Plaza
Plaza Mayor de San Francisco is a bustling public square in the heart of La Paz, Bolivia. It is dominated by a colonial-era cathedral and convent and features vibrant street art and regular fairs. The surrounding area offers diverse experiences, from the tree-lined Prado to the upscale neighborhood of Miraflores.
Beautiful church at the central square with such a lively space and many street foods! Yummy beef heart! Great place to watch people!

Great place to walk with significant history, some historical buildings this is known as Plaza Murillo and is located in the old town, Casco Viejoa and serves as the heart of Bolivia's political life. The plaza is surrounded by significant buildings such as the Presidential Palace, the National Congress of Bolivia, and the Cathedral of La Paz. It was originally named Plaza Mayor and later Plaza de Armas but it was renamed in honor of Pedro Murillo, a hero of Bolivia's independence. It’s a very vibrant place.
Ross D — Google review
I was there by 7 am on a Saturday. It was not crowded. The church was open to public and it was amazing.
Warshi D — Google review
This is the central square of La Paz. It is a wide open space, always busy and crowded with people. The traffic is heavy and the commerce non stop. It is the place where political protests gather. The basilica of San Francisco de Assisi is its most iconic building. It was built between the 16th and 17th century in Andean Baroque style.
Andreas K — Google review
Pretty enough but hardly world class in comparison to others
SB — Google review
Located in the historic center of La Paz, it's a beautiful building, surrounded by other cultural places and local traditional food. The city is really high above sea level, so take it slow, is difficult to do common stuff even walk and breath sometimes, so drink a lot of water and tea. @Aventure.dos
Jaime P — Google review
This seems to be the main plaza, there were lots of events going on here every day of our stay in La Paz. Food drink and souvenirs, you can find it all.

The Witches Market, also known as Mercado de las Brujas, is a unique and intriguing destination in La Paz. Located just a short walk from the hotel, this market offers a wide variety of items associated with strange and occult practices. Visitors can find dried llama fetuses, medicinal herbal remedies, aphrodisiac balms, ritual figurines, and more. The market is particularly known for its dried llama fetuses which are believed to bring good luck and protection.
Great artisanal market. Beautiful local goods such as scarves, bags, clothes in original lama or alpaca wool. Best place to buy souvenirs and to help the local economy. Plus it's a very nice walk to have close to other local attractions. Don't miss it!
Nathalie P — Google review
Visiting the Witches Market in La Paz was such a unique and unforgettable experience. The market is full of fascinating items, from traditional remedies to mystical charms and ritual supplies. Every seller I spoke with was incredibly friendly, patient, and eager to share their knowledge about local witchcraft traditions and spiritual beliefs. Their warm hospitality made exploring even more enjoyable. If you're ever in La Paz, don't miss this magical place-you'll leave with amazing memories and maybe even a special souvenir.
Christian L — Google review
Such a beautiful and interesting place. Filled with vibrant colours and everything you could possible need! Definitely worth a visit!
Ailish C — Google review
The Witches’ Market (Mercado de las Brujas / Mercado de Hechicería) is located around Calles Linares and Jiménez, near the historic district of La Paz, close to San Francisco Church. It’s run primarily by Aymara women (chifreras / yatiri) who sell items for traditional / spiritual practices (herbs, charms, potions, dried animals, etc.). It was designated as Intangible Cultural Heritage of La Paz partly because it is a living expression of cultural and spiritual traditions.
Vakhtang J — Google review
It’s really just a street lined with tourist shops - I wouldn’t call it much of an attraction. There’s a mixture of mass-produced textile crafts (clothing/bags/…), artisan alpaca-based stores, and some bohemian stores selling cultural items (probably the most interesting aspect of the street).
Harry W — Google review
The Witches’ Market in La Paz is a very unique place! You can find traditional items and it’s a great spot to buy souvenirs and Patagonia jackets.

A nice a great place to pass by, its quite smaller than what people mention but really fun PS: not creepy :p

So many stores and little trinkets to take home as gifts and souvenirs. A couple of restaurants there too. Whether you’re looking for local artists with their brand or general souvenirs you’ll definitely find it there

