a genuine tasting. To make matters worse, the staff and owner were visibly tense and unprofessional, even arguing with one another in front of guests. The entire atmosphere felt uncomfortable and pressured. Adding to the discomfort, we noticed staff appearing unhappy and uneasy. Overall, this experience was the opposite of what one expects from Tuscany’s warm, family-run wineries. It lacked authenticity, respect, and hospitality. What could have been a memorable day in wine country turned into an unpleasant reminder of how commercial tourism can ruin the magic of a place.

Lunch in winery with tour. A little tour of the grounds with Luciano, a 14th generation family member. Interesting and we were able to taste both varieties of grapes straight from the vine. Lunch and the wine tasting were phenomenal. 7 different wines from the winery with local salami, cheese, olive oils, bruschetta and Nonna's lasagna. Pietro, our sommelier was amusing, helpful and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend this winery experience.

Agriturismo Poderi Arcangelo San Gimignano offers a vintage vibe in its rooms, suites, and apartments located on a farm estate with three swimming pools. The working Italian farm is nestled in the Tuscany region, providing stunning views and attentive staff. Guests can enjoy activities such as cooking classes and free wine tastings.
My girlfriend arranged our vacation and choose the Arcangelo house for 9 nights. The room was just what we needed. Clean, a beautifull view over the surrounding hills, airconditioning and a quite and refreshing pool. The pool is big enough to swim, has an amazing view over the hills with vineyards and olive trees, and in the distance Certaldo alto. The breakfast is in the main house, which is a 3min walk (our tempo). It is a large buffet with regional products and a good coffee machine. A good start for the day. My girlfriend choose the location because it is central in Tuscany, 1min downhill to the main street and close enough to Certaldo and San Giminano to get groceries for on the road and dinner in the old cities. In the evening, there is the option to have dinner. It's a 4 course dinner that changes every day. We liked it because we don't have to make choices, which is very nice, and it was super delicious each time. To finish, it's a winery and the wines are good! We tasted a lot of Chianti and other local wines and didn't like them all but the wines from Poderi Arcangelo are amazing. When you pass by, buy a couple of bottles, or boxes like we did, and do not forget the olive oil and Balsamic saus (there is nothing for comparison in the supermarket). Thank you for the great vacation.

We’d honestly rather not write about this place — this is our third time here, and we’d love to keep it all to ourselves 😄 But truth be told, Poderi Arcangelo is absolutely wonderful. The view from the main building and the pool overlooking the surrounding vineyards, olive groves, and farmland is simply fantastic. You can even see San Gimignano in the distance! The surroundings, garden, terraces, hallways, and rooms are all very clean and well-maintained. The rooms are tastefully furnished — old furniture adds to the charming Tuscan atmosphere. We usually only go for breakfast, which — by Italian standards — is quite generous: cereals and granola with yogurt, cold cuts, cheese, eggs, and of course croissants, cakes, and coffee. Perfect for us. We only opted for dinner a few times. At €32 per person, it’s a bit pricey compared to nearby restaurants, but still worth trying. The entire property is intimate, quiet, and peaceful — which is why we were a bit concerned to see a bar built by the pool. On Sunday, it was playing loud music, though fortunately it was quiet again on the following days. Hopefully that was a one-time thing, because we truly care about this special Tuscan place.

The property is beautiful. The views are spectacular no matter where you are. The sunset comes up over the breakfast patio and set over the infinity pool in the building we stayed in. The wine tasting tour was so nice. We had a tour of the grounds, cellar, and tasted several wines, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We ordered some of each to be delivered to our home. We chose to eat dinner on site twice and we were pleased with our meal. The location was great for heading out for day trips to Florence, Siena, and of course San Gimignano. There are a lot of nearby vineyards to do tastings of other wines as well. We took advantage of the pool late in the day to relax after exploring and before dinner. The most important thing to mention is the staff. Everyone we talked to at Poderi Arcangelo was super friendly and helpful. What a relaxing and peaceful place to stay while exploring Tuscany! Cheers!

Instant Relaxation in the Heart of Tuscany We stayed at Poderi Arcangelo for three nights, and within 24 hours, I could feel the stress of work melt away. There’s something incredibly calming about this place the peaceful views over the vineyards, the quiet stillness of the countryside, and the natural rhythm of Tuscan life. My resting heart rate literally dropped from 60 to 52 by the end of our stay - I checked on Apple Health! The pool overlooks the hills, and mornings were spent sipping cappuccino while the landscape glowed. It’s the kind of setting that slows your heartbeat and clears your head. I haven’t felt this physically relaxed in a long time. Breakfast was just right: eggs, omelet, mortadella, fresh veggies, pastries, and good coffee. Dinner is served at €35 per person - overall very enjoyable, though the last dinner on Wednesday felt a bit underwhelming. We also splurged on a Bistecca alla Fiorentina, which made for a memorable meal. They have an on-site winery and produce their own olive oil, adding even more local charm. We took the Tuscan cooking class together a fun and intimate couple’s activity. We’re now heading home not just with souvenirs, but new memories and a shared love for making ravioli. It’s also perfectly located for exploring nearby towns. You don’t need to stay inside a medieval village - just visit, wander, and return to the tranquility of the hills. I get it now why Michelangelo painted here. I’d absolutely return.

My husband and I stayed here a few years ago and loved it so much we returned this year. This place is a real gem.. It is located At the top of the hill overlooking the Vineyard. The view from our patio room was breathtaking. Each day we enjoyed sitting and and drinking their wines (produced in their very own vineyards) as we watched the sunset. This is a family run business and it showed! All staff were extremely friendly and and helpful with any questions we had. We also participated in a cooking class this trip which was amazing! If you’re looking for a place to stay in the Tuscan region, I would highly recommend this place.

We had a terrible family room. Very small, no space for clothes, air con was not working during the day (you just get one card so as to not keep air con running during the day) and very loud, so impossible to sleep with. Beds were very small and short. Lights of the fuse box were very annoying at night. We could hardly sleep. Breakfast does not reflect Tuscan standards. No fresh fruit (besides some slices of water melon), self service coffee from a fully automated machine. Tables are not prepared (tables during breakfast look like in a youth hostel). Mouse sh… on the stairs to the room (see pictures). Overall a very unpleasant stay in a place that has a beautiful setting and an enormous potential. Tried to talk to the management, got offered a “real” family room for a surcharge of 135 euro per night. Management seemed not very open for criticism. They just said that other customers do pay that price without complaining.

Nestled just south of the Church of Saint Augustine, Locanda Di Sant'Agostino Osteria offers a delightful dining experience in the heart of San Gimignano. The cozy interior and outdoor seating provide a charming setting to savor typical Tuscan dishes like rustic ragu, thin-crust margherita pizza, and pesto pasta paired with local wines.
Love this, a gem of a place that cherishes local produce, with pride in their products and dishes, and a friendly service. We enjoyed the Pici, the Tagliatelle and Bruschetta, all were good portions. We never felt like tourists.

The menu was not what we had seen online, it had very limited options. We had Greek salad, Sausage with potatoes, Pasta with Basil pesto and a glass of beer. Food was not bad, but nothing extraordinary. We have had way better tasting food in other restaurants in San Gimignano. The interior is quite interesting and colorful. All in all a decent experience, but nothing which would bring me back here again.

We were told to find a restaurant off of the busy main strips in San Gimignano. Found this place by chance. Delicious food (probably one of our favourite meals during our time in Tuscany) at a reasonable price. We ordered some pastas, pizzas, and salads, and nobody was disappointed. The caprese was presented in tower form - they clearly put a lot of care into their food. Service was very friendly. The outdoor eating area was great, but we chose to sit inside due to the heat. The inside was even cuter, like an Italian fairytale home. 10/10 charm factor, it's a shame they don't let you take pictures inside but it helped us take in adorable space even more.

The Fonti Medievali is a tourist attraction in San Gimignano that is well worth seeing. It is known for its painted murals, which are beautiful to look at. The town itself is small but very interesting, and has a great amount of history. It would be a good idea to take a tour of the city to really get a sense of all the buildings and their meanings. Additionally, this attraction also has some of the best gelato in the world!
Charming medieval village. Try to go at beginning or end of day for less tourists. It's fun to get lost in the alleys and ramps. Like a fun game of chutes and ladders. You can't really get lost unless you leave the medieval part. If you are adventurous, don't mind a short but steep hill, and like trail hiking, try navigating to the far north walls, and go down to the ancient fountain. It's not much to look at, and a bit smelly, but the way to it is special with NO tourists. I felt like I could have been back in the Middle Ages at that special moment. Also, the monuments across the street from the village are worth a look. One pays homage to local heroes from 4 different war periods, and has emotional statues attached to it.
Jack D — Google review
It's a bit of a walk from the center, with a lot of downhill sections, making the return trip challenging. The Fonti itself was interesting to see, but the surrounding area felt somewhat neglected and in need of maintenance. While it was worth visiting, the city could do more to maintain the site.
Bas R — Google review
Unfortunately CLOSED, apparently for maintenance until unknown date! (Today is 18/08/25) It’s a bit far away from the centre so a sign that said “closed” would have been appreciated before walking all the way down there… Hope to see them another time ;)

Every year we stay just below San Gimignano. I always take a walk through the town in the early morning hours. About 6 years ago I discovered these ancient cisterns dating to the fourteenth century. I’ve made at least 10 visit and I can’t describe the sense of peace I find there. Sounds of dripping water and beautiful arched cisterns. I hesitate to even post this for fear of too many visitors as I he e never met anyone there.

