Galapagos Up las Grietas

4.7
(1818)
If you're looking for an unforgettable adventure in the Galapagos, a visit to Las Grietas is a must! This stunning crevice formed by lava rock offers some of the clearest waters you'll ever encounter. While there isn't an abundance of marine life, the vibrant blue hues are mesmerizing. To reach this hidden gem, prepare for a scenic hike that takes about 15 minutes from where you catch an Aqua Taxi at Ayorta harbor—just $1 per person!
I had some free time on Santa Cruz so went to Las Grietas on my own. After a short water taxi ride for $1, we were dropped at the Punta Estrada Neighborhood and there was a 20-minute walk to the reception area, keep a sharp eye on the signs because the way is a little confusing! Then we have to pay $10 and wait for a guide to take us to the swimming place, ours was a 15-min wait, and we learnt some interesting facts along the way. The guide watches our stuff and waits while we swim for 40 minutes, but we can come back early or later if desired, which I did. A gorgeous and unique place to visit!
Eileen W — Google review
Unique place to go visit. Guide really didn't do anything but now you have to pay the $10 per person so extra hassle. What's a little tricky on the path there. Bring some insect repellent if you have the wait for your tour time at "Paradise". Bring your own life jacket otherwise they charge you $5 to rwnt one. Felt very touristy but wasn't too busy when we went. Not many fish to see saw maybe four or five. Still worth the time of the $10 given the nice rock formations.
Steven S — Google review
Well, it’s a scam. You have to wait for organized tour like myself 40min. than pay $10 per person for a guide who does absolutely nothing. You spent 5min. walking with the guide and than you are given 1h to swim. The guide instead of providing any sort of services is playing with its telephone. There are many more better places to see for free. ESPECIALY IN SAN CRISTOBAL This one should be open free of charge.
Monika — Google review
Ok if u bring snorkeling gears, come here by water taxi $1 then pay $10 mandatory guide… or join Bahia tour instead of from $30-40
G S — Google review
We arrived at about 12.00, it was relatively quiet , 5 in our group. Really enjoyed the whole experience, the water was cool and refreshing ( not cold) and shaded . Plenty and fish to see . We were in the upper of the 2 pools .
June C — Google review
A must visit. Just beautiful and lovely to swim in. One needs to order the entry pass before going. It's online and easy.
Keith A — Google review
Cool place to visit. Bring good shoes - no flip flops. You have to go with a guided tour, 10 Dollar per person. There are tours approximately every 45 min. You will see the gorge and you will have 45 min to go swimming there. You have also some nice views on the bay. On your way from the pier you pass playa Alemania, which is free to swim. Take a taxi boat from harbour Ayorta for 1 Dollar per person to go there, you do not need an organised tour! You should see this place.
Herwig R — Google review
This is in between rocks natural spring Rainwater and ocean water meets and creates this low salinity place with a couple of fishes in it you can get in and swim is roughly just a couple Strokes but it's a beautiful place to be I do recommend to go without a guy because when you go with a guy they will time you and won't let you stay too long if you go by yourself and pay up front the entrance you can stay as much as you like.

Swimming pool

Las Grietas is a stunning swimming hole located near Bahia Tortuga and Playa de los Alemanes on Santa Cruz Island in the Galapagos. Accessible by water taxi, this picturesque canyon with turquoise waters is a favorite spot for locals, drawing crowds especially during weekends and school holidays. While it may not be featured in signature Safaris due to high traffic, visitors can request to include Las Grietas in their itinerary.
Las Grietas is an amazing swimming hole with crystal clear waters. It's a series of three elongated, almost rectangular pools that cut through towering lava cliffs. I do regret not having an underwater camera for this particularadventure. You can see all the way to the bottom which gets to around 40 feet deep. 🙌
Marc C — Google review
Worth doing if you have the time. We got a ticket in advance from a tour agent near our hotel, for the same price of $10, this meant not having to wait when we got there. We arrived 0915 and it wasn’t too busy, but was getting very busy when we left. There are two swimming areas which the alternate depending on numbers of people. Water is cool, but refreshing. The clarity of the water depends on how much rain they have had recently. The walk is about 15-20 mins from water tax I drop off. You get hire a life jacket for $5, but if you are an ok swimmer you don’t really need one.
Robert F — Google review
We enjoyed swimming here after experiencing some murky and shallow water at Tortuga bay. The water is clear but there are not much fish. Also, we were lucky enough to have a smaller group then those thatcame before and after us. If we had a larger group then the experience would be more diminished.
Matthew R — Google review
Beautiful place to visit! I visited Las Grietas on the Bay Tour via Galapagos Blue Sky. We arrived in the morning and there we no other people than my tour group. Nice place to have a quick dive, Not a lot of fish to see during snorkeling, but I was able to capture some. I recommend to visit Las Grietas via the Bay Tour, because you can also see other beautiful places in the bay of Puerto Ayora
Mika S — Google review
Must visit if ur in Santa Cruz, recommend to do Bahia tour instead of water taxi 1$ + entrance $10.. bring snorkel else not really worth it
G S — Google review
Very unique swimming area that we had all to ourselves for the majority of the time. So peaceful. Could see some parrot fish were in there, but I wouldnt recommend renting snorkeling gear just for this. Just enjoy your time swimming and exploring. If you have other plans to use the gear then bring it. Don't need to book a tour in town for this. Just take a water taxi fromthe main pier over for $1 and then pay $10 per person for entry and the guide you get. You'll get 45 minutes to swim. Very good half day activity.
Chris D — Google review
We had a lovely snorkeling experience here! I've posted the photo of the tour times below as you'll need to sign up and pay for one to enter if you're not a local resident (in that case it's free entry anytime). The tour was $10 and there are both Spanish speaking and English speaking guides available. You get to swim for 45min in the canyon and it's gorgeous, with super clear conditions and crisp cool water temperatures. If you're careful you can cross the rocks on the far side and continue all the way to the end, where there are steps leading up to a lovely oceanside view too.
Anna B — Google review
It’s about 20 minutes walk from the starting point and you can only go with a guide. It’s $10/person and the experience was amazing. We walked by some endemic cactus trees and then we got up on the hill and the view was spectacular. Las Grietas was right there , amazing view from the top if you don’t want to take a swim. But you can also experience that and do some snorkeling there.

Supermarket
Proinsular Market is a bustling spot located at the far end of the docks in Puerto Ayora. It offers a wide range of products, including groceries and a variety of foods. The market also houses Cafeteria Proinsular on its third floor, where visitors can enjoy tasty sandwiches, Mexican cuisine, and baked goods while taking in stunning views of the marina.
What an amazing supermarket! Has absolutely everything you need. From sweets to cleaning materials. Good for snacks if like me your on holiday and want some stuff for your hotel room. I will be back next time I fly half way around the world !

