Linlithgow Palace, the elegant medieval ruins and birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, is a must-visit tourist attraction. Set within parkland by a picturesque loch, it offers a beautiful setting for exploration year-round. Nearby, St Michaels Church stands in close connection to the palace's history. Visitors with extra time can explore local beauty spots like Beecraigs Country Park and Blackness Castle.
Brilliant day at the jousting and reenactments event on the grounds of the palace. As we'd bought tickets for the event, we were able to access the palace also. Great fun exploring with fantastic views from the top of the tower. The jousting and medieval village together with the authentic music and costumes made for a really enjoyable family day out for not much money. Lots of stuff to get the kids involved
Phil W — Google review
As a fan of palaces and castles of all kinds, I was impressed. The palace is still undergoing renovation work, but definitely a place worth visiting. Beautiful view of the lake from the top.
Marek ( — Google review
A beautiful location steeped in history, the castle is remarkable and the loch is simply stunning especially in early spring. Had the pleasure of being able to walk most of the way around and found the trail pleasant and the locals friendly and accommodating. Would have loved ore time here, maybe another time if I'm up this way I will as I would certainly visit again. Nice location with plenty of amenities nearby.
Daniel D — Google review
Went to see the housing and the experience was brilliant, loads to do and everyone was exceptional! Getting to wander around the castle was great and wish I had enough time to explore but there was far to much to do and not enough of the day to do it. Would go again 10/10
Joe G — Google review
We were really looking forward to seeing the palace and we were not disappointed. What incredible architecture and a lesson in history. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We loved exploring the many spaces and levels. A must visit location in our opinion.
Sandi H — Google review
Great ruin that the are trying to maintain. They have alot of info regarding its past. Found it really interesting. Allowed to walk almost all halls and stairs, even allowed up on lookout point
ScottyDoesTV — Google review
Great day out to see the jousting and medieval tents. The kids loved every minute of it. Unfortunately, we didn't make it into the actual palace but gives us an excuse for another visit. Sittjng on the edge of Linlithgow Loch, the view was beautiful and the town itself is lovely. We'll definitely be back soon

Beautiful settings! Nice to see how much work is going into upkeep. At the price paid, I would expect some more lively and animated staff eager to take guests around.

Pub
Restaurant
The Four Marys is a charming stone-walled inn located in the historical town of Linlithgow. It offers a wide selection of 20 ales on tap, 26 malt whiskies, and an extensive wine list. The atmosphere is lively with both regulars and visitors enjoying the top-notch pints served by knowledgeable and friendly staff. The pub holds historical significance as it was once a family home situated near the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots.
We came here after visiting Linlithgow Palace and had a great time. The staff was attentive and kind and the food was excellent. I got the Duck Hash which was succulent and the sauce really made. The duck wasn't a huge fan of the egg on top but it was fine. The potatoes were soft and really crispy on the outside! We got sticky pudding as dessert and it was just delightful. The caramel sauce was well balanced and the ice cream really brought in all the flavors together. Would highly recommend to a friend to come visit while out of here.

We arrived in Linthigow late and popped our head in at 8.45pm to ask if we could still order food. Claire, the waitress assured us it wouldn't be a problem. Had a great meal and drinks without any problems. She filled us in on local events happening. Extremely friendly and engaging. There is informative history dotted around the pub about the 4 Marys. Loved it. Made it our local for 3 nights.

Tired after a transatlantic flight and trying to fight jet jag, we went to The Four Marys on recommendation of travel Youtuber @rogedwardstv The welcome was friendly. We got our drinks quickly and ordered our meal. Good atmosphere and interesting history. The food was delicious; loved every bite. Thoroughly enjoyed The Four Marys.

Very busy Greene King pub. The food looked good as it passed by but we didn't eat. Good beer choices including one from the local microbrewery Strangers. I'll have the food for sure on the next visit. The one thing that lets this pub down is too much seating in the narrow bar area. It's a real squeeze to get served.
Alan G — Google review
Delightful Pub style restaurant. Very lively and friendly. Service was impeccable waitress was delightful.
Mary K — Google review
The service was so slow we almost missed our tour bus. We were there at 12 when they opened and were the first people in the door however people who came in after us received their food before us and were able to actually eat their meals. We however were forced to forego lunch and they were unable to offer us take away boxes. Also, there was no cause at which a staff member should use profanity with a customer. If the staff would have been a little more attentive and communicative it would have been a completely different story.
Ashley B — Google review
An amazing pub. Fitted us in earlier than booked eventhough really busy. Very good service didn't get the waiters name but was so friendly and patient with our group. Accepted dogs within the bar area, which was great as had a dog with us. Food was really good portion sizes and value for money and worked around our various dietary requirements within the group.
Claire B — Google review
Was on an outlander bus tour. Went in for lunch. They took us to the back. We were one of the first people to be seated. She took our drink order, waited 15mins and never received our drinks. She served three other people and when we asked to order, she said you can wait two minutes. Totally unprofessional, I would not recommend to any tourism because obviously they only want to serve locals. The manager said it was because they were busy. I have never had such poor table service and the girl was just so rude. Thanks for the Scottish welcome! Too bad the bus driver promotes your location for lunch! I’m going to be leaving a review with the tour company advising all guest to avoid this pub. Seems like a reoccurring problem from the reviews, maybe some training is required for your staff on customer service.

Italian restaurant
Bar Leo is an intimate eatery in Linlithgow, West Lothian, offering a refined ambiance with its dark wood decor. Originally established as the Red Lion Inn in 1999, this Italian restaurant serves up creative Italian cuisine. Some of their popular dishes include Carpaccio Di Bresaola E Rucola, Scaloppini Alla Milanese, and Pizza Secco E Roccetta.
We didn't intend to eat Italian food while we were in Scotland, but the other restaurants' kitchens in this area were already closed. Having said that, the food and service was excellent. The staff was very friendly and made some great suggestions for us. We REALLY enjoyed our meal! Thank you, Bar Leo!
Alex S — Google review
We came on 3 Nov 2024. The menu at the door was not up to date, it's different from the menu inside, so some dishes no longer exist. We were polite, 'please' and 'thank you' weren't lacking, but not sure that's racism or because we have SEN kids in our group that made the waiter felt we were too noisy, he didn't serve us with patience and no smile at all, which made a big contrast when comparing with those services he provided to the next table of local customers. More, I felt under pressure when the waiter warned me if I not placing order in one go with other members of my table, I can only place order when their dishes being served. Back to the food, Spaghetti Bolognese was too wet and both this Spaghetti and Risitto Affumicato's taste were too light that like no seasonings. On the other hand, Fussilli Salmon Gamberoni was too salty. I can't comment on the food of my friend's family, but missing of dishes on kid's menu made disappointments. Although we finally sorted it out, but being cold-shouldered wasn't a good experience. Can't understand how this restaurant got high score. Definitely won't come back.
TF F — Google review
I had a strange experience. Everything felt rushed, like they wanted to get me out of there ASAP. I was only on my way to a table; I didn't even take a seat or look at the menu, and the waiter was like, "What would you like to drink?" Not long after that, he was checking to see whether I was going to have a starter or just a main and wanted to order everything in one forceful go. The food was too little for the price and not that good. I had Italian food at La Cucina a few days earlier and had a way better overall experience; their food was amazing.
Michael S — Google review
Had dinner there last night. Food not great, service even worse. I ordered veal milanese, pan fried in breadcrumbs. It was so greasy the breadcrumbs fell off. The manager and the waiting staff noticed I had not eaten the meal. No one asked if there was a problem. The waitress took the plates away. She asked if I wanted dessert or coffee. I just asked for the bill. The bill arrived with a 10% service charge. I didn't quibble, I gave the waiter £80. He then asked me if I wanted my change. When I was leaving, the manager approached me. I was at the front door. He asked if everything was OK. I told him the veal was inedible to me as I was so greasy. So greasy, in fact the breadcrumbs fell off into a greasy mess. He denied there was anything wrong and in fact, that was only my opinion. I told him quietly and politely, that neither he, or his waiting staff had made eye contact with me, as they knew there was an issue. No offer of an apology, not even a coffee or the offer of a refund for the veal. He was very defensive and very offensive. Do yourself a favour and stear well clear.
Brian J — Google review
Food was alright. The service was terrible. The manager looks the part but is just a whirlwind of inactivity. The waiting staff were good to start but then forgot we existed and just sat down at a table to do some busy work. Manager took a short break to join them. Got fed up and decided to forgo dessert as we might only have one contact left. All in all they've got the gall to stick a suggested 10% service charge on your bill but make no effort to provide the service to deserve it.
Rich — Google review
The food was incredibly good.
Nassere B — Google review
A really great place to eat. Excellent food and service. All a very positive and enjoyable evening.
Mark D — Google review
Good reliable food, good choice of dishes but nothing spectacular. Had to send one dish back - an afagato and the waiter had a little argument that the coffee should be cold. Eventually changed it. Service is out dated - consistently calling a sixty year old a young lady is condescending not cute. Otherwise good choice for family meal.

