Bregenz in 3 days

If you only have 3 days to spend in Bregenz, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Bregenz, set on the eastern shore of Lake Constance, combines lakeside scenery with an Alpine backdrop, making it popular for boat trips, hiking, and cycling. The city is best known for the Bregenz Festival, whose striking floating stage hosts large-scale opera and musical productions each summer. Its compact old town and the modern Kunsthaus Bregenz gallery offer a mix of historic charm and contemporary art. A quick ride on the Pfänderbahn cable car gives panoramic views over the lake and into Germany and Switzerland.
With favorites like Bregenzer Festspiele, Sakura sushi bar, and Chen´s Dining Bar, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Restaurant Kornmesser and Isola Bella - Ristorante Pizzeria Gelateria so you can get the best taste of Bregenz while you’re here. Pfänderbahn-Parkhaus is a convenient parking garage for visitors taking the Pfänderbahn cable car to the Pfänder Alpine Wildlife Park in Austria. The cable car offers a short 5-minute ride with stunning views at the top, where visitors can explore mountains for skiing and a kids' playground area. It's an ideal family attraction, offering fresh air and spectacular mountain views.
Great afternoon out. Amazing views and walking opportunities. One thing to note is that the cheeper family ticket was only available at the booth and not the ticket machines
Ok4301 — Google review
Wonderful areas along with scenic view from the ropeway or cable car. The place is in Austria but from there you’ll see the Germany as well as Switzerland. For those who would like to do one day trip this is the best place to roaming around with friends and family.
Oza P — Google review
Great place to visit if you're in Austria. The cable car is 1 big cable car that is shared with others at the same or similar time as you. Not a long ride, 5 minutes to the other side and you can nice views. When you reach the other side you can come straight back or you can get off and explore as there is mountains where you can do skiing there, there is also a kids playground area there which was useful for the kids. There is a wildlife park with small animals you can enter this as it comes with the ticket option if you chose this option. Good prices as I was expecting more. For 2 kids and 2 adults it cost £27 cable car and back and to see the wildlife park.
Fatima U — Google review
The parking in an issue here at the weekend The price doesn’t worth the visit, kids didn’t have that much fun with animals hiking down though was great but a bit slippery and not easy for kids it took us around 1:30 hours but was very tricky
My R — Google review
Beautiful views and nice walk to see the animals on the mountain
Yoni L — Google review
Great day trip. Stunning views. Lovely restaurant where you can rest have some food and a coffee. Outdoor seating. There's a little wild animal zoo and slides for the younger visitors. Great outing for the whole family. Reasonable prices.
Anneka D — Google review
Good place to visit ! You can get a breath taking view from the top. Although would recommend you to buy a ticket only one way either upwards to the summit and enjoy the stroll while returning to the city
Srinivas S — Google review
The Cabel car experience was very good. It was quite crowded as it’s summer and we had to wait for a long time for our turn to come. The ride was quite good and the view of the whole Switzerland was amazing.

Pfänderbahn

4.7
(2884)
Mountain cable car
Pfänderbahn is a cable car that takes you to the summit of Pfande mountain, standing at 1064 meters above Bregenz. The ride offers breathtaking views of the Bregenz Forest, the Rhine valley, and the Black Forest. At the top, visitors can explore a wildlife park and enjoy dining with panoramic views. For those seeking adventure, there are hiking trails to explore as well.
Return ticket of 18 euros was a bit pricey but the views were worth it. The cable car can fit a lot of people, can be a bit crowded on the way up. However, the small zoo on the top is really nice with beautiful views. There is also small Kiosk where you can buy souvenirs and some snacks. Make sure to visit the very top of the mountain above the landing as the walk up is also quite interesting but short.
Armin D — Google review
An amazing experience to ride to the top and see some of the most beautiful scenery. Our kids enjoyed the entire walk around the wildlife park and eating some delicious ice cream at the top. The main restaurant was a little pricey for the quality of the food, and is primarily a cash restaurant too!
Charles S — Google review
Heavenly!! The view is breathtaking! There are small restaurants and an animal park at the top. Many walking/hiking trails from the top.. Pfänderbahn costs single trip €12 and return €18. If you are planning to travel by cruise from the German sides, check the Combi-Ticket offer on the BSB website!
Vivek P — Google review
Great experience with cable car. It’s absolutely beautiful view from hill. In summer/ season time it’s quite busy and gastronomy opened. There is also a small zoo, one can also hike a lot on nature. One stat less - the lady at reception was quite ignorant! She was talking on someone private and didn’t even bother to talk to guests first 🙄🙄
Raghu T — Google review
What a wonderful trip! A spotlessly clean waiting area before travelling up the mountain in this cable car. We were rewarded with spectacular views and a nice restaurant cafe at the top. Well worth the trip
Diana R — Google review
A great experience from start to finish! The Pfänderbahn runs smoothly and offers stunning views over Lake Constance and the Alps during the ride. It’s quick, comfortable, and a fun way to reach the top of the Pfänder without much effort. The staff were friendly, everything was well organized, and the price felt fair for the experience. Definitely worth it if you’re visiting Bregenz!
Jack F — Google review
We had a nice few hours up here. The paths were a bit hard on my hip, which is due a replacement. We went around the wild park and ate at the restaurant which was nice. We got free parking included in the cost too. I think 18€ per adult is ok. The views were amazing.

