Transportation
Newark Liberty International Airport, the oldest airfield in the US, has been serving the NYC area since 1928. It is one of three major airports in New York City, along with LaGuardia and JFK. Originally named Newark Metropolitan Airport, it's now a key hub for 50 carriers and serves New Jersey as well as a large part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The airport offers automated processes, helpful support staff, cleanliness, and strict security measures.
Today we visited Newark Airport during our transition via New York. Inter terminal transfers were great 👍. From terminal B to Terminal A - we took the Air train and then shuttle. It was a smooth transition. Photos included. Other key points - Modern and clean: Many reviews highlight the significant improvements in Terminal A, describing it as modern, clean, and spacious. Faster security (with Global Entry): Some travelers, particularly those with Global Entry, report a smooth and efficient security experience in the newer facilities. Good food options: In Terminal A, passengers have noted a variety of new restaurants and bars, including popular chains like Shake Shack. New lounges: The recently opened United and Delta lounges in Terminal A and C have received praise for being nice, clean, and well-equipped.

Newark Airport is a beautiful and massive airport, maybe even better than JK. The structure is modern, clean, and well organized, which makes the whole travel experience very smooth. One of the things that impressed me the most is how easy it is to get transportation: whether it’s Uber, private car, or other services, everything is simple and convenient. Definitely a great option when flying to or from the New York area!
Loredana C — Google review
Definitely one of the best airports I have been through in the United States. I was flying in from DC with a connection onward to Phoenix and it was a great experience. When connecting between terminals, there are shuttle buses that run airside. I came in at gate C94 and had slightly over 2 hours for my connection at gate A29. In the center of concourse A, it is massive. The ceilings are high, the windows are huge, and there are plenty of shopping and dining options. It's comparable to the Great Hall area of the Tom Bradley terminal at LAX. And it's also great for aviation enthusiasts because there are lots of good spots to stand by the large windows and photograph and watch planes coming and going. Overall Newark EWR is a great airport and is very easy to navigate with lots of good signage and if you're not sure, staff are very helpful with directing people where they need to go.
Matt M — Google review
Recently I visited the airport and had wonderful experiences. The flight landed at terminal B, we took the AirTrain and shuttle to reach out to Terminal A. It's a clean and tranquil airport. Spending around 4 hrs transition time ⏲️ was not boring at all. Baggage collection, rechecking the luggage, passing the security and custom/immigration checks, all were smooth. You can take Canada ✈️ via USA , it will be convenient. Although I had heard via US there may be some complications but we had no issues, nothing to complain and had great experience.
Narender B — Google review
EWR has honestly been my second home these past few years. I’ve flown in and out of Newark Liberty so much I could walk the terminals in my sleep. It’s always busy, but it moves — TSA lines usually run smooth and there are plenty of food spots once you’re through security. I use CLEAR at EWR and it’s always fast and reliable. Even when I’m traveling with my kids, getting through the airport stays easy. I’ve had a couple delays here, but they handled it every time — vouchers, rebooking, the works. And I’m a red-eye girl, so those late-night flights through Newark always hit perfect. Overall, a solid, reliable airport that keeps travel smooth.
Danielle P — Google review
This time check in was the smoothest process ever at Newark Airport. We did most of the process at home but still, the rest of the process took us about 15 minutes. It had never happened before. Maybe they figured out the process. Hope it will stay this way. The Christmas decorations was a big plus too.
Елена Я — Google review
The terminals are a little confusing, but after a bit of wandering around you usually find what you’re looking for. The food options are okay—nothing amazing, nothing terrible. You can get a sandwich or a coffee that tastes roughly like coffee, and that’s pretty much all you need before a flight anyway. Security lines can be long, or sometimes surprisingly short. It’s kind of a coin toss.
Savannahkhay — Google review
The Experiment: I deliberately chose to fly out of EWR specifically to experience firsthand if the "bad reputation" was true. Unfortunately, it lived up to the negative hype. The Commute (The "Hassle"): Getting to the gate is a multi-leg workout. I took the train to the Airport Station, but that doesn't get you to the terminal. You then have to transfer (often involving a shuttle or the AirTrain) just to reach the actual check-in area. It involves a lot of hustle and lugging bags around; it is far from a seamless transfer. Security Experience: The friction continued at the checkpoint. The TSA agents here were not nice, displaying an unfriendly and unprofessional demeanor. On top of the attitude, the processing was slow, adding unnecessary stress to the departure process. Verdict: If you have a choice between NYC area airports, keep the "hustle factor" in mind here. It is not a relaxing way to start a trip. Note for your followers: If you were flying out of the new Terminal A, that "shuttle" leg is a known pain point because the AirTrain doesn't connect directly to it!