If charging tourists for bottle deposit of $0.50 you need to explain how they can get their money back. Not just tell them to return the bottles, but to also that you should keep your purchase receipt. Very unhelpful staff yesterday evening. Very disappointed in your service. Other tourists: hope this message helps you.
Ben G — Google review
Great view of the port, boats, and the sea. Good place to have a cappuccino or a snack, also big store downstairs where you can get more supplies and better prices. Not the best food in the restaurant but not too overpriced and not the worst food either. Unfortunately, they sell lots of cheap plastic knick knacks from China that end up contributing to plastic pollution in Galapagos. I wish they would take a more ecological stance on that.
Marley P — Google review
Everything is definitely overpriced, and many of the refrigerated items had gone bad, be careful! Items that were before due date, but clearly left too long in the heat during transportation and fermented. Especially things like tofu and kombucha. It is nice there is a lot of variety though, and especially vegan options. For fruits and veggies, you’re much better going to the Mercado Municipal, 1/3 the prices and you’re giving directly to local sellers instead of this chain.
Andrew S — Google review
Ground floor is a supermarket and sencond floor they are running a cafeteria. I asked if I can drink a beer that I bought from the supermarket, and it was allowed. I could enjoy nice view with a beer.
Jungah K — Google review
Small supermarket with a cafe upstairs. The coffee here is good. I come here daily to sit on the balcony, drinking an Americana while enjoying the view. The staff here are really friendly and always help with my Spanish.
Kitty — Google review
Wide range of products for a store in Gálapagos. The cafe on the third floor had amazing views of the marina and you could watch the fisherman bring in their catch. It was interesting seeing the lobster, tuna, and other seafood come in and watch them load pallets of supples from a truck with a crane to the small boats. Food is good and can get both Ecuadorian and Western breakfasts. You need to walk through the grocery store and up to the third floor to get to the cafe.

One of the few large markets on the island. It has items many smaller markets dont carry. Come and check it out. BTW, there is a small restaurant upstairs with a full view of the ocean.

Saint Francis Park, located in Puerto Ayora, is a serene haven for nature enthusiasts in the heart of the Galapagos Islands. The park is dedicated to restoring the giant Galapagos tortoise population and features a breeding center where these creatures roam freely across a 46km^2 area. Visitors can witness the tortoises nesting and breeding in an environment that closely resembles their natural habitat.
Gorgeous place with an extremely noble purpose. The park works tirelessly to restore the giant Galapagos tortoise population and this breeding centre is a perfect example of the fine work they are doing. The tortoises are free to roam around a 46km^2 area and are free to breed and nest as they please. A beautiful place to see tortoises in the closest thing to the wild.

I enjoyed people watching at Saint Francis Park. A nurturing mother teaching her playful son how to balance himself on a skateboard. An older teenage boy assisting young eager girls to feel comfortable on a skateboard. A grown man using his skull to maneuver a soccer ball. The kiosk, El Coquito Viajero sells fresh Coconut Juice and warm Yuca bread, shaped like balls. Vhuntermassage LLC

Some great presentations on the future of the Galapagos urban design! Also great to see so much action at the park...skateboarders, a great play ground and some sharks at night!

The bus to Itabaca reportedly leaves from this location (west side). The first bus leaves at 7:00; although I confirmed at Terminal Terrestre that the first bus leaves there at 7:00 (ok, has to be ~7:10). I was worried about time, so I wound up taking a shared taxi for $10, but with the water taxi (and bus on the other side) being a pinch point, either will get you to the airport at about the same time.

During political campaign period (Jan - Feb 2023), the pickup trucks with extremely loud music going around the entire city every single day until very late, Saturday was until 3 am or 4 am. There is no respect to nature, to the animals or to us tourists who spend our money here. I m not sure why the voting is depend on who is louder. The island is supposed to be protected, not to be filled with emissions from the pick up trucks and crazy loud speakers. You should not vote for these people. Sleepless nights in Santa Cruz…

Galapagos Deli is a go-to spot in Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz island for those looking to grab some groceries and cook at their hostel. The deli offers a solid Wi-Fi connection, making it an ideal place for remote workers to chill and work while enjoying pizza, sandwiches, iced coffee, and ice cream. Visitors can also indulge in the deli's generous scoops of ice cream with the option to mix flavors like creamy chocolate with locally grown blackberry.
Very nice place. Food is tasty. Sevice is good. We ordered 3 dishes for 2. It was too much for us. Size of the portion is pretty big. We will come back.

The fish and chips is great however there is a mean waitress who lacks education and manners. She displays no courtesy or interpersonal skills when taking your order and serving you, which decreases the quality of experience at this restaurant. The place is hot as hell on a sunny day
José G — Google review
We stopped in here for lunch, selecting the ham and cheese pizza as well as the ham, mushroom and cheese pizzas. They were crisp and very delicious. Service was friendly and quick, they have an excellent pizza oven here, takes no time to cook a great pizza. The ginger lemonade had a great kick from the ginger. And what can be better than finishing off a great meal then with some gelato and sorbet. We enjoyed both the mint gelato and blackberry sorbet, both delicious and left our pallets refreshed.
Robert H — Google review
This place is great for to-go sandwiches and juices before going to the beach (such as Tortuga Bay). They take credit card without a surcharge. The ambiance is warm and casual, with some people working on their laptops. The ginger lemonade was super refreshing! Highly recommended.
Minji L — Google review
Great sandwiches and salads. Everything was fresh and tasted good. Very friendly service. Prices are good for Galapagos standards.
Robert J — Google review
We stopped in quick for a Hawaiian pizza while my wife was getting a tattoo done down the street. It was great and FAST! We waited maybe 5-6 minutes and grabbed a chocolate cookie on the way out. $11.50 total. Great service! There was no AC though, so it was quite warm inside with the ovens and minimal air movement.
Michael C — Google review
Solid spot for a meal or snack. Staff was super friendly and we didn’t wait long for our food.
Steph S — Google review
This is what I expect in a deli and bakery here on the island! They bake their breads fresh. If you arrive in the morning you can see them preparing the doughs for the day. It smells great inside. The flavors are delicious and exactly what I want in sandwiches. The additional hot sauce provided might be a bit strong on flavor but it's a good spicy touch. I'd return any time, especially at less than $10 a sandwich.

What a beautiful and charming cafe / restaurant! This was my go to for coffee in the morning. I wrapped up my time on the islands with their breakfast burger this morning which was delicious. Super friendly service and beautiful vibe watching people go by

We stopped in here for dinner and overall it was good. My wife got the poke bowl and I had the octopus. We also go the scallops on fire appetThe poke bowl was really y, but the octopus was very overcooked and chewy. The presentation for the dishes was amazing and the drinks were very good, but not good enough to save the meal.

The dishes come in generous portions. If you don’t eat much, you might consider sharing one with someone else. I found the price to be fair for the portion size. The dessert perhaps didn’t feel entirely homemade and seemed a little out of place compared to the rest of the menu. Other than that, the service was great, and the food was very tasty.

During our trip in Puerto Ayora, we had breakfast twice at this restaurant. The food was not only delicious but authentic. They have a very nice atmosphere, great coffee and of course, food. The service was very good too. The location is great, yet it still doesn’t feel like the usual overpriced spots due to their location. I highly recommend the Tigrillo Bowl or the Plantain Tortilla, we also had the Breakfast Pancakes and a Crepe🤤🤤It’s great they open early, perfect for when you have an early flight or tour! I recommend this place for a nice atmosphere and breakfast 💗

We had here a late breakfast after arriving by ferry from Isabela. The pancakes are great, French toast very good and the Omelet was very nice. Coffee could be better.

This quickly became my favorite morning spot on the island. I loved starting the day with their latte dulce de leche and flaky ham and cheese croissants. They also serve a wonderful selection of desserts that are as delicious as they are reasonably priced. The restaurant has a nice, cozy ambience that makes you want to linger, whether you’re stopping in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The staff are warm and welcoming, which makes the experience even more enjoyable, and its location just a short walk from the Darwin Center makes it an easy stop at any time of day. Also they play a good selection of music!

Wow was the food amazing! I wasn't expecting to find high quality dining like this on an island in the Galapagos. If you are into Asian cuisine then this a must try restaurant! The duck gyoza was served in a ramen broth with rendered foie gras and it was outstanding!!! The roll was phenomenal!!! Didn't miss this place!