Situated in the heart of Bregenz, Austria, the Vorarlberg Museum underwent a major renovation and reopened in 2013. The museum's modern and dynamic design features a striking white cuboid adorned with an impressive display of 16,656 flowers made from PET bottle bases imprinted in concrete. It offers permanent exhibitions that delve into Vorarlberg's history, art, and architecture, including a showcase of Roman archaeological finds from Brigantium.
Fantastic régional museum! A must visit
Nora J — Google review
Worthwhile museum about the history of the region.
Dirk — Google review
A museum featuring various installations and local history. If you're not careful you may end up taking a few hours to see everything that's exhibitioned because there's a lot to see. The architecture of the whole building is incredible as well! Worth a visit if you're interested in art, local history and various other types of art.
Winke — Google review
I was disappointed. It is beautiful and well displayed, but i found the part about Roman history very shallow, and mostly aimed at children.
Frederic L — Google review
The view room on the fourth floor is breathtaking, the forward art expression intersect the entire museum.
Zachary H — Google review
Mix of temporary, general-interest exhibitions and permanent installations focused on local history. Both the architecture and exhibit style is state of the art; the archaeological section has been made especially child-friendly and immersive. A "secret" panorama room on the top floor gives a great view of happenings on the promenade and across Lake Constance. Overall the experience is varied and enjoyable not only for the exbihits themselves. The Vorarlberg Museum is a much easier way to pass time on a wet afternoon than the Kunsthaus. The ground floor cafe is always very lively and in a great location for people-watching.

A must-see for everyone interested in modern art and architecture. The personnel was extremely friendly, the toilets and the museum were clean and the exhibition by Jordan Wolfson blew my mind. You eventually have to wait a few minutes before being able to enter the last attraction (which isn't shown in the photos) but trust me, you've never seen anything like it. Definitely worth a visit!
Winke — Google review
Great building if you like your architecture. Weird exhibition but worth it and lovely and cool inside after the heat
Gwil R — Google review
Amazing building, but the current exhibition was very underwhelming, i felt ripped off. There were 3 floors with literally 2 items or showcasing videos in small screens. Please save your money and avoid the Imhof exhibition.
Constantina K — Google review
Good architecture but some materials do not 'dignify in dignity' as Zumthor would probably say.
Leonie K — Google review
Although the exhibition was not very good the building is totally worth it! Amazing architecture from Peter Zumtor

