Nafplio in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Nafplio, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Nafplio is one of Greece’s most picturesque seafront towns, known for its neoclassical mansions, marble-paved squares, and romantic waterfront promenade. The city is crowned by the imposing Palamidi Fortress and overlooks the small island castle of Bourtzi, both offering sweeping views of the Argolic Gulf. Visitors can wander a compact old town filled with cafes, boutiques, and historic churches, and use Nafplio as a base for day trips to major archaeological sites like Mycenae and Epidaurus. Its mix of history, coastal scenery, and relaxed atmosphere makes it a popular weekend and holiday escape for both locals and international travelers.
With favorites like Akronafplia's Castle, Komboloi Museum, and Arvanitias, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like BYRON HOTEL and Menta Resto Bar so you can get the best taste of Nafplio while you’re here. Fortress
Sights & Landmarks
Castle
Palamidi is a Venetian-built fortress located on a hill, offering stunning sea views and accessed by 857 winding steps. It overlooks the historic port city of Nafplio, which was once the first capital of independent Greece. The fortress is a remarkable example of Venetian fortification architecture and was constructed in just three years during the early 18th century.
Beautiful! We took the Ho-Ho up and the stairs down. The view from above of both the newer part of town and the old part is very good. There’s a small cafe where you can buy fresh juice or bottled drinks/water and snacks near the stairs.
Gita — Google review
Beautiful views from the top, the panoramas are really worth it. Unfortunately, the site itself is poorly maintained, not really visitable inside, and the €20 entrance fee is absolutely too much. I’m giving it 3 stars mainly because of the price – €5–10 would be more appropriate considering the limited access and its recent history.
Pasquale M — Google review
A fantastic place to visit in Nafplio! The view from the top is absolutely stunning, especially when the water around the town turns that beautiful blue-green turquoise shade. There are several viewpoints around the fortress, so take your time to walk around and enjoy the different perspectives. There’s also a small café inside for a quick break. You can either climb up the famous stairs or drive up — both options are worth it. The only downside is that the ticket price feels a bit high, but overall, it’s definitely worth the visit for the view alone!
Sothy U — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous views and a very impressive fortress. The architecture and preservation is amazing. We had so much fun exploring and there seemed to be a new view around every corner. I was surprised they even had a little snack cafe’ in the main area and it appeared they were working on some sort of museum as well. Oh…bring good shoes with traction. You’ll thank me later.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5-Star Review for Palamidi Fortress (Nafplio) Palamidi Fortress is absolutely stunning and one of the most impressive historic sites I’ve visited in Greece. The view from the top is breathtaking — you can see the entire town of Nafplio, the sea, and the surrounding mountains. It’s worth every single step of the climb (or drive up if you prefer). The fortress itself is massive, beautifully preserved, and full of history. You can easily spend a couple of hours exploring the different bastions, tunnels, and stone pathways. Every corner has a different perspective and photo opportunity. It’s peaceful, scenic, and gives you a real sense of Greek history and architecture. Whether you hike up the 999 steps or drive to the entrance.
Arash — Google review
Awesome view of the city of Nafplio from the firetress on top of the hill. The foretress itself is well built and has some interesting stories behind it.
Li L — Google review
The fortress is an impressive place with amazing views over Nafplio and the sea. The history and atmosphere are truly worth experiencing. However, the entrance fee (20€ per person) feels a bit high, especially since there’s no museum or additional exhibition inside. It takes no time at all to climb the stairs, but walking down the road will take you about an hour.
Maria B — Google review
The Palamidi Fortress, a grand and impressive Venetian fortress, is nestled on the crest of a high hill overlooking Nafplio. A must-see sight, it feels like a never-ending structure that sprawls across most of the hill. It’s a top destination to visit if you’re nearby, as exploring it and learning about its rich history can take two hours or more. You can access it by climbing 913 steps from the town of Nafplio or by car/taxi, which brings you directly to the fortress entrance, where parking is available. We recommend arriving early, as the parking fills up quickly. The fortress also offers free public restrooms, a bar, and a museum shop.

Greek restaurant
Restaurant
Pidalio Tavern, located in Pronia of Nafplio, is a traditional yet contemporary restaurant offering carefully prepared mezzes and mains with modern twists. The menu features a mix of traditional and contemporary flavors, ensuring a delightful gastronomic experience. While the decor may be more traditional, the attention to detail in food preparation is evident. It's easy to overindulge due to the tempting array of dishes.
Run, don’t walk, to this place! All dishes were superb and good value. Eggplant puree in the breaded octopus is to die for - Grape beans salad: generous sharing portions. The cream cheese and yogurt mix + honey made the mouthfeel luxurious while not being overly rich - Grilled veg: the veggies were grilled nicely, and it was accompanied by a slightly fruity, mustard sauce which was nice. My only con was that the portions could be larger - Breaded octopus with eggplant puree and caramelized onion puree: oh my gosh I could eat this dish all day. The octopus was meaty and tender. Both purées were excellent. But the eggplant puree was slightly sweet and smoky without being overpowering. It went well with everything - Grilled meat platter (small): this came with four types of meat, a lemony sauce, and mustard. The beef patty was my favourite as it was well seasoned and had sweet onion bits inside. The sausage was also delicious. The pork had a great char flavour. The chicken was very large portion but could be slightly more moist - House white wine: aromatic like a Riesling. Perfectly drinking Kormos was the complimentary dessert per person. The biscuits were nice and crunchy, contrasting from the richer surroundings. Not too sweet Total came to €65 for 4 people

This is a wonderful restaurant with a consistently high standard of food and service. For our meal, we enjoyed a Greek salad, tsatziki, and fresh bread, followed by three main courses of fish and seafood. We paired this with two glasses of Iris red wine. The service was very professional, yet friendly and genuinely helpful. A complimentary dessert was provided — it was simple but very tasty and perfectly complemented our dinner. The prices are not cheap, but they are more than reasonable for the quality. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant.
Uri Z — Google review
One of the most delicious meals I’ve had and really enjoyed everything we had. We tried the grilled octopus, the Giosa with slow cooked lamb, eggplant saganaki. The fish of the day (sea bream) was so fresh and tasty and more than enough for 2 people. The cocktail was unique.
Arash K — Google review
Amazing food. A really surprising standard from quite an assuming taverna on a main road. They had a page of specialties and the slow cooked lamb came presented as if it were a Michelin restaurant. The garlic foam was so punchy but it worked really well to eat together with the lamb and smoked aubergine. The desert was similarly complex and clever. Big portions and perhaps a bit rich overall, but so good.
Robert P — Google review
The Good: Exceptionally fresh vegetables in the Greek salad, high-quality feta, and an elegant presentation. The smoked Metsovo cheese donuts were excellent — rich, slow-smoked sheep cheese perfectly balanced with fig jam and a silky ricotta mousse. The Bad: Everything was well-made but played it a bit too safe. Tasty, yet lacking any bold twist or originality. The Ugly: No fresh calamari available, only frozen, so we passed. The Beautiful: You can sense real care in the ingredients and plating, and the use of Metsovo cheese gives it a distinct local soul. Conclusion: A restaurant that knows its craft and respects its ingredients, but could use a spark of imagination to truly stand out.

My favourite meal from my two weeks in Greece. The octopus was cooked well, and the eggplant was a nice pairing. The horta tasted like something my grandma would make - comforting and tasty. Ended with a complimentary drink and dessert, which was a nice touch. Highly recommend.

Our best dinner in Greece so far after 2 weeks and 6 towns. Staff super friendly and helpful. Relaxing, tasty and enjoyable! Even a free traditional Greek dessert!

Based on reviews I should have enjoyed it more. tempura cod was dry and not fresh as purported with all their fish. Service - I think they all liked their phones better than their jobs.

Paralia Arvanitias

Beach
Paralia Arvanitias is a beautiful shoreline consisting of sand and rocks, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. The location offers parking spaces, toilets, and a restaurant nearby. A scenic seaside promenade surrounds the Nafplion Peninsula with reddish flagstones that lead to terraces filled with vegetation at intervals.
Great little beach. Spots to lay on the concrete which is better than the rocks. Clean, clean water. Toilets were filthy with no paper. No shops/snack bar open on late April unfortunately.
Ashleigh A — Google review
Beautiful beach, easy to get to, plenty of free parking. There are toilets, showers and changing areas. You can rent the sun beds with umbrellas, and there's a bar&food place. After 6pm they play loud music, quite festive to watch the sunset. Note there's no sand, is a rock beach, still beautiful do!
Carla M — Google review
Oh my god, what a divine place! We visited after seeing the Venetian fortress, and what immediately caught our attention was the stunning, clear turquoise water. There’s a spacious parking area located just above the beach, which is super convenient. From there, a set of stairs leads you down to the beach and several beach cafés. You can rent an umbrella at the cafés with a minimum consumption of €15. The view is absolutely breathtaking—the surrounding mountains, mirror-like water, and rocky backdrop create a scene straight out of a postcard. If you don’t want to rent an umbrella, you can look for shade near the wall or bring your own. However, since the beach is quite rocky, you’ll need an umbrella pole that can handle impact. The water is crystal clear, very warm, and perfect for swimming. Small children should stay in the shallow area right in front of the beach for safety. If you have snorkeling gear, definitely bring it! Near the rocks, it feels like swimming in an aquarium—there are so many different species of fish, and they’re not afraid to come close. It’s surreal. You can also jump into the water from some of the rocks. Facilities include toilets, cold water showers, and changing cabins. This is definitely one of our favorite places in Nafplio and the entire Peloponnese!
Dilyana P — Google review
A small but beautiful pebbly beach, framed by the picturesque cliffs and backdrop of the city. Despite having a beach bar nearby, it felt relatively quiet and peaceful. Facilities like showers and changing rooms are available, but the true highlight is the crystal-clear, stunning water—easily one of the best moments of my visit to Nafplio. Tip: Bring your own snacks, drinks, towels, and swimming shoes for extra comfort.
D A — Google review
Beautiful beach with crystal-clear waters and good facilities Paralia Arvanitias is one of the best spots in Nafplio for a relaxing swim, sunbathing, or simply enjoying the view. The beach itself is a mix of small pebbles and sand, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and pine trees. The water here is incredibly clean, clear, and calm—perfect for swimming or just floating and soaking in the beauty of the surroundings. You can also snorkel near the rocks where the underwater visibility is excellent. One of the best things about this beach is the beachfront restaurant, which serves really good food, coffee, drinks, and snacks. If you order something from the restaurant, you get free access to sunbeds and umbrellas, which makes a big difference especially on hot days. The service is friendly and efficient, and the view from the seating area is amazing—right on the water with a panoramic view of the sea. There are also a cold water showers next to the changing cabins, and restrooms nearby, and everything is well maintained except the restrooms. It’s a small beach, so it can get crowded in peak season, but if you come earlier in the morning, it’s a peaceful and beautiful place to spend a few hours. Whether you’re a tourist visiting Nafplio or a local looking for a convenient and picturesque spot to relax, Arvanitias Beach is definitely worth a visit. The combination of great swimming, good food, free sunbeds with service, and that unbeatable view makes this beach a favorite.

The War Museum Nafplio is a three-level building located on Amalias Street, showcasing an exceptional collection of items related to various historic events. These include the Greek War of Independence, the Macedonian Struggle, the Balkan Wars, and both World Wars. The museum features unique exhibits such as a rich collection of photographs that bring these historic events to life. Additionally, it houses a national flag from a WWII Greek military unit that fought against Italian and Albanian forces.
Very interesting small museum highlighting the War of Greek Independence and the German occupation of Greece during World War 2. The admission fee is 3 Euros. The building has steep stairs and I didn't notice if there was an elevator. It's a very old building, You may have to ask. Give it a look.

A small, but rich museum with a lot of objects, documents and images related to the Independence War and WWII. You can also watch a very interesting movie on the topic, with English subtitles. The building itself is very nice and the staff is really polite and welcoming.

