Arenas & Stadiums
The Amphitheatre of Nîmes is an imposing Roman structure that serves as the epicenter of the city's Roman history. With a seating capacity of 24,000 and standing at 69 feet high, it is one of the best-preserved arenas outside Italy. Visitors can explore the arena's nooks and crannies, gaining insight into where animals, slaves, and soldiers awaited their battles.
The Nîmes Amphitheater is one of the most impressive and best-preserved Roman arenas in the world. Built around 70 AD, shortly after the Colosseum in Rome, it could seat up to 24,000 spectators and was used for gladiator fights, wild animal hunts, and public spectacles that thrilled Roman crowds. Its oval shape spans 436 feet long and 331 feet wide, with a complex system of corridors, staircases, and galleries that allowed for quick access—an architectural marvel even by today’s standards. What makes the arena unique isn’t just its state of preservation, but the way it’s still alive today: the amphitheater continues to host concerts, festivals, and even bullfights, blending ancient tradition with modern culture.
Philippe Q — Google review
Incredibly well preserved Roman amphitheatre in Nîmes, France. It is just like visiting the Colosseum in Rome but it is far less busy and in considerably better condition-- they even still hold events here! My only regret is not being able to see an event in the arena, as I can only imagine this would be spectacular. In any case it is a very worthwhile sight to see in Nîmes
Connor G — Google review
It is not so big as in Rome :) but also Amphitheatre of Nîmes has no crazy crowds before you enter. We were in June (open 9-19) you can enter 30 min before closing if you no need audio guide and 1 hour if you need one. They have shop, toilets on 1 floor, signs everywhere. And after this summer heat so nice to be there near cold stones thinking about great history they witnessed!
Julia H — Google review
Beautiful amphitheatre. Make sure you check that there are no ongoing shows at night because you won't be able to enter unless you buy a ticket! I believe until the 18th of August (2025) there are shows every night, Dream of a Gladiator. It was quite nice, for a not too bad a of a price. The theater has now seating on top of the stone seating so definitely takes a way from the actual look of the amphitheatre. Quite impressive and unexpected!
Elana P — Google review
The interior and exterior are beautiful and crowded with tourists. It is recommended to buy tickets online beforehand so that you do not have to queue for the audio guide. We can download the audio guide by QR code and then listen to it by number.
Jiraporn C — Google review
Built around AD 90–100, about two decades after the Colosseum in Rome, the arena is one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world. Constructed as a grand entertainment venue for the citizens of the Roman colony of Nemausus, the structure stands approximately 21 meters tall with a two-tiered facade composed of 60 arches per level, totaling 120 arches in a highly refined architectural design. From the 13th to the 18th century, the arena was transformed into a fortress-like residential quarter, housing over 700 inhabitants. In 1786, the internal dwellings were gradually dismantled to restore the monument’s original form. Originally capable of accommodating around 24,000 spectators, the venue now holds approximately 16,000 people for safety and conservation purposes. Today, the amphitheater serves as a dynamic cultural and entertainment space, hosting traditional bullfights, Camargue-style bull games, the annual Festival de Nîmes, concerts, and historical reenactments. ※ Included in the Pass Romanité.
Seokjin H — Google review
Beautiful amphitheatre its not as big as Rome but just as Beautiful. No queues, we were able to walk around & enjoy it without bumping into people. Would recommend a visit.
Yvonne K — Google review
Staggeringly complete and imposing amphitheatre in Nimes. City is very busy and parking took a while for our visit in a very hot June 2025. There are a few Roman buildings (somewhat spread out) for which you can get a good value pass to see all of them. Our visit here was marred slightly by preparations for an event or concert of some kind but was still interesting.

Nimes is wonderful. And the best place to start your visit is this wonderful official tourism office. They gave us full info and a great map. We got the two day pass. Lots to see and do here. Great English spoken also. Merci

I usually don't write reviews for tourist office, but this one deserves a 5 star. They are super friendly and even have a kids play area while you wait.
Jananee M — Google review
We just drove into Nimes without a plan other than to see the arena. We happened to walk past this office and decided to go in. I'm very glad we did! The greeting was very friendly, we got lots of useful information - including a suggestion to ride the tram that takes you around town. Which gave us a great sense of the place and what else we wanted to see. We ended up spending most of the day in Nimes. Thanks for your kindness! The city itself . . . captivating. We loved the simple, elegant Christmas decorations. Much different than the garish way we do it in NYC. The Arena is simple awe-inspiring. And what a credit to the city for keeping it in use! We found the people, shops, parks all to be wonderful. Traffic is a little tight, but there's ample parking at a very reasonable rate.
Jay T — Google review
A very pleasant welcome and a lot of interesting information / advice. Giving five stars despite one misinformation that you cannot pay contactless on board of LiO buses. We travelled to Uzés, Avignon, Arles and from Remoulins and every bus has a contactless reader where you pay each time €2 for each journey. We were also told by the lio information inside the Nimes centre train station that contactless is not possible and you can only pay with cash or but tickets on their app. However, when you try to register an account on the app, the verification email never arrived.

Museum Romanité, located in Nimes, France, is a modern archaeological museum that opened in 2018. The museum offers an extensive collection of Roman artifacts and interactive exhibits, providing visitors with a comprehensive journey through the city's Roman heritage. Situated near Les Arenes, the futuristic steel-and-glass structure provides panoramic views of the arena. The museum showcases statues, mosaics, and other relics with detailed information available in both English and French languages.
Beautiful themed museum. It is open and airy, but the exhibition still has structure. I liked lines on the floor, that separated different time periods. Also interactive elements were fun. In Nimes this museum makes a lot of sense.

Opened in 2018, this is a landmark archaeological museum dedicated to Nîmes’ deep-rooted Roman heritage. Designed by Elizabeth de Portzamparc, the museum features a semi-transparent glass façade made of layered printed glass panels that evoke the folds of a Roman toga and the patterns of ancient mosaics. The contemporary design visually harmonizes with the adjacent Roman arena. Inside, the museum traces 2,500 years of history, from the Roman period to modern times, through a collection of artifacts enhanced by immersive technologies such as digital displays and augmented reality, offering a dynamic and interactive experience of Nîmes’ evolving cultural identity. ※ Included in the Pass Romanité.

Right across from the Nîmes Arena, the Musée de la Romanité blends futuristic glass curves with 2,000+ years of history. Inside: dazzling Roman mosaics, ancient sculptures, and interactive 3D reconstructions that bring the city’s past to life. Don’t miss the rooftop garden for panoramic views over Nîmes. Modern design, rich collections, and a perfect location make it a must-visit.

Modern well organised museum that has an interesting collection covering the period from pre-Roman times to the Middle Ages. The museum is designed by French architect Elizabeth de Portzamparc and was opened June 2. 2018. There are beautiful Roman mosaic floors on display. Recommended and so glad I went. One of the most impressive museums I've been to and I have visited several in France and Italy. Very well presented, great staff and the quality of exhibits incredible.

