Oswiecim in 4 days

If you only have 4 days to spend in Oswiecim, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Oświęcim, commonly known as Auschwitz, is a town in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship of Poland. It is one of the best known Polish cities in the world, because of the Auschwitz concentration camp that was located there. The camp was first liberated by the Soviet Army on 27 January 1945, hours after the Nazis fled the camp, and now houses a museum detailing the history of those who died there. Other attractions in Oświęcim include the Main Market Square, and a number of historical museums.
With favorites like Muzeum Wódki 1804, Restauracja NaNovo | restauracja Oświęcim, and Antalya - Doner Kebab, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like BISTRO and Papu Panda so you can get the best taste of Oswiecim while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Concentration camp memorial site
Historical place
The Memorial and Museum Auschwitz I, located in Oswiecim, is a solemn site that encompasses the preserved areas of the main camp Auschwitz and Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Visitors can explore original and reconstructed structures such as railway sidings, gas chambers, prisoners' barracks, and fences. The museum section houses historical exhibits including photographs, documents, prisoners' clothing, and personal belongings.
We wont say to much on this as everyone will take from it some sort of memory although it is a very harrowing tour , i have added a few photos all in black and white as i think it helps tell and spread the whole story of what happened here , i deliberatly wanted to show the sign of the gate from inside the camp rather than the usual outside looking in photos to try and let us feel the atmosphere from behind the fence

Amazingly preserved historical site the top crimes against humanity. Only fault is the inability to pre-book visit times with guides or online. We had to book a bus ride from Krakow at 5am, to get at gates for 6:30am opening. Wait in rain for ticket office to open at 7:30am to book our guide time of 8:30am. Some in group had to wait for 9:30am guided tour. 100s of visitors waiting for tickets in the rain.

I guess if your in this visiting this area of Poland it's worth the visit. Growing up and hearing, seeing, reading about the atrocities that took place, the scale of events it is saddening to say the least. Early August visit, worth booking your tour otherwise expect to queue. Worth having a tour guide as they explain everything as you go along the route.
Mad N — Google review
Our whole weekend away and experience of visiting Auschwitz was overcast by the lack of organisation here. Had to queue from 4am till 8 to get tickets, and had to take a Polish guide as the next English speaking guide group wasn't until 3pm. When you do eventually get in, it's just chaos. Thousands of people just trying to get round.Tour guides trying to get groups in to buildings that were already overcrowded. What should have been a day to reflect on what happened here, turned in mayhem. Walked away disappointed and also half ashamed that we couldn't feel the ambience of the place. I think maybe weekday visiting may be better.
Benn L — Google review
It's THE most humbling experience for me as far as what atrocities humans can do to humans. Also wanted my son to witness to what extent wars bring hell. 12 of us were on the group tour, two stopped halfway because it was too much to take. And I observed this in other groups as well. The somberness of displays and the narration by the finest guides makes you almost relieve the experience, often suppressing tears and sometimes getting goosebumps out of eeriness. Like Hiroshima, it's a visit of a lifetime, definitely will shake you to the core.
Subh C — Google review
Eternal rest grant unto them o Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon them . May their soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen".
DECLAN G — Google review
A truly moving experience. We were first-time visitors today and were taken aback by the scale and size of the site. The suffering that took place is unimaginable. The site has been preserved superbly, and the exhibits presented tastefully and respectfully. There are places where you can not take pictures, and these are pointed out to you by your guide. Auschwicz 1 has no canteen or restaurant but has vending machines to get snacks. Birkenau has a restaurant, but we didn't visit that. I think this site is somewhere you must visit in your lifetime to honour the people who suffered and died there. Well worth a visit.
Darren B — Google review
If you are into your history. Then this is for you. I can not really disturb how it makes you feel. Or how to explain when I get asked what it is like? However I can tell you. You need to book a tour, which takes about 3 to 4 hours. Take ID with you. It cost about £25.00 pp You get to see both camps. It's about a 1.5-mile walk from the train station,