If you’re a history lover, you’ll enjoy this museum. There’s a soldier at the entrance and if you need any help he’ll do. The entrance fee was 3€. It is made of 2 floors, 1st for WWI, and 2nd for WWII. There are photos (with explanations and english translation), a movie on a TV that explains everything, uniforms, arms, and more.
Antonella L — Google review
Great small museum that covers Greek military engagements from the war of independence through WWII. Lots of historic weapons, uniforms, and documents on display. There is a continuous running movie on Greece during WWII on the top floor. There was plenty of references to Nafplio’s role in these conflicts. It was the nation’s first capital after it won independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1821. It was very interesting. The museum is staffed with very polite soldiers from the Greek Army. It stays open later than the museums too. Everything had descriptions in English. We discussed some of the history with the soldier on duty. He was well informed and proud of his history. Well worth a visit.
Paul — Google review
Great place for history buffs. Only complaint is that overall its a bit hard to follow if you don't know the context. In other words, it doesn't tell a story. Otherwise, it was clean and quiet.
Sam C — Google review
I'll always rate a military or war history museum a bit higher as it is a keen interest. The price is very low to get in. Building is in a bit of disrepair though (bathroom ceiling was even leaking rain water) so hopefully they spend some money fixing the place up a bit in the future. Enjoyed the video on 2nd floor and the various uniforms and weapons on display. If your not a fan you'll probably feel this place is a 2 or 3.
David M — Google review
In this historical building the first military school of Greece was founded. The collection is superb starting from the 1821 Greek Revolution era .WWI&WW2 exhibition items are also included. A visit in this place is a must and everyone should give it a try.

We actually came here to get out of the sun for a little bit, but it turned out to be one of my favorite places in Nafplio. The museum is set up in chronological order from the start of the Greek army until present day. There are a lot of interesting items to see, but my favorite was the WWII video on the top floor. We spent more time than we had originally planned, but loved every part of it. Definitely give it a try if you're around.

The Archaeological Museum of Nafplio is housed in a historic Venetian building located at the main Syntagma Square. Visitors can explore exhibits that include a remarkable bronze suit of armor dating back to the 15th century BC, among other local treasures.
Simply impressive. Do you have the opportunity to go? Then don't skip it. The history and energy of this place are truly special, the silence and serenity are magical. We went on a tour through Booking, and this is the most honest review: Without a tour, it’s very difficult to reach this place from Athens. So, for the transportation and transfers, it's 100% worth it. The guide is very limited since it’s through a device (What we did was add GPT to WhatsApp to ask it in real time the things we wanted to know)🤣 Enjoy!

Maybe is the smallest Archaeological museum I have ever visit. Just four rooms or two floors.. 10 euros entrance and no more of one hour you will need to see the things that have inside. At the old city you can find this museum..and as always Greece is full of ancient stuff.
Antonis M — Google review
A very nice archaeological museum, not too big so it’s easy to explore without feeling rushed. The museum is well organized, with two floors dedicated to the ancient cultures of the region. You can use an audio guide, and there are several sort of benches between the displays where you can sit, rest and listen to the commentary. The staff are friendly and helpful. Just be aware that the stairs to both the first and second floors are quite steep. Overall, a pleasant and interesting visit!

The Archaeological Museum of Nafplio is a museum in the town of Nafplio of the Argolis region in Greece. It has exhibits of the Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Helladic, Mycenaean, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods from all over southern Argolis. The museum is situated in the central square of Nafplion. It is housed in two floors of the old Venetian barracks. The oldest exhibits in the museums are Paleolithic clay hearths from the Kleisoura Gorge near Prosymna (32,000-21,000 BCE)

This a tiny, absolutely unnecessary, however, very charming museum. It is two storeys of findings from Mykene epoch, which is a lot earlier than classical Greek. No hands on experience for the kids. However the exhibition itself is versatile enough for everyone to find something interesting. Most notable items have a good explanation in English.

A lovely collection of interesting and priceless pieces of art and tools that come from an era long gone. Great atmosphere and not crowded even during peak vacation days in Greece. You might find the entry rules to be slightly discriminatory: if you’re an EU citizen under 25 years of age it’s free, if you’re a non-EU citizen under 25 it’s 3€. Albeit, both EU and non-EU over 25 are required to pay the full price of 6€. I personally don’t see the point in all of that but in any case, the entry is not overpriced in my opinion.

Sights & Landmarks

The Church of Saint Spyridon, located in the heart of Nafplio Old Town, is a significant landmark with a rich historical background. Built in 1702 during the Second Venetian domination, it holds great importance in Greek history as it was the site of the assassination of Ioannis Kapodistrias, Greece's first governor. This small yet pivotal church witnessed key events such as the establishment of Greece's first parliament and military school.
Important place where the first president of Greece was assassinated. In a historic picturesque neighborhood.

Here Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias was assassinated on October 9th 1831, by members of the Mavromichalis family. He was shot and stabbed. The bullet hole is still in the wall by the entrance. Painting inside the church of the assassination. If you go check out the ottoman fountains in the square with Arabic calligraphy.

The church where Greeks killed the first prime minister of Greece. You can actually see the spot where they shoot him and stab him..they wanted to be sure that they will kill him.. a church full of history and energy.. entrance is free..no need ticket.. but they have barred the half church you can't go near the temple to see.

The Church of Agios (Saint) Spiridon in Nafplion, Peloponnese: The church of Agios Spyridon is located in the Old Town of Nafplion, along with the paved streets of the town. This church was first built in 1702 with the financing of the Nafplion Brotherhood of Orthodox Greeks. This is a single-space basilica with a dome and a bell tower constructed in 1853. The interior of the church is solemn and there are many Byzantine icons and paintings around the walls. The painting that marks out for its vivid colors and its unusual theme is the large fresco of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, just opposite the entrance door. Also, another unusual sign for an Orthodox church is the Star of David, a Jewish symbol that can be seen at the floor, almost in the center of the church. This church has an important historical significance for the Greeks. It was there that on September 27th, 1831, the first governor of the newly-established Greek State, Ioannis Kapodistrias, was assassinated by his political opponents, some men from the Mavrokordatos family, a wealthy and strong family that time in Greece who had contributed a lot in the Greek War of Independence. That Sunday morning, Kapodistrias was going to the Holy Mass. As usually, he preferred this church that was dedicated to Saint Spiridon, the protector of his homeland, Corfu. Few men appeared from the stairs opposite the church and shot him. In fact, some of these bullets still have their prints against the wall of the church. These prints have been framed in a glass case. Personally the specific historical church is very beautiful from outside and from inside.

The spot where kapodistrias was murdered. The bullet hit point is the actual monument
N. P — Google review
The very place where the history of our small nation changed for worse. The shady assassination of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of the independent state of Greece, turned our country from a modern republic to a puppet kingdom, which is the source of pathogenicity up to this day for modern Greece. Sit on the stairs opposite to the church entrance and let your imagination unfold the tragic event.

Located in the heart of Nafplio, Byron Hotel is a charming budget hotel offering unfussy rooms with a simple yet elegant decoration. The hotel features a terrace and garden with city views, providing an ideal spot to unwind. Guests can enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi access throughout the property. The neoclassical architecture adds to the hotel's charm, and its convenient location allows easy access to nearby attractions such as Church of Agios Spyridonas and Kolokotronis Park.
The staff was great, a full breakfast, large rooms, lovely verandas with plenty of tables. It is necessary to walk up a number of steps with luggage but, if this is manageable, this is a great vintage style hotel. Views are nice as well.

I had a truly wonderful experience at Hotel Lord Byron in Nafplio, Greece. The hotel is charming and elegant, with beautifully maintained rooms and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Every detail reflected great care and quality. What impressed me most was the honesty and professionalism of the staff. After my stay, I realized I had left behind a ring with sentimental value. The team not only found it but also arranged for its return quickly and safely, keeping me informed throughout the process. Exceptional service like this is rare and deeply appreciated. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Nafplio. I will definitely return!

We always look for hotels with charm and character and Byron Hotel didn't dissapoint. A great cosy old hotel with lots of character in the old town of Nafplio with a wonderful view over the whole town and the sea. Our room was on the 3rd floor and we had 2 windows with amazing view. When we opened the door to the room we just stood there, stunned, with our mouths wide open. We had been to Spetses and Hydra just before arriving Nafplio and stayed at very nice hotels there but Byron was the best out of the three. We were welcomed by the very nice owner who also recommended us a local Tavern which had great Greek food. When we had breakfast in the old dining room/bar, we felt like going back to old times in Greece and we really enjoyed it. Byron Hotel is definitely highly recommended, a 10 out of 10!

Lovely, centrally located small boutique hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. 👍😊👍 When in Napflio, I really enjoy staying here and I always look forward to my next visit. 👍😍👍 In the high season they serve a simple breakfast that you can enjoy either inside in their bar/dining room or if you prefer, outside, on their beautiful terrace.😊 When breakfast isn't served at the hotel you'll find an electric kettle in your room with teabags, instant coffee + sugar&milk ... so you can at least make a warm beverage at your leisure. 😊👍 In any case, for breakfast & great coffee you'll find lots of places to enjoy just a short walk from the hotel. 😊😉😊 Another thing I also appreciate is the high standard of cleanliness in all areas of the hotel ... & ... the rooms & bathrooms are always truly spic span clean & all areas adhering to Covid 19 rules!

Nice clean rooms, very nice breakfast with lovely hosts who speak good English. View from the outside coffee tables are also nice and shaded. WiFi is also sufficient for browsing/surfing the web. Would definitely come again if in the area!

We only stayed one night but I can't fault it. For a low cost you get a nice clean room with ensuite and free wi-fi. Our room had a view over the rooftops of the old town below. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was as expected. The hotel is a nice traditional looking building and they have a really nice terrace out the front. I'd definitely stay here again

The contemporary restaurant Μέντα εστιατόριο in the new town of Nafplio is a great place to enjoy a Mediterranean, European, and Greek meal. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the food is delicious. There are plenty of seating options, including outdoor seating. Highchairs are available, and wheelchair access is easy. The restaurant also has a full bar serving wine and beer as well as cocktails.
A small, well-researched menu with plenty of variety. A good wine list. Impeccable service. A wonderful place for a romantic dinner. Definitely worth a visit.

Stylish restaurant, concise menu focussing on local specialties. Apart from a few salads, only 1 vegetarian dish (gnocchi). Very tasty. Service was efficient but felt aloof. Not in the mood.

One word to describe this place "PERFECT". The food is very tasty, fresh and looks great. The service is warm and welcoming. Happy vibes. Very recommended!
Dennis S — Google review
Skip the touristy fare by the port and walk a few blocks out of the way to this gem. The Smoked Eggplant dip with grilled feta is stellar—a must order mezze— and the leek with celeriac and béchamel-esque sauce is one of the best vegan mains (served as an appetizer here) I’ve had in Greece. Fresh fried squid (€9) and the pasta with shrimp bisque (€15) are also highly recommended—best homemade pasta we’ve had in Greece (we live in Athens). Be sure to try the house white wine too (€5/half carafe)🍷 🐙I’d skip the octopus with fava special—cooked a bit too firm for my taste and the feta mouse dollops on the side was practically whipped mayonnaise, which isn’t for me. That said, the plating on this dish is GORGEOUS! 🍰And the complimentary dessert is a cookies and cream mousse—filling and unique, this is a worthy ending to a delicious modern take on greek classics. 🍽 Lastly, the three dining areas have distinctly different vibes. The back area is family, children, and dog friendly. Large groups welcome (table of 10 sitting next to us) and the tables are VERY far apart, so you’ve got room to breathe in the open air patio (non smoking). 🗣🌎Menu is in Greek and English. Specials are only in Greek but Google translate’s camera function works well.

Absolutely amazing!! Everything we tried was wonderful!! Very tasteful choices, equal to 5 star restaurants in Athens!! Below are some photos of what we had. We would say it is cheap for what they offer. Totally recommended. We will come back for sure. Thank you Menta stuff!!

Wow! We’d planned to go to another restaurant, but they were full when we arrived so we pop’d next door instead and we’re very glad we did. We got a variety of starters which were just stunning, and when the main courses arrived we were in heaven - 10/10 recommend the Tuna steaks. A little complementary dessert afterwards, even this was incredible. From excellent service, to food, to prices, you cannot go wrong - thank you for a lovely evening!

Lovely! My company and I enjoyed the assortment of appetizers and look forward to returning. Fresh thinking cuisine offering flavour amongst a monotonous routine. Bravo👌😁 The service is also very attentive and pleasant. Lots of love from Toronto!

