Alaska State Fair Inc, held annually in Palmer, offers a diverse range of attractions and activities for both locals and tourists. The event features concerts, carnivals, exhibits, and competitions showcasing the largest vegetables and finest livestock in the state. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Chugach Range, this week-long fair typically kicks off at the end of August. Families can indulge in classic fair experiences such as delicious food, thrilling rides, and entertaining games.
The Alaskan fair is likely the best state fair I have been to. It is different in that "exhibitors" are outside in their own storefront sheds (no tents in this town). Not as many animals as you would see in other state fairs in the lower 48. Lots and lots of crafts, arts, and such... Likely they have lots of time on their hands in the dark months. Really enjoyed it, perfect temp and luckily, no rain.
John F — Google review
I love the fair, my family loves the fair. Two weeks every year where people come together from all over the state to celebrate each other have fun eat cotton candy and ride rides. Every year they bring up singers and artists who share their talents with us all. In the 80's I remember seeing the beach boys and Hobo Jim may he rest in peace what a treasure! Parking has always been hell, to be fair hehe you are just parking in a field. Was triple parked in once that was a logistical nightmare. The mud puddles and plain and wind just make it all the more exciting. If you haven't been to the fair you are truly missing out on one of the best adventures Alaska has to offer. My dad passed this may and his favorite thing to eat was a buffalo burger and a pork chop on a stick and he always always walked through the animals and farm stuff and he loved the giant produce. I'm sharing photos from 2019 I think it was the last fair my dad was able to go to. I have so many wonderful memories of the fair with my family.
KerstenSafford A — Google review
My favorite time of year. Tons of shops, tons of food, tons of rides! Excellent for the whole family. Easier to get around when it’s a weekday. This place is mostly elbow to elbow packed!
Michael — Google review
I gave it 3 stars, because even though we enjoyed the fair itself the over 2 mile line wait just to park was terribly tiring! Lots of the vegetables and some of the flowers on display were wilted and the Pumpkins were not on display. The cost just to get in for two people was over $30 at the gate. We definitely won't ever go back on a weekend, if ever! Crab Shack Crab cakes were good, but don't waste money on the grilled Scallops.
Sheila J — Google review
Great coincidence while visiting Anchorage before our cruise tour. The fair is on with a rodeo. What an awesome discovery. This place was so incredibly busy, but everything flowed so easily.
Ron T — Google review
The Alaska State Fair is definitely very fun for everyone. I go every year and I have a really great time! Bring CASH for everything, as many places do not take cards, CASH IS KING! There's a great atmosphere with lots of fun rides and good food.
Ben H — Google review
Went to see the monster truck show, it was great. Our 2 year old loved it. There was a petting zoo, pony ride, and fire truck to look at. More stands than you could dream of, and rides for all ages. Helicopter ride looked awesome! For a family with a toddler is was the best day we could have asked for. Premier Parking is worth the price! You never have to leave the grounds and it's a short walk to your car for anything you need. Highly reccomend! We plan to go again.
Andrew M — Google review
There is NO lower 48 state fair that compares to THIS fair! I plan my annual trip to Alaska to make sure I can attend this every year. Why settle for corn dogs when you can be eating Alaskan king crab??? Fish On! Camp Grill is the vendor to visit. The entire family/crew was amazing! The food, worth a dedicated trip from Kentucky! If you're planning a trip to Alaska, plan for the state fair, and stop by Fish On! Camp Grill.

