Palazzo Ducale di Urbino is a magnificent Renaissance palace that was the home of Federico da Montefeltro, a renowned captain and patron. Constructed by some of the greatest artists of the time, including architects like Maso di Bartolomeo and Luciano Laurana, it stands as one of the finest works of the era. The palace exudes grace and beauty from its peaceful courtyard to its harmonious architecture, embodying the high ideals of the Renaissance.
Just one word- Amazing. it is out of main highways , but must to visit. is one of the most important centers of the Italian Renaissance, whose architectural legacy it still fully preserves (is UNESCO World Heritage Site). It is home to one of the oldest and most important universities in Europe, founded in 1506.

Wow. What a stunning place. Cannot recommend it enough. Gorgeous fortress. Beautiful churches throughout. Picturesque with incredible views. And a delicious little gelato place. Wow. We didn’t go inside the fortress - we just wandered around and took in the beauty. Highly recommend the trip.

Long time wanted to visit Urbino and finally managed today. Despite heavy rainfall I felt in love with this unique and immensely charming place. Palazzo Ducale and National Museum of Marche are stunning. I wrote some comments and complains of bareness in most of rooms. But masterpieces on display are more than enough to compensate. Highly recommended.

The Castle of the Dukes of Urbino is enveloped in an atmosphere of mysticism and grandeur, as if it had emerged from the pages of a centuries-old legend. Its grandiose walls welcome guests with exquisite beauty, as if inviting them to explore the secrets of the past. Once inside, you are immersed in majestic halls adorned with exquisite works of art, each whispering its unique story. The majestic halls and incomparable gardens create a unique atmosphere, as if immersing you in a fairy tale world. A visit to the Castle of the Dukes of Urbino is not just an excursion, it is an encounter with grandeur and beauty that will leave unforgettable impressions for a lifetime.

Drove from Ravenna through hills and beautiful road. Structure located over the hills with having a good overview on the area around. Paid parking is provided in the front and back, which back is bigger and more organized. Facility presenting an art belonged to Renaissance. It is big museum with many paintings, curved stones, carpets, statues and dishes in different stories. Not only a palace, but also a protected city on the hills with narrow alleys with so many steps. At least consider 2 to 4 hours to see the palace and the city. If you rely on English communication, Good luck!

Majestic structure, impressive from outside. It's worth a visit, there is an interesting collection of paintings and ceramics inside. More impressive from outside than inside but definitively worth 2 hours visit, while strolling around the beautiful Urbino.

Excellent collection of art and furniture in the Palazzo Ducale di Urbino that houses the National Museum of the Marche. As noted before Federico Montefeltro gathered together a collection of art that rivaled those in Florence and Siena. Well preserved pieces in this huge palazzo and I'm sorry I can't find the picture of the Duchess's prayer room, but it was spectacular. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Umbria or northen Marche.

Lovely renaissance art collection, set in the historic ducal palace with splendid views of the surrounding countryside. Visited during a quiet period and spent about 90 minutes to walk around the exhibition.

A beautiful city full of history
Isai J — Google review
Some decent exhibits in a fabulous building but there is inadequate signage so that whilst exhibition rooms are theoretically numbered there is no indication which room is which. Hence it's possible to waste a lot of time trying to find exhibits of interest. There are people sat in chairs in each room who appear to be there to provide information but our experience was that in the main they knew even less than we did. Won't be returning.

Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, also known as Urbino Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in the picturesque city of Urbino, Italy. Originally designed by Francesco di Giorgio Martini in the 15th century and later rebuilt in a neo-classical style by architect Giuseppe Valadier in the late 18th century, this cathedral is a true testament to art and architecture.
Urbino is a beautiful medieval city. My wife and I chose it for our stay during the World Cup in Pesaro. Urbino is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cathedral in Urbino is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. A beautiful building of historical value.

Nestled in the heart of Urbino, Il Cortegiano Ristorante offers a delightful culinary experience that combines traditional Italian flavors with a warm and inviting atmosphere. With its charming terrace overlooking the stunning cathedral, this restaurant is perfect for enjoying hearty pastas and meaty dishes. Guests rave about their Tagliatelle prepared in the authentic Urbino style, featuring fresh sausage meat and vegetables cooked to perfection.
Very nice restaurant. It's much bigger than you think. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. The also have some local dishes. And they have a wonderful city garden where you can enjoy your meal. Highly recommended! If you believe this review is useful, then please 'like' it.

Wonderful terrace overlooking the piazza of the Duomo. We initially came for drinks but ended up having a small lunch. We shared a crescia sfogliata (was ok) and a pasta with wild boar, and the kitchen kindly served our pasta on two plates. This friendly gesture, along with the overall friendliness, made up for the long wait.

Cool classical restaurant.Looks like time, has stopped here in this place. We had nice hot crusty crescia. Effective, responsive staff. The tiramisu was a bit dry. Not far from the University, so many students having lunch. Three large independent areas in the restaurant. The large room between tables and other customers makes it comfortable to have lunch. Privacy is guaranteed. Urbino is a nice typical old city. A open museum.

Unassuming restaurant, has a cozy ambience to it. Love love love the Casciotta di Urbino. Please order it but make sure to share as it is quite filling for 2 pax. The maialetto cotto is amazing as well, literally melts in your mouth. A little disappointed in the cognilio as I find it a little tough. But overall it’s really good food and I really enjoyed it!