A decent taverna with solid food and a good selection of beers, ouzo and tsipouro. The sausages, zucchini and meat balls were really quiet good. The chefin and crew are competent and devoted. Pity though that you are allowed to smoke inside - doesn’t really work well with the rest of the ambience and food.

Ice cream shop
Koustenis Ice Cream, located in Nauplion, is a must-visit for those craving authentic homemade ice cream. The shop offers a wide range of flavors including traditional options like stracciatella and creme brulee, as well as unique choices such as fig and mastica. Despite the long queues, the affordable price of 1.50 euros for a single scoop makes it worth the wait.
It is a timeless place for ice cream in Nafplio, on the main pedestrian street of the old town. The quality remains high no matter how many years pass. Of all the flavors we tried, we liked more Lila Pause.
George M — Google review
I regret having ordered the “bowls” i should have ordered the normal cones. The bowls tasted a bit stale and you don’t taste the chocolate inside. The ice creams were meh (I had pistachio and chocolate). I don’t know what the fuss (and queue) is all about.
Katia H — Google review
Very tasty ice cream, big portions and they have some different options but be ready to pay 2.20€ for a ball or 4€ for two. 😅

Predatory credit card policies. If paying by credit card not denominated in euro, be aware that this establishment refuses to charge your card in euros. The checkout lady said that's an order from her boss. They effectively overcharge customers with non-euro cards. Do not recommend based on their unethical policies alone.

Actually this is really the best place for ice cream in Nafplio. Forget the “original Italian” place on the west side of the old town - this place has great flavors and a crispy fresh cone that creates just the magic. No wonder there is a long line with locals queuing in the evening … The scoops are large - one is 1.70 and two 3.5 … so go for it

This is definitely the best ice cream in town. Tasty and creamy with full flavor. Lot of great choices to combine and very quick service. Also it is traditional, anapliotiko! I don’t like ice cream but with this one I can learn to eat it every day.

Pergamónto, located at Sokaki on Ethnikis Antistaseos street, is a must-visit for those with a sweet tooth. This charming spot offers traditional Greek desserts such as loukoumades (honey puff donuts) with various toppings, orange pie, and galaktompoureko (Greek custard pie). Visitors rave about the delicious loukoumades served here, particularly the traditional ones with honey, cinnamon, and walnuts.
Crispy on the outside, soft and airy inside, these loukoumades are a flavor bomb! The warm honey drizzle, fragrant cinnamon, and crunchy walnuts create the perfect balance of sweetness and spice. Every bite melts in your mouth—absolutely lip-smacking delicious! A must-try for dessert lovers!

The loukoumades are fluffy, moist, and served fresh. The serving is more than enough for two to share (and a steal at ~€6). The woman who worked here was absolutely lovely and helped us find vegan options.

This set the bar high as the first loukoumades I had in Greece. Classic loukoumades are delicious as they are, topped with honey or hazelnut spread topped with nuts, this is a great place to experience in Nafplio. Went there on a cold day, and the warmth of their food, along with the friendliness of the owner and staff, made the experience all the better. Must-vist.
Ruvie P — Google review
We ordered loukoumades without honey and they refused to give us. Is it a problem if i want to eat it without honey? We ordered 2 ice creams 2 portions of loukoumades, one classic with honey, one without honey and they preferred us to leave, than to serve us. First time this happens to me, as we use to buy loukoumades from Greece very often and everywhere and we never had such problem

The Mycenaean Acropolis of Tiryns is a captivating archaeological site that offers a glimpse into the rich history of the Mycenaean civilization, which thrived during Greece's late Bronze Age from 1750 to 1050 BC. This ancient fortress, linked to the epic tales of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, features impressive ruins that reflect the sophisticated artistry and sociopolitical structures of its time.
Fantastic Acropolis of Tiryn’s.

Of all the archaeological sites we visited, this one seemed to lack information or context. In addition, there was renovations happening when we were there, so some of the site wasn’t fully accessible. We weren’t quite sure what we were seeing or what we should be looking for. A little more context or information may have made this a more interesting visit.
Alyssa B — Google review
Located south of the city of Mycenae, this ancient settlement resembles a fortress and is thought to have been the main port of the Mycenaeans. Built with massive stones atop a natural rocky outcrop, the city’s walls are quite impressive. In Iliad, Homer states that these walls were constructed by the Cyclopes. In reference to this, the masonry work of the Mycenaeans is today known as "Cyclopean Masonry." Tiryns is also where the Oracle of Delphi, Pythia, sent Heracles to atone for killing his own wife and children. Here, Heracles came under the command of King Eurystheus of Mycenae and carried out the tasks given to him. During the famous Twelve Labors of Heracles, he resided in this area, with the first six tasks taking place inside the Peloponnese Peninsula. Although the archaeological site is generally poorly maintained, confusing, with insufficient informational signs, and no maps provided at the entrance, it was still a visit where we were captivated by the impressive stone walls of the Mycenaeans.

Fascinating ruins but definitely not for mobility impaired visitors. Very quiet, few people, good signage in Greek and English and interesting to see this ancient place. Be sure to visit the archeology museum in Nafplio to see extensive collections from the excavation. Get the combo ticket for 20 euro.

Visited in March 2024 We visited Tiryns after we left Mycenae…it being a very close drive. There were only 4 other people at the site when we were there. There is plenty of room to park. The construction of the walls with huge rocks is true and truly they are huge. It was spring and there was a lot of flowers blooming around and on the site and it was a beautiful site to see. Lots of mysterious mythology and history about this site which is worth reading about to get a better understanding before you arrive. Tiryns is a Mycenaean archaeological site in Argolis in the Peloponnese, and the location from which the mythical hero Heracles was said to have performed his Twelve Labours. Tiryns was a hill fort with occupation ranging back seven thousand years, from before the beginning of the Bronze Age. It reached its height of importance between 1400 and 1200 BC, when it became one of the most important centers of the Mycenaean world, and in particular in Argolis. Its most notable features were its palace, its Cyclopean tunnels and especially its walls, which gave the city its Homeric epithet of "mighty walled Tiryns". Tiryns became associated with the myths surrounding Heracles, as the city was the residence of the hero during his labors, and some sources cite it as his birthplace.
Kirk B — Google review
Terrible value. 10 euro entry. The 1 sign that has any information about the site is located next to the ticket booth. The only other signs inform about the restoration. Much of the site remains blocked off, not that it makes a difference, as there is no info on what you are looking at. Would not recommend.

Bourtzi Fortress, situated on the islet of St. Theodoroi near Nafplio Harbor, was constructed by the Venetians in 1473 as a defense against invaders. Over time, it served various purposes including a prison, executioner's residence, hotel, and restaurant. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction with boat trips available during summer months and weekends from October to March.
Fantastic monument. Greatly worth the visit. Boats every 30 minutes on the half hour. Great views. Nice exhibit. Amazing restoration and helpful guides. Super pleasant people everywhere. A monument not to miss. Weather was cold, but warmth of people made up for it.

Loved our visit to this small fortress. The ferry takes you there and brings you bag to shore on its next trip or wait longer if its not the end of the day. There’s a brief history told in each room of the fortress. You have to pay for the ferry and entry to the fortress once you reach it.

A cool castle to visit in the middle of the sea, with view of the city of Nafplio. Not much else to do. Have in mind that you will pay to get across and fee for entrance to the castle.

Bourtzi is a centuries-old Venetian fortress built starting in 1471 by Antonio Gambello and completed by the engineer Brancaleone It functioned as a defensive stronghold connected to the mainland by a chain, and later served as an executioner's residence, hotel, and now a restored tourist site. The castle offers stunning panoramic views of Nafplio's Old Town, the waterfront, and surrounding fortresses like Acronafplia and Palamidi. Many highlight it as a picture-perfect photo spot, especially at sunrise or sunset

It’s worth the short boat ⛴️ ride to the castle but when it comes to the castle itself it’s literally empty, they should’ve taken advantage of the empty spaces (especially the top of it) and maybe create a rooftop bar 🍸 or a restaurant 🍽️. Lots of traditional and hearty Greek food…the meatball with rice pilaf and fries are delicious, perfect after lots of walking :) Nestled within a narrow alley, so was rather nice and tranquil. Rose house wine is flavorful with hints of peach taste. Complimentary semolina cake looks plain but is surprisingly good, light. Overall portions are quite big.

A traditional Greek taverna in a cozy little street of the old town overhung by a pink bougainvillea. Maybe we were lucky today - they had two daily specials gemista and pastitsio, but both were absolutely heavenly. The Greek salad and the pork steak were also up to standard. We received also very friendly attitude from the owner who served us personally. Interestingly the other Greek tavern a few meters away was overbooked, while here we didn't need a reservation.

Even though it’s located in the city center, the place was very calm, and the atmosphere felt truly authentic. The dishes, especially the appetizers, were amazing, and the portions generous. We spent less than €50 for 4 people and left feeling very full and satisfied

We walked around Nafplio for a while, trying to decide where to get lunch on our first day in town- we turned a corner and saw The Old Mansion Taverna with a couple groups of happy locals chatting and sitting outside at the tables. The vibes made the decision for us- I knew this had to be a good spot and so we got a table for two. We ended up visiting this taverna twice for lunch during our stay in Nafplio and we loved both of our meals here. Their tzatziki was our favorite of all the places we ate at and they seasoned their Horiatiki (Greek salad) very nicely. Our server, Aggelo, was kind and helpful. He spoke fluent English and humored me as I attempted to speak in Greek. The location is beautiful and tucked away in a quiet alleyway with a full canopy of bougainvillea above the outdoor tables.

Food was ok, adequate. The first time they brought my snitsel the chicken was still raw. i took it back and the owner tried to down play it. they were overwhelmed with the amount of customers, but it seems like a poorly managed restaurant. Either hire more people or reduce your pricing. After the dispute the owner came and apologized and said he was stressed. I got stressed too. Not worth the price tag.

A cute place but really avoid it. The service wasn’t good which is rare in this country and the food was also not great. Several things weren’t available from the menu. I think for tourists it would have been fine food but as a Greek person it was subpar dining. Even the fries taste pretty bad. Furthermore we were actually asked to pay so they could give the table to another group but not in a gracious manner. There are plenty of other nice tavernas in Nafplio to try. We got for about 80 eur for 5 people Greek salad - good Bifteki w feta - good Pork in wine sauce - not good Beef in lemonato- not good lemon sauce Keftedes in tomato sauce - fine not great Artichokes - good Red wine & mythos

We came on a busy August night for dinner here. The prices were good and the menu seemed the same as the other restaraunts we had tried in Nafplio. The service was quick and friendly but unfortunately that day the food was not good. We order stuffed tomatoes but they were very tasteless. We ordered the meat Dolma but the meat had a bad taste so we didn't eat it. When the waiter asked if the food was OK we said it wasn't tasty and asked what type of meat it was (he said beef but it did not taste like beef!) We paid and left, maybe the chef had a bad day.

Great hotel in stunning location. Rooms look out over the bay and are quite large and comfortable. Rooms have a fridge and a room safe. The only downside is no tea or coffee making facilities. Rooms are heavily automated with buttons to open and close curtains, which takes a bit of working out, including the window to the bathroom.most rooms have a balcony, but a few just have a juliet balcony.
Ian F — Google review
While the service and public areas are outstanding, the rooms are not. Shabby curtains, woodwork that badly needs sanding/restaining, a pocket door to the bathroom that requires the strength of Hercules to move; these are regular maintenance items that should be done but aren’t. These pale in comparison to the nightmare that is the bed. Every person we talked to in our tour group said the same: the beds are AWFUL. They might as well put a sheet on a boxspring, it’s so uncomfortable. The frame creaked loudly any time either of us moved, including getting in/out or just rolling over. While road noise is fine with the slider to the balcony closed, it’s glaringly loud (people, cars, motorcycles) when you open them, which you will have to do because the heat wouldn’t turn off, making the room stifling. Both evenings we opened the slider to get some cool air, and had to close them within an hour due to the overwhelming woodsmoke that filtered in. So it was either get smoked out or swelter…what a choice. I can’t say I’d stay here again.