Flea & Street Markets
Mercado Rodríguez, also known as Lanza or Camacho markets, is a vibrant and bustling marketplace in La Paz, Bolivia. Here, vendors in colorful traditional dress sell a variety of goods including fish from Lake Titicaca and potatoes from the Andes. The market offers everyday dishes like Chairo soup and is especially lively on weekends when it spreads out over surrounding streets and squares. Visitors can sample Api, fresh fruit juices, exotic fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, and more.
We enjoyed this authentic mercado so much more than the touristy witches market, totally different experience. No souvenirs to buy, at least not on a weekday and the cholas don't like their pictures taken. We were utterly charmed and found prices fair.
Shivaya G — Google review
Beautiful market. Mostly eatable things but still very nice. Wish we had some thing like that at home.
Frank L — Google review
This is a must see if you are visiting La Paz. The market itself is quite large, the women wearing their traditional dresses are stunning and the place is busy and vibrant. Lots of vegetables, fruit, seafood and meat. Worth the walk here.
Team T — Google review
Green market. Fruit and vegetables mostly. A good part of local market to find fruit, vegetables, fish and egg. I enjoyed my time exploring it. During weekend it even gets bigger and more crowded
Zahra B — Google review
This is one of the most genuine experiences you will have in La Paz. The market is enormous, outdoor and indoor shops and kiosks, literally on the street, selling everything you will ever imagine. The market is not organized, there are no sections, and the best way to find what you will need is either by asking or walking up and down. People are very friendly and sweet, there is no risk whatsoever.
Andreas K — Google review
An O.G. Street market made for the locals by the locals. You can find any kind of meat, fish, vegetable, fruit, and anything else you can think of. A great experience in La Paz!
Stefano C — Google review
I love going to Mercado Rodriguez: fresh fruit, veggies, great meat. I tend to prefer afternoons as its a lot quieter and empty. Having a casera is the best. I definitely recommend going to this market, so fun and such a wide variety of products. The best!! Also great for buying cleaned fresh fish.

Sucre Square, also known as Plaza Sucre, is a green central square in the heart of the medium-sized city of Sucre. It features a statue of statesman Antonio José de Sucre and is overlooked by a small church. The square serves as a convenient meeting point and is surrounded by restaurants and shops. However, it's important to note that there is a famous prison located across the street, so caution is advised when considering any unofficial prison tours.
The tour was excellent! Matt was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable about the city, the history and culture. He was most entertaining and I would highly recommend this tour!
Scott F — Google review
The name they call this square is San Pedro. The prison is located here, you can pay to enter. Also people pay to live there as it has everything apparently. The square itself has a few vendors and a good ice-cream/milkshake place there also there's a church(San Pedro)

Interesting Square right beside the jail. Stories about the jail are more interesting that the square itself. Square has a lot of drunks hanging about. Also has nice view of church.
Simone B — Google review
A tidy public square, not too large, with a large statue that serves as a handy meeting point. This place is also called Plaza Sucre. There is a famous prison located right across the street; I was warned by a local tour guide to avoid all prison tours as they are not officially sanctioned and could be dangerous.

Wild Rover La Paz is a vibrant hostel that perfectly captures the spirit of adventure and fun in the heart of Bolivia's capital. With its lively Irish-themed bar, guests can enjoy regular live music and nightly drink specials, making it an ideal spot for those looking to socialize and party. The hostel boasts spacious common areas, including a cozy bean bag TV room with cable access and a sunny patio where you can unwind.
Excellent service from both the reception (thanks Jesùs!) as the activities company indoors. I could check-in at night, have a quiet night of sleep (even with the bar/party activities going on!), meet new people and make the most of my time in La Paz!

Salsa on Friday night with Pipe was the best!!! We had so much fun! There is such a great atmosphere in the bar and hostel in general and we’re really looking forward to all the other activities they have going on each day!
Carli T — Google review
This hostel is very fun and social. The bar has great vibes and Nelson was so high energy and fun. The rooms are clean and the place is much bigger than I first thought. The place feels very clean and seems like they regularly service the bathroom. The location is within walking distance of a lot of things. Overall, a great stay.

Absolutely interesting and entertaining cocktail mixing class from Moy and for free as well! Really a tasty cocktail ngl. Hostel itself really good and vibey aswell

Great place to stay. Meet lots of friendly people and the rooms are away from the bar if you don't want to get involved! The free mixology class is great fun. Also easy to book stuff at a reasonable rate with the on site travel agent!
Craig H — Google review
We booked a private double room which was really good - clean, private, quiet etc. It’s definitely a party hostel, although we found it to be too big/too busy to meet people. Theres only 1 bar and its PACKED to the rafters, you can’t barely move or get to order a drink let alone talk to people over the loud atmosphere. We wished for more opportunity to chat and get to know others. Staff were over it, which is kind of fair tourists are annoying, but still, not very nice or helpful. La Paz location isn’t great, you’re far away from anything like restaurant’s and markets and atms, you are better off staying by the Church (San Fransico) and up around the witches market to really be in La Paz.
Laura E — Google review
Hostel staff were helpful, but the noise in the dorms was a bit too much - couldn't get to sleep until 2:30am due to the loud music and partying directly outside the room. If you're planning to be part of the party it'd be fine, but if you've got anything on the next morning, skip this one! Moved to another hostel after one night which was the same price but much nicer and quieter.
Josiah B — Google review
Decent hostel and doesn’t live up to the party vibe which we were happy enough with. Lockers in room were too small could barely fit a 34L bag in them. The WiFi was dreadful. Strange experience where they pasted our names on a notice on the door asking us to come to reception ASAP…only to ask if we wanted to stay another night. We were not happy with our names and bed numbers being advertised on the door.

