Castles
The Rock of Cashel, also known as St. Patrick's Rock, is a captivating historic site in Ireland. Perched on a prominent green hill with limestone outcrops, it boasts ancient fortifications and medieval edifices including a 12th-century tower, a Gothic cathedral, and the finest 12th-century Romanesque chapel in Ireland. Once the seat of the Kings of Munster, this hilltop complex offers fantastic views over the Tipperary countryside.
We just walked around the place, we didn't ask for a tour guide, - but it should be noted that we weren't able to fully explore the entire place this way because there are parts (the chapel) that can only be entered with that tour guide. It's probably worth choosing if you don't mind the crowd, but the open-access part was still very beautiful. There is a small indoor exhibition (including a little cinema) which is also very useful because you can escape the rain here, since the ruin no longer really has a roof. There is an incredibly beautiful view from here.
Kitti L — Google review
Majestic ruins sitting high on the rocks with fantastic views all around. The ruins are beautiful, stone detailing is abundant through the site and the round tower is a true highlight. 8 euros to visit, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Does get quite busy in the afternoons!
Lewis G — Google review
Took my kids (8&12) who enjoyed the castle for 20 minutes or so. We didn't take the guided tour, just walked around. The cemetery was impressive to the kids, so was the kitchen display. I enjoyed it a lot! Worth the visit in my opinion. We walked around town afterwards, nice little place.
Ofer B — Google review
An absolute gem!!! No wait for early morning entry. Recommend the tour for more in depth history. Allow about 2 hours overall. Well maintained ruins and graveyard. A must see when in southern Ireland.
Holly S — Google review
Had a great time at the old castle. Paid a small fee to enter. Parking is at the bottom, small fee as well. Did not paid the extra for the guided tour, we were able to walk almost evyehere except the chapel. Amazing views of the near by city.
MrCopper K — Google review
Amazing ruins with breathtaking views. We arrived very early as it was our 2nd stop on our tour. Our small tour group were the only ones there at 8am, but others were arriving as we were ending our tour. There is a lot of walking so bring comfortable shoes.
E G — Google review
We had visited 8 years ago and we not able to go into the castle so it was exciting to be able to go up and visit and have a tour this time! What an interesting history, from the early celts and crowning of kings to the bishop and his domain.
Kat S — Google review
Quick stop for us while driving to Ennis. This place a is a must stop for incredible views of the castle ruins and the landscape surrounding it. Although the castle is in decay it was fun to explore every corner of its history. There’s also a very informative 10 minute video you can watch in the chapel

Nestled in the charming town of Cashel, the Cashel Woollen Store is a delightful destination for anyone in search of genuine Irish knitwear. This family-run establishment has been dedicated to creating beautiful woolen pieces for generations, utilizing time-honored techniques that reflect Ireland's rich textile heritage. Visitors often rave about their experiences here; many have shared heartwarming stories of finding cozy sweaters, scarves, and hats that they cherish deeply.
This place is amazing! So many wonderful wool products, more than you can imagine! I highly recommend shopping here! The woman who assisted us was the friendliest, earnest, kindest person we have met yet in Ireland! Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience! The scarf I purchased was perfect!

Very great products and met friendly people. Anyone visiting Rock of Cashel should definitely take a look here.

This gift store is located just outside of the Rock of Cashel. I found a magnet here and then just browsed around. They have dollar bills on the walls from around the world that people have signed,m which was neat. I was able to find someone from just a couple hours away from where I live.

I visited this cute little shop at the beginning of October while passing through and seeing the Rock of Cashel. This was a long awaited trip from the United States that was originally put on hold in 2020. Ended up buying a sweater there that I love (actually wearing it now). The shop owner was the nicest person and was so appreciated of my purchase due to tourism being stopped for so long. Please shop here. I highly recommend for all things Irish.
Leah H — Google review
Quaint shop. We were on a shore excursion and this shop was on our way back to the meeting place after our tour of the Rock of Cashel. I found a beautiful moss green sweater - perfect for winter weather. 100% virgin wool. Soooo soft.
D P — Google review
I brought my family to this adorable shop several years ago while I was studying abroad in Limerick and we were out site seeing. We ended up buying scarves, gloves and hats and couldn't have been happier. Later that year, I was gifted a gorgeous green, quarter zip sweater from this establishment for Christmas and it's my absolute favorite! This year I bought my father the Aran crew neck sweater for Christmas and can't wait for him to see it. This store is fantastic and I will definitely be making a special trip if I visit Ireland again. Would give more than 5 stars if I could.
Andrew S — Google review
Went to visit the Rock of Cashel a few days ago, and was disappointed that the castle appeared to be closed for some sort of renovations. Luckily the visit was not wasted, because we found this lovely little shop instead! The shopkeeper was delightful. I found a wonderful Aran wool sweater for myself and a couple gifts for friends. Highly recommend! Definitely make the trip here if you're exploring the Limerick area!

Hands down one of the best ladies I met in Ireland. She was very helpful, knowledgable, and cheerful! The shop has a great selection of beautiful wool items made in Ireland. All around great experience!