Nature & Parks
Parks
Beecraigs Country Park, situated near Linlithgow in West Lothian, offers a vast expanse of parkland with herds of red deer and highland cattle. The park is open to the public free of charge and provides an array of amenities including forests, open spaces, a fishing loch, animal center and bike trails. The park has several different walks that cater to various levels of experience with maps available at the reception. It's a great place for dogs too!
Beautiful park in amazing situation. Visitor centre is high on hill, with brilliant views north, east, and south. Cafe provides good food, and staff are helpful and friendly. Variety of woodland walks for all ages and abilities. Just beautifully kept, with clear signs marking the routes. Al in all ... a great place!!
Alasdair F — Google review
Beecraigs Country Park is a great place for anyone who loves the outdoors. There are miles of trails for walking and hiking, from easy paths around the loch to steeper climbs like Cockleroy Hill with amazing views at the top. If you enjoy biking, there are trails for all levels, including a skills area to practice jumps. Horse riding is also available, and families will love the adventure play area for kids. Orienteering adds a fun challenge, and there’s plenty of space to explore whether you’re on foot, bike, or horseback. It’s a perfect spot for outdoor fun and adventure. The park is also full of wildlife and peaceful spots to relax. You might see red deer or Highland cattle as you walk through the woods or along the water. The nature trails are beautiful and quiet, ideal for spotting animals or enjoying a calm walk. It’s also great for dog walking, with many paths and even a secure dog area. There are picnic tables near the Visitor Centre, and on clear days you can see all the way to Edinburgh and the Forth bridges. Beecraigs is a lovely place to unwind, enjoy nature, and spend a relaxing day outdoors.
Nicholas M — Google review
Lovely area, with lots of different options for walks, including a nice, mainly shaded walk around the Loch, which is great for hot days. Nice play park, suitable for various ages, Lots of picnic tables too, and water for dogs available. One criticism would be that they could do with putting more bins around the site.
Annie R — Google review
Great views. Country roads to get here. Be careful driving a Motorhome here. Local van drivers may take as much road as they like. The majority of drivers are courteous.
Ken S — Google review
We came to Beecraigs Country Park this morning hoping to see the animal attraction (Highland cows, deer, sheep, etc.), but unfortunately it has been closed down for years which was very disappointing since it’s still mentioned in many places online. There are no animals here anymore. The park itself is nice for walking and nature, but if you’re visiting mainly for the animals, be aware they are no longer part of the attraction
Lia G — Google review
I paid £14.85 for one night as a backpacker (no vehicle, one-man tent, no elec). A great location in the forest and the facilities were top notch. Feels petty but I reserve 5/5 for campsites that charge backpackers around £10.
Andrew E — Google review
Wonderful place to walk, lots of route options and safe for dogs off-lead, as well as plenty of bins, so generally it’s very clean. My only criticism is that the visitor centre cafe isn’t dog-friendly, so I can’t buy a coffee to take on my walk, like it do at other places.
Becky E — Google review
Beecraigs country park has a playground, Toilets next to carpark seating and Barbecue area. Dog-friendliness also good for bikes. Beecraigs country park has a caravan and tent site.

Nestled in an alleyway just off the high street of Linlithgow, Mason Belles Kitchen is a charming restaurant housed in what used to be stables for the palace. The establishment offers a trendy dining experience with options for brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, and elegant evening meals. The menu features fresh, local, and seasonal produce with unique twists that keep it ever-changing and affordable. Guests can expect a contemporary and inviting decor set in a lovely garden setting.
I'd like to make a complaint about the food. Why doesn't this place have a Michelin star? I can't fault it at all. The venison and steak frite dishes I tried were amazing. Service was fast and the waiters informed and happy. Thank you for making our wedding anniversary special.

We just had the best meal we could ask for in Linlithgow 😍 Mussels, Steak frites and the bes caramel mousse!! Thank you for an amazing service and the quality of our food

Wonderful place! Tucked away with wonderful food and service. We celebrated a milestone anniversary and we were so happy we chose Mason Belles! The staff were welcoming and attentive. We did drinks, an appetizer and meals. They did not make us feel rushed but rather seemed to know the timing. 10 out of 10 would recommend and we will be back!

Below average overall dining experience. I ordered a Cosmopolitan cocktail which was just shy of £10 and received what tasted like diluted cranberry juice with virtually no alcohol. Got a portion of mussels which was very over priced and not that many mussels itself. The manager looked like a waiter in training, his overall appearance and etiquette. I also ordered a Ribeye steak and got a pathetic portion of chips with it. Again sub standard.
Andrew S — Google review
Stumbled across this little place and immediately knew I wanted to have dinner there so we went the next day. Food was outstanding, scallops were delicious and the flavours were so vibrant. Maple chicken for the main and equally as delicious. Staff were super friendly and inviting, lovely atmosphere will definitely be back.
Claire H — Google review
Would not even give this place one star! First time trying here and booked table for 8pm waited 45 minutes for starters which was bad enough. I stated I was coeliac when I booked and also when server took our order. I ate the starter then waited another half hour for main course. When my gluten free venison came out it was with black pudding. I asked the server to clarify it was definitely gluten free he said it was I asked him to double check he went to the kitchen and returned and removed my plate saying he would sort it. Absolutely fed up by this point, the time the food took to come out then giving me food with gluten. We then said enough is enough and said we were leaving, we were told would only need to pay for our starters and drinks we wouldn't be charged for the main course, we then paid our bill including the drinks we left on the table!! Really need appropriate training on food allergies and step up the service, just hoping the starter was definitely gluten fee!

We booked a table last week, is a fantastic place for dinner. Little hidden gem I think I read somewhere and it's true. Lighting and mood was lovely. The place looks beautiful and cozy . The staff were fantastic, attentive but not over the top in any way. The food was the best I have had in a long time! It was hot , clearly made from scratch and with fresh produce. The menu is forever changing so when I looked it up I found the wrong one .. but that's just because I'm a picky eater, the choice when we were in was brilliant. Price - I will not complain was worth every penny, however the card machine didn't seem to have a tip option so if that's something you like to do carry cash. To be honest that was my only disappoint was I didn't have a note in my purse to leave with the bill. Will be back Our photos do not do the justice that the chef deserves

Cafebar 1807 provides a relaxed ambiance for individuals, their companions, and family members to dine, imbibe, and socialize. They offer a variety of meals throughout the day including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages. This establishment falls under the categories of businesses, places to eat and drink, pubs and bars, as well as restaurants. It is commendable that this restaurant has a specific section in their menu dedicated to vegan and vegetarian options.
Great spot for casual dining on a Sunday evening. Large variety on the menu. We had someone in our party of six with dietary restrictions and they were not encumbered. Tasty food with good portions. Meringue was a delightful surprise.

Visited Café 1807 yesterday and we tried both their Special Burger and Scot Burger – a delicious, indulgent experience from start to finish! Special Burger: This burger is a showstopper! Served in a soft, golden pretzel bun, the towering stack included a juicy beef patty with melted cheese, fresh tomato, and an epic beer-battered onion ring that added perfect crunch and flavor. It came with sweet potato fries that were crisp on the outside and soft inside – a great pairing. The side of coleslaw and mixed salad was fresh and creamy, balancing out the rich burger beautifully. Scot Burger: Also served in a pretzel bun, the Scot Burger featured a dense, flavorful black pudding patty layered over cheese and fresh greens. It was unique, hearty, and satisfying – a bold twist on the traditional burger that really celebrates local Scottish ingredients. The meal came with classic fries, crisp salad, and creamy coleslaw – all well-portioned and tasty. Setting & Service: We dined outdoors on a sunny evening with drinks (including a pint of Staropramen). The staff were attentive and friendly, and the presentation of each plate was clean and appealing. Verdict: Café 1807 delivers on both flavor and atmosphere. The Special Burger is perfect for those wanting something bold and crunchy, while the Scot Burger is ideal for fans of traditional Scottish flavors. Highly recommend both!

Visiting Scotland from Hertfordshire & we came to 1807 for my son’s birthday lunch after searching for somewhere nice online. The entire experience was amazing, faultless in fact, our server Saul went above & beyond and was so helpful with recommendations and so kind to our son. The steak pie was divine, as was the steak wrap! Beer & whiskey was excellent. The bar & restaurant was so pretty. Atmosphere & ambience delightful. Highly recommend and would definitely visit again next time we are here!