Park
Weequahic Park, named after the Lenape word for "head of the cove," is a sprawling 311.33-acre public park in Newark's South Ward. It features a large lake, a golf course, running tracks, trails, and athletic fields. The park's lake served as a boundary line between Native American tribes in the past. Visitors can enjoy walking or jogging on the 2.2-mile paved trail around the lake and explore various historic districts nearby.
It's a very big park that from what I see certain areas are kept very nice And others places visitors just throw their garbage out of the cars. I rescued a cat that someone threw out of their car. And my girlfriend and I will put gloves on and pick up some of the garbage because it's too nice of a place to have people not care about it. You see some trucks go onto the grass and tear it up with their all terrain tires. It's really sad to see things like this in a park in the middle of Newark.

Sports complex w/ multiple fields. Walking path with awesome views of the water and nature. Nice spot for fishing and birding but No pets!! Exercise trail. Gave it a four because there was some litter on the ground. Will definitely visit again.
Kenoa A — Google review
It is a really beautiful trail around the Weequahic Lake, about 2 miles, no pet. If you visit here in fall, you would like to come back. Squirrels are everywhere looking for food without being disturbed by people passing by, sometimes you can hear their voices.

This place is cool but I only have one concern In the kids park the have a big slide and on the top from the slide one part is open and usually kids start fighting or it gets really full of kids and accidents can happen and a kid can fall from this, I wish I could post a video of the kids so you can see the danger, I think that part should be close

Soul food restaurant
Vonda's Kitchen is a laid-back neighborhood spot in Newark, owned by Vonda McPherson, who aimed to put a healthy twist on traditional Southern comfort food. The restaurant offers generous portions of classic dishes that are lighter and healthier than the usual fare. Customers praise the consistent quality and diverse menu, with favorites like blackened catfish and grits and shrimp and grits. Vonda is known for her dedication to customer satisfaction.
Party of 2 in the morning on a weekday. Firstly, entering the restaurant, some substance was on the ground directly outside the door, making it a bit sticky/slippery. I suspect it was oil, but the floor inside was much better. Upon entering, the host greeted us and prompted us to sit anywhere we pleased. Unfortunately, I no longer remember her name, but the host was knowledgeable and friendly throughout our experience, often checking in on us + other guests. We had the spicy chicken hash, eggs, grits, home fries, and toast for our meals. Everything was good, and I definitely would recommend the chicken hash. As we left, we bumped into another employee who asked how the meal was and if we needed anything else. After she introduced herself as Vonda, the owner. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, and I will be returning.

I was hesitant because this was my first time placing an order for my family from this establishment. And it turns out that my intuition was correct. Have you all seen the price? In my view, the food's flavor did not justify the sum I spent. To give you an example, I requested fried eggs when I clicked the special instructions, but they came out scrambled. The scrambled eggs were too watery for my taste. If I could rate the home fries it would be a rating of 5/10. Because it maintained its crunchiness during transportation, the catfish would get a 6 out of 10 from me even though it was flavorless. A pinch of salt and some garlic would have made the grits perfect. You won't get your money's worth out of that chicken and waffle. The fried chicken turned out rather pale. Plus, my brother couldn't eat it since it was bland. Hot sauce was a must for his chicken for him to be able to eat it. The so-called signature French toast was meant to be topped with walnuts, but I didn't receive any. Plus, at $17, it seemed like a waste of money for something I could easily whip up at home. I took full responsibility for choosing this location, but I will definitely not make that mistake again.

I've recently discovered Vonda's. Parking is fairly easy on a weekday. The establishment is nice. It's spacious and usually no waiting for a table. The artwork on the walls are really nice. The French toast is wonderful!!!! Kudos to the chef!!!! Will definitely return for more. Update: I am a regular here and will usually visit for lunch or dinner. The Catfish (baked) is spectacular!!! My sides were mac and cheese / collard greens. My guest had the baked chicken! Delicious meal!!!

