Goodwood Motor Circuit, nestled at the foot of the Sussex Downs, is a classic circuit that has been lovingly restored to its original form. It hosts motoring events like the Festival of Speed and Glorious Revival for vintage cars. The venue combines nostalgia from the golden era of motorsport with modern technology. Additionally, it is located near various attractions such as Goodwood Estate, Chichester Cathedral, West Wittering Beach, and more.
Went to the Festival of speed on Sunday and it really didn't disappoint. The event was huge with something for every type of car enthusiast from vintage to future concept cars on display. The red arrows put on a cracking display and the atmosphere was filled with race fuel and tyre smoke. Awesome!

Goodwood revival, great great time despite the rain. Family disability transport from the muddy car park was unexpected and very welcome, thank you. Facilities great and well thought out, the whole theming is wonderful and thanks to visitors wearing period dress you really do feel like your in the 50s or 60s at times. A wonderful time had.
David R — Google review
We were fortunate to attend the Festival of Speed via a raffle win from my company. Went without much research. I got 2 tickets and kids under 12 are free so ended up having a family day out. I cannot describe how awesome it was! There's so much to see, do, shop and 1 day was not enough! The rally racing was awesome! Seeing all the classics, supercars and formula 1 cars speeding up the hill was so good. The smell of gasoline, burned rubber from the skidding and the noise, so hard to describe. We had kids (11 to 5), there were water stations and toilets everywhere. They also had games with prizes for kids. Highly recommended - would also recommend noise blocking headsets for the younger group.... It is very loud! As soon as we finished, I booked myself for the ticket release for next year again.
Haroon R — Google review
Excellent track and aerodrome, we attended for the Greenpower International Finals 2025 where 80+ self-built electric cars, made by schools and clubs, were racing. The track is large, views of the main straight and two corners are available but you can't walk the full track. The paddocks are accessible and facilities are decent, though the main cafe can be slow to serve food when its busy (though the food is good quality). Having the aerodrome running while the race was happening added a great layer to the experience, showcasing engineering innovations with a spitfire flying overhead. Great day.
Ross B — Google review
Wow. Nothing like this anywhere on earth. The festival of speed is the most amazing car event on the planet. Did not expect the air show from the RAF Red Arrows and great day time fireworks. No where else can you see every F1 team, dozens of historic F1 cars, super cars, bikes and everything in between in competition on the famous hill climb.

My wife and I had a wonderful time here with Paul Annie who are members of the Ferrari owners club. Quality service. Very well catered for and it looks like everyone had a great time. Prices as expected for Goodwood. DWI.

A huge thank you to Goodwood Motor Circuit for looking after us and our friends yesterday. We came down to do the Performance Hot Laps and had an absolutely fantastic time from the moment we arrived! The lady who greeted us (sorry we didn’t get your name) was superb, all smiles and kindness toward our group, engaging and enthusiastic. Ray the racing driver was brilliant, his manor put us at ease whilst his driving skills ensured the car was on the limit from the moment we left the pit lane and the fun didn’t ease up for three laps! So a huge thank you to Goodwood Motor Circuit and to those in charge your team did you proud and should be commended! We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the team were a large part of that, we would highly recommend the experience and will be back for more!

Goodwood House is a magnificent 17th-century stately home located in Sussex that boasts an impressive collection of fine art. Open from March to October, the house offers guided tours that provide insights into the rich history of the family of The Duke and Duchess of Richmond.
Went this year to the Festival of Speed. People were friendly and helpful, toilets were clean, food and drink were decently cheap considering the event. The overall experience was amazing. Defo going again

Superb experience on special day due to F1’’s 75th anniversary. Great to see old F1 cars. Engine noise was music!! Too much to walk around but worth it. Foods available. Even gluten free and veggie, catered for all types of people. Saw legendary Prost driving his 1988 car. See the video.

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour which is free for Historic Houses members. We were put in a group of about 12 and our guide was informative and interesting, with a sense of humour. The signage both to the car park and then to the house could be better.

Festival of Speed is a must do event for all petrol heads Too much to see in one day. Will definitely be back for more next year
Dave P — Google review
Festival of speed. 1st ti.e visit and didn't know what to expect. Public car parking you need to be onsite from around 06.15 to get a good space and then join the shorter queue. Any later and you will be queuing in the car park. Gets busy as expected. Great watching the bikes, cars and trucks go up the hill. Made it to the top for the rally stage. Off road truck were awesome and wa the F1 and super car padocks. Great to have a large amount of stalls to walk round, including manufacturers stands with various models you can sit in. We walked about 10 miles on the Saturday. Dust was a big issue as it had been so dry. Food was expensive as you would expect from a large event with captive audience. £25 for a 10" pizza, small piece of garlic bread and a can of drink or £8.50 for 2 scoops of ice cream.
David L — Google review
Each year, Festival of Speeds held here is amazing. This year, we had classical Rolls Royce and GMA moment here. The House itself only opens to VIPs who has an invitation. I wish I could be invited some day :)