Concentration camp memorial site

Historical place museum
The Memorial and Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau is a former concentration camp in southwest Poland that serves as a site of mass atrocity, Holocaust remembrance, and education. It is a significant tourist attraction and offers guided educational tours to provide visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the tragic history within its walls. The museum is an important destination for millions of tourists visiting Krakow and stands as a remnant of one of the most horrific regimes in human history.
It's worth going here to get some understanding of the scale and suffering that Jews and others had handed out by the Nazis during their time in power. Walking around the camp just shows what man can do to fellow man. The suffering and death on an industrial scale. The museum does well to preserve the past so we don't forget. There is a lot of walking involved so plan ahead especially if you take a guided tour as they move quickly but do give you lots of information about the camp and the people who went through the gates, many for the last time.
Chris M — Google review
Was a somber experience being in a place of death and torture, especially for my family members who endured this egregiously harsh and inhumane reality during WWII. We were never told to purchase tickets in advance so the museum was booked solid when we drove 3.5 hours from Warsaw to visit. The new Israeli owners, as crazy as it seems, have made it more difficult to gain entry with a walk in. We are able to observe the outskirts which was just as surreal and contained some valuable informative sights to see.
J. C — Google review
Incredibly somber and emotional experience. Seeing the scale of what happened here is overwhelming. We visited on a nice sunny day, but I couldn’t help but feel what the conditions must have felt like for those held within the camp during the harsh polish winters. A must see for anyone to remind us of what happened and try to ensure it can never happen again.
S W — Google review
A huge museum, which is being restored to this day and is still being preserved. Book the tour in advance because you can get alone and for free only after 15:00. We got a very nice girl guide, it was very interesting and pleasant to listen to. We visited both camps, the total tour took about 4 hours. This place is very atmospheric, creepy. It is obligatory for everyone to visit, you need to know and not forget the history so that there are no more such things.
Vjatseslav L — Google review
Probably one of the most badly organised tourist destinations in the world ! Always wanted to visit but was very disappointed, the complete cluster fxxk of the main entry, the inability to secure private tickets in advance via a official site, this resulted in almost 45 min to wait in a outdoor line until we could get to the ticket office and then another 2 hour wait until our time slot to actually get through the gate. I'd gladly pay €5-10 for advance tickets if I could get a guaranteed time to get in when I arrive. Once in there was no real flow or direction of what to see or what order to see it in. The official map was about as much use as sand in a desert, honestly a 5 year old could have drawn a better plan. Inside large tour groups dominated all the various things to see and we were often barged out of the way or unable to pass them while they blocked doors or things to see. My impression of the place has been ruined by visiting it and then when coming out, they don't even have clear signage where to get public transport back or a covered bus stop. The urban planner / architect who designed the new entrance and coach part obviously never tried visiting as a tourist.
Brenden B — Google review
This is a very sad experience. But I do recommend everyone to visit once in a lifetime. I learnt about it in a history lesson, but seeing it for real was just something else. The scale of it is just mad. There was 2 camps, second camp had more than 300 buildings. They were killing almost 5k people a day, in a gas chamber they fit 700 people at a time 😮 Its just crazy to see all the shoes of people who died there. And crazy to see the gas chamber. We all need to see the scale of it and learn from it so the history wont repeat itself... In the second camp, last building we entered was the barrack of ill women, it was called the death barrack, all of them were ill or unable to work, they were getting no food or water and if the barrack was full they were made to stay outside in a yard and wait to be taken to the gas chamber. Most of them died there in a barrack. It's so cruel. The free car park not in use. All car parks around is approx 30zloty. There is massive queue to get it, takes forever due to amount of people visiting. To get in need to go thru security like in the airport. Then there is audio tour. Our guide was not great, was hard to hear her as she didnt hold microphone properly. Was way too many people and very long backlog so we skipped quite few barracks. Once we got to second camp by bus our tour guide didnt wait for everyone so we got lost. Not very well organised tbh. After 1pm most days can visit camps without tour guides and it is free. This place would give chills to everyone.

Powerful to say the least! This was part of my bucket list of places to visit and WOW it did not disappoint. Moving does not do this place justice, understanding what the Jews, gypsies and other minorities went through during the Second World War, you can watch as many documentaries as you like but actually walking in their footsteps really does bring it home…..Unforgettable

Auschwitz II Historical Gate

4.8
(9530)
Historical landmark
Auschwitz II Historical Gate, also known as Auschwitz-Birkenau, was a railway terminus used during the Holocaust. The site now serves as an information center and bookshop on Auschwitz history. This subsidiary camp was constructed with larger gas chambers and crematoria where the Nazis used Zyklon-B pesticide to exterminate prisoners. Today, it is a museum housing exhibitions with over 80,000 artifacts from the Holocaust.
It is a existence place to go and visit, and you cab walk around most of the camp, it has singens that gives you some information and just being their give you a atmosphere, I would highly recommend buying your ticket early so you don't have to stand inn line to get inn, and if you want to learn more a guid is recommend but not necessarily.

I am a little lost as this place is where soo many people were killed. It is so sad at the depravity and the evil used to create a place of death. Never forget what happened here for those people who try to justify their warped political views. It is a place of rememberance to those who died and remenbered for their suffering and death.
Coch H — Google review
Very humbling experience. Would highly recommend an early tour with a guide as the information is well delivered, high the pace is rapid, especially for the second part. Note, there are no toilets in the second part, so make sure you go before. Won't spoil what you will see and be told, however you will probably learn a few things that will surprise and shock you, and some sights can be quite emotional. That is however the best reason to go, as some lessons books can't teach as well as actual experience.

Visiting the gate of Auschwitz I—the infamous “Arbeit Macht Frei” sign—is a powerful, emotionally heavy experience. This place is not a typical tourist attraction; it’s a solemn site of remembrance and reflection. Standing before the gate, you’re confronted with the grim reality of what took place here during the Holocaust. This visit is not about sightseeing—it's about honoring the memory of the victims and learning from one of the darkest chapters in human history. Prepare for a deeply moving and sobering journey that stays with you long after you leave. 📸 Photos are allowed but should be taken with sensitivity.
Sukriti S — Google review

Run very poorly. People lining up at 2:30 AM for 7:30 AM tour. The people that work there are very nice but the way they have it organized is very poor. Very important event Centre deserves to have more structure.
Dean E — Google review
Very haunting and significant experience. We got the 16.30 'free' slot for individuals. Just to say if you go for this slot you either have to rush to finish both camps or do 2 separate visits 1 day apart. Make sure you realise that the shuttle between the two is outside the exit for Auschwitz I camp.
Bijaya C — Google review
We have all heard at least once, if not watched a movie or read about events from that period that left an impression. We need as many people as possible to come and see the place. See, read, inhale and exhale. The horrors that were created there must not be allowed to happen again.

