The National Mustard Museum in Middleton, just a short drive from downtown Madison, is a quirky and unique attraction celebrating the history of this beloved condiment. With over 6,200 mustards from around the world on display, visitors can explore the diverse flavors at the tasting bar and browse through mustard-related exhibits and artifacts. Founded by Barry Levenson in 1992, this museum offers an extensive collection of mustards along with memorabilia and artwork dedicated to this flavorful staple.
This place is so dang cool. History of mustard. They have so many different mustards here from all over the world and in each state in America. Such a cool little place and it was free. They did have where you can donate to the very cool museum. The staff working there and in the store are just so very nice and informative. The store is neat as well being they have so many different types of mustard to buy. Bonus you can taste over hundred and fifty different kinds of mustards. I bought some Honey Raspberry Mustard and it is so tasty that I am going back to buy more.

Great little stop that is packed with information about mustard. All the stuff you wanted to know and all the stuff you didn’t know you wanted to know. Like, did you know the Egyptians buried their dead with mustard seeds? Sounds like a great idea. Also, go to the store and try a bunch of different kinds of mustard. Did you think that one was a little too heavy on the dill? They will suggest a different one. Are you a yellow mustard lover? They have a specific mustard they will suggest for you. I personally bought five different kinds of mustard.
Brenda P — Google review
Great little FREE museum to find out more than you ever needed to know about mustard! Did you know there used to be a thing called mustard baths that were supposed to make you feel divine? Also, there is a mini theater that shows you the process and history of mustard. Finally, at the end of your visit there is a taste testing station with hundreds of different flavors and varieties! Even a mustard hater will find one they like!
FunThings F — Google review
Mustard Museum is a surprisingly fun stop. It's free to enter and packed with unique mustard history and memorabilia. There is a free tasting bar where you can sample dozens of mustards—from mild to wild. Great gift shop with every mustard imaginable.
Asiri B — Google review
The little town of Middleton, Wisconsin has an off the beaten track museum that’s really interesting; The National Mustard Museum! Started on 1982, the museum is located downtown and houses a collection of over 6,000 mustards from all 50 states and a whopping 70 countries! It’s free admission and it’s a really neat informational place to see different types of mustard seed all the way to a prepared condiment. Plus all the paraphernalia supplies that go along with serving it. The store has 1,000’s of mustards for sale but thankfully they have them categorized and each country even has its own shelf. They made it fun by having a large tasting station in the rear of the store that has over 100 mustards ready to taste. We had a lot of fun tasting and settled on a mutatde’ (French) whereby the original recipe dates back to 1760. It’s still sold the same way- in a ceramic jar sealed with wax. Also a Japanese hot mustard and a couple others. They have an online store which will be great to order gifts and more mustard. It’s a fun place and believe me, the mustards are all amazing!
Michelle F — Google review
A very cute museum. Small but jam packed full of information about mustard! You have to appreciate all the little quirks and jokes inside the museum. That reminds me, the museum is downstairs - I don't remember seeing if there was an elevator, which may prove a challenge for folks with physical disabilities. You can spend up to one, one and a half hours here if you stop and read every placard the way I was. Very small museum, but admission is free. Donations appreciated. The best part was the mustard tasting upstairs. Shopping for mustard was great. Parking is free. Beautiful fountain outside.
Kiki 6 — Google review
Free admission, and yes I was surprised at first that there's a mustard museum, but it makes sense since there are so many different flavors possible. The museum displays are downstairs and the gift shop and tasting area are on the first floor. There are tons of different mustards to choose from, and it's hard to know which ones to sample since you're basically going by jar labels and the taste can't always be captured by the words. We spent a long time trying different samples to decide which ones to take home (staff was patient and helpful). The sampling isn't self-serve so they give you a small scoop on a disposable spoon for each one you want to try. Came home with a few bottles of different flavors
Sarah R — Google review
This kitchy, quirky museum was a large bit of fun for this mustard lover. The museum itself was small, but packed full of fun facts about mustard from its history to its making. But the highlight of the experience was the gift shop. Be sure to ask to try any (or all) of the 106 mustards they have available for sampling. There are many more choices than that along with some fun merch to buy. Even better? The entire event is free. What are you waiting for?

The menu features farm-to-table dishes such as salads, sandwiches, burgers, and specials like fish fry. With two bars available, patrons can enjoy a wide selection of beer, wine, cocktails, and whiskey while watching a game or socializing with friends.
Cool spot with a good tap list and tasty food. The Pesto Cavatappi was fantastic. Good Korean fried chicken sandwich, smash burgers, and waffle fries, as well. We also discovered the little upstairs lounge on this visit!

We stopped by The Free House and got an outside table for dinner on Friday night. We had a good smash burger and a cod plate. The food was very good and the outside seating was also very good. As with a lot of restaurants, they seemed short staffed, with the staff apologizing for the delays. All in all a great experience, we will definitely go back to try them again.
Jim B — Google review
Quaint pub-style restaurant with a large selection of outdoor seating options and a great variety of meal options to fit a variety of tastes and dietary needs. This restaurant is a perfect option for a group diverse group of friends- there are plenty of classic pub style classics alongside salads, pastas, sandwiches and plant-based protein choices. Our service was excellent and the food came out promptly. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I especially enjoyed my Teriyaki Chicken & Rice bowl. It offered a great variety of savory and sweet flavor profile. There is free street parking available.
Grace M — Google review
Service felt slow, compared to the low number of patrons. The seating space outside of the main bar was very loud and echoed a lot. Food took a while to get to the table, but it was good.
Tammy B — Google review
Great lunch experience with a client! The food came out quickly and was reasonably priced.

What the ?!?!?!?! 2 people, basic fish fry, over an hour to get the food AFTER ordering. Nope. It's not that good. No apologies from them either. There's five other good places a stones throw from here.... this was bad

Keaton was a great bartender, bbq chicken sandwich special hit the spot, draft list was solid, good vibe even on a rainy Monday night. Glad I stopped in.

We stumbled in here based on a previous review and we’re so glad we did. Fabulous ambiance and super chill vibe. The people working at the Free House are very nice and knowledgeable about the menu and the drinks. The mustard flight as a shareable was creative and very fun. Colleen was our server and she was absolutely phenomenal. We will go here again next time we visit family in Wisconsin!

Quarry Skate Park

Skatepark
This is a great park with plenty to do for beginner and intermediate skaters. The vast majority is concrete with a few shorter flat rails. Both I and my 7-year-old had a lot of fun and will definitely be going back.
Brock D — Google review
Not too shabby at all, but tons of sticks, debris and huge puddles definitely show the park’s lack of maintenance and all around it’s beginning to show its age. I disagree with many reviews here on the transitions, they were really mellow and one of my kids basically mastered dropping in here where he hadn’t been able to do so easily before. Everything is a little too spread out, so the smaller drop ins don’t send you for the pyramid, for example, but it’s still a fun park and as I always like to mention, we didn’t have this kind of stuff growing up in the 90s so thankful for what we get these days! Nobody here at all on a June summer Thursday afternoon. Skated for over an hour and had the whole place to ourselves.
Nathan S — Google review
Wish they'd do something about the storm drains. However, it's a great place for fishermen to harvest worms for several weeks after a downpour.
Joel — Google review
Personally it could use some work but the rails are nice and low descent stair set run up could have been better, ramps are a little far apart but if your good at pumping you should be good
Sawyer L — Google review
Small and vertical, no speed, bad if you actually want to have a good time. Very sketchy.
Fishin B — Google review
This park has been here for a long time and is a fun little park with steep transitions and really smooth concrete for the most part (is a bit lumpy on the spine). The wall makes for a nice shady spot to find even during midday sun.
Eric N — Google review
the park is trash but there’s a somewhat decent flatbar. everything else is awkwardly sized. bring wax everything is sticky. the handrails are too low and tons of huge cracks. the transition is also awkward.
Trap G — Google review
I don't skate - the kid does - so sorry no specifics on that aspect. It seems like a nice park to me 🤷‍♀️ It's usually pretty well kept and in a nice area. I guess the only downside is it's a bit small for when it gets busy -

The brewery has won numerous awards over the past 30 years and is known for its traditional German-style lager beer. With a focus on sustainable practices, Capital Brewery provides fun experiences all year round, including live music in the beer garden from April through October.
Came to grab a quick beer between activities. Bier Garten was the only section only, but very relaxing in the shade, with some good music and a great selection of beer. Sat early PM stop recommended.
Tim — Google review
Excellent, knowledgeable bartender. I described what makes a beverage tasty. Sarah presented several samples, we narrowed it down to 3, creating the perfect triumvirate for a 90+degree afternoon.
Kathleen K — Google review
Capital is an old standard in Madison brewing. 15 of there beers on tap plus a seltzer and a couple guest taps. My last stop they had Munich dunkel, IPA, Pils, lager, amber, maibock, doppelbock, sour, NE IPA, barleywine, shandy, pumpkin, kellerbier, and some ciders. All the are good. They are clean, many crisp, and tasty. Their beers generally aren't thick, creamy but if you like dark beers like I do this should still be a place to stop. There tasting room has a lot of history and the service is very friendly. They have a ton of space for events especially in the summer I have attended several charity outings. I will come back again.
Adam D — Google review
Needed to kill some time and saw the people gathered so stopped in. Like their beer for sure and have had it at home. Didn’t know what to expect, thinking it was a beer tour but didn’t see anything like that. Just a beer garden, beers on tap to pick from and then sat down. I even bought a couple T-shirts. Hot day, fun atmosphere but wish they had had more of a gift shop or tour type experience.

