Noumea in 3 days

If you only have 3 days to spend in Noumea, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Nouméa, on Grand Terre in New Caledonia, combines South Pacific lagoon scenery with a distinctly French-influenced city vibe. Visitors can enjoy one of the world’s largest lagoons, with clear waters ideal for swimming, snorkeling, sailing and trips to nearby islets like Îlot Maître. The city offers palm-lined bays such as Anse Vata and Baie des Citrons, a lively café and restaurant scene, and markets showcasing local produce and Kanak handicrafts. Cultural stops like the Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre introduce travelers to the indigenous Kanak heritage and contemporary Pacific art.
With favorites like Plage de la Baie des Citrons, Place des Cocotiers, and Restaurant La Chaumière, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Uncle Hô and Le Bout Du Monde so you can get the best taste of Noumea while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Nature & Parks
Parks
Place des Cocotiers, located in the heart of Noumea, is a charming city-square park that has been a central gathering place since the late 19th century. The square features a central pavilion, wide walking paths, and lush greenery including palms and spreading trees. Visitors can relax beneath the flamboyant trees or enjoy free Wi-Fi throughout the square. Notable attractions include a band rotunda, a petanque pitch, and a giant chessboard.
Place des Cocotiers is like the heart of Noumea. It's this huge square surrounded by tall coconut trees, and it's always buzzing with activity. The ocean view is just stunning, perfect for watching the sunset. There are tons of restaurants and cafes around, so you can grab a bite to eat or a coffee and just chill. And there's always something going on, like festivals or markets. I could spend hours just people-watching and soaking up the atmosphere. Coming from Thailand, which is so far away, I really wish my hometown had a beautiful square like this.

Thursday markets!!! I didn’t see a mention of Thursday markets anywhere in any of the tourism literature for Noumea, and we stumbled on them by accident. So interesting, it’s clearly where the locals do their buying and selling of fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, pot plants, flowers, clothes, cut flowers and plants, jam, pickles, and loads of locally produced takeaway food for breakfast or lunch. There were a few cruise ship tourists but not many. We had a great time.
Sue M — Google review
We had an amazing day in Numea. City Park was the first place when we got off the shuttle bus. The location was great. The views were amazing. There was a lot of friendly people to greet us and let us know what was available to do. Bus tours and train bus tours etc. The park was child and wheelchair friendly. Overall a great place
Daryl H — Google review
Enjoyable for a shaded stroll on a hot day. Clean area. Some cafes along the far end. Locals go there for picnic lunches and shade.
Christina C — Google review
Interesting place with local vibes ! On a weekend there is a musical kiosk that plays a local music! The band is very vibrant! You can hear local song! It was a great experience. There is also a flea and street markets . People sell all kind of stuff. You can potentially find a little souvenir that you want to bring home. Everything is very cheap there. There are also few food tracks. Something good to experience when you are there!
Deanna — Google review
Very nice park in the center of town. There are many tropical trees, shrubs and flowers. There big tree shades that the locals and tourists can relax during hot noon.
Jonathan T — Google review
July 2023 - Lovely big open space in the middle of town. We had a short pit stop and wander before carrying on with our journey. Not much happening whilst we were there, but I imagine it gets really busy.
Jo D — Google review
This is the heart and center of the city. Very nice place to relax. It is hot in the morning but there are some shaded areas where you can hide. It is best to visit at night where you can see a lot of Christmas lights and feel the holiday season. There are also nearby stores where you can buy some stuff you need at night.

Market
Food & Drink
Farmers Markets
Noumea City Market, located beside Port Moselle, offers a vibrant array of local fruits, vegetables, meats, and fish. The maze-like market also features pastries, snacks, flowers, and crafts. While some visitors found the market lacking in action on Sundays with limited selection due to closed stalls focusing on tourist souvenirs; it remains a popular spot for locals to shop for fresh produce and other food supplies.
Noumea City Morning Market Visited on Friday, 6/12/2024 The Noumea City Morning Market, also known as the Port Moselle Market, is a few minutes’ walk from the cruise terminal. This is the first stop of the Hop-on Hop-Off bus. The market, with its distinctive blue roofs, is very clean, and floor dry throughout. It is composed of five small halls: • Fresh Produce Hall • Seafood Hall • Meat and Flowers Hall • Pastries and Baked Goods Hall • Handicrafts and Clothing Hall The fresh produce hall is filled with a wide variety of colorful tropical fruits such as bananas, pineapples, papayas, and mangoes, along with local produce especially yams, taro, etc. Non-tropical fruits such as apples, oranges, kiwi fruit, and pears are imported from Australia or New Zealand. The seafood hall, located in a separate building offers fresh catch by local fishermen, including fish, seafood, and crustaceans like lobster. There are imported varieties such salmon, tuna, prawns and shrimps on sale. The meat hall offers a variety of locally sourced meats, but lamb, duck and Venison are imported. Part of the flower / pastries hall is filled with local tropical flowers such as hibiscus, frangipani, and orchids. Bouquets and arrangements are made with a mix of local and imported flowers, including roses and tulips from cooler climates. There are coffee, pastries and baked products on sale, including my favourite croissants, and Danishes. This handicrats and clothing hall stocks many local unique products, including jewelry, pottery, and decorative pieces made by local artisans. It is important to note that the market is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 5 AM to 11 AM. I feel that it is a missed opportunity for food operators not to provide customers with the service to cook and consume their freshly purchased seafood on the premises.”
Sin C — Google review
We loved the cafe in the middle, the delicious pastries, and the relaxed vibe. Many of the souvenir products were low quality and very overpriced. There is one stall, though, that sold handmade coconut fibre jewellery with pearls. It was fantastic and well priced. This market is great if you are there for the cafe or are looking to buy some fresh fruit or vegetables.
Julie B — Google review
The fresh fruit and veggies were great, as well as fish. As for the other stalls not a lot to choose from. I was there NOT when a cruise ship was in town so everything light on the ground. When there are cruise ships in town everything ramps up to grab the $$$$$
Redfern R — Google review
Worth a visit to see the local produce and seafood. Easy walk from the cruise ship / ferry terminal. Good chance to buy souvenirs if nothing is open. Prices looked high, as expected in a tourist oriented market.
Clare M — Google review
It is a must visit, you can get some souvenirs, local produce, and seafood. Rather overpriced (as expected) since they tailor to tourists. Prices are typically 20-30% higher than in Australia (1 medium pineapple approx 10-13 AUD, 1kg bananas 10AUD). Souvenirs are made in China. For local crafts I was told to browse smaller art stores in the city but I didn’t have enough time to investigate.
Vitali A — Google review
As a tourist, was a tad bit disappointed not seeing any action going on here. Was expecting the local market to be filled with locals doing their morning shopping, and a fair bit more action than what I had. Maybe it's because it was a Sunday when we visited. As a local, there's not much selection whatsoever. Many stalls have since closed, leaving the space empty. Only a couple of vegetables, fish, fruits, and baked goods stalls are left. The rest, very much tourist souvenir good stands. You'll likely spend about 20 mins here, walking around, snapping photos, do some shopping, enjoy some coffee, and bask in the sea breeze, before moving on to your next stop.
Flo Y — Google review
Must visit for tourist to meet locals selling fresh fruits and vegetables, art and craft, souvenir, fish, prawns and crabs. Most resorts don't allow cooking so you may not want to buy alot. You can buy pineapple, pawpaw, fresh coconut water, banana, oranges and lots of other fruits. I don't understand why someone doesn't cooked fish and chips to try at the market. There is a little cafe in the middle to buy breakfast and FREE WiFi is also available. Bus stop is across the road so you can go back to your resort or cruise liner. The market is closed on Mondays and opens at 5am and closes at midday.
Yogesh N — Google review
Stop here for fresh vieneoisserie, baked bread, coffees! Huge selection of fresh produce! The locals sell their wares as well! Selection includes tshirts, sarongs, handmade soaps, vanilla bead pods/seasonings, fans, magnets, Plumeria flower headbands, jewelry, canvas tote bags and trinkets. One little section of stalls but enough if you’re looking for some souvenirs. They take AUS dollars and most folks take credit cards (mostly Visa, some take Amex). Nice little market. (On a side note- we visited the Johnston grocery store before we stopped here and found magnets, postcards and a few trinkets- along with awesome chocolates and snacks). It was great being able to use our Credit card to pay and not convert currency or pull from an ATM.