Ristorante Antica Osteria Da La Stella is a charming dining spot located in Urbino, Le Marche. The restaurant is known for its homemade pasta dishes and other local delicacies. Run by Mamma Giovanna and her son Diego, the elegant interior of this ancient inn provides a lovely setting for indulging in traditional Italian cuisine.
Very nice dinner at Osteria de la Stella in Urbino. We walked in as the restaurant was about to open and were led up to a nice table by the window. The service was impeccable and the dishes we ordered were refined, tasty and very well presented. I would happily recommend a dinner there while in Urbino.

This was the best restaurant I went to during my 4 weeks in Urbino. I actually ended up going twice because of how much I enjoyed it the first time.
Soren S — Google review
I gave the food a 2 because my portion of venison seemed less than 100 grams (2 tiny pieces) it was overcooked and it didnt seem like the same dish or quantity of food as the pictures on google. They dared to ask 34 euro for it. Even in my hometown in the Netherlands you get at least 200/250 grams for that price, and we have a very expensive restaurant culture compared to Italy. Ambiance a 3 because of the weird, out of place music that was playing. Price quality/quantity gap is too big. Left hungry.
R. H — Google review
At first from the other reviews, my husband and I thought finding a dish that we would like would be a bit difficult, especially with me not liking meat as much but we went regardless for our anniversary and found that this place does offer just what we were hoping for. The menu photos the others posted aren't updated and the service? Impeccable. The place is clean, the servers and host are incredibly nice and welcoming. I honest to god felt like royalty. This is the nicest restaurant we have ever been to. Yes, the pricing is a bit much but the food is so delicious and presentable that being a one-time occurrence was well worth it for our 6 years. I highly recommend this place and I would love to come again, almost everything on the menu is inviting.
Sara A — Google review
Very good local traditional food. Slightly pricey, but the quality is great! If you don't mind spending a little bit extra, it's a good place to come to for lunch or dinner. Absolutely loved the mixed entrees plate, and the passatelli with black truffle was divine!

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Casa Natale di Raffaello, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Oratorio di San Giovanni Battista. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Casa Natale di Raffaello, located in Urbino, Le Marche, is a significant historical site as it was the birthplace of the renowned painter Raphael in 1483. The house showcases the early life and training of Raphael, with his father's workshop now on the ground floor. Visitors can explore copies of his paintings and tributes by other artists on the first floor.
This is a private museum, so it's won't contain too many real work, most work is copy. entrance fee for 3.5 euro, well, personaly I think it's a little bit high consider the content. But in a way, I think it's worth this value since you can experience the track of young artist, and you won't miss the fresco made by Raffaello when he was 14
Jian D — Google review
It does not matter if you don't have a doctorate in Arts, you will appreciate this place, the name and the other worldly ability of this painter and his father. Please visit and get a real feel for the artist.
Alex C — Google review
Leaves a lot to be desired. If you expect to see any works by Raphael, you will be disappointed. There are many other works displayed but not much is offered in the way of explanation and half of them are unlabelled anyway. There are several empty shelves so there is possibly more to see in the tourist season. I would recommend a visit if you are an admirer of the artist and know what to look for. The museum bookshop is well-stocked but virtually only has Italian literature. The entrance fee is 4€.
Gregor G — Google review
Not much original work left, mostly copies, the house itself is nice.
Zongle — Google review
We didn't enter the house, but we noticed something strange. During the day, there is a 'plate' to indicate that this is the birth house of the famous painter. In the evening, the 'plate' is gone. Maybe some fans see it as a collector's item? If you believe this review is useful, then please 'like' it.

Taverna degli Artisti is a great Italian pizza restaurant in an 18th Century trattoria. The waitstaff is friendly and the food is fantastic, at good prices.
Today, we had a very enjoyable dinner thanks to the delicious food. The staff deserves a perfect 10/10, especially the girl who took our order – she made us feel at home. The pizzas are the best I've ever tasted in Urbino, and the secret behind their exceptional taste is the pizza sauce. This wasn't the first time I visited this restaurant, and it certainly won't be the last.

Lovely taverna in Urbino. Delicious food, good service and decent prices. Everything that I ordered was yummy, fresh ingredients. They have a clean toilet as well. The only sad thing for me was that they didn't serve pizza on lunch time, I was excited to order one but it is how it is.

Had lunch at this wonderful restaurant. I'm a solo traveler and they made me feel very welcome. The food was excellent and the service was very attentive. I found the dishes very reasonably priced I strongly recommend this is a place to eat for a very rewarding experience.
Ignatz P — Google review
Unfortunately an unpleasant surprise, considering the quite positive reviews. They had us eating in the courtyard, which is nothing more than a claustrophobic hallway. It was worse than being outside, as no air was coming through whatsoever, and on a hot summer evening, we were both sweating within a couple of minutes at 8 pm. We ordered two passatelli with asparagus, cherry tomatoes and sausage, a chicken breast, and a rare beef steak. The passatelli had a nice flavor, but were seriously missing the asparagus. There were maybe 7 or 8 tiny bits in the dish, and had we been blindfolded, we would’ve never guessed there were any at all. Absolutely couldn’t taste the asparagus in it. The chicken breast was nice. A well balanced vinaigrette gave it a nice flavor. There was a whole, unpeeled clove of garlic on the plate. We found it “interesting”. The €20 “steak” was a ridiculously thin, 1/3 of an inch, maybe 3 or 4 oz slice of beef with a bone and untrimmed chunks of fat. Being that thin, it obviously couldn’t be cooked rare as requested, but medium at the very best, with the thinnest edge being practically well done. It was honestly embarrassing. I really could not recommend this place, which again I find surprising, considering the decent reviews. Maybe we went on the wrong evening? Who knows. But we won’t go again to find out. They don’t accept American Express. I found it a little odd considering this is a restaurant in a central location, in the historic center of a tourist area.
Mark A — Google review
We visited with our kids (9 & 5) and were a bit late for lunch (13:15). The waiter took a quick look at the clock, but decided instantly to stay open a bit longer. When we left we thanked her for staying open, and she said they did not mind and it happened more often. Nonetheless it was much appreciated! The food was in good proportions and we ordered a variety of dishes to share. We tasted the best Carbonara and Ravioli.