Ok so I ordered the brioche French toast from this place the other morning . I was literally in utter disbelief when I realized that they have me a burger bun cut up as French toast. When I had looked through the reviews before going I seen people with triangular French toast with powder sugar etc . The service was ok it was early in the morning so I understand that the mood wasn’t a 10/10 . But the picture alone will speaks for itself . The portion was way too small for the price of $17. The food was also rock hard and not hot enough.

Have been coming here for years! Just not so often. But every time I came, the food was smashing! Not sure how everyone cooks their greens but theirs taste as if someone used old bay and I didn’t really like it. Fried catfish was great, yams were sweet and the Mac n cheese was good

The park features lighted softball diamonds, a soccer field, a hockey rink, playgrounds, and a gazebo. Designed by Olmsted, it offers basketball courts and walking trails for visitors to enjoy. In addition to athletic fields, the park also has seating areas for tired parents and even a spray device to cool off during the summer months.

I love bringing my daughter here. I went to East side high school so it’s a treat bringing her here.. we stay for hours..food trucks and ice cream trucks are all around..they have a zip line for children (teenagers break it a lot so it’s often out of service 😡). Lots of playground equipment. One of our favorite playgrounds to visit.
Nellie F — Google review
Our kids and I often spend hours at church (especially holidays) as my hubby works nearby. I cantor whenever possible. The kids are still young, so we love to go here in between and/or during multiple services. This is one of the most fun parks we have been to in NJ. In the summer they even have a spray device you can walk through to cool off! There is very adequate seating on benches for tired parents. Plus, only one exit in and out, which makes it easier to relax as you can keep a close eye on the kiddos. I will warn, the ground surface material gets burning hot in summer (you can feel it through thinner shoes). Also, some older kids will absolutely run into you and/or your child(ren), so if they are quite young, please accompany in areas to keep them safe. There is often plenty of room for an adult to follow and play along with their tiny kiddo. Heads up, you also may get hit by a soccer ball or frisbee! Lol. If it weren't for these reasons, this rating would be a 5, no doubt. Overall, we still love the variety of activities and the vibe here (so long as there aren't wayy too many people). An icecream truck is usually nearby, so bring cash! In the summer, sweet ladies often sell water ice for a great price too! This area feels like a very safe place despite Newark's reputation, because it is! May you and your kiddos have great fun here!!

It is kind of loud inside. That's my one complaint. But the staff are all so nice and friendly, and the food is terrific. We got a great table in the corner by the window and were asked for drinks almost immediately. My friend had the chicken Alfredo pasta and I had the grilled sea ray special. It was my first time ever trying it and, well it was an experience. If I am ever in the area again this is where I would go every single time. Excellent!

Great dinner spot. We were a party of 8 - ordered 8 entrees, one app, two pitchers of sangria and it was only ~40 per person! So many great flavors. I would 100% recommend this place - I think it’s better If you have more people and can more variety of dishes. Side note place is pretty busy for dinner. Overall 8/10

Qdoba is like the better version of Chipotle. The vegetables seem fresher, there's more options (like queso), and the biggest difference is that the meat is cleaned (no unedible fatty/cartilage chicken pieces like Chipotle). Love the place

I'll be honest, Qdoba isy.runner up to Chipotle and I'll only get it if there isn't a Chipotle available... The burrito was good, nothing over the top but also nothing bad, I enjoyed it! The chips, on the other hand, were a disappointment. There was absolutely no flavor and a few of them were stale. Over all, I'll eat at a Qdoba again, if there isn't a Chipotle near by!

The worst experience in my life. I love Qdoba and this is my choice location. Since it is my local Qdoba, I'm here at least once a month, and the staff is always so friendly! We came at 9 to grab dinner while in town for an event. We all had the stuffed sole specials. Originally one of our party ordered swordfish but the kitchen ran out. It took them 45 minutes to tell us this so it took over hour to get the food. We were the last people to leave the restaurant. The food was good. But not so good to make up for that really long wait.

Went to a friends sweet 16 birthday party here and the setup was really nice. Thank goodness it was on a Sunday because parking would have been tough. We were on the second floor. Tables were set up according to the number in the party which we had about 20. One thing that was annoying was another party that was there was very loud. I mean laughing and talking as if they were they only ones there. It would have been nice if they asked them to calm down a bit but nope we had to deal with it until they left. The food was really good. No one at our table had problems or complaints. We ordered a pitcher of red and white sangria. Neither tasted flavorful like a sangria should be to me. Maybe they put to much ice 🤷🏾‍♀️. Overall a great place to eat and I do plan to return.