Seebühne Bregenz

Opera house
Seebühne Bregenz is a remarkable 7000-seat amphitheater that hosts an array of exquisitely produced operas and musical performances, forming part of the renowned Bregenz Festival held annually in July and August. The floating stage, set on Lake Constance, boasts impressive lifelike structures that change with each event. This venue has been honored as the best music theater festival at the International Opera Awards.
I had the absolute pleasure of attending a performance of Freischütz at the Bregenzer Festspiele, and it was an experience I will never forget. Despite the rain, the performance was nothing short of stunning. The stage design was a masterpiece, creating a truly immersive and magical atmosphere. The attention to detail was impeccable, and the way the stage transformed throughout the opera was a marvel to behold. The talented cast delivered powerful and emotive performances that brought the story to life. The music was simply breathtaking, and the overall production was a testament to the artistry and dedication of the Bregenzer Festspiele. I would highly recommend this performance to anyone seeking a truly unforgettable night of opera. It is a must-see for any lover of the arts. Tip: don't forget to bring a raincoat in case of rain.
Armando G — Google review
The Seebühne in Bregenz is a spectacular open-air stage located on Lake Constance, hosting world-renowned performances as part of the Bregenzer Festspiele. With a capacity of 7,000, it offers a unique experience where opera and musicals are performed against the stunning backdrop of the lake. The stage itself is a masterpiece of architecture, often using innovative designs to incorporate the surrounding natural beauty. If you ever have the chance to visit during the festival, it’s an unforgettable experience.
Abdurrahman D — Google review
An experience one should try at least once in their lifetime. There's great theatrical performance and singing. There's animotronics, fire, smoke, acrobatics, synchronized swimming, theater, comedy, intricate stage design and costumes, captivating music, beautiful setting and just a unique experience. Bring binoculars if you have them handy, and something warm for the evening. Stage is open during the day free of charge to the public to view from the stands/seats.
Alina — Google review
We visited today. I was amazed from the quality of the settings. Could be a Hollywood blockbuster. Amazing designer job. If in Bregenz don't miss. There is also a great playground very close by so a visit with kids is also recommended
Doron A — Google review
This years performance of Puccini's Madame Butterfly on the Seebühne in Bregenz was just fantastic. A truly moving, emotional story with a first class cast. Breathtaking opera voices, orchestral accompaniment, sound, lighting stage set and special effects. At sundown, the unique atmosphere of the lakeside stage is especially beautiful 😍
Hugh S — Google review
Every play becomes magical with all the animatronics the people of the opera house build for every show.
Νικόλαος Γ — Google review
Sadly I can't recommend this show unless you really have some leftover money. The stage is really nice but the show itself was just ok and for the money I paid (100euro + extra expenses) I expected more. Ended up leaving the show very disappointed. Apart from the show. The one I attended got cancelled after about 65minutes due to the weather so no refund as it lasted more than an hour. Honestly disgusting behavior as it was already raining for quite a few minutes and even predicted by weather apps. Only selected people (rich people) can enjoy a continued small version on an inside stage. I don't understand why an outdoors theater has no weather backup plan.
Wout ( — Google review
Such an amazing place. Each year different stage. During the day you can enter without buying a ticket. Dog friendly place. For sure will come back there to have much more fun.

We’re very happy about the tasty and vegetable rich meals. they’re big volume but they’re so tasty that we managed to finish them all. The service is also incredibly efficient and friendly, dishes were served very fast👍

Traditional German restaurant with high quality food! The food is delicious and justifies the slightly higher prices applied. Homemade Käsespätzle were delicious, I wish I had more space to try also the made to order Kaiserschmarrn...

A great address in Bregenz to eat the famous wiener schnitzel. A nice house with a typical interior for the winter and an amazing garden in summer. I would love to come here for the food.
Zimmj Z — Google review
Pretty average to be honest. I had some fish, and like the gentleman at the table next to me, it was partly undercooked. The spinach was really good, the fish boring but not bad, the same as the patatoes. Service was surprisingly fast, which is good on one side but worrying on the other: you wonder if the food is cooked fresh. My girlfriend had a totally forgetful schnitzel, which was very disappointing because it's the main reason why we came to this restaurant. To sum up our dinner: fast, average, pretty forgetful.

I had shrimp croquettes as a starter, but there were only 2 gray shrimps in each croquette. the sauce wasn't bad. as a main course I had the mussels but 1 in 4 were not open because they were far too small to do this. My conclusion is too expensive for what you get

We knew going in it would be pricy… but it was worth every penny! Service was first class, food was exceptional and the atmosphere was upmarket without being pretentious. The Coq au Vin was delicious. I was tempted to get the Filet de Bouf and I’m sad I didn’t. It looked amazing… Excellent choice for a special dinner.

Belgium meets Austria- this perhaps describes the Petrus best. Belgian fries, the French influenced cuisine mixed with the cosy flair inside and outside the restaurant in a typical local square. Food and wine are excellent. So is the service. The first of the twelve Apostle, Peter resp. Petrus, has an eye on this place

We went for after work Prosecco here for the first time. It’s a very cool place with unique interior and a wonderful Prosecco. However, we had to wait more than 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged by any member of staff.

First time in town and saw this fantastic location. Vibe is nice and the location is superb. But I just don’t understand how come the service cannot match with the restaurant itself. The two junior waitresses are super sweet, however the one seems more senior, who has the machine to order or pay is just awful. She never smiled at us, ignored when I was waiting to get seated, took her ages to come to us either to order or to pay. And we gave up the idea of eating there, because of her and Peter’s attitude. Only got a drink and then left. Haven’t tried food, so have a neutral 3 star. Ofc won’t come again as visitor, hopefully this comment would help for others
M Q — Google review
Food is alright, but overpriced. Service isn't good. Not recommended if you are looking forward to receiving the order you ordered. Ordered two beers, both times the waiter brought the wrong beer. Even though on the cheque, the correct beer was written. Trappist seeker, don't be trapped by Petrus.