Chichester Festival Theatre is a modern hexagonal theater that can accommodate 1200 audience members and hosts an annual festival. Situated in the vibrant city of Chichester, it is known for its exceptional productions and community engagement. The theater's bold thrust stage design makes it one of England's most remarkable playhouses. Its annual summer festival season runs from April to October, attracting over 200,000 attendees and often leading to West End transfers.
We saw the last performance of Top Hat on Saturday and what an amazing performance it was too! Totally faultless and witty to the end. Everything dance was so very precise. Outstanding! Thank you. Chichester is my family home and I have been coming to the theatre since a young girl. Wonderful theatre!
LoriB — Google review
A diverse range of shows on offer here, which I would think will appeal to a wide range of people. Tidy modern interiors and a good view of the stage (even from the relatively cheap seats) give a more intimate feel to the performances than you might otherwise expect. Plentiful parking in the adjacent Northgate Car Park.
Mark D — Google review
This theatre is nothing short of fantastic. I’m a regular user of their Prologue tickets for 16-30yr olds, so I have experienced this theatre many times. The seating in the stalls and circle gives an amazing view no matter where you sit. The foyer area is a lovely place to be, and the shows they put on here never fail to be of the highest quality. This is my favourite theatre I’ve been to, and I don’t think it’s even possible to leave disappointed with your experience!
Henry R — Google review
Modern theatre in Chichester. Nice to go through. Easy access and for disabled people too. Could do with more toilets. Car park nearby but requires payment. Show at the time was "Top hat".

Fabulous show at The Minerva Theatre last night. The Choir. Awesome Theatre show, amazing actors, fabulous voices and great storyline. Staff at the Theatre are welcoming, friendly and helpful. The show was stopped partway through, due to a medical episode by an audience member. The staff and Choir actors handled everything professionally and with care and consideration. We wish the lady a speedy recovery. Overall a fabulous Theatre and I'll be back again as always. ☆☆☆☆☆

Wonderful evening with miriam and friends. All theatre staff helpful and friendly. Thank you. I return as often as i can, very convenient and lovely theatre.

Lovely Theatre. The production of Top Hat could have been better. The choreography was not really sophisticated enough for this style of musical. Some of the costumes did not seem to fit the performers well. The set and music were very good. Singing was adequate. I have to say that the audience loved it.
Madeleine S — Google review
Plenty of parking in nearby carpark, lovely staff, clean facilities and a lovely theatre. We drove all the way from West London to see Lord of the Flies after we had such a good experience watching The Sound of Music. Easily one of my favourite theatres. There's not really any bad seats in the place. Incredible views from all over

Priory Park

Park
Located in the northeastern part of Chichester, Priory Park is a public park with lush greenery, a play area, and a bowls lawn. The park has an interesting history as it was once home to a monastery and even housed a castle. Recently, three well-preserved Roman Houses were discovered beneath the park. While dogs are not allowed, children can enjoy the play area, aviary, and cafe.
Is a medium sized park, but not much to do. There is a small playground, a cricket pitch & a small reflection garden with benches. Is part of the Chichester City Walls walk, which I'd recommend
Jonathan H — Google review
A 13 century gate way under the field near the bowling green. This park is packed with history definitely worth a visit. There’s also cricket during the summer so a little gem in the centre of Chichester.
Pete — Google review
Priory Park in Chichester is a truly beautiful green space, full of character and charm. The park is steeped in history, surrounded by ancient Roman walls and overlooked by the impressive Guildhall, which makes it feel special compared to many other public parks. Walking through the grounds, you’re met with wide open lawns, colourful flower beds in the warmer months, and plenty of mature trees that provide shade and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s a place that feels perfect for a gentle stroll, a picnic with friends, or simply sitting back and taking in the surroundings. The park is also well maintained, with paths that are easy to navigate and facilities that make it welcoming for families, couples, and visitors of all ages. There are tennis courts and a children’s play area, so there’s something for everyone, whether you want to relax or get a bit more active. The central location means it’s easy to stop by when exploring Chichester, and it’s an ideal spot to take a break from the bustle of the city centre. The only slight downside is the number of “no dogs” signs scattered around the park. While it keeps the lawns clean and family-friendly, it does mean dog walkers miss out on enjoying this lovely space with their pets. Overall, though, Priory Park is a gem in Chichester — pretty, peaceful, and worth a visit for anyone looking to enjoy a slice of nature in the heart of the city.

Very nice place , great architecture lovely people, bit pricey but everything is nowadays 😆 recommend a visit. Plenty of pubs to relax in , many places to eat in or out ,very family friendly, just be mindful of the odd idiot 🙄
Claire R — Google review
Beautiful park with cricket ground. It id's having surrounded the city walk wall for a gorgeous city view. Cafe and restrooms are available.
Sangita S — Google review
This park used to have a real purpose back in the day of the ‘Real & Jazz Festival’ then with the officious local residents preferring peace and quiet and relatively boring existences it now only has the ‘Fenwicks’ cafe to offer. So if you prefer white bread, undressed Salads, pale and greasy bacon, watery teas and coffee as opposed to Blondie, James Brown, The Human League, washed down with plenty of the best beverages money can buy then this is the place for you. 🎼Take it to the Bridge🎼😎💐🍻☕️
Simon C — Google review
Nice spacious park surrounded by restored Roman walls.
Philip H — Google review
An oasis of calm and peace. There's lots of history here, the park is partly surrounded by Roman Wall and has Norman remains from a motte and bailey. There a nice coffee shop with outside space to sit and enjoy the views across the park.