Lovely place with nice decor, friendly staff, good menu selection and tasty food. I've given 4 stars for service because we waited a long time to get our food, but that could've just been a one off on the day we were there, rather than the norm. I'd go again, it was good value and the food did seem fresh and decent quality ingredients. I had the full breakfast, which had everything you'd want included I think. I didn't realise it would be fried (I prefer to grill), so I wouldn't have that particular dish again, but there were plenty of other options to choose from 😋😁

Cozy cafe, very friendly staff. But the breakfast options were a bit bland. Some generic toast bread, with an avocado on top, some tomatoes and balsamic. Perhaps some salt, maybe even a poached egg on top or something would have spiced it up a bit.

Expensive but lovely home baking. Lemon mirangue could be a bit more softer. Went back in again on Saturday 29/723 & opted for their lentil 🍲 it came not to hot & not too cold, so i didn't need to send it back to be reheated, as I do in some other cafes. The lentil soup tasted very good BUT for me it was too watery. A view other cafés that i have reviewed - the soup is nice & thick ANYWAY the baked fluffy tattie 🥔 + the chicken 🐥 tika filling & the small lovely heart ❤️ shaped dish with coleslaw in it all gets 10/10 & i/we could even eat all of the skin on the potato - no hard or tough bits. The mirangue also gets a 10/10 and the next time i'm in i will have their homemade empire biscuit & their still made to the same recipe 2yrs ago. PS. the staff r very nice too. Back in again sat.6/1/24 Lovely fluffy baked potato 🥔 tasty chicken 🐥 tika filling BUT not as much as you would get in Aromas cafe Falkirk - it's loaded there along with a much more filling salad. I only left a very small bit of the skin from the potato in the 🍓 cafe. Their homemade scones are very nice & u also get free top ups of hot water. The café Bannockburn coffee house charge 50p for hot 🔥 water 😱 NOTICE the Strawberry 🍓 cafe's HALVE GRILLED TOASTIE that i spotted at another table 😱

The Chop and Ale House at Champany Inn is a lovely, quiet atmosphere with delicious menu options. The steak was impeccable, and the sides and portions were the perfect size. Staff were polite and helpful. One criticism is that they seem to have changed their house wine, but this was from a few years ago.hoping they will re-introduce Porterhouse cuts one day.
Great steak, and cooked perfectly

Very popular steak house. Good portion size. Expensive but your buying an experience. Warm, charming and cosy. Very meat focused food so if your a meat lover this is a good place. This venue sells boerawors which is a south african sausage cooked on an open fire. Off street car park down the lane. No need to book a table just arrive and wait in the nook for a table to become available Very limited vegetarian and GF options.
Christine L — Google review
Had lunch at the chop and ale house. I had sirloin steak, it was bang average, I expected better. The steak was somewhat overdone (I appreciate it's not an exact science) I asked for medium rare and it was medium towards well done. I regret not asking for rare. The steak was okay, quite a lot of gristle which I thought should have been trimmed. It was hard to see as the lighting is very dim. The chips were excellent though. My wife had a burger which she very much enjoyed. I finished with a hot waffle and ice cream which was very good. Overall the meal was overpriced and below the standard I would expect for the cost. They could do much better, I feel they are living off their reputation.

Steak is the best I’ve ever tasted. Miss the bread and coleslaw like they used to get but you cannot fault the steaks and service. 1st class.

A lovely, quiet atmosphere. Delicious menu. The steak was impeccable. The sides and portions are the perfect size. Staff are polite and helpful. My only criticism is they seem to have changed their house wine (though this was from a few years ago) and no longer offer Porterhouse cuts (which I and many of those who dine with me here miss terribly). I hope they'll re-introduce those one day.

Amazing staff that are attentive and friendly. You may have to wait on occasion but lovely little area to sit down in and enjoy a drink in front of the fire before getting your table. The food is always delicious and the burgers are quite something and have never had anything but positive experiences over the years.

Just go. That really should be the sum total of this review. If you like burgers and steak, in old Scottish farmhouse setting this is it. Doesn't really get much better. They rear all their own cattle and the meat tastes amazing. It's pretty simple menu but it's all good. The desserts are enormous. Be warned. The coffee is, well, coffee so dinnae expect ah soya flat white or fash aboot gluten free options and ye'll be braw. Don't eat breakfast, because you'll need an empty stomach to eat all those chips fried in lard. I think you can tell I like this place. It's been 5 years since my last visit and it's just as good and nothing's changed. As it should be with something as perfect as this. I see some other people say their steaks were sinewy or chewy. I had med-rare rib-eye and it was good. Yes the fat and connective tissue is hard to cut through, but that's par for the course unless you order a fillet. I wouldn't go past medium on the steaks as thats where they start to dry out. Especially near the thin bone end.
Michael B — Google review
Pretty good all around. I had a 500 gram ribeye to myself. The only thing I could complain about is that there was an excess of charring on my steak which skewed the flavour slightly. They must have been running their grill slightly too hot. It was a bit pricey too. The meat quality was reasonable, but I have had better at a lower cost.

Blackness Castle, a 15th-century fortress located in Blackness, Scotland, is often referred to as "the ship that never sailed" due to its unique shiplike form. This imposing structure offers stunning views over the Firth of Forth and has been featured in various movies and TV shows. Visitors can explore its historic significance and enjoy the picturesque surroundings. It's advisable to arrive early to avoid crowds and parking challenges.
Nice castle in great surroundings. Free car parks are small but I had no problems getting a space. Beach is made up of pebbles and mud flats. Lots of information and history. Great condition. Been in a few movies. Lots to see.

We were staying in nearby Linlithgow so took the bus. Easy, short trip. Blackness is incredible. What an amazing castle ruin to explore. And it has the bonus of providing a wonderful view of the Forth bridges. We explored every space and would highly recommend a visit.
Sandi H — Google review
Awesome castle. Loved it. Parking was in short supply but you can park in the village and walk to the castle pretty easily. This is one of the better preserved castles you can visit. It's very easy to imagine living here.
Trevor — Google review
Blackness Castle is one of Scotland’s most atmospheric fortresses — a dramatic, sea-washed stronghold that looks like it’s floating on the Firth of Forth. Often called “the ship that never sailed” because of its long, narrow shape and pointed towers, it’s easy to see why it’s become such a favourite for film fans (including Outlander). We explored the ramparts and courtyards, climbed the towers for sweeping coastal views, and wandered along the old pier that stretches into the water. The mix of sea air, gulls, and centuries-old stone gives it an unforgettable mood — part fortress, part film set, part time capsule. The castle is well-preserved and full of nooks to explore, with information boards that bring its history to life. It’s also a brilliant spot for photography, especially at sunset when the light hits the water and walls just right. If you love castles with character, Blackness Castle is one of the most striking and memorable in Scotland.

I will say that I was disappointed to find the castle closed on the day we were passing through. I can certainly say that this castle and surroundings are a must visit so close to the airport. Parking will likely be a problem depending when you visit, but there are some great spots down by the water - good luck hahaha. The walk up to the castle along the walkway is amazing - great view. The castle and grounds are in great shape and feel free to walk around the area and along the beach for some other great views. The cost of entry is very reasonable and there is a lot to go through. Try to arrange your visit when open to get the most out of the visit. Thanks.
Troy C — Google review
From afar, it looks almost like a battleship going to war, it is one of the most unusual castles, I have seen.Plenty of parking, good rates to see, gift shop, and the castle, with a outer viewing platform so you can get a good picture of this awesome castle. You can walk to most the platforms and up most of the towers.
Sher P — Google review
Was about to head back home after being in Edinburgh for a few days and map showed this so did a detour and glad we went. Really stunning castle with so much history and right on the sea. Beautiful outstanding scenery. Will definitely go back. Love my Blackness mug.💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡
Jindz K — Google review
A remarkably well-preserved castle situated in a unique and breathtaking location. The castle is quite impressive, offering a palpable sense of history. The visit was thoroughly enjoyable, allowing for ample exploration. We strongly recommend purchasing the guidebook, which provides detailed information on the castle's features, such as its 5.5-meter-thick walls and its architectural evolution over the centuries. It is highly recommended for those seeking a prime example of a Scottish defensive castle. The staff we encountered were really chatty and friendly and really wanted us to have a good visit. 100% recommended visiting.

