Luxor Temple is a magnificent complex that was primarily built under the reigns of Amenhotep III and Ramesses II, with contributions from Tutankhamun and others. Situated on the West Bank of Luxor, it is part of a spectacular collection of historical attractions that offer insight into Egypt's rich history.
Lovely place to visit! When we arrived there was no queue. You can buy tickets online for almost all visits to temples in Egypt via egymonuments, which can be useful during busier times.

Really cool temple to see with big pillars, even thought size doesn’t matter, they are still huge. It says it closes at 7pm on Google but it actually closes at 8pm, last entry might be 7. Can walk around here for about an hour or 2 and see some really cool history. Would recommend visiting here when in Luxor, especially if you go at night or early morning.

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ A Photographer’s Dream — First Visit & Absolutely Blown Away! As a first-time visitor (and a photographer), Luxor Temple completely surpassed every expectation I had. The moment I walked through the entrance, I felt like I was stepping into a living story thousands of years old. The scale, the details carved into every stone, and the way the light hits the columns — especially at night — is a visual masterpiece. I’ve photographed many incredible locations, but Luxor Temple holds something truly unique: history, artistry, and emotion all in one place. The night lighting adds an extra layer of magic — every corner is a captivating frame waiting to be captured. Beyond the photography, just being there is unforgettable. You feel the weight of ancient civilization, the magnificence of the pharaohs, and the spirit of Egypt all around you. Highly recommend adding this to your must-visit list — whether you’re a history lover, traveler, or creative soul — Luxor Temple is the definition of awe-inspiring. I’ll cherish this experience forever!

A beautiful temple with rich history. Walking through the temple it feels like you are stepping back into time. If you can visit it as the sun set, you can get beautiful pictures. Make sure you have a guide with you to explain all the history to you.
FJ L — Google review
This stunning temple sits in the middle of Luxor and it shows the different time periods and it's such a good representation of how people lived both inside and around the temples often not even understanding the historical value of them this temple has a mosque and also an Old Church that were built in the different times of occupation

Luxor Temple is an ancient Egyptian temple in the heart of Luxor, built over 3,000 years ago. It’s famous for its huge statues, grand columns, and the Avenue of Sphinxes that once linked it to Karnak Temple. At night, the temple is beautifully lit, making it one of the most magical sights in Egypt
Ali R — Google review
This is a must if in Luxor and wanting to visit historical and ancient sights. The temple is located right in the middle of city centre and even offers night shows accompanied with glow in the dark lights. Really enjoyed our visit here and its small enough to do quickly if needed!
Rajiv S — Google review
I visited Luxor Temple around three years ago during a short trip to Luxor. The place is stunning and full of amazing ancient details, especially the huge columns and carvings. The entry process was easy, and everything was well organized. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Egyptian history.

Sofra Restaurant & Cafe in Luxor is a charming culinary spot that provides an authentic experience of Egyptian cuisine. Housed in a traditional and vibrantly decorated building, the restaurant emanates a friendly ambiance that mirrors Egyptian warmth. The menu features a diverse array of local dishes, including delectable mezzes, flavorful mains such as molokhia and tagens slow-cooked in clay pots, and delightful desserts like Om Ali.
Probably the best food we ate in Luxor. We had a selection of cold and hot mezze, all vegetarian, and they were all dishes we’d order again. The feta cheese dip was really excellent, in particular. We also ordered the moussaka, baba ghanoush, hummus, pickled vegetables, stuffed seasonal vegetables, grilled eggplant and felafel. It’s a bit of a hike from where we were staying (at the winter palace) but well worth it.

Sofra is a great spot for authentic Egyptian food. The price are excellent for the quality. Ragab, the waiter, gave us amazing service, and the place is really charming.

Every single meal was amazing (we went three days for lunch to Sofra) and the service was amazing. Seats and tables are comfortable and the waitresses are kind and willing to help you for any kind of question. Could really recommend this place !!

I had an amazing dining experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, not too salty — every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxing, perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. The staff were very friendly especially Mr. Ragab, who provided exceptional service and made our visit even more enjoyable, attentive, and professional. Everything from start to finish was just perfect. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely come back again!

Absolutely lovely - a relaxed place with a great selection of authentic local foods (try the upside down aubergine with mince and rice!) The staff was really friendly, the prices were more than fair (two people ate like kings for about 20€) and the atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for after a hectic day. 10/10 would come again!

Abu Haggag Mosque

4.7
(1722)
Mosque
Abou al-Haggag Mosque, also known as the Mosque of Abu Haggag, is a historic mosque located within the Luxor Temple complex in Egypt. It was built above the ruins of a 1300s temple and is considered an ancient center of worship dating back to the reign of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. The mosque is named after Youssef, a local Muslim leader who spread Islam in the area and cared for Muslim pilgrims.
Abu al-Haggag Mosque in Luxor is a unique religious site built atop the ruins of the ancient Luxor Temple, blending Islamic and Pharaonic history. Dedicated to Sheikh Yusuf Abu al-Haggag, a revered Sufi saint, the mosque is an active place of worship and a center of cultural heritage. Its location within the temple complex creates a striking juxtaposition between ancient Egyptian and Islamic architecture, symbolizing the continuity of spiritual practices across centuries in Luxor. Sheikh Yusuf Abu al-Haggag was a revered Sufi saint, preacher, and spiritual leader who lived during the 12th or 13th century CE. Originally from Iraq, he later settled in Luxor, Egypt, where he became known for his piety, wisdom, and dedication to teaching Islam. Sheikh Yusuf played a significant role in spreading Sufi traditions and fostering a spirit of unity and spirituality in the region. He is particularly venerated in Luxor, where the Abu al-Haggag Mosque stands as a tribute to his legacy. His influence extends beyond religious teachings; he is considered a symbol of the blending of Islamic culture with the rich heritage of ancient Luxor. His life and work are celebrated annually during the Moulid Abu al-Haggag, a vibrant festival featuring processions, music, and community gatherings, reflecting his lasting impact on the city's spiritual and cultural identity.
Sakho F — Google review
The Abou al-Haggag Mosque is one of the most remarkable examples of Islamic architecture in Luxor, Egypt. Uniquely, it is built directly on top of the ancient ruins of the Luxor Temple, symbolizing the continuity of sacred spaces from ancient Egypt to the Islamic era. The mosque is named after Sheikh Abou al-Haggag, a 12th-century Sufi saint whose tomb lies within the complex. The mosque’s architecture reflects traditional Islamic design, featuring a minaret, prayer hall, and a small courtyard. Its whitewashed walls and modest scale contrast with the monumental stones of the temple beneath, yet the combination creates a visually striking and historically layered site. Despite its modest size, it remains an active place of worship, particularly during festivals and Friday prayers. Visitors to Abou al-Haggag Mosque can also observe how the structure has adapted over centuries. Renovations and restorations have preserved its features while maintaining the integrity of the underlying pharaonic ruins. The mosque offers panoramic views of the temple complex. The mosque is a vivid reminder of Luxor’s long and diverse history. By standing atop the Luxor Temple, it represents the layering of cultures, beliefs, and architecture across millennia, making it a must-see site for those interested in Egypt’s historical continuity.
Lefteris S — Google review
A grand Mosque. The buildings are really pretty, but too many people, and lots of restrictions. There's fixed route you are allowed to go, and you can only take photos on designated areas. The guards are monitoring every tourist's activity. Ladies need to totally cover the hair. The guard will ask you to correct your hair piece if some of the hair exposed. Better check the dress code before you go.
J C — Google review
I didn't have enough time to enter the mosque but I enjoyed watching it from outside. It was impressive how it's build in the middle of Luxor temple.
Nora S — Google review
You can get a good view of Luxor Temple from up there, the old entrance of the mosque is also seen from inside the temple. You can visit it if you are not a muslim, just leave your shoe outside and make sure your sock or feet are clean and enter freely, you can check others praying, Abou al-Haggag Tomb and enjoy the view
Mohamed K — Google review
This masjid just next to Luxar temple. The masjid looks like is built at one part of the Luxor Temple. There are ancient Egyptian scripts, pillars and so on
Mohamed S — Google review
Abu Al-Hajjaj Mosque in Luxor ... Tucked away near Luxor Temple lies a peaceful gem: Abu Al-Hajjaj Mosque. Built in 1286, its simple square design whispers of ancient Fatimid mosques. Unfussy with its wooden roof and red brick balconies, it beckons you to relax and soak in its understated beauty. A hidden haven perfect for a quiet moment in the vibrant city.
Mohamed B — Google review
A small, old mosque in the middle of the Luxor temples complex. Comfortable enough for prayers, the mosque is only accessible from the outside of the temple complex, where it faces a wide, tiled square where people, hawkers & beggars usually hang out. The prayer hall is not that big & cool enough although not air-conditioned. The toilets are outside, downstairs & might use a bit more cleaning. The ablution areas are outside of the mosque near the entrance. There’s also a tomb inside the mosque, being said as the tomb of a Sufi Islamic saint in the Luxor area.

Found this place on google maps, if you can sit upstairs it’s such a nice rest from the chaos of the market. Abu Zizo was great at meeting all our needs. We ordered a variety of dishes from soups to grilled chicken, definitely recommend the kofta and the falafel is moist. I highly recommend a visit here.

Other good reviews are not wrong. Very relaxed place on the rooftop overlooking the Nile with views across to the valley of the kings - lit up at night. Food is excellent and a lovely chilled atmosphere with kind staff (even when busy). For a vegetarian there is a lot of choice between traditional Egyptian dishes. The Mahshi, Feteer and Sambousa all excellent. Other customers all seemed happy as well. I would highly recommend a visit here whilst staying in Luxor.

Had a wonderful dining experience at this lovely spot in Luxor! The food was incredibly tasty and fresh – every dish felt thoughtfully prepared with high-quality ingredients. Prices were very reasonable, especially given the prime location. What truly elevated the experience was the stunning view of the Nile River, just steps away from the majestic Luxor Temple – absolutely unforgettable! A special shoutout to Abu Zizo for his warm and friendly service. He made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived. Honestly, the food here was even better than what we had at the popular Khufu restaurant in Giza. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Luxor!

Located in the Nefertiti hotel. They have both a ground floor and upstairs area. The upstairs rooftop is definitely the place to go, great views of the temple and Nile. Food was excellent, and reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant. I would happily go back again and strongly recommend.