Osteria Delle Catene is a charming and cozy restaurant located in San Gimignano, offering traditional Tuscan dishes such as saffron-infused specialties. The restaurant is known for its signature dish, the gran tagliere dellosteria, a generous mixed antipasto meant for sharing. Being served by the owner was really charming and he's super attentive, but I didn't like neither the truffle nor the wild boar tagliatelle. The wild boar one had more water in the sauce than meat. To be fair, the town is so touristy that who knows if there are actually better options out there.

A traditional Tuscan osteria tucked away in the heart of San Gimignano. The setting was beautiful with white tablecloths and flowers on every table, giving it a charming and classic feel. The service was decent, though not outstanding. We had a short wait for menus despite being one of only two groups there when it opened, and later it took a while to get our bill and a takeaway container. The food was good quality, with handmade pici that was perfectly cooked. I ordered the Pici all’Aglione—a very traditional Tuscan garlic pasta. While the pasta itself was excellent, the sauce wasn’t to my taste. It had a strong, slightly bitter garlic flavor that didn’t sit well with me, though I can imagine garlic lovers enjoying it more. Overall, a classic osteria experience with beautiful presentation and authentic dishes, though for me, the flavors didn’t completely hit the mark.

This was probably my favorite meal I had in Tuscany. The restaurant is tucked away on a quiet side street away from any crowds. We sat outside as it was still a nice fall evening. The food was delicious. As someone who loves strong flavors, I thought their pasta dish with garlic and anchovies was amazing. The atmosphere was very quiet and relaxing. We visited on a day where they did not close between lunch and dinner which was very helpful for our group who always manages to eat dinner super early!

Echoes Bruschetteria is a charming little eatery that offers over 50 types of bruschetta, making it a haven for bruschetta lovers. The portions are generous and bursting with flavor, ensuring that guests leave feeling satisfied. The restaurant also boasts reasonably priced wine, creating the perfect pairing for the delectable bruschettas. Nestled in a non-touristic street, this gem provides a relaxing and quiet atmosphere where visitors can savor their meal.
Hidden gem! Lovely people and amazing food. Tucked away on the edge of town, away from the hustle and bustle. We go every time we’re in San Gimignano! Lovely sitting outside in the lane and watching the swallows come and go!

I didn't intend to write a review—because of the recent negative reviews—but seeing how an awfully suspicious five-star rating popped up, I just had to share my experience. Something has CLEARLY gone wrong in the last few days because this restaurant is no longer what its reviews and images indicate. I had dinner here and ordered a panini; it was bland, with the biggest loaves I have ever seen. The loaves were untoasted, dry, and had a maximum of three drops of olive oil. The Parma ham was extremely thick—NOT TRADITIONAL—making it impossible to eat. The ends of the tomatoes were used, making for an extremely unappealing and overall bland meal. It's like the current owner/chef doesn't know what seasoning is. I can't speak for the bruschettas (only served in the morning), but I assume they share a similar story, as also indicated by a recent review. I don't want to bash the restaurant, but this "food" is barely fit for human consumption. I urge the owner to take a look inward and realize the glaring issues with this restaurant. The service was okay—he had a hard time speaking and understanding English—and the atmosphere was calming, though the walkway by the restaurant was quite narrow. The recent five-star review contradicts all my points, which is why I am almost certain it is propaganda by the owner. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but the points in that review are EXACTLY what he told us when we asked him about our meal at the restaurant. For now, I do not recommend going here to eat, especially not for dinner.

!!Tourist Trap Alert!! We paid €9 each for bruschetta and received a single slice of bread with a drizzle of olive oil and one lonely piece of garlic in the center—definitely not worth the price. While paying inside, I saw the chef preparing more bruschetta and casually sniffing the sausage before using it. After that, we were actually relieved we’d only ordered the plain version. Strongly recommend avoiding this place.

We enjoyed the mixed starter, nothing amazing but a nice start to the meal. The wild boar ragù was very nice but the pappa pomodoro was quite a disappointment, we certainly tried a lot better on our trip, this was acidic and unpleasant. It was an okay experience, staff were friendly, we just know there are nicer restaurants just around the corner.

Nice restaurant! They speciality is wine and beer. A soda is quite expensive, 3.50. A glass of wine is just 4.00. Bruschetta is large but might be a bit underwhelming if you're very hungry (like I was). Place itself is relaxing and quiet. Recommend ordering just ham and not too much other ingredients.
Olav V — Google review
Wonderful bruschettas!! They had so many choices so it was definitely their speciality. We only order 3 portions of bruschetta to share between 2 and it was more than enough. Lovely staff too. Surprise that they didn’t have more customers, the atmosphere was also cool, we sat under a bridge-like structure on a slope.

We visited this absolutely delightful restaurant in October of 2019. We just stumbled on it via Trip Advisor and had no idea that it was named after the Pink Floyd album, and we are huge Floyd fans! The food was spectacular, the ambience was cute, and the owner was very gracious.

A small butcher shop with a wide range of raw meats, Risto Macelleria I Piaceri Della Carne is perfect for meat enthusiasts. The food is great, and the surroundings are quite beautiful and quiet. Because of the language barrier (Dutch - Italian), some difficulties may occur ordering food but the staff are always happy to help out. This is a must-visit spot in S.Gimignano.
Fantastic meat delicacy in heart of the place - what I liked best was that I was informed at the very beginning before taking the table that the place serves mainly meat and no pastas and pizzas. The meat quality and taste was top notch - i was blown away by the flavours. Also the quantity served was very generous considering the price. Ambience is great too.

This is a place If U LOVE meat and local coldcuts. I had the mixed platter and a great tartar. The chef ((ottimo)) makes the tartar after ordering. If U sit inside to the left U can see it live. This was the first time I had tartar made by a PRO ! #vegansstayaway

The food and wine were divine. Price OK too. We had a fantastic evening here and would recommend this to anyone who enjoys great meat and Italian flair. Perfect!!!!

We are just finishing our lunch. It was delicious and Alessio was so caring to all of us. We were 4 adults, 2 kids and 2 toddlers and he catered to everyone’s needs. The food was delicious, we had bruschetta with sausage, the tartar and carpaccio, and he recommended pasta for the kids that came very fast. They make in-house products and you can feel the passion and quality that goes into their work. Thank you and good luck!

The food was really great (tartar and carpacio), we had a nice time. Piazza Sant'agostino is one of the more beautiful and quiet places of S.Gimignano. Due to the language barrier (Dutch - Italian) we had some difficulties ordering the food. Fortunately, the staff was very kind and solution oriented. This restaurant is absolutely worth a visit.

Cum Quibus - Ristorante Toscano is a charming Tuscan restaurant located in San Gimignano. The restaurant offers refined tasting menus with expertly paired wines in a rustic setting featuring exposed brick walls and a lovely courtyard for outdoor dining. Known for its creative and original dishes made from high-quality Tuscan ingredients, the menu at Cum Quibus is both traditional and innovative.
What an experience. Food, amazing! Service, amazing! Price, amazing. We had asked in a juweler-store in San Gimignano where it would be best to eat. It should be good italian food, not to touristy, not to high-class. They immediately recommended this restaurant. And what a treat it was!!! Extremely, extremely high quality and sitting outside in the yard; it felt like sitting at a friend's garden. If you want a real experience in San Gimignano; go here for dinner. It is an absolute joy!!

We had the tasting menu with wine pairing and loved everything — food, wines, and service. We sat in the cozy courtyard and just enjoyed the evening. Service was unobtrusive yet courteous, and you can feel the team and the chef really care. Every course was delicious. Only tiny note: wine pours in the pairing could be a touch more generous. Overall, outstanding — highly recommended.

Restaurant
Osteria del Carcere is a charming restaurant located near Piazza della Cisterna in San Gimignano, offering traditional and high-quality Tuscan cuisine. Despite being called an osteria, it resembles more of a wine bar with a diverse menu including various pates, seasonal soups, salads, cheese boards, terrines, roast meats, and homemade desserts. Guests can enjoy exquisite soups such as porcini or vegetable-based options.
Amazing experience here!! Got recommended to us by the lady who rent us her apartment and honestly could not have gotten a better recommendation! The food was amazing, simple yet done well and the staff here were so friendly and welcoming.