The Noisy Goose is a family-owned eatery offering a wide selection of classic American dishes in a cozy environment. With its elegant ambiance, this restaurant boasts an extensive menu of delectable American cuisines that are sure to satisfy any palate. If you're searching for a place to bring your family and indulge in authentic American flavors, The Noisy Goose is the perfect choice. Their expert chefs meticulously prepare each meal using fresh ingredients sourced specifically for their superior taste.
The efficiency of the service was truly remarkable, exceeding all expectations. The speed at which the food arrived was astonishing and delightful. Even if I wanted to lick my plate clean, there was no time they were so fast. The server's humor added such a pleasant touch to the experience. Their attentiveness and positive demeanor was just a breath of fresh air. You will also never run out of coffee, I was asked about 10 times if I needed a refill and that was amazing. Overall, it was a remarkably positive dining experience and I will 100% return.
Amanda F — Google review
The food was delicious and the service was extraordinary! We were a family of 5 and ordered chicken fried steak, meat loaf, Philly wrap, Wedding Soup and a child’s plate of pancakes. No one was disappointed. Everything was hot and well seasoned. We ordered two slices of pie to go - another tough choice from all the pies available. I highly recommend The Noisy Goose if passing through Palmer.
Gloria M — Google review
Average breakfast food, nothing spectacular. The reindeer sausage was super tough and hard to eat. The salmon was good though. The decor was nice and homey, lots of signs on the wall and a giant bear in the entry way. If I was back in the area I would try other breakfast spots before eating here again.
John R — Google review
I have been to noisy goose a total of 5 times I believe and when I tell you this place has restored my faith in humanity I truly mean it. For starters the food is incredible. Today I got the pancakes with strawberries on them and this was the first time I ever finished a plate of pancakes, they were that incredible. Then the service I have never been happier with from anywhere else. Today the server was especially nice. I never caught her name but she was a young woman with dark straightened hair and Roman numerals tattooed around where her collar bones were. She was so kind and had soft friendly demeanor that just made the whole experience even better. And finally the atmosphere was and always is incredible, this place has a unique was of feeling homey even when is extremely busy. It feels warm and welcoming always, and truly is amazing. As someone who has only lived in Alaska for around a year now I was sad to leave my home town, it was small and homey something I thought I’d loose but the noisy goose makes me feel like I’m back home. 10/10 I recommend this place and thank you to the wonderful severs, staff, and owners who make this place the incredible place it is.

My husband and I ate here 2 days ago. We split a dish of deep fried halibut with sides. The restaurant was busy and it took about 15 minutes to be seated. But it was a pleasure for sure.
Rebecca C — Google review
Best breakfast in the valley! There's always a wait, but its always worth it! The servers are really friendly, and really fast - The CF Steak & Eggs is my go too, but we've never been disappointed with anything we've ordered. I really love the fact that you can sub French Toast for toast - that's awesome!
Sharolyn W — Google review
I had halibut chunks with excellent coleslaw and I would have included a picture of the homemade apple pie but I was so excited when I saw it I started eating it right away. It was delicious. This service was stellar!! And on top of that the view that I had of the mountains was incredible with a 70° day ☺️

The food was 👌🏽, the service was pleasant 😊 and the story/essay to get the conversation started was the best. If you don’t know what I am talking about just go, ask about the goose dance and order some hashbrowns.

Nestled in the charming downtown of Palmer, Alaska, Poppy Lane Mercantile is a delightful gift shop that beckons visitors with its eclectic array of goods sourced from various vendors. This quaint store offers everything from stylish clothing to unique home decor and Alaskan-themed treasures, making it a perfect stop for both tourists and locals alike. The atmosphere is inviting, filled with vibrant colors and intriguing pieces just waiting to be discovered in every corner.
What a nice multifaceted shop. Several vendors of fine, fun household goods, gifts and clothing. There is also a consignment shop upstairs with lightly pre owned, name brand items. Nothing like BNWT that fits perfectly! Events with prizes on the first Friday too!