Banana Island is a must-visit destination in Luxor, offering a unique blend of ancient Pharaonic civilization and captivating natural beauty. The island is predominantly inhabited by lush banana trees and various caged animals, making it an intriguing stop for tourists. Visitors can embark on a private Felucca ride from the West Bank to reach Banana Island, with the option to enjoy stunning sunset views during the journey.
A hidden gem on the Nile! Banana Island is one of the most peaceful and charming places we visited near Luxor. Lush nature, banana plantations, and a relaxing atmosphere make it the perfect escape from the city. The boat ride was lovely, and the hosts were incredibly welcoming. Fresh bananas straight from the tree — delicious! A must-see stop on any Nile adventure.
Levente V — Google review
To be honest this is not the type of attraction I would normally visit but we came across this place while hiking on the West Bank of the Nile. We walked north from the southern bridge through a number of villages and met some lovely people. I felt quite sad about the animals at the attraction. It cost Egp 50 entrance fee and you get a bunch of bananas. The toilets are pretty good. Don't pay to much for the boat ride back to the East Bank.
Fred G — Google review
A pleasant spot for a short walk and a break in nature. The island offers greenery, banana plantations, and the chance to taste fresh local bananas. There’s also a small animal corner, but the conditions for the animals are poor and may leave a negative impression. The visit is usually part of an organized boat trip, which adds to the overall experience. A nice stop, but don’t expect anything spectacular.
Valentin I — Google review
The only good thing was boat ride. Banana trees... Are banana trees, on the other hand I have seen some poor animals closed in small cages, exploited for the fun of some people that are making money on expense of tormented creatures, if you are animal lover do not go there, it is the image of how Egipt treats animals, if some state authority exist like animal police or similar, they should close this place.
BOGDAN — Google review
I told my guide I wanted to see pigeon houses *cue full memory cards* and she took me to Banana Island. The guide there tried taking me through a standard tour. I said I just wanted the pigeon houses, so we went off path along some road deep into the banana tree forest and I got up close and personal with them! We were there for about an hour while I took pictures. He got me some bananas on the way out, which was nice! I have better pictures of the pigeon houses on my real camera, so don't judge these please...
Veronica P — Google review
The island alone is kind of a sad view. The banana plantation is nice and makes for cute pictures, however if you have seen similar ones in Egypt/Turkey before it is not really worth it. The animals at the "zoo" are held in terrible conditions and some animal rights societies should deffinitely get involved here as these poor monkeys and crocodilles are living in way too small enclosures and are just used as fun for tourists. The idea of entering a cage with a crocodile for a photo (maybe it is sedated, but still) also seems incredibly stupid to me. What I took away from this trip was the terrible life conditions of some people in Egypt. Imediatelly after arriving on the island by boat, many kids rushed to greet us, begging for money. The "houses" and "buildings" on this island also look deplorable and it is sad to imangine people actually live there. Everything here is just for comercial purpose. They will sell you drinks, fruits, pictures...anything just to get some money. Truely a heartbreaking experience. I feel like the money you spend on this trip is worth it, but not for the island itself but rather the "cruise" down the Nile wich is actually kind of nice.
Maria-Alexandra C — Google review
Banana Island is a nice place to visit, accessible by boat, and it offers a peaceful atmosphere along the Nile. The banana plantations are very interesting to see and give visitors a good impression of local agriculture. However, the part with the so-called zoo was very disappointing. The animals are kept in very small enclosures and in poor condition, which is quite upsetting. In my opinion, this “zoo” should be closed, as the banana plantation itself is more than enough of an attraction.
Marko C — Google review
The banana plantation is beautiful and also the Nile views are beautiful but please don't visit because you support the zoo and the conditions that they keep the poor animals is very bad.it makes my heart break to see the animals live like that, the crocodile is in a cage that barely can fit him...this is torture

Blue Sky Restaurant is a charming spot located on the banks of the Nile in Luxor. Visitors have praised the friendly service and delicious food, with particular highlights being the pizza and grilled chicken. The restaurant offers a large menu with extensive options, ensuring there's something for everyone to enjoy. Guests can also take in stunning views of the Nile and East Luxor from the upstairs area while savoring their meals.
We visited it not one but 3 times! The paintings on the wall and the view are really atmospheric! The food was the best we had in Luxor! The owner was very sweet and always helpful with whatever we needed! The stuff was also very polite and friendly! I would recommend it 100%
Stefi L — Google review
This was my third visit to Blue Sky, and while the grilled fish and pomegranate soda were just as delicious as I remembered, the overall experience left a lot to be desired. The veggie pizza lacked sauce, which made it dry, and the service was frustratingly slow—I waited 25 to 30 minutes, only for the waiter to forget both my salad and bottled water. What’s worse is that this isn’t the first time it’s happened. Consistency in service clearly isn’t a priority here. After giving it multiple chances, I won’t be dining at Blue Sky again. You’re honestly better off heading across the water to Metro or Fish House, where the food and service are far more reliable.

Very good food. I ordered the Moussaka, mixed salad, and hibiscus tea. Total 290. Moussaka Taste great!! The tea is awesome. It came with sugar on the side, so I didn’t have to add it in. They grow their own hibiscus flower and made the tea. Be sure to try that. Waiter here are also very friendly, great service. Beautiful Seating area upstairs overlooking the Nile river. Highly recommended!

Fast food restaurant
McDonald's Luxor is a classic fast-food chain offering the expected burgers and fries. Visitors can enjoy snacks on the 3rd floor with views, and find the prices much lower than European standards. The staff is friendly, and facilities are clean. Customers have found the food to be fresh, with fast service and good quality beef in their burgers. Some even consider it better than McDonald's in other locations.
Very good McDonald’s which is perfect when you want some trusted food with no hassle. There is some seats which have a great view of Luxor temple but seats in general are hard to get because it is very busy. Majority of the seats are on the 1st and 2nd floor so not the easiest because you have to go up stairs. Good is what you expect from McDonald’s and price is expensive for Egypt but cheaper than a European Mc Donald’s. The large drink is also huge much bigger than European size.

This place is good to dine in, I would recommend the seating on the second and third floors as it has a good view on the Luxor temple. The service was good and fast considering that the place was crowded at the time of my visit. The bathrooms are on the third floor. It is very close to the temple, around 3 minutes walk. Would also recommend visiting it at dinner times during sunset. It has air conditioning, which is great, especially in the summer.

The view and location is amazing. The guy at the billing try to scam me by showing one price on the bill and one on the screen. He charged me 60 LE extra. When I asked him he gave me another bill for medium coke. They give you coke without bill and try to scam you.. be aware

A peaceful escape in the middle of Luxor’s chaos. Luxor has a lot of persistent horse carriage drivers, and this place felt like a much-needed safe haven from all that. Just be cautious when stepping outside — some kids may come up to you and try to hassle you as well.

One of the best McDonald’s we have been to. Great views of Luxor temple and strong selection of food items. Even offers cakes and slushies!

I want to experience McDonald's in Egypt. The service staff is very good and friendly, and the food portions are also good.

I consider myself a seasoned traveler and usually make fun of people who go to McDonalds while on an international vacation. My husband wanted to go, so we went. And man, I wish I had gone sooner. What a contrast to the chaos outside the door in Luxor. This is clean, has screens to order from, tasteful decorations, they bring the food to your table and ask for no tips, and the BATHROOM is clean, has toilet paper, soap, paper towels and absolutely nobody in the doorway asking for tips.

Snack Time is a delightful spot that has garnered attention for its variety and affordability, all while offering stunning views. While some have noted a dip in quality compared to other fast-food options like McDonald's, the ambiance remains inviting. Diners can enjoy tasty meals, including grilled chicken with rice and salad, alongside the beautiful backdrop of Luxor Temple. The atmosphere is enhanced by the sounds of the adhan from a nearby historical mosque, making it an experience beyond just dining.
This was incredible. I’ve never willingly gave away so much baksheesh in my life. If you’re ever in and around Luxor don’t contemplate entering this establishment. Full marks - especially singing happy birthday to the cow we subsequently devoured. Remarkable.

The breakfast set is good. It includes a lot of small side dishes. The latte is nice as well. The staff is friendly and the service is fast. Nice view. You can enjoy the Laxor Temple view.

On the recommendation of our amazing guide Mohamed, we walked to Snack Time to enjoy dinner on a busy Thursday evening in front of the Luxor Temple. We were immediately greeted, welcomed and seated on the second floor outside on the balcony, enjoying the bustle of the street and people in the square. Our server was very helpful in understanding options and what the meals included. Once the food arrived, the servings were substantial and very tasty! The mixed grill came with soup, salad, Tahini, rice, and vegetables. The Falafel Wrap wa sizeable, also with fries and salad. Ordered Babaghanoush which came with several pitas and was much more than we could finish. All was flavourful! This restaurant is FULL value with reasonable prices and sizeable portions. We would definitely return upon next visit to Luxor!

I enjoy the ambiance and the view here, my food has always been good. It’s not a fine dining establishment but we enjoy the food. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the hamburger but everything else is what you expect. I love to hear the adhan from the beautiful historical mosque across the street. Shisha is available.

Another burger joint, tour guides will bring you here for their share of scamming you, claiming being one of the best "restaurants". Better real restaurants within walking distance. Not even a menu was presented to us. Asked for vegetarian options..ended up with salty spaghetti, a small salad and a soup of who knows of what.

Karnak is a massive temple complex in Luxor, Egypt, featuring well-preserved ancient ruins and over 200 structures, including the imposing Amen-Ra temple. The site offers private tours with pick-up services from hotels in Luxor, guided by knowledgeable Egyptologists. Visitors can explore the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, and Colossi of Memnon on this approximately 5-hour excursion.
This is usually the first stop of the big three. Karnak is simply mind blowing. You have to be there. Take enough time. And have water with you. You need two hours or more to see everything. Watch out that you get to shadow places to get a rest from the Sun. don’t start doing photos at the beginning. when you do the first walk into the temple just get all the impressions period without being distracted. Go to the halls watch every pillars walks through the right where is the holy sea and walk straight until you can’t go any further because they are still archaeological working on ongoing. Then take a similar way back and start doing photos. You will have an impression by now period. When you do photos of the pillars go down a little bit to get a bit of perspective. Period. I said have enough time with you it’s mind blowing.

If the pyramids weren't so very famous this would be the best place to visit. Beautiful to get lost between the huge columns and the obelisks. Sadly wasn't able to find the hand and the broken rest of the colossal statue of Amenhotep III that I saw in some YouTube videos since the place is massive and is completely sorrunded by scattered stones so the first and foot I was looking for could have been anywhere and also sone parts are closed because they are working on them.

The Luxor Museum, located on the West Bank of Luxor, is a treasure trove of ancient Egyptian artifacts. It boasts a remarkable collection that includes everyday items, artwork, sculptures, and even mummies. The museum's deliberate curation ensures that the quality of the pieces on display shines through in an uncluttered and well-labeled setting.
Amazing place, the best time to visit will be at noon, all the artifacts are indoors and the place is air conditioned, especially in the summer as most of Luxor's attractions are out doors and the weather is too harsh. The place is nice and well organized. It is also wheelchair accessible. In one section, there is a special escalator. There are restrooms near the ticket kiosk.
Кarim K — Google review
This museum is quite small, very quite a bit dark! I prefer more lighting in a room but that’s a personal preference. Some nice exhibits, well laid out. We went in the evening very quiet so I appreciated not being overcrowded like some other places.