Creole restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Middleton, Louisiannes Etc. is a charming downstairs restaurant that transports diners straight to New Orleans with its authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine. This intimate eatery features stunning stone walls and offers live jazz and blues music from Tuesday to Saturday, creating an inviting atmosphere perfect for a romantic evening or a cozy gathering with friends. For over thirty years, Louisiannes Etc.
Wonderful experience!, Gwen remembered us from our last dinner there! Sat us at the same table,as she recalled! I had jambalaya and Judi had the duck. Prior to that we enjoyed escargot, which was awesome. I finished with key lime pie, Judi was able to pry four pieces of the same to offer to her family.
Michael W — Google review
Great vibe and service. We had the pork tenderloin and jambalaya. Both were good. Not the best jambalaya I’ve had, but the portion was a lot more generous than I expected. The dark chocolate crème brûlée was a must have too!
Tammy T — Google review
Walking into Louisiana Etc. felt like stepping straight into a Tom Waits song soulful, and dripping with character. The atmosphere is rich with mood: dim lighting, rustic details, and a hum that makes you feel like the night could go on forever. It’s the kind of place where you settle in and lose track of time. What really sets it apart, though, is the service. Every staff member we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. They struck that perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness—making sure we had what we needed without ever hovering. Altogether, it’s not just a restaurant; it’s an experience. If you’re looking for a spot that makes you feel transported somewhere between New Orleans grit and back-alley poetry;this is it.
Lucas — Google review
The menu sounds intriguing. My issue was that it's like the food and plating (as you can tell by the pictures) is from the 1980's and has never been updated to today's standards. There was an overall lack of seasoning and spices on every dish. I went in expecting soul food but instead got bland dishes filled with dried parsley or cheese garnishes on the plate. Soul food means flavor - it doesn't have to be hot spicy. I got the feeling they cater to older people who want large portions and don't care much about taste.
Shannon C — Google review
Great spot close to where we live. We’ve lived by this place for years, but this was our first time dining there. Nice vibe and atmosphere. Can be a little hard to hear though if there’s a loud group. Food was all excellent — prepared and seasoned well. We had the combination platter for starters and we enjoyed each item. I had the special pasta dish with shrimp and crawfish. Really good. My wife had the catch of the day and loved it. Great service and an overall great value. We’ll be back.
Matt L — Google review
It is difficult for me to write this review. Our server, Jamie, was incredibly wonderful. Most of the food was fabulous. The ambiance and Saturday night jazz piano were sublime. But, in all fairness, the problems we experienced were too egregious to ignore. This venue is NOT friendly to those with disabilities. The entry stairs are steep, and many, with no visible alternate ramp or elevator. We arrived just after opening. Our seating area was nearly empty. I immediately advised the server I could not eat hot, spicy foods and was assured they would adjust my preferred dish so that the Cajun spices were not added. We also ordered the appetizer sampler platter. The platter took an inordinately long time to arrive, but was DELICIOUS! Our soups/salads were also top-notch. Then, we waited for our entrées ... and waited ... and waited. We became increasingly impatient, especially because most patrons who arrived after us were already eating their meals. Our server did come round to apologize for the delay, but there was no offer of a complimentary drink, dessert, or discount. Finally, over an hour after we placed our order, the entrees arrived ... with an apology because Cajun seasonings had been sprinkled all over the top of my roasted shrimp! Now, I could not eat my dinner. They offered a new entrée, but I didn't want to chance waiting another hour. Instead, I ordered a simple appetizer. They removed the charge for my entrée ... but added a charge for the appetizer, which I truly felt should have been complimentary considering all the problems. To top it off, it took approx 20 minutes or so for the appetizer to arrive. By then, my companions were finished with their meals. Thus, while our server did an outstanding job, because of (un)timeliness and (in)accuracy, I give service a low rating. And while most of the food was amazing, I gave it a low rating for the same reasons. Not really what I was hoping for during my first visit. Pictured: crab puffs, roasted shrimp, and appetizer sampler for 4
Bethanie G — Google review
The restaurant has gone down hill since the last time we were here. Service was slow. Soup was cold. Escargot tasted dirty. Dinner portions ok sized. Way too loud with the piano player in bar area.
Steps — Google review
The atmosphere and ambiance were cozy and inviting. The vaulted ceilings and live jazz piano were just right for the sound. Food was amazing. Crab cakes melted in your mouth. The Shrimp and Crawfish Diablo special was just the right amount of heat and the salmon with the REAL butter flaked perfectly. The real butter had a hint of lemon and possibly garlic? The deserts were this pecan chocolate cake that was like a fudge brownie and so decadent. But the chocolate creme brulé was divine. Fresh whipped cream for both. We will definitely be back and won't wait for our anniversary next time!

Hubbard Avenue Diner, located in downtown Middleton, is a classic diner offering homestyle comfort food and famous pies in a retro setting. They are known for serving up dishes like meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and all-day breakfast. The highlight of the diner is their wide selection of made-from-scratch pies that rotate monthly, featuring flavors ranging from apple to turtle.
Everything was excellent! The food was fresh, fast and very tasty! Bonus was the coffee is really good and they leave a small carafe on the table so you don't need to wait for a fill up.

Hubbard Ave. Diner is as Americana as you can get. The food is all made daily on site. They’re known for all their pies. Thru offer different varieties dept ding in the season. All the food was good and service was nice. They offer meatloaf, burgers and fish fry Fridays typical to diners along with a decent menu. The popover rolls were served warm with butter! I liked that they chilled the salad plate and greens were nice and crisp. The turkey dinner was good and wholesome with a really good cranberry relish. The broasted 1/2 chicken was good too. We split a slice of caramel apple pie and I can say I loved it as the crust was really flaky!

We stopped here for lunch. It was busy but was seated in less than 10 minutes. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. I had a turkey bacon pesto sandwich and fries. It came out hot and plentiful. My husband had a Ruben sandwich and he said it was good.

Pathetic. We've been eating at and ordering takeout/delivery from Hubbard Ave Diner for years, have spent thousands of dollars here and in the past always felt like it was worth it. Over the last several months it has now just become sad. Pic is from the order we had delivered tonight. Guess they didn't feel the need to provide us with the bread product that makes a burger a hamburger, would have been super nice if they had though. Don't feel like I need to explain the salad (please just refer back to the word at the beginning of this post). I also feel really uncomfortable with their decision not to use any type of covering whatsoever on the coleslaw cups we received because the takeout containers are rather gappy and you know it's summer and there's bugs and all, so that was also an unpleasant surprise to see upon opening our boxes this evening. Oh, they also gave us the wrong dressing...they did, however, include two cups of dressing as we had requested; but, it is one we find gross and it will not be eaten, so Hubbard Ave just created more paper and plastic waste for the planet all for nothing. I'm so tired of all of Madison's restaurants sucking so bad that I don't have the energy to write these reviews in an eloquent manner anymore but summing it up for this place, sometimes you'll get good food from here that was worth the money, sometimes you'll get food from here that appears to have been thrown around or made by preschoolers and very well not worth the money you paid for it. Hubbard Ave Diner used to be one of our very favorite restaurants but unfortunately not anymore.

I stopped in this place on my brief trip to Middleton. It is a fun super dive bar. From the moment you walk in it gives great small town vibes. The old wooden tables, the weird lottery machines, old wood paneled walls etc. You can see the cook making the food next to the bar. The staff was fun and whitty and the food was decent and all at a decent price.

Really fast and yummy food and drinks! Clove behind the bar was very helpful with great local recommendations and she was lovely to chat with. Loved the fun touch of her costume! We’ll definitely be back next time we are in Middleton

If I drove ten minutes out of town and took a right past a cornfield, this place would make sense. Instead, it's in the middle of a fancy, popular part of Middleton. (It probably fir my description 30 years ago, technically) So if you're looking for a pub food atmosphere right in town, this is your place. Food is great and well-priced (technically cheap, for the area). Staff is friendly and easy-going. Just a nice place if you don't like pretension.

