Our tour was just incredible! Ana was our guide and Sebastien was our driver. They were simply amazing and so knowledgeable. I thought I knew a lot about WWII until Ana shared some amazing stories and facts on our tour. Highly recommend!!!

It was amazing, well designed and very interesting. There’s also a bunker and a special price for students (€6). Many interesting displays are worth seeing, and I would definitely recommend visiting this place.

Fabulous museum. Excellent presentation of the historical path leading to WW2 and the subsequent events, not only in Europe but across the world. Balanced and even handed treatment of the role played by all sides (good and bad). Good blend of objects, images, videos and textual explanation. Perfect closure to a few days visiting the historical sites of the area. Highly recommended.

This is “THE” Normandy to take. Private tour with our wonderful guide Lena. Very knowledgeable and so informative. If you don’t want headphones and don’t want to read every placard this is the best way to get the Normandy experience. Even if you are not a WWII buff or into WWII history you will really enjoy this tour. I highly recommend it.

This was a very enjoyable and informative tour of the D-Day landing beaches. Our guide, Oliver, had great knowledge and had a very interesting way of telling the vast history surrounding the whole area.

Very impressive stretch of gardens, fields, overlooks and trails. There are farm animals, mini golf, an ice cream shop and a small cafe in the park, even a par cour course for children. It's just lovely and I would highly recommend a visit.

Free parc. Love the inclusive playground. Subtheme in little pieces of the parc like viking/asgard garden. Maze is fun to do with young kids. Everything was very neat.

Peaceful and beautiful park with animals, flowers, roses, greenery, fountains and views. Car park right next to it, there is a mini golf and toilets also. We really enjoyed and think if we would like close by this place would be our reading, chilling spot for sure.

Great park to learn about the environmental issues. The whole park has been built on a waste dump site. Now, it is covered by trees, roses and vegetation, but below it is full of plastic bottles, glass, cans. There is a great demonstration area about the history, and a cross section of the waste below. Otherwise, the park offers a great panorama view on Caen, has a little farm with animals, unfortunately no direct access to the animals for feeding and touching. There is a nice playground, and several tracks for walking. The car traffic nearby is high at one side of the park, but inside it ok. There no protected bike lanes to reach it, but at least there is a bike parking in front of it. If you are visiting Caen as a tourist, I think this is a must see experience to learn about current environmental issues. And a great place for children to run around, play, and see some animals.

Hugely impressed with this park. Hadn't realised it's origins until I was reading about how the site was previously the council dump. Absolutely worth a visit with the kids. Many different things to see... including dipping your feet into the fountain to cool down. The views are great and the gardens are very well maintained.

I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! The food was top-notch and the service was exceptional. The planned menu with wine is a must-try, and definitely worth the price. The staff were very knowledgeable about the dishes and made sure that everything was explained thoroughly. The atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming, making it a great choice for special occasions or a night out. Although parking can be a bit tricky, it's well worth the effort. A simply amazing experience! We had the 4 course "surprise" menu and every single item (including the amuse bouche) was a memorable. The locally sourced lamb course was both excellent and very creative as was the fish (lieu jaune prepared in a sushi style with courgette sauce and quinoa). Make no mistake, you are at the frontiers of taste here. Add in the flawless and very welcoming service, the excellent wine list, and the beautifully restored dining room and you have one of the best addresses in all Normandy (and perhaps in all of France). Very much recommended. We hope to return -- often.

This is a "must go" place. We chose the planned menu with wine, which came out about 60Euro. 5 on the menu but it's actually 7 courses. AMAZING food, and the staff are so wonderful. The chef made sure that the food came out right in time so that we have a steady flow and none got cold, etc. For the price, the menu is way worth more than its costs!

Not much of a castle but mostly ruins and some wall and courtyard structures still standing along with some minarets. A nice place for a hangout and picnic during the nice weather! This was a quick visit and free as well.

Inside, there are several playgrounds for children and a nice park with benches where you can relax and rest. Within the walls, you’ll also find a café and a museum, and you can walk along the entire rampart. From the tower, you can enjoy a wonderful view of Caen from above.