The Most Interactive and Thoughtful Museum! The Musée de la Romanité is by far one of the most interactive, thoughtful, and well-laid-out museum I've visited. Navigation is a breeze; you can simply follow the arrows to know where to go next. The museum offers a wealth of videos and written explanations in French, English, and Spanish, ensuring that everyone can fully appreciate the exhibits. Additionally, there are guides walking around the museum ready to answer any questions you might have. The museum is rich with historical information and artistic presentations, creating a truly immersive and interactive experience. My only regret is not getting the audio guide, which I'm sure would have added even more depth to the visit. The audio guide was 4 euros. Also of note was the temporary exhibition on Achilles! It was a very beautiful and interactive exhibit. Highly recommend visiting this museum!

Maison Carrée, also known as "square house," is a well-preserved Roman temple located in Nimes, France. It was built in 4AD and dedicated to the princes of youth, Emperor Augustus' adopted grandson. The temple features richly decorated columns and friezes. Over the centuries, it has served various purposes such as a church, stables, and even a museum of fine arts.
A great Romain temple that has been preserved because it has been in continuous use. Over the years it has been a private residence, a court house, a fine arts museum and a great well restored monument. In the early 2000 they restored the tops of the columns from the original quarry. It is beautifully lit up at night.

It's a beautiful building to admire from ancient Roman times. The exterior looks impressive and it's located in a lovely spot in Nîmes. I didn't see the inside because there was an entrance fee and I was told there wasn't much to see."
Joost H — Google review
A masterpiece of ancient Roman architecture, this is considered the best-preserved Roman temple in the world, symbolizing the era of Pax Romana. Constructed between 16 BCE and 4 CE, it was dedicated to Gaius and Lucius Caesar, adopted sons of Emperor Augustus, serving as a temple of imperial cult worship. Throughout the Middle Ages, it was repurposed as a town hall, church, and storehouse. From 1821 to 1907, it housed the Musée des Beaux-Arts, which contributed to its preservation. The temple features a hexastyle façade with six Corinthian columns and a pseudoperipteral layout—engaged columns along the cella walls creating the illusion of a full colonnade. Its harmonious proportions and refined decorative elements have inspired many later buildings, including the Virginia State Capitol (USA) and La Madeleine in Paris. ※ Included in the Pass Romanité.
Seokjin H — Google review
An absolutely beautiful and well conserved classic temple. The museum itself is very small (one room) so a visit inside will be a very quick visit - one could certainly view from the outside only.
Andrew V — Google review
Beautiful Roman temple from 1st century BC. The entry ticket allows you to go in and read a couple of information on the monument's history. While you can just poke your head inside and read the Wikipedia entry to get more context about the place, paying the ticket could help support the maintenance of the monuments.
Mi H — Google review
There are 2 sides to this review. 1. Stunning architecture, a building that has stood for 1000’s of years passed the passage of time for of that it’s well worth the visit. 2, however there is nothing inside than the very informative information boards in one room that you pay €5 and queue for 20 mins. I get the contribution to upkeep, More interesting from the outside.

Best preserved temple of it's inid anywhere. There are a few pillars in Barcelona (allegedly) and one still standing in Pula, bu neither compares to this. Not much to see in the little museum, but like any great art or delicious food you can enjoy it over and over again just being in it's presence and feasting on its history and magnificence.

Les Halles de Nîmes is a bustling covered market with over 100 stalls, offering a wide variety of local gastronomic specialties. Visitors can indulge in PDO picholine olives, olive oil, anchoiade, Pelardons goat cheeses from nearby Cevennes, and Costieres de Nimes wines. The market is a food lover's paradise where one can savor regional cuisine such as brandade de morue and taureau with Camargue rice.
Wonderful market with a large variety of choices. Fishmongers, butchers, charcuterie, local specialties such as brandade, rouille, alioli, Camargue rice, cheeses, ground coffee, olives and tapenades, baked goods, fresh pasta and of course fruit and veg, are plentiful. There are a couple of places to eat as well. Best to go later in the week if you want to see everybody open, but even on slower days you can find a plethora of good stuff.

Established in 1884, this traditional indoor market underwent architectural renewal in the 1970s but still preserves the legacy of 19th-century glass-and-iron market design. It offers a vibrant showcase of local culinary culture and fresh regional produce. With over 100 stalls and shops selling vegetables, meats, seafood, cheeses, olives, wines, and more, the market is a hub of daily life in Nîmes. The interior layout is uniquely organized by aisles named after spices, enhancing the charm of the space.

Superb market in one of the gastronomy centers of southern France. Shopped here often during our week in Nîmes; bought fish, beef, chicken, cheese, vegetables, bread, wine. Everything fresh, most of it local. Do yourself a favor and find a place in Nîmes with a kitchen for at least a few days so you can take advantage of what this market has to offer.

La Pie qui Couette is a remarkable bistro located in the heart of Halles de Nimes, where they skillfully combine and cook fantastic ingredients to create an exquisite dining experience. The ambiance is cozy and reminiscent of a traditional French bistro. The setting is nothing short of great, as it provides the perfect backdrop for enjoying their superb food. This restaurant offers high-quality cuisine that has been recognized by the prestigious Michelin Guide in 2021, all at an affordable price.
It was a hidden gem inside the market! I was so glad that I decided to sit down to enjoy the meal here instead of heading to the planned place. The radar clams were perfectly cooked, the oysters were very fresh. Excellent.

This establishment is a very rare combination of fabulous food, amazing staff and a team that works well together despite the chairs always being full and turning over. We were greeted pleasantly and our server was very patient even though we speak minimal French. We started with Nougat de Chèvre. Ahhh the flavour that just melted in our mouths. It was absolutely beautiful on a fresh baguette. For mains we had Parillada de Poissons and Poitrine de Veau. The fish was cooked to perfection and nestled on a bed of zucchini and tomatoes. The veal was fork tender in a rich gravy with mashed potatoes. We shared a Cafe de la Pie for dessert. Delightful cake morsels that we soaked in our choice of rum. This restaurant is not to be missed. The flavours we enjoyed here and the atmosphere are going to become one of our favourite travel memories! ❤️

Located in a corner of the market, this is a very atmospheric experience. It’s clearly favoured by locals but still felt casual and welcoming to us as tourists. You sit at bar stools watching a professional crew deliver mostly meat or fish oriented dishes to a very high standard. The service was great. We ate slightly later and as the rush slowed down, the non-wait staff took the time to interact with the children.
Richard K — Google review
The prices don’t reflect the product, environment and service. Even as a New Yorker, I felt the dishes were overpriced. Came here based on NYT article. What is NYT thinking? Ordered a bouillabaisse (27EUR) with some fish fillet and Nîmes’ specialty (14EUR) involving salted cod. Their bouillabaisse was a pool of soup with a lot of boiled potatoes and fennel, topped with 4 slices of grilled fish. The stock itself was fine, but given the content and environment, 27EUR seemed excessive (Am I in Norway? ). The appetizer tasted good. Even though there were only 2 or 3 other pairs of customers, the service was rather rushed (ie. Doesn’t present the wine he’s pouring to guests), so definitely doesn’t reflect the high price. Maybe it used to good? Who knows.

A vegetarian pizza, what could possibly go wrong? Then the pizza arrives covered in oil with the pizza base actually soggy from oil. Virtually inedible (the veg toppings were actually very nice). Very friendly and helpful staff but I think that they should turn their hands to a different profession. Check out the picture of their version of a pizza, it was even less appetising than it looks.