House of the Binns is a magnificent 17th-century mansion nestled in picturesque parkland, showcasing an impressive collection of family portraits, porcelain, and antiques. Located near the charming Scottish town of Blackness in West Lothian, this historic site offers visitors a glimpse into Scotland's rich heritage and architectural legacy. The grand exterior resembles a castle, while inside, friendly and knowledgeable staff warmly welcome guests with complimentary tea, coffee, and locally made shortbread before embarking on an insightful tour.
Visited the House of the Binns on a sunny weekday and really enjoyed it. The staff were super friendly and the guide shared lots of interesting stories about the house. I'd definitely recommend booking ahead, especially if you're planning around a specific time. Free parking was a bonus too. All in all, a lovely, peaceful place to spend an afternoon.

Linlithgow Palace and Loch Circular Walk offers a delightful experience for visitors. The circular walk around Linlithgow Loch provides diverse views of the surroundings, including the ancient Linlithgow Palace across the water. The trail is popular among dog walkers and runners, and it's not uncommon to spot fishermen on the Loch. Additionally, bird enthusiasts can enjoy plenty of birdlife and ducks along the way.
I was on holiday and my Sister took me out to Linlithgow for an outing. We enjoyed the circular walk around Linlithgow Loch, we did it clockwise then anti clockwise. It is amazing the different views you get as you walk and take in all the surroundings. I particularly enjoyed the views of the ancient Linlithgow Palace across the water. We passed plenty dog walkers, some runners, so the trail is well known. It was interesting to see a couple of fishermen out on the Loch. I

We came here to see the famous and historically important Linlithgow Palace. It was under construction at the time, but still lots to see from outside and lots of info plates to read. We parked our car at the Water Yett Carpark just a few minutes away by foot. And that's actually a great starting point for this nice circular walk around the Loch. From the free carpark you can walk to the Palace and then keep walking counterclockwise around the Loch. The easy and flat trail leads all around the Loch (with a short detour to the main road). Nice and quiet. With nice views of the Palace from the other side of the Loch. It goes all around until you're back at the carpark. We took it very slow with our Bulldog and it took about 45-60mins. A very nice thing to do when visiting the town and the palace. There's also a picnic area by the carpark, a playground and a public toilet.

Chinese takeaway
Chinese restaurant
The Chinese takeaway Cuisine Kitchen offers delicious food at a reasonable price. The staff is very helpful and the guys are all piping hot. The portion size is decent compared to some places, and the food is all fairly good. Although it is not very spicy, you may want to spice up your dish if someone in your group doesn't enjoy spicy food. Parking is free outside the store.
Excellent food and such a wide range on the menu. The staff are really friendly and the place is immaculate. Looking forward to my next takeaway from here already :)

I really enjoy the food from here. However being a single person I seldom am able to order anything now as they have increased their card payments to £25. I'm sure they have their reasons for this but I feel it's excessive and probably loses them some custom.
WhoamI — Google review
Food is always brilliant and staff friendly. However, I really wish they’d be more honest about when the food will be ready. I’ll order on the phone, they’ll say “ready in 20 mins”, I’ll walk into the shop and only then they signal to the kitchen to start cooking. Completely defeats the purpose of ordering on the phone.
Roger L — Google review
The food was fresh and extremely delicious as always. Would highly recommend. We travel half an hour to go there as nothing else in Edinburgh comes close!

Great Chinese. Have eaten from here 3 or 4 times now and it's been consistently good every time. Prices are very reasonable too. My only issue is that the chow mein noodles are a bit thin. I prefer the thicker ones but it's just a personal preference.
Tariq O — Google review
Extremely busy which is a great sign. Helpful staff and the guys was all piping hot. Decent portion size compared to some places. Food was all fairly good, not very spicy but I guess that's what you need to do in case someone doesn't very spicy stuff. Would come back to try other stuff. Free parking outside.
Richy H — Google review
Order from here very occasionally and it’s not bad, however today I called up, 30 mins before close (plenty of time) and was told very bluntly that “that’s them cleaning up now”. I understand last orders for food needs to have a cutoff but when the place is open until 11, and there’s no tables, service shouldn’t be denied at half past.

The Lobster Pot is a charming restaurant located just a short walk from the castle. Its bright yellow facade and quirky nautical-themed interior make for a delightful dining experience. While lobster is a highlight on the menu, there are plenty of options for those who prefer other dishes. The restaurant's history adds to its appeal, and the friendly staff contribute to its welcoming atmosphere. Despite being popular year-round, booking in advance is recommended.
Took relatives for lunch and they live near here so first time for me, they’ve been many times. Absolutely amazing haddock and chips. Very old school restaurant near the sea. Like a proper step back in time. Parking isn’t the easiest but we got a space as you drive towards the castle and walked back, very short distance. Overall the food was excellent but I have 2 tiny gripes. I prefer mushy peas. And they served the excellent apple pie cold. No offer to have it warm as I prefer. But we later discovered the server, bless him, was his first shift and he probably just forgot. Not the end of the world though as that pie was delicious. I’m giving the restaurant full 5 stars because it genuinely was a pleasure. Top tip is book beforehand. We did and it was a good job as the place was rammed busy.

We enjoyed a delicious meal at the Lobster Pot after our visit to Blackness Castle. What fun, quirky decor. Our server was so friendly. We did let her know we were taking a bus and she accommodated our time restrictions as best she could which we really appreciated especially given how busy it was. My husband had an 11/10 burger. I had the chips and scampi. Absolutely delicious and probably some of the best chips I’ve ever had. We will visit again the next time we’re in Scotland.

I recently visited this charming spot and was instantly drawn in by its cozy ambiance and thoughtfully curated interior. The design is truly one-of-a-kind—warm lighting, creative decor, and a layout that makes you feel right at home. The food was fresh and beautifully presented, but what really stood out was a small note gave simple, friendly tips on how to enjoy the lobster properly—where to crack, how to extract the meat. 😋😀🫡 This place delivers both comfort and care.

Really love it! Is a great place , very cozzy and great atmosphere. The staff were very nice and the food, was one of the best seafood plates that I have had ;) . And the presentation as well, lovely. I recommended visit the whisky distillery, right beside the pub. Colm, the owner , is great crack ! We were very happy to met him. Thanks

Took a trip to blackness castle a few weeks ago with my partner and stopped in here for some lunch after a recommendation from a friend. Absolutely lovely place, was nice and quiet, tables were well spaced out, service was very quick, friendly and attentive. The main two selling points were the decor, very quirky with a nautical theme with lots to look at and discuss over a meal and the food itself. Unfortunately neither my partner nor I are big on seafood which is this place's speciality but I had the macaroni and my partner had a burger and both were excellent, very generous portions, obviously freshly made with high quality ingredients, would definitely recommend if you are in the area. While we were there it was quite a wet miserable day so we sat inside but it has a lovely exterior seating section out the back which would be fantastic on a hot day (rare in Scotland though they be)

Delivery Restaurant
From Italy To Scotland, formerly known as Nero, has undergone a change of decor and introduced a new menu. The restaurant is highly recommended for its excellent food, great service, and good value. Visitors praise the outstanding server Mharie for her joy and enthusiasm. The authentic Italian food is prepared by Italians, with the owner having previously worked as Head Chef in La Favorita chain. Despite its unassuming exterior, the restaurant offers excellent service and quality of food.
THE best pizza in Scotland!!!!!! ....and believe me, it is nothing to do with the size of the big pizzas (they are GIGANTIC) Run by Italians, food prepared by Italians. The owner resigned from the position of Head Chef in La Favorita chain to open this awesome place. Well done you!

Excellent food, great service, good value, thoroughly recommended! *update* After a change of decor and a new menu I'm happy to say that Nero (formally FItS) is better than ever. Two things I want to specifically say, firstly Mharie is lovely and an outstanding server and waitress, full of joy and laughs and enthusiasm. She's a treasure. Secondly the food is good, really good. It's honest and authentic. Apart from offering the best pizza in the area the pasta is superb, it's cooked just right with a vibrant and tasty sauce. It's obvious that the chefs at Nero love their food because that love is reflected in their cooking.

Called in today for breakfast after finding this place on Google while we were in Falkirk. Very good service from when we walked in to when we left. The food is top notch; the fish and chips and the burgers, especially. Ice cream is lovely, also. Love the farm shop layout. I see some reviews talking about the dour staff, and I agree - but only the older staff as the young people who served my mum and me were delightful. Highly recommended.

Definitely a must visit. Food is lovely, slightly small menu and could be difficult for someone who eats plain foods. A bit more on the expensive side but quality of food is good. Toilets could do with a refresh but otherwise the restaurant is well kept and clean. Staff were lovely and accommodating.