Hotel Raffaello, located in the heart of Urbino's historic center, offers modern and spacious rooms with complimentary Wi-Fi and breakfast. Situated just steps away from House of Raphael and Albornoz Fortress, this 15th-century stone venue provides convenient amenities such as tour assistance and a common area with a television. The hotel's prime location allows guests to easily explore the city's attractions while enjoying picturesque views from their rooms. Additionally, shuttle service and car rentals are available for convenience.
We stayed at Hotel Raffaello for 10 days during our visit to Urbino, for the Early Music Festival this July 2019. The quadruple room we were given on the top floor was spacious and comfortable. The room has an antique bed and wardrobe and stunning artwork in the ceiling. The view from the bedroom is also beautiful. Bathroom size is sufficient and water pressure was good. Housekeeping was a bit mixed in terms of replenishing supplies and cleanliness, but we were informed later that the usual housekeeper is on a long-service leave. Breakfast daily is simple but sufficient to showcase the regional delicacies. Paolo was very attentive to our breakfast requirements. He prepared hard-boiled eggs daily upon our request, and decaffeinated coffee for my son plus extra cup of espresso for my husband every morning. The hotel location is central, with easy walk to main attractions and all shops, yet tucked away neatly behind the busy main stretch of shops. Staff spoke reasonably good English, and all are friendly and helpful.

I was trying to book this hotel for Easter and I asked if I could do a late check-in; I received this answer from the hotel: "We are sorry but our check-in ends at 8 PM. After this time, an additional fee of €80 will be applied. Furthermore, we request you to send us the written and signed payment authorization complete with front and back photos of the credit card to charge the total amount + supplement, and photos of your valid passports." I think it’s way too complicated. I am sure Urbino is plenty of places where it’s easier to book a hotel room.

Self check-in, beautiful views from the room (3rd floor), nice stuff, good breakfast. 100 m from the main square. Parking in Santa Lucia Park house. 3 stars worth. Improvement potential. PS: self check in is quite simple but not for those unfamiliar with different apps.

Urbino is a very substantial ancient city, with a lower degree of tourist "bustle" than we had expected in the peak of summer. We had three superior suite rooms on the top floor, all with excellent views of the walled city. The hotel Raffaello is accessible by car only for dropping off luggage, and then cars must be parked outside the wall of the old city, but the proprietor was able to direct us well, such that our vehicles were secure. There is a wonderful park accessible up a relatively steep walk near the hotel, and the following morning an extensive market was operating. We had breakfast at the hotel enjoying fresh fruits, various cakes, breads with cheese and salami, ham, eggs, yogurt, etc.. the buffet was very rich and sophisticated offering genuine products and land.
Valerio S — Google review
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great view from the room but only if you lean out the window. The wall between the room I was in and the next room was very thin and you could easily hear the conversations of the other guests. Good location, good breakfast. Enjoyed the stay.
Andrew C — Google review
Location in the truest sense of the word “top” – uphill and just below the fortress. In the middle of the historical city and only steps away from pretty much all the sights and places you want to visit. The view from the room picture-book pretty, the room itself spacious and nicely furnished. All the personnel - without an exception - professional, very friendly and always helpful – and the owner Giulio Lonzi repeatedly went over and above the call of duty. He gave helpful advice on parking - literally impossible inside the city walls, but with a weekly “minipass” for the multi-storey car park reasonably priced and so convenient. He even called us, when he thought we were a bit late in arriving, to check if we were ok, then directed us to the right ticket office and arranged for a taxi to pick us up (even though you can get a short-term permit to take your car to the hotel and back to drop your luggage, you really don’t want to tackle those steep narrow streets, believe me). When my wife sprained her ankle while on a day trip, he directed us to the nearest emergency room and picked us up later himself, when we were stranded without a taxi in sight and her totally incapable of more than hopping on one leg. He helped me to drag/carry her up the last few metres from his car to the hotel and up to the room and … believe it or not, he managed to conjure up a pair of crutches for her before we had even started to wonder if and where we could get some. He then provided us with addresses of restaurants that would deliver meals to the hotel. The man repeatedly solved our problems, before we even realized we had one. He finally spent ages to find a wonderful restaurant for my birthday dinner – on a Sunday in October at the nearby Adriatic coast when the season there had practically ended and most restaurants were closed … To put it in a nutshell – staying in the Raffaello is like staying with a friend … a good friend! Thank you Giulio! We’ll be back!