La Garrapata is a popular restaurant located on the island of Puerto Ayora in the Galapagos. It offers a diverse menu featuring fresh local seafood, Argentinian dishes, pizza, desserts, and vegetarian options. The restaurant is known for its fusion of Ecuadorian and international cuisine, with specialties such as chicken curry, grilled seafood platter, and fish in coconut sauce.
Had the seafood grill, chicken curry and fish grill. All 3 of them were good. Maybe bit more chilly for the curry but was good overall experience. * the server did give me spicy salsa to satisfy my taste buds.

Excellent experience. Just too bad when you explicitly ask for something different than what's on the menu, they still serve you the dish unchanged and you have to send it back to have it replaced. Also the ají ecuatoriano is totally not spicy and looks more like a sweet tomato sauce.

Came here in October 2017 with my boyfriend and another couple. 3 of us in the group were able to eat mostly vegan here. My boyfriend and friend's husband loved that they had some special beer (i think it was black Sabia?) here. The rest of the group also loved the nachos appetizer here! The staff were super nice and there happened to be some musical entertainment the night we were there.

This place has a great dining area and they happily accommodated our party of 10, twice! We went for a lunch and a dinner during our stay on the island. A little pricey. I loved the shrimp in the creamy garlic sauce, but I would pass on the passion fruit torte, it was kind of bland.

Great atmosphere for dinner. Ate here 3 times over 2 weeks in Puerto Ayora, everything was always good. The live music adds a nice touch!

Not a lot of vegan options (but that is true at every restaurant on the island). I had the guacamole and bean appetizer, patacones, and the quinoa and veggies entree. The quinoa was OK, texture was a little heavy and the dish was bland (good with salt and house "hot" sauce added), but it came with half an avocado which was a nice surprise. Service was excellent. My omni partner enjoyed his ceviche. The outdoor seating was great for people watching!

Day 2

South side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the south side side of town. Start the day off with Tortuga Bay Beach, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Gus Angermeyer Pier and Ferry Terminal. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Tortuga Bay Beach is a stunning tropical paradise located southwest of Puerto Ayora in the Galapagos. The 2.5 km trail leading to the beach offers well-maintained paths with resting cabins along the way. Visitors are advised to bring water and swimwear to fully enjoy the two distinct beaches, Playa Brava and Playa Mansa.
Amazing place on Santa Cruz island; it is a must when you visit Galapagos. You have to walk about 45 minutes to arrive this beautiful place. Every step is worth it to enjoy the magic of this beach. There are two beaches, the angriest beach and the calm beach; the first one is ideal for surf and the second one is ideal to take a bath and do some kayak

Impressive natural beach, which gets pretty wild on the main ocean-facing part. The side-beach which is more suitable for swimming is not that impressive though. Towards the end of the "main" beach we got to see plenty sea iguanas. This made the 1 hour walk from the port definitely worth it. Overall, I would consider this a good option for a free activity on Santa Cruz.

We took a scenic 45-minute hike from where we were staying, and the path was smooth and easy to follow. The walk was well worth it, as it opened up to a stunning beach with soft white sand and turquoise water. The first stretch of beach is gorgeous to admire, but it has strong riptides so swimming isn’t recommended. If you continue down a bit farther, you’ll reach a second beach where it’s safe to swim and snorkel, and there’s even a small stand for kayak rentals. We rented snorkel gear for about $5 and saw wetsuit rentals ranging between $5–$10. The day we visited, the water had poor visibility, but it was still exciting to spot reef sharks gliding through the mangroves. With clearer conditions, this would be an incredible spot for snorkeling. Along the way, we spotted some sleepy sea lions stretched out on the sand, and a variety of other interesting birds. A blue-footed booby was even spotted. Even without perfect snorkeling conditions, the wildlife and scenery made this hike and beach visit unforgettable.

You walk far in the heat to the swimming area, and the little cove is so packed full of people. We tried to swim just outside the cove and other people too and the rangers would call us out and say we can’t swim there because the currents, we said we are fine and not going far but they said we aren’t allowed to swim anywhere but the little cove. It was very unpleasant and not worth the long walk in the heat for nowhere to swim. One ranger told us that if we went into the middle of the beach far from any rangers we could swim. So nothing was making sense and we just left. Around the corner is more place to swim but the water is brown and again so many people, but the water although not wavy was very dirty looking and no way you would be able to see anything snorkeling. But it was still a very beautiful beach.

Gorgeous beach! There are no amenities at out so bring what you need. You can get to it by taking a $10 per person water taxi from the malécon or by walking for 30 minutes down a well defined path. Beach closes at 6pm because of sunset so be prepared to leave by 4:30. The last water taxi leaves at 5 at the latest. There are a variety of birds and marine iguanas on the beach by the rocks. The other side of this beach has a smaller beach suitable for swimming. This beach is more for surfing.
Shannon C — Google review
One of the nicest beaches, you can get here by boat or walk to it, its about 3.5 km from the harbour. The biggest part is rough to swim, but continue and you will reach a quiet piece in a big bay where the water is calm and much warmer. Lots of trees to find some shade, watch of for the flies who sting.

October 25.2025 Probably the only land based beach you can walk to in Santa Cruz. Cost: Free Facilities: Very nice washrooms at the conservation center (no clean water to buy), otherwise, the beach area has no facilities of any kind. Time from main harbor: 40mins-1 hr You sign in at the conservation center (name, email, country of origin, ID not required). They will let you know where you can swim and where you cannot swim. Then you walk down a beautiful cobble stone walkway all the way to the beach, there are a few small hills, and rest stops and shady areas are plenty. The turtle nesting areas are off limits, though you may see some patches they use from the border. *WARNING* There is absolutely no shade at the beach (maybe a few tiny spots), so you will be in direct sunlight the entire time. Sun stroke is no joke, protect yourself and bring lots of sun protection and water. Remember, it is about 1.5 hrs rountrip walk, so factor that in. The current advisory was red today (not safe to swim). Few surfers around though, can't comment on the reefs and banks though.

Bay
Tortuga Bay, located on Isla Santa Cruz, is a picturesque bay known for its white sand beach and clear aquamarine waters. The 1.5-mile paved walkway from Puerto Ayora leads to this stunning beach, where visitors can often spot marine iguanas and other wildlife. This secluded paradise has been recognized as one of the world's best beaches and offers opportunities for kayaking and observing diverse marine life such as sharks and turtles.
Beautiful beaches. First beach (good for surfing) and a natural pool on the end. Further is the more quiet beach - great for swimming and chilling on the beach, shady from the mangrove trees. You can also rent a kayak - water was murky to snorkel but there are baby sharks, rays, turtles in the bay.
Mareike L — Google review
It was a bit of a walk, most of it out in the sun. The first beach you get to is really beautiful but you can't swim here. The second one is Torturga bay. We expected a lot of wildlife and a beautiful beach. Unfortunately the sea wasn't to clear and we only saw one sea lion laying on the beach. Didn't think it was really worth the walk... The view from the platform at the start was the best part

I had limited time on Santa Cruz, so I only made it to Playa Brava—and it is spectacular! If you're walking, be prepared and have plenty of water with you. It's a narrow, paved path bordered by thick vegetation and can become quite stuffy, especially mid-day.

Heavenly beach. Expect quite a bit of a walk to get there but worth it. You are not supposed to go in the water as they say it’s pretty dangerous. The swimming area that is further is more kid friendly but less nice for sure. We saw Marin iguanas and a few fish when snorkeling. One of the best beach in the area.