The food was wonderful. We had steak (their most expensive dish) and it was just a huge amount of meat. And it was amazing. Soft. Juicy accompanied with some morels. Just great. The restaurant has an amazing view on one of the biggest attractions of the Nimes - Arenes de Nimes. We were seated at the time of the business lunch even without reservation. The service could be a little bit better. Everything is fine except waiting time. Also there is an amazing rooftop with free access, don't forget to visit it. There is a wonderful view of the city from above

Food: signature menu- was tasty but I expected a bit more Service: waiters need solid training, new uniforms and have to learn how to serve people.Im surprised how inattentive they were, and how messy the table was during our meal. At the end without asking us first if we wanted anything the waiter showed up with a bill and said that they were closing - it was 23:10 ( they officially close at 00:00) I'm not sure how this place got a Michelin star Atmosphere: relaxing with a nice view

The stylish restaurant is next to the arena and has a great view. The portions were not so significant, but they were enough, and the food was generally good. English makes things a bit harder, and they sold us ducks as chickens, but overall, it was a great experience, and the service was fair, with a good view of the city.

Good view, great food, lovely service. The artichoke soup was interesting, but not very generous. The entrée with egg (which I forgot the name) looked tasty, but nothing special in it: quite tasteless actually. If you are looking for something different, I don't suggest to order the tartar. However, the shrimp dish was really good, the shrimps were fresh and tasty in themselves already! So you'd better order seafood or a dish prepared with a local products. The place is clean and just right. The restaurant is totally well located

This lunch was a final point on our trip to Nîmes. Unfortunately, it brought a kind of disappointment to us. First, I made an order for me and than for my wife. In 30 minutes I asked where is my food as my wife was waiting for me as she had been served. So, her meal was already cold when the waiter answered that I hadn’t ordered anything except wine. I had to repeat my order and he finally brought it. It could have been a misunderstanding if he hadn’t tried to persuade me that it’s my failure. My food was quite nice but my wife didn’t like her meal at all as it was too fat. At the same time, wine was great. I could recommend this place just to see the great view of the Nîmes Arena. That’s it.

We had dinner here on our first night while visiting Nimes in May earlier this year. The restaurant is located on the rooftop of the Musée de la Romanité and it overlooks the arena. The view is really pretty at night but that is really the only highlight of the meal. The interior and exterior spaces felt cold and sterile, not cozy or romantic at all. The food was just average. There was nothing we had that was memorable. And the service was average at best. The waiter was not attentive and never asked if we liked our appetizers or entrees. Overall, the only great thing about this restaurant is the view.
C W — Google review
This was a very odd experience, unfortunately. Not bad, but could have been much better. We both went for the set menu priced at €36. The first dish was the poached egg one, which was a good concept but I just found it bizarre that it was served cold. The egg was poached well, spinach cooked perfectly and the comte sauce good with crunchy croutons adding texture but it was pretty much served fridge temperature which surprised me, not in a good way. The main was veal blanquette which was presented in a modern style. The dish again tasted good, but the meat was a bit chewy, verging on inedible in places. The vegetable garnishes and rice were all cooked accurately and tasty but the main element let it down. For dessert I had the chocolate option which was basically a broken up crispy cake with Chantilly cream. It was nice enough if not kind blowing and needed more of the fruit gel to really ramp up the flavours. Service was excellent when you got it but it was far too slow and staff were often seen standing around inside the restaurant. This meal took nearly three hours which is just way too long. There were only 8-9 tables in so it's not like they were rushed off their feet. Could be so good but needs work

Haute French restaurant
Restaurant Skab, a modern French dining spot, offers creative tasting menus in an unassuming setting with a charming shady courtyard. The seasonal menu by chef Damien Sanchez features dishes like crispy Provencal lamb and poached apple dessert. With fixed-price menus and a value weekday lunch option, it's perfect for both lunch and dinner. The restaurant also boasts an exquisite wine list curated by the owner who is a sommelier.
A superb experience for my very first Michelin star restaurant. I was amazed by the quality of every dish, and the level of craftsmanship that goes into each dish was beyond amazing. The service was absolutely five star as well: every server in a suit, high level of attention to detail, superb wine pairings and serene atmosphere. We ate for nearly 4 hours without interruption! Will come back next time I'm in town. Congrats to the entire team!

Wonderful affaire menu in a lovely garden setting. Would return to Nîmes for their longer menu. They easily accommodated my lack of French and no reservation. Everything was fantastic.

Memorable meal. Everything from the setting, the service and the food was exceptional. One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. The amount of detail and work that goes to every plate is amazing. We had the menu plaisir and every dish was delicious. The slice rack of veal was the tender, yet flavorful accompanied with a delicious jus and the freshest of asparagus. Unbelievable selection of cheeses and delicious desserts. The chef stopped by at the end to say hello and make sure everything went well. An experience to cherish and remember.

Food: Not bad Service: super slow, but polite. But extremely slow! we spent 4 hours for a dinner Atmosphere: nice, we stayed outside and it very cute. Price: super expensive for what it is. 45 euros for a starter with tomatos? Are you crazy? Overall: a super expensive restaurant with above average quality food and S L O W service.

This was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The chef takes so much care to make every dish come together to sing in a true chorus of flavors. I also have a gluten allergy, and there was so much I could eat I never once felt deprived. They even had gluten free bread! Upon hearing I hadn’t ordered his signature soufflé for dessert (I’d assumed it had gluten), the chef sent me one on his own to ensure I got to try it. The staff was absolutely lovely from start to finish, and the entire experience truly felt like Poetry in motion. I cannot wait to return!

For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Jardin de La Fontaine, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Tour Magne. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Historical place
Jardin de La Fontaine is a 17th-century park spanning 15 hectares, featuring Roman ruins, botanic gardens, ponds, and sculptures. It houses the oldest Roman structure in Nimes, the Tour Magne, situated on Mont Cavalier within the garden grounds. Notably, it was Europe's first public garden built on the site of an ancient Roman spring called La Source in the 18th century.
An absolute must in Nimes. The oldest public gardens in Europe. Beautifully laid out historic gardens with lots of classical architecture, statues, and Roman ruins. A superb restaurant in the centre, nice inside, but lots of alfresco dining, which is absolutely lovely.
GRAHAM B — Google review
Commissioned by King Louis XV in 1745, this is one of the oldest public gardens in Europe. It was built around La Fontaine, a natural spring venerated by the people of Nîmes for millennia, and once the heart of a sacred Gallo-Roman sanctuary. Designed by Jacques-Philippe Mareschal and Pierre Dardailhon, the garden harmoniously blends Roman ruins with the aesthetics of a formal French garden. It features a lower section in the classical French formal style and an upper section landscaped in a more natural, Mediterranean style.

A beautiful garden with many walkways, plazas and viewpoints. The stairs and fountains are truly beautiful and there are some amazing panorama views of the city. It is quite a climb to the top though, with many staircases and ramps, so be make sure you bring your walking shoes!