History Museums
Nestled in the charming town of Cashel, the Cashel Folk Village Museum is a captivating destination that brings Irish history to life. Established in 1984 by renowned historian Martin O'Dwyer Bob, this museum offers an insightful glimpse into pivotal events such as the 1916 Easter Rising, the War of Independence, and the Civil War. Visitors can explore a rich collection of memorabilia and artefacts that reflect Ireland's tumultuous past, including items from The Great Irish Famine.
If you would like to know more about the Irish history and see some antique pieces, you may find this place useful. The tour guides explain things for around half an hour.
Sibeesh V — Google review
We visited the museum and had a tour with the proprietor (Bernard). This was such a special place but what made it impactful was the owners knowledge and passion for Ireland and its history. Recommend this to anyone going to Ireland especially those interested in learning about her rich history and fight for freedom.
Laretha E — Google review
Bernard was really knowledgeable and passionate about his museum. He was very kind and accommodating. He told us about every piece in his collection which was very interesting and you could tell how passionate he was about his work. I would 100% recommend visiting. He has the most comprehensive private collection of historic Irish memorabilia- from war of independence pieces to ancient natural history items
Josh T — Google review
Bernard was a joy to meet, so knowledgeable and informative, it’s people like him that bring history to life. This museum is well worth the visit and is just around the corner from the Rock of Cashel.

Good historical place where can get know Irish history to know. Can get good stories to know...
Zigurds B — Google review
This was the highlight of a touring day in Cashel. I see in some other reviews that this museum is not as polished as some publicly run museums but don't let that put you off! This museum was absolutely charming and full of rare and interesting artefacts. Bernard, who runs this private museum, greeted us warmly and proceeded to give us a fascinating overview of Irish history. He then pointed out some of the more significant items interesting to us in particular. I could have listened to Bernard all day. This place is a gem. Thank you, Bernard!
Brigid F — Google review
It would be easy to underestimate this small museum. Bernard is a passionate student and teacher of Irish history. His collection has been gathered together and meticulously researched. On the small premises he has gathered so many genuine artifacts. While it may not have the expensive polished modern presentation of a public museum, it more than makes up for in detail. Bernard does not pull any punches telling modern Irish history and has discovered and rescued items that give more colour and depth to Irish life over the last two hundred years. A must for anyone who wants to get “beneath the surface”
Jennifer S — Google review
A must see for history lovers. The museum is full of priceless artifacts from prehistoric art to weapons used by the early 20th century irish resistance. The tour guide was accommodating, knowledgeable, and had an answer for every question I had and more. I learned some great information about everything from James Connelly and Michael Collins to Cromwell. My girlfriend found it on accident as we were only stopping through Cashel and correctly thought that I would love it.

Wonderful evening in the company of my fellow ICA members at Bru Boru. Welcoming staff, lovely food, brilliant show..so much talent among the entertainers, dancers, singers, musicians! Sean O Sé, the one and only true singer of An Poc ar Buile, was a joy to listen to. Then following the show an informal gathering downstairs..more singing, dancing ,ceol, craic, comhluadar. Well worth a visit.

Stunning setting, fantastic facilities, beautiful meal and wonderful show. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit from start to finish. Will definitely revisit next summer
Monica H — Google review
I feel cheated. This is not worth €5 to expose yourself to toxic mold in a theatre that they say is new exhibition. The cheek of them to say that when the footage is from the 2000s. Then you have the daft video with horns blaring so loud it wrecks your ears. There is like ten artifacts in the entire route which would take literally one minute to walk. Oh and great help for people with disabilities, the lift doesn't even work. No way down to the main building unless you take steps so it is not wheel chair accessible anyway. The toilets are down a bunch of steps too. How can somewhere not be wheel chair accessible? This was an absolute joke and I am actually angry. I paid €10 for the pleasure of taking my husband into a toxic mouldy underground pit. I had to work an hour of my job at min wage to afford to have the piss taken out of me. It should be free or only a euro. It's ridiculous and a scam.

We came here for their evening music and dance performance. The music and dancers were great and afterwards they had an informal, interactive session where you got to see everyone in a more casual environment where they shared some scones and tea with us (alcoholic drinks were also available for a reasonable cost), taught us an easy dance and both the performers and the guests could sing, play music, and share in the evening's entertainment. Super fun and would highly recommend it!

We visited this heritage centre just after visiting the nearby landmark medieval Rock of Cashel. It's an excellent venue for dining and Irish heritage entertainment. After browsing through the craft shop we had a light lunch here which was just perfect. Great food and great hospitality by a very friendly wait staff and thank you for accommodating my special dietary needs.

You can't miss visiting Brú Ború when passing by Cashel. Brú Ború is right at the foot of the Rock of Cashel (entrance through the Rock of Cashel carpark!) Get a free entrance to the Rock of Cashel when you spend €15 in their craft shop/cafe!

Right here, I want to bury the hatchet firmly in all previous reviews on the food served here, the service, & the show itself - I HAD to peronally congratulate the Staff for their impeccable work on the night I visited. Breanna, Rebecca... Every staff member showed hospitality so faultless I felt like a true VIP. Mark, the chef, certainly demonstrated his talent that night. The 3-course set menu (with coffee to finish), costing €28, may initially sound a bit expensive but the dining experience is well worth it:- Whether you order Salmon, Beef or Chicken, pure pleasure is what you'll be served. Perfectly balanced flavours, perfectly cooked, & perfectly proportioned (big enough to fill a hard-working New Jersey police officer). Once you've had your fill it's on to the show (€20, starting at 9pm during the Summer months):- A joyous spectacle of music & river dance performed by the very staff who served you your meals. Although it may not be up for any Oscar nominations, there is no denying the incredible talent exhibited by the musicians & dancers - you can't help but clap along... And be prepared to continue clapping along after the show, or even particpate yourself, as they continue to perform long into the night, just for the fun of it. Just under €50 for over 5 hours of excellent food & entertainment, and a whole host of new friends -- well worth every cent.