However, it should be noted that the terrace is situated on the side of the street, resulting in considerable noise disturbance. Good people, good food. We had soup, fried rice, sushi and chicken wings. Chicken wings are quite disappointing too much oil and less flesh.

Good looking restaurant with on a good place with 2 hours free parking. I had spring rolls which I did not like so much, sorry and then crispy chicken with mango sauce (sauce was out of this world), which was the house speciality. The food was just OK, but I was awaiting something more special, sorry. And ehm, I was sitting on the place of James Bond, maybe I should try his menu 😅

Very nice place, friednly, tasty and good prices. They accepts cards. Also, Daniel Crage (James Bond) was there once, and they called his order as James Bond menu. We ordered salmon with vegetables, lamb on a stick and James Bond menu. Everything was very good!

Quite enjoyable experience. The duck was slightly dry (but duck is notoriously hard to get right). Sushi was very generous with the fish. Only downside was that the portions came out at very different times.

This is one of the best asian restaurant I have tried in vorarlberg. Is one of my 3 favorite!! I recommended this place to relax and eat delicious!
Dayan R — Google review
I got tricked by the "crispy duck" naming again, cause as in many such restaurants, it just means *dry* duck. It was actually not that bad though, with some soy sauce it turned out really tasty. The thing that *really* caught me off guard was the miso soup though. I guess it's supposed to be sour. But. My god, it was SOUR! I think that taste will stay in my mouth for a few days now. I suppose it's alright to go and eat asian food at, and I guess I don't have any better recommendations in this town, but it doesn't seem like a 4 star rating is fair for this. Personally.

The festival offers a unique Austrian experience with its outdoor dining options and top-rated restaurants serving Italian cuisine, pizza, and more. This cultural extravaganza is highly recommended for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the arts during the summer months in Bregenz.
Saw Der Freischütz at the Bregenzer Festspiele this July and it was absolutely breathtaking. The lake stage, the visuals, the music, everything was so powerful and beautifully done. I didn’t expect to get so emotional, but the story and performances really pulled me in. Even though it was 2 hours straight with no intermission, it never felt long. Such a unique and unforgettable experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!

You have to distinguish between the creative aspects of the Bregenzer Festspiele and the guest experience. The first is worthy of its reputation, the latter is amateurish. The stage, the singing, the costumes, the location are all beyond criticism. I've been four times and, even as someone with no interest in opera, the performance has always been a rewarding experience. Your enjoyment thereof is however undermined by neglected basics: the lack of toilets is laughable (allow 20 minutes of queueing for the gents); the hard, narrow plastic seats hurt within 45 minutes; the view is always seriously obstructed because the raking is too flat. By far the biggest flaw is the audio: it is quiet and unclear. The warning about phone use is loud and clear, but then the dialog/singing is indiscernible. Most guests are left reading the subtitles, from which random sentences are missing. Comparable outdoor stages better understand that what happens on stage is only part of the experience. So the Bregenzer Festspiele is a worthwhile experience, if you have realistic expectations - this is not simply a pleasurable night at the theater.

I am visiting the festival next once every two years for the last 12 years and have never been disappointed. I would recommend to buy premium tickets that include a seat inside in case of the opera having to be moved due to bad weather. Also arriving early and exploring Bregenz beforehand is a good idea as Bregenz alone is worth a visit.

We visited “The Freischütz” by Carl Maria von Weber, which is considered a key work of the German romantic opera. We can highly recommend it: amazing, very elaborate decorations built on the lake, great music and singing, large cast, lots of special effects and overall an outstanding performance. The story takes place in a rural German village. Max, a young forester, must win a shooting contest to marry Agathe, the daughter of the head forester, Kuno. However, Max has lost his confidence after a series of failures. In desperation, he turns to Kaspar, another forester who has secretly made a pact with dark forces. Kaspar convinces Max to cast "magic bullets" in the haunted Wolf’s Glen at midnight. These bullets are supposed to never miss their target, but the last bullet is controlled by the devil. At the contest, Max fires his final bullet at a target meant for the competition — but the bullet, influenced by evil, instead aims at Agathe. Miraculously, she is saved by a sacred wreath she wears, and Kaspar is struck down instead. In the end, Max confesses his actions. Rather than being punished severely, he is given a year to prove his worth, after which he may marry Agathe. The opera blends elements of folklore, supernatural horror, love, and redemption, and is known for its vivid atmosphere, especially the eerie Wolf’s Glen scene.