This used to be our go-to place in Madison for burgers when we came to town for years. The servers were always super friendly and the same guy was always cooking and the food was awesome. And I always brought my foam pickle to see what the special was. Fast forward to last Friday night (Aug 16th).... Completely different. We sat at the bar as usual and the woman working couldn't have been snottier. She informed us that the pickles were no longer valid for specials (even though it was printed on the shirt she was wearing), because of the new owners. We ordered our usual burgers. They weren't awful, but they certainly weren't as good as they used to be. And to top that off, there was an OPEN container of fish fillets that sat on the counter the entire time we were there (almost 2 hours!!!) When I asked the cook why they were sitting uncovered and un-refrigerated that long, he looked at me like I was an idiot. Truly sad to loose a place that was so awesome for so long.

This place used to be great. Not anymore. They removed some of the best items on the menu. I went today and had the worst chicken breast sandwich I've ever had in my life. Way over seasoned. Then I get the bill! $25.24 for onions rings a horrible chicken sandwich and a lemonade. This was my last time going here. I don't think it will be long before we say goodbye permanently to this once great establishment. Completely disappointed!

Tavern food with great friendly service. Nice clean older building. The food came out quickly. The fried pickles were great and a little unusual from others I have had. They were more like sliced spears than pickle chips. The bacon cheeseburger was a nice thick patty with hickory smoked bacon. Parking is available along the streets.

You are in your yoga gear or better yet your tracksuit... you want a cozy spot but good naughty food. Well, head on over to Village Green! Great, friendly service and pretty good pub burgers. Besides burgers they have other items on the menu; all pretty much fried bar food. The fish fry is ok, but definitely not why I come here. And no I have never ordered a salad or such thing here, and don't plan on it. You can, but I come here for the burger! The atmosphere of the place is down to earth, old school tavern and I like it like that. Like the bar area seating close to action. Think till recently they were not taking credit cards, they have a cash machine inside but be prepared before you go. When I want a burger this place pops into my mind along with only 2 other spots in town. As far as drinks go, you are safer sticking with beer or a cocktail. Enjoy!

Sushi restaurant
Restaurant
Takara 88 is a modern and trendy establishment that offers authentic Japanese cuisine, including traditional dishes, hibachi-grill specialties, and sushi. The owner, Brian Ni, gained valuable experience as a sushi chef in Japan before opening the original Takara location on State Street in Madison. Now located in downtown Middleton, Takara 88 is owned by Brian and his wife.
Very crispy and flavorful. I love the presentation even though this was a very last minute doordash order. Thank you for the great food!

Takara the next best option in the Madison, WI market. Bento box was a large portion. Udon was flavorful.

Easily the worst Asian food I've ever had. Echoing and loud. There were only 3 tables. The server didn't ask to get our drinks and got 2 orders wrong even after clarifying and didn't try to make them right. She did attend to the table regularly, but clearly didn't actually want to help. My fried rice had a pool of grease in the bottom. The chicken and steak hibachi was also greasy, dry, overcooked, and under seasoned. The Gyoza was tough and easy too chewy. The edammaes were overcooked, tough, and barely any salt. The clear soup was slightly salty water w some mushrooms and green onion. I would like not eat this again if it was free. I'd try another dish on another night but it's 40$ for the worst food I've had in a while and easily the worst Asian food I've ever eaten. They would get a 1 star if it wasn't for a nice restroom, nice ligting and scene, nice wait staff (no matter how incompetent), and terribly overpriced. Not going back.

We love this place! After going to Japan, we really missed good sushi. We found Takara shortly after, and the sushi did not disappoint! The workers were so kind as well to bring us a little plate of food for our 1-year old.

Ordered albacore sushi, unfortunately the fish was very much not fresh and was starting to smell. Ordered a Dragon roll as well. Not great, not bad. Gyoza was gummy and tasted like it was re-heated.

Valentine’s Day dinner and Takara was packed…too packed when you include all of the dine-in patrons & take-out orders the management decided to accept that night. #TooMany #MoreThanTheyCouldHandle. I’ve been to Takara 88 many times and the the food selection is good. I love the salmon skin sushi and tuna rolls. The sushi plates are generous. I’m a fan of Takara, but I’ll probably skip the key holiday dates because the dine-in and take-out customers the management accepted greatly exceeded their capacity and both the customers and the staff suffered for that decision. So definitely go to Takara 88 for the food…But watch the busy nights …The good food might be spoiled by the inconvenience.

This is a great space. Open design and concept creates a nice flow. Extensive selection and not just sushi. We order 2 Bento boxes. Teriyaki chicken and beef negimaki....both were spot on. We order 2 rolls....they were good but we should have stuck to our usuals. All this for $35 with excellent service to boot. I highly recommend.

I came in and the place was empty. The workers seemed frustrated that it wasn't busier. I ordered the ramen and was judging it's quality for my own reasons. The men behind the counter, who I'm guessing are responsible for the food, seemed to pick up on this. They started staring at me and aggressively and angrily doing their duties, such as putting away dishes or washing dishes. It made a lot of noise and they kept coming out of the kitchen to look at me, as if to say to get out. I decided to leave. I told the guy behind the counter that I didn't appreciate the way they acted. He said nothing, looked down, and smiled as if to say "Well I got you to leave so I win" The waitresses were nice.

Craftsman Table & Tap, located on Frank Lloyd Wright Avenue in Middleton, is a popular American eatery known for its craft beers and cocktails. The high-ceilinged establishment offers a polished ambiance with a patio for outdoor dining. The menu features artisan sandwiches like the Russian Reuben and signature entrees such as the New York strip with Gorgonzola mashed potatoes. Additionally, patrons can choose from a wide selection of craft taps to accompany their meal.
I wanted to try this restaurant after my fiancé & his cousin went during restaurant week. His rave review & leftovers led me to get there! My pal & I went there on a Tuesday at 330p for an early dinner. I was undecided what to try & wanted to try the Mac n Cheese and I had a nice salad. My pal had a Rueben sandwich which she loved. We had cheese curds appetizer & creme brulee for dessert - both were excellent. We also had Old Fashioned cocktails which the server took additional time to explain some options to us. And from 3-530p weekdays is Happy Hour with Old Fashioneds at $5! The interior is classy, the servers are attentive, personable & speedy and the location is convenient with plenty of off street parking available. **highly recommend **

We had such a great experience at Craftsman Table & Tap! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt welcoming and relaxed. It’s the kind of place that manages to feel both modern and cozy at the same time, perfect for dinner with friends or just a casual night out. The food was fantastic—everything came out fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The menu has a great balance of comfort favorites and creative twists, and the drinks list is equally impressive. Service was spot-on too: friendly, attentive, and never rushed. All around, it felt like one of those spots you’re happy to discover and can’t wait to return to.

Good experience. Server was helpful with both drink and food suggestions. Both were good choices. Had the peach mango cider, pleasant , could taste the fruit. Not over powering. Had the caprees resoto. Good flavors, nice pesto touch. My son had the fish wall eye fish, decent flavor, lilely breaded and fried. My wife had a burger

We've eaten brunch and dinner at Craftsman over the past few weeks and both have been excellent. The food is fresh and somewhat unique, the portions are filling, and the drinks have been tasty--I especially love their espresso old fashioned at brunch, and their chocolate mousse is life altering. The staff has been fine but nothing exceptional. We will return!

If you’re looking for a place with a great atmosphere, this spot delivers. There’s a nice bar with plenty of seating, a spacious dining room, and a comfortable outdoor area to enjoy when the weather’s nice. The beer selection is impressive, and the cocktail menu has some solid options. As for the food—it’s just okay. Not bad, but nothing that really stood out. Come for the drinks and the vibe more than the food.

We ordered the BBQ hamburger and added bacon and waffle fries, as well as the Caprese risotto with salmon. The burger itself was underwhelming—very little flavor and definitely not worth the $17 price tag. The bacon was the best part, adding some much-needed taste, but overall it fell flat. The Caprese risotto was just okay, and at $18 it felt overpriced for what you get. The salmon ($6 up charge - which felt worth it), however, was the highlight of the meal—perfectly cooked as requested and tasted great.

I have been a customer of Craftsman for years, but we hosted our first event with them yesterday in their upstairs event space. Everything from start to finish was exceptional. Josie was the event coordinator who we worked with and she was communicative, efficient, and flexible. The planning process went incredibly smoothly thanks to Josie! The event itself was also well-executed, thanks to Jake and the event team. He went above and beyond ensuring all guests were comfortable and happy. The food was amazing and the prices were reasonable, with many diverse options for people with specific needs or dietary restrictions! The potatoes, salmon, and asparagus were especially delicious. We will definitely utilize them again in the future and would recommend for business events or really any gathering!