Excellent evening entertainment from skilled musicians and dancers. Just over an hour of joyous music and dance....then free scone and tea with a more informal session of song and dance with audience participation. Great evening out

Parking lot
The Rock of Cashel Car Park is conveniently located at the base of the iconic Rock of Cashel, making it an ideal starting point for your visit. Situated approximately 170 kilometers west of Dublin and easily accessible via the M7 and M8 routes, this car park offers a straightforward option for travelers. For those looking to explore more, consider taking a scenic detour through the stunning Wicklow Mountains or visiting the historic town of Kilkenny.
Easy to park, we were there about 2-3 hours and it was €4.50. There were lots of spaces when we got there around 11:20 but by 12:30 it was full and lots of angry people not able to park. There is a small 1 car road to get to the car park, with lots of pedestrians walking in the road.
Beth — Google review
Easy parking though be careful of tourists wondering all over the road. Toilet block between carpark and the Rock of Cashel. Tour well worth it to understand the history of the site.
Julie M — Google review
There were no spaces available, so we waited 20 minutes for a space to become available to park our motorhome before getting out again. 20 minutes that cost us €4.50 even though we didn't even get out of the vehicle.
Nicolas M — Google review
A most scenic spot the car park. Great views of the Rock from here, you can see why it remained a well-defended spot for so many centuries.
Davis J — Google review
Had to request a lost ticket and pay 4.50eur to exit the car park when I arrived past 18.30 and tried to leave before 7.30. The barrier wouldn't lift otherwise. The operator I got on the interphone has been rude and not understandable. Bad experience unfortunately for me... Edit: I have sent a reimbursement request to the Co Tipperary customer service that has been accepted.
Sylvain ( — Google review
Terrible parking, no sign for available spots and now way of queuing. Waited 25 mins before finding a spot, while I had to argue and block a road to kinda queue up for it.
Kostas N — Google review
Unfortunately there wasn’t a space available so I couldn’t park there. But I wasn’t charged to drive though and check if there was space available.
John C — Google review
No proper display of the route to car park. Unmanned expensive limited parking. Hardly a few spots to park. Not worth the visit one bit. Just a bunch of ruins like the ones you have all over Ireland.Skip if it's in the itinerary. Wasted time just trying to find the extrance to the place. Confusing no entry entrance on google maps. Park at rock house restaurant for good food and walk to the rock of cashel instead if adamant to visit.

St. Declan's Way is a historic pilgrimage route that connects Cashel in County Tipperary to Ardmore in County Waterford, following the path St. Declan traveled to meet St. Patrick in the fifth century. The trail offers picturesque views of the countryside and the Knockmealdown Mountains, with about 60% of the walk taking place on well-kept small roads. The signage along the route is excellent, making it easy for pilgrims and hikers to navigate.
Walked from Aglish to Ardmore. Lovely peaceful walk with about 60% on small roads. The lanes were well kept and the signage was excellent. A few hills but not too strenuous! Lovely views of the countryside and Knockmealdowns when high up. Lovely walk, about 20km.

The food is simple but done perfectly! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming just as you’d expect a place called Granny’s kitchen to be. The best part was the service! Friendly, warm and kind - they really made my day! Excellent knowledge of the area and provides great recommendations!

Granny's Kitchen is a wonderful little cafe a stones throw away from the Rock of Cashel! Stop in for some coffee and scrumptious desserts. The Carrot Cake was delicious and the Rhubarb Tart with fresh whipped cream from a local farmer was fabulous! We also enjoyed the root vegtable soup and brown soda bread! What made this cafe extra special was Annie and the rest of the staff. We felt welcomed and received first rate service, as we enjoyed our lunch on the outside patio! I highly recommend you stop by for a bite and say hi to Annie for me!

Modern European restaurant
Chez Hans is a sophisticated dining spot located in a converted Victorian Gothic church, offering a daily changing European menu. It's highly regarded among the best restaurants in Cashel, Ireland and is known for its fine Irish cuisine. The restaurant provides an elegant atmosphere to enjoy favorites like quiche, shepherd's pie, and beef along with delectable desserts such as crumble, scones, and fruitcake.
Chez Hans remains a truly special place. From the warm welcome on arrival to the unhurried time to catch up with fellow diners, every moment feels effortless. The main dining room is stunning, with its striking architecture and artwork setting the tone for an exceptional experience. The team—both the familiar faces and the impeccably trained new staff—exude warmth and professionalism. As for the food, each course surpasses the last, flawlessly cooked with thoughtful twists that leave you eager to return and explore more of the menu. Yes, Cashel has seen new dining spots emerge, but Chez Hans remains unmatched. Its charm, hospitality, and unmistakable Céad Míle Fáilte set it apart. (And for full transparency—I’ve tried the new places too.) Highly recommended.