Museums
Carré d'Art in Nimes, France is a modern architectural marvel designed by Norman Foster. This cultural center stands in stark contrast to the ancient Maison Carree, creating a captivating juxtaposition of old and new. The building houses a vast collection of contemporary art and serves as the city's library. With its sleek design featuring glass, concrete, and steel, Carré d'Art pays homage to its historical surroundings while showcasing temporary exhibitions that highlight the latest trends in modern art.
Extremely inspiring contemporary museum and one of my personal favourites in Nimes. The curation was diverse in art styles with great taste for new artists :)
Bianca R — Google review
A nice cultural center for Nimes, where you go from the library to the classrooms where you can set up exhibitions such as those of modern art. The architecture is new and majestic as a whole and definitely makes it quite a tourist attraction. Then there is also the possibility of going to the bar-restaurant with a terrace overlooking the square of the Roman temple.
J_Gogo — Google review
I was there for the opening of the first exhibition to occupy the entire space by a single artist ( and he’s local!) Despite being 87? He not only directed the installation, he apparently created the last work for it 5 days ago! A stunning space with knowledgeable and friendly staff. A must see !

Great building and pretty library, nevertheless, the museum disappointed us. Super SMALL exhibition and quite awful. We enjoy contemporary art museums but this one is not worth the money. Nice admission staff, but the one at the exhibition were kind of annoying.

Au Flan Coco is a restaurant in Nîmes that offers a great value for the quality of food. They have a monthly changing menu to ensure fresh and seasonal ingredients are used. The pate à coco and flan coco are typical dishes of Nîmes, offering original combinations of flavors in just the right portion sizes. The atmosphere is pleasant, with the option to dine on a patio under the shade of a large tree.
Wonderful food, wonderful friendly service. The restaurant is located in a former convent and we sat in the very picturesque courtyard. The house speciality potato pie with chicken and chanterelle sauce was amazing and the accompanying salad too. Cognac souffle for dessert....yum! I would advise booking in advance.

. I reserved table outside 2 weeks prior and recommend to reserve this place. They will not let you before opening if you reserved 19-30. I really loved this place. I highly recommend to eat there. Very attentive and nice boys which served our food . We took gourmet menu (starter +main+dessert) for 39 euro. I took Grilled Cuttlefish with garlic aioli and black rice. Super tasty and for starter goat burrata with tomatos 🍅 mmmm 😋 desert also were superb Coconut flan, baked with lime in caramel. Highly recommend to take it :) my husband took Homemade Brandade alla Puttanesca" (tomatoes, garlic, olives, capers, lemon & pine nuts) and I took some of his as usual 😂 and it was fresh and amazing. Instead of main u can take House speciality. It is flaky potato pie, baked in a traditional oven, has become the signature dish of Au Flan Coco. Served with a fresh salad and raw vegetables, it's a generous, authentic... and truly unique dish. You choose the filling you're craving — they bake it right into the heart of the pie! He took ratatouille with basil pesto and no regrets there - I recommend to try !! He was saying no place for dessert but when he saw my coconut 🥥 flan he changed his mind 😂

Amazing dish, and the most delicious stew beef I’ve ever tried, so tender and juicy. The dessert plan coco is out of this world, everything tastes like homemade, nice service too. We were eating in a patio, not hot at all, covered by a big tree. Very nice experience!

A very good rate between food and price. They change menù every month to guarantee fresh and seasonal ingredients. The tipical plat are paté a coco (a salt cake with different combination inside, I've tried Brandade and tapenade, tipical of Nimes) and flan coco (a dessert) . Original combinations of tastes and a right portion!

Our group of four visited au Flan Coco for lunch as part of our day trip to Nimes. One of our group enjoyed the Plat du Jour (Today’s special) Cuisse de poulet farcie à la scarmoza et basilic, jus de volaille, polenta et courgette. (Chicken thigh stuffed with scarmoza and basil, polenta and zucchini). They thoroughly enjoyed it. The remainder of our group enjoyed Les Pat à Coco, a specialty of the restaurant. It is a potato pie, with crispy, flaky pastry and you can choose from a variety of additional layers within that might include roasted vegetables, tapenade, goats cheese, bacon, caramelised lamb…there were many options. This came with a generous and nourishing salad. Coupled with a rosè and followed by coffee and a range of sumptuous desserts this was a devine lunch made only better by warm service and, of course, outstanding company. If the weather is good I recommend eating outside like we did. A perfect lunch!

Tour Magne is a remarkable 18-meter stone watchtower that forms part of the Roman city wall from the Augustinian era. Situated on the highest hill in Nimes, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area. Along with other Roman monuments like Amphitheatre and Maison Caree, Tour Magne adds to Nimes' historical significance. The tower stands as the oldest Roman structure in Nimes and is located within Jardins de la Fontaine on Mont Cavalier.
Cracking monument, well worth the climb to the top for the views.
Yvonne K — Google review
Not for the faint-hearted! The Tower is on a hill, giving it a great vantage point. It's a steep walk up, so take plenty of water on a warm day. There are over 180 steps to the top of the tower. Not recommended for anyone with vertigo, or claustrophobia, as the stairs narrow at the top. I chickened out over half way up! Great views over Nîmes and its surrounding area. We'd purchased the Arena/Tour/Temple/Museum ticket and managed to do them all over a 6 hour time period.
Christine M — Google review
Cool monument! Great view from the top. You can use the pass of 3 monuments for it. There’s a limit of people to climb on the top so you might have to wait few minutes for others coming down.
G T — Google review
Tour Magne is originally a Roman construction offering a commanding view over Nimes and it's environs. You can climb to the top using a spiral staircase around a central supporting column to a smallish viewing balcony. It is possible to just pass on the main spiral staircase but on the other levels you need to 'tuck in' to let people pass. This may not be good if you have issues with claustrophobia or vertigo.
Paul B — Google review
It’s a bit far from the Nimes center. A historical place and you can go to the top to see the city view. The terrace is small however not many people on the top, you also can enjoy the view.
Rio C — Google review
This is the only surviving tower from the ancient Roman fortifications of Nîmes. The site originally hosted a dry-stone tower built around 400 BCE by the Gallic tribe Volques Arécomiques, measuring approximately 18 meters in height. In the 1st century BCE, under Emperor Augustus, the Romans incorporated and extended this Gallic structure, raising it to about 36 meters as part of a larger sacred and defensive complex. The current height is about 32.5 meters, with part of the third level now lost. The summit offers stunning views over the city of Nîmes and the surrounding landscapes, including the Alpilles mountain range. ※ Included in the Pass Romanité.

Dishes like spelt risotto with veal and cepes or pork caillettes with chard and pickles are popular choices.
We are a couple on our honeymoon and had previously eaten lunch out at a restaurant every day of our trip through Iceland, Amsterdam, and Brussels. All at top rated places. This was the best lunch meal we have had on our trip so far. Everything was perfectly cooked and the ingredients fresh. You can feel the love from the kitchen and the attention to detail that they put in to every preparation. It was also extremely affordable for the quality of the food. A wonderful meal.

Small restaurant in the centre of Nimes. Service and food were impeccable. Great wine and desserts. There are only 2 dishes of the day available in the menu, so no kids menu, nuggets, steak haché etc. But the staff and the chef will find a way to serve a nice dish for children based on the daily menu. The two dishes we had, a steak dish and a vegetarian chili con carne, were amazing. Definitely going back soon!