The Memorial and Museum Auschwitz II-Birkenau is a solemn site that serves as a tribute to the 1.1 million people who perished in this Nazi concentration and extermination camp during World War II. The camp, which operated from 1942, saw the tragic deaths of European Jews from various countries, as well as prisoners of other nationalities and Soviet prisoners of war. Despite the destruction, the museum houses an extensive collection of original documents related to the camp's history.
One of the most harrowing experiences of my life. It is incredulous that that these rhings happened. I was part of a group and the guide's knowledge was second to none. It was almost as if he had been there himself.
Mark L — Google review
Very depressing place and the history of what happened. It is a must-see, however, I wish they showed more on how people were treated etc. A lot of the visit is looking at empty rooms etc. I'm not asking for decorations etc. But I would like to see some more gutting truth. Its a raw experience but I feel like it was underwhelming for what happened there.
Mateusz C — Google review
Incredible that we are able to visit this. The $38 ticket price for a tour system that's far too crowded & confusing to navigate, with a total of 5 hours wait in queue & for tour time makes this an endurance challenge. The burn out of all that & the relative sanitization removed the emotion one might experience. The guide was aloof & robotic. Given that, why not just have headsets with the many languages allowing people in without so much waiting.
Nancy H — Google review
Hard to post a positive, even more taking photos whilst here.. ❓ An emotionally draining experience, but something you gotta do whilst in Poland 🇵🇱. Would highly recommend doing it on your own as time ISN'T on your side if you go with a tour...
Barney — Google review
Really what can be said about this historically tragic place that hasn't already been said. The only thing I can add is we arrived late in the day when it was getting dark and much of the tour was in the dark. In most places that would be a disadvantage. But here it didnt matter. The images are already well known. The presence of the place can only be experienced. It doesnt matter if it is dark. The horror remains. Everyone should visit once.
Colm F — Google review
All I can say is. I was overwhelmed. Having seen many documentaries over the years . Nothing touches you more than a local lady guiding your tour and telling you with heart felt sincerity the life story of her own home town. It was amazing but harrowing at the same time. Book for an early tour and be ready for a 530am start time. Later slots are always more crowded and there is not a lot of time betweek coach/toilet breaks and you have to keep up the pave a little. But extremely moving in the end. You must experience this fir yourselves.
Peter B — Google review
Sombre experience but told greatly through amazing guides. A piece of history I hope the world never repeats!! A must to keep the memory of all those that perished alive.
Andrew G — Google review
We had booked through hello crackow. 39 people on the bus. Collected on time. Our collection was 11.30am. When we got there we had a 10 minute break to go to toilet. We were given our tickets. You must have ID on you to match name on the tickets. Then go through security. Met our guide and off we went. It was very interesting and I'm delighted I went. We bought lunch boxes from them around €7, very good value, juice and water, large roll, biscuit, chocolate bar, apple and banana. We ate after auschwitz on the bus heading to next camp. We had same guide here. Alot of walking and standing around..

BISTRO Restaurant "Student CooKING" offers a fantastic dining experience with delicious and affordable food. The friendly staff adds to the enjoyable atmosphere, making it a great choice compared to nearby expensive restaurants. Visitors can savor dishes like pierogi and dumplings, along with other options such as chicken breast in garlic marinade and various soups. This restaurant is highly recommended for its tasty meals and welcoming service.

Let me start by saying we arrived at 1800 not knowing they close an hour later. We ordered our food and drinks which arrived promptly. The staff was super friendly and spoke english well. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was very relaxing and inviting. I recommend trying the potato pancakes Hungarian style.

We had left a tour to catch a train later in the day and found this on the side of the road. It was afternoon and not a regular meal time, but the girl spoke good English and was very kind to us. The food was pretty good, but more so the hospitality to weary travelers (we were heavily laden with large backpacks) and allowed us to use their internet and sit as long as we needed. There was a party an hour after we arrived, but we were outside and they never rushed us. That being said, it was more of a very welcome rest stop than it was a quick meal for us.

It was nice in the restaurant but what's the point if food was worming up by micro?! Chiken soup WITHOUT chiken! Potatoes cake was totally destroyed by some strange sauce. And once again food was heated in the microwave. I actually heard "pip pip piip" and seconds after got my food.

Restauracja NaNovo is a fantastic restaurant that offers a great dining experience. Visitors have praised the friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and delicious food. Many recommend trying the Polish sour soup and meat pierogis. It's an ideal place to unwind after visiting Auschwitz Camp, with its tasty and fresh dishes. Most of all, I want to highlight the beautiful, friendly waitresses, for whom there are no language barriers)). But this is a restaurant... so yes, here you can satisfy different tastes. Meat, fish, salad, soup or children's menu - everything is delicious and, in my opinion, large portions. Small but spacious parking, even for a bus. A small minus for me was the mixed smells of food, but even from the parking lot this smell draws you in))))

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a charming restaurant located about a 12-minute walk from Auschwitz Museum. The atmosphere was delightful, with a warm and inviting ambiance that made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal. We ordered the tagliatelle with chicken, and it was simply delicious! The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the pasta was cooked to perfection. It was evident that the ingredients were fresh and of high quality. Additionally, the restaurant offers a complimentary shuttle service between the restaurant and Auschwitz, which is a great convenience for visitors. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience, and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.

Local restaurant with traditional foods. You pay depending on the weight of your plate. Good price and i recommend rolls with a side dish. Be aware that the nice ladies don't speak english but you can manage with body language.

I’d like to eat at local restaurants like here. The staffs are smiling and good to customers!! They don’t speak English but they tried to communicate by body language with me. I appreciate it!! You can pay by your credit cards!!

Quick. Easy. Delicious. No frills at all. Like a warm hug from a Polish mum. Buffet / canteen style where you pick what you want and then pay by weight. For 2 people we spent 47 zl (at the time of writing this review about £8-9).

Ate here on April 26. Small delicatessen of an elderly lady and a woman (maybe her daughter) in front of the train station. The dishes are made with care, authenticity, love and tradition. The prices, which are based on weight, are completely honest. The best meal I have had here in Poland. I took the liberty of thanking the two women for the authenticity and flavors of their dishes, thanks to Google Translate. Thanks again!

I got mix of vegetables, meat balls and sauce and everything tasted good. However, both me and my partner felt not so well after this dinner.