10/10, one of the finest restaurant experiences in Ireland. We have brought some groups of friends here who have never been before, and they have all been blown away. The experience starts in the bar with pre-dinner drinks and top class service from the No.1 barman, Seamie. Such a great character and sets the tone for any great evening. Our meal was fab, from starters to deserts. Everything was delightful and served with an abundance of professionalism and friendliness. The staff here are very well trained in hospitality and you can easily see the difference. We will return here, again and again. Well done team Hans, keep up the great work 👏

Fantastic. Pre drinks area nice and intimate with a very friendly attentive barman. Restaurant area feels very cosy yet spacious with gorgeous lofted church ceiling and interesting paintings adorning the walls. Wait staff are very accommodating and plesant. Food was simply divine I had the duck starter and wow!! Mains were lamb 3 way which I would highly recommend and my husband had the fillet of steak - also amazing, nicest we have both tasted!! For dessert I had the coffee semifreddo and it was divine!

Obviously, the atmosphere, being a former church, is without rivals. And as you can expect, the staff is great at everything they do. But honestly? we return here time after time for the food. This may just be the best restaurant we've eaten at in Ireland, and it fully deserves the reputation it has. Everything, from the drinks, to the bread, to the starters, to the mains, to the deserts, is top quality and leaves you wanting for more. In conclusion: highly recommended. *While the menu changes over time, we've found that the sticky toffee pudding is always on the menu, and it is superb.

Chez Hans is a joy of a restaurant- Delicious cooking- our go to with foodie friends-quintessentially Irish-local-friendly-with a quality of cooking that stands up to the best. The fish is excellent, the care with vegetables, what can I say, it is where I brought my children to give them a joy of food, of gathering. Thankyou to the Mathias family for your commitment to great food and hospitality.

We visited in November the food was lovely with exception of chips which were very bad, there were like boiled potatos with one lucky properly fried one chip. I ate cezar salad which was ok Lamb shoulder which was delicious And chocolate musse which was nice but was to much crumble pieces for me and not enough of musse. My husband had beef carpaccio ( i hope i spelled that right) which was ok He had duck leg which was the most delicious duck we ever ate, and he had sticky toffee pudding which he said that was the best he ever has and he enjoyed the pudding a lot. The atmosphere was nice. Service was interesting...... As we entered we were seated in a bar area at the tiny table and we were given a menus and as we are there first time we were thinking thats it, thats the place, and we were puzzled how the plates will fit on those tiny tables -no one from staff mentioned that is the waiting area and we will be seated elswere later. . First time there we knew nothing about the place. About 10minutes later we were told that out table is ready and we were shown to bigger dinning room. The place was nice and clean. We were served by 2 different people which which from we got totally oposite vibes from. The lady in her 50s with no smile, with no hapiness that she did not like to be there. Not very welcoming, kind like she was in pain or something. At the end i believed that she was going to ask us if the food was ok but instead she said " the food was ok, right?" and she didnt wait for an answer from us, she just asked and answered her own question. On the other hand the male server in his 50s or 60s was a delight, smile, beautiful happy energy radiating from him. Very welcoming. After we paid our bill, my husband went to use a restroom and i waited in the hallway and this nice waiter noticed me waiting there and he bring me a chair to seat. Outstanding manners. We will return for sure

Bakery
Nestled in the charming town of Cashel, Spearman's Bakery and Tearoom is a delightful spot that promises a warm welcome and an array of delectable treats. After exploring the historic Rock of Cashel, many visitors find their way to this hidden gem for a satisfying meal or snack. The menu features mouthwatering options like tuna toasties and hearty vegetable soup, both praised for their exceptional flavors. Coffee lovers will appreciate the perfectly brewed flat whites served right to your table.
We decided to check out Spearman's Bakery & Tea Room after our tour of the Rock of Cashel.. Great decision. I got a sandwich (Tuna toastie) and a flat white while the missus had the Vegetable Soup. The coffee was perfect, sandwich was delicious while the missus claims the soup was the best vegetable soup she ever tasted. Highly recommended.

A must-visit spot! Spearman’s is a gem of a family-run bakery with outstanding service and great value. Hannah is always so warm and welcoming — she really adds to the experience. The fruit scone is a must-try, and we always go for the toasted sandwiches and soup. The soup is consistently delicious and perfectly seasoned. Fast, friendly service every time. Highly recommend!

Sweet little place. Very friendly people. Only had coffee, but others were eating pastries and other baked goods. Good coffee, they bring to your table.

Nice little place for a scone and tea. Super friendly people. Had a long chat with the owner about travels and such. They don't do the vouchers for free entrance to the Rock, but the food is freshly baked, and the tea is hot.

Cafe Hans is a charming little spot located near the Rock of Cashel, offering flavorful and high-quality meals. Guests rave about the fantastic table bread served with seeds and flaked salt. The Goats Cheese Salad with Couscous is described as light and creamy, while the lamb burger is hailed as one of the best ever tasted. Despite its small size, the cafe's exceptional food and service make it a must-visit for travelers in Ireland.
Simply top notch food. One of the best meals of our foodie centric 2 week journey around the Republic. The best lamb burger ever made? I would say yes. Mom's Caesar salad was so creative. Service was exceptional also. See you again.