An absolutely stunning museum that showcases the finest artifacts from Luxor’s rich archaeological heritage. Though not very large, the collection quality is top-notch, with every exhibit carefully curated and beautifully displayed. You’ll find well-preserved statues, pottery, royal mummies, and relics from the New Kingdom era — all presented with excellent lighting and clear English explanations. It’s air-conditioned, quiet, and offers a great escape from the heat and crowds of outdoor sites. Perfect for history enthusiasts who want to see ancient Egyptian art up close without the chaos of larger museums. 💡 Insider Tip: They let you photograph mummies here unlike other museums in Egypt.

This is a little gem that's not to be missed. Since it really isn't on the itineraries of most tours, you may need to dedicate some of your free time to make a visit... but you will also be treated to a museum that's not overflowing with people and you can take the time to enjoy the exhibits... which are impressive.
Arthur K — Google review
The Museum is well maintained and wheel chair accessible. For those who already visited GEM Museum and other museums in Cairo, this Museum might not give the wow factor got for the others. It was closed from 2pm to 5pm for break so visit hours had to be planned accordingly.

It was one of the best museums i have visited in Egypt. Not to big, not too small. We'll organize. It has some mummies and some historical pieces. Recommended.
Rachid H — Google review
Significantly smaller collection than the larger museums in Cairo but very spacious and a good break from the heat in Luxor. Exhibit descriptions are noticeably aging compared to the recent renovated sites but clear to read. Might be the clearest view of a mummy without having to fight a crowd of people. Mummy of Ahmose and a Royal Mummy. Nice section on Egyptian engineering, design and the measurement tools. Not often they get their own exhibit and I find them to be some of the most fascinating items. Card payment only, but worth the 400LE at the time I went 10/25.

The Mummification Museum, situated near the city center close to Mina Palace Hotel, offers a compact yet fascinating collection of artifacts and specimens related to ancient Egyptian mummification. Visitors can view mummified remains of animals like cats, fish, and crocodiles, along with tools used in the mummification process. Despite its small size, the museum provides detailed explanations of mummification methods and reasons for its practice.
It’s a small museum. One large room. You can get through it in 20-30 minutes. Highlights are a mummified crocodile, a cross section of a mummified skull and mummification tools. Recommend reading up online or in a guide book about mummification to get a better idea what you’re looking at. Worth a visit. Air conditioned. They take card.

Well hidden from the main road, it's on the pier level. You won't even see the sign until you are at the Kornish Al Nile and Mabad Al Karnak fork. (See pictures). It is a small Museum, we went first thing Monday morning about 9:30am after they opened. We had the place to ourselves (apart from the workers and security guards). It's only one room as other reviews have said, but some informative plaques on the mummification process and some mummy samples. Tickets were £220egp each, so it's gone up considerably, but still cheap compared to Western museums. The crocodile mummy wasn't as big as the ones we saw at the crocodile museum at Kom Ombo but still fascinating. Be mindful you will need to go up the staircase and walk in an anticlockwise direction to get to the middle of the exhibit (probably for crowd control). Only go here once you've seen everything else at Luxor, as we did.

This is a very small museum but different than being in the heat outside all day! It’s located right on the corniche very way to walk to if you are located right in the middle of the city. I must say it should be cheaper but if you want to see history sometimes we have no choice.

📍 Mummification Museum – Luxor, Egypt 🏺🧭 💡 Read till the end for an insider tip! A small yet fascinating museum located along the Nile, offering a deep dive into the art and science of mummification practiced by ancient Egyptians. While the entry fee is quite high for its size, the exhibits and explanations make it a worthwhile visit for anyone interested in ancient Egyptian preservation techniques. Inside, you’ll find visual documentation, real mummies, and tools used during the process — all displayed in a compact, air-conditioned setup. It’s also a great way to escape the afternoon heat 🌤️ Note that guides aren’t allowed inside, but the exhibit labels and descriptions are clear enough to explore on your own. 💡 Insider Tip: Visit this museum right after exploring Luxor Temple — it’s close by and usually less crowded in the morning. Take your time to read the info boards for a quick, self-paced historical refresher before heading to the West Bank 🏺
Theurbanhermits — Google review
Modern display, air-conditioned. But just one room for EGP220? And it does it misses out the first half of the mummification process: why do it; what did they expect of the afterlife; what is used in the embalming process, how to extract the organs; why not save the brain what happens to the heart. There is a good looking human mummy. Only one? There should have been more items. Try Luxor Museum instead, I was told.
Bill L — Google review
As you walk in to the museum on the left hand side is a pictorial view detailing the time line and process of mummyfication which is simplistic but very informative. On our visit there was only one other visitor. Access to the museum is down a number of steps. There is a seating area outside overlooking the river Nile.

Luxor offers a plethora of activities beyond exploring its archaeological wonders. Visitors can enjoy a hot air balloon ride, a Nile cruise, or a private felucca trip. The city also boasts the extraordinary Sound and Light Show at Luxor Temple, where visitors can walk through the temple while experiencing the captivating presentation.
This evening we had the pleasure of seeing the sound and light show at Karnak Temple with our driver Moussa. It was also his first time as a tour rep. Maussa took us to the entrance and the through to the second security check point where he left us and instructed us to meet him back at the car park once finished. Getting to see Karnak Temple at night was amazing as it has been the only time we have been able to see these beautiful monuments at night whilst here. The sound and light show took you back in time with its historical recordings from what sounded like famous people, mixed with some timeless music it was like watching a 1970's movie. As we entered the story continues through each gate, telling stories of Pharaoh's long ago and the parts that they had erected. Until you get to the sacred Lake inside. This is where the main part ending take place once you have taken your seat in this grand open air theatre. The whole thing last for around an hour with plenty of opportunities to take some beautiful videos and photos of the hieroglyphs, statues and Obelisks. Once the sound and light show finished we returned to the car park to meet Moussa. On the way back he stopped at two locations. One was on a bridge to take photos of Spynx avenue from above. The other was at the road side where he treated us to a local drink. A cold sugar cane drink which was both unexpected and appreciated. It was such a treat to end the night with and it was great to taste something local as it's been beer coffee and Pepsi since being here. Moussa also stopped quickly for us to take a photo of Luxour Temple lite up which again was appreciated. When we got back to the hotel, afterwards and spoke to the gentleman that booked our trips whilst here. he said that Moussa had requested to take us to the Sound and light show which was really kind. Moussa is currently learning English with the help of the tour company and even though there was a barrier his kindness, warm smile and generous nature spoke words for him. I look forward to returning and I think I'd make the effort to try and learn some Arabic, enough to get by and for pleasantries at least. Both moussa and Abdullah have been amazing on this trip and have been a pleasure to have for company as we explore Egypt for the first time.
Christopher J — Google review
Average at best. Sounds quality is 50% clear, 50% muffled by overpowering the speakers that it makes the sound very hard to make out. For non English speakers it's impossible. The script for the audio is written for fluent English speakers and is from 1950s Hollywood style epics. We don't talk like this anymore so even young English speaking kids won't follow. And I do mean English from England, native English speakers from other countries will also find it a bit strange. Now the actual content of the script itself, it will not teach you anything that your guide didn't already. But what is explained is done simply and well. Then there are parts which are dramatizations and they are simply very poor and should be removed. Enough sound, what about the light? This starts very well but gradually gets lower in quality as the show goes on. The beginning is quite dramatic and I won't ruin it for you. However, if the above doesn't worry you then it's a nice throw back to English shaesperan actors of that epic movie era. In the end I would still recommend it. It's old but maybe that helps you remember those old movies and visualize what Egypt would have looked like in it's day. Sound 1 Light 2 Education 2 Drama 3 Total//average 2

We were so impressed by the grandeur of Karnak Temple during the day that we decided to return for the evening light show — unfortunately, that was a big mistake. The show felt dated and dull, narrated by what sounded like two voices from an old 1950s documentary. The storytelling lacked energy and depth, making it hard to stay engaged — even the children around us were bored and clearly didn’t understand what was happening. The projections were low quality and underwhelming, doing no justice to the magnificence of the temple. For something held in such a breathtaking historic site, the experience felt cheap and poorly executed. We paid around £50 for a family of four, and honestly, it just wasn’t worth it. Karnak deserves better — this show felt like a disservice to its majesty. Save your money and enjoy the temple in the daylight when its true magic shines. Most of the time I was gazing at the starts. It was that bad!!!

The Sound and Light Show at Luxor is a captivating experience that brings the ancient history of Egypt to life. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Karnak Temple, the show combines dramatic lighting, narrated storytelling, and enchanting music to recount the tales of pharaohs and the glory of ancient Egyptian civilization. The narration is compelling, providing rich historical context, while the visuals create a magical atmosphere that enchants visitors. It’s a unique way to experience Luxor’s history after dark and is highly recommended for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of this incredible destination. Don't miss this mesmerizing blend of culture and entertainment!

It felt more like "Luxor Casino Las Vegas", than the real Karnak Temple at Luxor. The ancient Egyptians must be very angry to see how these people put on such a grotesque and shoddy show on one of their most beautiful temples. Truly shameful!
Julian P — Google review
Absolutely loved it you do need the tour guide who knows the history it is amazing. But lots of walking so comfortable clothes and shoes carry bottle of water as well. We visited banana plantation mirena cruise as well.

I attended the show in English. Overall a magical experience to be hearing about the history of the Karnak temple, and walk through this unique place at night. The ticket cost 900LE. The show seemed to be created a few decades ago and the language sounded like classical English, which may not be easy to fully understand by young people. Of course, history did not change much in those decades, but people's language did. The acoustics were not so clear in the portion near the middle of the show.
Travel G — Google review
The show is absolutely grotesque! So grotesque I had to laugh every five minutes. It's like a really bad american Hollywoodish show. The lighting is very poor, you barely see anything of the temple, the ridiculous text is read on a fake shakespearian tone, the soundtrack is appalling. At some point you have to sit for 20 minutes in front of the lake, watching this stupidity (by the way, bring repellent if you don't want to get eaten by mosquitoes). And then you have the rude guards chasing you around and pushing you to follow the group ("this way! This way!"). I'm sure the show in Las Vegas Luxor is much better. Total crap for ignorant tourists. Make yourself a favor and visit Karnak during the day.

We stayed for four nights, and it was a delight. From the moment we checked in to the last when whe checked out, we felt like we were at a true five-star hotel. Absolutely stunning hotel in a perfect position. Couldn’t ask for more from a luxury resort hotel in Luxor The only advice I’d give is to avoid the Oasis restaurant - bad food and service. Otherwise the staff were really fantastic! Make sure to have at least one meal in the Fateer house right on the edge of the Nile - it was perfect service and amazing food!

Room in general is all right. Anyway, Nile View is not 100% nile view cause the window facing sideway not directly toward the Nile. Our room booking include dinner. Outer space around pool and building is great. But their policy on dinner buffet is horrible.