The Historic Centre of Urbino, a charming Italian town recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is steeped in rich history and culture. Known as the birthplace of the renowned artist Raffaello Sanzio, visitors can explore his childhood home. The majestic Palazzo Ducale stands out as a centerpiece, showcasing stunning architecture and housing the National Gallery of the Marche. Strolling through its well-preserved walls feels like stepping back in time, with every corner revealing unique art and historical treasures.
If you were not imported by those places then I suggest that you do not have a pulse. Everything that you thought Italian hilltop fortresses were or should be like come true in this place. It is simply amazing but you need to not be afraid of young people, this is a university city and hills. And if you are, do visit this place anyway. Your soul will thank you. And seek out the surprise Botanic gardens too.

It's a great place, where is situated the university, and the most famous attractions from Urbino. In Christmas time were put decorations, and trees around all the historic centre for a beautiful Christmas holiday experience

The ancient town of Urbino has been included since 1998 in the UNESCO world heritage list. It is actually a small town for today's standards, but it is nevertheless an important one, because of its history, mostly related to the Renaissance and to relationships with the surrounding regions, most notably Tuscany. In these times the city expressed also a Pope. Urbino is also the hometown of the world famous painter Raffaello Sanzio. Additionally, and most related to nowadays, Urbino is a renowned university city, where many students flock from other Italian regions and even from abroad. Both features of the city, its history and its university, make Urbino an expensive city, where finding a home is not easy for everyone.

After having spent the university years, coming back is always a pleasure. every wall is a piece of history, every street a new discovery. Do not stop in the main passages too much time because even the narrowest street hides some unique and rare work of art. just a fantastic city.

Perched above the Palazzo Ducale, the Oratorio di San Giovanni Battista offers a captivating experience with its 1416 frescoes by the Salimbeni brothers. The Crucifixion scene behind the altar depicts everyday life, featuring a horse, a frantic mother chasing her child, and a flamboyantly dressed soldier. The sides showcase John the Baptist's life in intricate detail, including followers being baptized and dogs lounging amidst discarded clothes.
Impressive very antique fresco's, a must see.

Beautiful old church. The oratory is best known for its late Gothic style fresco cycle (1416) by the brothers Lorenzo and Jacopo Salimbeni. Brothers Lorenzo Salimbeni (1374-c1418) and Jacopo Salimbeni (c.1370/80 - after 1426) were Italian medieval painters representative of International Gothic style.

We waited for a very very long time to be seated... and then the staff focused on the table next to us who came later. Anyways... but the staff is very nice and polite and pretty helpful after giving his attention to us. The food was good. Really recommend the lamb dish. The steak was also good and reasonably priced. Grilled vegetables was very tasty too (the fact that they have a cooked vegetable dish is very thoughtful, most placed only have salads).

Food not very nice! Two of us had fish pasta (one seafood and one cod) which both tasted like they had been made with a jar and gave me a bit of an upset stomach. The othe two both had sausages (which tasted like very salty ham) and baked potatoes with no butter or any kind of sauce available. None of us finished even half of our meals. Service was adequate but disinterested. Not a pleasant experience.

(Translated by Google) Small but nice, nothing special. The area outside the stalls and the boxes, however, is decidedly ugly, in a slightly retro 70s style, like most of the internal buildings of the Urbino university. In short, a historical gem of this caliber should be reevaluated in a different way. (Translated by Google) Bastione della Rampa Elicoidale (Helical Ramp Bastion), Urbino The Bastione della Rampa Elicoidale is one of the most fascinating and atmospheric corners of Urbino, where architecture, history, and functionality merge into a stunning spiral path. This structure was commissioned by Federico III da Montefeltro between 1480 and 1488 to facilitate the passage from Piazza Mercatale to the Palazzo Ducale—even for horses and sleighs, which speaks volumes about the scale of the era's ambitions. Architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini created a ramp within the bastion tower, creating a smooth spiral ascent that served a practical purpose while also demonstrating the ruler's prestige and the mastery of Renaissance architecture. Today, this ramp is open to visitors, free of charge, and perfectly preserved. Climbing it is more than just a transition from the lower to the upper parts of the city—it's a journey through time. The ramp offers picturesque views of the rooftops, turrets, the façade of the Ducal Palace, and the ancient city walls, all surrounded by the rolling Marche landscape, valleys, and rural slopes. It's especially beautiful in the morning and before sunset, when the soft light illuminates the stone walls and adds expressiveness to the composition. The Bastione della Rampa Elicoidale is a remarkable example of Renaissance engineering and urban planning: it combines historical utility with visual aesthetics. Visitors walking or driving up to the Mercatale will find this passage convenient and inspiring. It's worth adding to your itinerary if you love architecture, history, or simply beautiful views.

Centuries later, its usefulness has not ceased, I recommend: Leave the car at the Mercatale car park (€12.00 per day, if you stay longer the rate is halved) where you will find the entrance to the helical ramp and when you arrive at the top you will have the Sanzio Theater, the Palazzo Ducale and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta just a few meters away, in short you are in the heart of Urbino and the Renaissance. The San Bernardino Church, along with an adjoining monastery, is situated on a hill that overlooks Urbino. Constructed following the wishes of Federico da Montefeltro after his demise, it serves as a burial site for him and his successors. The design and execution of this architectural marvel are credited to Francesco di Giorgio Martini, the esteemed ducal architect.
The final resting place of Federico da Montefeltro. The chapel is quiet and simple and overlooks Urbino- a panoramic view you don't get to enjoy if you approach the city from the main road. The tomb lists in Latin his many qualities and contributions to Renaissance society, and offers a good place to start a tour of his city.