Marina
Port Moselle Harbour, located in the Quartier Latin of Noumea, is home to a vibrant marketplace known as Port Moselle Market. The market features covered stalls offering an abundance of fresh produce and seafood, including over 100 varieties of yams and a dedicated section for seafood. The market's distinctive blue-tiled pavilions house a wide range of goods, from local handicrafts to fresh foods, creating a colorful and aromatic atmosphere.
Huge marina of Noumea and most beautiful in my opinion. You can take a promenade along the water admiring views ! There are few place to stop and have a snack or a drink along the promenade. This is also a place where you can take a boat to other islands and get on a chu-chu train. Marina is surprisingly clean and water is so clean so you can see all sorts of fish and sea sneaks. Check out my videos. Its like a free aquarium for you !

Reasonable Prices, super friendly Staff, good sanitary facilities, directly at the excellent fresh fish, meat, fruit and veggie market. If you need a mechanic ask for Johann, best in the Pacific so far and we had a lot of engine problems. Highly recommended.

from this port we went on a day trip to the island where the doubletree hilton hotel is located for half a day. unfortunately we did not have good weather and so the cruises that day did not exist. all cruises depart from this port. while we were waiting at the port we visited the market there. with fresh fruits, vegetables, etc. it closes early of course until about 2 in the afternoon they have been picked

I'm not sure what sorry of review Google expects for this place from me... The place is clean, there are some ship, yachts and boats. You can take a boat there to L’ESCAPADE ILOT MAITRE and i believe to some other islands or just a cruise around Noumea. There's a parking lot next to the harbour. I hope it was helpful 😊

Nestled in Noumea's Quartier Latin, Au P'tit Café is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The restaurant prides itself on using fresh, local ingredients to create a diverse menu of French cuisine with a unique twist. Chef David Guihard curates a weekly rotating menu that emphasizes quality and seasonality, ensuring each visit offers a new culinary adventure. The friendly staff are fluent in both English and French, providing excellent service to all patrons.
Excellent food paired with excellent service. The manager was very polite and explained the menu in English very well. Despite being so busy we received our meals in 15 minutes, bookings are essential! I think we grabbed the last table for two when we walked in. Best cheesecake I've ever had in my life, so light and delicate! Just melted in your mouth with every bite.
Stefan M — Google review
Delightful meal. An eclectic menu and delicious food with the famous Passion Fruit Cheesecake that is light and fluffy making it almost like a ‘diet’ dessert ! The menu changes weekly and the produce is fresh and local. Served by wait staff giving just the right amount of attention as to not be overbearing. The staff brings a menu board to your table for you to select your main meal, wine and then your dessert… a very nice and stylish touch. Swift delivery of food after ordering Extensive wine selection.

Plage de la Baie des Citrons is a relaxed and family-friendly beach with calm waters, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. It's surrounded by trees and offers a variety of dining options, from French classics to island-inspired dishes. The nearby Noumea Yacht Club is within walking distance, and the area also boasts stunning views of the ocean and city. With several other beaches nearby, this spot provides a pleasant atmosphere with convenient amenities such as parking and shops.
Very nice beach. The water is quite calm and great for swimming.
NBAHA H — Google review
It is one of the best beaches in Noumea. Sadly, no one is in the water due to recent shark sightings. I visited 8th April 2023.
Cristy L — Google review
It's a lovely clean swimming area. Most is protected by shark nets. Also seating on bank. Good for families and singles. Restaurants run along promenade on opposite side of beach. Plenty of parking. Very busy and popular area with locals.
Redfern R — Google review
Lemon Bay is not bad in Nouméa! The beach is perfect for families tho—calm, clear water and fine sand make it great for swimming and relaxing. The pontoons offshore were a hit with my kids, who loved jumping off them. Snorkelling was surprisingly good, with colourful fish and a small reef to explore. The shady trees and grassy areas are ideal for a picnic or just chilling out. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants across the road expensive tho!, so you’re never far from a coffee or meal. Only downside: it can get busy on weekends, and some parts of the beach are a bit rocky, so bring water shoes. Easy to reach by bus from the city center.
M S — Google review
Lemon Bay is probably the best beach in Noumea surrounded by coconut trees. Must visit anytime of the day, sunrise or sunset. Beach is really calm and is perfect for kids and adults to swim. Plenty of parking, bus stop across the road and lots of restaurants and cafe next to the beach. The beach is about 10mins bus ride from Nouméa's international cruise liner port.
Yogesh N — Google review
Lemon beach is one of the best beach I see. My family has great time there, blue, white and green color water. Must see.