Amazing customer service. I live in Anchorage and was visiting Palmer and I found a pair of sunglasses here that I absolutely loved and didn't buy them at the time but when I came back to Anchorage decided I really wanted them so I called the store and the employee , Kylee, who answered went above and beyond to take several photos of different styles to help me find the one I liked and then was able to set them aside for my boyfriend to pick up when he was in Palmer. Aside from that they have the most unique and local made stuff around I could spend hours looking around in here highly recommend

Great gift shop with many typical tourist items like t-shirts and sweatshirts, but also a lot of “spa” like items and potions and lotions and notions. The variety is a 5 and it’s nice to have a coffee shop upstairs, but I thought the prices were a bit high so I only gave this 4 stars! VictorB

When in Palmer, don't miss out on the lively atmosphere and great drinks at The Palmer Bar and Grill. This popular local spot is perfect for unwinding with its selection of cocktails and local beers. It's known for its tasty burgers, including the teriyaki burger and bacon bleu burger, as well as homemade clam chowder on Wednesdays. The friendly service adds to the small-town Alaska vibe, making it a must-visit while in town.
This place did not disappoint. We had the deep fried Churros which melted in your mouth and their burgers were such great portions, that we left stuffed. The staff were extremely friendly and they also had a great beer selection as well. We will definitely go back. I highly recommend this place.
Sandy — Google review
My second day in a row eating here primarily for the wings and Twister Creek on tap. Absolutely fantastic service both times. Shae (not sure about the spelling) was fantastic despite my dining companion messing with her by being obstinate about his outside beverage. Chris was my server on my second visit and he was as warm and convivial as Arthur Bucco! Great service all around.
Joel G — Google review
the new owners are from the double musky and the food is FABULOUS. really some of the best wings that i’ve had in my whole life. ask the server what spice rub to recommended — ours was perfectly seasoned and spicy. we got the burger too and ate it so fast i forgot to take a photo. the atmosphere hasn’t changed barely at all with the new owners tho and that’s important for the locals that frequent here. there’s a full bar, obviously, but they make great mocktails too. you can come in and sit at the bar or there are tables.
Mimi — Google review
Got a recommendation from a local to try the food here. We've bypassed this place several times in the past as it didn't look like the type of place for a couple of oldies like us. But so glad we took the recommendation and tried the food. Thee best burgers in the valley, by far! Wings were good as well. And a very good beer selection. We'll definitely be patronizing this place again.
Jimmer — Google review
We had a fantastic lunch here. Burgers and onion rings were both delicious. Alaskan craft beers were reasonably priced with a good selection. Chris was our server and he took great care of us. The churros are delicious, filled with cream cheese and served with a berry compote and whipped cream.

Love love love this place! If you're looking for a dive bar with great burgers and a selection of local beers, this place is definitely worth a visit. You'll get to enjoy tasty burgers and support local breweries at the same time. My suggestions are the teriyaki burger and bacon bleu burger.

I don’t like bars or eating out because I don’t like people cooking me food unless they are friends or family. However, this bar is the only place that I will go out to eat. You can look over and see all the alcohol that’s at the bar and watch the person who’s bar tending pour your alcohol. You can also watch the cooks cook your food and literally walk in their area if you wanted to but of course you’d get in trouble. All the cooks went to school for cooking and have their food handlers card so my friend who used to work there told me. Also it’s CLEAN! I tried rubbing my hands and fingers on the table that we were sitting at and I didn’t get any dirt or anything on my hands. I’m not sure but I believe floors are cleaned regularly? I think they looked hella clean. Overall a great really place. Mushroom Swiss Cheese burger was amazing the two (?) times that I’ve got it here. I got tots with it too and water, I believe it was $21 dollars in total, I didn’t pay this time, the person I was with got one too with fries and lemonade. I didn’t see the check so I would say around $42 for two people to eat at the bar. Well worth the money though.

Chelsea was amazing, my first time there. I ordered a burger that I did not enjoyed and she comped the meal that no one ever does anymore. I would go back!

A trip to Palmer wouldn't be complete without a stop at the Palmer Visitor Information Center, conveniently situated in the heart of downtown. Visitors can explore fascinating exhibits that highlight local indigenous cultures like the Ahtna and Denaina people, alongside displays about agricultural development and significant historical projects like the Matanuska Colony Project from 1935.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed my experience. The gift shop is mostly local and stuff worth buying. Nice history with artifacts. The garden is beautiful. They harvested some rhubarb for me. 😍 The staff was happy to talk and explain anything and everything. They have a guided 1.5 hour walking tour at 9am but you can do a self-guided tour with a headset and a map anytime you want. They give great recommendations on what to see and eat.