Nestled in the heart of Middleton, Wisconsin, 1847 at the Stamm House is a charming eatery that beautifully marries history with modern dining. Housed in a meticulously restored 19th-century building, this elegant restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for romantic evenings or special celebrations. With its spacious patio overlooking Century Avenue and both upstairs and downstairs dining areas, guests can enjoy seasonal American cuisine crafted from fresh ingredients.
This is such a great place ! We had made a reservation in advance and were seated right away . It is a quaint historical looking building but is fairly spacious . The service was great and prompt and the food was delicious! They had a little kids menu with some activities on it that kept our daughter entertained for a bit. Will definitely go again.

It was a busy night with only one server upstairs, but with folks helping drop off the dishes it helped a lot. I chose this location to be for my birthday meal as I loved the rich history and haven't been able to visit (i work nearby) yet. I was eager to see the inside and try the menu. I ordered the Blood Orange Bourbon Sour and that was lovely. We tried thr cheese curds, very melt in your mouth buttery goodness. My husband got the sirloin with roasted potatoes and tossed greens. The dressing on the greens is a strong vinaigrette which was a nice balance with the richness of the potatoes and sirloin. The sirloin was ok, maybe the cut was making the meat more chewy than melt in your mouth type. I had the shrimp and scallops with penne. It was good, the scallops were a bit overdone but there were only two so that's fine. I had the pumpkin pie and that was well spiced (all spice, as it wasn't too nutmeg, too cinnamon or clovy). Overall good food, but perhaps we just didn't choose the right meal for our first visit as we felt that we should come back before recommending.

Breaded & pan fried baby perch, mashed potatoes, wilted fresh spinach, slaw and fixings. Best fish fry in Middleton. Many thanks to Manager Reed for a great experience! You need to eat here asap. They also have hash brown encrusted walleye! Not enough Fridays on my trip lol.

10/25/25. Ordered Calamari as an appetizer to start along with drinks. We ate it, I told the waiter it was rubbery and wasn’t what I’ve had for a simple deep fry item. Should have stopped eating and returned it, the sauce helped it. I ordered an 8oz Filet and so did my girlfriend. Ordered it pink in the center. It was dry and not what I was expecting, looked good but wasn’t. Paid the extra for a loaded potato, it was loaded but cold. Again, should have sent it all back. It was busy as the evening went, my girlfriend didn’t finish hers and took it home. Id pass on the 8oz Filet. My daughter had Pesto Pappardelle she said it was good. Walleye for her boyfriend and he said it was good. The Espresso Martini were good. We got there and was seated right away, was suprised as every where else was out till 7 or 8 pm . Think it was around 5:30 when we were all done and got the receipt.

The food was amazing and 100% worth the price. Our server was very attentive and helped us choose our courses. We LOVED everything! The truffle fries with the aioli were to die for! Thank you charlie for taking care of us! If you are in Middleton you should definitely stop by.

Honestly it was a mixed experience. For a fine dining restaurant, the food quality was a bit suspect. The Chicken Parmesan was cold and the beef in the beef stroganoff was tough and grissley. We had them replace the chicken parmesan and it came out steaming hot the second time. On the plus side, the service was great from Charlie. The portion sizes were huge. I wish there were more mashed potato/vegatable sides. A lot of pasta choices. The Chicken Marsala was one of the better dishes, but the pasta was pretty al dente. The farm burger with the sunny side egg (see picture) was really good. Pesto Pappardelle was also good. We added 3 jumbo shrimp for an extra $9 (ouch), but they were delicious. A couple of side notes: It was my daughters 25th birthday, but we were told that they don't do anything special for birthdays. That really surprised us, I just assumed a birthday desert maybe? No fresh bread was offered. Again I found this surprising for a high end dining place. Drinks were good, especially the orange bourbon. And reasonably priced for a high end restaurant ($7 to $10)

Pheasant Branch Conservancy, a 550-acre protected wildlife area, offers a variety of landscapes and outdoor activities. With hiking and biking trails that provide downtown views, visitors can enjoy easy nature walks or day-long hikes. The conservancy is part of Middleton's extensive network of sidewalks, paths, and trails that connect residents to various parts of the city. Additionally, wayfinding signs along many trails feature QR codes that provide helpful information when scanned with a smartphone.
Love this place. Trails to walk, run, or bike. Different habitats to view birds. Eagle nest with young to view early May 2025. Well maintained & beautiful. Several small parking areas around the perimeter.

I went on the Pheasant Branch and Fredrick's Hill Loop trail, about 4.2 miles, with my dog. I loved how the scenery changed over the course of the trail. My favorite part was Fredrick's Hill Loop. While the most strenuous part, the view was beautiful! Most of the trail is paved or gravel and there was a fair amount of traffic. Next time I want to check out the dog free trails that go down into the sedge wetlands.

Absolutely stunning walking/running/biking trails in the middle of an urban/residential area with plenty of natural beauty and wildlife. The trails are cement paved which makes it perfect for a variety of activities. There are multiple entrances to this park, the area I entered didn't have a specific parking lot but other entrances do. This park is free and open for public use.

I discovered Pheasant Branch Conservancy when I worked at Common Ground Cafe & Gathering Place at the corner of Branch St. and Century Avenue before the pandemic. One of the entrances into the conservancy was across the street. It's a wonderful place to hike, bird watch, and generally enjoy nature. Walking along Pheasant Branch Creek is relaxing and beautiful. The huge prairie, oak savanna, wetlands, and intermittent woodlands are teeming with floral and fauna. It is one of those diverse places that is beautiful and captivating throughout all four seasons.

What an amazing gem to have in our backyards! To be clear- as someone that plans entire vacations around visiting national parks and hiking through some of the most beautiful nature on the planet, PBC is not somewhere I would recommend going out of your way to visit. But as a place to just stop and take a stroll on a random day after work, it cannot be beat. Springs, streams, ponds, native burial mounds, forest, prairie, and two of the tallest hills around all lie within the boundaries here, and you can see it all within a couple hours of relatively easy walking. Or you can skip the side paths and get through the main 3 mile loop in about an hour, but you'll be missing a lot of what makes it so special. The hills have just enough incline to get your heart going without getting too sweaty, and the loose gravel is well maintained. I've also biked the loop many times on hybrid tires without issue, but you do need to watch out for gravel that has washed away, and parts of the southern path narrow and get a bit uncomfy if there's any traffic. There are almost always deer & geese to see, but it's not rare to spot a less common bird (like the resident bald eagles). The river otter was the most exciting wildlife spotting to me though. And it's a phenomenal backdrop for sunsets. I've just started my journey into mindful photography, but so far this is my favorite spot in the area to capture both the sunset itself and the beautiful light that a setting sun casts on everything else. All-in-all, it's an amazingly diverse and beautiful chunk of land, and it's almost hard to believe that it's just sitting there as part of our local neighborhood. I think the only other places around that have any more beautiful or unique parts are Devil's Lake or Gov. Dodge, both of which are so much further away that it becomes a whole day event to go visit them. How fortunate we are to have this in our backyard!
James M — Google review
There are beautiful views from on top of the burial hill and plenty of long, wide enjoyable walking/biking trails. Far out into nature, there are few city sounds and a nice quiet peace of mind. The area is well kept up. I especially enjoyed the wooden bridges and the creeks below.

Absolutely gorgeous urban park! I was reading through reviews and I found pretty much every single one of the low reviews to be laughable! People complain of getting 4 mosquito bites, being able to see houses and not feeling out of the city, and there being better prairies or trout streams or whatever in the area etc. The thing is....this is an URBAN park and wetland. If your intent is to find remote hiking, then this was never the place you should be seeking out and giving it a poor rating based on that is unfair. That's comparing apples to oranges. This park is literally 15min from Downtown Madison. It is in no way remote and given it's size and being surrounded on all sides by city, it is foolish to expect to have trails to yourself or not be able to see houses etc I love visiting urban parks and green spaces and this is the best one I've seen in a long time, certainly the best I have seen in Wisconsin so far. The prairie was in full bloom and there were dozens of different types of flowers in bloom with several species of butterflies and bees all about. The main 3 mile loop trail around the park offered tons of different vantage points and types of habit to walk through. I was there after heavy rains and it was nice that all the boardwalks had anti-slip materials on every other board so it was super easy and safe to walk on. I can honestly say I can't think of a single improvement I would like to see. It was spectacular!