Plaza Murillo, located in the heart of La Paz's old town, is a grand square that serves as the epicenter of Bolivia's political life. Surrounded by stunning colonial architecture, this historic plaza is home to significant landmarks such as the Presidential Palace and the National Congress. The intricate facades and historical significance of these buildings offer visitors a glimpse into Bolivia's rich political and cultural heritage.
Ground zero of Bolivian politics, with the Presidential Palace and National Congress host here in some historic colonial buildings. Also a very beautiful cathedral is found in La Plaza and the open space around this square is very well guarded 24 hrs/day with plenty of military units and special police forces. The surrounding streets can be a nice surprise for visitors, with another main attractions of La Paz, starting from museums, mercados, boutique-shops, clubs, theaters, different churches and different impressive buildings.

Great to people watch and see Camino market 0km. Pigeons are pretty out of control, circa London 1985. Buildings of modern and old are mixed, changing of guards also possible to see. Only downside some off characters around, valuables as usual keep them close.

Full of pigeons, used to be great for pictures until that big ugly government tower was built. Still a significant part of the city, it is considered the starting point to measure distance in La Paz. You can find an old church, the old movie theatre and state buildings there.

Located in downtown La Paz, Bolivia, The Carrot Tree Centro is a popular spot among health-conscious travelers. This new addition to the city offers a menu filled with nutrient-rich and low-fat options such as pasta, salads, and sandwiches. The restaurant boasts an eclectic collection of Bolivian-inspired artwork that adds character to the place. With its rooftop location providing stunning views of the city skyline, this Irish-owned establishment also offers great brunch options and vegetarian dishes.
We came here for brunch and were really impressed by the extensive menu—lots of options to choose from! I had the Full Breakfast with extra avocado and it was really good. The coffee was surprisingly great too, and they had soy milk which was a plus. Service was alright, though it would’ve been nice to sit upstairs. Still, for the price and portion size, it was excellent value and kept us full all day!
Jennifer P — Google review
Had a lovely brunch / afternoon tea here. Hidden away but worth the find. Great food and gluten free options too. Service was friendly.
Gemma A — Google review
What a gem! Delicious vegan options and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Had the vegan breakfast platter that was quite filling and the pancakes. They were able to make them vegan, without egg and soy milk, they were like clouds! Sooo fluffy and delicious(mine were made with all purpose flour)! They also have the option to make them gluten free if necessary. Their lemongrass tea was a very nice surprise, very fresh and flavorful.
Yuriana L — Google review
The best place for breakfast in La Paz!! They have something for everyone (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free etc). The food is great and also good value for money. It's a nice place to chill and they have fast wifi as well. 10/10 service too!
Hannah S — Google review
50min wait for our food!! The desert (pancakes) had burnt parts and came with our main dish so by the time we started eating it, it was dry and we had to get an extra maple syrup for it to be edible. The best is to go to this place when there’s not a lot of people otherwise you might get a bad experience.
Chloé G — Google review
I think the main selling point of this place is the view. The food was large but didn't taste as good as I anticipated it to be. Staff speaks English. Overall I think there are better places to eat for cheaper
Guiping X — Google review
A truly lovely spot, amazingly located with a stellar view of the city on the upper level. The food is very generous in portion size (my partner had the pique macho and took some home), and very flavourful. We came here many times during our stay in La Paz. Got one of the breakfast / brunch platters and they kindly substituted the ham etc for really nicely cooked tofu. The fruit and granola was a perfect mid afternoon snack, and the huancaína pasta was super yummy. The brownie was good but the true dessert star is their maracuya / passionfruit cheesecake -- mind-blowing! It's a great place to spend a chill afternoon or grab any meal -- there's never any pressure to leave, and the vibes are just great. Already miss this place!
Gwen H — Google review
As a place himself it’s relaxing and food is served nicely… the taste and quality it’s not that great. I guess salad contains mainly carrots lol and there is no difference between chicken fillet and grill chicken. Also mashed potatoes supposed to be fluffy not water down crushed potatoes. Mushroom sauce is strait from cheap can . Almost now spies and zero dressing. It was recommended to us however we will definitely not recommend

The menu features unique Bolivian sandwiches on sourdough focaccia, charcuterie including llama charqui and salami, local cheese plates, and heartier dishes with Andean ingredients.
Hip, modern coffee bar in central La Paz that I visited several times. Decor and service are wonderful. They speak English here. Food is excellent and they really care about the sourcing of their ingredients, which are all Bolivian. This place caters toward western standards and prices. They even sell wine!