Would I Recommend It - ✔ YES Would I Return - ✔ YES This place is one heck of a joint. In a quiet area just steps from the Rock of Cashel, this little cafe serves up meals big on Flavour and Quality. 🔹️First - The table bread - Yes...I said Table Bread and, it was Fantastic. I wish every meal I ever ate came with brown bread scattered with seeds and sprinkled with the most delicious flaked salt. 🔹️Salad - Goats Cheese Salad with Couscous. Whipped, light as air cheese with a creamy consistency. The slightly charred and juicy tomatoes together with fresh garden herbs really made a simple salad into something special. 🔹️The Main Course - Salmon with Vegetables and Mashed Potatoes. Perfectly cooked, delicious flakey Salmon. 🔹️Dessert- It was like a sticky toffee fig cake and a twinkie mated. A wonderful meal, in a beautiful place.

Great little restaurant/cafe that sits at the base of the Rock of Cashel. The Cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch (the Hanz restaurant opens for dinner) and the food was fantastic, probably one of the best meals we had in Ireland. The place is rather small, as a party of 2 at 1pm, we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table so be prepared if you have a large group.
Johny J — Google review
We chanced on this wee place a week after it reopened (post Covid, I think). Good coffee, really tasty (and big!) chocolate chip and nut cookie baked fresh on site. Reasonably priced. Attentive and friendly staff. Their ice cream made on site looks good too, although we didn’t try it. Clean toilets.

Small cafe near Rock of Cashel where my wife and I stopped for a late lunch. The place was busy and it's a bit crowded, but service was prompt and the food was delicious. My wife thought the mussels were the best she's ever eaten. I would give them five stars but they don't accept credit cards and there is no nearby ATM. Seems unusual for a popular spot near a tourist attraction to only take cash in this day and age. So plan ahead, bring some Euros, and enjoy a nice meal.

Visitors have described it as a hidden gem with top-notch food and a casual yet refined ambiance. The staff is known for their exceptional service, offering helpful suggestions and accommodating guests even without reservations.
Amazing food and service. I have been to high end restaurants with worse service and food than here. Starting with bread and butter coming to the table followed by our picked starters (crab cake and soup) everything was very taste, the cakes had quite a bit of crab in it. The brisket main was delicious and tasty. Loved the taste of the potatoes. The dessert was the strawberry parfait and it was also very tasty and delicious

Nice restaurant, part of the five stars hotel over there. We had Pan fried hake & burger. Unfortunately the burger was fully cooked, it’s a rule here. I didn’t enjoy it much because of this. The potatoes were so crispy!!! The Hake was excellent cooked and the pees pure was great! Highly recommended plate. As dessert we choose baked custard & strawberry tart which was nice, the ice cream was totally indifferent. If you are not a hotel customer you cannot seat outside unfortunately. There is some discrimination about it. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We paid around 30€ per person.

Went there for the first time with my wife. Great ambience with relaxed professional staff that are smartly dressed in a casual manner. Starter of duck confit and salmon was very tasty. The Hake was good and beef was tender. Good portions and well prepared. Tasty too. A great interlude for St Patrick Day.

Irish restaurant
John J. Feehan is a family-owned pub located near the Rock of Cashel, in business for almost a century. The food and service are fantastic, with a unique honey mustard that's made fresh daily from a secret recipe. Visitors rave about the pulled pork blaa and chicken deluxe toasted sandwich, as well as the chicken salad and mushroom soup. The atmosphere is lovely, with personable staff and locals popping in during their shopping trips.
Beautiful traditional gastro pub. It has an old time feel thanks to the decor and the many antiques, photos and books that are tastefully and strategically placed in the two story building. The building boasts an upstairs balcony and a street dining area. Giving the perfect c t opportunity to watch the world go by. The staff are efficient and courteous. Every inch of the pub is spotlessly clean, maintained and presented. While the pub caters for viewing bigger sporting events, the screens do not take over, nor do they dull the welcoming and cosy feel to the pub. A blazing open fire adds to the homeliness factor. It is a beautifully kept, old world charming building in a historical setting. It is a haven for locals and a taste of what being Irish is about for visitors to the town and country. Food is varied, presented to a high standard so as to tempt any palate. Prices are both reasonable and competitive. Feehans is a charming venue for a quiet drink or a meeting with friends and colleagues. Highly recommended 👌

Best pub lunch we ever had! I had the pulled pork blaa, my hubby had the chicken deluxe toasted sandwich. I loved all the flavours in the pork, perfect onion rings and crunchy fries. Bowes & Co. is a charming eatery located in Cashel, offering a delightful dining experience for visitors. The owner warmly recommended the diverse menu, which features traditional pancakes with maple syrup, apple pie, hot chocolate, barbecue chicken salad, catch of the day and chowder. Customers were pleasantly surprised by the fresh and flavorful salads and hearty meals that stood out among their culinary experiences in Ireland. The friendly staff and inviting atmosphere added to the overall appeal of this establishment.
We were visiting the Rock of Cashel a couple of days ago and received a lunch recommendation leaving the castle from a very welcoming woman named Mary. Mary said the restaurant was just a couple minutes away and we wouldn’t be disappointed. Mary was spot on! Immediately walking in to the space you are welcomed into a beautiful atmosphere. Once seated by the host you notice the intentional decor on the table- milk, sugar cubes and wooden spoons with the table number. The food arrived quickly and it was absolutely amazing! The sweet potato soup and the mushrooms with cream sauce were delicious, definitely the best meal we had in our week stay across the country of Ireland. I highly recommend! I too, like Mary, know you will not be disappointed!