Best tomato soup I’ve ever had, and the salads here are just incredible. We have come here twice during our stay and both times it has been an absolute pleasure! The music and atmosphere is beautiful, very open and pretty, it is cosy and warm despite the doors being open next to our table. Osteria del Carcere in San Gimignano is a fantastic Italian osteria that offers a delightful selection of typical Italian dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience as the food was outstanding. From the delectable antipasti to the delightful dolce, every dish was a culinary delight. The authenticity and quality of the food truly impressed us. The warm and welcoming atmosphere, along with the attentive staff, added to the overall charm of the place. If you're looking for a taste of authentic Italian cuisine in San Gimignano, Osteria del Carcere is a must-visit.

After a half-day of wandering about San Gimignano, I was starving, but disinclined to settle for something mediocre. I eyeballed several restaurants, and decided the Osteria del Carcere looked most promising. I waited outside for the 15 or so minutes before it opened, and was rewarded with an excellent traditional Tuscan meal served with warmth and grace by the proprietor (who also served as my expert sommelier the equal of any in any great restaurant anywhere). From beginning to end, an unusually pleasant and memorable meal accompanied by excellent wine. Its location slightly away from "the madding crowd's ignoble strife" is a plus.

Had a late dinner here. Enjoyed our meal and the ambience of the place. The staff were very friendly. I had the turkey which was an interesting combination with orange that I would have never thought off. The Desserts are a must-have. We could not decide which one to get so we got the sampler.
Kim S — Google review
Service was a little slow as it's a family business with no extra wait staff. Prices a little on the expensive side but produce is excellent! The orange salad was light and refreshing, the soups hearty but not heavy, and the pork loin was well cooked with an abundance of rosemary aroma. Well worth it.

Center of town
For day 3, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Museo Etrusco Mario Guarnacci, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to SanGimignano1300. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

The Etruscan Museum "Mario Guarnacci" has a rich history, dating back to 1761 when Mario Guarnacci donated his archaeological collection to the city of Volterra. This generous donation included a vast library and unique works from various centuries. The museum is home to the famous Ombra della Sera sculpture and also houses the Volterra Picture Gallery with masterpieces like Rosso Fiorentino's Deposition.
Since I knew next to nothing about this pre-Roman civilization and was intrigued, the museum was the main attraction I wanted to see in Volterra. However, we almost passed it by as it looked so unimposing on the outside and there didn't seem to be anywhere to park nearby. In fact, there is some parking just 50 yards down the road, with a scenic view. Inside, the museum is very modern and well organized. The displays are beautiful and have more interpretive material than we had seen in some other museums. I highly recommend visiting.
Mike B — Google review
We went there on the Notte Bianca (7/19/2025) when all the museum in the city is free after 21:00. We were the one of the first into the museum when it opened at 21:00 and we’re the only ones on the second floor where the famous sculptures are. Really cool experience to be able to explore a museum at night with so little people and being able to see the artifacts up close without being rushed by other tourists. Really recommend going on a Notte Bianca.
Derrick H — Google review
For lovers of Etruscan history, and for those just learning about the importance of the Etruscans, this museum is superb. From funerary uns, to bronze sculptures, to amazing household artifacts, this museum has it all. We spent over 2 hours inside and loved every minute. Plus, a huge bonus for us were the several beautiful (but covered) mosaic floors! Such a great museum!
Dax P — Google review
Amazing museum. Amidst all the Roman ruins in Italy, the Etruscans often get overlooked. This museum has a ton of artifacts from the Etruscans -- older than the Roman empire and incredibly well preserved. The signage is mostly bilingual. Where it's only available in Italian, staff were willing to give us an explanation in English.
Ari E — Google review
We'd read the reviews and were conflicted. Is this another old museum? NO. This is THE presentation of Etruscan life. The museum has undergone an amazing upgrade thanks to the EU. Ok, there are a couple of rooms with exhibits that are dated. But the rest are great. Seems a major project has occurred in 2025. Information is presented in Italian and English. The new displays are classy. We knew nothing about Etruscan culture. Now we know a bit more. Worth a visit for sure
Robert A — Google review
An intriguing museum that was the surprise highlight of our visit to Volterra! Just visible on a distant hilltop, Volterra was pointed out to us by a local winery owner as a city we needed to visit because of its place in Tuscan history and its unique cultural artifacts - the burial urns of the Etruscans and its Roman theater. We didn't know much more than that, but we knew enough to trust when someone recommends something to us with nothing to gain for themselves, and we couldn't be happier we followed that instinct. This is one of those amazing museums that makes you want to continue to learn more even after you leave!
Daniel P — Google review
This Museum contains a beautiful collection of sarcophagi and other Etruscan tools. Very interesting, and definitely worth a visit. Having an elevator, it is accessible and comfortable, too. Still, the museum lacks modernity: there is no introduction to the Etruscans, and being unprepared it takes a while to understand what the exhibition is all about. Doesn‘t matter, maybe, when there are plenty of guards, as in this museum. You could simply ask, couldn‘t you? Unfortunately, the guards I talked to also couldn‘t explain the Etruscans, too. Thus, 3 stars. But hey, just a video intro and a little bit of tutoring and us visitors would all be set, wouldn‘t we?
Jan B — Google review
This museum is a must see if you’re in Volterra, as it shines a bright light on the Etruscan (pre-Roman) civilisation. The collection is somewhat uneven - there are some sections which look as if they’re still awaiting reorganisation and improved explanatory notices, and there are more funerary urns than most people need, but the most important sections are well laid out and explained, and include some fascinating and beautiful items, such as the very extended figure of a young man, and even some of the funerary urns! Highly recommended.

Parcheggio Giubileo P1 is a convenient and affordable parking option for visiting San Gimignano. It is located just a 10-minute walk from the UNESCO site, making it easy to access without entering the town. The parking fee is reasonable at 1.50 EUR per hour with a maximum of 6 EUR per day. Despite being busy during peak times, there are plenty of spaces available, and the wait time is not excessive.
Very fair priced parking just about a 10-minute walk from the gate of San Gimignano. Highly recommended!
Lukris — Google review
There are certainly closer options, but I didn't feel like working too hard for a spot and this seemed like an easy option. There is an uphill climb but it wasn't too bad. The eastern corner is right by the road, so the walk is shorter than what Google maps tells you.
Patrick V — Google review
Easily accessible, plenty of parking across P1-3 and all the same price - €2 per hour for the first 3 hours, then €1.50 per hour for an hours beyond that. It isn’t cheap but it’s convenient and the centre is a 10 minute walk away. You pay on exit and can pay by cash or card at the machine
Louise E — Google review
€6 for over 4 hours so not too expensive. Easy to find and only 5mins to the action of the village centre. Only advice is if you have a big car, then skip the first terrace as it's very difficult to manoeuvre. Head up to terrace 2 or 3 which gives much better access.
Andrew A — Google review
Good parking, quite tight as the other reviews say, however they have a bus point there and some of the tour group that needed a bus waited up to an hour without the bus ever showing up. We still had to pay for punching our ticket despite a bus never showing.
Miles H — Google review
Very crowded, avoid first row of spots if possible. Insanely narrow and no angle. Top level much easier. Probably easier to leave also.
Michael K — Google review
Cheap parking, with a slight uphill walk to the town. If you've got a medium - large car, manoeuvring can be tight. Take a ticket on entry, pay at the machine before you leave.

The Museum of Torture in Tuscany offers a unique and macabre experience for those interested in the darker side of history. Located near Porta San Giovanni, the museum houses a collection of torture instruments from all over Europe dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Visitors can explore classic devices such as the iron maiden and the rack, as well as lesser-known tools like the heretics fork and Spanish spiders designed specifically for women.
Creepy, crazy and educational all rolled into one. One of the better museums, very friendly staff, clean, tidy, marked. the most interesting is their basement, which is dug into the rock and where there are still original stone steps. It is possible to see torture devices from different eras and cultures. You will see things and devices that you would never have imagined existed.
Simon P — Google review
During my trip to San Gimignano I visited the Museum of Torture located near the heart of the old town. The exhibits are intense and shocking but historically informative. You will see original and replica instruments that illustrate how brutal justice once was. While the space is not too large, the museum is well curated with multilingual descriptions. Not for the faint-hearted, but definitely a unique and eye-opening stop that adds depth to the cultural experience of the city. I would recommend it if you are interested in history or dark tourism.
Miodrag J — Google review
Very illustrated and easy to understand museum. It is quite scary and we all had a very bad stomach ache afterwards but this was expectable concerning the issue at hand. The topics are diverse and all time periods are considered.

Interesting activity to do inside. There are two small museums, located in two different locations. They aren’t too far apart. We arrived about an hour before close and had the option to see the second one the next day, just had to keep the receipt. We were able to do both museums in an hour.

Very exciting place if you're not afraid of going into the scary and dark part of the italian history. Good experience but it was too hard to find the second building of the museum in the city because of the few signs and guidance.

Very interesting museum, informative and a look back into more primitive times and understanding of the world. Some of the devices are a clear inspiration for the SAW movies and in certain parts of the world are used to this day. We need to learn from our past mistakes as a collective.