One of the best addresses in nimes. There is a daily menu that changes every day with one starter one main and few deserts options for 15euro for lunch. The menu freshly cooked and decided on the day. Ingredients are good, cuisine feels very homy. I had a very good croque miette as a desert that was presented to me by the very young chef of desert who you could feel was very excited and happy about his job which I liked a lot. The desert also ended up being this delicious type of crumble with more texture to it. Every time I am back in Nimes La Marmitte is one of the first place I'm checking. They also just moved into a much bigger space than their original one which means they can serve more people !

I had a lovely lunch at Le Ciel de Nîmes, where you can enjoy the most stunning views of the Maison Carrée. Terrible Michelin dining expereinece here in the end of April, 2024. 1. What a big fly during our dinner!! Another table saw it as well. 2. The waiter said our burnt bread is normal. 3. Kept serving same bread without asking until we asked them stop it. 4. Put the new knife and fork serveral times without clean bread crumb whole table unitil we asked. 5. The big guy did not introduce the (order of) wine and even drip wine onto the table. 6. Served many finger food without offering us any refreshing wipe (wet wipes). 7. Dining introduction was very casually and even mixture of Endlish and French. 8. Even the manager hit the bottle with knocking sound when she pouring the water. 9. The waiter asked me how many dessert should serve, I said 5 and he gave us 4. (and he served 6 salad for our 5 ppl table). Unbelievable! 10. After the main dish, no one serve us water until we call the waiter who stand far away. 11. Served us with broken glasses. Highly "NOT" recommended if you wanna have Michelin expereice here.

The waiters made frequent mistakes: provide non-beef dishes to eating beef person, and serving side dishes in the wrong order. After introducing the restaurant, leave directly. There are big flies flying in the restaurant. The waiter was very busy but often didn't add water. The wine taster didn't explain the order of the wines. Very bad 2 star Michelin experience. Is it because Asians are more easy?

(Translated by Google) We had a wonderful time. A true delight, both in terms of the food and the hospitality. The restaurant is quite intimate, and the staff is truly excellent. The chef is very careful with his seasonings and made sure to thank us at the end of the meal. I'm the one who thanks him for this wonderful experience. The wine selection was also remarkable.

Nice Mall with free & easy parking lot access. Good choice for shopping french/European brands. Clean, spacious with good overall service. Plenty of food options including a grocery store. We loved Mango, Naf-Naf, Chausport for Lacoste shoes and Kookaï...

I like the space. It's very friendly, clean and full of great stores. The only thing that I wish they had would be a Zara. If they had it...This would be the hit spot of Nimes. Nonetheless i like spending my afternoon here shopping and then going to Columbus and grab a cupcake and a coffee. Very lovely!

Standard mix. Free parking handy for Trambus into town centre, south east corner near McDonald's. No effort made to clear up. Recently saw large patch of broken glass near West entrance. Still there 4 days later. Trolleys in wrong places. WiFi a joke. Seriously terrible. Even the staff say so. Recently added electric car chargers. Not seen them working and taken 4 years since they started with a solar panel parking shade. Unfortunately it's the only decent shade in carpark so always full. 30 spaces out of 2,000? In summer your car will fry. Update June 2022 Even worse. Carpark a mess. Trapped in automatic door. Hand sanitizer useless. No trolleys near main entrances. Lots far away. 1 person could do this. They don't care. Vans park in handicapped spaces and parent with small children spaces. The Casino drive around the back is a good experience and the pharmacy west entrance.

Nestled in the heart of Nîmes, the Fontaine Pradier is a stunning marble fountain that graces the Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle. Inaugurated in 1850, this historical monument was crafted by architect Charles Questel and sculptor James Pradier. The centerpiece features a young woman symbolizing Nîmes, adorned with representations of iconic Roman structures like the Arena and Maison Carrée.
Beautiful park with fountains, food stalls, a merry-go-round and views of the Arena and boulevard leading to the station. A good spot to sit and read whilst soaking up the atmosphere.

Inaugurated in 1851, the fontaine is a marble fountain designed by Charles-Auguste Questel and James Pradier. It symbolizes the city of Nîmes through its connection to water and Roman heritage. At the center stands an allegorical female figure representing the city itself, crowned with miniature replicas of the Arènes de Nîmes and the Maison Carrée. Surrounding her are four seated figures, each representing one of the region’s principal rivers and ancient sources.

The Pradier fountain is a marble fountain on the Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle in Nimes, inaugurated in 1850. It was created by the architect Charles Questel and the sculptor James Pradier and it is registered as a historical monument by decree on November 16, 1988. The fountains main figure is a young woman standing in the middle which represents the city of Nîmes. It bears as its crown the emblematic Roman monuments of the city: the Arena and the colonnade of the Maison Carree (Roman Temple). The main statue is surrounded by four seated statues and basins that collect water. These four figures, two men and two women, represent four major rivers in the region: the Fontaine de Nîmes, the mother source of the Roman colony, the Gardon, the Fountain of Eure and the Rhône. Each of these representations is identified by its Latin name, engraved on its base: Nemausa, Vardo, Ura and Rhodano.

Nice little museum with some very interesting Dinosaur models and animal taxidermy. Fascinating collection of African tribal spears and shields too. Entrance is free with the Nimes pass which I bought online - well worth the money as entrance to the majority of local attractions and the tourist train is included.
Where A — Google review
Very small, with very little of real interest inside. There is a room filled with cultural items from across Africa and Australia but barely anything is labeled or the few labels that are there are often illegible or hidden. Many exhibits obscure other items of interest by blocking your view. It felt less like a museum and more like a brocante. Some of the taxidermists animals are so poorly finished they're laughable, potentially entertaining enough to warrant a visit. It's hard to recommend that you will find anything worthy of your time here or your money. Overpriced for what is actually on display and the quality of the exhibitions are severely lacking. Keep your money for other attractions.

Ancient Ruins
Nestled in the heart of Nîmes, France, the Porte d'Auguste stands as a magnificent testament to the city's rich Roman heritage. This ancient gateway, named after Emperor Augustus who fortified the town, dates back to the 1st century BCE and served as a crucial entrance through Roman ramparts. Located at the intersection of Boulevard Gambetta and Boulevard Amiral Courbet, it was part of the Via Domitia—the historic road leading to Rome.
One of the two remaining Roman gates in Nîmes, this structure dates back to around 16–15 BCE, during the reign of Emperor Augustus. It was part of the city's ancient fortifications and served as one of its main gates. An inscription commemorates Augustus' gift of the city walls and gates to the citizens. The original city walls once extended approximately 7 kilometers around Nîmes. It marked a major entrance along the historic Via Domitia, the Roman road linking Italy and Hispania.
Seokjin H — Google review
The inscription above the arches reads: "The Emperor Augustus, son of the divine Caesar, consul for the eleventh time, exercising tribunician power for the eighth time, gave the gates and walls to the colony". The construction of the Porte d'Auguste, formerly known as Porte d'Arles, dates back to the 1st century BC. It was one of the main gates of the city and was the entry point of the Via Domitia.