Beautiful white soft sandy beaches. Sea lions, sea iguanas, lots of birds. Amazing water. Absolutely the best beach I've been to in a long time. Requires a guide to check you kn but that is very easy. There are two sides of the bay. One is very calm waters and the other side a bit bigger waves. There is also kayaks available for rent for $20. The walk to the beach is about 3/4 of a mile. Also, lots of sunscreen is important.
Jessica K — Google review
It’s a really long walk to the swimmable beach, but it’s still the prettiest beach that’s walkable from Puerto Ayora so expect it to get crowded Tip 1: go really early like start walking before 7am to avoid the swarms of crowds. We had the beach all to ourselves at 745am but when we left at 9am there were hundreds of people walking in Tip 2: no facilities so best visit restroom and bring umbrella, nibbles and plenty of water

Nature & Wildlife Areas
The Charles Darwin Research Station, operated by the Fundacion Charles Darwin, is a significant biological research facility located just east of Puerto Ayora on the southern coast of Santa Cruz. It houses an extensive collection of preserved specimens of Galápagos plant life and serves as a vital center for learning about the unique wildlife inhabiting the Galapagos Islands.
Our guide took us on a private tour of the research center, and my husband and I learned so much about the history and animals of these beautiful islands. Our guide taught us about the various research projects at the center, how the tortoises are cared for and taught to hunt, and the 100% success rate once they are released back into the wild! She taught us about Lonesome George and we even got to see him in his glory! It was such a special place to learn more about the conservation on the islands.
Cheyenne L — Google review
Worth a visit if you are already in Puerto Ayora, but I wouldn’t make a special visit for this center. If you do come here, getting a guide is worthwhile, IMO. You will get more out of the visit. Plan to spend 1-2 hours here, no more. I’m a bit surprised by the whining in other reviews about the $10 admission fee and the cost of a guide, considering the money supports the giant tortoise breeding and conservation program. Really folks?
Kent K — Google review
So so museum, got famous because carry on Darwin’s name. Going to the area is free & if you want a guide and short special way not thru the brick roads to see the breeding turtle and Galapagos- saddleback turtle THEN you need to pay $10…. Tips: if u don’t want to pay, go to the main building pass the cafe and if no one guarding it.. turn left then u will see the turtles..
G S — Google review
The guides are really passionate about what they know and they are so generous in sharing! I got to differentiate between species of land tortoises today. It's cool how there are dome shaped and saddleback ones! And they are all evolutionary different! Also got to know a haunting piece of history. Seamen kept hundreds on tortoises upside down on boats for up to a year for fresh meat. 🥲🥲🥲🥲
Jingmei L — Google review
It’s worth noting that while the Charles Darwin Research Center is free to enter, if you’d like to see the giant tortoises up close, there is a $10 fee per person and you must go with a guide. Fortunately, guides are easy to find as you begin the walk up, with several local operators offering their services. The guided visit is well worth it—we learned a great deal about the different tortoise species found on the various islands, how their unique shells and sizes have adapted to their environments, and the ongoing conservation projects to restore their populations. The Center also provides insight into the challenges of invasive species, habitat loss, and the careful breeding programs that help ensure these peaceful, long-living creatures will thrive for generations to come. One of the most memorable parts of the visit is seeing Lonesome George, the most famous tortoise in the Galápagos. For decades, George was the last known individual of his subspecies from Pinta Island and became a worldwide symbol of conservation. Although he passed away in 2012, his remains are preserved and displayed at the Center, offering a powerful reminder of the fragility of island ecosystems and the importance of protecting them. Beyond the tortoise enclosures, the Center’s surrounding beaches are fascinating in their own right. These coastal areas serve as important breeding grounds for marine iguanas, and depending on the season, you can spot them basking on the rocks or nesting in the sand. The beaches also attract a variety of seabirds, crabs, and lizards, making the walk itself a chance to encounter Galápagos wildlife up close. It’s both an educational and memorable stop, blending conservation with natural beauty.

The Charles Darwin Research Station was founded in 1959 in partnership with UNESCO, and is open to the public. It’s dedicated to protecting and breeding Galapagos giant tortoises. The Station also conducts biological research to understand and protect the flora and fauna of Galapagos. We spotted groups of lizards sunning themselves on the grounds and rocks around the grounds. The Galapagos research center is free to visit. There is a $10 per person fee to accompany a nature guide and explore the grounds where the giant tortoises are hatched and live. One of the center’s goals is to breed and release tortoises back to the wild when they’re about 5 years old. Since the 1960’s, they’ve released more than 2,000 healthy tortoises on the Galapagos Island. The tortoise shells are painted with numbers. Hatchlings and young tortoises of different ages live in separate areas at the center. Their Natural History Interpretive Center features skeletons of a whale and dwarf sperm whale. Exhibits highlight achievements and challenges of their marine animal and tortoise research. There’s a sculpture and moving tribute to Lonesome George. He was the world’s last Pinta Giant tortoise when he died in 2012. We found a nice selection of Darwin Center t-shirts, books and souvenirs in their gift shop. All purchases support their foundation. There’s an outdoor cafe nearby to purchase cold drinks and light snacks. Look for sculptures of Darwin around the center for popular photo spots.

Having been to almost 100 countries + Antarctica, I am very selective when visiting a place with limited time. As other travels have said, the ground and the museum are free, but if you come all the way to the Galapagos, you have to see the giant tortoises and the preserved remains of Longsome George (Pinta Island giant tortoise). To gain access to see these tortoises (babies and adults), you will find a guide gathering people inside the museum for a guided tour ($10 cash only). I was hesitant about paying at first, but it was totally worth it after having come all the way to Puerto Ayora.
Cindy W — Google review
Found the tour of the facilities to be brilliant. Our guide was very informative. We did a tour in English and Spanish and it was helpful to hear the spanish too as we are learning. We were able to see the tortoises at all stages, from babies up till fully grown adults. You have to pay for a guided tour to see the facilities in full. There is a part of the facilities with free exhibition that you can do on your own. But I would recommend paying for the tour. It only cost us 10 USD per person and was an hour and 15mins long. We learnt about other animals and habitats on the island too.

Santa Cruz Brewery is located just east of Puerto Ayora on the southern coast, near the Charles Darwin Research Station. The island is known for its central location and high population, with most residents living in Puerto Ayora. This town serves as the hub for conservation efforts and is home to numerous tour brokers, hotels, and restaurants.
Sat up on the upper level, great vibes plenty of other people around. It was steamy but not much to be done about that. Fish and chips were great, loved the fresh mango sauce. Limited brew selection tonight only 5 beers however super tasty. Would be a cracker view of a day time. The staff super attentive.

They open later on Mondays. The beer is really nice. They had a hazy IPA that was so delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed with a great view of the water and the bustling street. I ordered the fish and chips, and it was huge. The chips were too hard and salty but the fish was delicious. It seemed breaded like a hash brown.

I visited this place yesterday and had a bad experience due to other customers smoking. The beer was great though so I wanted to give it another chance..I'm glad I did. The beer is made right here in Galapagos. I especially like the red Irish ale. The food is good as well. Yesterday I had the chicken fajitas and today I had the steak sandwich. Both were pretty good. No smokers today made the experience so much better. The views are great from the terrace and the balcony. Unfortunately they are also the smoking sections. Smoking is still common here so there isn't much you can do about it. Probably the best beer on the islands are made and served here. Give it a try. The staff are great and the owner/manager is a wonderful person who really takes feedback seriously. I loved my smokeless second visit. This became my favorite restopub on the island. Award winning beers and yummy food.

If you're looking for a delightful experience in the Galapagos, a stroll along the Muelle de Los Pescadores, or the local fishing pier in Puerto Ayora, is an absolute must. This charming spot offers breathtaking views and an abundance of wildlife that will leave you mesmerized. As you walk down this quieter pier, you'll encounter vibrant Sally lightfoot crabs scuttling about and adorable baby marine iguanas basking in the sun.
Stayed at La Peregrina Galapagos B&B and it is so convenient to hang around this fishing pier to watch fishermen clean their catches. You can closely observe birds and sea lions!