Pub
The Dolphin & Anchor - JD Wetherspoon is a charming pub located in Chichester, a city with significant Roman history. The area boasts remnants of Roman baths and military structures, showcasing its historical significance. Additionally, the Novium museum was established to preserve these ancient baths. Meanwhile, The Anchor Inn is a picturesque country pub situated along the River Ouse in rural Sussex.
One of the best Spoons that I have been to. Pleasant, clean interior, friendly staff, a great selection of beers, as always, and a lovely view of the cathedral from the outside seating area at the front. Special mention for the young man behind the bar who was super efficient, welcoming and actually knew how to prepare a perfect ice bucket for our wine. i.e. with water in and not just rammed with ice. Give that man a medal. Would love to return.
Richard W — Google review
Really nice place for a drink or food just located in front of cathedral. Good staff and quick service via app. Place was tidy and tables were clean, not like other spoons. Most of full with students because free wifi. Plenty of seatings inside and outdoor. Had nice time.
Win T — Google review
My wife and I were staying in the TraveLodge around the corner from this great pub, and we stumbled upon it by chance; what a find! On our first evening we just went in for a drink and were staggered by value for money, the friendliness of the young staff and the pleasant atmosphere with folk of all ages there. Indeed, we liked it so much that we went there for breakfast the next morning, and then again for our dinner that evening! The food was really very, very good, as were the drinks and, as I have said already, the value for money was just amazing! OK, let's be truthful here and say what it is, so, so much cheaper compared to other pubs! Should we ever return to Chichester we will certainly rack up here!
Nick — Google review
Nice Spoons. Studenty later in the week in the evenings but they seem to be a happy bunch. Staff always nice and, on a dry day, treat yourself to an outdoor seat - right opposite the cathedral.
London W — Google review
It was so clean and the staff were lovely l didn't know it was a Wetherspoons until l paid, so clean and welcoming than most l have been in
Marilyn B — Google review
Food is what you’d expect from a spoon but we had not one but TWO instances of staff being INCREDIBLY rude. We went to go get a slightly bigger table and we asked a waitress if we could potentially take a table she was stood next to and she told us not to bother because she hadn’t cleared it and it will take her ages, when we said we didn’t mind she snapped ‘can’t you see how much I have to do’. So we abandoned that mission and the second instance was a waitress standing on my friends foot without a second glance, my friend was wearing Docs, luckily she wasn’t injured but an apology would have been nice! We understand you’re busy but please do better with your customer service <3
Daisy S — Google review
Great place, always busy but always tables available. Friendly service using the app and at the bar. We had food 2 days in a row and it was tasty and filling. Of course the prices were fantastic.

Chichester Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity, is a Norman edifice located in Chichester. It offers Church of England services and features a stunning Marc Chagall window. The cathedral is renowned for its grand scale, with local lore suggesting that all 23,000 citizens of Chichester could fit within its walls simultaneously. Visitors can enjoy free guided tours and explore the on-site cafe and gift shop.
Beautiful and interesting! Very friendly staff and one of the less Cathedrals were you don't have to pay exorbitant entry prices. Donations are welcomed, totally fair!!!

Chichester Cathedral – Timeless and Tranquil Chichester Cathedral is a stunning blend of Norman and Gothic architecture, with soaring arches, intricate stonework, and a peaceful atmosphere that invites reflection. Entry is free, though donations are welcome, and the space feels both sacred and accessible. Highlights include the Marc Chagall stained glass window, Roman mosaics beneath the floor, and the tomb that inspired Philip Larkin’s poem An Arundel Tomb. The free-standing medieval bell tower is a rare feature, and the guided tours are well worth joining for deeper insight. Whether you're drawn by history, art, or quiet contemplation, it’s a beautiful stop in the heart of the city — dignified, welcoming, and full of quiet surprises.

Wonderful gothic style cathedral. Many modern pieces are to be found inside from the last century which allows for a good balance of new and old. Entrance is free but a donation is suggested plus you can also purchase a range of gifts from the Cathedral shop.
Rob F — Google review
Beautiful piece of architecture. It's dog friendly, and entrance is free unless you want to donate towards the cathedral upkeep. Cannot visit Chichester and miss this gem.
Gr3at W — Google review
I've visited the Cathedral for Choral services over the years, but today I had the opportunity to just wander around at my own pace and actually notice things I hadn't noticed before. Although not a large Cathedral, Chichester is still impressive. Highlights include historic artwork and tapestries and Marc Chagall's stained glass window. There is a section of flooring showing Roman mosaics. The bell tower stands separately to the Cathedral, which I think may be unique The grounds are beautiful and there is a stall with cameras monitoring the progress of the resident falcons and their chicks.
Debbie M — Google review
Beautiful cathedral with stunning architecture. Friendly and welcoming staff.
Alli S — Google review
Simply magnificent. The building stands majestically in the centre of the town. Absolutely dominating the landscape. We felt drawn in whilst not being regular church goers this was akin to an evangelical experience. All my senses were heightened and I felt there was a higher spirit guiding me. I came out a changed man and will spend more time doing my charitable volunteering and supporting needy causes. Peace be with you.

