Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled on a charming small island, Aoshima Shrine is a serene Shinto sanctuary surrounded by lush subtropical vegetation, including ancient 300-year-old trees. This picturesque location is not only known for its stunning natural beauty but also for its ornate statue of a Buddhist goddess. Aoshima Shrine holds significant cultural importance as it is believed to bestow blessings related to marriage, childbirth, navigation, and traffic safety. The island itself has a circumference of just 1.
Beautiful shrine on a small island you can access by walking across a short bridge. The seashore is very unique due to the seabed being created by sandstone and limestone (I think?😅) and the sea has eroded the sandstone to create a ripple effect around the island. The sand is coarse and there are loads of seas shells for the kids to find. The shrine is small and secluded by the tropical plants of the island. It is quiet and intimate which gives a great feeling of connection with nature. If you look to the right of the main shrine there is a small road through the forest with a fallen tree blocking the way to get to another smaller shrine. It is well worth taking this path to get a feel for the flora on the island. A wonderful place to visit.

One of the most beautiful and extraordinary shire I've visited. It's in the middle of a small island surrounded with vegetation, connected to mainland with a beautiful bridge. Come and experience the peacefulness. The devils wash board surrounds the island too. Fantastic experience.

A small lovely shrine found in Aoshima Island. Surrounded by the beauty of nature. Such a beautiful view. The walk to the shrine really makes you appreciate the beauty of the island. It was an unforgettable experience.

Located beautifully on a small island, the experience begins even before you get there. The long bridge, the devils washboard, the sandy beaches, it’s such a nice and tranquil spot. I went early in the morning to watch the sun rise over the shrine. It was very nice!

This is a really awesome place to visit! This is more than just a shrine, it is an island and a beach as well. The rock formations here are really unique, and you'll often see people out hunting for crab while you stroll along the shore. The shrine grounds are really well-maintained. There are often events and things to see in the nearby park as you approach the shrine. It is a bit of a hike out to the island, so if you have mobility issues, keep that in mind when you visit. Overall a fantastic experience!

Peaceful and beautiful shrine! Located on a small island with unique rock formations. A perfect place for a relaxing walk and love blessings.
Savindi S — Google review
We visited this magical place in May this year. If you happen to be in the vicinity of Miyazaki, you should definitely not miss this natural phenomenon, which is called Oni no Sentakuita, or Devil's Wall. Looking at these formations, you feel the immense power of nature, which is capable of creating such beauty. Time your trip so that you can see Oni not only at low tide, but also at gradual inflow. And there is no geological beauty, but you can also walk along the coast of the island, visit the Aoshima Jinja shrine with a small tropical garden. I recommend a visit on a weekday.

Very calm and peaceful shrine! Set up on the mountain side surrounded by very old tall trees. Not too busy and accessible by foot easily.

Seems like there was some renovation going on when I went there (May 2025) so had to walk a big roundabout. Nice place with plenty of sitting places, some stalls and beautiful flowers. Would love to come back to visit when the renovations are done too :))
Helena W — Google review
The fauna found in this garden is not usually seen in the rest of the country, if you came from the subtropical pacific, its nothing new to you. The work they put in to growing and keeping these plants should not be overlooked. Great for a short scroll away from the touristy Aoshima scene, and immerse yourself in a make-believe Hawaii garden. Considering snacks from mainstreet and have a small picnic here!

Hot house, rainforest and gardens are beautifully kept and free. Bougainvillea mountain spectacular colours. So many people working there or are they volunteers? Anyway, pop in on your way to the beach or shrine

Toll road rest stop
Visitor Centers
Station Phoenix Road is a rest stop located on the Pacific Ocean, offering a picturesque view of coastal rock formations. Situated just south of the Horikiri Pass in Nichinan Coast National Park, it features an observation deck that provides stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean and the Devils Washboard. Visitors can also indulge in five popular flavors of soft-serve ice cream at this roadside station. Additionally, there is a souvenir shop offering various items such as biscuits, snacks, drinks, and alcohol.
Very nice stopover peak overlooking the ocean. There's an ice cream soft serve shop here that serves a unique flavour which my family and I like very much. There's also a souvenir ship that sells the usual biscuits, snacks, foodstuffs, drinks, and alcohol. They also have a seashell/corals section and a small plants section. Go up to the third floor of the building to get a sweeping panoramic view of the surrounding area and the ocean. Walk out to the lookout point across the road to get closer to the oceanic viewpoint. We came here on a Sunday, and because we stayed long enough (1.5hrs), we were able to see very cool motorcycle convoys, as well car enthusiasts with their modified rides stopping by for a break. I even managed to spot a Honda NSX! What a treat!
Garett L — Google review
It opens untill 5 pm. But it almost clases before the time. We arrived 15 minutes to 5, but the icecream shop was completely closed and the main shop was also busy preparing closing. Not sure if that was because it was a weekday in the winter time.

We found out the restaurant was closed last month so this time we dropped by with the lunch box for the picnic up on the hill. Wonderful view from there. It was better without the loud music from the shop...

You can see a unblocked ocean and 鬼の洗濯板. If you are passing by, it's worth to stay a while there to enjoy ice-cream there with 4 different tastes. The other 鬼の洗濯板 is located at Asoshima Island, which you can closely walk next to it or taking photo very closely.