Marcus B&P is a relaxed spot by Marcus Samuelsson that offers updated comfort fare and features a bar. The restaurant's deviled eggs and cornbread are highly recommended, with the appetizers being particularly strong. Some standout dishes include the oxtail pizza and ragu, as well as the roasted corn chowder. The southern breakfast is also praised for its delicious chicken sausage, eggs, potatoes, and biscuits.
Great food, I had the Oxtail Ragu and it did not disappoint. I also grabbed a side of Mac and cheese. I was impressed which is saying something because as a rule I don't care for restaurant Mac and Cheese. Somehow restaurants always manage to mess it up for me. Y'all did a great job. I also treated myself to the brownie and ice cream. It wasn't my cup of tea, but I'll give it a 10 because it was quality and really creative to the pallet. Things guys I'll be back.

I have been here 4 times in the last month. I have had the southern breakfast which comes with chicken sausage, eggs, potatoes, and the best biscuit (next to my mama's) I've ever had. The photos do these dishes very little justice. Each dish posted, are very different with very different tastes. And still each one is so DELICIOUS 😋. I love this place. She their Cosmopolitans. 🍸😊 Yes, the food is absolutely wonderfully delicious. But the place itself has a whole vibe and displays plenty of art, diversity and culture throughout the restaurant. If I were to recommend anything on your first, second, even third visit would be to try the chicken and cornbread waffles. As you can see in the pictures, it will not and does not disappoint. On my next visit, maybe I'll have the shrimp and grits. I'll keep you posted.

I had the opportunity to finally visit this restaurant after passing by several times while shopping at Whole Foods (which is just around the corner) with my college-bound twins. It was an early Father’s Day dinner. The food, in my opinion, was good and my son agreed. He even mentioned he would like to return. However, my daughter became emotional during dinner. So, she did not have much to say about the meal, except that she did not enjoy the deviled eggs. On the other hand, I personally enjoyed them. We had a great experience visiting the Red Rooster in Harlem a few years ago and it was evident that the neighborhood community fully supports the restaurant. Thus, for this place located in downtown Newark, it might take the additional support from the surrounding business community to make it a long lasting go-to spot in the area. Nonetheless, I plan to visit again in order to gain a better perspective on the overall experience.

The girls and I got together for food and drinks here. I been here a long time ago before and was looking forward to it. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and found my table. The place is super cute! We were served by Kioni, and she was great. I started with the lemon drop martini drink, and it was good. For my meal I got the mussels and it was delicious. The girls really enjoyed their meals and they looked so good. The bill was very affordable, and I definitely enjoyed my time!

Went with my husband last night and we really enjoyed it. Every bite was delicious! We had the grilled salmon with watermelon salad and the chicken and waffle. Everything had so much flavor and texture. To drink, we enjoyed a lychee martini and an espresso martini. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be coming back!

What a delight!! I’m so glad I came here. The deviled eggs are absolutely addictive. I could easily eat 3 orders in one sitting. The cornbread is probably even better!! You will not want to share. The appetizers are pretty strong and I could easily just come for apps and drinks. I had the oxtail pizza. It was okay but paled in comparison to the deviled eggs and cornbread. My friend who had the ragu raved about it. I also had the roasted corn (which I thought would be whole but was more of a chowder fyi). The corn was good and so were the fries but both were a little heavy on the salt. Overall a good experience. At the very least you must go for the cornbread and deviled eggs!! I will probably be back to try the ragu.

Experienced the sexiest, tastiest, seasoned waffle fry I’ve encountered in all of my life, to complement an equally tasty ‘Yard Bird’ Sandwich (Not pictured since I was so consumed with eating them). Staff was attentive and atmosphere very welcoming. Prices are surprisingly affordable. Will be back and most definitely would recommend. Good news, I was back and it was better. 10/10 would recommend. 🙂

Nice atmosphere, great food, great service. The place is simply but elegantly decorated with high ceillings and a lot of light. The food was simple but creative and everything was cooked to perfection and extremely fresh. There is in most dishes an elegant balance between the textures ( smooth, creamy, soft opposed to crispy), of flavor (bitterness opposed to sweetness). The wine list is adequate with a good choice of bottles and wine by the glass. The cocktails may look simple but they are crafted to perfection. The service is outstanding, attentive, diligent bit at the same time relaxed and making you feel at home. A brilliant gem of a restaurant.