YOU MUST TRY TARTAR DE LLAMA!!! One of the best things I’ve ever eaten. It almost melts in your mouth. The other food was also good but that was a stand out winner. The coffee was good and I loved the aesthetic of this place too. Staff were lovely! Worth the price.
Laura X — Google review
The place has a fenomenal atmosphere and decoration. Waiters are not experienced and not welcoming. The menu was missing 30% of the dishes and only a small amount if the cakes. We ordered 2 capuccinos, one carrot cake and one sandwich de lomo. Capuccinos arrived cold and hat to send the back to warm them. The carrit cake was good. The sandwich was terrible. Meat was overcooked and old. It was cold with soggy bread. Seemed like it was done 7 hrs ago with meat cooked days ago and definitely not sirloin. Very hard and chewy. Took a bite and had to return it. Staff did not agree and pushed to do the full charge, which show the lack of experience and no customer service training. Terrible experience and overpriced

Popular Cocina Boliviana is a small restaurant in La Paz that's popular among locals and visitors alike. The name truly reflects its status as a gem of the city, with a first-come, first-serve policy and long lines forming even before it opens. The three-course prix fixe menu offers traditional Bolivian flavors at an affordable price, making it well worth the wait.
We arrived at 11:30 and were seated when the restaurant opened at 12. What followed was a quick, seamless experience packed with local flavour and friendliness. The restaurant offers an innovative take on Bolivian cuisine. Every dish felt exciting and comforting, with fresh flavors that showcase the quality of ingredients and thought put in to each recipe. Service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. We were in and out quickly, but never felt rushed. I’ll be back if I return to La Paz. Highly recommended for anyone curious about bold, inventive food with a warm neighborhood feel.

Absolutely amazing food in La Paz, some of the best during my South America trip. Make sure you get there early, no table bookings and a need to queue. Be careful as many have a local guide queue for them, this means a group of 10 could be in front of you without realising. Simple menu, we chose to share to enjoy we got to try all things available…all dish’s made to perfection and a great experience. We got to sit at the bar and loved feeling like we were in the kitchen with the efficient buzz of the team. 2 hour sitting is pretty strict as they sit people straight into your seats, making the most of their popularity and good food.

Just a nice experience :) went here twice because the food was so delicious. You can chose one from two starters and two desserts and three main courses. For the money of 99 BoB with a drink included absolutely amazing. It’s nice to feel a little bit bougie for the price with how they decorate the meals. Would recommend going 11:30 am before opening to stand in line. Otherwise there’s a chance to put your name on the list and come back at 1:30 pm.
Kristina R — Google review
I really appreciate the concept of this restaurant! This restaurant is open only for lunch, between 12:00 and 14:30. Be quick as it gets busy very fast. If you come early enough but it's already full, you can put yourself on the waiting list for the same day and get assigned a time to return. For only 99 BOB (as of October 2025) you get a three course menu consisting of a starter, a main and a desert. The price also already includes a beverage. You can pick from approximately 3 starters, 4 mains and two deserts. The menu varies frequently. The food is a modern interpretation of traditional Bolivian dishes. All dishes are prepared and presented to the highest standards. Definitely a recommendation if you happen to be in La Paz!

Amazing! What a cool culinary experience. Great service, buzzy atmosphere and worth the hype. Incredible value, 3 course meal with drink for around £10!! Vegetarian options were great. The starter was my favourite - delicious Russian salad tart, the best pastry I’ve had in months. The chicken main wasn’t my favourite, but a very interesting and experimental dish nonetheless, a unique experience. Lovely waitstaff that gave you an explanation of each dish and very attentive without being too much or feeling rushed, especially given they don’t have a long service window and lots of eager customers. A must go to if you’re in La Paz!

Absolutely delicious and beautifully presented food. Such a good price for what you get (99 bolivianos as of October 2025), and the portions are big too! We queued at 11.40 and got into the first sitting but you can give them your name if you don’t get in at 12pm and come back for 1.30pm.
Aoife N — Google review
One of the outstanding things to do in Bolivia. Michelin star quality & presentation. Incredible value as they include bread, juice & water with the 3 courses for 99bs. To avoid queueing you can arrive at 12:15 when all the tables will be taken and get on the list to walk right in at 1:15! Planning my 3rd visit!

Great restuarant for a unique food experience. The staff and service are great, the food amazing. Recommendations: Get to the restaurant to join the cue for midday service between 11:00 - 11:30 am. It is busy and a bit noisy, so don't expect to linger over your meal as if at a fine dining tasting menu restuarant. If you are on your own, see if you can team up with another diner to share the experience. Single diners tend to get placed at the "bar" looking into the kitchen, which is a unique experience on its own.

Day 2

South side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the south side side of town. Start the day off with Hernando Siles Stadium, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Mi Teleferico Línea Blanca - Estación Plaza Villarroel. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Arenas & Stadiums
Hernando Siles Stadium, located in La Paz, offers visitors the chance to witness thrilling soccer matches and immerse themselves in the city's passion for football. The stadium hosts national team games as well as local professional team matches, particularly those between The Strongest and Bolivar teams. Situated amidst scenic mountains, the stadium also serves as a venue for marathons and running events throughout the year.
This is where the national team plays and at times local professional teams. You can get reasonably priced tickets also in the street even for sold out games, but be careful with people selling fake tickets. The stadium is in a central location and from afar makes for a scenic photo. During game days the transport around the Stadium is disrupted. And even when the stadium is half there is a great atmosphere.

Great when there's a football match on involving one of the two big local clubs: Bolivar (La Academia) or The Strongest (Tigre). Especially great when these two play the local derby. Don't expect a quality match, but do expect both teams and their fans to give it their all in typical South American fashion.