Regional airport
Visitor Centers
Miyazaki Airport is located in Southern Japan and serves both domestic and international flights, with direct rail service to Miyazaki Station just 10 minutes away. The airport experiences a warm, temperate climate for most of the year, with December being the coldest and driest month, while June is the wettest. Despite some comments about its appearance, many travelers find it surprisingly clean and convenient, with open restaurants in the evening.
As a European tourist, I must say that I really enjoyed this small airport. The staff is helpful and efficient. The bougainvillea floral theme is very nice. A giant Pokemon awaits you, lovely souvenir stamps, local produce shops, and mangoes everywhere. Special mention for the beautiful and interesting stained-glass window with an an animated animation, that’s amazing in an airport. There is also an observation deck on the roof, which is great. I really had a good time waiting for my flight. (there is also a train station to reach the center of Miyazaki easily and quickly)
J-F C — Google review
I was really happy to see a huge model of an Alolan Exeggutor inside the airport and some photo spots with it. It's totally fitting since Miyazaki is surrounded by a lot of Palm Trees. There were several restaurants inside too and several souvenir shops are available too mostly at the 2nd floor. It was also easy to find the transportation areas.
Aibi Y — Google review
I love how they decorate the windows and even the glass walls of the plane connecting tunnels. There is a real size Alolan Exeggutor! Cute little airport. If only they have better selection of food and souvenirs for international departure.
Redd L — Google review
Miyazaki Airport is a fantastic little airport that delivers big on comfort, convenience, and charm. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a clean, beautifully maintained space that reflects the tropical warmth of southern Japan. 🌴✨ The layout is easy to navigate, and access to the train station directly from the terminal is incredibly convenient—just a few steps and you’re on your way to the city center in under 15 minutes! What really stood out to me were the local food options and souvenirs—delicious ramen, mango desserts, and Miyazaki specialties you won’t find in larger airports. Even waiting around is pleasant thanks to the relaxing atmosphere and fun touches like the life-size Alolan Exeggutor and the musical clock that plays hourly. Staff were polite, efficient, and helpful throughout. Security and boarding were smooth and stress-free. Honestly, this airport exceeded my expectations in every way. It may be small, but it’s one of the most enjoyable airport experiences I’ve had in Japan. Highly recommended if you’re flying in or out of Kyushu!
Arif A — Google review
This airport is well organized and has souvenir shops on the 2nd floor. Of course, you can enjoy local meals at the restaurants on the 3rd floor. At night time, the building is illuminated by pink based color lights as you can see from my uploaded pics.
Cozcoz — Google review
Interesting domestic airport. Not busy during the day we landed. The car rental pick-up point is easy to find and there is a train station too.
Khal E — Google review
Small local airport. There is more to see than you think. Sometimes we also hold events. A highlight is the 3rd floor clock that rings uniquely every hour. There are quite a few places to eat.
Platinum G — Google review
An airport that is friendly to all, accessible by bus, train, and four-wheeled vehicles. The place is shady even though the building capacity is not that big. The waiting room is also comfortable, they provide international flights to South Korea. It can be a destination if you don't want to go to Miyazaki by bus.

Steak house
Miyachiku Beef Teppanyaki Steakhouse in Miyazaki is a top choice for celebrating special occasions. The restaurant boasts a stunning interior with a grand piano, creating an elegant atmosphere. Despite the luxurious setting, the lunch course set menu offers great value for money, featuring high-quality Miyazaki beef that surpasses expectations. Guests are treated to a mesmerizing culinary show as skilled chefs expertly grill the melt-in-your-mouth tender cuts of beef right before their eyes.
It was an absolute pleasure to enjoy the course prepare by chef Miko. The beef set comes with appetizer, fried rice, free flow salad and drinks We ordered the A5 sirloin steak and the premium beef round steak. I enjoyed the latter much more. Beef quality is top notch, what an experience! Do come early when it opens if you are unable to secure a reservation online.

Outstanding experience at this teppanyaki. We had the dinner course and our chef was Hashiguchi-san. It was mesmerizing watching him cook! He had such amazing technique. Would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone wanting to try Miyazaki beef - it truly is the best type of beef in Japan.
Kellie T — Google review
One of the best, if not the best, teppanyaki in Miyazaki! The famous Miyazaki wagyu beef used is tender and nicely marbled. Our choice of sirloin steak was cooked to perfection, and it was singing in my mouth 😋 Juicy and tender and full of flavours paired with a touch of yuzhu & wasabi with a dash of salt!

We celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary at this wonderful establishment and everyone was so kind to us. The food of course was fabulous and so delicious. The nice folks even prepared a small dessert for us in celebration of our big day. Thank you so much again :)

We took a domestic flight and drove here, immediately after our international flight. 17 hours in total. TOTALLY WORTH IT Reservation is a must