Gorgeous conservancy in the heart of the Madison Metropolitan Area. While in this beautiful nature escape in the middle of Middleton, you'll think you're in a nature retreat and forget you're only 10 minutes from downtown. Middleton Hills Park offers a delightful and enjoyable experience. It features a compact soccer field, alongside a scenic boardwalk that leads to an adjacent plaza, perfect for observing birds. The pathways within the park are constructed from wood, providing a sense of being immersed in nature while still being close to the city. Moreover, there is a charming playground available with basketball and volleyball courts for recreational activities. This small but lovely park is conveniently located right in town, making it easily accessible to residents and visitors alike.
So beautiful! Feels like you're completely out of the city walking on the wooden pathways through the nature reserve.

Fantastic neighborhood park! Small playground area, soccer field, and basketball court at the main entrance to the park. No parking lot, parking is limited along street at main entrance of park. Parking available street-side along other sides of park. Boardwalk takes you through about a third of the marsh area. The rest of the loop runs through the residential area. The trail stops, but the sidewalk continues all the way around the park.

If you're on the hunt for a vibrant and casual dining experience, look no further than Lupe's Taqueria. This delightful counter-service Mexican eatery specializes in build-your-own burritos and tacos, making it an ideal spot to satisfy those post-party cravings. With its lively atmosphere and spacious patio, it's perfect for enjoying hearty meals with friends or family. At Lupe's Taqueria, you'll find generous portions of fresh ingredients served up quickly by friendly staff.
Very flavorful and fresh. Very good service. They make your food with care. Good alternative to the corporate burrito chains.
Carlyn M — Google review
I've been a regular at Lupe's Taqueria for years now, and it has honestly become my go-to spot - I find myself there at least once a week, sometimes more. What started as curiosity about a new local place has turned into genuine loyalty, and here's why. The food is consistently excellent. While I've worked my way through most of the menu over time, the Tacos al Pastor remain my absolute favorite - perfectly seasoned, authentic flavors, and always fresh. When I want something heartier, their burritos and burrito bowls never disappoint. The portions are generous, the ingredients are quality, and everything tastes like it's made with care. But what really sets Lupe's apart is the ownership and service. The owner runs this place with remarkable professionalism and integrity. I experienced this firsthand a few years ago when I accidentally left something very valuable at my table after a particularly exhausting workday. When I realized my mistake and returned the next morning in a panic, the owner had already secured my item safely. Rather than just handing it over, he had me describe it in detail to verify I was the rightful owner - exactly the kind of careful, trustworthy approach you'd hope for but rarely see. The personal touch doesn't stop there. Whether I encounter the owner at the restaurant or around town, he always takes time to greet me warmly and ask about my family. It's that genuine care for customers that transforms a good restaurant into a community staple. The service is consistently friendly and efficient, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the value is outstanding. This is the kind of family-owned business that makes you proud to be a regular customer. If you haven't tried Lupe's yet, you're missing out on both exceptional food and exceptional people. Highly recommended!

A no frills taqueria with Chipotle style ordering and preparation. The tacos are huge and tasty that'll fill you up quick. We had barbacoa, spicy pork, chorizo, and steak. Only downside was that the chorizo was more like ground beef cooked with salsa. Next time I'd get 2 instead of 3 since they're so filling. The tamale was standard fare with good pork filling. I'll definitely be back.

9/15/21 Tried a spicy pork burrito...it was on par with everything I've tried previously. Exceptionally good! Fresh and made to order...fantastic! 3rd visit and I got 3 soft tacos. Beef, chicken, and pork. Very good, as I expected!

Deli
Gino's Italian Deli is a delightful counter-serve establishment that captures the essence of classic Italian cuisine. Known for its hearty family-style platters, this deli offers an array of delicious options including fresh salads, submarine sandwiches, and homemade pasta sauces. Each dish is crafted daily in-house, ensuring quality and flavor in every bite. The inviting atmosphere features both indoor and outdoor seating, making it a comfortable spot to enjoy your meal or grab something to go.
Had to have some Gino's meat lasagna. I drive from Sun Prairie to Middleton, but it is worth the drive. Still very much miss Gino's on State Street downtown. 😪 I bought 2 pans!

On a whim, tried a sample of the cajun chicken salad pasta and was immediately hooked! (Pretty much the only reason I go to Gino’s). Today I purchased my favorite pasta salad and it seems they’ve decided to change the recipe! No more pineapple (my favorite part). If I knew this I would not have ordered it! Bummer!

I've been in several times. I've tried several of their sandwiches. Haven't found one yet that has hit the button. The burgundy beef and lasagna are delicious. The service is prompt, but it is very apparent that nobody likes their job. Nobody smiles EVER and there isn't a positive vibe in the joint. Curt is the most polite way to put it.

Amazing food, service, and atmosphere. If I could go here every day, I would. Although, the spaghetti could have some work, and honestly, for an Italian Delhi, it was cheap. 10/10

I really enjoyed their Italian meatball sandwhich. The meat was tasty and the bread was quite soft. The cheese and marinara were good. Overall I had a pleasant experience shopping at the deli.

Tasty sandwiches... Good fillings and well made! Gino's has been around for a long time... I have always heard they’re very good. I did not realize that they sold so much ready to go cook at home food, and even basics for making your own Italian meals. The shop is easy to access with good parking. Staff is nice. And indoor and outdoor seating is comfortable.

If you need premade ready to cook lasagna this is the place. Already made and just ready to put in the oven for 1 1/2 hours and you can have dinner for 6 to 12.

Prairie Cafe & Bakery is a straightforward cash-only coffeehouse that specializes in freshly baked goods, soups, and sandwiches. This local establishment serves breakfast and lunch, with daily specials available. Customers can enjoy a clean restaurant with ample seating space, reminiscent of a library due to its Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. The menu offers a variety of options for both breakfast and lunch, including à la carte items for those looking for lighter fare.
Excellent cafe very popular for breakfast and lunch on lazy weekends morning. Great location, seating, a very well laid out menu to select from. We ordered chicken salad, wrap and chicken burgers with coffee and milk shake. Portion and quality was top notch. Must visit if you are in Madison.

Well it goes without saying that the lemon-blueberry scones absolutely rock. My experience other than that has been the omelets, all of which I enjoyed. Pleasant atmosphere. Can get loud with conversation when busy but not overwhelming. Some outdoor seating. Staff has always been friendly.

A happy surprise to find this cozy spot. It's not the trendiest, as far as decor, but the food is good, the service is even better and I love the spread they have for coffee, water and condiments. I'll definitely go out of my way to return.

At Johnny's Italian Steakhouse, patrons can enjoy a sophisticated dining experience in an elegant setting reminiscent of a supper club. This upscale establishment offers a delectable menu featuring steaks, pasta, and cocktails. The attentive and efficient service ensures that guests have an enjoyable time. The restaurant's ambiance is enhanced by the display of memorabilia from iconic figures such as Frank Sinatra and The Rat Pack, creating a relaxed yet refined atmosphere.
We had a wonderful night out for my mother's 70th birthday. The location was easy to access with a free parking lot. The hostess was friendly and brought us too our table. The server was not only friendly and attentive but stayed on top of all of our drink refills and knew the menu inside and out. We ordered steak risotto mushrooms scallops, lobster, mac and cheese and salads. Absolutely, everything looks delicious. The manager came to the table and spoke with my nephew and my mother telling us about how their foods are made and hoping that my mother had a wonderful evening. He made himself available if we had any needs. He even took a photo for us. They also provided a delicious piece of cake for my mother's birthday. The kids finished off with some ice cream and we had some great coffee. If you're looking for a nice dinner and a beautiful environment, I would highly recommend this location.

so im going to give an honest review. i dined in here tn. Sunday, Aug 31st 2025 at like 7:45PM. sure there were major issues with the side dish… but the entree did make up for that significant problem. the steak trio omfg, delicious and made perfectly. the server suggested this and omg it was so good. im from canada and exploring all the restaurants here…i paid way more money at en vino for a lower quality steak meal. this was the best steak ive had since moving here. toppings were amazing. with that being said. the ambience needs work. the interior needs new everything. tables have scratches and holes. menus have scratches, markings, and look ancient. cuterly seems old, lots of markings. if ya’ll renovated and updated, this would have potential to be top notch for middleton for sure.
Sunera R — Google review
We arrived there late afternoon for a dinner before the night guests arrived. When we were asked where we wanted to sit it was suggest at the bar. We wanted a nice dinner not drinks. We inquired about their nicest table since we were the only guests. We were put at a table that was nothing short of a runway. The staff paraded by our table nonstop. This was the most uncomfortable dining experience we have ever had. The food was some of the worst we have ever had. We up charged our meal and ordered the spinach salad. What a mistake , it was nothing like any salad we've had. Instead of bacon it was like pieces of jerky, the dressing wasn't hot bacon dressing at all. My steak was over salted ,tough, and smothered in crusty spices. My husbands dish with scallops had very few with a saucy overkill to it. This definitely wasn't a $100 meal. Only plus for it was location to our motel so we could walk to it.