Very very tired . The only quality of this hotel are the view - they are amazing ! The rooms are very dated , all the furniture is very visibly worn , bathrooms are very basic - our room had a bath but only a hand held shower . On the night we checked in there was no hot water but we weren’t told that we had to find that out ! Day 2 and the water was warm but not hot - it was clearly a great hotel 20 years ago when they last spent money on it ! The WiFi age has yet to reach this hotel - we were offered the use of a conference room if we wanted to connect !!! Despite what their website says there is no parking - you have to take your luck on the street - we were here at a weekend so it meant quite a walk ! Shocking value for money & a clear sign you can never rely on star ratings or on hotel.com ratings ! Avoid !

What a waste! One of the most beautiful hotels in Nafplio—probably in the best location in the city with stunning views—fails to receive the maintenance and attention it deserves, yet the owners still expect guests to pay €290 per night, including taxes. Worn headboards, sagging mattresses, fading wood panels in the rooms, and barely functional bathrooms with torn shower curtains, TV that doesn’t work , all create an atmosphere of neglect and decay. Wi-Fi does not work in the rooms due to “ongoing rewiring,” we were told. However, when I checked Google reviews, guests had reported the same problem four months ago. The staff are polite and do their best to ease the situation with smiles, but they cannot provide real solutions. If the hotel cannot be properly maintained, the least the owners could do is significantly lower the price .

Nice staff, good location - however photos do not match the actual room condition or specs. Very dated, run down. Advertised as having parking but no car parking - very expensive also, would not recommend unfortunately.

Travelled with a group, quite a number of issues (no hot water for showers, airccon in one room, another not cleaned, room card kept failing) and you cant get hotel wifi unless in the lobby (we were told). As such i went to the lobby to get some work completed, and the icing on the cake was that I had the displeasure of dealing with Panagioye who contradicted what we were told and basically said i needed to leave the lobby because there are hotel guest that use the lounge and i should sit on a lounge like that. This being at 11pm at night, 3-4 sitting areas and i seen 2 people walk through the lobby in the half an hour i was there. He was rude and in my opinion being discriminatory as I can not see any other reason to request the move. Its 2025 maybe spend some of the money guests are paying to stay on a small investment into a necessary for travellers who work called wifi (along with all your other issues of the hotel) and if not dont approach guests like they are the issue. Half the areas (lobby etc) have no air-conditioning. I would prefer to have been in the comfort of my room the sit in a sauna. Also Panagioye may need some training in customer service. His aggressive approach might be met a little differently one day and if hes going at point fingers at guests using guest wifi it might be best him not sitting there watching videos himself at high volume echoing through to the next floor. Not somewhere I would say pride themselves on service, maintenance or facilities and definitely not somewhere i would not recommend

Furniture and electrical plugs require maintenance. The rest of the hotel is generally good.
MOHAMMED A — Google review
The location of the hotel is stunning with great sea views and situated close to everything while also being quiet and close to everything. The staff were outstanding and always very helpful. The rooms were comfortable. A couple of things could be improved. The wifi in rooms was virtually non existent. The shower head was placed so that you had to hold the shower head but the water pressure was the best I have ever seen. The temperature of the room fridge needed to be cooler. I often had to get the digital key card to the room rescanned as it would be affected if you had your phone anywhere near it and wouldn't work. The staff would quickly fix these issues. Breakfasts were very nice and staff were most attentive. I would definitely stay here again.

Located outside the old town at Profiti Ilia 12, Stable Thrakotaverna is renowned for its grilled meat, friendly staff, and traditional taverna atmosphere. Visitors can savor their specialty dish, provatina. For a delightful experience of ouzo and mezedes, head to To Lixnari at 33 Plapouta.
We have read great reviews about this restaurant and certainly were not disappointed. We had the best tzatziki so far in Greece, a spectacular daily special of pork on a spit, and a salad that was to die for. The red house wine complimented the meal very well. We loved how the owner was making sure everything ran smoothly. It was apparent that he took great pride in his restaurant.

Perfect lamb chops! Amazing owner and great staff! Food and vine are of a really great quality. Me and my friend went off the season and when the owner heard that we are from Chile and Serbia he showed us a very warm welcome for the rest of a dinner. 🇷🇸🇨🇱🇬🇷

Just found this restaurant and was a lovely traditional Greek fare. Tzaziki was sensational, the meat dishes were very tasty with a depth of flavor. Definitely recommend.

Here’s a 50-word review based on the photos: A true Greek taverna experience. Grilled meats are perfectly seasoned and flame-kissed, served with golden fries and fresh lemon. The horiatiki salad is crisp and refreshing. Relaxed outdoor seating under trees adds charm. Simple, authentic, and satisfying—this place nails traditional flavors without overcomplicating them. Bring friends and an appetite!

A truly delightful experience at this charming family-run spot in Nafplio. From the moment we walked in, we felt like honored guests. I ordered the lamb chops, and they were simply outstanding. Cooked to perfection - juicy on the inside with a beautiful char on the outside, and seasoned impeccably. It was clear these were quality cuts prepared with expertise. The whole meal felt like a genuine taste of Greek home cooking. Highly recommend for anyone looking for authentic flavors and warm service

To say this food (and service) was impeccable is an understatement. We travelled all over Greece with this restaurant as our benchmark and nothing lived up to it. From the dips, phyllo feta appetizer, and the meat, this place does not miss. The owner was more than attentive and got joy from us enjoying his food. I have never written a google review, but I was compelled with the level of this food

Bakery
Kosmos Bakery, a relatively new establishment located at the entrance of town, offers an extensive selection of pastries, breads, desserts, ice creams, wines and casserole dishes. Its unique design stands out and catches one's attention. A popular item on their menu is the frappe - a beloved iced coffee enjoyed by Greeks throughout the year. This bakery is known for its quality iced coffees and also offers an array of snacks and sweets that cater to various tastes.
Delicious with a variety of options from food, sweets, pastries, wine, sweet drinks, coffee and more... Every day I tried something new, there are seats outside the store, the minus for me is that some of them are in front of and close to the road and some of them are in front of the parking lot, it takes away from the atmosphere while eating, the place is open 24/7.

Amazing facilities, selection of deserts, cakes etc is unmatched. Certainly did not expect to find this quality and assortment in a small town. Service, however, could be more friendly. but had a few local guys serviced before us even though we placed order well before. Maybe this was just a random/isolated case. Otherwise very happy with the place!

This is a must visit when in Nafplio. We first stumbled across this place several years ago, and we immediately were curious what it had to offer inside. We visited the next day (recently) and were amazed. For someone coming from abroad it was mind blowing to see everything in this bakery. They had so much stuff that it was easy to get carried away. Plenty of parking at the front which is also handy. We would always stop here during the morning before going to the beach at Tolo. We can't wait to go again. Fantastic place - the locals are lucky.

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Fortress of Acronauplía. Not quite as popular as Archaeological Museum of Nafplio, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

The Fortress of Akronauplia, also known as "Its Kale," is a historic moated fortress located on a rocky peninsula in Nafplio, Greece. It has a rich history dating back to ancient times and has been influenced by various civilizations including the Romans, Venetians, Byzantines, Franks, and Ottomans. The fortress offers lift access and stands as the oldest fortification in Nafplio.
Interesting ruins of a castle, church, garrison, etc. Free to wander at one's own pace. A few informational markets along the way. Excellent views of the town, bay, and region. No services on site but restaurants nearby. This is not the castle with all of the steps. It is uphill, but a relatively easy walk on pavement the entire way. Not crowded.
Joan C — Google review
Easy walk from Napflio, fine old remains of buildings. Be aware where you walk though as it seems it is not maintained. Free entrance. Fantastic views from there
Christine R — Google review
You need to walk this old castle. You will meet some cute cats and have an astonishing view and if you time it good an amazing sunset.
Theo M — Google review
Nice site to roam around the ruins for free with nice sea view. Easy walk down to the beach too with as usual lots of cats and kittens, some coming for cuddles.
Laurent L — Google review
After the tough climb up to this fortress from the old town below, we were a little underwhelmed. Not much of antiquity interest when you get there, but the views are great.
Peter T — Google review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Acronauplia Fortress in Nafplio is a captivating relic that drew my wife, children, and me into its storied embrace. We wandered its ancient ramparts, tracing the footsteps of Byzantines, Venetians, and Ottomans across weathered stone. Scaling low walls, we felt like scholars unearthing secrets, while the kids imagined themselves as intrepid adventurers. From sheer cliff edges, we gazed at beachgoers below, mere specks against the Argolic Gulf’s turquoise expanse, glinting under a relentless sun. Nafplio’s Old Town, with its terracotta roofs, sprawled beneath us—a living canvas of history’s endurance. Standing under the famed clock tower as it tolled, the resonant chime seemed to summon ghosts of empires past, leaving my ears ringing with their echo. The heat tested our resolve, but the breeze off the sea and the fortress’s grandeur kept us pressing on. My wife, our steady guide, ensured no one strayed too close to the edge. Acronauplia is no mere pile of stones; it’s a dialogue with time, offering panoramic vistas and whispers of ancient intrigues. Bring water, sturdy shoes, and an open mind—this fortress is a journey into the heart of history’s tenacity. (204 words)

Villa
Nafplia Palace Hotel & Villas is a luxurious 5-star property situated on Acronafplia Hill, offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and Bourtzi Castle. The hotel features sophisticated accommodations, including modern villas with private plunge pools and spacious balconies overlooking Nafplion and the Argolic Bay. While the main building may need refurbishment, the private villas offer a lavish experience.
This is truly a hidden gem. Views are perfect. Included breakfast overlooks the town…serene and peaceful location. Town comes alive with music at night. Surrounded by castles. Just lovely. Staff was very nice and always available to assist. Rooms were comfortable and clean. We enjoyed wine delivered to us by friendly staff on the balcony overlooking the room pool and shared waterfall pool while the town bustled below. It’s like staying in a castle. The builders paid great attention to detail. This is worth a visit if you enjoy relaxing outside the hustle and bustle of city life.
Kay S — Google review
This is a formerly 5-star hotel that is now doing its best on a limited budget. The room we had was incredible, but it was dated and had some noticeable wear and tear issues. For instance, the wood floors are scraped and scratched and clearly haven't been redone in years. The elevators are mostly out of service and half the hotel is closed down. Also, no wifi, which is weird in a place like Greece where you can get wifi in the middle of nowhere. On the other hand, the pools are amazing. The grounds are amazing. The view is incredible. The breakfast buffet every morning was one of the best I've ever had, especially since you eat it on the balcony over-looking the bay at Nafplio. Finally, the staff are very accommodating and fast about getting you what you need. So, this is like a 4-star hotel wearing it's old 5-star clothes from back when it was hot. Once you realize that you will have a great stay, even at the price, which is high. I really liked it and I'd go back if I do a return visit to Nafplio.
Dave T — Google review
My recent stay at this hotel was highly disappointing. The rooms were extremely dated and desperately in need of renovation. The shower barely worked, and there was no hot water most of the time. Moreover, several balcony lights were out, making it feel unsafe at night. To top it off, the main door lock was broken, leaving our belongings vulnerable. The food was another letdown; it was mediocre at best, and breakfast was outright terrible. The only redeeming aspect of this establishment was the staff, who were friendly and did their best to assist us. In conclusion, this hotel is severely outdated and neglected. It urgently requires a comprehensive update and better maintenance. Given the current condition, it is definitely not worth the money.
Stratis N — Google review
An absolutely stunning location, almost within the grounds of the ancient fortifications. The hotel is set on a hill overlooking the old town and the waterfront, offering breathtaking views. There is even an elevator that takes you directly down to the old town, making it very easy to get around. The hotel also has its own parking, which is very convenient. We were upgraded to a room with a private pool, which was a wonderful bonus during the hot days of our trip. The room was spacious, with a huge bathroom featuring a freestanding bathtub and a large shower. There was also a jacuzzi, although unfortunately, it wasn’t working during our stay. The room included a bidet toilet, plenty of towels, including beach towels, a comfortable bed, and good quality linens. Everything was very clean. The only downside was the lack of Wi-Fi in the room, but we were informed this was a temporary issue. It’s also worth noting that the hotel is a bit old, with rooms full of technology that was modern 10 years ago, and not everything works perfectly. However, this did not spoil our overall impression. Breakfast was decent, and the restaurant offers a spectacular view while you eat. Overall, we definitely recommend this hotel for your stay in Nafplio.

Gorgeous view! Friendly service. Nice spacious rooms, comfortable beds. breakfast buffet with variety and option to order eggs a la carte. Nice swimming pools.