When visiting Auschwitch this restaurant is a must visit. It’s opposite of the railways station and on the way to the monument. This small restaurant offers a taste of Poland. They offer whole or half chicken from the grill and a buffet with all kinds of dishes to try. The buffet plate will be measured which costed me in total less then 5 euro. The ladies behind the counter do not speak English but with some hand gestures it was easy to communicate. And the good news is: it was possible to pay with card! To make this experience complete I could enjoy the sunset on their little terrace while waiting for the train. Thanks ladies!! 🙏🏼

Day 2

Center of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Oswiecim Cultural Center, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Cafe Bergson. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

When visiting Krakow, a trip to Oswiecim is highly recommended to explore the Auschwitz Birkenau Memorial and Museum. This site holds significant historical importance as it was the largest center for mass extermination of European Jews during World War II. The museum, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, serves as a powerful symbol of war, terror, and genocide. Originally a Polish army barracks, it was converted into a concentration camp by Nazi Germans in 1940.
A great House of Culture with a very large cafe and many other attractions. Their main theater stage is quite large and offers a variety of performances including work by yours truly. There is also a cinema.

It was quite Informational, was there with my School and its also quite moving. Had massive respect when I found people I was related to in the book of the dead. 20/10 would recommend that people go there to get a deeper and farther perspective and knowledge of what happend.

Love this place, played there some pieces. But it's not international which is a pity cuz it's always great to go to the local cinema and have subtitles. Nice restaurant inside, good choice for movies not only mainstream and they have theatre plays from London and you can watch them in English! Pass by if you need some art! But building itself needs some refreshing.

Park Family Fun is a fantastic family-friendly park offering playgrounds, picnic areas, and walking trails. It's an ideal spot for a relaxing day out with children, providing entertainment for kids aged 0-10. The park features long slides, ball pits, and ample space for children to run and play freely. Visitors appreciate the clean and tidy environment as well as the reasonable prices. Additionally, it's noted as a great option for indoor activities on rainy days.
Nice place to play with your kids and get some fun!!

Great place! I loved the location and easy access to the nearby culture. I did have some concerns. The showers were broken and only seems to spew out a green mist. Not what I was looking for after a tiring day. Now when it came to food there seemed at first to be a shortage, but i noticed in the back plenty of food. When I confronted a cook about it, he told me to go back to my hut, whatever that means. So I am hungry and feel gross and I didn't even feel like I was treated like human. Not the culture I expected from any establishment in Auschwitz Poland.

Synagogue
The Jewish Museum and Synagogue in Oswiecim, Poland, are located near the Town Castle and the Museum of the Town. The Memorial Auschwitz-Birkenau is just 3.5 km away, while Energylandia, Poland's largest amusement park, is situated 16 km away. Visitors can take guided tours of the museum and synagogue to learn about Oswiecim before WWII and commemorate the town's community through documents, photos, and archive objects that survived WW2 and the Holocaust.
After having spent the day before in two of the Auschwitz camps, this museum was much needed. We witnessed all the atrocities committed by the Nazis at these camps and the horrifying numbers of people killed there. However, this museum helped to break down these numbers and preserve the memory of those who lost their lives due to Nazism. It also helps visitors understand the town of Oswiecim. I think a lot of tour groups rush in to see Auschwitz, rush out and never spend sufficient time in Oswiecim, but I think it is a must. We had read that the museum was small, but in fact we ended up staying for nearly two hours. We spent quite a bit of time looking at photos and reading about various people's lives. I particularly found the video at the entrance quite interesting about pre-war Poland. What a great addition to the museum! We also liked that we could access more information from our phones about the different displays. It is really an excellent museum and run by lovely and helpful personnel who also work at the cafe (which is also excellent!). Also recommended is to spend some time outside the museum in the little square, which I believe was also the site of the deportations. There is a board with short cartoon stories about certain people you will read about at the museum. The story about Franciszka Henryka was simply devastating and the way it was presented in the cartoon was so, so sad. (I was informed by one of the employees at the cafe that there is only one 'stumbling stone' in Oswiecim, and it is to commemorate the tragically short life of Franciszka.) May that young child rest in eternal peace now that she has finally been reunited with her parents.

We had a very peaceful and pleasant time exploring the small but informative Jewish museum. After the 1000s at Auschwitz, this was very peaceful and reflective. In fact we were the only ones there. Highly recommended to have another view.

This museum was an absolute delight to visit. What really stood out, was the staff—friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about their work. They made the experience even more enjoyable with their helpful insights and warm hospitality. The exhibit left a mark on me with its images or Jewish heritage and struggle and you could see through the organization this museum is passionate in educating its visitors. I definitely wish to return

A must-visit when in Oświęcim or Auschwitz. The staff – likely volunteers – are kind, helpful, and well-informed about the museum and its history. What makes this place especially moving are the personal stories connected to the photos and artifacts. It's not just history – it's human tragedy, respectfully presented. The museum’s free app, Oshpitzin, is excellent. You can download it from Google Play or the Apple App Store. It offers both insights into the Jewish history of Oświęcim and a virtual city tour. Everything is thoughtfully curated – simple, but powerful. Highly recommended: visit the museum and use the app, whether before, during, or after your stay.

As someone whose grandfather was born in Oswiecim, I thought they did a really great job in preserving this community’s memory and honoring it. I’d recommend, if you can, to ask for the keys to the cemetery and go visit there as well, also a very powerful experience

I visited the museum and synagogue of Oświęcim right after visiting Auschwitz. I received a guided tour by a museum employee name Lily who was knowledgable and adorable. Lily walked us through the different exhibitions and helped bring back to life the Oświęcim before WWII. The visit in the museum and synagogue was educating and even uplifting, in a sense that while the residents of Oświęcim may be gone, the Jews and the people of Israel and the spirit is still alive. Am Israel Chai!