Nestled just east of the Piazza della Cisterna, the Museo Della Tortura E Della Pena Di Morte offers a chilling glimpse into humanity's darker past. This museum showcases an unsettling collection of medieval torture devices that may intrigue older teens seeking something beyond the usual tourist attractions. While it might initially appear small, its detailed exhibits provide profound insights into historical cruelty and punishment. Visitors should prepare for graphic content; it's not your typical family outing!
A truly unexpected find in Tuscany. If you have a palate for the morbid, this is a fascinating stop. Midevil torture devices, chastity belts, and other strange instruments of death and torture are around every corner.

The museum is small but interesting. The app with extra spoken info didn't work. And more historical info about the instrument would have been better.

Excellent value for €10. Very interesting explanations of multiple types of torture. You can access both museums. We personally prefer this one as the second one was more focused on witches and inquistion. Totally worth a visit.

It is quite shocking but interesting. Don’t bring kids if they are too small. You can see two museums with the same ticket, this one and the one beside the gate about the inquisition. Worth the visit.
Gloria F — Google review
The museum is interesting g but the displays are fairly limited. Soe t only about 45min and we were done. EUR50 for a family of 5 so quite expensive. Still worth a visit but I think the one in Sienna has more on display.
Local G — Google review
The museum is quite well done, but visitors should be aware that it is fairly graphic. Our kids were entertained but only because they were too young to really grasp the significance, and I'm not sure I would take them back again. Worth seeing how brutal humans can be to each other as a reminder.

Podere La Marronaia is a biodynamic winery and farm in Tuscany that offers an amazing experience for visitors. The staff is brilliant, and the setting is wonderful, making it a perfect choice for wine tasting. They are accommodating to dietary restrictions with advance notice. Visitors can enjoy wine and cheese tastings or even book truffle tastings, which include surprises like olive oil and balsamic vinegar tastings.
Adriano was a superb host! I don't know if the experience would have been worth the price without him. He made all the difference. Delicious wine and plenty of snacks. I recommend going in the regular season because if you go in winter all the vines are cut, which I probably should have realized but was so excited I did not

We took part in their “Wine Tasting with a Meal” ~ wine, EVO oil, & balsamic tasting with a Tuscan meal. It was a perfect afternoon! Giulia was our host and she helped make it an amazing experience. She was so kind and welcoming. The views are gorgeous, our lunch was delicious, and of course the wine was wonderful. We loved that it was not only a wine tasting, but trying the different olive oils & vinegars really made it special. We also loved how close it was to town. When we are in Tuscany again, we will definitely return.
The S — Google review
We visited this winery as part of our honeymoon and were immediately taken by the stunning views and warm hospitality. The property, while situated right off the main road and not exactly a hidden gem, is still incredibly charming — a lovely setting with wide-open views of the Tuscan countryside. The wine, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar tasting itself, however, felt a bit underwhelming. Our waiter, "Sam", seemed to be reciting from a script rather than speaking with genuine enthusiasm or connection to the wines and oils. There was no guidance at all during the oil and vinegar portion, and by the end, we weren’t even asked if we had tried them. It wasn’t a bad experience by any means — but it lacked the personal storytelling and passion that can elevate a tasting and make it truly memorable. I would recommend having a different staff member take you on the tasting journey. The staff overall were friendly and welcoming. A special shoutout to Dario, who was helpful and kind when we ordered an additional glass of wine to enjoy while walking the grounds — a relaxing way to take in the scenery. All in all, it’s a beautiful spot with kind people and great views — we just wished for a bit more authenticity and engagement in the tasting itself. Based on my wine tasting experiences around the world, the pricing here felt a bit on the higher end for what was offered.

We Booked a wine tasting with snacks, several weeks in advance. Such a great decision. We had the most wonderful 2 hours and never felt rushed. Had a perfect mix of receiving wine information and being left alone for us to enjoy the view. Highly recommend!

One of the finest Vinyards that we have patronized. Adriano served us well, always polite and had a sharp sense of humour. Originally from Romania, brought up here in Tuscany, we're fortunate to have him elaborate on the Tuscans way of living. Food is authentic Tuscany and the freshness is undoubted. We had a fabulous time here and highly recommend visiting ❤️❤️❤️

We took a private cooking class at Podere La Marronaia and it was one of the highlights of our trip. The chef guiding us was warm, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable, making the experience both fun and approachable. We made bruschetta, cacio e pepe, and gnocchi, and everything turned out delicious. After the class, we got to taste their excellent wines, as well as their olive oil and balsamic vinegar.. The setting is beautiful and peaceful, just about an hour outside of Florence, and well worth the trip. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an authentic, hands-on Tuscan experience.

Such a waste of time. We took a detour to visit this region and booked this winery but when we arrived they said it was cancelled. They said they tried to contact us but with no success. Another couple also got cancelled. We got the money back but no compensation for waste of vacation time, an extra Hotel night and fuel, just a big disappointment. Don’t book this winery, there are lots of other good ones in the region! As you can see below the Winery threatens to take legal action if I don’t remove the bad review. I will not be silenced but have instead edited the review to make it more clear what happened from my point of view.

SanGimignano1300 is a must-visit attraction in San Gimignano, Tuscany. It features a detailed model of the medieval town, complete with towers and churches, providing visitors with a glimpse into the town's rich history. The exhibit showcases the town as it was in 1300, at the peak of its wealth and power when 72 towers adorned its skyline.
This little museum was so neat. Upon entry, they have a little room full of souvenirs then the next room which is the miniature San Gimignano. We went in December 2024 and my 7 year old thought it was very cool. So detailed and well done. Definitely worth it to check it out if you're in San Gimignano. 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
MJG — Google review
San Gimignano is an Italian hill town in Tuscany, southwest of Florence. Encircled by 13th-century walls, its old town centers on Piazza della Cisterna, a triangular square lined with medieval houses. It has a skyline of medieval towers, including the stone Torre Grossa. The Duomo di San Gimignano is a 12th-century church with frescoes by Ghirlandaio in its Santa Fina Chapel.
Ege A — Google review
The museum is a little off the main tourist road up the slope. This is probably why this great museum is not overcrowded, although it does not cost any admission. But for a donation, young and old can marvel at a bombastic miniature version of the city from around 1300. Impressive above all because it comes very close to its current state.
Tassilo K — Google review
Really enjoyed the perspective of seeing the entire walled city. Came back after walking tour as lovely gift shop with purchases supporting the museum/display.

Very cool model of the entire San Gimignano village. Free entry. Helps you get a feel for the scope and also explains the tower houses and how they worked. Definitely worth taking a look at!

It is free 3D recreation of the town as 1300. It says that 2 brothers made it in 2 years. Must see place. Do not forget to support it by buying some nice gifts to your loved ones.

This cozy little spot may not have much seating due to its impressive brick oven, but that only adds to its charm. The pizza is super Monismo (super delicacy) With white wine and red wine are the perfect combination! Enjoy the quick lunch here.

Affordable Pizza by the slice! 🍕 It was surprisingly good! I’d have gotten another slice if not for many other food we had to try in San Gimignano. It was napolitan style, my favorite, and the sauce was spot-on plus it was cheesyyyy i loved it! Must try when you’re in the area👌

This is a really nice Pizza shop just at the entrance of San Gimignano old town. The place is very small so there are only few high seats available. Crunchy and tasty thin crust pizza in city center. They sell it in a slice at affordable price - pick what flavor you want and go. So far the best. We recommend it for everyone.
Art B — Google review
Giving 5 for flavour the pizza had and 1 star for the lady who works there. Has no empathy for tourist it seems. I usually don't leave negative reviews, but our experience at this pizza place was disappointing. The lady working at the counter was extremely rude and unprofessional. My friend was paying for our order and had already placed €5 on the counter. While he was getting the remaining 50 cents out of his pocket, the lady started making exaggerated, rude faces as if we were planning to shortchange her. We were buying 7 slices of pizza, not trying to skip out on the bill. Her reaction was completely uncalled for and made us feel very uncomfortable. It's a shame because the pizza itself was decent, but the service was terrible. A little patience and kindness go a long way in customer service, and unfortunately, that was missing here.

La Biscondola Di Volpini Stefania & C in San Gimignano offers an authentic Tuscan dining experience with a menu that tells a story through each dish. Visitors are pleasantly surprised by the delicious and affordable food, prompting them to stay for lunch after initially planning to enjoy drinks and the stunning views of the medieval town. The tartufo pasta is highly recommended, while even non-burger enthusiasts find themselves enjoying the fresh and flavorful burger options.
Would give this 10 stars if we could. The service was fantastic - Ama and Max were professional, friendly, and incredibly efficient. We are very picky when it comes to service having both worked in hospitality before and these guys were rockstars! Food was hot, well made, and portion sizes were solid. Price was very fair for what you got. We were hungry so had an appetizer, a dinner, desert, and got a pizza to go (please don’t judge us, it’s our honeymoon!) Atmosphere was perfect. A beautiful location and great vibe with good music and lighting. I’m not sure why this place isn’t rated a 5/5 but you definitely need to try this for yourself. It’s well worth it! Thanks for a great highlight for our honeymoon!!