There is always food options (try to chose the boiled or fried options). Worth to visit in Alasitas fair (at the end of January)

Shopping mall
Las Torres Mall is a large mall with many stores. It is in a city near the beach.
Modern, very clean and well maintained mall with lots of stores (mainly electronics and clothing), restaurants (from fast food to nicer) and a supermarket. It's conveniently located in a very central area of La Paz, but it's distinguishing feature is that the modern part is located in a rear position to the street and to enter the mall you pass either through a courtyard or inside a building that looks like an old French chateau and is connected to the newer building via a glass skybridge on the second floor.

Not bad for a shopping mall just to hang out and catch a movie its 20 bobs to watch one. Good chicken place called planet chicken in the food court area. Mondays and Tuesdays they have a combo deal. Entrance may catch a person off guard on how elegant it looks thats because the hotel is above the mall.

I'm very upset with the toilets in Las Torres Mall, I figured out that this services would be to exclusive use for it's customers, but I'm a frecuent visitar I got surprised that any individual from the streets can get in the bathrooms and make a wrong use of the sinks and toilets inside, getting flours wet, splashing the tables, using toilet paper and towel paper to exaust and Even I Saw some personas dischargin paper on the flours without any care...Guards va are as usual playing with phones or chatting among themselves around...

Jardín Botánico is a serene oasis in the midst of the bustling city, boasting over 1,700 native plants. While not as expansive as other gardens, it is meticulously maintained and offers a tranquil environment for visitors to enjoy. The minimal entrance fee grants access to a well-kept space where basic rules ensure cleanliness and preservation of the flora and fauna. Visitors can expect to engage in birdwatching amidst the mild wildlife presence while exploring ample photography opportunities.
There was a vegan festival. The premises were well taken care of. No access to the inside gardens though

Nice park with cheap entrance fee (1 boliviano). They won't have change so bring coins. I enjoyed the peace and relaxation but sadly the greenhouses were all locked up. Worth the price if admission and you can sit and relax for an hour or so here. Interesting views of the Barrio across the highway.

Relatively small and not so biodiversity rich garden, but still like a an oasis in La Paz
Niko H — Google review
For 1 Bs it's a nice green space to walk around for 30-60 minutes. There's not a lot of green space in La Paz, so it's a nice respite. But beyond some stone paths on the hillside, there's not a lot of biodiversity for a botanical garden.
Daniel — Google review
Beautiful garden. Not as big as others but well taken care. Price for visiting is minimal, just follow basic rules like keeping the place clean, not stepping in the grass or touching all the flowers. Wildlife in the city is not overwhelming, so be ready for a little birdwatching and that's it. Great place to walk around. There is a specific big area on the lower level you can step in, maybe sit down in the grass. Plenty of photography opportunities. No tents or dogs allowed. Not wheelchair accessible.

Spanish restaurant
El Rincón Español is a cozy traditional eatery located just off Plaza Avaroa. The restaurant's ambience is enhanced by dark wooden beams and Spanish flags flying around the bar. One of their highly recommended dishes is the paella valenciana, which is traditionally cooked with rabbit, chicken, and butter beans for an authentic flavor. Visitors have praised the great service and atmosphere at this restaurant.
It's small but amazing. Yeah, the price is a bit higher, but you can also spend a few hours in the restaurant, so it makes sense.
Robin L — Google review
Great service and atmosphere, it is a very cozy restaurant. The food was ok but for the high price I expected much more. I ordered one paella Rincon for two people, it was average. I felt there was only a bit of seafood in it and the flavor wasn't something special enough to recommend this restaurant or go back there and try another dish. They served a nice entrance with baked bread in olive oil and a chilly sauce. Maybe my expectations were too high because the previous paella I tried was in Valencia, the home birth of the dish.

Paladar Cozinha Brasileira is a Brazilian restaurant located in the Miraflores neighborhood, offering a variety of regional dishes that are perfect for sharing with friends and family. The menu features feijoadas, grilled meats, and the chef's famous brigadeiros. Guests can expect generous portions at reasonable prices, making it an ideal spot to savor authentic Brazilian flavors.
Authentic Brazilian food, prices are good according to the big portions you get. The flacour of the food is almost the same as eating in Brazil. They have a restaurant in SouthTown (San Miguel the fanciest and most residential area in La Paz) but prices are a bit mor expensive and portions are smaller, pretty weird considering it’s the same owners and same restaurant name. I've always really loved Vienna, it's a true classic. Every dish I've ever had is great: meats, fish, Bolivian food, German specialties. I would highly recommend their Sajta, anything with Spaetzel, Pork knee and their Smoked ribs. This time I had the Bife de chorizo and it didn't disappoint.

A restaurant with one of the most comfortable, warm, and cozy atmospheres in La Paz! The food is spectacular. The pork knot with garlic sauce has a very pleasant flavor. Every detail of the dish was carefully prepared. The dedication to each of their dishes is remarkable. The service is one of the best you'll find. The staff is very friendly, attentive, and cordial. Such treatment is truly enjoyable. It's important to make a reservation a few days in advance of your visit so they can have your table ready for the number of people you require. I recommend visiting on Friday nights to enjoy the live music of the pianist, which creates the ideal atmosphere for dinner. 100% recommended!