Went there mid morning and saw the fishermen cleaning their fish from early morning fishing trip. We bought Red Scorpion fish, about a pound for a little over $4! I pan fried it with light seasoning and it was delicious!! Don’t let the look of the fish keep you from trying it. It has a mild taste and flaky texture, very similar to grouper and sea bass…not fishy at all!! They also have freshly caught spiny lobsters!!

This is an incredible place to visit to see a variety of wildlife up close. The fishermen arrive with their catches and add they fillet and prepare them, they throw the waste to the wildlife that wait patiently. You can see seals, pelicans, herons, sea iguanas and the craziest thing are the large Frigate birds that repeatedly circle the market, waiting for the perfect chance to swoop in and steal from the other birds. I went to Frigate Hill on San Cristobal and was disappointed not to see any Frigate birds there, but this place more than made up for it. I'd recommend a visit to anyone. The fishermen even let children throw the waste scraps to the birds. Great close up photo opportunities await you here, as you can see from the photos that I'll upload.

Only one fresh market in the island. There will be one sea lion who is always here and wait for free fish. It quite a bit lazy to catching fishes by itself. You can find load of lobsters to buy but if your accommodation does not have kitchen appliances, it is better to go to restaurant which seafoods are also fresh. Good to visit this place.

Gus Angermeyer Pier and Ferry Terminal, also known as Muelle, is the central dock and transportation hub in Puerto Ayora. It's conveniently located within a 10-15 minute walk from most accommodations and serves as the arrival and departure point for airport buses and ferry boats to other islands. Despite the bustling activity, it's common to find sea lions and other wildlife leisurely coexisting with visitors. The area has potential to be a great skate park, attracting both locals and tourists.
Stop and take the time to watch. Lots of sea lions snoozing and looking for food. I saw Manta Rays swim by, baby sharks and iguanas swimming.

This wonderful pier was a mainstay in my recent visit to the Galapagos Islands. My buddy & I ventured out one day for a lunch 'on the waterfront' and the tax driver brought us here, told us to take a water taxi and experience some of the restaurants across the way. What a great idea that was! Warning, many of the restaurants don't open until dinner, so do your research first. Coming and going from this point became a daily action for us, and it is a clean and friendly place. You'll see sea lions enjoying the temps by napping wherever they please, lol. Water taxi drivers are friendly, but most don't speak English, so if you don't speak Spanish, make it easy on them and ask someone what you should tell them. It's a beautiful spot to just enjoy the area.

This place has potential to be an amazing skate park for the locals and tourists. Luckily I was able to meet up with a few locals who helped me pull out some of the ramps and I was able to try to skate a bit. Make this a better skate park! This is a very popular area and is one of the primary hubs of travel between the islands. Even with that much foot traffic and so many people passing through on a non stop basis, there is still a large number of sea lions and other wild life that like to relax here. What I found to be truly amazing was they acted like we were not even there. I watched one laying out on a pier bench and taking up the entire thing, and take a nap. Everyone walking around and standing feet from it, and they did no care on bit. They were living their best life!

One of the best experiences in a cafe in all of the Galapagos. The food and drinks (hot and cold) were delicious did not take long. The space is airy, friendly and smells amazing. Great place for breakfast, coffee or dinner.

Average food at vastly inflated prices Puzzled by all the positive reviews. For starters we ordered fried calamari … the bottom 2/3 of the bowl were filled with fatty fried potatoes, see photos. Hummus dish was good, but in no way justified the $19 pricetag, chicharrón de pescado was not well flavoured and very average. Unfortunately, the quality of the food is a million miles away from the exorbitant prices. We left with the taste of fatty fried potatoes in our mouth. Needless to say, we won’t come again .

Hands down our favorite restaurant in the Galapagos! My boyfriend and I had an absolutely superb dinner here. It is the total package: cute restaurant, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and delicious food! It was an interesting fusion of Italian and Peruvian, but everything was fantastic. We had the vegan tiradito, osso buco, Peruvian chicken sandwich, and choco passion brownie. Again, we loved everything, but we literally could not stop talking about the vegan tiradito during the entire rest of our trip

Really excellent fusion restaurant! They are a mix of Italian and South American cuisine. The service is amazing. My server, Mikayla was awesome. I ordered the fried fish. It was the brujo in a vodka chimichurri sauce with a Juliette plantain, potato cake on the side. They give you complimentary Peruvian corn as an appetizer

Il Giardino is a popular Italian trattoria that serves up dishes ranging from steaks to pasta. Known for its decadent desserts and delicious coffee, it is a great option if you want something more international than the standard Puerto Ayora restaurant fare. The rustic décor gives the restaurant a close-to-home feel, and they are especially well known for their desserts.
Our group had a very nice lunch here. The food was all delicious, our drinks were very tasty, and the service was wonderful. It was the perfect stop after our morning adventures and the atmosphere and people/animal watching was very lovely.

I came in for a late lunch after a long travel day. I really wanted fried fish, but they did not have any whole fish to offer. The service is nice and tentative. I ended up getting grilled chicken. The portion was huge. It had great flavor with patacones as a side.

Lunch special you cannot beat! Raw ahi tuna rolled with soy sauce drizzle, grilled tuna (don't get the hamburger), salad/fries/larger salad/or fried plantains, and fresh squeezed fruit of the day juice for $12usd!! Fun decoration and layout, but I wouldn't sit in the "boat table"
Kate T — Google review
The service and atmosphere were pleasant, but the quality of the food was disappointing. I ordered sushi and was served rice with an unpleasant texture and ginger that appeared spoiled
Olga P — Google review
The food here is amazing. I enjoyed the fish (red tuna) so much that I didn’t want to finish it. It’s not cheap but it’s worth it considering the quality of the food. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food came pretty quickly. Definitely recommended!

We came here on our last night on the island and the meal did not disappoint. If you are looking for high quality food for a decent price this is the place. Alexis was our waiter and he was very kind, helpful and patient with us when we couldn’t decide what to order. In the end we ended up getting the seafood platter and Philadelphia special sushi roll which was absolutely amazing, very fresh and high quality. This platter can definitely feed two people. Everything from the music of this restaurant to the food to the service was astounding. Definitely a must visit.

Very nice place to have a tasty dinner. You get a variety of food from fish, to meat and vegetarian. The naturel juices are great. There is also always lovely music, either a DJ or live. Recommendation!

La Regata is a popular tour that departs from Puerto Ayora pier on a small boat called Lancha. The tour includes snorkeling at Playa La Fe and two stops for snorkeling around Pinzon Island. Visitors praise the friendly staff and enjoy the happy hour with great drink prices. The specialty dish, Pez la Bruja, is highly recommended as it's unique to the region.
We stopped here for sushi, and it was very good! I will say the seating and decor is very dated, but they played really good music. They have tons of tables (“inside” and out of the restaurant), and they have a menu selection of sushi and poke bowls. We found the sushi to be on the pricier side (about $18-$20 a roll), but it was very good. Do not come here if you’re in a rush for time, service took a super long time, even with simple drinks (piña coladas). We only ordered two sushi rolls and two beverages and it took us over an hour to receive our food, and about 40-45 minutes for the drinks. Service was fine, but the time was super long for food/drinks. The bathrooms were not in the best shape (very much in need of flushes, and general cleaning), but the restaurant itself was yummy with the options of fresh sushi. I would recommend coming here if you want a good sushi roll!

Had some beers and ordered Chicken Fajitas. Thankfully it was cooked properly on a hot skillet so had the nice flavour. Sadly the wraps were small and ripped so it was a bit messy to eat but overall really nice. $18 for the meal and $4.50 for the beer. I’d return.