Just as other reviews have noted, we came across Mary at the Rock of Cashal and she suggested we stop in after our tour and it was one of the best choices we made our whole trip. The menu was unique and great for kids and adults and a fresh change from the Irish Pub food we had been consuming most of the week. Mary and the staff were exceptionally welcoming and engaging with us and other customers. Well worth a visit and check out the view of the Rock from inside.

3 minute walk from rock of cashel. My husband ordered a toastie, I ordered the pulled pork and my son had the kids beef burger. No complaints here. The pulled pork was tender and they give you so much of it- the sauce was on the sweeter side but not unbearable. My husband’s toastie was delicious. I ate more of his than mine. My son hates any sauce on his burgers so was very happy it came out with sauce or pickles.

During a recent lunch visit at Room4 Cafe, I had an amazing time. The food was exceptional and offered a wide range of tasty options that satisfied my palate. Not only was the meal top-notch, but the homemade dessert was also a delightful indulgence that left me wanting more. What really impressed me was the meticulous attention to detail and commitment to high quality. The staff members were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasantness of the lunch experience.
Room 4 is our favourite stop whenever we're travelling home from Ringaskiddy — it’s become a little tradition for us, as it’s perfectly placed halfway along our journey. On our most recent visit, as always, we were greeted with genuine warmth and great courtesy. The service was excellent, and the food was fresh, delicious and great value. The "mini Irish" breakfast is a real gem and nothing mini about it. It’s a lovely spot that never disappoints, and we always look forward to calling in. Highly recommended!

A hidden gem for a proper recharge between journeys. After dropping guests at the nearby Cashel Palace, I stopped by Room 4 Coffee — and I’m glad I did. The toasted sandwich with chunky chips hit the spot, and the Innocent juice was a nice touch alongside a quality flat white. Friendly service, relaxed outdoor seating, and clean presentation all around. I couldn’t resist trying the Ferrero-style cheesecake on round two — rich, smooth, and paired nicely with whipped cream and orange juice. Just the right kind of treat before hitting the road again. Great spot for chauffeurs looking for a quiet break or travellers passing through Cashel. Will definitely return.

It can be hard sometimes when you’re passing through a town you don’t know that well to find somewhere good to stop for a break. Having spotted the Badger & Dodo Coffee Roasters sign outside we thought “well, at least the coffee will be good”. It was! Beautifully made, it was as tasty and satisfying as ever. Nice pastries too, and most importantly, welcoming and friendly service. All in all, a great choice – just what we needed. Our only regret? We’d already had breakfast, and judging by the dishes being served we clearly missed out on not having some here - they looked wonderful. Next time, it’ll be a diversion to come here to try some, rather than just a stop off. Overall, highly recommended.

Not happy with this place at all. Got food and drinks which was fine. Got charged extra for the drinks for the return scheme. Fine. I went to return the cans and they weren't accepted. It's not about the money but they charge and then you can't get it back. I rang the store looking to speak with a manager and this man called Farhan or something similar, told me he was the manager. He said what do you want me to do. I said well as the manager I'd like you to tell me. I was told to ring back after 8. That's when the manager would be back. He kept lying to me about being the manager and repeating what do you want me to do. Not happy with this rubbish service.

They then proceeded to tell me they would be back with my coke ans money but they never showed up. They ran me 5 minutes after I got my order and told me that it wasn’t mine and that I ordered 1 large pepperoni pizza and a load of other things .

There should be an option to leave zero stars on here. Ordered pizza and chips at 5pm, at 6pm the online tracker said it was delivered so I rang to see where it was and I was told it is a few minutes away! I rang back at 730pm and the girl said she was just starting the order!!! I asked to speak to the manager who got completely aggressive on the phone saying they were very busy, when I pointed out that she herself said it was a few minutes away an hour and a half ago she hung up. Friendly service. Everything else was very poor, our food was lacking for the price paid. The mushy peas seen in the photo say a thousand words. Would not recommend unfortunately!

We had a lovely meal at this restaurant. Our server was kind and helpful, the meal was one of our best of our visit to Ireland. Not only was it delicious, but perfectly presented. They have some specialty beers that my son sampled. I wish they were closer as I'd visit more often.

Hore Abbey is a medieval ruin located near the Rock of Cashel in Tipperary County, Ireland. Situated just 1.5 kilometers apart, these historic sites offer a glimpse into the region's past. The abbey features remnants of rose windows and is situated on private land, allowing free entry at your own risk. While there may be limited parking nearby, the scenic walk to explore these ancient ruins is worth it for history enthusiasts and curious travelers alike.
A beautiful abbey well worth exploring, the interior is large and well perserved, parking is on the main road. You can walk all the way around the abbey and enjoy its views from all side and of course you have the rock of Cashel just up the road, cheers

Free to visit, and a wonderful ruin. We spent about an hour here, wandering around the site. Lots of beautiful details to spot, and some friendly cows to say hello to!

Very atmospheric place, full of history. I love all sorts of the medieval ruins. Not many people around it was a but mucky on the way.

À beautiful abbey well worth exploring. The interior is spacious and well preserved. You can walk all the way around the abbey and enjoy its views from every angle. And of course, the famous Rock of Cashel is just up the road, clearly visible from the site. Only a 13 minutes walk from the town. Definitely worth a visit!