Valle de la Luna, also known as Valley of the Moon, is a unique area with trails and peculiar rock formations shaped by mountain erosion. The landscape is characterized by its lunar-like appearance, created by a combination of heavy precipitation over the years and soft volcanic soil. Situated near La Paz, this dramatic badland features natural amphitheaters and eroded rock walls that crumble under your fingertips.
Absolutely stunning! 15 min from La Paz South, you have to go and see those incredible landscapes. Between Star Wars and the moon, it's a great site to visit. There are 2 tours, a 15 min and a 45 min one. The 45 min is the best. From the Teleférico green line last stop you can catch a collective bus or grab a cab. The entrance fee is 20 BOB. Totally worth it!

I visited Moon valley with a tour group in October 2025. Moon valley has sandstones and clay rich columnar structures and located in the lowest altitude of La Paz. As explained by our tour guide Milena, the origin of name is related to the astronaut Neil Amstrong. He saw a shiny patch on earth from moon and decided to visit the place once he arrived on earth. So that brought him to salt marshes in Bolivia. During the visit he arrived at La Paz valley and noted the present moon valley area. So he called out that it looks like in moon and so came the name Moon Valley 😊 Many foreigners and rich people and those having high blood pressure problems selected moon valley area as their residence because of favorable climatic conditions there. Also altitude sickness is not a big issue in this part. It’s very touristic and well managed by the government. But I still prefer the Animas Valley, which is not very accessible and having less facilities for tourists over Moon Valley 😊

Interesting place to see, different kind of landscape but don't expect any world wonders. Park is pretty run down and in need of maintenance with holes in the paths and broken bridges.
Niek W — Google review
After reading the reviews, I nearly was discouraged not to go. Some complain of this or that, look take a Trufi(local transport) which will leave you right at the entrance of it for BS3.8 one way and the same to return to downtown La Paz. Thus it is an amazing place. Sit down, take in the sights and enjoy. BS20 to get in, thus 28 Bolivianos at the most it’ll be what it’ll ran you. About $2.05 if that. Water and sunscreen if ya worry about the sun. From La Paz to here it’ll be a tad bit warmer because you’ll be coming down a bit lower than the 3600ish altitude!

Nestled in the vibrant city of La Paz, Bolivia, the Bioparque Municipal Vesty Pakos Sofro stands as a testament to wildlife conservation and education. Formerly known as the Municipal Zoo of La Paz, this biopark is managed by the local government and proudly holds membership in the Latin American Association of Parks, Zoos, and Aquariums (ALPZA).
Previously it was a zoo but now there are only rescued animals, there is a great variety of Andean fauna, it is worth the visit
Javier C — Google review
I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews. It's not the best zoo I've seen but it was well worth a visit (and the trip to it is memorable). Many reviews say it's dirty or the animals aren't treated well; I can't confirm that. We only saw one animal that was pacing and not doing well. The condors and the alpacas are amazing. Not a lot of shade; bring a hat or parasol.

Mallasa Zoo used to be a nice zoo to visit, with plenty of space to walk and enjoy seeing the animals, but with the pandemic there are now many restrictions and you cannot see, for example, the feline area. However, the surrounding area has many kiosks to eat and enjoy with the family. It is a nice place to go for a car or bicycle ride.

Justin T — Google review
This is a great rescue center for wild animals, probably the largest in Bolivia, were you can also volunteer. Ask for a guided tour to understand well all the work they do. Visiting helps with 60% of the founding to keep the zoo running. I have found that many people, including myself, have a misconception about zoos, they are no places were wild animals are kept in cages that otherwise would be free, but rather they receive wild animals that have been rescued from animal traffic and in many cases found out of their habitat because of the lost of it due to agriculture, ranching, and deforestation expansion. They treat their injuries, feed them with a balanced diet for that species and age, reintroduce them to other animals when possible (same or different species), do enrichment for behavior preservation, and clean their living areas 365 days a year, as a consequence animals live 40 to 50% longer than in the wild (that's why most animals look not in their best shape: they are reallllly old!) The Zookeepers and Vets do a Great work! In some cases they also keep a breeding group of animals in case the species gets extinct in the wild. I am aware of the excellent work they do because my wife volunteered there for quite some time.

South American restaurant
Gustu, which means "flavor" in Quechua, is a must-visit gourmet restaurant in La Paz, Bolivia. The restaurant not only offers beautifully plated dishes but also takes pride in highlighting exclusively Bolivian products supplied directly by small producers from indigenous rural communities. It serves as a platform for local talents and operates as a socially-committed enterprise.
Everything here was first-class. I am so glad I ate here! My group of three had diverse dietary requests, which made everything complicated. The staff handled our needs expertly. The food was attractive and delicious. The open kitchen was spotlessly clean. The servers were knowledgeable and efficient. I was glad to learn more about Bolivian ingredients.