Located at a little corner, La Biscondola serves up simple Italian fare. We visited after lunchtime and it was one of the few eateries still open and taking customers. Food was great overall, the vibes were good, service was prompt and friendly. As we were sharing a pasta, the crew even portioned out the pasta proactively before serving. Recommended if you are around the area!

Cheese and meat platters were good, other dishes were decent, great location and nice sitting outside, but service could do with a bit more friendliness and it felt a bit expensive in comparison to other places we ate with similar quality. Pretty good overall.

Olivieri Bistrot is a charming restaurant located in a tourist area with a small but fresh menu. The staff is friendly and efficient, offering fitting wine recommendations. We had a nice lunch outdoors, with several bottles of CASTELLO BROLIO CHIANTI CLASSICO GRAN SELEZIONE, 2015. The Pomodoro and funghi bruschetta were fine, but the spaghetti in black garlic cream and bottarga, and the carbonara pasta were really good. The pici with white rabbit ragu lacked flavor.

Very friendly staff, very competent Somelier with very fitting wine recommendations to the dishes. Fast service even during rush hour. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but hey: it's a tourist area. Their menu isn't too big, but what they offer is fresh (lobster wasn't a frozen one!) and very well prepared (the baked potatoes were a little bit too oily and could use some creative seasoning, but the beef cuts were perfect). All in all: We had a great dinner. Thank you! Ate here a second time! The Ravioli with the slow cooked onion and pork cheek had so much flavor! The sweetness of the onion and the salty and smokiness of the porc complemented each other perfectly. Great! Thank you also for the very good service!

Tatar beef was okey but it needed more salt and grand for my taste. Beefstake was also fine but not good enough for 5 stars. Service was very friendly and they have best place to eat outside on the street for a good atmosphere.

We sat outside, we were welcomed quickly and had very friendly service. We ordered the cold cuts to start, served bread with olive oil and balsamic. We ordered the Straccotto Alla Florentina (Florentine stew) it was AMAZING and reminded us of Ossobucco flavors. The Ravioli Guanciale was another favorite which was delicious! The 3rd meal was Maccharone with pork ragu. Everyone at our table thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The street was lively and entertaining as well.

Good food and a nice limoncello spritz! Would recommend this place if you want a nice vibe location and a pleasant evening out. Tip: make sure you do not get the table on the left right behind the hedge when coming up the stairs (corner). We were hardly serviced as the waiters did not pay any attention to our table. They constantly walked by only looking at the other tables. We had to ask to get the bill three times over 15 minutes.

We had dinner at La Mandragola and it was wonderful. The ambience was nice, servers were friendly and ready to advise and the food was good too. We had the florentine steak which we feel was the best out of all the florentine steaks we have eaten on our Tuscany road trip! The ribbon noodles with saffron sauce and Tuscan cinta sense pork ragout was yummy too! My husband and I were sharing everything and they kindly help to plate 1 portion into 2 plates when serving which was a nice touch.

This review is for the restaurant. Great service, with super experiences waiters. the outdoor seating is superb with great ventilation that feels fresh even in summer days. We had the octopus which was extremely well presented and cooked. The mixed salad had great ingredientes. The duck was par for the course, the lamb chos were good and the sirloin was the best of all the meats we had. For dessert we got the pineapple which was sweet and refreshing. The location is very nice but not that close to the town center.

Serene, quiet and peacefully beautiful in the morning. I would presume that the park will get busier as tourist groups visit the place during the day. This is understandable since the park is relatively small. I would recommend that the park is visited earlier in the morning so that the place is still quiet and peaceful.

Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a renowned white wine that has gained recognition for its quality, even earning a mention in Dante's Inferno. This crisp and citrusy wine adds to the allure of the town for white wine enthusiasts visiting Tuscany. Whether enjoying it at local restaurants, purchasing it from supermarkets for a villa retreat, or savoring it at scenic viewpoints around town, there are ample opportunities to experience this exquisite wine.
Amazing learning and sensory (smells and tasting) experience! Our guide was very knowledgeable taking us through the history of and historical references to the vernaccia grape, how Italian wine is standardized with DOCG, DOC, etc, an aromatics test, and finally a wine tasting with bites of food paired with it. In particular, if you know a bit about wine but would like to know more, this is a great experience.

I know it's a tourist place. I know that it can be disturbing. But if a guy asks a guy if his 3 year old boy can take a piss the answer should never be "You have to buy something". You can be a great winery but you can also be human at the same time.

Fantastic place. The wines were some of the best we've tasted. The sommeliers were very knowledgeable and friendly. The paired snacks were delicious too. There's a fantastic panoramic viewpoint also on the terrace.
Lui N — Google review
What a lovely location to imbibe a small glass of vino and I mean small. The view however was huge and hmm so was the cost of the wine. Sorry but 8 euros for the reds we tried, frankly, they are overcharging. They indicated they provide 110 ml but as far as I'm concerned they were short pours. As a former bar manager I know how much one should charge per glass to break even and also to make a profit, I did observe the server topped up a few customers without charge (they were white wine though)! I don't want to take away from our server, who was quite pleasant but... I recommend the view. I don't recommend buying any wine from this location. Just go and enjoy the view.

We even met the chef behind the beautiful dishes, and she was surprised we kept the pictures of all the food🤭 An absolute recommendation is their risotto that is on the menu since the nineties, but don’t forget to try the pasta with pear, pecorino saffron sauce🥹 A dessert we absolutely loved, but they do not make it here anymore: was the cheesecake(this one is seasoned based, we understood) and the chocolate namelaka! I included the pictures of these desserts. They also offer a great wine selection from their wine cellar. So if you are around, love Italian food, but want it more special, this is the place for you❤️

This wine store, D! Vineria enoteca, is a small square in the heart of San Gimignano, perfect for relaxing with a glass of Vernaccia or another Tuscan wine under an umbrella. The owner, Massimo Delli, is enthusiastic about recommending local wines to try, and may even give you a taste if you're lucky. The wine bar has outdoor seating and is wheelchair accessible.
A hidden gem in San Gimignano. Run by the most wonderful host. The wine and bubbly selection is great, and we had such a delicious, fresh, cold bubbly. Melon and ham platter was perfection. We added olives, dried tomatoes and bread. The perfect place for wine and light meal/ snacks! Don’t miss this one!!

Love this place and it's so relaxed with a great host. I recommend a wine tasting with an antipasti sharing board. Radiohead. Pink Floyd,Bowie, Deep Purple playing at a nice volume helps too. We happened to be there when a relative of Massimo called in , a guy he hadn't seen for 15 years with his wife of 5 years marriage that day. As it was our 42nd anniversary the next day we had something to celebrate together and it was one of those impromptu moments. Brilliant 👏

We loved this place! The music choice first caught our attention, and it didn’t disappoint. Cool atmosphere, a very welcoming host with great attention to clients, excellent wine, and a delicious bruschetta with pomodoro and basilico. Perfect spot to enjoy and relax

An excellent place for those who want to stop and grab a bite to eat. We ordered the meat and cheese platter, bruschetta with mascarpone and prosciutto, and wine. Everything was simply excellent, exceptionally generous, and very tasty! The staff was courteous and attentive. Highly recommended.

No pasta, no pizza – just wine, and maybe some great cheese and ham 😉 The perfect place to enjoy a wonderful evening with everything you need, far from the crowds. Truly authentic, with a charming owner who has great taste not only in wine and food, but also in music. Thanks again for the excellent bottle of white wine to take away! 😉

Restaurant
Ristorante San Martino 26 stands out among the restaurants in San Gimignano with its experimental approach to cuisine. Despite its traditional decor featuring brick archways, white tablecloths, and candelabras, the menu offers a unique dining experience. The restaurant is known for its outstanding service and well-informed staff who are passionate about the food and wine they serve.
The dinner was amazing. It is a Michelin experience, if you are looking for dinner to remember, this is definitely The place. Do not be afraid to try, it is worth it! I highly compliment the glasses, cutlery, plates, even a coffee cup is gorgeous.

While wandering through the charming streets of San Gimignano, I stumbled upon this restaurant and it turned out to be an absolute gem. From start to finish, the experience was outstanding. Every dish felt carefully thought out, both in flavor and presentation. The ingredients were clearly fresh and local, with each plate highlighting authentic Tuscan traditions while still offering a refined touch. The appetizers were balanced and full of character, the pasta was perfectly cooked and deeply flavorful, and the main course was rich without being overwhelming. Even the dessert was memorable — the kind of sweet finish that leaves a lasting impression. The service matched the quality of the food: attentive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they were serving. Combined with the cozy atmosphere and beautiful location, it created a dining experience that felt both special and welcoming. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting San Gimignano. Whether you’re a serious foodie or just looking for a truly memorable meal, this place is not to be missed. Attached some pictures of my favorite dishes!