Nestled in the heart of Urbino's historic center, La Terrazza del Duca Urbino is a charming restaurant and pizzeria that captures the essence of traditional Marchigiana cuisine at reasonable prices. The enchanting terrace offers stunning views of the majestic Palazzo Ducale, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of bygone eras. Guests can enjoy fixed-price menus tailored for students and football match days, making it a popular spot—reservations are recommended to secure your table!

The location is stunning, but the service was quite poor. Two young students taking care of the service. They didn't have much of a clue and were not collaborative. This venue could be much better with a little bit of extra efforts.
Jese M — Google review
The restaurant La Terrazza del Duca is located just outside the external walls of the ancient town of Urbino. It is located at the first floor, just above a nice bar. The food is very good, the restaurant is actually also a Neapolitan pizzeria, but they also prepare excellent cuisine dishes, besides the pizza. The cuisine is mostly tied to the local traditions of the Marche region. The people are very friendly and the service is quick and kind. Too bad we could not choose our table, and we had to sit just before the main entrance, so that cold air from outside came onto us every time that someone stepped in the restaurant.

Superb food! We didn't have a booking but they squeezed us in. We tried a variety of starters and primi piatti all of which were top notch. Very friendly staff
Douglas K — Google review
Amazing view from the bottom of the historical city centre. So you will have a beautiful sight of the palace, especially at night. The restaurant is not a groundbreaking example if interior design, but the most important thing is: you will have good food. Traditional; revised; meat or pasta they will give you a broad range of choice. Pizza is also popular but I did not try. Taken a mix grilled meat with side roasted potatoes and treat. I was not disappointed, so I truly recommend a stop here, in favour of other touristy restaurants in the old Urbino.
Luca V — Google review
Our hosts recommended this restaurant near the centre. Overlooking part of the walls and castle. We called without a reservation and after a bit of time looking at their book we sat down. The food was good but my spaghetti dish. Was served on a cold plate, so my food was cold before I had finished, surely a no no in any kitchen.

€10-12 for a primi or secundi that are the least enjoyable we’ve experienced in Italy. Chicken with defrosted carrots and potatoes so mushi that it tastes like it comes out of the freezer. The ravioli was probably microwaved. Just not good. Tourist trap…

Al Cantuccio Ristorante Pizzeria is a charming little eatery tucked away in the back streets. Visitors have raved about the stunning pizzas and the warm, friendly service provided by the cooks and servers. While some found the cover charge on their bill to be an unpleasant surprise, others have praised the wonderful food and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant's cozy location has been noted positively, although some felt that the decor could be improved.

Nice little pizzeria and local restaurant hidden into the back streets . We enjoyed 2 stunning pizzas between us . The only thing preventing a 5 star review was a very nasty , hidden and unnecessary cover charge tacked one the bill, still don’t what us was for , but amounted to over 25% of the entire bill . Be very aware as this has happened to us on a number of occasions . Obviously they never received a tip SOME SIMPLE RULES TO COMBAT THE COPERTO 1. IN GENERAL, THE BEST RESTAURANTS DO NOT CHARGE ANY COPERTO (ALTHOUGH THERE COULD BE GLARING EXCEPTIONS). IN OUR EXPERIENCE, THE RESTAURANTS NOT CHARGING THE COPERTO WERE THE ONES WHERE WE HAD THE BEST FOOD EXPERIENCE. SO RULE OF THUMB, PATRONISE RESTAURANTS WHICH DO NOT CHARGE THE COPERTO. 2. ASK BEFORE YOU LEAP. IT IS NOT RUDE TO ASK THE WAITER / SERVER WHETHER THE RESTAURANT CHARGES A COPERTO / SERVICE CHARGE / COVER CHARGE. IF THE ANSWER IS YES, AND YOU DO NOT WISH TO PAY IT, JUST MOTION AS IF TO MOVE TO ANOTHER ONE. THERE IS A FAIR CHANCE THAT THE WAITRESS WOULD WAIVE OFF THE COPERTO. 3. THE COPERTO GOES BY DIFFERENT NAMES - SERVICE CHARGE, COVER CHARGE ETC. CHECK SPECIFICALLY FOR ALL OF THESE SYNONYMS WITH THE RESTAURANT. IF YOU ARE NOT CONVINCED WITH THE ANSWER, ASK AGAIN. ITS BETTER TO BE SURE THAN TO BE SURPRISED WITH A NUMBER YOU WERE NOT PREPARED FOR. 4. THE RESTAURANTS IN THE TOURIST AREAS WOULD HAVE WAITERS OUTSIDE INVITING YOU INTO THE RESTAURANT. AS A RULE OF THUMB, BEWARE! THESE COULD BE TOURIST TRAPS AND IN MOST LIKELIHOOD WOULD NOT BE THE BEST FOOD EXPERIENCE NEITHER VALUE FOR MONEY!

For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Cantina Terracruda. Nestled in a picturesque setting, Cantina Terracruda offers an unforgettable wine tasting experience that is not to be missed. Guests are treated to breathtaking panoramic views while exploring a well-maintained organic vineyard. The knowledgeable and friendly hosts, particularly Eleanora, guide visitors through an impressive selection of around 12 different wines, including sparkling rosé and dessert options. Each tasting is perfectly complemented by an array of artisanal breads, cheeses, and meats that enhance the flavors of the wines.
Some of the finest wines & hospitality in the region. The tasting was as delicious as it was informative & the ethos of this family run winery is totally on point.