We did the 13 (I think) course tasting menu. Cocktail was nice. They offered me a taste of two wines before I selected which I thought was a nice touch. The food was hit and miss and a bit too out there for me. For example, one dish was a whole crab or some kind of shellfish 🦞, I did not want to crunch the thing whole so I just ate the cracker. Next was the alligator meat served in an almond/cheesy milk sauce. It did not work. Not sure if it’s the aligator meat or the combo but I didn’t like it. The ‘surprise’ dish turned out to be cow tongue and brain which I would have preferred to know in advance. That being said, the tongue aspect was nice - the brain part was not. I could barely get any meat off the pigeon. The ice cream flavour combination did not work, a bit sour. The other dishes were nice, I especially liked the onion appetiser and the pear palate cleanser. Service was good, everyone was friendly and helpful; some of the descriptions could have been delivered a little slower for tourists but they did their best in their second language. The view into the kitchen was nice and I enjoyed watching them work. The kitchen staff were taking great care to plate every thing up nicely. I think for the price point, the food and flavours here needs to be better balanced and reliable.

Gustu was an amazing dinning experience. We had the full tasting menu with wine and cocktail pairing. The attentive service with both Spanish and English explanations was excellent! One of the dishes is served without an explanation because they want you to explain it after tasting it 😲😂

Gustu is Bolivia's answer to world' best gastronomy collective. They use indigenous ingredients freshly prepared in art form marrying up the best of taste and texture. Excellent Bolivian wines are on their menu too. Beautiful decor and ambience compliment the whole presentation. The knowledge and attentiveness by the staff is world class. If one is in Bolivia, one must make Gustu an intentional visit. Price wise, one gets comparable European experience for a third of what one would pay in Europe.

Excellent restaurant marked by professionalism and creativity. The menu is a celebration of the Amazon (the alligator ceviche is positively astonishing), crafted by the staff from a completely open kitchen. You can truly see the passion, attention to detail, and high standards. The cocktails offered as pairings are also very good. Outside the restaurant, there is a small garden where the kitchen sometimes harvests ingredients to incorporate directly into the dishes.

Eating here was a spiritual experience. I have to admit, I cried a little after eating one of the dishes. So many new flavors from unique local ingredients, I also had a great view of the kitchen with deceptively young chefs. Eat here now before it becomes prohibitively expensive!

Mandatory for whoever enjoys authentic wine and food pairings, this restaurant paints a picture of Bolívia in wine and food. Brilliant interpretations of local gastronomy. Just excellent.

If you’re looking for extraordinary value for money and extraordinary food, then you must book a table at Gustu. Proudly showcasing Bolivian produce and know-how, together with flawless Noma-esque precision and technique, this meal will be remembered for a long time. I was just a bit disappointed the last savoury dish (rabbit) had a fish flavour - I usually love rabbit and the texture of the meat was divine, but one single bite made me gag (I don’t eat fish / seafood). I really appreciated the lovely replacements to fish / seafood dishes they made for me btw. Service was professional and friendly (though struggling in English), premises are arty and interesting.

Restaurant
El Vagón del Sur is a popular establishment located in the southern part of La Paz, Bolivia. The restaurant, housed in a converted family home, exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere that keeps locals coming back for more. It offers traditional Bolivian dishes with a fusion twist, prepared with an emphasis on fresh and local ingredients. The menu features hearty meat, chicken, and fish dishes combined with flavorful spices and served alongside fresh vegetables.
Great restaurant, one of the best places to eat traditional Bolivian food, the chicharrón de cerdo is the best in town for me, the picante surtido is also perfect.

It is the Best Restaurant for Traditional Exquisite Bolivian Food Exquisite taste. Atmosphere and Service The attention is very personalize
Paul — Google review
The food was phenomenal. If you want authentic bolivian food, this is the place. I usually get the Charquekan, which is my favourite. This last time I had pique macho and it was incredible. Anytime i go there with bolivians, they always get the Aji de lengua, which is cow tongue. A bolivian delicacy everyone really likes. As good as it gets when it comes to bolivian food. Everyone is very friendly
J. A — Google review
The food was much below the average, not fresh and salty old sauce. Service is very good, atmosphere was good. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.
LL. Z — Google review
The restaurant is located on a quiet, safe street. The place is clean and the staff is attentive. They give you complimentary fresh bread and butter+2 types of sauce as well as some tiny delish empanadas. The place is clean and spacious. We stayed outside and it was great. Shade with the umbrellas. The soup plates are very, very, very big. 2 or 3 people can definitely share a soup. The tiramisu was delicious but it was not the classic one, it had a lot of tasty strawberries. The pisco sour was indeed sour and one of the best I've had ( if you like sour) . My friend had trucha and she liked it a lot. Thia restaurant has some good quality Peruvian food.

Overpriced bolivian dishes. Not much to add. Better invest in a Popular experience that not only brings variety but also a good mix of flavors.

Super tasty true Bolivian food (I got the queso humacha), with sizeable portions. Atmosphere and service were great!