Very interesting museum and a lovely tour done by a German Social Volunteer. English, German and Polish tours possible. Visit to the Old Synagogue is also nice and Jewish groups are able to hold a prayer with the old Thora. Beautiful, even though equipped with replicas. Very well worth a visit but don't expect much information on World War II. It's about Jewish life in the city.

A fitting end to a day after visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau, was to visit this small simple carefully curated museum. It is in the Old Synagogue of Oswiecim and it contextualises what was once a thriving Jewish community with artefacts, personal stories and photographs. A wonderful calming visit with a good instruction and welcome from Dr Artur Szyndler, a historian and curator. Delicious bagels in the small cafe helped to provide some sustenance on a long hot and moving evocative day.

This is a wonderful place to stop when visiting Oświęcim or Auschwitz. The staff are very friendly, helpful, and a pleasure to talk to. They’re also knowledgeable about the town and happy to share tips on local attractions and things to do in the area. We had a Chai Latte, which was excellent — nicely prepared and full of flavor. The atmosphere was relaxed, making it a great spot to unwind. We spent some time here after visiting the Muzeum Żydowskie i Synagoga Auschwitz next door, which is also very informative and absolutely worth seeing. An amazing place to have a coffee and take a break. The place is very tolerant, progressive and international. The nice barista speaks great english and serves everything with a smile. The large cappuccino costs 14zl and is the best I have ever tasted, even better than the one in Oslo and that is a goddamn high bar. You can also charge your phone or sit in the calm garden surrounded by flowering elderberry bushes. All in all a must see for any leftist tending person who comes by Oswiecim!

Great place for traditional Polish dinner after long day in Aushwitz Museum. Delicious, not expensive meals, rich menu, lovely service, very clean and spacious venue with hint of 80ies design. We came here with our Australian crew and I would strongly recommend it for all international visitors to taste Polish hospitality.

Claims to have a menu offer for 25 sloty, with a main dish, a sald and a another side dish. We went to order from said menu and most of our dishes didn't get neither salad nor side dish because "it didn't go well with the main dish" and we would have had to pay an extra 6 sloty for each side if we wanted them, so 35. The main dish ended up 23 sloty since we didn't get them, which it's okay, but I was looking for a full menu and would have went elsewhere if I knew. So if you come for the same offer make sure to order something that they deem appropriate

(Translated by Google) It is a type of place typical of the Soviet period, where you can order food at a low price until around 5pm, a cross between a popular canteen, a grocery store and a trattoria. This bar specifically is a true Mleczny frequented only by locals (if you don't speak Polish, you can make yourself understood with gestures - the menu posted on the wall must be translated with Google Translate), the breaded cutlet with potatoes is excellent. The great classics of popular Polish cuisine are also available. (Translated by Google) The place has a family atmosphere, like at Grandma's. The saleswoman was very kind and helpful in choosing the food. Unfortunately, that's where it ends; the food is quite expensive for the portions we get. My friend got two scoops of potatoes!! They were ground the size of ping-pong balls, okay, maybe two. Portions were for a small child, not for an adult woman. The pancake I got had almost no chocolate and was as small as the ground one. The broth tasted like a Chinese soup you can buy at Biedronka for 1.50. The compote cost a whopping 4 złoty!! and it was tiny. Unfortunately, we won't be back; there are much better milk bars in the area. The food was quite good (a 5/10), but not for the price. No compliments, but my compliments to the saleswoman. Mielone były w wielkości kulki do pin ponga, no dobra może dwie kulki.

(Translated by Google) My choice was the set of the day. I chose pork chop with potatoes and salad, and cucumber soup. Additionally, I took pancakes with cheese. The whole thing cost PLN 30. All dishes are prepared on a regular basis. After a while, I received hot cucumber soup. The soup is very hearty, the portion is large, although a bit too little spiced for me. Then I received pork chop. The cutlet is medium-sized, thick and well-done. It felt like it had just been taken out of the pan. Delicious potatoes, tasty salad. Then I moved on to the pancakes. A slight disappointment here, because I thought they would be filled with cottage cheese, but what I found there was vanilla cheese with a rather liquid consistency. This does not change the fact that the dish was very good. I went for dinner around 2 p.m. There was a lot of traffic in the place at that time, it was difficult to find a free place. The interior is quite ascetic, you can feel that it is a place with traditions. The staff serves meals very efficiently, so you don't have to wait long. It is possible to pay by card. I highly recommend it, I will definitely come back here.

History Museums
Muzeum Zamek w Oświęcimiu is a hilltop medieval castle museum that showcases local Catholic and Jewish artifacts, as well as archaeological finds. Visitors can take a 25-minute walk to reach the museum or use the town's urban bus line, with a stop conveniently located near the railway station. The exhibitions offer insight into the town's history beyond its tragic past, and visitors appreciate the clean and friendly atmosphere.
Interesting, English guide available. The signs in the museum are mostly only in Polish, the guide willingly translated everything.

Nice piece of history. Unfortunately the writing is only in polish. But I heard there is possible to reserve an English guide 🤷🏻‍♀️. The main building is nice and full of historical information and items. The staff is also very friendly and nice, one of them tried to translate some of the things so we could understand better(he was not a guide). The tower has a nice view and many, many stairs.
Markéta M — Google review
Small but nice castle. The tower had a good view of the town. The exhibits are mostly in Polish but still interesting. They've taken a lot of care with what they chose to include. There is a small exhibit about early trench warfare where they have turned a room into a series of trenches with wooden walls. It's small so is only takes about half an hour. We went out of season and they seemed outright surprised to see us. Lights had to be turned on for us to go up the tower as no one else had been in there. Overall an underappreciated site but still enjoyable and worth the visit.