We visited Cantina Terracruda the night before our wedding in Fossombrone, as all of our wine had been specially chosen from their vineyard. It was such a special and memorable experience. From the start, the communication via email was warm, responsive, and helpful throughout the year, and they even kindly agreed to open early just for us. When we arrived, we were greeted with a genuinely warm welcome from the family owners, along with two very friendly spaniels who reminded us of our own dog back home! The owner was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable, and he gave us a private hour long tour through various vineyards, offering stunning views and a wonderfully informative insight into their work, all in brilliant English. His enthusiasm for the land, the grapes, and their family run business was wonderful to see. We then explored the winery and production, before sitting in the sunshine in their lovely courtyard to taste 12 different wines, paired with delicious antipasti, fresh bread, and olive oil. Each wine was distinctive and we were guided through them with explanations and written tasting notes. It was the most extensive and engaging tasting we’ve ever done! We were having such a lovely time that we couldn’t resist purchasing a bottle of our wedding wine, Boccalino, to enjoy in the garden overlooking the rolling countryside. The accommodation was also fantastic - spacious, clean, and charming, with access to a variety of lovely gardens, seating areas, and a large pool. It was the ideal place to relax and finish our final wedding preparations. For the quality of the wine, the setting, and the service, we felt it was an absolute bargain. It should have cost double! We couldn’t recommend Cantina Terracruda more highly and would love to return in the future. We’ll definitely be in touch to see about shipping some wine to the UK! Grazie mille to the entire Terracruda team for such a memorable experience.

Had an amazing tasting experience with the Itineris project. Luca was extremely knowledgeable about the wines and was very welcoming. The place is stunning, surrounded by beautiful hills. We tasted several types of wine produced by Terracruda, including their three versions of Bianchello, two ancient grapes Incrocio Bruni 54 & Garofanata, and their Spumanti. Would highly recommend a visit if in Le Marche.

The Monument to Raphael stands as a tribute to the legendary painter who was born in Urbino in 1483. Visitors can explore his childhood home, Casa Raffaello, where he honed his artistic skills under the guidance of his father, Giovanni Santi. The museum showcases replicas of Raphael's masterpieces and features a stunning fresco of the Madonna and Child created during his youth.
It is so beautiful place for tourist or for take a rest. I prefer to go there on the morning. It will be so cold. (Translated by Google) Raphael is undoubtedly Urbino's most famous citizen, and the city chose to dedicate this monument to him (somewhat belatedly), inaugurated in 1897. It was initially located in Piazza Duca Federico (in front of the Palazzo Ducale), but in 1947 it was moved, not without some controversy, to its current location in Piazzale Roma (or Pian del Monte). Recently restored, the monument stands in a large, tree-lined square and is surrounded by busts of illustrious figures with ties to the city of Urbino. It is a work of perhaps slightly outdated taste, but it is pleasing and imposing, set in a very pleasant setting.

(Translated by Google) The Raphael Monument in Urbino, located in the gardens in front of the Albornoz Fortress, is one of the most evocative places where the city pays homage to its most illustrious son. Created in the late 19th century by Luigi Belli, the monument is a solemn and elegant work, combining civic pride with universal admiration for the great Renaissance painter. The bronze statue depicts Raphael standing, in a composed yet inspired pose, his gaze directed toward the horizon and his hand seemingly grasping the insignia of his craft. The choice to depict him with simplicity and dignity, without excessive rhetoric, underscores the refinement of an artist who combined harmony and grace throughout his work. The base bears inscriptions and decorations that recall the universal importance of his work. The ensemble blends perfectly with its surroundings: from the top of the gardens, a breathtaking view opens up over the rooftops of Urbino and the rolling hills of the Marche region, creating an ideal dialogue between the artistic grandeur of the past and the natural beauty of the city. Visiting this monument is not just about admiring a valuable sculpture, but also about experiencing a moment of reflection on the profound bond between Urbino and Raphael, a symbol of a Renaissance that continues to shine brightly today.

Oratorio San Giuseppe in Urbino is a must-visit for tourists, offering a captivating journey through history and art. The 17th-century church boasts magnificent frescoes and is home to the oldest life-size nativity scenes created by Federico Brandani in the mid-16th century. The building was rebuilt in 1682 due to humidity damage, preserving its historical significance.
Boy this place is amazing. Not easy as such to get to but it was worth it. The frescoes and art work are excellent and you can feel the history everywhere you walk and cast your eyes. Please visit these places.

In the circumstance, the traveller, finding himself before his gaze the building which houses the oratory of San Giuseppe, did nothing but enter the building, pay a cumulative ticket which also allowed him to visit the other oratory located on the same street, dedicated to the Baptist and climb a staircase to access the treasure chest in which the beauty, the enchantment, the magnificence of the works of art present in the rooms shone in all its splendor. Brandani's nativity scene, the church, the sacristy and the wedding chapel are the jewels that the oratory places available to the gaze of the traveler visitor who, admired by this sight, can only be delighted with joy.