They helped us resolve any issues and provided us with a very high customer service experience. I really enjoyed the hotel itself, the atmosphere, the location on the Nile River and the room cleaniness. I also really liked the convenience of the taxi service so you don't have to worry about finding transportation and I liked the convenience of the gift shops which are actually very much more affordable than outside of the hotel. We bought some gifts from the gift shop and Peter, shop owner, made us basically feel like friends. Only thing I wish they had was trips that's guests can book through the hotel but that wasn't an issue at all as the taxi driver helped us make an itinerary. Great experience and if I return to Luxor, I will be staying at Mercure.

This hotel is excellent! Especially the staff is really friendly and helpful! They made our stay amazing! Also, the beds were super comfortable and the rooms were always clean and neat. The yard and the pool area were perfect to relax and the view you get is wonderful! Thanks to the great location at the nile, the sun rises and sun sets are beautiful to watch! Furthermore, the food at the hotel was delicious, the drinks as well! I would totally recommend a stay in this hotel!

We spend one week in this hotel. Our expectations were totally satisfied. The room was big enough, the bed was comfy. The garden of the hotel was huge and beautiful. The food was delicious. There were different bars and restaurants. We tried some cocktails, they were all very good. The staff was helpful and very nice to us. I would totally recommend a stay at this hotel.

This is a beautiful hotel spread out over a large area. We stayed here for two days, while visiting Karnak. I loved the spacious rooms, the helpful and friendly staff and the efficient service provided. The view of the Nile, the swimming pool and landscaped gardens are fantastic as well! I also appreciated how they marked the different wings with the names of famous Egyptian Queens. Since we left the hotel early in the mornings to visit the sites, they packed us wonderful and pretty generous breakfast boxes. Both days we had dinner at the Opet restaurant and am happy to say that food was excellent with a wide variety of choices. The view of the landscaped lawns were gorgeous at night. The rooms are excellent, with the usual TV, a tea corner and comfortable beds, and armchairs. I'd have really loved to spend some more time enjoying the amenities. Will definitely do that next time I'm in Luxor.

Had a good welcome after a long journey Breakfast was superb and relaxed. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and delightful view over the gardens and the Nile. Enjoyed choice of food I found the ' man in the shop' really helpful and a delight to talk too. No pressure ! I would highly recommend a stay Helen & David

The hotel itself is great. There's so much inside that you would never have to leave. The location is excellent and it's kept sparkling clean. The buffet meals are very expensive, more so than the Hilton in Cairo and to be honest, they're not that great. They'll definitely make you feel safe as the while hotel is gated and heavily patrolled, they will check ID for anyone that comes to pick you up.

I have an excellent experience here. I stayed for 3 days. I really feel at home because of: hospitable staff, esp. friendly receptionists, extra clean rooms, esp. Bed sheets, delicious cuisines, wonderful Nile view, and spectacular landscape. I greatly recommend this hotel to those who search for relaxation and luxurious accommodation.

Oasis Palace is a charming restaurant located in a 19th-century mansion near Luxor's corniche. The vintage photos adorning the walls add to its unique ambiance, making it a hidden gem worth discovering. The menu features delectable options such as Sheesh Tawouk, Chicken Shawarma, and Grilled Fish served with irresistible Arabic bread.
The Chicken Supreme was really supreme! And the Chicken Shish was juicy and grilled perfectly! Staffs were nice and friendly. Definitely recommend!

Amazing place with great food, top service and beautiful, vintage decorations. We felt really welcome and tries different foods. All stuff members where really kind, helps us our with directions to ferry and many jokes. Maybe not the cheapest place if you compare to other restaurants or steet food, but was definitely worth it and we still paid relatively low for the amount of food we got. Highly suggest!

To ne honest I was so dissappointed with the food they serve. I got kofta but there was some bone parts of meat inside and it was not delicious at all. Also, we got chicken supreme, and some egytian dinner. There were also like 5 out of 10. However, atmoshpere is good. Still, they Dont deserve these prices at all.

Great restaurant, just as the name suggest, a real oasis in central Luxor. We chosed a simple dish for lunch, fried fish with chips, carefully cooked to perfection.

This is a hidden gem. Very close to Luxor corniche, situated in front of Bankque Misr, this place is highly recommended. We ordered Sheesh tawouk, Chicken Shawarma and grilled fish. Everything was delicious and fresh.. Including the arabic bread !!

Visited several places around Egypt, but unfortunately, this restaurant was the worst by far. A friend and I arrived around 9 pm, and the initial encounter with the worker left a lot to be desired. The service was quite unpleasant. As for the food, we were truly disappointed; it was flavorless, cold, and unappetizing. This was surprising, considering Egyptian cuisine has become one of my favorites, but this place didn't do it justice. I'd recommend exploring family-owned restaurants on the opposite side of the river, such as Nubian House, which offers a much better dining experience.

We are here twice in a 3 day stay in Luxor. Our hotel was right around the corner so it was super convenient for us. Cute place with AC, pretty extensive menu and beer and wine. The tagine was excellent. Mark got the half grilled chicken twice (it was oddly different each time but both delicious) I also had the meatballs in tomato sauce. Price was really reasonable and the people who work there are delightful. We came during off hours so service was a bit slow,, but this also means that everything is freshly made to order.

Food was decent. I ordered beef shish kebab. The meat was, like the rice it was served with, very dry. However, the vegetables which were also included were actually very tasty. Now the staff was nice to us, but they let one of the horse carriage drivers into the restaurant to hassle us, which just made the entire experience a lot less peaceful and nice.

The El Hussein restaurant is a popular place for grilled Egyptian, European and Oriental foods. They have a buffet and a la carte menu. The food is great with excellent service.
The food here is delicious, especially the soup! The owner is very nice and friendly and he gives us salad and dessert for hospitality. Also, I really like the atmosphere here. However, there is no price listed on the menu, I need to ask servers for the price, which I think can be improved. But the price is reasonable, for about 500 pounds per person. Generally speaking, highly recommended!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10 – Absolutely Exceptional! We visited El Hussein Restaurant as part of a day trip to Luxor, and it truly exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and hospitality that made us feel right at home. The atmosphere was cosy and inviting — the perfect place to relax and enjoy a delicious meal after a day of exploring. The food was simply spectacular. Every dish was full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly prepared with care and fresh ingredients. Whether you’re familiar with the local cuisine or trying it for the first time, you’re in for a real treat. The service was outstanding. The staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to ensure we had the best possible experience. Their recommendations were spot on, and nothing was too much trouble. El Hussein Restaurant is a true gem — warm, welcoming, and packed with flavour. If you’re visiting Luxor, this is a spot you absolutely must try. 10 out of 10 – would highly recommend 😊.

Visited as a tourist from Japan. This is a wonderful restaurant! The food was delicious and plentiful. I had the molokhia soup, grilled chicken, and basbousa. When I said that my favorite food in Egypt is basbousa and said that it was ممتاز (“amazing” - one of two words I learned for this trip), the waiter brought me extras! Such great service. 5/5 experience and I would recommend to my friends.

If you're tired of the mediocre food on your Nile cruise and want to try something truly delicious, Oum Hashem Restaurant is the place to be. Located away from the main tourist areas, this gem offers a delightful plate with four types of meat, lentil soup, and a recommended onion dish. The portions are generous and the staff is incredibly friendly. Despite being taken there by a street vendor, visitors highly recommend this spot for its tasty food at reasonable prices.
Fantastic food. If you want to taste some good authentic Egyptian food, this is your place. I cannot wait to go back to Luxor to have the Hamam Mahshi, Mumbar and Molukheya. Great staff and service.

Service was really friendly. We particularly like the Egyptian bread, the eggplant dip, onion soup, lentil soup and the kofta. Actually we came to have shawarma and they said they had everything at the door but it turned out they did not have shawarma on the English menu.
Winnie H — Google review
After walking out of the other Oum Hashem restaurant (I believe there are three nearby) due to their deceptive practices, we decided to give this one a try. We made it clear upfront that we didn’t want an English menu to avoid being overcharged. Thankfully, this restaurant treated us fairly, and the food was genuinely great. However, the hygiene standards were disappointing—the carpet on the stairs felt filthy, which detracted from the overall experience. While the service and food were good, they really need to improve their cleanliness.

Good food but I think their scam method is stupid they give you different menu. I went there twice within 3 days. I ordered the same thing but the bill was completely different. The last time he brought me the bill but the price was terrible. When I complained about it he said I am a regular employee and I can't help you with anything. It was the worst experience ever. I do not recommend trying it. 👎👎

Warning: Avoid Oum Hashem Restaurant in Luxor! We were three people (my girlfriend, our Egyptian tour guide, and myself) and had one of the worst dining experiences ever. The meat was dry, tough, and absolutely not worth the money. Worse, they deliberately brought out a bunch of extra dishes we never ordered — and then tried to charge us a small fortune for them. We assumed the sides were complimentary (because they just dumped them on the table without saying a word), but no — everything was charged separately and heavily overpriced. Even our Egyptian guide was shocked by the outrageous bill. When I challenged the charges, I found out they had the nerve to add 300 EGP for a salad we never even asked for. More “extras” we didn’t order were sneakily added to inflate the total. Only after a lot of arguing did they grudgingly lower the price a bit. But the damage was done — I will never set foot in this place again, and I strongly advise everyone else to stay far, far away. For the same money, I can eat in Germany (!) at excellent Syrian or Turkish restaurants with much better food, bigger portions, and actual honesty. Pro tip: Only order exactly from the menu with clearly listed prices, and if they try to scam you, don’t hesitate to threaten to call the police. It’s the only thing that makes them back down.

The Valley of the Kings, also known as the 'Valley of the Gates of the Kings,' is an ancient archaeological site located in Egypt. It features 63 tombs and burial chambers that were used for 500 years between the 16th and 11th centuries BC to bury pharaohs and nobles. The site was chosen for its significance in Egyptian mythology, as it aligns with the sun god's cycle of death and rebirth.
This place is incredible; it was honestly the highlight of my trip to Luxor. The drive from the ticket office to the valley is a very memorable experience!! The Valley isn’t far from Luxor city but it feels like you’re in the middle of the desert. This place was the last stop of our tour, and with it also being 40C, it was absolutely exhausting. However so worth it! Beware of workers trying to take your phone from your hands to take pictures and then ask for a tip. I’ve seen it happen to others and they also tried to do that with me, thankfully I turned away before they managed to grab my phone. There’s also a bazaar with souvenirs and clothing - the workers aren’t too pushy which is good. The landscape of the mountains is gorgeous, and the walls are beautifully decorated. The actually tombs itself are covered. Take lots of water with you. I highly recommend coming here.

Absolutely stunning!! This place is second best place to visit in Egypt after pyramids. Amazing sights and if you get a guide it is so much history in one place it is unbelievable. Tutankamon tomb has his mummy inside!!!

Absolutely 10/10! The best site to visit in Egypt by far. Definitely would recommend purchasing the additional tickets for Tutankhamen and Seti I, these tombs were amazing in comparison to the ones included in the basic ticket.