A beautiful place and a fantastic venue, I am here most years for the opera and it never fails to enchant me. It's a very special place and a beautiful lake to go with, I would visit every year and every year again. Food is superb, try the local beer Moran, wine is good value and very tasty, you should come to Bregenz and have a fantastic time, 2 to 3 days is perfect. Enjoy

This has been on my bucket list since I found out about an amphitheater on Lake Constanz! It did not disappoint! Performance: We saw "Der Freischütz" (The Marksman) by Carl Maria von Weber. While it was in German, the story was easy to follow, except perhaps the ending, which was unexpected for me. The actors were amazing, especially when working in a stage with water throughout. Staging: The star of the show! A stage built on a lake with a lake on it. Dilapidated buildings illustrate the young Agathe's desperation to go anywhere else. The staging added to the morose nature of the setting. The use of fire and water defines the infernal struggle going on with Max as he tries to win Agathe's hand. Seating: Stage on the lake, seating on the land. It still had an intimate feeling with 7,000 seats. With the slope of the seating, there shouldn't have been a bad sight line. Although it can be a little intimidating for some. Therefore, if you are uncomfortable with height, choose seats in the lower rows. Another tip would be to bring a pad for your seat. Sitting for two or more hours on weather-resistant plastic seats can be uncomfortable. Theater: The theater was nicely laid out. The restrooms are clean. The lobby is well designed with easy access to amenities. The after show bars provided a nice area to discuss the show. It included special drinks for the festival! I was more than satisfied with my visit and enjoyed it immensely!

It is so impressive, had Goosebumps through the entire show, it surprised me in every way. I have been to many operas, this is a total different game. Go, just book it, you will not regret it. Also perfect for a surprise romantic weekend away.

Uncomplicated very tasty food, washed down with a refreshing bottle of the local white wine. The stylish restaurant is situated in the opera house of Bregenz. It offers modern Austrian cuisine. Due to its location, the restaurant is very popular. Service is quick. Pretty decent casino, you spend 27 euro for 30 euro on Chips, the best deal I have seen in all casinos in the Bodensee area. Only problem is blackjack game card is shuffled after EVERY ROUND. This is in a way unfair and does not provide any opportunity to count cards. So in this sense does not recommend.

(Translated by Google) We saw the "acclaimed" version of La Cenerentula on the stage of the Vorarlberg State Theater. It was the first event of its kind that we left early. This production is one-dimensional. Just (!!) loud, lifeless, and loveless. The parody character wasn't given any real direction - not even after the interval. I certainly can't adequately assess the quality of the singers. Nevertheless: For me, this was at best an athletic performance. All obstacles were overcome with energy and strength. Applause. But that's not what I go to the opera for. The wooden puppet play could have at least been funny if a different perspective had been added and some inner meaning had been conveyed. But there was no sense of communication in an appealing or even artistic sense. If a director doesn't feel capable of genuine engagement and is therefore unwilling to take the matter seriously, she shouldn't be entrusted with this task. This event leaves behind not only disappointment, but also the uneasy feeling of being embarrassed by a provincial production.

The restaurant is located inside the casino in Bregenz. The idea of letting your luck decide how much you have to pay is nice. The food is of very high quality but the portions are insufficient. I highly recommend to something so that you can focus on the tastes without the need of having the hunger issue solved

This is an excellent restaurant, no doubt. Fantastic food, wine service. And, in principle, a charming and pleasant outdoor seating, elevated at a higher level. HOWEVER: we got a table at the border, and it turns out that the smoker's lounge of the casino is underneath. Hence, the bad smell got into our noses during the whole stay. It took us a while to understand where it was coming from, since we didn't see anybody smoking at the other tables. The waited faked surprise when we told him, but I cannot believe this would have been a new insight for him and the manager...

This Casino is really amazing. From the location to the interior design and service everything is top class. They have a huge parking place so you can go with the car exactly next to the entrence. They have a dress code, but they provide jackets if you don't have one. Many slots and live game tables and they have the french roulette that is also something you don't see in all the casinos. The restaurant is 5 stars (try the steak!!!) also and at the bar they have many many drinks. I am a coffee lover and the cappuccino was super tasty. Entertaiment all the way, you can just visit for the bar and restaurants and the events that happen there. A lot of promotions also, just ask at the reception. Is a really classy, old school casino and I recommand it for a visit.

It can not believe this restaurant has 4 stars. From my experience, the service was top. When we enter, both Jan and Adrion kindly greeted us. We has to wait for a table so they offered us a compliment aperitif. Then they moved a table from outside to inside to accommodate us which I found super nice. We both ordered pizza n it was delicious. The only thing I can honesty say without removing a star ⭐️ is that olives on a pizza should be unpitted or mentioned. I almost broken a tooth biting into my pizza. Other than that, thank you Jan and Adrion for your super service! Atmosphere was also pleasant and guests next to us seemed very happy with the service as well. *We went for dinner.