A wonderful experience which is free. The castle grounds are extensive and the view from the towers is spectacular. There are several art installations in the grounds including a Rodin. A good shop and also a nice restaurant

This historic site is really interesting with it having a medieval castle ( with its walls still being mostly intact) and a museum to look around. I really enjoyed looking around and being able to have a first person experience with one of Caens most historic landmarks. The views of the city below are beautiful with you being able to see miles in every direction. Would definitely recommend for lovers of history.

I don't know who was in charge of placing the museum entrance to the other side of the main building where you can't find it, not too smart. I mean seriously how much income are you losing because you're hiding THE FRONT DOOR!? I was ready to buy a ticket when I entered the building that looks like it should be the entrance to the museum, but I was abruptly brushed off with "Go to the other entrance on the other side." I looked for it, I could not find it. So I kept my money in my pocket and look at all the ancient buildings and the un-celebrated RODIN modestly hanging out by the path. I had just paid a lot to see his creations at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and it was awesome to see Rodin's Working Man sculpture right there out in the open. The 2000 year old buildings were great and the many benches and wide Open spaces were relaxing as a public park. Mid afternoon, there was a cafe but it wasn't open. If I were the Mairie of Caen paying these people, I wouldn't. Their incompetence and lack of people skills is costing money that you could use to pay better employees.

Large castle on a hill in the centre of the city. Nice to walk around (free entry and open until 22:30). There are some museums inside as well.

Was really surprised we were able to access the castle at anytime, it is a beautiful place to wander around and look over the city from atop the walls! Well looked after, great stop when in Caen!

Free access to the park, (botanical) gardens and greenhouse with tropical and exotic plants. There is also a giant sequoia tree (near the botanical institute). Perfect place for a picnic or a moment of rest. It is a short walk from Caen Castle (less than a kilometer) or from city center (bit more than a kilometer). We enjoyed our visit here and recommend it.

Gorgeous park, free entrance! There are a lot of spots where you can do a little picnic, or to sit and enjoy the peace. Incredible enough, at the heart there is a very big greehouse which contains tropical plants from different regions. It is divided in different sections and these sections are regulated independently in heat and humidity. (Make sure you can easily remove your jacket...you have been warned....). All of this hidden behind the simple name: Gardens of Caen. Very much recommend!! **Locals: there were many adults and children there, so it must be a favourite educational spot.

I love this museum. If your agre below 29 years old is free but if your age above it, the entrance fee is €3, 5. I visited with friend and the have a lot of collections and it amazed me bc some of their collection since 1500 years ago

I visited with my partner,sadly the castle was covered in scaffolding and not accessible, but the art museum was v interesting, kindly staff helping with lifts for my disability. Lots to see and a vibrant atmosphere.

My visit to the Musee Des Beaux-Arts was just perfect, in fact I returned the next day to take a second look (ticket runs for 48 hours) What a collection. Also the building is so well designed it fits right in with the artwork display. Excellent collection of ‘Local Art’ too.

An excellent theatre with incredibly uncomfortable seating. My partner is 6 ft and has a knee replacement and there is insufficient room between rows to accommodate his legs. Sad

The staff is nice, it is really easy to get informations and there is always someone to show your your seat. Shows are of quality.

The reviews did not lie! Great place for steak and one of the best Steak Tartare's I've had and I have them all over the place travelling. Service was really good for us and service charge is not added on the bill as it's wrapped up in the menu but you can leave a tip your discretion ( we did as the service was great). We were in Caen for 24 hrs and went back for lunch the next day just for the tartare ! Coming from Guernsey, we found the prices very reasonable.