Klondike Mike's, a bar and grill establishment, hosted an eventful 21st birthday celebration. The ambiance was enjoyable with friendly patrons and satisfactory beverages. Although the venue had an unpretentious atmosphere, the quality of food and service surpassed expectations during a Sunday afternoon visit. The menu featured delectable options like "Totchos" and pickle fries which were highly appetizing.
Great food, the Mexican Poutine was awesome(they call it Carne Asada Skillet Fries, but you can’t fool me). 34 oz beers reminded me of the Maß(1 liter) we used to get in Germany. Beer menu and regular menu in the pics. Little loud from the bar next door but always friendly service.

I ordered the carne asada burrito and it was probably the worst burrito I’ve ever eaten, but what can you say it’s Mexican food in Palmer… funny thing is that they confirmed the meat in my burrito was “carne asada” I’m not sure they actually know what type of steak they need to use or how to marinate the meat…. Omg

Clean fast friendly service! Very good food. Wasn't a fan of the rice but that's okay everything else was scrumptious! We had tacos mini chimis chips and salsa guacamole(was good big chunks) and pollo fundito for the three of us came home with plenty for lunch the next day!

Visiting from Fairbanks and this was a gem. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious! Enjoyed the banter with our server and the jalapeno margaritas were delicious! The cook was great! Appreciated this at the end of a long day from being outside. If I am back in town from Fairbanks will be stopping here again!

Went today while two ladies were running basically the entire place (plus the awesome guy in the kitchen) and they absolutely killed it! The food was fantastic, the gals were super busy and did an awesome job taking care of everyone! I will recommend this place to everyone I know, it was awesome! So glad I stopped by!
Lexi L — Google review
It’s a bar, with a condensed menu from a Mexican restaurant. The waitresses were super busy; the place was understaffed. Management needs to better manage that. The kitchen forgot to make an entire meal for our table. They forgot to make an appetizer and a meal from the table next to us. No fault of the waitresses because they were short staffed, but we waited an incredibly long time between them coming to the table. We had been done eating for 30 minutes before she came back to check on us. Multiple people from our group had to go to the bar to ask her for whatever it was we needed (drinks, food that was ordered, the check, to-go boxes). The waitresses were phenomenal, the food was so-so, the place is a dirty bar. Overall, I would NOT go back for food. It used to be wonderful for food and we would bring the whole family. Not sure what happened but it has gone way downhill.

Sunrise Grill is a popular spot known for its delicious breakfast and friendly staff. The omelette, stuffed with sausage and cheese, is a standout dish, served alongside generous portions of pancakes. The hot turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce and soup is also highly recommended. Regulars appreciate the quick service and accommodating nature of the restaurant, which offers options for various dietary restrictions. A recent family brunch was enjoyable, offering good food and ample space for large groups.
Located inside the Eagle Spot Hotel, Sunrise Grill is a must visit spot for breakfast lovers. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, thanks in part to the friendly waitress who makes sure you're well taken care of. The French toast and Eggs Benedict are standout dishes, offering a perfect blend of flavors and textures that make each bite delightful. For those with a hearty appetite, the Hungry Man’s Breakfast comes highly recommended—it's a satisfying and generous option that won’t disappoint. Overall, Sunrise Grill is a great spot to start your day on a delicious note.

Great breakfast spot. Everything was cooked perfectly and decent size portions but I did leave full. Really liked the bacon.