This is the worst hotel I have stayed in in my entire life. It is a complete wreck. Leaking corridors, dead plants, plastic chairs, an entire building abandoned, a garage filled with graffiti, a restaurant that smells like raw sewage and, naturally, NO GUESTS! We checked out after a sleepless night. It was a disgusting experience.
George C — Google review
We just completed five days at Nafplia Palace. My wife visited the hotel 12 years ago and remembered it fondly so she booked us here. Upon arrival, we were confused because the main lobby is shut down. A wonderful staff member named Giannis came and assisted us. Everything written about the hotel being dated, feeling desolate, lacking WiFi, and like a shell of its former self is true. We enjoyed our experience nonetheless. When we book hotels we look for places that are not massive chains. We always try to support local business. Therefore we don’t have grand expectations like we would if staying at a Four Seasons. Nafplia Palace was great to us. We would stay again. Perched on the mountain, it was great to overlook the former capital of Greece and enjoy some serenity away from the nightlife. We had a stroller for a baby and the lift worked fine. It made it easy to visit the town and when we were done we’d retreat to our sanctuary. Unfortunately, based upon reviews and our experience it does appear as though the current ownership group is not interested in updates to the rooms or property. The staff do the best they can with what they are given. Many of the staff are locals, born and raised. If you want Four Seasons, book that. If you want a quiet secluded room perfect for unplugging for a few days, Napflia Palace is great. We hope when we return to the town this hotel is still an option.
RJ C — Google review
This place was probably pretty nice in the '70s. Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated or maintained. The room had burnt out lights, electrical wires sticking out of the wall, and to top it off... an extremely musty smell. If this was 100euro/night it would be an ok deal (even then not great), but at over $300/night this was an extremely disappointing experience. There are three elevators to get to and from the city (below). Of the three, only one is functioning. It's extremely sketchy. The roads and area surrounding the 'palace' are poorly lit with nearby abandon/derelict buildings. Unsurprisingly, there is graffiti and trash everywhere outside of the hotel. I think the view would have been one of the major upsides, however, it's not really a factor for the first floor units. Save your money and choose one of the many other surrounding accommodations.

It is a large square between the new and the old town of Nafplion, with many trees andbenches, where the statue of Theodoros Kolokotronis dominates in the middle of the square. Behind the palace you can see the impressive Palamidi fortress. Around the square there are many stores with tables for food, drinks, ice creams or coffee. This square is much quieter than the central square of the old town of Nafplio.

Acronafplia Pension, a charming guesthouse situated in Nafplions Old Town, consists of four 19th century buildings. The rooms are warm and inviting, featuring wooden floors and large iron beds. The ambiance is laid-back and relaxed, with a terrace for guests to enjoy. Complimentary Wi-Fi is also available. The pension offers brightly-colored accommodations with stone walls and uniquely decorated rooms and apartments.
We were accommodated in building D in the first half of June. I've been reading the reviews and wondering if it's the same accommodation we were given. We were very satisfied. Thanks to the owner for allowing us to stay with a poodle, considering we arrived with no plan in advance. The room eas cleaned daily. It is a bit small, but the positioning, balcony view and the fact that they accepted us with a poodle gives them a 10.

Location of the hotel is perfect. But the rooms are very old, the bathroom is nothing like the photos. Host was kind enough to let us check-in before the time.
Alisson E — Google review
Cozy motel in the center of Nafplio old city. The location is the best thing about this motel. It couldn't get any central than this. From our balcony we could see both the fortress walls as well as the Acronafplia castle. It might be a bit loud, especially on a Friday and Saturday night, as there are bars and restaurants on the main street under the room, but you cannot get a central location without a bit of noise. The room was small but had everything we needed and it was very cute, nicely decorated and alluding to an older more romantic style (personally i think it fits perfectly the architecture of the building and of the city). They cleaned the room daily plus bringing us clean towels. The owner was very helpful and explained to me a lot regarding the route we wanted to follow to go to the south of Monemvasia.
Sotiris T — Google review
Very friendly staff, easy access to the town, quiet and very comfortable. Homemade breakfast is served on the outer terrace with a view over the whole town. When we had trouble finding the exact entrance to the pension, the staff was very helpful. The room has an air-con for the coolish/hot outside weather. The pension is situated at half-way up the moutain and therefore very quiet. You gain access to the town via stairs that lead down. We enjoyed our stay a lot:)

Absolutely terrible customer service! I reserved a room through Booking.com at the pension over a month in advanced. When it came to paying (about a week before my stay), there was an issue on their end taking the payment with my credit card, so I was asked by Booking.com update my details, and I separately sent them an email to explain. They ignored my email and cancelled my booking without even trying my new card details! Also during this time I had called them six times, and only twice did they pick up, and only once were they actually in the office and able to help. After they cancelled, I emailed to ask them to reserve my room/try my card again/organise something else, and they asked me to book again through the website—but they put their prices up! When I asked queried them about this, they said (in so many words) it was my problem. Needless to say, I've booked somewhere else.... I can't comment on the rooms or on the location, but I suggest you check out the other reviews. It seems like the photos they provide are extremely misleading, and that most of the rooms are much less nice. If this is indeed the case, then with dodgy practices like that, it bears the question why it was my credit card that was rejected—perhaps they are trying to avoid reverse-payments? But this is just speculation and ought to be taken with a large grain of salt.

Mandaloun Lebanese Street Food is a great place to get some tasty, fresh-made Lebanese food. Their falafel wrap is especially good, as is their chicken sawarma. The staff are friendly and can help you find what you're looking for, whether that's the perfect falafel or an English-speaking smile.
This was the best meal of our week in Greece! We loved the falafel babaganoush wrap, the kebab plate, spicy feta dip, the mandaloun salad with grilled halloumi, and the kunefe. The blended mint lemonade was perfection. Great service by the same young woman who we later realized was also preparing the food! I would fly back to Greece just to eat here again. It was excellent all around.

Absolutely incredible flavours! We found this little hidden gem while walking around Nafplio. Unfortunately we did not order more food as we order something small to nibble on. But we are definitely coming back! The lamb and chicken kebab were out of this world - even better than what we had eaten during our trip to turkey, and fries are handmade.

This place is a hidden gem in Nafplio, and I highly encourage tourists and locals to visit. You will not be disappointed, the food is impeccable and what can be nicer than a restaurant being run by a family. Their hummus is fresh and their shawarma is succulent. Give it a try.

Karima Kastro is a hidden gem nestled in the charming Old Town of Nafplio, where culinary delights await. This enchanting restaurant specializes in gourmet Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, showcasing an array of authentic dishes crafted from the freshest local ingredients. Guests can indulge in hearty stews and succulent shrimp bathed in garlicky goodness while enjoying attentive service from the friendly staff.
Upon arriving in Nafplio, we had lunch at Karima Kastro. It was 3 p.m., and the place was bustling. Only one person was working the tables (maybe the owner). He was so pleasant and efficient, that everyone was happy and eating in no time. We had a Greek salad, creamed mushrooms, french fries, and bread. Delicious. Karima Kastro was a great way to start our Nafplio stay. We just returned for dinner. Best meal we had in Nafplio! We split the squid and sea bass entrees. Incredible. We plan on returning.

We stopped by for lunch on a quick visit to Nafplio. The portions are huge, so you should order one appetizer and two entrees at the very most if sharing between two people. Two entrees is more than enough for two people. We got a small portion of the mushroom pasta, grilled seabass, and chicken schnitzel with tomato sauce. Loved the pasta and grilled fish. Next time, I’d order a normal sized pasta and skip the schnitzel. We sat outside. Service was friendly and we got some grapes for dessert!

We got pasta and it was really amazing. I think that in general things are a bit overpriced but not too much( it is turistic area). We waited 20 min to order but it was full. Staff is very kind. At the end they gave us watermelon.

The soup was nice. The fried feta and sesame needed a lot more honey, to counter the sesame and compliment the feta. It took a while for the mains to arrive, but that was nothing major. Moussaka and Souvlaki was fine. But overall, expensive for what it was

Accompanied with 2 kinds of local white wine, a great recommendations of the owner. We had such a great time, the atmosphere was very relaxed and enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Valaora Resto Nafplio is a top-notch dining spot that offers an unforgettable experience. The location is stunning, the service is fantastic, and the food is incredible. The attention to detail from the staff ensures that every guest feels well taken care of. The menu features dishes like crispy tempura anchovy with pickled ginger, flavorful rigatoni pasta, and tender rooster with silky puree and crispy skin.
Highly recommended. Very tasty food, based on traditional Greek dishes but with a twist here and there. Haven’t had more tender octopus than this ever, and I could probably convince myself to fly back to Greece just for the baklava-based dessert. Staff and service outstanding. Great attention to detail and timing. Worth a bit of a drive since the town is nice to visit in itself.

We had dinner here with just the two of us, very nice place just around the corner of the busier side of the boulevard. The views were gorgeous! We got sat right as the sun went down so that was absolutely amazing. There are some tables on the sea side (I think only tables for two) outside. In our opinion the best seats. They told us those were usually already reserved so maybe call ahead if you want those seats. Staff greeted us nicely even though we weren’t dressed as chique as the other guests. We were dressed maybe a bit too casual (street wear) for the place witch made us feel like we maybe weren’t taken as seriously as the other guests. This is why the service rating is a bit lower… We ordered some aperitifs that were recommend by the bar, these sadly did not arrive. When we got our menus we ordered 2 starters and one main dish to share. We were very happy with all the lovely choices on the menu, everything sounded super tasty and the prices were very reasonable. We had to ask for a drinks menu, my boyfriend ordered a wine. This sadly also didn’t come but after we asked it came very quickly so no problems there :-). We had some home made sourdough bread witch was very lovely and we had it with some mutton tartar. The menu was explained well, so were the specials and the catch of the day. For our main dish we went with the octopus ravioli. We can really recommend the dish it was very lovely! The tastes and textures went really well together. We shared a trio of homemade sorbets, we also really enjoyed that one. Overall quite a nice experience. We would love to visit again next year.

A truly magical dining experience in Nafplio. We had an unforgettable dinner here with a breathtaking view over the bay, watching the sunset while enjoying every moment. The atmosphere is incredible, effortlessly combining elegance and warmth, and the presentation of each dish is truly stylish and creative. The staff are exceptionally attentive, offering impeccable service that makes you feel genuinely cared for without being intrusive. The dishes themselves are delicious and unique, showcasing a modern, author’s interpretation of Greek cuisine with a strong focus on local trends and fresh regional products. Each bite feels like a story of the area, told with creativity and respect for tradition. They also offer a children’s menu, and our child loved the dish so much that not a single crumb was left on the plate. This is a perfect place for a sunset dinner in Nafplio, where every detail adds to a beautiful, memorable evening.

50€ for a bottle that costs 16€ We arrived at 6:30 PM, half an hour after the restaurant opened at 6:00 PM, hoping to enjoy the view of Bourtzi. Unfortunately, all the tables with a nice view were already taken, and there was no way to book online as the link on the website didn’t work. The staff offered us a table inside or to wait about an hour for a table with a view. We agreed, and luckily they called us back after only 30 minutes, which was a relief since we were hungry. I knew the portions would be small, and I expected the prices to be about 10 € more than in other restaurants with bigger portions. But it turned out that everything was more expensive. The portions were indeed very small, and nothing about the flavors felt special or memorable. The only exception was the Lemon Braised Pork, which was very tender and tasty. But even that dish didn’t offer any new or unique flavors. I’ve had more exciting tastes in simpler places that don’t try to position themselves as ultra-fancy or near-Michelin level. The wine was the biggest disappointment: we paid 50 € for a bottle of Noemvris, which I later found online for just 16 €. I expected a markup, but at least thought it would be worth around 30 €. Paying that much for something so ordinary was frustrating, knowing we were just paying for the view and the name of the place, not for actual quality. Yes, the service was good — the staff were polite, explained the dishes, and the atmosphere was pleasant. But there was nothing extraordinary about the food, and you could have the same taste experience in any other restaurant in town for far less money. In the end, the only thing worth doing here is coming for a glass of wine with the view, and then leaving. Staying to eat will cost you a lot, and you won’t experience any culinary “wow” moments. I wouldn’t come back, except maybe just for that view and a single drink, because otherwise, you’ll spend a lot of money just to feel full without any real excitement. I’m leaving one star not out of anger, but to make the rating more honest — this place does not deserve to be anywhere near 4.9.