Lakeview Park is a beautiful community park with many athletic fields, playgrounds, and a splash pad. It's great for families to enjoy sports and outdoor activities together.
Lakeview Park is great resource for Middleton! Right off Allen Blvd with lots of easy parking. In the warm months, the disc golf course is challenging but not too challenging…and a nice cool location with lots of trees! The city has redone the picnic shelter and play area. There’s plenty of room for a really big group to gather and eat…I think it could handle 100 people I bet. And having the play area directly adjacent makes it convenient for events with families with little kids. The walking paths are nice for strolling around the pond and fields. So many big fields! There tennis courts too. And purple fish in the pond! And a water spray park for the summer. This is a wonderful resource for middleton!
Aj S — Google review
This park is truly amazing! There is a nice little pond that people were fishing in, a nice park for the kids, and there was an indoor area that an event was being held. The park was very clean and there are plenty of spots to sit at picnic tables. Would highly recommend this park!

Went for the disc golf and loved it! Quiet 9 hole course that was enjoyable and good for little kids. The first and ninth holes were closer to the parking lot, and two-eight were down a path adjacent to the water retention area. The course was free to play, and we will be back! There was also a playground that looked amazing, but we did not have time to play when we were there. Maybe next time!
Megan B — Google review
What a nice, beautiful, big, open public park with nice paths and scenery! There's a clearwater pond in the middle with seaweed and an abundance of fish! There are docks spread throughout the pond that you can walk out onto. There are native plants growing around the pond and in the park, in general! It looked like they were working on a native plant restoration project, which is great! I ran into an unexpected war memorial, at the park, which was really well constructed. There were signs next to trees educating people on the types of trees they are. I thought that was really cool. :D It's a nice park to have a picnic at. There were people hanging out on the grass, people walking their dogs, and children playing at the playground. It was a very inviting place.

Came for the disc golfing. A bit tricky to find if you've never been, as I did not find any signs for it anywhere. But once found, I enjoyed every moment. The holes are a bit close together, but over all a peaceful 9 hole course

Beautiful grounds. Comfy furniture, spacious rooms. There are also a lot of areas outside to sit and meditate and gaze at the beautiful scenery, but the most wonderful thing is the food. The chef is phenomenal at preparing and presenting the meals. The food is delicious.

I came here for a break from work and school. By the end of the retreat, I felt at peace with life. Volunteering on the prairie was great. Hiking everyday was amazing. The staff was awesome. Not one bad experience!

We really enjoyed having our wedding ceremony at Holy Wisdom Monastery! Leading up to the wedding, Brooke was very helpful with answering any questions we had and was great at setting up times where we could come see the monastery and envision the decorations for the ceremony. Brooke was wonderful with helping/leading during the rehearsal and made sure everything went smoothly the day of. We’d highly recommend Holy Wisdom as a ceremony site! This is also where we had our pictures taken in the outdoor photos. It was beautiful even at the end of November.
Kathleen C — Google review
Terrible place for a musical event. Neither the stage (as there is none) is raised nor (as an alternative) are the seats tiered. Therefore if you see an orchestral chamber music event here, you're not going to be able to see the musicians. Plus the room is too bright during the performance, and the walls are all solid drywall which affects the acoustics. The lack of visibility should keep anybody from buying tickets here. They should strongly consider procuring an interlocking stage that could be assembled and then disassembled for this otherwise versatile space. Last but not least, there is no light along the sidewalk to the lower parking lot, which is a considerable fall risk.
Cheryl C — Google review
I came to the monastery for a personal retreat to unplug, reset and restore. I was looking for a few days of slow, relaxed meditative activities. I sure found them! Hours spent strolling the paths through gorgeous native prairie, oak savanna and woodlands. cozy, clean, simple room for rejuvenating sleep. tasty meals and extremely kind, accommodating staff. The whole experience felt very caring. Can't wait to return to see the autumn landscape!

I’ve been to Holy Wisdom for a retreat, prairie work, bringing students to learn about environmental spirituality, a fall colors tour, and more. Their “community of communities” achieves a truly remarkable fusion: hospitality, hiking trails and land stewardship, justice, a spirituality that is inclusive and nourishing. Because of all these dimensions, a wide variety of people can enjoy HWM for a wide variety of reasons. My personal retreat couldn’t have been better: three days to walk the prairie, read in my hermitage, and enjoy delicious meals with the sisters. Holy Wisdom is a hidden gem that I recommend to everyone I know.

Nice park with soccer fields, tennis courts, cricket pitch, playground, walking path, and picnic area with a grill. The playground is nice. It has two structures, one for younger children and one for older.
Seth M — Google review
OK park great playground for the kids, but someone needs to give the Middleton Parks dept a tutorial on marking their youth soccer fields
Peter J — Google review
The playground has two playsets - one for 2-5 and one for 5-12. There are swing sets for older kids and a separate one for toddlers. The park does not have bathroom facilities nearby and very few shade trees. The playroom can get hot very quickly so test the slides first to make sure they aren't too hot for kids in shorts. Also, the playground was not well tended. There were alot of weeds all over the playground and it didn't look like the playground was in the best shape compared to others in Middleton.

Nice playground. Also nice soccer field/open space. There's a large grove of trees with some trails and sometimes a stream. Great for kids to go exploring. Nice picnic shelter. Usually not crowded.

Pope Farm Conservancy is a 105-acre nature area in Madison, Wisconsin, offering walking trails, wildlife viewing, and display crops. It is a popular spot for both easy nature walks and longer hikes. The conservancy features moraines, restoration projects, crop fields, and miles of walking trails that provide ample opportunities for photography. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of the prairie and savanna restoration areas while exploring the diverse landscapes.
One of the best places in the greater Madison area for a walk outside. Sunflowers in August are the most typical attraction, but it is a great year-round visit.

Very nice place to take a walk, run on grass trails at all times and there are picnic tables. Good place to do bird watching. Crops are rotated every year. This place is very popular when there are sunflower fields.

Most of the reviews here will highlight Pope Farm Park's beautiful walking paths, or fields of sunflowers, or birdwatching, or any of the variety of other natural out-of-doors experiences that can be had here. I'll focus on the beautiful eastern horizon and potential unobstructed view you can get of the sun or moon rising above the city of Madison, WI. I've included just a few photos here taken with telephoto lenses of the sun and moon rising over the skyline, including the capitol dome. Note: it takes a lot of careful planning to obtain a shot like this. You won't just luck into these shots. Enjoy the views from Pope Farm Park!

Mexican restaurant
If you find yourself in Madison, Wisconsin, make sure to stop by Camino Real Mexican Seafood for a delightful culinary experience. This gem offers an impressive menu filled with fresh seafood dishes that are both flavorful and beautifully presented. The staff is incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, ensuring that even those unfamiliar with the menu feel right at home. One standout feature is their pricing model; they adjust costs based on market prices, which means you're getting fair value without any hidden fees.
This place gets a 100% go from me. The food was excellent. the staff was excellent and didn't make me feel stupid because I didn't know how to pronounce menu items. They give you market price so they're not blatantly overcharging you for the price of seafood when it goes up or down they charge a percentage over what their cost is. The bathrooms were spotless, the dining room was spotless and the bar was spotless. The menu was done really well so it's easy to read and fun. They're willing to pretty much custom make you whatever you want. If you like Mexican and seafood or just one of the other you need to try this place!!!
Joe W — Google review
We love seafood and Mexican cuisine, so we were so excited to try this place! But music was too loud, our server didn't speak any English, so it was hard to communicate. Fish ceviche was probably the worst I ever tried. Didn't care to eat more than two bites. In mixed seafood dish size of mussels/scallops/shrimp/octopus was so small, I would expect better quality of the product for the price. But it had large chuncks of crab imitation meat, which I didn't expect. Shrimp was tough and overcooked. But portions are large. Unfortunately, I don't think we will be back.
Kate K — Google review
Great restaurant. Great flavor, and great service. Went on a Friday night and was semi busy. The food and drinks were brought out pretty fast. I asked for salsa for the fish tacos and got two different ones, green and red. Red(chile de arborl) is fire... shut out to Arturo for being on it that night. I say this is by far the best spot for Mariscos in Madison.
Allan L — Google review
The food was great: I got the street tacos and a lime mojito to drink - both were perfect. Our server Esperanza was incredible, kind and friendly. Definitely coming back!
Mikael F — Google review
A must try if you are ever in Madison Wisconsin. Our server was polite, very helpful, and most importantly, the food was delicious. There are several seafood dishes that also include fries. I thought that was odd, but it was a perfect compliment to the sauce. I'd eat here at least twice a week if I lived nearby. The drinks were also great. I couldn't finish it, and that's rare!🤣🤣 You won't be disappointed. Visitors from Atlanta, GA
TES 1 — Google review
This restaurant has always been somewhat disappointing, but my last visit assured me that I will not be returning. The waitress had no idea what she was doing and our party doesn't think that she was properly trained. The food was flavorless and our guacamole was not fresh. It was watery and had a creamy texture that is achieved by adding sour cream or something like that. What was most dismaying was how little meat came in our fajitas. The meat to vegetable ratio is showed in the attached picture. The dish should be priced less than $5 for the quality and quantity of meat. I will not be returning - the food, the price, the service were all very poor. There are plenty of nearby restaurants that do things much better. Save your money and go somewhere else.
Tooli H — Google review
Fun atmosphere for dinner. The food was fantastic. They bring the heat! We were given the impression that refills were free, but they were charged.
Isaac D — Google review
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Camino Real Mexican Seafood and was thoroughly impressed with my experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with friendly and attentive service. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, with traditional Mexican decor and a lively atmosphere. I was seated at a cozy table and given a menu that featured a wide variety of seafood options. I decided to go with the carne asada and was not disappointed. The carne and sides were bursting with flavor and the carne was cooked to perfection. The portion size was generous and I left feeling satisfied, but not overly full. In addition to the delicious food, the drinks were also top-notch. I enjoyed a refreshing margarita and was impressed by the variety of options on the drink menu. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Camino Real Mexican Seafood and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious seafood and a fun atmosphere. The service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other items on the menu.