Loved the Scorpion Fish (Brucha), Sushi and Octopus was great, seafood soup was good. Service was very nice but they mixed up our order, replacement was done but in the end I was charged for the wrong dish. Not a big deal but there is a place for improvement there.
Michał S — Google review
I ordered the vegan poke bowl, primarily because I saw tofu as the first ingredient being in the dish so when the bowl came without tofu I was super confused. It was literally the main protein. I asked the staff and he went to “talk” to the chef. Then I see him come back, serving other people as if I never brought anything up. I had to prompt him again to come to me and asked him if there were any updates and he said that right now tofu isn’t in season and the chef replaced it with broccoli. 1) if there wasn’t tofu, why wouldn’t you specify that prior to me ordering the dish and let me know. 2) then you should have provided replacement options and asked me which one I wanted. Broccoli in my opinion is not a substitute at all for tofu. 3) there was no quinoa either. 4) there was no bell pepper but in my partners dish, there was. What’s the point of putting ingredients below the dish if you aren’t going to follow through with it because you are putting certain expectations in our head of what the dish will have?? No compensation, no acknowledgement of any wrong doing. I flagged his other colleague and explained the situation and again, no accountability. Save your money and go to other places on the island that respect their menu. Literally the first time I’ve experienced such a lack of common sense and care.

We’ve been here several times. Had Combo Ceviche and it was good. Seafood salad was excellent. Went back for fried Scorpion Fish and what a disappointment that was! Chef, please stop making fish nuggets out of a beautiful dish!!

Nice place close to the docks. Tasty Cappuccino, good breakfast menus. WiFi available.

Food: It really varies based on the dish. The sushi was bad. The rice was not made well, probably something in the sticky rice was done poorly. The seafood rice was too salty, but the actual seafood component was tasty. The fajitas were fantastic. Service: Good service. The food took a while, but that is pretty much every restaurant in the Galápagos. Atmosphere: We chose to sit outside. Because we had a group of five, the best table was right next to the road. It is a calm road though. Sometimes the server would go on the road to go on the other side of the table. 🤣 Very fun Side note: We ate at another location in San Cristóbal and the Scorpion fish was amazing.

The place we ate was called TJ's. Very nice place. Great atmosphere food selection is great, includes lots of dishes not only sea food and meat but eggplant parmesan and pastas. Service is exceptional and food 👌. Just make sure you go there really hungry. Seafood platter is for sharing one person wouldn't be able to eat such big portion.

We loved our stay! :) The staff was super helpful before and during our trip. Location wise amazing directly at the water front and in the quiet part of the island. "Dowtown" can be reached by 10 a minute walk.

Very nice Hotel, with and amazing restaurant. The design is a little quirky and each room has a lot of character - the ocean view rooms in particular look spectacular , we stayed in one with a little balcony overlooking the courtyard. The breakfast is basic but good. The coffee here is also very good, at the time of our visit they were using 1835 coffee. (1835 is just up the road and do great coffee) The staff are very good and we had no problem communicating even though we spoke no spanish.

We stayed here June 2019 and would highly recommend it. Room was comfortable. Setting of hotel is fabulous. Restaurant was exceptional. Staff was accommodating, friendly and welcoming. Google maps still shows the old name of Red Mangrove but hopefully they will update it to Galapagos Habitat soon. Either way it’s 5 stars.

Even though their written policy says 90 days, they first agreed to return my money but said they needed 30 days. The after 30 days they said they were wiring the money. It never came. Since then they have stopped taking calls or emails. They literally are stealing my money. If I could give a negative rating I would

Situated near the main dock in Puerto Ayora, it provides easy access for travelers arriving by bus or ferry. With an upscale menu including grilled octopus and pancakes, this restaurant offers a high-end dining experience amidst beautiful surroundings.
Really delicious food, both for vegetarians and meat lovers. Best Italian food I ate in south America ! If you're not on a budget- it's the right place for you! Very close to Darwin's research center.

I was a bit skeptical ordering from here (although the menu lists gluten free) due to the lack of reviews regarding gluten free. I get very sick from cross contamination but the server ensured they used separate and clean kitchen equipment, I ordered the salmon and shrimp entree that came with mashed potatoes and veggies and it was delicious! Very fresh and I did not get sick. Highly recommend!

Not going to complain. Stopped here for happy hour and an appetizer it was excellent. I had the mojito x 2🤪 along with the grilled octopus. It was perfect😊👍 Update February 4, 2024 I returned the following day, mostly because it was Sunday, many restaurants were closed and didn’t find any with happy hour. I ordered the mixed ceviche which was outstanding. The kitchen is open and very clean and professional. It also boasts a skilled very pretty chef 😍

Almar, located within the Red Mangrove Aventura Lodge and part of the Galapagos Habitat Eco Luxury Hotel, offers a delightful dining experience with a focus on fresh seafood and meats prepared with an Argentinean and Galapagos-Ecuadorian flair. The restaurant's extensive menu features specialties like ceviche with marinated fish, shrimp, and octopus as well as a daily catch risotto.
Our travel agent set up a romantic dinner for the last night of our honeymoon! The service was absolutely amazing. They were attentive, gave us free sangria, and made our last night so special. The food was delicious, and they even had blankets for us when the sea breeze rolled in! The coconut ice cream with fried pineapples was one of the best desserts I've ever had. I highly recommend if you want an intimate dinner with a beautiful view!

This was the first place we ate at when we arrived on the island, and it was so good we ended up returning. The restaurant has an upscale island vibe. Stylish yet relaxed, with tables right on the water where we could watch sea lions lounging and herons gliding gracefully past. Bright red crabs scuttled across the rocks, and at one point a marine iguana casually walked right past us on the restaurant floor, making the experience feel uniquely Galápagos. The food was outstanding, beautifully presented and full of fresh flavor, and the atmosphere made it feel like a special occasion. We also loved their happy hour, where you can enjoy two drinks for just $12, the perfect way to unwind by the ocean.

This was a solid experience. The food was great along with the atmosphere. The portions are very healthy so you won't leave hungry. It is right on the water so use bug spray. If you forget, the restaurant has some available as well. The service was good and despite the language barrier they did an excellent job. I would definitely come back if I'm back in Puerto Ayora.

So far, Almar was my favourite dining experience in Ecuador. I went in after a recommendation from my guide to get the crayfish. Service was impeccable, the view amazing and I was even treated to a couple of sea lions joining me for lunch. The dish was sensational and I cleaned the plate.

Really beautiful restaurant to have a meal. The back patio has such amazing views. I really wanted to try the lobster before leaving the Galápagos. We had an amazing experience at Almar Restaurant in the Galápagos! The cocktails were absolutely delicious some of the best we’ve had anywhere, and definitely the best in town. Each drink was beautifully presented and full of unique flavors. The food was equally impressive, fresh and perfectly prepared. Everything we tried was bursting with taste, from the starters to the main dishes. The setting is gorgeous, right by the water with stunning ocean views, both day and night. The atmosphere is relaxed yet elegant, making it perfect for a special dinner or just drinks with a view. Highly recommend Almar if you’re visiting the Galápagos, it’s a fantastic spot for amazing food, great drinks, and beautiful views!