Atix Hotel

Hotel
Atix Hotel in La Paz offers sleek and modern accommodations with a touch of Bolivian tradition. The hotel's contemporary design, featuring native Bolivian wood and Comanche stone, provides a luxurious setting for guests. Ona restaurant on the first floor serves traditional Bolivian cuisine, while 591 Bar on the rooftop offers world-class cocktails with a stunning view of the Andean valley. Guests can enjoy complimentary welcome drinks and daily breakfast.
We had such a wonderful stay at Atix. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a comfortable stay and had everything we needed. The breakfast is brilliant and excellent quality. But the highlight is the pool area, which is incredibly relaxing with a wonderful view of the mountains. The rooms were exceptionally clean with a very comfy bed! We checked out at midnight to make an early flight and they prepared a breakfast to go for us. Couldn’t recommend this beautiful hotel more, I wish we could have stayed longer!
Katie L — Google review
We loved our stay at Atix! The staff was so helpful and nice, our room was comfortable and quiet. All the art in the building is so unique and it gave the hotel a great personality. We also absolutely loved the indoor pool and sauna. We watched the most beautiful sunset overlooking the city and Mountain View from the pool while eating empanadas from the pool area. Incredible stay. Definitely recommend!!
Natasha R — Google review
We stayed 2 nights at Hotel Atix in La Paz. The hotel is located outside the city center, in a very quiet and safe neighborhood, which is a definite plus. However, the rooms and the pool area feel outdated and would greatly benefit from renovation to meet modern standards. The true highlight of our stay was the restaurant. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of choices, and we enjoyed dining there twice in the evenings. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by a serious issue regarding food allergies. Despite informing the hotel of our allergies days in advance, they were not properly respected during our second dinner. This led to an allergic reaction for one member of our group. Thankfully, we had medication and an epipen on hand, allowing us to control the situation quickly. The restaurant staff apologized, explaining they had not been informed and admitted they should have double-checked, which they failed to do. The allergen was also not listed on the menu, so we had no way of knowing before ordering. They replaced the dishes immediately but did not offer any significant compensation aside from not charging for the returned plates. Upon checkout, after some negotiation, we were only credited for those dishes. This experience highlights the importance of strict allergy management, especially in hospitality, and is something future guests with allergies should be aware of.

Really enjoyed our stay. Classy spot with visually pleasing art. Staff was helpful. Rooms comfy. Breakfast was wonderful with lots of vegan options. The gym was extremely busy at times making it hard to access. Would recommend Atix Hotel and happily stay again.
Violet — Google review
What an amazing hotel. The staff here were exceptional. We stayed 2 nights here and had a very comfortable stay. The rooms were clean, comfortable and had everything you need. The restaurant was lovely with a decent selection at breakfast and the staff happy to make you eggs and coffee. We were especially impressed by how accommodating the staff were. We were able to book an airport transfer a very reasonable cost as well as rides into the city for about $5. On our checkout day we had a night bus. We were not only given late checkout till 8PM for not very much money but they also offered us a ride to the bus terminal. The service made this hotel stand out for us. I would highly recommend staying here if you’re in La Paz
Murtaza K — Google review
Atix Hotel promises a modern boutique experience in La Paz, but it falls short in execution. While the architecture and design are impressive, the reality of the stay is disappointing. Rooms show signs of poor maintenance, with inconsistent heating, weak hot water, and limited amenities for the price. Cleanliness is average, and noise from the surroundings often disrupts rest. Service is polite but slow and lacks the attention to detail expected in a hotel of this category. Dining is hit or miss—some dishes are well-prepared, but overall quality and consistency do not match the hotel’s image or rates. Atix has potential given its concept and location, but without significant improvements in service, facilities, and upkeep, the experience feels overpriced and underwhelming.

We spent almost 2 weeks here. Fantastic place, great service. Wonderful top notch art, everyone friendly, pool with beautiful views, delicious breakfast and wonderful food for dinner / room service as well. Our initial room got a bit hot in the afternoons x especially if we forgot to close the curtains. Otherwise all great - very walkable to san Miguel, parks and end of the green line of the peaceful and beautiful teleferico... there was nothing very kid specific but plenty of places close by to take our toddler.

Very nice upscale hotel. Rooftop pool is great when not taken over by children. Great Rooftop bar with fun drinks like "Butch Cassidy". Restaurant is okay with a limited menu. Rooms on upper levels have very enjoyable views; lower levels no views.

They have a variety of combos and sauces. Prices are fair. The fingers and wings are tasty, fresh and good portion. Fries are well cooked and their ColeSlaw is how it is supposed to be. The place is clean and they have outdoor sitting.

(Translated by Google) Horrid! It was like they'd boiled the chicken before frying it. The orange sauce didn't even have salt; it was just water, orange juice, and cornstarch. What a terrible product! (Original) Horribles, es como si hubieran hervido el pollo antes de freír, su salsa de naranja no tenía ni sal, era como agua jugo de naranja y maicena. Que pésimo producto