Beautiful bustling beach with lots of cafes and families Enough shade - my preference is the next beach around “Ana Vatu” which is quieter and more scenic

Beautiful Bay known as Baie des Citrons ,consisting of different beaches. As you stroll around you will find restaurants, cafes and boutiques, and hotels on one side. Walking on the beach side ,you notice that this is an area where both tourists and locals mix. Locals wind down after their wk day has finished either strolling or exercising. Lovely place to sit and have a picnic, swimming is safe and great for children. Found that you can spend a whole day there with something to do at all times. Stop and watch the locals playing "petanque" the french bowls or listen to locals strumming on their guitars. A must place to visit

Restaurant
Marmite et Tire-Bouchon is a contemporary French bistro located in Noumea, offering a dash of Gallic culinary flair and imagination. The restaurant has gained a reputation for its delicious meals, with the crab and apple gratin being described as creamy and crunchy, while the duck breast special is accompanied by a wonderful medley of sauces. The restaurant offers a three-course meal at an affordable price compared to similar dining experiences in other locations.
Great food, friendly service, great that staff do speak English as well. Yummy food, great ambience, had the open prawn ravioli and giant squid tentacle. Will be back again.
Sally C — Google review
Excellent French restaurant in Noumea. Marmite has 2 and 3-course dinner and I’d recommend the 3-course if you’re hungry as the portions are good . Ordered the grilled prawns & octopus as Mains - very good. Service is great too.
Ls C — Google review
I had dinner here and enjoyed the experience. I asked the staff for recommendations and started with the crab curry for my entrée. It was decent but a little bland for my taste. For the main, I went with the duck, which was also recommended, and it was surprisingly delicious even though I don’t usually eat duck. The lemon cake for dessert was the highlight of the meal, absolutely amazing. There was also a nice selection of wines to choose from. The service was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout the evening.

Wonderful dining experience here with great food, service, and wines to match. Produce was fresh and delicately prepared across a three course meal. Highly recommended.

We dined at this restaurant for lunch. I have to say this is the best food I have had in my life. The food combinations were interesting however worked great and each flavour profile complimented one another very well. It’s fine dining at it’s finest without the need to dress up. The food is very well priced and won’t break the bank. This restaurant is a must do in New Caledonia. I will 100% be dining here again if I return.

Marmite et Titre-Bouchon was such a lovely place to dine at! We were recommended to this place by one of the locals and did not regret it at all. The staff was absolutely accommodating in providing us a last minute booking on the day that we called (even though they were fully booked out). We loved the food so much we came back the very next night. It’s hard to find a place that executes both mains and desserts well but this restaurant did just that. We were floored by their execution of the food as they paid attention to both the taste, textures, and plating of the food. The deer with chocolate sauce was my personal favorite and look how well they cooked it! Absolutely no regrets :)
Rachel L — Google review
We went here twice whilst we were in Noumea. Hands down the best food and service. They are very busy, so you will need to book ahead. Both locals and tourists alike seem to find out and book it out! The maître de said they are booked out every evening for the last 3 years! The presentation and the freshness of the food is spectacular. I can highly recommend it for anyone that visits Noumea.

Nature & Parks
Park
Parc Zoologique Et Forestier Michel Corbasson, also known as Parc Forestier, is a 34-hectare park located in Noumea, New Caledonia. Established in 1962 to preserve dry forest and endemic species, it offers a unique blend of natural beauty and wildlife. The zoo houses a variety of local and exotic plants and animals within its botanical garden.
This zoo is an absolute delight to visit, offering a tranquil escape into nature. The park is beautifully maintained, with lush greenery and a variety of animals in thoughtfully designed enclosures. The highlight for me was seeing the peacocks and other exotic birds freely roaming around, adding a unique charm to the experience. The layout of the zoo makes it easy to explore, with plenty of shaded areas for a relaxing walk. A must-visit for families or anyone looking to connect with wildlife in a serene setting!
Kseniia F — Google review
This is a great park to visit in Noumea if you are into birds (not me). There is a good amount of walking and you can easily spend 1-2 hours here. There are also water refill stations and drinking fountains, which are especially useful on hot and humid days. The highlight was the catfish in the pond which followed us around (presumably because they were expecting food).
Will T — Google review
Managed to squeeze in a brief park walk on our last day & if you like beautiful plants and ample foliage to provide shade this is a great place to chill out - bring a picnic lunch there are lots of spots to settle on but no feeding the animals!! It was nice that the endemic fauna are close enough to really appreciate as I don’t think a cagou in the wild would have let us get so close. That said, some of the bird enclosures are a bit small though & we only checked out the endemic section so we never witnessed what others have mentioned about mammals being kept in very confined spaces which possibly exist in other sections. It’s quite hilly and the further you descend the longer you’ll inevitably need to ascend so keep this in mind if walking on inclines or declines are problematic. Would loved to have spent longer & made a half day of it
Michael Z — Google review
Nice large park to take a walk, but nothing too fancy regarding the animals. In particular the cages are quite basic and not really pretty. Petting zoo seems to be closed and has been for some time. In face of the small fee it might be worth a visit, but Nouméa has much better attractions if you have limited time. E.g. the Lagoon aquarium was otherworldly compared to this park/zoo.
Jan-Michael M — Google review
Nice Zoo, providing good views, with big variety of colourful birds and a few animals. Allow 2-3 hours minimum to see everything.
Андрей Л — Google review
Great value. Would recommend visiting to see a cagou as you may not have a chance in the wild. Otherwise some relatively interesting Caledonian birds and some foreign ones too. Don't expect to see much other than birds - the only mammal before European settlement was the bat.
Ro M — Google review
It's a small park, but it has some picnic areas and many local birds and other animals. Also several scenic overlooks. Good for small children.