Shark Bay Dive Center is a top choice for diving in Santa Cruz Island, offering an exceptional experience at Gordon Rocks, known for its Hammerhead Shark sightings. The center provides comfortable boats and a professional yet laid-back crew. Visitors can enjoy dives at Seymour and Mosquera sites with clear instructions, high-quality gear, and satisfying snacks and lunches.
This place is INCREDIBLE!! I did two diving days with Jimbo, Omar, Justin and Anthony and their service and experience was world class!! From getting your equipment the day before, to the diligent dive briefings, how they kit you up (literally putting the fins on your feet for you) and the dives themselves, it's the best dive centre I've ever been to. Jimbo leads with a big smile and lots of jokes always aiming to make the each individuals experience as good as he can. Omar loves a classic rock banger to get people in the mood and the ACDC thunderstruck x hammerhead chant was an unforgettable moment. They let us jump in with Dolphins, served great food and even threw in a bonus land tour when they needed to refuel. BOOK NOW!!

I had a very good experience with the team - from shop staff helping with suiting prep pre dive, to the actual dive crew out at sea (captain, chef, dive guides), everything was great. Dive crew were professional and gave clear instructions all the time, dive guides were awesome at spotting marine animals and taking good care of us underwater. I got to check off my bucket list dive site at Gordon Rocks and saw many hammerhead sharks. My dive guide was Omar and he is fantastic. Good vibes from everyone, definitely my go to for any galapagos dive on santa cruz 🤙🤙

I dove with shark bay 3 days in a row including Gordon rocks, they were always extremely organised and professional while making it fun. They gave a very thorough briefing, made sure everyone was taken care of, provided extra layers for the cold when asked, fostered a friendly atmosphere, put music on while we were getting ready which honestly really helps getting amped up for the cold water! The food was very good. Special shoutout to Omar who is one of the best dive masters I’ve had, made us feel very safe and found the right balance between ringing the bell to show us the animals while not chasing them away - in Seymour he made us sit at the bottom quietly so the hammerheads would come close, it was an amazing experience. Thank you Shark Bay !!!

I did a total 4 dive days (8 dives with shark bay) and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them at all! They are diligent with equipment, safety and briefings, and the entire full of kind, hardworking and fun people. Super communicative, create a nice atmosphere between all divers on board, provide gloves and hoods to keep you warm (which other schools might not and water does get cold), great guides.. the list goes on. We dived with other dive centres in other islands and Shark Bay definitely stood out. I’d like to thank the entire team!

Last note: definitely book the Sea Lion Yacht. The animal encounters are like none other!

We stayed here for a few days. On our trip to the Galapagos and it was excellent. The staff were all amazing, the drinks were excellent and the room was perfect. We had a beautiful view and it was the perfect way to end our trip. The only downside was we opted for a day excursion to North Seymour on their yacht and it was not really worth the money. They marketed the experience very well but it didn't really live up to the expectations that their marketing promises and especially at the price point. The guides and yacht crew were all excellent but it was just a very run of the mill experience. We would have preferred to stay on property and would likely have not booked that excursion had we known what it was. If we are back in the Galapagos we would definitely stay here again.

The hotel was beautiful, with spotless rooms and a very friendly staff. Just note that it’s not an adults-only hotel, and for smokers, the only designated area was far from the rooms and not safely accessible. To reach the town, you’ll need to walk about 7-10 minutes to the pier and take a quick 3-minute boat ride provided by the hotel- not a big deal, but useful to know in advance.

We stayed at Finch Bay Galápagos Hotel for 4 nights and overall had a wonderful experience. The location by the water is beautiful and peaceful, surrounded by nature, a great place to relax after exploring the islands. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The food at the restaurant was good, and the staff were always friendly and attentive. On the day of our check-in, there was a bit of confusion about the exact meeting point for the Finch Bay boat, which made our arrival a bit stressful. However, when we shared our feedback with the manager, they were very professional, understanding, and kind, and handled everything really well. One thing to note is that the beach in front of the hotel is not private, so it can get a bit crowded at times, especially during the day when locals and other visitors come by. Other than that, everything about our stay was smooth and enjoyable.
Nahid S — Google review
We spent 5 nights in the hotel in October 25 and overall really loved it. First of all the negative: We had a standard room which was pretty small more like a motel room. The bathroom was fine but it had a strange set up with the cupboard storage in there. The positives: The staff were fabulous, friendly and willing to go out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as it was. The location is great, just far enough away from the local town/port to feel secluded, but close enough that you can go in to visit in just a few minutes. The vibe is chilled, comfortable, and relaxed. The a la carte menu has plenty of choice, always loads of seafood, and high quality. The pool, lounge area, and bar - all stylish, comfortable, and welcoming. The yacht trips were well organised and allowed us to visit some great locations with knowledgable quides. Best to know that for most day trips on the yacht there's a 45 coach minute trip to and from the mooring. Thoroughly recommend this hotel but get a premium/larger room if possible.

Booked this hotel for some R&R after a cruise around the islands. Location is great, a short complimentary water transfer from the main dock and secluded. Rooms excellent, beautiful pool, delicious food, and hotel is very serene and relaxing. Alfonso, the manager, was very friendly and welcoming, explaining the facilities and excursions that could be organised to enhance our stay. He went out of his way to assist us and has an excellent team who were all very attentive and friendly. Would thoroughly recommend.

Food could be better. But so could the food in the restaurants in the entire island. The beach in front is only nice when tide is high. Location is great except you need a water taxi to go into town and no walking alternative.

Lemon & Coffee is a popular spot with great service and delicious food. The attentive staff ensures that your drinks and meals are always topped up, while the fried shrimp and pasta carbonara are particularly divine. It's also a great place to catch a game or enjoy happy hour with affordable drinks. Although it may be pricier than other local spots, the quality of both the food and drinks is definitely worth it.
Limon & Café is a hidden gem just off the main road in Puerto Ayora, offering exceptional grilled dishes at budget-friendly prices. The restaurant provides an English menu, making it accessible to all visitors. Their fruit smoothies are pure and refreshing, while the grilled chicken is beautifully seasoned—sweet, aromatic, and full of flavor. If you're looking for an affordable and authentic Santa Cruz meal without venturing too far, this cozy corner spot is the perfect choice!

Price was a bit much for what you get. The spaghetti was a little undercooked and it was hard to find the bacon while it was carbonara. The ambiance is nice it feels kind of like a pub

This is my favorite place in Santa Cruz, not just because of the Tres Cuartos dish that was awesome, but Oscar, Vladimir and Carlos provided great service and also great company! Definitely recommend! Oh, and happy hour is awesome here!

It's a gem. Super-tasty food, excellent service. Craft beer. Highly recommended :) Oh, and large meals. Try Chuzo Mar Y Tierra. Grilled tuna is also great.

This is a great spot to watch a game on their TV, have drinks with friends, or just enjoy the view from their second floor. Drinks are very cheap and pretty good during happy hour. You'll need to walk up a short flight of stairs to reach them. Didn't eat so I can't speak to the food, but I'd be willing to return! They play incredibly loud music on Saturday nights so be warned if you live nearby.

Good food mb a tad expensive but service was fast drinks are great, huge selection of beers on tap multiple TV's showing sports, live music on some nights. I had the grilled chicken w passion fruit sauce with fries n veggies and it was delicious. I came back a couple of times to have a few beers and hang with friends.

Went for cocktails after dinner. Unfortunately they made every cocktail with no alcohol or something very different from what it should be. Certainly not gin in the gin and tonic and when we complained about the margarita, they gave a shot of tequila without even questioning it. Best avoid, unless you like over priced virgin cocktails 🍸

Good portions of food. Service was fast and friendly. Drinks are there thing just off main strip. 10e grilled pollo with choice of sides , I got chips and salad the chips were gorgeous home made.