Lovely visit definitely worth a trip. Tables are very near each other but outside space for the summer times.♿️ Friendly

Another cafe/ farm shop - we found through good reviews and we were certainly happy to visit for our breakfast. The cafe was pretty busy so that was a good sign and once we'd ordered we could see why...... we ordered full Scottish breakfasts and a Latte each...... the wait was minimal for how busy the place was and the food delicious, couldn't complain about anything. There are plenty of staff so your well looked after and the young girls never stop running about fulfilling orders and cleaning tables, which is needed when it's as busy. We bought a souvenir from the shop, which was a reasonable price and also had a delicious ice cream on the way out. The toilet facilities are clean and modern..... Well worth a visit.......delicious!!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Been a few years since I was last here. Sadly I feel the quality has slipped since a possible change of owner. Portions less. Quality not as it used to be and overpriced. For what it was. The chicken mango and cheese toasted sandwich was as filling as the beef burger for half the price and was way tastier.

We’ve been to the Park Bistro twice now and it’s been fantastic each time, the food is great quality and all of our dishes have been delicious (*except for the Lemon Meringue Pie which was disappointing with solid meringue and soggy base but I have very high standards as my Mum makes the BEST) The Biscoff Toffee Waffle is epic! The Pork Tenderloin was incredible and everyone enjoyed it both times we’ve been. The staff are friendly even when it’s busy, memorable place.

Earl grey tea which you normally expect in a pot with a cup and saucer came in a half filled cardboard cup with the teabag hanging on the outside. The food came takeaway style in a paper bag, with disposable bowls, plastic lids and wooden cutlery. Food was nice but, if you don’t ever want to feel like a second class citizen, sit inside.

First time here. Great place. Very nice people and nice atmosphere. Family friendly. We had baked potatoes which were great. Nice way to end our Scotland trip!

It used to be a place we liked to visit due to its ambience and quality of food but I am afraid today’s experience was very different. We ordered baked potato, halloumi salad and truffle fries but except for truffle fries nothing was good. We had baked potato with cheese to start with and then when we asked about cheese we got served with cheese on top while it should have been on the hot baked potato so it could melt. Then they took it back and warmed it up so that the cheese melts, absolutely horrible service. No apologies nothing and they didn’t do anything to rectify the situation. Avoid it.

Fabulous food, ample parking, and great value for money. This place is uniquely positioned beside the canal, offering a lovely area to stroll and explore. What stands out most to me is how immaculate the staff are — something I find incredibly important when dining out. Clean, well-groomed staff create a great first impression, and sadly, that standard is becoming rare these days.

Day 3

Center of town
For day 3, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Taste, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Linlithgow. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

This 4-star eatery offers a quick service, although the noise level can be high due to the coffee machine and low ceiling. The food is decent but slightly pricey. The atmosphere is pleasant, with an appealing deli at the front offering a variety of products. The home baking selection is tempting. Some dishes were noted to be salty and fatty, while others found the hollandaise sauce too mustardy.
Quick service. Tasty fresh food. Went in wanting a baked potato. There was one option which we had. Would not have been my first choice, haggis, and cheese with chilli sauce, but actually very nice. Plenty sandwich and panini options but curious as to why no other baked potato filling options?

Our first visit to tastes cafe today 17th September 24. Really nice cafe and nice friendly staff welcoming us when we walked in. We bought two Stornoway black pudding rolls to take away. Omg! The roll was very good and fresh. We had Stornoway black puddings in kyle of lochalsh a couple weeks ago. They were so yummy. We would definitely come back for lunch next time. I would recommend friends to come here.

Stopped in here while on the Outlander tour in/near the highlands and had a good lunch. I had a Club sandwich, which was very good, accompanied by a salad and chips. Servers were very friendly and got us in and out very quickly.

We visited Linlithgow on a day trip, and decided to have our brunch at Taste Deli. It’s just a short walk from the railway station. We ordered the eggs royale, eggs Benedict, sausage roll, and trio of bread. The food was delicious! Everyone was very friendly, welcoming us to Scotland. The cafe was also bright and cheery, all which added on to the pleasant experience here. We enjoyed our meal here, and would highly recommend it to others.

What a wee gem of a place, you walk into what looks like a small Deli counter, but the cafe seating extends through the back into what feels like a little courtyard, it's charming. The food was excellent, and lovely to be able to have a glass of wine with a Charcuterie Board. Really fresh salad leaves, overall very enjoyable. Staff were lovely, if a little young. I didn't really appreciate them doing the "closing up" clean around about us, an hour and a half before they were due to close. But a minor issue and didn't spoil a very pleasant visit. I'll definitely return.

I’m from Melbourne, Australia where we have great coffee. The coffee at Taste was fantastic! Best coffee I’ve had since I’ve been in europe. This is my first visit to Scotland so I had to try the haggis and black pudding. Both were delicious. Great service. Highly recommend.

All round 4 star, although the service was quite quick, the area was noisy due to the low ceiling at the back and the coffee machine. Food wasn't too bad, although it was a bit pricey for some of it. The general atmosphere is quite nice and the interesting deli at the front looked to have some lovely range of products. The home baking also looked very tasty with a good range. Meals were a little salty and maybe a bit too much fat on the bacon for my taste, and hollandaise sauce was quite mustardy. Not my first choice but ,I would give it another try. Dogs are welcome however, which is a plus when your 4 footed friend can enjoy a sit-down meal as well.

Linlithgow Burgh Halls is a versatile space that houses an art gallery, a cafe with a garden, visitor information, events, classes, and elegant spaces for hire. It's conveniently located near Linlithgow Palace and St Michaels Church. The building itself is stunning and offers various amenities for visitors to enjoy. Additionally, the venue hosts weddings and other events with its picturesque setting and well-arranged facilities.
We attended a wedding here. And everything was perfectly arranged. Only small downside was thst there are only toilets on the ground floor. Which are also public so at the end of a busy day they are horrible. The staff and location in general are a perfect setting for a wedding. The stairs form a perfect location for the group photo. And the upper level a nice light location for the ceremony.

The Burgh Halls cafe is a very well hidden gem. It's quite small but has a large outdoor seating area. The menu isn't huge but the quality is very good. The staff are so polite and helpful. A great lunch stop after a stroll around the Loch. Definitely 5*.

Stopped here for a coffee and a fruit scone. A seagull nearly made off with the scone, but it was such a substantial snack that he only managed to get away with a mouthful. The staff are friendly, and the grounds are rather beautiful.

I've been loads of times to this cafe and wld normally give it 5 stars. Today, however, I was sorely disappointed. Cafe latte had to be returned as it was cold and came back not much better - the toast was very underdone but didn't want to return it after complaining about the coffee. When paying for it I saw it was 4 young girls doing the work. The normal staff are top notch and food is always great. Such a disappointment today. It's a shame because this will tarnish its reputation. I'll go back but not on a Sunday.

A beautiful, centuries-old church with an amazing interior. If you are a fan of such places then you will not be disappointed. Amazing stained glass windows and vaulting

Most visitors head to the palace next door, but we used the access to the church. The church is built in a traditional gothic style and is beautifully preserved and maintained inside. A lady greeted us at the entrance and even gave us a leaflet with the history of the church in Czech. From a distance, the church is already striking with its "golden" crown on top of the tower, accessible from several parking lots by a comfortable walk around the pond up a slight hill. In the church, the design of the ceiling and the beautiful stained glass windows are impressive. A stop on the way to the Scottish Highlands is recommended.

Looks stunning from the outside, but once you enter through the door, it's even better. A really lovely old Parish Church adjacent to Linlithgow Palace in guess where ? Linlithgow. The church is in beautiful condition and is regularly in use, there are some beautiful stained glass panels, the ceiling is really nice, this could well be one of the smaller cathedrals in England. It is really quite quiet and you can have a few moments of contemplation in peace. The staff are really friendly, chatty and helpful. If you are in the area please do visit, it is free.

This library/museum is a wonderful place to come and explore the history of the town. There's a worksheet you can use to add more flavour to the visit for schoolchildren (even teenagers!) and there are a few interactive exhibits (the drug recipe one was great, though a little finicky) as well. As an ex resident of Linlithgow I visited for the special showcase of Low Port Primary that was in the community room of the museum. It was nice to see how the school has changed over the last 50 years it has been a primary school. The museum also was insightful as it drew my attention to a number of industries that were once in Linlithgow. Other than the distillery and an army barracks I was totally unaware of the other products produced in Linlithgow. If you have an hour in town make your way there. It is free and we'll worth your time. We also tested the accessibility, which at the weekend is taped off, but we were able to get access to the lift and it all being step free.

Visitors can also explore Scotland's only Canal Museum and Tea Room housed in a former canal stable.
We thoroughly enjoyed our boat trip to Linlithgow Aqueduct. The crew were all volunteers in their 60s who were absolutely adorable and lovely. The boat was also equipped with free tea, coffee, biscuits and drinks. We made a 20mins stop at the Aquaduct to explore the impressive structure and sailed. It was a lovely experience and I highly recommend bringing some spare change to tip the crew.