Came here in May 2024. Took our chances and walk-in during lunchtime without making any reservations. Lucky for us there were seats available at 12:30pm. So, we just need to wait for half an hour before we were seated. The restaurant was full, so we’re really lucky. Strongly advise to make a reservation before coming here. The food was very good and the service was excellent Smoking area outside. A special thank to a staff, Mr. Takeshi Takasaki for his amazing service, assistance and patience with us and our limited Japanese vocabulary.
Khal E — Google review
Would give 6 stars if I could. My friends and I had an excellent experience at this Miyachiku branch. The food is amazing. The quality of beef is comparable to Kobe beef, but isn’t as expensive. The price of the dinner course here is about the price of a lunch course in Kobe. Get the 厳選ロース (prime sirloin) if you want the luxurious feeling of beef fat melting in your mouth, and the 厳選ヒレ (prime tenderloin) if you want a less fat, more meat, but equally soft experience. The vegetable soup was just meh, but I absolutely appreciated how the sautéed vegetables included green leafy vegetables and not just root veggies. Salad bar was ok, had a couple choices of greens, cherry tomatoes, and some Japanese-style veggies. Nothing too impressive, but it was nice to have options for fresh vegetables. There were also some sweets like yogurt, chocolate mousse, and mixed (canned) fruits. None of the latter were very good though. The fried bread with your choice of topping (matcha, cinnamon, or cocoa) was much nicer, as long as you don’t think about the amount of beef fat and butter it’s already absorbed. Service was also top-notch. We were lucky to get a talented bilingual chef, Mr. Tsukano, who spoke excellent English. He made small talk with us and let us know when he was about to set our steak on fire, even advising us to use slow-mo to record it so we could delight our inner pyro with a beautiful flaming video. He definitely helped make our night, so a special shout-out to him. There was also live piano music for like 10-15 minutes at 8, which was a nice touch. The branch is a little out of the way, next to a giant Aeon mall, so it’s best accessible by car, but there is plenty of free parking on site. The only downside is reservations are only accepted by phone. Overall, extremely satisfied with the experience and would certainly recommend.
Crystal T — Google review
Had an early lunch at Miyachiku with my family of four (2 adults and 2 kids). We ordered the premium sirloin and tenderloin courses as well as children meal sets of steak and hamburger steak. Chef Oida was friendly and cooked excellent food. The steaks were delectable and melts in your mouth. The fried rice and stir fried vegetables were delicious too. The last course of toasted bread with butter and toppings of either sugar or cinnamon or green tea was tasty as well. The restaurant also provides free flow salad bar and beverages. The overall experience was great and the pricing is reasonable.

If you're in the mood for a satisfying bowl of udon noodles, look no further than Kama-age Udon at Togakushi. This unassuming spot offers a delightful serving of udon topped with yuzu citrus peel and egg, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. In addition to their signature dish, they also serve tofu-wrapped inari sushi for those looking to explore more traditional Japanese flavors. (Translated by Google) On a night in Miyazaki, after a night of drinking, one thing you crave is... kamaage udon. I went to the Togakushi Honten, which is as popular as "Oda Takigi." The appeal of this restaurant is that you can choose not only udon but also soba noodles. This time I ordered the classic "Kamaage Udon with Egg (regular) 800 yen." First of all, the broth is exquisite. It has a slight sweetness and is so light and delicious that you'll want to drink it all up. The udon has an exquisite balance of smooth and chewy texture, and the moment you take a sip, the feeling of it going down your throat is addictive. What's more, the restaurant is lined with autographs of celebrities. I was so captivated by the sight, thinking, "People like this were here too!?" There were many customers despite it being late at night, and it's clear that this restaurant is loved by locals as well. Eating them at the end of a night of drinking is a comforting and relaxing experience, making them the ultimate finale. Western restaurant
Ogura Honten in Miyazaki City is a renowned spot for savoring Western-style fried chicken, particularly known for its chicken nanban served with tartar sauce. This eatery has been serving this dish since 1965 and is located near Tachibana sanchome intersection. While it's popular among tourists, some locals prefer enjoying chicken nanban along with other dishes at different restaurants rather than exclusively at Ogura Honten.
The restaurant is hidden in an alley behind a department store. I got there about 10 minutes before it opened at 11 am and the waiting list for the first batch of customers was full (around 20 groups). The nice staff lady told me to be back at 11:30 am. I did and was seated within 5 minutes or so as people do eat fast especially for those who came on a business trip and wanted to taste the local food. Food was excellent and came with a big portion of rice. If you are used to Nanban Chicken in other prefectures that is just normal chicken karage with tartar sauce, you will get to eat something very different here.
C L — Google review
Luckily there were no queue when we went. There were 2 floors with several tables available. It was a bit old but it was neat & has a homey ambiance to it. The staffs were nice too. I ordered the Chicken Nanban. I was really excited to try it. The portion was generous but sadly taste wise it was okay. I was hoping for a bit more. It was still a great experience to try it while in Miyazaki.
Aibi Y — Google review
The place was packed! The place was recommended to us by a local. You can only pay in cash. The food was good. Worth waiting an hour outside in the heat? No. But Chicken Nanban is a Miyazaki speciality and other restaurants were closed. You have to write your name on a list and then you can leave and come back before your name is called. We were worried about missing our names being called so we waited in front which wasn’t smart.
Olympe — Google review
Visited to satisfy my curiosity as to how the original chicken nanban would taste. To be honest, if you didn't tell me the dish was chicken nanban, I wouldn't have thought it was chicken nanban. Everything was different from the "modern" renditions: - the type of meat used (breast meat) - the way it's cooked (no crispiness to it) - the type of sauce used (a mild-tasting sauce instead of the usual rich tartar sauce with eggs) I still prefer the versions that have evolved to be the more commonplace ones (crispy, juicy thigh meat with an eggy tartar sauce, yes please!) FYI: I arrived at 1130am on a weekday and was #25 in line. I got seated at 1145am, which fortunately wasn't too long of a wait. But I would never do it again now that I know what the dish tastes like.
RJ — Google review
Supposedly the birthplace of Miyazaki’s specialty Chicken Nanban. After this, you will find all other chicken nanbans different and incomplete. I was expecting to be more of a waiting time to get in or a longer line, but I suppose that going on weekday before noon worked. We came in and waited like 5 minutes to be seated upstairs – I had thought the house only had one floor. The traditional chicken nanban item is already too big, so unless you have a huge appetite I wouldn’t suggest you to even increase the size of rice. There’s also the option of having half chicken and half hamburg steak, which looked good too.