The museum talks about the history of Oświęcim, which is quite interesting but not really my cup of tea. You don't need a guide since everything is pretty self explained.

A beautiful place for excellent Vodka and liqueur. Modern design with a twist that respects the tradition of making good alcohol.
Reshef Y — Google review
(Translated by Google) I definitely recommend it to those who are undecided and want to learn more about vodka. In 1992, a bricked-up basement was found in the tenement house and there were many treasures there, which can now be seen in the museum. There is the history of the plant, but also a lot of historic competition glass. Some will be surprised that the largest pre-war distilleries were Jewish. You can find out what period the first mentions of vodka come from :-) The tour costs PLN 19, including the tasting of 3x25ml of local production. The tour takes place with an audio guide along a row of boards and showcases. There is no boredom, because there are letters, photos, posters, postcards, construction plans, documents from 100 years ago and several dozen antique bottles. There is also the history of the owners. There are also a lot of craft vodkas and liqueurs from other local craftsmen that you won't find in stores! There is distillate from tomato, cucumber, goat whey, elderberry and standard: pure vodka or liqueurs :-) (Original) Niezdecydowanym, którzy chcą się dowiedzieć czegoś więcej o wódce stanowczo polecam.

(Translated by Google) A wonderful place full of passion and great spirits from its own distillery. Brilliant cherry vodka - after trying it, you won't want to go back to mass-produced supermarkets. And the history of this brand of alcohol dates back to 1804... What else apart from great decor, a mini museum of alcohol and great products? Very friendly service, excellent Noszak beer from the Cieszyn brewery. And great intimate live performances. Still not enough? There is a terrace on the roof with a view of the castle and Soła. (Original) Wspaniałe miejsce pełne pasji i świetnych alkoholi z własnej gorzelni. No i wspaniałe kameralne występy na żywo. Jeszcze mało? To na dachu znajduje się taras z widokiem na zamek i Sołę.

The Great Synagogue Memorial Park in Oświęcim

Memorial park
The Great Synagogue Memorial Park in Oświęcim is a significant site that holds the history of Jews and the city. It features a 3D model of the synagogue in augmented reality, allowing visitors to experience its authentic location or by scanning a QR code. The park is described as modern, nature-friendly, and important for understanding the city's past.

Ewa K — Google review
A beautiful way of remembering the destroyed synagogue. A minimalist, green memorial. A must when visiting the Jewish Museum&Synagogue in town and the site of Auschwitz.
Tomasz K — Google review
(Translated by Google) The park commemorates the history of the synagogue destroyed eighty years ago. The synagogue in Oświęcim was built in 1863-1873 on the site of an older synagogue. The temple was burned by the Nazis on the night of November 29-30, 1939. In order to commemorate the temple, the park was rebuilt. Gray sandstone slabs were placed in the central part. There are a total of 40 of them, and they lead to individual elements of the park - an exhibition presenting the history of the synagogue, a "well" with a historical floor, a water pool, benches made of Corten sheet metal and a chandelier, which is a copy of an artifact found in this place during archaeological works. Unfortunately, the copy of the chandelier was destroyed during a storm. The park won in the category awarding the best public space among greenery.

Restauracja na Rynku offers a charming dining experience in an intimate city square where locals mingle and kids play. The restaurant is not fancy, but that's part of its charm. Visitors praise the delicious pierogi, especially the spinach and apple-cinnamon varieties. The serving sizes are generous, and the prices are reasonable. Guests also appreciate the friendly staff who are helpful with menu navigation and speak good English.
Nice place right on the main square in Oświęcim. On the staff's recommendation, we tried the Góralski placek ziemniaczany—a traditional potato pancake — and it was excellent. Generous portions, rich flavors, and a cozy atmosphere. Friendly service and fair prices make it a great spot for a local meal.

This Restaurant was recommended to us by the hotel staff. We walked by at once without even seeing it, but upon finding it, we were pleased to see that free tables. So no reservation was necessary. There were tourists in the restaurant, but the restaurant did not have tourist prices. The food was very good, the staff was very welcoming, and the prices were reasonable. Note: sometimes they close the kitchen down early, so I suggest arriving before 7 PM.

Came in for a lunch whilst the girlfriend is visiting family in Poland. The food was so tasty and had plenty of traditional polish dishes and pizza on offer. It was 100% worth the wait for the food! We purchased two starters and two mains additionally three drinks between the two of us. The service was great as well, checking we were happy with the meals and if we needed anything to let them know. I would 100% recommended this restaurant if you are visiting the town.

This is a nice place with very welcoming and smiling staff! There is a large menu to choose from. All the dishes that we tried (we had a large group of people) were good! I didn’t take photos of everything, we took soups, salads, dumplings, cheese, meat, pizza, etc. Waiting was a bit long though. But rather than that, the meal was good.

After visiting a well-known nearby museum I stopped here based on the reviews and close walking distance proximity to my hotel. The server was able to speak phenomenal English which was a huge help with my broken Polish. As seen in my photo, they have an English menu! The service was fast and the food was well priced, very well portioned, and delicious. If you’re looking for authentic Eastern European cuisine for a fair price, this is the place to go!

La Rossa Restauracja & Sale Weselne is a perfect spot for a family gathering or a satisfying meal in an enticing setting. It's an ideal place for those looking to relax in the center of Oswiecim with delicious coffee and pastries, as well as those craving a tasty salad. And what about those yearning for a hearty meal? La Rossa is definitely the best restaurant in town, offering fantastic food, top-notch service, and an exceptional atmosphere.
On the way to our three day bike trip, we stopped by this restaurant for lunch. The very first thing that caught my eye was the nice cool atmosphere inside, when it's +35 outside, good cooling is the first thing you appreciate. There was a wedding on the second floor of the place, despite this the waitress quickly took the order and quickly gave everything out. Service is pleasant, the design of the restaurant is beautiful, a large number of green plants inside gives its atmosphere. Was the food tasty? Of course! Which is important for me personally, the coffee was great too. We had a hearty meal and went on with our journey. Thank you for the delicious food! Best wishes from Poznan.