Sadly squeezed in by 2 roads and a in situ building, restricting the gate from view. Also, it's basically unpreserved. So you have to lean in and snap shots. But you are lucky to the original paving stones and blocks are here, so you can imagine what a Roman or serf saw

The Temple de Diane, an impressive ancient Roman monument in Nimes, showcases the architectural and historical significance of the region. Built during the reign of Augustus, it is situated near the 'La Fontaine' spring and was associated with an Augusteum dedicated to emperor veneration. Despite its traditional name, its basilica-like design raises questions about its classification as a temple.
Nestled in the beautiful Park of the Fountain in Nîmes, this ancient Roman structure was interesting and inspirational. One is allowed to explore it and touch it! It is interesting to consult Wikipedia as to its "name"....

Tucked away in the corner of the park, well worth a look around this ancient roman temple.
Yvonne K — Google review
Dating back to the 1st century CE during the reign of Emperor Augustus, this ancient Roman structure was originally part of the Augusteum, a sacred complex dedicated to the imperial cult. It was built near the La Fontaine spring, a site considered sacred since antiquity. Despite its name evoking the Roman goddess Diana, there is little archaeological evidence that it ever served as a temple to her. Scholars suggest it may have functioned instead as a library or a public cultural facility. During the Middle Ages, the building was repurposed for use as a monastery, church, and even a storage site, which helped preserve it from destruction.
Seokjin H — Google review
So amazing to be able to walk right in, location is in a beautiful park. Very special to see such historic spots.
Wendy S — Google review
Really beautiful park with the remains of a “temple” that are partially still standing and big fun to explore. The structure was likely a library not a temple. It is a public park and there’s no entrance fee or ticket needed.

As part of the Jardins and Tour Magne visit it would be foolish to pass this Temple without walking through it was those did Millennia ago!
Paul W — Google review
Roman building from the 1st century. Despite its name, there is no archaeological or literary evidence to indicate that it is a temple or even that it was dedicated to Diana. Rather, it is thought to have been a library. In the Middle Ages it housed a monastery, which explains why it has been partially preserved to this day.

We sat down around 9.40 to eat our meal. All of the unoccupied chairs had already been put up on the tables and we had to take one down again. One of the staff members began crashing the chairs up as people left and noisily emptying the bins. She then walked past our table, looked at how much my husband had still to eat and tutted. At 10 o'clock they put the lights out in the seating area. No one spoke to us. Had this happened in the UK I would have had words with the manager.

Normal pizza for a bit expensive price. The most remarkable point it's a happy hour in drinks from 7:00-7:30 with a 20% discount. Waiters are polite and correct. The price for a pizza and a glass of wine goes to 15-20 euro. Ambient relaxed and open everyday, meaning that is a possible chose if you just need a place to eat something on the go and you don't want to spend time looking around. They speak English too.

Waitress was very kind, but the food we had was horrible. The vegan pizza was just a warm salad with a weird dressing on top of a pizza. The avocado on top was the only nice component... Please think of a new vegan pizza. It also took a bit too long to get our food³.

Waited for atleast one and a half hour and more. Cannot recommend if you are hungry. The staff was friendly but did not do anything to make up for the extremely long wait. (A glass of water is not sufficient) extremely dissatisfied. The food was blend and boring looked and taste like it was off the shelf from the local super market. The bbq sauce tasted like someone dumped his ashtray in the sauce. In my opinion the food were overpriced a lot given the condition and honestly i dont even think my dog would love to eat it. The chef should be ashamed. Sorry for the rude description but not really sorry because it is true. The last thing to mention is the noise inside the restaurant were almost unbearable. I really hope you get a better experience than me and my family.

A very hearty salad bowl. The goat cheese is strong so beware if you're not that into strong cheeses. The waiter is quite fast and forthcoming.

Cocktails from fruits are meant cocktails from sweet artificial siroupe, water and ice. Probably someone may like it, but it should be mentioned in menu. Though in menu cocktail Africa is described like: "passion, citron pamplemousse limonade"... nothing is said about artificial siroupe...This bar is a disappointment, both drinks and service..

We stopped for lunch with a party of 4. I decided to have a salad and chose la forestarie. It had chicken, ham, mushrooms, lettuce and onions. It was so good. I chased it with a bottle and a half of rose. So delicious

Mixed experiences here. The first time we had a conscientious waiter who served the "ancient" hot chocolate requested. Second time a different waiter served what seemed like Nestles' Quick (grainy & sugary) while distracted by being constantly on his cellphone. Not sure we'll return.

Day 4

Off the beaten path
For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Bois des Espeisses. Not quite as popular as Maison Carrée, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

The Bois d'Espeisses nature reserve is a peaceful oasis just outside of the city of Nimes. The park is home to a wide variety of animals and plants, making it perfect for a day spent outdoors.
Flocks of small beautiful dancing midges live here. Bids and their signing are fabulous. Kind of wild park but it is definitely has its own beauty.

The woods are populated with mainly oak trees. It's a quiet and peaceful place to rest your mind and get away from the air and noise pollution of the town.

Nice park / woods on the outskirts of the city of Nîmes. If you wih to go for a nice stroll with the other half, or take your dog for a walk, this is a great spot. Warning! You dont want to get lost or be alone especially when the night starts setting in.

Castles
Castellum Aquae, also known as Castellum divisorium, is a significant Roman site in Nimes that played a crucial role in the city's water distribution system during ancient times. This unassuming structure served as the central point where the city's water supply was collected from aqueducts and then distributed throughout Nimes.
Extraordinary 1st century Roman built
Bogdan I — Google review
The Castellum Aquae of Nîmes was used to redistribute water from the Eure springs brought in by the aqueduct, whose best-known section is the Pont du Gard. Its flow rate has allowed a supply of 1,400 liters (370 gallons) of water per day per inhabitant (today, we each consume 150 liters daily (40 gallons!). The city’s fountains were served first, followed by public buildings (notably but not exclusively the baths) and some private houses. A threshold was set in case of drought in favor of the most essential uses.
Philippe Q — Google review
The English translation: "Water Castle". Although it was known from the texts, it is a rare vestige of this type. Its function was to distribute water to the city. This water was supplied by a 50 km long aqueduct built in the middle of the 1st century A.D. (Augustan period). In times of drought, it guaranteed the security of the water supply and facilitated the evacuation of the city's wastewater. It is known to have been filled in during the construction of the citadel in 1688 and was not rediscovered until 1844 by a private individual who immediately set about uncovering it. There is no entrance fee, you can see it from the sidewalk.
Natalie D — Google review
This is where the aquaduct came and distributed the water to different parts of the city. Roman engineering is amazing!
C R — Google review
Important place in the history of nimes, where the water of the aquaduct entered the city and was distributed by means of 10 lead pipes. The city is a bit out of the city centre and not properly signposted. Use google maps to find it! Top tip: close to the tower and the jardins fontaines, combine the visit!
Jens R — Google review
Interesting relic of Roman engineering, from the end of the aquaduct to lead pipes, no wonder they were crazy
Zene M — Google review
Underwhelming attraction. There's only a sign board in front of the collapsed aqueduct which looks like a pile of rocks. Don't see any tourist around here as well. If you're visiting Nimes it should be okay to skip this attraction.