Nestled in the charming Buttermarket area, Bill's Chichester Restaurant is a delightful spot that captures the essence of contemporary European dining. With its eclectic and cozy ambiance, it feels like a home away from home. The restaurant serves an array of menus throughout the day, including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner.
Top tier breakfast, much bigger than we were expecting for the price. The team were lovely, friendly good vibes and super helpful, even brought over replacement icy water when ours ran low, very attentive. Sad I didn’t get their names for the review but thank you so much to the Monday 22nd morning team! Had never been to Bills before so this was an amazing first impression and we will have to do breakfast in a Bills again! Full all day after the absolute feast we had and I think it was about £14 each.

Really good location in the centre of Chichester North Street. I had the traditional breakfast, which was well cooked with proper butcher sausage. Price was very reasonable for the location and quality of the food.

Excellent place to eat in Chichester. It was recommended to me and overall didn't disappoint. I had the share platter with dip, chorizo, bread, dumplings, pickles etc. Very filling and tasty. I then had the Bills flowerpot dessert but found it a bit disappointing. It looks great, but there was too much chocolate soil which tasted like Oreo cookies so not what I was expecting. The filling hardly tasted of passionfruit to me and in the end I could only eat about half the dessert. Glass of wine was good and service was friendly and attentive.

The Duke & Rye is a fantastic pub in the heart of Chichester. It has an amazing atmosphere and great food, making it one of the most popular places to visit in the city.
We attended the Duke for a private party. It's an amazing pub set in a church. The decor is great, loads of seating and a great choice of drinks 👌. Located opposite Chichester Cathedral.

Mind blowing venue which i wasn’t aspecting. Very impressive architecture and decor because it’s church converted in bar. Stained glass windows awesome and ceiling too. The bar guy was friendly and happy to help kinda person so do great service. Happily recommend to anyone who wanna have great time in very pleasant atmospheric place.

Venue dazzled us - great food, great vibes, and a setting that practically begs for a return visit. Only hiccup: the kebab meat had a dramatic flair for overcooking. We forgive it. Just this once.
James O — Google review
The Duke and Rye is a fantastic pub with a really unique charm. The layout and atmosphere are amazing, especially considering it was formerly a church. The large space makes it feel grand, and the interior looks incredible — really adds to the overall vibe. Drinks are reasonably priced, too. The only reason I’ve given 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the state of the toilets. Unfortunately, the smell tends to drift into the pub, and they could definitely be cleaner.
Emma W — Google review
Dropped by The Duke for drinks and was seriously impressed - not just by the drinks, but by the stunning building itself. This place has real character and charm! Didn’t try the food this time, but the service was great and the vibe was spot on.

Very Dog Firendly, Nice artcheture, pleasant food selection, with an okay price. Unfortunately, when we visited on a week day lunchtime, ourselves and other customers had a 20-30 minute wait on food with no warning or explanation. There were only 8 customers in the entire building. One customer complained as they had ordered food 10 minutes before we had come in and we had already waited 20 for just a sandwich. We then overheard the staff in kitchen being rude about the customers, who complained about the waiting times.
Alexander S — Google review
Quite the novelty to have a beer inside the church. Interesting architecture and stained glass windows, fun facts too. Beer was fine, as was the food, shame they were missing some items from the menu. Engaging landlady.
Steven A — Google review
Absolutely loved my visit to Duke & Rye! Nestled in a charming old church, the atmosphere is both cozy and breathtaking, thanks to the stunning stained glass windows that add a magical touch. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. The drinks selection is just as impressive, with a variety of local ales and spirits to choose from. It's the perfect spot for an evening out on Chichester center. Highly recommend if you're looking for a place with character and drinks! There is a pool table

British restaurant
The Ivy Chichester is a sophisticated brasserie located in the heart of the city, offering an elegant dining experience with stylish interiors and a diverse menu featuring modern twists on British dishes. Whether for casual meals or special occasions, this restaurant provides late-night dining options and has become a popular spot for those looking to celebrate in style.
One of the best restaurants I have been to so far. I am a fan of posh restaurants with good and different food. This was a gift reservation for my best friend and we had the best time. Most delicious scallops from around the area, the steak was perfectly cooked and the starters were yummy! The bill at the end was unexpectedly low in comparison with other restaurants with poor food quality. Amazing service and nice staff definitely will be returning for more meals! 🤍

Very classy decor and ambiance, with impressive interior plants. The set menu fits the season. The service and the food were of very high quality. The "chocolate bomb" dessert was a real highlight. Good price for value ratio, highly recommend. Just discovered it is a chain, and am excited to try the others.

Absolutely love coming here, foods always delicious, array of drinks and exceptional service. Have to try the Steak it is phenomenal. Price list for all they do a set menu which is extremely affordable.