We had dinner with my husband ordering 7 course vision menu. 3 hours for a dinner is a little bit too long but we loved the food. Specially the spaghetti with dove was heavenly rich creamy and tasty. All different bread and wonderful dessert are also really enjoyable. I think the chef is definitely try to make a one star Michelin. Very close after we tasted their food.

Dinner tonight at San Martino 26 was amazing! We did the tasting menu and my husband added the wine pairing as well. I had two glasses of wine for the dinner. Throughout the 13 courses from the amuse bouche to the desserts, the creativity, flavors, uniqueness, presentation and deliciousness just wow’d us. I wish I could describe each course to a T, but there were many components to each dish, too many to remember. We spent 3 1/2 hours savoring each and every course. This intimate 8-table ristorante is Michelin rated, and I think it certainly deserves a star. If you’re ever in San Gimignano, I highly recommend San Martino 26 in the historic center of town. The tasting menu will take you on a unique culinary journey, and you’ll enjoy the impeccable service which heightens the journey. Thank you Ardit for the most amazing experience and hospitality!

San Martino 26 is an unforgettable experience in San Gimignano. The food is outstanding — creative, beautifully presented, and full of Tuscan flavor with a modern twist. The tasting menu is a must-try, with each dish telling its own story and perfectly paired with local wines. The atmosphere is elegant yet cozy, and the staff make you feel truly cared for with their warmth and attention to detail. It’s the kind of place where every moment feels special, from the first welcome to the last sip of wine. If you’re visiting San Gimignano, don’t miss this gem. It’s not just a dinner, it’s a memory you’ll carry with you.

I had an amazing experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. Before every meal, the owner gave a short introduction that made the experience even more insightful and memorable. From start to finish, everything was excellent, and I’ll definitely be coming back.

The family who owns this estate has imbued it with love and devotion for many years, creating a magical atmosphere that welcomes all guests with care and attention to detail.
Guardastelle is an incredible bed and breakfast and winery. We had an exceptional time over just a 3-night stay and would highly recommend the place to anyone thinking of staying around the San Gimignano area--you won't regret it! The staff, especially Aurora, and part-owner Fausto are all wonderful hosts. We had an apartment which was very spacious and had all that we needed to make our own meals and make ourselves at home. The food that was served for breakfast and lunch was excellent, and the wine is very good as well! I look forward to the next time we get a chance to visit the area and seek out Guardastelle too!

An amazing agriturismo located just below San Gimignano in Tuscany. We have stayed here 8-9 times over the years and it seems to get better every visit. Beautiful rooms and apartments. Cooking classes, wine and olive oil tastings, breakfast and dinner options. Lovely pool and gardens. Amazing views of the Tuscan landscape and San Gimignano ( which is a short walk away up a quiet back road).

What can I say! This was our favorite place we stayed during our honeymoon, my only wish was that we stayed longer. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed by staff and were truly stunned by the gorgeous views. The rooms have a traditional feel with tasteful decor, and you can tell they have updated them as needed and keep their place super clean. We stayed in Teresa, and wow the view and the sunrise in the morning was picturesque!! The breakfast was delicious to start the day off. We also did participate in the full wine tour, which was lovely and informative. Lots of other wineries in the area and the town of San Gimignano was about a 20-25 minute walk.

Tentuta Guardastelle was our favorite place we stayed during our recent trip to Italy. The grounds, rooms, location, and food are all absolutely amazing. We enjoyed a welcome dinner and cooking class, both with the wonderful Chef Beppe. We had such a great time! The wine and olive oil produced at Guardastelle are also so wonderulf. THANK YOU all for a great time.

This is a beautiful piece of heaven, which we have now stayed 6 times. The location is amazing, a short 30 minute walk into San Gimi. Susanna and Fausto are wonderful hosts, the breakfast is authentic and the rooms are fabulous and we have stayed in most of them. The pool is a great place to sit back and enjoy a glass of their homemade wine.

One of the best places I've ever stayed. Beautiful property with a great pool. Short walk into San Gimignano and a short drive to Volterra and Siena. Great breakfast, the rooms were spacious and clean. We did the cooking class with Chef Beppe and really enjoyed that as well. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in Tuscany.

4 of us stopped in for a wine tasting only. This place is beautiful. I arranged the tasting with Aurora, who was incredibly helpful. We were taken care of by Guya (I don't know the spelling of her name), but she was so knowledgeable and helpful, that it was more of an event than just a tasting. Also, they gave us too much food and it was delicious! The sampling of each type of wine was truly enjoyable and we got to understand the differences in each and some of important considerations in the wine making process. By the way, the amount of wine in each glass was more of a large pour than a sample. So in addition to my recommendation to go here, you should also plan on being hungry and maybe having a designated driver!! Just visit.

Museums
The Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea Raffaele De Grada is an art museum that showcases a variety of contemporary and modern artworks. It houses a diverse collection of artifacts, including pottery from archaeological excavations, some of which have been reconstructed to demonstrate their original appearance. The museum offers an interesting visit with its impressive array of exhibits.
We had been in the nice museum this week for a short preview of the exhibition "all eyes on celebreties - ritratti di ken nahoum" It´s a small, fine Exhibition on the work of photographer Ken Nahoum at the San Gimignano Civic Museum. We were lucky to be able to view the expressive portraits of world-famous stars in advance while the exhibition was being set up. (Thx to Ken, who showed us his works before the official opening) A visit to the beautiful museum "Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea" and especially the exhibition is worthwhile. If you come to San Gimignano the closest parking to the museum is Parcheggio P3 Bagnaia Superiore.

An interesting place to visit with some great artefacts. Lots of pots from archaeological digs, some put back together to show what the original would have looked like. I spent an enjoyable 30 mins there and the apothecary. Then the modern art exhibition upstairs was also of interest but I’ve been to a lot better galleries of this type.

Fine dining restaurant
LINFA Ristorante in San Gimignano has gained a reputation as a top food destination, led by chef Vincenzo Martella. The restaurant aims to infuse vitality and energy into its cuisine, blending Italian flavors with influences from around the world. As the newest addition to Italy's Michelin-starred restaurants, LINFA offers tasting menus featuring dishes like onion soup with almonds and liquorice, and ravioli with pistachio, mussels, cheese and pepper.
We had the most wonderful evening at LINFA for our last night in San Gimignano. We went for the four course ‘pick and mix’ menu and the food was absolutely exceptional. Every course was beautifully presented and the flavours were perfectly balanced. The staff were fantastic - attentive, knowledgeable and very welcoming - explaining each course to us and even taking a photo of us to give to us at the end of the evening which we thought was a very thoughtful and unique touch. The restaurant itself is stunning - the design is beautiful and modern and colourful.
Stephanie H — Google review
My husband and I stayed in San Gimignano for one night and decided to book a reservation at LINFA. Let me start off by saying the service was incredible! The two females and male sommelier waiting on our table are a 10/10! They’re so polite, helpful, and passionate. We had fresh flowers waiting for us at our table to celebrate a birthday. They were attentive throughout the entire evening and spaced the courses perfectly. They even all walked to the door when we left to send us off with a bag of cookies and the flowers from our table. The food overall was good- there are plenty of pasta and meat options and different course options to choose from. I’m sure many other guests have a better palate for the type of food served, we just found a few of the options to not be worth the money. The aesthetic of the restaurant is gorgeous. LINFA offers a cozy and chic vibe with all of the little touches you can think of. Lastly, it is extremely gracious of the restaurant to allow children inside to dine however I do believe this affected our overall experience negatively. By no means do I believe it is the restaurants fault as they handled the children with grace but the table next to us had two young children who were up and down constantly throughout the meal, were loud, and bumped into the staff at least 3 times thought out the evening. Unfortunately we found it distracting and were hoping for a more intimate fine dining experience.

This is the only Michelin one star restaurant in town. The service was meticulous. The food was very interesting and chef tried hard to provide unique dishes. We ordered all three main courses that night the pigeon the duck and the fish plus some starters. We loved the pigeon most.

Linfa is an artistic experience from the moment that you walk in. Bright colors & works of art surround you, which prepare you for the meal that you are about to have. The staff perform an impeccable waltz of service that makes you feel comfortable, but it is never fussy or snobby as high end restaurants can sometimes feel. If you come here, please get the full tasting menu with wine pairings, as the sommelier is such a gem and truly adds to the food. If I had to choose, I think the pine nut sauce with Meagre may have be a life changing dish, but the pigeon was also masterfully & intricately prepared with the filet & leg on the side. Thank you Linfa for a night I will never forget and I hope you get a second star soon!