5 stars just for the sourdough bread and the rooster pasta! Really amazing. Gnocchi was great as well. Service very attentive and friendly! The view is probably the best you can find in Nafplio - do come before sunset! Pricing a bit on the higher end but also worth it. The other (starter) dishes were sadly a bit of a hit and miss, perhaps a personal preference. The restaurant is about fusion/experiments which I'm a fan of, but in some cases it led to too many ingredients for my taste. Greek salad was interesting.. but I could barely taste the vegetables due to the strong herbs/sauce used and the ice cream in it was simply weird. The anchovies were just ok, the mix with mandarins was surprising. But since those are my preferences and the rest was amazing I wouldn't rate any less than 5 stars :)

Spicy pork cutlet has a complex and flavorful taste, well grilled. Surprisingly the house red wine is fruity and has nice black plum notes, nicer than I expected. Dolmades has minced meat in it, and has a tangy taste. Complimentary filo pastry strawberry custard dessert is very good, especially the filo pastry…slightly charred and crispy.

Day 4

Proximity is everything
For day 4, we bundled attractions like Lion of the Bavarians and National Gallery - Nafplio Department and other places within a close range, so that the time it takes to travel between all of them is less than one hour. Combined with the average time people spend there, your day should take about 8 hours.

The Lion of the Bavarians, also known as Agouroon by locals, is a famous attraction located in Nafplio, Argolis. Carved into the rock with fine artistry, this monument was created in 1836 by German sculptor Siegel at the request of King Ludovik to honor Bavarian soldiers who succumbed to typhoid fever between 1833 and 1834.
Great spot to relax. It's not a noisy part of the town and I didn't see a single tourist even though the town was extremely busy due to the yacht show. Highly recommend especially if you want to escape the crowds. There are also swings for the kids just opposite. FYI, you don't need any tickets to see the landmark, it's open to the public.
Dora — Google review
The sculpture itself is a masterpiece. The park in which it is located, is filthy and full of rubbish. I live in the area and there are always people at night partying and leaving rubbish there with a bin just a few metres away across the street. There are no bins in the park itself and the local govt should get their act together and place bins and send council workers more often to clean up the mess and take care of the landscaping.
Rod G — Google review
Interesting to look at if you are passing by, but don't make a special trip. You may even miss it if you did not specifically look for it up carved into the rock face above. TIP: The cemetery around the corner is interesting if you are here anyway.

The National Gallery - Nafplio Department is a treasure trove of history and culture, nestled in the charming town of Nafplio. The gallery's annex showcases exquisite works by renowned artists such as Gyzis, Lytras, and Vryzakis. Housed in a neoclassical building with a rich past, it has served various purposes over the years before becoming part of the National Gallery.
An awesome exhibit about the Greek Revolution of 1821 is being held from 22.05.21 until 30.06.22. There is also a small souvenir shop with some of the paintings appearing on pens, notebooks, pins, booklets, etc. I went there on a Saturday afternoon and it was almost empty. There were barely any people so I had a good time to walk around the gallery in peace. It took me around 30 minutes to see everything and with no rush. I obviously had a good time there, bought a couple of souvenirs and definitely recommend!

In every city we go to, we try to visit the art gallery that they have. This gallery open at 10:00 in the morning, so don't start too early to go there. It isn't so big.. two floors of paintings.. mainly inspired from the greek revolution against the Turks. Don't forget that Nafplion was the capital city after Greece became an independent country.

It houses historical paintings from the National Gallery collection, related to the Greek War Independence (1821-1829), thus giving the historical character of the city of Nafplion, as the first capital of Greece, palpable form. The annex also comprises a temporary exhibition gallery The Nafplio Annexe present an exhibition dedicated to the work of Maria Filopoulou, titled Freedom, on view in the museum’s temporary exhibitions gallery. Through fifteen paintings and two sculptures, Maria Filopoulou conveys a profound inner drive for creation, portraying representational, lived-in environments under luminous skies and Mediterranean suns. Her works celebrate human presence and evoke the fullness of nature, immersed in rhythm and radiant light

Nestled on the southwest side of Syntagma Square, Vouleftiko stands as a significant landmark in Greek history. Originally constructed in 1730 as a mosque during the Second Turkish occupation, this remarkable building transitioned into the first parliament of Greece in September 1825. Its striking architecture features dressed grey stone and an impressive domed roof, with legends suggesting that materials from the Tomb of Agamemnon were incorporated into its design.
It was the first parliament of Greece, when the Nauplio was the capital of the country. It is located at the beautiful central square of the town. Historical place, the building has nice architecture. Unfortunately, it was closed the day i tried to visit indoor space of the building.

The Komboloi Museum in Nafplio is a small but fascinating museum dedicated to the Greek worry beads known as komboloi. Established by Aris Evangelinos, it features over 1,000 unique and intricately crafted komboloi, showcasing their cultural significance and artistry. The well-curated collection includes komboloi from the 1700s to the present day, made of materials such as amber, coral, ivory, ebony, or bone.
I have no words to describe the experience that I lived in this place. Visiting for the first time I got mesmerized by music, atmosphere, smell and history of tradition of this magnificent place. The kind lady there who helped us, is truly a teacher of art, Greek language, a time traveler that takes you along at this trip. I was totally fascinated with the small details like their own perfume that they use on kompoloi and mpegleri, that brings to mind Greece in a poetic way. Definitely a store that serves tradition with respect, knowledge and makes your shopping an incredible experience. Thank you for making our day so special!!! You truly deserve all 5 stars and more!

Overall a good beach to spend time and enjoy the sea. Sandy beach with clear water, 5 minutes by car from the city. It is big and there are some spots with shade. The only thing that I didn't like is that you can find a lot of cigarette butts in the sand and some trash here or there.

Mitty Grill Restaurant is a great place to go for meat-free gyros and souvlaki. They have a two-page vegan section, which makes it one of the most extensive vegan menus in town. The environment can be chaotic at times, but the food is always worth it.
Artistic atmosphere, lovely design, very good service and above all - great food! The lamb chops were juicy and tender, the chicken giros was tasty and crispy, and the French fries were freshly home-made.

We were a little hesitant to eat here due to some negative reviews but it came highly recommended from a local so we gave it a shot. We were very pleased. A nice location with indoor and outdoor seating. The food was excellent with generous portions. Our favorite was the grilled feta. I recommend ordering it with pita.
John Z — Google review
I recomend the restaurant to everyone. They have a wide menu (with nice and suitable pictures), the food is delicious and we had really nice service. The decoration of the restaurant is really nice too.
Jon P — Google review
Food was okay, nothing really special to be honest. You can eat pretty okay yes.. but I didn’t like that everything cost extra. They brought a salad but bread wasn’t included, some oil 50ml costs directly 2€. Then we had the kontosouvli, which was pretty good BUT zero sauce, no tzatziki.. not even a lemon.. For the prices we paid, something should have been included. Other restaurants nearby are cheaper and include some extras..
Theo M — Google review
We ordered beer, water, coke Zero, zucchini fritters which were delicious, mitato salad which was delicious, chicken gyros, pork gyros and Dakos salad (terrible, not sure why it's called a salad - it's mostly soggy bread with a bit of tomato and fetta cheese on top) We were quite disappointed that the gyros had no sauce whatsoever which made eating them very dry. A little sauce would have made all the difference. The staff was friendly.
Chere A — Google review
What an amazing restaurant We had the grilled vegetables for for lunch, which came with pita bread and an amazing balsamic vinegar dressing We also ordered a portion of pork souvlaki, which came with chips and pita bread We had an Amstel Radler (lemon beer) a bottle of Coke and a bottle of water and whole bill came to just €17 ! Staaf for a really nice Lovely outside, seating with fans, but also air-conditioning inside with a really pretty interior Highly recommend this place
Ed P — Google review
Service and atmosphere is very nice! The food is below medium. We ordered the gyros, unfortunately it was a bit dry. In the menu it said the gyros comes with tzatziki, onions and tomato. Ours did not, we had to order and pay for it as a side. (Not a complaint, only an observation: Every other place we’ve been expects no tip and give either an ice cream/dessert/shot after you pay. Here they asked for a tip and didn’t “give” us anything) Very cosy place in a cosy street!
Viktor I — Google review
My wife said, "the perfect lunch!". I added, "Perfect service! Perfect atmosphere!" Walked in at 2PM, ordered two simple lunches for two persons each (souvlaki, pita, fries plus Fanta Lemon drink, all for two.) Added to the order one small bottle of Ouzo, which we mixed with the Fanta to share together. Yummy! Mitato offers both inside and streetside seating. Menu includes gluten-free options, too! We will recommend to all our friends! They will not be disappointed in any way!

Restaurant
Taverna Vyzantio is a charming little restaurant located in the Old Town of Nafplio, offering a delightful mix of Greek and Serbian cuisines. The alfresco tables are surrounded by colorful bougainvillea, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is known for its delicious dishes, including hand-cut potatoes, handmade appetizers, coal-roasted meats, stuffed tomatoes & peppers, fresh dorada and more.
Perhaps the best and cheapest dinner we had on our Greece trip. We passed by the day before and saw a restaurant full of happy diners (not just drinkers and smokers) which tells us we might find a good dinner here. We were right. We got seated in the window and it was awfully romantic. Rosé was good and cheap. All dishes had simple but good ingredients and were seasoned just right. Tasted like the best of home-cooking. If you were not sure between options, ask the owner and he won’t hesitate to pick for you. Highlights were the feta baked in phyllo drizzled in honey (a crispy parcel top and bottom), a parchment baked tomato feta olive and pepper thing, and the moussaka accompanied by a simple salad of shredded lettuce. This is going to change how I make moussaka at home forever. Lots of families dining here with small children. It was wonderful.

Certainly one of the best traditional taverns / restaurants in Nafplio, in our experience. Food is great (and an incredible value, once you see the receipt!), atmosphere is amazing, especially if you get the table under a tree, with adventurous stray kittens crawling all over it. Konstantin the waiter is super friendly and generous, to the point where we exchanged the numbers. Who knows, maybe we'll meet again at some point! We went to this little gem three times during our week's stay, that also says a lot. Could not recommend more!
Ray J — Google review
It was a rainy day and lentil soup was appropriately on their daily specials menu. We added their signature salad and bread and had a perfect rainy afternoon experience. The food was delicious and the service was stellar. We had luckily chosen to dine at an inside table so we could just watch the raindrops fall. You won’t go wrong if you order anything or everything on the daily specials menu. A cozy spot down one of the narrow lanes that is well worth searching out.

Our ship detoured to Nafplio so I wasn’t prepared. This is one of the nicest tavernas in the area. Food was incredible and the service was excellent. The Greek salad just burst with flavor and the grilled shrimp were excellent. Such a lovely meal here.

Best in Nafplion and Spetses so far. Found a picture of Imam in a review, not on the menu. Staff was kind to ask the chef if he could make it. It was delicious. Better food than many restaurants we tried that were recommended by guidebooks. If considering the price, even better.

Incredible restaurant. Charming. Friendly staff. Affordable. Incredible food. This is as good as it gets. Greece in all its glory. We had the mussels and the homemade sausages with some bread and tzatziki.

Under a tree porch you find delicious food, amazing service and great cat and kitten entertainment! Amazing food - seriously the best place Ive eaten in the past week in Greece. Great ambiance and superb service! If you come, try out the specials of the day - wished I had time to take a photo, but my stomach knew better!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We visited Taverna Vyzantio based on a recommendation from a Greek friend, and it did not disappoint! The outdoor tables create a unique atmosphere, and the heaters made it comfortable to enjoy our meal even in cooler weather. We tried a variety of mezze and pork souvlaki—everything was fresh and cooked to order. The ingredients were top quality, and the service was impeccable. A fantastic lunch experience that I would highly recommend!