Catholic church
St Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Linlithgow is a remarkable example of a large medieval burgh church, with most of the current structure dating back to the 15th century. Although there have been some restorations in the 19th and 20th centuries, it still retains its historical charm. The church boasts stunning stained glass windows and offers a peaceful atmosphere that visitors find welcoming. It is located near the palace and provides a lovely setting for ceremonies or simply enjoying the views.

Ok, the pictures on here are mainly for the other st. Michaels church in the town. This one is the much more down to earth. It's ok, it's a pretty standard church though. The main church of Scotland one is only a few hundred meters away beside the palace. Its much more grand and picturesque.

Nicholas M — Google review
While originally built in the 13th century, the Church of St Michael has been repeatedly damaged, especially during the Scottish Reformation and later the English Civil War (apparently Oliver Cromwell's troops stabled their horses in the nave). In the 19th century, basic attempts at restoring the church were taken, including white-washing the walls and putting in a plaster ceiling. In the 20th century, a modern steeple was introduced. Today, the cathedral is forgettable: any historic significance is hidden behind poor attempts at restoration. The ceiling, in particular, reminds me of a trend we saw frequently in Germany, where plaster would be painted with a brick like pattern, presumably to make it look like stone. The technique is poorly done, however, and does little for the presentation of the church. Whether you're interested in church ruins or well-preserved historical architecture, there are far better examples throughout the UK. Drop by if you're at Linlithgow Palace, but there's no reason to go out of your way to visit this church in its current state.

About a year ago, there was a café called Aran located in Falkirk that was highly regarded and came close to winning a topscone award. Unfortunately, it has since closed down, but the same owners now operate a new Aran establishment in Linlithgow. The original plan was to report on this new location at some point in the future. The café offers excellent breakfast options on Sunday mornings with carefully prepared and delicious food that clearly reflects the care and attention put into its creation.

We stopped in Linlithgow on a group tour and my best friend and I stepped in aran for lunch. It was bustling, which is completely expected, because it was so delicious!! We had the veggie haggis toast, cauliflower wedge, and took hot chocolates and a scone to go. Everything was exceptional, service was friendly and quick. I was so excited about all of the veggie options! Our hot chocolates were divine. Everything was incredibly reasonably priced. We loved aran so much we hope we can return just to come back to this cafe.

Place looks lovely from the outside, but seemed very unorganised inside amongst the staff. No one seemed to know what they were doing. Ordered two coconut milk hot chocolates with marshmallows & cream, one salted caramel, to go. Took 20 minutes for the hot chocolates to be made and they were about to be made for sit in before we said something. Only one was actually made with coconut milk, we didn't bother saying anything because it wasn't an allergy just a preference as we had already waited that long for our drinks and our parking was about to be up. The cream on top was probably about a teaspoon full and barely any marshmallows. After we finally got our drinks they were pretty much tasteless. I threw mine in the bin. Especially the salted caramel hot choc. Quite a let down, a waste of time and money. Sad to say we won't be back.

We randomly stopped in completely ravenous after a tour. We ordered the cream of mushroom soup with a cheese scone, side salad, and the warm vegetable bowl. The vegetable bowl is hands down the BEST warm grain bowl I’ve ever had! Everything is roasted perfectly, the flavors and textures are complex, and it wasn’t oily. I could eat this everyday for the rest of my life. I need the recipe! The mushroom soup was equally delicious. Definitely try it if it’s the soup of the day! Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by this place! The staff is also very nice.

Linlithgows Costa is nicer than most of their branches, but more comfy seating would be nice, chairs are a bit hard. The lighting is nice, walls are painted in lovely autumnal colours which gives a glow to the place creating a relaxing aesthetic, but if they put up some soft white fairy lights, we'll it would be perfect. Music is not too loud, usually a nice acoustic selection, and I think u can buy the CD from them too or is that Caffè Nero? 🙄, anyway, the blueberry muffins are the best I've ever had, their sausages in a roll are delicious and not herby, which usually means inferior produce. Staff are friendly and efficient. Just the seats,... you don't want to hang about too long, which is a shame, as I might be inclined to have seconds lol.

Each time I have came here they have forgot to serve me my drink. I have paid, and they have served multiple other customers while not acknowledging me standing there waiting. There always seems to be a huge queue and the staff are usually running about frantically. The bin was over flowing on my most recent trip and there was coffee dust all over the counters. Don't go here, spend your money in independent coffee shops like The White Dove and So Strawberry!

Nero Pizzeria is a popular Italian restaurant that never disappoints. The pizzas are fresh and delivered straight from the oven, and they taste amazing - even better than they do at home! The staff are friendly and welcoming, and it's a great place to bring the whole family. I couldn't rate it highly enough!
Had a fantastic experience here on Saturday. We didn’t have a booking but they managed to fit us in. The staff were great, particularly with our 1 year old. The food and drinks were great - we’ll definitely be back.

Best way to start our holiday. 28 degree evening in Linlithgow and couldn’t have asked for a better way to start our holiday! 10/10 pizza and service. We ordered BBW Smoked chicken pizza and Peppeppizza with honey!! So so good Thank you again for the great service guys. Really made our day

A fantastic experience! The pizza is authentic, light, and perfectly cooked, just like in Italy. Credit also goes to the service, which was not only very kind but also extremely professional and attentive. A place that truly deserves recognition. I highly recommend everyone try it!

Honestly, I’ve had better takeaway pizza from Dominos for about the same price. Toppings were so uneven and all over the place, base a soggy mess and for some reason the extra Parmesan I asked for was in uneven chunks rather than grated like you’d usually expect. Also had to wait somewhat longer than the expected collection time. Not the first time this place has failed to live up to expectations, I’m gonna pass on them in future.

Very nice pizza done in a wood burning pizza oven and the fries with parmesan and chilli were lovely and crispy. Hadn't been here for a while but will certainly visit again.

My kids are so fussy and pizza is a real go to for them, especially homemade. Our friend actually recommended Nero's so we decided to head along. We used the website to book a table but it was actually quiet so we could probably have just walked in. Lots of take away orders though. Our servers were lovely, very attentive and professional, food was delivered quickly and was really tasty. Lots on offer on the menu, not just pizza, there were wraps, burgers, pasta and salads. Very reasonably priced too so the bill didn't break the bank and we had dessert too. Definitely a place to visit to eat in.

As good as always. Me and family love the pizza there. All the staff are lovely and tonight they also added a candle for my daughter's bday on top of the fantastic pizzabites and all sang happy bday! She was delighted and her smile was worth more than million words. Thank you, great pizza place and great people.

6 of us turned up with no booking and they got us seated, ordered and food on table very fast. Pizzas were amazing and the loaded fries were unbelievable good. Portion sizes were very good and the staff were great. Thank you for a great night

The Old Post Office Bar in Linlithgow, Scotland, is a recently converted public house that offers a vibrant atmosphere with weekly live music, karaoke, and DJ entertainment. It caters to sports fans with large TV screens for watching Sky Sports while offering a wide variety of ales and beers. The friendly staff provides excellent service and the menu features delicious options at reasonable prices.
Pretty dam good value. Our whole lunch was around £23 for both of us. Are light but excellent food quality! KJ, from the kitchen was fantastic! There was a football (soccer) game in and we loved every minute. While my wife was writing postcards to the kids lol! I was catching up on some work stuff but great spot.

Traveling friends you need to come to the post office. You need to find the bartender, Her name is Sophie. What a wonderful hostess!. Can she pour your pint? Just one pint, you say? What makes a pub or bar memorable? This would be the staff there to cater to your experience. Sophie and her fellow associates took good care of us. They showed great interest and above all were eager to make our experience a memorable one. I agree. I will remember it to the day I die. Hopefully I won't die anytime soon so it will be a long memory, but should I die immediately? Damn! This was not planned. Sophie, should you be reading my review, I thank you so much for the great time we had. I hope that others who travel and visit your establishment will find such a wonderful time as we did. I look forward to a time in the future when I can visit again.

Badly run down pub. Hasn’t seen any maintenance or renovation for at least a decade. Greene King are allowing it to deteriorate. Toilets need an upgrade and they need to rip out what’s left of the carpeting in the bar and wash the floor properly!