We absolutely loved our dinner at Beouf & Cow in Caen! Booking a table online was quick and easy (I’d definitely recommend doing so), and as a really nice touch, the restaurant even phoned to reconfirm on the day - in English too so you don't have to worry that you regret taking German instead at school. It’s a stylish, modern steakhouse with options for every budget. whether you’re after an affordable cut or want to splash out on the wagyu or even Kobe. The menu is extensive, and if you love beef, you’ll be spoilt for choice. A small note for fellow English speakers: the English menu is written with a lot of American phrasing, which doesn’t always translate perfectly for other English speakers - we found ourselves glancing at the French menu with a smile to double check what was what 😂 We started with a selection of sharing tapas so everyone could try a bit of everything. They arrived beautifully on a wooden plancha with bread. Highlights were definitely the beef tartare (an absolute musttry) and the dauphinoise balls with curry sauce... Perfect for us as big curry lovers. For mains, we ordered a range of steaks - ribeye, filet, onglet, and sirloin, and every single one was cooked perfectly. (Tip: in France, if you usually order medium rare, you might want to go one level up, as steaks here tend to be served a touch pinker than elsewhere.) I had the onglet, which is one of my favourite cuts but rarely found on menus, and it was incredible! Robust, beefy flavour and so good. Desserts were just as good, the fruit with apple sorbet was refreshing after a rich meal, while the table side caramelised crème brûlées stole the show with a bit of theatre. Still being talked about. Drinks were also delish with a wide wine list ranging from affordable to indulgent. We especially loved their twist on a Moscow Mule, made with calvados instead of vodka - delicious and very Normandy! Service throughout was excellent. I know some reviews mention brusque service, but we felt it was simply cultural differences in directness; for us, everything was warm, attentive, and very professional. If you’re in Caen, you really should make time for Beouf & Cow. Whether you go for the set menu at lunch or dinner, or treat yourself to wagyu or Kobe, you’ll have a fantastic experience. Weekend in Caen with friends, we visited this place on strength of reviews and we weren’t disappointed! The food was beautifully cooked delicious cuts of the best steaks around. The staff friendly and really great service. The price, extremely reasonable for the quality and size of offer. It was so good we immediately booked in for the next night! The mixed planche of steak was a favourite, but the à la carte steaks were also amazing! Highly recommended!

If you like beef, you should go to that place. It's a cozy restaurant located in the center of Caen. They have an attractive two- and three-course lunch and dinner menu. It's great value for money and worth a stop :) Make sure to reserve a table, as it's always packed.

We had an excellent experience at Boeuf and Cow. We had booked for July but unfortunately had to cancel due to illness so I was delighted to have another opportunity. We received a warm welcome from all the staff and were seated promptly by a window as I had requested. It was a beautiful view although a rainy evening. We chose the Menu de Terroir at 35 Euros for three courses. There was plenty of choice. Both starters were delicious and unusual. Then we both had the bavette steak cooked au point. The meat was tender and juicy, the frites perfectly cooked and the sauces delicious. For dessert I chose tarte tatin. I asked the waiter if it was well caramelised and he said ‘a little’. I was surprised that it was delivered flaming and obviously that added to the caramelisation. Excellent. My husband chose the chocolat mi-cuit and that was runny in the centre, just perfect. All in all an excellent meal to round off our lovely trip to France.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. Good food and English-speaking, attentive/fun staff. It’s on Rue du Vaugueux à Caen which is the medieval street full of eateries by the castle. We discovered the owners used to run one of the restaurants opposite which we had eaten at a few years ago.

It’s rare for me to write a review. Either something went terribly wrong or wonderfully right. In this case it’s happily the latter. Hats off to this small restaurant and the team that took care of my wife and me. From the greeting, the ambiance, to the exceptional service to the intriguing menu, within French traditional cuisine. The fresh produce was thoughtfully blended to allow the subtile qualities of each ingredient shine through. A nicely accompanied wine list and option of pairing made the meal an exceptional experience. In France, there’s no lack of great cuisine but great service can be hard to find without a Michelin Star and the price tag to go with it. Congratulations to a great team! Chapeau!!

The best dinner place in Caen!! Very busy but the staff is very nice and good in English, also quick. The food was excellent! I ordered pork cheeks and my bf ordered salmon - we loved it! Because the portions are not very big we ordered a dessert with it. Visiting this restaurant was our best decision for the evening.

If you want to have THE ABSOLUTE BEST food experience in Caen, then you DEFINITELY should try this restaurant. The food was just amazing! It just shows what you can do with food when you take it as an art work. I had salmon with dill sauce (twice in two days!!!!) and it was just simply wonderful. All the flavours were just so well put together and all of them were really delicate and they just complimented each other very very well. And not even mentioning the staff, they are very, very kind and nice. (And they speak english very well aswell :D) Overall, 11/10 in my opinion. Definitely would recommend. Merci!