Valley of the Kings is an absolute must for anyone visiting Egypt my suggestion is to be outside at 6:00 in the morning to be there at later time will mean you have to Battle the crowds as well as endure very high temperatures and Humidity inside the tombs your trip to Valley of the Kings should start at 6:00 a.m. and that will give you plenty of time to be out by 10:00 a.m. at the latest beating the Heat and the crowds make sure you take an experienced guide or you will be missing a lot of the history which is vital to appreciating the magnitude of this place
Lorena S — Google review
Well organised with electric vehicles to take you to the main area. Some tombs included in the ticket price but worth paying a little extra to see the more spectacular tombs. Crowded but so many tombs that waiting time is short. Can be very hot so take a hat and droning water.
Patrick W — Google review
Well now this place is really something. So many immense tombs built in a remote area in the desert. Presumably they figured out that advertising a tomb with a huge structure like a pyramid just invites theft, and so these were still vast but all underground. It can be so hot with the other tourists that coming back out into the desert feels cool! With your fee you get to see 3 temples, but I would recommend paying extra for at least one more because it will have far fewer tourists and allow you to really experience the tomb.
Marc B — Google review
Do try to visit early in the morning. It gets very humid inside where the tombs are. The 3-D representation of the valley will blow you away - just to imagine how they must’ve planned keeping their graves for eternity. This was almost a surreal experience. I couldn’t help but wonder what these people thought of afterlife - an ongoing journey, or a destination.
Samar S — Google review
Absolutely awe-inspiring! The Valley of the Kings is one of the most impressive and historically rich places in the world. The tombs are stunning, with incredible colors and carvings still perfectly preserved. Walking through this ancient site feels like stepping back in time. A must-see for anyone visiting Egypt — history at its absolute finest!

Ramesseum is a magnificent and underrated ancient complex that showcases the power and grandeur of Ramses II. It features scenes from his great Battle of Qadesh and campaign against Dapur, offering visitors a glimpse into ancient Egypt's history. Despite being overshadowed by other nearby attractions, such as Medinet Habu and Karnak, Ramesseum exudes a peaceful and magical atmosphere once you arrive.
The most underrated attraction in Luxor. Very few tourists come here but it is spectacular. The site features the fallen statue of Ramessus and another impressive stone head statute, along with Egyptian columns. If you want to visit a site with fewer tourists and great photo ops, definitely visit this site
Nicola P — Google review
Beautiful site with colonnades. Don't compare it with Karnak. Each site is unique. You will feel 'alone' at certain hours of the day there. Good for taking wonderful pics and having nice feelings associated with Egyptian temples. This place is little far out of mass tourism...
Oliver K — Google review
You have to visit this site. The fallen statue is mind blowing and guaranteed to leave you scratching your head. Estimated around 1000 tons and its as smooth to the touch which makes no sense. The hieroglyphics are incredible and you can still see lots of colour on the ceiling and tops of the pillars. The ticket office is not at the site though, its next to the roundabout down the road from the site- go there first otherwise they sent you back. Online tickets don't work half the time.
Miles B — Google review
Visiting the Ramesseum in Luxor was a highlight of our trip, and it exceeded all expectations. This ancient temple complex, dedicated to Pharaoh Ramesses II, is a fascinating and awe-inspiring site, offering a quieter, less crowded experience compared to some of the more well-known sites in the area. The temple’s ruins, with their impressive majestic carvings and monumental statues, really give you a sense of the power and grandeur of this great pharaoh. One of the most striking features of the Ramesseum is the massive statue of Ramesses II, once standing at over 60 feet tall. Although only the torso and parts of the legs remain, it’s still an imposing sight. The sheer scale of the statue is hard to grasp until you stand beside it, offering a glimpse into the sheer ambition of ancient Egyptian rulers. This “Colossus of Ramesses II” is an iconic symbol of the pharaoh’s legacy. Inside the temple, the walls are adorned with beautifully preserved hieroglyphics and reliefs, depicting scenes of the king’s military victories and religious rituals. The majestic carvings detailing the battle of Kadesh, where Ramesses II famously fought the Hittites, are particularly impressive, showcasing the incredible artistry of ancient Egyptian craftsmen. The temple also includes a hypostyle hall, full of towering columns, and a sanctuary dedicated to the god Amun. The Ramesseum is not as crowded as some of the other temples in Luxor, allowing you to explore at a leisurely pace. It’s a peaceful place to wander and reflect on Egypt’s rich history. Opening times: The Ramesseum is open daily from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and the ticket price is very reasonable for such a significant site. If you’re in Luxor and interested in exploring a lesser-known but incredibly powerful temple, the Ramesseum is a must-see. The combination of the colossal statues, detailed carvings, and serene atmosphere makes it one of the most memorable stops in the area.

Ramesseum – The Forgotten Giant of Thebes The Ramesseum, the mortuary temple of Ramses II, is an incredible place to explore. One of the highlights is the massive fallen granite statue of Ramses himself — it's absolutely huge and gives you a sense of how grand this temple must’ve been in its prime. The site is quieter than many others in Luxor, which makes it perfect for wandering around at your own pace. There are beautiful hieroglyphs, towering columns, and lots of little corners to discover. It really felt like an adventure walking through the ruins. Not as famous as Karnak or Medinet Habu, but definitely worth the visit — especially if you like history without the crowds. Restaurant next to the site serves cold beer😅

Deir el-Medina is an ancient village established around 1492 BCE, where workers who built royal tombs and a Ptolemaic temple resided. It's a well-preserved gem that offers insight into the daily lives of ordinary Egyptians. The narrow streets and simple dwellings stand in contrast to the lavish tombs they helped create in the nearby Valley of the Kings.
This place is a gem; my favourite attraction in Luxor. Reason being, tombs are colourful and every artwork tells a story. The colours are so vivid and is so different from the other tombs in Luxor. There are two tombs there (at least open to the public). Access is tricky and requires you to stoop low so if you have mobility issues, you may struggle to get into the lower parts of the tombs. Approaching the entrance, you will first come across the tombs, then from here you walk past the old settlements to get to the temple. The temple is amazing. There are three chambers. The artwork in the 3rd chamber to the right of the middle chamber is jaw dropping; super amazing. The colours are beautiful and I don’t think there’s anything like it in Luxor’s other attractions. If you can’t get to Dendera (Hathor Temple) then visit this temple in Luxor. I didn’t want leave here! It is true that you will be hassled by these guys who sometimes even stand in front of you. Yes, some may follow you and even harass you but be firm. Don’t fall for any approaches to see unofficial tombs….. You can take photos and record if you want to. Tickets can be purchased at the bottom of the road leading to here. This place is special in my view. Go if you can. It tends to be fairly quiet too! Ticket is one of the most affordable, definitely value for money.

It was alright. The painting in the 3 opening tombs are good and well preserved. These aren't as fancy as the ones in the valley of the kings (of course) but still interesting to see. The tombs are quite small and narrow, if you are claustrophobic, you should probably pass this site.
Mochen L — Google review
Beautifully preserved tombs and possibly better than the Valley of the Kings. The black and gold tomb is particularly stunning. Also not that busy here so you sometimes have the tombs to yourself. The tomb attendees here are also quite helpful and show you interesting features in the tombs, unlike attendents at other sites that just try get money from you.
Nicola P — Google review
Great place to take in the remains of the valley's craftsmen's homes. Three master artisans tombs are there to enter. The highest set tomb is unlocked for visitors so make sure you go back to foyer meeting point where guards stand, to be shown there. There are info boards to read and a model village at the foyer. Visited a small coptic temple at the end. A well organised site with very helpful entrance staff.

Long story short: Worst visiting experience I’ve ever had in Egypt. I don’t think it will improve anytime soon, since I found old reviews from six years ago describing same issue. If these kind of incidents happened to you, go outside and report the rude staff to his supervisor (normally at the entrance of tomb). - I was visiting alone inside, but happened to enter with a small group of five people. All of us politely refused his “offer” to take photos or explain the paintings. Shortly after, he started shouting at me to leave. I replied, “No, I’ve only been here for three minutes.” Then he raised his voice even more, clapping his hands and calling out: “Yo China girl! Madame! China come out!” I am Asian, yes, but that kind of comment is extremely inappropriate and disrespectful. I tried to ignore him and continue admiring the beautiful paintings, but he kept yelling nonstop. It became so disturbing that it affected everyone in the room, so I eventually gave in and left. When I stepped outside, there were only two people waiting to enter — there wasn’t even a line. After I left, he told the group to get out too. They didn’t argue and also left. Then he immediately welcomed two new tourists inside and followed them in, clearly trying to sell his “guide service” for tips again. It was obvious that he was pushing us out quickly so he could earn more money from others. Such disgusting behavior completely ruined the experience. We only stayed for about 3–5minutes, and there was no reason to rush us at all. When I got out of the tomb, my tour guide was surprised that I came out so quickly. I was so upset and told him everything. My guide, who is a local, fully supported me and reported the incident to the supervisor and the guard. Thanks to him, I was able to re-enter the tomb for a second visit. I can’t imagine how it would’ve gone if I didn’t have a local guide with me. The supervisor told us that they would fire that staff member — though I honestly doubt it. Anyway, if the same thing happens to you, don’t stay silent. You can report the staff to the supervisor outside the tomb. The paintings are absolutely stunning, but the management and staff behavior desperately need improvement.

It's really worth visiting after you see valley of the kings. Decorations of tombs here have a different style than in kings tombs. They are well preserved, mostly flat, colorful paintings. Way more modest than valley of the kings, but that's what makes them worth seeing. You cannot buy tickets on the site, I did it online, but I don't recommend it as once (for a different attraction) I paid and never got email with the ticket. Fortunately got more "lucky" for Medina ticket. Unfortunately, you may get a "guide" without being asked if you want - he showed me 1 tomb, about 5-10 minutes, and as you may guess, it isn't free. He just suggested he wants something, didn't say how much. But besides that, he was ok.
Dawid M — Google review
Visited 31 October 2022. Included with the Luxor Pass. Deir el-Medina translates to Monastery of the town, is the remains of the planned community of artisans that dwelt in and around the necropoleis of ancient Thebes. In antiquity this place was called Set-Ma'at or the Place of Truth because the workers there were thought to be inspired by the gods in creating the eternal homes of the deceased kings and their families. The earliest ruins at the site date from the reign of Thutmose I (1520-1492 BCE), son and successor of Amenhotep I, but there is no doubt that it was Amenhotep I who first planned the site. He and his mother, Ahmose-Nefertari, were worshipped as protective gods at the site throughout its history. By the time of the New Kingdom tomb robbing had become rife. The Valley of the Kings was selected as the new necropolis for royalty and the village was planned for easy access (a half hour's walk) from a worker's home to the tombs. The village was in continuous use from the time of Thutmose I until the collapse of the New Kingdom around 1069 BC. Although the community and nearby necropolises were planned to safeguard the tombs of the kings, human greed and opportunity would eventually work to undermine the plan and some of the workers themselves would turn to robbing the tombs they had helped build and protect for an easy and quite substantial payoff. For most of its history, however, the village seems to have functioned as it was intended. There are a number of tombs open which display the vibrant colours used. While these tombs are smaller (note you might have to crawl into one or two if you're tall but they are definitely not claustrophobic) they are just as important as the tombs of royalty and high officials. Sadly though we know that it was these villagers who helped desecrate and rob the tombs. Away from the main throngs of tourists, you can walk around and see the village, temple and tombs in relative peace and ease.