Oncle Hô is a Vietnamese restaurant located at Mirage Plaza in Baie des Citrons, Noumea, New Caledonia. The restaurant provides various services and amenities such as takeout, reservations, outdoor seating, wheelchair accessibility, table service, and digital payments.
One of the best Asian Street food restaurants in city ! It’s very popular place and gets crowded with locals very quickly after opening, so if you don’t have booking make sure to come early or you are for long wait. Service is very nice and friendly, but not all of them speak English, so it gets funny sometimes tryptophan explain. Luckily there is English menu just ask for it. Food is simply amazing! Everything we tried was delicious and yummy and portions are quite generous. Several vegetarian and vegan options. Vegetarian spring rolls were fresh and crispy with fantastic sauce. Our favourite was Tom Khaa coconut soup, but also Tofu salad and Tofu wok with veggies were just delicious. Bun with tofu was also good, so the desert options such as lychee or Che Ho ! Will recommend this place to everyone and its must come back! There are some parking options on the street if you are lucky, easier on weekdays , almost impossible on weekends. Toilet is hidden and hard to find , few minutes walk. Overall it’s a must come back!

Lovely, fresh Vietnamese food. We tried several dishes. Flavour was good, servings were generous. It was open Monday evening which is a bonus as many other places were closed. The service was quick and attentive, however was a little pricy.

Great grilled chicken with honey (only choose it if you like sweet food, really) served with rice and good, old music to wait for your meal. The Cantonese rice is also tasty, though a bit dry to my taste. The employees are nice when there's not too many people (I didn't test it when the place is full and busy). The meals are expensive, but that's the case in all the area and it's even a bit cheaper than most places around.

Coming from a Vietnamese heritage this place is pretty good. The Pho Bo was spot on, right rationof beef to noddles and broth. My only gripe is that it's a bit overpriced for what it is. Overall happy with my meal.

Had to wait almost an hour for our food to arrive after ordering it. My wife's meal never came so she went without lunch. Explained our disappointment but all we got was a sorry with a smile. Also, very expensive. Two kids meals (chicken and chips) and two main meals (chicken curry and chicken noodle salad) came to $130 AUD.

Nestled in the heart of Port Moselle, Le Bout du Monde is a charming bar and restaurant that serves as an ideal retreat after a long day. With its inviting atmosphere, it's the perfect spot to unwind while watching the sun dip below the horizon behind moored boats. Whether you're enjoying cocktails with friends or colleagues, this venue offers a delightful open-air experience with stunning marina views.
Good Cafe & Restaurant in Port Moselle Noumea. It’s a big restaurant with a wide range of food& drinks menu. The breakfast is good - both the croissants & pain au chocolates together with the coffee really make my day. Do go for the set meal - cheaper than a La carte. Staff is friendly & food is served fast.

Relaxed, friendly pub vibes. We arrived pretty late on a Tuesday, the place was bustling and the staff were friendly if a bit busy. The oysters were fresh, large and tasty, the home made iced tea was yummy. Decent prices. This will probably be a frequent stop for us as it is right next to the boat shuttle for the Ilot Maître.

Very lousy service. Waited 10-15 minutes & no service. Had to get my own water. We had a menu for drinks and tapas. Asked the waitress if that is the menu, she said yes. After trying to figure out menu. She said there is another menu. We asked some question and she replied"this isn't her area and she doesn't know what they are doing today. I got up and left.

POOR SERVICE - In general, the waiters were clueless. The pizza overly was off and only after drinks were ordered and served and we had all decided on what to eat were we made aware that pizza was not an option. Shrimp and pasta dish I had was nearly flavorless although the shrimp were large and in good quantity. Getting follow up drinks was difficult and when the food when served, they had NO IDEA who had ordered what. Even w the drinks they would return and had no idea. Toward the end there a homeless guy that wandered into the seating area and kept asking everyone if he could drink their beers. Waitress did nothing. It was weird and uncomfortable. Finally, people smoked and while it was outside it was just freakin rude to smoke when others are eating. Plug in to the current global perspective on cigarette smoke! Won’t go back after spending nearly $70 USD on myself.
Astrofish — Google review
Location is good, staff super friendly and good vibe, but clearly way under staffed. I had to wait 25 mins for a menu, and the drinks came in dirty glasses. Only came here due to it being Sunday and everything else was closed.

Zero service. Impossible to order food and drinks without going to the bar. No one ever comes by to take your order. Ordered frites from a server and never received them. It’s always like this. The cocktails are not good but The mussels are good. Everyone smokes.
Brent — Google review
This is a very nice place to sit outside and have a drink in the evening, but they could use more waitstaff. Many people we know don't bother to wait and order their drinks directly from the bar, always a good option. Update: We just had lunch again there, and the fish tartare trio plate was outstanding. Thus, I'm adding another star.

McDonald's is a beloved fast-food institution that has stood the test of time, renowned for its mouthwatering burgers, crispy fries, and delightful shakes. Visitors often rave about the friendly service and clean environment, making it an inviting spot for families—especially with kids who can enjoy the fun playgrounds. Many travelers have noted how quickly their orders are prepared, allowing them to savor their meals without long waits.
In comparison to McDonalds in Australia, I was amazed with service. English isn't their first language. But managed to order. From the time my husband and I ordered to time we received our food, it was very fast. Congratulations on receiving 5 stars from me. Keep the great work.

My wife and I recently went on a cruise and visited the McDonald's in Noumea. The burgers were delicious, the place was clean and consistent, and the teamwork was top-notch. It's the only McDonald's on the island, and we had a great experience overall.