I have mixed feelings. Food is good, with a mixture of flavours, tastes and sense emotions. We didn't get the full menu so we probably missed some bits. Service and wine was... Strange. It was not easy to know eventually if the wine was the one we ordered. On the bad side, reading the chef self description in the bathroom was not helping at all (both location and text) and, definitely, is overpriced. So it's a good concept with a little bit more of selfishness than desired.

Excellent experience at l'Accolade at the end of July. We ordered the 7 mouvements menu and it was absolutely delicious from beginning to end. The atmosphere is quite relax and calm (understand : not noisy which is a massive plus). Impeccable service and top notch dishes. Lovely associations and creativity. Stunning plates to look at as well! It was colourful, tasty, classy and not over the top which is always appreciated. Thank you!

We could find a reservation at short notice and we’re delighted to have chosen l’accolade. The six-course menu was delicate, balanced, diverse, and delicious. The menu is blind so you won’t ow what you’ll be eating. We’ve added a photo of ours which will give you a some idea of what to expect-but it really depends on the ingredients of the day. Come with an open mind and you’ll leave having tasted new, interesting flavours and ingredients. Service was excellent 👌🏽 the portion sizes were generous for a chic restaurant. We left feeling satisfied and very full. TOP!

The food was inconsistent. Many courses of the 7 lacked true flavor. The one excellent course was the beet salad. Meat course cold and chewy. White beans had thought dried mushrooms instead of succulent ones. Bread and butter were fab but that does not make a great meal Wonderful use of unusual herbs however adds the third star

A wonderful meal in charming surroundings furnished with vintage pieces and menu chalk boards. The host was very friendly and we had genial conversations in Franglais! He speaks very good English and was quick to spot our Nationality as we mangled our French vocab. The lamb shank (souris d'agneau) was very good, the bread served with it was the most delicious I've had in five years of living in France. Our desserts were delectable. Very good prices too, our meal didn't break the bank. Fixed menu plats between 18 and 22 euros for two courses and a full choice menu with everything below 25 euros. We parked in the cleanest underground car park ever, with bright lights and music playing, just around the corner, and the ticket was just 1.50e for the evening. A lovely experience in Caen, highly recommended.

I recently dined at Mooky's in Caen and had an exceptional experience. The atmosphere was fun and unique, with vintage furnishings and chalkboard menus. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive, providing excellent service throughout the evening. I particularly enjoyed the gratin de raviole and tataki de thon, both of which were flavorful and expertly prepared. For dessert, I opted for the gourmand, a small version of four desserts off the menu, and was not disappointed. The prices were reasonable, with a fixed menu starting at 18 euros for two courses and a full choice menu with everything under 25 euros. The restaurant also sells charcuterie and cheese, adding to the French culinary experience. The owner was friendly and spoke perfect English, making it a great option for tourists. Overall, I had a fantastic evening at Mooky's and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Caen.

We'd been up since 3am, traveling in from another country, and were looking forward to an early dinner at this highly recommended restaurant. Although the place had many open tables, the matre'd looked us up and down and asked if we had reservations. We did not. "Not possible." Tomorrow night? "Not possible." The look we got was, "it would never be possible." We were dressed casually from our travels, but not slovenly. Dress, Americans, lack of ability to speak French, you pick the reason for the snub. I can't review the food or atmosphere, but I can definitely review the service.

We visited this abbey on our way from Étretat to Mont Saint-Michel Castle — it’s definitely a place worth including in your Normandy itinerary. Entrance to the abbey is paid, but access to the church itself is free. The church is located to the right of the main entrance. Parking is convenient — right under the abbey.

One of the must-see sites in Caen is the Abbaye aux Hommes, a former men’s abbey with centuries of history and an example of the blend of Norman Romanesque and early Gothic architectural styles. This abbey, founded in the 11th century, is one of the main attractions of the city of Caen and functions as a parish church. Part of the abbey has been transformed into a museum where visitors can learn about the history and architecture of the complex. The abbey, like several other historic buildings, is part of the campus of the University of Caen, creating a blend of history and modern academic life. Come here as early as you can and allow 4 hours for the visit if you want to read every sign. Its absolutely worth it as you learn so so much. You learn about William the Conqueror, about Caen in Dday, about the high school that was once here. You can see the ruins from the bombings in the nearby buildings across the Abbaye. Lots of information provided and difficult to imagine what was once happening here.