An excellent restaurant far above the usual standard of a chain. We visited early on a busy Saturday evening. The place was nearly full and buzzing. The service was excellent and attentive. The food was also very good and the menu well executed.

An unforgettable afternoon, lovely family day out to one of the best restaurants in the UK. The food experience was fantastic, an absolute excellent customer service where even the toilets are reflecting the highest standards delivered within the industry. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teams looking after us so well. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My mum and I had a wonderful cream tea. The staff were incredibly polite and attentive from the moment we arrived, making us feel very welcome. The ambience was elegant yet relaxed, perfect for a special afternoon treat. The scones were fresh, the tea was delicious, and everything was beautifully presented. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy a charming cream tea experience in a gorgeous setting.

Very lovely restaurant we visited in lovely Chichester. They offer good deals like their course meals. One thing i can highly recommend is the duck salad. Prices are not cheap but it’s fair with what quality and service you get. Staff were nice and friendly, the interior is amazing and cosy. Would recommend if you’re looking for a date night with someone or a place to celebrate.

Cream Tea as a gift from a friend. It was lovely and the service was top notch. The atmosphere was good but I gave 4 stars as it was almost too noisy and busy.

Phoenix Dining is a delightful culinary gem that brings together the vibrant flavors of Northern Chinese and Nepalese cuisine. Founded by a passionate couple who share a love for food, this restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere where locals can gather to savor unique dishes crafted with care. Each visit promises an exceptional dining experience, making it a must-try spot in Chichester for anyone looking to indulge in delicious meals and enjoy great company.
I’m going to be travelling to Nepal in October with my brother in law and wanted to give him a taste of Nepalese food. The manager is from Kathmandu, they have other asian food but we went for a selection of the Nepalese food on offer. We shared a starter which is a favourite in Nepal vegetable Mo Mo’s and then for the main we shared some lamb and vegetables dishes, not too dissimilar to Indian food but with more subtle spices. Loved it will definitely go back they do a Nepalese special on Thursday unfortunately it was Wednesday.

Had a fabulous lunch at Phoenix Dining today. It's owned and run by a young husband and wife team, who bring a wonderful blend of Nepali and Chinese food cultures together to create interesting and flavour-packed dishes. A short, but well-judged menu is on offer, and this place must be the best value in Chichester. Dishes are beautifully presented, and we learned today that they opened in 2021. How brave, considering the economic climate of the time. I think they could produce a range of house sauces and seasoning blends to take away. The flavours are so interesting. They really deserve to do well. I won't hesitate to return when back in Chi. Wishing them every success for the future.

Recommended by locals and did not disappoint. Absolutely fab food and great service. Oh and a really lovely chenin Blanc. So happy we went. Go.

Absolutely the best resturant in Chichester! Superb wine and cocktail selection with a wide range for every price. The dim sum was steamed and flavoursome and the chicken wings were juicy and delicious with the garlic mayo. The main was gorgeous to look at and tasted superb.

Delicious crispy prawns with smoky scallions and chilli, perfectly cooked, followed by Sticky cumin beef with bao buns And wonderful Mixed fried rice. Wonderful wines. This restaurant is a real gem.

We ate here before going to the theater. I chose the Pre Fixe pre-theatre menu. The crab rolls were a bit creamy and could have used more crab. But my main course was delicious and cooked well. My husband also loved his meal. Dessert was a rice pudding that was more like a creme brûlée and was great. We had a nice glass of wine and finished off with caramel coffees that were yummy. The meal was reasonably priced. I deducted one star for service merely because my husband thought one plate they brought out for appetizers was slightly dirty.

My favourite restaurant in Chichester. It really is a hidden gem, right next to Priory Park and The Harbour Hotel. Delicious Asian food (Chinese and Nepalese) run by a charming husband and wife team. A lot of love goes into the food, always jazz music playing to create a warm ambience and they offer a good pre-theatre set menu, the perfect place to come before a performance at Chichester Festival Thestre, which is a walk away. Highly recommended.

Day 2

North side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the north side side of town. Start the day off with Weald & Downland Living Museum, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Goodwood Racecourse. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Nestled within the stunning South Downs National Park, the Weald & Downland Living Museum offers a captivating journey through rural life from 1300 to 1910. This open-air museum features meticulously restored farmsteads and over 50 historic buildings, including a replica Anglo-Saxon hall house and an Edwardian tin church. Visitors can engage in hands-on activities, interact with traditional breed farm animals, and enjoy scenic walks across its expansive 40 acres.
When we visited the UK, we definitely wanted to visit this site. For those who don't know, it is associated with the filming of The Repair Shop and in fact there was filming happening whilst we were there. A fantastic collection of historical buildings that can't be missed. Well worth the visit even if you have to come from London. Well recommended. We also decided to take lunch at the cafe and weren't disappointed. A+++