Ancient Ruins
Hore Abbey Entrance is a captivating site that beckons history enthusiasts and curious travelers alike. Nestled near the iconic Rock of Cashel, this 13th-century Cistercian monastery offers a glimpse into Ireland's rich past. Founded in 1272, the abbey features impressive ruins including a cruciform church, tower, square cloister, and living quarters.
What a stunning place! I've seen many ruins, but never one that was so freely available to all. No visitor centre, no car park, no queues or tickets. Just a lovely natural setting. The only thing I wish they had was brief information boards explaining different parts of the ruins and their history.
Therese J — Google review
Great place. Much better than the Rock of Cashel located on a hill above the abbey. Walking down to it through the sheep pasture and then getting through the cow pasture is an experience on its own. The abbey itself is not crowded and well preserved. Very fun to see.
Max W — Google review
A stunning abbey with loads to explore. Its setting in the middle of a large field and with cows for company gets you ready to search out it most interesting little gems. The Rock Of Cashel is in the back ground and in a way they are both connected. Parking is on the side road and a its superb location to visit, cheers
Michael G — Google review
One of my favourite spots in the south of Ireland. It is so underrated and well kept! It is also free of charge ♡ The ruins are gorgeous and certainly gave me that peaceful feeling that I look for when visiting places like these! There is a small cemetery at the back, and stunning views of Rock of Cashel. To enter you must follow the footpath into the private fields, please respect the fields and don't litter. P.S. When in the abbey, don't forget to look up :)
Steph G — Google review
There is no good place to park but it's a short walk from town and there's a little walkway trail from the Rock of Cashel to the Abbey, just follow the signs for the Tipperary Heritage Walk. There is a gate at the entrance with a little information about the Abbey. There is a path from the gate to the Abbey that crosses a cow pasture, be careful to avoid cow patties. The Abbey has a lot to see and it's free. We stayed just up the road at O'Brien's Lodge so it was easy to get there.
Andrea A — Google review
This Abbey can be seen from the grounds of the Rock of Cashel and is within walking distance , probably 10-15mins. If you go by car there is very limited parking We went by car and what made this unique was we had to cross a field of cows to get to the Abbey which for us made it more fun. You enter at your own risk but the cows never bothered us. The Abbey was bigger than we expected and in good shape in many places. As it's in the middle of a field it also makes for some great photo shots . If you visiting Rock of Cashel then pop in to the Abbey
Andre H — Google review
It's nice to be able to walk around ruins without a conglomerate of people buzzing about. If you want to examine some nice ruins not too far off the road this is a nice place. Plus it is a short walk through two fields beyond the Rock of Cashel.
Jesse H — Google review
It’s a beautiful historical place originally built in the 13th century. It has ruins but well protected. A bit confusing when you see the sign at the gate, seems like a private property. After talking to a nice local lady, I found that the building structures are Ireland heritage and government property along with the walkway. The surrounding field is more like private property since cows come to the area during summer. No designated parking but you can just park on the street. Free parking and free entrance. A roadside attraction from Dublin to Cork.

Great ice cream place! Excellent soft serve (really excellent!), served quickly and friendly. Nice table area outside as well to enjoy your ice cream in the nice weather.
Sean A — Google review
Just passing here Sunday 26/10/2025 to get a crepe lemon& sugar and sweet chilli chicken panini takeaway and realised when back to my location Thurles: there was no lemon and no sugar at all in it. I could admit lemon may be absorbed in the crepe but no trace of sugar at all on the plate, crepe or even sticky foil. Disappointed ☹️ as I was also billed for the crepe and lemon and sugar price☹️☹️ Reason given when I phoned: young staff…

To be fair, the food here is excellent. Great for freshness, and a lot better value than most other options. You just must be clear about what ingredients you don't want, but the food is great.

We were staying one night in a local camping park so decided to eat out. We walked around the town looking for somewhere that my partner could eat as he has a medical condition that means he has to eat very low fat. We spotted that they did steamed sea bass in Ruen Mying & we were sold. The food was exceptional. I had the penang curry with chicken & himself had the fish. So impressed. Don't hesitate to go here..

I recently tried out this place for a meal, and I have to say, it was fantastic. I went for the chicken satay with udon noodles, and it was really, really tasty. The chicken was perfectly grilled and had great flavours, and the udon noodles paired with it were just perfect. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try if you're looking for some delicious food.

Day 4

For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Marlhill Open Farm. Not quite as popular as Rock of Cashel, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 5 hours.