Excellent if somewhat slow service, our pork chop and Thai soup were delicious. Bone in fried pork chop was yummy. This place is good for a quick bite between tours of Birkenau and Auschwitz, just avoid ordering pizza as that takes too much time for them, being made from scratch.

The food was flavorful and creatively prepared, offering combinations that were unique and intriguing. That didn’t seem to be traditional tastes of the dishes though ;) We had the duck and beef roll btw. Hmmm, the portion sizes could have been more generous :) While the staff was polite, a warmer and more welcoming approach would have made the experience even better. Its okay if you didn’t try the coffee ;)

Only came here for a takeaway drink. Small cappuccino and one iced matcha latte which cost a total of 32zl. Pretty good price these days. The drinks were quite good too. Also seems like a nice place for a little break with friendly service.

I am sorry but this place is HIGHLY overrated... 3 stars ONLY because of great pizza and nice approach of waiters, but everything else was BAD. They billed us for tap water, which we asked to the wine, (wine was from a tetrapack for overpriced 15eur in Italian restaurant?! Really?). For this price I had at many places in Poland including Warsaw whole bottle of much higher quality wine multiple times. The fruit cake was probably a cheesecake from Lidl with some fruits. I am quite disappointed...for this price I expected much more...
Marek S — Google review
Food was good, staff was very friendly. Nothing to say about that. There is one real important thing that disturbed us, the acoustic is horrible. The echo makes you just want to leave the restaurant as soon as there are too many tables occupied inside. They should invest in these phonic panels and hang on the ceiling. I speak by experience and this help enormously. It is really unpleasant to sit inside even though the style and decorating is ok. Please consider it! You can also make them yourself as these can be quite expensive, and again I speak by experience. Also, the knifes weren't sharp enough to cut through our pizzas from my daughter and me. Either replace them or sharpen them. Apart from this, it's a good restaurant.
M4X — Google review
Great little restaurant! We were offered recommendations from Justine our lovely waitress. Chicken salad for me and a pizza for my husband. Pizza was piping hot and and my salad was dressed in the most delicious dressing. I would thoroughly recommend this little gem of a restaurant. Great service all round

Extended stay hotel
Hotel Olecki is a functional accommodation option in Oswiecim, offering simple rooms and suites. The hotel features a restaurant and bar, complimentary Wi-Fi, and free valet parking. It's conveniently located within walking distance of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, making it an ideal choice for those interested in sightseeing. Guests have praised the kindness and professionalism of the staff, with particular appreciation for their assistance during times of need.
I recently stayed at Hotel Olecki and was absolutely amazed and touched by the kindness and professionalism of the staff. All three receptionists were outstanding, but one in particular went above and beyond. When I sought help at night because my husband started to feel sick, this wonderful receptionist provided lemon, tea, and tissues, showing such a great act of kindness that I'll never forget. The room was clean, spacious, and thoughtfully provided with free bottles of water for all of us. The breakfast was excellent, offering a wide variety of choices, and the highlight was definitely the crepes—what a treat! Additionally, the hotel's location is very convenient, being close to Auschwitz, and there's a bus stop right in front of the hotel, making transportation easy. Overall, my stay at Hotel Olecki was exceptional, thanks to the incredible staff and the comfort of the amenities. Highly recommended!

Room as described, but the AC unit was broken. The desk clerk gave us a fan. Curtain also fell off the wall. (ROom 6). Excellent location and excellent breakfast. The cost was fair...but not excellent.

Clean, nice rooms, no frills. Good breakfast. Excellent location. Lack of blinding curtains means you'll probably not need a alarm clock as you due to the bright light getting in through the thin curtains may wake you up at sunrise.

The Remembrance Museum of Land of Oświęcim Residents

4.5
(198)
Museum
The Remembrance Museum of Land of Oświęcim Residents is dedicated to preserving objects and artifacts related to the former camp. Visitors can support the conservation efforts and view documentaries on Auschwitz subcamps with subtitles in multiple languages. The museum is a place for paying respects, with guides who sensitively share stories. It's recommended to visit both museums, as each offers a different experience - Auschwitz provides a comprehensive narrative, while Birkenau stands as a larger relic of the past.
Everyone should visit this place to pay their respect, terrible what happened there. The museum has been done very respectfully. The guides did a fantastic job of telling the stories. I would recommend doing both museums, auswitchz is more like a museum where you get the story, birkenau is significantly bigger and more of a relic that has been left.
Matthew B — Google review
Relatively new museum providing information about the time prior, during and after the war in the Oswiecim region. Lots of interactive information and audio tours available. Highly recommended. You can park in front of the museum.
Matthias B — Google review
Excellent content, especially the historical videos with witness testimonials. A very necessary backstory to the town of Oswiecim and the thriving centre of Polish-Jewish co-existence it one was and how it was eviscerated by the German Nazi occupation.
EoinCathal K — Google review
A lovely place to visit, mainly listening to survivors watching them on screens tell their story.
Wendy R — Google review
Nazis were the strongest army ever. Took the world to stop them. Jews were just a stone on the road to victory
Elbo W — Google review
Rating does not matter for this place. The museum is very modest and has nurfed what really happened. There are various screens playing interviews and anecdotes before and after war. I would have added a stronger emotional appeal to do justice to the facts.
Mayank R — Google review
WARNING: DON'T GO THERE IF YOU DON'T HAVE A TICKET FROM A TOUR OPERATOR. you won't get in(except for a lucky few that queue at 7am for tickets left over from the operators. This site is completely hogged by them. This also applies to Birkenau (tickets are sold in conjunction with the museum) Which is a pity as the museum seems to be great and educational and the camp translated the horrible experience well. Also don't park anywhere else rather than the museum. You will have to take shuttles to the various sites(every 15 or 30 minutes).
Michael E — Google review
Highly recommended. A very delicate museum filled with lots of first-handed information. A full picture about the past of the residents in Auschwitz. Very meaningful and educational.