Where do you even start with this without writing an essay? Came here with my parents and brother for a family day out together and absolutely loved it. Handed a map at the start which would be useful for a first time visitor, but as we had all been before we just wandered around to all our usual favorites. Bayleaf farmhouse, Tudor kitchen, Watermill, Blacksmith etc. Just come as you are and take things at your own pace. Whichever way you go you will not be disappointed and a day will not be enough time to do it all. The quality of food on offer at the Cafe was surprisingly good, and not in my opinion overly expensive either. Plan your refreshment visit not to coincide with the lunchtime rush (unless it is lunch you are after of course) If I had to level one small criticism here it would be accessibility. None of the tracks seemed entirely wheelchair friendly with coarse gravel and larger stones being commonplace. Even my father who still walks but with the aid of a stick, took to walking on the adjacent grass verges for much of our visit as he found it easier. All things considered definitely worth a visit, and maybe even a repeat visit to explore new areas or revisit old favorites.
Mark D — Google review
What a lovely museum! We loved how big it was and filled with all different kinds of animals and trails to go exploring down. They are even dog friendly and have and indoor and outdoor dog friendly section of the cafe. Definitely recommend getting lunch at the cafe, was pleasantly surprised by the amount of food. Good value for money!

It is 55 years since last visiting and it has certainly changed! We had a really enjoyable 3 hours viewing a wide range of houses and other rural buildings. I cannot recommend a visit more highly and seeing the Repair Shop barn was a real bonus!
Michael S — Google review
For history lovers or just a great day out the museum is fascinating. Where and how did our ancestors lived, how does a mill work, numerous crafts on show, gardens, baking/cooking. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and bring the buildings to life.

Both my partner and I are fans of The Repair Shop and when we found out we could visit where it was filmed we leapt at it. I have a Blue Light card so got a small reduction on entry fee. It’s not cheap but you can easily spend the whole day here. So much to see and there are excellent facilities too. Cafe was fantastic too but if you pack a picnic there are large swathes of grassy areas with benches to sit at (just take a rubbish bag with you).
Candida S — Google review
A wonderful museum, set in a stunning area. Lots of old buildings to go in. Home of the Repair Shop. On site there is a cafe, good selection of food and drinks, there is also a well stocked shop. Discount if you buy your tickets in advance.

Such a wonderful day! This place is gorgeous on so many levels! The restaurant is good, the gift shop is excellent, the actual land and buildings are beautiful and the man who owns Thor and manages the working draft horses is not only so interesting and knowledgable, but he’s also very handsome! Definitely going back!!

West Dean Gardens is a horticultural gem featuring an Edwardian pergola, Victorian glasshouses, and a walled kitchen garden. The gardens date back to the 17th century and have been meticulously restored over the years. Visitors can explore the impressive Victorian glasshouse, sunken and walled gardens, and seasonal plantings. The estate also offers historic features and a surreal tree or two. Additionally, guests can sign up for garden-themed short courses to enhance their gardening skills.
Beautiful, peaceful gardens with stunning views and historic glasshouses. The kitchen garden is a highlight for sure. Great for a quiet stroll, especially in spring/summer. Café is decent too but not that many cakes to choose from. Worth a visit if you enjoy nature and gardens.
Patricie B — Google review
I travelled from Portsmouth to West Dean, and the journey took 43 minutes. I strongly recommend avoiding the motorway and instead enjoying the entire route, which offers opulent countryside scenery. Parking The parking area is rather hidden and can be tricky to find. If you’re using Google Maps, don’t turn at the first entrance for West Dean that it shows. Instead, carry on a little further and take the next street on the same side — this will lead you to the parking space. Entrance There are a few signs, but none clearly indicate the entrance. Look for the West Dean Shop, as this is where you can purchase tickets (£13 per person). The Garden The garden is beautiful, and there’s a large mansion on the grounds, although you cannot go inside. This left me wondering why the entry price is quite high for just access to the garden. Our group of six, including children and elderly visitors, all enjoyed the outing. Exploring the grounds will typically take 1–2 hours. Restaurant There is a restaurant located right next to the shop, where you can buy drinks, ice creams, and meals. Tips If you bring your own picnic, particularly sandwiches, it makes for a very pleasant visit. During my time there, most of the visitors were elderly, giving the place a calm and relaxed atmosphere.

I'm in love with West Dean Gardens and have been for many years. It's probably my favourite place in the UK - it's peaceful, beautiful, welcoming and with each Season offers up a glorious display. As an amateur photographer this is a magical setting and hopefully my attached photos show that. Today was beautifully sunny for September, regretably the Lavant wasn't full enough to have the West Dean gardens stream running - and when it does in the Spring there are ducks with the little chicks splashing around. Had lunch at the cafe. A very tasty sandwich (basically a posh cheese sandwich) with salad and crips. And a pot of tea - squeezed 3 cups out of that. It's not cheap but it's very good. The food here in my view is always excellent. Dogs are allowed in the gardens and also in the cafe, however, they must be on short leash. Please note the cafe does not take cash. Entry at time of writing was £13.50 - children under the age of 16 are free. I don't think this place is for kids - they'd be bored but there is a Chilli Festival once a year, still going, I believe which they might like. Parking is fairly easy and there is an overflow car-park which was opened today, as it was very busy due to the beautiful weather. Busy here doesn't mean crammed in the garden - it's quite sedate as the gardens are huge. Well worth a visit.