By the time we left the restaurant, there were more than 20 people in line. Speaking of Miyazaki, we had high expectations for the chicken nanban! The chicken was made from the meat of the chicken's breast. It is quite large and has a great impact on the appearance. The tartar is slightly pink, giving the impression of an aurora borealis sauce. The chicken nanban with a lot of this tartar sauce is a moment of bliss. It is delicious. We had prior information that there were more tourists than locals, but on the day of our visit, there were some businessmen as well. I thought it was a well-known restaurant loved by the local community. It was delicious!

Fantastic chicken Nan dish. The homemade tarter sauce was ok, I just prefer American traditional tarter sauce. The chicken breast was cooked well with little to no fat. Big portions here. I could have split the dish and been ok. Small resturant but cute and great service!

At ぐんけい本店 隠蔵, guests can savor a unique dining experience centered around chicken prepared in various ways. Whether it's grilled over charcoal, fried in breadcrumbs, or served sashimi-style, the restaurant offers a diverse selection of chicken dishes that are unlike any other. While some may find the concept of consuming raw chicken surprising, others appreciate the distinct flavors and textures it offers.
This place had all the local chicken dishes. Charcoal grilled chicken thighs were woohoo good...I dare you to try the seared chicken!

We had family dinner there for the 1st time. If you love chicken meat might be the best but if you don't like raw meat better order different items. Raw meat for the strong people who can handle raw. I love the sorbet so tasty

Charcoal grilled chicken was good and the chicken Nanban was very good. The restaurant has space and ordering was easy in english

Chicken was different from any other chicken I had before. It's almost fully cook. Very flavorful, but I wish someone would let me know before hands that I will be consuming raw chicken. However, compare to their tappan chicken, i like their raw chicken salad more.

Yakiniku restaurant
Miyachiku is a modern restaurant with several locations across Miyazaki, offering teppanyaki and charcoal-grilled meat. The main branch offers reserved teppanyaki and popular yakiniku. The venue has an older look with two entrances, but it has stood the test of time. They offer a seasonal special Miyazaki wagyu sirloin set which is pricier but excellent.
Had lunch here. Food is great. I don't know much about beef. But at least I can say you wont feel bad.
Charlie Z — Google review
It's very highly rated but I found the food just above average. Decent meat, pretty good dishes like kimchi and beef stew. The tablet based order system is barely usable and somehow it has less items than the printed menu.
Li L — Google review
Recommended by the Front Desk from ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki. We couldn’t find an all-you-can-eat buffet place so found the next best thing! We got the set dinner menu for two - which costs 10,980¥ for two. This set consists of 6 different types of beef, 4 of which are Miyazaki beef. They have various cuts of beef for you to try and you get around 2 pieces per cut. My favorite would have been either the sirloin or loin. As this was insufficient for our beef cravings, we ended up ordering an additional portion of Miyazaki Tenderloin(5,500) ¥and Miyazaki “Dragon” cut (4,800¥). You can order the meat in ala-carte portions, don’t put your high hopes up that the size is large - most of them would be 80-100 grams per serving. The good thing is that by ordering the set, you also get access to the salad bar. Cold noodles was meh.. you can skip that. Other than that, the dinner experience was amazing and interesting. Highly recommended!

Miyachiku has several locations across Miyazaki. We reserved teppanyaki at their main branch. They also offer yakiniku which seemed really popular while we were there. The venue is a bit older and there're 2 entrances to the restaurant which was a little confusing but overall, it looks like these guys have withstood the test of time! We opted for a seasonal special Miyazaki wagyu sirloin set which was a bit pricier than their standard menu but it was excellent. The chef was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. We requested him to cook it based on his recommendation and it was sublime. Buttery soft with a mild beef flavor. He recommended a dab of salt and also wasabi which added a mild sweetness. The wagyu in Miyazaki is definitely worth trying and paying a little bit more. The equivalent course in Tokyo probably would have been 1.5-2x more. They speak some English and also have English menus. Definitely recommend coming here for a great wagyu teppanyaki experience!
Julian T — Google review
We came for the teppanyaki lunch and was not disappointed by the service and food. Highly recommend the Miyazaki sirloin. English service available.
Ryan T — Google review
The food was excellent and the chef was very excellent. It was a dream come true being able to come here and I’m definitely looking forward to coming here again someday!
Christopher T — Google review
You can choose to BBQ yourself or teppanaki style. I chose the teppanaki lunch set which comes with beef (2 different cuts) salad bar, soup, and dessert. Price was really good for the award winning beef. Service was excellent. Highly recommended.
Gary L — Google review
Recommended by hotel. Came away rather impressed. Food quality is super. Free flow of salad is rather good. Tried their supreme combo set. And the beef simply super. It melt in your mouth. Service quality is good. They have English and Chinese menu which made ordering rather easy.

Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Miyazaki, シキドオリこはる食堂 is a delightful eatery that captures the essence of local cuisine. Known for its refreshing Hiyajiru, or chilled soup, this dish perfectly complements the region's humid climate. The soup features a savory blend of dashi, miso, and ground sesame seeds with grilled fish like sardines and mackerel—ingredients that reflect the coastal bounty.
Large serving! Best Beef Curry in Japan! Oishi!

Tender mackerel with less salt, nanban (probably thigh meat) covered in sauce, and fluffy hamba. All of them are delicious. Miso soup is also delicious. There are only counter seats inside the store. There are no tatami tables. When it's crowded, groups may be seated separately. It's a bit hard to find; you'll see it once you walk in. The top Japanese bento place recommended by Miyazaki locals. They have six main dishes: mackerel, fried chicken, Nanban chicken, pork cutlet, hamburger patty, and stir-fried Miyazaki beef🐮 Overall, aside from the Nanban Chicken and the hamburger patty, which are highly recommended, the others were pretty average. It was quite crowded during mealtime. I even saw some people ordering the special sashimi set. Unfortunately, we don't have big appetites. And we'd already had sashimi the day before. Otherwise, we'd order everything. 🤣 I'd definitely give it a try if I had the chance. I think it's a great value. They offer high-quality food at a reasonable price. Konohana Kitchen is a must-visit eatery located near the beach in Aoshima, offering a variety of traditional soups including the regional hiya-jiru. Phoenix Seagaia Resort is a large resort in Miyazaki offering a variety of activities such as golf, horseback riding, and surfing. The resort features numerous amenities including multiple restaurants serving Japanese sushi and Italian cuisine. Guests can also enjoy the onsen with sauna and pools, while the spacious rooms offer beautiful sea views. Additionally, the resort has an outdoor pool open during summer and is located right next to a golf course.

Bit put of the way from the Miyazaki town. But hotel has everything you could want anyway. Decent gym, swimming pools, public and private onsens (private onsens are great, you have your own little rock pool and walled japanese garden). Spacious rooms and clean, tidy decor. Attentive and friendly staff
Jack M — Google review
An old luxury hotel that has been converted into a family resort. The hotel and its grounds are massive — I don’t recall ever seeing such a large complex, with a golf course and clubhouse, a football field, a conference center, and so on. The hotel area is so enormous that it is unlikely to ever be profitable, and for cost reasons maintenance has clearly started to be neglected, with the exterior beginning to deteriorate. The hotel is located so far from the city that a car or taxi is essential. There is also a shuttle bus available, but it runs infrequently. Service at the hotel was good and fast, but nowhere near what you would expect from higher-end hotels, let alone true luxury hotels. Even though the hotel is huge, it has not been designed for its current use as a family vacation spot. I have never seen such a crowded pool area, with so many children and families in the water that there was not even a meter of personal space. There are only a couple dozen seats, but an enormous number of guests. This was the situation every single day. The hotel also has a strange double standard when it comes to tattoo policy, which applies only to foreign tourists but not locals. Staff asked us to cover our tattoos, which was fine — we bought tape and covered them. However, we noticed that every day there were local guests at the pool with multiple tattoos, and staff allowed them to show them openly on several occasions. I have never experienced anything like this in Japan. For breakfast, you have to arrive before 7:00 a.m. if you want to avoid a 30–60 minute wait. This is completely unacceptable for a hotel in this price range. The hotel also offers other dining locations, for example in the conference center, but eating there is like being at a food fair, with a much smaller selection than at the main breakfast. This also clearly shows that the hotel was not designed for this kind of operation. There are areas in the hotel that are completely empty, filled with old furniture. It is obvious that the current owner does not know what to do with all the space. A very eerie place — a truly unusual experience. The views from the upper-floor rooms are fantastic, the onsen is beautiful, the breakfast is good, and room service and cleanliness are impeccable. This review is written about what was once a luxury hotel — but it is definitely not one anymore. It is, however, a very good family hotel.

Poor service… which is rare in Japan. I have never experienced such level of service in Japan - greeted by not so welcoming front desk staff, waited for very long to check in, didn’t explain where is the lift after passing me the room card which is confusing as this is a huge resort, carried luggage myself without any stuff help, and when I went up the card didn’t work so I had to come down to let the staff re-programme the card (no apology or explanation whatsoever).