Pretty decent Maccas.. considering we've tried a few in other counties! Hot wings were yummy and also tried the choc donut which we dont get either of thess in NZ. Service was prompt and food came out super quick. Prices weren't too bad either! Staff were friendly and had good conversations with us while waiting too. Free wifi which is a bonus! 🥰

Always fun to find out what a French McD does better then standard New Zealand McD. Must admit the coke is so much better than home. Chocolate is not so great.

Really good service, have lots of parking, food rlly tasty, staff friendly (jokes around with us), playground rlly fun to play in (recommend the kids), staff cleans the table as soon as customer finishes, clean environment. If your a tourist, would recommend coming to here. The McFlurry bigger serves. P.s, food portion bigger than Australia

tl; dr.: It's a McDonald's There's really nothing open on a Sunday in Noumea, but this was one of the few places that were. On a very hot day, it was kind of a relief to to step into an air conditioned McDonald's w/ free wi-fi! It's also something to be said how every McDonald's in the world has mostly the same standard, and serve mostly the same things (with a few local tweaks). Can't say it was the most different or best McD's that I'd been to, but at the point, the air conditioning and the cold frozen Coke was worth it.

Restaurant La Chaumière is a charming spot located in the Latin Quarter, attracting locals with its affordable prices and delectable food. The menu offers a variety of French dishes, including escargot appetizers, goat cheese flan, beef cheeks, and duck thigh in tarragon sauce. The restaurant also serves Kanak delicacies using Caledonian and French ingredients. Guests can enjoy a lovely dining experience with attentive staff and an extensive wine selection.
Really lovey meal! My sister and I came here after reading many reviews and we were not disappointed. We got here at 6.50pm and it was empty, but 7.15 it was full. Lucky we got here early as we had no booking. We had the snails, mussels, the lamb shank and prawns and we shared all the dishes and was lovely. We had a bottle of red as well. The whole experience and staff were brilliant

Great French restaurant in Noumea city. La Chaumiere in the city centre serves good French cuisine- the 2 course dinner portion is big. Limited choice in the menu but the Duck is superb, while the Tuna is a tad too salty for me, but still delicious! The dessert Crème Boule is amazing, but I’ll recommend the Coffee Gourmand (that comes with coffee, mini crème boule, cakes and chocolate mousse). Service is great - friendly staffs.

Fantastic dining place near our hotel stay, the tuna au tartin was exquisite and it was accompanied by excellent sauvignon blanc (Dominique portet) and rose. My partner said it was the beat caesar salad she's ever had. The price was excellent at $69 for two in Noumea.

Lagoon Aquarium is a small but captivating aquarium that offers a diverse range of tropical fish, including the popular clownfish and blue tang fish. Visitors can also observe intriguing creatures such as nautilus mollusks and self-lighting flashlight fish. The aquarium features realistic habitats for various marine species found in New Caledonian waters, from sharks and sea snakes to turtles and stingrays.
A great activity to get out of the heat! Staff very friendly and aquarium life interesting to see. The turtles were amazing!! There was also a lookout for beautiful photos 📸

If you want to know what most of the fish that are in the local sea look like, come here. There’s a beautiful diversity of colorful creatures right in the aquarium, that you can then try to find if you snorkel at Bay of Lemons, Phare Amédée etc so you see what good collection of fish there is at the Lagoon aquarium. The behind the scenes visits are great as well. This is one of 2 places in the world where the ancient nautilus is bred successfully in house, the other aquarium is in Japan. We live here and visit very often.

This was the highlight of our trip to Noumea. What a wonderful place. So well run, and all of the tanks were gleaming and in great condition. All the marine life was looking healthy and relaxed. I was so impressed with the stunning coral displays and tropical fish. Saw several species I'd never seen before. The prices for admission were very reasonable. It was a bit of a line to get in, and it was hot! A bit more shading out the front would be great, but it was not a huge wait. The gift shop had some great items for sale, and nothing was overpriced. Bus stop across the road and made the location very convenient. Loved the outside veiwing pool where the turtle were lots of seating to relax before resuming your tour. I highly recommend visiting here to anyone thinking of checking it out.

We only had drinks this time so I can’t speak on the food but we will go back when it’s not raining. Can’t really complain about a place where you can sit in a beautiful beach and watch the sunset with great drinks and friendly staff

BEACHSIDE BAR - Such an amazing location and the restaurant is laid out to have great seats for everyone. Seats above and literally on the beach sand. Good drinks (could be stringer for the price ... omg!) and snacks, like the shrimp rolls. Maybe it is just me, but everything is sooooo expensive. Two Mai Tais and shrimp rolls for $63 USD.
Astrofish — Google review
This bar is fillled with locals and every afternoon it's busy as! because the sunsets are stunning! Not only that the tap beer is a reasonable price for this type of lounge/bar. The music is a cruisey Ibiza style and the bar staff are on the whole friendly...but when they are busy they can appear abrupt. We love it. If you want the sofa areas you need to book them some are right at the ocean edge so you can drink cocktails while dipping your toes 😍

We were on our South Pacific Cruise and our ship docked for the day at Noumea in early March. I read about this French Patisserie earlier and after a tour around Noumea went there. The patisserie was full of customers with a wide variety of baked products both sweet and savory. Honestly speaking most of the items on display were so enticing, I'd have loved to have most of them. But my mind was fixated on one of their signature items, the Croque Monsieur, a very traditional French sandwich. It's made with thick layers of ham between two loaves and the breads are thickly smeared with cheese and grilled. It's fantastic to taste and very filling, adequate for lunch for one person. Also had a Croissant, which was regular in taste. Overall we were amazed by this French eatery and if by any chance return to Noumea, would definitely come again. In the mean time wish other travelers who visit Noumea to enjoy this place.