West Dean Gardens is a truly beautiful place, full of charm and character. My favourite moment was walking through the pergola – it was absolutely breathtaking, covered with climbers and framed by wonderful understory planting. The Victorian glasshouses are also a delight, carefully maintained and full of interest. I especially appreciated the thoughtful planting in the walled garden, where the same plant is displayed in different varieties side by side – a lovely touch that really shows the richness of each species. A very inspiring and enjoyable visit!

absolutely stunning, immaculately kept and cared for gardens. lovely woodland walk to start with which takes about an hour and then leads you round to the gardens. we particularly liked the glasshouses. fantastic day out for couples and families alike.

Really surprised how good this was! Gold star towhoever is running this place and looking after the plants and trees. Paid £13.50 each to get in but it was spotless, peaceful and great views. No river running till later in the year but the greenhouses, walled gardens and general grounds were beautiful. We had a super sausage roll in the restaurant and paid £5 for a bag to select from the great variety of apples for sale. The college is not open to public but there are tours some days/months.

Loved it. Gardens were great especially the walled Gardens, roses and greenhouses. Nice lunch although a few more choices could be good. Never found the Gardeners tea room so went in the main restaurant twice for refreshments.

West Dean Gardens were a lovely place to visit. We only walked around the gardens there is also a 60 minute walk which looked lovely but there were very heavy black clouds so we didn’t complete this. After seeing the produce in the gardens we were expecting a good selection of fresh cakes however we were very disappointed with what was on offer.

Goodwood Racecourse, also known as 'Glorious Goodwood,' has a rich history of horse racing dating back to 1802. The racecourse hosts 19 unique racedays, including the prestigious Qatar Goodwood Festival. Set against the stunning backdrop of Sussex Downs, visitors can enjoy not only thrilling races but also a variety of dining options and private hospitality.
Nestled in the heart of the countryside lies a breathtaking open field, blanketed in lush green grass that stretches as far as the eye can see. This vibrant space is more than just a scenic view – it’s a lively gathering place where people come together to enjoy one of the most thrilling traditions: horse racing.

Lovely setting, great course and viewing. The parade ring and winners enclosure was outstanding, great access, viewing options, view and presentation with its manicured hedges. Plenty of room in the grandstand to view and no problem in seeing the action. Not sure about the drinks ordering in the bars, so avoiding using it but plenty of seating in the eating areas. East access to betting areas and access to the rails if required. Well worth a visit.

Had a great time at the races. Be warned place is quite pricey. Nearly £8 for a beer. But it was a great experience. I will do this again.

I went last night (06 June 2025). Groove Armada were headlining. WHAT A NIGHT!! Tickets were reasonably priced. However, I paid £50 for a bottle of rose wine. My Cousin paid £57 for a bottle of white wine and £40 for a jug of Pimms. This is an exclusive venue. Famous around the World for its horse racing, motor car racing, events, weddings, experience days and more. It is well worth the money, so save your pennies and have a look at their website, choose what you would like to see there and GO. You will not be disappointed, trust me They occasionally do free spectators events too. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

The Partridge Inn is a rustic country pub with traditional flagstone floors, grand fireplaces, and a spacious beer garden. It offers a delightful ambiance and serves high-quality food at reasonable prices. Customers have the option to host events such as birthday parties in their well-appointed Goodwood Room. The staff is friendly and efficient, ensuring an enjoyable experience overall. However, there was one slight disappointment regarding an additional charge for bread with soup; it would be preferable if this were included in the price.
Popped in here for lunch and had the fish & chips and sausage & mash followed by the brownie. The service was good and food very tasty, although I would have expected a bit more mash than received for the money, but the fish and chip portion was good. The brownie was very good also! We'd return if we are back in the area again

I recently visited the partridge inn and had the delight of having one of their pizzas from the pizza oven outside. We came here first time in a while. I regretted I didn’t come earlier! The food & service are just amazing. Jess and Jacob looked after us so well, thank you! All of us are very happy everything. We strongly recommend this pub.
Ayumi A — Google review
I have previously done a review on this pub via another email. After how satisfactory I found the food and service last time I was here it made me want to come back. I came here again with my girlfriend for another roast dinner, and I’ve got to say how amazing the staff were again, they were very attentive even though it was quite busy and I was very impressed. Now per my last review I stated that it was the best roast I’ve had, which come to think of it wasn’t entirely truthful as today they out did themselves and topped last time’s performance. The presentation was immaculate and the roast as a whole was 10 times tastier. If anyone is looking for a roast dinner I urge you to check out The Partridge Inn. Thank you to the staff of The Partridge Inn!!

I was very impressed with everything this pub had to offer. I came here for a roast dinner and I can honestly say it was one of the best I’ve had in a very long time, the whole dish was presented beautifully and the food was absolutely delicious. The pricing of the roasts were perfect in proportion to the size as they were big. Our servers were Jacob and April and they made us feel extremely welcome and were very attentive. I would definitely recommend The Partridge Inn for a roast. I have yet to dine here during the week so I’m very excited to try what they have to offer.