I ordered penne pasta with tomato sauce and extra basil and it was very good. I also tried my friend’s mushroom pizza and it was amazing. The customer service was decent and there was table service. There was also a variety of places to sit. My friend then ordered a coffee with cognac in it but could not taste the cognac and we doubt it was put in (they asked and were told it was), but everything else was perfect. We ordered the Peking Duck, which honestly suits my tastes better than the duck I ate in China. It's not as greasy. I especially like their fried greens, they just taste like my mom fried them. The homemade ice creams with Chinese flavors and are very unique under creative. Great service and beautiful environment, we will definitely come soon again.

Very popular restaurant. We arrived when it opened - we had a reservation and in 15 mins it was full. The photos speak for themselves.

Fancy but cozy atmosphere, super attentive staff and globally outstanding non-food factors. Bodensee Menu for 49 Euros really nice but not balanced to perfection. Soup hard on the salt limit whereas I had to ask for salt for the fish in the main course. Fish however cooked to perfection. Dessert simple and delicious. All in all a solid four stars with a slight imbalance on the value for money side. Still highly recommended for a romantic dinner!

It’s my first time after 2.5hrs (before Corona) visit and I normally order hot dishes e.g vege stir fry. But this was my first time ordering Jiozi (dumplings) but sad to say that it’s just warm! Shared my opinion to a waitress but she said she’s new and don’t know much… However, the sushi dish was good and so was the green tea with ginger. We also ordered the wasabi mash potato but that too wasn’t that tasty. It was the wasabi taste but we had to add salt and pepper to bring out the tastiness 😅 For those who fancy spicy 🌶 they only provide “Sambal Olek“ which is not spicy for an Asian like me 😂 and it’s toooo vinegary. Wished the restaurant would provide cut fresh chillies with soya sauce instead… But overall it’s worthwhile visiting because of the price!

After visiting for dinner with a few friends, I was shocked at the good reviews, totally unjustified in my opinion. On one side, the service needs urgent training or replacement. We got a server that would just reply “no” when we were ordering sushi rolls. On the other side, in terms of food quality, the sushi is mostly rice - no bueno. For the price, we were expecting a nice dinner but we got a sour experience instead. Would definitely not recommend.

On the peak of this rocky hill is a beautifully restored castle with a nice restaurant and an amazing view. The Sunday brunch was a timed buffet which means that you needed to serve yourself in the allotted time for each of the given courses. You were not permitted to start the next course one minute early. Heaven forbid you took a slice of cake or some pudding a few seconds before the dessert buffet was officially opened! Drinks were included in the price and the view as well… I’d recommend it and visit again despite a few staff hiccups on that Sunday. Just gotta understand that they will not adapt to your rhythm, they have their processes and you vill follow zem. Btw a keyboard player provided the musical entertainment and a bit of cocktail hour atmosphere. This is a place to take your Mon on Mother’s Day, your dad on Father’s Day, and Grandma any day. Enjoy!

Oberstadt

4.6
(308)
Historical landmark
Oberstadt, located in Bregenz, has become the trendiest quarter with its exclusive shops and historic streets. The newly designed Kirchstrasse is home to unique stores like a lighting shop offering lamps made from traditional fabric and a handmade chocolate delicacy shop. This upper part of Bregenz is slightly elevated and surprisingly tranquil, providing a peaceful escape from the tourist bustle near the lakeshore.
When I see such beautiful and colorful streets, I always think of books. The stories in novels are always beautiful, colorful and exciting. On the contrary, some are bad, scary or full of love and passion. But somehow they inspire you.
Hetz N — Google review
Although this place is mostly skipped by the tourists, I would suggest to visit medieval Bregenz area. The cobble stone roads and the giant iron gate seems resembling the old regime.