Parcheggio P3 Bagnaia Superiore

Parking lot
Parcheggio P3 Bagnaia Superiore is a convenient parking option located close to the city center with over 200 spaces available. It costs 2.50 for the first hour and 2 per hour after that, with a maximum of 15 a day. The parking area felt safe and secure, although it may be tight for larger vehicles due to some cars taking up multiple spaces. Instructions in English are available, and payment can be made at the machine using cash or card.
There are over 200 spaces in the car park which is a short walk to the centre, and there is a sign to confirm how many spaces are left.  However we saw several cars taking up 2 spaces so it might be tight if you have a large car.  You get a ticket at the entrance and pay at the machine before going back to the car and use the ticket to exit.   It accepts cash and card.   We were there for 3hrs 45 mins and paid €9.  There are instructions in English.   The car park felt safe and we had no issues.
Leanne M — Google review
The parking area in San Gimignano is divided into three sections or terraces. Based on my experience, I highly recommend heading straight to the third (lower) section, where you’ll find plenty of spaces with decent width – suitable even for larger vehicles. The other parts are much more limited, with narrow spots that are really not ideal for big cars. If you want to avoid tricky parking maneuvers, the third terrace is definitely your best bet.
Martin V — Google review
Better choice to find a parking space when P1 and 2 are full. The walk into town is only 5 minutes and 10 to the Dumo square.
Paul A — Google review
Worked fine until the gate only partially opened and thought we exited. Was locked inside for over 15 minutes. We had to have another car get a new ticket for us, then pay a second time. It was a disaster and we had to pay 15 euro extra, when our original ticket was only 7... And yes we have travelled and used paid parking spots before.
Drew S — Google review
It was busy but we were able to find a space on a lower tier. Close to the centre (a few minutes walk). Keep hold of the ticket you get on entry and pay on exit. If using card payment, you can pay at the barrier.
Andy C — Google review

Azienda Agricola Palagetto is a charming winery in the Tuscan countryside, boasting a rich heritage spanning three generations. Despite the historical changes in Italy, this winery has preserved its deep-rooted traditions. Visitors can indulge in affordable wine tastings and explore the exquisite range of wines. While some find their overall wine selection not as impressive as other local wineries, their rose stands out.
We went to a wine tasting. The lady was very kind and professional. She told us about each wine, which allowed us to delve deeper into the topic of Tuscan wines. Definitely worth a visit, with very reasonable prices.
Magdalena Z — Google review
Neat place off the beaten path. Their wine is not as good as most places in the area, but strangely their rosé is the one that really stood out. When our server was with was us, she was very knowledgeable and friendly. However, the only sure way to get service at some points is to wander around to find the group of servers hanging out chatting since they forgot about you. I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm talking about waiting 20+ minutes just to close out and buy wine. I wouldn't put this place #1 on my list with so many other great wineries in the area and with the subpar service, but it's worth a stop if you make a reservation and catch staff on a good day probably. While the wine didn't blow me away, the prices are pretty good. So if you're looking to buy some drinkable wine at a decent price, you could do worse.
Eric P — Google review
So nice enough place, pretty close to San Gimignano. Small, family owned and I think somewhat unique, as the daughter is running her own label (Arianna) out of there also. They do olive oil tastings and they harvest honey also. The vernaccia was good and the sottobosca was notable. We were not able to get the tour as it was sold out, but we did the tasting. I think the tour was sold out as they had two very large groups come in close to one another. As a result, we were a bit of an afterthought. I understand the situation, but probably not the best day to visit them. People were very friendly, I give them that, and the charcuterie they served with the tasting was good. The fennel salami was actually the star of the whole thing! It was quite loud due the big groups, so difficult to hear, and they were apologetic, so give them that. If you are around the area and want to swing in, I would not steer you away, it is good enough place. Note the spumanti was good, a nice table wine sipper with friends I think. One thing I will say is that is quite affordable.

Charming, family owned winery. The tour was short but interesting and the tasting was very nice. For 12 euros we got 4 different wines and many local delicacies (honey, cheese, olive tapenade). Our guide was welcoming and knowledgeable. We would definitely recommend to anyone staying in the area.

Nature preserve
The Riserva Naturale di Castelvecchio, located near San Gimignano in the province of Siena, offers a rich variety of vegetation including oaks, beeches, and Mediterranean scrub. The area is home to diverse wildlife, with the peregrine falcon thriving in its rocky walls. Visitors can explore a medieval castle and enjoy a scenic walk through the forest leading to an ancient hoist bridge.
One of the best archeological sites I have ever visited. Not because of historical value or its size, but because there are no tourists in here. There is no one actually! The site is not very easy to access (20-min walk on the sloppy ground) but is definitely worth the effort. The experience is magical: we were alone on the site that counts several buildings and remains of a temple. What a shame that the site is abandoned!

Nice walk but not much to see. The nearby panoramatic view was hard to reach because of thick bushes. What more just 50 m befor the castle was barrier saying it's private property.

While reading the reviews, I laugh 😂 and laugh 😆 and laugh 🤭, they complain that there is no much to see. For those who say that, here is what I think of that: You see as much as you allow your mind to see. Just set yourself in the right context. If you come here you, you need to put your mind back centuries back and imagine how this people lived here and what they were trying to accomplish. First time here, I did not plan for it, I simply went out for an easy run, which did not turn that easy with all the hills and also it was raining. I was amazed with this place. It was only me and the nature. I felt like I was the only human being in miles. I felt that I was running in a wild place and when I reached to the top of the hill and found this old buildings, I realized that this place was priceless. It will be very weird to find a place with so much history in its wildest version, with no humans messing around here. I’m grateful to still be able to move around and explore places like this. If you come here , respect the place and be grateful that you are standing in front of centuries of history. Who knows , maybe you will be the last one to see this place. Peace and love everybody. Soon I will be sharing my pics and recap from my morning run. Follow me in Instagram axeliux1

Beautiful place to hike. Directions are a little bit confusing, and we never made it to the actual castle.
Thomas A — Google review
Nice place but not the best for views. Mostly good for a hike or moderate walk. There's a map in the park about what route to take but once on the trail it becomes very confusing. At one junction the red arrows for example pointed in seperate directions. We actually got lost following the arrows and came to a dead end before resorting to creating out own path through the forest which was still kind of fun. Also, you cant drive through the centre areas unless you have a resident permit.

It is a medieval castle near San Gimignano and not advised. If you love nature, history and you have the chance plan to. Is it it. After a nice walk in the forest then you arrive to a hoist bridge. Two ancient towers still there as the church. Only the roof is missing. All around walls of old houses with stairs and ancient grain mill wheels. If you wish to make a picnic there, please respect this wonderful place and take the garbage back with you in order to keep it as beautiful as it is.

Tuscan restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of San Gimignano, Ristorante Il Pino is a culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. This family-run establishment has been delighting guests for over a century with its authentic Italian cuisine. The restaurant offers a delightful 35 Euro tasting menu for lunch, featuring an array of traditional dishes such as local ribollita soup, pappardelle with wild boar, and succulent tagliata.
We found this place through the recommendation of the hotel concierge. The premise is an old house (ok, almost all houses in the ancient city of S. Gimignano are old...) in the alley right inside of the city wall. We have been there two times. At the first visit, we shared the mixed bruschetta as antipasti, then my husband had the stozzapretti with pigeon meat ragu, and I the tagliata classic as main course. The food was simple but good - my husband, as a devoted pigeon fan, liked his noodle. I was not very hungry (after a snack plate in the wine bar right beforehand), but found the tagliata a nice one. Then we noticed the two-person dinner set on the menu and decided to have another try on the next day. Normally in the region the famous biscetta florentina (T-bone steak) are sold by weight. And this set dinner offered antipasti (bruschetta), biscetta, white beans, a bottle of water and espresso with fixed price, which we found interesting. And for this set the coperto ("table charges") is included. The biscetta had some 600 g meat, which we considered a good portion for two. It looked a bit rare but not too bloody (the front part was like medium in fact). And it tasted well. The white bean with olive oil was fundamental, but tasted fine to me (as non-white bean fan). And finally we ate up almost everything. The young and energetic service staff were very friendly; the menu were bilingual with the origin of ingredients well explained. The atmosphere was pleasant and enjoyable.

7 of us arrived at lunch and they were able to accommodate us at an outside table. Nice menu with good options plus knowledgeable help with wines. We all found something we wanted and service was efficient but not rushed. Quiet setting on small side street near one of city gates. Good recommendation from our city walk guide.