Okay, I had a very high expectation for pastries in Noumea but this place really just disappointing. The croissant wasn’t flaky at all wasn’t buttery It was more like a brioche and there was nothing Wow about it and the service was rude as well rushing us to place an order while still checking up Whats on display is ridiculous. I definitely won’t come back here. Also super pricey for this bad quality. Honestly us in Sydney. We actually make a great pastries some of the best high-quality once in the world

Chanced upon this bar after our hop-on-hop-off bus ride from the cruise terminal, to the 2nd stop of Lemon Bay. I like that they're a micro brewery themselves, which also means they have their own beers and that's always exciting. Prices are very reasonable, although it's also not cheap. Paid about 200 AUD for the 4 of us for Lunch. Some beers, some bar food, nothing that required too much skills. Tried like their Le Brune dark beer, their L'Ambre semi-dark beer, and their seasonal Lemon Ginger beer. All very refreshing, and enjoyable, especially on a hot day. Bartender apparently used to work in Singapore, which was a nice touch.

WHERE’S the BEEF? — Noumea seems to have a common thread among its burger serving restaurants — laughably small burger patties on a huge bun (look at the picture!). This one was edible cuz the flavor and texture were ok, but why would this much meat cost $22?! The beer is good and they actually serve it as an option in large steins but each one was $20! So for me to have a “burger” fries and two big beers was $62. I’ll be going to the grocery store from now on.
Astrofish — Google review
This place is awesome made us feel very welcome as tourists. They take Australian dollars as well as local francs. Also there is a shuttle from the passenger terminal to lemon bay where this bar is located. The shuttle cost us $10 which is well worth is and the beers and food here are great. Le Fun Beach in New Caledonia is a popular and lively hotspot, especially for those seeking an energetic night out. Additionally, the restaurant at Le Fun offers a new concept called 'Steakstones' with panoramic views of the sea, making it an ideal spot for lunch on sunny days.
Highly recommended. Had dinner there twice. First time was with my 12y daughter and we had the goats cheese salad and steak tartare followed by Crepe Gerard and Lemon Meringue tart. The food was delicious and the staff very attentive and friendly. The second time I brought the boys (both 17) and we had the meat on hot stone plates. We tried the lamb, beef skewer and half duck. The meat was superb and we enjoyed the unlimited sides and sauces. We still had room for dessert and it was Crepe Gerard again (delectable) and creme brulee (nice portion, beautiful). Thanks to the team at Le Fun for 2 excellent evenings.

American restaurant
Texas Grill is a bustling restaurant known for its generous portions and delicious food. Visitors rave about the mouthwatering burgers, flavorful steaks, and fresh grilled tuna. The sides like fries and mixed vegetables are also highly praised. The portion sizes are notably large, staying true to the Texas theme. Guests appreciate the fair prices, attentive service, and welcoming staff. Additionally, the dessert options such as liegeois are described as spectacular.
Great food, fair prices, super service. The 300gr ribeye was a bit tough, but decent. The grilled tuna portion was huge and fresh and tasted great!
Rich A — Google review
We very much enjoyed the burgers here, and enjoyed the fries and especially the delicious mixed vegetables that came on the side. And the liegeois we had for dessert was spectacular! (Surprisingly, we've found a a number of Noumea restaurants serve terrible liegeois; so this one was a real find!)
Rich W — Google review
This was a busy place and you can tell why from the food. Amazing steaks, buttery sweet vegetables and tasty sauces. Huge portion sizes (probably the texas theme?) so you won't go hungry.

This was the most expensive and inedible meal I've had in 12 days in Noumea. The meat was undercooked, but maybe that's a French thing, otherwise it was sloppy, greasy, the bacon was cold and almost all fat, and the whole thing was covered in slimy cheese and awful gloopy barbeque sauce. It literally made me feel sick even though I only ate less than one third of it. There isn't even a nice view, it just looks out onto a busy road. Really I can't understand why this is highly rated, I've had lovely pho from the Vietnamese restaruant up the road which was fresh and delicious at one third of the cost of this gross meal. Big mistake, I felt like walking out when I saw the prices and I wish I had.
Ann L — Google review
Cosy indoor restaurant handy easy walk from Baie des Citrons. I only had a few side dishes which were delicious and reasonably priced. I didn't feel particularly welcome though, maybe because I was dining solo or didn't order enough.

Hamburger restaurant
Snack Ulysse in Noumea, New Caledonia offers a delightful blend of fast food and local flavors. Despite many restaurants being closed on Sunday nights, Snack Ulysse remains open until 9 pm, making it a convenient dining option. The restaurant is popular among locals and tourists alike for its fresh tuna salads, grilled prawns with rice, and delicious burgers. While the prices have increased slightly, the quality of the food and the portion sizes continue to impress visitors.
Fantastic range of food and quietly helpful staff. Couldn't fault it, we ate there a few times during our stay because we knew the quality of food and portion size were on point
Robert T — Google review
Very good burgers, friendly personnel that speak English. Although the prices went up quite a bit. If you're going to eat one big burger with fries and a drink, expect to pay over 2500, not like the old days. Still the quality is high and everything is fine so I'd still recommend it.

Best chips in the world!! Amazing cornflake chicken..delicious. cheap. Quick and great service!

Recommended by our hotel, this place serves up fantastic burgers. Service was super friendly too!
Von ( — Google review
Was a disappointing experience. Very average burgers with not fully cooked meat. If you can’t have that, make sure you ask for well-cooked meat. The fish in fish and chips was not fresh fish, tasted like frozen basa fish. Not acceptable for a place with access to fresh seafood. Spent around $70 for lunch for 2 people and deeply disappointed.
The K — Google review
This place was amazing the man behind the counter was very friendly and spoke great English. The burgers were delicious as were the other foods we tried and everything was reasonably priced. Highly recommend and will definitely visit when we are back in New Caledonia.
Nicola B — Google review
I just found this restaurant on google map by chance and came here for dinner on Sunday. Most of the restaurants are closed on Sunday night in this country but this restaurant opens on Sunday until 9 pm. The dishes my partner and I ordered were fresh tuna coming with salads and grilled prawn with some rice. These were really really good and I would come here until I died if I was given 3 months to live due to cancer or something. I saw many local people ordering for take away while I was waiting for my food. That’s a good sign to prove their foods are good.
澁谷和俊 — Google review
Super cheap and fair priced food compared to the rest of the city of Noumea. As tourists, all we do is eat out and we tried many restaurants for the week that we were there, this was by far the best priced for value. This little and simple street restaurant serves up great American food. Mixed with both locals and tourists, it's a great one to tick off the list when coming here.