Lookouts
Martinsturm is a well-preserved Baroque tower in the heart of Bregenz's Old Town, offering panoramic views of the city and Lake Constance. The tower features a chapel with 14th-century Gothic frescoes and boasts the largest onion dome in Europe, built in 1601 as a granary. Visitors can climb up the stairs to reach the top for stunning photo opportunities and to admire the surrounding scenery.
View is good. There is a ticket for getting into tower.
Rishikesh B — Google review
The Martinsturm in Bregenz, Austria, is an exceptional historical site, rich in culture and history. This former grain storage tower, located in the first courtyard of the Counts of Bregenz, stands as a testament to the architectural and historical evolution of the city. Architectural and Historical Significance Originally a lower tower built in the first half of the 13th century, the Martinsturm was later elevated to its current height by the architect Benedetto Prato between 1599 and 1601. This transformation marked the tower as one of the first Baroque buildings in the Lake Constance region and home to the largest onion dome in Central Europe. The tower’s onion dome, built primarily for aesthetic rather than military purposes, makes it a distinctive landmark in Bregenz . Cultural and Artistic Heritage The tower has seen various uses over the centuries, from a defensive structure to a lookout point for fire watch. It has also housed a small military history museum and, since April 2015, a city history museum with a permanent exhibition. The Martinsturm’s history is intricately linked with the Martinskapelle (St. Martin’s Chapel), which was expanded in 1362 and features remarkable frescoes, some of which were rediscovered and restored between 1910 and 1914 by the painter Florus Scheel . Visitor Experience While the interior of the Martinsturm was closed to visitors in January 2024, its exterior remains a sight to behold. The tower’s impressive Baroque architecture and the largest onion dome in Central Europe are visually stunning. From its highest floors, visitors can enjoy a 360° panoramic view of the city, though this was not possible during the renovation period . Surrounding Area Situated in the Bregenzer Oberstadt, the Martinsturm is part of a historical complex that includes the adjoining Martinskapelle and a residential building. The area is rich in history, with city walls dating back to the 13th-16th centuries still largely intact. The tower forms the northeast corner of this historical ring wall . Overall Impression The Martinsturm in Bregenz is a captivating historical site that offers a unique glimpse into the architectural and cultural history of the region. Its distinctive Baroque architecture and the artistic treasures within the adjacent chapel make it a worthwhile visit for those exploring Bregenz’s old town. While the interior was inaccessible for renovation, the tower’s external beauty and historical significance still provide a memorable experience for visitors.

I loved walking through the Bregenz Oberstadt. The area has such an elegant, historic feel with its cobblestone streets and well-kept old buildings. The Martinsturm really adds to the charm of the whole upper town. A must-see when you viait Bregenz.
Dani A — Google review
We didn't get into the museum. For some reason it is closed and there are no messages about it anywhere. Outside, both the tower and the old town are very interesting. Worth a look.

A beautiful, charming place. The old town is impressive, as is every building in the area :)

This was an unplaced stop, but we were so glad we dropped in. I wish there was some English signage, but it was still fascinating.

Great views and interesting exhibition about Bregenz. Unfortunately no translation available. Pretty cafe garden by entrance but seemed shut.

We visited the tower on a very sunny day and we had an spectacular view over the old town. Also the Frescoes in the church underneath the tower you must see.

European restaurant
Gasthaus Goldener Hirschen is a historic inn and wine tavern located in a preserved building in the old town of Bregenz. With a history dating back to the 14th century, this traditional establishment offers hearty dishes such as Vorarlberg Kasknopfle and Wiener Schnitzel, as well as vegetarian options like homemade spinach dumplings. The atmosphere in the bar is highly praised for its excellent service and design, offering a variety of beers to try.
Spontaneous dinner there. Food was good, local beer - most welcome and enjoyable. Even went for dessert. Quite busy, but really good.

We were very excited to eat here considering the wonderful reviews. However, I was quite disappointed by the service and atmosphere we were subjected to. From the outset, we got the distinct feeling that our presence wasn’t welcome, and upon entering we were reminded that we only had one hour to eat. For context, our table was booked from 18.00-20.00 and we arrived at 18.20. We appreciated the fact that the server spoke in English but a smart remark from one woman - “that is perfect German” to me felt quite passive aggressive. I then attempted to speak in basic German as I felt embarrassed. We again appreciated an English translated menu, but when our order arrived it appeared as though one of the translations was wrong. I ordered dumplings and spatzle arrived. Trying to explain that we are aware of what spatzle was, but we ordered dumplings, was a mission. In the end the server brought us the dumplings. No apology or recognition that they were in the wrong. Nobody came to our table to offer desert. Poor service. Please go if you are local and you speak German - I think you’ll have a wonderful time. From what we understood and felt, we were not welcome.

So pleased we found this place to have an evening meal. A lovely ancient building in Bregenz seemingly popular with the locals. Although we walked in, I'd recommend booking a reservation. As it's busy they expect you to get your food eaten within an hour, although we were not hassled at all. It was nice to see the staff happy as they busily kept service running. Very efficient, food was good, banter with the waiter was good, atmosphere was great. Highly recommend.