Centrum Obsługi Odwiedzających Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau

4.3

Museum
Centrum Obsługi Odwiedzających Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau, also known as the Visitor Service Center of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, provides comprehensive support for visitors. It offers door-to-door transport services and guided tours from Krakow to Auschwitz. The center ensures a seamless experience from start to finish, allowing visitors to pay their respects and remember the historical significance of the site.
A crucial place to visit to pay respect to those who suffered from the worst of humanity. A reminder to us all not to repeat the mistakes of the past. All life is precious.

Want to experience hell? The Auschwitz museum administration has got you covered. I can’t imagine a more incompetent and poorly organized visitor experience. This was, without exaggeration, the worst-managed museum I’ve ever been to. First, you stand in line for two hours outside — in the rain, cold, or blazing sun — just to print an already purchased online ticket by showing your passport. Then comes a second line for security, again about two hours. There, they check the exact same ticket and passport again. Why?! Why duplicate the same procedure? Why not just do it once or, better yet, let the guide hand out the tickets beforehand? And why do they check our passports? This is literally CRAZY!!! Then there’s airport-style security: metal detectors, bag scanners. What exactly are they looking for — terrorists? This is a museum, not a high-security zone. The entire process is inefficient, exhausting, and frankly insulting to visitors. In Birkenau, the guard barely glanced at the ticket. But at Auschwitz I, you’re treated like you’re trying to infiltrate a classified government facility. The infrastructure is a disaster: one tiny toilet for crowds of a thousand, a tiny cafeteria with a single checkout, and zero crowd management. People come here from all over the world, with reverence and reflection — and instead are met with chaos, frustration, and discomfort. It genuinely feels like the museum management has never gone through this process themselves. There is plenty of memory here, but absolutely no respect for the living.
Aly P — Google review
Eye opening. We all have seen documentaries about this place, but they don't really capture the weight and the size of the camps. Wear appropriate clothing. Comfortable shoes, the guided tour was something like 5-6 km and lots of standing. Leave kids at home/hotel if they're not really interested.
Erki E — Google review
I struggle to find words to describe what I saw or what I felt here.😞 It is hard to believe that mass killings were committed in such a scale and that the desdain for a fellow human could be such. The museum is perfectly well kept and the whole visit (including Birkenau camp) lasts for approximately three hours. It is a must visit to recall that this should never repeat ever again
Urban T — Google review
I had no reservation because my business trip was booked last minute. Went there the day before and one nice lady told me to get there early and i should be fine. Showed up at 6h30am and there was a small line for no reservations people. I was able to get an English guided tour for 9 am. If you like history and are not afraid to see and hear what happened there, I highly recommend it.
Remi J — Google review
This museum is an absolute disgrace. We traveled 500 km to learn about the extermination camps in Oświęcim, only to be denied entry due to "sold out tickets." We wanted to visit as individuals without a guide, but despite the camps being nearly empty and the parking lot half empty, they still sent us back to our home country! It’s clear they just want to sell group excursions for higher profits. It’s appalling that they are exploiting the tragedy that occurred here for money. They might as well build a McDonald's instead of preserving the historical houses in the camp. Avoid this place at all costs and visit another concentration camp where they treat the site, the victims, and the visitors with the respect they deserve, such as Terezin.
Luděk A — Google review
A terrible experience for visitors. Forced to turn up and queue for hours outside in the rain for a guide ticket which won't take place until 4hours after you collect it. We have had 8 hours of waiting, tired, cold and wet. There is a waiting room where rude staff Insist on people not falling asleep... They walk around prodding and shouting and people of nod off. Expensive food a drinks available for waiting people, of which there are hundreds in the same position as you. This feels like an emersive experience at a concentration camp. For some reason they ask for photo identification before entry. Seems over zealous. I came to pay respect to history here, but this place appears to be a cash cow and treats visitors terribly. I do not recommend visiting.
Liam J — Google review
Very enlightening and puts into reality everything we were taught in school about the holocaust. I have been to two things in my life that have left me in awe, the immensity of the Grand Canyon, and the horrors displayed at the Hiroshima museum. Now a third, the shocking reality of what a person is fully capable of on a mass scale. It is not possible to see the grounds in full in a single visit if you take the time to read all the information displays. Go early in the day and go on your own so you can read and fully understand what atrocities the people were put through. This is a solemn place and I personally feel that tour groups should not be allowed. They are loud and really detract from the inner thoughts all are unavoidably in. While there the most respectful people were the individuals who were there separate from the groups.

There are many options on the menu. The only place near the museum that seems decent quality. The place was clean and organized. Since it was around 4pm, we were happy to see lunch still being ordered. We ordered grilled chicken with potatoes and omelette with cheese and mushrooms. The food tasted basic; fairly tasty given the touristy nature of the area. Prices were reasonable for the location.

Bad food, rude service. The grilled salmon costed 54PLN with a tiny fillet salmon we've ever have in the restaurant. Chips tasted like were frozen and unfrozen several times. Cabbages had no taste at all, completely bland! And spaghetti bolognese was surprisingly sour. When serving the waitress put the dishes down on the table with loud noise and weird attitude as if we were there begging them for food. Save your money. Don't waste it at this place!