The Tjibaou Cultural Centre, designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano, is a remarkable tribute to Kanak culture and heritage. The center's striking design features ten towering structures made of steel and timber, reminiscent of traditional Kanak huts. Located in a picturesque bayside forest setting, the center offers insights into Kanak culture through its museum, concert hall, and various exhibitions.
Important and interesting cultural landmark of New Caledonia. Explains rich history and culture of local Kanak peoples in beautiful Renzo Piano-designed architecture. Worth visiting to understand this archipelago more profoundly.
Dan T — Google review
Visit here totally surpassed my expectations! I had thought there might be a small visitor centre with a few exhibits and we called in on route to the Blue Lakes. However, it was well worth the one hour visit. Extremely culturally sensitive exhibits, impressive architecture, and beautiful surrounding walks. Highly recommend.
Valerie C — Google review
It was an interesting place to learn about the original inhabitants of Noumea, the Kanaks. We were immersed in their culture and way of life. Their respect and love to nature and how it reflects in their daily lives. It was a pleasurable walk and visiting the traditional houses was great. We saw how they are great architects and the functionality of the houses and its role in the community. It’s definitely worth a visit!
David L — Google review
I wish I could have a guide to get more context around the place. The centre was fascinating however videos were super interesting but far too long to take the appropriate time to look at them. A fabulous history with an enjoyable touch of art
Sonia B — Google review
If you have a couple of hours spare in Noumea, it's worth visiting the cultural centre, only 15min drive, cost 2000CXP. Don't miss the last guided tour at 2pm or walk on your own though most information in French, they have free wifi so you can always translate. Great sunset view as well.
Sally C — Google review
Saw the location on the map and decided to make the drive up there as no bus service is available. We were told it takes about 2 hours to view everything and that the ticket would allow us to come back and forth all day if we wished. Some installations were open to view, with limited English explanations, most in French (they do have signs up recommending using Google translate) so wifi and internet is needed. But lots of empty or locked areas that seemed a waste considering the size of the place. Maybe we were there at the wrong time of year, but it was a bit disappointing. No cafe for food and drinks, only vending machines with coke and coffee.
Caddie T — Google review
Tjibaou Cultural Centre is good to learn about Kanak heritage and modern island art.
Rachel — Google review
Disappointing: insufficient displays offer English translations, considering that this is a premier destination for overseas tourists. The sign offering free internet and translations appeared in one place only, and we only saw it after we had attended every exhibition. The cafe and gift shop were closed (it was Saturday). Also, there wasn’t actually that much info about Kanak traditional life eg food acquisition, production and trade; social and family structures and life; village and inter-tribal politics and customs; history of migration; music, not even in French. Good exhibition of carved wooden poles, and a lovely walk through the gardens with adequate information about spiritual beliefs and practices. Perhaps this place isn’t really intended for foreign visitors after all, but a centre for local traditional owners to gather and practice traditional arts and crafts in workshops and residency projects.

The Cathédrale Saint-Joseph à Nouméa is a 19th-century Catholic landmark featuring a historic carved altar and 26 stunning stained glass windows. This iconic cathedral showcases striking Gothic revival architecture and is perched on the heights of Noumea, offering a captivating experience with its ribbed vaults, apostle paintings, and unique period organ. The juxtaposition of this architectural gem with Kanak huts reflects cultural diversity and coexistence.
The Cathédrale Saint-Joseph à Nouméa is a remarkable display of Neo-Gothic architecture that captures the imagination of anyone who visits. The structure's facade is a blend of timeless elegance and intricate craftsmanship, with its soaring towers and detailed stonework standing as a testament to historical artistry. Inside, the cathedral boasts a serene atmosphere, enhanced by stunning stained-glass windows that filter sunlight into a kaleidoscope of colors across the interior. The vaulted ceilings and Gothic arches add to the majestic feel, creating a sense of awe and reverence. During my visit in July 2023, I was particularly impressed by how well-preserved the cathedral is, reflecting both its cultural significance and the care it receives.

This town is seriously something else! I mean, Sunday is Sunday here. Everything is closed! I think the cruise ship was trying to play a trick on me by bringing us here on a day when even the ghosts are taking a nap. I was planning to visit this awesome cathedral, but nope, it was shut tight. I guess you could say I had a front-row seat to a very quiet town. Lesson learned: check the days of the week before visiting a place like Noumea, New Caledonia. 'Closed' really means 'closed' here!

Very historical but poor ventilation. Bring your own fan. Just before Mass began, the church bells were rung for 10 to 15 minutes. Church has high vantage point over the city. Beautiful stained glass of saints and outside a magnificent Joan of Arc statute.

Impressive cathedral in the middle of Nouméa. Definitely worth visiting.

Very old Roman catholic cathedral looking gorgeous! Lots of stained glass windows with biblical figurines. Cathedral us not always open, so need to look for hours to visit inside. There is a statue of Joan de Arc in armour that was gifted to the cathedral in 1901. This cathedral sort of reminded me Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Rouen but without the spires on the tops of the towers and much smaller. If you will keep going up, you can se a panoramic view of thé Noumea’s port and it is worth it! It is a short 10 min walk up the hill.

Chocolats Morand is a renowned chocolate boutique in Noumea, run by master chocolatier Patrick Morand. With over 10 years of experience, Patrick's passion for chocolate is evident in his creations, which are inspired by local New Caledonian ingredients like vanilla bean and passionfruit. The shop offers a delightful assortment of chocolates and French macarons, including a standout mint-flavored dark chocolate that perfectly balances fresh mint with sweetness.
Variety of all kind of sweets! Tried many kind of chocolates and macaroons. Bought 2 dozens of macaroons. Ganache is superb! Did not want to leave the store really but had to take myself out before I bought more than I need. I recommend to visit that chocolate boutique if you are looking for a high quality chocolate. They also have all sorts of packed chocolate in a gift boxes , which is great! You definitely can pick something and won’t leave the store without buying anything. Yummy!