Gardens
Florante Miyazaki, located near the Phoenix Seagaia Resort in Japan, is a botanical garden featuring native and imported plant species. The garden offers seasonal events and gardening courses for visitors to enjoy. It is known for its annual illuminations that add warmth and color to winter nights. Adjacent to the garden is the Miyazaki City Phoenix Zoo, famous for its flamingo show.
The Aoshima Subtropical Botanical Garden is a hidden gem in Miyazaki that’s absolutely worth a visit. Many parts of the park are free to enter, which makes it not only beautiful but also incredibly budget-friendly. The grounds are lush and relaxing, perfect for a peaceful stroll among exotic plants and vibrant greenery. There’s a lovely little café inside the garden where you can take a break and enjoy the serene surroundings. I especially loved the gift shop—it’s full of charming Miyazaki specialties and local products, all beautifully displayed. Just walking through the shop is a treat in itself! Whether you’re a nature lover, a casual traveler, or just looking for a relaxing stop near Aoshima, this garden offers a perfect mix of culture, scenery, and local flavor

We went here for the illumination. Since we arrived earlier before the illumination started. We walked around the park. Sadly, there were not much flowers around since it was winter. Not much to do but luckily there were some food trucks around when we went. The illumination started after sunset. I enjoyed seeing the sunset too. The illumination was beautiful but expect more people during those times. We went here by bus so make sure to know the time for the last bus from the area since it tends to be early. Enjoyed the illumination.

A well-landscaped garden but smaller than I expected. When I visited in April, there were many tulips and I even found a cherry blossom. Entrance fee of JPY600 is on the high side but if you are looking for a quiet place just to relax, this place is fine.

This is a very nice place to relax, have a picnic with family, friends, or a partner. There were many people who had picnic, brought their own mats and little tents. There are a few food trucks when we visited during the golden week. Entrance fee is ¥600 with free parking.

I was excited to visit this highly rated 'botanical garden', but sadly it was a huge disappointment. Very few flowers compared to other Japanese gardens we visited. Overall, it was very poorly maintained and many sections were closed off, despite charging full entry price. I would recommend skipping this and going to Miyako Botanic Garden Aoshima instead, which was spectacular!

We visited there in early March and saw many people were planting the flower seedlings. Not many tulip were blooming, but just some at the time. Still a beautiful day to walk around, though. The entrance fee was 310 yen, we needed to buy the ticket at the entrance, only by cash. There was a special event was on, which was a bonus to have a look around. The cafe was available only a few hours during the daytime. So it would be great to bring your own food, snacks and drinks for picnic. The parking was huge and spacious.

The Miyazaki City Phoenix Zoo is a low-key animal park that offers visitors the chance to see a variety of exotic creatures while also enjoying an amusement park, water slides, and pool. Located just 10 minutes away from the Sheraton hotel in Miyazaki, this zoo is surrounded by nature and provides reasonably priced rides for its guests.
This is a really good zoo for kids. It's big but still walkable with young age children. There are lots of different animals, I.e. elephant, giraffe, tiger, etc. Not much people during weekday which makes your visit very relaxing.
Louis C — Google review
This zoo is totally inadequate in terms of size and quality of enclosures for the animals they have here. There is hardly any natural shelter and the animals have such a poor quality of life compared with other zoos around the world. I suspect the positive reviews are only referring to the amusement park. I felt so sorry for the elephant. Terrible.
Sayaka T — Google review
If you visit at Miyazaki and stay at Sheraton hotel this zoo is worth to visit. From Sheraton hotel it takes less 10 min by car. This zoo combined a fair and zoo. Zoo area is surrounded nature. Each ride cost is reasonable price. Most expensive ride cost is ¥300.
Pete — Google review
there are so many places to enjoy the rides, long walks and good food. Can't wait to come back to japan.

Spacious and not at all crowded. The animal enclosures are mostly good though some like the lions, tigers and orangutan are rooted in the past
Yumiain S — Google review
I imagine it's economically difficult running a small zoo and this one deserves support. We were fortunate to be able to listen to a worker explaining about the tigers lives, while feeding them. Interesting stuff.
Larry C — Google review
Whoever thought of putting an amusement park inside a zoo? - Great idea! But they like to charge. Parking 400 yen, rides per person around 300 yen each. We did notice lots of people had wrist bands getting on all the rides for free but we weren't offered the opportunity to purchase them. There is also a basic restaurant and gift shop on site. The restaurant meals were about 900 yen for adults and about 550 yen for kids meals. They are renovating the zoo at the moment and the new enclosures are much better than the old. Well worth it though. We even saw a black swan feeding the fish all by itself!
Eugene G — Google review
Zoo inside the Phoenix zone of Miyazaki, near the coast. Reachable with a free shuttle. I went there on Tuesday evening, so few people were visiting the park, I counted 4 people other than me. Anyway, after paying I received a map and I started to walk to see animals. Honestly, they are a bit sad and I thought they were like that because of the state of enclosures, small and with very few details remembering animal's habitat. It was a pity. There are several species, but after one hour I finished my visit and went away. There are services inside, like a restaurant and a pool.

Hitotsuba Inari Shrine is a captivating place with its 1000 vermillion-lacquered torii gates, reminiscent of Fushimi Inari in Kyoto. Constructed in the 8th century by Emperor Keiko's imperial rescript, it is believed to bring blessings of prosperity in business. The shrine features a money blessing shrine called Zeni-arai jinjya where visitors can wash their coins in holy water for blessings.
It was 5 mins drive from the Florante Miyazaki. The free parking was beside the entrance. There were a few more people while we were there. This shrine has the benefit of prosperous business. There were the statues of foxes that messenger of Inari God. There was a water basin, Zeniarai, which was believed that more money would return with spending the money after washing there. The shrine was small, beautiful, clean, and well maintained. It was worth walking around the main building to check it from the behind.