I've seen this building last year for gala dinner held by horse genome project 2024. That was stunning with wall painting and colors.

The exhibition is not foreign tourist friendly. The information about the paintings and other things are all in French! I understand that museum is located in France. But do you expect that every tourist coming to Caen for a couple of days who wants to learn about French history, culture and art will know French language?

A solid, no-nonsense museum about Normandy’s history and culture. Lots of artifacts from prehistory to modern times, but nothing that’ll leave you stunned. More of a quiet detour than a must-see — great if you’re into history, or just need a break from the crowds. Nice enough, just don’t expect fireworks.

Relatively small but informative museum. It was about the Caen area through the ages and had some interesting artifacts (found the hand made lace very interesting) for English speakers only some of the information is provided in English but if you know how to use Google lens you'll be fine.

Normally I don't visit on site museums but I decided to visit this one and was not disappointed . There was lots to see and also much more than simple art. Lots to discover about the history of Normandy and William the Conqueror in particular.

A quiet place for reflection

At first glance, it looks like a regular church. Then you notice it’s leaning — thanks to the lovely idea of building on marshy ground. Normandy’s answer to Pisa, just without the crowds. Inside it’s simple but atmospheric, with modern stained glass giving it an unexpected mood. It’s not a tourist magnet, and maybe that’s why it feels so genuine. And hey, even if the architecture doesn’t wow you, the tilt probably will.

The Leaning Church of Caen! How on earth is this Church not falling down? Its clearly a significant lean to the structure: and its a LARGE structure. It almost looks like it started to lean during construction, since many pillars correct the lean a bit up their length. Amazing!

I recently acquired an original drawing by Samuel Prout, was looking at the street view and the images posted and realised why the beautiful buildings were no longer there. Destroyed in World War 2. Please see the an attached photo of the drawing of how Saint-Jean used to look in the early part of the 19th Century. Enjoy.

Very early Churvh established by William the Conqueror because he married his cousin, Matilda ( 1st cousin??? Not sure): the Pope listened to the politics, and decided it was a good time to show his Strength and threatened to Annull the Marriage. So William, being Saavy, build 2 Churches ( Hommes & Dames) and forced the Pope to Honor the marraige. The pope didn't realize this Church & Hommes would last over 1000 years & solidify the Memory of Brave Will the Conqueror, while few remember the name of that Pope whats-his-face. Well Done Will!

Beautiful Location that is enriched in authentic paints, murals and sculptures. Abbaye aux Dames de Caen was peaceful and a location you can visit to reflect. The architectural detail is fabulous. Would recommend visiting if you go to Caen.

Stunning. A must-see if you are in Caen. Don't miss the adjacent gardens, which are also free to enter. There is a large cedar tree, and great views from here over the city. When I visited there was an art exhibition on in the Abbey. Part of the Abbey dates back to 1060.

Amazing restaurant. We had the menu saveur with the paired wines and every course was delicious. The staff were attentive but we never felt rushed (we were in there nearly 3 hours). It's not a cheap place but that's no surprise with the quality of the food and the restaurant as a whole.

First of all, the staff was very friendly and helpful in explaining the different types of tasting menu. We chose the Incognito Tasting Menu which was interesting. Honestly, the experience was quite disappointing. The dessert was excellent but the appetizers were far too salty and the entree of white fish was really bland and served with cold vegetables. The main of St. Jacques was well cooked but nothing exciting. The service was smothering at times and the waiters visited our table almost every 5 minutes which killed the atmosphere and interrupted our conversations.... at one point I was still chewing the food in my mouth when she removed my plate & then she stood there waiting. My partner still had his appetiser on the plate & was chewing, she said "I'm waiting to take your plate" so he was forced to take the remaining food in his hand. Not really good service and far too efficient, just felt like even though the restaurant was quiet, they were in a rush to get people out. I'm surprised this is a star restaurant and would not return.