Walked into this lovely Chocolaterie late on a bank holiday, they very lovely and generous shop keep helped us with directions and then served us some delicious macarons. We just got to the Hilton Double Tree Noumea and are enjoying them for desert!! Yum!! Will be back for more of their delectable treats!

This place smells amazing as soon as you open the door. I didn't get to try their chocolate because I decided to give their macaroons a go. They were crispy on the outside, gooey in the inside and they have right amount of creame. If I have another chance, I would definitely try the chocolates.
Claudya D — Google review
Excellent chocolates and service. Rich flavors, well-balanced, and with some unique local flavors. My favorite was the tomato basil, local vanilla, and conbava (local citrus). Even the chocolate covered marshmallows were the best I’ve had. Highly recommend. Will go back soon.

An amazing chocolatier with delicious chocolates, macarons, madeleines and cakes of all sorts! The staff are welcoming and helpful. The products are well priced and undoubtedly the best French chocolates and macrons you’ll get in the Southern Hemisphere. A visit to noumea is not complete without a visit to chocolats Mourand! Try the tomato and Basil chocolate - sounds strange but it’s amazing!
Alex D — Google review
If you love chocolate, this is the best chocolatier in town. The confections are outstanding, even those which have flavors (basil, tomato, etc) you wouldn't think would go with chocolate. This is why we'd recommend starting with one of their mixed boxes (the second from the smallest gives a good assortment) to get a good sampling of many different things.

A museum where you can learn about the history of New Caledonia and her people. After enjoying the beaches, the trip to this Noumea Museum is fitting to understand the country and her people, the French colony and influence. The video documentaries on the politics and spread of Christianity are especially informative. At CFP300 for an adult, it’s truly a good place to learn about New Caledonia.
Ls C — Google review
Charming little museum exploring the history of New Caledonia (not sure why it's called Musée de la Ville when it doesn't really focus on the history of Nouméa very much). There are some very innovative displays and of course the airconditioning is a relief from Nouméa’s humidity, even if it's not especially cool!
Trevar S — Google review
A very nice museum dealing with the early history of Noumea and New Caledonia. Downstairs in the cellar (via a set of very narrow stairs) was an exhibit on France and French colonial forces in WW1 and the Karnak insurrection during the war. They also have a very nice model of Noumea at the turn of the 20th Century/late 19th century. For the real early history and maritime involvement the maritime museum is better, and WW2 history is covered in a separate museum. Cost is 200CPF and includes an audio guide
Robyn H — Google review
Small but very interesting telling of the history of this city/Country. The French, The native Kanaks and their place in History. Well presented in a glorious building that is worth a visit even if the museum was not housed there.

Free audio guide available in English. Written English translations on all the main stories about politics and history, although not on displays of ephemera such as household items from the 1950s, for example, where it didn’t matter as much. Interesting display in the basement on Australian soldiers in France, with translations on printed cards available on a nearby stand.

Nestled in the heart of Noumea, La Table des Gourmets is a culinary gem that showcases the rich flavors of New Caledonian cuisine. Under the expert guidance of Chef Thierry Delaunay, this charming restaurant transforms fresh local ingredients into exquisite dishes that blend traditional and contemporary techniques. The inviting atmosphere is complemented by an impressive wine selection, making it an ideal spot for romantic dinners or special celebrations.
We loved this restaurant as the menu was so different to most restaurants we visited in Noumea. We tried the snails which were excellent and juicy in their garlic butter. The duck salad was incredible with house smoked duck, tender and textual giblets and perfectly cooked duck liver on a mixed salad that was perfectly seasoned. My fellow diner said it’s the best thing he’s ever eaten. We finished with the ham hock, lentils and duck fat potatoes. It’s the house special and was perfect for an overcast, coolish night. The staff didn’t speak much English and were beautifully patient with us as we navigated the menu with google translate.

Whether you're craving a classic mojito or something more inventive, you'll find plenty to tantalize your taste buds.
I’m confident that we found the best Italian restaurant in Noumea. Delicious food. Great service. Lovely atmosphere. The photos show variously pasta dishes including lasagne, pizza, a salad (maybe needs a little more duck) and the marinated octopus. Be there at 7.00pm or book. Enjoy. We did.

Excellent Italian restaurant located a couple blocks back from the more touristy area. Service was incredible with friendly staff. Restaurant atmosphere was great and the food was really good. Much more affordable than other places around the area! Our best dining experience while visiting New Caledonia. 5 stars across the board!

If you are going to eat at a restaurant in Noumea- please make this a must! The food is authentic, staff accomodating (happily made changes to meet my vegan requirements), and prices quite reasonably competitive compared to the rest of the restaurants on the shoreline. This one is a little off the beaten track, however fear not! The walk is safe and generously lit. We loved our pizzas and will be back during our stay!

Very nice Italian food, just what we were hankering for on our day of arrival. Tasty traditional thin pizza, large pasta dish and caprese salad hit the mark for four people. Around 100 euros with soft drinks - about par pricing in Noumea.

Get away from the touristy restaurants (that all seem to be owned by the same company) and experience a wonderful meal where the locals go. This is a superb Italian restaurant with a large menu and friendly staff. They have menus in English and most of the staff can converse in English. The restaurant was recommended to us by our AirBnB host. A truly wonderful experience with fanstastic food. You will not regret eating here.
Mark — Google review
Amazing amazing food, wonderful staff who were patient with our lack of French. Perfectly cooked al dente pasta and Napoli pizzas with a reasonably priced wine list (all Italian for something different). So good we ate there twice during our week long stay. A great find & highly recommended.
McIntosh M — Google review
Located in a car park, surrounded by flies, our first impression wasn't great. The service was really poor. The fork we were given still had cheese on it from another customer and the condiments had insects in them (inside the oil they provide with bread). The pizza arrived with mushrooms on it when we specifically asked without mushrooms. Then a replacement pizza came out with burned edges. I raised all of the above concerns with the manager who didn't really seem to care. In the end she was smirking as she gave us the bill. You can get much better quality, views and flavour elsewhere on the island.