C's Restaurant & Bakery is a charming eatery nestled on Allen Boulevard near Lake Mendota, offering a delightful blend of breakfast and lunch options in a cozy, retro setting. This beloved local gem has been serving up homemade baked goods for nearly four decades, including scrumptious fruit and cream pies, muffins, scones, and their famous cinnamon rolls.
This is exactly what every local breakfast spot should be: A homey environment with homemade comfort food and friendly service! The cinnamon swirl pancakes are truly a highlight — they’re huge, so share an order for the table and everyone will leave in a better mood! The skillets and omelettes are hearty and the hash browns are perfect. Don’t forget to grab some fresh bakery items on your way out. This place is a gem and I will stop here every time I’m in the area.
Rick R — Google review
I’d like to preface by saying that this review is not about the food, it’s about the service and overall experience dining at this place. We’ve been to this restaurant three times. The first time was great, but being huge coffee lovers, we noticed that their coffee was very light. We let it slide, since it was our first time, and we thought perhaps it was just an off-day for whoever is brewing their coffee. However, on our second time, we noticed that the coffee was still made the same way - very light roast. We asked the server if we could have at least a medium roast, and her response was, this is how they make their coffee because most of their customers are elderly and don’t like their coffee that strong. We still went there a third time, because we really liked the food, but this time we stopped by at nearby Starbucks to get our coffee before going into this restaurant. We were promptly greeted and seated, but when the server came, she said, “Next time, you should finish your coffee first before coming in”. We told her that we prefer our coffee a certain way and that’s not something that this restaurant is able to offer, so we decided to bring our own coffee. She then said, “You don’t bring your own beer to a bar when you don’t like their beer”. And I replied, “We’re here for the food, not for the coffee.” And of course, at this point, we just stood up and left, mentally crossing off this place from our favorites list. I understand the principle behind not letting outside food in, but most places are able to accommodate and make an exemption on items that they are not able to offer, or are not on their menu. And quite honestly, if I’m a business owner, I wouldn’t want to lose $50 worth of business over a $2 cup of coffee. Especially not on a day when you only have 6 customers dining in.

We like to try new places when we are out of town. So we found this place via a google search and so glad we did. Food and service were amazing. This will be our go to when in the area. Also if they ask if you want your elephant ear grilled say yes! Oh so good!!

An awesome traditional american breakfast spot. It’s great when you walk in and everyone is a local. They had a great selection of just about anything you could think of, omelette, pancakes, scrambles, skillets, etc. My boyfriend said they were some of the best pancakes he’d ever had. My omelette was good, wasn’t out of this world but it was cheesy and had a nice balance of every ingredient. I would loved a little more ham. Very good for a quick bite, they are fast and efficient! Definitely will come again, looking forward to trying more of the menu.

Our first time going here and it was a great experience. Trisha, our waitress was amazing and very friendly, sweet, kind and full of joy. She made our first experience great. We are from the south and good customer service is what we are use too back home and she made a great expression. The food was wonderful, I had blueberry pancake and skillet hash and my spouse had the hungry man. Portions were a great size. I do plan to visit again next time I'm in the area. I will say the customer service is what made the whole visit worth it. Thank you very much Trisha, keep smiling, because it making others smile.

Nice, comfortable atmosphere. Ample portions. We had the typical steak and eggs, but then we went for their suggestions for what were some of their popular specialties...the Wisconsin Country Skillet and the Cinnamon Roll Sandwich. The steak for the steak and eggs was 6oz, so very nice for a breakfast. My skillet was off the charts. I gobbled that up shamelessly. But the Cinnamon Roll Sandwich was truly a unique take on a bacon and egg sandwich, savory and sweet at the same time with excellent balance. The server did a great job offering thoughts, checking back, and being cheerful. The server was slightly forgetful missing my orange juice and jam that is not on the table, but really that happens everywhere. So, it was a nice experience at a good price.

This is one of those local family style restaurants that have good food you can count on them and they are well priced good service and sometimes hard to find these days. It’s just a lovely family owned restaurant that’s been there for years. They are only open till 1 o’clock in the afternoon. They open early I believe at 6 AM but you can always count on them for a good breakfast or an early lunch, their handicap access Plenty of parking and they always have the newspaper there too so if you’re a single person just popping in to have a quick breakfast with some good coffee you can set at the counter, which is very popular and enjoy the paper with your meal. I also love the pancakes and they have good biscuits and gravy and the service is excellent and the extra little treat as they always have a decorated for the holidays and they have special collectible items that they put out at Christmas. It’s cozy. It’s company and I highly recommend it.

Cute place to grab breakfast! Food was amazing. Had an omelet and it was fluffy and packed full of ingredients! The hashbrowns are one of a kind with ingredients packed in and looks like they shred potatoes in house. Then the homemade breads! Honestly, this is a good to more often for me! Fresh baked sweet items at the counter...can't believe this place is in Middleton.

Pizza restaurant
Restaurant
Novanta is a modern eatery located in the Shorewood Hills area of Madison, with an additional location in Middleton. The restaurant offers wood-fired pizzas with unique toppings and select mozzarellas, cooked in wood-burning ovens that reach 900F and bake pies in just 90 seconds. Visitors praise the homey ambiance and friendly staff, making it a favorite pizza place for many.
As a lacto-vegetarian, finding truly indulgent desserts without eggs can feel like an endless search. So when I discovered this place, it felt like a little haven. The cannoli and the chocolate truffle gelato were absolutely divine—each bite was a delight. I took home the Regina pizza last night, and it was so good that I found myself returning the very next morning. And I have to mention…..the roasted red bell pepper soup? Simply unforgettable. Rich, comforting, and full of flavor…..it’s the kind of dish you crave long after the last spoonful !!!!! Naturally, you’d expect a pizzeria to serve great pizza…..but this place exceeded every expectation. The pizza was truly exceptional, easily one of the best I’ve ever had. And if you get the chance, don’t miss their house-made pesto. It’s vibrant, fresh, and absolutely unforgettable….a perfect example of how even the simplest elements here are crafted with care.

Great pizzas, quick and friendly service, all around a fantastic fast casual pizza stop. The pizzas are fresh with generous toppings and come out hot. The crust is fantastic and the perfect texture and chewiness.

I’m in Madison for only 1 month and trying to find the best wood fired or coal fired pizza in the area. I think I’ve finally found it. I placed a mobile order on their website and it was super easy. I hate when they force you to make an account just to order… and this place didn’t so that was already a good sign. I got a margarita pizza and added Italian sausage. $12 total. Can’t complain at all with that price, considering a lot of other places start at $15 and ask for an extra $3 for crumbs of sausage. Not this place. Just as I pulled into their lot, I got a text my pizza was ready. As I walked in, the place smelled phenomenal. The woodfired smoke baking fresh crust and melting cheese. The two workers were extremely friendly and addressed me by name before I even introduced myself. A nice, friendly touch. Thanks guys! Now the pizza. Is it the best ever woodfired pizza I’ve ever had in my life? No. But it’s up there. The smell was fantastic right when opening the box. The crust was nice and crisp and remained so through the entire meal. The sauce had a nice tang and the flavors of basil, oregano, and garlic complemented the cheese and meat well. The mozzarella had good cheese pull and the sausage tasted fresh. Overall, pretty pleased with this place. Will definitely come back and will recommend to people in the future! Kind of away from the city center/campus, but was definitely worth the drive!