I created an account just to come and leave feedback for this place. My husband and I came in yesterday for lunch and were just blown away. We're not from Linlithgow, but we felt leaving like we had been part of the town for years. The sign outside wasn't kidding when it said "warm welcome". We were greeted by, I think, Stephen and Fiona. Asked how our day was, where we would like to sit, and how we would like to order. We sat down near the bar, ordered food at the bar and had a look at the drinks options. A great selection on tap, although would have loved to seen more IPA options. Service was great, food was amazing. We were told the macaroni cheese was homemade, as was the soup. So we ordered both. You would never have known you were in a chain pub; it was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. We did overhear the bar staff speaking about new flooring going in, and some refurb works and how the pub would look after it was completed. We will definitely be back to see how it looks, it sounds so exciting and you could tell that they were all so passionate about this pub. We truly had an exceptional experience in here, and for a couple of people from the far North, we absolutely will return to Linlithgow when next in the Central Belt. Well done folks, you are a credit to the establishment! L.x

Best cooked eggs I have ever had cooked for me on a breakfast. Had some proper rubber tyres in other spoons before. Lovely atmosphere, staff, presentation. Toilets were clean. A credit to Edinburgh.
Michael C — Google review
Our loaded fries looked like the cheese had turned, were cold, and my "pie" was an ancient dry crust pocket with 4 cubes of overdone beef inside. The inside was sad, with all the apolstry covered in cracks and faded, carpet worn away. You also have to answer 10 questions to get logged on to their WiFi, and then download their app to order anything (after yet another survey). This vibe followed me home where I'm pretty sure my body recognized the food as a foreign invader. Service was nice though.

The drinks selection is fantastic – plenty of choice whether you’re after a pint, a cocktail, or a dram. We went to this little town only because I liked the name and surprise... we found a hidden treasure. This building from a distant past is beautiful and reasonably well preserved, surrounded by an old cemetery. Now we have another piece of Scottish history to show our friends when they come visiting Bonnie Scotland!

As soon as we visited the Procepetory we fell in love with it. The history and vision of the building was amazing. We had great communication with all the members and they couldn't do enough for us. We were made to feel at ease and nothing was a hassle. We had the most magical day from start to finish and I would recommend this to anyone as a venue for any special events whether it be Wedding, Christening etc.. On behalf of not only my husband and I but my whole family we thank the team at St John's for all their help and we admire their dedication. Thank you so much Mr and Mrs Morrison.

Play Bugs is a fantastic venue for hosting children's birthday parties. The staff are incredibly attentive and helpful, ensuring that all party logistics are taken care of so parents can relax and enjoy the celebration. The soft play area is spacious and engaging for kids, providing a safe environment for them to explore and have fun. Additionally, the on-site model railway store adds an extra element of excitement to the experience. The friendly and accommodating staff make it a memorable and enjoyable place for both kids and parents alike.
We had our little one 2nd birthday organised there and were very happy with it. It's mostly served by young girls, but they are professional and helpful. Meals for parents are not bad: one of the better sausage rolls I had is from there. For birthday party is actually quite good value: all prepared, no cleaning to do afterwards, you only need to provide birthday cake and decorations

We selected Play Bugs as our daughter's 3rd birthday party venue. I must say we were certainly not disappointed. The decor we gave them was intricately put together, the party games was really good and the kids really enjoyed the soft play area. The environment was quite intimate so we had the place all to our selves. My daughter absolutely loved it. Thanks Play Bugs for making her day special. To top it off the staff were accommodating and friendly.

Booked a 4 year old’s party here and was impressed with everything. Excellent staff who were great with the kids, they were on top of allergy requirements and they have a good softplay setup. Let us use our own playlist for the birthday party which the kids loved. Can see why this is so popular for birthday parties in the area. Will be back with the kids some time soon

We had never visited Play Bugs before visiting for our little one’s birthday party. The experience was well beyond expectations and a lot of that is thanks to the staff working there. They were super attentive to everything and helped out as much as they possibly could with all the party logistics. Can’t recommend them enough for a party! Also, the soft play itself is great for the kids. Really accessible and lots to explore. (Do check out the model railway store that’s on site too!)

Lake
Linlithgow Loch is a picturesque freshwater spot in West Lothian, formed over 10,000 years ago by a retreating glacier. It's one of only two natural lowland lochs in the region and offers opportunities for trout fishing as well as sailing, canoeing, and kayaking. A leisurely walk around the 2.5-mile perimeter takes about an hour or two and treats visitors to stunning views of Linlithgow Palace and a wildlife sanctuary.
The walk round Linlithgow Loch is beautiful mostly Paved -views of palace beautiful - childrens playpark slight detour onto busy road so make sure dogs on lead - Linlithgow has an array of quaint shops cafes and coffee shops Linlithgow palace temporarily closed at present but grounds open

Nice walk, quite easy, mostly paved style paths. Nice views of the loch and palace all the way round, about a 2.5 mile walk and decent footwear is advised. Had a few problems with midges even this time of the year but spray kept them pretty much at bay. Good bird life by way of swans and ducks and the odd corvid. Hoping to revisit in the cooler months when it’s not midge time 😂
Diane O — Google review
Honestly it's a very nice location if you want to go on a morning jog or just sit my the lakes on one of the many spots and enjoy the view especially when it is sunrise. Would also recommend bringing kids as there's a lot of wild life especially ducks, geese and swans that you could feed. Overall its a nice spot with usually friendly people who walk their dogs.

Beautiful little loch , not far from the centre of the town. Lovely place to walk , swans seem to follow you expecting to be fed , there are a couple of free car parks nearby so it is easy to park up to enjoy this lovely place.

Fish & chips restaurant
After reading some unfavorable reviews and having visited the establishment numerous times in the past, I wanted to share my thoughts on Golden Chip Linlithgow. The staff members are pleasant and are doing an admirable job given the current circumstances. Moreover, their fish and chips are exceptional, truly making this place stand out as an excellent chippy. Their chicken supper is also noteworthy, arriving home still hot and delicious.
Popped in here today and had probably the best fish and chips I've had for a long time. The customer service was excellent and they really proud of what they are doing. Food was cooked to perfection. I had the Special Haddock supper with a haggis on the side 😋 with a buttered roll and will be returning!
Ellen G — Google review
Efficient, friendly staff serving decent portions and crucially the fish was a good deal fresher than most places seem to manage (which is always strange considering there's nowhere in Scotland much more than an hour's drive from the sea). Also tolerated my Edinburgh tendency to ask for "salt and sauce" and just double checked I meant brown sauce!
Rowan G — Google review
The food is fine. The prices are not. Regardless of rising costs which every takeaway has, these prices are insane compared to other local chippies. These are Edinburgh prices. I bought 5 items and my nephew wanted a small bottle of juice, that alone was around £2.50. As someone who lives in the area having just moved, I like to know that there is a good, honest fish and chip shop nearby and I'm sorry but at those prices it's off putting and I'd rather drive to go collect elsewhere. Disappointing. To add to your response...nowhere did I say I enjoyed the food. It was fine. I've had better.
Vicky T — Google review
Great food, amazing scotch sellers and so friendly, the all town deserve to be visited, recommend to be visited through Rabbis tour or take the bus from Edinburgh. The town has amazing castle on the lack and many beautiful birds, be sure you have some bread to feed the ducks and the birds :)
Soul D — Google review
The fish and chips here are fantastic and very plentiful. Their curry sauce is one of the best I've tasted in Scotland. The only problem I have, which is very small, is that a lot of staff look permanently annoyed. They look like the customers coming into the shop are a hindrance to their day. The fact that on more than one occasion. I caught some of them rolling their eyes because a customer wasn't choosing quick enough, or hadn't heard them call for "next". Now to be completely fair it isn't all of them, but it is a few, and on more than one occasion. I get it work isn't always the most exciting place to be, but at least try and make an effort. The food thankfully saves the day here.
Ian P — Google review
Picked up our order, excited for the food as we don’t eat out often…. Felt very disappointed with the food. Portions were small compared to other places and the quality wasn’t great either. When you’re spending £13 on a fish supper it’s very disappointing and even worse with a sausage supper
Jay K — Google review
Not been here in a long time but was quite disappointed this evening, portion sizes are so small, sausages half the size of anywhere else and tasted cheap. The curry sauce tastes fruity and possibly indian( not really chippy curry sauce) it tasted weird and had black bits in it. Staff were friendly but we Sadly won't return as we came home still hungry and it wasn't cheap either.
Lisa M — Google review
Hard to find a parking space but got there eventually. Nice looking large chippy and clean looking. Staff seemed a bit angry but everyone has a bad day at work don't they, so I really can't mark down on that for one visit alone. Food was just ok. Chips a bit dry and fish was really thin and a bit dry as well. Service was very fast which is great. Wouldn't use again sorry, might have been a one off who knows.