(Translated by Google) The Oratory of San Giuseppe, located a short distance from that of San Giovanni, is the seat of a confraternity built in 1515, thanks to the noble Albani family from Urbino, who made it one of the richest churches in Urbino. After climbing the entrance steps, on the right you enter the chapel of the Nativity scene created by Federico Brandani between 1545-50. The rectangular space is covered in pumice stone and tuff, whose scenic effect recreates the setting of a cave. The Nativity scene is made of plaster with life-size figures. In the representation, under a simple hut, the Virgin participates in the adoration of the shepherds, while the ox and the donkey, masterfully modeled, warm Baby Jesus. Sitting on the ground and slightly apart, is Saint Joseph absorbed in deep meditation. The church itself is of modest height, sumptuously decorated on the walls, in the vault and in the apse basin, by Carlo Roncalli. The high altar is made of fine marbles and, above it, there is a large marble aedicule, donated by Pope Clement XI in 1732. It has two columns in red porphyry, from the Pantheon, and in the center it houses a statue depicting Saint Joseph, from the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano. To the right of the altar there is a Madonna with Child. In the sacristy you can admire a wooden cabinet painted with landscape views by Alessio De Marchis, a splendid example of furniture from the Marche region. Seduto a terra e leggermente in disparte, sta San Giuseppe assorto in profonda meditazione.

As you stroll through Urbino, you'll encounter the Chiesa San Francesco, a 14th-century church with Romanesque-Gothic architecture. Originally an abbey and later transformed into a Franciscan temple, this church has undergone significant modifications over time. Inside, you'll find valuable works of art and a medieval Pieta sculpture in the left niche of the central apse. The peaceful atmosphere and regular masses make it a serene place to visit.

(Translated by Google) Every time you enter the entrance of a church, you hold your breath for a few seconds and immerse yourself in the mystical religious aura of the place. Even on this occasion, visiting the church of San Francesco in Urbino, the traveller, after stopping to admire the architectural beauty of the portico for a few seconds, used the power of his visual gaze to capture what was precious inside. And there were some precious things, starting with the architectural structure, which, although dissimilar to the Romanesque style of the exterior, retains its intimate classicism. The interior is embellished by works of art of excellent artistic value, such as the magnificent canvas by Barocci, representing the pardon of Assisi and the equally splendid panel by Nelli da Gubbio, depicting an intense Madonna with child and then the beautiful seventeenth-century altarpiece by Maggeri, depicting the Holy Trinity and Saints and other paintings by authors who are unknown today but who were renowned when they were called to work by the client. In a chapel in the left transept, it is possible to admire a moving and exciting sandstone sculptural group, depicting piety, with the Madonna, Magdalene and Saint John the Baptist supporting the body of the dead Christ on their legs. The emotion does not want to leave, even when you leave the church and this is the strength and power contained in these sacred places.

Located in a small and cramped street in the old part of the city, Il Buco is a local pizza restaurant that is frequented by locals. The pizzas are made to order and are reasonably priced. Very good food, perfect service, and above all I reserved online through fork. Absolutely no tourists which made us feel like locals! Though obviously tourist recommended! Very quiet too - off the beaten track, so our baby girl wasn’t agitated by the tumult of the street cars and the ubiquitous scooters.

What an absolutely terrible experience. I booked a table online, received a confirmation, and even got a reminder email on the same day. But when we arrived, we found the restaurant closed. When I called, they simply said over the phone that they couldn’t open due to a problem. But no notification, no cancellation, no apology—nothing. Unbelievable rudeness. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. I will definitely never choose this restaurant again—an absolute disaster.

I did not expect to find such a refined restaurant in a small town like Urbino. It is better than some of the $$$$ restaurants in Milan and New York. I love how much thoughts and passion the chef puts into each dish. The bread is homemade and smells very aromatic. The appetizer is marinated tuna with mullet roe, artichoke, straciatella cheese, and almond. Every ingredient is fresh including the almond which adds a much needed crunch to the dish. Each ingredient is true to its flavor and combines well together. The salad has a wide varieties of ingredients. Very nutritious. I am very glad it is not a plain lettuce with carrot shreds and cucumbers. The branzini has very interesting flavor. The sauce is creative with mixed herbs. It would be better if the fish skin were crispier.

Exactly the restaurant you hope to find when traveling. Incredible local dishes in a beautiful setting with great service. The dishes were perfectly prepared. The food is nice but when I ordered wine by the glass I got the amount showed in the picture. And I just feel like it is way less amount I normally get when I order wine “by the glass.” I am not sure maybe I am wrong but it just doesn’t feel nice when I asked the waiter and he got annoyed and pointed at the glass and asked me “didn’t you order a glass?” It wasn’t a good experience.

We ate here last night. Not on the main drag but really worth seeking out if you like good food prepared by someone who really knows what he is doing. We had the fish-based 3 course set menu at €45 per head. Not cheap but this was Michelin-starred cooking quality. Not standard local dishes. Perhaps the best fish pasta dish I have ever eaten. He deserves to do well. For €60 or so a head we had a meal which bears comparison with well-known restaurants in London, Paris or Milan. And the building and team are on the same level. A jewel. Very highly recommended.

Please, please, please don't go to this place. The owner (or the chef, I'm not sure) is a racist. As soon as he saw me, he shook his head and said 'no, no, no, not him, tell him to go away'. Perfect dinner in this beautiful town. The staff was so friendly. And while it is an upscale place, they were very family friendly and helpful with the toddler we had in tow. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. For €23, I had tagliatelle ragu and a plate of grilled sausages and rosemary potatoes - I couldn't eat it all. And my friend thoroughly enjoyed her pasta with local truffles and mushrooms. Our server, Beatrice, was absolutely lovely and very attentive. Highly recommend.