Fortunately we were lucky to find table for two without reservations guys helped us very well with English menu also, food is great atmosphere is great everything is just cool go eat have fun no one will regret it, traditional and cultural meals! 9/10

Absolutely fantastic place that has both - a restaurant and a bar. Visited this place for dinner while passing through Austria. We ordered a prime boiled steak and goulash with dumpling. Both the dishes were unique and delicious. Service was nice and friendly. And of course, its beautiful interiors added to its charm and made the ambience cozy! Prices were pretty fine for the quality and quantity of food we got. Highly recommended!!

Gasthaus Goldener Hirschen in Bregenz is a must-visit! The typical Austrian food from Vorarlberg is outstanding, with the Tafelspitzel being exceptionally delicious. The spinach sauce is a no-brainer—absolutely fantastic. Their extensive beer selection is impressive and pairs perfectly with the meal. The bar area is super cozy, making it a great spot to relax. We were attended by the owner, and the service was beyond excellent. Highly recommended if you're in Bregenz!

Very delicious traditional dishes in a comfortable atmosphere. Staff is genuine, passionate and takes good care of you. Great beer selection also. We had a knowledgeable waiter that explained us so many details about the different type of beers we tried. And on top of that, he was a great singer too! We had an amazing evening! Thanks

We had a pleasant experience here. We came between lunch and dinner when they were empty. The service was prompt and kind. The traditional boiled beef dinner was interesting and an experience that isn't available everywhere. The building's interior speaks of ages gone by and is in keeping with the style of the food. The draft beer was a perfect accompaniment to the food. Wouldn't eat here often but it is good for the experience!

Sushi takeaway
Sakura sushi bar in Bregenz offers a variety of Japanese and Korean specialties, including classic sushi and unique fusion rolls with options for both vegetarians and seafood lovers. The restaurant provides a welcome break from the traditional local cuisine, focusing on a sushi-centric menu with a limited selection of hot rice and noodle dishes. While outdoor seating fills up quickly, the spacious interior often accommodates walk-in guests. Despite being understaffed like many other establishments, the team is friendly and attentive.
Outside Japan, this was one of the best I have had. Fresh & delicious ❤️
D M — Google review
Sushi of this quality is very rare around here. Sakura offers respite from Bregenz’s excess of stodgy local cuisine, in the form of a sushi-focussed menu with a limited selection of hot rice/noodle dishes on top. Places outside are booked quickly, but inside is much bigger than it looks and there is usually a table to be had spontaneously. This restaurant is just as understaffed as every other. The team is personable and attentive, but you can't be under time pressure. You pay at the counter once you are ready to leave.

I am happy to have a nice sushi restaurant. It is no a restaurant but kinda Imbiss but the quality of sushi is super! You can also have a seat inside and outside. Sushi is always fresh and plating is beautiful. 😀 They are trying some new menu like Kkanpoong chicken. It is almost Korean delicious marinated chicken. I highly recommand all menus in Sakura. (Translated by Google) Finally a bakery that doesn't put grapes in the quark pockets etc. because you know that there are people who don't like that at all. The breads and cakes/slices are very fine. There are enough sandwiches (vegetarian) available, even at lunchtime. Price/performance is a bit higher, but there are bakeries that have become even more expensive these days. Overall, a highly recommended bakery with a well thought-out, diverse offering, also for vegetarians.

(Translated by Google) Today we bought a packaged curd stollen and when I went out I looked at the date and it said 5/4/25 and there was a sticker next to it that said 5/11. That's why I went back to ask if it was really fresh. The saleswoman assured me that it was brought yesterday. So I ran to the car again when I saw the MOLD. I went back again and asked for my money back. Something like that just shouldn't be the case and then being lied to after I specifically asked if it was really fresh.

Such excellent food!!! Also: I didn‘t photograph my cucumber soup, but it was so delicious!! They serve you even a little appetizer before the entrée. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. Also vegetarian options available and very tasty! If you can, ask to sit on the terrace under their kiwi tree, such a fabulous atmosphere! I had the whole Sunday menu and the price/quality are very reasonable! I will be back here soon! And drink my Mohren sweet Radler!

Our experience at Mangold in Lochau was truly exceptional! Despite arriving late when the restaurant was bustling, the staff handled the situation with grace. Instead of rushing us, they kindly proposed us a glass of wine to make our wait enjoyable. This did set the tone for the evening. Mangold boasts an impressive wine selection that left us in awe. The combination of local flavors with international influences in their menu was a delightful surprise. Each dish was a culinary masterpiece. What truly stood out, however, was the impeccable service. The staff’s dedication to ensuring our dining experience was memorable was evident throughout the evening. We left Mangold thoroughly satisfied and would wholeheartedly recommend it to any food enthusiast exploring the Lake of Constance area. It’s a hidden gem that deserves recognition for its outstanding food, wine, and service.