We made a roundtrip from south Tirol to Rome and this restaurant in the beautiful San Gimignano was the best we‘ve experienced in our whole trip! We‘ve visited it 3 times in total, because the food was every time amazing and we also managed to taste a local speciality called „Arrosto“ which was pre-ordered by a group of locals days before. We‘ve seen what they are eating and asked if we could also try it - they gave us a portion for a really small money. We also ate a amazing 3 course menu including a T-bone steak (see the pictures) for 25€ per person in total. Also the Wine (San Gimingnano Cabernet Sauvignon) for 30€ the bottle was really amazing and probably the best wine I’ve had in my entire life. Later we found out that the bottle is priced 26,90€ in the shop. The waiters are also very friendly and competent and we really felt like we are part of their family and „eating at home“! To us the best experience of our entire holiday! Thank you very much Il Pino! ❤️

One of the best restaurants in Tuscany. A must visit during your visit here. Very friendly and kind personnel. Also a rich menu with local wines. Thank you for this experience.
Maria M — Google review
I recently dined at Il Pino, a place that left quite an impression—though not for the reasons one might hope. The food itself was satisfactory, but the atmosphere was overshadowed by the bizarre behavior of the owner, who seemed more interested in performing antics than running a restaurant. As we were seated and began our meal, we couldn't help but notice the owner hanging from the balcony by one arm, a sight that was both alarming and distracting. He remained there throughout our entire dining experience, grunting and snuffling in a way that was impossible to ignore. His constant, unsettling presence made it difficult to enjoy the food or the company. While the service was adequate, and the dishes were reasonably well-prepared, the overall experience was marred by the owner's antics. Dining out should be about enjoying good food and a pleasant atmosphere, but at Il Pino, the wild behavior of the owner took center stage in the worst possible way. If you’re looking for a quiet, enjoyable meal, this might not be the place for you. But if you’re in the mood for something truly out of the ordinary—though not necessarily in a good way—you might find Il Pino worth a visit. Personally, I found the experience off-putting and unlikely to return.

Italian restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of San Gimignano, Il Ceppo Toscano is a delightful traditional Italian restaurant that captures the essence of Tuscan cuisine. Known for its inviting stone dining room, this hidden gem specializes in classic dishes like the renowned Florentine steak, or bistecca alla Fiorentina. This impressive cut of beef, often sourced from local breeds such as Chianina or Maremmana, is grilled to perfection over a wood fire, ensuring an unforgettable culinary experience.
We wanted to try another restaurant voted trip advisor best of the best across the Piazzetta Madonna but it was closed. Located in San Gimignano, this restaurant is located at the end of the slope. This restaurant is cute, it has a no Pasta, only meat sign on the door facing outside customer. The highlight was not the Florentine steak but the tartare. I missed the chance to take a video when the waiter lifted the cover filled with smoke giving the flavour. The duck was tender and tasted great. The deer was a bit tough and need to mix with the jam for further flavour.

We eat an angus wagyu. The steak was delicious and perfecly cooked, medium rare. Andrea make a good job! He recommend us very good wines by glass, so we could try more different white and red wines. The service was also excellent! All together, we had a fantastic dinner with a very friendly service and perfect steak. Thank you Andrea, good job!

The restaurant its very nice and cozy the service is very good and polite but somehow unprofessional and you’ll see further down what I mean, the food is very good also. I have to give 3stars though because I found a plastic film in my plate and when I mentioned that to the waiter told me that it’s nothing just a pice of wrap of the meat when they prepared it, like its normal to happen….!!! No apologies nothing…!! Second, I don’t think is appropriate for a restaurant to eat on a bare table without tablecloth not even a table mat… And last the risotto although delicious I found it overpriced for what it was at 22€.

To my fellow carnivores and fine dining enthusiasts, prepare your taste buds for a pilgrimage! I walked in here expecting a nice dinner, but what I got was a religious experience. I never met the chef, but I tasted their talent and dedication in every single bite. The dishes weren't just food; they were a love letter from the kitchen to my plate. Seriously, the meat was so good I started to wonder if the chef was secretly in a long-term, committed relationship with it. Highly recommend it—it's the kind of place where meat isn't just a meal, it's a work of art!

It is a restaurant worth visit for sure when you come to San Gimignano! We try the cooking farmyard duck hanging with its stuffing, beef steak Florentine of the selection “Il Ceppo” and gratin potatoes with Parmesan cheese. All were perfectly cooked and very tasty!

Restaurant
Lo Spuntino, which translates to "the snack," is a beloved spot in San Gimignano known for its delicious pizza slices available for both dine-in and takeout. This charming eatery also serves a variety of pasta dishes, bruschetta, and filled rolls—perfect for those planning a picnic. The inviting ambiance features traditional Tuscan stonework, making it an enjoyable place to savor your meal indoors or outdoors.
I had a pizza because I was bored of all the pici. In hingsight I think it wasn't the greatest choice. The dessert was great tho. Also they gave us the table on the street in front of the menu. I spent 10 minutes with strangers looking over my head. I could feel their stares burning my ear...

The personal was vey useful, asked if everything was alright. The ratings are obviously for pizza. I tried the soup but it wasn’t so special. My husband was eaten the pasta but was a small size. For a starter 14€ it was too much. If you take the daily menu you can’t share with someone BIG MINUS. The wine wasn’t the famous one. We had also to pay extra for the 🔪 🥄 2€/person. 39€ for all these I mean it’s a big price for what we received

It was a pleasure to experience such great service during my visit. The food was delightful, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of my meal. This was my first time at jabalí, and it certainly exceeded my expectations. I will gladly recommend this place to my friends and family for a wonderful dining experience. I look forward to visiting again soon.

Lovely little restaurant with the most polite and serviceminded staff you could ask for, and the food is as astonishing as it can be. The vibe in the tiny restaurant fits the whole scenery of San Gimignano perfectly. Great food, great experience and a lovely taste of Italy.

Very friendly and attentive staff! The pizza was very delicious, only the size of the pasta was a bit too small. Other than that we had a good experience there and would most likely return :)

Nice, not extra, food ok, but something in the taste are missing. People nice and kind. Prices ok.
Jakub P — Google review
Sadly, our experience was not good at all. To us, the restaurant seemed very much like a generic tourist trap. We took the bruschetta with tomato and garlic as a starter, the bread was very dry, hard and stale, the tomato on top was nothing special, we couldn't barely taste any garlic. For the main course we had the truffle pasta, and while the price was somewhat lower than average in S. Gimingnano, the quality was as well. The pasta was obviously not freshly made, it tasted like standard barilla pasta from the supermarket which have not been boiled long enough, and the truffle-sauce also tasted, like there were no fresh truffles in it. On top of that there were no fresh truffle slices or anything, as you can see on the photo. With all the award- and recommendation-stickers in front of the store it really seemed like a tourist-scam in hindsight. We payed 56€ for two people, which was way too pricey for the bad quality of the food. No recommendation from me!

Great low key spot. Ribollita was delicious. Bruschetta simple and fresh. My husband had the papardelle with wild boar and it tasted like a great homemade meal. Owners were friendly and welcoming. Grazie!

Tuscan restaurant
Ristorante da Pode is a charming restaurant that has been renovated in a rustic style, offering stunning views of the seasonal landscape. Guests have praised the fast and friendly service, with special mention of accommodating kids and creating kid-friendly meals. The pasta dishes are highly recommended, especially the ravioli and tagliatelle. The location near San Gimignano adds to its appeal.
If you’re on your way to San Gimignano and looking for a great place to eat, I highly recommend this restaurant. The location is excellent, with convenient parking right by the entrance, and the food is simply outstanding. This was, without a doubt, the best dining experience of my trip! Every dish was prepared with great care and at the highest level. The ravioli were perfect, the gnocchi was delicious, and the desserts were amazing. I’m sure the rest of the menu is just as fantastic. If you’re arriving in San Gimignano in the evening, don’t bother searching for a restaurant in town – you won’t find a better one than this!

The food at the restaurant is just outstanding. We had the wild boar pasta and the entrecote with truffle sauce and they were amazing. The wine is homemade by the owners and it's delicious. The desserts are really nice as well (and they go well together with the dessert wine). The waiters are kind and the atmosphere in the restaurant is really cozy.

Michelin recommended years after years and lives up to their acclaim. Delicious options of Tuscan classics and lovely service.
Ting L — Google review
I went to this restaurant because it was in the Michelin guide. I would NOT go there again. It did not meet my expectations. The following things: First of all the staff was fine, but not very outstanding or super nice compared to other places. They were in a hurry all the time. I arrived 5 min earlier than my reservation at 1900, the guy told me to wait outside ?? There was literally no one in the restaurant. The food is fine but not outstanding. 15 euros for simple Melon with parmaham.. crazy. I had the gnocchi with truffle but the truffle was from very bad quality and did not taste like real good truffle. (also 23 euros). Also had the tiramisu but was not the best i ever had. It was very basic. Also they put the airconditioning on 27 degrees?? It took the waiter about half an hour to notice that. Once noticed they put it back to 23 degrees. There are way better restaurants in Tuscany, especially for the price you pay. This restaurant is just very into tourists.

I was there last summer with my family and the service was absolutely fantastic. The food was delicious. nice, cheerful and super professional. We came here back in 2021/2022 and we remember the good fiorentina! So this time we pass and we surely have to come again. 👍👍👍

This restaurant was recommended by people at the villa we are staying at. The service was very good. The atmosphere is ok, but not particularly high-end or romantic. The food was average, which was disappointing, considering most of the food we have had on our 4 trips to Italy have been nothing short of spectacular. My wife's homemade marinara sauce is an order of magnitude better than the vegetarian red sauce we had here. But my wife is a spectacular cook. Everyone who has ever been to our home for dinner is anxiously awaiting another invitation. I have been told this numerous times. So... not a terrific experience, but it is, after all, only one meal out of thousands.