The Food: I had half Margherita / half Salsiccia pizza (mozzarella, roasted peppers, olives, mushrooms, basil); Unshackled red wine; and Chocolate truffle gelato. Salsiccia was best and was very tasty. The sauce is wonderful! There was only one small piece of basil on each slice of the margherita half. But after I mentioned my disappointment to my server, I was told that next time I can order extra basil at no extra charge. (Another reviewer said she paid for extra basil and didn't get it. But her photo shows multiple pieces of basil on each slice, which means they provided what they consider extra basil.) Other pizzas sound quite good, too. Lots of unique options. I've had better Neapolitan pizza, but this was very good and a good value. The gelato was delicious and a relatively light dessert. The wine was recommended by wait staff and was a wonderful complement to my pizza. Nice and slightly peppery in taste. Service: You order at the counter; you're given a number for your table; and the food is brought to you. This is reflected in the price, which is very reasonable for the quality of food. My pizza was served very quickly, which would make this a great place for lunch on a workday. Atmosphere: It's a bustling place, especially for a Monday night. This is not a fine dining experience--more like you'd find in a solid sandwich shop. The kitchen is very open style and quite visible from the seating area. The staff have a very friendly, casual vibe but are very diligent. If you're looking for a relaxing dinner, this is not the place. But if you want something out of the ordinary served quickly that won't exhaust your expense account, it's just the place for a traveling businessman.

The pizza 🍕 was very good but wasn't mind-blowing 🤯. I do wish it was a bit bigger. The crust had a nice crisp to it and the price 💰 was very reasonable. Not sure about the desserts 🍰 because I didn't buy any. Pretty good for a quick bite.

One of the best pizzas I have ever had. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The staff was fantastic. Desserts were amazing too. I wish I lived in the area so I could come here more often, but I will be back when I am visiting the town again.

Great customer service… great pizzas with fresh ingredients, delicious desert. Really careful with gluten free pizza and desert. I highly recommend Novanta!
Nathan K — Google review
I was really excited when I saw that they cooked their pizza the Italian way in a 900° oven. However, the pizza I received was partially cooked, had no crunchy crust to it whatsoever, no char at all like you would typically see with a true Italian pizza. But not only that, the marsala Pizza was Bland at best. Also ordered a small Gorgonzola salad that was decent, however, the tiramisu was dry and not tasty at all. Overall I was disappointed and will likely not be back. For the quality and portion size of the food it is highly overpriced.

Sushi restaurant
Fuji Sushi & Hibachi is a modern sushi restaurant with lounge-like decor. The atmosphere is always very nice and the food always tastes great. One of the main attractions here is the hibachi service which is highly recommended.
Fuji is a culinary gem! Their hibachi grill experience is both entertaining and delicious, with chefs showcasing impressive skills. The sushi is exceptional, featuring fresh, melt-in-your-mouth fish. Perfect for a fun night out with friends or a special dinner. Highly recommend!

I went to Fuji this week Friday for my Nephews birthday dinner. I asked the server for chicken hibachi no salt On the chicken or the vegetables I also said, I would just take the regular sauce on my meat. He pretended like he didn’t understand what my request was. He proceeded to have a couple people from the kitchen, come and stare at me in the dining area back-and-forth once the actual cook came out he re-ask me. Hey do you want your meat and your vegetables with no sauce I said no I would like it with no salt or no soy sauce. He said oh OK no problem he makes my food, so it’s time to check out. I asked the cook if you guys take tap to pay he said yes! Now my friend came with seven other people on her bill my other friend ordered filet mignon, steak, shrimp, chicken, apple juice she had a large order. My meal was the cheapest order of the group $23 . He then had the man that didn’t understand that I didn’t want salt came back and said “really tap to pay” I say yeah what’s the problem? Are you upset about that? He says “yes” so I say OK he said “matter fact, I’m gonna walk you to the front to make sure you pay for your meal” I said make sure I pay for my meal. Why wouldn’t I pay for my meal? You guys said that you have a tab to pay that’s a form of payment that’s the form of payment that I’m going to take that’s have to pay machine is at the front of the building where you check out it he literally followed me from the dining area to the front and was like here here. This is where you pay mind you when you walk in you can clearly see when you have to pay with your own eyes. I said I don’t need you to walk me here I know where it’s at. I got it again , mind again you my bills $23 . I’m not only felt uncomfortable I felt embarrassed I felt singled out and racially profiled . I called the next day to talk to the owner some guy said that he would have talk to the person who did all this to me. I said no that’s not good enough. I need to get an apology from the owner and I would like a refund at this point because my entire experience was tarnished by the situation not only did I not get a call back from the owner. I call today, Sunday, September 28 , and now the workers are telling me they don’t know when the owners gonna come there. They don’t know being very smug on the phone so if I were you, I would be mindful of going to Fuji because their customer service is terrible especially if you are an African-American, please be mindful. I was not accommodated for my experience there. I have not gotten a call back from anybody and I feel very disrespected . I would not recommend this restaurant, to really anybody because nobody should wanna go to a place like that that would treat anybody that way.

Absolutely terrible service. Josh at the bar completely ignored us and when we asked nicely if we could order after waiting for 5 minutes he said “I’m busy washing dishes” … it was my moms birthday and we said “if it’s a problem we can just get a table” he responded without even looking up “what do you want?” …I have never experienced a worse greeting at any restaurant ever. We talked to the manager John who apologized and said he would tell him, but offered us nothing. We left. We will not be returning. Also: the place is run down and quite dirty.

Kids friendly, bit overcrowded, good customer service, quick food delivery. They have great selection of specialty sushi’s. Prices are fairly reasonable. Music is not obnoxiously loud but pleasant so you can have conversation with your company. 6/2023 update: portions are getting smaller and prices are increasing

Love the place! This was the first time visit for me. George, the bartender, we're still trying to figure out what part of Japan he's from 🤣 was outstanding! We had a Chicago role for the first time and it was absolutely delicious, we're still talking about it. And the drinks are super reasonable! I will be back for sure.

Wouldn’t come again… Salad was good but it was all downhill from there. Water tastes bad, chicken was so tough it hurt to chew, everything was coated in a sauce that tasted like sugar, our chef put so much black pepper that all you tasted was sugar sauce & pepper…. Waitress was nice but disappeared and we waited a long time for our check and then a long time for her to give the card back. I didn’t eat even a quarter of my food due to the quality

We went for hibachi at lunch. The food and service were pretty good, but there was no vegetarian hibachi option on the menu. The decor was pretty nice, but there were a few decorative panels that were peeling off the wall. The prices were typical for hibachi.

Day 4

Off the beaten path
For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Fireman's Park Beach. Not quite as popular as National Mustard Museum, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 3 hours.

Nestled in Verona, Wisconsin, Fireman's Park Beach is a delightful family-friendly destination that transforms a former limestone quarry into an aquatic paradise. Spanning approximately 18 acres, this unique park features a sandy beach perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Families can enjoy various activities such as fishing, splashing around in the splash pad, or taking thrilling rides down the large water slide.
First time coming here and I was really impressed. It's an excellent beach that is adjacent to a park. Back today, June 2022 and we actually saw lots of people enjoying the water park.

Nice splash pad and playground. Many people seem to enjoy the beach and water, but I'm not much of a beach person. Overall, a very well maintained place with adequate tables and bathrooms too. Have gonenl several times for the kids.
Dumb F — Google review
We are from out of state and drove 20 minutes to visit this beach that we found online. Our children were excited about the water slide! We went down to the water slide when we arrived, we were told that we needed wristbands. We went to the concessions and bought 5 wristbands ($30). We immediately went back to the water slide and the lifeguards were on break. After about 15 minutes we finally asked when it would reopen. We were told that they were not going to reopen it, it's closed for the rest of the day. It was 4 pm and 85 degrees out, the beach was open until 6 pm. We asked the concessions for our money back and they said "no." I wouldn't trust that you're going to get the amenities that you're paying for here. The bathrooms were also disgusting. There's got to be a nicer place to swim.

Beautiful and well maintained! My kids ask to go daily! Free splash pad/park is wonderful very relaxing piece of paradise! Clean bathrooms, ice cream for $1 it's perfect! ♥

Great addition to Verona. Beach is plenty big and summer there are ropes so you know depth wise where to stay. Diving board out deeper. Splash pad is great for all ages. Bring small toys or use what you can find on the little kid river part. Playground is good too. Plenty of tables in the shade. Summer afternoons you have to pay for the beach as there is a life guard on duty. We go here often during the summer.