Playground
Marlhill Open Farm, owned and operated by the Fitzgerald Family, is a family-friendly destination that opened in October 2021. The farm offers a variety of activities for young families, including a big indoor soft play area, petting farm, barrel train, mini digger challenge, sand pit and more. Visitors have praised the cleanliness of the facilities and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food at the on-site cafe.
We had such an amazing day at Marlhill, my 17 month son absolutely loved the place. There was so much to see and do and the staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Such a wonderful place my son loved the sandpit and playground they had put the back as well! He was fascinated by the animals and the farmer there brought out a little rabbit for him to pet. Would definitely recommend for a day out in good or bad weather!
Rachel P — Google review
Lovely spot for a day out. The animals were cute and we got to rub some. My little girl loved the quad train but the big hit was the soft play inside, both my little boy and girl loved it and played there for ages. Cafe is lovely. The place is so clean which is fantastic.
Emma H — Google review
Awesome stop on our drive from Dublin to Cork. My 2.5 year old daughter loved the bunnies and other small animals. It was raining, but there were plenty of covered areas with the small animals and an awesome indoor play area for kids. The little cafe was the perfect snack and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Dan C — Google review
Visited here a few weekends ago with my 1 year old, what a great day out! Lovely cafe, separate play area for younger children and then the amazing outdoor area with so many animals. The staff were very friendly and to be able to pet the animals was amazing, my little girl loved it. I was disappointed to see negative comments on Facebook about recent price restructuring, it seems that the owners were massively undercharging previously and are now charging reasonable prices. A family run great amenity for people to have in their area or to visit when there and worth every cent of the admission price. We hope to be back!
Maggie W — Google review
Stopped here to break up the drive from Dublin to Cork with our 3 and 1 year olds. We had some lunch straight away which was lovely and very kid friendly (plastic plates, plain no fuss food). Kids played in the indoor soft play and baby play area. Everything was spotless and well maintained. We went to the petting area and the owner was attentive and friendly introducing the animals to my son. Then he brought him on the Quad bike train and he had a ball. Lots of tears when we were leaving which is the ultimate stamp of approval from a 3 year old. Great outdoor play facilities too. Will definitely return.
Ciara P — Google review
Fab place!! Our 3 year old had the best time. Activities inside & out. The ride in the homemade train led by the Quad bike was awesome. Will be back regularly!!
Lucy K — Google review
This is a super place to tire out kids and stimulate them in equal measure. First timers here. I brought Granny, my 4 year old and >2 Yr old here. Charged €25 euro in. Definitely worth it as we spent 2&half hours between looking at the animals, digging in the covered outdoor sandpit, using the playground and go-kart track, exploring the indoor soft play area and even petting the Guinea pigs. We had 2xlattes at €3.70 each and shared a toasted sandwich with 3 toppings at €7. Overall the kids had a ball, plenty to do even in poorly weather. I'd highly recommend if in the area.
Emily O — Google review
Visited this weekend with my (almost) 2 year old nephew and his parents. Was really impressed with the entire setup from the big indoor soft play area, to the petting farm, the barrel train, the mini digger challenge, sand pit and so much more. The place was spotless (well before aforementioned 2 year old dropped half his lunch on the cafe floor!). Food was much nicer than expected of places like this - had chicken goujon salad and 2 toasted sandwiches with chips. Very fresh and tasty! Stars of the show were the family and staff running the place. Couldn't have made us more welcome or been more friendly. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

McDonald's is a well-established fast-food chain recognized for its classic burgers and fries. The menu is consistent across all locations, offering quick and convenient meals. The food is typically prepared in advance and kept warm until served, making it ideal for a speedy bite while on the go. Many patrons appreciate the cleanliness of the restaurants, making it a suitable stop for refueling during travel.
Stopped in here on my way home from Cork and I have to say I had an excellent experience. The food and staff were lovely - especially Noreen who went out of her way to be extremely kind and friendly to me, she made my day! Highly recommend!

It's a McDonald's which means the kids will love it regardless. Usually busy at lunch and has drive through. Clean and efficient service. Good spot to break up trip and get some food if traveling to Cork or onto Kerry.
Finn — Google review
I was one of I’d say about two orders and they still messed it up. Got nuggets instead of a cheeseburger in the happy mean and ice in the no ice drink. They just threw the order on the counter and walked away I asked multiple times for a new bag as it was ripped and I was completely blanked. I do not recommend.
Robert R — Google review
Very good for a quick lunch when you are stopping for gas and other items, or perhaps you need a rest period. The food is what you expect for a McDonald's, but the featured chocolate pie is quite delicious. The restaurant is clean and well kept. If you are non-Irish, your debit card may have a hard time working at the kiosk, just order at the counter.
Emily F — Google review
One of the worst McDonalds I have visited in a long while, two staff I spoke with on my visit this weekend and both were unfriendly and unhelpful, my order took much longer than it should, it came out about 10 mins after it cleared from the ready section on the screen. The team that gather the food and hand out the orders could do with some training and leadership to improve the customer experience 👍
Shane ( — Google review
A very nice lady named Owlen was responsible for making us feel very comfortable in the restaurant area. We have never seen such a dedicated and friendly service employee at McDonald's who was so eager to clean everything under the table and on the table spotlessly. Thank you very much!
Markus F — Google review
I have been to a fair few McNasties in my time but this one takes top McNasty prize! The place was filthy with all the bins overflowing, dirty tables while 4 staff stood in the corner having a chat. Then when placing my order almost half the burger menu was unavailable? I did get my food quickly and efficiently, a big mac, no lettuce, extra pickle and 9 nuggets. When I tried to eat the big mac it fell apart due the massive amount of sauce in it. The nuggets were fine. The car park was much better than the inside of the restaurant, mess and rubbish wise. I am guessing this place only survives because of it location in a services. It is surprising the are managing to hold on to their franchise.... It's a big mac No from me
John T — Google review
Just writing this as I had pulled into the Cashel McDonalds to grab some quick food for the day as I had a pretty manic day ahead of me driving up the country. As I was biting into a Big Mac when I was back on the motorway, I saw they had left me short of half the meat. The main reason I would order something like that is for the meat. Seems like an unlikely mistake to make but maybe I'm wrong. I would hate to think that this is sort of like something that they're trying to pull on customers who are eager to get back on the motorway.