Indian restaurant
If you're looking for a delicious and authentic Indian meal, Delhi's Winter is the place to be. The menu has a wide selection of dishes, all of which are fresh and affordable. Plus, the restaurant is very busy, which means you'll get great service.
I was in the restaurant on the 2nd of October 2025 with my wife and in-laws for the food and wine tasting night, and what an unparalleled success. The whole place was buzzing, the staff were outstanding and polite as always and the food was nothing short of sublime. I've been to Delhi Winters many times, and have yet to have an OK meal, it's always been a step above, but the whole structure of this specific evening was an absolute triumph. The wines were expertly chosen to compliment each course, and the champagne for a welcome drink was a touch of class. I cannot wait for future events, as I truly feel, that introducing these nights will escalate Delhi Winters to the next level. The Thalis, (veg and non veg), were a master stroke as it introduced each diner to a dish that they may not necessarily have ordered. I for one would not normally go for a veg style starter, especially mushrooms, but the mushroom paté in pastry, (that would rival a greggs steak bake), I would eat that until the cows came home, sent back out and then wait on them coming home again. The Prawn curry, the lamb chops, the potato and cauliflower dish, butter chicken, Tikka paneer, cabbage and peas (who knew?) then the desserts, OMG, carrot cake to die for and the chocolate fondant with ice cream and pistachio drizzle was a perfect way to end a perfect evening. Everything was absolutely exquisite. Bravo to every one, and THANK YOU.
Daniel S — Google review
Small place but free parking around the back. Starter was decent and not over cooked. Goan fish curry was very well balanced so well done to the chef. Would come back here and try something else. Portions are small but that's the only negative as the food was all great. Worth a gobble if you are in the area.
Richy H — Google review
As tourists, we decided to eat here. Best decision of my life. The person at the front was very friendly and ensured we had a pleasant experience eating, and food was top quality. However, the vegetarian food was slightly worse than their non vegetarian counterpart. All types of Indian food is allowed here, though I'd recommend exclusively having North Indian cuisine. Recommended.
Sam S — Google review
Spotted this by chance, needed to exit hotel, didn’t do usual Google maps search, just turned up after a wander through Linlithgow. Lamb chops, chapatis, sag aloo and an accompanying sauce were all recommended by Rehman, the waiter who drew me in. I’m glad he did both as it’s probably the tastiest meal I’ve had in some time. I wish I could get that sauce recipe, can’t quite pin it down and I know I’ll struggle to replicate it. Chapatis freshly cooked, sag aloo not just a side show but a key player, lamb was prolific, tasty, tender, sat on mouth watering charred onions and peppers. Isn’t that enough? Outside doesn’t do this place justice. Their outside tables and chairs are a bit worn and the view of Tesco’s isn’t the best but they had flower boxes out. The inside does look very welcoming but tonight it was just too hot. I hope to return.
Richard B — Google review
We had a wonderful time at Delhi's Winter on Sunday. 5 of us went there for lunch, our server Rehman was always there with a big smile. The taste of food was good and better than few reputable Indian restaurants in Edinburgh. Only thing that these guys can improve on is time taken to prepare and serve. Overall, it was a very good experience and would be back here whenever we are visiting Linlithgow.
Chirapriya S — Google review
Food is good, but delivery service is very poor. We’ve had several meals delivered. Always add 30 minutes to any estimate offered (even if it’s a long wait). For example, our last delivery took 2 hours 10 minutes (no apology). Not very friendly in either order taking or delivery. Spoils the enjoyment of the meal.
Daryn M — Google review
Definetely "The" best Indian food we have had the pleasure of eating. We travel 140 mile round trip for our curry! Absolutely great food and service by "Rehman" and his team. Coming from Manchester originally and having tried most of the restaurants on the Curry Mile and then hundreds of others on our travels, we keep coming back to Delhi's Winter as it is our favourite and in our opinion the best food. Don't be deceived by the outside appearance, it's not posh but really superb food and service at a realistic price. Gail and Steve xx

20/2/24 I sat beside 2 auld dears from Bo'ness when i boarded the bus in Grangemouth & they were going shopping in Stirling & i told them i was going to Stirling too & asked them if they knew a friend that i went about with from Bo'ness & they said that they knew her & her family very well & i told them that she had died & had gone to Heaven & how she got their was by her faith in truly believing that Jesus died for sins. They also surprised me by telling me they were going for an Indian meal & i guessed the MAHARATA yds up King St. & i was right & told them it was a good restaurant, then they said we thought of trying the Indian Cottage which is easy walking distance from the Thistle ctre & i said it was even better & the last time i was in there my food came out, not just hot, but SIZZLING hot🔥 Sorry for diverging. When i left having the lovely thick soup & a coffee ☕ in CHESTERS 👍 i went into the Ashman well after 5pm & there were only a couple in there. The 3 staff i met & were served by were all very friendly & easy to talk with & you can read my comments on the pictures & the short video BUT one thing i noticed in other photos as well as mine, there seemed to be strong colours of dye added to the food - I might be wrong, but that's what it looked like to me. It was a good idea to have that bottle of Alcohol Gell on the table 😁 Please be aware - they don't open in the afternoons.

Best Indian meal I have had in a very long time. Lovely premises and very friendly and helpful staff. Cannot find a thing to criticise only praise - have to try if you like really good food and excellent staff..

I ordered a take away from ashmann a coupleof days ago. This restuarant has always been one of my favourite Indian restaurants. Unfortunately the meal on Wednesday evening was very disappointing. I ordered a chicken and Lamb dish. Both dishes were mixed up with the chicken in the curry dish that was meant to be lamb and vice versa. The lamb was very tough and the chicken had grizzly bits of cartilage in it. It was a real shame as the two sauces were lovely, both meats were what let it down . Will have second thoughts in ordering from here again.

The Linlithgow Walking Football Club had our Christmas Curry night at the Ashmaan and were not disappointed. Met by nice friendit staff who took our order and served us in a nice timely fashion which couldn't have been easy as there was 20 of us there. The food was excellent and the generous portions went down a treat. Great atmosphere probably caused by bring your own bottle house rules which certainly added to the banter. Well done to all the staff to contributing to a really good night out. Fabulous night out and would throughly recommend the Ashmaan for a good night out.

Nestled along the picturesque banks of the Union Canal, Bridge 49 Cafe Bar & Bistro is a delightful spot to unwind after a day of cycling or exploring. With its inviting atmosphere and friendly service, it’s an ideal place for families and dog owners alike. The cafe offers a varied menu featuring delicious breakfast options like perfectly poached eggs, haggis, and black pudding that are both fresh and flavorful.
Absolutely lovely restaurant. Decor is so modern yet homely. Staff are friendly. Nice menu variety. Gluten free options for breakfast and sandwiches. Good value for money. Dogs are welcome. Outside seating area on the canal so your able to watch the boats coming by. Near the park so perfect for before or after your walk for a cuppa.

Here is a nice cafe/bistro on the banks of the Union Canal a couple of miles from Linlithgow. We stopped of for a coffee and cake, not long after opening time, when out cycling. As such we were the only customers hence only 3 stars for atmosphere as we only had ourselves for company 😕😅 Service was very good and friendly and coffee and cake was good. There are several picnic type tables outside along with a couple of unusual pods that have to be pre booked. Dog and kid friendly.

Had a nice time here. Next to the canal so you can walk here if you like long walks. Free parking and decent staff. Soup was good and not over salted. Sandwich was with decent quality bread and filling was good. Nice coffee and nice place, worth a visit. Pretty relaxed and they have seating outside for summer. Not too expensive and has free WiFi as well.

We walked here along the canal and over the Aqueduct from Linlithgow for a very pleasant light lunch before returning via the Avon path. The cafe is light and airy, the staff were friendly. The menu is varied but not extensive. The prices are reasonable and the place was very clean. Our soup and shared sandwich were delicious. The Ginger beer was very refreshing as the day had warmed up considerably.

Gorgeous location on the canal. Big selection of drinks from coffee to alcohol. Delicious lunch or snacks available, very tasty cakes. Lovely, welcoming staff. Book a pod for a real treat. Nothing to dislike.

Food was soo tasty, busy place, area outside overlooking the water, plenty of car spaces. I had the haggis and steak burger and my fiance had the Cajun chicken burger both with really tasty chips and dips. Couldn't fault it. 😀

Bridge 49 is a nice cafe if you’re looking for a decent quality breakfast when about and about with the family. Beautiful location by the canal and you can even pre book one of their outside dining pods for later in the day! Full breakfast is very well cooked and decent for the price. Proper poached eggs that are fresh, black pudding and haggis that isn’t greasy, and overall really tasty and hot when served. Only giving 4 stars because I was given the vegetarian sausages by mistake, but the waitress wasn’t convinced and initially insisted they were normal. Had to speak to the front of house and chef before getting the real ones and acknowledged their mistake. If you order water, would advice you ask for a large glass as the ones served are very small but the coffee is very nice all round and they normally serve fresh cakes and treats at the counter to take away.