Breakfast restaurant
Kalimera, located on the Terzaki pedestrian street, is a charming breakfast spot that serves a delightful morning meal until midday. The cozy eatery offers an array of delectable options such as pies, homemade bread, honey and marmalades, omelettes, rusks, cheeses, and charcuterie along with coffee and juices. With its warm atmosphere and traditional Greek menu, Kalimera provides a sweet start to the day in a small yet inviting setting.
We had the traditional Greek breakfast, everything is home freshly made and soooo tasty! The hot chocolate is also amazing!
Shir L — Google review
Lovely breakfast place! Staff is very kind and food home made with fresh ingredients! Well done and worth a breakfast before heading to the beach!
Dan A — Google review
Breakfast at KALIMERA: Great Quality, High Price We recently visited KALIMERA for breakfast and found our experience to be a mix of highs and lows. Atmosphere and Service: The restaurant is beautifully situated in a charming alley, which provides a genuinely lovely atmosphere. The service staff were polite and efficient, which certainly added to the positive start of our meal. The Food: The dishes we ordered were tasty overall. We tried the Kagianas (a Greek specialty of scrambled eggs, feta, and crushed tomatoes) and the four-egg sausage omelet. The French toast was particularly excellent—a large, well-made portion that was perfectly sweetened. The fresh orange juice, black tea, and hot chocolate were all refreshing. However, we did find some items to be on the dry side, suggesting they would benefit greatly from an accompanying sauce or yogurt. Value: Our biggest disappointment was the pricing. We felt the cost of the breakfast was a bit overpriced for what was offered. Conclusion: We would recommend KALIMERA for its high quality food and charming atmosphere, but we advise future travelers to carefully consider the menu prices before committing to a meal here.

The best place for breakfast in town! They offer an assortment of breakfast foods- bread, cake, yogurt, eggs and delicious homemade jams. They make everything from scratch here and you can tell they care about the quality of their food. The atmosphere is also fantastic- super cute with a home feel, and the service is friendly.

For me one of the best experiences in Greece, for sure. The Greek traditional breakfast was heavy with many small dishes and flavours to try, but that's what you get if you want the real experience. And the place is super nice.

Gallika Salon de Thé & French Bakery is a centrally located spot with a lovely park view, offering a limited but delicious variety of breakfast delicacies. Renowned for its authentic French croissants, which are made to order and in limited quantities, this bakery is the perfect place to savor the scents and flavors of France.
Central location with park view. Butter croissant was tasty but the best part was The chocolate croissant. It was very tasty and you can't find similar taste in Greece. Freddo espresso 2.5€ and greek coffee around 2.30€.

Two stars because the food is very basic and totally overpriced. I got the most basic ham & cheese toast for €6. Was meant to come with a side salad which literally was 2 cherry tomatoes put next to a toast in the takeaway box. I can't imagine anyone buying the breakfast set for €18 or granola with fruit for €11. It has lots of great reviews from a while ago when they seemed to have a normal priced menu. I've taken pics of the most recent menu from today. The lady who served me seemed nice. Coffee is great but on the expensive side too. But the overall value is just exaggerated. I can't understand the pricing. I would go back for a coffee but skip the sandwiches.

We visited this fabulous bakery many times during our stay in Nafplio. The butter croissants and chocolate croissants rival any I have had in France. The demi baguettes are wonderful with butter and fresh preserves or excellent for sandwiches! Everything is good. The owner does all his own baking daily. You must try this place for yourself!
LINDA M — Google review
This place has some of the best French pastries and bread that I've ever had anywhere. Yes it is expensive by Greek standards. But what they are doing is not average. They are turning out high quality pastries and so you should expect to pay a premium price for that. I would definitely go back if I'm ever in town again. We came here twice in a row. And then we also took pictures and bread to go. They are the real deal.
Desiree G — Google review
This place was recommended to me by other tourists. Very nice French couple that run this place. Also nice to see that they work in harmony, he bakes, she serves. Bread was really good and the croissants as well. Will return. Decor slightly sober.

Day 5

Keep it simple
For day 5, these 7 places should be enough to fill your day with something exciting to do in Nafplio. Start the day with Akronafplia's Castle and make your way through the city to get to Acronafplia Pension A. This should take about 7 hours of your day.

Akronafplia's Castle

Castle
Nafplio, a charming coastal town in Greece, is home to several historical sites including the impressive Palamidi fortress, Bourtzi Castle in the bay, and Akronafplia Castle. The town's neoclassical architecture reflects its history as the first capital of modern Greece. While wandering through the old town, visitors can explore churches and museums before heading to Akronafplia Castle, which has been transformed into an upscale hotel.
Approximately 912 steps until the main entrance in the Castle if you choose to walk to the top - that is the case you didn’t go to the gym in the morning or you decided that this is the place where you want to start your exercising journey. If that’s not the case then you can take a taxi or drive to the top and from the parking lot you can explore the beauty of the castle! It is not wheelchair accessible and you have to be in shape to go around! Suitable for children however in certain places you need to make sure they are supervised because they might have an accident! How my husband is characterizing the spot ? “The perfect murder place” 😒 the views are amazing, you can enjoy some beautiful moment just by sitting down and watching the sea and the mountains around! Don’t forget to search for the prison of Kolokotronis!
Iza H — Google review

Very nice castle! Unfortunately, as it happens 4 times out of 5, the place has garbage lying around. I sincerely don’t understand why Greece has so much plastic and garbage just left here there and everywhere. Is it a matter of zero education? The view is amazing!
G T — Google review
Great place for a panoramic view of Nafplio , quite a bit of uphill climbing, worth the effort!
Joseph P — Google review
The point of view maybe worth the visit, but was really the most dirty and abandoned place of the city. From broken street lights and garbage to condoms. The archeological site was completely abandoned and tourists were trying to find a way through the vegetation. Its simply a question, what does the municipality do for this place? It's a shame.
Left D — Google review
Nice castel It is abandond and the entrance is free. Astonishing view over Nafplio and the surrounding seas Very interesting to stroll by if you love archiological sights
Anais I — Google review
Castello di Akronafplia - Even if it's such dirty and abandoned place, the landscape from the top of the castle worth the visit. Coastal area, beach, Palamidi, old city... what a VIEW ! -

Central Bakery Old Town is a highly recommended spot for a delicious breakfast or meal. The breakfast specials are known for their generous portions, so be prepared for a hearty meal. One of the highlights is the baklava, which is described as the biggest and fluffiest around. Visitors rave about the fantastic mixed nut baklava, making it a must-try when visiting this bakery.
A delicious bakery! So much so that we went here twice during our 3 day trip. The cheesecake and sandwiches were excellent. So many delicious items we wish we had time to try. Definitely recommend.

Great bakery. It was close to our vacation rental in Old Town, so we tried a variety of pastries and desserts over our stay. Everything was fresh and delicious! Prices were reasonable. Staff was very pleasant. I accidentally ordered the wrong type of coffee and the gentleman who prepared it took the time to explain the differences between the coffee drinks, which I appreciated.

Amazing pain au chocolat. Went there twice to get them. I saw several comment about the staff and they were actually really nice. Seems to me they struggle a little with their english and that why they might seems cold.

Lovely spot for early cappuccino (opens 7am) before you kill yourself going up Palimidi. Huge array of fresh baked pastries (at 8am the baker was still putting finishing touches), savory to sweet. I had the the oozy buttery apple tart croissant. Locals buy out their pastries really quickly. The butter cookies are the best of three I tried.

Went two nights on the trot at 10:20 (website says closes at 11:00) only to be told by the same girl that “we are shut”. All the lights on and still serving locals. Very disappointing. Didn’t think those sort of attitudes still existed. Both nights moved on to L’amande and received a lovely welcome and great cake. Avoid Old Central Bakery if you aren’t local.

**Delightful Desserts and Exceptional Service at Central Boulangerie in Nafplio** During our stay in Nafplio, we had the pleasure of visiting Central Bakery Old Town on two consecutive evenings, and each visit was a delightful experience. The young lady who assisted us both nights was exceptionally kind and provided us with a wealth of information about the local sweets. We indulged in a variety of traditional desserts, including those made with kataifi pastry, as well as other typical sweets. The highlight, however, was the orange cake – it was absolutely phenomenal! Each treat was a perfect blend of flavors and textures, showcasing the bakery's commitment to quality. We highly recommend this place to anyone with a sweet tooth visiting Nafplio. The friendly and informative service, combined with the exquisite desserts, makes this bakery a must-visit destination. We can't wait to return for more delicious treats!

AWESOME pottery store!! The artist is super kind and patient, she showed us the details of how she makes the lanterns in her workshop at the back of the studio. We got some things to bring back home and she was meticulous and patient when packing it so it wouldn't break on the trip back. 100% recommend getting something here if you want a nice souvenir or decoration. Will come back for sure!

Nestled between charming cafes and just a stone's throw from the Archaeological Museum, the Church of Panagia is a true gem in Nafplio. This stunning church, dedicated to the Birth of the Virgin Mary, boasts a rich history dating back to the 15th century. Originally built during Venetian rule, it has since been transformed into an exquisite three-aisle basilica featuring an intricately carved wooden reredos.
If you are in Nafplio, be sure to visit this very old and beautiful church just behind the old barracks. Please note that the church is still in use and you should enter the building respectfully and in appropriate clothing.

If you're in the lovely town of Nafplion, be sure to visit the church of Panagia. It is a lovely Greek orthodox church but not a typical one since it doesn't have a dome but still amazing. It's nice to notice these differences 😊 The church is small like a typical orthodox church, it's dedicated to the virgin Mary but you'll still see pictures of other saints. This church is stunning, you'll want to stay for a while in order to feel that sense of peace.

(Translated by Google) One of the oldest surviving buildings from the period of the first Ottoman rule is the Old Mosque, which adorns the city center of Nafplio. The "Trianon", known to all Nafplio residents, a beautiful building that characterizes Syntagma Square, was a place of religion during the period of Turkish rule. The mosque was simple, without special features, dedications or decorations with large minarets and was located in the district of the Grand Vizier or in the district of the Sultan Ahmet's khan, in the center of the city's market. The "Trianon" is probably one of the authentic Ottoman mosques built during the first Ottoman period. In 1687, during the Venetian rule, it was converted, like most mosques, into a Christian church dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, a donation by the Venetian commander-in-chief Francesco Morosini. During the second Ottoman period, it was used again as a Muslim mosque. In 1833, the first Co-educational Boys' School was housed. In 1915, it was converted into a conservatory and theater, and then into a municipal cinema under the name "Trianon", a name it retains to this day. It is one of the smallest theaters in the city. It is a building with a simple rectangular floor plan, whose dome is octagonal. Its entrance has a columned porch housed by three small domes. To the west of the building there was a small courtyard, which does not survive today. Due to the various uses, the building has undergone many changes from its original form. The old mosque is perhaps the oldest surviving example of Ottoman architecture in the city of Nafplio. Today, theatrical performances, art exhibitions and many schools hold their events. The reason I gave it 3*** is that the building has been left to its own devices on the outside and the signs of its abandonment are obvious. It would be good if the mayor or the regional government dealt with it.

Bed & breakfast
Acronafplia Pension A is a historic fortress located in Nafplio, Greece, offering a delightful and culturally enriching experience for visitors. The accommodation features fabulous rooms with small private outdoor areas, providing a cozy and stunning atmosphere. The host is known for being very friendly and helpful. Situated at the top of the old town, the pension offers panoramic views but requires climbing some steps. Guests can enjoy breakfast served in their room or on the front terrace.
Most welcoming, homey, cozy, stunning, hotel I have ever been to. I stayed here one night, but I could’ve spent my entire trip in this hotel in Nafplio and had been just as satisfied, I am convinced. It wasn’t just a hotel; it was an experience. Waking up to my balcony looking on the port with the mountains in the distance, birds chirping, and a beautiful and delicious Greek breakfast, it was one for the books and I will definitely have to come back to again.

Really nice! Romantic, beautiful views. The town was really cool. Be ready for stairs.
Average J — Google review
When reserving the room on Booking.com it stated that parking was available. However, upon arrival we were directed to a public parking lot at the fort. We later received a $100 fine from the police. It’s possible we were in a yellow zone, but we were unfamiliar with the area and parked with the assistance of a hotel staff member, who met us at the lot and even helped us park. We did not realize this would be considered illegal parking. The hotel is fabulous and the staff is so kind! We will return with better knowledge of no parking.

Beautiful old building with a great view from the balconies. Excellent location with a view of the old town centre. Well furnishes rooms. We had two rooms of which one had a new bathroom, but the other had an old bathroom with little space. The soap dispensers in both rooms were not clean and would require a serious overhaul.