The Miyazaki Shrine in Japan is an ancient Shinto shrine made of cedar, surrounded by woodland hiking paths. It is one of the Jinguu shrines related to the first Emperor, and boasts a great and majestic style with its important cultural properties. The area is vast and peaceful, with birds singing and sunlight shining through tree leaves making it a charming oasis. Visitors can also purchase many souvenirs including various kinds of amulets.
I really enjoyed Miyazaki Jingo and the surrounding small forest area. Larger than many shrines and makes for a nice stroll. While visiting I was lucky to catch some chanting/singing - it’s a meditative experience.
Christian L — Google review
The shrine itself is beautiful, but the surrounding forest is surprisingly nice. There are rows of tall trees that make it hard to believe that this is downtown Miyazaki. There is a forest path leading to the museum, and it is very beautiful. It won't be easy to find as it doesn't appear on the map.
Sona — Google review
A peaceful and sacred place surrounded by nature. Miyazaki Jingu is beautifully maintained, with a serene atmosphere that invites you to slow down and reflect. The tall cedar trees, elegant architecture, and quiet paths create a truly calming experience. It’s not crowded, which makes it feel even more special. A must-visit spot if you’re in Miyazaki and want to feel a deeper connection to Japan’s spiritual heritage.

The Sheraton Grande Ocean Resort is a luxurious hotel offering stunning panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. With 6 restaurants, a hot spring spa, and a bar, it provides various dining options and relaxation experiences. The hotel's location in Miyazaki allows guests to enjoy both ocean and mountain landscapes in a warm climate while savoring delicious cuisine accompanied by glasses of shochu.
We stayed at Sheraton Miyazaki to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, and it was a truly memorable experience. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special, even surprising us with a complimentary chocolate treat that added a lovely personal touch. The atmosphere was relaxing, the service impeccable, and every detail made us feel welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for making our anniversary so special!

Nice hotel in a great location. Facilities were good. Abundance of parking spots. Only downside personally are the rooms seem to be outdated such as the furniture. The rooms are still clean and in no ways in bad condition. Probably one of the better places to stay in Miyazaki.
Victor Y — Google review
This is a hard review. I'm not sure if its because of the recent change from Sheraton toPhoenix or if this is the usual service you get. The good parts first: The room was really big and clean, the onsen was pretty nice too and not too full (in summer though). The not so good: - The place is huge and you get 0 information during checkin (yes I did speak japanese with them), you're expected to find out everything yourself which is ok, but not for the price that the hotel costs. It felt more like a cheap business hotel. Although I usually at least get the information where the elevator is and where you can get breakfast but not even that was provided. Later realized that there is a map of the place, would've been usefull - The food (we had the buffet style dinner plan) The quality and choice of the dinner is really bad. Everyone in our group agreed to this. The alcohol is either a all you can drink or a small beer starting at 900 Yen. I would absolutely not recommend a dinner plan and look for a better and more reasonable priced place in the vincinity - This brings me to the last point, you need a rental car to enjoy the location if you want to move freely, mainly because there's nothing close to the hotel (but we were aware of this factor and I don't count it as a minus in the rating) So why only two stars? I would ask myself if I come back to a hotel when rating it and here I do have to say that I would absolutely not. There are much nicer places and better offerings for a weekend or resort style gate-away
D D — Google review
I've stayed there 3 times (in September )and have had an excellent experience every time. My only complaint is that the pool has never been open at night. When it was open during the day it was crowded with kids. It would be great to have a separate adults-only pool, with drinks, open into the evening. That would make for a true resort experience.
M P — Google review
Rooms and facilities - Rooms are huge and have a good view. The whole place in general is old but well maintained. Service - Staff are generally nice but had a bad experience using the onsen. Forgot to take the towel at the entrance and when I asked for help from the male staff, he did help but gave attitude. If you do not want people to forget towels then keep them inside the onsen like what many other onsen does! Another thing I dislike about Sheraton is that somehow they are super cheapo when it comes to room slippers. It is of the worst possible quality. Seriously, how much does a decent slipper cost? Just add it to the room pricing. Also, they assume everything has small feet? It only comes with one size and it is ridiculously small. Many other cheaper hotels that I stayed in gave them in two sizes and had much better quality. E.g. Stayed in Holiday Inn Express Hondae in this trip as well and the slippers were much better despite being a 3 star hotel. (Also stayed in Incheon Sheraton just a week ago and they had the same issue) One more thing about Sheraton is that they somehow used very poor quality pillows. Gave me neck aches. Location - This depends on what you want to do. If you want to play golf then it is good, otherwise it is so-so. Overall, after staying at several different hotels for this 2-months tour of Korea and Japan including Incheon Sheraton and Miyazaki Sheraton. I do not think Sheraton will be a brand that I will choose going forward. It is often more expensive but at the same time does not deliver quality.

AVOID! THIS IS NOT A RESORT. I am currently staying here at the moment, and it has been a disappointment so far. They advertised these places to visit however most places inside close early!!! How can check in be at 3pm but the kids play area closes at 5pm, the POOL CLOSES AT 6 PM! This would have been nice to know when we arrived and been informed by the staff. Claim to be a high class resort but shuts everything down before sunset.
Raymond — Google review
I had high hopes for this hotel - the infrastructure is lovely and iconic, but the basic amenities are sorely lacking. The toilet paper was lousier than the kind you get in public toilets and convenience store rest stops - it sticks to you so you end up with bits of toilet paper stuck in undesirable locations. WiFi was slow. The TV was tiny and pixelated. There was no moisturiser or cleansing lotion provided. Overall, this place has so much potential but it feels like someone tried to impose cost-cutting measures on a place that was built for luxury. No wonder the place is filled with tour groups that don't know any better. Would not recommend.
Joyce O — Google review
Perfect room with perfect costal view. Nice Japanese hallway to two different onsen. Also nice pool area with beautiful trees and romantic lighting. The buffet was good. And the shopping area was amazing with nice selections of food and drinks.