Is the most beautiful place that makes wine. With people who are incredibly passionate and honest about what they do. With the product that is nothing but the natural ingredients nothing but the grapes. This is a truly natural wine they produce, and it’s quite amazing to taste it.

The Obelisco di Urbino is a 500-year-old obelisk that was brought to Rome from Egypt after the Roman Empire conquered North Africa. It is simply designed but beautiful to look at. Its importance for cultural heritage overcomes aesthetic value, although it is primarily why it was recovered, transported and erected in this square in 1700.

(Translated by Google) Urbino is one of the most fascinating gems of the Marche, a concentration of history, art and breathtaking landscapes. Its historic center, perfectly preserved and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a maze of uphill alleys, Renaissance buildings and suggestive views. Walking through its walls is like taking a dip into the past, with the majestic Palazzo Ducale dominating the scene. Among the many surprises of Urbino there is also the delightful Botanical Garden, a small green oasis nestled in the heart of the city. Founded in the eighteenth century, it hosts an incredible variety of plants and flowers, and is perfect for a quiet walk, in a relaxing and well-kept environment. It is an ideal place for those seeking a moment of peace away from the most crowded tourism. Finally, it is absolutely worth climbing up to the Obelisk of Urbino, located in an extraordinary panoramic position. From there, the view opens up over the entire city and the Marche hills, offering one of the most beautiful photographic points in the area. In short, Urbino is a destination that combines culture, nature and beauty in a unique way. A city to live calmly, allowing yourself to be surprised at every corner. La Balestra Antica Hostaria is a quaint Italian restaurant with a medieval-era vibe. They serve wood-fired pizza, truffle pasta, and a terrace. They also have a full bar, wine and beer, and accept American Express, Mastercard, and Visa.
Had lunch here today with a party of 10 and could not more highly recommend La Balestra. Loved the food - the wild boar ragu was excellent and some of the best pasta I’ve had anywhere in Italy. House white wine with lunch was perfect. The meat/cheese board was exactly as you’d expect. Nice salads, always a bonus to have greens with your Italian meal. I really liked that La Balestra was tucked into a quiet alley. Lovely outdoor dining. We could overhear someone practicing for an opera show and the local kids chatted to us through the daycare fence. Finished with espressos - perfect meal. 10/10 - great place to come ❤️❤️❤️

Worst service in Italy with mediocre food. We booked a table in a garden and came 10min earlier just to be informed they're too busy in the garden and we can sit outside in front. No apology nothing. After long wait for the menu we've ordered primi ravioli and secondi pork with additional sides as Secondi come without side. Ravioli was the only light during this dinner. Really nice. But... For secondi we had to wait around 40min. No one gave us notice during that time. No apology again when it arrived. The pork was dry as we're the potatoes also oversalted. And the bill was not that small. Would not recommend the place at all.

Lovely restaurant. Several dining spaces, but we sat on the porch across from (apparently), Europe’s largest plane tree (platano). It was quiet and the friendly and polite staff was very efficient. The appetizers and pasta we had were excellent with generous portions for the price. The meats that our neighbors got looked succulent as well. Great experience overall, would happily go back.

Dinner. Starting with the positives: the food is amazing, we shared a Caciotta and ham (10€), following we had a Tagliatelle Al Tartufo nero (15€) and Ravioli al burro tartufato. Great starter, really amazing pasta dishes. The negatives? The service was not up to the expectation, the restaurant is heavily understaffed: there were two (2) good waitresses but managing too many tables and doing too many things... that prevented to properly take care of customers. Finally, we had to wait a lot between the starter and the pasta, and they only had 1 (one!) dessert (cheesecake, which was good however).

Canyon Fast Food is a hidden gem in Italy, discovered by chance during an Italian road trip. The food at this restaurant is top-notch, receiving a perfect rating of 5/5. The breathtaking views from the establishment also score a full 5/5. During our Italian roadtrip we ate here by just accident. But the food was 5/5, views were 5/5, friendly staff was 6/5. Thank you so much! And thank you for selling the Shell Oil Can ;) I really hope that some day we'll return.

Very good place for a nice meal and stunning views over the surroundings!

The food was mediocre at best (except for the fries, those were pretty good) they forgot 2 orders and the food took quite a while considering we were the only guests. View was amazing

Fantastic spot for a taste of the US or Italy. You can’t beat the view, especially at sunset. The double cheeseburger with bacon is great! Very chill, with lots of Americana kitsch. Gluten-free cresce, as well!

Delicious burgers and fries, and their house beers are amazing, especially the IPA. Excellent service and an amazing view as well!

Very good service. The burger and fried jalapeños were bomb. Highly recommended. It is hidden

I had a lunch there while visiting Urbano. Original place and decoration. Nice staff. And the pasta with truffle are very good!! Too bad that the pizzas are served only in the evening.

(Translated by Google) Word of mouth is needed to spread the word about this lovely pizza restaurant located just outside Urbino, on a side road that leads to an industrial area. Neapolitan pizza, traditional cuisine with a touch of innovation. Excellent fried calzone. And good fettuccine too. Now they also offer an All You Can Meat menu that I haven't tried, though. Friendly, fast, efficient staff. Low prices. The location is the old Urbino station and that's the look they've kept. Personale simpatico rapido efficiente. Prezzi bassi. Ampio parcheggio