Learn about the lives and homes of the workers whom constantly help build the tombs in the Valley of the kings. Easily missed of your list but if time allows please add it. It is definitely worth the short trip and amazing insights into their lives.

Medinet Habu is an ancient Egyptian temple dedicated to Amun, featuring intricate bas relief sculpting and the tomb of Ramesses III. Situated in the sleepy Kom Lolah village with the Theban mountains as its backdrop, this site was a significant center of economic life in Thebes for centuries. It once housed temples, storage rooms, workshops, administrative buildings, a royal palace, and accommodations for priests and officials.
Stunning colour preservation on the underside of the gateways and some pillars. Location is close to the valley of the king's and it's the only temple with the kings palace remains next to it. Also great because it's not as busy as the other temples and just as stunning. Great for picture taking and a chill out
Kathie K — Google review
The temple has a great atmosphere and many drawings are very well preserved. There are still small temples on the site that are from an older time. So far the largest paintings I have seen in Egypt. The site has a toilet with cafe and is also suitable for wheelchairs. What is unpleasant are the sellers who try to sell something here particularly aggressively.

Best preserve temple by Egypt. Spent about 30 minutes. A good tour guide will make the visit very interesting.

Huge temple complex. Wheel chair access to most important places. Be aware that local men will offer to take a picture of you next to a statue.. etc, but afterwards wants a tip. This was an experience all over and at every historic site. Best to smile and say no thanks.
Felix B — Google review
One of the most interesting treasures of Egypt and one of the most pleasant to visit. Here too the pigeons begin their destruction and the police ask for tips. There are rooms closed to tourists to certainly protect the paintings but open to pigeons?

No words can describe that place. The best of the best. The temple contains alot of ancient monuments and great recording of ancient civilization. There are alot of scenes to take pictures there and every time you visit you will feel that you see it for the first time.

A wonderful ancient Egyptian temple with many hieroglyphics and the story of the battle with the sea peoples. It's well preserved and even has some original colors on the walls.

This was by far the best we visited in Egypt! Not very many people and it is just as grand and historic as the other sites. Bathrooms and places to eat across the street. Plenty of street vendors selling souvenirs. A lot more relaxed visit. Enjoyed it!

Monuments & Statues
The Colossi of Memnon, a pair of massive Egyptian statues, are the only remnants of the ancient temple dedicated to King Amenhotep III. These colossal figures were built around 1350 BC and stand as a testament to the power and grandeur of the 18th dynasty in ancient Egypt.
The Colossi of Memnon are two gigantic seated statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, dating back to the 14th century BCE, that stand on the west bank of the Nile opposite Luxor. Each statue is about 18 meters high and carved from blocks of quartzite sandstone that were transported from quarries near Cairo, more than 600 kilometers away. They originally stood at the entrance of Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple, one of the largest ever built in Egypt, but the temple itself was largely destroyed by floods and later reused as building material. The two statues are all that remain standing on the site, serving as silent guardians of the ruined complex. Both statues depict the king seated on a throne, hands resting on his knees, looking east toward the rising sun. The sides of the thrones are decorated with reliefs showing the Nile god Hapi and symbolic representations of conquered peoples. Although badly damaged over time—particularly the upper portions of the figures—they still impress visitors with their sheer scale and presence. In antiquity, the northern statue became famous for producing a mysterious sound at dawn, a phenomenon caused by the heating and cooling of the stone after it cracked in an earthquake. Greek and Roman travelers associated this “singing” with Memnon, a mythical hero of the Trojan War, and the statues became a major attraction in the classical world. Today, the Colossi of Memnon remain one of the most iconic sights on the west bank of Luxor. They stand as monuments not only to the power and ambition of Amenhotep III but also to the fascination they inspired in visitors for thousands of years. Even though they are the ruined remnants of a once-magnificent temple, their enduring presence continues to embody the grandeur and mystery of ancient Egypt.

Huge statues close to main road leading to the Valley of the workers, Habu Temple, and the various other attractions on the West Bank of the Nile in Luxor. Nice to stop by to see these. There’s some excavations taking place in the immediate area which looks as if will be a new attraction. Free attraction.
Legends L — Google review
The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues standing proudly on the west bank of the Nile near Luxor. These imposing figures, each about 18 meters tall, once guarded the entrance to the mortuary temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, built in the 14th century BCE during the height of the New Kingdom. Today, the temple is largely gone, but these monumental statues remain as silent witnesses to its former grandeur. Carved from single blocks of quartzite sandstone, the statues depict Amenhotep III seated on his throne, hands resting on his knees, gazing toward the rising sun. Their sheer size and craftsmanship reflect the power and authority of the pharaoh, as well as the skill of ancient Egyptian sculptors. The term “Memnon” comes from Greek mythology. Memnon was a legendary Ethiopian king and a hero of the Trojan War. According to myth, Memnon was associated with the rising sun and was believed to greet the dawn. When one of the statues began to emit a mysterious, melodious sound at sunrise —likely caused by heat expanding the cracked stone after the 27 BCE earthquake— Greeks and Romans connected this phenomenon to Memnon’s myth, interpreting it as the hero greeting his mother, the dawn.
Lefteris S — Google review
You have to see these in person. They are just at the side of the road so no ticket needed, can rent a bicycle and ride to them which is fun. Incredible size and only adds to the achievements of the past.

Visited 28 October 2022. The only free archaeological site in Luxor can be found en route to the necropolis' on the West Bank. The Colossi of Memnon are in fact the damaged statues of King Amenhotep III. They stand at the the entrance to what was the largest temple in Egypt when it was built : the Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III. The northern entrance to this temple is where you will find the Colossi of Amenhotep III figures today. Built around 1350 BC these are all that remain of the temple after it was severely damaged by an earthquake and subsequently looted of materials for other temples. Standing at 18 metres high the figures are made of Quartzite sandstone and the stones were likely quarried from el-Gabal el-Ahmar ( which is near modern day Cairo ) In popular culture these figures are mentioned in the Wilbur Smith novel River God. The site gets crowded in the mornings due to many tourist coaches passing by on the way to the Valley of the Kings and the Hatshepsut Temples. There is also continuing archaeological work going on behind the statues for the conservation of the Mortuary Temple. Two smaller colossi can be seen behind the Colossi of Memnon which would have marked the First Pylon of the Temple.

MJ T — Google review
One of the biggest tourist attractions in Luxor, the Colossi of Memnon gained its popularity due to its majestic appearance and for the mysterious sounds emitted by the northern colossus statue at every sunrise. Two magnificent twin statues image of pharaoh Amenhotep III and two smaller statues carved by his feet (one being his wife and the other his mother), stands graciously in the horizon of the magnificent Luxor horizons. The two statues, each measuring 60 feet tall, stands in the entrance of Amenhotep III’s mortuary temple. They are famously named by the name of Colossi of Memnon due to a phenomenon produced by one of the statues after an earthquake. Originally built in the Theban Necropolis in the west of the Nile River in the modern city of Luxor, the Colossi of Memnon, two colossal statues made of quartzite sandstone, which archaeologists believe was quarried at El-Gabal el-Ahmar, located near modern Cairo and then transported 420 miles overland to the ancient city of Thebes, remain after thousands of years. Its modern Arabic name is Kom el-Hatan but the Colossi of Memnon is better known for its Roman name, the Temple of Memnon. A hero of the Trojan War, Memnon was a king of Ethiopia who traveled with his army from Africa to Asia Minor to help defend the beleaguered city under attack but it was slain by Achilles. Memnon’s name whose means the steadfast or resolute, was the son of Eos, known for being the goddess of dawn. Memnon was associated with the Colossi many years after its construction due to the cry at dawn of the northern statue also known as the “Vocal Memnon.” Memnon’s eventually became known as the “Ruler of the West.”

Family run restaurant right in front of the Hebu temple with delicious food and the best prices. They are all very welcoming and attentive to their customers and can speak very good English (some better than others but they help each other out too). We went here twice in our 3 day stay on the west bank. Our favorite meals were the omelette and the falafels (ordered off the menu). The bread and salad they provide are excellent as well. They also had some other good vegetarian friendly options. Best of all they do not try to hustle you and it's a very relaxed environment. We really needed this genuine attention after a few days in Luxor where you just want to be left alone. They didn't ask me to leave a review, and I usually don't do reviews, but this place deserves 5 stars and I wish them all the success in the world.

We visited here in February and it was lovely! The café is located just outside Medinet Habu and features a beautiful outdoor (shaded!) sitting area. The food was excellent - we had vegetable tajine, cous cous, the mezze platter, lentil soup, and the best bread I had while in Egypt. Every dish was spectacular and we went back three times while in Luxor! We also took a cooking with Masrya, one of the owners, and had an amazing time going to her garden, picking vegetables and herbs, and cooking an Egyptian meal. Highly recommend!!

A wonderful women-owned/managed café! We had delightful and refreshing drinks here after our visit to the temple across the street. Super clean bathrooms and a beautiful atmosphere with lots of greenery. Prices were clearly listed and very good. The owner is very kind and also cares a lot about animals and she takes care and helps local dogs. Highly recommend this spot.

The prices are listed on a menu on English. The toilets are clean with toilet paper and soap. We also had a look at the cute kitchen where the family prepare the tasty food also very clean and good staffed. Thank you for the family and the staff to welcome us so much and so friendly. Ps. They take care of the street dogs! 05.05.2025 We came back! As usual very warm welcoming from the family clean atmosphere and energy. Good food and the same prices as last year. Thank you family!

The hotel offers clean and comfortable rooms with nice views. Guests can enjoy delicious meals at the various restaurants on-site, including an Italian restaurant with a wide selection of tasty dishes.
My family (with a 4 year old) stayed here as part of our 9 day Egypt tour. It was one of 4 different accommodations we had while on the trip and it was our absolute FAVORITE. Our room automatically had a second room and bathroom that was such a nice change from squeezing our kid into one of our beds. The pools were all beautiful, especially the infinity pool and it was the best buffet we had on the trip. Our travel company chose and booked this place, if I would be coming back to Egypt I would make booking this place a special request. The location is also perfect- tucked away from everything on a quiet little island on the nile. We were sad to leave, definitely book here if you’re in Luxor!

Beautiful location on an actual island in the middle of the Nile! Gorgeous well kept grounds, very friendly and helpful staff. Good food on site. Lovely well appointed rooms. Quiet and just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Luxor City. Really enjoyed our time at this establishment. It's a magical spot.