Forty years as a chef/restaurateur, in NYC and Hawaii, I know a little bit about the business. This is, hands down, one of the best restaurants we've eaten at in France. Food was creative and well executed. Bravo to the young chef. Service was friendly, as well as professional. Ambiance, according to my wife (retired designer) is spectacular. All that alone, would rate five stars, but the owner goes a step further. For those of you, in or were in the business, read the owner's response to some of his negative criticisms. He supports his staff, and for me, that rates an extra star. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Saint Paul Church is a historic neo-Romanesque church built in the 19th century, featuring a high bell tower that stands out at 60 meters tall. The interior boasts colorful frescoes by Hippolyte Flandrin, adding to its charm. Despite being located near a busy street, it offers a peaceful atmosphere for visitors to enjoy. While some may find the architecture dated, others appreciate its unique boat-like design from the 1960s.

Very simple deecoration and a nice one.
Artur V — Google review
Originally established as the parish of Saint Pius in 1791, Catholic services had already been held there since 1771, when the church served the Récollets monastery. The current building was designed by Charles-Auguste Questel, with construction beginning in 1838 and completed in 1849. The architecture blends early Neo-Romanesque and Byzantine elements, reinterpreting 12th-century Romanesque style. It is recognized as one of the first neo-medieval church designs in France and is considered a key example of the 19th-century Neo-Romanesque revival movement.

Restaurant Arena café is a charming spot located in the old town, making it easily accessible no matter which way you wander. The ancient arches of the Arena provide a familiar and anchoring sight within the city. This café stands out as the sole establishment in the vicinity offering food all day, with excellent service and a unique offering of ice coffee.
We had a great time at restaurant Arena cafe. Excellent service, good food, and stunning view. I would recommend to book ahead because it fills up quickly.

On the shady side of the massive and beautiful Arena, this little cafe offered a much needed sit-down for my group. Rose, avec le glacon-dans-le-piscine, followed by some really good ice cream, we chilled out! The owner and her daughter were very sweet, accommodating and pleasant to say the least. If you need a quick break and time to relax in a pretty spectacular setting this could be it.

This place was amazing, we stumbled on this place trying to find an open restaurant when most were closed. The cook opened the kitchen a little early when she heard that we couldn’t find anything open and we were hungry. The food was amazing we had different plates and each dish be was scrumptious. The ribeye, the burger, the fish and chips, and the octopus. Each plate was delicious. So much so we took leftovers to go as the portions were generous. Oh and the staff, the staff could not be friendlier. This was the best restaurant food and dining experience to date.

Horrible experience with the waitress who doesn’t know how to smile greet or even say hello. At one occasion she literally just threw our dish on our table just literally and left. I do not know the need for hurry, there was like only 3 table occupied why the hell she behaved as if she so busy to take a order nicely. We took capuccino, milk shake and a crepe which was okay but this lady made our experience go bad. As soon as we finished she came to our table to check again if we want anything just to hint on that we should leave now. The toilet was not clean and dirty. The only positive thing was the view you get of the arena but this you can get from many restaurant around. Its a tourist trap, please avoid. I wish i saw reviews before sitting here. Every one has same issues with the rude staff.

Le Lisita is a charming brasserie offering a range of delicious gourmet dishes and local wines in a classic dining room with a terrace that overlooks an amphitheater. The restaurant provides a truly spectacular view of the wonderful Arena and offers options such as pork, veal, home-made burgers, and generous salads. The seasonal menus feature delightful dishes like celery remoulade spiked with summer truffles and thyme-infused brandade by chef Olivier Douet.
Adorable little restaurant in front of the Arenas. Very cozy and classy at the same time with reasonable prices considering the quantity and quality of the meals. The foie gras was a delight, the cheese of very good quality too. I particularly recommend the menu that was exceptional in term of variety, balance and once again quality. Glasses of regional wines are also very good.

Absolutely dreadful, a horrible advert for Nines. Waited 30 minutes without anyone coming. Owner came by and smiled.. he said "you will be served soon, I love it when it is busy, we make lots of money!" All in English... the waiter for our area didn't exist. I went in and was told they were all busy and said they weren't responsible for our table. I spoke in English and French. Made no difference. They simply didn't care. We walked out.
Steve F — Google review
The food was soo disappointing. The item was not at all as described, the fish stringy and the sauce too sweet to eat. Instead of the seasonal legumes listed on the menu, the dish came with a pile of overcooked, soggy courgette, also soaked in the overly sweet sauce. It was really quite inedible, sad to say. Quite an anomaly in a town where excellent food is the norm. The food and the location were lovely, however.
Brealyn S — Google review
We had the 3 course lunch for €32 each, and the main course was spectacular. Appetizer was decent, and dessert was good. Cute spot with a direct view of the arena. Service wasn't great, and the dishes took a long time to arrive.
Erick S — Google review
I went there quite late at night (09.00pm, which is late for France) , the place was almost empty, so I didn't have any problem with waiting. The waiter was fast , the food was tasty (a beef tartare), the wine very good, the price OK. The only problem was a group of noisy, uncivilized americans (this seems to be the rule) who behaved as if the place belonged to them. But this of course has nothing to do with the establishment itself.

Christmas dinner was mediocre at best. They tried serving us the wrong meal. Two of what I ordered instead of one of each. They took them back and ten minutes or so later returned with what we ordered. But I'm sure mine was one of the plates they tried bringing earlier, it was barely warm. The foie gras was good, but it's hard to go wrong with that. My husband's steak was tough. My pasta dish with lobster was good, but would have been better hot. When the bill came, they had charged us for two of the pasta dishes. We left no tip, since we were already overcharged for the meal. There isn't much open on Christmas, so beggars can't be choosers. I wouldn't go back again though.

Delicious food..brasserie style, informal, family friendly buzz. Great potential but limited for the moment by overstretched staff. All the waitresses were very friendly and willing to help, warning and apologising for delay - but still a bit disorganized and lacking leadership. The very enterprising and bold brigade of local pigeons were in fact far more organized - and it looked like they were winning during my Sunday lunchtime visit. But still - best prawn tagliatelle I've had in a long time. And my neighbours all enjoyed their meals - special rave from ladies on my right hand side for the caramel beurre salé ice cream... Don't know how I resisted. No wonder the pigeons are trying to take over.

Excellent fine food with recipes inspired by local, Mediterranean or South Western French gastronomy and successfully enhanced by the chef. Fantastic rooftop terrace, very quiet. We called the restaurant to make reservations for this evening (a Thursday when everything is open) but because it was before opening hour the telephone answering machine stated to leave message which we did. Assuming they'd be open (there were no indications otherwise) we went to the restaurant only to find it closed. No signage on the door explaining why, etc. The neighboring restaurant owner said theye been closed all week. They could've stayed that on they answering machine or website, but no, nothing. Incidentally, we are perfectly fluent in French, so language is not a barriers. What a terrible way to run a business.

One of my personal favorites ! The familial atmosphere, Nîmois décor, well-thought dish presentations, unusual yet delicious new tastes (I'm thinking about the garlic and roquette sorbet with balsamic vinegar for my part), one can truly enjoy authentic cuisine here. My advice for those pouting over the price still would be to order the lunchtime specials, which allow for making up one's mind and try out the evening ones for a special occasion. The quantity will satiate the hungriest while the quality will keep the amateurs coming !