If you're a fan of Japanese cuisine, then you must try the famous Chicken Namban at 味匠 -本店-. I went there around 11:30 and it was full...but I was surprised to find that the restaurant inside is connected to the Mos Burger next door, so you can eat there! (Translated by Google) A spicy, sweet, and rich taste with lots of garlic. It's not tasteless, but it's not delicious either. It's unusually spicy. Even at level 2, it's still spicy for me... Soy sauce ramen is delicious. It's an unusual taste that's worth trying once.

(Translated by Google) I had the delicious spicy garlic ramen with super 2 levels of spiciness. I asked for garlic and back fat. It was truly deliciously spicy! It was just the way I like it, and I couldn't help but exclaim, "Delicious!" It had more body and punch than Miyazaki spicy noodles, and the thick pork slices were seared on the outside and delicious! It was addictive and very delicious. Thank you for the meal

(Translated by Google) I was looking for something spicy and this restaurant came up. Many reviews said it was delicious!! And it was spicy!! So I decided to give it a try. It was as delicious as the reviews said. I ordered the spicy mixed noodles with an extra level of spiciness. In Miyazaki, spicy noodles are usually rated at 10, so I thought it would be fine, but since it was my first time, I thought I'd start with a moderate level just to be safe...but be careful! It was super spicy. I love spicy food, so the direct spiciness was incredibly delicious. It wasn't just spicy, but also had a strong flavor, and it was so delicious that I think I'll be hooked for the first time in a while. I wanted to have extra rice, but I was full so I gave up this time. I definitely want to try it next time. I had work the next day so I went easy on the garlic, but it was quite strong, so I recommend going easy if you have plans or work. The reviews said the staff were friendly, but the female staff member was unfriendly. They seemed to be working with a sluggish look. The male staff member was always smiling and welcoming. I think first-time customers might not understand how the store works, so I thought it would be best if they could at least explain it to me with a smile.

(Translated by Google) I was curious after reading the reviews and saw that it had good ratings, so I visited for the first time. To start with, I had the spicy garlic ramen and cartilage. The reviews said it was delicious, but when I actually tried it, it had a slight sweet taste after the spiciness, and I didn't really find it very tasty. You can choose whether to add back fat or not, and I tried it, but it was a bit of a tricky combination with the spicy noodles. Masumoto has by far more egg. I prefer Masumoto's standard spicy noodles because they have more flavor and richness. But it was just generally delicious! They also had a variety of other dishes such as mazesoba and soy sauce ramen, so I'd like to try those next time! Thank you for the meal 🙏 (Original)

(Translated by Google) I came here on a recommendation from an acquaintance! It was my first time at a spicy noodle restaurant, but I didn't know how to order, so the staff explained it to me in detail, which was very helpful. The taste was very good, and it was my first time eating cartilage, but it had a sour taste that I liked. I would like to visit again if I have the opportunity.

Sushi restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Isshinzushi Koyo is a sushi restaurant situated at the east exit of downtown. It stands out for its unique feature of having the chief directly in front of you while preparing your sushi. The prices range from 8640 yen and above for a set of 10 sushi, which may intrigue customers. The quality of their sushi is exceptionally good, with a variety of fish caught in Miyazaki that adds to its deliciousness.
Unbelievably delicious sushi. They serve a decent amount of fish caught in Miyazaki, never knew it could be this good. The manager has a ton of game and is a wonderful host. Very funny guy and a warm prescence. This is a must visit for anyone coming through Miyazaki. Their menu offers a wide range of pricing for lunch, you can get a ¥5500 set to the ¥23000 omakase. Can't wait to go again.

(Translated by Google) This was my first time visiting. It was during the summer holidays, but we were hit by a linear rain band that paralyzed traffic. Apparently there were quite a few cancellations, so there were only a few groups. Everything, from the appetizers to the sake pairings, was left to your discretion. The drinks were also amazing. From rare varieties to expensive, unaffordable drinks (wine and sake), each was carefully selected to match the sushi and appetizers, resulting in a flawless combination. I had the happiest time. Finally, I discovered that the owner is from the same hometown as me. It's a high-end restaurant, so it's not easy to visit, but if you have the chance, I recommend it.

(Translated by Google) I finally made it to Isshinzushi! The balance of sourness, umami, sweetness, and texture was perfect, and it made me smile. The harmonious relationship between the chef and his son was also very pleasant. If I come to Miyazaki next time, this is a restaurant I'd definitely like to visit again. Thank you for the meal!

(Translated by Google) It was a wonderful experience in a lovely atmosphere. They made my sushi in a private room, so I was able to enjoy the privacy of the space. Everything was excellent, and although the rice has a strong red vinegar flavor, it went well with the toppings, and is pleasant for me as I love vinegar. Thank you for the meal!