A great place to just get away and relax. The hotel offers many activities, including water aerobics and fishing! We went fishing in the Nile for 250EGP per person for an hour and had a good time; keep in mind you're just catching small fishies for fun, not big ones to be cooked. I think this might be catered towards children but we had fun anyways. The infinity pool is great as you could watch the sun set over the Nile. I don't think it's super clean though so make sure to wash up thoroughly after swimming there. I got a bit of a rash after that. Transport isn't really an issue. We were able to call a ride to and from the city fairly easily using InDrive. The only downside is we couldn't bring outside food into the hotel and our toilet was leaking.

We’ve had such a lovely experience at our hotel here in Egypt, and a big part of that has been thanks to Abdullah, the barman. He’s been so friendly, warm, and attentive throughout our stay — always greeting us with a big smile and making us feel so welcome. Abdullah remembered our favourite drinks, always made sure we were happy, and even brought us tasty snacks to enjoy with our cocktails. His thoughtful touches and genuine care really made a difference, and he created such a relaxed, friendly atmosphere every evening. Thank you, Abdullah, for making our holiday even more special — you’re a real credit to the hotel!

On the overall the hotel is beautiful and you can find there many activities. Different swimming pool, some for children, massage space, gym center... Location is amazing as you are on the small island, but that implies that if you want to go elsewhere, you need a taxi. Food is okay-tier, we did not have issue with stomach, there are many restaurant (Italian, Egyptian, Asian and continental buffet). We face a big issue with our room, as we asked many months ago two room connected to have the children with us. This was not fulfilled... we strive with reception for more than 30 min, they said it was not possible to change. We contacted agency, and our correspondent came and after a while, the same guy that clearly stated before that there was no connected chambers available finally found one... However, they did not relocate the person that was supposed to come in this room the next day. This poor lady got the key and tried to come in around 10 pm... Really bad organisation at the reception. No initiative from the guy there.

This is a large hotel spread out across the island site. The rooms are very spacious albeit dated. It is located along the Nile river. The 3 swimming pools face the Nile and face west hence have great sunsets, especially at the infinity pool. The breakfast buffet is good when compared to other hotels in Egypt. The staff service is very good, very friendly. This is a relaxing place to stay.

My review of Jolie Ville Hotel: I stayed from October 16 to 18 (Room 3406), and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. There was a mouse inside the room, and the reception took a long time to respond after reporting it. In the restaurant, cats were freely moving and climbing on the tables, and I even noticed a fox around the hotel premises. I sincerely hope the management will improve hygiene standards and ensure better safety measures for guests.

Rooms are nice, breakfast was too good. But room service extremely bad. Asked for few things like bathroom slippers, tissue paper, phone not working but ignored didn't provided any. Tried Dinner at Resort restaurant El-Kababg and it turned out bad experience, do not try dinner there. For taking order called server many times but was ignored badly, we left restaurant than their owner came and requested insisted us at lot to come back, we came back only to find worst quality of food not worth of money.

We eat in their restaurant it was fantastic home cooked food, they own a farm and grow their own veg and raise their own cows and chickens.. so you are getting fresh from farm to plate. So tasty and the family are so kind and friendly.

After our trip on the sailing ship, we decided to have dinner on the West Bank. The Nubian House gave us a very friendly welcome and served us very tasty food. Many of the products (including the meat, hibiscus, mint, limes, etc.) come from their own family farm. One of the family members is also very happy to show you around. Locally owned and run this authentic and simple restaurant creates terrific food. The standard is extremely high. Only two (large) outside tables so definitely call first. We called and asked for Duck (2hrs notice required). Amazing. Fantastic home-made fresh juice, then baked Duck with multiple side-dishes, rice, bread etc. Tasted wonderful, clearly all freshly home-made. We could hardly finish. Faultless. Surroundings are authentic, not high-end, however very friendly. EGP 800 (US$17) for two great value for the superb quality.

My first time in Luxor was a beautiful experience thanks to the great hospitality by the family of Nubian House. I was very amazed that the owner of the restaurant is a farmer and his wife is a phenomenal cook that make fresh dishes of authentic cuisine straight from the backyard. Their team work and kindness towards me made me feel very welcomed and appreciated. I felt really taken care of and I had a special tour to see where all of the food is grown and cared for. It was definitely a 10/10 experience and I will come back to Luxor just to eat and have moments here again. It’s the best authentic place I’ve ever eaten at. Thank You

This restaurant and the owner are true definition of customer service at its finest and authentic Egyptian food at fraction of a price. Me and my wife went once for breakfast and were so amazed by the customer service and hospitality of Mr Hajaj and his wife that we came back everyday here to have breakfast, lunch and dinner. At Nubian house restaurant you’re treated like family not like a customer. The owner’s wife cooks delicious Egyptian food freshly made as they grow their own plants and vegetables for the food at the restaurant. We took a tour with the owner to his farmland also and it was truly an amazing experience. The owner showed us his farm animals and tour to the Nile on a boat was absolutely an amazing experience. Me and Mrs had the best time being in Luxor and Mr Hajaj made it possible through warm welcome and hospitality. We will always remember this trip and also Nubian house. We will definitely visit again.

The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The authentic Nubian food is prepared by his wife and family. He catches the fish himself and owns land where he grows the vegetables. We really wanted to try the duck, but we didn’t order it in advance. Fortunately, he had a spare portion available for us to try, and I highly recommend it. The fish was also delicious. I wholeheartedly recommend coming here. I wish him and his family all the success, and I hope to return someday.

Thebes (Tebaa) Restaurant is located in Luxor, also known as Thebes, an ancient capital of Egypt. Situated next to the Nile River, this restaurant offers great food and service with a stunning view. Visitors praise the friendly owner and the abundance of cats that are well taken care of on the premises. Guests also appreciate the use of incense to keep insects away and often receive a small bag as a gift.

This is my third time visiting this restaurant, and it never fails to impress. I first dined here in 2023 and have been thrilled to return. The food is consistently flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented, and the service has always been warm and attentive. Since we stay next door, we started ordering takeout as well. Just one incident occurred however the owner kindly apologized to my boyfriend and me, assured us it wouldn’t happen again, and offered a complimentary meal. We truly appreciate how it was handled and look forward to enjoying many more great meals here.

I completely recommend this shop. If you're a traveler who is tired of the hustle and bustle of Egypt, this shop is a great place to shop. No one tries to solicit you or your family, and no one haggles over the price. They only sell items at a set price. When you buy a keychain, the owner personally engraves your name in hieroglyphics. I paid only 45 Egyptian pounds for a very meaningful keychain and made a great memory. Thank you for your kindness.

I did not shop anywhere else in Egypt because I kept getting ripped off as a tourist, however this place has set marked prices and they are super affordable. Went in a bus with a group of 52 and wanted an alternative to McDonald's. The manager greeted us warmly and answered our questions. I picked the chicken shawarma wrap, and my wife chose the falafel wrap. Both came with fries that were excellent. On the side, I also tried the sausage stuffed with rice, interesting. Bottled water. For desert, we got the kunafa, topped with Nutella to go, yummy. All for 500 pounds. Everything was low salt the way I prefer, and my wife added salt to everything. We liked it all ok? Not great, but it was all good. The views of Luxor temple were amazing. Great location.

We had breakfast here and the food and drink are delicious. The price is affordable and the service is really good. You can have a nice view of Luxor Temple and Nile River. It will be nice to see sunset from this restaurant.

We went there two times and it was delicious, the portions are in the heat sometimes a bit big but manageable. Definitely try the Lemon and Mint! My favorite drink there. The orders take a bit longer and the staff has sometimes a hard time to understand but in the end we both are talking not in our main language so it's fine. All in all I enjoyed it there. The entrance is left of the bookshop and if you manage to sit on the 4th floor you can look and enjoy the view.

Pavillon Winter Luxor

4.5
(546)
Hotel
Nestled along the picturesque riverwalk, Pavillon Winter Luxor is a charming hotel that perfectly blends elegance with comfort. This delightful property boasts four exquisite dining options, including Ilpalmeto, where guests can savor delectable meals without leaving the premises. The lush gardens and serene outdoor pool—complete with a swim-up bar—offer an idyllic setting for relaxation after exploring nearby attractions like Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings.
I had a wonderful stay at the Pavillon Winter Luxor. The hotel is a quiet and beautifully maintained retreat, perfect for relaxing after a long day of sightseeing. The highlight for me was the stunning garden. It is incredibly well-kept, with peacocks, flamingos, and even a few adorable cats wandering around. My room had a great view of the greenery, and for the price, it was very comfortable. The bed was excellent, and I slept really well. One thing I highly recommend to any traveler: book the hotel’s transfer service in Luxor. I had a terrible experience at Cairo Airport, where I was constantly harassed and overcharged. In contrast, my transfer in Luxor was completely smooth. The guide was already waiting for me at baggage claim and, on my departure, even escorted me all the way to passport control. This made a huge difference and really helped after my stressful arrival from Cairo.

I give this place 5 stars strictly because it was a safe zone for us there is security to enter the premises which is so nice with all the haggling there is so much in Egypt it was a safe zone. The staff was friendly and accommodating we actually got food poisoning outside of the premises but the staff helped us get medicine and bananas which was warming thank you Yes the rooms are outdated but again it was just safe and quite peaceful and that was the most important thing to us.

Very nice hotel adjacent to the Sofitel one, with a lovely garden that has flamingoes, hence peaceful and away from the noise of the main road. 2 min walking distance to the port of West bank, and other main attractions like Luxor temple. Staff is very welcoming, polite and great to be around. Breakfast contains a lot of options, for any taste and staff is also happy to help satisfy any need. The rooms are old style, but nevertheless clean and tidy. Towels and bee sheets are spotless clean too. Swimming pool is shared with the Sofitel hotel, with great amenities.

The Winter Pavilion in Luxor is the secondary hotel located on the grounds of the historic Winter Palace, and it’s a charming place overall. The property is beautiful, with lush gardens filled with different plants and flowers, and you can really feel the old-world atmosphere as you walk through. The location right by the Nile adds to the experience, and the pool area is lovely and relaxing. Those were definitely the highlights of our stay. Our room was simple and dated, but comfortable enough for a short stay. It had everything we needed, even though it’s clear that this section of the property is older and more modest compared to the main palace. The service was polite but not particularly attentive. At the pool, for example, we were only served once and never checked on again, which was a little disappointing for a hotel of this reputation. The food was average. It wasn’t bad, but for such a historic and well-known property, we expected it to be a little more impressive. The biggest issue we ran into was when trying to arrange transportation to the airport. The front desk and concierge weren’t very helpful, and the process became stressful. Our Uber rides kept getting canceled, and we ended up having to negotiate directly with a taxi driver who overcharged us and made the trip uncomfortable. It would have been much better if the hotel had helped organize this in advance or provided clearer advice. Despite that, the Winter Pavilion has its charm, especially with the gardens and the pool. If you’re looking for an affordable way to experience the Winter Palace grounds, it’s a fine option, but just go in with the understanding that it’s a bit dated and not up to the service level of a true five-star hotel.