Fabulous room with a small private (except for the parrot 🤣) outdoor area. Room is big with seating area and bathroom. The host is very friendly and helpful. The accommodation is at the top of the old town so steps are involved (a decent amount) but not too bad if you are average fit. Our room included breakfast, would've been nicer if breakfast was less bread and more fruit and yoghurt, but decent enough. Breakfast can be served in your room or out on the front terrace. Recommended place to stay.
Jay T — Google review
We were lost finding this place as many other visitors. But once we found it, we were pleased - a large if old fashion room with 3 windows of sea views, including the harbor. Steps are involved to get to the harbor but I didn't mind because of the views. The room was not visited by cleaners during our 3 night stay. Linens have little natural fabric. I found breakfast carb heavy.

Charming historical guesthouse very well located and with a very welcoming host. Our room was great with a lot of character, the breakfasts are plentiful, the view is very nice, it all made our stay in Napflio very pleasant

The restaurant Kakanarakis 1986 consistently produces excellent food. The wine list is reasonable, and the portions are huge. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is colorful and lively.
What are the top cheesecakes in the world! Absolutely unbelievably delicious. After a perfectly done steak lovely salad cheese buys for appetizers ate way too much food, but it was every bite superbly delicious and wonderful. Cannot say enough about the great Service and the tremendously delicious food.
Kevin B — Google review
Everything tasted very good, nothing exceptional though. The sausage enfance was definitely our best choice. The portions were all very large and we (six people) struggled to finish everything. The salads, while being rather plain, were quite tasty and also a very filling portion.
Albane T — Google review
Magnificent restaurant! Wonderful food with the chef’s touch on classic Greek food. Quiet shaded setting on a side street away from the bustle of the waterfront with great service. Daily specials are an added bonus. PS the French fries are the best we had in Greece
Paul B — Google review
This restaurant is tucked away on a pedestrian street, offering a quiet and relaxed atmosphere far from the noise of traffic. It features both indoor and outdoor seating, making it ideal for any season or mood. Service was impeccable attentive, polite, and efficient throughout our visit. From the menu, the absolute highlight was the dolmadakia avgolemono (vine leaves with egg-lemon sauce). Truly one of the best versions I’ve ever tasted rich, balanced, and full of flavor. As for the main courses, we tried the beef chuck steak and veal T-bone steak. While both were cooked properly, the cuts themselves lacked depth of flavor and were among the least memorable steaks I’ve had. Still, the overall experience was pleasant, especially thanks to the serene setting and excellent service. Worth visiting and definitely don’t skip the dolmadakia!

Tasty food, fast and friendly service. They are not pushy to get you inside, but happy to explain you their offers. Beer served as well in iced glass 😋

A nice place, but I was disappointed. The food was okay. The meat was tough, but nothing special. The sauces and condiments were heavy. Very touristy. The bread was soggy, and we asked for it to be toasted, but they told us the kitchen was busy, but there were only five tables occupied. The place was practically empty. An excuse...🤨

I will not come back, first bad experience after 10 great greek restaurants. Not just a typical tourist trap, but they also have sketchy techniques to charge more from people: *lamb was ok but not good value for the price (20€ just with potatoes with it). *Nice atmosphere, not traditional though, no greek songs playing at all just international ones. *We cannot sit where we wish, even though the place was empty. *Waiter smoking electric cigarette inside the place. *They silently put a water bottle on the table like all other greek restaurants that I've been, but this sketchy place charges for them in the end. *After the waiter just put the card machine for me to pay, I asked for the receipt paper to check what was being charged, and he looked at me with a weird face asking "why?". *When asked why the water was being charged, they started getting aggressive and pissed complaining, was quite uncomfortable and I do not recommend to anyone. We put 2 stars instead of 1 because the goat cheese salad was great and 1 waiter was quite attentive - the one who offered a plate when we were sharing some of the salad.

A wonder restaurant which serves tradition Greek food which is beautifully presented. The local litre of wine for €9 !!!!! (Yes eat your heart out new york where $40 a bottle seems to be the normal) and huge portions of food for a fraction of the price of food in Athens was amazing. I hope the photos say it all. Friendly service and a pretty location in a lively part of Nafplion.

Ice cream shop
Located in the heart of Nafplion, Antica Gelateria di Roma is a traditional Italian ice cream shop offering a wide range of authentic gelato and sorbet flavors. Owned by Marcello Raffo, the shop produces its ice cream on-site using the original Sicilian recipe and natural ingredients. The variety of flavors, sundaes, special shakes, and coffees are diverse and enticing.
Beyond a 5 stars rating if I could!! Truly an experience like no other! Fresh authentic Italian Gelato and Sorbet! The owner is the real deal!!!! Thank you for amazing service and out of this world, gelato!! A must visit in Nafplio, Greece

‼️This place is just a tourist trap.‼️ I asked to sample the pistachio flavor, but the lady informed me that they don’t offer tastings. I then asked her in a nice way, if the gelato was made using an authentic Italian recipe, and she assured me it was. Well, it definitely wasn't. The gelato was watery, overly green, and tasted like an artificial mix with some whipped cream on top. It was so bad that I ended up throwing it away. To make matters worse, the cashier was rude, only asking for the 9€ payment without a word of courtesy. Even after I said thank you, I received no response. It was the worst 9€ I’ve ever spent on gelato. It's NO coincidence that so many people mention the same things in their comments below. - Luckily, we found a proper pistachio gelato just 300 meters away at Gelateria di Piazza.

Delicious gelato in Nafplio with excellent service! We even tried sugar-free options with stevia, and the traditional Italian cassata – tutto perfetto!

It's a super delicious and nourishing ice-cream I have ever tried. There are gelato ice-cream and fruit sorbet. I chose the first one a small but not the smallest portion. And it totally filled me up. I recommend.

The ice cream is good enough for its price, but definitely had better both in Italy and Greece. However it was enjoyable and the people working there were extremely sweet! I would recommend the nocciola flavor.

Small plates restaurant
Nestled just a short stroll from Constitution Square, The Corner of Kavalaris is a delightful dining spot in Nafplio that perfectly captures the essence of traditional Greek cuisine. This stylish restaurant offers an extensive menu featuring a variety of dishes, including meat, seafood, and vegetarian options. Guests are greeted with warm smiles and attentive service, making for an inviting atmosphere.
Charming restaurant with a medium sized patio covered in with a glass wall to keep the rain and cold out and a indoor dining area. It was a cold rainy evening in early spring. They had the heaters off which made it a bit cold but not terribly uncomfortable. The heat would have made it perfect. Small tapas sized plates and a nice wine menu. A 500ml carafe of wine was only €4. We ordered 6 dishes between the 3 of us and were stuffed. The food was all excellent and we enjoyed everything. The service was prompt and pleasant even though they were quite busy. Highly recommended and would visit again just to try out the other food on the menu.
Farhad M — Google review
We had a thoroughly enjoyable meal here during our March trip. We were able to get a table right away. We ordered a few too many things, each of which was enjoyable, though the Kavalaris salad was a definitely highlight for me. Would definitely return here again, with no hesitations.

Best Greek food in Nafplio by far. Very tasty food, traditional and the portions are huge. Everything we had from souvlaki pork, to Greek salad in tortilla wrap was great. Normal prices, affordable. 😊
Theo M — Google review
The food was overall quite good — especially the appetizers and any dishes with sauce, which were flavorful and well-prepared. Anything served without sauce or a dip, however, was unfortunately very dry. The chicken breast with mashed potatoes was so dry it was almost inedible, though the mashed potatoes themselves were excellent — so good, in fact, that we ordered a second serving. The service, on the other hand, was disappointing. The staff seemed inattentive and often hard to find — we had to call them over for everything: to place our order, to reorder, for the check, even for the neighboring table to order. Also worth noting: bread and olive oil are charged separately, even for very young children, which felt a bit excessive. Overall: a classic tourist spot — worth trying once for the experience, but probably not a place we’d return

A great restaurant and tavern that serves traditional Greek food along with some special dishes. It's located in a nice part of town, close to the sea and the old city, and has a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. We ordered grilled feta cheese, fava, tzatziki, kavalaris homemade meat dish, and wine. Everything we ate was really tasty. The staff was friendly and worked efficiently. Highly recommended place to visit.
ALEX B — Google review
We stopped by for a quick lunch and had the Greek salads and tzatziki, both were very good. The place was busy, which says a lot; it seems people are truly voting with their feet. A great spot for a fresh and tasty meal!

This restaurant is one of the best in the old-town pedestrial road of Nauplio!! It takes place behind the old square of Syntagmatos!! The waiter welcomed you with a smile and was so polite!! Catalog has a lot of options and a variety of dishes (meat/veggies/fish/salates and more). For our lunch we ordered a "koukouvagia" salad (like greek ntakos), mushrooms with cheese and bacon inside, aubergine with cheese fantastic! And final as main dishes porn and steak with potatoes and mashed potatoes!! The quality of our dishes and quantity was perfect for 2 people (always in addition with their prize)!! At the end we hoped to serve dessert or fruit but we were disappointed... In general the place totally deserves a 5-star review!! Totally Recommended!! :)

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Nafplio, Teory stands out as a trendy spot that perfectly embodies the all-day bar concept. Whether you're craving a cozy coffee or looking to unwind with drinks, this charming venue has you covered. With its inviting atmosphere and lovely bar area, it's an ideal choice for both locals and visitors alike. The ambiance is lively yet relaxed, making it perfect for any occasion—be it a rainy day or a sunny afternoon on their outdoor terrace.
Modern bar restaurant with real comfortable chairs. It’s in the center of old town. The bathrooms were immaculate. Our server worked tirelessly to set up for the evening. She always kept our chip bowl full. We ordered the house special pizza which was delicious and she boxed up our leftovers. What I also liked was that the music was in the background so you could easily have a conversation. Stella Artois bier on tap was their standard. Free wifi, too. This establishment is a great venue to relax with friends.

The food was amazing but the cinnamon rolls were quite hard and stuck to the plate after 10 minutes. They were all tasty though and the girl who served us was really nice and kind. Would recommend visiting here !

Went for lunch/brunch. Good coffee but food was pretty bad. A terrible, inedible chicken burger with cold, limp fries and an awful eggs Benedict with brown (yes, brown) avocado. Got the order wrong. Slow service too - and the place wasn’t full. Very disappointing. Assuming it’s all about drinks in the evening. But there are far better places in Nafplio, that’s for sure.

Terrible!!! It looks nice from the outside and inside, but the food and service are a joke! We ordered the orzo pasta with parmesan, truffle oil and mushrooms. We canceled the mushrooms. We also ordered brushetta caprese. The food arrived quickly, which is strange. As two vegetarians, we naturally thought that the pasta was vegetarian because it only listed: parmesan, truffle fries, creamy mushrooms. The pasta came with chicken. We returned it and got new ones. It tasted like rice pudding! Mushy and disgusting! When the bruschetta came to the table, the waitress dropped a slice. She just smiled stupidly and didn't offer to bring us new ones. Which should be a matter of course. We both also work in service in restaurants and that is the minimum. When we ordered new food because it wasn't our fault, we were charged for it anyway. Fortunately, after a long discussion, we didn't have to pay for it.
Lene J — Google review
Club sandwich was one of the worst on par if not worse than Goody’s. Omelette was undercooked inside and overcooked on the outside.
Tazi T — Google review
The chairs were comfy, the outside area was heated and the waitress was very sweet. That is pretty much the good part of it. The fresh orange juice was made by very old oranges. The pancakes were weird. The apples and the syrope was ok but the pancakes themselves felt like they were made of floor, paper and water. Didnt finish them even though i was desperate for a dessert. The hot tea was good! You won't be disappointed if you order a tea or a beer here, those things don't get "old". The waitress saw that we didnt finish anything, but she asked if we LOVED IT all.... she was too sweet so i lied it was amazing. She is just a server, so..
Dark L — Google review
Nice place, nice service, really bad food! I ordered burger Wich didn't taste like meet at all, it was wired texture and weird taste, and the egg was too cooked, and the French fries was too oily!! My friend had salmon, was oily from outside, not well cooked from inside, and the veggies where cold... I think it's nice for a drink only...