We went for a lovely long dog walk around Cowdray. On the way home we decided to stop at The Partridge Inn for a cheeky vino & pint. So glad we did! What a little gem of a place - cosy, inviting & nice atmosphere. Jacob the General Manager was very engaging - answering all our questions about the daily menu which looked fab whilst training a new team member & looking after the other customers & diners. He is a true asset to the owners. Sunday roasts sound amazing - we are looking forward to visiting again & having a meal next time.

I rarely leave reviews, but I really thing this one is necessary. I was so disappointed in the food , one of the worst experiences in my life, Overcoked steak is an understatement, it was hard as rubber sole ,they charged£ 35, insane . What is even more sad is that I was so hungry that I had to eat it . Worst chips I had in my life , the oil was so burnt that literally the chips were bitter . On the contrary the pub is cozy and the staff is nice , maybe for a drink it worth going, definitely not for food . Even though, instead of a cider we got 2 pints of lager 😂

An excellent, beautifully presented meal! 5 of us had a superb supper with starters, mains and puds. Every course was delicious. Our favourite starters were the prawn bruschetta, smoked mackerel pate and scrumptious baked Camembert. The lamb rump main was cooked perfectly as was the spicy baked salmon dish. We finished with affogatos which were perfect and all we could manage. The service was friendly and all the staff were knowledgeable and there was a brilliant atmosphere. We always have exceptional meals here whether we visit for lunch or supper. The best food in West Sussex!

We've been here a number of times, my wife and myself, my mum and family. I can't rate the rooms but they look very clean and nice as doors were open. We asked for a place near the fire and it was all prepared. We chose to share a squid starter and for some reason opted for pizzas. In all honesty it was probably the best pizza we've ever had. Look it up, as it's a hidden gem. Could have sat there all afternoon and evening ! We will certainly continue to return when in the area. The history of the inn is fantastic so read the overview as well as it will make you want to go there.

The Earl of March is a charming gastropub located in the picturesque South Downs. It offers a modern English menu featuring locally sourced seafood, making it a top choice for fine dining in Chichester. Situated near Goodwood Racecourse, it's popular among visitors of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The pub boasts exquisite cuisine with dishes like pork with honey roast pumpkin and pan fried sole with pomme anna.
We were very impressed by the food and staff at the Earl of March today. We both had the scallops starter from the al a carte menu and the dish was perfectly cooked with delicious flavours We then each had an open sandwich, these were al a carte sandwiches at normal pub prices, I had Brie, beetroot and homemade pickle, my husband had beef, both came with pickled vegetables, remoulade and brilliant homemade chunky chips that as delicious as roast potatoes, the sandwiches were thoughtful, tasty and great value for money, even though we were full we couldn’t resist sharing the sticky toffee pudding dessert and we weren’t disappointed it was gooey but light, with great ice cream on a bed a crunch. The staff were friendly, there was a lovely fire burning and I expect we’ll be back.

We went for lunch yesterday and had a fab meal. The fish finger open sandwich was delicious with proper pieces of fish! Not a normal fish finger at all! Brie sandwiches were also delicious. Everything was well presented. Great coffee too. And super friendly service. We also bought some bread to take away. Would highly recommend!

Well deserves 5 stars. Beautiful surroundings set off the perfect pub experience. Well worth a visit! Edit. Just returned for a second visit. This time for dinner. And wow! The food was out of this world. The quality of the meals would not ve out of place in a high end London restuarant. One our party was vegan and while there qas not a vegan option on the menu, the chef was more than happy to make a meal to suit. Superb all round.

We went there because of the sandwich we saw online. And we were not disappointed. Everything locally produced. The steak sandwich was amazing. My kid had a fish fingers sandwich and was a 3 fist cod size pieces. You cannot eat as a normal sandwich. Fork and knife... Staff was very polite and place is immaculate. Definitely recommend anf would like to visit again.

Literally popped in whilst on a centurion way walk, out of curiosity. Manager was friendly, helpful and informative about the area. We were offered opportunity to refill our water bottles with chilled water. We spotted homemade loaves of soda bread for sale, and bought one to try. VERY delicious, I cut it up & have frozen sections. It freezes well and is delicious...I'll definitely buy another if I find my way there again. Views outside over The Trundle are great.

Nice country pub and main course choice looks quite pricey, but pretty sure that they are good quality. We had a family lunch there on a week day. Their light lunch menus is really reasonable priced. Enjoy my posh open sandwich and fancy cut vegetables and chips on the side. Kids menu is pretty big potion and quite health with vegetables. Staff provided friendly efficient service. We enjoyed our lunch here. Free on site parking. Small beer garden next to the car park. Nice view of the field from the beer garden. Recommend to all.

I'm a foody and I will be the first to let restaurant staff know if something is not good with my food. The food here is AMAZING. The Earl of March's chef puts The Ivy to shame. There is simply no comparison. Not only it's beautifully presented and yummy just to look at but it's SO tasty. I've been here several times now and never been let down so I thought it was time to leave a review. The food is not cheap but it's worth it. It's an experience you won't forget.