To me, this was the perfect place to stay and explore beautiful Luxor and all it has to offer. The service and care from the people working here was excelent, whatever your needs could be, everyone is always happy to help with a big smile. The look and location of this place is beyond anything I had expected, the garden alone as you enter the grounds is an amazingly welcoming sight. and as it is a central location along the Nile banks it is one of the best places to plan your magical adventures in and around Luxor from. From here when waking up a bit early you can get to all the beautiful places like Karnak Temple, or The Valley of the Kings way before the big tour busses filled with people arrive giving you a nice peaceful time to explore these magical spots. The food options in the hotel are also everything you would expect and hope from it, you will be able to find something for anyone and any taste. for me personaly, as I regularly live with an unconventional eating scedule the 24h roomservice was a big positive aswell. And ofcource having a nice cold drink at the bar on the front side of the hotel with a mesmerizing sun setting over the Nile is a view you can't forget. Luxor has so much to offer and this hotel was the perfect home base for me to plan my exploration from, So I will certainly be returning here again! and can't recommend it enough!

I believe we have been robbed while staying in this hotel, and the hotel management is covering it up. After the checkout from the hotel I found that part of the money saved for the next leg of the trip was missing. I sent an email to the hotel asking to investigate. The hotel manager Ali Nabil responded with a screenshot from the access key system. One of the entries was made at 9:37 pm when we were in a completely different place, there was a missing entry around 11pm when we actually came back to the hotel. I have responded to Ali saying that we only came back to the hotel at around 11pm, to which he responded with screenshots from the CCTV system indicating arrival time of 9:42. The reason I believe that this has been tampered with is that all of our iPhone photos have timestamps showing that we have been in a different hotel at this time. Google maps timeline also clearly shows this. Absolutely shocking, disgusting behaviour on behalf of Sofitel staff. When I submitted a complaint to Accor via their website, the response was to forward it back to the hotel. Anyway, I would just like to let everyone know that this happened, which is completely unacceptable for an international chain. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. Additionally, the breakfast and food overall was subpar, and the only thing good about the hotel was the garden, which was very well maintained and nothing like we have seen in Egypt.
Ievgenii M — Google review
The hotel is very dated and desperately needs a complete renovation. Its facilities and housekeeping are poorly maintained. Breakfast is also very minimal. All beddings in our room were so old and I started getting rash on my face the next day. The only good things are the swimming pool and the garden shared with Sofitel.
Amelia L — Google review
For a 5 star hotel I would have expected much nicer rooms and overall service. The room/ furniture looked very old and shower was poorly designed - it did not have a cover to block water from spraying onto the floors. The garden area was nice to walk in and they had some nice plants / animals. While the pool was really nice to relax in, the waiters were very slow with their service, and their attitudes would change when the cheque came as they would try to get a tip. The breakfast was decent with a nice view and some of the staff were quite friendly.

Meat dish restaurant
Restaurant El-Kababgy Luxor is a charming spot that offers stunning views of the Nile and the west bank of Luxor. The menu features authentic Egyptian dishes such as hammam, fatta, and feteer. Chef Ibrahim Rashid's culinary skills shine through in dishes like crayfish and risotto. The elegant atmosphere with candlelight and live guitar music sets the stage for a memorable dining experience.
It’s nearby Sofitel Winter Palace Hotel (walkable distance). The staffs and especially Mohamed (in the photo) are all really nice and have quick service! The food is nice, meats are delicious! Would totally come visit whenever I’m in Luxor again

We had a delicious meal here on a recommendation. You absolutely must order their pigeon. It’s an incredible dish - make sure you use your hands for to eat it for the full experience. Delicious Mezze too. Hummus, pita, baba ganoush, cheese sambousek - all on point. A stand out dinning experience in Luxor for sure. Friendly and attentive staff too.

The view at El-Kababgy during sunset was beautiful coupled with decent food, making way for what was potentially an enjoyable evening. Unfortunately, the service ruined the experience. We felt that we were being chased out of the restaurant, even though we had not sat for very long (30 - 45mins). A few of us had finished our meals, and the staff immediately started clearing our plates. One of our members was still eating but we were already being asked if we wanted the cheque. As soon as we paid, they immediately began cleaning the table. All of this was done so they could join our table with another group that had arrived, despite plenty of empty tables being available. This left a very bad taste in our mouth and made us feel unwelcome. No matter how nice the view is, we would defintiely not come back for this kind of treatment.

What a gem in the heart of Luxor! Our group of Rotarians, in town for the End Polio Now Marathon, had dinner here and were blown away by the hospitality. The staff at El-Kababgy are masters of their craft, serving up some of the best kababs I've ever had while making a large group feel completely at home. The service was fast, friendly, and incredibly welcoming. A fantastic experience from start to finish. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Egyptian food and five-star service!

👍They serve delicious food very fast, next to the Nile and for a good price. We ate mixed grill - kofta ( 💯✅ one of the best i ate, and i am from countries were kofta or ćevapi are common dish),shish kebab and chicken and their specialty Fatta bil lahm (a little bit spicy beef with rice and some tomato garlic sauce). Second time we tried tajin djaj and it was delicious too, besides the fabulously delicious koftas. Lemon with mint was very refreshing and tasty too.
Nemanja P — Google review
We loved this restaurant so much we came twice, once for dinner and again for lunch. The food was excellent: we tried two different soups (tomato and vegetable), both absolutely delicious, as well as the shish tawook, and the next day the tajin djaj, all perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The setting by the Nile is beautiful, quiet, peaceful, with felucca boats drifting nearby. The staff were very kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Highly recommended!

Great hosts and service they were very patient and kind with our group of 14. The hosts even brought out a sampler from the chef which was amazing and kind thank you again! Watermelon juice was amazing, fresh cold and not too frothy. Cheese samosas were the highlight of the meal. Amazing view

Elwaha restaurant&cafe in Luxor offers a delightful dining experience with its authentic Egyptian cuisine and comfortable ambiance. The delicious Mahshy, reminiscent of Turkish dolma, is a must-try, along with the flavorful eggplant salad and kofte with garlic. I was at the restaurant about a week ago. The food was absolutely delicious and I would have given five stars, except for the experience I had with one of the employees. As a visitor from America, I was really taken back when the male employee who was assisting me, started to ask me about what I did at night and who I was visiting and then was bold enough to ask if I had sexual relationships with the people I was visiting. I was extremely offended.. The questions he asked, and the manner in which he felt comfortable enough to ask me about my personal life, as well as commenting on my face and body was very inappropriate. I have traveled many places around the world and understand cultural differences, and reputations that foreigners visiting may or may not have. However, this is my third time visiting Egypt. I love Luxor and I love the people, but this man made me feel terrible. In all the countries I have visited, no one has ever made me feel so cheap, and so undervalued as a person. Because of the way this person made me feel I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone. He should be ashamed of himself. This restaurant is beautiful the food beautiful you should be more careful who you have representing your business and your beautiful city of Luxor West Bank.
Taryn H — Google review
We ate there 2 times. First time we got only 8 pieces of the Mahshi when it says 10 pieces on the menu. We informed the restaurant manager and we ended up getting 2 small pieces of what ever was left over in their kitchen. The food tasted good so we decided to come back the next day. We ordered 1 Khalta rice and ended up getting 2 Sayadiyah rice instead. On the menu it says that there should have raisins, but we didn’t find any in the rice. The Okra Tajen was very good though. So overall the service and service recovery needs major improvement, but the food tastes great.

Restaurant
Nestled in the charming city of Luxor, Metro Restaurant offers a delightful culinary journey that showcases the rich flavors and specialties of Upper Egypt. Diners can indulge in an array of generous dishes crafted with high-quality ingredients, all while enjoying breathtaking sunset views. The attentive staff, including standout team members like Hamdy and Luca, ensure that every guest feels welcomed and well-cared for. Their thoughtful recommendations and detailed explanations enhance the overall experience, making it truly memorable.
Found this through Google search as one of the good rated restaurants on Luxor. We had a family lunch here. The staff were pretty relaxed, the food was good. Lamb chops (ribs) were pretty good, and so was the chicken gravy and the rice mixed with vermillion pasta. Cappuccino was good, too. The staff guarding the restroom was very zealous, in a funny way, as he was spraying room fresheners and offering toilet papers all the time, so a tip is definitely recommended 😊

Had a great dinner watching the sunset with Yassin serving us. We ordered a bunch of dips and they also brought us a free tahini which was excellent! All the dips came with Egyptian bread. Really reasonable prices and not a tourist trap. Would highly recommend!!

I ate at Metro in July 2025, simply an EXCELLENT meal, plentiful and with great values, not to mention the entire wait staff who make you feel part of them! Congratulations on the excellent work, next time in Egypt I will definitely go back to Luxor just to eat there again.

Their food is so good! Grilled pigeon is a must try! Top level dish! Every dish i tried is so good! Even the vege soup and the dipping source they gave me for free was so tasty! I finished everything and ate much more than i should! Would definitely go back if I visit Luxor again! I rarely give 5 star for food. This restaurant totally deserves 5 star. Lucky they have such a good chef! the juice is good and fresh as well! Asked them to add no additional sugar in the juice and they followed the instruction. Price is very good for this level of food.

Go here. The most important thing to know about this place is that everybody running it is extremely honest and decent. Many people in the area want to overcharge us and scam us, so it is such a relief to come here, received great service, eat good food, and when the bill comes it was actually less than we expected. The servers actually gave us extra food which we were allowed to sample at no extra charge. The food itself is very good and there's some solid options here. The tahini especially was quite good. But yeah we really appreciate the character and decency of this business. Thank you.

Maxime's is a good place to get delicious food at a reasonable price. The menu has lots of choices for chicken and vegetable dishes, and the pepper steak is especially yummy. Super friendly service, all the staff are very lovely and helpful to westerners, and they speak English very well. Dishes ordered were served very quickly and elegantly. Meals were very delicious, especially the liver with lambs fat. Restaurant is air conditioned and downstairs shish bar has an old authentic feel and vibe. Don’t miss it!!

Absolutely phenomenal shisha, one of the best I’ve ever had. The food was also great — recommend the mixed grill and kofta. Very reasonable prices and staff were friendly and attentive. We went back three times in our two day stay in Luxor! Outdoor courtyard café area has a much better ambience than upstairs restaurant.
Jess — Google review
The worst experience I’ve ever had. It appears that the lack of hygiene was apparent, starting with the kitchen staff's dirty uniforms who were cooking near the entrance. Additionally, the salad was not fresh and appeared dry, and the bread was old, dry, and heated on a dirty stove, resulting in black marks on the bread service. The meat was also overcooked and had a bad taste. The worst part of the meal was discovering an eyelash hair in the soup, which is entirely unacceptable. The only redeeming factor was the side fries, which had a normal taste. Furthermore, there were no waitresses present in the restaurant hall, and the service was handled by the coffee shop downstairs, leading to further inconvenience. Although the prices were comparable to other restaurants, the overall experience was overpriced compared to the substandard quality and service. In conclusion, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, as the experience was unacceptable. Please stay away from this establishment.