Breakfast looked good but did not taste good, scrambled eggs were very runny and undercooked. The Eggs Benedict has ham with a sweet spoiled taste and I was unable to eat it and felt nauseous. Wait and bus staff were very friendly and nice. The cook does not cook well at all. We should have stuck with biscuits and gravy. There were small children running and screaming while we were there

This is my first 1 star review. Be prepared to wait about 50min for your food, nothing special just some eggs and burgers. I felt bad for the people who worked here they look like they were very short staffed. I have to say staffs were very nice. The burger was supposed to come with a soup which we never got. We asked for no mayo and there was mayo on the burger.

The food was really good when I first moved here. My husband and I raved about this place. But some where down the line the food quality and taste has diminished. The service is not what it use to be ans im not sure if its because of new people. But the people are always nice.

Fast food restaurant
Wendy's, a fast-food burger chain, recently underwent a remodel in Palmer. The wait time to place a to-go order was minimal. The food ordered was incredibly fresh and incredibly tasty! For those seeking a quick meal or a sit-down option that is both hot and reasonably priced, Wendy's is worth checking out. The staff members were exceptionally polite, amiable, and skilled in their roles.
The Wendy's in Palmer is ok. Clean, staff somewhat Attentive, they do okay. Seems like it could have a little more adult supervision over the teenagers that worked there. great place, good food.
Rosey R — Google review
I've been to this Wendy's two times, once in the drive thru and again when I walked inside to order. The staff all seems new, which is OK you know, everyone has to learn the job before they become proficient, but I had to wait over 20 minutes both times for the food which seemed very excessive even for an undertrained staff. They were, however, extremely polite and professional when dealing with customers.
Sean P — Google review
After sitting ten minutes at the window waiting for my order, no one came to let me know what the holdup was. There was no ‘Welcome to Wendy’s may I take your order” or anything else. 3 male employees were milling around inside and each of them saw me waiting but offered no greeting or explanation at all. Just blatantly ignored us. I was then charged for my order and given the wrong receipt. There was no one eating inside and no other cars ahead of us. Vehicles were now piling up behind us. Once our bag (2 burgers, 1 fry) was finally handed thru the window I had to remind them for my drink. Opening our bag a bit later we discovered our fries were cold and our burgers drenched in some kind of gooey matchup/mayonnaise/mustard goop. Total mess to try to eat. Then I happily discovered no paper napkins anywhere in the bag. Total time spent here:15 minutes. Hadn’t been to this Wendy’s in almost a year. This visit reminded me why. Miserable experience.

Slowest fast food place I've ever been to. I waited 50 minutes in the drive through with only TWO cars ahead of me! I've been through the drive through and inside. The cooks just stand around not preparing anything.

Absolutely terrible service. Instead of taking orders as people pull up. They take two and wait until those people are completely served then help the next. It leads to long wait times. They ignore the people in line as long as possible. They yell so loud into the speaker it's crazy... just left sands food after such rude service

We placed a mobile order before even arriving. We arrive maybe 10 minutes later. We then tried to grab condiments, as in ketchup. Out. My husband almost slipped on...something greasy all over the floor. "Angelica" (name on the receipt, maybe not the name of this girl taking orders) didn't say hello, didn't ask if she could help us as we just stood there. For 30 minutes. She was rude and elderly lady ordering food in the meantime. Went to go get a refund and was told that our food was already ready. It wasn't. It was missing multiple items while the bag was grease soaked from sitting on the counter for who knows how long. If I had to guess, the front counter girl ( dark hair, glasses) was having a bad day and decided to take it out on your customers. But, alas, the boy making food was obviously in NO hurry to do anything, idk, maybe he was stoned, which, ok, but damn.

Absolutely the worse drive threw experience ever we waited in line for 45 mins for 2 frostys and 1 meal and they didn’t even give us the right frostys😭 it wasn’t even worth the complaint at that point I will not be coming back here anytime soon. On top of that the person taking our order in the drive threw is rude as hell!! Such a waste of time and money for what we received

I mean…I just think if it’s going to be a 45 minute wait at a fast food place even though there’s really no one else in the store someone should give you a heads up so you can make a choice that’s best for you and your family…And maybe make your food right after the wait.