We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our meal. It was tasty food presented in a beautiful way. The butternut soup was amazing with the chestnut pieces. And the scallop carpaccio with some sort of magical beet cream was delicious Afterwards the chef dropped by to chat. Both he and the gentleman who served us were friendly.

We were seeking to taste the local special of Camargue beef and it was succulent and delicious as were our entrees of the mussels and tuna. Service was also excellent. And prices very reasonable. Situated in a tranquil courtyard off the main street, Les Magnolias serves an excellent value for money three course menu (other formats are available). I started with chicken wrapped in feuille-de-bric pasty which was essentially a tasty samosa with pulled chicken, mushrooms and vermacelli rice inside. The curry sauce brought a nice foil of sweet spice as well. Duck Shepard's pie was my main and it was very good. Needed more seasoning in the pie itself but really moved up a notch when eaten with the balsamic dressed salad. My partner had a good quality Babette steak with the most excellent chips. The butter sauce was terrific too. Her pain per du dessert was a real showstopper, while my cheeseboard was very enjoyable with cheeses served correctly at room temperature. I Roquefort and goats' cheese were good quality cheeses and I loved the addition on the lavender flowers which added a floral note. They have a cool DVine wine system where you can sample premium wines served always at optimum temperature, which is a brilliant idea and shows their attention to detail. Staff were super friendly also. It's also one of the few places open on a Sunday around here.

Chill ambience outside, great food: had the entrecôte with homemade fries and risotto. Risotto was a bit overcooked but the sauce rochefort made up for it. 2 very friendly waiteresses, one even gave me a smoke at the end. Would definitely go there again, great place in Nîmes

Wonderfully dinner in this vibrant square. Each dish was delicious and was exactly what we looked for, tasty French in a relaxed atmosphere with great service. The salted caramel French toast was amazing, as was the cod in filo pastry and tagliatelle. River
Gardon is a historical site in France that dates back to the first century AD when Nimes, a thriving Roman colony, faced water scarcity. To address this issue, an aqueduct was constructed to transport water from the source of the Eure in Uzes to Nimes, spanning 50 kilometers. This remarkable feat of engineering by the Romans continues to captivate visitors today. The area offers breathtaking views for sunrise and provides a magical setting for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

To honor Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius, the city council of Nîmes dedicated a public square in 1862 at the site of the terminal basin of the Canal de la Fontaine. The landscaping was designed by Henri Révoil, and in 1874, a statue created by Auguste Bosc was installed at its center.

The Musée des Cultures Taurines in Nimes, France offers a fascinating journey into the history and art of bullfighting. The museum features an impressive exhibition of original works including posters by renowned artists such as Arman, Jean Charles Blais, and Claude Viallat. While not large in size, the museum provides an engaging experience with displays ranging from matchboxes depicting bullfighting to exquisite 'Habits de Lumiere.'
An incredible small museum, beautifully set up to showcase fascinating materials about bullfighting. You don’t have to like bullfighting to appreciate the artwork, the storytelling, and the elegance of the displays.

3 years in a row we tried to visit and it is always closed to the public. We finally found out a couple hours ago through the tourism office it only opens between the 2 Férias....meaning it is closed to tourists practically 6 months per year and there is no notice of it through Google ! Too bad !

A must-see! (Original) Beau musée, quelles collections diverses! Accueillis à chaque étape de la visite, l'histoire nous a plus et surtout nous a aidé à comprendre le monde de la tauromachie . (Translated by Google) A disgrace, run away. A resident of Nîmes, I pay 10 euros. Less than 15 costumes for the great exhibition. Less varied than usual. No entertainment, just one beautiful room upstairs. One costume every 10 meters. Lousy!! Camargue room and Landes course, always the same. It's really over the top. Instead of enhancing the costumes, they just remove the display cases. A failure, expensive and disappointing. The museum's collections must have tons of fascinating objects. Too modern is bad for the one who created the exhibition.

(Translated by Google) A clean and well-maintained museum with many costumes and paintings; some completely ordinary, not to say vulgar, but others truly superb, especially on the first floor, which is full of both watercolor and oil paintings. Four magnificent dynamic shots crown the richness of the visit. A mini-lecture on the ground floor seemed interesting, but the seating arrangement made the audience's comfort precarious.

Very interesting museum for a 5 euro entrance fee. The personnel were very kind and helpful. Some of the floors of the building were as amazing as the displays. The origin of Denim has its own room to show how it originated in Nimes and has evolved. (De Nimes = Denim). It's on two floors and as I recall there is no lift which is unfortunate for many people but I suppose it's good to know that before you begin your visit.

Italian restaurant
La Piazzetta is a modern Italian restaurant located in Nimes, France. It offers a variety of traditional Italian dishes such as antipasti, pizza, pasta, and mains. The restaurant features a modern ambiance with two large terraces for outdoor dining. Guests have praised the warm welcome from the staff and the accommodating service. The owner, Nicola, is known for personally attending to guests and creating a friendly atmosphere.
Lovely restaurant in a charming setting, overlooking a beautiful square and fountains. The menu is quite extensive offering appetizers, salads, red and white pizzas, many kinds of pasta as well as some meat and seafood options. We ordered a salad, creatively served inside a crisp parmiggiano basket, with arugula, fresh buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes, and balsamic drizzle. We also split a Regina Pizza, which comes topped with ham and mushrooms. Everything was delicious and service was gracious and efficient. Will be back!

Nice place, little bit loud, but ok. Friendly service, good and tasty italian food (and believe me, this is very rarely in France). Carpaccio was a fresh meet, pizza in roman style, fresh made pasta with a generous quantity of mussels. Wine list average, but give you choice between French and Italian wines. On weekends better make reservation.

Oh my. Warm welcome. Lovely food. It’s just easy - just what you want after a long day. House red was better than a glass of expensive red yesterday. My husband’s pappardelle alla tirolese, he said was superb as was my tagliata de boeuf. Fabulous.

We were made to feel very welcome from arrival. The lady at the front of house managed to fit my wife and I plus our Spaniel in a very nice inside table with views of the square and fountain. The food was incredible and well served with a bottle of wine she recommended and very reasonably priced. The owner, Nicola, was going from table to table, including ours, making everyone feel like friends even though it was extremely busy. He also saw us out and thanked us for visiting. You must visit but make sure you make a reservation as its always full apparently. 5 stars..

Amazing place with a lovely atmosphere and ambience. The staff is very friendly. Price are really good and the quality is excellent. I recommend the “Unglet de veau” and the “Mouse au chocolat”. The wine from the Nîmes is perfect for the meal. Definitely I will come back here whenever I’m in this city.

We had lunch here after visiting the Arena. It was a charming place. We had the beef tartare (surf and turf version, beef and smoked fish), grilled marinated beef on skewers, veal and duck hearts. Everything was good. Our waitress was always smiling and sometimes she sang. They were very friendly and competent. The place seems to get a good number of locals too. A very good sign!

Skip the restaurant in the Museum Romanité and come here instead (it’s right across the street)! We came for lunch and it was one of the best meals we had in all of Nîmes. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing lunch. The œufs mimosas were delicious and the tartare was mouth-watering. The veal steak was also absolutely perfect. Don’t miss the crème brûlée for dessert!