La Cevicheria by Isla Grill is a charming eatery that boasts an inviting open-front dining area, perfect for soaking in the local atmosphere. Renowned for its fresh ceviche, this restaurant offers a delightful menu featuring local specialties like langostino encocado—lobster simmered in coconut milk—and arroz marinero, a seafood rice dish. Guests rave about their breakfast options too; the Peruvian ceviche with canchalagua, shrimp, and octopus is particularly noteworthy.
The food is just perfect! I ordered a ceviche, and you can ask the way you want! My husband asked shrimps with mashed plátano! It was perfect! So perfect I forgot to take pictures before eating!

We came here the first time for a breakfast ceviche as it was the only place close by our hotel that was open just after 9am that serves fish. We ordered a Peruvian ceviche with canchalagua, shrimps, and octopus, which was delicious (ask for extra hot sauce if you like it spicy). The shrimps were particularly fresh that day and I had taken a liking to canchalagua after trying it for the first time on this island. The Ecuadorian ceviche with shrimps and tuna was a little bland. The shrimps were sweet, firm, and meaty but the tuna chunks were tough and dry, perhaps left in the marinade too long. They didn’t have sugar cane that day but the pint of naranjilla fresh juice was very refreshing and went really well with the ceviches. We later took away a portion of shrimps with coconut and ginger sauce (comes with sweet mashed plantains and white rice) and a Arroz Marinero seafood rice for a day at Tortuga Bay. Both options were delicious. They charge around 50 cents for each takeaway box.

Delicious ceviche at reasonable prices. I went for dinner with friends and we tried a few different types of ceviche and one friend had the fish and chips. 2 of my friends tried the ceviche with peanut sauce and avocado and both really liked it. I had the Peruvian pescado ceviche which was also great. Very fresh. Waitress was lovely and patient with us as we took a while to order and also needed to split our bill.

We came here for our last dinner with high expectations and we were a little disappointed. We ordered mixed ceviche and shrimp encocado. Fish was fresh but ceviche was a little tasteless. Shrimp encocado was too sweet and not coconuty enough. They serve it with sweet potatoes. For the price (which was high) we would expect more

They have an amazing cocolon and many option to make your own ceviche. The fish ceviche is good! And galapagreño was flavorfull Is there a word in Spanish for flavorful

Probably the best ceviche we had pleasure to eat. We tried Manaba and Peruvian styles and they are really worth recommending. The place is rather small, so be prepared to wait a while for a free table, but be sure that the wait will pay off.

I very much enjoyed eating here twice by vacations in the Galápagos. I ordered the same thing twice: catch of the day with the spicy sauce and peanut sauce. I am not an expert at fish but I found both dishes very light and refreshing. $11 is not a bad price and the interior is modest and comfortable.

A must eat when in Puerto Ayora! So fresh, so tasty, service is impeccable! Ordered the shrimp in coconut sauce with mashed plantains -- wow!!! So many fresh shrimp and so delicious! We got both the Peruvian and Ecuadorian ceviches with the fish of day -- absolutely terrific. Ask for the spicy sauce and add it! It was so good I wanted to take home some in bottles! Fruit juice of the day was terrific and so refreshing!

What a wonderful place! We found this restaurant while looking for the best pizza in town – and we’re so happy we did! Very chilled atmosphere with kind people who clearly love what they do. The food is absolutely amazing. You can choose between two pizza sizes, and they taste like Italy itself. We also had the pesto pasta – also fantastic! Everything is made with love and served in a perfect setting. We were only in the Galápagos for four days but ended up eating here three times. If we lived here, this would definitely be our regular spot. Highly recommended for all lovers of Italian cuisine!

It WAS AWESOME. 10/10 I don’t really rate places 10. But pizza was really good, we ordered juices sugar free, also you could feel they were natural completely. Service pretty friendly and helpful 🤍 and we were also enjoying with one of the special members of the team 🐱🐈. That joined us meanwhile we waited for the food 🙂‍↕️😅

Ambiance is absolutely immaculate, great service, and most importantly a delicious pizza. Solid under carriage, first couple bites you might need a fork and knife but after that you can handle it. You can tell the love and care they put into this place and their food. Came back two nights in a row!

The best homemade pizza in Galápagos! Chef Andy's dough is simply incredible—light, flavorful, and the perfect base for their amazing crafted pizzas. Every ingredient is carefully selected and beautifully balanced. My top pick is the Three Cheeses, but the Sorrel & Pine Mushroom and the Crispy Shrimp or even the Serrano Ham are also out of this world—it’s honestly hard to choose just one, so it's worth trying them all! Their house-made kombucha and fresh natural juices are the perfect complement to the meal. On top of that, the service is impeccable—friendly, attentive, and always with a smile, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. Anca is a lovely spot to enjoy delicious pizza and the relaxed Galápagos evening vibe. Whether you're with friends, family, or grabbing takeout solo, this place is absolutely worth a visit!

Best pizza in the Galapagos! We had the pepperoni with jalapeno pizza: it was definitely spicy, but also had a sweetness to it, and the crust was absolute perfection. Cute restaurant, friendly staff, and relatively quick service!
Sarah L — Google review
One of the best pizzas I’ve had in my life - which is bizarre given how many times I’ve been to Italy and NYC. The three cheese pizza was my favourite - loved the addition of the toasted almonds and spicy honey - such a great addition! We also loved the pepperoni and jalapeño! The tiramisu wasn’t to the same level but it was nonetheless very good, more an Ecuadorean take on the dessert. Highly recommend!

Must try in Santa Cruz! Pizza was cooked perfectly with great flavor. Service was friendly and quick. Already want to come back!

Top notch food and drinks! The pizza is among the best you will find in Galapagos. We had the Andean salad, Serano ham pizza, house made hibiscus kombucha and a elixir drink.

The pizza restaurant Hernán has delicious pizza and ceviche that is perfect for any palate. The open air concept allows you to enjoy the locals and travelers together, and the tables are right up against the sidewalk - a nice touch. Highly recommend this place!
This is the first and best pizza place that we’ve had on Isla Santa Cruz yummy Yum yummy! The ceviche was delicious! And the pizza was amazing. With an open air concept front and the tables are right up against the sidewalk which is pretty nice. This is a place where you can enjoy your nice Mixto of locals and travelers. We highly recommend this place and will definitely be back.

Yummy Ceviche with fried banana 🍌 we also ordered grilled beef with rice and fries, and pasta with fresh tomato 🍅 - decent food, friendly staff. Quite pricy for pasta (our tomato pasta was USD15++) minus one for the beef which was hard to chew >__<

As an indian American I give this place 5 stars. Food was great and spicy hot peppers. We ate fried plantains and veggies pizza. We added the red pepper flakes and oregano to everything. Flavorful and made well. They also had a drink special 2 for 1 from 5:30 pm to 7 pm. I would eat her again. The staff was attentive and friendly.

Nice big place for a cafe or some food. We only had a cafe but the table next to us had a pizza which look good (and test good from their opinion). The cafe is very good ad the passion fruit shake is excellent ! They also have ice cream. Wifi and screen available

Café Hernan is a kinda sports bar setup with many tvs, great food including pizza and sandwiches and pretty much anything and everything. Very decently priced and one of the best value restaurants with an excellent ambience. U can see the bay from here

Great food and happy hour drinks! we had octopus rice & ceviche, and it exceeded our expectations! Ceviche was a little over cooked compared to the ones we had in Lima, but still delicious. Highly recommend the Octopus rice, very fresh & well seasoned!

Really nice pizza, we had a personal one between two for lunch and a large coke bottle. Nice fans blowing at most tables which made it quite comfortable even though it was one pm. The service was relatively prompt and staff were nice. There was no rush to finish up and it is at a handy location for the boats going to cruse ships and for taxis around the town. Good value considering the location. I would go back again, in d act we did go back again and had a similar experience with the added pleasure of a beer and a banana split.
